it doesn't have a boot button.. actually there is no button on ZBDongle-P
I have one of the 1st gen ones connected to Z2M. All events are picked up and it works flawlessly. From what I have heard, the 2nd gen ones work just as well. In terms of better/worse, I will always choose Z2M over a hub, regardless of manufacturer.
thanks.
@forest cobalt do you also have the hue lights, connected to Z2M?
if yes, are you able to effectively dim the lights by holding the button?
for instance via the hub, if you send too many commands, lights become irresponsive for some time, I think due to hub limitations
I have a few Hue bulbs, yeah. But I don't do any kind of dimming, tbh. At least not via buttons and/or remotes. However, yes, you are going to experience issues with the hub doing that sort of thing because HA communicates with it over the API, so it's not handled on the hub itself. So, if you are planning on dimming bulbs and such, you might be better off staying with the Hue hub.
I'd like to use the Tap switch rotation
to dim complete room by X percent, from whatever is the current setup
that being said, it looks like it is better I make an update and use Z2M for all
Yep
inputs (buttons) and outputs (lights)
With a hue dimmer?
Yup, If you are going to do that, it's better to have them all in one ecosystem.
there are 2 options, with dimmer you have on/off buttons + "volume" up/down
with tap, you have a rotation wheel
I have 40ish hue bulbs in z2m working perfectly
lovely, I'm currently at cca 35
You have to recreate the logic hue uses
how do you manage the "rooms" and "zones" to effectively reduce number of zigbee messages sent over network?
using clusters ?
But you can do hold down for brightness to go up or down at least mine are setup that way
I’ve never touched clusters that’s for binding like a light switch and a bulb
so if you have like 5 bulbs in a room, these bulbs are assigned to "living room" homeassistant room
You have zigbee groups that would do the same thing of a zone in hue
yes, groups is what I'll need to have a look at I guess
thanks to both of you, great insights!
I would go with Z2M groups before HA groups.
So Z2M groups first, which will create new entity (I guess?) and then this entity is to be assigned to HA Room/Zone/Group (whatever is the naming)?
Yup
For instance, I have a group in Z2M of 6 lights in my bathroom. They come over to HA as light.bathroom_lights. Single entity and done. 🙂
It’s a new entity that when used sends a multicast across the mesh instead of a unicast per bulb if you instead only used a home assistant group
I have 11 hue bulbs in my kitchen perfectly turning on in sync
Didn’t work right in hue bridge but perfect in z2m
so the only thing I will lose is Hue app that I used to setup colors for scenes, which I can replace by HA dashboard
I'll survive I guess
ah not a big deal here
You can do that with led strips and wled / ledfx / prismatik
I have 2 let strips in the kitchen and bathroom
but indeed I don't want epilepsy, so not real fan of these lights with music
lol I have a few Aqara T1 led strips that do music lighting. It was cool for about 10 minutes, lol.
I tried at least hue music, so I can say that it worked 😄
now, the last question, tricky part
what's the simplest way to get lights "unplugged" from hue
and plugged to Z2M ?
any clue on that?
Unpair them from Hue, pair them to Z2M
When you remove them from the Hue app, they get reset.
Sometimes that fails (because Hue). When that happens, you can use a dimmer remote to reset them.
When you delete a device from hue app (not motion sensor or other battery devices) it goes into pairing mode. The best solution is to start deleting devices one by one in hue app starting closest to your new z2m dongle and join them as you move outwards
Then add sensors last or dimmers etc
guys
this is awesome
just tested with new setup
really appreciating the help and quick response here!
I'm trying to reset my Zigbee dongle. I've used cc2338-bsl to flash the firmware. So I did py python cc2538-bsl.py -p COM5 -b 115200 C:\Users\gabin\Downloads\CC1352P2_CC2652P_launchpad_coordinator_20230507.hex but it said : "Opening port COM5, baud 115200
Connecting to target...
ERROR: Timeout waiting for ACK/NACK after 'Synch (0x55 0x55)'"
So I used a prog "uartLog.py" to open the port. After that, I did the same command and it put : " Opening port COM5, baud 115200
Connecting to target...
CC1350 PG2.1 (7x7mm): 352KB Flash, 20KB SRAM, CCFG.BL_CONFIG at 0x00057FD8
Primary IEEE Address: 00:12:4B:00:30:CA:8A:D2
ERROR: int() can't convert non-string with explicit base". However, I used the file Sonoff gave me so I don't understand the problem.... Script: https://electrolama.com/radio-docs/flash-cc-bsl/
Firmware: https://github.com/Koenkk/Z-Stack-firmware/blob/master/coordinator/Z-Stack_3.x.0/bin/CC1352P2_CC2652P_launchpad_coordinator_20230507.zip
I have a Sonoff ZBMini (https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/ZBMINI.html) recently installed. It flashes green. I cannot get it to show up, at all, in z2m. I have turned off the power to it to make sure it is in pairing mode, with no success. I've put another Zigbee device next to it, which has 200 linkquality, so that's not the issue. Z2M is in pairing mode. Any ideas?
Does Z2M support group inside a group? I'm trying to implement "light.home" functionality, that would toggle all groups (rooms) in a synchronized manner.
No but devices can be part of multiple groups
Hi all, I was recently having issues with my Zigbee setup. HA could no longer see my Zigbee devices. The integration page showed an error like it had problems with the USB stick. In an attempt to fix it I removed the integration. My issue is I cannot re-add Zigbee because HA says it is already configured. How can I fully reset Zigbee in HA?
how does this hold up against one of the TUBEZ? https://a.co/d/bJoiZJN
would prefer the poe tube but this price is hard to pass up
In short ... terribly
The Sonoff P has known hardware problems
If you want a cheap ass stick then the Sonoff E is ok
Today, the mailman brought my Zigbee USB dongle, and now I've already set it up along with all my devices in Home Assistant. It was ridiculously easy! But now, the real problem is, what on earth am I going to do with the rest of my day??
so the tube is the overall best bet then i would take it
Tube or SMLight
Tube actively supports the community, which IMO is a measurable plus point
agreed
its the best option i have seen
just a hit to the paycheck lol
anyone spot anything else worth grabbing to start your setup on prime day?
a solution is to create a new Z2M group for all lights (that are integrated in Z2M) and the potentially another group inside HA to integrate Z2M group + other lights not part of Z2M. Thanks
My current coordinate broken and I ordered a Sonoff (coming today), do I need to go around and pair all my zigbee devices to this new coordinator? I have the json files from back in the zigbee2mqtt installation.
Hello, I am looking for a swimming pool thermometer to integrate into home assistant (if possible via zigbee), and to my great surprise I cannot find what I am looking for.
Do you have any products to recommend to me?
Why do you think it's broken?
It snapped in half as I was trying to reseat it.. It was in the server for years and its a bit flimsy (the body of it)
Oh, that kind of broken 😄
It's cheap so for now I'll let it sit on the side while I bought a new one to use and will troubleshoot the other one later (if needed)
That's just a flesh wound... lol
True, but the antenna came off so I need to resolder that
Im guessig I'll have to re-pair everything again? 😦
What was the coordinator you had originally?
Things should just magically work once you update the serial port path (assuming the coordinator doesn't arrive with network settings pre-loaded)
It was that CXXXX one, I bought on ebay, small unit / flashed
Wouldn't that require a coordinator_backup.json though? And yeah, the PAN/ePAN will have to match.
Z2M makes one and I think supports cross-adapter migration by now?
I think so... haven't actually done it as my coordinator refuses to die so I can get a new one 😉
Damn Tube and his quality coordinators. lol
So we are thinking the new coordinate install, change configuraiton.yaml to right port an it'll auto-magic work? 🤞
Should work that way.
Will test and report back, thanks!
Is there a way to force a route for a device? I have one that is connecting directly to the coordinator with an LQI of 1 and there are 2 routers that are a lot closer.
ZHA: open the router you want to pair with and chose "Pair via this device". IIn Z2M, drop down the arrow at the "Permit Join" button and choose the router you want to pair with and then hit the button to allow pairing.
BUT, the end device may not stay on that router if it determines that a better path exists.
Also, LQI is point in time and doesn't really mean much.
Hello, recently some of my entities stop responding from time to time. In the Z2M log, I get this. What does it mean?

I'm guessing you have a Sonoff dongle? Are you using the ember firmware and on the latest firmware (7.4)?
Correct unfortunately. And no, I don't think I do. I suppose that's the logical next step, yeah. 👍
Yes sir. 🙂 You've been here long enough... you know the script 😉
I echo you - I'm just waiting for it to die so that I can justify a new coordinator
My coordinator WILL NOT DIE. 4 f'ing years!!! It's more reliable than all my other networking gear combined! lmao
This is your fault @molten linden ^^^ 😉
Can’t believe I’ve been doing this for 4 years… that’s the crazy thing
Seriously... But man... you need to stop building quality products 😉 I want to give you more money! lol
Sadly more often than not I hear about the ones that have issues. So it’s not all stars and happiness 🤷🏼♂️
Z2M -> it is not possible to update the scene config once you have created it ?
Wait... you're creating scenes in Z2M? Why not just use HA scenes?
Yeah, I know and that's why I called you out of hiding... I'm a success story. You're welcome. 🙂
I'm reading around the web that scenes in Z2M are more smooth than in HA
maybe I'm missing something obviously.
To do what you want to do, you need to use scenes in HA. Yes, scenes in Z2M can be "smoother", but you lose the dynamic aspect of it without some major work involving MQTT and sending commands.
The buttons don't light up like the manual says they would. According to it that happens when it's connected to a hub as at that point they expect you to use the app
the question then is what does the app call to set it
in general, I'm trying to achieve 2 things:
- Have different scenes that I can control with Hue Tap -> this I can get easily done, but I'm wondering if Z2M scenes can be updated once they are created. Maybe I will switch to HA scenes instead
- And then a possibility to have a motion that will put all lights to max brightness and after that back to the values they were before. I hoped a group can be used but I have to use entity-by-entity in the dynamic scene to capture the state before I change to full brightness.
I will move my ass to HA scenes 😄
So, the app does the same thing that ZHA/Z2M does. Issues cluster commands. But, if it's paired to HA, you shouldn't need the physical buttons at all. On the device page, there should be either limits calibration buttons OR a dropdown. That's how it is on my E1 curtain motors at least.
So, for #1, it looks like you can, but you would need to send MQTT commands to do it: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/guide/usage/scenes.html
For #2, try using the scene.create service in an automation with the group entity. It should capture all the attributes of the lights. If not, then yeah, you'd have to list the entities.
I have one blind that keeps not responding. I have my coordinator and 4 routers located throughout. The blind literally right next to it has no issues. The blind I have issues with only seems to be connecting to the coordinator, the other ones move around a bit.
That's odd for Aqara devices since they tend to stay on the same router regardless. Unless they are Zigbee3.0 devices (which I doubt they are). You might just have a bad roller. 😦
For #2, it does not capture every light separately, when activating scene back, it sets all lights to the same state. I tested with group generated from Z2M, and with group generated in HA Groups helper.
so the only solution I have is to list all entities, which I can live with, unless I could use the "variable" that would populate list of entities in the automation
Dongle P or Dongle E? For the P, you'd use the silabs flasher. For the E, you need the z-stack firmware in koenkk's repo.
@dusky flint ^^^
Yeah I just learnt to read, thanks! 😄 Erhm, not that I don't know, but would you happen to know... how I find out which verison I've got
....it might say on the back
other way around. P for znP (Z-Stack) E for Ember/EZSP SI Labs
Thanks... I ALWAYS mix them up.
This one then? https://darkxst.github.io/silabs-firmware-builder/
Yup. that would be the one.
I am offered version 7.3.1.0 from that one, but https://github.com/Koenkk/zigbee2mqtt/discussions/21462 recommends 7.4. Which one of these should I upload? https://github.com/darkxst/silabs-firmware-builder/tree/main/firmware_builds
Sorry, I could probably google my way to that
...or maybe not
Or just go with 7.3?
This one
It's still happening after the firmware update? What version of Z2M are you using?
1.39.0
I'm guessing the flash probably didn't take. I don't have the Sonoff dongle, so I can't really test it here.
I think it did - Settings -> About in Z2M:
Zigbee2MQTT version
1.39.0 commit: unknown

EmberZNet
Koordinatorrevision
7.4.1 [GA]
There are two zigbee devices afaik that seems to have dropped connection. One Hue Remote and one IKEA bulb (ie one end device and one router). Perhaps more
Have you tried to re-pair them? That might clear it up.
They are Yokee not Aqara (although who knows if those are the same or not). I just moved one of the repeaters into the same room as the blinds and it looks better now. i'm thinking its just low transmit power of these devices.
Huh... I've never heard of that brand (probably a Tuya knock off). Yeah, that might be it.
Yeah guess I'll have to resort to that. It gets a link value when doing a network scan (214) so it is responding in some way still, which is odd
Eh... when I re-paired that one, another one lost connection. It's almost as if the coordinator can't handle more devices
I've got 29 mains powered devices. Maybe it cant handle more?
On a sonoff? Eh, they aren’t robust, that’s for sure. I think the max is something like 30-35, maybe less depending on how busy your mesh is. Might be time to invest in something better.
Whats the best option these days? Thats in stock and ships to the cold north
https://smlight.tech/product/slzb-06/
Tube could ship to you, I think. But I don’t know what he has in stock ATM.
Thanks. @molten linden? 😇 I would prefer to not do PoE preferably. Skyconnect would also be an option for me, it's on sale here as well. Does it support more devices?
bad etiquette to just tag him- if you need something like support then it makes sense
Ehrm
In this instance, it’s fine.
I didn't need the etiquette police coming out of nowhere either tbh
I did however need to know if he delivers to Sweden 🙂
If he's bothered by it, I'm sure he can let me know himself.
Yikes
have shipped more than a few to Sweden over the years
nice! I assume https://tubeszb.com/product/cc2652p2-based-zigbee-to-ethernet-usb-serial-coordinator-2023/ is out of stock as it states. Will you be producing more?
I will be, it will also change to allow choice of radio cc2652p2, cc2652p7 or ef32 MGM24.
if i change the channel of my coordinator in zigbee2mqtt will i have to go back and repair everything?
Do you have any preferable High CRI/R9 bulbs with zigbee?
It does anyone for that matter.
honestly i think wiz are higher CRI but they are wifi
I can work with that
youd have to compare tech specs
i'd personally go hue unless you put two bulbs side by side and really like the other
I mainly want something really nice, like yuji quality
both are philips
Right yeah I have hue already
Also I have done wled as well so may just diy some stuff
I’m also trying to replace some old blown under cabinet fixtures
But mainly I just want a WiFi bulb with really inviting warm light
i think wiz is probably a good solution or worth testing against a hue bulb or two
Is there any way to make a trigger for an automation when a Zigbee device becomes offline?
Yes if using ZHA there is an event that is fired when the device goes offline and when the device becomes available
https://gist.github.com/dmulcahey/6a231d57ba1335fe4cd12b35366fae84 has an example on line 25
Unfortunately I have set it up with Z2M
I’d bet they have something similar. Their docs are decent. Give them a search
Here's the error I got @forest cobalt when trying to use the Sonoff (replacing broken coordinate)

I see they have availability, but I would have no clue how to use it as a trigger for an automation
By default the published availability payload is in legacy mode (online/offline).
In your example is event_data: { "device_event_type": "device_offline" } the same as the GUI showing "Became unavailable"?
what I shared is ZHA specific
Is there a generic way to do it for any device?
the state of the entities of the device should also switch to unavailable 🤷🏻♂️
I understand, but how would I lookup what that is called to use as a trigger?
I tried using "adapter: ember" as the Github link showed but now the error is the versions mismatch so I'm guessing I need to upgrade the firmware and I could use some help in how to do that on a Macbook.
sooo I bought a ZBT-1 (skyconnect). I was having issues with Z2M so I updated the firmware using https://connectzbt1.home-assistant.io/firmware-update/
It was successful. The dongle was HOT and now it is not recognized by my PC or home assistant.
I think its dead...
I just dont get this. I have some smart blinds. I have my coordinator and 4 routers. 2 of the routers are MUCH closer to this blind I am setting up than the coordinator is. If i try to 'permit join router' it doesn't connect at all. but if i permit join all, it connects, but only connects to the coordinator and then has a lot of issues because it is much much further away. I thought maybe these blinds for some reason won't work with repeaters? but if i do 5 or 6 blinds, 2-3 of them will connect to one of the repeaters just fine. i have tried everything in terms of resetting and repairing.
Hi. I'm currently using a Sonoff V2 usb stick as coorinator with ZHA on my "prod" system.
I have another VM with my dev/testing/sandbox environment. No zigbee, plain default installation.
I would like to give a try with Z2m,mqtt on my dev environment (I still have some unused "cheap zigbee bulbs").
I have nothing to realy complain about Sonof, but i guess having 2 of these will be a pain to assign/recognize/fix/troubleshoot in proxmox (🤔 ).
I have the same behaviour. All "end devices" that are in range of the coordinator are catched by my coordianator during setup/pairing. Not a real problem as coordinator can/should handle plenty of direct connections. I'm using ZHA, i don't have your options :-(.
"End/dumb devices" once paired will not chose another router/coordinator. So if you change the behaviour of your coodinator to only allow routers, i can assume you will lose all "dumb device" paired with it. ( my assumption ! )
I even unplugged the coordinator for 45 mins trying to get the devices to connect to the routers
Maybe someone here happens to know what imght be going wrong? I'm trying to move zigbee2mqtt from one host to another (both are proxmox lxc's). Per the documentation, I copied over the config files from the data directory, but the new z2m instance refuses to start up, because it expects the pan_id to be a number or GENERATE. In the config that I copied over it's actually secret.yaml which, according to the docs, should also work. So I'm a bit confused what's going wrong and how I can move my z2m instance properly, without having to repair everything etc.
A backup/restore may be? ( i have done that with succcess with pi-hole LXC )
Or "migrate" if your are in a proxmox cluster may be. I'm not a fan of LXC. I prefer isolated and fully virtualized VM. I only have one LXC atm for Jellyfin hardware GFX acceleration.
I would test a backup-restore first. ( Clean shutdown , backup, and restore on target proxmox)
You mean backup and restore the entire lxc? Yeah, that's not really an option I think 😅 , because I used tteck's proxmox scripts to set up a z2m container and there was an option for a lightweight Alpine-based z2m instance. So I choose that one, but apparantly the Alpine z2m version is way behind the normal z2m release so I want to move to a non-Alpine container now
So I setup a 2nd (non-Alpine) lxc which seems to work fine, but I can't seem to copy my z2m config as-is 😕
what do you mean by "Alpine Z2M", you'v setup an LXC container using a "preconfigured" stuff ??? mmm 😕
And now <music on> "You want to get freeee..." <music off>
https://tteck.github.io/Proxmox/ I used those helper scripts to setup the lxc
For z2m there was a 2nd option listed for an Alpine-based instance. without much thought I went for that one. Which apparantly wasn't the greatest of ideas 😅
okay I needed to take off the shell find those buttons haha. So I press the Boot button, as I turn off my device, then I power it up, then I put it in the serial port and then I stop pressing the Boot button. And now I flash my firmware with 2538-bsl, that's right ?
there is also a "RST" button I don't know if it means restart or rest but I would assume to restart it I just turn it off/On with the switch
It doesnt work 😢 it says the same error : "python cc2538-bsl.py -p COM5 -b 115200 C:\Users\gabin\Downloads\CC1352P2_CC2652P_launchpad_coordinator_20230507.hex

ERROR: Timeout waiting for ACK/NACK after 'Synch (0x55 0x55)'"
Maybe you broke your stick with a bad flash - the wrong firmware
Maybe it's already in use
What's the tool that does that for me ?
The fact is I never succeeded to flash the firmware, each time is time out haha
I used a code to open my serial port (maybe it's the tool you meant), but then I've got "Opening port COM5, baud 115200

my bad I pinged you
You're sure it's the P?
Yes, "Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus"
There's two of those
Plus doesnt mean P ?
Can also mean E
aaaah, and do you think this message "Opening port COM5, baud 115200

CC1350 PG2.1 (7x7mm): 352KB Flash, 20KB SRAM, CCFG.BL_CONFIG at 0x00057FD8

ERROR: int() can't convert non-string with explicit base" can mean I flash the firmware with wrong one ? Or just that I didn't succeed to flash ? Just to be sure i didn't destroy my dongle...
how do I know which one is it between P and E ? I didn't find the information in the flyer they give with the dongle
Probably means it didn't flash it
Where did you order it from?
Have you tried asking Sonoff for support?
Ok 😅
Yes I have tried they are fast like you haha, I have no answer since 2 days
Ok i find the information it’s a ZBDongle-P
It’s the same method with Linux ?
Yes, and the same docs 😉
ok boss thanks i'll try that
Solved, solution below.
Hey guys, I have Tuya 0601 (temperature&humidity sensor with time display). I found a custom quirk that makes it working with ZHA, even the time sync and everything. Only problem is that my sensor is now showing tempearure in Fahrenheits on the display. In the official tuya app you could change between celsius and fahrenheit, there's no physical button for it on the device. There is a function in the quirk for celsius x fahrenheit, but I am not sure how to set it in the device. Can anyone help me?
It's this quirk https://github.com/jacekk015/zha_quirks/blob/main/ts0601_temphumid.py, starting at the line 43.
I went into "manage zigbee device" and selected "TuyaTemperatureMeasurement" cluster, and attribute "temp_unit_convert", but I am not sure what to write in the value. Value was empty if I tried to read the attribute. I tried "Celsius", and I tried "0x00" but nothing worked.
0x00 is in hexadecimal. try just 0
Ah, my bad, there's a switch in the device info, which is just called Switch, it does nothing on its own, because the device is a bit lazy, but if you wake up the device by pressing the only button on top, and then switch the switch in the HA device info, it will actually change the temperature unit.
I'm using Conbee II with ZHA
Can anyone suggest a light switch for UK?
Device: Light Switch - UK
Budget: £0 - £100
Features: Dimming (optional), Easy Install (if possible too)
Colour: White
Please @ me
Hey a friend gave me a sonoff zb bridge they told me its flashed with tasmoto (they previously used it so it's not reset) I've only been able to get a flashing green light with no network showing up to be able to pair it, I've held it down for 5s and 10 and 40 and no luck. Need help thanks.
Please @ me if you can help
Hey all,
Im looking for more information to force my zigbee sensors to update more frequently. At this moment i have 2 temperature and humidity sensors. Those sensors does update very late. How can i improve this? Im using ZHA as main application.
I have 2 humidity sensors + temperature sensors . One TS0201 and one is TS0601 Manufacturer according to ZHA is _TZ3000_fllyghyj and _TZE200_9yapgbuv which should not be correct i guess. On the boxes the model says TH08Z and ZTH02. The zigbee coordinator i use is the SMLight SLZB-06M
Sidenote: I could go over to Zigbee2MQTT if that could be a solution.
I have a temperature +humidity sensor found as TZE200. It seems to update every 30 minutes or if there is a huge change to report. Otherwise Nothing.
I agree it can be slow. For real-time monitoring or used with a thermostat, i'm using ESP devices.
My Aqara sensors update every 0.2C and 0.1% humidity
ZHA asks sensors to send an update at most once every 30s, at least once every 15 minutes, and as soon as possible if there is a 0.5 C change. What behavior are you seeing?
If it's a sensor that doesn't actually implement the Zigbee spec, it will do its own thing and ignore the above config. You'll also miss reports if your sensor can't communicate reliably due to interference or range issues.
I indeed think ( haven't looked at it tho ) that it updates every 0.5 degrees. I will monitor it. If this is the case, it is acceptable. I can use it easily to switch an AC
Please use a code share site to share code or logs, for example:
- https://dpaste.org/ (select YAML for the language, and consider picking a longer expiry)
- http://pastie.org/ (select YAML for the language)
- https://paste.debian.net/ (you guessed it, select YAML as the language)
Please don't use Pastebin, since it can randomly add spaces to the main view. Please also don't share text as images since it makes it harder for people to help you. Remember that others may have colour blindness, impaired vision, etc.
Use one of those to share the log file from Z2M
Is that to me?
I think it’s a step ahead of me.
Well I thought it was related to a previous discussion so I deleted my mistake.
I’m kind of confused Zigbee2MQTT says it’s still starting and to try again.
I do and it says 502 bad gateway.
So, that's not the case?
It is the case but I’m stepping a few steps back to help clarify that issue.
I do not have anything that explicitly says ZHA
I have an integration that says Zigbee
That's ZHA
But has the ZHA logo
Okay great.
That’s helpful.
That is disabled.
If I try to delete HA says “Delete Home Assistant SkyConnect?”
Which makes me think that’s wrong because I don’t want to delete the hardware.
Well, that's how ZHA shows up, so that's correct
Okay great.
ZHA has the main name as the adapter... no idea why it does that, but it does
Theres a post on youtube which shows exactly which steps to take
That’s cool. I didn’t find it.
Lemme find it
The docs are all you need
Thanks.
Even better.
You say that but I did look at the docs.
But I’ll try again.
Might be, but other people loves to see the images what happens when they press on something as well
Great this is another issue I have
What the heck is a repository. I try to click the add repository to my HA and
It says “ Can't add https://github.com/zigbee2mqtt/hassio-zigbee2mqtt, already in the store”
So you can say the docs are all I need but clearly it doesn’t work right when on step 2 I’m stuck.
How would I know to just move on?
Ive send you the youtube walkthrough to your PM
You know because it says it's already there...
Okay great. I’m glad you think that. I do appreciate the free help but this isn’t cut and dry.
They were not there when I first read through the docs.
I got the same error.
Instead I found them on my own and installed them.
On step 5 it says configuration.
I cannot configure it when ZHA stays.
Earlier you told me to enable ZHA
It’s running.
Let me copy the logs to pastbin.
above he made sure zha was disabled right>?
Wowowow zha bad? 😮
People still use ZHA??? 😉
z2m takes control of the usb stick. unfortunately zha already has control of the usb stick so z2m cant take control of it and it is erroring out
Changing to Z2MQTT right away
For what that user is trying to do yes you can’t have both
Oh xD
It was disabled.
Sorry when you said this I thighs you meant ZHA. I am dyslexic and swapped the 2 and H
And the m and a
if my grandma had wheels she would've been a bycicle - you probably ❤️ haha jk
Sorry I’m not smart enough to figure this all out. I thought since green came out and I’m using all the same gear from the same dev this would be easy. I’m glad you all know these like the back of your hand but I am learning.
I understand that.
But I appreciate your clarifications.
ZHA is super, super, super easy
Oh, I know... I was making a joke (badly).
This is really helpful as well thank you.
Yeah where we fall down for the most part is Tuya
Z2m device support crushes us there (for now)
Hhhh i dont mind. I installed ZHA just today, because my coordinator arrived today but i am willing to try Zigbee2MQTT
ya but for those of us that refuse to use / suggest tuya this doesnt matter
I’ve deleted ZHA
Z2M is really for 2 use cases: You have some devices that aren't supported well in ZHA and/or you want to run it standalone. I'm not a huge fan of running Z2M in an addon for various reasons.
Agreed… but a lot of folks start with them or Xiaomi because the barrier to entry financially is much lower
But you guys have brought ZHA really far in terms of supporting Tuya devices too.
We’ll never shade Z2M it is a fantastic piece of software with an extremely impressive community that contributes device support
Then why does everyone say to use Z2M?
Z2M also got more programming capabilities right?
????
That just takes me here.
Ish... kinda. It's faster to get a device setup in Z2M, for the most part. But ZHA has custom quirks that can be added as well. Z2M has some features that ZHA doesn't have.
Z2M is really for 2 use cases: You have some devices that aren't supported well in ZHA and/or you want to run it standalone. I'm not a huge fan of running Z2M in an addon for various reasons.
Case in point: I run Z2M on a completely separate machine from HA. So, if HA goes down for whatever reason, I can still control all my Zigbee devices.
Running Z2M as an addon, you still have a reliance on HA being up and available.
But if the Z2M machine goes down for updating or whatever still not right questionmark
That may be possible at some point with us too
Sure, but that's just making sure you are doing proper system maintenance really with a good backup strategy.
Wait what?! Seriously???
lol
Quit tempting me back to ZHA... lol
Hhhhhh
quirks v2 is also super easy and will get easier right @tropic depot 😂
Once that stabilizes i think i may pick up the web socket server I worked on a couple years back
What in the logs am I looking for?
Sure… that may even evolve again soon
Not enough free time to do everything lol
not alone
they dont necessarily, most of us are power users and a lot of use have used z2m when there were more discernable benefits. lots of people use and like zha
I have nothing in the logs that correspond to me trying to start Z2M
the addon logs for z2m?
Also helpful thank you.
Yes. Are they in a different place than HA logs?
Yep
I see now
addons are docker containers. home assistant logs are home assistant core logs. each addon will have its own log
There is a selector in the logs screen in HA too
Top right
That you can use to switch the log you are. Looking at
damn i should've known that
www goes to the supervisor, but skips the router? 😦
Looks good tho
I see it thanks.
Im getting a headache of this tuya Zigbee stuff. Going to have some free time now
Here is the log https://pastebin.com/B4wsJcsB
I looked at the link mentioned and i don’t think it’s there.
What does your Z2M config look like?
I cannot configure anything since it won’t start
Where do I do basic config of Z2M?
See that link - all done in the add-on UI
Yes I’ve read that document.
Then... follow it and configure Z2M
Once you've done that you can start it
Or... just use ZHA instead
Stand by for all the questions it generates.
-
Where do I “see the dmesg output to find the device location:”?
-
Where do I create a folder if I’m running Z2M as an add on?
That's your magic
The getting started page is the big picture
For the add-on that other page is the step by step guide
You've apparently done up to step 4, so carry on from 5
This is Kafka esque. The next step is step 5 click configuration.
There is no button labeled configuration.
You're looking at the Z2M add-on?
Correct.
At the top
Thanks.
https://imgur.com/a/fw4si92 yours will be different cuz you have a usb stick not a tcp:// port
What is socat?
Damn... that was so well hidden... glad you could share that image
im a visual learner some others are too
Hey thanks for all your free support certainly worth the cost I paid for it.
he means well fwiw
Okay I trust that’s true.
Also, if you're looking for a button, that's not obviously a button
Yes exactly thank you for recognizing that.
Not that the docs said button
I do appreciate people taking the time.
I though I was using the mosquito broker add on
Where do I find the information configuration is asking me for?
The documentation tab in the add-on configuration tells you a fair amount
Thanks.
If you are not using the Mosquitto broker addon fill in your MQTT details (leave empty when using the Mosquitto broker addon).
but he still needs the mosquito addon installed first
this is part of what makes "home assistant just work" because by using haos there is a trust factor associated with mosquito addon and z2m addon since they are both run by the haos supervisor.
Okay thanks that’s helpful.
If you're interested the addon just grabs the data to connect to it via the api:
What does bind / unbind do?
I have some motion sensors that do not trigger and I was reading about the binding process, never had to do this before but since I've changed my coordinator, it seems some things like button actions/click or motion sensor occupancy shows N/A
I need to find better motion sensors
Binding is a direct connection between a sensor entity and an action entity. So the motion sensor would always turn on the light for example.
You probably don't want binding, but you may need to pair directly through particular routers
Are they the new ikea motion sensors?
Where on the pain scale would I end up migrating from the addon to running z2m in a separate VM? It can't possibly be as simple as creating a backup and using that in the new instance... right?
It's some "Iris" ones I had laying around. Maybe they've gone bad.
the ikea ones have alkaline battery issues. no idea about the iris ones
Hey all, does anyone use smart light switches instead of bulbs in UK?
I'm currently using Conbee II with ZHA
Any suggestions for a UK light switch?
Device: Light Switch - UK
Budget: £0 - £100
Features: Dimming (optional), Easy Install (if possible too)
Colour: White
Please @ me
It is pretty easy with a few config changes. Basically shutdown the addon, copy the config (ALL files) over to your new instance, change to fit the new environment and then start your new instance. I run Z2M in a separate docker container and can move it around super easy.
I don't have any recommendations, but something you'll want to know is if you have a neutral in the wall or not.
Aqara meet those criteria. They'll only do dimming if you have neutral from memory.
But you'll also want to spend some money replacing the Conbee most likely. It's very susceptible to interference. #zigbee-archived has more details in the pinned posts.
In a Z2M group I have 6 lights, that are all of the same type. I have 7 sliders in the dashboard, one for each lamp and one for group. Lamps nicely smooth when I change the slider, while when I slide group, lights change value instantly.
in the z2m confiuration.yaml I added transition: 0.5 for base settings, and I assigned to every light transition time to 1 second in the Z2M config
(if I turn on and turn off group, then it also works nicely....)
Question: I finally have 14 Hue recessed downlights setup in my house... Alll connected through Zigbee2MQTT, I want to make scenes with them, I know I can save their current state together into a scene but the problem is manually setting each one to the same thing to then create a scene, I can only connect to 10 i think with Bluetooth so using the hue app seems like it wont work. Is their an easier way to like set all the lights together or do i need to indivudally set them all to what i want then create the scene?
Nvm im dumb it was light groups
Anyone here have experience witht the zemismart tubular motors and z2m?
I'm considering buying the zm25r1 https://www.zemismart.com/products/zm25r1 and wondering if I need to buy the tuya hub in order to pair it?
Z2M says it's compatible, although no instructions on pairing etc
https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/ZM25R1.html
What's a good/reliable zigbee hub? I prob need two to cover my house.
Philips Hue has this stand alone switch. Perfect to tie to a group of lamps in a room. Is there a Zigbee switch that is similar?
device_options:
transition: 1
whenever I control single individual light, it works very well, but when I control group brightness, it has an immediate effect, not with transition. Turn on/Off the group, also works with nice transition.
No hub, and just one - Zigbee is a mesh after all
hey fellas anyone tried this one from ali? https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806757285763.html
Hi all,
Question, are there any benefits to connect the SLZB-06M to USB rather then over ethernet?
As I asked about before here I've got troubles with my mesh. I suspect that the coordinator can't handle more devices. In z2m, can you force devices to route through other devices? From what I've read you can, but it's no gurantee that they stay on that route - meaning it would be somewhat meaningless. Can you force it?
Correct, you can't - that's just how Zigbee works
Of course, if the coordinator can't handle that many directly connected devices then they simply won't be able to connect to the coordinator
Would they then take another route, if the direct route is "full"? Rather than just drop off
Depends on the device
Generally speaking though if that route is "full" they wouldn't have been able to connect via it anyway, so it's not a problem
Right
Or they would connect and then drop.
I have a bit of a whack-a-mole situation at the moment. One device drops off, and if I repair it, another device becomes unavailable
What coordinator do you have, and how many devices (count routers and end devices separately)?
That should be good for way more than double that
Maybe I can see actual routers somewhere
Yeah I also have a hard time beliving that is the issue
Viewing the map, about 20 of these devices go directly to the coordinator
That's fine
That's what I said yesterday... The only thing I can think of is the coordinator might be having issues itself. It's been flashed to 7.4.x, so I dunno on that one.
You're likely good for between 50 and 100 direct children
On the E? Is it the P that's weaker?
The P is good for 50
I've got a P and have about 100 devices in total, 20 to 30 are routers
Any other ideas what I could do for troubleshooting_
The usual stuff (see the pins for detail):
- USB extension cable?
- WiFi (inc the neighbours) clear of the Zigbee channel
- Fresh batteries
etc
Ok, that's in line with what I thought. The P can only do 20-30 routers. I had thought the E was slightly higher than that at 35-40, but I'm not finding anything for concrete stats on that..
People have 50+ routers on the both without problems
Huh... good to know.
It's all down to the environment and devices - some are so chatty that one breaks a mesh
Plus Osram's older devices just break meshes
Done them all. New extension cord even, and in various places
You've eliminated problem devices?
No Osram (other than the new Zigbee 3.0 stuff)?
No Sonoff or Tuya routers?
What is Osram? A brand? In that case, no to all of the above. I have a Frient power meter that might be the issue
Yes, a brand
Can you limit how often a device is allowed to report in z2m?
Yeah, in the Reporting tab of the device.
I'll give that a go!
Not all devices will honour that
Whats a decent min rep interval for a power meter?
Yeah it's for all of the mains, the kind that counts flashes on the main power meter (it's surprisingly accurate)
So this looks good then? https://i.imgur.com/7URnPxc.png
The power sensor in HA still seems to update every 4-5 seconds. Do I need a restart for it to take effect?
Try maybe changing that min change threshold too
Don't buy Zigbee power monitoring devices?
It all comes down to whether the device will accept the settings you want
It's my only option at the moment as I don't have wifi/lan coverage at the place of the electricity box
I also receive a lot of these in the z2m logs. What does indirect transaction expiry mean? 2024-07-18 13:58:18zh:ember:ezsp: Received network/route error ROUTE_ERROR_INDIRECT_TRANSACTION_EXPIRY for "35722".
Found this page, seems quite handy https://nerivec.github.io/z2m-ember-helper/#home
I'm just going to throw this out there, but maybe it's worth it to get a better coordinator? IIRC, you were going to look at either Tube's or SMLight's coordinator? (Can't remember off the top of my head and can't be assed to search lol)
Yeah probably. Need one thats not PoE though and got a bit stuck there. The skyconnect is cheap here...
Though my dongle (Sonoff Plus E) is on z2m's recommended list
Then go with the SL-ZB06. It can be USB or PoE. Tube has this: https://tubeszb.com/product/cc2652p2-based-zigbee-to-ethernet-usb-serial-coordinator-2023/ but I don't know if he's making them any longer.
Thanks, yeah he said he will make more. 🙂
The only reason I say this at all is because I have 12 power reporting plugs on my mesh (100+ devices) reporting every 2-4 seconds with no issues.
Don't know how reliable this page is, but the values I'm getting seems to be quite far from the ideal values. Maybe I need to venture into channel switching land again. https://i.imgur.com/VM7Ee0R.png
Honestly it’s going to be a few weeks at the least. Heading out of town this weekend back for a few days then out of town again until beginning of august
Yeah... not good at all. Have you done a channel scan of both your Zigbee and Wifi networks?
Yeah I downloaded some network scanning app when setting up the network, but its been a while. And I've gotten new neighbors since 😆
You need to look at both your WiFi channels AND your Zigbee channel.
Although, if you can change your AP(s) to something like 1,6 and then set Zigbee to something like 20, you might be ok. Really depends on what the WiFi scan shows.
Yeah I'll have a look
Any recommended tools for this from the top of your head?
As I'm reading through the pins... and preferably something thats not $500 a year 😄
For WiFi scanning? I use Wifiman (I have a Unifi network). But, you can download pretty much any of them that have decent ratings and get a scan done.
So... it's crowded 😦 https://i.imgur.com/qNxPYcX.jpeg
I'm using channel 15 for Zigbee atm
Which would be the most available spectrum, if I'm reading the zigbee/wifi comparision image in the pin correct
25 or 26 would probably be better
26 if all your devices support it, and you're not in North America
I was going to suggest trying channel 20, watching it for a day or two and if you're still having issues, try 25. I have never had good luck with 26, at least if you have Hue devices.
I could also get in between 8 and 9, that would be 20 for Zigbee right? FerNet is my network so I could change that.
I have my 3 APs set to channels 1 and 6. I rarely see anyone use channels 8 or 9, tbh.
Maybe I need to do some nightly missions to change their channels
Right, so - would 25 be preferable, or 20 if I move the FerNet network (see the graph)? (I do indeed have a lot of Hue lights so 26 might not be an option then)
As there seems to be a empty file between 8 and 9 then
Maybe I'll just move to a cabin in the woods
Yeah, try channel 25 and see how that works for a couple of days.
Also, keep in mind that channels are for 2.4ghz only. So, if most of your devices are on 5ghz, you could move your AP channel(s) to 1 or 6.
lol I feel your pain... I've done it a LOT over the years.
But, I've had this setup now for about 3(?)-ish years with almost zero issues and I keep adding devices.
That's a jinx if I've ever seen one
YUP... I have a wooden desk that I just knocked on. lol
Anytime! Hopefully you can get this resolved. Broken meshes hurt my heart. lol
Today I discovered that my connection with z2m stopped working with the dongle. The dongle is not showing up in the HA hardware list. I tried restarting and using different USB ports, but it simply doesn't appear.
Core 2024.7.2
Supervisor 2024.06.2
Operating System 12.4
Z2M: 1.39.0-1
z2m serial
port: /dev/ttyACM0
adapter: ezsp
I've been searching on Google for a long time and would appreciate any help.
What dongle?
yeah they're a total mesh...
ZBDongle-E - ZigBee
main chip: EFR32MG21
CH910F
https://www.chytrevypinace.cz/sonoff-zigbee-3-0-usb-dongle-plus
When i try lsusb etc in ha Console IT show nothing
But when i put it in PC IT Will load so i think dongle Is not broken
I see what you did there lol
I need some help, I don't know what is wrong here. I have some zigbee blinds. In the master bedroom there are 5 blinds and 3 shades. The coordinator is about 15 feet away and there is a repeater right outside the room. ALL 3 shades pair fine. 4 of the 5 blinds pair fine. no issues, great lqi, literally perfect. The 5th blind though will not pair no matter what. I have reset it completely, tried to repair multiple times, plugged it in to the wall to ensure its charged fully. I can get alexa to discover it with "alexa discover devices" so i know it is working (and yes i remove it from alexa after). I don't know why this 1 blind out of every single one in my house won't connect 😦
Are you pairing it generally, or directly to a repeater?
nearly every blind in that room connects directly to the coordinator
i have permit join (all) but it doesn't pair at all, it doesn't even appear and then fail or anything
Try pairing it to the repeater instead of the coordinator
No luck either
i really dont get this. it pairs and responds fine to alexa. my only thought now is somehow creating a switch and triggering a routine in alexa just for this one dang blind!
It's possibly faulty, or perhaps it's really getting stuck and binding into a default group somewhere instead
i would assume if it is binding into a default group it would exit pairing mode which i can observe from it flashing blue. when i try to pair it to z2m it simply times out after 2 minutes.
Yes, but this one could potentially be bad or a dud.
How long have you had them? Is it possible to contact the company for support? If 26 are working and 1 isn't, that sounds like it's a problem with the blind and not with Z2M.
Like I said though, it connects with no issues to Alexa and i can control it 'alexa open right blind to 50%'. afaik alexa uses zigbee as zigbee is the only radio on this blind
It may be the channel Alexa is using
I have reached out to them for support but who knows when they'll respond
It's possibly bad hardware in that it's not properly wired so not seeing all the channels
I would exchange that device for another.
Personally I like my IKEA blinds
Those look nice, but unfortunately they don't seem to have the style that I am looking for: https://www.graywindblinds.com/products/smart-shangrila-classic?variant=41917341761745
I like light filtering blinds that I can close for privacy or open for more light but still have privacy
They definitely have those too, I have one hanging in my kitchen window
Hm, maybe not currently? I just checked their website.
It depends on the availability per country and store: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/E1926.html
Ya those are not the same as what I have. My blinds have 2 inches of sheer fabric and 2 inches of thicker fabric. you can see out through the sheer fabric. you can roll them back the other direction and it will 'close' so it is all thicker fabric and you can no longer see out.
Ok, but you have dodgy hardware that needs replacing. Either way, that's not something we can help with here. That's a "get the vendor or manufacturer to replace it" problem.
Z2M keeps listening on TCP6 (IPv6), how do I get it to listen on IPv4?
Hello, all of a sudden all of my zigbee devices stopped working and I can control nothing, Z2M addon shows 90% usage. And when I checked the logs I found out it’s spamming my two presence sensors with payloads. What should I do?
I changed nothing, and the report is set on 3600.
What are your log levels set to in Z2M? Try lowering it
I don’t even know where to check, it should be the default value
And it’s not logging anything but those presence sensors
Ended up disabling ipv6 in /boot/cmdline.txt on my RPi and now Z2M is working/visual.
How do you actually buy those blinds? I got a cellular one in the master bedroom and LOVE IT! Want to get some in other parts of the house.
i might consider wifi blinds for my house. luckily this is my buddys house 😛
and ill probalby do hardwired
Ok, I'm new to all of the automation and trying to get my head wrapped around a lot of this stuff.
I need a Zigbee coordinator, which acts as the brain. If I get a USB Stick version (like the SkyConnect or ZigBee 3.0 ZBDongle-E) does it need to go into a computer, or does it just need power?
I have HA installed in my TrueNAS server, so I think something like the Yellow would just complicate things
It needs to be plugged into a computer that runs the zigbee2mqtt software and configured to talk to the dongle
So if I just plug it into the server running HA, that isn't enough, correct?
The SkyConnect says "Zero Setup, Automatically detected"
You can plug into server running HA and use add-ons etc.. I dont do this however, I have a separate "broker" where my Raspberry Pi has my Zwave and Zigbee dongles + their software running and Mosquitto broker (MQTT) which integrates with HA over the network. My HA runs in VM so its completely separate from the hardware.
Yeah, mine is running in a VM as well
So I have a couple of thirdreality zigbee temp/humidity sensors, and there's an odd thing that I'm seeing. Want to see if what my hypothesis makes sense.
Have the thirdreality sensor next to a govee BT sensor that we were using before, as a way of comparison in a grow tent. They both show the humidity is stable at around 90%, as expected. Govee is updating regularly, but the TR one reported temp 5 minutes ago and humidity 2 hours ago. Is it likely that they fine tuned the software to only report humidity changes when there's actually something to report? Likely to reduce network congestion?
Sigh, I think I'm realizing why I haven't done this previously. Feels like you need to be a software engineer, electrical engineer and mechanical engineer.
Feels very overwhelming to get started
It does help to be technical no doubt but you can learn along the way. But given there are servers, IPs, ports, dongles, configurations -- it's not for the faint of heart.
I like to think I am fairly tech savvy, but I haven't messed with Raspberry Pi before. Just didn't have a need. Give me a good guide and I am good to go, a lot of what I have seen are either way too vague and only gets me half there, or WAY too specific to the point it's completely NOT useful
The SkyConnect is plug and play with ZHA. If you want to use Z2M, it will need to be set up separately.
Z2M ?
Z2M = Zigbee2MQTT (the sofware), we get tired of typing the whole thing out.
Ok, well guess I should dive into Pi. I think I need one for a DakBoard project I want to do, so might as well get started.
Raspberry Pi 4 Model B/4GB good to run MQTT, Z2M, Zigbee and Zwave?
Should be fine, Im pretty sure mine is a Pi3 and runs fine wiht a zigbee stick. This server is a good resource, but it should be pretty simple once you get HA running on the Pi. Just plug in a USB zigbee stick and get the ZHA integration, things will pair to your HA instance from there.
I have HA running in a VM on my TrueNAS server.
If the HA instance is exposed to USB ports, you can just plug a zigbee stick into it
I dont bother with Z2M, I just use a Sonoff zigbee USB stick and ZHA within Home Assistant
Yup, thats the Sonoff stick I have (or close to it)
I run HA on a Pi and plug that in and my zigbee devices connect directly to HA
if youre running it on a NAS server, you can just plug the stick into there (assuming you dont have it in docker or something)
No, it's a VM image HomeAssistantOS or something like that
If its running in a VM, make sure your VM can see and access USB ports. If it can, you can just plug the stick into the server.
Yup. I can do a USB passthrough.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BYZP8NK2/
I need a cheap Temp/Humidity sensor for my server room. I don't need a display since I'll just use HA to view. Is this decent? Or is there a cheaper/easier option?
02p is a variation without a display
Thanks!
I received my 2nd Sonoff usb stick. Both sould be "E" versions.
Can i swap them afterward ? It's "plug and play" ? Thx
Just ordered mine from itead.cc Ordered 10 things, price is almost exactly 1/2 of what it would be on Amazon. Since Amazon has given up 2nd shipping, or even same week shipping (in my area anyway) my choices are 14-21 day shipping, or 10 day shipping for 2x as much.
Yeah, I'll wait another week or so.
I still need to figure out how to setup automations
Woow, my new dongle is "Zigbee (EZSP) 6.10.3.0 build 297" .... latest firmware is 7.3.1.0 !!!!
So a little behind.
I'm planning to have 2 HA ( 1 prod, 1 dev). this new dongle will be for my dev environment. And also as a backup....
Hmmm I swapped my old dongle with the new one with updated firmware... and it is looking for the old /dev/serial/by_id/ ...
i had to manualy change .storage/core.config_entries , restart HA, "apply new network setting" when HA is complaining about backup something... working!
Hi, I'm trying to connect my zigbee dongle to HA. HA detects well the dongle, but it's after to configure it, I click on "erase network parameters and create a new one" then it says "Loading the next step for ZHA" but never stop loading... it loads for infinite and my VM crashes, or a error message pops up and stop the loading... I flashed the firmware of my dongle to reset and be sure that it doesn't come from the dongle, but I still can't connect it to HA... I tried to erase virtualbox, my vm and download everything back but it still doesn't work. I can't even see the logs after trying to connect my dongle because my Vm crashes.... someone has an idea ?
It was running fine before ? I mean , u had a working zigbee ?
yes the dongle worked fine before but it's been a while
I connected it to temperature sensor and it was perfect
Does your VM start without the dongle ?
yes
which dongle/ Host OS/installation type ?
ZBDongle-P, HAOS, installation with a VM on virtualbox
what do you mean by "crashed" ? what's on the screen of your vm ? someting in /var/log/messages ? or journalctl -r
or in homeassistant.log
Ha say "connection lost, reconnecting" and when I go on my vm, I cannot type anything "not responding". On my VM, there is just Home assistant and the IP... I can try to send you the log
It's very hard to beleive that linux is crashing... not impossible but ...
it's not responding to ping ?
Since it crashes and I need to force him to quit, I don't think logs will show something. there you go ! https://imgur.com/a/KWBtyj6
My comptuer can't ping my VM for some reason
but I can acces Ha so it's strange
Iwould try to fix network issue first.
Alguien en español?
Good idea, but i dont really know how to do that... I have no other network to bridge
English please
Ok I can ping it now !
Did you see something strang in the logs ?
También podrías intentar https://foro.domoticaencasa.es/
i saw a lot of network issue in the log ... that's why i would fix this first.
ah
but i'm not sure there is a network problem because I could ping my vm since the start, I just tried to ping 172.20.10.5/28 and it didn't work of course haha then I did ping 172.20.10.5 and it worked
It's like the dongle kills my VM, it's really strange
here is the logs right after it crashes and I power it up again https://imgur.com/a/pBfO6ud (no supervisor since I didn't go on HA, i just powered up the vm)
That's the ouptut on the screen of your VM ???
yes with "journalctl -ru docker.service | less"
may be you could ask in #installation-archived , i'm not using VirtualBox and i'm not running HAOS... I think u screw up something
okay thanks anyway
So given conbee 2 has interference problems how does it compare to Conbee 3
Is it best to avoid conbee? 👀
The ConBee 3 may be ok
Not enough feedback to know
Personally ... buy Tube or SMLight
Arrrg! I just opened Zigbee2MQTT and all my devices have vanished. Bizarrely they are still present in the MQTT integration and all seem to be functioning but a completely blank list in Z2M.
Try doing a hard refresh (CTRL+F5 on Windows or CMD+CTRL+R on Mac).
Desparately hoping that I dont end up having to re-pair all of them
Try a hard refresh. If that doesn't work, try an incognito/private window.
Ctrl +F5 makes the Z2M page flicker but it goes back to an empty list
And an incognito window?
Same 😦
There's been a few reports of the add-on doing that
It is behabving as if everything is still ther, just not being listed in the devices list
The add-on log after a restart is somewhat complex, but it seems to name my devices. They are just not showing in the ui
This looks similar to what you are seeing: https://github.com/Koenkk/zigbee2mqtt/issues/23235#issuecomment-2212400167
Yes I think that is it
it looks like the only solution is to hose it and re-add and configure.
This is interesting: https://github.com/zigbee2mqtt/hassio-zigbee2mqtt/issues/594#issuecomment-2172698260
"ingress mode"?
Not yet. That one I just posted seems to have a workaround.
See if you can open the UI in a separate window/tab and go directly to the port specificed in the addon.
Sorry - I am having a senior moment- I am not with you
The addon doesnt give a web link that I can open in an new tab
Did you look at the link he posted?
Yes
When I switch to normal mode (open http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8099 in the new browser window) I see completed list of my devices and working Dashboard).
Rather than port 8123
Replace the x with your IP address of your HA instance.
What is ingress mode or normal mode?
and how do you switch between them?
I get Unable to establish a connection on port 8099
Make sure the add-on settings list port 8099 - they probably don't
Hmmm
Probably under Configuration... but I don't use add-ons so that's just a guess
The addon is set to use 8485 but that port is not actualy open
Try http://###.###.###.###:8485 (replace # with your IP address).
yes that is what I am doing
wireshark doesnt see anything for that port either
Thanks for the help though, I appreciate it
Hi guys, I have some lamps that are behind physical switches and are sometimes turned off by guests, kids ... is there a way I can force a check to turn lamps to an unavailable state faster? using zha
Just found the setting, any major downside to putting the check for powered devices to ... 60 seconds? 😄
5 mins is probably sane
60 seconds may be pushing it
I have mine set at 3 mins, and that's ok... doesn't generate too much overhead
I think I have about 20 lamps, how heavy would that check be on the system? I guess that gets logged to debug too?
I'll test with 5 minutes, ideally it would check the mesh on an error tho, is that an option?
Don't know
It'll take about six or seven minutes but this will cause every powered device on your mesh to be polled
There's no other way to tell, unfortunately. Devices can't tell you they've gone offline 😄
Do you have any installation beginner friendly guides for this?
I've got conbee and zha all set up but I've moved house recently so might as well restart it all again
Just got home from my little Crowdstrike excursion and my AP has literally died. I had it for 11 years 🫡 It must be a sign lol
Ooof... time to stop computer-ing for the day. lol
Do you have any installation beginner
does there exist a zigbee command or device that will do something for X seconds?
I much prefer not sending discreet on and off commands separately, I want 100% assurance that the "off" event will happen.
I like sometimes yes
Some support a timed off, but documentation on that is ... mostly non existent
is there a name for this? It sounds like a detail that wouldn't be printed on the box
yeah
"timed off" taht could be a start
Hey there - I grabbed a Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 plus-E dongle on prime, and it should be here later. It's my understanding that zigbee in the US is often 2.4ghz - is there a "preferred" channel, or just where ever 2.4ghz wifi isn't too bad? I have SSIDs on the common 1/6/11 channels, but eyeballing it channel 15/20/25/26 should be free from the adjacent wifi channels
Check the pinned image
Zigbee everywhere is 2.4 GHz, and the best channel is usually one of those, depending on what WiFi channels are in use around you
Ah cheers, thank you for that
I'm having an issue with my ZHA, I'm trying to use the zha.permit service, but it keeps giving me this error:
Failed to call service zha.permit. invalid install code for dictionary value @ data['install_code']. Got None
service: zha.permit
data:
duration: 60
source_ieee: 00:0a:bf:00:01:10:23:35
install_code: 1234-5678-1234-5678-AABB-CCDD-AABB-CCDD-EEFF
I don't see any updates pending for ZHA, but maybe I'm overlooking that somewhere.
Are you using an install code from Aqara, Bosch, Conscoit, or Embrighten?
Bosch
I'm confused why it's saying "Got None", as if it's not even getting the value on the service itself.
Can you post the code?
#zigbee-archived message this was it, just replaced the values with generic ones. Not sure if it's safe to share install codes or source ieee, but it's identical formatting.
The same error shows for both the example data above and when I add the values from my device.
Any chance I need to update HA? I'm on core 24.7.3.
I mean the threat model here is someone sitting outside your house so it's not exactly that interesting 😅
There's no single format for the codes, however, and it's entirely manufacturer specific
Some encode the IEEE address and a code from which the link key is derived
I'm thinking you might be referencing the QR codes? The source_iee and install_code are exactly the same on the device as in the example.
Some have the actual link key, unhashed
If you have a code format that hasn't been seen it needs to be implemented, which is why I ask
Like I said, the code format is identical to the example data from the service itself.
I'll post both so you can see
Example:
source_ieee: 00:0a:bf:00:01:10:23:35
install_code: 1234-5678-1234-5678-AABB-CCDD-AABB-CCDD-EEFF
My device:
source_ieee: 18:fc:26:00:00:05:76:70
install_code: 2CAB-3742-B7EE-236B-0990-06D8-23D8-BA3D-3E08
I'm tempted to just update my HA Core
But I wasn't planning on updating and dealing with potential migration right now. 😅
I lied, I'm on 23.10.1
So yeah ... almost a years worth of updates.
Now i works 😄
And the device itself got added pretty much instantly.
Alright, next issue then, it's connected to my home, but for some reason the configuration seems to have failed.
I can't share an image, but it's showing yellow crosses for a bunch of things (PowerConfiguration, Identify, Thermostat, UserInterface, etc).
Please use imgur or other image sharing web sites, and share the link here.
Image posting is blocked in most channels to discourage people from sharing text as images. Sharing text as images assumes that everybody sees the world as you do, which isn't the case. Some people are colour blind, or have visual impairment that means they can't make sense of an image of text.
Anyone flashed the Sonoff E-Dongle with v7.4.1 on a raspberry pI? Curious what tool you used. I can't seem to get cc2538-bsl working and pip install of the silabs flasher says no package available to install.

Coordinator is working, just having some other issues so I want to upgrade to ember (supported). I have Z2M shutdown when I try to flash.
I ended up finding some other tool that worked for my adapter: elelabs-zigbee-ezsp-utility
@waxen lance I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
Is there a guide somewhere on how to debug devices and a list of supported ones? So I can figure out what is supposed to work vs what I'm seeing.
I just had a power outage, everything is on UPS except for the remote adapter for z2m.
Now z2m does not want to start and I get the following message:
Port '8485' is already in use by something else on the host.
https://zigbee.blakadder.com has a fairly good list of devices. Or if you're using Zigbee2MQTT they also have a page: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/supported-devices/
Both of those can be useful for figuring out what a device should have.
Can I ask if the presence sensors from zigbee are. Any good? Looking to replace a static motion for presence and more if it's prossible?
So if I find my device as supported, what is my next step? It does connect, but none of the bindings work.
Try re-interviewing it or re-pairing it. Depending on the device, it might be worth pairing it directly to a particular router as some really try to pair to the coordinator which can cause problems if it's further away
not really presence sensors are good because they relay lots of info and that's not ideal for zigbee or zwave or other low powered mesh
So what suggestions would u give?
I tried using the reconfigure function. I can try an reset the device and then re-pair to see if that fixes things. I'm not sure the difference between router/coordinator. I have a single zigbee hub thingy, I think Tuya based.
The Tuya based hub could well be your problem.
Oh?
Tuya is not great.
It's more like 3 raccoons in a trench-coat pretending to be a solid system.
Been working for me for a few years so far. But I've had mostly just lights and simple switches.
My task is simply make something more efficient to trigger lights and people entering the home / walking up the hall etc.
How is it connected to HA? Is it just a USB dongle for it, or a hub via the Tuya integration?
jump to #hardware-archived
It's serial over ethernet as far as I remember, it's been a while since I set it up.
It's a modified Silvercrest gateway from Lidl. I recall reading it was Tuya based.
Oh, that is interesting, I've not heard of that.
Inside, it is the Tuya TYGWZ-01 white label gateway.
Are you using ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT?
ZHA
What's the device you're trying to pair with it?
I found this open issue related to the device: https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/issues/2476
Yeah, looking at the forums it looks like ZHA might have missing entities with it: https://community.home-assistant.io/t/bosch-thermostat-2-missing-entities-in-zha/739058
Hmm
Ooh, someone has a solution for you: https://community.home-assistant.io/t/bosch-thermostat-2/492845/15
If you are using the ZHA integration then a tip is to use ZHA-Toolkit to download and upgrade that Zigbee OTA firmware image on that specific device once you have successfully paired/joined it to ZHA
Ohh
From other posts in that thread, the problem may be down to your coordinator, but it's worth giving it a read to find out more.
If you do want/need to replace the coordinator, the pinned messages in this channel have some recommendations including an ethernet based one.
Yeah, I noticed someone wrote it couldn't pair with serial interface, but that did work for me at least.
I'd see that as a good sign
It might make sense to replace the coordinator, but I've just seen people have some odd issues from time to time, so I was kinda thinking that since mine has worked for this long, I better not rock the boat ...
True, but the Sonoff coordinators are pretty affordable and do "just work"
I'll keep that in mind, thank you.
I hope you manage to get the thermostat working though!
So I installed ZHA Toolkit to do the OTA firmware update. And because of this, had to restart HA. And after the restart it works. 🤦
Not sure why adding a zigbee device would require a restart, but I wont question it further ...
Well now you have ZHA toolkit so if you need it in the future, you can just use it! Glad to hear it's working now.
Do note that ZHA toolkit won't be supported with the next major HA release.
I also don't think anything related to OTA with ZHA Toolkit has worked in many months
Yeah, I gave it a brief try yesterday, but the different services just error out without a description. I was setting up logging to see if I could figure it out before just giving up for the night. 😅
Hey all, I got two new zigbee lights that don't behave like any others on my network in that their power on state doesn't turn the lights on no matter what I set that behavior to. Any advice for the power on (toggling manual switch off/on) to turn the light back on if it was off via HA?
LTA008
by Signify Netherlands B.V.
Firmware: 0x01001420
To confirm, even if you cut power for like a minute and then reconnect power, they stay off regardless of their startup option?
Yeah that's accurate. But if I unscrew and screw back in they turn on. Is my electrical bad perhaps? I'll try it in another lamp/circuit
I tried factory resetting
Same behavior on another circuit. It's a Philips white ambience 800
The other circuit has a Philips bulb that behaves as expected, turns on after manual toggling
So screwing the light out and putting it back has a different behavior than switching a switch that toggles power?
Can you try switching the switch off for like a minute?
During that time, make sure it doesn’t respond to commands from HA.
And check if, after a minute, turning on the switch also turns on the light.
Yes screwing out and in has a different behavior than the manual switch toggle. Keeping the manual switch off for a minute without any HA changes, the lights remain off when manually switched on
Shoot trying for longer than a couple minutes and it works now. Testing again
See what happens when you swap the bulb with another one that works well. Maybe your wiring has swapped hot and neutral for that socket?
Are there any good ZigBee dev boards
One of my Aqara buttons stopped working after I removed and paired it again. Only reason I did that was because I put a new plug in that room as a repeater and wanted to connect it specifically to that plug.
It stopped working so I removed it again and just paired it to the coordinator again but it's still not working. I've created new automations but the results are the same. Any idea what's going on?
Hi, can someone’s help me sort my zigbee setup. Our house has lots of thick stone walls and I thought buying a Sonoff ZBbridge would help but it doesn’t appear to expose the devices to HA. I also have Hue lightbulbs that I thought could mesh into the main network but they don’t seem to either. Do I need to change some settings or have I missed the point? Any tips on debugging welcomed
I'm affraid, there is no real way to "debug". Try your best to:
- put your coordinator ( could be a usb dongle or a bridge) at the most strategic place.
- have a least one zigbee powered device on each room ( 1 wall => minimum 1 zigbee to repeat the signal).
- Add more zigbee to have more alternate routes availables.
- I'm always adding zigbee with their closest router ( who knows , it cannot hurt ).
Bulbs does a descent job. Nothing to complain with hue bulbs.
Anyone using the zigbee NUE/3A Downlights?
Anyone know of a zigbee full spectrum dimmable growth light for plants?
👋 I have some Ikea Remotes that I don't want to update (I want to keep them in the current version as the newer version breaks group binding). However, the update pops up every day and I have to skip the update every day. Why is the skip not being remembered? (I use ZHA)
Disable the update entity?
Hmmmm... that will prevent updating? Interesting, I wouldn't thought about that. I will check as I already had to downgrade when I said yes to the update (changing the version in the OTA file header so an older version is seen as a newer one 😹) so I can do it again if needed. Thanks!
That will prevent HA telling you about the updates, yes
If you want to update, just re-enable it
I'll keep 2 of 3 disabled, the 3rd one is not bound I use it as a generic remote so I can test updates there, but as far as I've read Ikea just broke group binds in newer firmwares and not fixing it, so probably I won't be updating those two ever.
Hello, today my zigbee integration stopped working out of the blue. It gives me the following message: Failed setup, will retry: 'NV item does not exist: <OsalNvIds.CONCENTRATOR_ENABLE: 50>'. I'm using a SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus.
Could anyone help me out? Thank you
the P one
Unplug it for 30 seconds
Done, same error
Anyone has use cases for the ttgo display esp32 other than showing the temperature?
Hey folks. Starting in the morning yesterday my two IKEA Tradfri smart plugs abruptly stopped being available to my Zigbee network. They haven't been able to connect, even after I tried manually resetting them via the recessed reset button.
Since then, most of my assorted Zigbee bulbs and Centralite sensors have become unavailable, and I've been unable to repair them manually. I'm getting a MAC Channel 225 error. However, some other zigbee devices still work.
I'm using the ZHA configuration. I use a SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 stick that's connected into a Raspberry Pi 4 that uses a SSD for memory.
How can I start diagnosing and fixing this?
You mention an SSD and having "MAC channel access" failures. Is your Sonoff stick on a USB extension cable?
Yes
I would add another one and move your stick as far away from it as possible. The error specifically means you have too much RF interference.
Ah ok!
Many USB 3.0 devices, especially SSDs, emit a lot
I'll try that. That makes some things clear as I had tidied up my wires recently and the Sonoff stick is now closer to the Pi. Also, the SSD is a recent upgrade (last week).
I think that's an extremely plausible issue cause and solution, thanks. I'll try again tonight.
I also have a Zwave stick and a matter stick (3 total). Should they all just be as far away from each other as possible? I'm thinking about how to change their positions.
The Sonoff Zigbee stick used to be approximately 6 feet away and is now within 18 inches (needed to reorganize the shelf they were on)
It won't hurt. Z-Wave is on a different frequency so it shouldn't matter and theoretically your Thread stick should impact your network no more than any other Zigbee device in the same spot (it's the same low-level protocol).
Sounds good. Will check in tonight.
Did someone have the same problem? I would like to know if it's a hardware problem, so I can maybe buy another stick
It's not unheard of, unfortunately, for the Sonoff dongle to have NVRAM corruption issues
If you re-flash its firmware ZHA will auto-restore a backup when you next plug it in
Hello, I purchased these LED strips- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B62PRZTF?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 They are showing up in Home assistant but Im only getting an on/off. How do I controller the colors and brightness?
Did you click on the entity to get to the more info?
Got the same with an light bulb, you gotta click the entity via dev tools > states > search for the rgbw sensors > and then click on the light entity. Then it will show you the rgbw circle
I reflashed the firmware. Now HA automatically discovers the usb dongle, but when I try to configure it, an error message appears: "Failed to probe the usb device"
You shouldn't need to configure anything unless you deleted the ZHA integration, which would erase all of your entity customizations
How did you flash firmware and which one did you flash?
it say rgb_clor: null
I deleted the zha config when the dongle stopped working, thinking it was a config error.
I followed this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBAGWBWBATg
I would restore from a backup, it should start working automatically after that
I don't have a backup unfortunately
Are you running HA OS? Or some other installation method?
docker
Make sure your serial port is passed through correctly. If you're using a VM, make sure it supports USB hotplug as well, some don't.
HA is a privileged container, every device I plugin is automatically passed to the container
besides that, I did not make any change to the system when the issue showed up
When I plugged in the zigbee for the first time, HA auto discovered it and the config was a breeze
I would give a reboot a try. From ZHA's perspective it doesn't know your firmware has changed (nor is there any difference between the firmware that was installed and that is now installed)
If I host z2m separate from HA, can it still be controlled by Alexa etc?
Sure
That's great, but how does it work exactly? I thought Alexa/Google Home apps are linked to HA in their respected apps?
Z2M > HA > Alexa/Google.
Even if Z2M is hosted externally, the devices in HA are what get shared to Alexa/Google.
Oh, I should've said, if it's still controlable when HA is down
Ah, no.
Thanks for your help guys
Why zigbee lamps, from ikea for example, have to be unpaired from ikea HUB before they can be paired with HA yellow?
it just be like that
They technically don't (you can use the Ikea integration), but they can only be paired to one controller at a time.
You should be able to do the off/on routine to reset them.
recommended zigbee coordinator so I can start using aqara string lights?
Tube or SMLight
lol
hm, not as inexpensive as I'd hoped
https://a.co/d/73jCKpL (if you really need it by this weekend)
You'll spend way more on devices
I may just get cheap string lights for her for now and then wait to go down the rabbit hole for real
wife sent this - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C6J5LKMJ - and I just said I think we can do better
but $16 to have something functional by the weekend is probably best for right now
if my HA box has a spare USB port, would the sm light 07 device be a good, cheaper alternative or am I losing something else important by going with the 07 over the 06?
looks like z2mqtt recommends the cc2652 chip. the 07 model with that is th cc2652p7 and I'd lose zigbee to ethernet and zigbee to wifi. so I guess that's bad
That's a little outdated
Z2M has active support for the EFR chips as ember
ember is probably the future
oh, ok. I'm looking at the smlight site and I see the M model has the efr32
this place has both, about the same price:
as long as the cheap one from amazon tides the kid over while I wait for that and set it up
MGM21 is the "old" but still good model
MGM24 is the new higher RAM model, which has been reported stable at 300+ devices
unless I can sleep on those devices, I can't imagine having room for that many. wow
interestingly, smlight ranks the mgm24 as low on their list
cc2652p and mg21 tied for 1st, then cc2652p7, then mgm24, then cc2674p7
Yeah, but the ember dev has different experiences with the 24
So... one or both are correct 😄
so cost, lead time, etc being equal, as a relative noob wanting to be somewhat futureproofed, but prioritizing relative ease of setup/use, you'd recommend the mgm24?
Yes
That's what I'd buy if I was buying now
At least this month, until something newer and better comes out 😄
ok, looking for one of those on aliexpress now
Thanks, I think I’m going to need a repeater as there isn’t really a location it can go. It’s just off the hue doesn’t repeat
man, even pricier. but I guess it helps to be able to the hassle the guy when I can't figure it out
also out of stock
Does Zigbee have a Z-wave type of Network Wide Inclusion? Meaning, if I have a mains powered zigbee device, will new ones perform network inclusion?
Not really. You have to permit joining and allow the mesh to decide what to pair to or you can also only pair to a certain router.
hmm that seems like a problem because if you have a really far away device that you can't move.
Then you need to put a router closer to that device.
Or go with a protocol that supports long range like ZWave LR or LoRA.
Weird protocol. Wonder why it doesntn support something so logical like Zwave supports. It goes against mesh technology to make sure your router/coordinate it in the middle of your mesh 🙂
Meaning, it should get stronger and stronger as powered devices enter the network ala zwave.
You can pair devices via specific routers, or you can let them choose.
Some devices you don't want to let choose, as they'll grab whatever they think is best and then never change, so for those it's advisable to pick a sensible router on their behalf.
hmm so zigbee doesn't use mains powered devices as routers? You have to put more actual coordinators in the home?
Maybe I'll move away from zigbee, it's been quite problematic for me vs zwave which just works
@forest cobalt @raven jewel thank you for your responses!
Mains powered are almost always routers.
I say almost always, because there are exceptions, notable ones include light switches without neutral.
hmm ok that's what I was asking and now you confirmed. So its not truly Zwave-style NWI but rather, you are pairing say a motion sensor to a light switch instead of the coordinator.
You can do that.
if it chooses the wrong router or closer one. Now the question is, how do you know? Because right now all of my motion sensors seems to be trying to. be interviewed by my Sonoff but are failing.
You can see a network map.
Ok so my motion sensors are connecting "through" my plugged in wall switches (they are blue on the map)
Which works like a zwave setup essentially, at this point I dont care what is connected to what... that's the point of a mesh i.e. let it figure it out itself
I just want to pair and use the devices
Yes. Most of the time just let the network figure itself out.
Now I need to figure out why these 2 motion sensors I have are not pairing. I'm right next to the coordinator. They show up but then show null values for alot of things like battery, occupancy etc.. and dont seem to work as expected. Could be bad modules.
What brand of sensors are they? Sometimes it helps to pair them to the closest routing device rather than letting the mesh decide.
Yup. Those are OLD Zigbee 1.0 devices. They might be Zigbee1.2, but I doubt it.
No way to get them to work?
Sadly https://zigbee.blakadder.com/Iris_1117-S.html doesn't have any useful tidbits
Try pairing them to a router and see. But honestly, I’m not certain they’ll work or even stay connected.
I had them back in 2018/2019. They were good-ish at the time, but struggled to stay connected.
They are showing up in my UI, just with a bunch of null values. I think I've tried to pair things 2 devices 30x times now. Probably good time to move on I supppose 🙂
They will have null values until they report in. Battery can take up to 24 hours to report.
But also yes. Let the past die. There are MUCH better sensors now. 😊
Thank you to both of you!
Just ordered Aqara motion sensors... nice attachment on them too for the wall unlike these that have to sit somewhere.
Those are always my first choice.
