idk why or how, but removing my Hue Go zigbee light from my network resolved all my weird ass issues with my zigbee network. No more random device disconnects. no weird lag with firing commands.

Would be nice to have a list of "known bad" Zigbee devices.

It makes no sense but the only change to my network/airspace was removing this device

mellow geode
#

Interesting. Do you still have the sw_build_id and/or installed OTA/file version?

unsure if i can grab that with the device offline

Yeah, you‘d have to re-join it

I've started a blog entry which I will keep up to date of broken Zigbee devices 😄

as much as ilove the blakadder zigbee site, it doesnt do much to say how WELL a device works w zha

Yes, they need a "This device will break your mesh" warning

Could also be a bad choice of coordinator

I live in a house with a fair bit of distance from my neighbors, and all my wifi hotspots are using channels on the other side of the channel spectrum

SkyConnect is on a USB extension cable?

glacial zinc
#

And why does it work fine, and then die. And unplugging and replugging the SkyConnect seems to fix it for a day or two

#

Yes

#

Like, it's fine until it isn't, and then I have to prod every device to get HA to rediscover them again. I don't really know what to do.

Sounds like its crashing, lol.

sour shadow
#

What coordinator?

cursive dagger
#

?

sour shadow
#

The Zigbee stick... aka coordinator

#

What one?

cursive dagger
#

Ah, let me check, i have used this one for years

sour shadow
#

If you say CC2531 then you're overdue for an upgrade

cursive dagger
#

how so?

rapid dawnBOT
#

The CC2531 and CC2530 sticks are cheap for a reason. They're fine for testing, but do yourself a favour and buy something better.

What something better? Anything CC2652 based (see here for some) or the current generation EZSP (see here for some).

The Sonoff ZBbridge isn't advised since it uses WiFi, and the HUSBZB-1 uses an older chipset so should be avoided.

sour shadow
#

The CC253x chips crash under load, and sometimes their NVRAM corrupts at random requiring a re-flash

#

Load can be as little as half a dozen devices

cursive dagger
#

Ah, gotta love random issues that come up years after making a nicely working setup🫠

#

Hmm, it seems that installing the homeassistant os update fixed it, it might have been caused by the addon having autoupdated itself

sour shadow
#

The CC253x chips have been known to be poor for years now

cursive dagger
#

Can i see the coordinator info from the webui, or do i need to get out of bed

sour shadow
#

All you get in the UI is the type and firmware version, which may be enough

#

Z-Stack 1.2 is a bad sign

cursive dagger
#

Where in the ui can i find it

sour shadow
#

Z2M: Settings -> About

cursive dagger
#

Zstack12 rev 20190223

sour shadow
#

That sounds horribly like a CC2531

#

There are three ways of fixing the problem:

  1. Remove it for 30 seconds and hope that's enough to clear the problem
  2. Re-flash the firmware
  3. Replace it with a CC2652 (other than Sonoff)
#

Option #3 is the best one

cursive dagger
#

Tup, just checked the chip, thats it, but the issue was resolved by updating the hass os

sour shadow
#

Then it sounds like it was just a minor crash and the upgrade also reset the stick

cursive dagger
#

I did try a reboot for few times

sour shadow
#

Reboot doesn't always reset the stick

cursive dagger
#

Ah, i see

#

Oh well, time to wait and see if the issue comes up again, this is the first time i have had issues with the zigbee setup

#

I think i got the stick in like 2017-2018 and updated the firmware on it once in 2019 or so

Anyone have any experience with Centralite 3400 keypad? I've got it added to my ZHA network and I can use it to disarm my alarmo alarm as it broadcasts zha_event when 4 numbers are entered in succession (it sends disarm with the code) but all the other buttons seem to send no zha_event at all and I can't find much meaningful information elsewhere

#

I'm not sure if I can do anything about it, and it does what I actually cared for it to do for $18 vs $70 for one of the currently built keypads. It would just be OK if I could arm it on the way out the door, but my automations do the arming in general so can live without

tropic depot
#

there is a sequence for the key presses. I am in the office today and I don't recall off the top of my head... you also should have an alarm control panel entity that should be fully functional

viral cipher
#

it did create an alarm entity with all the states, it doesn't change state on button press but maybe you're right maybe it's a sequence thing i'll try to find documentation for the keypad itself, I've tried various combinations but fair

#

hmm, although it does update the keypad

#

the keypad lights up for like "away" when I change that alarm state, interesting

#

is there something to track/log/whatever (idk the correct term here) outgoing events to devices? Curious to see what kind of event is being sent to the keypad to set those lights when the state of the alarm entity changes

viral cipher

guess those are still zha_events

Hi, I have reinstalled HAOS and restored a backup. Zigbee works in Zigbee2Mqtt, but not in fronend, and I can't remember where to start look for issues. Can someone please assist or hint?

#

It also looks like sensors work in Z2M, but does not trigger any scripts as they should, so some form of disconnect...

sour shadow
#

That sounds like MQTT related problems

Oh, well. it begun with Mosquitto wasn't started, so after doing that, Z2M also started

Can a Hue light be connected to the Hue bridge and Zigbee2MQTT at the same time or can it only be part of one network?

austere patio
#

Only a single network (although maybe you can control it with Bluetooth?). Why do you want it on both?

jagged ivy
#

I'm configuring zigbee2mqtt. I want to run it in docker compose. In the docs it points me towards configuration.yaml to update before building docker. In there it has the location of the adapter. If I'm running in a container should I update that value, or instead just map the device to that value when I run my container?

sour shadow
#

In there it should be the path inside the container

#

For instance, you may map /dev/serial/by-id/blah-blah-blah-blah to /dev/zigbee

jagged ivy
#

Okay. So if in my docker-compose I've got - /dev/serial/by-id/usb-ITead_Sonoff_Zigbee_3.0_USB_Dongle_Plus_8064770-if00-port0, should that match what's in data/configuration.yml?

If you're using ZHA and are on the latest HA version, you can use this: #zigbee-archived message

Is anyone aware of any major vulnerabilities in zigbee2mqtt currently?

sour shadow

No

What have you heard?

visual surge

One of my machines appears to have had a user-level compromise and the entrypoint was zigbee2mqtt.

sour shadow
visual surge
#

Admittedly it shouldn't have been outside/WAN facing in the first place (which would have negated the issue as they'd have never been able to reach it in the first place, but the firewall didn't come back up due to a chain of events).

sour shadow
#

The UI I assume?

visual surge
#

The UI was disabled as far as I'm aware. Basically a file was uploaded to /tmp and then executed.

#

It could have been though given the "incomplete" state of things on there.

sour shadow
#

Well, if the UI was disabled then only MQTT would have been available to interact with Z2M

#

Which would mean that either the UI wasn't disabled, or it wasn't Z2M

#

(or you exposed MQTT)

visual surge
#

Even if the UI wasn't disabled, that shouldn't have allowed for arbitrary upload and execution purely from within the MQTT UI.

sour shadow
#

Oh... I'd agree

#

the UI does allow file upload though, by design

#

Execution is scary, and I'd encourage you to report the issue so that the bug can be found and squashed

Damn, 2FA on my GitHub. I'll have to report it later. I've done something of an autopsy on what was left so I can dump that in too.

I am looking to acuire a better usb 2.0 extension (better shielding, etc) as the only ports I have are 3.0 and 3.2. i also see this screen early in the migration process that i did not see in the migration guide... not sure if it means anything https://i.imgur.com/xQsMAlE.png

austere patio
#

This means that ZHA can't auto-probe your radio, which means that its serial port probably isn't working

#

How are you running HA? Docker? The OS in a virtual machine?

fallow tide
#

its a ESXi VM and i have 2 other sticks passing through just fine and i can see the skyconnect listed in the hardware

austere patio
#

So probably a passthrough issue

fallow tide
#

ESXi see's it and i see it listed in the VM and when i go to the hardware then all hardware section in HA it listed

austere patio
#

The USB portion may be passed through correctly but if the serial port isn't, this is what happens

fallow tide
#

but why is HA reporting it in the Hardware if its not being seen?

austere patio
#

HA sees that a USB device is plugged in and the USB device is reporting a specific model and manufacturer. When ZHA actually tries to talk to the device's serial port, however, nothing is sent back. It's a common issue with passthrough.

fallow tide
#

so its an issue with my skyconnect stick then? i have sonoff dongle-p and my gocontrol husbzb that are not having issues and are plugged in the same way

austere patio
fallow tide
#

ok i will try that i guess. just odd that i have 3 sticks plugged in and only that one is having an issue. but i will try to flash it

finite osprey
#

@fallow tide - Curious to know your findings as I too am using a VM (Proxmox) and while my Zwave stick seems to work without issues, my Sonoff Zigbee stick is reporting UART issues. I'll follow puddly's guidance and look into passthrough as well along with replacing my extension cable with a better quality one just in case.

fallow tide
#

so i plugged the skyconnect into my PC and the flasher will not find it either

austere patio
#

As in it's not detected?

#

Or the serial port doesn't show up?

fallow tide
#

ok i had to add the driver and now the flasher is seeing it

#

do i actually flash it?

#

there is an option to change firmware

austere patio
#

What is currently installed?

fallow tide
#

says Multi-PAN (RCP) 4.2.3 Home Assistant Skyconnect

austere patio
#

And that would be the problem 😄

fallow tide
#

what is the problem?

austere patio
#

The SkyConnect ships with Zigbee firmware. If you used it with the multi-PAN addon, you need to flash it back to normal Zigbee firmware, because the multi-PAN addon installs multi-PAN firmware

fallow tide
#

so i should choose change firmware and choose one? there 4 options to choose

austere patio
#

Yeah, flash it back to Zigbee firmware if you aren't going to be using multi-PAN

fallow tide
#

3 and upload your own

#
  1. what is multi pan, do i need it? 2) if i choose zigbee will it still do matter when i need it to?
#

sorry for all the questions... just trying to understand and make the right choice

austere patio
#

No worries. You must have enabled multiprotocol support in the Hardware menu at some point, because that's the only way to flash multi-PAN firmware to the SkyConnect. It lets the SkyConnect manage both a Zigbee network and a Thread network (for Matter). This requires special firmware, which is what the addon installs, but the firmware makes the SkyConnect incompatible with ZHA directly: you can only use it with the multi-PAN addon.

If you don't need to run multi-protocol, just flash it back to Zigbee firmware and it'll work as you expect. You can try multiprotocol again at a later time.

fallow tide
#

ok. thanks

#

so.... last question for now i hope..... i am flashing it back to Zigbee as you suggested, what will happen if i buy say, an Eve plug that uses matter. will i need to do something to it again?

austere patio
#

Matter can work over both WiFi and Thread. If it's a WiFi device, you won't need to do anything, because it never would have connected through the SkyConnect. If it's a Thread device and you have no other Thread border routers (I think Apple HomePods, some Google devices, etc.), you'll need either a second stick for Thread, or go back to the Hardware menu and re-enable the (beta) multiprotocol feature

fallow tide
#

ok. i dont have a matter device but i assume they are coming and i will probably get one eventually

#

now my HA wont start

#

wait.... terminal says it didnt start but i can access HA on another page... very odd

#

by the way.... the migration to Skyconnect failed again too. same errors and same screens

austere patio
#

Do you have the multiprotocol addon running?

fallow tide
#

no

austere patio
#

Double check. If not, then this is 100% a passthrough issue, because the web flasher talks to the SkyConnect in exactly the same way as ZHA

#

And just to be 100% sure, you flashed the "Zigbee" firmware?

fallow tide

yes

Just bought a sky connect and swapped it with my SONOFF P. I'm just starting off moving all my IoT to zigbee but it seems the sky connect has a much reduced range compared to the sonoff, it's not reaching my devices from my network closet like the sonoff did but will if I move the pi closer. I have a really basic question about ZHA, since I've only used zigbee2mqtt so far, and used that knowing very little about HA in general: if I use ZHA for my Zigbee devices (all Philips Hue), do I have to create automations for every single thing (like controlling lights with a dimmer switch)?

#

For z2m I used NodeRed but if I can get off of that I would

austere patio

rapid dawnBOT
#

Don't ask to ask, just ask your question. Then people can answer when they're around.

When you do ask a question, try to provide as much background detail as possible. Ask yourself these questions first so that others don't have to:

  1. What version of the Home Assistant are you running? (remember, last isn't a version)
  2. What exactly are you trying to do that won't work?
  3. Is the problem uniform or erratic?
  4. What's the exact error message?
  5. When did it arise?
  6. What exactly don't you "get"?
  7. Can you share sample code, ideally with line errors where the error occurs?
pure saddle
carmine hamlet
#

Native automations don't work like that

#

Still unclear what you want

sour shadow
#

If you want HA to do anything then that requires automations or tools like Node Red

pure saddle

Not to have to write 12 automations to handle one switch, but it looks like the magic word is "blueprints"

I think blueprints fit the bill

I am having low LQI with several devices already integrated. I have my p dongle flashed with coordinator software. I am unsure if I am getting 20dbm TX power m. I set it under advanced in yaml file. Did someone here encounter same issue?

austere patio
#

You generally do not want to mess with TX power because it will have no impact on LQI

frigid mango
#

I am really close to those devices and I am stuck on mid 60s LQI

austere patio
#

Do the devices otherwise work?

frigid mango
#

Like 2m no walls, my 2.4ghz Wi-Fi is set to 20mhz channels and is set to channel 11, my zinbee dongle is on channel 11 too

carmine hamlet
#

That's not really bad

frigid mango
#

They work fine but LQI is low

austere patio
#

Don't worry about optimizing LQI, if they work they work

frigid mango
#

Would you recommend staying with coordinator firmware then?

#

I heard about flashing it as router in case of p-dongle

sour shadow
#

If you flash it as a router it's not a coordinator any more

carmine hamlet
#

That would destroy your zigbee support

sour shadow
#

Also... if it works, don't break it

austere patio
#

You can flash a second stick as a router and put it in the middle (and hope devices pick it/force them to by rebooting them or rejoining them to the network), but you can do the same by just buying more mains-powered Zigbee devices. I wouldn't worry about LQI, you can have devices with near-zero LQI that still work.

frigid mango
#

Sure, thanks for the insight. Is there a way to rebuild the network by force?

#

My issue is I have the p-dongle in garage where my rack is and it picked up a smart socket along the way but it doesn’t seem to extend further

#

I have smart blinder switches and those seem to be only picked up when I brought my home assistant host machine to the house for tests

austere patio
#

Do you have any other routers?

frigid mango
#

I was hoping for the smart plug 10m away from rollers that is acting as a router to pick that up

#

Yes I do

#

On map the plug shows up as a router

#

And it’s not far away from blinder switches

#

Those would not adopt into network without me bringing the host machine to living room

austere patio
#

Did you join the rollers in exactly the place they will end up sitting, or near the coordinator?

frigid mango
#

Those are immovable. I have those switches in wall conduit boxes and coordinator is living in garage rack. I had luck adopting them only after I brought the dongle with host to living room next to them

#

That’s why I was obsessed with TX power and LQI

austere patio
#

Right. When you do that, the blinds pick the stick as their parent. Once you move the parent away, they may stop working.

frigid mango
#

I thought that I had interference issues with my 2.4ghz Siri

Let me share my map real quick

frigid mango
#

This would be current topology

#

I can see the smart plug has independent connection to blinder switches

#

Is there way this is going to work after I move the host back to garage? It had connection as a parent to the smart socket

sour shadow
#

Moving stuff around pretty much ensures it won't work

#

If you can't pair it in place then it doesn't have a strong enough signal there

frigid mango
#

Just a sec

#

My point I am trying to pass is

#

I know the host can see the socket from garage

#

And socket sees blind switches

#

But those wouldn’t integrate

#

When host was in garage, didn’t come up when I enabled joining and had them in pairing mode

#

But I can see router connection from socket to those now, and I will have the connection to socket

#

I will add more devices but I am wondering if socket is going to be routing/bringing in this case

sour shadow
#

You can pair via a specific router device, it's hidden away somewhere in ZHA's settings

frigid mango
#

Not using ZHA

#

I mentioned above I am team Z2M

#

Using MQTT

sour shadow
#

Well, it's not at all hidden in Z2M's settings, it's pretty obvious there

Hello, I am new to home automation and thinking about buying some more devices so that I can get into it more. If I get a USB Zigbee adapter, I was wondering if there is some way to disable the Zigbee radio with an automation? I know this is a bit of an odd request, but my parents are those people that think any type of wireless communication gives you cancer and keeps them from sleeping well, so I need a way to disable the radio at night.

sour shadow
#
  1. You can't
  2. You'd cause yourself problems doing that
  3. You've got bigger problems
#

Hopefully your parents never hear about this new invention called the radio

tough flare
#

Well, unfortumately there is nothing I can do about the bigger problems lol. Ive been trying to convince them for so long that it doesn't matter that Ive given up long ago

sour shadow
#

I know the type, you're better off not bothering with any non-wired sensors

tough flare
#

Can you even get wired sensors and smart switches and such?

sour shadow
#

Yes, KNX and others

#

They cost a lot more

tough flare
#

It would be a whole lot more hastle that I am looking for, and also yes the price.

#

At this point I can get away with as much wireless stuff as I want during the day, but I have to have a routine in my router that disables all WiFi radios at night. So I was hoping that there would be a way to disable the radio from an automation, and then just plan on none of those devices working at night, which would be fine in most cases.

sour shadow
#

The problem is, you'd have to power down all the mains powered Zigbee devices too, and take the batteries out of the battery powered ones

tough flare
#

Do they actually transmit anything if they aren't connected though?

sour shadow
#

Just shutting down the coordinator won't stop all the other devices continuing to broadcast

#

They'll be busy broadcasting at higher power trying to connect to the mesh

tough flare
#

Ok, I guess that won't work then lol.

sour shadow
#

I mean... you've got three options here

#
  1. Move out
  2. Pay more
  3. Lie and hope never to be caught
tough flare
#

I guess WiFi devices would work, as long as I can find devices that don't set up an AP mode once disconnected right?

sour shadow
#

Which things like Google Home devices do, and many others will

#

Battery life for WiFi sensors tends to be terrible

tough flare
#

Yes, and yes. I have plenty of smaller devices that don't however, so not everything does. At least I could get some wired switches, like the Kasa ones, it would be better than nothing. (As long as I can make sure they don't go into AP mode first)

As title says, I looked at the temperature graph of this sensor in my bath and saw a flat line for the readings, checked in Zigbee2MQTT and yep it’s reporting that this sensor was last seen 1 month ago. So now I’m just wondering: what are the troubleshooting steps for me to check up/try to discover

why it has last been seen that long ago,
what caused it to drop and not re-establish connection
how to “reset” it /what to do so it’s connected again and reporting its state and
what to do to prevent in the future from happening / get some kind of automation to report such behavior

From what I’ve seen it had 77% battery state a month ago and should have no problem to connecting to the Zigbee network as there’s an always plugged in smart plug right in the next room that acts as a router, and all the Zigbee smart bulbs in the rooms all around it seem to also work and respond fine

ZHA groups and helpers both seem to fire on 14-16 of the lamps but never all.
Complicating the matter is ideally having different intensity levels for each layer of lamps for aesthetic reasons.

I've been using home assistant with the zha integration for a while now and am pretty happy with it so far, but I'm now running into mayor issues when trying to send too many zigbee messages in a short timespan. E.g. I'm trying to set up a night light automation, If the night light boolean is enabled my setup will set the brightness and color temperature input numbers, which have automations attached to dim the lights and set their color temperature. From what I can figure this should attempt to send 4 zigbee messages at the same time, which is apparantly too much as it will consistently fail to set the brightness of the last light in the automation. Am I missing something obvious here? 4 messages doesn't sound like it should be too much...

What channel is your network on?

#

15, which is the default. suppose I ought to move it?

austere patio
#

Channel migration didn't make it into the frontend this release but you can manually run the command with your browser's dev tools using the instructions in the message I'm replying to. auto will probably pick channel 20. Note that channel migration for Zigbee is not super reliable and it's possible that some of your devices will not migrate properly, requiring a reboot or a re-join to start working again.

surreal river
#

alright fun stuff, lemme try that

#

I'm assuming I gotta give it a hot second to actually do anything?

austere patio
#

It takes about 10-15s to broadcast it to all of the devices on the network

surreal river
#

ah yeah there we go, channel 25, lets see if that improves things

#

all the lights seem to have migrated along so that's nice, didn't fix the issue unfortunately

austere patio
#

So they're still not turning on and off reliably when controlled as a group?

surreal river
#

that works fine iff I turn on/off a single group. If I turn on two groups, twice, then the second group only gets turned on once. which matters because of brightness settings etc

austere patio
#

"Group" here being a light group, or a ZHA group?

surreal river
#

zha group

#

light groups are hella worse for this problem 😛

austere patio
#

And are you activating a scene, or just turning them on/off?

surreal river
#

not using scenes

#

basically the automation flow is toggle boolean -> set brightness and color temperature numbers -> turn on 2 zha groups with color temp set, turn on the same 2 zha groups with brightness set

#

adding a sleep between setting the brightness and setting the color temp helps some, but still isn't reliable

austere patio
#

The reason I ask is because Zigbee just has a limit on how many group commands (really broadcasts) can be sent at once. If you set the brightness, color, and state of a group of bulbs, that's three broadcasts. If you do it two or three more times, you'll exceed the network maximum and they'll just be dropped.

surreal river
#

mhm

#

that's suboptimal

#

I don't think I'm bumping into that yet, but it's possible I suppose

austere patio
#

If you can, enable ZHA debug logging, do your group stuff, and then disable it to download a log. Can you PM me the log or upload it somewhere (e.g. https://dpaste.org/ )?

surreal river
#

sure thing, where do I poke it to do zha debug logging?

austere patio
#

It'll be right below the "Download diagnostics" button

surreal river
#

alright, gimme a sec

austere patio
#

TXStatus.NWK_BT_TABLE_FULL is the status code most of your broadcasts are failing with so it looks like you're hitting the limit.

#

Devices can be members of many groups at the same time so you may want to create a new group for specifically the devices you want to control. Or try sending requests to them as a normal light group, without broadcasts. You may have better luck with the latter after the channel change.

surreal river
#

huh

#

well I'll go give that a shot tomorrow, it's getting late now. thanks for the help so far!

#

sort of tangential question: couldn't home assistant re-try when this happens?

austere patio
#

When the broadcast table is full it probably won't make a difference (since the retries would fail, it takes seconds for the table to clear), but for sending requests to individual bulbs it should, this is something that will hopefully be fixed in the next major release

There are three Zigbee options with Home Assistant (regardless of how you install it). These are:

zha is actively developed as part of Home Assistant Core, using the zigpy stack, the UI also being part of Home Assistant. The EmberZNet based sticks are recommended (though the HUSBZB-1 uses an older chipset), but there are other options including the CC2652 based sticks. There is no list of supported devices, as any standards compliant device should work. Devices that require extra support are listed, and adding unsupported devices is documented.

Zigbee2MQTT is very actively developed and can run in an add-on, in a Docker container, and natively. As of 1.15 has a native UI, and it also uses MQTT for control and configuration. It supports mostly TI based sticks, with the recommended option being the [CC2652 based sticks](#zigbee-archived message). If you want to use an EmberZNet stick see this issue. The known working devices are well documented (which usually includes how to pair them so you don't have to find the manual), and adding unsupported devices is also documented.

deCONZ is relatively stable and mature with its own UI (and Discord server). It can run in an add-on, in a Docker container, or natively. Only the ConBee range of sticks and RaspBee GPIO boards are supported. Known working devices are documented, and how to request support for a new device is documented too (you can't add unsupported devices yourself).

Hi, I have a fairly established ZigBee network using z2mqtt. 47 devices (14 router, 33 end devices). I'm checking the network map and there's a few strange routes being taken by some devices. For example:

  • Some devices that are in the same room as the coordinator are actually routing via another device in a different room instead of connecting directly.
  • Some devices that are really far from the coordinator are connecting directly to it rather than going via routers.
  • In a few rooms, most devices are using the correct router (in between coordinator and room) but some devices are doing their own thing and connecting to a different router elsewhere. LQI for most devices is 25-150

Are these issues worth being concerned about? Do I need to force a 'rebuild' of the network?

grim igloo
#

You can’t force it to update routes across the mesh

#

That’s one thing I much prefer about zwave

ah...

#

I seem to continue to have bad luck any time my wifi restarts or my home assistant reboots. The zigbee devices will be working well for a while, then suddenly become unavailable

dire crag
#

i want to make a zigbee smart plug work in a mushroom light card what can i do so it will work because if i put the zigbee plug as its entity it says entity not found

How can I check the Zigbee channel?

sour shadow
molten linden
#

ZHA no longer has a default, it does an energy scan now and picks the least noisiest channel.

#

this this is as of 2023.04

sour shadow
#

Awesome

#

Somebody should update the docs then 😛

#

ZHA prefers to use Zigbee channel 15 by default

molten linden
#

if only Hedda was here.....

grim igloo
#

How did you miss that tho? Puddly talked about it a bunch here lol

#

I thought this was your second home

quiet gazelle
#

I have 2 APs in my house, 1 is using channel 1 and the other channel 11 to avoid overlap

sour shadow
grim igloo
#

Ah

molten linden
#

the diagnositics for ZHA will have an energy scan in them take. a look at the download and see what channels have the lowest energy score.

grim igloo
sour shadow
#

There's one in the pinned messages 😉

sour shadow
#

26 is a bad choice in the Americas

grim igloo
#

I use 25 and put my 2.4ghz ap using channel 11 furthest away from it when choosing channels for all my APs

#

Depends on interference of course

grim igloo
quiet gazelle
#

What should I be looking for in the ZHA diagnostics? Never looked at this thing

molten linden
#

towards the bottom you should see an energy scan section

quiet gazelle
#

I see that. Is lower better?

molten linden
#

yes

quiet gazelle
#

Looks like channel 25 is the lowest

#

Not sure how to set ZHA to use it tho?

molten linden
#

search here, there is a way to change via browser console there will likely will be a button in next version of HA.

half cradle
#

Looking for a Zigbee hub. The HA computer is on another network, so so something with POE is good. Anything also a bluetooth proxy?

sour shadow
#

If you're in North America then Tube is "local"

grim igloo
#

that's the one i'd buy

#

bluetooth proxy.. buy an esp32 and flash it with esphome

half cradle
#

Looks slightly "fancier"? more future proofing?

grim igloo
#

lots

#

basically they both do the same thing using different chipset and different stack but tube can expand

#

ahem, "the tube"

molten linden
#

efr32 is same as yellow/skyconnect.

#

(same radio)

half cradle
#

which I assume is a good thing

molten linden
#

only get efr32 if not wanting to use zigbee2mqtt

half cradle
#

2 dollars more and seems better. If I could buy a POE sky connect I would

molten linden
#

as it's only experimental support

half cradle
#

@molten linden says experimental, so it will probably come

#

yea

molten linden
#

fyi, tubeszb is me 😉

half cradle
#

ohai tube! I should have put that together

#

My HA is at my "office" and my "home" is where I want this, they are connected via a site to site vpn on their own IOT network. it actually works pretty well

molten linden
#

these work by using network serial

half cradle
#

I just did Tuya convert on some gosund plugs, no problem communicating with the broker at "work"

molten linden
#

so you need a pretty good network connection. the cc2652 is actually a bit more tolerant to that than the efr32.

grim igloo
#

owlrly

#

due to the stack?

molten linden
#

both stacks are kind of black boxes.

grim igloo
#

as in magic?

molten linden

I don't know how much is open now.

half cradle
#

@molten linden am I a weird one for wishing the EFR32 had a bluetooth proxy built in with poe ?

#

am I just a weird use case

molten linden
#

si labs does push all of gecko sdk to github now, it used to be behind a serial number from a devkit

molten linden
#

both use 2.4ghz

#

the proxies are resource intensive

#

so don't want anything that could interrupt serial connection.

half cradle
#

I guess I don't need a BT proxy for fingerbot if finally go zigbee

molten linden
#

there are folks who have done it though. they run esphome and yaml is open so free to experiment.

half cradle
#

I'd rather have less

grim igloo
#

it costs $5 for an esp32 to flash esphome on (to use as a BT proxy)

#

i have a couple around the house to use some cheap xaiomi sensors

#

but zigbee ones are better

half cradle
#

so anything I would ever need ble I can find In zigbe

grim igloo

grim igloo

chyna

#

if you see "tuya" in the name just ignore it dude

grim igloo
half cradle
#

haha, yea, I did tuya convert on my gosund plugs

#

so you converted your hue to zigbee? thats what I'm thinking

grim igloo
#

i didnt convert anything

#

i just deleted them one at a time from the shit hue hub and added them to zigbee2mqtt

#

then added end devices like motion sensors

grim igloo
#

race to the bottom shit

half cradle
#

thats what I mean, on hue

#

eventually move over all of your lights

molten linden
#

That's not an open device, you'd be relying on the tuya integrations

half cradle
grim igloo
#

tuya convert is all but dead for most devices

#

i buy devices i can flash with esphome now such as the sonoff s31 wifi plugs or i buy zigbee/zwave

half cradle
molten linden

I was referring the the hub you linked above

grim igloo

confused about what

half cradle

having several different conversations at once, lol

#

anyway, I bought the device @molten linden . My goal is to replace my hue bridge eventually with that, and buy more zigbee shit

molten linden
#

cool, thank you!

half cradle
#

thank you!

grim igloo
#

i havent seen a single person dislike his coordinators

#

should be pretty happy with it

half cradle
#

I'm good with expiremental too. now, I can start going full on zigbee

#

ah see! I could have board a zigbee IR instead of broadlink

grim igloo
#

or diy with esphome for dirt cheap

half cradle
#

well yea, but I have the broadlink, so thats cheaper

#

I'm not used to being able to do this stuff

#

I've been a nest field tester for 10+ years, so I get all their shit for free, but can't usually intergrate

#

they have been finally opening it up for us

#

why do people prefer Zigbee2MQTT over ZHA?

grim igloo
#

Fuck nest and fuck google

half cradle
#

LOL

#

well, its an abusive relationship

#

I get annoyed, then they send me another camera

grim igloo
#

Most people here know better than to buy, use, or suggest nest products

#

Anyways we’re outside the scope of zigbee

half cradle
#

LOL, They are free man, and yes, (I've also been a tester for a decade)

#

hence why I am just starting to get into zigbee

I have this Sylvania SMART+ ZigBee Full Color Indoor Flexible Lightstrip I bought cheap back in days and it is sitting in the corner of my room, recently I noticed surrounding lights are acting up and when debugging I realized this lightstrip is acting as a router and nearby light bulbs are all connected to it although itself has very poor reception. I think it is somewhat broken however I couldn't immediately replace it, I wonder if there is a way to disable its router functionality thus avoid affecting nearby devices? I really don't care if itself need a few tries before turning off/on. Thanks for any suggestions.

grim igloo
#

no

#

long answer: also no

#

you could most likely cut off the zigbee controller and put a wled or other controller on the led strip

#

like de-zigbeeing it

#

this is why people like myself go out of our way to not put random shit on our zigbee mesh such as tuya

dry radish
#

Yeah I'll try that. Lesson learned. I'll look into making use of the lightstrip in another way. Hopefully there are cheap solutions such as ESP32 or what so ever.

grim igloo
#

the hard part is just identifying the led strip (i.e. ws2812b)

#

the rest is easy, such as wiring to an esp32 or premade controller using an esp microcontroller

dry radish
grim igloo
#

oh it's analog

#

😦

#

no fun

#

there's a diagram there for analog led strips - you'll need mosfets. or just buy a better controller premade

#

there is also the gledopto / pro models for zigbee

#

i have no personal experience with them, i prefer wled for led strips and individually addressable leds not analog (i.e. a data line not r/g/b/w)

#

oh confirm the strip is 5/12/24v or w/e the controller you replace it with can handle

dry radish
grim igloo
#

gross

dry radish
#

Any recommendation? I want it to last a while...

grim igloo
#

yes, buy a controller from athom (or similar) running wled and your preferred strip

#

then integrate with home assistant
