i think, with that relay, you need to put it in the switch box where the load wire is anyway (because it needs to be connected to its Lout terminal).
the wiring we discussed yesterday ought to work for a 3- or 4-swich setup — though with the major caveat that you need to end up with the commons at either end of the chain in the same switch box where the load wire is. so how feasible it is depends on precisely how and where things are wired in that case. there are other methods of wiring multi-way switching so, if that doesn't work out, you might be able to figure something out if you carefully reason the current path.
the difficulty will arise if the wiring relies on a neutral elsewhere to complete the circuit. that works with conventional multi-way switching because the switches carry the load current, but that's not the case when using that particular relay. first thing to do is to identify precisely what all those cables do, then you can figure out how you might be able to wire up the switches to the S1/S2 terminals of the relay.
I have, atm it's the following.
Travel wire from switch box 1 (downstairs Junction from last night) to switch box 2 (back of the room)
Three conductors, one black (Carries 120v AC from supply in switch box 1 and travel wire l1) one red (travel wire l2) and one white neutral tied to another white neutral for the load located at switch box 2.
Black load wire at switch box 2 that's connected to common on 3 way switch.
At switch box one it was travel wire black l1 and red traveler l2 and supply at l1
With another lead on common daisy chaining another switch but that's not important as I'll make that independent with another relay later (2 way switch)
Since the relay will be where the load is at switch box 2, our loads neutral can go to either Nin terminal
So we've got the neutral conductor of the travel wire free
One wire has to be dedicated to supply from switch box 1 so that leaves us with two travelers.. how do we handle common or perhaps one of the travelers?
There's ground but... that's messy..
What about this concept?
Could traveler l2 (red) be direct between switches l2 terminals, and split the l1 black to act as a common for the s1 terminal on the relay?
Leving the white "neutral" conductor as a supply?
Cec color conventions definitely being ignored

probably this is just me (and North America vs UK nomenclature), but i prefer to call it "earth" rather than "ground". to me, 'ground' implies the principal return current path (ie neutral), where 'earth' is supposed to be a fault current path.
anyway, i don't know the CEC or why this change to the code was made, but i would imagine that it has to do with minimising the risk of earth faults. recall that earth and neutral are joined at your main service entrance (at least, that's the way it works in the UK), so there will nearly always be continuity between earth and neutral somehow, but it's not always obvious which is being used in an earth or neutral fault condition, and RCDs will trip because the earth conductor doesn't pass through the RCD (which is the whole point of a GFCI).
a neutral fault can mean that the internal earth conductor is being used for return current, so it appears as though everything is working — right up until another earth fault brings every metal appliance (and sometimes even plumbing) up to mains potential! it's a similar problem with UK ring mains†: if either live or neutral should be broken somewhere around the ring, it will still appear to work, but at least one conductor will carry more current than the cable is rated for.
† ring mains are, i think, unique to the UK. romex starts at the breaker and hops to every socket on the circuit and then back to the breaker. there are therefore two current paths to any one socket, which means you can use 2.5mm² romex with a 32A breaker where a 2.5mm² spur must have a 25A breaker. so you can use less copper to support a given set of loads. it was a measure adopted after WW2 when copper was very expensive in the UK. this is also why standard UK BS1363 sockets are so chunky, are rated to 13A (~half spur ampacity) and why BS1363 plugs must be fused: the plug and flex can't safely carry 32A of fault current. 3kW kettles, woo!
.
anyway, if it was code-compliant, then it probably does not need (and probably should not be) modified. modifications must be to code, and if the rest of the installation is not code-compliant, then you have a problem. think building insurance. if you must cut them back for space, then i guess you have to. otherwise, leave them alone, if you can.
oh 😞. i opted for a sonoff CC2652P-based coördinator on the strength of koen's recommendation on the z2m website (and because it was readily buyable in the UK).
okay, my apologies. i rely on reply pings, and don't really understand why people dislike them.
Will do, my apologies
Because one is fine, but when you're in another channel a sea of them becomes bloody annoying
It sounds like the UK is more optimized in some ways when it comes to electrical
Also, one person pinging you is no big deal, but when you're getting a dozen, or more, that too becomes annoying... and as a mod here I can't really turn them off 😉
Ohh that's why you lectured me about that three times in a row 😅
Ahaha I'm teasing, I was a mod in a github projects Discord, had to deal with the same thing
So I get it, unfortunately Discord has it on by default, which makes it easy to forget to toggle
Thank goodness for Better Discord 😛
That with one of the no notify plugins and it defaults off
That helps alot with me understanding that further.
I might drop the ground slang because earth makes more sense in that regard.
Do you have any suggestions for my last question there?
I mostly use mobile so I'm stuck with the official client
Since I rarely use desktop I haven't bothered to experiment
will do so later, thanks.
so yes, i think so.
obviously, do not try to trace on an energised circuit!
sounds like you have it sorted, then. sorry, i can't spend much more time on this this morning! office day...
no, definitely not, do not go there
i'm afraid you might be out of luck with this particular relay, in this particular case. at least, nothing comes to mind rn. you might have to resort to implementation of multi-way switching via zigbee commands rather than using the physical switches via the R2's S1/S2 terminals.
for proper two-way switching, you need at least two traveller wires (see case to i linked yesterday), when the load and supply are in different places. however, you need a third conductor anyway in order to bring the common back to where the relay is. so i don't think that will work.
i think you said you found another cable for a socket in that same box? in theory — and i do not recommend it — you could use the neutral of that for the load's return current provided you are not using RCBOs (ie breakers + RCDs). excepting RCBOs, all neutrals are bonded together in the consumer unit (breaker board, whatever it's called in canada) and only the live is switched in the consumer unit.
this is definitely not code-compliant and again i do not recommend it, but it would probably work.
No there's only 3 conductors on the traveler wire. And two conductors on the load in that box
I was gonna use the "neutral for 120v"
It's probably best not to break code anyway..
fair enough. as i say, i rely on pings (especially as a mod) to keep track of what's what and where. though i see you use discord notifications for lots of other things, so i understand better now.
certainly moreso than north america! but ring mains have their problems, too (see loop fault described) and, i gather, many newbuilds are going back to spur-only distribution. i had a discussion with an electrician once about this, but i don't recall the reasoning he gave.
Interesting, I wonder why their moving away from it
our infrastructure is a bit wobbly, though. not enough investment, especially in generation, but the UK is hardly alone on that point. also, each dwelling is 'diversified' on the basis of 2.5kVA each (though each supply fuse is typically 60–100A, ie 13.8–23kVA), and street cabling & step-down transformers are sized accordingly. but add in a 7.2kW EV charger and/or a heat pump, and that 2.5kVA sustained average is blown out of the water.
it's a known problem which DNOs do acknowledge (if you talk to the right person), but nobody wants to talk about it much.
Yikes, that would drive me crazy
I appreciate the help you've provided so far, I've learned alot, I'll do some brainstorming and see what I can come up, worst case I might need to adapt and give that one idea of yours a shot with zigbee switches
Thank you, I'll keep you posted with my findings
Hey, why couldn't we use the ground doe for the the low voltage parallel 3way switch circuit?
The ground wire between junction one and two is direct and sheved the whole way, and it's not cut back, I would just have to push a insulation cover on it and use it either as a traveler or common for one of the switches?
The load and supply are grounded, so if I was needing to ground the 3 way switches for code I could do via the ground (earth) terminal on the switch them selves.. why can't we do this?
I'm 100% certain that the earth between points is in the romex and were only using it as a low voltage traveler or common.. Unless you feel this would bend the rules too far and or be dangerous.
I suppose those it being uncoverd inside the Romex would be the safty issue so probably not wise
I might be best to just use a wireless switch for this one
Well this is something ahaha
I don't know why but SFX what would you do with that 🤭
I'm still open to ideas but I don't see a way to safely do this without breaking code in a dangerous way and that's just not worth it.
I've got a couple of choices.
I could put the relay in the second junction with the load and either use the typical switch at the main junction and then use a wireless switch at the relay junction... or I could do it the other way, relay at the main junction with supply and dumb switch and bridge the connections.
For me the 2nd junction switch probably should be the wireless one since it's not cramed around two other switches, but it's also nice to have the relay there to save room in the other junction that's already gonna have two relayed jammed into it
So what wireless zigbee based switches that pull from AC would you recommend?

Is something like this programmable in home assistant?
Assuming I ignore the load and just tap onto power
@earnest aspen I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
Fixing my first message, Having some issues with changing colour temperatures on a zigbee light; hoping someone can give me a hand? I've migrated a Hue bulb from the hue integration to ZHA. I have complete control of the bulb from the UI - I can manipulate temperature, change the colour, etc. No issues there.
If I change either of the colour_temps (color_temp or color_temp_kelvin) and click "set state" the colour temp doesn't change at all. Any ideas why?
(in case it's not clear, I'm asking because an automation that I use to set the temperature has quit working, and I think it's because I can't seem to manually set the state of the bulb)
hello folks, HA user here. ZHA integration with 56 nodes using conbee II usb. Suddenly all my radiators are not responding
it is very frustrating as the central heat sometimes might stays on
am so upset - I have spent almost 72 hours and I can't figure out why this is happening
Can you upload diagnostics JSON for the ZHA integration?
currenly am living on a big 2 floor house total 400m2 - I have 5 routers at ground floor and another 5 (including coordinator) at 1st floor
there is no option to upload the file here
how do I upload it ? there is not such an option
Upload it elsewhere (e.g. https://dpaste.org/) and post a link
ok here it is
I don't see something in particular . nodes have accepted RSSI and there are no errors in logs.
However the TRV radiators, mostly are unresponsive
I’ve got trouble connecting a E1 Roller Shade Driver from Aqara. I’m using a Z2M with a ConBee 3. I have updated both Z2M and ConBee 3 to newest updates and still no luck. I’ve also tried all the methods listed in the Z2M FAQ about the device not being able to finish the interview. Does anyone have a solution for devices not being able to interview?
I’ve tried pressing buttons every 3 seconds to keep the device active.
I’ve tried charging it to full before connecting.
I’ve tried moving it away and closer to the coordinator.
I’ve tried to pair it through various smart plugs.
I’m using a usb extender to fix any possible interference.
The device joins with an address, and I’m unable to replace the battery..
one of the errors
[546439031360] Failed to send request: Failed to enqueue packet: CommandError('<CommandId.aps_data_request: 18>, status: <Status.BUSY: 2>')
have you seen the log ?
nothing special in your logs
did you try to repair one?
i remember that i had many many problems at the beginning with radiator valves too. problem was, that i uses another then the default radio channel. when i changed to default radio channel and repaired, it went smoothly
thanks
i was on channel 15 and switch to 25
my unifi acces point (total 3) are on 1 and 6
do you propose something different ?
shall I switch access point to channel 11 ?
you can try, but normally, there shouldnt be so much interference
first ist to try channel 15 at zigbee
as i said, i had many problems at another channel, i think it also was channel 25. i had random disconnects and so on, it was very annoying. switching bach to channel 15 did it
thank you very much!
two more questions please
- under zha/configure/network there is a download backup. What does it do ??
i think it saves your zha network config
- what does Migrate Radio do ?
- if I try a different coordinator, do I have to setup again everything ??? or I can restore the backup at step 1 ?
i switched to zigbee2mqtt a long time ago
i think you can try it, but normally the coordinator isnt the big problem
Hey Guys, ist it possible to change the state of a non available Light?
migrate radio is to change coordinator
as the house is big, am not sure if my repeaters are enough or not
including them, I know have 56 nodes
well, if you use 230 V powered devices, they normally act as repeaters
Problem is i am working (renovating) in the room and electricity is turned off, but Last state was 'on'..
I have one sonoff, blitzwolf bw-shp13 plugs and an ikea signal repeater (total 10 including coordinator)
If it is unavailable it cant reasive any commands
If you want them to be turnd off in HA you can use the developer tools
Nope, not possible. You can fake it though
I use that ikea tradfri 230 V outlets as repeaters. working like a charm. did changed the channel? 😄
Open your Home Assistant instance and show your state developer tools
Use States to set the new state manually
Yes thats what i ment
restart home assistant complely then
i did
got a msg "Network settings do not match most recent backup" but I kept new settings
@sour shadow @bold trench thats exactly what i was searching for, thank you 🙂
4 out of 8 for the first floor
the rest 4
is giving
547391008832] Failed to send request: Failed to deliver packet: <TXStatus.NWK_ROUTE_DISCOVERY_FAILED: 208>
do network search
pair again
ok
you can also change your wifi-channel as you suggested to 11. that should reduce interference if there is any
Hey guys i have some issus with some cheep temperatur sensors.
It woun't display any entitys. How can i debug this or perhabs request a quirks ?
do you usually set up all your APs on the same channel ?
Well, i use 4x ARUBA AP-515 at my house. It is suggested, to not use the same channels per AP. but that depends on how far are them away and their transmit power. i did it like this: 802.11N network channels 1, 5, 9, 13. For AC channels 36, 40, 44, 48.
am using 11 and 36 on 1st floor (2 Aps)
am using 1 and 36 (1 ap) on ground floor
for frequency band interference theyre channels are away enough. but i would change 1 ap from 36 to 48
Ah, i see, two APs at first floor? change 1 AP to channel 5 (N) and 40 (AC) second AP to 11 (N) and 44 (AC). ground floor is okay how it is
am located to Greece
do you have another frequency regulations?
1 6 11
ah yes, my bad. do 1 6 11
you can do ht 40 if you need the speed
thats why you use channels which are "away" from others
i switched Aps as per your suggestion
nice articles - however am using unifi AC-LR

There isn't a quirk for it yet: https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/issues/2694
very new HA user here, just set up my first instance. I've got a SONOFF 3.0 dongle (P) version set up with Zigbee2MQTT. Device is recognized, Z2M is started and there are no errors in the log. I've added Z2M to the sidebar and opened the UI.
As a test device, I've got a temp/humidity sensor sonoff snzb-02. This should go to pairing mode after holding the button for 5 seconds. I see three red light flashes on the device, but nothing happens on the devices page of the Z2M UI.
I would expect the device to pair. What troubleshooting paths are available?
Did you permit pairing in Z2M?
i read it was on by default, but i will check
can't share screenshots but i click the permit join (all) and it counts down from 4 minutes
this does not impact result when trying to pair again
Please use imgur or other image sharing web sites, and share the link here.
Image posting is blocked in most channels to discourage people from sharing text as images. Sharing text as images assumes that everybody sees the world as you do, which isn't the case. Some people are colour blind, or have visual impairment that means they can't make sense of an image of text.
Will there be one? If yes how can i install it
I'd suggest enabling debug logging, trying to pair close to the coordinator and making sure there's no interference. Use a extension cable, stay away from USB 3 and so on. See pins in this channel for more.
im sitting next to the normal wifi AP, without a usb extension cable and on USB 3.0. you might be on to something there :x
@ashen bluff you are a gentleman and a scholar 😄
hopefully i will be able to pay it forward later when i get some more time in with the solution, for now i can sleep well knowing i will be able to exactly determine the temperature and humidity of my living room over time
is anyone familiar with aqara e1 curtain driver?
no one ?
I'm not but people tend do not like questions like this: https://dontasktoask.com/
Just ask what you really want to know.
am sorry
didn't meant to
am having 2 of those - lumi.curtain.agl001
my problem is that they both report open , when they are closed
and closed when they are open
I've used the custom quirk
I have changes pending to clean up ZHA covers and handle inverting correctly
Should be in next months release
Z2M has a invert_cover option: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/ZNCLBL01LM.html#options
You didn't mention what you use.
both having the same firmware. 0x0000001b
both having the same quirk zhaquirks.xiaomi.aqara.driver_curtain_e1.DriverE1
one is not showing curtain mode under configuration
i can't figure it out
it's all changing soon
ofcourse, i deleted and re-paired. same situation.
even though is pulling the custom quirk, it doesn't show the curtain mode
inversion will have a switch configuration entity in HA
oh, do I have to delete the custom quirk for the new changes ? or I don't have to do anything ?
just be patient for now and wait for the beta at the end of the month
when that comes out try it and see if it fixes your issue(s)
As mentioned, it's changing soon, but please remove the custom quirk and try again.
There's already a quirk included with zha-quirks that should apply.
There were some issues with the previous E1 driver custom quirk that I tried to clean up with: https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/pull/2629
I don't actually have the device though, so it was a bit of trial and error. I think the current implementation should at least work without being inverted though.
You may need to remove and re-pair the device though (to clear the attribute cache) (bc of the inverted switch that is/was weirdly implemented)
I'll be modifying that very soon too
zhaquirks.xiaomi.aqara.driver_curtain_e1.DriverE1 isn't a custom quirk though.
how comes ? if it's not why it shows curtain mode ?
I have 2 of these... I have it almost 100% done feature wise... there is a separate PR to add config entities for it
still working out the calibration functions
it looks great
so, are you suggesting to install 2629 ?
An old custom quirk used to check the attribute to inverse the current state in HA, but multiple users mentioned that this was actually causing it to be the wrong way around. Z2M(?) and zha-quirks don't do this in the current version IIRC, but there seem to be firmware differences.
Old custom quirk: https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/pull/1648/files#diff-166efda935985eb20d2e9285895c245fa5e3b259210316c1af2a576dda4cc0edR48
Sorry, what exactly do you mean?
What HA version are you running first of all?
And what custom quirk did you try to install?
@mellow geode I had try 2629 ...never worked for me! actually I had the most problems with it
(if you look, I left you a msg on December 16)
You can't install that as a custom quirk, as it's not all in one file. It's included with ZHA in current HA versions.
What HA version are you running at the moment?
2024.1.3
And you've removed all custom quirks at the moment?
yes, i confirm that i have no custom quirks at the moment
And the "curtain/window covering mode" entity is only showing up for one of the devices? Does it work there and do anything?
I confirm with you. The curtain mode is only showing on one device.
If i change it, the device responds, makes a beep and when i try to open the curtain (it opens to the left) ....it goes to the right
Okay, that's the expected behavior?
to be honest, I think something is messed up
because as you can remember I've also mentioned the wrong state. (december 16)
so why the state is not corrected when I switch mode?
I am not very familiar with zigbee but I can make you as many tests as you like and share the logs with you
also, what about error 900 ?
after 6 years, is the first time (this month) is coming up
[0xBF20:1:0x0201]: 'async_configure' stage failed: 900
Try the next HA Core beta when it's out at the end of the month. It might have some fixes for this. ZHA cover support is currently being re-worked.
As I don't have the device, I can only say that multiple people (in both GitHub issues and in my DMs) confirmed that the currently included quirk works for them and their state is correct.
In earlier PRs, the state was inverted depending on the curtain mode, but to me, it was reported that this was causing wrong behavior.
and I’m using these to fix covers so they will be well supported when I’m done
which quirk do you mean ??
ZHA includes quirks by default. It seems like the current one isn't working correctly for you. It's the one from the linked PR.
Again, cover support is currently being reworked and the Aqara E1 covers should work as expected when it's finished.
understand - thank you very much for your time
So I'm chasing down a fun experience with zigbee2mqtt and the entity is showing me "Hidden by Integration" but I really don't know why. Any idea's on what to do here?
Hmmm so I just messed around and told z2m to rename the devices to a new name and then back all while updating the home assistant entity which worked.
is puzzled
@cloud swallow
I have an idea, so you know typically if I was to use one 2way switch with the relay I would do l1 and common to s1 and s2 on the relay, this would allow a single switch to act as a trigger to toggle the state.
Now what if we recreated this by not doing 3 way and just doing two 2 way switches.
L1 to S1 and Common to S2 and same pattern with switch 2.
There would be enough conductors.
The only issue is that the Sonoff only has two low voltage terminals, right? Couldn't we just use two 3 way bridges, (lever nuts, wageos, or push ins) one for s1 and another for s2.
Wouldn't the Sonoff relay just take it as the same switch being toggled?
If you feel that's possible and safe, is there a more optimized method?
Guys any temperature sensor that you can pool or sending changes per 0,2°C or better 0,1 please? 🙂
Reposted from general
Wow, not good. I purchased Aqara Temperature and Humidity Sensor (also has pressure). And this thing eats batteries, It's currently using 10%/day. Is there anyway to change the update intervals in HASS?
That's 100% handled by the sensor
Your problem is a weak signal (you did pick a nearby router to pair it through?) or interference
Yeah you got something weird going there, I have 4 of those sensors with the defaults in ZHA and the batteries are still over 50% after a year
Even my one in the attic, where it's been below -5 most of the week, has had no battery issues like that
The battery percentage is unreliable. Wait for it to hit ~60% and it'll stabilize to some value and probably never change in the two year lifespan of the sensor.
Anyone tried these as a thermostat (alongside a thermometer obviously)
https://a.aliexpress.com/_mscY3VE
Seems to accept 5-32vac/vdc
So it could be powered off C wire
Okay, it's at 66% we'll see what happnes next 🙂
Wow, looks like I had it in a bad spot. I'm moved it closer to a plug (router)
well, that only helps if you pair it through that router
if you just smacked the pair button then nobody knows what that device picked
Good point,
This is a well know, and well documented, quirk with the original Aqara devices
Weird thing is it was about 10ft from the router
Now it's working sitting next to the router (2ft)
I saw my aquara temp sensor switch routers exactly once for a day
So they are able to do it. But they likely decide not to
Still don't know which router it's paired with
You should be able to see that on the visualizer
At least zha has such, no idea about z2m
Where's the visualizer?
Most bizzare, it's not linked to anything in the network (???)
And it's now 3ft from the main ZigBee controller (and I re-paired it)
The visualization isn't real-time, nor is it 100% accurate. If a device reports its neighbors, it'll be shown. Not all do.
i have an issue with phoscon - i can control the lights in phoscon just fine, but it does not work in home assistant - but only for those lights that are part of a group in phoscon. the bulbs that are individually added to phoscon work in homeassistant just fine, those bulbs that are in a group can only be controlled via phoscon and not through homeassistant - does anyone have an idea what i could do to fix this?
additional information: I have a dresden elektronik conbee 2 stick and use phoscon and deconz. i do not use zigbee2mqtt - the bulbs i use are from müller lights and are "tint" lights

oooooffff, I don't know what was it -> reboots didn't help, but replugging the cable helped o.O it's flashing now o.O
Hi All, I have a weird thing happening. Last night the lights in the lounge and kitchen turned off at 9:45pm, triggered by a zigbee wall button switching off… yet no one switched them off. I grabbed any related log files in the HA log here https://hastebin.com/share/ikahuharuc.css - Just wondering if anyone had any smart ideas about what might be happening here? Screenshot of one of the switches: https://imgur.com/a/hx3AkwJ
Is there any UI in or for ZHA to configure device settings? I‘ve heard that Z2M has a UI for instance to configure thresholds for motion sensors. The only thing I found so far is manually fiddling around with clusters/attributes in „manage zigbee device“.
That depends on the device and what features it supports
So in general there are devices that have a similar experience in ZHA? I have a ZBMINIL2 by Sonoff which exposes a "start-up behaviour" select - is that how it looks like for "supported" devices?
Yes, common device features are exposed as configuration entities
Update here, at the same time it looks like all zigbee entities became unavailable, then back on again.
Thanks! Do I see it correctly, this is being maintained within the zha integrations sourcecode? So in order to extend this I'd need add a customized zha-integration to custom_components, right? Or is there a better/easier way?
What are you trying to do? A lot of functionality is exposed for devices that follow standards. If yours does not, there needs to be a way to map ZigBee functionality to HA entities.
I have a device i only can turn off and not on. Is it a config in the js file for zigbee2mqtt to tell it its only a tun off switch ?
I assume my devices does not follow any standard 😂 It's a mmwave sensor, and from what I see in the attributes, it should have the ability to configure the sensitivity. When you say "there needs to be a way to map ZigBee functionality to HA entities", are you referring to quirks instead of changing the ZHA code?
Quirks are required to map out ZigBee functionality, name attributes, commands, etc. If your device is a variant of a known one (i.e. Tuya), you may not need to do much, since the quirk-specific controls are already mapped within ZHA to entities. If it's a completely new device, you'll need both.
It's a tuya device
It's called TS0601, to be precise - but from what I understand, there are multiple versions of that one that, of course, do not have the same zigbee implementation 🙈
I realize there are apparently already multiple people working on that device and there are some open PRs for adjusted quirks, so probably I just need to wait. But if I understand it correctly, if I'd want to fiddle around with it, I should dig into "building a quirk" on https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers, right?
this worked for me (for Sonoff Dongle-P + Ketotek Thermostat from Amazon TS0601 by _TZE200_6rdj8dzm + ZHA): https://github.com/jacekk015/zha_quirks
am running HA from 2016 - never before had so many problems with zigbee
hope that the beta coming out end of month will solve them
is anyone else facing unavailable problems with the last version ?
noone ?
was thinking to downgrade version of HA as my last option
have tried everything
do you think it's a good ideA?
I've been having Zigbee issues since around december. LQI would be unavailable "randomly" for devices, my Ketotek thermostat (quirked) stopped being handled by ZHA entirely.
Tried (re)enable ZHA, tried to restore Proxmox's backup from the beginning of december -> didn't work. Today I've finally managed to upgrade my dongle's firmware -> it works ok now, so far so good.
what dongle? am currently on conbee II
I have try everything
Sonoff Dongle–P
try to physically change the usb port u connect the dongle 😄 this helped in my case xd
well, as I said, I'm using ZHA as well.
maybe the problem was with Dongle–E, not P
Hello, i have been trying to get my IKEA lights integrated into Home Assistant (Using ZHA), but i have run into a problem. i have exclusively IKEA Color and Color temperature lights. But some of them i can only set the color in home assistant. I cannot figure out why.
Ex:
- TRADFRI bulb E27 CWS opal 600lm - doesn't allow me to change color temperature only color
- TRADFRI bulb E27 CWS 806lm - does allow me to change both color and color temperature.
I have been looking into the zigpy device_handler quirks, but it seems that there are no quirks for these lights, so i assume that they use the generic zigby light setup.
On the IKEA hub i was able to change both color and color temperature for all lights.
Do you have any suggestions to what might be wrong with my setup?
By all means tell me if you are missing some information i will gladly try to find more info!
here is my mess
https://pasteboard.co/RIyp9Ehlqe06.png
what it drives me mad is that there are no errors at logs
nodes seems that they are on (e.g. my TRV)
but they are not
no erros - no logs
i'm a noob, have no idea – u asked if anyone had problems with Zigbee recently -> i did, that's it 😉 what's the solution, idk. for now it looks like upgrading firmware on my dongle helped. or maybe just reattaching the dongle to the usb port. not sure what really helped, i'm just glad that after a month of problems and a week entirely without the zigbee network, it finally works 😛
does anyone know if i remove the dongle from my raspberry is this going to cause problems to my ZHA setup ?
i dont think it will cause problems. just to be sure, you could power it off first, unplug the dongle, power on, wait to boot up entirely, power it off again, attach the dongle back, power it on.
but i just hot-(un)plugged and everything was ok in my case.
power on without the usb stick, doesn't seem right ...
dang they fixed the price of those sendled lights, back up to $40 for 2 + hub
least i got 2 sets at the $11 deal
no very chatty tonight - I guess everybody is writing automations 🙂
they both work w/ ZHA
Great I've got a sensor who won't gossip about it's neighbors
Odd think is the log says it's unknown 3hrs ago (last entry), the graphs report updates in the last few minutes
BTW, thanks, the zigbee actually works quite well in my home (34 devices, 1 controller)
I need switch recommendations 🤭
I'm looking for a 3 gang (3 button) wall junction mounted switch that uses neutral and common 120v ac for supply.
There will be NO pyshcial load
I just want something that can toggle 3 zigbee relays with loads across the room
So it has to be something I can setup automations for in HA, for example switch 1 press thus toggle relay 1 state.
Not direct on and off since the state of the relay could be either.
Just toggle state of relay when button is pressed.
Preferably 3 buttons or four buttons
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated 😊
ZHA is unreliable since december for me, too. Would have to restart the integration many times each day. Automations are pure luck atm.
It scares me when ya all say things like that and mines currently working fine. 😬
I hope the stability doesn't stop 😭
Are you using Multiprotocol?
Does anyone by chance use the Aqara temperature/moisture/pressure sensor? I have three of those. Two work fine while the third only works for a few hours after I pair it and then gives up.
It's not the battery, not the environment and I think it's the physically closest to a router/coordinator compared to the other two.
By the way, does it make any difference if I pair from the coordinator or from a router close by?
The coordinator does the pairing, though the sensor tends to remember and prefer the first router it was connected to.
Ah okay, so you basically just say "do the pairing, but use the radio link trough the router"?
Yes, and always pair Aqara end devices through a nearby router
The original ones (not E1/T1/P1) pick the first thing they hear, even if the signal is terrible, and then they stick
Yeah, I did that (hoping that it would improve the situation). What I don't get is: why would it work for a few hours after pairing and then suddenly fail. That's what puzzles me...
Nah, like I said, the battery was one of the first things I changed. And also, it worked for weeks before becoming unstable. Maybe there's *new *intereference though.
Should the Aqara sensors come up again after changing the battery? I have the impression that I need to re-pair them every time once they got "lost"
Yes, they should and all of mine do
Hm, have to keep an eye on that
Hello guys, last week I buy ZBdongle-E 3.0. Have TrueNAS Server, on this server a VM of HAOS. When I plug dongle to server, HA see it, but every time when I configure a Zigbee2MQTT have this error :

What is "Duplicate TSN"?
Yes, it works for some time after restarting the ZHA integration.
Navigate to the ZHA configuration page. What does "Serial port" show? As for the error, what version of HA Core are you running?
hello folks
I am reading that to speed up the mesh creation you must turn off HA for 20 minutes. Is this correct?
has anyone know about this please ?
nobody please ?
I have one, I needed to replace the default battery. So far it's behaving. I also moved it closer to the coordinator (Sonof ZigBee 3 stick)
Mine's unfortunately not behaving.
BTW, the Aqua sensor seems to come and go (it's unknown, it updates)
I paired mine really close to the coordinator, also doesn't report on neighbors in the map
It's not behaving okay for the second day
Let's see if it can go 3
thnx for your help, @austere patio !
Serial port:
/dev/serial/by-id/usb-Nabu_Casa_SkyConnect_v1.0_644fbc9a80b7ed1193b3a15938a92db5-if00-port0
Latest Core Version (2024.1.3)
Always pair in place. Always pair Aqara through one specific router that's nearby.
It didn't like the router I tried first, the Aqara sensor went off line after about an hour and wasn't never seen again
Fresh batteries help a lot of the time, and checking for other 2.4 GHz noise (WiFi etc)
Brand new
Good, energizer batteries
Buying cheap batteries usually means less amp hrs
Well noise, I suspect a lot
I think I ahve 60 APs in my neighborhood
Check the channels then
I'll need to look into that, I have some 34 devices now (I think the Sonoff 3 supports up to 64, others only 32)
Routers extend that support to ... lots and lots
I've got quite a few routers in the network so that's good
Hi there! recently switched from a conbee2 to conbee3 on ai pi4b+ with ZHA... repaired everything "for a clean" install,... except for one ikea bulb everything is working, BUT every hour or so my entities become unavailable....
so i started logging, http://pastie.org/p/3jBgVIKmexrSgeryMw7ms2 --> 2024-01-19 094942 is the exact point, when everything went unavailable to be available right after. my problem is... i have no idea 😦
Hey guys i got a new mmWave Sensor from Aliexpress. Unfortuatly it detects motion when there is no motion and I'm in a far other room. Then there is no calibration settings and i cant set the reset time for this sensor. Can someone help?

What's the make and model?
On the device page for your coordinator, what firmware version does it show?
last one, afaik 0x264f0900
I'm instaling home assistant with z2m as containers.
Do I need to expose the zigbee controller to HA too?
As I've understood it HA will communicate with the devices through mqtt, so is it really necessary to expose the usb device to HA too?
As was already said
I don’t remember if I’ve asked this here already, but I don’t think I got an answer yet either way: this is a bit of a crossover with #hardware-archived, these bseed zigbee units are clearly intended for euro style in-wall boxes. Does anyone happen to know a good quality surface mount on-wall box solution that really fits nicely? Or even one that is bad quality, even.
Thanks! This is a bug in the radio driver. I would downgrade to the previous firmware version or wait until the next Core release (likely the Beta) for it to be fixed.
@sour shadow the answer goes to me ?
I have many problems with aqara devices . any advice please ?
@puddy on #107200 you saying "Is your coordinator on a USB extension cable and away from 2.4GHz interference sources such as any USB 3.0 port or device, SSD, etc.?"
how far is good ?
How close is it to either?
coordinator <> aps = 5-7 meters
What about SSDs and USB 3.0 ports?
am not using anything to usb 3.0 ports
I have ssd coonected to the raspberry
but the coordinator is connected with 2 meters extension cable
See the pinned messages - the top one has lots of hints for you
The other pins are also good to read
@sour shadow thank you very much!
After I read this https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/107200, I switched back to 2023.12.3 and nearly all my problems solved!!!!
Hey @austere patio , you there?
What coordinator are you using? (and do you know if you're also using "Multi Protocol"?)
Anyone recently install a SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus-E on a fresh install Rpi with ZHA? I had an issue before where it, as a coordinator, would show up as unknown manuf and model, and I was testing different firmware, and different dongle Plus-E's, yet it always shows up as unknown, even though the device itself does have the Silicon Labs / EZ coding on it. Seems to be a bug with ZHA and this device.
I think Sonoff just didn't set that information in their firmware. If everything works, you can safely ignore that for the coordinator.
Previously, ZHA didn't try to read it from the stick, but instead showed some basic information depending on the "coordinator protocol" used.
If you use a SkyConnect for example, you should see the proper information, but again, doesn't really matter.
hello
Thanks, yeah Puddly said the same, and it just let me curious considering when all the tutorials on YouTube showed the installation properly showing the device information. I thought all the devices just didn't include the information, however, upon reinstallation of ZHA, when I added the device, ZHA detected two instances: one zigbee controller with unknown/unknown, and the Silicon Labs EZSP. So I had two devices listed, but one was read with the correct information, and the coordinator showed unknown. So due to that, I just wanted to try and figure out if it was a random setting or other issue or mistake on my end.
Yeah SkyConnect shows everything perfectly, every time.
If ZHA detected two coordinators, you might have stale information in your zigbee.db (in your /config directory). It's not deleted when you delete the ZHA integration.
You should be able to delete one of the coordinator devices directly from HA if you still have multiple.
I was going to switch to SkyConnect, but I do not have any zigbee issues with Sonoff, and I wasn't sure what to expect using the SkyConnect, so I never did a migration or tested it too indepth,.
Is there any maintained or voted on list of best/most reliable coordinators and routers?
Yeah I'll take a look. Even when it first detects when installing ZHA, it shows the proper names and paths, but just for whatever reason, the coordinator always shows unknown.. strange.
Thanks
Do you mean that the proper name is shown during the config flow / initial setup?
just jumping in to say that I have a Tuya mmWave and it constantly spams the network with or without the quirk. The quirk just
Yeah, like if I let it automatically setup by selecting /dev/ttyACM0/ the path after has all the names correctly, or if I click manual, and I select the EZSP name, like everything looks good and correct, until it asks me to name the room the coordinator is in, and it shows unknown for everything. Except, when the duplicate occurs, then the device shows as Silicon Labs EZSP properly, but not as a coordinator, as its own device.
Innr are good routers, Sonoff typically not, Osram breaks meshes...
Totally on the same page, if it works, it works, but it's just something I wish I could have figured out lol. Why its happening.
sadly I have many Osram devices
they are poop
I wonder if I could get them to pair to their own router to semi-segregate them from the network
I think they are all stuck on Zigbee 1.2
Yeet them, you'll be grateful later
Is this in response to the GitHub issue comment?
yeah
If you can, record a debug log with the version of HA that works. The devices are sending nonstop traffic, like 40 packets per second at some point, with disable_default_response=0, meaning that they ask the coordinator to send back an acknowledgement to every single one.
without the quirk it generates a constant stream of unrecognized data that shows as an error or warning in the logs. I think the quirk just allows the data to be interpreted and no show so many errors/warnings
Right. But if it works in an older version and not in a newer one, something changed somewhere. And until we figure out what that something is, it'll stay broken in the next release 😄
I'm on 2024.1.3 and it's not too bad. My main issue is that sometimes my crappy ecobee lights drop off the network and then when they reconnect they flash on max brighness, usually at 3am in the bedroom, which is not appreciated
I'm going to try and roll back to 12.3 or 12.2 (I just upgraded from like 2023.6.x or something so I'm still fixing a few things)
@austere patio I put some logs on the github issue
that didn't work
I wish there was also a voted on or curated list of brands and devices. Osram is definitely poison for the network. The nifty Tuya mmWave sensor seems to also be destructive. I have some old CentraLite motion/temperature PIR sensors that are the most reliable thing in HA, bar none.
I'm still looking for the perfect motion sensor. It seems like the best is to just DIY an ESP32 and plug it into the wall.
Trouble is, who manages that list?
Jeff Bezos, obv
Many people have started one, and then discovered just how damn hard it is to manage it, and given up
I'm hoping HA has yet to be infiltrated by the shill armies that make Amazon reviews useless
I think some sort of voting page in the zigbee section of the forums might be helpful, but there are so many unaccounted for variables that can affect whether or not a device works well for a person.
Maybe you have to have a certain number of devices or have them working for at least 2 months to submit the vote, on the honor system.
Here's the white lines of all my Osram devices: https://imgur.com/a/5P0XRhN
better visualization where I dragged all of my Osram devices away from the others: https://imgur.com/a/D2DBipi
getting som many [0x0EB5:1:0xe001] Unknown cluster command 225 b"\x02|\xc7=-'\x00\x00\x00'\x00\x00\x00\x00"
Does anyone knows whast is zigbee node with nwk 0x3910
?
Go to the ZHA Visualization and enter 0x0EB5 in the search field. The one node that matches should (barely) be highlighted.
I guess it's a Tuya device/plug or something.
Logging for this is reduced on HA Core 2024.1.4 and newer. You can safely ignore those messages.
do you name your devices in z2m or ha? there's also the option "Update Home Assistant entity ID", do you have any tips here?
both should be somewhat independent from each other
z2m is more of a standalone solution
for now I renamed my devies in z2m (friendly name) to e.g. light_hallway-door with the "update ha entity id" option
I was just asking because I only have a few devices now and I'm creating my first automations, but if you have any tips for good conventions to use from the beginning I'd appreciate it 🙂
personally i would i like names that uniquely identify the device and then apply an alias on the ha side aswell as asign a room to identify them more human fashionable
but this comes down to preference
you mean like physically label the bulbs with numbers and match those in z2m? (e.g. ikea_light_1) etc?
partially, for example my aquara h&t sensor got the entity_id lumi_weather_<ieee_serial> or some brand tuya smart plug ts011f_<ieee_serial> and then in homeassistant i just set a nicer name as alias like Bathroom Temperature for the device entities
that way i could move around the plug and repurpose it without loosing track of previous data
good idea
I would hope this is zigbee
But any alternative suggestions?
I'm looking for a zigbee 3 button switch with neutral that'll fit in a single junction
Just wanna program automations in HA for it, no pyshcial loads.
I'm basically looking for a scene switch I guess
Maybe something without tuya in the name
But... avoiding them is nearly impossible let's be honest
Can someone help me with this? 😃
Any chance of giving ZHA some love in the near future? Had to switch to ZHA from zigbee2mqtt and gotta say its very limeted compared. But it works really well so some added funtionallity would probably bring alot of ppl over 🙂
In what ways did you find it limited? OTA updates will come to the UI soon for example
Thats good 🙂 Just seems less intuetive etc... Trying to remove a device is not easy, debugging a device is not easy..etc etc
Just seems a lot of integartions are getting improvements but not zha...
feels old and outdatetd
dont mean to step on anyoens toes...i switched becous it has the most compatability for devices 😄
hacks ZHA Network Card is a great addition that can be helpfull
For what he’s asking for — just a scene switch that links into HA, without directly zigbee binding to bulbs and things like that — wouldn’t the Tuya ones be perfectly adequate?
I suppose, to be honest when it's zigbee devices I just go with tuya anyway.. they work offline.. 🤷 I've just been told to stay away from the brand but, honestly seems to be only a issue when it's wifi/cloud based in my opinion.
Don't zigbee iot devices usually share similar firmware?
I’ve noticed that my Tuya switches/buttons for the most part aren’t good about offering binding endpoints, so I can only use them to run automations.
Even zigbee ones?
It's a mixed batch for tuya
Some chips work better or worse then others, some features get cut out or are not available, there may always be the option for it being a unsuitable composition of components
I must say that after 20 hours to version 2023.12.3 I've seen significant improvement to my zigbee network
Some do, some don’t. It’s a grab bag.
And my 4button-scene-selector in the front room has been having issues, that went away temporarily when rebooting the HA machine, but this time I power cycled the button itself and that also seems to have helped. So maybe that will turn out to be the issue. Let’s hope it doesn’t get into that state often though because disassembling buttons to remove and reinstall the batteries isn’t fun.
Following up on my issues with ZigBee and the Aqara Temp/Hum/Presure sensor.
01-20 02:36:31.560 WARNING (MainThread) [zigpy.application] Zigbee channel 11 utilization is 89.80%!
I'll start by moving the PC with the dongle. Not sure when I'll get to do that yet.
Quirks V2, provided they allow describing manufacture-specific stuff of the device in 1 place in a preferably declarative manner (where possible) without the need to also add entities in ZHA integration would imo give the biggest boost in popularity since it'll allow catching up with z2m in terms of supported devices and their features rather quickly.
Is there a way to determine the actual mesh path that device use to contact the controller? The HA network diagram is bogus. I disconnected the router node for device and it still reported in immediately and the network diagram still reflects the old path and the presence of the disconnected node
The networking diagram is built by asking every mains-powered device on the network what its neighbors and child devices are. This is done every four hours. It's not realtime.
can you force an update?
Click the "Refresh topology" button and wait for 5 minutes
There's no fixed path (nor is the path symmetric), they're recomputed constantly by devices on the network.
will it ever be possible to get past the maximum group commands per 9 seconds (ish?) limitation of zigbee?
They can't be recomputed continuously or battery powered devices wouldn't last long
It's enforced by every single router on your network. You can send more by changing the limit in the coordinator firmware (if supported) but other routers on the network won't use that limit.
Battery powered devices have a parent router. The path between the coordinator and the parent router (in both directions) is not static
Zigbee groups work great for me to control my lights, but if I'm sending a light set level with on/off and a light set color temperature for each group of lights I can overload the mesh just walking through my not-that-big house
it's a bummer
If you want to try tweaking things, see if changing these constants works for you (e.g. radius=3, non_member_radius=1)
OK so the mains routers remove other failed routers from the mesh and when a terminal device can't connect to it's router "broadcasts a help message" of sorts to get new router?
I don't know if I'm ready to do custom_deps again. I might forget and bork my system on an upgrade
Where can I find a Custom quirks file for a Zigbee AM43 blinds controller
I am having the issue that it gets detected as a "Temperature sensor" instead of a blinds controller/cover
It's been more than five minutes and the disconnected router is still present in the network map and still connected to other routers and end nodes
Correct. was hoping someone had a Custom quirk file that I could test out, since in the previous support request, people talked about a custom quirk, but when I try to look for it, I can't find it.
If its just a misaligned header, it would be fine with me as well.
to get normal support.
if you go to the device page and click the 3-dots across from the "reconfigure" button and then select "manage zigbee device" and then "signature" what is the model at the bottom of that json?
also the manufacturer
If that's what other devices on the network report, that's what will be shown in the visualization
maybe the other devices hold on to their map info longer
Help me make sense out of that
Let's take a step back here. What are you looking to do?
@bold plume you might just have to add your manufacturer line to the ts0601.py quirk like here: MODELS_INFO: [ ("_TZE200_fzo2pocs", "TS0601"), ],
I'm trying to analyze the effect of routers going down on terminal nodes being able to report. I have created two battery backed routers using Sonoff sticks flashed with router code. I located these at two locations in my house to serve as routers should the power fail. They work and are meshed. My HA system, routers, SMS server, etc are on UPS and will continue to function.
You won't be able to recover properly after the power failure ends because end devices picking these routers will stick to them until the routers disconnect
Assuming end devices can contact them to begin with
And assuming the end devices can even switch parents
Hello. I'm trying to move away from my Hue Bridge and it seems I'm unable to really use the Philips Dimmer V2 using ZHA. Would I have to do some weird shenanigans to get it working or does it only work through Zigbee2MQTT?
I'm trying to make sure end nodes can report during a power failure. Are you telling me that some zigbee devices may not be able to switch parent routers? Would that be a vilation of thew zigbee standard?
Yes, some older Aqara devices don't switch parent routers and will just wait for their original parent to come back online. They will never scan for a new parent.
Easiest way to test would be to just cut power to your house and see what happens 😄
There's reason I use Z-Wave for my most critical devices. They are tested for compliance not self "certified". I plan on full power cut test.
My battery backed routers https://i.imgur.com/264KOyI.png
Old Aqara devices were never advertised as Zigbee compliant to begin with (or even as Zigbee devices from what I recall) so you get what you pay for 🤷♂️
Failure to comply with standards ->>> quirks
his point is that you're blaming the standard or lack thereof when really it's the devices (and manufacturers) that are bad actors. there are plenty of zwave devices that the zwave alliance should've put in a volcano and device firmware is often fucked on lots of zwave devices (not to say there arent issues with some zigbee stuff either)
zigbee is a cluster of poorly implemented and nonstandard devices
the things tuya does are insane
I have some new Ikea bulbs which I am trying to add to my Zigbee network on a SkyConnect coordinator. They initally connect and configure and then fail. Exactly as in this "stale" thread. https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/86976. There are also several other closed, but not resolved threads with similar issues. Is it worth bothering to raise yet another one, if they are all being ignored.
Never had Z-Wave device go AWOL in over 8 years. A non-enforced standard liike Zigbee is not standard it's a suggestion. ALL Z-Wave devices must pass Z-Wave compliance certification. Your hearsay is exactly that, hearsay. I use both but only trust Z-Wave for critical uses.
Please do and include debug logs (including of startup). I have this exact combination of devices and cannot replicate it.
Since some of the comments seem to differ from the original post in that issue, what do you mean exactly with "and then fail"?
- The pairing never completes for you and no entity shows up.
- Does the bulb pair with the light entity showing up, but you just can't control it?
- or another issue?
But raising a new issue with debug logs might help (and screenshots of how the pairing window and device page look maybe).
The paring completes and the device is completed. Then around 30 seconds latter it fails and will not respond and eventually goes unavailable.
I will have another go tomorrow at linking the bulbs again.
But before "it fails", you can control it from HA?
Where is this quirk located?
Have tried adding it to the COVER quirk
https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/blob/dev/zhaquirks/tuya/ts0601_cover.py
But it still shows up as a temp sensor
Hi all, I have a few questions about Home Assistant, Tuya, Homekit and ZigBee devices. I am using Raspberry Pi 4 which is running Home Assistant on it, and running Homebridge via Portainer in Home Assistant as well. Also, I have connected Sonoff USB Zigbee Dongle to Raspberry Pi.
My first question, I have installed MQTT (Mosquitto Broker) and Zigbee2MQTT in HA. I have 2 different ZigBee devices, one of them is “Tuya Zigbee PIR Smart Motion Sensor” and, other one is “Tuya Zigbee Smart Button”. Both devices are integrated into HA, and working properly with no issue at this point but when I tried to transfer to Homekit via HomeKit Bridge, only I could see the motion sensor is added to Homekit. I couldn't find any way to add the smart button to Homekit.
Second question, I have “Tuya WiFi Temperature Humidity Sensor”, “Tuya Bluetooth Temperature Humidity Sensor”, and “Tuya Bluetooth Led Strip”. I have connected them to Tuya App. All devices are working properly in Tuya App. But when I tried to integrate to HA via Tuya Cloud, only wifi devices looked like online. The rest of their status was offline. Because of that reason, I couldn't integrate Bluetooth tuya devices into HA. Should I buy Tuya Bluetooth Gateway?
Any advice is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Sometimes for a second or two, no more.
- I don't know if you can transfer buttons to homekit. I think maybe you can't, but could be wrong. 2nd you need a Bluetooth proxy and the tuya ble integration
Interesting. But yeah, create an issue and provide debug logs of this happening.
Also, did you migrate from another coordinator to SkyConnect?
New issue raised: https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/108566
I have a eth wired Zigbee coordinator. At the moment, my ZHA integration is set to use the coordinator's IP (socket://W.X.Y.Z:8888) but I would like to switch to using a local domain assigned to the coordinator (zigbee.home -> socket://zigbee.home:8888), so that I can move IPs around in some VLANs
I've tried editing the config entry for ZHA (/config/.storage/core.config_entries), but neither the entry name, nor the serial port (updated with the new domain setting) seem to be updating when I click "Configure" after an integration reload. Am I doing something wrong? Is there any caching in place?
Alternately, how could I change the coordinator's IP address without deleting the ZHA integration entry and having to re-add and rename all 80+ devices?
apparently a restart was required
A migration > reconfigure current radio would achieve this with out a restart (zha would restart but not all of ha)
Hi! I'm a newbie and have this Moes ZM-105B-M. I have it connected to ZHA (Green) and it's recognized as TS0601 (not sure if it should be like that) so i want to dim the light, or even just on/off and it's not working. Do you folks have an idea if i just configured it wrongly or if i'm missing any second step?
The device is indeed registered but i can't use it in any automation. I don't even have its controls
For the Sonoff Zigbee adapter. How far is the range? Can it go through walls and pipes?
Tuya devices often are unusable until someone reverse engineers that specific device and implements support. Open an issue here: https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/. One may already exist, just search for the random-looking manufacturer name.
Zigbee is a mesh network, the coordinator's range alone isn't usually relevant because you can always place router devices (e.g. bulbs or outlets) to extend it
Got it. Ideally I don’t have to do that. But I’ll check it out thanks
Thanks! I noticed the device is in here: https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/pull/2903 and it's already merged. Do you have a idea how this will merge into HA? Or where can i track the process in HA side? I'm imagining that this is now a matter of adding the new zigpy into HA and i have to wait?
It'll probably be in the 2024.2.0 beta
i see the beta is coming out in january 31st if i'm not mistaken... thanks!
Do you mean all the new Tuya Zigbee devices (switches and dimmers) are unable to connect using Zigbeemqtt on home assistant ?
Puddly has suggested I upgrade the firmware on my SkyConnect. Please can someone confirm if this will mean I need to repair all my devices? Also if I should shut down home assistant completely before removing the SkyConnect from the PC.
You can just unplug it and flash it, ZHA auto restores your network settings (this isn't actually needed with the SkyConnect though, as a firmware update doesn't affect them)
Thanks, I hate messing with firmware upgrades. Too many years experience of problems. I might wait till the morning as if I break all the motion sensors and existing lights I will not be popular.
Tuya devices often violate standards so much that they will do nothing unless someone reverse engineers that specific device. If nobody has done that yet, the Tuya device you buy will do nothing
i mean it's doing something.. you just cant interact with it lmao
Thanks. But is there another range of devices that you can advice which would stay in a similar budget. IAm using Ziggbee2mqtt on home assistant
I have a lot of Aqara zigbee devices which seem to work fine on ZHA and are supported on Zigbee2MQtt. The best thing is to check out the supported device list and only purchase ones on that list.
Thats the thing Tuya is also on that list for switches and sockets. I am aiming for the similar model numbers too.
Identical model numbers would be safer.
Aqara stuff is better than Tuya
I got 5 Aqara wireless mini switches from AliExpress and they all work fine.
Some were a pain to pair with ZHA, but at least they eventually worked.
I may load up on their sensors if I end up dumping Yolink
someone told me that I shouldn’t update IKEA's tradfris. is it now?
Anyone having issues with Inovelli fan switches after the Firmware update?
I can turn them on/off in Z2M directly, but HASS says they're unavailable and won't let me control them at all. Very odd
Updating any Zigbee device (other than 3Reality) risks stuff breaking since the manufacturer's generally don't know or care about anything other than their hub
3Reality is the exception
did third reality rename to 3 reality?
third rock from the sun 😛
I tried finding their website one day and couldn't find it.
Then I went on their Facebook page and found out it was 3reality dot com.
Seems like they use both names interchangeably.
Any input how to debug the following error from Zigbee2MQTT? I'm not sure why it stopped working, but I suspect it was after I wanted to test installing the Add-On OpenThread Border Router. I've also tried to restore backup to one week ago. I even removed the Thread Router again
Error: Reset error: Error: {"sequence":-1} after 10000ms
at /app/node_modules/zigbee-herdsman/src/adapter/ezsp/driver/uart.ts:299:23
at Queue.executeNext (/app/node_modules/zigbee-herdsman/src/utils/queue.ts:32:32)
You didn't install the multi-protocol add-on and flash the stick, did you?
The devs are moving to strongly discouraging that approach
Also, recent versions of that add-on don't support Z2M
No I didn't. Just push the install on the add-on. But I removed the Thread Router again.
Shouldn't it be reversed, when I deinstall the Thread Router and afterwards restore to an older version backup? Or do it do some magic on the hardware that I can't roll back?
Should be, hopefully
Though a simple reboot may also fix it if you removed the add-ons
Yah I did that too several times. Nothing helpen. 😦
Nothing as in:
- Uninstall Thread Router, restart
- Rollback to earlier backup, restart
No multi-protocol add-on?
It's a Home Assistant Yellow, and I can see I can "Enable multiprotocol support on the IEEE 802" under the Hardware section. Is it was you refer to? It is currently not enabled.
Good, you don't want that enabled
And you don't want the multiprotocol add-on installed
If I would like to have Thread Border Router, should I then install my old Conbee2, use it for ZigBee2MQTT, and the use the builtin radio in HA Yellow as the Thread device instead?
#thread-archived can tell you about the Thread side, but probably - just remember to use a USB extension cable
I got it working after a firmware upgrade from the official Ad-On Solicon Labs Flasher. 🙂
Hey,
I've just added a Ikea tradfri switch over Zigbee2MQTT.
I'm want to set it up as trigger for a lightbulb but when selecting the device as trigger im not able to select any of the buttons.
I can only select one of these 4:
update availability changed
became up-to-date
got an update available
battery battery level changes
what's the "trigger indicator" switch entity in the aqara p1 motion sensor? (zha)
I think it’s to enable / disable visual feedback from the device
I mistakenly ordered a downlight without a neutral wire.
So how do I connect this downlight to work with my neutral wire electrical system?
you mean the LED light will flash or something when motion is detected?
I believe so
Let's say we have a house that is 3 stories, each storey is 10' tall. Whole house is lumber (built in Toronto Canada). Would one coordinator in the basement be sufficient with routers on each floor? Or recommended to have one coordinator per floor?
You shouldn't use multiple coordinators
Just ensure that you have adequate coverage with devices that act as routers
Okay cool. I was looking at the SLZB-06 coordinator, any idea what it's range is for ZigBee comms?
Does someone know if Aqara door sensor is kind of incompatible with Ikea bulbs? I cannot connect them directly, Aqara sensor always connects to my Orsam on the other end ob the house.
Range from the coordinator to the nearest routers is all that matters, and that's usually in the 6 to 8 meter range, but sometimes less
Osram ... Zigbee 1.2 or 3.0? Their 1.2 stuff is known to break meshes and cause problems. I've got various OG (and newer) Aqara happily connected through Tradfri bulbs.
They're old. How can I see the zb version?
I don't think either Z2M or ZHA shows that, but if they're old they're probably the known bad type
Can this be fixed by update?
Is it enough to remove the osram devices to fix the mesh? Mine is a total mess with a lot of weak connections.
Yes
Innr are known to be strong routers
Newer Tradfri devices are also good - the older firmware versions have problems
Removed all Osram/Ledvance products, I thinks it's getting greener in my mesh, thank you!
What is a reasonable configuration for wired and battery powered device timeout? Currently I use 21600 / 7200 but sometime I have the feeling devices are listed as online but not responding.
Do have to do anything manual to get zigbee2mqtt connect devices via other wired devices that are closer than my HA yellow? The map looks like the battery devices are doing it the hard way. Doesn't look Like I'm allowed to add an image.
You can pair to/through a specific device via the arrow beside the permit join button but most devices tend to roam around on their own.
I am using a conbee 2 coordinator and the nearest main device is like 3m. But other devices are a bit away from coordinator but closer to the Main device ( a zigbee main powered switch). Therefore i made all the switches as neutral powered switch acting as main devices. Will this interfere with the zigbee mesh or the speed of zigbee if almost 80% of my home device ( mainly switches sockets) are all main powered (neutral wire attached) and acting as a router.? Will this effect the zigbee mesh in a positive way or otherwise?
So don't pay too much attention to the map and just leave it alone unless it's not working?
Just seeing low lqi numbers on the map for battery devices that are like, 1m from a hard wired ZigBee light switch.
That's what I do. Low is relative.
I am using a conbee 2 coordinator and
Just to confirm the firmware update went well, once I got the correct drivers for my Mac and both the Ikea bulbs connected fine.
Even their 3.0 ruined my network. Would strongly recommend stearing clear
Disagree their zigbee 3.0 cat feeder even improved my mesh lol
I think they are talking about Osram
oh
well maybe it started w/ osram I am not sure what purkinje was referring to... could be aqara
but I agree the aqara zb 3 stuff is fine
the older stuff works great too if you don't have routers that drop them
the older aqara door/window sensor on my pantry has failed me a handful of times in like a year.. every other one has been solid
i havent tried re pairing it tbh
Someone knows why my perfectly working (1 year) zigbee devices suddenly begin to disconnect? (both zigbee router presence sensors), they are driving me nuts because I have to unplug and plug them everytime
Probably interference
even with lots of repeaters and routers around the house?, I mean most of the devices are 100+ lqi
Doesn't mean much if those are shit routers (Sonoff, Osram), or you've got WiFi stomping all over your Zigbee channel
Sonoff, Osram.. Got it, I'm replacing sonoff devices soon, my offline sensors are tuya m-100
You can kind of use the zcl_version attribute on the Basic cluster for this. 1 is "Zigbee 1.2", 2, 3, 8 and higher is "Zigbee 3.0".
Ah... interesting
But if it's an Osram device and zclVersion on genBasic shows 1, then it's likely not great.
Evening folks.
I've got an ikea 5 button controller integrated via z2m that, in addition to the light in the room also seems to toggle the aqara plug sitting in the vicinity. The light is what I have a automation for, the plug shouldn't be switching.
The logs for the plug just say "turned on" or "turned off", like if I had toggled the physical button. Any hints on how to debug this?
any issues running 2 coordinators on a network? example: one in house, one in outdoor shop on same subnet?
it's one coordinator per zigbee network
The LAN network doesn't matter, though
if using network connected coordinators you can have multiple on the same IP network, but require multiple z2m setups or one zha and other z2m
If using a poe coordinator
i see. ideally, i'd have all my devices on the same coordinator to add more repeaters, but i'm not sure that's an option i have with a separate building
i'm not guessing there's other solutions that people use to bridge something like that?
there is no way to bridge zigbee over a wired network.
thread yes with TREL enabled boarder routers but that's another channel
gotcha
i have philips hue motion sensors that keep getting unavailable. All random. It is connected to sonoff controller. Worked perfectly on hue hub last week. Known?
What Zigbee routers do you have?
Hey guys, I'm very new to HA. I got an aqara temp and humidity sensor last week and linked it directly to a skyconnect ZHA. It worked for a few days and then disconnected for no reason... I now can't work out how to remove the device and re add it, or if I should be doing something else. Battery was reporting 100% when it disconnected
Not really sure if this is the right place, but does anyone have any recommendations for Zigbee-friendly key lights / ring lights that I can put behind my webcam for meetings? I have one now, but it's just remote controlled. Right now I just have it plugged into a Zigbee plug, but whenever it turns on it goes to default settings (super bright and the coolest white) so I have to find the remote to adjust anyway.
@ember night I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
If you go to 'settings' , 'devices', find your device and click the link to it. You get a page where you see 'reconfigure', and three dots next to that. I would first try to click the 'reconfigure' button. If that doesn't help, click the three dots, select 'remove' and then try to add it again. FWIW, I have an aqara temp and humidity sensor that has been up and running with no fall-out for more than a year, so it might have been a fluke
The light is not a Zigbee light, but a remotely dimmable light that is linked to a Zigbee plug? In ZHA I can set the behavior at startup for each light (it's a separate entity that is created when you pair the light), so any Zigbee light that is dimmable should do. I don't know any key or ring lights from the top of my head but I know there are plenty of places that sell profiles for LED strips so you can DIY it.
By remotely I mean with a literal IR remote lol. It has no WiFi or app connectivity. But I didn’t really want to deal with getting an IR blaster.
Thanks man, that's super helpful. I've readded the sensor and hoping it stays alive for a while longer this time. There's a chance I need a signed repeater or something to help the signal to my son's room. Any suggestions in that department would also be massively appreciated 🤘🏻
Gotcha. I can't really help you except for the suggestion of a Zigbee LED strip and some aluminum profiles and corner pieces. Or this thing mounted back to front: https://www.philips-hue.com/nl-nl/p/hue-white-and-color-ambiance-sana-wandlamp/8719514343405
Yes, poor signal is a well-know reason for dropping devices. Almost any zigbee device that is plugged in (like a light bulb) can function as a repeater. It does need to be connected to the mains all the time, so if you just use it as a repeater, a zigbee plug is handy, or a light bulb that you switch on and off with a remote, so you don't cut the power to it when you switch it off.
Thanks, I'll give that a whirl 🔥
Did you set it to 4000K as the color temp?
Right, that's in mired. Try 250 mired then
on that setting, the bulb should reach 1600 lumen
To what bulbs are you comparing it to?
Do you know if it's first or second gen? / what's the model number in Z2M?
Can you check the Zigbee model in Z2M?
(First and second gen have different brightness levels, so just wanna know what you're comparing it to)
ah, yep. That's the second gen. Should have 520 lumen (first gen only has 300 lumen)
And you're seeing like no difference when both setting them to 4000K (250 mired), 100% brightness?
Maybe like try pointing at it some walls and see how that compares
painful lesson learned: don't buy random zigbee devices assuming they're supported 🥲
With what devices are you having issues?
I was looking for plain 2-button "scene runner" and this was the best looking one.... so I just bough it assuming it will be supported.... or assuming I will just add support if needed 😄
Hi folks, I’m looking for a contact sensor that’s about the size of the Aqara sensors that I can use with a zigbee hub. Right now I’ve got Aqara contact sensors, but I want to replace them for something not tied to some cloud hub.
I have put two of them outside inside of a small weatherproof box/case thing to use with my fences, so I’m looking for something equally discrete and that can be used in a similar fashion (specifically in a weatherized case). I think I may have found one:
https://www.amazon.com/Contact-Sensors-Automation-Notifications-Assistant/dp/B0CJ4Q59PM/
To put in this outdoors:
https://www.amazon.com/YXQ-55x35x15mm-Waterproof-Electric-Junction/dp/B0725BDJ25/
But open to recommendations. Indoor I’m not as concerned about size or what not, but I’d probably just buy all the same make/model. Any suggestions for those that have done something similar?
An alternative would be to somehow use the Aqara sensors with a local, non-Aqara hub if possible.
Also looking for a water leak sensor, but one thing at a time
aqara contact sensors are zigbee
see https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/supported-devices/#v=Xiaomi&e=contact&s=aqara
The aqara sensors are also quite good in terms of performance and battery
Yes, but they require the Aqara hub. I want to eliminate the Aqara hub and phoning home to Aqara from the picture
they do not require aqara hub - you can pair them with HA
With any zigbee “hub” that’s also attached to HA you mean?
yeah, most people use some form of USB controller. You can use a standalone zigbee gateway/hub with wifi/ethernet too, but I personally opt for USB one to decrease number of points where stuff can fail 😉
Oh nice… I imagine the Aqara motion sensor and Aqara flood sensors fall into the same boat then?
https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/supported-devices/#s=aqara&e=occupancy other motion sesors from aqara
With zigbee most devices will work with open-source hubs; propritary/vendor-specific ones usually only support that vendor's devices or whitelist a small number of 3rd party ones. The only catch is not everything in zigbee world is stable and devices can use many different parameters. This is why buying random untested zigbee device may backfire 😉
That being said, buying from bigger brands, like Aqara/Xiaomi in your case, usually leads to good results.
Example from yours truly, where just clicking "Buy" because it's zigbee didn't result in a supported device 🤣
i have sonoff dongle usb plus
i have tried to change channels as well. There is 1 sensor falling out after 3-4 hours. The others works.
No routers?
You need routers, just a coordinator only works for a single room
(coordinator - the main connection point/manager of your network; always just 1)
(router - pretty much repeater; most wall-powered devices serve as routers; can/should be multiple)
(end device - a device that isn't a router)
Hello, I am looking for help to correctly integrate an alarm remote control with zha (LDSENK09) the automatic recognition does not seem to work well, I think I need a quirck but I don't know not how to do it.
But it's people like you (and me, but I got lucky, no unsupported devices yet) that help to create the database of working devices. Thanks!
im looking at buying a termostat for the floor heating that runs zigbee, however it does not show amoung the supported devices on zigbee2mqtt.io. Does it mean that I will not be able to integrate it at all?
Awesome!
what is the zigbee home initative?
Hello everyone,
What is the best USB dongle to buy to work with Aqara and non-Aqara devices?
Thank you
Buy something CC2652 based. This list is a good one, both Tube and Electrolama have been proven to have excellent customer service. The current generation of EZSP sticks (see here for some) are also a good choice for ZHA.
Anything CC2530 or CC2531 based should be avoided - they're old, slow, and only suitable for a dozen or so devices. The Sonoff ZBbridge isn't advised since it uses WiFi (built in interference causing stability/reliability issues), and the HUSBZB-1 uses an older chipset so should be avoided.
Finally, the ConBee range are fine with deCONZ, but experience with ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT appears to be mixed.
Slightly outdated, but still basically correct
ok, thanks!
Any recommendations on a prefered one?
@red gate When using Discord's Reply feature it defaults to pinging the person you reply to, which can get frustrating for the target. Use Shift + click on the Reply option, or click @ ON to @ OFF to stop this - on the right side of the compose bar.
You have to change this every time (thank the Discord devs for that).
Depends, ZHA or Z2M?
For Z2M... see the bot message 😉
For ZHA... also see the bot message, but any current gen (non-Sonoff) EZSP stick will be fine
No idea, what's the difference?
There are three Zigbee options with Home Assistant (regardless of how you install it). These are:
zha is actively developed as part of Home Assistant Core, using the zigpy stack, the UI also being part of Home Assistant. The EmberZNet based sticks are recommended (though the HUSBZB-1 uses an older chipset), but there are other options including the CC2652 based sticks. There is no list of supported devices, as any standards compliant device should work. Devices that require extra support are listed, and adding unsupported devices is documented.
Zigbee2MQTT is very actively developed and can run in an add-on, in a Docker container, and natively. As of 1.15 has a native UI, and it also uses MQTT for control and configuration. It supports mostly TI based sticks, with the recommended option being the [CC2652 based sticks](#zigbee-archived message). If you want to use an EmberZNet stick see this issue. The known working devices are well documented (which usually includes how to pair them so you don't have to find the manual), and adding unsupported devices is also documented.
deCONZ is relatively stable and mature with its own UI (and Discord server). It can run in an add-on, in a Docker container, or natively. Only the ConBee range of sticks and RaspBee GPIO boards are supported. Known working devices are documented, and how to request support for a new device is documented too (you can't add unsupported devices yourself).
The bot message is outdated now - Z2M supports any device as of 1.35
So, any zha dongle basically?
What about Sky connect (for use with zigbee2mqtt)
is it possible in the z2m gui to see which Sonoff device im running? I was not aware that there was 2 different versions when I bought it and the order confirmation does not reveal which one I have
then its a P 🙂
Hmm. Just set up a bunch of Hue GU10 bulbs. They're all the same type, yet 3 of them are showing up in HA with RGB controls. Obviously, colour changing doesn't work :) Can I convince HA that given bulb is just adjustable temperature W?
Z2M or ZHA? If it's ZHA, you might need a quirk
I've got a woox smart plug with tasmota installed. I've been able to connect it to my broker and can see it in Home Assistant. Works great but I have a Hue Button that supports binding. Is there anyway for me to bind from zigbee2Mqtt to a tasmota Matt device?
ZHA; do tell more?
Which Zigbee integration are you using?
You're after #automations-archived, there's no binding outside of ZIgbee
Can you download diagnostics JSON for the three devices?
And if others were added of the same type (same manufacturer / model) please supply a diagnostic file for one of the ones without the controls too
Hey folks, I'm very new to HA and just recently got my server up and running and I'm starting to get my integrations set up. I currently have the OG Philips Hue Hub with 9 Hue lights, which I think are the only Zigbee devices I own. I'm looking to set up temperature sensors throughout the house. I wanted to inquire if the Philips devices will also serve as routers for the temperature sensors as long as I buy ones that are Zigbee compliant?
I am sorry. Can you explain what you mean with a router in zigbee relation?
It works on every single zigbee device. Except it fails on 1-2 philips hue sensors. What am i missing?
Do you use ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT?
Using ZHA
What sensors?
I don't use ZHA nor philips devices so take this with some salt but I've heard ZHA doesn't support green power yet and some philips devices use it? Might be related to that.
Green power support is in the works but that is correct. ATM we do not support ZGP
SML001
by Philips
Okay. So when the device goes deep idle zha isnt able to wake up the device again?
Those aren’t ZGP
https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/89311 these are problematic in general
There is a long discussion you can read here
You can try this: https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/89311#issuecomment-1565740967 but make sure to read the post
So that you understand what the ramifications are
The funny thing is that i have 4 sensors like this. And only 1 get unavailable after 4 hours.
The others works normal. It is only philips hue. When i use hue bridge everything works superfine. I have just ditched hue bridge and used sonoff for 2 weeks and i see this issue
You can’t compare vendor hubs to integrations… the software is completely different
Have a suggestion to replacement device instead of philipshue ones?
Start here and read the post. Try the suggestion if you are comfortable with/ the ramifications
i will read. If it gets to hard i switch to another product either in zwave or zigbee 😄 Thanks for answer
Lowering security doesnt matter when there is nothing around the house which can connect to my sonoff right?
My opinion on this is that the security impact it negligible
That is MY opinion though
Very thankful for response on this. The devices are quite old. I could see if i can get hold on SLM003 in the future.
This will probably be the same for rwl021 remotes from hue as well i guess
IIRC this "lowered security"/"unsecured rejoins" is default for Z-Stack (TI) firmware even.
Hey folks- hoping someone might point me in the right direction. I have two Kwikset zigbee deadbolts and they both have stopped responding to lock / unlock commands as of this morning. I am using Zigbee2MQTT and both locks appear to be visible to my system. I am using a TubesZB to act as the coordinator (I think that's the right term) between Home assistant and the zigbee locks.
If I go to "log" and show "error" or "warning" there are no entries of that type..
What is the best way to find out if these use Zigbee 3.0 or an earlier version?
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804539313369.html
i don't see the info anywhere on aqara's website (facepalm) -> i guess u'd need to ask them / google for opinions
sometimes you can find listings when looking for aqara E1 and T1 for the 3.0 stuff
That looks like a good one. I found one post that outlined what each model number means, which makes it easier to search for it.
"11LM is the original version that runs zigbee 1.2 only
12LM is the T1 iteration that runs zigbee 3.0 similar to all the newer releases
13LM is the P1 version that looks different (like a cigar) and uses a different battery to allow for five year cycles between battery changes
14LM is the E1 revision of the original (which is also the one that runs into region locking and may only pair on specific region hubs)"
This one you sent is the 14LM. Would this be better or worse than the 12LM? (which I can't seem to find)
E1 is just easier to find, it's 3.0 too
the region lock was bypassed in the zstack fw and in the library libs for efr32
Hi all, I have a Silabs Multiprotocol and trying to debug why Z2MQTT is not working properly... are there any tips on how to get the debug info from Zigbeed?
If Z2M isn't working, you may want to start with Z2M. I'm not aware of any issues with zigbeed itself.
Are 1.2 actually any worse given it's just a door/windows sensor? Even looking at Amazon aqara sells only 11LM in the US, so it seems like they're still are full-steam making them.
The first gen ones come with all the caveats of aqara and non compliant behavior with routers. See the pins
Huh... I seeeee (currently reading through https://community.hubitat.com/t/xiaomi-aqara-devices-pairing-keeping-them-connected/623). I guess I was lucky with their curtain driver then, as it's rock solid.
I just ordered 5 of the 11LM as they are reviewed very favorably in terms of battery and reliability... damn 🥲
Just make sure you have routers that tolerate them and join them through one that near them
I have some main's IKEA devices [which seem to be compatible] and IIRC Inovelli switches communicate without an issue with curtain drivers, so fingers crossed.
was looking at some track lighting online and it offers zigbee but it's tuya. another option is 2.4ghz wifi. is tuya that bad that i should give wifi access to this track lighting?
I think Philips Hue also has (Zigbee) track lighting, heh. But it's more on the expensive side
I have been... I have Z2M logs coming out of places that are NSFW. I need to see BOTH sides of the conversations, hence my request for 'How to enable Zigbeed logs'. I dodnt say there was problems with it!, I just need to see why the tcp conversation is not working well
yea this was some no name brand online hahaha
There aren't really any logs for Zigbeed itself from what I recall. You can enable CPC debug logging in the addon, which will show you traffic, but that's very verbose. The reason I mention Z2M is because its support for EZSP is poor at the moment and the only issues I'm aware of with ZHA + multiprotocol are resolved by restarting the addon (which will happen automatically once the firmware resets after a crash).
thanks.. I have been speaking to the Z2M chaps and providing lots of logs.. trying to find out where it all went wrong. Z2M worked fine until the last gecko update - just to establish what needs to be fixed. In all my cases, the Z2M does not start properly after boot and gets stuck in a loop of sorts - a manual restart fixes it - but that is not useful 😦
The addon will be downgraded to the last stable version pretty soon.
hey folks - would anyone have a lead or idea on why after a year, a centralite thermostat would suddenly become "unavailable"?
Hello, I need help with my extremely unstable Zigbee network.
My HA instance is very simple and it literally has one automation and one type of Zigbee device (8 MOES Zigbee IR remotes) hooked to HA via Sonoff ZBDongle-E on channel 25, and it just has to turn ON and Off the 8 ACs multiple times a day. Nothing more.
Yet it fail at doing this simple task, sometimes all the IR remotes receives the command and turn On/Off the ACs, sometimes only 2-5 remotes work, and sometimes non. The only fix that works (most if the time) is to restart Z2M, then all of the IR remotes work. So I made another automation to restart Z2M everyday, which worked for a period of time then back bad as usual, now even after restarting, does work as before.
I tried changing the Zigbee channel, Changing the batteries, trying different IR remotes and still nothing.
What is driving me crazy is the fact that I don’t know what’s the cause of the issue, I just updated HA and restarted the server, and everything works great (8 out of 8 remotes work), and I assure that a couple of hours from now not all 8 will work. Why is that? Why a restart fixes the issue 60-80% of the time? And why do I have to restart it in the first place ?
And sometimes it works, but there is a long delay, like 10-20 seconds between me pressing Off, and the ACs turning off via the IR remotes
And there is no noticeable pattern in the devices not working, it’s not like the far devices fail, and the close devices to the coordinator work. No, sometimes the close devices fail, and the far ones still work. it’s quite random
Zigbee is best when there are routing/repeating devices on the network so it creates a mesh. Also interference can definitely play a roll.
I would've shared pictures and videos of the place if I could, but it is literally a 50x50m large room with no walls inner walls, and no interference of any sorts
You have no 2.4 GHz WiFi, no Bluetooth, no other 2.4 GHz sources anywhere near you?
Lots of things use the 2.4 GHz band as it's unlicensed
nothing in that area, the router and the HA server in another room
Signals do travel you know 😉
there is a 5m usb for the coordinator 2 extension cable running from the closed room to the other large one
Also interference can be by the HA server, or even from the HA server
that's why i'm using the 5m extension
I tried almost everything
maybe the only thing left is to try ZHA instead of Z2M, but I think it wouldn't make a diffrence
It won't
yea, that's why I didn't want to waste time for nothing
what would you do if you faced this issue?
maybe I skipped a crucial step in my troubleshooting
using a wifi analyzer?
That's a crude tool good for checking for WiFi only
ZHA's diagnostics can help a little, but a proper spectrum analyser would be useful
well, I can't justify getting spectrum analyzer at the moment, but what I can tell you with 90% certainty that it shouldn't be interference (I might not know better) but I'm saying that because, The large empty hall has no APs or anything that may interfere with the zigbee network, the wifi router is cheap and short ranged and is located in another room alongside the server which is a laptop. The whole building is just the hall and the small utility room and is not surrounded by any houses or buildings in a 20-30m distance
I'm not good at explaining since English isn't my first language but I hope you get what I mean (pictures would've been easier)
And there's no wireless microphones?
only wired mics and security cameras

and from what I know, zigbee can travel up to 100m if it didn't face interference

Soo, any help?
Add routers
I tried adding one a while back, didn't help. But sure I'll try again
any other things you might try if the routers doesn't make a difference?
Well, depends on what you added, and only one router doesn't really count
Routers is plural 😉
Don't add Sonoff or Osram - do add Innr or dedicated CC2652 based routers
Innr do smart plugs 😉
I removed it since the signal reached all 8 remotes (including the far ones). but you're saying that a router isn't just for extending the reach of the signal?
I meant I already own only smart plugs/sockets
One router may not be enough
are dedicated CC2652 based routers better than the routers in the bulbs, plugs, etc?
As others have said, this is a mesh network
Sometimes
Also, adding routers won't necessarily mean devices use them, you may need to re-pair them through that router
I thought it wouldn't matter since there is only 8 end devices. but sure lesson learned
of course
I'm also facing similar issues in my house, even though almost half om my devices are routers
like the Aqara door sensor remains "open" even after closing the door, and I have to press the button to refresh it
it's like when the door closes, and the sensor sends the signal, it doesn't reach the server. even though it never gets stuck on "closed"
any way. I'll try adding routers. thanks for now
https://community.hubitat.com/t/xiaomi-aqara-devices-pairing-keeping-them-connected/623 for Aqara not staying connected please read through this… the older gen devices are very picky about their parents.
Is it possible to take my Hue bulbs and migrate them to my Zigbee installation? Eliminating the hue hub entirely?
Yes
I am actually kinda surprised this isn't locked down more. I could totally see tuya stuff lowering the max brightness when not connected to a tuya cloud hub
thanks for the info guys 🙂
Hi, I'm using IKEA Tradfri light bulbs, but when I tap the button on the dashboard it says that the light is at 100%, but it seems like it's as low as it could be. Happens on desktop, mobile etc. But when I use the Tradfri control thingy that's linked through HA, it works. Any ideas?
zigbee2mqtt question
so i bought a device with no support after trying multiple hours i seem to have near full support however how do i now add this to the next release?
device is beok controls 16 wall thermostat.
Beok controls is not a vendor in the zigbee-herdsman converters vendor list (it is however using tuya) do i add it to tuya?
and even then how do i do that? download the libary add my image and my code to the tuya.ts file and do a pull request? im too new to github and dont want to make a mistake here if someone would like to help me that would be great
added a discussion thread on github: https://github.com/Koenkk/zigbee2mqtt/discussions/20986
hello
Does anyone know how to troubleshoot the "NWK conflict" errors? I've been having issues with lights rejoining the network and flashing off and on at 1230am, which is not appreciated by others. I think it might be a rogue router device but I'd like to figure out what is actually happening.
Example:
2024-01-24 09:19:29.014 WARNING (MainThread) [bellows.zigbee.application] Found f0:d1:b8:00:00:02:d1:88 device for 0x9996 NWK conflict: LEDVANCE RT TW```
When I look at the ZHA network card, I don't see any duplicate NWK addresses. I wonder if there is a way to ignore the NWK conflict error and not have the coordinator send a re-pairing command? Maybe just to see if the device is actually not in conflict and the NWK conflict error itself is the problem?
NWK conflicts have to be resolved and they are on the firmware level. You're just receiving a notification that it happened. If you don't want the light to flash when it re-joins, disable "Enable identify effect when devices join the network" in the ZHA config
please help me find that config.
Settings -> Integrations -> ZHA -> ZHA: Configure -> "Enable identify effect"
holy jeepers I hope that works
last night my partner decided to turn off the lights that were blinking and my whole zigbee mesh imploded. Had to reboot HA and reconnect so many lights
You shouldn't be getting the NWK conflicts to begin with so disabling the blinking may only solve the visible problem but not the underlying one
I understand that an actual NWK conflict would have to be resolved, but what if it's a rogue router that is generating that conflict because it is a crap device?
These are unfortunately hard to track, you have to sniff the Zigbee traffic with another device (e.g. a second Zigbee stick)
I mean, what if the device is fine and sending commands to the NWK address is fine, but some router is sending incorrect information to the coordinator and generating the NWK conflict error
I do happen to have an extra zigbee stick...
is there a sniffing guide?
If you have a Mac or Linux computer to plug it into, you can pipe traffic straight into Wireshark: pip install bellows; bellows --baudrate 115200 -d /dev/... dump -c "your zigbee network channel" -w /dev/stdout | wireshark -k -S -i -
For Windows, you will have to generate the traffic dump with -w traffic.pcap and then analyze it after it's written, not in realtime (or use the Java utility that lets you do that)
not to be daft, but where is the info about the "Global options"?
Do you see the ZHA network settings page?
Where it shows you your channel number, PAN ID, etc.?
I mean I don't find it on https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/zha/
I have clicked the checkbox on my own ZHA integration page to disable identify effect but I'm curious about the other check boxes
enable enhanced light color/temperature transition?
Eh, I wouldn't play around with them for now. I think that one could even be removed.
It's a workaround to fix an issue when you turn on a light (from a service call) with a color (from an off-state) and also provide a transition.
I will never not be annoyed that on/off and color temperature are 2 separate commands in zigbee
I just want to turn on a light to a given brightness and level without sending two commands and overloading the mesh with multicast
I use circadian lighting so around sunrise and sunset I'm constantly changing the color temp and brightness.
I suppose I could limit myself to maybe 10 color temp and brightness combinations stored in scenes
Or send the updates very infrequently and use a long transition time
Anyone know when Silicon Labs Multiprotocol version 2.4.4 is coming out? - version 2.4.3 broke the Z2M connection.
Looks like the github repo is slowly being update: https://github.com/home-assistant/addons/blob/master/silabs-multiprotocol/CHANGELOG.md
The addon takes a while to build but it should have been pushed by now
Hi, I'm using IKEA Tradfri light bulbs, but when I tap the button on the dashboard it says that the light is at 100%, but it seems like it's as low as it could be. Happens on desktop, mobile etc. But when I use the Tradfri control thingy that's linked through HA, it works. Any ideas? Please ping on response
Which integration are you using for the Tradfri bulbs? (Hue, Tradfri, ZHA, Z2M, deCONZ)
I seem to be having issues with my SkyConnect. Both my thread and zigbee devices go offline/out of communication shortly after I reboot the rPi the HA install is. I am using the SkyConnect with multiprotocol & OTBR.
Is this an appropriate channel to chat about this in?
ZHA or Z2M?
Well, that at least works with multi-protocol, even if the use of multi-protocol is strongly discouraged
Yeah i know its in beta and all that
I expected problems or flakeyness, but not outright everything bed shits haha
Well, more that it's quite unreliable and likely to ... as you say .. shit the bed
Yea - cant be forever though, right? Was sold to do this eventually.
Eventually, sure, but for now...
I dont mind tinkering with beta stuff - I just wasnt sure where the best place to talk about using it was
since its intentionally straddling. No dedicated channel.
Here for the #zigbee-archived side, #thread-archived for the thread side
I dont wanna bug folks in the wrong place
well ok then!
I didnt notice the zigbee devices also dropping as I only have a couple and may end up not using zigbee at all. Not sure.
Started a few weeks ago - also lost the ability to commission new #thread-archived devices.
Best thing to do for now is abandon multi-protocol and use Google/Apple for #thread-archived
If I had the hardware or was willing to use thos, I would gladly
There's an ESP based TBR, but #thread-archived can tell you all about that
So, for the zigbee devices. Im hearing "if you are using multiprotocol, dont". Which is kinda what I expected from a place not dedicated to the SkyConnect
Well, the devs are now actively discouraging multi-protocol
When the people behind it are saying not to use it... seems wise to listen
Z2M
Does anybody have any idea if it's possible to "stabilize" an Aqara Motion Sensor (not P1)?
Mine keeps disconnecting from my Zigbee coordinator and I can't get it online again unless I re-pair it
Have you tried pairing it through another router device instead of directly to the co-ordinator? E.g. a smart plug/switch
Yeah. It might be a known issue if it’s directly connected to a TI coordinator
Sorry for the ping: would it be safe to say that the skyconnect will sort me out as far as zigbee dongles go for linking Aqara to HA without the need for their hub?
Both ZHA (Zigbee integration in HA) and Zigbee2MQTT support most Aqara (Zigbee) devices. The SkyConnect currently works better with ZHA.
It depends on the integrations which devices are supported, but yeah. It should be fine.
Z2M probably supports more "obscure" Aqara devices where support is not yet added to ZHA.
Ok thank you. 🙏
Separate question (googled it, just confirming here): with that dongle would I be able to get rid of my hue bridge and control my hue lights and switches directly from HA?
Do you have any Hue switches (or Friends of Hue switches) that don't have batteries? So, like "energy-harvesting" devices like the old Hue Tap
Yeah I have a hue tap and their gen 1 4 button switches
The old Hue tap with three buttons or the new one with 4 buttons and a wheel?
Z2M has a good breakdown of multiple dongles and their pros/cons: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/guide/adapters/
I would personally just go with the recommended Sonoff dongle as it's stable.
Oh, right. I forgot you can press down the whole thing
So, the old Hue Tap is a "Zigbee Green Power" device. Those do not (yet) work with ZHA. They should work with Zigbee2MQTT though.
If you want to go that route, a "CC2652"-based stick is recommended. A SkyConnect will work, but the support is still somewhat "experimental".
The Hue lights will work with both ZHA and Z2M, but you'll loose the "Hue entertainment" feature, the Hue app, and so on.
Oh, and the new gradient stuff isn't implemented in ZHA. Not sure about Z2M.
Hue entertainment is the thing that syncs lights to your TV?
Yeah, I think that's what it's called at least
does ZHA support proper animations transitions with zigbee, i.e. starting and stopping it remotely? This was the reason why I moved from ZHA to Z2M as there was no way to easily implement "dim down until holding button" scenario without spamming the zigbee with manual dim-downs
Hmm. Both ZHA and Z2M support "transitions". But if you want to use that with a remote, you'll send a command every half a second or so when the button is pressed.
How is the current behavior in Z2M different?
https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/81346#issuecomment-1321159203 I found your comment on that 🙂
Have a good buy link for the sonoff P dongle? Ameridroid has the E not P. Amazon seems to only have the E also
different chipset - one works great and the other is... experimental
you want the P version.
Sonoff-E is more similar to the SkyConnect, with SiliconLabs/EZSP and not TI/Z-Stack. But that's still experimental for Z2M.
Oh looks like this is one?
I was just about to link this one 😉
Yeah, I’m trying to find a good place to buy the P. Ameridroid only appears to have the E
Heh, perfect
Yeah, my comment below that is what should work in an automation. Were you able to achieve another behavior with Z2M?
The problem with this loop solution is it's often choppy and creates a broadcast storm, this is bad for larger networks. With Z2M you can send "brightness_move" = 0 to stop the currently occuring transition
You can also do that with a ZHA service call, but it's circumventing HA logic a bit.
homeassistant.update_entity can be called afterwards to poll the entity if it doesn't send attribute reports (or if those are ignored because ZHA thinks there's a transition going on. In that case, the call needs to be delayed by transition time + 25 ms (so likely by like 1.25s))
where is the 0.25ms coming from?
I think adding that as an official option would be very good, as "dim-on-hold" is a pretty popular UX paradigm. I'm inadvertently running a UX experiment in my house as I have two types of switches: inovelli with hold-to-dim and some leviton ones with dimming on the side. With no fail pretty much everyone tries to hold on buttons to dim up/down 😉
makes sense now, 0.25ms seemed short
If light.turn_on is called for a ZHA light, it'll ignore any attribute reports coming from that light for transition time + 0.25 seconds to prevent the brightness slider bouncing around in the UI. Calls to poll the light during that transition period are also ignored.
HA only knows about the target brightness.
However, if you suddenly skip the HA layer and directly send commands to the device, ZHA won't know about that.
yeah, the slider jumping is a rather annoying side effect in z2m as when you dim from homekit and slide up to 100% it will jump to "random" brightness first ;D
I think adding that as an official option would be very good
This wouldn't be an easy change, as it would have to be implemented in the "HA Core architecture" first somehow, before ZHA could even "translate" those HA service calls to ZCL commands.
but hmm.... also.... wouldn't ignoring report from device make final state wrong when you e.g. use a zigbee bound switch to stop the transition mid-way?
Yes, as you're circumventing the HA layer at that point. ZHA will eventually poll the light (45 to 75 minutes) though
This is what I was afraid of unfortunately. However from a user's point of view, being able to stop the transition is a very useful option
I'm pretty sure I haven't seen a single issue about this use-case (other than the somewhat related issue you linked)
It's only an issue if the transition is started with a light.turn_on call, but then stopped directly using a ZCL command.
IIRC Z2M works around some of these issues by explicitly listening to what a group-bound dimmer sends.
ZHA/zigpy doesn't keep track of bindings though, so we couldn't do that yet.
