That's why
The Conbee has some quirks
It's at the bottom of the "recommended" list.
What VM are you using?
So like, I've reset my HA after installation of <xxx> and now when I hit my buttons or move in front of the motion sensors I get mothing.
Yeah, I just install Proxmox too
But did you transfer the vm from elsewhere?
Does any part of your Zigbee network work? Enable https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/zha/#debug-logging
No, I did a backup of the HAOS and restore to the new one
Ah
made sure the Z-Stick and Zigbee are seen in the same spots in HA, which they are.
I think I am just going to use the proxmox backup. Not the ha
Proxmox backup?
Yeah. Just backup the whole vm haha
oh, yeah... I didn't have it on Proxmox before, it was on Oracle Virtual Box and I had the hardest time getting the Conbee to pass through consistently.
Could that be part of your issue?
No, if I add a new device it starts to see everything again.
How many devices do you have?
But then if you restart it nothing works again?
Not a whole lot, 20 - 25 maybe
My experience so far is that it depends super on the sensor hardware. I have a TRV sensor branded by HAMA that works like clockwork, Temp/Hygrometer sensors made by sonoff that are literally trash (bought 2 - 1 broken power button and the other keeps losing the power because of the janky battery retention mechanism and it just doesnt connect back), 4 Tuya TS011F that are meh (sensibility at the lower end of power draw detection is bad - detects only above 10W or something, also come preflashed with tuya firmware that just straight destroyed the on/off sensor functionality)
that's correct, after reboot, nothing works again
Let me try rebooting mine
Enable debug logging to see why. 95% of the time, it's because the Conbee isn't on a USB extension cable and in a good spot.
Reboot the vm or the home assistant ?
HA
I had to use a keyboard with a built in usb hub as my extension hhaha
I coukdnt find a usb extension when setting it up lol.
also USB 3 Ports seem to be a general problem for most zigbee sticks i read
Rebooting the vm. Fingers crossed
USB 3 ports you say?
I think my port is USB 3. Lemme try moving it to USB 1/2
Was it doing this before you changed host?
Before I changed host, occasionally, but I would also have to remove the stick and add it back to the VM after reboot.
Then again, it was on a USB 1/2 port before. The server I had it running on doesn't have USB3 ports.
I've had my VM up for about an hour and the devices still didn't connect.
ok, I just switched the USB ports to forward the 2 sticks without USB3 support.
yeah, I'm using NodeRed for my automations and they aren't doing anything with the Zigbee devices.
If I use my Z-Wave motion sensor they work
I would try resetting them up in the new vm and see if that fixes it tbh
I accidentally triggered my coffee grinder testing that. I guess I am having a coffee now.
Well ain't that some shiz... I rebooted and everything connected after I move the Conbee stick from a USB3 to a USB1/2 port and told Proxmox to NOT use the USB 3 protocol
I bet your debug log had a ton of MAC_CHANNEL_ACCESS_FAILURE errors
What other weird issues does conbee have?
Conbee + USB 3.0 will not work very well
I don't know but I'm debating whether or not to send it back to get one of the highly recommended ones
I need to move this VM back to the server but I have to get the data off the server first.
I temporarily have it set up on a tower computer my daughter no longer uses
but it only has 4 GB Ram
and 4 core processor
That is fine for HA right?
It runs on a pi
lol
Are you going to use proxmox on the server again?
You have inspired me to set up backups in proxmox
proxmox
Once I get the data off (I have roughly 10TB of info on it) I will convert that to a ProxMox server and put the VM back on as well as my Windows OS server
Proxmox wants $95 euro per year per physical CPU, but it appears the VE is saying my machine has 4 CPUs, which is inaccurate.
Proxmox can be free
I do, I set up DuckDNS so that Alexa can talk to it
Yeah, I'm using it without the subscription
I would not pay for it tbh
I'm not going to
This machine has 2x4Gb Ram sticks but is only seeing one of them so this is a temporary solution.
Proxmox is only paid if you want their enterprise support; you don't get any new features for paying for it. You can disable the 'have I paid' checks with a single line somewhere
I like to keep the reminder. It reminds me I am a tight arse
LOL, right
It also counts hyperthreads as separate CPUs so if you have 2 cores with hyperthreading it'll report as 4 CPUs
ahhh, that's shit
I dunno. It says cpu sockets
Yeah that's weird then
Most of the time it doesn't matter unless you have a load of CPU-maxing processes going on
I have 2x 8 core processors so I doubt I'll EVER max out CPU usage.
Be back later
So @mighty river, RAM usage (2gb) on the VM on ProxMox is at 94%, everyone wonders why RPI is so slow. CPU spikes to 35% usage but is consistent at 25%
Wonโt it just use whatever its given?
I don't know, I don't think so because when I had it on the other machine I dedicated 32Gb to it and it wasn't using all of it that I could see.
So I don't think so
Then i wonder why mine is so high
Cpu Released 2017
๐คทโโ๏ธ no idea then
How many integration s do you have
19
Most of them aren't doing anything, like OpenWeatherMap, it sees my phone as an integration
Hmm
Hue Bridge
Wonder what is using all your cpu
no idea... but I'll be back, I gotta get the wife from the airport.
I'll be back tomorrow
most likely
Ok. Just @ me
it's already going to be midnight before I get back
Soudns good
when I get it moved to the other machine, i'll let you know what the usage is there.
on zigpy_znp using the form_network tool how do I specify the channel?
You can't. Specify it in the HA config file after erasing NVRAM or manually fill out the network settings JSON and restore it with the backup/restore tool.
Is there any way to not have to unpair/repair devices by changing the json file channel?
You can change the coordinator's channel but devices on the network won't know about the change
I'm looking to expand my room coverage for occupancy and temperature. Without resorting to alibaba / diy sensors, is the most economical zigbee solution sucking it up and buying Hue combo sensors @ ~$40 each?
Do a backup and edit the channel in there. If you shut off your routers and turn them back on after 10s, some may scan for the network on the new channel. Probably won't work though. Zigbee doesn't handle channel changes very gracefully and there's no code at the moment to notify each device individually.
just got some sengled outlets to monitor power use on my washer & (gas) dryer. however it seems like it can't handle the startup load from the dryer and shuts off immediately ๐คฆ
have been having lots of issues setting up a new Pi with Zigbee2MQTT and Mosquitto running in containers via docker-compose. Am now at the point where Mosquitto will not load due to an Error opening the password file. Links to files below...
Mosquitto Error - https://imgur.com/2Q43Exx
docker-compose.yaml - https://imgur.com/G8sZUHB
mosquitto.conf (changed to mosquitto.passwd which is what the actual file is called) - https://imgur.com/G94ZQFN
Any help would be amazing
seem to have got it working, but z2m does not show any settings
and nothing in the About section, all unkowns
Thanks for the tips. I already have a Z-Wave controller. Itโs pretty solid but Iโve been migrating away from Z-Wave as itโs 868MHz and when I had more devices it was very slow compared to Zigbee when setting scenes. Also the devices were way more expensive due to the licensing.
I have very few issues with Zigbee since I moved away from deconz.
i've checked your docker compose and what is happening with your mosquitto is normal
first of all it can not find the file because the file is not there
you only mounted the config in that folder
you did not mount de folder itself
so if you put 1000 files in that folder you will only be able to access conf file outside or inside docker
Rightโฆ so get rid of the file path to the file and let it end at the folder?
yes
also very important, presmissions
to test, you can go in the container and see
let me teach you a secret
do this
docker exec -it name-of-the-container-here bash
or sh instead of bash
and puf magic you are on a shell in the container
you can ls dirs and see the files on paths
see what is going on exactly
you dont have to imagine things or wonder if it work after this commend
but use it with care
OCI runtime exec failed: exec failed: container_linux.go:380: starting container process caused: exec: "bash": executable file not found in $PATH: unknown
sh worked tho
and how to do exit that?
ctrl d got it
@ivory hound any idea on this one? #zigbee-archived message
to exit type exit
which ? i see many issues
why nothing shows up
i have two of these set ups, they are identical, and one works one doesnt
@thick ploverman you have to explain, i dont see what you see atm and i have no idea what setups you are talking about
Sorry. So Iโve set up Zigbee2MQTT for a friend identically to mine. However when he loads the front end he cannot see any settings in the UI, the typical tick box for Home Assistant and Discovery I think should show.
Then there are no buttons to go into the advanced settings
And if you go to the tab about the coordinator it just says unknown everywhere
I flashed the coordinator successfully- and it shows up as connecting to the container
Really at a loss to how to fix it
Within the pi?
file permissions
read a bit about file permissions on linux most sure z2m can't read conf files or so
or can read and can't write
Will do - Iโm a Linux amateur. Something in the back of my head remembers the command chown having something to do with this
Like taking ownership of it or something
on short u have permissions for user, group and all others
permissions are read, write and execute mainly
now depending on how you run that docker compose and what users yo've declared
you have correct permissions or not
Ah shoot
but show me the docker-compose from the guy that zigbee2mqtt doesnt show stuff in ui
my advice remove deploy resources or rise the limit of 100M memory
also
gimme a ls -la /home/zigbee2mqtt
on the machine that runs docker to see permissions
Sent as DM sorry, out and about and imgur wonโt let me upload on mobile
is fine
you have a 755 permission
seem ok
i imagine that is new conf on z2m and nothing is configured in it since ui dont really work
i'd suggest you to do this
stop zigbee2mqtt on the machine with issue and empty the data folder /home/zigbee2mqtt
then do a new config for it
and start it again
also
before everything
do on the machine with issue
docker logs zigbee2mqtt
see what it says
maybe you will see the error
HI All, Using Zigbee2Mqtt, the external converters are lost on reboot - I add them using the GUI and they work
After reboot, its back to UNSUPPORTED and the config in the menu has removed it
is there any secret to keep the changes?
Hi all,
I'm using HA and ZHA with 1 Aqara switch + 1 aqara motion sensor + 1 Sonoff temparature & humidity sensor. I know ZigBee works in mesh, but in ZHA visualization I'm seeing that devices only work if they'r directly connected to the coordinator. Anyone knows why? Thanks.
has anyone got one of these zigbee CO2 sensors?
are they reliable?
Looks to be the same as the "Smart Air Box" zigbee sensor on aliexpress
Flicked you the log after the rebuilt @ivory hound - no change - still same problems
then is not zigbee2mqtt
is the browser your friend or you use
you are not logged in or something related
do you have some password manager that automatically fill basic auth? maybe that is filling the wrong pass
anyway something related to browser and pass
logs look ok
You are right. He uses chrome. He just tried with IE and it all works fine
Now Iโm really confused!
I had even refreshed cache for him and it did nothing
Incognito window?
nah, didn't work on chrome browser on his phone either
one thing with my set up tho, just turned the allow_anonymous to false on my mosquitto
password file seems to be set up correctly, but the credentials aren't working
Hi all, hope this is the right channel. I have a conbee2 and try to use an ikea strybar(4 button remote). I had some issue that it reported two events when i pressed a button. i removed the device and added it again. Then it gave me three events per click. removed it again and added it again and now i get 4 events. Can it be that removing the device is not completely succesfull and something stays behind that keeps generating the event?
just realised you have to do this in the container shell
Heya Guys, Just new her on discord. But looking forward sharing along experience/ answer questions and seeing beatifull stuff from all of you.
At the moment only banging my head to the wall and can't get further....
#zigbee-archived Conbee II stick running on Raspb. Pi.
With the automatically detected Conbee II integration detected it worked before flawlessly.
Only at the moment cannot pair anything anymore to it. Also not paired prefiously Not sure what happenned.
Tried reinstalling and re-pairing stuff but no succes.
Any clues?
Running the ZHA integration
@red wadi have you tried to connect the conbee to a windows machine? i one had a firmware version that had the conbee2 stuck in a bootloop. in windows you will hear the device connect and reconnect all the time.
@frosty skiff Will check, will get back to you soon ๐
Now tryng to unmount zha and test with deconz/phoscon to also check latest firmware and so on
I do know that I was playing around to get a bluetooth speaker connected. Paired succesfully but not able to broadcast anything to it. Maybe this causes interference?
The Conbee II is connected with USB2 and a USB cable. So not really sure about interference (Maybe from raspberry bluetooth?)
Seems not to be in a bootloop. Hmm further investigation needed I suppose
oke, that kinda depleted my suggestions. (also new to this stuff)
Doesn't matter. Where all trying our best right. Maybe it was just the same bootloop as you had. Without your advice I wouldn't checked it
Turning off bluetoothctl and agent and so on. Doesn't help either...
Funny everything seems back to working again.
Tried multiple things.
Mostly think booting the Deconz on Windows and Hard reset with phoscon.
After this opend Deconz and checked if he can find anything. Then some "neighbours" where shown. After a will also neighbours are connected.
Rolled down a long USB2 extension cord plugged in the conbee stick and restarted Pi several times.
After this finally can pair 4 sensors in a straight go. None of the sensors undetectable.
Maybe also powering down the bluetoothctl agend and scan have helped.
#solved

Not sure if anyone responded to you yet or not, but..
In general, battery-powered devices are EndPoints only (as in, they don't act as routers in the mesh network) to save on battery consumption.
Mains-powered devices, however, almost always act as routers as well (lights, curtain motors, etc)
Is the hue integration still using the rest api or has it switched to ws now?
not a q for this channel
Ahh sorry about that, can you point me in the right direction?
#integrations-archived best guess
Hi, thanks for your answer. It makes perfect sense. However, my aqara switch is directly connected do main power and it's considered as a router (in ZHA visualization) then I should not have this issue (my temperature and humidity sensor is 2 mts from aqara switch). BTW, if I configure one device that's close to the coordinator and move it to other place, it should work if it's close to one router device in the mesh correct?
deleting zigbee2mqtt ... going to ZHA
I remember having issues with Aqara devices being sticky (as in, absolutely not willing to route in any other way than the one in which they were adopted). So for them, it's better to adopt in-place (or as close to in-place as you can conveniently get)
What is best way delete all links, settings and entities (CC2652RB stick and zigbee2mqtt). Think to do everything from start when i get not couple routers to my system.
Is there anyone here in the group using an "xfinity xhk1-ue" with zigbee2mqtt? I could use some help with pairing, because no matter what I try the keypad doesn't show up in my overview ๐
Delete the z2m add-on, restart HA and then start fresh (reinstall the add-on and re-pair your Zigbee devices).
@gaunt forge thanks for fast answer. Need to start pairing my zigbee network if routers arrive post office ๐
Hello using Conbee II ZHA and have following device : https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/TS0003_switch_module.html?fbclid=IwAR0xhnUIY1bl9nptLgPOD7pvO6fEK_VQFFKUl95EOmyePfgX-nK9x9pqWgs
How can I change power_on_behavior ?
How I can confirm that device exposes this ? Is it expected to be a claster ?
Many thanks for your input
Where did you buy that, I could use that.
only place I can find it is alibaba - estimated receipt date march 20
lol
no thanks I'll jam 3 zbminis in there one way or another
I'm looking to bind ikea fyrtur blinds to the ikea remote (E1766). Any references or input on how to do it?
@mighty river, ProxMox installed, new usage, CPU (4 cores) 12% and memory is sitting at 2.38GB of 32GB
Conbee II stick seems to be working much better for the Zigbee stuff, it connects every time now.
Yeah. I reckon config issue maybe with different host

Not looking good with "repair" my zigbee network. Started to update my Slae.sh stick new firmware and things goind bad from there ๐
I do that firmware update with Texas instrument program. But stick to program mode. Then i but CC2652RB_coordinator_20211217.hex file on source and but all taps ok. Then i get succesfull update info.
After that i take disconnect stick and put that back to my computer. After that i try to get connect my stick with webseria.slae.sh
no communication Sending sync and not going anywhere there. Try to firmware update again, but now when i pick my ic type "CC2652RB" and click connect whole program shutdown immediately
Firmware update works again, not problem with that but that webserial.slae.sh not working
here is log to that firmware update
Why don't you just try using the stick with your Zigbee integration?
The webserial implementation may not be fully functional
try but that back to my raspi4 HA system, but that not worked anymore
thats why i get stick back to my windows PC and try that webserial
What integration are you using?
zigbee2mqtt
Its debug log will probably contain more useful info
yeah i try to put that back and check what log tells
Hi everybody, is there a way to bridge zigbee over Ethernet? My problem is a garage out of reach of the main zigbee network, that has an Ethernet connection. Main zigbee net is ZHA, that only allows one coordinator. Want to avoid having a second, different zigbee integration if possible (eg zigbee2mqtt)
Yesz Poe coordinator
Now i try update firmware with my laptop, but still same error log like this link: https://imgur.com/a/DqNDm8c
allready try increase by 1 that "panid" number
not helped
update firmware again my other pc, not helped still same problem
webserial.slae.sh works with laptop little better but not give any firmware information etc, but not give error just give this output
Thanks @jolly narwhal
coordinator-tester gives this kind information:
but HA zigbee2mqtt gives that same error again and again: https://imgur.com/a/DqNDm8c
Does anyone know how to fix SONOFF SNZB-03 battery status, using zigbee2mqtt?? Already tried adding the settings in the reporting section. But the battery percentage keeps flashing red.
Hey there! I've got a problem with my new Home Assistant Setup, i've bought a Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 Plus Stick and flashed it with the Firmware from Koenkk, but the Zigbee2mqtt log only shows this:

Anyone got any idea what i could do? To me it looks like the flashing of the stick had gone wrong, but i'm not sure.
try flashing it again - you might have already checked, but just double check whether correct co-ordinator firmware flashed
Okay, i'll double check it, when i'm at home. Still at work currently.
the things ppl do at work :))
๐
Or how do i check it via Linux? I flashed it on Windows. I can ssh to the Home Assistant ๐
you cannot - just flash it again
if you can access ssh on HA - just check if there are other devices as well ls -l ttyUSB* - just in case it is mapped to other
[core-ssh ~]$ cd /dev
[core-ssh dev]$ ls -l ttyUSB*
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 188, 0 Jan 31 16:55 ttyUSB0
should i give it some more rw rights? But "test -w /dev/ttyACM0 && echo success || echo failure" says success
so the rights are fine. and the stick should map to ACM0. Anyway, try reflashing first, then give this port if that fails
Okay, i'll try ๐
Anyone have tips for my situation ๐ Still same error and not ideas anymore how i get cc2652rb stick working with my zigbee2mqtt addon
is there another zigbee network running where the channel or pan id is the same? anyway try changing the channel and the pan id and check if it runs and able to comission
any idea how to configure that โ๏ธ
try change that channel and panid many times 11 channel, 15channel. panid up and down couple digits
Only my network here i dont think my neighbour old couple have anything home automation and think that apparment is too far anyway
everything started that firmware update today. Now of course i uninstall zigbee2mqtt many times etc
firmware seems ok, tested with coordinator-test python code
of course i allready do that firmware update many times and restart ha many times
I just saw this in the latest Ikea smart home release notes
Release Version: 1.19.1
11th Jan 2022
New features and changes in Accessories:
โ TRร
DFRI control outlet (V-2.3.089)
โ Upgrade to stack v6.3.1
โ Solves an issue where product become unreachable after a gateway restart.
โ Increased security regarding upgrade of firmware.
Is this "increased security" thing going to interfere with firmware updating from HA or is it just to do with stuff like the new firmware must be signed?
Guessing the latter
Revert your changes to the network settings and unscrew the antenna of the coordinator when starting it up
Once Z2M starts put the antenna back
Or cover the coordinator antenna with your hand
I used an old Pringles can as a start-up cover whenever I had that issue ๐
Nah ||Honey roast ham||
Though, to be contentious, ||the hot-dog flavour really works||
Spoiler alert: ||they are all terrible||
How dare u
I had the luxury of trying some of them out during the summer since the packaging is well-suited for some scenarios. They probably work better as faraday cages than they do for their intended purpose of providing an appetizing snack
so im having a similar issue to @vagrant dragon , i flashed my Sonoff Zigbee device and now its dead
it flashed without issue but its not being recognized in HA, also when i try to reflash on my machine it times out
tried with the reset button as well as with the pythion script, neither works
is there any way to jtag or connect via SPI and flash?
So big thanks to you, newer think anything like that can be reason that problem ๐
Now need to start zigbee network pairing from beginning but that is fun job compare that problems with zigbee2mqqt ๐
I have first time my life 2pcs routers (wall sockets) Do i need put any settings them or pair them differently? Or are they working normally when i pair them and not need any settings?
If you undo the changes you made to your config file (e.g. PAN ID and channel), the "old network" should just start working again
i think i do everything from start. Get couple new devices include that routers
and but them now same time there
have couple problems that old network
two xiaomis (one button and one temp sensor) goes offline and newer get them working again (try new pairing etc). Maybe this new network solve that problem too ๐
Hi, trying to send a MQTT to a Zigbee bulb, get no error, but it has no effect. Could someone please give me a hint? mosquitto_pub -u user -P pass -r -t "zigbee2mqtt/friendly_name/set" -m "hue_power_on_behaivior: 'recover'"
Did you try using Z2M's native UI to do that?
Also, it's not literally friendly_name
Lol, no. A few weeks back I tried last it wsn't in there. Will of course try it then ๐
Ok, but the one from the "name" column in Entities listing, right?
I still don't find it in Z2M UI... I find the MQTT config, but that is not it, or?
I'm in Settings/MQTT...
Look at the device itself
Oh, will do
Well, I'll have to read the docs for this one. But know I know where to do it at least. Thanks
got this to work somewhat, but it only survives two power cycles... sudo mosquitto_pub -u user -P pass -r -t zigbee2mqtt/bed_rgb/set -m "{\"hue_power_on_behavior\": \"recover\"}"
Off works fine, but have no luck with options recover or on... Any trick to make recover work reliably? It works a few times, then it defaults to full brightness again
Sounds like you might have flashed the wrong firmware, and yes, JTAG is possible and is the only way to recover from that situation
may also be able to just pull the right pin for the bootloader for whatever fw is flashed low to get it into bootloader mode to reflash. But JTAG is pretty easy if you have one.
Thanks for the info, any links on how i can JTAG? do i need special hardware?
wow ok i do need special stuff then
I use the Segger J-Link_EDU_Mini
think you may be able to use https://openocd.org/
I don't know for sure.
Any suggestions on boosting signal?
I've got a door sensor on my shed that i could never keep connected. I just installed a zigbee light swtich at my back door (on the inside of the house), and i got it to connect, but seems like every hour or so it's losing connection so it's not stable
I have an outlet outside on the other side of the door where that light switch is. i guess i could plug some (small) zigbee device into it just to help with repeating, but it's only going to be a foot away from the light switch, albeit on the exterior of the house
are certain devices better at creating a strong repeater than others?
do you have power at the shed?
putting a router device there with potentially better reception may help. extreme would be router on house side with directional antenna and router at shed with one with tx boosted on both sides.
Hey there! I've got a TS0601 Thermostat, which i can set normally via zigbee2mqtt, but the local_temperature is always stuck to 20ยฐC. Could the thermostat be faulty? I'm still new to this, so maybe i'm doing something wrong.
anybody know the trick to get zigbee2mqtt to actually find devices?

I have a couple of aqara/xioami devices that are found without problem on deconz on win10 but just never appear on z2mqtt
- USB extension cable
- Not a USB 3.0 port
- Routers
hrm, ok
didn't think that would be an issue, certainly worked fine with usb3 on win10
I'll try a different port then - can't hurt to do more cargo-culting
Sticking it on a USB 2.0 extension cable should provide the same end result, and the cable is A Good Thing
wonder if I can find one around
If not, buy one - it'll bring an almost magical boost in signal quality (by reducing interference)
I'm sure I have one ... somwhere
I dunno, I had my hue lights and generic plugs running fine with zha
It should all work fine, if you pair the routers first, and you have enough of them
it's all a bit opaque
Channel choice plays a big part, if you left Z2M at the defaults then the odds are channel 11 is getting stomped on by WiFi
Find one that's quiet?
Again, it's all in the pins
Easy to miss the things I keep pointing out
I didn't know there were pinned things up there! I'm an irc person by nature, and ms teams has rotted my brain
ah, I see
because am crazed with heat in brisbane
sorry
right, so zigbee 11 lives within 802.11g channel 1
neat, and now zigbee2mqtt is 502'ing after changing the channel number in config
So check the log for it
It'll tell you there why it's failing to start, though I can make an educated guess as to why
honestly nothing of interest
ok dns is broken for no raisin
so im thinking of starting to build my zigbee network. I have a laptop for HA so the obvious choice is a USB dongle. conbee II or sonoff?
the sonoff seems to come with some antenna
thanks! sonoff is, says it's based on CC2652P
Hi all,
I am running Home Assistant OS on a Raspi 2. I have a Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus with the ZHA integration that is working. I can pair devices like bulbs and also buttons. That is where my problem starts. I can pair my IKEA STYRBAR 4 button remote. It gets recognized, with all the triggers, but no matter what I do, I do not get any zha_event from this button. The same goes for the on/off button from IKEA. I tried everything I could find, I re-paired the buttons x times. Does not help. Here https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/31734 Adminiuga says "So this confirms those remotes use group_id 0x0000 when not bound to any groups. Currently there's no way to see device bindings. I guess that leaves it up to the user to do extra configuration step if you bind the remote.", but no information about what this "extra configuration" is? How do I get the buttons to send on group 1(?) so I get the zha_events? I am totally clueless on how to bind to a group (the cluster dialog?), I can't be the only one with this problem? Please help ^__^
Best regards
IIRC, the IKEA quirks should bind the remotes to group 0 (and only the LightLink cluster?) by default. That can also be done in the clusters dialog you mentioned. Youโll want to open that for the IKEA remotes, then select group 0 from the group binding dropdown (possibly named "no name group" or "Default LightLink group". Then activate the checkbox next to the LightLink cluster. Click bind and immediately press a button on the remote afterwards (so it wakes upโyou might need to try this multiple times).
The remote should be bound properly then. Iโm not sure if thatโs all it requires for ZHA events though. Normally, you donโt need to do this at all.
So before doing what I said above, can you check if the remotes have any quirks applied to them? (Can be seen on the device page where the manage clusters button is. Can also be seen at the bottom when viewing a device signature)
Also, if you have other devices, do you get zha_event s for them? Do device automations works?
Hi @mellow geode , thanks for your help! ๐
It shows "Quirk: zhaquirks.ikea.fourbtnremote.IkeaTradfriRemote" which for me sounds correct. I don't have anything else that could send zha_event. At least when I "Fire Event" manually it shows up while listening, so the listening is working.
I am not sure if I am using the correct dialog for the Cluster thingy, I do not have any checkboxes there, just a "Clusters" drop down where the only ID 0 is "Basic (Endpoint id: 1, Id: 0x0000, Type: in)" followed by "Cluster Attributes", "Cluster Commands" and "Device Binding". When I select the Zigbee Coordinator to bind to (or the bulb) and press "Bind" nothing happens.
Anyone got a recommendation for a zigbee blind controller (roller blind so the chain based stuff)? Don't want to splash out for ikea replacing the blind so looking for an inplace upgrade
@cerulean abyss, I saw something about that on the youtube channel "The Hook Up", maybe start there? It was for his sun shade in the back yard but could ask a question on his youtube channel.
@cerulean abyss get the Aqara Roller Shade Driver E1. Works fine in z2m (only battery state is still missing but you have open, close, move to position x% and get back the status in HA). I deployed three of them a few weeks ago and they are very reliable and quiet.
Hi! I have multiple passive BLE temperature sensors that update every 5 minutes, and then a couple Aqara zigbee temperature sensors that seem to update whenever they feel like it (sometimes no update for half an hour). How can I increase the frequency? Could it be an issue with wireless reception, or something else I could troubleshoot?
How are you integrating new devices in Zigbee2MQTT? Is there any other way than via web-gui? Like to manually add device to config file
Nope
Am I right that each add using web-gui forces config file rebuild?
I haven't noticed it do that
The add-on does behave differently to the standard image though
But If new device is added, then it reflects in config, right?
I need to test this out. Would you mind telling where can I look for device database if I'm using z2m image?
Sorries, I'm trying to figure it out theroetically
Per documentation, this shall be stored within configuration.yaml file
"this"?
@bright nebula AFAIK Aqara temp sensors update when there is some temperature change.
Ahh, nevermind. I'll work it out after connecting 1st device haha
I meant device information
That's not the list of paired devices
That's something completely different you're reading
@limpid cloud ah, that would explain why, despite the gaps in the reporting, the curves are still consistent
I'm reading this text block to be exact - https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/guide/configuration/devices-groups.html#common-device-options
Yes, for configuring devices
You do that
Nothing appears there automatically when you pair new devices
database.db is the file that contains the list of paired devices
Yhm, and I can add records to this file either by web-gui or MQTT topic, as per documentation.
Well, that's not quite how it works, but sure
You don't add records - you put Z2M into pairing mode, and put a device into pairing mode
Then Z2M chats with the device and updates that file
I meant, once I successfully add device using one of those methods then it reflects in database
Yes
If you're not using git for backup
If I'm up to set up VC on z2m repo
Great
Thank you
Every day you shed more light on this matter
Why would you need an update if no changes happens?
Do you mean this dialog? https://i.imgur.com/8mTYJga.png
Again, you shouldn't have to use this for basic zha_events to work.
Maybe try rejoining the remote? (So search for devices in ZHA and then press the button on the inside quickly four times again)
Also, try and create an automation via the UI for the remote and see if the device triggers work for that. (doubt it but worth a try maybe)
You can enable set logging of homeassistant.core to Debug to see generated events in the log, which I find quite useful to check if events are getting through
Yep! (More debug logging for ZHA https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/zha/#debug-logging to see if the remote even sends a message.)
Oh awesome. Might give that a look then thanks!!
Hmm Iโll go take a look too thanks!
Sadly nothing in the debug logs ๐ฆ Automations don't work with the buttons. What I did until now when pairing was, to press the 4 buttons, then it gets recognized and configured. Do I have to press them again 4 times after ZHA sees them?
If ZHA recognizes it in the pairing dialog and it turns "green", no. They should only be pressed to reset the remote and initiate the pairing process. ZHA should then find and configure that.
I don't see a "Group Binding", it ends after "Device Binding" ๐ฆ
After that, it should just work
You should be able to scroll down in the dialog
No scrolling ๐ฆ
On which Home Assistant version are you?
Home Assistant OS 7.2 (2021.12.10)
Mhm, that's good. But you should be able to scroll down in the dialog.
Try on another browser maybe? (Although you shouldn't need to do this for remotes to work)
I mean the page is larger than the cluster popup and I dont see anything there.
Do I have to create the groups somewhere else first?
Ah, yeah. That might be it. But I don't think you can create the 0x0 group in the Home Assistant UI
You can try though. Integrations -> ZHA -> "Groups" tab (at the top)
I can only add the bulb to a group there (Name: Test, Group Id: 0x0002)
now they show up!
Which one do I need to bind the remote to?
I got: Identify, LevelControl, LightLink, OnOff, Ota, ScenesCluster
I think only the LightLink cluster needs to be bound to group 0 (at least that's what the quirk does IIRC)
It doesn't bind anything anyway ๐ฆ
Yeah, I don't think this is your issue then. ZHA will do the binding automatically on pairing and it seems like the remote isn't connecting properly.
Try enabling the debug logs (https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/zha/#debug-logging) and restart Home Assistant if you haven't done so already.
Then try to pair the device again (debug logs will contain more information about pairing/binding)
I have an issue with a remote that doesn't pair properly if it is too far away. You could try pairing while it is quite close to the coordinator.
Sometimes it seems to help to remove the device from HA first
Is this the start of the coordinator searching? [zigpy_znp.zigbee.application] Permitting joins for 60 seconds
Hello guys, I have CC2531 USB dongle that I want to use instead of Sonoff ZBBridge but how can I extend signal? Should I buy some repeater or router? Do you have some suggestions please?
Yeah. The coordinator allows joins and the remote searches for all Zigbee networks it can join (when it's reset with the button)
[zigpy.application] Device 0x0eee (b4:e3:f9:ff:fe:cb:6b:5a) left the network
That does not sound good? ^^
Thats the remote
It's possible that it left the network because it was already paired previously. Does it join again afterwards?
ah yes, it does
You can also upload the joining part of the debug log (make sure there's no confidential data in it) and send the link (https://www.codepile.net/ or hastebin or similar)
what happened to the pretty Bee icon for the Z2M add-on? I swear it was there a few weeks ago ๐ฆ
It's been a while since I posted my question about the Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Plus, and it not working correctly with the Aqara Door and Window E1 sensors. I have solved the issue by flashing a newer version of the Z-stack firmware, 3.x.0_20211217. Everything is now working as expected.
Well turns out with this itโs incredibly hard to get in good ol australia. Was in stock on AliExpress last night, now no longer
@cerulean abyss I got mine on Amazon in Europe
Also not available to ship to australia
Not on Amazon au either
I've got an order in from my local store for an E1 since before Xmas, just got an email update on it.. "We're still waiting for the product. Please be patient" ๐
So, if it's in stock somewhere, by all means get it. If not, then.. Heh, good luck.
I am back with my problem get my zigbee network working. After old messages i get my cc2652rb slae stick working that way Zigbee2Mqtt add on starts normally. But cannot pairing anything with that. Is normal there is nothing in the zigbee2mqtt log. I allready permit join and try pair different devices but dont see anything on log.
Here is log inside addon:
And here is log zigbee2mqtt "hard" log
problem solved and pairing start working some reason :S
One question related thats routers (Ikea sockets). Do i need do something that buttons and sensors linked nearest router or is that going automatically. Even if sensor moving some other place on home is that automatically linked nearest router?
@vagrant dragon it is better to pair in place, I have no hard&fast knowledge about this, but roaming to stronger stations is supposedly very device dependent, that is for some devices, it won't happen.
Ok thanks for info, just testing and all devices linked my cordinator not routers
i try connect couple more sensors and see if they connect routers
Hello everyone.
I never use zigbee and try this journey but is not easy.
HA on raspberry pi and I buy USB dongle "CC2531 Zigbee2MQTT Zigbee USB Dongle Pre Flashed for Home Assistant Open HAB" and i try pair "BHT-002-GCLZB:Water/Gas" but nothing happens.. Ha not see any device for pair.
Anyone can show me direction?
What system are you using? ZHA or Z2Mqtt?
Also cc2531 is horrible
i try ZHA
No problem, I can buy another but please suggest anything for noobie
Check the pins and the channel topic
You activated pairing on it?
Yes. Nothing. But I order some more zigbee device for test. Maybe thermostat is problematic.
I just try zigbee for fun, maybe this will be good hobby or nightmare ๐
๐
going to replace a couple bulbs (sengleds, not routers) with ones that are routers (sylvania)... when i replace them, is the best option for rebuilding the network to just unpair/repair each device i want connected to them instead of my main hub?
z2m on zzh if it matters
horrible realibility
I've read a lot about pairing issues
no idea if that is still the case
any idea on innr?
RGB or CT ?
yes lol

mainly used for temperature with adaptive lighting, but often use rgb color as well
gonna give these innr ones a shot
this was my main question though
I find RGB in general shitty for adaptive lighting
but I've only used Tradfri \ Xiaomi \ Hue
the sengleds i use now work fine for us, they are rgbw if im not mistaken
CT is more natural
I've got a few Osram bulbs, and can' recommend them.
thanks for the warning!
At least mine did
trying to replace the last two tuya bulbs in my setup
then i'll only have one tuya device left but it's just a plug
I have quite a few tuya plugs, but they are all flashed with tasmota
I find everything by Ikea a lot better than the Osram bulbs
few wyze bulbs i'll probably replace eventually and then all my lights will be local ๐
i guess i could probably flash this one
Mine were ones of the very first though, maybe they got better
Computer says no
hmm i don't see it on blakadder
if you check the DHCP lease
you can see if the mac address is espressif
if it is tuya you are out of luck
I have a number of the innr rgbw bulbs. like them but they are pricey.
I'm trying to change the network_key as described here: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/advanced/zigbee/03_secure_network.html, but after restart it resets to the original one. It is a 16 values string... Anyone know how to do this properly? I mimic the example, except for the values of course
Tradfri RGB-CCT bulbs are terrible with Z2Mqtt, they donโt support changing the colour temperature with the CCT part, have to find it under the colour wheel
Are you using the HA add on? And if so did you change it in the add on config or elsewhere?
Open the z2m add on menu (eg where you can start/ restart/ stop) and thereโs a configuration thing at the top of the screen
This page
Woot!
@jolly narwhal @austere patio Need to thank everyone who helped with this new zigbee network assembly. Here link my new network, (vesivahti = water leak sensor) have quite bad signal, but working ok. I dont know why that not connect nearest router. But everything works like a charm now many thanks. https://imgur.com/a/hPXkMiu
or was it... zigbee2mqtt won't load it's page, but the key stuck this time...
Hi
Check the logs
Yeah, just powercycled the stick also, no diff, will hit the logs
That was interesting... I found 10 lines of folders, changing rapidly, with wrong permissions... A new folder every other second...
Hands down the strangest "log" iv'e seen so far. I change the permission on one folder, but have little time to enter it to see whats inside before its gone... ๐ฎ
Managed to cat the log.txt before lost, and yes, there are errors... "Config not consistent with backup"
Should I just delete the backup? Ah, found it, says right there. Thanks for the hint! ๐
Hm... still won't load, have restarted addon, there's no log.txt in the folders any more
And just realized I should've used the log from within the addon as well... ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
Why does devices try to pair despite not in pairing mode, and while z2m joining mode is off?
What's the exact error?
First line of it; "Configuration is not consistent with adapter state/backup!" and lower it states to remove coordinator_backup.json, after things starts to work again. So all good. But still get errors when joining devices
A restart fixed those errors, so I'm happy. Sorry for the trouble and thanx for the help! ๐
Is it possible for me to run Zigbee MQTT alongside ZHA? I only have one Zigbee USB stick attached. I ask because ZHA is working great and I have everything configured under it. I don't want to mess with a stable system. Unfortunately I have a single device which as far as I can tell features a custom solution in ZigbeeMQTT... (Develco ZHEMI101 to set things like pulse rate and interface mode)
You'd need another coordinator, and enough routers to reach the device
You'd also need a clear Zigbee channel
It might be easier to develop a quirk for ZHA
Unfortunately that's not something I am able to do.
It looks like ZHA now supports the device itself but I'm not confident based on the discussion threads I will be able to configure it in the same manner provided by ZigbeeMQTT.
As long as you have a free Zigbee channel available in your surroundings get a second Zigbee-coordinator (either a USB-stick or a LAN-coordinator, best with CC2652P) and configure that one to use Zigbee2MQTT.
You might even like it so much that youโll want to migrate all your devices to Z2M, itโs a great subsystem. ๐
Make sure to setup Mosquitto and the MQTT-integration first if not already done.
If you are new to MQTT also install the MQTT-Explorer or similar program on a Mac/PC to take a look into the MQTT-topics of your broker. (If you are not you will probably have already done so ๐)
I am seeing exception in the logs whenever i view zha device
"Received invalid command; diagnostic/get"
I just upgraded to 2022.2. not sure if this was there before
is this a known issue/can be ignored?
Hello everyone, Im having a big zigbee problem. I got the Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 Dongle Plus. Installed the newewst Zstack firmware. But in ZHA, it cant detect devices (besides original dongle). Trying to pair SNZB-02, a USB extension cord length away from the computer, next to the SNZB-02.
Althoguth i just got them to get detected in zigbee2mqtt... hmm
I guess im good for now, but if any one has any ideas, im still interested in thoughts. Thank you and good night
@mint flame Maybe not worth mentioning but did you enable pairing in ZHA?
I'm using ZHA and it's working great. I was just wondering if there is a way to group motion sensors? I have a couple of odd shaped rooms and I was wondering what the best way is to have 2 or 3 sensors act as one.
Ahh okay that makes sense.
I was just wondering if there was a ZigBee group option like there is with lights.
I'm trying to do almost everything in the UI so that I don't forget how the hell things are working in a year's time! ๐คฃ
Not sure if that will behave the same
Also long live yaml
None of that UI nonsense
I had the whole house working on a fully yaml setup, but a few months back I had a fresh start and I've managed to do almost everything I wanted in the UI, on my phone, while at work!
Go back to IRC old man
Hey, not my fault you weren't born when I started doing cool stuff
Hey, do you People know if for Zigbee2MQTT image it possible to pass env variable as values to secret.yaml file?
I want ot pass user and password to access eclipse-mqtt server
I think I've found what I want - https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/guide/configuration/#environment-variables
I was just about to post a link to that

Let's test it out
ZIGBEE2MQTT_CONFIG_MQTT_USER=user
ZIGBEE2MQTT_CONFIG_MQTT_PASS=pass
Yes haha
Yay, it worked, thanks!
Hi Guys anybody reported an issue with Sonoff Zigbee Bridge using ZHA i have just updated and gone from 101 devices to 260 ?
Didnโt see it in breaking changes
It looks like it has remapped things i already have and named them as their default names.
Hey guys
Does anyone use Aqara H1 Wired switches? if yes did anyone make it work with Conbee? or did anyone make it work other way with HA?
@gaunt forge hmm are you telling me that isnt automatically done when ZHA is doing its scanning/listening for new devices screen/state?
i'm using ZHA and i've got a light switch in my back office which which is zigbee but it keeps disconnecting. It is one of 2 furthest devices i have so i'm putting it down to that. But on my zigbee visualisation map it shows a) not as a router (its a perm powered light switch) and b) connected to something that is not exactly the nearest. I have another device in the same room, a battery powered smoke alarm and it connects to a much more sensible 'router' and doesn't appear to disconnect all the time.
Is there anything i can do ?
all the devices continue to work as expected but the error shows up any time i view ZHA device
Am I right that WiFi antennas for zigbee dongle will work?
Same frequency band, so it should be fine
can anyone tell me when a zigbee light is turned off (power off), how long it takes for ZHA to recognize it as unavailable? I used ZHA one year ago, at that time my osram lights took hours to be reported as unavailable. But deconz addon reports it as unavailable with 1/2 minutes.
this is configurable under the ZHA Config panel.
yeah, i figured that might be the case with the antennas. but its a bit annoying that the perm powered device isn't being picked up as a router. is there anything I can do to force it to be one (ie is it something which the ZHA controller dictates or is it the unit itself that decides?)
I can't really add any more routers as I already have a bunch that are as close as I can possibly get at the back of the house that is a straight line going through two patio windows. (but its actually connecting to a light upstairs in the back of the house)
Again, is there any way of 'forcing' a device to use a specific router?
anyone know why wifi smart devices are cheaper than zigbee smart devices (such as plugs)?
The manufacturers don't have to make them work to a given standard, and can do what they want - locking you into their cloud and ecosystem
the wifi ones? @sour shadow Doesnt zigbee manufacturers do that too?
@mint flame Discord isn't like IRC, you don't have to tag people on every response. Keep in mind that every time you tag somebody, they get a notification ping. That can very quickly become annoying and people may block you.
When using Discord's new Reply feature it defaults to pinging the person you reply to, click @ ON to @ OFF to stop this - on the right side of the compose bar.
You have to change this every time (thank the Discord devs for that).
Sure, but they have to comply with Zigbee standards... to some degree, which takes more work
fair enough. What's the deal with tuya devices? Are they one of the locked zigbee ones, or can they be used without it still with workarounds?
They're just an example of how somebody can "comply" with a standard while mostly ignoring it
has anybody got any experience with Ethernet based Zigbee hubs? I've been looking at the ZiGate-Ethernet but as it's out of stock wondered if there were any other options/recommendations?
Buy Tube's ๐
I hear this guy tube makes good stuff.๐คช
hi. So I have updated to 2022.2.0 and now all zha devices are offline.
Hadn't heard of yours Tube, thanks for the info I'll take a look
I'm assuming the external antenna is for the Zigbee protocol and not wifi?
correct. also wifi is not initialized on the esp32 to avoid any 2.4 ghz interference.
good to know, see you have a PoE model too which is great
yes PoE is popular.
is there any difference between the CC265 and ESP32 types from an end user perspective? or is it just chipset of preference?
i.e. they both work the same?
ESP32 handles the ethernet and the tcp serial connection. the CC2652 handles the zigbee.
sorry I meant EFR32
I do sell non PoE models with an EFR32 based zigbee module. these are not well supported under Zigbee2Mqtt so would be best for someone who is set on running ZHA.
the EFR32 radios do have an upgrade path to run zigbee and thread concurrently in the future. its early days with that though.
ISTR there's timing differences with the network protocol for the EFR vs TI, that means that the EFR is more at risk of timing issues - though I believe that's mostly an issue with WiFi connected coordinators
technically the CC2652 can do thread too but their isn't anything that I know of out yet moving in the direction like SiLabs is doing with the EFR32 and multi protocol.
OK so I'm going to go for the PoE model which is CC2652, and then hope that TI provide firmware updates to support thread in the future
Thanks tube & Tinkerer

This is from a ZigbeeMQTT documentation at <https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/ZHEMI101.html>. How do I do the equivalent of this in ZHA? I'm currently digging through the menus in Device -> Manage Clusters but have not been able to find a cluster, cluster attribute, or cluster command by this name.
What coordinator are you using?
Sorry for chiming in as a newbie: If and when thread/matter takes hold, what is the most realistic migration scenario for typical setups? Run two meshes on the same channel (it is hard enough to get one free from WiFi), on seperate channels, some gradual migration with backwards compatibility (one concentrator serves thread and Zigbee) or the throw everything away and rebuy with thread scenario?
Don't worry about it until thread/matter becomes enough of a thing
Yes, it will be years of course until it gains traction (two? three?) but I would be interested in educated guesses. Running two meshes in parallel does not scare me at all.
I mean, I suspect the answer will be that most folks will run their new Thread/Matter setup alongside everything else
It's not like I'm going to go out and buy a few hundred Thread sensors to replace all my Zigbee and Z-Wave ones
Neither will I, but it would be cool if there was some limited interoperability. If not, I would perobably move devices around so that one mesh grows, and the other one shrinks in the long run.
zha+CC2532. Now restored backup of Core 2021.12.10 and zigbee is working again.
That may happen, it's a couple of years too early to tell ๐
I have the same issue but a restore doesn't seem to have fixed it. ๐ฌ
Using a Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus
Did the update this morning and everything was offline. Integration showing as "Failed to set up".
Did a restore back to 12.10 but still having the issue. ๐ฌ
Using ZHA by the way
Anyone else having the same?
Just a little question, I've looked at the "visualization" tab in ZHA, it doesn't show me the lines in between the devices, also doesn't show the strenght of the signal each device has. Is this something I can enable? (Worth noting I only have 1 coordinator, 0 routers and 2 sensors connected currently
^ picture of what it looks like for me
Also have this error:
Logger: zigpy.application

First occurred: 17:33:19 (1 occurrences)
Last logged: 17:33:19
Couldn't start application
Is that my issue?
@scarlet vigil I just did all that firmware changes with the dongle plus yesterday. how did you do a backup of the previous firmware?
I didn't change the firmware at all
This stick is just out the box and was plug and play a few weeks ago
I have my whole home running on HA, including my heating system, boiler. Things like this make me think not twice, but three times before updating anything.
it's -15C outside currently. So you can imagine my stress levels when it went offline.
I'm glat it's back online after backup was restored, but I'm afraid to even touch it now.
This is why you have rollback plans, redundant hardware and backups
yes, but backups don't always work, as mentioned above
They do if you test them
Best regards someone who has worked with backups for decades
The full backup seems to have restored okay but I'm still having an issue which I don't quite get.
With fear of being exposed to be a total novice here... How and why should I be firmware updating the sonoff stick? Can I do that through HA?
Through the cli of a *nix machine preferably
Im new AF too
I dont actually know why It needs to be updated, i assume the newer version allows the stick to do more than it was doing before.
But I can say that updating firmware isnt the same as software
Or fix features and add bugs
That is more common
lol tru
But I dont know if it would have worked at all with ZHA or zigbeeMQTT before updating the firm ware, because i assumed something wouldnt have worked right, like itwas locked into using a certain manufacturers stuff by default
Yeah I get that. What I mean is, I assume that upgrading HA isn't going to require a firmware update to the stick?
Upgrade the firmware?
Okay, so how on earth did the HA update break my perfectly working ZHA setup, and then downgrading again doesn't revert back to working?
while you are tryingto research this, try using zigbee2mqtt isntead
If I need a quick cheap repeater/router does it matter if it is zha/mqtt that's flashed on it? (If I'm using zha on ha)
Oh god please no. I spent a week getting ZHA perfect
Everything named properly, everything automated.
That made no sense
Shell shock right now!
Devices don't have ZHA or mqtt
I need a repeater to try to resolve the problem highlighted earlier today as it seems I don't have any other option
No. I mean the usb repeaters etc
Why?
It's literally just for one device that's not connecting properly ...see my issue if you scroll up a couple hours
They don't have ZHA or MQTT firmware, they have nothing to do with ZHA, Zigbee2MQTT, or deCONZ
Pretty much any mains powered Zigbee device does what you need
Because I don't need any more of them in my back office and figured that was overkill.
Fair enough. Will see if I can find a cheapo plug socket or something then
Are plug sockets likely to act as a router?
Most
I mean the device I'm having issues with isn't being seen as a repeater and it's a perm light switch
So Tuya then?
Let me guess, two-wire?
Possibly. I didn't know there was an issue with tuya related devices? I thought it was just a general app to manage them with (and I'm not using it so wasn't an issue....clearly it is though)
How is two wire different ?
I just ordered the better looking of the , pretty much 2 styles of switch
My Tuya wall switch doesn't even behave in a group
Hmm well I've not even figured out ZigBee groups yet. I've got to look into that. Is it important?
Yes
I know the answer to this but ... If I remove ZHA and then re-add it I assume all my entities and devices vanish..?
Just reading up. It's just for if you want multiple devices to be turned on or off as a single entity? I don't have any devices I need to do that with other than a couple of bulbs but I use light groups for them
Lights groups are not great for ZigBee
Yes removing a integration deletes all devices associated entities
Maaaaan.
yes. They will reappear with default entity names
Argh
Ok well I only have a couple of bulbs I do that with. Seem to work ok. What is the downside?
The good thing about zigbee2mqtt is that all renaming lives in yaml
I can move and remove as much as I want
Message flooding
I wish zha had that
Can't zha handle 2 or 3 instructions without getting confused ?
The ZigBee mesh is low bandwidth
Hence ZigBee groups are kinder
One message
Instead of x
Do they ever respond individually any more if you've created a ZigBee group ?
Cool. That was my main concern as I have routines which use only 1 bulb of the 2 ๐
had what?
setting entity/device names in yaml
so I could restore the network and then bind devices to it
now it is very difficult to restore the network nd automtions when something breaks
just back up the registries
Nope, broadcasts are wayway more taxing on the network than unicast messages. Group messages get repeated 3 times by every router on the network, unicast just gets routed via the necessary routers
that's where that lives
did that, and it did not work when restored
I'd have to see exactly what you did
there should be a less cumbersome method
there is a lot being worked on ATM
things are going to change
don't have a timeframe or additional details atm
If I use zigbeee2mqtt can I configure it all with the UI
I like my UI and won't be shamed!
Well, compared to light groups they are surely kinder ?
Yes
@mint flame Dunno, Iโm not using ZHA but on Z2M there a button in the UI you have to push to start the pairing mode for a predefined amount of time (240 seconds by default).
There must be something similar in ZHA.
Wish I could go back in time 5 hours and not update HA now ๐ข
So I removed the integration and tried to re-add it. the wizard detects the stick but I get the same error
I did not. Never do the first update of a new major release. Iโll wait until 2022.02.5 or so
Speaking of removing the integration- is there a way to backup the entity names by using a template? The zha-device-exporter custom component doesnโt seem to work with last few versions of HA
I don't think it will ever be easier for the network, maaybe if you try to control most lights on the network at once. It is however more reliable and all lights will switch in sync.
Eh, i use ZigBee groups for 80+ bulbs and outlets, never had issues, used light groups earlier, that was horrible
Very inconsistent
Especially with adaptive lighting
in that kind of group I'm sure it makes sense, just don't do more than 8 calls within 8 seconds
I usually use group with there are more than ~10 devices, it looks much nicer when they get controlled in sync
No my groups are 4-15 in each
But I have multiple groups
And send commands to the groups at the same time
I have a group with a whole three lights in it, and the difference in behaviour is quite visible
NM, found it Petro had a great answer in โhow to enemy rate entities belonging to an integration?โ community thread
So I'm looking at z2m... I've installed the addon but I'm getting errors starting it so now I'm down another whole rabbit hole!!
@odd mango @scarlet vigil Can you enable https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/zha/#debug-logging and post the full debug log of the network failing to start up (it'll be in /config/home-assistant.log)? Couldn't start application alone doesn't mean much.
Thanks @austere patio I'm just trying z2m now but getting issues there too

What does the ZHA log say?
I bought a nortek HUSBZB zwave and zigbee combo stick. Zwave works fine on it. I cant get the zigbee to work at all. The firmware updated fine though when I did that. Anyone else have any ideas on how to test this thing to see if its broken? Is there a windows app that I can use to communicate with it?
{"ports": [{"port": "/dev/ttyUSB1", "vid": "10C4", "pid": "8A2A", "deviceType": "zigbee", "stackVersion": "6.7.8-373"}, {"port": "/dev/ttyUSB0", "vid": "10C4", "pid": "8A2A", "deviceType": "unknown"}, {"port": "/dev/ttyAMA0", "deviceType": "unknown"}]}
seems like its reporting on this firmware update script but its not responding to zigbee2mqtt
You may be better off using ZHA - I seem to recall that support for that in Z2M is still experimental
Make sure to set the correct baudrate in Z2M
hmmm this might be an issue. I run this stick on a raspi4 upstairs. my HA is on a VM in a dead zone
I tried that but let me give it another shot. using a different raspberry pi now
bingo! that was the trick. thank you so much
Just in case I am missing something super obvious here.... in z2m, if pairing is enabled and then I put the device into pairing mode, it should just... pair right? I don't need to do anything else?
You open the network for joins. If you get a device into joining mode, it should search for your network and try joining.
I accidentally forgot to set my channel and I just joined a device oops
I'm having way less luck pairing things with z2m than I did with ZHA before it fell over
same adaptor etc
Yes, thatโs how it works for me and should work.
I've managed to get a few bits paired now, but some of my hue bulbs are just not appearing. had no issue pairing in ZHA... hmmm...
Never had any pairing issues with Z2M, every device but one ikea button paired within seconds
Got my Hue devices still on the Hue bridgeโฆ
hi guys, can someone recommend me some Zigbee light switches (neutral cable ones) UK
Just trying to understand, are tuya products inferior to other zigbee products in some way? they are priced much cheaper from what ive seen
tuya connect to zigbee fine, it's just that they use their own tuya commands, not standard zigbee. commands for device function so a lot of work has to go into trying to decode those commands and translate them to be usable. (I may be over simplifying it but that's the gist).
but isnt most of that is handled by interfaces like HA with integrations? Is there any negative tradeoff for choosing tuya when it comes to their use within HA?
If using tuya zigbee products with z2m or zha they need to have had support added to work as they donโt follow anything really close to the zigbee spec. For any tuya zigbee product there could be dozens of variants with slightly different function but showing as the same model but a different manufacturer code. Tuya is just a pain in the ass.
uh, latest Z-Stack for CC2652P2 still seems to crash occasionally
The developer branch or the one in master?
What does the crash look like?
not really liking these zigbee door sensors I bought. The one right next to my hub works great. As soon as you try to zigbee through a wall its like nope
zwave hits these walls like a boss
Any objections to this zigbee thermostat? Not sure why I didn't notice it before, but it's very reasonable at $50
Centralite Pearl Thermostat (Works with SmartThings, Spectrum, Cox, Time Warner Cable, Vera, and ZigBee Platforms), White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KVDFRGC/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_D495VXDE5P6CMS2CCZZS
Supported as well
Question: I see a lot of people saying to use a USB extension cable with Zigbee and ZWave dongles. Why?
Electromagnetic interference from the machine it's plugged into
just like antennas in general need reach and no interference
actually, only the one from the master branch. The dev branch only seems to have a fix regarding TouchLink: https://github.com/Koenkk/Z-Stack-firmware/commit/a4fbab342c131e8ec387e02ac9662d5344c48224
I'll try updating it later though. It only crashes about once a month or so, but it's still somewhat annoying
I'm still puzzling on this if anyone has any ideas.
tldr in ZigbeeMQTT you can publish a message to set the device operating mode and I cannot find how to do this in ZHA
Hi, I'm lately experiencing a very strange issue. My conbee set up with ZHA is connected, but it's failing. Seeing this error:

Anyone know what's causing it?
I ended up publishing my question here: https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/issues/1329 Maybe I'll learn something.
Hi guys! Nice upgrade this time! But... after installing (core-2022.2.1) one of my HUE motion sensors is acting up, always detecting... Restart of HA does not help. There was a bug causing this effect not that long ago... Has anyone else noticed anything similar?
I re-joined it and got this error (using Zigbee2Mqtt): error Failed to configure '0x001700000002c055', attempt 1 (Error: Bind 0x001700000002c055/2 genPowerCfg from '0x0012000000a54f2a/1' failed (AREQ - ZDO - bindRsp after 10000ms) at Timeout._onTimeout (/app/node_modules/zigbee-herdsman/src/utils/waitress.ts:64:35) at listOnTimeout (internal/timers.js:557:17) at processTimers (internal/timers.js:500:7))

hi guys, can someone recommend me some Zigbee light switches (neutral cable ones) UK
A quick zigbee2mqtt question... I can't seem to see in the UI I way to assign a whole device to an Area, I only see the option per entity. I'm 90% sure than when I was running ZHA I was able to set the whole device to an area. Am I missing something?
Okay - had to click the pencil next to the device name - sorry brain fart
Move to z2m from ZHA has gone pretty well. The only downside seems to be for my hue dimmers. ZHA out of the box gave me loads of possible commands, single, double, triple pressed for each button and holds as well
Any idea if/how I can replicate that with z2m? We use these dimmer shortcuts for triggering a lot of things
Hi, I bought some Heiman HS1SA smoke detectors. I added them to Phoscon without issue, and they are appearing in HA under the deCONZ integration. However, I can't seem to find how to trigger the the siren from HA, which makes them kind of useless
I'm new to Zigbee. What I've seen people use is ZHA. Can this run alongside deCONZ, or do I need to uninstall the latter first
Is it even possible to trigger them manually?
I might have misunderstood, in which case I need to get some sirens too I guess
Pretty sure you can yes, I don't use buttons but I've tested that feature before on both hue and aqara
Just watch the mqtt messages while you press
And then you know what to trigger on
I've found a blueprint actually which is nice
needed to tweak the tiggers from having dashes to underscores but other than that it works well
is it better to run zigbee integrated or on a separate zigbee2mqtt host?
just curious what how everyone handles this
For some reason the battery of my Zigbee devices getting absolutely drained by ZHA since the update
mines also that is why i'm debating splitting it ๐ฆ
battery life is much shorter since i sucked zigbee into HA
what are the devices in question?
an Aqara contact sensor (window-door sensor) and an Aqara motion sensor
also, batter is kind of faked based on voltage
The coordinator is a Conbee II
Does your ZHA visualization work?
have you replaced any and witnessed the same thing w/ a fresh battery?
I don't know how old the batteries themselves are but the devices are like 1.5 weeks old
I've only just recently installed them
Xiaomi devices just do their thing... there really isn't anything we can do to impact that
https://gyazo.com/cc3128cc8416d4768f3c266f69d60a0a My ZHA visualization is also not showing lines between devices, this has been the case for atleast a week (it worked for a short while). I've tried different browsers, restarting, clearing cache
Would you say I should stay away from Xiaomi/aqara?
no
@icy grove yes that is working fine
i just replaced a sensor with fresh batteries
hasn't even been 2 weeks
down to 12%
this was def not happening in zigbee2mqtt
i was just trying to simply
by collapsing
Zigbee2mqtt seems quite intimidating so that's why I went with ZHA
@ripe hazel any chance you still have the z2m setup?
I moved to ZHA because zigbee2mqtt was not reporting some of the entities
Hmm weird, anyone a suggestion as to why the lines wouldn't show for me? Not a huge deal but still weird
@tropic depot nah got rid of it
Sorry for not knowing, but are you like a developer? @tropic depot
i primarily went to zha because it (1) recognized the devices correctly (2) reported all entities
oh that's great, thanks for responding so quickly ๐
i was originally zha and split to try to not have zigbee affected when i restarted zha
but i feel i lost more than i gained by doing that
I am working on that
not too much to share yet but that issue will be solved in the future
so went back to zha
Which issue are we talking about?
this: #zigbee-archived message
ah ok
we have had reports before for Ikea devices going nuts and eating batteries but that was because of firmware issues w/ them in particular
nothing on Xiaomi
they generally last forever
i am using sengled
and for the most part they last for a very long time
but lately after upgrades has not been the case
unless it's not reporting correctly - but 1 of them drained in like 2 weeks
i run a report every morning on all them
Maybe there's a little bug going on since the last Home Assistant update? When I first installed my sensors they both showed 80%, then a day later 100%, so seems like something is getting a little weird every now and then
again it's an approximation based on voltage so this isn't out of the ordinary.
make sure that is working correctly and is just once a day?
I'll just wait it out a bit and see how long they'll actually last, don't want to get too hang up on it for now.
good idea
Any idea about the visualization lines not showing? Or is that just Xiaomi devices doing their thing?
no fairly certain that's the conbee
and normal after restarts
when is the last time you restarted?
I got 3 aqara water leak sensor and they are all '100%' battery after a year. Guess they will go 100 to 0 real quick one day ๐
I restarted Home Assistant core yesterday
but I've had the lines not showing for longer than a week now
that is generally what happens... but usually after 2+ years
