pine spire
#

Yes... sadly.

austere patio
#

That's why

mighty river
#

Mine seems to work after a reboot?

#

Is conbee bad?

austere patio
#

The Conbee has some quirks

pine spire
#

It's at the bottom of the "recommended" list.

mighty river
#

Anything I should know?

#

I just set mine up hahaha

pine spire
#

What VM are you using?

mighty river
#

Proxmox

#

Vm is just some guide I found for haos

pine spire
#

So like, I've reset my HA after installation of <xxx> and now when I hit my buttons or move in front of the motion sensors I get mothing.

#

Yeah, I just install Proxmox too

mighty river
#

But did you transfer the vm from elsewhere?

austere patio
pine spire
#

No, I did a backup of the HAOS and restore to the new one

mighty river
#

Ah

pine spire
#

made sure the Z-Stick and Zigbee are seen in the same spots in HA, which they are.

mighty river
#

I think I am just going to use the proxmox backup. Not the ha

pine spire
#

Proxmox backup?

mighty river
#

Yeah. Just backup the whole vm haha

pine spire
#

oh, yeah... I didn't have it on Proxmox before, it was on Oracle Virtual Box and I had the hardest time getting the Conbee to pass through consistently.

mighty river
#

Could that be part of your issue?

pine spire
#

No, if I add a new device it starts to see everything again.

mighty river
#

How many devices do you have?

mighty river
pine spire
#

Not a whole lot, 20 - 25 maybe

polar helm
#

My experience so far is that it depends super on the sensor hardware. I have a TRV sensor branded by HAMA that works like clockwork, Temp/Hygrometer sensors made by sonoff that are literally trash (bought 2 - 1 broken power button and the other keeps losing the power because of the janky battery retention mechanism and it just doesnt connect back), 4 Tuya TS011F that are meh (sensibility at the lower end of power draw detection is bad - detects only above 10W or something, also come preflashed with tuya firmware that just straight destroyed the on/off sensor functionality)

pine spire
#

that's correct, after reboot, nothing works again

mighty river
#

Let me try rebooting mine

austere patio
#

Enable debug logging to see why. 95% of the time, it's because the Conbee isn't on a USB extension cable and in a good spot.

mighty river
#

Reboot the vm or the home assistant ?

pine spire
#

HA

mighty river
#

I had to use a keyboard with a built in usb hub as my extension hhaha

polar helm
#

haha

#

now that is some jank

mighty river
#

I coukdnt find a usb extension when setting it up lol.

polar helm
#

also USB 3 Ports seem to be a general problem for most zigbee sticks i read

mighty river
#

Rebooting the vm. Fingers crossed

pine spire
#

USB 3 ports you say?

mighty river
#

Mine is 2

#

I even disabled usb 3 in proxmox for it

pine spire
#

I think my port is USB 3. Lemme try moving it to USB 1/2

mighty river
#

Was it doing this before you changed host?

pine spire
#

Before I changed host, occasionally, but I would also have to remove the stick and add it back to the VM after reboot.

mighty river
#

Mine just took a few minutes for it all to connect

#

it did though

pine spire
#

Then again, it was on a USB 1/2 port before. The server I had it running on doesn't have USB3 ports.

#

I've had my VM up for about an hour and the devices still didn't connect.

mighty river
#

Yeah

#

Automations did not start though :/

pine spire
#

ok, I just switched the USB ports to forward the 2 sticks without USB3 support.

#

yeah, I'm using NodeRed for my automations and they aren't doing anything with the Zigbee devices.

#

If I use my Z-Wave motion sensor they work

mighty river
#

I would try resetting them up in the new vm and see if that fixes it tbh

#

I accidentally triggered my coffee grinder testing that. I guess I am having a coffee now.

pine spire
#

Well ain't that some shiz... I rebooted and everything connected after I move the Conbee stick from a USB3 to a USB1/2 port and told Proxmox to NOT use the USB 3 protocol

austere patio
#

I bet your debug log had a ton of MAC_CHANNEL_ACCESS_FAILURE errors

mighty river
#

What other weird issues does conbee have?

austere patio
#

Conbee + USB 3.0 will not work very well

pine spire
#

I don't know but I'm debating whether or not to send it back to get one of the highly recommended ones

#

I need to move this VM back to the server but I have to get the data off the server first.

#

I temporarily have it set up on a tower computer my daughter no longer uses

#

but it only has 4 GB Ram

#

and 4 core processor

mighty river
#

That is fine for HA right?

#

It runs on a pi

#

lol

#

Are you going to use proxmox on the server again?

#

You have inspired me to set up backups in proxmox

#

proxmox

pine spire
#

Once I get the data off (I have roughly 10TB of info on it) I will convert that to a ProxMox server and put the VM back on as well as my Windows OS server

mighty river
#

Nice.

#

My back up is 2.57GB

#

Do you access HA from outside the home?

pine spire
#

Proxmox wants $95 euro per year per physical CPU, but it appears the VE is saying my machine has 4 CPUs, which is inaccurate.

mighty river
#

Proxmox can be free

pine spire
#

I do, I set up DuckDNS so that Alexa can talk to it

#

Yeah, I'm using it without the subscription

mighty river
#

I would not pay for it tbh

pine spire
#

I'm not going to

#

This machine has 2x4Gb Ram sticks but is only seeing one of them so this is a temporary solution.

warped zealot
#

Proxmox is only paid if you want their enterprise support; you don't get any new features for paying for it. You can disable the 'have I paid' checks with a single line somewhere

mighty river
#

I like to keep the reminder. It reminds me I am a tight arse

pine spire
#

LOL, right

warped zealot
#

It also counts hyperthreads as separate CPUs so if you have 2 cores with hyperthreading it'll report as 4 CPUs

pine spire
#

ahhh, that's shit

mighty river
#

I dunno. It says cpu sockets

warped zealot
#

Yeah that's weird then

warped zealot
pine spire
#

I have 2x 8 core processors so I doubt I'll EVER max out CPU usage.

mighty river
#

Be back later

pine spire
#

So @mighty river, RAM usage (2gb) on the VM on ProxMox is at 94%, everyone wonders why RPI is so slow. CPU spikes to 35% usage but is consistent at 25%

mighty river
#

Wonโ€™t it just use whatever its given?

pine spire
#

I don't know, I don't think so because when I had it on the other machine I dedicated 32Gb to it and it wasn't using all of it that I could see.

#

So I don't think so

mighty river
#

Mine is only using 889MB

#

I gave the vm 2GB

pine spire
#

Then i wonder why mine is so high

mighty river
#

Cpu usage 2% lol

#

Its only a dual core i3 with ht

pine spire
#

hmmm

have been having lots of issues setting up a new Pi with Zigbee2MQTT and Mosquitto running in containers via docker-compose. Am now at the point where Mosquitto will not load due to an Error opening the password file. Links to files below...

#

Any help would be amazing

thick plover
#

seem to have got it working, but z2m does not show any settings

#

and nothing in the About section, all unkowns

molten salmon
#

Thanks for the tips. I already have a Z-Wave controller. Itโ€™s pretty solid but Iโ€™ve been migrating away from Z-Wave as itโ€™s 868MHz and when I had more devices it was very slow compared to Zigbee when setting scenes. Also the devices were way more expensive due to the licensing.

#

I have very few issues with Zigbee since I moved away from deconz.

ivory hound
#

first of all it can not find the file because the file is not there

#

you only mounted the config in that folder

#

you did not mount de folder itself

#

so if you put 1000 files in that folder you will only be able to access conf file outside or inside docker

thick plover
#

Rightโ€ฆ so get rid of the file path to the file and let it end at the folder?

ivory hound
#

yes

#

also very important, presmissions

#

to test, you can go in the container and see

#

let me teach you a secret

#

do this

#

docker exec -it name-of-the-container-here bash

#

or sh instead of bash

#

and puf magic you are on a shell in the container

#

you can ls dirs and see the files on paths

#

see what is going on exactly

#

you dont have to imagine things or wonder if it work after this commend

#

but use it with care

thick plover
#

sh worked tho

#

and how to do exit that?

#

ctrl d got it

ivory hound
#

to exit type exit

thick plover
#

why nothing shows up

#

i have two of these set ups, they are identical, and one works one doesnt

ivory hound
#

@thick ploverman you have to explain, i dont see what you see atm and i have no idea what setups you are talking about

thick plover
#

Sorry. So Iโ€™ve set up Zigbee2MQTT for a friend identically to mine. However when he loads the front end he cannot see any settings in the UI, the typical tick box for Home Assistant and Discovery I think should show.

#

Then there are no buttons to go into the advanced settings

#

And if you go to the tab about the coordinator it just says unknown everywhere

#

I flashed the coordinator successfully- and it shows up as connecting to the container

#

Really at a loss to how to fix it

ivory hound
#

got it

#

permissions

thick plover
#

Within the pi?

ivory hound
#

file permissions

#

read a bit about file permissions on linux most sure z2m can't read conf files or so

#

or can read and can't write

thick plover
#

Will do - Iโ€™m a Linux amateur. Something in the back of my head remembers the command chown having something to do with this

#

Like taking ownership of it or something

ivory hound
#

on short u have permissions for user, group and all others

#

permissions are read, write and execute mainly

#

now depending on how you run that docker compose and what users yo've declared

#

you have correct permissions or not

thick plover
#

Think following this should help?

ivory hound
#

yes

#

@thick ploverahh no man that is for something else

#

sry

thick plover
#

Ah shoot

ivory hound
#

but show me the docker-compose from the guy that zigbee2mqtt doesnt show stuff in ui

ivory hound
#

my advice remove deploy resources or rise the limit of 100M memory

#

also

#

gimme a ls -la /home/zigbee2mqtt

#

on the machine that runs docker to see permissions

thick plover
ivory hound
#

is fine

#

you have a 755 permission

#

seem ok

#

i imagine that is new conf on z2m and nothing is configured in it since ui dont really work

#

i'd suggest you to do this

#

stop zigbee2mqtt on the machine with issue and empty the data folder /home/zigbee2mqtt

#

then do a new config for it

#

and start it again

#

also

#

before everything

#

do on the machine with issue

#

docker logs zigbee2mqtt

#

see what it says

#

maybe you will see the error

# red wadi Heya Guys, Just new her on discord. But looking forward sharing along experience...

Funny everything seems back to working again.

Tried multiple things.
Mostly think booting the Deconz on Windows and Hard reset with phoscon.
After this opend Deconz and checked if he can find anything. Then some "neighbours" where shown. After a will also neighbours are connected.

Rolled down a long USB2 extension cord plugged in the conbee stick and restarted Pi several times.
After this finally can pair 4 sensors in a straight go. None of the sensors undetectable.

Maybe also powering down the bluetoothctl agend and scan have helped.

However, my aqara switch is directly connected do main power and it's considered as a router (in ZHA visualization) then I should not have this issue (my temperature and humidity sensor is 2 mts from aqara switch). I've got a door sensor on my shed that i could never keep connected. I just installed a zigbee light swtich at my back door (on the inside of the house), and i got it to connect, but seems like every hour or so it's losing connection so it's not stable

Hi all,
I am running Home Assistant OS on a Raspi 2. I have a Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus with the ZHA integration that is working. I can pair devices like bulbs and also buttons. That is where my problem starts. I can pair my IKEA STYRBAR 4 button remote. It gets recognized, with all the triggers, but no matter what I do, I do not get any zha_event from this button. The same goes for the on/off button from IKEA. I tried everything I could find, I re-paired the buttons x times. Does not help. Here https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/31734 Adminiuga says "So this confirms those remotes use group_id 0x0000 when not bound to any groups. Currently there's no way to see device bindings. I guess that leaves it up to the user to do extra configuration step if you bind the remote.", but no information about what this "extra configuration" is? How do I get the buttons to send on group 1(?) so I get the zha_events? I am totally clueless on how to bind to a group (the cluster dialog?), I can't be the only one with this problem? Please help ^__^
Best regards

mellow geode
#

IIRC, the IKEA quirks should bind the remotes to group 0 (and only the LightLink cluster?) by default. That can also be done in the clusters dialog you mentioned. Youโ€˜ll want to open that for the IKEA remotes, then select group 0 from the group binding dropdown (possibly named "no name group" or "Default LightLink group". Then activate the checkbox next to the LightLink cluster. Click bind and immediately press a button on the remote afterwards (so it wakes upโ€”you might need to try this multiple times).
The remote should be bound properly then. Iโ€™m not sure if thatโ€™s all it requires for ZHA events though. Normally, you donโ€™t need to do this at all.

So before doing what I said above, can you check if the remotes have any quirks applied to them? (Can be seen on the device page where the manage clusters button is. Can also be seen at the bottom when viewing a device signature)

#

Also, if you have other devices, do you get zha_event s for them? Do device automations works?

next patio
#

Hi @mellow geode , thanks for your help! ๐Ÿ™‚
It shows "Quirk: zhaquirks.ikea.fourbtnremote.IkeaTradfriRemote" which for me sounds correct. I don't have anything else that could send zha_event. At least when I "Fire Event" manually it shows up while listening, so the listening is working.
I am not sure if I am using the correct dialog for the Cluster thingy, I do not have any checkboxes there, just a "Clusters" drop down where the only ID 0 is "Basic (Endpoint id: 1, Id: 0x0000, Type: in)" followed by "Cluster Attributes", "Cluster Commands" and "Device Binding". When I select the Zigbee Coordinator to bind to (or the bulb) and press "Bind" nothing happens.

@cerulean abyss, I saw something about that on the youtube channel "The Hook Up", maybe start there? It was for his sun shade in the back yard but could ask a question on his youtube channel.

gaunt forge
#

@cerulean abyss get the Aqara Roller Shade Driver E1. Works fine in z2m (only battery state is still missing but you have open, close, move to position x% and get back the status in HA). I deployed three of them a few weeks ago and they are very reliable and quiet.

Hi! I have multiple passive BLE temperature sensors that update every 5 minutes, and then a couple Aqara zigbee temperature sensors that seem to update whenever they feel like it (sometimes no update for half an hour). How can I increase the frequency? Could it be an issue with wireless reception, or something else I could troubleshoot?

outer plaza
#

How are you integrating new devices in Zigbee2MQTT? Is there any other way than via web-gui? Like to manually add device to config file

sour shadow
#

Nope

outer plaza
#

Am I right that each add using web-gui forces config file rebuild?

sour shadow
#

I haven't noticed it do that

#

The add-on does behave differently to the standard image though

outer plaza
#

But If new device is added, then it reflects in config, right?

sour shadow
#

Not as such, no

#

In the device database, and the stick, yes

outer plaza

sour shadow
#

outer plaza
#

Sorries, I'm trying to figure it out theroetically

#

Per documentation, this shall be stored within configuration.yaml file

sour shadow

limpid cloud
#

@bright nebula AFAIK Aqara temp sensors update when there is some temperature change.

outer plaza
#

Ahh, nevermind. I'll work it out after connecting 1st device haha

#

I meant device information

sour shadow
#

That's not the list of paired devices

#

That's something completely different you're reading

bright nebula
#

@limpid cloud ah, that would explain why, despite the gaps in the reporting, the curves are still consistent

outer plaza
sour shadow
#

Yes, for configuring devices

#

You do that

#

Nothing appears there automatically when you pair new devices

#

database.db is the file that contains the list of paired devices

outer plaza
#

Yhm, and I can add records to this file either by web-gui or MQTT topic, as per documentation.

sour shadow
#

Well, that's not quite how it works, but sure

#

You don't add records - you put Z2M into pairing mode, and put a device into pairing mode

#

Then Z2M chats with the device and updates that file

outer plaza
#

I meant, once I successfully add device using one of those methods then it reflects in database

sour shadow
#

Yes

outer plaza
#

Yes, sorry for shortcuts

#

Generally, .db file shall be .gitignore'd, am I right?

sour shadow
#

If you're not using git for backup

If I'm up to set up VC on z2m repo

#

Great

#

Thank you

#

Every day you shed more light on this matter

jolly narwhal
mellow geode
#

Again, you shouldn't have to use this for basic zha_events to work.

#

Maybe try rejoining the remote? (So search for devices in ZHA and then press the button on the inside quickly four times again)

#

Also, try and create an automation via the UI for the remote and see if the device triggers work for that. (doubt it but worth a try maybe)

#

Do I have to create the groups somewhere else first?

mellow geode
#

Ah, yeah. That might be it. But I don't think you can create the 0x0 group in the Home Assistant UI

#

You can try though. Integrations -> ZHA -> "Groups" tab (at the top)

next patio
#

I can only add the bulb to a group there (Name: Test, Group Id: 0x0002)

#

now they show up!

#

Which one do I need to bind the remote to?

#

I got: Identify, LevelControl, LightLink, OnOff, Ota, ScenesCluster

mellow geode
#

I think only the LightLink cluster needs to be bound to group 0 (at least that's what the quirk does IIRC)

next patio
#

It doesn't bind anything anyway ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

mellow geode
#

Yeah, I don't think this is your issue then. ZHA will do the binding automatically on pairing and it seems like the remote isn't connecting properly.

#

Then try to pair the device again (debug logs will contain more information about pairing/binding)

dusky hatch
#

I have an issue with a remote that doesn't pair properly if it is too far away. You could try pairing while it is quite close to the coordinator.

Is it possible for me to run Zigbee MQTT alongside ZHA? I only have one Zigbee USB stick attached. I ask because ZHA is working great and I have everything configured under it. I don't want to mess with a stable system. Unfortunately I have a single device which as far as I can tell features a custom solution in ZigbeeMQTT... (Develco ZHEMI101 to set things like pulse rate and interface mode)

#

You'd need another coordinator, and enough routers to reach the device

#

You'd also need a clear Zigbee channel

#

It might be easier to develop a quirk for ZHA

tardy tendon
#

Unfortunately that's not something I am able to do.

#

It looks like ZHA now supports the device itself but I'm not confident based on the discussion threads I will be able to configure it in the same manner provided by ZigbeeMQTT.

gaunt forge
#

As long as you have a free Zigbee channel available in your surroundings get a second Zigbee-coordinator (either a USB-stick or a LAN-coordinator, best with CC2652P) and configure that one to use Zigbee2MQTT.
You might even like it so much that youโ€™ll want to migrate all your devices to Z2M, itโ€™s a great subsystem. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Make sure to setup Mosquitto and the MQTT-integration first if not already done.
If you are new to MQTT also install the MQTT-Explorer or similar program on a Mac/PC to take a look into the MQTT-topics of your broker. (If you are not you will probably have already done so ๐Ÿ˜‰)

can anyone tell me when a zigbee light is turned off (power off), how long it takes for ZHA to recognize it as unavailable? I used ZHA one year ago, at that time my osram lights took hours to be reported as unavailable. But deconz addon reports it as unavailable with 1/2 minutes.

# jolly narwhal Add more routers

yeah, i figured that might be the case with the antennas. but its a bit annoying that the perm powered device isn't being picked up as a router. is there anything I can do to force it to be one (ie is it something which the ZHA controller dictates or is it the unit itself that decides?)
I can't really add any more routers as I already have a bunch that are as close as I can possibly get at the back of the house that is a straight line going through two patio windows. (but its actually connecting to a light upstairs in the back of the house)
Again, is there any way of 'forcing' a device to use a specific router?

anyone know why wifi smart devices are cheaper than zigbee smart devices (such as plugs)?

sour shadow

The manufacturers don't have to make them work to a given standard, and can do what they want - locking you into their cloud and ecosystem

mint flame
#

the wifi ones? @sour shadow Doesnt zigbee manufacturers do that too?

obsidian sandalBOT
#

@mint flame Discord isn't like IRC, you don't have to tag people on every response. Keep in mind that every time you tag somebody, they get a notification ping. That can very quickly become annoying and people may block you.

When using Discord's new Reply feature it defaults to pinging the person you reply to, click @ ON to @ OFF to stop this - on the right side of the compose bar.

You have to change this every time (thank the Discord devs for that).

sour shadow
#

Sure, but they have to comply with Zigbee standards... to some degree, which takes more work

mint flame
#

fair enough. What's the deal with tuya devices? Are they one of the locked zigbee ones, or can they be used without it still with workarounds?

sour shadow

They're just an example of how somebody can "comply" with a standard while mostly ignoring it

I'm assuming the external antenna is for the Zigbee protocol and not wifi?

molten linden

correct. also wifi is not initialized on the esp32 to avoid any 2.4 ghz interference.

sweet hemlock
#

good to know, see you have a PoE model too which is great

molten linden
#

yes PoE is popular.

sweet hemlock
#

is there any difference between the CC265 and ESP32 types from an end user perspective? or is it just chipset of preference?

#

i.e. they both work the same?

molten linden
#

ESP32 handles the ethernet and the tcp serial connection. the CC2652 handles the zigbee.

sweet hemlock
#

sorry I meant EFR32

molten linden
#

I do sell non PoE models with an EFR32 based zigbee module. these are not well supported under Zigbee2Mqtt so would be best for someone who is set on running ZHA.

#

the EFR32 radios do have an upgrade path to run zigbee and thread concurrently in the future. its early days with that though.

sour shadow
#

ISTR there's timing differences with the network protocol for the EFR vs TI, that means that the EFR is more at risk of timing issues - though I believe that's mostly an issue with WiFi connected coordinators

molten linden
#

technically the CC2652 can do thread too but their isn't anything that I know of out yet moving in the direction like SiLabs is doing with the EFR32 and multi protocol.

sweet hemlock
#

OK so I'm going to go for the PoE model which is CC2652, and then hope that TI provide firmware updates to support thread in the future

Thanks tube & Tinkerer

#

Sorry for chiming in as a newbie: If and when thread/matter takes hold, what is the most realistic migration scenario for typical setups? Run two meshes on the same channel (it is hard enough to get one free from WiFi), on seperate channels, some gradual migration with backwards compatibility (one concentrator serves thread and Zigbee) or the throw everything away and rebuy with thread scenario?

sour shadow
#

Don't worry about it until thread/matter becomes enough of a thing

limpid cloud

Yes, it will be years of course until it gains traction (two? three?) but I would be interested in educated guesses. Running two meshes in parallel does not scare me at all.

limpid cloud
#

Neither will I, but it would be cool if there was some limited interoperability. If not, I would perobably move devices around so that one mesh grows, and the other one shrinks in the long run.

tuya connect to zigbee fine, it's just that they use their own tuya commands, not standard zigbee. commands for device function so a lot of work has to go into trying to decode those commands and translate them to be usable. (I may be over simplifying it but that's the gist).

If using tuya zigbee products with z2m or zha they need to have had support added to work as they donโ€™t follow anything really close to the zigbee spec. Maybe there's a little bug going on since the last Home Assistant update? When I first installed my sensors they both showed 80%, then a day later 100%, so seems like something is getting a little weird every now and then

unless that could be issue?

I'll just wait it out a bit and see how long they'll actually last, don't want to get too hang up on it for now.
