The LQI for many of my devices swap between two values depending on whether the device is on or off :). But doing an energy scan, switching to channel 20, and tweaking my antenna orientation has done a lot to get the LQI and reliability up
no, really, the LQI is getting worse with time
and some lights becomes unresponsive
I mean, come on ! this is ridiculous. It was working great a few hours ago, and now I'm in the limbs π¦
hi all, i have a noob question about zigbee2mqtt, can i ask here?
Yep
"By publishing to zigbee2mqtt/FRIENDLY_NAME/set various device attributes can control the device"
whereis homeassistant do i do this?
where in*
taken from this info page: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/UFO-R11.html
At the moment I'm running z2mqtt with a conbee stick(horrible experience) but today Ive received the skyconnect doest it work great with z2m or what should I do? Have around 200 devices most of them are hue lights, hue sensors, frient, aqara innr and nous smart plugs i want to start over but this time for π
Mostly you use the entities that are created in HA to do that
Beyond that though, https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/mqtt#service-mqttpublish is always an option
Is it just me or is there a inrease of Tuya devices re-appearing in zha-device-handlers issues this month. I have a couple of them but many of these apparently USED to work in zha.....
depends on what you mean
they reuse model identifiers like crazy
so just because the issue looks the same doesn't mean it's the same device
because tuya...
When you have a hammer I guess.....
Did you ever figure out how to get Zigbee working on the main instance when the remote instance has the Zigbee device? I read that I need to enable Zigbee somehow on main device but documentation is lacking.
why is everybody talking about this skyconnect key ?
is it that good ???
what's the return of experience on it ?
Everybody is talking about it because it's produced by HA and supports Zigbee and Thread at the same time
yes, which is nice, as people buying it actually support HA
but end of the day, is it working good ? π
For ZHA, yes
never tried ZHA. I cannot comment on how good / bad it is compared to Z2M
It's different, not better, not worse
@glossy lintel good morning. I've switched from CC2652* to SkyConnect. If you want to stick with Z2M stay with CC2652*. If you want to switch to ZHA and to support Nabu Casa, you can switch to SkyConnect. π
well, I bought one, for the sake of testing ^^
I like the fact ZHA works out of the box and will be backed up automatically to my cloud drive using the gdrive backup addon
I see this a security net
now, I've read ZHA supports way less obscure zigbee devices, but I stick to IKEA, philips, sonoff and xiaomi devices for now, should be safe
and good morning as well @wet socket π
EZSP is unstable on Z2M. In my experience completely useless for a production network. In ZHA is working very well.
it's "relatively easy" to make custom quirks that will support your device in ZHA.
I don't know what EZSP is ^^
I'm really new to HA and zigbee to be honest
I was running all my bulbs using hue till a few days ago so I'm still in a learning curve
it all started when I've bought a "stupid" pellet stove, and suddenly needed to make it a little smarter...
EZSP (EmberZNet Serial Protocol)
protocol that used for EFR32* and EM35* chips
SkyConnect using EFR32MG21
ok so moving from CC2652* to EFR32MG21
sexy names, by the way
they really do their best to make it human readable
ok now it seems I got all my lights working (I had to bind one hue button directly to one switch as the signal desperately did't want to go to my restrooms...) I will see how to build a frontend as close as possible to what hue app was looking
@glossy lintel well these are the chips. The products are SkyConnect, Sonoff ZBDongle-P, Sonoff ZBDongle-E, Electrolama zig-a-zig-ah! (zzh!), etc...
of course they are
I'm just joking
I have to say "zig-a-zig-ah! (zzh!)" actually IS a nice name
for CC2652* IMO, it's less important who is the producer of the dongle, as the firmware itself comes from Koenkk and the community.
for EFR32* in my experience for time being is much more critical.
ALso, I believe Z2M will suppport EFR32* chips at some point, right ?
if it's the new kid on the block, not supporting it would make no sense
currently very vary... π
I didn't have a good experience with SkyConnect and some specific end devices (SML001 motion sensor, and YRD256 lock). Ported back to Conbee II and all the issues disappeared.
@tiny timber using ZHA or Z2M?
Is there a way to see what devices zha supports
No
yes - check out https://zigbee.blakadder.com/zha.html but be aware there are other devices supported by ZHA that just aren't on that list yet
ah. but I think you mean what zigbee sticks can ZHA be reliably used with. I'm not sure about that.
though conbee etc are on that list. hmm.
That site is updated by end users, it's not complete and not always correct
As a rough guide it's fine, but YMMV
true - it's taking a while for some of my submissions to that list to show up to be honest
I guess @violet dagger is a bit too busy at the moment
Reposting after posting in the wrong channel: I'm using this blueprint: https://community.home-assistant.io/t/simple-motion-activation-blueprint-with-illuminance-taken-into-account/308735 but sometimes my light does not turn off after configured time. My frontend shows that the light is off when this happens, but I have to turn it on and off to actually have it turn off. Any idea what could be causing this?
It's actually happening as we speak. Frontend shows light is off, it's still on
ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT, or even deCONZ?
zigbee2mqtt
What coordinator, and what light?
TRADFRI LED bulb E26/27 1100/1055/1160 lumen, dimmable, white spectrum, opal white (LED2003G10)
Not sure where I can see the coordinator
It won't tell you more than the type in the UI
You need to check your email to see what you bought
And it's on a USB extension cable?
Nope, directly plugged into raspberry pi
Pi3?
3b+
Ok, that's not a complete disaster at least
You do want a USB extension cable though
Hm do you think that would solve it? Both the light and rpi are upstairs
It'll help move the stick away from sources of interference, which can cause it to miss packets
Okay ty I'll see if it helps
I have sometimes seen my Tradfri (and other) lights report off when they're not. I solved that problem by configuring reporting to report their power on state every few minutes
It doesn't stop them from failing to turn on/off, but it means that HA can tell that it happened ... eventually
I'll look into that if I still see issues
may i ask how you did this? π in PullControl cluster?
and pick your max time to suit your mesh
ok i see thanks!
Hey, until recently only the conbee II was available in my country for purchase, but the SONOFF ZigBee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus USB stick was brought recently, would that be better in some way than the Conbee?
Is your current setup working?
Yes, I know, don't fix what's not broken, I was just wondering if there's anything in terms of specs or something that might be better in the sonoff stick for future proofing
I don't intend to buy one, just wanted to know the information in case I have issues, or something breaks, or I might need to help a friend setup a zigbee network and he needs to decide on one of them, etc
If you're running Z2M then the CC2652 sticks have better support, but support for the ConBee is fine
The only downside of the ConBee is that it's more sensitive to RF interference than other sticks, but you should have any stick on a USB extension cable anyway
I see, thank you! I do have it on an extension cable as per your recommendation from before
I don't have RF issues or anything, I'm fine with my conbee
is there a way to reduce the time until a device gets recognized as unavailable? for example: i want to switch off my hue lamp with a normal switch, the lamp becomes unavailble (ofc) but this takes some time. maybe 60 seconds
When you switch off a Zigbee router like a lamp by cutting power, you will force every single child device connected to it to scan for new parent routers. Sometimes that won't work, so you may end up taking other devices offline.
oohhh...
Also not every device will scan for a new parent, so they're ... dead
I do not think that is the issue crt had, from what I can understand the router itself takes 60 seconds to show as unavailable
yes
And you want it to show as unavailable faster right? I also have this issue and am curious about it
yep
The problem is if you want to make that faster, you also increase the traffic on the mesh
This may result in problems
okay i guess the "long" delay is there for a reason π
sounds not like a worthy trade so far
Curious though, is there a reason @amber mirage why you do not turn it off via a smart switch instead?
Just don't have one or is there some purpose to turning it fully off?
Xiaomi makes some super cheap ones(at least in my country) that work very well, as well as ikea, maybe that will help(not trying to avertise or anything just saying what works for me and is at a reasonable price)
i have a switch at the door and at my bed - they are interconnected and i can turn of the "main light" with them. i tought it would be useful to switch out the other lamps in the bedroom too
i had a smart switch at my bed but the battery drains pretty fast, maybe because that router gets turned on and off quite often "by mistake"
IKEA?
phillips hue
I know this might anger a lot of people but I combine smart wall switches that can work decoupled with smart lights
That fixes the issue of turning stuff off by mistake, though it is more expensive
why would that anger people
smart switches in smart bulb mode + smart bulbs is the best way
Everywhere I read about ssmarthome stuff people say "don't combine bulbs and switches, choose one or the other" and I'm pretty sure Linus touts that around as well
ltt is an idiot
Thank you so much β€οΈ
the point is that you shouldn't ever cut power to a smart bulb
yea it's then no longer a router
Is it a Hue Smart Button or some Hue Dimmer?
the 4 button version, i guess its a dimmer by default
Ah, the one with the shiny plastic?
And are you using the Hue Bridge or ZHA, Z2M, or deCONZ?
cant find it under the piles of electronic parts on my desk right now π
using deCONZ
and the hue bridge for some lamps... :>
It's likely an RWL020 or RWL021. I think there might be a firmware update available. I've never had issues with battery draining on those devices, so I'd guess it's because of turning off the router
got some lamps secured as routers with "perma -on" by putting them in desklamps
waaaaiit these switches can get firmware updates? O_o
same i have two of the hue remotes and batteries have been very slow to go down
Yeah. All Hue firmware updates/images are available here: https://github.com/Koenkk/zigbee-OTA/blob/master/index.json
You need the image id of your dimmer
i got another one (about the same time if i rember correctly)
and that one is still running
does he need to keep pressing buttons to get it to go faster?
uhh what? i dont get it π
keeps them awake to go faster
i think.
puddly i sent you a pm a few days ago btw- might've gotten lost in the mail. if you're busy or not interested no problem π
im confused, who presses buttons to go faster? :wat:
Battery-powered devices sleep a lot. Like when you press a button, some go to sleep after you press it, and wake up after you release it. They only ask for new data when they wake up. If you don't press buttons, an OTA update will take like an hour (since the devices do wake up every once in a while on their own). If you furiously mash buttons, it'll force the device to stay awake and you can finish the update in 15 minutes. Not worth the effort π
does each device wake up on a set interval hardcoded by manufacturer like zwave devices do? (i.e. my smoke alarm wakes up every 16 hours)
and to confirm - the device does not need to be woken up prior to beginning the update for it to start, correct?
The behavior is controlled by the "Poll Control" cluster. There are expected defaults but it seems like some manufacturers override them.
If you want it to receive the OTA image notification, it's generally a good idea to poke buttons so the device can actually receive it. Otherwise, the command will probably just time out.
thanks
ZHA.
Hello I was wondering if you guys can recommend any smart switches? I currently looked at Homematic but I am not sure if the haptic is as nice as it should be.
I have zigbee and raspberrymatic
any recommendation for zigbee hub that I need to setup with HA over eth cable (need to setup a zigbee network on a boiler room). So think of it as a wired-remote zigbee network. Hard to mesh it with in-between zigbee devices actually so prefer a cable to a zigbee hub. Seems sonoff bridge is flimsy, so any reliable options to consider?
How do you update the firmware on the Sonoff USB Zigbee ?
+1 for Tube's PoE coordinator π
Depends on which one
The CC2652 is incredibly well documented
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eYnURcDrWw this is a pretty simple hand-hold style tutorial if you want that. it's for the P dongle
@sour shadow it says CC1352/CC2652, Z-Stack 3.30+ (build 20210708)
And its documented where?
@sharp birch When using Discord's Reply feature it defaults to pinging the person you reply to, which can get frustrating for the target. Use Shift + click on the Reply option, or click @ ON to @ OFF to stop this - on the right side of the compose bar.
You have to change this every time (thank the Discord devs for that).
Tube seems only US, so hard to get one in EU.. any other alternative zigbee eth wired hubs (not USB dongle ones)?
https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/guide/adapters/#notes and on the Sonoff site
Easy to import them, but see the link I shared
customs agent just to handle EU import charge a min of 100euro.. π¦
I don't have Zigbee2mqtt .. how do I update over ZHA ?
@sharp birch you don't
@sharp birch have to tag
@sharp birch me on every
@sharp birch reply
π
I taged Once.
Some people are resistant to clue π
I replied to your message, not tag
uncheck the @ when you reply
Well... that's not a very smart approach
Anyways, I didn't know it pinged when replying
The bot messages contain useful knowledge
Don't have to be so rude about it
If you'd read, you'd have known
I don't use discord outside of this chat
Well... two useful things you can learn from today
- Read the bot messages
- Read the link I posted
The link is for Z2M which I don't use.
Instead of being rude, you could have just said the information on their site is not specific to the integration.
I ship world wide.
Hi everyone, apologies if I post this in the wrong section. I am struggeling with Zigbee2MQTT in combination with the Sonof Dongle 3 Plus V2. I was able to setup everything and also was able to join devices and even create automation. For some reason after a random amount of time. Sometimes days sometimes minutes devices seem to leave the network and do not come back. I have to join them again and after sometime they leave as well. What I recognize is that at the same time when I click on Zigbee2MQTT to check on the devives I am getting an error 502 Bad Gateway. I hope you someone can point me in the right direction
502 Bad Gateway means the add-on isn't running, check the (add-on) logs
Anyone got any recommendations for most reliable water leak sensor? Had my indoor AC unit drip condensation all over my TV thanks to a blocked drain pipe on the weekend. Want to set up an alarm/automation trigger to turn off AC/turn off TV if it overflows again.
Looking at options of Aqara, Aeotec, and 3A currently.
I am using Zigbee2mqtt as well, but I haven't experienced the problem you describe. However, Zigbee2mqtt has its own discord server, where there may be more people who could help you: https://discord.gg/e7G5xzjD
The Third Reality one works for me. It has survived a lot of coordinator down time and other network quirks, still reports fine and has a built-in siren.
Built-in siren is appealing! Will take a look. Was hoping to put the sensor inside a printed mount in the actual drip tray of the unit so that it triggers once it reaches a certain water level. Would need to be a pretty small trigger sensor for that.
The sensor relies on two metal contacts bridging (the device comes with an additional metal bar that can make the gap between them really tiny, for increased sensitivity). You could in theory just run wires, since the contacts are just screw posts and unthread.
Why reinvent the wheel? Floating sensors with a magnet used in hvac are a great solution that already exists
I've never heard of such a device. Can you point me to one?
Good thinking on the bodge wires. Might be a good solution!
V2 meaning the Plus E? That's likely the reason then since support for that adapter is only experimental in z2m
they have ones that sit in a pan and flip over when pan fills up or ones that sit before a p trap
Ohh, that wouldn't work. We don't have the large drains like most systems in America do. Ours are integrated into the unit. We also can't do electrical work (to trigger emergency shutoff) without an electrician.
there's probably even a spot on the control board to connect one
the unit still has a pan that then drains from a slight angle to a hose or pipe or w/e which is where the sensor would be
Do you know if the Conbee 2 stick from dresden electronic is supported
is the usb stick on a usb extender?
But that will definitely need to be on an extension cable (although as SMS SHS said, it's good to use one with any adapter)
shit my name gets shortened to sms?! i dont hate it i guess..
he'll get a 502 error if the radio fails to start cuz of interference right?
Yes, but the pan is maybe 10mm deep, with less than 5mm clearance above the pan. The wall units are very compact here in Australia. I will contact the electricians and ask if they have an option for it in any event. Might need to get them out for something else.
i'm sure there's a good solution
No clue what will happen with the addon version
The Sonoff is connected to an extension cable. But yes its the plus V2 version. I have a conbee II stick I could use instead
i would also invest in the tablets you put in the pans to keep shit from growing and building up in it
It would be helpful to see logs from the addon which will probably help diagnose the crash
It's actually outside pests that are the problem. Geckos, wasps, frogs all climb up the pipe because it's moist and cool. Gonna get some mesh for the end of it after I get it properly cleaned out.
I moved my zigbee stick (Sonoff) to a new computer, copied all the config and started Z2M addon. It started up, but no devices are showing. I thought the stick would have the information about paired devices, but do I need to re-pair all of them?
it's illegal to have them drain outside here lol. too many heavy metals in the water (from the attic maybe?)
Interesting! Can't imagine there's anything bad coming out here. It's just condensate, so it should theoretically be the purest water π
Will send these later today
in general it's a good idea to ask for help when you're able to receive it
not ping pong back and forth like some helpdesk ticket

Restore a backup of the add-on. You need more than just the config.
OK, do you know what I need? I have access to the old server and can copy files from there. Is it all the files in config directory?
What installation method was the old server running?
The same, HAOS.
just out of curiously how many devices are we talking?
Then yeah, make a partial backup of the add-on and restore it on the new machine
you might want to do an energy scan and change channels, network keys, pan id, and extended pan id while you're at it (requires re-pairing tho)
Around 50...
OK, so copying the files will not work?
(after doing what tediore suggested)
Why should I change the channel/pan id..?
Not in /config. I don't run HA OS/Supervised I have no clue where the addon files are stored on the host
channel would be due to less interference - the rest for security
Not really a reason to change panID or network key when moving hosts. Changing channel might make sense if the host is in a different location
i'm not suggesting it because he's changing hosts
I already changed the channel to 20
i'm suggesting it cuz it's the default install and if he's gonna change channel then why not secure it better
Before I moved...
based on his question above asking what pan id is it's pretty clear he doesnt know what it is and therefore didnt change it
They asked why they should change it, not what it is...
sigh
context clues get you really far man
I took it as "why should I change it if I'm switching hosts"
I have used the default security, and I have been told that this is bad, but... Maybe this is the time to do it...
ta da
also you said you changed channel before moving, so an energy scan definitely isnt a bad idea
Thanks, now I know why it doesn't work, I'll decide what to do later.
What is/how do I do an energy scan?
ya backup/restore the addon to get going then decide if you want to do what i suggested
That didn't come up until after you suggested changing the panID. There was no context before that that would make it seem like they used the default
Can I install this in a terminal i HA?
You made an assumption that just happened to be correct
It's already in the HA container and might be in the SSH & Web Terminal add-on container too
he came in asking a basic question that could've been searched online, so i made certain assumptions about what he also probably did or didnt do and acted on those
ISn't this "online" π
if you search here there's been some step by step tutorials listed here
i'm not faulting you for it, i'm trying to get across why i made the (correct) assumption i made with you to tediore
Follow the instructions here to get in the container
Then pip install zigpy-cli
From there once in
I had to install it i terminal... An energy scan actually shows channel 11 is better than 20 (current)... 25 is the "worst"
Copied the database.db and the state.json files from the old server. It seems to work as it should.
Do you still have a copy of the output?
No, but I can run another if you need it for something...
Don't worry about it, just curious to see what your environment looked like.
I was wrong about channel 25, it is not the worst, actually I am on the worst of the 3 (11, 20, 25)... I can't paste screenshots here, do yo have a place I can put it? Or, can I paste the text output here without being baned? π
https://imgur.com/a/dCojMs1 I don't know how to copy stuff from the terminal...
Looks like a strong 2.4ghz WiFi network on channel 1. Can you move it?
It's probably one of my neighbours...
Is your coordinator on a USB 2.0 extension cable?
Yes. The network is working fairly well, a few hickups now and then, but I think (hope) that is becaus my old server is slow...???
What coordinator type is this? ZNP? EZSP?
Yes, I saw that. I ordered the P
did you ever update the fw on it after buying it?
Hopefully that's what I got π
in the zigbee2mqtt webui you can go to settings > serial and see the /dev/serial/wakhjlgfajkwlgawegkjlawjklglkaweg
if it says V2 in there it's the E dongle, if not it's the P
shit that might only show up if you did the serial by id method for the usb stick tho
you can get to it in haos settings too just let me know what you see
Yes, I believe I did, it's been a while... I set it up with /dev/ttyUSB0, so I don't see anything like that in settings-serial...
is that an actual path?
I'm totally useless in the terminal, so if you can tel me what to write, I'll give it a try...
Itβs best to use the full disk by id method
Yes, I had to do that with the z-vawe stick... I might as well do it in z2m too...
Is there anything useful in hardware?
/dev/serial/by-id/usb-ITead_Sonoff_Zigbee_3.0_USB_Dongle_Plus_343a12e9fe12ec1182d221c7bd930c07-if00-port0
Yea thatβs what you need
Also thatβs the P model
Iβd update the firmware on the stick
I just updated mine today
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eYnURcDrWw I followed this guide exactly as he says
Itβs cli but works fine and is easy to follow
OK, settings->about says my coordinator revision is 20220726...
https://github.com/Koenkk/Z-Stack-firmware/releases you can read through the changelogs
I updated z2m to 1.30.0 today and now I'm getting a lot of errors (warnings, actually) on 2 of my smart plugs...
Warning 2023-02-02 01:37:38Received message from unsupported device with Zigbee model 'PoP' and manufacturer name 'Datek'
Warning 2023-02-02 01:37:38Please see: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/advanced/support-new-devices/01_support_new_devices.html
I haven't checked the link, but this is not a new device, no warnings before the update...
Cross reference with the changelogs I just mentioned lol
For some reason i can't remove lights anymore (I only have 2) and they don't respond any more either.
[8:19 PM]joesmoe: I tried reformatting my SD card and reinstalling HASS but it didn't seem to help. I have a feeling that i need to reset the rasbee2 somehow, how do i do that?
Hmm, I have no idea why, but about 40% of my end devices seem to have dropped off the ZHA network after upgrading to 2023.2. Doesn't make any sense :/
Anyone having zigbee2mqtt crashing and not restarting recently?
What version of Z2M? What coordinator, and what firmware on it?
We've had one of the GFCI's trip so one of the phases was turned off, theoretically if nothing gets moved from it's location all zigbee devices should eventually repair i think when the power is back on?
or do i need to do the whole dance again because that's going to be faster
Depends on how long it was off for
At worst you may need to poke the wake/pair button on end devices to get them to realise things are alive again
(unless it's been days, in which case you may need to re-pair them)
no, it's been an hour or so
end deviced it'd understand as they only transmit when they detect a temperature change in the case of the temp sensors
and only a section of the network was off
sorry to be off-ish topic but I wonder if you can answer something for me. I was curious about buying a zigbee GFCI outlet. In your experience do they expose an option to reset them via HA?
the GFCI's are just old school analog. i think there's zigbee enabled breakers that report their state, but considering that we didn't want 22 zigbee deviced stuffed into the power pannel we ran modbus to ethernet instead
and i don't expect anyone to make a remotely reseteble breaker/fuse/GFCI as that'd would be a safety risk. because you could turn power back on without checking why it was off in the first place
Oh ok so the outlet itself in this case was not an in-wall zigbee outlet. Sorry I was lacking context
or worse, turn it on when somebody else turned it off when the breakers can't be locally locked out
might be a miscommunication, We don't have GFCI's inside the sockets here, we have single one sitting inside the power panel before the breakers to the various groups
one per phase that is, and we have three phase so three residual current devices
(+ one large main disconnect switch that turns all power off)
gotcha. I was curious if zigbee in-wall GFCI outlets exposed the reset button to HA. I see what you mean about the safety risk but I (maybe naively) thought that would be mitigated by the fact that it would just reset again if there was an issue
the reset button is mechanical. they'd need to implement a solanoid or motor to actuate it
makes sense now that you say it. Ok cool! Thanks for de-mystifying that point for me!
someone worded it acturately, essentially what i just said: (UL is a USA safety standard commision)
"
Forget it - there's no such thing.
UL is the reason. Manufacturers approached UL about creating just that, and UL said no - mainly the interest is in the industrial space. Why? As soon as you provide some sort of programmatic API for a GFCI or really any other protective device... some jackass will come along and write a script which automatically resets it! It's an obvious thing to do. Very soon, this would become normalized - nobody would want any other kind, for obvious reasons.
Well, that would utterly defeat the purpose. There would no longer be any consequence to a protective device trip, so no one would ever repair the underlying problems.
An example is Eaton's Remote Control breaker. It's not what it sounds like. It's a regular breaker alongside a remote control (motorized) on/off switch, in a circuit breaker package. You can remote-control the on/off switch, but cannot remotely reset the breaker. That is UL rules affecting the design. It's made for applications like big-box stores wired to use the breakers to turn their lights on, but now want to remote-control that."
yeah the automatic reset came to mind as soon as you mentioned the mechanical button. You can't out-code idiots or thoughtless tinkerers.
I was coming at it from the perspective of a responsible person writing something like (only for example) "only reset this if the humidity level of a nearby humidity sensor goes below X)
I fully support the fail-safe of the mechanical switch. As much as I believe in darwinism, the best of intentions etc etc.
OK well, I guess I better make a full backup before I update
π
I asked this in integrations but no luck so far - has anyone seen/solved sensor (eg motion sensor temperature) values through the Hue integration failing to update after a while? It seems values are sent but they don't change. https://imgur.com/a/armGMNu
I want to use CC2652P as a router, what options do I have? ptvo and Koenkk? Is there anything else that is actively developed/updated? Between these two, which one is recommended? If only Koenkk's firmware would allow to utilise onboard LED, I would not think twice and go with it. Any advice?
They all came back after a few wake triggers thankfully.
a wake triggers ?
wait is there a way to try to wake all offline devices ? I have a lot of these sonoff sensors that keeps disconnecting for no reason π¦
Hi, i'm trying to setup my first Zigbee device with HA, i'm using SkyConnect. The device is Sonoff SNZB-01 button, when i put it into pairing mode, it doesn't show up in add device screen. Logs:
Device 0x64ca (00:12:4b:00:29:28:5d:42) joined the network

yeah, the sonoff plug does work. But not for the 3.0 port. But thank you for your help!
Where would one start troubleshooting not being able to pair a sonoff SNZB-02 and a sonoff dongle? Evyerything looks good on HA but no joy on the pairing......
Anyone tried aqara h1 decouple mode? If 3 gang can I decouple 1 button only?
Meaning the 3gang switch only 2 button connected to wall wire
or i must connect all 3button to wire inorder for decouple mode to work
i've recently migrated from HA core to the Yellow. I've copied my Z2M db + config and I'm currently running the Z2M add-on with my previous TI CC26X2R1 board via USB. I'd like to at some point migrate to the Yellow radio, but given my amount of devices (50+) I would rather not to this at once.
I've come up with the following idea, and I welcome your feedback and tips&tricks:
- Spin up a seperate container on the yellow with Z2M, copy the config from the add-on and run the current devices via the USB coordinator. Change base topic & connect to the MQTT add-on.
- Start from scratch with the Z2M add-on via the onboard radio
- 1 by one repair the devices to the new radio
Will this work? Are there better ways?
Where would one start troubleshooting
i ve recently migrated from HA core to
anything we can use as a zigbee device outside with some IP rating to fill in the mesh gaps? having a hard time to find gear for outdoor use.
What exactly are you looking for?
You could carry a zigbee radio with you connected to something that runs z2m and use your HA's mqtt server
If it's for around the house not for like going to the mountains and turning off your lights at home with your button, you could extend your zigbee mesh with some extra bulbs or radios
@lucid coyote how big of a range gap are we talking about
Anyone know how I get my aqara fp1 to not show as occupancy detected as right now its been unplugged for at least an hour and it still says occupancy detected. I would rather not delete it just to fix it as it means going and updating automations with the new name but if thats the only way then ill do it.
Is there a Zigbee temperature device that can be inside a small aquarium?
You turned off the power... just how is it supposed to update?
Open your Home Assistant instance and show your state developer tools
You can cheat it there, until the integration updates it
i turned off the power because it wasnt updating anyway
The correct approach would be to remove it before doing that π
its been showing occupancy for the last 18 hours there hasnt been someone in there for that long
Is there a fan in the room, or something else moving?
no nothing
didnt want to remove it as I said above but thanks for taking the preverbial
ill figure it out myself
You can change the entity ID when you add it back
I've removed and re-added plenty of Zigbee devices and never had to touch a single automation/dashboard/anything
Ive had issues where I cant re use the name and that then means going into node red to update my automations. Not a massive deal more frustrating. This FP1 is a great idea but really not worth the hassle I have the everything pressense one and its rock solid, the FP1 took so much time to find the right placement I nearly threw it out
Worst case, rename it with _old before you remove it, so that the old name is "free"
its been working fine for months btw just the last few days no updates, I figured unplugging it would at least show as unavailable but nothing
yeah thats an option
It should eventually - how long depends on whether you're using ZHA or Z2M
zha
No idea there, but I'd guess about 24 to 26 hours
It's an end device so availability timeouts tend to be looong
tempted to put in through the aqara hub then I can at least see if there is something triggering it
i see thats good to know
ill be investing in more of the everything pressence one I think as nice as the fp1/fp2 look they just down work that well for me or I should say the fp1 doesnt so the fp2 isnt even on my radar anymore
plugged back in and it seems to be triggering movement detection now or at least the logs show away and enter events so maybe it will be ok for a while again
Does anyone have any advice for router firmware I have asked before?
#zigbee-archived message
Hello, anyone ever had any issues with lights being reported as off in HA (after turning off from dashboard or via a switch) but they stay on anyway ? IKEA bulbs/switch only one group acts up like that. I use z2m and a sonoff 3.0 on an extension cable, tried repairing both the lights and the switch to no avail.. rest of the network is nice and responsive.
Looking at the z2m logs thereβs a publish with state:OFF
i think maybe one device or max 2 should cover the gap. Roof relay device (outside, and maybe down an 25x25cm air vent 15m) to reach a basement where 2nd device will be. Trying to see if we can do it all under 1 ZHA based network instead of having z2m and an zha.
Mixing seems like a bad idea. No opportunities to put some more mesh inside the house? I have a lot of wired devices so reach is never an issue
Yup, I've seen that... with Ikea bulbs too
Retrying usually fixes it, and I've got them set to report their on/off state so that HA knows it failed
Thanks Iβll try that ! Weird thing is that itβs always the same group, I have another group that works flawlessly, if I issue other off commands it does nothing, what Iβve found works is sending a dimming command before turning it off, if my WAF starts dropping too much Iβll prob make an automation to dim before turning off π
Hi everyone, I have a Slaesh CC2652RB on Zigbee2MQTT . A new firmware was disponible, somebody have tested this new update ?
Hi all - is anyone using the Aqara E1 blind motor? I'm using them with Zigbee2MQTT but for some reason if the blind is open and i then close it - the status reported through Z2MQTT never updates to show the blind is closed. Is there a setting I'm missing or something to have the reported status updated?
Does it get stuck as βclosingβ?
(I have the same device and the same problem, havenβt dug into why yet)
I have this issue too. I think it's because I have set the upper and lower limits but it's not reported back to ZHA correctly. I feel like it's something you could potentially hardcode in YAML but I haven't taken the time to dig in yet because it still functions fine regardless.
Lots of people have been running it since it was released and found it good
Status just doesn't report back. Unless I manually press the refresh button in Z2MQTT - the device just doesn't update it's status to reflect the state of the blind. It mostly doesn't matter because open and close service calls work regardless but for some automations it would be helpful.
i mean, why would it need to broadcast its status if it only ever moves when triggered by you
Loving my skyconnect!
If it updated its status back once finished moving I wouldn't care but it doesn't...
Is there a Zigbee temperature device that can be inside a small aquarium?
Hi everyone (I'm not sure that's the right place to ask for help about that. I think it's an mqtt integration issue rather than zigbee issue).
I have issues with my HA (HAOS, installed this week from a supervised backup) MQTT integration having troubles to connect to the mqtt broker. I have these issues with both EMQX and Mosquitto.
That happens whatever the broker address I use, either using the IP address of the host (192.168.1.xxx) or by using the docker network IP (172.30.32.1) or even by using the addon hostname a0d7b954-emqx or a0d7b954-mosquitto.
Please, if you have any idea, help. I'm stuck with my lights still on and unable to use my heaters etc
is there a way in z2m to change power on behavior of ALL devices at once (if they support it) instead of one at a time?
do they all have power_on_behavior in the name still by chance?
{{
expand(states.select)
| selectattr('entity_id', 'search', 'power_on_behavior')
| map(attribute='entity_id')
| list
}}
Yea they do I believe
I already manually did it but Iβll save that in my back pocket
Where would I use that? Inside dev console in z2m / mqtt explorer?
in dev console's service tab you should be able to use that as your entities for a quick way to run it
I guess I can try calling it too
i'm only seeing dev console within each device tab not an overall console in z2m
apparently I have devices that expose a power on entity but don't actually support it. neat
service: select.select_option
data:
option: previous
target:
entity_id: >
{{
expand(states.select)
| selectattr('entity_id', 'search', 'power_on_behavior')
| map(attribute='entity_id')
| list
}}
mine are all hue bulbs
i woke up to every bulb in the house on after losing power.. forgot to change the settings after moving to z2m
oh and i realized hass was down cuz i plugged in the laptop it runs on to a non battery protected ups outlet
oh and i realized i didnt turn on auto boot with power in bios on said laptop
ahhh, yeah. that can be quite frustrating to be woken up by bright lights
I tested that service call and it seems to work. You'll get a bunch of harmless errors in z2m if the device doesn't support it
no problem. it was fun to figure out. I haven't played with templated like that in a long time and needed to brush up
is there a way to force it to 'delay' a bit?
so it doesnt try to do them all at once and have timeouts?
i guess if that was gonna have issues i'd have issues with zigbee groups and multicast
the devices are pretty quick to say "it's fucked" rather than timeout
yeah
mine was all instant
kk
i had one timeout but i did the little refresh icon for that device and it unfucked itself
so do you need to run this in mqtt explorer or similar or somewhere within z2m ui?
HA's developer tools UI
no problem at all
yeah, I have seen some clever things with the templating. I'm about to make an automation that scans through ALL of my plant sensors to alert me of hydration needs. I need to rename a bunch of sensors though because btproxy esphome things from older version
RIP histories because too much work for me to save them. π
are those the bluetooth xaiomi soil sensors or diy esphome ones?
all of my names are awful. Apparently they're fixed in the new version but I'm not in a hurry to test the new version so going to wait a bit
i've been thinking about an indoor garden cuz my outdoor ones get rekt by texas heat
i was hoping to do like hydroponic or some type of vertical setup for stuff like strawberries and integrate with hass via bluetooth or esphome or zigbee or whatever is best when i'm ready
stuff with esphome is probably best. you can write device-side controlling so it doesn't rely on internet to do changes but just depends
Right
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075R6SSHJ/ these work well for a binary value of water or not water
you can put them at different heights in your hydroponic tank to know where things are in reference to the sensors
floats tend to jam
ones that rely on contacts tend to rust away
fast
I can try it again to see if the update fixed it but this did not work at all before.
oh neat these would work well for like.. pet water bowls too or for coffee maker water reservoir
what template would you use in esphome for that btw?
shit let's jump to #diy-archived
config for [remote_homeassistant]: required key not provided @ data['remote_homeassistant']['instances'][0]['access_token']. Got None.
I already have this key configured in the integration I add. If I need to write it again here then what format do I even enter this key?
- More a topic for #integrations-archived
- Absolutely zero need to keep pinging me on Reply
Oh, and
3) The error tells you the problem... you're not including a required key
Does that mean I need to find where in homeassistant this integration is stored and put these component lines there or do I need to add the key to the yaml file?
do we get one free ping a week? if so, do they stack?
like could i save all mine up til the end of the year like PTO
You add it to the YAML
What format does it follow then since it is not mentioned in documentation?
#integrations-archived can help
I would like to move from ZHA to z2mqtt. I have a sonoff zigbee dongle. I understand that I will need to repair my 30-ish devices and I am ok with that. Do I need to get a new firmware for the dongle or is the whole thing just removing the ZHA integration and then do the z2m setup and then re-pairing all of the devices?
If that's the CC2652 dongle a new stable firmware was just released, worth upgrading to that anyway
good time to do an energy scan and update fw as he said
and follow the suggestions in the first pinned post in this channel for a more secure (sane) setup
Any recommended peephole zigbee device?
recommended is dont touch it unless you need to
devices still need to reach back to coordinator and usually use mesh anyways
make sure you change network keys, pan id, and extended pan id - i cant remember if he does all three in the video
also https://github.com/zigpy/zigpy-cli#performing-an-energy-scan if it isnt mentioned
he changes network keys and pan id to "GENERATE"
but not the extended pan id I think
double check extended
https://github.com/Koenkk/zigbee2mqtt/issues/16188 feel free to give this a thumbs up to negate the need to do this all manually on a new install
Does anyone know what to do when ZHA controls break? All my devices are still there, but if I try to control anything like turn a light on/off, it doesn't do anything. Sensors still seem to work and their status update, but I've lost control of everything. I also can't add any new devices
And I've tried restarting multiple times.
was this right after updating home assistant to latest stable?
kk i was thinking maybe it's slow due to the latest database migration that some people noticed but that's not the case here
I usually don't like updating to .0 releases, but I'm thinking about it just hoping that it'll fix this.
What coordinator are you using?
Sonof 3.0
Is it on a USB 2.0 extension cable?
It is
If you can receive but can't transmit, that usually means the coordinator refuses due to interference
Physically move it around and see if that helps
Alright, I'll give that a try. Not sure why it would have randomly stopped working when I didn't change anything.
I also found this in the logs but I have no idea what any of this means.
https://imgur.com/a/LR62E2p
Yep, that's conclusively interference: MAC_CHANNEL_ACCESS_FAILURE
any chance the dongle slid down into a rack or something?
idk if neighbors getting a fancy new mesh system would have this kind of effect or i'd suggest that too
No, it's on a solid shelf, there's no way anything would have shifted at all.
This isn't nescessarily zigbee limited, but I'm mostly deployed on it, but anyone have suggestions for HA supported thermostats supporting forced air heating/cooling?
After moving the stick around, do I need to reload ZHA or anything? Never really tried troubleshooting this before.
what do you mean by forced?
No, the stick checks for interference before every send. Just try toggling a light after moving it and see if it works. Any new devices? Neighbors?
Furnace not not water heating
I ran energy-scan for a minute or two, channel 15 fluctuates between 10% and 30%, channel 20 is at constant 28-30% and channel 25 is constantly at or below 5%. Does that mean that I should go with ch25?
i would
although maybe your own wifi 2.4ghz channel is causing the channel 15 or channel 20 inteference
i use channel 25 zigbee and moved my channel 11 2.4ghz AP(closest to zigbee channel 25) furthest away from my zigbee coordinator
but neighbors play a factor other than just you, hence the energy scan
Hi - I've posted something similar on #hardware-archived , so apologies if you've seen this before.
Short version I'd like to "smarten" and connect up my central-heating system to HA. I can see that there are are lot of different integrations that will work with (https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations#climate), but my issue is I have no idea which controller would work with my setup.
Details of my system can be seen on this (now closed) question on diy stackexchange: https://diy.stackexchange.com/questions/265691/what-smart-thermostat-system-would-you-recommend-for-a-hitachi-heatpump-underf.
I currently have HA and some zigbee devices (through zha) - but nothing climate related. Any advice much appreciated.
The only new ZHA device I've added recently is a new contact sensor. I did add a Switchbot hub and lock the other day and those are both not working now as well. Not sure how those would be related though since SB is Bluetooth.
yeah so thermostat not TRV
correct
well you have a pretty wide range of options. i've seen people happy with honeywell zigbee/zwave/wifi ones. i use ecobee myself. you can look at the integrations page on home assistant for each of these then work backwards
same for you richardC
π
Ok - I'm new to this .. TRV? (this is the problem I don't even know the right questions to ask! )
Right, and I'm kinda looking for experiences so you've been helpful already. I don't really care if it's zigbee/wifi/ethernet so was most about "avoid these manufacturers". I'll look at the integrations and leverage google from there.
ah
well i would avoid anything tuya whether wifi or zigbee
what features you need helps etch down more but a lot of the good brands have multiple models that support a C wire etc
i cant recommend ecobee enough personally (i really like it) . i just wouldnt buy their overpriced room sensors. i'd use whatever temp/humidity sensors you want and control it with home assistant
although i do like the idea of separating some things from smart home so that they can work on their own if hass is down. you have to make that choice though
in case you already walked away.. boop @crystal mulch
heh.
https://community.home-assistant.io/t/which-smart-trv-radiator-valve-with-home-assistant/503860 there's lots of chat on the forums and reddit about TRVs - controllable valves for water heating. i honestly dont know much about them so i can only point you to google or suggest you search here for TRV and see what others have said
I'm learning the Tuya lesson so well stated. I want a 'stat that I can send setpoints to and it runs on it's own for that very reason.
if you arent sold on #zigbee-archived only then i'd repost / ask again in #hardware-archived and see if anyone jumps in
for both of you π
Might do, otherwise the Centralite 3000 looks alright.
it's zigbee 1.2 not 3.0 but that isnt the end of the world
you wouldnt buy their hub tho
you'd add it to zha or z2m (they specifically mention zha support)
Yeah, the 1.2 support makes me pause, would be nice to see an update there. And I'm avoiding hubs, using my yellow and a couple tube routers are on the way.
why multiple tube coordinators?
the yellow is pretty slow as far as hardware for home assistant goes, it's a pi after all. i moved from a pi4 ssd boot to a used laptop with an ssd and the webuis load much quicker on dashboards especially ones with cameras. I'm also no longer limited in which addons i can run
Ahh, routers. One in my house and one in my garage (detached) for range extension.
How long can the extended cable be between home assistant and the skyconnec? Would it work with 1 or 2 meter?
I don't feel any limitations yet, the pi4 CM isn't that much of a slouch, I could certainly run it on my docker server if I ever feel restricted.
eventually you'll get voltage drop but i think mine are 10feet
I did not know this. This could explain a lot of the behaviour I've been seeing in my network (lights that report their state but don't respond to commands transmitted). I'm in an apartment with many other neighbouring WiFi nets and lots of concrete walls, so absolutely a hostile environment for ZigBee. Other than changing the channel, moving the coordinator and moving the antenna, is there anything else that could help?
Any way to force the coordinator to transmit the command regardless of the interference?
@molten linden I'm currently looking for a device with an ESP32 and a Zigbee module that would work with Tasmota. Didn't you have something like that?
yes, you can flash any of coordinator devices I sell with tasmota, they come with esphome stock
Ah, so they're all ESP32.
yes, they use either and Olimex ESP32-PoE or an WT32-ETH01
hey yall, im having issues getting the follow device to work with zha https://zigbee.blakadder.com/Tuya_ZG-204ZL.html
I know it's not confirmed working, but the non illumenance version is, and im not really sure what the problem is. It shows up but only t he motion sensor aspect and it doesnt seem to register motion. Any idea what i can do to troubleshoot?
How do you add an additional zigbee co-ordinator?
You can't. Each ZigBee net can only have one coordinator. Do you mean adding a router?
What if he did an nvm restore from one to the other and let them fight it out
i know it's not possible it just sounded funny
does zigbee/ZHA have a way to multicast something like changing LED colors? zwave can with a service, but there's no similar service from ZHA
I have been able to create a group, but that only provides basic actions like on, off, brightness, etc.
@golden sun I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
Zigbee groups work with color commands. What device are you controlling?
i am looking at finally upgrading my CC2531 and there's so many options now for zigbee2mqtt! what's these ethernet options, does it basically operate like a locked-in hub would? better in docker, i've read, but struggling to understand any other big differences
all i know is i gotta upgrade the CC2531 hahahaha, planning a full HA rebuild at this point, been like 12 months since ive done anything
thank gosh i just read this, oof
Anything CC2652 based is good
i was having a read of that, how i found my poor little texas is EoL
That's been not-recommended for a year or two now π
The Ethernet connected ones allow you to put the coordinator somewhere away from the computer running Z2M - eg more centrally
that's how long it's been since ive been around these parts! i remember your name, glad to still see you around :)
is there a sort of little spreadsheet or something with feature differences, or is it so miniscule between them because it's the same chip?
They're all the same chip so the differences are purely about how they connect
the notes down the bottom pretty much all i need to know then?
like the P and RB etc
Largely speaking the choice is whether you want USB or Ethernet connected
(some do both)
The P vs RB is also largely immaterial
are the some that do both meh in comparison? i would rather one and done buy (but i guess i tried that with the CC2531 back in the day haha)
Nah, it's all the same chip
well, heck yeah! thanks for the help!
i saw you can even flash a Sonos hub
things have come so far
Sonoff, my bad
Stay away from WiFi connected things
oh i 100% will be, just ran ethernet under the house today ironically enough :p
just crazy the progress that's been made, have so much reading ahead of me!
after a few days, I cannot say I'm happy about moving all my zigbee lights to z2m
I get terrible delays
like, I starta s cene, and 80% of the lights are changing modes, but 20% simply aren't
or, I shut down a full room, and one or two lamps keeps being on...
this was not happening with my hue hub. And it was located in the basement. I really start to think my coordinator might be the issue
even if it is flashed with the most recent version of the zstack fw...
Use Zigbee groups for controlling multiple bulbs at the same time
yes I tried, I created the groups, and I also have problems.
independent rooms are working fine
but once I created bigger groups -> ground floor -> all lights
I start having a lot of lights that are not reacting
even worse, my 1st gen hue lights, are the worse of all
they keep disconnecting
and look at these LQIs ther are not that bad
it's so weird
other devices are not responding to ping...
warning 2023-02-03 09:20:01Failed to ping 'Cave - buanderie - TRADFRI router' (attempt 1/2, Read 0x3425b4fffe2db515/1 genBasic(["zclVersion"], {"sendWhen":"immediate","timeout":10000,"disableResponse":false,"disableRecovery":true,"disableDefaultResponse":true,"direction":0,"srcEndpoint":null,"reservedBits":0,"manufacturerCode":null,"transactionSequenceNumber":null,"writeUndiv":false}) failed (Timeout - 17358 - 1 - 53 - 0 - 1 after 10000ms))
and now, I placed the coordinator in the middle of the house, literally.
as I ordered a skyconnect, I will try to test ZHA and with it and see if I can see an improvement. Z2M / sonoff coordinator combination really isn't working out for me π¦
can you eventually remember me the name of the tool that use to scan the zigbee network and show which channels are most used ?
I can't find it back

the weridest thing is these are all lights and wired devices in general (loosing their connection)
Not light color, an LED indicator. It's a device quirk for the inovelli blue switches
Is there a Zigbee temperature device that can be sitting inside a small aquarium?
wasn't that question asked yesterday?
best bet is making/finding something with a onewire ds18b20
yeah but no one answered me
but the wire will have to go out of the aquarium?
Hi, I've got 53 devices on my Zigbee Network, quite a lot are routers (bulbs etc.) and I'm seeing this now : failed with status '(0xc7: NWK_TABLE_FULL) - I've shut it all down, unplugged the coordinator, also flashed to latest firmware. Issue remains π¦
oh it's a ZZH! adapter
Latest being 20221226?
Yup, assume there is no newer
Thereβs an issue up for that on the fw repo. Advice was to go back to last stable version for now.
Ah joy, and there was me following instructions lol
I'll downgrade it
Downgraded ... now to monitor

Hello. When using z2m and lights, do you group using the group helper in HA or use groups in z2m? What is the difference? I've been having issues lately with 1 light not working using groups in z2m which I think is due to the light not directly connecting to the usb-stick but rather through the mesh. Been thinking about changing all of my lighting groups by the Group Helper instead of through z2m but wanted to see here if there was any reason not to go this route?
Z2M group
A group in HA is a collection of entities, no different to operating on them all separately
A group in Z2M is a Zigbee group, a single command reaches all of them
Using a HA group means that you send as many commands as there are devices, which can result in lost messages
Yeah, that was what I was thinking the main difference was. But then it is weird that one light in a group of many does not turn on. Will have to troubleshoot more maybe. Does it matter if they are in more groups? Like, i have a floor standing lamp with 2 bulbs. They are both in a group called "Floor standing" and in the group "Living Room". Can binding to more groups affect it?
Or is binding the wrong term when using groups?
I'm not sure whether devices support multiple groups - it's probably down to the device
Hey team - I've got Hue LightStrip Plus v4 (x2) - I've reset via removing from Philips Hue Bridge and Reset via Bluetooth. I have SkyConnect and attempting to connect via ZHA. I'm not seeing anything within ZHA. Reset a few times, unplugged, replugged but nout. Nothing in logs that looks like an error. Any ideas pleases?
check the zha device handlers repo issues, search for the random tuya manufacturer string. https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/issues
hey all, since 2023.2 I've been seeing this in my logs quite a bit. It with regards to my Aqara P1 Motion detectors. I thought those only update on motion?

The older model only updates on motion, the P1 seems to update the lux intermittently too
the purple line is the P1, the blue line is from the light sensor near it
FYI: EmberZNet v7.1.4.0 beta firmware for Yellow/SkyConnect released two hours ago. π
Did you migrate your network from another sick to SkyConnect?
Just to see if it works, try pairing the light near the coordinator
Huh, that's weird then. The light should be in pairing mode if reset through the Hue app (Bridge or Bluetooth)
When you reset it, does it turn to warm white and full brightness?
I don't believe you can. The LEDs for that specific device aren't controlled by commands, they're controlled by writing an attribute.
And you can't multicast attribute changes?
I don't think so but let me double check
Is there any general consensus on whether to update coordinator firmware? I've seen opinions on both sides, e.g. "Always run the latest firmware" and "Only update if you're having problems"
Someone has to beta test them π
The latest stable CC2652 firmware has issues that have just come to light
I'd maybe not rush to update yet
ah ok, I'm on a CC2652RB and saw there was a new firmware released a couple day ago, 20221226. I think the one I'm currently on is 20220219. I guess I'll hold off for a while
god damnit
I'm back from IKEA, I have all these nice bulbs
and they are not resseting
...
I did reset like 30 of these tradfri bulbs without any issue several times in the past
and these ones, don't reset
Would it make sense that a 70db MoCA filter on the back of my modem/router would prevent or reduce interference from my ZigBee dongle? I believe that it is, but I don't know the exact science.
i have the tubezb-cc2652p2-eth and would like to flash it to the latest firmware 20221226. I tried a few hex files but i keep getting the missing magic byte error
I also have a tube-zb-gw-cc2652p2-v2 with the same problem which should work with the launchpad version of the firmware?
@fossil loom That is correct. 1) Dropping a zigbee sensor into an aquarium will not lead to great signal levels 2) unless someone is making something specific already designing for keeping water out will be non-trivial.
Easiest is a sealed temp probe hooked up to something like a pico-w/esp32/etc. which sends you that data.
It was on a Hue Bridge originally. Removed from, it reset to Amber
Hi ! Am i the only one to have disconnecting/reconnecting issue with the Sonoff Dongle E (EFR32MG21) on Z2M ?
hi there - is there any available documentation around migrating from deconz/conbee stick to skyconnect?
Click the "Migrate Radio" button in ZHA's configuration page and follow the instructions
thanks!
Are you trying to use the web interface? That is only for the esp32 fw
Iβd hold off on updating. There are issues popping up with the new version. Some people are fine though so π€·πΌββοΈ Iβm going to hold of on shipping units with it for a while more though
I use the esphome flasher but the firmware gives this error https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZUfTx65eySiYqFgG9 a magic byte errir
earlier firmware flashes fine
What is firmware.hex?
That firmware is for the CC2652, not for the ESP32
You can't flash it with the ESP flasher
so i have to use the python way in windows. thats going to be a challenge
i wish there was an easy way to flash new firmware on the coordinators. just upload a file and flash π
Eventually. Once https://github.com/pyodide/pyodide/issues/2354 is fixed, it will be possible.
but the browser function in the esp with the prep for update button isnt for the firmware?
It's to put the CC2652 into bootloader mode
Then you connect via the ESP to the CC2652 via the Python tool to flash firmware
ok then ill have to look into this. so the whole part to select file and update in the web interface is only for the esp part
Yes
ok clear thanks
anyone know if siemens zigbee 3.0 new products (i.e RDZ100ZB, RDZ101ZB thermostats & rest) are open enough to work with other vendor gw's or have they attempted a closed vendor approach?
I have just recently switched to using zha for everything with a sonoff 3.0 Zigbee module. And its great having the option to use every sensor and device, but when it comes to hue lights, switches and sensors using the hub feslt more easy and smooth. Don't know if I want to switch back to hue hub or not...
find anything?
Got multiple devices hang with "% Remaining time N/A" OTA update state. How to fix this? π thank you!
ok, removed updating state from state.json manually π
@nova crest all right π sry
hi, I have a problem with the raspi, a SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB dongle. Unfortunately this is somehow not recognized. Where could I get help?
Thanks and greetings
Your Sonoff stick isn't showing up to the OS, so it's either unplugged, or the USB port isn't working. Can you try unplugging it and plugging it back in?
puddly
good you're here
I changed my zigbee chan again tonight, to chan 20
based on what you recomended me to do a few weeks ago
so I ran the good old
zigpy radio znp /dev/serial/by-id/usb-Silicon_Labs_Sonoff_Zigbee_3.0_USB_Dongle_Plus_0001-if00-port0 change-channel -c 20
got the ton of errors and warnings
removed the backup :
rm -rf /opt/zigbee2mqtt/data/coordinator_backup.json
and restarted z2m
yes I have already plugged it into every usb port on the raspi 4, do I have to completely reboot every time I plug in and unplug?
and I'm having this message again :
Failed to start zigbee
Error: network commissioning timed out - most likely network with the same panId or extendedPanId already exists nearby
so I4ve took a metal pot, and removed my sonoff P dongle antenna
but this time, the message is not going away
π¦
I cannot start z2m anymore
do you have anyidea of what I can do to fix this ?
Did you change the channel in Z2M's config file?
I don't use Z2M so I don't know why it's trying to form a new network
yes I did, at least I did it in the gui
let me double check the conf file
channel 20 in the conf file
I just did remove the backup again...
lets see....
I'd need the unredacted Z2M and herdsman log files to see what's broken
Where do i find how many powered devices can be added to skyconnect? i'm at 88 now but it's already acting weird and i have lot more devices to be added
There's no real limit to the number of devices you can add to a network, unless you are adding exclusively sensors, no bulbs, outlets, etc.
No i am just adding hue light bulbs and plugs. After every powered devices is added i want to start adding battery powered devices
hha it finally started
but it finds 1 device and cannot configure it
no antenna..... metal pot....
so so I'm stoping it again, remove the backup file again, and start it again with the antenna and without the pot I guess
what a chance I had this discussion with you last time
I4d never have thought about removing the antenna
hm, only a handful of devices got back in Z2M
they do communicate between them though
Eg: I binded a hue button to my restroom lamp, and this is still working
but things are not displayed in Z2M anymore
any ideas ?
this can't be true, I forced my wifi on chan 1, moved my zigbee network to chan 20 (after analyzing the channels with zigpy)
I have two bulbs connected to th coordinator, and they are located at max 2m from it
and one of them has a LQI of 4
That's probably a sign of interference
Hello There, I'm in pain π
Just received my Skyconnect key. I managed to add devices. After something like 10 min, lost connection to all devices. Tried to remove all devices, integration and add it back. Now I can not even find the devices I try to sync with π¦
Any idea ?
Hello all, I'm trying to redo my zigbee network on the yellow and am having trouble wiping it clean. I initially migrated from a nortek stick, but now want to start over.
Even after deleting all devices and the integration, the radio reverts to the older radio name I migrated from, and some devices automatically join. Is there some hidden backup that I need to delete to truly reset the radio and integration?
Migration is usually a better option than trying to set everything up from scratch
But if you want to do that, delete the ZHA integration and then delete /config/zigbee.db. The next time you set it up (make sure to erase network settings), it will be completely fresh.
TYVM, I was going crazy trying to reset.
I didn't want to reset, but with all the terrible device naming as well as strange aqara device behavior when moved, I figured I would just bite the bullet and start over.
Hi guys and sorry for the cross-post, was told here would be the right place. I have HA running on a rsp4b and now bought a Conbee II hoping to integrate some aqara devices. However I'm confused/stuck and need some help.
I have tried to integrate two devices (a multisensor and motionsensor), both show up in the deCONZ app that I open from the add-on. However I don't get any notifications in HA. During startup I get two error messages:
- Couldn't start application 17:40:14 β (ERROR) /usr/local/lib/python3.10/site-packages/zigpy/application.py - message first occurred at 17:40:02 and shows up 3 times
- Error setting up entry ConBee II for zha 17:40:14 β (ERROR) components/zha/core/gateway.py
Any hints?
If you're using deCONZ, you shouldn't have anything related to zigpy or ZHA: they are mutually exclusive integrations
I think I added the conbee as a zha device and also installed the deconz add-on π¬ I guess that was stupid? How do I get out of this misery?
Either uninstall deCONZ or ZHA (they're independent implementations so use whichever one you like, just not both at the same time)
My solution, use zigbee2mqtt instead of zha, works fine π
That would be a worse choice for the SkyConnect tbh
Only difference is default channel of 11 vs 15. If you're having issues adding devices, that may be why π€·ββοΈ
I'll give it another try tomorrow with channel 11 π
But it seems to be working way more fine than zha for now
You'd be better off running an energy scan to pick a channel: https://github.com/zigpy/zigpy-cli#performing-an-energy-scan
Best to stay with 11, 15, 20, or 25 though
I have ConBeeII usb adapter and I use it with ZHA... it's not bad but definitively not 100% stable, I was considering the skybridge, but will I have to move all devices to ZB2MQTT....????
If you're talking about SkyConnect, it works best with ZHA at the moment. There's also a migration available
oops, my bad, SkyConnect, that's right...
Any recommendation on a smart plug with energy monitoring via ZHA? I am thinking about Third Reality since it is an official Home Assistant partner but it seems to be a small brand
Thank you, good to know, have nothing against Zigbee2MQTT but moving everything from ZHA would be time consuming...
I think their energy monitoring plugs are pretty new. I really like their regular plugs
Great! I may just get one and try it out. Really can't beat the price
I've gotten a few 4-packs from Amazon and they're great
(The non-energy monitor ones)
I have been using Kasa but I just received my skyconnect and moved everything over to ZHA from Xiaomi Gateway 3. Thinking about getting some smart plug to replace my Kasa so that I can add some Zigbee router and free up some WiFi bandwidth
right now I just have one coordinator and zero router. All my zigbee devices are motion sensors and contact sensors lol
Thank you, I found a zha quirk that fixed my issue. Never had to add one manually before
Awesome. Please comment on the issue and let them know it worked for you so it can hopefully get moved to a pr and merged so itβs available by default (and if it does youβll want to remove the custom quirk)
i've upgraded one of my ikea symfonisk E1744 devices to latest firmware, and its lost the single button press (toggle) action? has anyone else experienced this? Its gone in both legacy and normal mode.
double tap still publishes skip_forward
Thanks for the explanation! Sorry for late reply...
Alot of people say there is no real limit of devices connected with Skyconnect. I now have added around 80 devices (all hue lights) and the network already starting to crumble. Making groups don't work properly, one minute a light is working the next it's not, adding new devices(mains) sometimes takes ages or are not properly added.
I still have to add 120 devices (battery, mains)
Setup this time = zha
But before i used conbeeII with z2m (not a great experience either)
I'm lost and i don't know what to do. Any thoughts?
I wit for my skyconnect to get delivered π I'll check this next week I guess
Anyone know of AAA powered door sensors? I've got some of the generic ali 2032 powered ones and they're alright inside but winter temps outdoors just murder the little coin cell's life.
thirdreality
Have you done the deconflicting of your WiFi and ZigBee channels?
Anyone an idea why 2 of my 5 hue gu10 spots keep giving the failed to pair error when trying to add them to z2mqtt? What could cause this. They are the same as the 3 i paired with success
i forced remove the failed pairs from z2m, rebooted z2m reset the spots with a dimmer switch (hold on anf off for 10 sec) and try to pair them again but they keep giving the failed to pair error
i also get allot of errors: (0xc7: NWK_TABLE_FULL)' (expected '(0x00: SUCCESS)'))' from another light in the house
there is something really messed up with z2mqt groups. i have allot of problems with z2m groups. when controlling a group everything works but when trying to control individual lights in these groups some work others dont
it seems there is an issue with latest 20221226 firmware, i guess you running this one? https://github.com/Koenkk/Z-Stack-firmware/issues/418
if yes, rollback to 20220219 for time being.
no i just updates z2m
im not runnign the latest firmware on the coordinator
everything seems messed up π .. lights go on and ha tells me they are off. lights not responding, tons of network table errors. door sensors not responding. damn this is by far the most terrible z2m update ever made
i think its z2m to blame not the coordinator firmware
@azure tinsel which coordinator do you have?
im reverting back this is a mess
tube-zb-gw-cc2652p2-v2
damn reverting back made it worse

cant open z2m anymore either
it seems that i cant even stop the z2m addon anymore. omg repairing 128 devices incomming π
D: 20 dollars each I'll just solder up some battery holders that'll put AAA's in series.
Same issues with my network, has been rock solid and now its smattered with network errors, none of my motion sensors work any more π¦
I reverted back and managed to get z2m working again. But half of my devices isn't responding or very slow. 75% of all end devices arent responding anymore. Why in the hell did I update... π
Holy shit, zigbee 3.0 livarno bulbs, buttons on sale at 2 euros a piece in Dutch LIDL right now
Gateway with 3 e27 rgb+ws bulbs 15 euros too
Chuck the gateway in the bin and you have a great deal still
Nice! Unfortunately not what I am searching for atm but great deal!...I need small E14 zigbee lightbulbs for my ceiling light. I got some E14 bulbs from Ikea at the moment but they stick out of the fixture π¦ and I don't want to buy the overpriced from Hue. So if anyone got an advise...thanks in advance!
I'm going back to a full backup from 2 days ago - pre update. So hopefully when it comes back online I will have at least some of my network back π¦
As far as possible
Is there a decent way of pairing a Philips SmartPlug (not bulb) directly to my Zigbee network?
Yes π I use one with Zigbee2MQTT
"Hold down power button (side of the switch) about 10 seconds, release once it blinks and then turns green" puts it into pairing mode, and should be adoptable by ZHA or Z2M
It also acts as a router, btw
awesome! Do I start from "red" Then?
Unfortunately not in the one near me. Not any home stuff to be found.
I found hue motion sensors for just over $30, so I ordered 4, hehe. They were just over $50 last I checked
Iβd make sure to buy the new gen ones if possible. You mightβve gotten a discount because theyβre the older model
Brand new latest hardware revision should be $39.99

I have a skyconnect stick. After the recent update I noticed it could be enabled under hardware. I enabled Then this happened.
Any ideas ?
this error shows a nortek 2 in 1 zigbee zwave stick connected (HUSBZB-1) not a skyconnect...
Hey y'all should be getting my Skyconnect stick this week for my RPi4. Right now I'm running ZHA on a ConbeeII. Just wondering what people's experience are doing the migration? I have Aquara, xiaomi, echostar doorbell, and Ikea devices.
I plan on following the instructions of this video
Hopefully it's as easy as that
It is a sky connect. It came up after enable matter
Sadly can't share images or video here. Everything worked fine until matter was tried to be enabled
And I don't have zwave
Suppose something buggy with update
Shows as skyconnect in proxmox
No, that just says that ZHA is set to EZSP and lists some examples. (It's not ideal though)
Upload the logs to something like https://dpaste.org/ and send the link here. You just sent one small part
does anyone knows why I can't see deconz zigbee devices in HA?
Recently I have some issues with my Philips Hue lamps. Out of the blue these lamps show blue light whenever turned on by a physical switch. I can't find a way to fix this, all my lamps in my house are now blue when turned on. I can set the light color to a correct one via HA or Hue App but as soon I turn them off and on again, they emit blue light again.
It's driving me nuts. I removed all my Zigbee devices, restarted HA, pulled out all lamps from the sockets, reinstalled Conbee 2 stick, put all lamps in the sockets, setup the whole network and again, everything is blue!
Is there someone who has the same issue or knows what to do? Only thing I can think of now is sending back all lamps, because I'm clueless.
I tried to reset the Hue lamps by removing them from the socket for 1 min. Is there any other way to set the lights to a factory default or are they just broken?
Looks like I now can't connect to any lamp using the Conbee 2 stick. Only the Android Hue app trough Bluetooth seems to work.
While I loved to had it working, it is really frustrating at the moment. I'm about to just remove all Hue's and send them back.
Looks like I found the issue. I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 and I thought to have the hue app installed. However this was the signify app and the philips hue app isn't visible for my phone as it seems not to be compatible. This is where I got on the wrong path and couldn't find the philips hue app. I had to get my wife's phone (newer) to install the Philips Hue app and factory reset all lights trough that and do a firmware update. After pairing and removing, I was able to pair them again with Conbee 2 and got the blue light removed.
It's pretty vague how to do all this and also I'm wondering why these Hue lights had a custom startup that was faulty and eventually ended up not being able to pair at all. To be honest, I wouldn't recommend buying these lights unless you have a compatible phone (not really clear what is compatible, as my Samsung S7 would be that but seems not to be with official Hue app for some reason).
Anyways, 3 days later, spending 4 hours of finding a solution, trial and error things, it's seems to be solved.
However I'm not able to find the reason for Hue light to get a faulty default settings as my HA only set them on/off and I manually choose colors but never choose blue. XD
I was able to reset my hue bulbs with zigbee2mqtt without any issues⦠I just brought a bedroom lamp to the network closet to plug in each bulb and reset
You can set the power on behavior easily
I am enjoying my skyconnect⦠been running for a few weeks now without any problems
Might enable matter soon, just will have to switch z2m to tcp for the zigbee connection
Anyone have any suggestions for where to start troubleshooting an issue when the Zigbee Network becomes unresponsive? I thought it was Z2M that was the issue (it kept giving me a 502: Bad Gateway error) so I migrated everything over to ZHA. Now items show up as available in HA but after about an hour they no longer update or respond to actions in HA. Reloading the integration restores communication but only for a little while. I'm using a Home Assistant Yellow as a hub.
Is your Yellow away from typical 2.4GHz interference sources, such as WiFi routers, active USB 3.0 ports, SSDs, networking cabinets, etc.?
Yes for the most part. There is a wifi node for my mesh in the same room but in the opposite corner about 15 feet away. The yellow is on an open shelf with a NAS nearby but no other interference sources are close. I'll increase the space between the NAS and the Yellow to see if that makes a difference.
@simple abyss I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:

@simple abyss looks like you can't connect your mqtt server
I'd use mqtt explorer first, to check your mqtt server availability

I've tried to use zha
- make sure you add the path to your stick to your docker container
- avoid using /dev/ttyXXX in the config
you better use the device id
which you usually can find by simply running ls -lah /dev/serial/by-id/
to be clear regarding #2 I'm talking about the device forwarding to the docker container
$ ls -lah /dev/serial/by-id/
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 60 Feb 4 18:14 .
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 80 Feb 4 18:14 ..
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Feb 4 18:14 usb-Texas_Instruments_TI_CC2531_USB_CDC___0X00124B00039D0BE4-if00 -> ../../ttyACM0
is this the device id? usb-Texas_Instruments_TI_CC2531_USB_CDC___0X00124B00039D0BE4-if00
or do you mean that I should use /dev/serial/by-id/usb-Texas.... ?
I'm very confused! π I've commented out the device forwarding in the docker file.
stopped the docker compose, restarted with the new configuration and home assistant is still able to find the adapter
I've opened a shell in the container (docker exec -it homeassistant /bin/bash) and when I run dmesg I can see the device in the container too.
Not sure how this is possible..
well, you simply want to make your usb device usable in your docker container, right ?
and yes, your device is /dev/serial/by-id/usb-Texas_Instruments_TI_CC2531_USB_CDC___0X00124B00039D0BE4-if00
the main issue is that I'm not succeeding in configuring the device in hass so I'm trying to figure out where the issue is starting by ensuring that the forwarding is working (which seems to be the case even now that I've disabled it in the docker compose file π«£ )
mmmm.. maybe it is the privileged mode that gives hass the ability to discover the device.
okay mystery solved! it was the privileged option
great !
π
to be honest, I'm running HA in a VM, as I wanted to have the full thing, including the supervisor etc.
π
the version I was running previously, dockerised, was missing a lof of stuff
OK guys I also do have a question, I bought a few of these nice tradfri buttons (on/off)
paired in Z2M, I can see it shooting its on and off in the logs
but once I try to create an automation in HA, I cannot see the on / off states !
only available / unavailable
any idea gents ?
This morgen when I wake up, 2 lights I reset through the Hue app and seemed to work fine last night, are blue again. I'm getting crazy here. I didn't change anything else then hard factory reset, connect to deConz, and left it there.
How is it even possible they start with blue light while I ahven't touched a setting overnight?
Are things changed the way I need to connect these lights in HA? I added addon deConz to be able to go to the webUI of the stick. I added deConz integration. Added 2 lights using deconz web interface, restarted HA and left it there.
I reset now 1 additional lamp and not reconnect to HA, see if that light stays as it is.
The zigbee to matter, is that another way to connect hue lights?
how are you automating these?
I use https://github.com/EPMatt/awesome-ha-blueprints for my ikea remotes, and aqara buttons, and these work great
the only issue I have with my IKEA buttons is that they're a pain to do firmware updates on
Well I am usually creating automations from scratch
But at the end of the day, i do not see the on off states in HA
And regarding the updates, i have no issue updating them in z2m
dunno, mine abort mid-update in half of my attempts
and I have one of those on-off-dimmer switches that flat out refuses to do any updates
I did that at the start, but at some point I just needed stuff to work π
those controller blueprints pair nicely with so-called "hook" blueprints to then actually control lights or media players
thinking about this a bit more, I think my only complaint with the light control is that dimming the lights all the way down turns them off, despite me having set that they shouldn't, and that's a difference from how things worked in the IKEA ecosystem
My Setup:
HomeMatic IP Switch
Philips Hue Lights
Using:
Zigbee (Conbee II)
RaspberryMatic
Everything is set up and running. I am having some hiccups of my switches sometimes tho. I added my ceiling lights to a helper light group and used an automation to turn on/off the zigbee lights. Sometimes only 5 of 6 lights are turning on/off and sometimes all.
It is not completely reliable. I think maybe if I trigger the light switch one of those 6 lights have not the perfect connection and doesn't turn on. So my question is, can I use the zigbee ceiling lights as a repeater to enhance the signal?
that should happen automatically, but not all manufacturers produce routers of the same level of reliability
no, wait, is your switch zigbee?
yeah, my bad, your zigbee network won't help with that
Using a Zigbee group for those lights will probably help though
having said that, your issue still seems to be a zigbee one, because if the switch wouldn't work none of the lights would do anything
I mean the automation is triggered I see that because 5 of 6 lights turn on.
I am using a light group is that not the same?
No
a zigbee group is within zigbee
the light group is just a convenience thing for your HA interactions
A light group is a collection of HA entities, and operating on it is the same as operating on a list of entities - one command is sent per entity
A Zigbee group results in a single command being broadcasted
Okay. I set that up in a zigbee automation in home assistant than
That could solve my problem but still leaves the question: why are my philips hue lamps so unreliable
The problem is that you're sending 6 commands at the same time
Sometimes some of them get lost
Apologies for asking questions but I am really new to MQTT. I downloaded the explorer and it seems to connect
by the way, what is best, calling a z2m group from HA, or calling a z2m scene ?
I'd also like to get rid of the need of HA, if binding was working....that would be good.
at least the switches would still work, with or without HA
absolutely normal questions to ask @simple abyss π
what's your zigbee2mqtt conf looking like ?
side question, are you using a standalone install of Z2M, or did you install it using HA addons ?
I did a new installation of Home Assistant and then used the add ons to install Z2M

@simple abyss To format your text as code, enter three backticks on the first line, press Shift+Enter for a new line, paste your code, press Enter again for another new line, and lastly three more backticks.
```yaml
example: here
```
Don't forget you can edit your post rather than repeatedly posting the same thing.
Even ignoring the formatting, SERIAL and MQTT are very wrong
I followed what was mentioned in the youtube video I used as a guide
Thank you. Will do that
Anyone else using YSR-MINI-01_rgbcct?
There is a problem in automation
If you choose "action - device - turn on" it's not working
If you choose "action - call service - light turn on" it's working properly
Where should i open a ticket? Under zigbee2mqtt or home assistant?
Is there a way to quickly tear down a mesh? I keep trying to remove devices because I want to recreate and readd all but as soon as I remove some they come right back online without pairing. Not sure why.
Itβs like a fucked up game of whack a mole
Make sure they are awake when you remove them
They were but things keep coming back
Also the new devices in the list don't have a remove option
Its like they are phantom devices
They are all lights I removed but keep being re-added
reset them then with joining off. π€·πΌββοΈ then remove power then remove. maybe that will work. if they are coming back they aren't truly removed. debug logging would be good too to see what is happening.
if you really want to wipe everything and start fresh
I do at this point
do the migrate radio option
delete zigbee.db
and with the migrate radio - do the reset current radio or whatever it's called. then form a new network. it will change the coordinator settings enough that the device shouldn't know the coord to be able to rejoin
I am just trying to think about how to re-pair everything. All of my bulbs are on zigbee switches.
i have some issues with aqara zigbee devices becoming unavailable through the skyconnect. googling a bit, i see other ppl are having the same issue. is my only solution to get a different controller?
Z2M or ZHA?
zha
So I removed them all again and the JS dashboard shows 54 and the ZHA config area shows 84
I don't get it
I have a tube zb gateway and using Z2M. I used to get errors when my test and prod server were running at the same time because both couldn't connect to it at the same time. However, it seems like both servers are now able to get events from all my zigbee devices. I never updated firmware on it, so just wondering what happened?
Not a problem, just wondering about the mechanics.
