idk why or how, but removing my Hue Go zigbee light from my network resolved all my weird ass issues with my zigbee network. No more random device disconnects. no weird lag with firing commands.
haha I had that experience removing Hue Blooms and OG (2013) Hue colour 🙂
Would be nice to have a list of "known bad" Zigbee devices.
Hmm. Hue Go lights shouldn’t cause any issues from my experience.
Do you know if they were Gen1 or Gen2 (also with Bluetooth)?
Were they powered the whole time or did you leave them on battery?
G1, always powered
It makes no sense but the only change to my network/airspace was removing this device
Interesting. Do you still have the sw_build_id and/or installed OTA/file version?
unsure if i can grab that with the device offline
plug it in. for science.
Yeah, you‘d have to re-join it
I've started a blog entry which I will keep up to date of broken Zigbee devices 😄
Not the best place, but some people already started adding manufacturer information to the zigpy wiki: https://github.com/zigpy/zigpy/wiki
Maybe a "unstable Zigbee devices" page could also fit in somewhat
as much as ilove the blakadder zigbee site, it doesnt do much to say how WELL a device works w zha
although thats generally how i check if a zigbee device works
and then maybe do a little research on the zigpy or zha githubs
Yes, they need a "This device will break your mesh" warning
https://peterkieser.com/2023/05/08/zigbee-devices-you-dont-want-on-your-network/ so far I just have 2 + a LinkTap.
Some OSRAM and Tuya gear is also known to break stuff
is there any aeotec multisensor 7 zigbee alternative to have all 6 sensors?
Why does my Zigbee network just die and fall apart over time?
I have a SkyConnect
or bulbs-as-routers
I live in a house with a fair bit of distance from my neighbors, and all my wifi hotspots are using channels on the other side of the channel spectrum
SkyConnect is on a USB extension cable?
And why does it work fine, and then die. And unplugging and replugging the SkyConnect seems to fix it for a day or two
Yes
Like, it's fine until it isn't, and then I have to prod every device to get HA to rediscover them again. I don't really know what to do.
Sounds like its crashing, lol.
Grab a debug log of this happening: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/zha/#debug-logging
My zigbee2mqtt addon stoppod worming today, it wont start anymore
TypeError: Cannot read properties of null (reading 'length')
at AdapterNvMemory.init (/app/node_modules/zigbee-herdsman/src/adapter/z-stack/adapter/adapter-nv-memory.ts:28:42)
I didnt touch my HA instalation at all today (or for past few weeks) has there been some breaking changes lately?
What coordinator?
?
Ah, let me check, i have used this one for years
If you say CC2531 then you're overdue for an upgrade
how so?
The CC2531 and CC2530 sticks are cheap for a reason. They're fine for testing, but do yourself a favour and buy something better.
What something better? Anything CC2652 based (see here for some) or the current generation EZSP (see here for some).
The Sonoff ZBbridge isn't advised since it uses WiFi, and the HUSBZB-1 uses an older chipset so should be avoided.
The CC253x chips crash under load, and sometimes their NVRAM corrupts at random requiring a re-flash
Load can be as little as half a dozen devices
Ah, gotta love random issues that come up years after making a nicely working setup🫠
Hmm, it seems that installing the homeassistant os update fixed it, it might have been caused by the addon having autoupdated itself
The CC253x chips have been known to be poor for years now
Can i see the coordinator info from the webui, or do i need to get out of bed
All you get in the UI is the type and firmware version, which may be enough
Z-Stack 1.2 is a bad sign
Where in the ui can i find it
Z2M: Settings -> About
Zstack12 rev 20190223
That sounds horribly like a CC2531
There are three ways of fixing the problem:
- Remove it for 30 seconds and hope that's enough to clear the problem
- Re-flash the firmware
- Replace it with a CC2652 (other than Sonoff)
Option #3 is the best one
Tup, just checked the chip, thats it, but the issue was resolved by updating the hass os
Then it sounds like it was just a minor crash and the upgrade also reset the stick
I did try a reboot for few times
Reboot doesn't always reset the stick
Ah, i see
Oh well, time to wait and see if the issue comes up again, this is the first time i have had issues with the zigbee setup
I think i got the stick in like 2017-2018 and updated the firmware on it once in 2019 or so
@icy crane "config > top tab is visualization
in devices". Thanks for the reply - but I still can't find it!
Has anyone had issues with Eaton/Halo RL460WHZHA69 acting as a router?
I'm having a bunch of connectivity issues (devices falling off) with my Inovelli Smart switches and wondering if they are part of the problem
Forgot to mention - it would be great if it worked over the WAN if that's a thing I want it for my parents house. I'd like to use Z2M as well. Server at my house and dongle at theirs. Thank you for your help by the way
why not just run z2m at their house
Uhhhhhhh can I? Lol I want to run Home Assistant on my server lol
yeah you can run z2m there
and put in your z2m ip and credentials
just need to make sure traffic can be routed to it through the web
if youre runnning mosquito in ha and your ha is already exposed to the web, that part is already done
Ok perfect thank you
sorry im not actually 100% sure how itworks, i might have got omse of that wrong. i use mqtt for a different service and i dont use z2m , but i think you just need to tell z2m where your broker is and it should manage the rest
If I also want to run Z2M for my apartment where the server is, can I as well?
Ahhh ok
you can run 2 (or more) instances of z2m
Is there an easy way to start using my lights on z2m coming from a Hue hub without having to rebuild all the light groups and stuff I have?
Started happening for me as well since around last week. I didn't try unplugging and replugging the SkyConnect, Rebooting the whole system from WebUI helps as well. (Restarting only HA or the Multiprotocol Addon is not enough)
If I want to run my Sonoff Dongle on my Pi while my HA is running elsewhere, is that possible to do? With ZWave I can just use ZWaveJS. I see there's a ZigBee2MQTT. I'm assuming I want that running on my pi?
Yep
Anyone have any experience with Centralite 3400 keypad? I've got it added to my ZHA network and I can use it to disarm my alarmo alarm as it broadcasts zha_event when 4 numbers are entered in succession (it sends disarm with the code) but all the other buttons seem to send no zha_event at all and I can't find much meaningful information elsewhere
I'm not sure if I can do anything about it, and it does what I actually cared for it to do for $18 vs $70 for one of the currently built keypads. It would just be OK if I could arm it on the way out the door, but my automations do the arming in general so can live without
there is a sequence for the key presses. I am in the office today and I don't recall off the top of my head... you also should have an alarm control panel entity that should be fully functional
it did create an alarm entity with all the states, it doesn't change state on button press but maybe you're right maybe it's a sequence thing i'll try to find documentation for the keypad itself, I've tried various combinations but fair
hmm, although it does update the keypad
the keypad lights up for like "away" when I change that alarm state, interesting
is there something to track/log/whatever (idk the correct term here) outgoing events to devices? Curious to see what kind of event is being sent to the keypad to set those lights when the state of the alarm entity changes
guess those are still zha_events
Hi, I have reinstalled HAOS and restored a backup. Zigbee works in Zigbee2Mqtt, but not in fronend, and I can't remember where to start look for issues. Can someone please assist or hint?
It also looks like sensors work in Z2M, but does not trigger any scripts as they should, so some form of disconnect...
That sounds like MQTT related problems
Oh, well. it begun with Mosquitto wasn't started, so after doing that, Z2M also started
Have you checked that HA is talking to the same broker?
No... Where should I do that?
oh. seems to be DNS... HA has some defaults not playing nice with my setup...
HA's log file?
Yes, log is always good to
But this is strange... 'ha dns info' shows my expected one. Still Ha wants 1.0.0.1 @ 853...
is this configured elsewhere too?
I certainly don't have that...
Thanks, will listen with them. 🙂
Can a Hue light be connected to the Hue bridge and Zigbee2MQTT at the same time or can it only be part of one network?
Only a single network (although maybe you can control it with Bluetooth?). Why do you want it on both?
I'm configuring zigbee2mqtt. I want to run it in docker compose. In the docs it points me towards configuration.yaml to update before building docker. In there it has the location of the adapter. If I'm running in a container should I update that value, or instead just map the device to that value when I run my container?
In there it should be the path inside the container
For instance, you may map /dev/serial/by-id/blah-blah-blah-blah to /dev/zigbee
Okay. So if in my docker-compose I've got - /dev/serial/by-id/usb-ITead_Sonoff_Zigbee_3.0_USB_Dongle_Plus_8064770-if00-port0, should that match what's in data/configuration.yml?
Ahh, need to install mosquitto. Does it make sense to run that in Docker as well?
It does
I'd do
- /dev/serial/by-id/usb-ITead_Sonoff_Zigbee_3.0_USB_Dongle_Plus_8064770-if00-port0:/dev/zigbee
``` and use the path of `/dev/zigbee` in `configuration.yaml`
Oh that's a good idea.
So I've got mosquitto running on port 8883. Hopefully correctly. In my configuration.yml for zig, I'm assuming I can't just do server: mqtt://localhost:8883
No
but if your container is named mosquitto you could do mqtt://mosquitto:8883
(or 1883)
Hm, that didn't work. Still getting
Zigbee2MQTT:error 2023-05-09 14:29:19: MQTT error: getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND mosquitto_container
Just trying to make it easier keep hue up and running until I get the setup completed on z2m
Okay, once my zigbee docker container is working, should I be able to log into a web portal to view it?
Hey All. I have a Nortek HUSBZB-1 which is being identified however my Aqara magnet sensors are becoming unavailable. Log is showing one sensor became unavailable shortly after midnight. Any pointers / direction / help would be greatly appreciated.
What Zigbee routers do you have?
Are people running their mosquitto/zigbee setups with certificates? I think that's what is giving me issues.
I'm not, can't be bothered
Do you mind sharing snippets of your mosquitto conf then? The guide/doc I found uses certificates and I think that's why I'm having issues.
persistence true
persistence_location /mosquitto/data/
password_file /mosquitto/config/pwfile
allow_anonymous false
log_dest file /mosquitto/log/mosquitto.log
listener 1883
optionally add an acl_file, but at this stage it'll just complicate things
anyone have any recommendations for cheap but good zigbee color bulbs and switches?
Need to change Zigbee Channel as 15 is at 83%, has anyone here done it? Do you have to reset the entire network? Can i restore a backup etc? I dont dare try myself
Are you using ZHA or Z2M?
If you're using ZHA and are on the latest HA version, you can use this: #zigbee-archived message
A UI will be added to do this properly (possibly with 2023.5.3 or 2023.6.0).
When using that method, most mains-powered devices will stay on the network and migrate properly.
Most end-devices you'll likely have to re-pair (though some move over).
If your door sensors are anything like my sonoff ones, the batteries get jostled when the door closes and causes them to disconnect. Mine were falling off the network until I secured the batteries a bit with a wedge of aluminum foil
Thank you, I'll give that a try.
Ugh, I'm hitting this error now in Mosquitto
1683672266: Opening ipv6 listen socket on port 1883.
1683672266: Opening ipv4 listen socket on port 1883.
1683672266: Error: Address in use```
Googling around seems to imply it happens when you don't have `listener` defined in your conf file, but I do. It almost seems like the docker container is launching multiple instances.
You have some other program or another instance of program running
Hey i was told this belongs here?
I got a Problem with the Aqara vibration sensor (DJT11LM):
I use it to detect if i am Moving my office chair. Works pretty much as i would like it to. Detects Movement just enough so i can do stuff with it. THEN a few days go by and it stops reacting to normal movement and i have to hit it HARD to react. When i removed the battery and got it back in it started acting normal for a day or so and then getting back to being useless.
I use zigbee2mqtt
Did you try a new battery?
It´s a new device and it tells me the battery that came with it is at 90% but i can do that.
New devices may have been on the shelf for a year or two, and the batteries may have been old before that
New cell is in. If the problem reappears i will report back. Thx for now.
I migrated a 181 device network a while back and didn't have to repair much. Maybe 5 devices IIRC. Even Xiaomi stuff came over. I had to press the button once on several of them but they all came over.
Will a Tuya zigbee 3.0 water valve work with my zigbee network out of the box or is there something proprietary with Tuya that requires modification?
the ones that move the valve handles don't actually do any tuya nonsense and are pretty much compliant end devices. I just had one where the motor burned out (I assume) . The spare I had in the bin turned out to be wifi so I had to improvise. https://home.social/@tubeszb/110330100776422246
Is anyone aware of any major vulnerabilities in zigbee2mqtt currently?
One of my machines appears to have had a user-level compromise and the entrypoint was zigbee2mqtt.
Admittedly it shouldn't have been outside/WAN facing in the first place (which would have negated the issue as they'd have never been able to reach it in the first place, but the firewall didn't come back up due to a chain of events).
The UI was disabled as far as I'm aware. Basically a file was uploaded to /tmp and then executed.
It could have been though given the "incomplete" state of things on there.
Well, if the UI was disabled then only MQTT would have been available to interact with Z2M
Which would mean that either the UI wasn't disabled, or it wasn't Z2M
(or you exposed MQTT)
Even if the UI wasn't disabled, that shouldn't have allowed for arbitrary upload and execution purely from within the MQTT UI.
Oh... I'd agree
the UI does allow file upload though, by design
Execution is scary, and I'd encourage you to report the issue so that the bug can be found and squashed
Damn, 2FA on my GitHub. I'll have to report it later. I've done something of an autopsy on what was left so I can dump that in too.
I'll certainly be interested in following the progress, this kind of thing is both scary and an opportunity to learn
Whatever it was doing, it actually kept knocking my entire internet connection offline the last few days. Maybe my ISP trying to negate whatever attack it was sending back out perhaps, fun.
Has your valve worked ok overall? I'm looking for a good water shut off valve and don't mind buying nicer if it's better but I'm having a hard time finding options.
yes I've been happy with them. Have one in the crawlspace and don't think I've have to visit it at all since installing.
Hey, I'm not very sure I should ask that in this channel, sorry for that.
I have ikea tradfri lights (working very well with my automations) but when I try to change a white color to another color it'll flashes once at full brightness for no reason. And when I change from a color to a white color it flashes down.
That's very weird and I only have that on home assistant (scenes, automations, manually, ...). When I try to change from white to a color or vice versa using the zigbee2mqtt interface it works perfectly. Does someone know why this happens ? Firmware problem ?? Thanks a lot!
So I just bought a sonoff ZBDongle-P; when connected to HA it popped up automatically and all working. However, my tcv is missing a lot of entities. So i wanna try z2mqtt
but i get Error: Failed to connect to the adapter (Error: SRSP - SYS - ping after 6000ms)
Did you remove the Zigbee Home Automation integration?
If the container is privileged it may still have access to the radio. Either remove or disable ZHA.
it is priviliged yes
damn, you are right
i totally forgot about the priviliged....
thanks
great.. exactly my rgb bulb is not supported 😦
can you rstart zigbee2mqtt while a ota is happening
Trying to get mosquitto set up in docker. I'm generating my username/password using mosquitto_password like the docs say, however when I bring the container up I get Error: Invalid password hash for user admin, removing entry., should I not be generating it that way?
I have a problem using some tuya enabled smart plug. First config went OK in zha, however removed the devices and wanted to add them again in different config. However trying to add second time results in frozen initialization. Some research shows it is white label of the PLUG-001SPB2 device. Seems like the plug is not sending out endpoints for discovery after first init anymore. Anyone know how to get these plugs initialized again?
You can, and it shouldn't cause problems - most devices handle failed OTAs cleanly
But ... it may not, and you may brick it
thnx, it's now almost finished only 7 minutes left
i didnt know it would take 2 to 3 horus
hours*
I have tons of repeating errors apparently all related to Samjin plug in outlets (ZB 3.0 sold by SmartThings) - at first I thought it was something with my system but when I noticed that all the IDs I checked are for the same type of outlet, I started to wonder whether something changed in ZHA causing this issue... https://pastebin.com/mkLjJewX
I cannot get my tuya zy-m100 sensors to work with zha or zigbee2mqtt.
In zha they just show 2 entities that are not enabled. In zigbee2mqtt they show they aren't supported even though they are.
Had to switch to zigbee2mqtt edge to get it to work.
@muted pelican I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
The error says that requests to those device failed because the connection to the coordinator is broken, which is the underlying problem. It doesn't have anything to do with the exact devices.
@muted pelican there were no ZHA changes between 2023.4.4 and 2023.4.6 that would affect radio operation. Are you running Home Assistant OS?
I've disabled some (custom) integrations (Twinkly, Miele, DSM and Mikrotik) and now it's working again on 2023.5. Yes, I'am running HA-OS, version 9.5 because I had with 10.1 bluetooth issues with Mi Flower. Maybe this is fixed too, but did not upgraded again.
connection to coordinator broken as in rf interference impeding communication or a uart/usb issue? A new neighbor configured his wifi on ch 9 which is right on top of zb ch 25 that I use however other than that error, things appear to be working ok (things weren't but I placed a metal shield beteen the coordinator and the outer wall facing the neighbour which seems to be helping). The samjin outlets always caused errors related to power reporting btw.
WiFi 9 is clear of Zigbee 25
For Zigbee and WiFi coexistence see this article and image:
@sour shadow ah, I got confused with ch20 which is where I was before moving to 25 a few months ago. Ok, then I guess it is not interference as the most powerful wifi ch11 is mine and it is on the opposite side of the house set at only 14dBm, all the other (closer) APs are on 1 and 6. Oh, and yes... I am using a USB 2.0 extender cable on a USB 3.x port (only type on this device). I also tested a USB isolator but it did not seem to help.
have you checked debug logs to see if the report interference
one of my biggest pet peeves about zigbee is definitely how poorly so many devices do at reporting battery https://imgur.com/a/wxwD3NQ
Hello all. i simply cannot migrate my ZHA drom my current GoControl HUSBZB to my new SkyConnect. i followed the guide on the SkyConnect website and i am seeing screens not in the migration guide and then it fails to connect in the end. i have screenshots
this is the final error
damn can't post screenshots i guess in here
If you were talking to me... yes, I am also getting an occasional "your zigbee channel utilization is 70-9x%" so I did all I could think of to address it but I still get the message. The coordinator is on a side of the house, and since I can't move it, I tried to add a shield to block any potential interference from a neighbor on that side. I was playing around with higher gain antennas, but reverted to the one that came with the sonoff zigbee dongle. I am looking to acuire a better usb 2.0 extension (better shielding, etc) as the only ports I have are 3.0 and 3.2. I have 5 APs, and only one is on channel 11 (closest to zigbee 25) and it is the furthest one. I also set it to a low 14dBm.
Yeah, I find it annoying too... you will need to upload it to imgur (for example) and share the link.
No, it's with the UART. Either the firmware crashed, or something with your VM setup (if you're running one) caused it to disconnect. But it's not something that can be fixed with shielding.
Can you post the screenshots?
note: you can upload screenshots to third-party sites like https://imgur.com/ for example
here is the error https://i.imgur.com/jPhLx9k.png
i also see this screen early in the migration process that i did not see in the migration guide... not sure if it means anything https://i.imgur.com/xQsMAlE.png
This means that ZHA can't auto-probe your radio, which means that its serial port probably isn't working
How are you running HA? Docker? The OS in a virtual machine?
its a ESXi VM and i have 2 other sticks passing through just fine and i can see the skyconnect listed in the hardware
So probably a passthrough issue
ESXi see's it and i see it listed in the VM and when i go to the hardware then all hardware section in HA it listed
The USB portion may be passed through correctly but if the serial port isn't, this is what happens
but why is HA reporting it in the Hardware if its not being seen?
HA sees that a USB device is plugged in and the USB device is reporting a specific model and manufacturer. When ZHA actually tries to talk to the device's serial port, however, nothing is sent back. It's a common issue with passthrough.
so its an issue with my skyconnect stick then? i have sonoff dongle-p and my gocontrol husbzb that are not having issues and are plugged in the same way
its even seen when i try the migration process https://i.imgur.com/ZinN1vm.png
Very unlikely. You can confirm the SkyConnect is functional by plugging it into another computer and loading up the web flasher: https://skyconnect.home-assistant.io/firmware-update/
ok i will try that i guess. just odd that i have 3 sticks plugged in and only that one is having an issue. but i will try to flash it
@fallow tide - Curious to know your findings as I too am using a VM (Proxmox) and while my Zwave stick seems to work without issues, my Sonoff Zigbee stick is reporting UART issues. I'll follow puddly's guidance and look into passthrough as well along with replacing my extension cable with a better quality one just in case.
so i plugged the skyconnect into my PC and the flasher will not find it either
As in it's not detected?
Or the serial port doesn't show up?
Make sure you have the driver for it installed: https://www.silabs.com/developers/usb-to-uart-bridge-vcp-drivers?tab=downloads
ok i had to add the driver and now the flasher is seeing it
do i actually flash it?
there is an option to change firmware
What is currently installed?
says Multi-PAN (RCP) 4.2.3 Home Assistant Skyconnect
And that would be the problem 😄
what is the problem?
The SkyConnect ships with Zigbee firmware. If you used it with the multi-PAN addon, you need to flash it back to normal Zigbee firmware, because the multi-PAN addon installs multi-PAN firmware
so i should choose change firmware and choose one? there 4 options to choose
Yeah, flash it back to Zigbee firmware if you aren't going to be using multi-PAN
3 and upload your own
- what is multi pan, do i need it? 2) if i choose zigbee will it still do matter when i need it to?
sorry for all the questions... just trying to understand and make the right choice
No worries. You must have enabled multiprotocol support in the Hardware menu at some point, because that's the only way to flash multi-PAN firmware to the SkyConnect. It lets the SkyConnect manage both a Zigbee network and a Thread network (for Matter). This requires special firmware, which is what the addon installs, but the firmware makes the SkyConnect incompatible with ZHA directly: you can only use it with the multi-PAN addon.
If you don't need to run multi-protocol, just flash it back to Zigbee firmware and it'll work as you expect. You can try multiprotocol again at a later time.
ok. thanks
so.... last question for now i hope..... i am flashing it back to Zigbee as you suggested, what will happen if i buy say, an Eve plug that uses matter. will i need to do something to it again?
Matter can work over both WiFi and Thread. If it's a WiFi device, you won't need to do anything, because it never would have connected through the SkyConnect. If it's a Thread device and you have no other Thread border routers (I think Apple HomePods, some Google devices, etc.), you'll need either a second stick for Thread, or go back to the Hardware menu and re-enable the (beta) multiprotocol feature
ok. i dont have a matter device but i assume they are coming and i will probably get one eventually
now my HA wont start
wait.... terminal says it didnt start but i can access HA on another page... very odd
by the way.... the migration to Skyconnect failed again too. same errors and same screens
Do you have the multiprotocol addon running?
no
Double check. If not, then this is 100% a passthrough issue, because the web flasher talks to the SkyConnect in exactly the same way as ZHA
And just to be 100% sure, you flashed the "Zigbee" firmware?
yes
the multiprotocol addon is called just that i am guessing? cause i do not see it
It's called "Silicon Labs Multiprotocol"
Hello, I want to add a Sonoff ZBDongle-P (shows us "Silicon Labs CP210x UART Bridge", on Ubuntu)
to my HA running on a raspberry pi 4 on a docker container
Zigbee :bee: - please remember to mention whether you're using zha (https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/zha), zigbee2mqtt (https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io), or deCONZ (https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/deconz). If you're using some hub, we probably can't help you though - try the #integrations-archived channel instead.
Looking for devices? See https://zigbee.blakadder.com/ and https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/information/supported_devices.html.
Wanting advice about what stick? Look in the pinned messages. Just don't buy anything CC2530 or CC2531 based.
The links for ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT are there
ZHA is part of HA, Zigbee2MQTT is separate and requires an MQTT broker
Thanks again
Your stick will work with either of those
What would be the best for someone without any config experience with Zigbee ?
definatley do not see that addon installed
I have several zigbee devices but I use all of them through their apps or connected to a hub
Either - it's really whether you want it all in one (ZHA) or you like things seprate (Zigbee2MQTT)
Ok. I will start reading about each and come back better prepared.
If you're new to all of this then ZHA is the easier route
Cool. I will start there
@austere patio i was looking in the wrong place... the addon was still installed. i uninstalled it and restarting HA
So the addon auto-flashes the multi-PAN firmware every time it starts (if it detects the wrong firmware is installed)
will try again after it restarts
You'll have to go back to the web flasher and re-flash the Zigbee firmware again
You can't hotplug it?
unfortunatley... for some odd reason if i do that the "VM" no longer sees it till i do a full reboot
will do it later
Just bought a sky connect and swapped it with my SONOFF P. I'm just starting off moving all my IoT to zigbee but it seems the sky connect has a much reduced range compared to the sonoff, it's not reaching my devices from my network closet like the sonoff did but will if I move the pi closer. They both say the radios are 20dbm but the sonoff has a much larger antenna. Has anyone else noticed a reduced range from the sky connect?
how close is your skyconnect to any device that has a usb 3 port as well as other 2.4ghz interference
i noticed that the skyconnect was slightly more susceptible to that interference, but half a foot farther way aws enough to fix it
Yeah the pi is connected to an external drive and there's also a wifi AP in the closet. But I've checked and the channels for wifi and zigbee shouldn't be interfering
I'll try and move it as far away as possible from those
its on an extension cable, right?
also did you migrate the network or re-pair your devices. if you have router type devices, it's possible that your more distant devices aren't routing through them but were before
How do I create scenes with Zigbee groups? They seem to be created as an entity instead of a light and for some reason scenes only give me the option to pick devices.
I have noticed that using the entity with all of my ZB lights in a chandelier controls them all simultaneously, however I am struggling to use the group entity other than manually
Found it, had to tick advanced options in my profile!
Is there a decent zigbee alternative to the ikea symfonisk remote e1744 in a similar form factor?
Aaaaand now it stopped working completely. Zigbee2mqtt SAYS it was seen last 2 Minutes ago but it does not register any changes. Not shock nor tilt. Battery is completely fresh.
Oh and taking the battery out didn´t help this time so it seems to be a new problem...
I have a aqara d1 3 gang w/ neutral switch, but when i add it via zha,
the main switch is classified under switch (lumi.switch.n3acn3) but the buttons are classified under lights (light.lumi_lumi_switch_n3acn3_light_2)
im also issues automating the turn on via call service in node red (but i can turn the switches on from dashboard manually)
anyone encounter this kind of issues before ?
Is there a decent zigbee alternative to
Howto configure the 4 gang scene switch manufacturer”: “_TZ3002_jnspjt9a”, “model”: “TS0024” to home assistant I have a similar switch Zigbee Model :TS0004, Zigbee Manufacturer :_TZ3000_ublqrn3p. they work fine. could someone help me with my problem pls
I am using zigbee2mqtt
Is the switch correctly identified in Zigbee2MQTT?
I is added but unsuported
I am to dumb please guide me through I don't know how to code or understand code.
Nobody is dumb, you just haven't learned yet
However, that guide covers it... hundreds, if not thousands, of people have followed that guide to get devices supported
The Z2M Discord can likely help you better - but usually you start with an existing converter
Ok thank you
How many zigbee routers do I potentially need(minimum) to get from 1 side of the house 1 floor higher and then 10m across the hallway? (4m to the left, 2m straight up to start of the hallway, 10m across the hallway and 3m right into the room).
I got Sonoff dongle E, gonna get 2 switches as routers and PIR sensor on the other side of the house
Depends on the nature of the walls and floor, the angles involved, and more
At least one, maybe 2 or 3, maybe even more
I have 2 devices about 12 meters apart that can communicate directly (though the signal isn't very strong). I have another 2 devices about 1 meter apart that can't see each other at all.
normal brick walls and it's literally just 1 wall to the hallway where I plan to put switch (like 6m from dongle) and from there is straight 10m (no walls) to the living room with another smart light switch
Probably you'll find it'll work from dongle to switch to light switch...
my wifi adapter next to the sonoff dongle captures super, super low 2,4ghz wifi signal from the living room AP
so I think those 2 should be more than enough
Doesn't mean much, WiFi is a lot higher power than Zigbee
true but isnt distance kinda similar
No
Distance is a factor of frequency and power - if you reduce the power you reduce the distance
oh, ok good to know 👌
Hey,
i have a question, how can i add a zigbee device like "Bosch Thermostat II" to zha with the install code? Or works it only with zigbee2mqtt for now? I swapped my system from iobroker to HA.
Check out the zha.permit service call parameters
Thank you, found it. 👍
Hello! I'm trying to add my zigbee dongle to my docker compose instance. Having some trouble.
The devices attr in the compose yaml:
devices:
- /dev/serial/by-id/usb-ITead_Sonoff_Zigbee_3.0_USB_Dongle_Plus_12345id-if00-port0:/dev/zigbee
But I get a Error response from daemon: error gathering device information while adding custom device "/dev/serial/by-id/usb-ITead_Sonoff_Zigbee_3.0_USB_Dongle_Plus_12345id-if00-port0" no such file or directory
I've file-browsed there and verified the path and that device is listed. Using /dev/ttyUSB0 gives the same error (even though udevadm shows it being registered to that port)
Is there something I'm missing?
hello... so still working on a migration issue going from a gocontrol dual stick to skyconnect. so after all the trouble i had yesterday, i did the migration today and it went through all the steps and said it finished. however i still see the ZHA showing my old stick
ok... it seems i still needed to delete the ZHA integration and then re-add it back
If you delete the integration you will lose all of your entity customization. You can just rename it.
Figured it out... I installed docker via the docker desktop (Ubuntu). Had to install the standalone CE version and now it's working
Was it a snap?
snap? like easy?
Wasn't too bad. Just a lot of copy/pasting 😂
probably snap as in https://snapcraft.io/
ah, no, I've never heard of that before
morning guys. Just got a TubesZB POE Router, I am quite new to zigbee, but the idea is to expand the coverage through the house via this device. Home assistant recognizes it, also ESPHome, but I cant add it to Zigbee2MQTT any ideas how can I achieve this ? Would like to have it visible in Zigbee2MQTT together with the rest of devices or am I doing something wrong ?
Hello everyone, where can I ask for new hardware support ( this one https://shop.smarthome-europe.com/en/peripheriques/4937-heiman-zigbee-smart-doorbell-button-without-chime.html )
It should join as long as you enable joins and power it up. It tends to do look to join quickly so have joins enabled first.
Hello All,
i bought levolo touch switches (with zigbee) But they wont connect to HA unfortunate.
I use Z2M and paste the code in my config.yaml. How can i get these things to work?
Tried your suggestion but it doesnt show up. I start the add new device in z2mqtt and then plug the cable to the Tube but no luck. Should I reset it to its defaults somehow ?
you can reset it by popping the case lid open and tapping the BSL button while powered on.
you should see a led lit when powered as well - this is turned on by the firmware when it boots.
Thanks! 🙂 Awesome little piece of equipment you have done! 🙂
thanks
I have a really basic question about ZHA, since I've only used zigbee2mqtt so far, and used that knowing very little about HA in general: if I use ZHA for my Zigbee devices (all Philips Hue), do I have to create automations for every single thing (like controlling lights with a dimmer switch)?
For z2m I used NodeRed but if I can get off of that I would
Yes, the Zigbee integration doesn't automatically create automations (how would it know which devices connect where?)
So I'd need four automations per switch?
Depends on the switch but probably
That seems unworkable
You can use blueprints too
(to support every feature I think it would be... 12?)
it seems like someone would've done this already
One way or another you need to tell HA what to do
Yeah, that much is clear - I thought it might have some "wiring up" functionality, there's bizarrely little info on what ZHA looks like or does
That's pretty vague. You need to start with what you want to do
What's 'wiring up'?
Think NodeRED, if you've seen that
You can use that if you want
Hello! I am having hard time with my Z2M setup using SONOFF p dongle. Would someone have some time to discuss some troubleshooting steps Please?
Don't ask to ask, just ask your question. Then people can answer when they're around.
When you do ask a question, try to provide as much background detail as possible. Ask yourself these questions first so that others don't have to:
- What version of the Home Assistant are you running? (remember, last isn't a version)
- What exactly are you trying to do that won't work?
- Is the problem uniform or erratic?
- What's the exact error message?
- When did it arise?
- What exactly don't you "get"?
- Can you share sample code, ideally with line errors where the error occurs?
I'd prefer not to, I think
If you want HA to do anything then that requires automations or tools like Node Red
Not to have to write 12 automations to handle one switch, but it looks like the magic word is "blueprints"
I think blueprints fit the bill
I am having low LQI with several devices already integrated. I have my p dongle flashed with coordinator software. I am unsure if I am getting 20dbm TX power m. I set it under advanced in yaml file. Did someone here encounter same issue?
You generally do not want to mess with TX power because it will have no impact on LQI
I am really close to those devices and I am stuck on mid 60s LQI
Do the devices otherwise work?
Like 2m no walls, my 2.4ghz Wi-Fi is set to 20mhz channels and is set to channel 11, my zinbee dongle is on channel 11 too
That's not really bad
They work fine but LQI is low
Don't worry about optimizing LQI, if they work they work
Would you recommend staying with coordinator firmware then?
I heard about flashing it as router in case of p-dongle
If you flash it as a router it's not a coordinator any more
That would destroy your zigbee support
Also... if it works, don't break it
You can flash a second stick as a router and put it in the middle (and hope devices pick it/force them to by rebooting them or rejoining them to the network), but you can do the same by just buying more mains-powered Zigbee devices. I wouldn't worry about LQI, you can have devices with near-zero LQI that still work.
Sure, thanks for the insight. Is there a way to rebuild the network by force?
My issue is I have the p-dongle in garage where my rack is and it picked up a smart socket along the way but it doesn’t seem to extend further
I have smart blinder switches and those seem to be only picked up when I brought my home assistant host machine to the house for tests
Do you have any other routers?
I was hoping for the smart plug 10m away from rollers that is acting as a router to pick that up
Yes I do
On map the plug shows up as a router
And it’s not far away from blinder switches
Those would not adopt into network without me bringing the host machine to living room
Did you join the rollers in exactly the place they will end up sitting, or near the coordinator?
Those are immovable. I have those switches in wall conduit boxes and coordinator is living in garage rack. I had luck adopting them only after I brought the dongle with host to living room next to them
That’s why I was obsessed with TX power and LQI
Right. When you do that, the blinds pick the stick as their parent. Once you move the parent away, they may stop working.
I thought that I had interference issues with my 2.4ghz Siri
Let me share my map real quick
I am afraid I can’t send it in here
Please use imgur or other image sharing web sites, and share the link here.
Image posting is blocked in most channels to discourage people from sharing text as images. Sharing text as images assumes that everybody sees the world as you do, which isn't the case. Some people are colour blind, or have visual impairment that means they can't make sense of an image of text.
10 meters is pushing it
This would be current topology
I can see the smart plug has independent connection to blinder switches
Is there way this is going to work after I move the host back to garage? It had connection as a parent to the smart socket
Moving stuff around pretty much ensures it won't work
If you can't pair it in place then it doesn't have a strong enough signal there
Just a sec
My point I am trying to pass is
I know the host can see the socket from garage
And socket sees blind switches
But those wouldn’t integrate
When host was in garage, didn’t come up when I enabled joining and had them in pairing mode
But I can see router connection from socket to those now, and I will have the connection to socket
I will add more devices but I am wondering if socket is going to be routing/bringing in this case
You can pair via a specific router device, it's hidden away somewhere in ZHA's settings
Well, it's not at all hidden in Z2M's settings, it's pretty obvious there
Okay gotcha, good to know then. Mind pointing me in right direction or to some resources on this?
For?
The options how to pair this and the setting
That's not what you want though
Coordinator?
You want to use the drop down to pick the router
Basically, force it to join via the nearest router
Okay gotcha, much appreciated
Hello, I am new to home automation and thinking about buying some more devices so that I can get into it more. If I get a USB Zigbee adapter, I was wondering if there is some way to disable the Zigbee radio with an automation? I know this is a bit of an odd request, but my parents are those people that think any type of wireless communication gives you cancer and keeps them from sleeping well, so I need a way to disable the radio at night.
- You can't
- You'd cause yourself problems doing that
- You've got bigger problems
Hopefully your parents never hear about this new invention called the radio
Well, unfortumately there is nothing I can do about the bigger problems lol. Ive been trying to convince them for so long that it doesn't matter that Ive given up long ago
I know the type, you're better off not bothering with any non-wired sensors
Can you even get wired sensors and smart switches and such?
It would be a whole lot more hastle that I am looking for, and also yes the price.
At this point I can get away with as much wireless stuff as I want during the day, but I have to have a routine in my router that disables all WiFi radios at night. So I was hoping that there would be a way to disable the radio from an automation, and then just plan on none of those devices working at night, which would be fine in most cases.
The problem is, you'd have to power down all the mains powered Zigbee devices too, and take the batteries out of the battery powered ones
Do they actually transmit anything if they aren't connected though?
Just shutting down the coordinator won't stop all the other devices continuing to broadcast
They'll be busy broadcasting at higher power trying to connect to the mesh
Ok, I guess that won't work then lol.
I mean... you've got three options here
- Move out
- Pay more
- Lie and hope never to be caught
I guess WiFi devices would work, as long as I can find devices that don't set up an AP mode once disconnected right?
Which things like Google Home devices do, and many others will
Battery life for WiFi sensors tends to be terrible
Yes, and yes. I have plenty of smaller devices that don't however, so not everything does. At least I could get some wired switches, like the Kasa ones, it would be better than nothing. (As long as I can make sure they don't go into AP mode first)
Hello, Hopefully this is the right channel for help. I just setup home assistant. So very new to every thing. I've been following a guide to get it setup. In the video it shows to add any zigbee devices using the conbee 2 stick, you just add it with add integrations and add zigbee device. In my research i saw / bought a aqara motion sensor. I tried to pair it that way but it wouldn't come up. I've found older videos that show i need to use deCONZ with aqara. in the video they just add it. but in the new version when adding deCONZ its asking for a name and port before I can add the software. And nothing i type seems to work. I'm also going with out a aqara hub as from what I read, my pi is the hub. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi, im selling my conbeeII. How do I remove my network information from it? Thanks
If you performed a radio migration with ZHA from the Conbee to another radio, it'll already be reset
Awesome! Thats exactly what I did.
Hi, I'm back with more basic questions. So, I've managed to migrate my Zigbee network from z2m to ZHA, but... the switches don't show up as switch entities, they show up as binary sensors and fire events when I push buttons
In the previous setup I could name the switches and lamps and use them as "normal" devices but I can't figure out how to do this here
Or rather, it works for the lights but not the switches
Oh, I see - it's not necessary!
Well, this is very cool and a lot easier than with z2m :)
(he said, dooming himself)
Hey guys, I bought one of these: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005221732091.html
Hoping to add it to my HA, and while I can add it it doesn't have any entities, I can't figure out how to see the temperature and humidity: https://i.imgur.com/AvCckx3.png
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
I'm in the process of migrating from an SD card to an SSD and I'm facing a few issues. Upon restoring from backup (same RPi4, same Sonoff Zigbee dongle, same HW overall except for the storage drive) I seem to be unable to talk to my ZigBee devices. I'm getting errors like this: https://pastebin.com/xM0Rq4Sn What's going on, how do I troubleshoot it?
Anyone knows what's hapenning?
Make sure you have the most current firmware on the stick
^ that or if you’re using a HUSBZB-1, there’s an issue with bellows that should be fixed in the next HA release (2023.5.3)
So I'm really new to HA and Proxmox (Installed yesterday) .... Since installing I've had this error message come up in my HA under integrations. "SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus V2 Zigbee Home Automation Failed to set up" Any ideas please? I thought it was a plug and play thing
What's in the log file?
@foggy niche When using Discord's Reply feature it defaults to pinging the person you reply to, which can get frustrating for the target. Use Shift + click on the Reply option, or click @ ON to @ OFF to stop this - on the right side of the compose bar.
You have to change this every time (thank the Discord devs for that).
Can anyone point me to information how to configure zigbee binding two devices when using ZHA?
Same here. My ZHA integration thru Sonoff Cordinator (tasmota) was working since 2 years. Suddenly it broke down today evening without changing anything. Any ideas?
Couldn't start EZSP = Silicon Labs EmberZNet protocol: Elelabs, HUSBZB-1, Telegesis coordinator (attempt 1 of 3)
What version of HA Core are you running?
I'm mainly looking to build my smart home around zigbee, with more then likely 100+ devices eventually, it will need to do everything from be able to dim the lights to close automatic curtains, will this work?
If you’re looking to build your home around it, buy a decent coordinator.
The Sonoff has QC issues - you may be fine buying that, or you may get something that fails randomly
As title says, I looked at the temperature graph of this sensor in my bath and saw a flat line for the readings, checked in Zigbee2MQTT and yep it’s reporting that this sensor was last seen 1 month ago. So now I’m just wondering: what are the troubleshooting steps for me to check up/try to discover
why it has last been seen that long ago,
what caused it to drop and not re-establish connection
how to “reset” it /what to do so it’s connected again and reporting its state and
what to do to prevent in the future from happening / get some kind of automation to report such behavior
From what I’ve seen it had 77% battery state a month ago and should have no problem to connecting to the Zigbee network as there’s an always plugged in smart plug right in the next room that acts as a router, and all the Zigbee smart bulbs in the rooms all around it seem to also work and respond fine
For (4) enable availability - https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/guide/configuration/device-availability.html#device-availability
For (3) just replace the battery and pair it - ideally via a nearby router rather than just letting it pick
For (2) the answer is usually either weak signal or interference
you think its battery ran out, even though it was reporting 77% before it stopped sending data?
does that happen, that the battery just dies from an almost full state (or the state was always reporting wrongly)?
the router should be ok, i paired it with a smart plug that right in the next room
Did you pair it to that plug, or just hoped that it would pick it?
Xiaomi devices pair via the first thing they hear from, regardless of signal strength
Other brands vary
the hope thing, i haven't explicitly do any manual pairing selection, just paired it in place
Yeah, so if it is a Xiaomi device you may have shot yourself in the foot there
yep, it was an Aqara temperature sensor (from Xiaomi)
Then the solution is to replace the battery and pair it via that router
Battery reporting on these devices is always suspect anyway
I had a Fibaro sensor that would report 100% right up until the battery died
hmm shame, I actually got the Aqara sensors because the consensus in the forums seemed to be that their battery seems to last a long time
They do, if you don't shoot yourself in the foot
hi, I am trying to install zigbee2mqtt on a container. Can someone tell me how do I determine the location of the zigbee adapter if I am using a networked adaptor instead of a USB one?
If that's one of Tube's he has docs that cover it
Tubes?
Tube's networked adapter
You didn't say which of the many many many options you bought...
Did their manual not give the port details?
they mentioned that You can use the hardware by Koenkk (Koen Kanters) https://github.com/Koenkk/Z-Stack-firmware/tree/master/coordinator or by Egony (Alex Egony
this link leads to a github page: https://github.com/Koenkk/Z-Stack-firmware/tree/master/coordinator?spm=a2g0o.detail.1000023.2.5f1b728fXFNZnS
Which doesnt give any indication of port details
They've also got a manual you can download
But if it behaves like Tube's then socket://ip_or_localdns_name:6638
Z2M won't start if it doesn't work
docker run
--name zigbee2mqtt
--restart=unless-stopped
--device=//12.18.1.21:6638
-p 8080:8080
-v $(pwd)/data:/app/data
-v /run/udev:/run/udev:ro
-e TZ=Europe/Amsterdam
koenkk/zigbee2mqtt
I used this to install and I got "docker: 6638 is not an absolute path."
To format your text as code, enter three backticks on the first line, press Shift+Enter for a new line, paste your code, press Enter again for another new line, and lastly three more backticks.
```yaml
example: here
```
Don't forget you can edit your post rather than repeatedly posting the same thing.
You only have to pass local devices through, not network devices. Just configure Z2M with the socket details
Oh, and use a compose file, your future self will thank you
how do I configure Z2M with socket details?
I still dont understand what is the correct path to the adaptor.
this link above has 2(a) and 2(b), I'm not sure which one I should follow
Maybe neither
Maybe just
serial:
port: 'socket://ip_or_localdns_name:6638'
``` as already shared above
I however don't use a network connected adapter. I also haven't read the manual for your device.
I have a working zigbee2mqtt instance working with my Home assistant OS install on another install. Is it possible to find the configurations there?
Is it also using the same kind of network connected coordinator?
Then yes...
how do I find this in HA OS?
I have no idea... I don't use HAOS... but probably
It's certainly visible in the HA add-on UI
so if I just copy the whole configuration.yaml file over, it should work and in the process also restore all my zigbee devices?
You also need all the other files
--name zigbee2mqtt \
--restart=unless-stopped \
--device=???????????? \
-p 8080:8080 \
-v $(pwd)/data:/app/data \
-v /run/udev:/run/udev:ro \
-e TZ=Europe/Amsterdam \
koenkk/zigbee2mqtt
so what should I put in device ? or should I remove it?
Ok. yes I am pasting this in docker compose. Thanks for your help!
I have a light fixture with 18 lamps, currently all sengled zigbee. I am struggling with how to effectively control them with HA and how to send a command that will fire on all lamps.
ZHA groups and helpers both seem to fire on 14-16 of the lamps but never all.
Complicating the matter is ideally having different intensity levels for each layer of lamps for aesthetic reasons.

I am having an issue with LIDL light, it's rebranded Tuya controller
It's TS0502A, after integrating it into Z2M it lost ability to change the warmth of the light
would you have any ideas how to troubleshoot this? and settings that might help?
There is color temp slider but it does not react to commands
Have you experienced any issues with the SONOFF SNZB-03, where it stops reporting its states or remains in a detected state?
not that device specifically but I've seen that in several zigbee devices (ZHA)
I have some of those Smartthings motion sensors that have been reporting the same temp for 2 months straight. Others that just stopped sending temp data, and most just work fine.
zibee2mqtt
That sounds like the normal experience
I've been using home assistant with the zha integration for a while now and am pretty happy with it so far, but I'm now running into mayor issues when trying to send too many zigbee messages in a short timespan. E.g. I'm trying to set up a night light automation, If the night light boolean is enabled my setup will set the brightness and color temperature input numbers, which have automations attached to dim the lights and set their color temperature. From what I can figure this should attempt to send 4 zigbee messages at the same time, which is apparantly too much as it will consistently fail to set the brightness of the last light in the automation. Am I missing something obvious here? 4 messages doesn't sound like it should be too much...
What coordinator are you using?
conbee II
(which seems to get recommended in a fair few places)
and it's on an USB extension cable too, as to not get too much interference
(and notably sending single messages works 100% of the time)
Can you download diagnostics and post this section?
@surreal river I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
What channel is your network on?
15, which is the default. suppose I ought to move it?
Channel migration didn't make it into the frontend this release but you can manually run the command with your browser's dev tools using the instructions in the message I'm replying to. auto will probably pick channel 20. Note that channel migration for Zigbee is not super reliable and it's possible that some of your devices will not migrate properly, requiring a reboot or a re-join to start working again.
alright fun stuff, lemme try that
I'm assuming I gotta give it a hot second to actually do anything?
It takes about 10-15s to broadcast it to all of the devices on the network
ah yeah there we go, channel 25, lets see if that improves things
all the lights seem to have migrated along so that's nice, didn't fix the issue unfortunately
So they're still not turning on and off reliably when controlled as a group?
that works fine iff I turn on/off a single group. If I turn on two groups, twice, then the second group only gets turned on once. which matters because of brightness settings etc
"Group" here being a light group, or a ZHA group?
And are you activating a scene, or just turning them on/off?
not using scenes
basically the automation flow is toggle boolean -> set brightness and color temperature numbers -> turn on 2 zha groups with color temp set, turn on the same 2 zha groups with brightness set
adding a sleep between setting the brightness and setting the color temp helps some, but still isn't reliable
The reason I ask is because Zigbee just has a limit on how many group commands (really broadcasts) can be sent at once. If you set the brightness, color, and state of a group of bulbs, that's three broadcasts. If you do it two or three more times, you'll exceed the network maximum and they'll just be dropped.
mhm
that's suboptimal
I don't think I'm bumping into that yet, but it's possible I suppose
If you can, enable ZHA debug logging, do your group stuff, and then disable it to download a log. Can you PM me the log or upload it somewhere (e.g. https://dpaste.org/ )?
sure thing, where do I poke it to do zha debug logging?
It'll be right below the "Download diagnostics" button
alright, gimme a sec
here you go: https://www.dpaste.org/NiBZi (hoping that doesn't contain anything sensitive :P)
TXStatus.NWK_BT_TABLE_FULL is the status code most of your broadcasts are failing with so it looks like you're hitting the limit.
Devices can be members of many groups at the same time so you may want to create a new group for specifically the devices you want to control. Or try sending requests to them as a normal light group, without broadcasts. You may have better luck with the latter after the channel change.
huh
well I'll go give that a shot tomorrow, it's getting late now. thanks for the help so far!
sort of tangential question: couldn't home assistant re-try when this happens?
When the broadcast table is full it probably won't make a difference (since the retries would fail, it takes seconds for the table to clear), but for sending requests to individual bulbs it should, this is something that will hopefully be fixed in the next major release
hm, I see
well thanks again in any case. if you never see me again your advice helped ;P
I am struggling with my HA + Zigbee setup. It usually works pretty great and then suddenly HA can not fetch or send data from Mosquitto it seems. I've connected an additional client to the MQTT topic and I can see data being sent from Zigbee2MQTT. When downloading the HA MQTT logs I can see that the device entity is state unavailable and restored. What should I check?
Have you checked HA's log file yet?
One very common error is for people to put something in the url field of Z2M's configuration that isn't actually a URL. Then HA throws an error and refuses to work with Z2M.
it worked for over a week and suddenly I can not access my Zigbee2Mqtt devices. No errors at all in HA logs...
Open your Home Assistant instance and show your integrations
Go there, then to MQTT and Configure
You can listen to # to see if it's receiving messages
yup that works.
And you've actually checked the logs for the message I linked?
yeah no entries in the logs. What is strange though that when I turn on/off the light in Z2M the message does not pop up in HA but it does show up on my laptops MQTT client. What could be the reason behind that?
Well... that sounds like HA isn't seeing the message then
You've only got one broker?
yeah, only one broker
If I send a message on my laptops client it does show up on HA still using the same topic.
I do not have a url field in my Z2M. Could this be the issue? If so why does it work for some time then?
I assume you mean you haven't set it, which is a good thing
Hmmm what could be the reason why my laptops mqtt client receives the messages on the same topic but HA cant see them?
- Some form of ACL on the broker
- Different brokers
- Something's broken on HA
Rebooted the host and now we are back operational.... Strange issue...
Thanks for your support!
its the P version
Did you flash it with the latest firmware?
Please don't ask the same question in multiple servers at the same time in the future
Am I missing something or does Z2M groups only allow switches & lights? Tried to make a group of contact sensors but it wont add the devices to the group
That sounds right, groups are about control
I am running Z2M currently.
Right now using the sonoff dongle E.
Dongle P arriving soon to troubleshoot some issues. Any reason to not use the dongle E as a router?
So i’ll need to use helpers for binary sensor groups?
Yes
I think I have a problem with zha + Philips Hue Motion sensor SLM001. It becomes unavailable after two hours and does not come up again
The issue seems to be reported already: https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/89311
Has anyone experienced the same and has a solution maybe?
Hi guys, i had a skylinknet hub with there own communication channel. I need to replace contact and motion sensor. Tinker recommand me Zigbee stuff. Where i start ?
There are three Zigbee options with Home Assistant (regardless of how you install it). These are:
zha is actively developed as part of Home Assistant Core, using the zigpy stack, the UI also being part of Home Assistant. The EmberZNet based sticks are recommended (though the HUSBZB-1 uses an older chipset), but there are other options including the CC2652 based sticks. There is no list of supported devices, as any standards compliant device should work. Devices that require extra support are listed, and adding unsupported devices is documented.
Zigbee2MQTT is very actively developed and can run in an add-on, in a Docker container, and natively. As of 1.15 has a native UI, and it also uses MQTT for control and configuration. It supports mostly TI based sticks, with the recommended option being the [CC2652 based sticks](#zigbee-archived message). If you want to use an EmberZNet stick see this issue. The known working devices are well documented (which usually includes how to pair them so you don't have to find the manual), and adding unsupported devices is also documented.
deCONZ is relatively stable and mature with its own UI (and Discord server). It can run in an add-on, in a Docker container, or natively. Only the ConBee range of sticks and RaspBee GPIO boards are supported. Known working devices are documented, and how to request support for a new device is documented too (you can't add unsupported devices yourself).
Start there ☝️ with either ZHA (built into HA) or Zigbee2MQTT (separate)
How reliably can you reproduce this issue? If you want to try some config to potentially "fix" it, send me a PM.
If i use the Home Assistant SkyConnect stick and plug into my server on the basement, the range will be good for sensor at first level ?
Maybe, but that's why you buy Zigbee router devices
See https://blog.ceard.tech/2019/11/zigbee-and-home-assistant and https://blog.ceard.tech/2022/12/zigbee-tips - plus the various pinned messages
I would say 100% reliably. I will shoot you a message tomorrow/ thx!
Anyone have experience with the MOES (tuya) scene controllers? I just set one up and had to replace the battery suspiciously quickly and now that I have replaced the battery it seems to be stuck with just one light on all the time...
ZHA or Z2M?
ZHA
Please create an issue here: https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/issues/new/choose
Make sure to fill out the template and mention on what HA version you first paired that remote
I might have an idea what issue with the power drain is
I have a weird issue with Zigbee groups. I made three of them, one for each room. Two work normally. The third includes the lights I assigned it, plus those of another room/group, which I did NOT assign.
Group 1 is A,B; Group 2 is C, D; Group 3 is E, F, G, and then I assigned them to switches in an automation
The switch controlling A/B works normally. Ditto E/F/G. But the C/D switch controls C/D and A/B.
This is all using ZHA, migrated from z2m. If I use HA groups, it works as expected.
They may have been in the group previously and ZHA doesn’t know about them. Add the offending devices to the offending group and then remove them
I'll try that, thanks. Now that you say it, that sounds exactly like what might've happened.
looks like it re-used the group id
One more thing: I get a log warning that "Zigbee channel 11 utilization is 78.25%", but everything seems to work fine. I've googled around and found some scripts that would migrate to a different channel, though I have no idea
- if I should
- if yes, to which and
- if that means I'd have to re-pair everything manually, which is confusingly contradictory.
My instinct is to leave it be since it works and I have no intention to add further zigbee devices

Hello! I've got a couple of Aqara temperature sensors which are dropping off the network after a while (not sure of the exact time frame). Can anyone recommend steps to troubleshoot? I'm having trouble finding log data.
First thing I'd check is for WiFi interference, and then what device they're connecting to
I finally got the usb extension. Plugged it in and moved the hub away from my laptop. I am having the same issue as before. I get the zigbee aqara motion sensors detected but then they don’t detect motion
I tried reconfiguring and it said “The device reconfiguration failed. Additional information may be available in the logs.”
Do I need to be running any addons or anything? My zigbee ikea switch works no problem. I’m confused why the Aqara sensors connect but then don’t work #
Any help would be greatly appreciated
This means it failed to find the route to the controller I guess? How long does it take for the sensor to fall off?
I think aqara sensors are extra hard to pair, I have a few, is it the cylinder shape one?
Yes it is. Reconfiguring works now. I have no issue connecting them. It says motion detected at first but then after a minute it stops. I wave my hand in front of it and it never changes state
Is there a way to check if the sensor works outside HA? I have a sonoff dongle as my hub so I can’t get the aqaras app to work
Is there a better place I can go for help with setting up home assistant?
I've definitely updated HA since I paired the scene controller and I am not sure how to tell what version I was using back then.
Ah. The bug might have been fixed for your remote. What’s the model number? TS0041?
I’d remove the device from HA completely, (press some buttons, so it sees the leave request), then wait a bit and re-pair it
Hopefully, the battery drain shouldn’t continue after that
How would I check for WiFi interference? FWIW, I've got 10 LED lamps on Zigbee which are working just fine. I also have a couple of smart plugs which are intended to function as routers for the mesh; those seem to be working fine as well.
The temp sensors show that they're not connected to anything in the network map.
you could download wifiman (on android at least) and IIRC it will scan and show frequency utilization
Does anyone know if it's possible to capture all Zigbee traffic on all channels, with something like an rtl_sdr? I am trying to troubleshoot some Zigbee issues with Association Requests.
All of my ZigBee devices became unavailable all at once. I rebooted my entire machine but not sure what else to do. What are some troubleshooting steps besides restarting everything? I am using the HUZBZB-1 and ZHA. HA 2023.5.3
Can you check the model that ZHA/HA shows on the device page?
nope, I already removed the device. If that info would be in the diagnostics or other large chunk of info I added to the bug report template then there is still hope!
Ah, it’ll be included. Did you try re-pairing to see if that works?
you can reload zha, via the 3 dots which will restart the network.
Reload still shows unavailable on all ZigBee devices
check logs, enable debug logging for zha (same 3 dots). with more info easier to get help
What do I want the drop down in logs to be? There's no ZigBee/ZHA in there, even after enabling it, or am I in the wrong spot? I haven't used logs yet.
enable debug logging, reload then disable debug logging from same spot and you will be prompted to save. upload to dpaste or similar.
At this point I am still stuck on the scene controller not acting as I would expect when installing a new battery which I struggle to relate to HA. I am hoping that tuya tech support can help out, however so far they have just asked me to send them a video of the controller doing nothing and said they dont support HA and to use their app instead 🙄
I will pay someone to help me figure out why my aqara motion sensors are not working. Please I am desperate to figure this out and have had no luck searching the internet for hours
Just curious, when did this start and did you update recently?
I’m new to HA. I just got the sensors and it’s started since I’ve tried to hook them up
Reload ZHA or Home Assistant?
zha from that same menu
I have removed ZHA and readded it and that did not work. My ikea switches assigned to ZHA work no issues. It’s just these sensors
Ok, I'm doing this from my phone but it looks like, when I reload it automatically turns off debugging. The icon disappears and going back into the menu enable debugging is an option again. Does that sound right?
hmm I didn't know that. the zha docs have instrucitons on turrning the logging up via config change.
It automatically downloads a .txt without prompting is that what you want, or the json from tapping download diagnostics?
i noticed this behavior when testing something yesterday- wasnt sure if it was specific to just the integration i was using (homekit) but apparently not
Is it the txt file that's useful then? It's massive and I have no idea what I'm looking at
yes share the contents on dpaste and link here. not sure if I will be able to hep but will look.
it's talking to your radio okay and I'm not seeing anything that sticks out to me. maybe someone else will.
I have removed ZHA and readded it and
Ok thanks
Can someone please help. My aqara sensors connect to ZHA but do not work after setting up. They don’t detect motion. Log above
connection to the stick keeps breaking. what are you running HA on?
A laptop that I changed to HAOS
Which radio should I select? With my sonoff dongle https://imgur.com/a/XYRlKVA
ezsp
Data flow control hardware or software?
soft I believe.
I think due to some limitation aqara motion sensor are slower to trigger and takes longer to reset, did you wait at least 5 minutes in between before trying to trigger it again?
Anyone ever have a zigbee stick just die on them? I have one of the generic CC2531 sticks and all of a sudden at 3am all of my devices became unavailable
Tried this to no avail
Congrats you have a great reason to get a 2652 one
I mean I have no objection to moving to a different radio but do they really just die like that out of the blue?
I know CC2531 can be pretty cheap, I got one without case for ~$5 usd, so I will not expect it to be of very high quality. It is pretty weak as zigbee coordinator after all.
It’s not super common but yeah the sticks die
If you insist you can try connect it to serial and see whether it is due to firmware issue, etc. Recommend backup if possible.
Yeah I dont know it still shows up in the OS but all devices are unavailable. If I put a device into pairing mode I can get it to see the device and finish the interrogation but it immediately becomes unavailable
I have had no real issues with the stick for the year and a half I have been running in this configuration
That sounds like interference not a stick not working
If I am already using ZHA, is there any reason not to get a EFR32MG21 based dongle vs a CC2652P?
I understand Zigbee2MQTT does not play nice with the EFR32MG21
Personal preference / thread eventually
EFR32MG21 would be the one that supports thread right?
Some prefer the stability that 2652 provides (proven reliable for years)
And the different stack or whatever
Ezsp vs embernet I think
Just did a backup of my Zigbee USB stick but there are only 18 MAC addresses in the JSON file but the UI is showing 21 devices. Does the UI show devices that have been logged in HA as existing at some point or is it a live view of what it thinks is on the Zigbee Stick?
Not all devices will be in the backup.. that’s normal and fine
All the sticks support Thread with new firmware, this is the only one that can run both ZigBee and Thread on the same stick (with an addon).
What is the addon called?
It only works with the Yellow or the SkyConnect unless you manually find and flash firmware for your specific stick, setup the addon yourself, and migrate the network config: https://skyconnect.home-assistant.io/procedures/enable-multiprotocol/
at some point I'll put together a how-to for the non-yellow-skyconnect crowd. not in a rush though.
Hi, I have a fairly established ZigBee network using z2mqtt. 47 devices (14 router, 33 end devices). I'm checking the network map and there's a few strange routes being taken by some devices. For example:
- Some devices that are in the same room as the coordinator are actually routing via another device in a different room instead of connecting directly.
- Some devices that are really far from the coordinator are connecting directly to it rather than going via routers.
- In a few rooms, most devices are using the correct router (in between coordinator and room) but some devices are doing their own thing and connecting to a different router elsewhere. LQI for most devices is 25-150
Are these issues worth being concerned about? Do I need to force a 'rebuild' of the network?
You can’t force it to update routes across the mesh
That’s one thing I much prefer about zwave
Ah okay, so as long as everything is working it's better to just let it do its thing?
I read somewhere that you can disconnect the coordinator for ~30 mins and the network will be rebuilt after it comes back online.
I have a separate thread made with my issue with the aqara sensor if anyone is willing to help. Please it would be greatly appreciated
Does anyone know how to select which router to connect to with ZHA?
what do you mean? @crystal kite if you want to join a device through a specific router, you go to the router device's config page, and in the 3 dot menu is a option to join via this device.
I was told there is a way to change which zigbee router you connect to. The issue with my aqara sensor might be because of the router. I’m trying to connect it through my ikea switch as the router. When I click the 3 dots I don’t see an option to join via the ikea switch https://imgur.com/a/gR6458l
@molten linden
that's a battery powered end device. only mains powered devices can be routers in the mesh
(it also doesn't look like it's online either)
Ugh I just don’t know what I’m doing and can’t find any clear guides online
What actual router devices do you have? The map should show them
the log shared yesterday showed serial disconnects. solve that first otherwise nothing will work. try a different usb port etc. maybe you got a bad sonoff stick 🤷🏼♂️
My ikea switch works though. I have automations and it turns my lights on and off
Here’s my latest logs https://dpaste.org/TQ4eH
What actual router devices do you have? The map should show them
My Devices
Raspberry pi 4
x12 lights - WiZ LED Smart - https://www.walmart.com/ip/687078291
Nvidia Shield
Xbox
Nintendo Switch
Lg A1 TV
LG sound bar
Renpho air purifier
x2 Goove Bluetooth LED strips
x2 smartlife outlets
Lenovo smart clock
x2 google home minis
JBL smart google home speaker
Search mushroom in HACS
x2 aqara motion sensors (these things suck)
x2 switchbot automatic curtains
A lot of these are not set up yet because I don’t know what I’m doing
I don’t know what is a zigbee router and what is not. I tried searching online but I really just don’t know
Then share the zigbee map
ZHA's list of devices would help too
This is it
But like I said a lot of stuff isn’t set up yet because I don’t know how to
Yes
I tried on the same room and not in the same room
Ok, then it's not a range issue, though it could be a problem with them not wanting to talk to your coordinator directly
https://i.imgur.com/XKfXwYd.png
Does anyone know how to get a motion sensor to clear its motion? It clears it once when I power it on, and then it detects motion, but then motion detected state just stays on forever and it never triggers again.
that's a function of the motion sensor
So the motion sensor is likely bad?
Any specific reasons why my Philips Hue and Samsung SmartThings motion sensors (configured with ZHA) would drop off randomly and not change states? Seems related to the battery getting below 80% which makes no sense.
you should review its configuration
What do you mean by that? How do I do that?
I mean: review the documentation for the device, and what is available in the "Exposes" and "Settings" and "Settings (specific)" sections in Z2M for the device
same as you would with any device to change the way it behaves
@carmine hamlet What's a good way to extend Zigbee coverage throughout my house? Around 2300 sq ft and my Zigbee coordinator is pretty much in the middle.
please do not randomly tag people
Hmm, it's a cheap device of AliExpress, so documentation for the device is sparse 🙂
Buy a few routers. Usually but not always, a mains powered zigbee device will route.
For example, a light bulb or zigbee plug will route and help extend your mesh.
That's fine with me, but which ones are the most reliable? I bought an Aqara light switch that acts as a router, but it doesn't seem to do a great job
Innr plugs seem to work really well for many people
So even if I just plug those into outlets with nothing else using them, they still help as routers?
When you say "nothing else using them"?
Many end devices, particularly Aqara, won't change route automatically - you'll have to pair them through the router for them to use it
As in plugging the Innr plug into an outlet, but not plugging anything else into that plug. What do you mean when you say change route automatically? The Aqara switch is supposed to be a router
Well, Aqara's Zigbee 1.2 devices are well known for being "sticky" - they pair to the first device they hear and won't change
ah...
I seem to continue to have bad luck any time my wifi restarts or my home assistant reboots. The zigbee devices will be working well for a while, then suddenly become unavailable
i want to make a zigbee smart plug work in a mushroom light card what can i do so it will work because if i put the zigbee plug as its entity it says entity not found
Check that your WiFi isn't using the same channel as your Zigbee
How can I check the Zigbee channel?
ZHA defaults to 15, Zigbee2MQTT to 11
ZHA no longer has a default, it does an energy scan now and picks the least noisiest channel.
this this is as of 2023.04
Awesome
Somebody should update the docs then 😛
ZHA prefers to use Zigbee channel 15 by default
if only Hedda was here.....
How did you miss that tho? Puddly talked about it a bunch here lol
I thought this was your second home
I have 2 APs in my house, 1 is using channel 1 and the other channel 11 to avoid overlap
It's ZHA... I pay no attention to that 😛
Ah
the diagnositics for ZHA will have an energy scan in them take. a look at the download and see what channels have the lowest energy score.
That’s Wi-Fi channels not zigbee channels. Look up a chart there’s overlap
There's one in the pinned messages 😉
Looks like 15, 20, 25, 26 are best for Zigbee?
26 is a bad choice in the Americas
I use 25 and put my 2.4ghz ap using channel 11 furthest away from it when choosing channels for all my APs
Depends on interference of course
And for certain devices no?
What should I be looking for in the ZHA diagnostics? Never looked at this thing
towards the bottom you should see an energy scan section
I see that. Is lower better?
yes
search here, there is a way to change via browser console there will likely will be a button in next version of HA.
Looking for a Zigbee hub. The HA computer is on another network, so so something with POE is good. Anything also a bluetooth proxy?
https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/guide/adapters/#recommended has many options
If you're in North America then Tube is "local"
Thanks, I was looking at those, like this one? https://tubeszb.com/product/cc2652p2-based-zigbee-to-poe-coordinator-2022/
what is the difference between that and this https://tubeszb.com/product/efr32-mgm21-poe-coordinator/
Looks slightly "fancier"? more future proofing?
lots
basically they both do the same thing using different chipset and different stack but tube can expand
ahem, "the tube"
which I assume is a good thing
only get efr32 if not wanting to use zigbee2mqtt
2 dollars more and seems better. If I could buy a POE sky connect I would
as it's only experimental support
fyi, tubeszb is me 😉
ohai tube! I should have put that together
My HA is at my "office" and my "home" is where I want this, they are connected via a site to site vpn on their own IOT network. it actually works pretty well
these work by using network serial
I just did Tuya convert on some gosund plugs, no problem communicating with the broker at "work"
so you need a pretty good network connection. the cc2652 is actually a bit more tolerant to that than the efr32.
both stacks are kind of black boxes.
as in magic?
and Soylent Green is people
meaning closed source
robc confirmed yerba mate enthusiast
wild, i never went down that rabbit hole but i thought they were both on github
I don't know how much is open now.
@molten linden am I a weird one for wishing the EFR32 had a bluetooth proxy built in with poe ?
am I just a weird use case
si labs does push all of gecko sdk to github now, it used to be behind a serial number from a devkit
don't recommend
both use 2.4ghz
the proxies are resource intensive
so don't want anything that could interrupt serial connection.
I guess I don't need a BT proxy for fingerbot if finally go zigbee
there are folks who have done it though. they run esphome and yaml is open so free to experiment.
I'd rather have less
it costs $5 for an esp32 to flash esphome on (to use as a BT proxy)
i have a couple around the house to use some cheap xaiomi sensors
but zigbee ones are better
so anything I would ever need ble I can find In zigbe
zigbee, zwave, wifi
well yea for wifi
I also already have a bunch of hue bulbs
@molten linden one more question
what is the difference between your product, and something like this? https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2255800279089953.html?spm=a2g0o.ppclist.product.2.336cxDsDxDsDeh&pdp_npi=2%40dis!USD!%2423.71!%2413.99!!!!!%402103252e16844450662036239eaecb!12000030823497367!btf&_t=pvid%3A259052ac-7d83-4d88-8ebb-04e6171435bb&afTraceInfo=4000465404705__pc__pcBridgePPC__xxxxxx__1684445066&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa
hue are gold standard for zigbee - their bulbs work GREAT as routers and I am extremely happy with mine. I have 40ish
haha, yea, I did tuya convert on my gosund plugs
so you converted your hue to zigbee? thats what I'm thinking
i didnt convert anything
i just deleted them one at a time from the shit hue hub and added them to zigbee2mqtt
then added end devices like motion sensors
problem isnt just the tuya software, the hardware is all garbage too
race to the bottom shit
That's not an open device, you'd be relying on the tuya integrations
I didn't spend so much of my day yesterday doing tuya convert to use them
tuya convert is all but dead for most devices
i buy devices i can flash with esphome now such as the sonoff s31 wifi plugs or i buy zigbee/zwave
it actually worked for some I had lying around
I was referring the the hub you linked above
understood, I was responding to @grim igloo

even my adhd is confused
confused about what
having several different conversations at once, lol
anyway, I bought the device @molten linden . My goal is to replace my hue bridge eventually with that, and buy more zigbee shit
cool, thank you!
thank you!
i havent seen a single person dislike his coordinators
should be pretty happy with it
I'm good with expiremental too. now, I can start going full on zigbee
ah see! I could have board a zigbee IR instead of broadlink
or diy with esphome for dirt cheap
well yea, but I have the broadlink, so thats cheaper
I'm not used to being able to do this stuff
I've been a nest field tester for 10+ years, so I get all their shit for free, but can't usually intergrate
they have been finally opening it up for us
why do people prefer Zigbee2MQTT over ZHA?
Fuck nest and fuck google
LOL
well, its an abusive relationship
I get annoyed, then they send me another camera
Most people here know better than to buy, use, or suggest nest products
Anyways we’re outside the scope of zigbee
LOL, They are free man, and yes, (I've also been a tester for a decade)
hence why I am just starting to get into zigbee
I have this Sylvania SMART+ ZigBee Full Color Indoor Flexible Lightstrip I bought cheap back in days and it is sitting in the corner of my room, recently I noticed surrounding lights are acting up and when debugging I realized this lightstrip is acting as a router and nearby light bulbs are all connected to it although itself has very poor reception. I think it is somewhat broken however I couldn't immediately replace it, I wonder if there is a way to disable its router functionality thus avoid affecting nearby devices? I really don't care if itself need a few tries before turning off/on. Thanks for any suggestions.
no
long answer: also no
you could most likely cut off the zigbee controller and put a wled or other controller on the led strip
like de-zigbeeing it
this is why people like myself go out of our way to not put random shit on our zigbee mesh such as tuya
Yeah I'll try that. Lesson learned. I'll look into making use of the lightstrip in another way. Hopefully there are cheap solutions such as ESP32 or what so ever.
the hard part is just identifying the led strip (i.e. ws2812b)
the rest is easy, such as wiring to an esp32 or premade controller using an esp microcontroller
Lucky for me I think the smart+ lightstrip has clearly marked its connectors: https://www.lightbulbs.com/catalog/product_photos/sylvania/74521md.jpg
oh it's analog
😦
no fun
there's a diagram there for analog led strips - you'll need mosfets. or just buy a better controller premade
there is also the gledopto / pro models for zigbee
i have no personal experience with them, i prefer wled for led strips and individually addressable leds not analog (i.e. a data line not r/g/b/w)
oh confirm the strip is 5/12/24v or w/e the controller you replace it with can handle
After doing the math(with shipping cost) maybe I'll be better go with: https://www.amazon.com/Sengled-Multicolor-Required-2000-6500K-Assistant/dp/B08F1PDNFV I think I still have some Amazon gift card balance.
gross
Any recommendation? I want it to last a while...
