hey all, i gathered examples from google searchs and other HA users examples and i made this as my main dashboard along with other cards not shown that totals 6300 lines of code. After hours of getting it all set up, i put it as my main page and now everything is sluggish or crashes my app or browser. So I'm looking for something simple and similar to these room cards that will show all the info in each room I currently have on these.

not really looking for how-tos, just looking for suggestions and options.

I'm new to HA and I'd like to create a button that allows me to turn off an entire floor (floor with multiple rooms). However, I can't find any examples with floors and I can't figure out from the documentation how to do it.

(I saw that in the release notes for 2024.4, it was something that was mentioned)

if you are working with a fairly default install, one way would be:

1. make sure all your lights are assigned to their appropriate areas and floors (settings -> areas)
2. make a script (settings -> automations -> scripts) for light.toggle that floor (or area)
3. in your dashboard add a button card and make the entity your new script

Others should chime in too, there are certainly more elegant approaches and there may be some more user-friendly ones as well

Yes, it's a area card, and this area card rejects the floor ID. So, I did as you said with a script, but I would like to retrieve the state of the lamps to display either an icon in a different color if they are on or off, or a message like "floor off" or "floor on" on the button.

How do I control what tabs a user can view on a dashboard? I have a dashboard and my user X see's 6 tabs/views but when I log in as a different user Y they only see 3 tabs/views. So for example I have a tab callled switches that user X sees but user Y does not see it. I can't find where i control this.

I continue to have a problem where my dashboard doesn't load unless I go into the raw configuration editor, don't modify anything (no overwriting at all), and exit. At which point it loads no problem. I've now removed the overwhelming majority of my code and it's still happening so I'm starting to really think it's a bug.

I suggest you look into layout-card to create one dashboard that fits all screen sizes. You might in the process however discover that it's quicker for you to create separate ones. It depends on the complexity 🙂

Morning all! Probably has been asked a lot. But I have this issue from months now, and I want to fix it.My automation to change them dark/light and vice versa is not completing the switch anymore. There are parts in the theme (mostly background) that stays the opposite theme. Like switching from dark to light, cards will be light background dark, and viceversa. What’s going on?

Hello everyone! I would like to add something on my home with a dropdown menu, and depending on what I choose, it should run a different script.
To give a little more context: i connected Alexa to HomeAssistant, and since i have different shifts at work, I would like to use this dropdown to choose which alarm set Alexa should use. I suck at drawing, but what I would like to accomplish is something like one of these two. Can you help me? What do you suggest?

Make an input_select helper. Add the helper on your dashboard in a card (like entities card or tile card). An automation can run different actions when different values are selected in the dropdown.

I have a weather card on my home screen. This card shows me the temperature and current conditions. The entity id is weather.home. If I click on the weather I get a table of forecasts for the next few days. I am trying to look at the data programmatically via node-red but can't seem to figure out which entity I could get the data from. If I look at the weather.home object I see none of the forecast temperatures that are displayed on the weather card. Where can I find the forecast data?

I just found the breaking change announcement that forecast attributes depreciated in March of 2024 and, as you say, you now have to call a service. Alas, I haven't got a clue how I do this under node-red. I didn't think about this when I responded earlier but you won't be able to use a JavaScript variable within a Jinja script (and vice versa). You could put the helper in some sort of helper that they both can access. I'll take a look at your card_mod later to see if it can't be directly incorporated into the custom: button-card perhaps.

I'm not sure of the specifics for HACS that you may see because I have experimental features enabled, but you should see something that this. Card_mod for example can be found by just typing card-mod. The weather card can be found with weather-card; it's the one that currently has 478 stars. The vertical-stack-in-card can be found by just typing vertical.

Is there a way to combine data from two different weather providers into one card? The weather from the ZAMG Integration is super accurate for current weather data as I can grab data from a whether station a couple of kilometers from home, but the integration itself is pretty lack luster and doesn't provide any forecasting options, and says "Unknown" on the card all the time. The default weather Integration from home assistant has forecasting options, but the current data isn't as precise (understandably).

Can I somehow get the current data from ZAMG and then forecasts from the default integration in the same card?

I'd like to get the "partly cloudy" part from the default Integration, but keep the current temp, humidity etc from the ZAMG Integration

I want to keep part of this data that I get when I click the card because it's pretty accurate

If you're using the Sections view, you'll be very limited on customizing the layout. Masonry view is a little less limited, but still pretty limited.
If you want better control over the layout, consider a using the Panel (1 card) view and set it to a Vertical stack card which will contain the entire dashboard. Next, add a horizontal stack card that will contain the cards you want to use for the header-type navigation area. Next, add a Grid card (set to 3 columns, for example) and add the respective cards to each column. (You can add more layout-type cards inside here if you want, so, for example, a Grid card with four columns to create some buttons that are side-by-side.)
For even more customization, consider the layout-card . It is (potentially) difficult to set up and get it just right but it will give you the most customization. If you're new to designing the dashboard, I would suggest going with the Panel and Vertical stack method first to give you a better understanding before trying to use the layout-card.

So, this doesn't quite answer your question but here's something to test. When the ZAMG entity is reporting Unknown, go to Settings > Devices & Services > click on the integration > click the three dots > Reload. Let the integration reload and see if the entity returns to a usable state.
If that worked, make an automation to do this automatically for you. When the entity's state changes to unknown (trigger), then do a call service. Switch it to the YAML editor and add: yaml service: homeassistant.reload_config_entry target: entity_id: "{{ trigger.entity_id }}" data: {}
See if this helps your preferred weather entity from reporting unknown. (I had to do this in the past with a weather integration except mine was unavailable.)

In terms of making a consolidated weather entity, it can be done (once data starts coming back in from ZAMG). You'll probably need to add it to your configuration.yaml. This thread would kind of point you in the general direction: How can i create new entities based on two other entities. Your situation starts around Post 5 with 123's response. (Obviously, you'll adapt it for your own usage.)

You're out of my range of knowledge i'm afraid but it sounds like you have a slow addin that's failing to load, or something doing network-y stuff that's taking over and changing HTTP/S forwards and/or triggering an AV. Hmm, it's possible a bad drive would cause the system to slow down or even halt while loading, but I wouldn't assume it's the most probable cause. Definitely don't rule it out - if you can, pull the disk out, plug it in via an external disk drive or internal SATA connector or NVMe slot, and use a simple SMART test tool like CrystalDiskMark or the manufacturer's SMART toolset to check - but my guess is the same as yours, that it's an addon playing naughties

Especially considering launch-at-boot addons. Did you install anything new recently?

Okay I installed the fork. I'm still not entirely sure how to extract information from the default forecast sensor. It has a lot of data, clearly, but I cannot actually show this data in the Platinum Card. For examplem the forecast service tells me the min and max temperatures, but I can't figure out how to put them into the platinum weather card. HA says that it has only a single entity.

And then that entity has a ton of values inside it.

They must have a state_class to have statistics recorded. You can check in developer-tools/statistics for all the entities for which statistics are recorded. Sometimes there's an issue there related to units or something that also cause problems.

I'm the one who struggled to get my button-card templates to apply last week. (Been out with RL for a while, sorry for the late reaction.)

Turns out, everything you said was correct. At least since I got rid of the "minimalist setup" (i.e. storing my cards in the /custom_components folder -- I still don't know when those get re-rendered, other than a cold HA reboot), both first saving the template, then saving the dashboard, gets me the latest templated card, just like @tribal galleon said. Alternatively, clicking on the 'Refresh' button in the menu works, as @zenith stag pointed out. I've been testing in a toolbar-less mode, so I forgot that this was available to me.

Still wishish for a 'dev mode' where all these caches are off and any regular Ctrl-R will just re-render everything. But this is very acceptable for now. Thanks, everyone!

Once upon a time there was a service call to refresh the dashboard. I used it as a button on the dash but I suppose it would also have worked in an automation. However, it has not been gone for at least the last 18months or so. Don't know what happened to it, and canot remember the name of it :/ I kind of agree with you that an instant refresh would be nice, still, I do like that I manually have to refresh. Kind of like a save button. It's not always you want something to auto save.

From my main HA instance I load a view on a remote instance in an iframe, on my android phone I use a Chrome webapp and it works perfectly and remembers my login details on the remote instance each time I close and re-open the webapp, but on iOS using either Safari or Chrome it doesn't remember the remote login details once the webapp is closed. What do themes really do?
I thought they just defined CSS variables (custom properties), but I've tried accessing one from a browser_mod popup styling rule, and from there, it is not accessible.

I guess the <browser-mod-popup> element gets injected right into the body of the page, and the theme variables are set somewhere below?
Is this just a known limitation to live with? I couldn't find it documented anywhere.

Remember that states are strings even if it is only a number. You need to convert the string to an integer (or a float) before being able to compare the numbers. In the example, you'll notice there is two spots for card_mod. The icon portion is indented under an entity to modify that specific entity. For the background color, you were on the right track in terms of the indention. background: should work. In the example, I selected none.

The decluttering-card templates go into RAW Configuration for the dashboard. Edit the dashboard, click the three dots then choose RAW Configuration editor. (Be careful in here, especially with indentation, because you can break the dashboard.)

Buttons are momentary. You can't really do a on-off-on-off sequence that way unless the button supports a release event.

You might be able to do something with a toggle helper that toggles on each button press though.

You can't disable it, but you can hide/unhide it from the side panel. If you click and hold on the Home Assistant in the side bar for a couple of seconds, it'll put the sidebar into edit mode. You should see Energy with a + next to it there.

When I went to the Home Assistant URL, there was an Install button in the address bar of the browser and it created an "app" on the computer that could be pinned in the task bar. It would show up in the Control Panel as well as an app that you could uninstall.

For example, I have apps for Youtube TV, Youtube Music, and Google Messages. They're pinned in my task bar.

That would explain why the image shows when you use the full path because /media/ is a shared folder on your network Try putting the image in /www/. Also, if the image is in /media, I don't think it will show up if you are outside your network (like at work). But, it will work if it is in /www/.

My dashboard is nothing fancy. Simple, really. This one is from a Fire HD 10. This one uses an animated background (so I cannot screen capture it properly). The big button incorporates a bunch of extra stuff. Timer duration, automation status/toggling, how long it has been on, current kelvin/RGB. The button's background changes based on RGB, if applicable. The little buttons toggle and can navigate to that room's dashboard. There's pop-ups available with some buttons. I need to change the weather radar. I have something different running on the 24" touchscreen that I like better but have not put it on the tablets yet. There's a conditional card that also appears above the weather when Plex is playing. dashboard.yaml which is a little outdated as I've moved some stuff out of it since posting.

I "outgrew" a lot of the stock cards kind of early on. The biggest thing with using the custom cards is being able to use templates (both JavaScript and Jinja) and the Configuration Templates in the custom:button-cards. The custom:button-card has it's own styling capabilities whereas the stock cards generally needed card_mod to make them look a certain way.

@paper stone Believe the themes line is supposed to be indented two spaces (to "place" it inside the frontend section). From mine: yaml frontend: themes: !include_dir_merge_named themes/You'll more than likely need a restart after making that change.

Hi, I have some trouble with the iOS app on my iPhone. The app is so slow and laggy. I tried to remove the app and the corresponding device in home assistant and set it up from ground up but it is still very slow and laggy.

On Safai on my iPhone it behaves the same .

On my laptop the fronted is fast and snappy.

If I clear the frontend cache on the iOS app it is better for some time.

@inland token yaml color: "[[[ return 'red'; ]]]" or yaml color: | [[[ return 'red'; ]]]When you use a single line, it needs to be wrapped in quotation marks. When a multiline character is used, you don't use quotation marks.

Is it the pipe symbol, just > or >- ? I see examples with all of these. Guessing they changed it several times

The | and > are block style indicators; the - and + are a chomping indicators. They have different purposes. (Generally, I prefer to use |.) I wrote about it here: Single-/Multi-line code and Using Quotation Marks

trying to get scrolling buttons in core HA dashboard with only card-mod, I am stuck....```

Ive also tried fiddling with horizontal-stack, but that card too is limited to a single view column width, so wont allow going beyond and compresses to fit inside that.

Is it possible to avoid automations running at HA startup? As an example I have automations running on the Sonos speakers if someone is at the door. As I usually works with my home assistant while my wife are at sleep, it is pretty annoying having her standing in the living room yelling at me for waking her up again. For sure I can turn off the automation but it run as soon as I turn it on again, and if I am going to turn it on later... well then usually forget it.

Usually the way to avoid that is to make you are specifying both to and from conditions in your automation triggers. When HA starts, everything is either in an unavailable or unknown state until the integration that hosts those entities loads. So, for a door opening automation, you'd want something like:
