where not talking about wifi where talking about zigbee network
all my devices on my local network are wired except my phone all te rest is wired to the system
oh, sorry for misunterstanding then
It's literally called #zigbee-archived
@young sigil yes but i had troubel with the device itself not with the zigbee 🙂 but good to know for the future
Then it's probably #hardware-archived or also #zigbee-archived for zigbee hardware 🙂
but as you can see, nobody is angry at you. there's just better fitting places 🙂
Hello
My holidays just finished, I'm gonna die at the work
BUT
I was surprised with job offer, i didn't even look for a new one
Car factory is looking for EV specialist at the prototype department. Sounds interesting , but i dunno yet if money are better
Imagine the awkward Darth Vader "nooooooooooo" from PQ EP3
Lol
100% used
I've never seen that irl
And i work on pretty... Intensive use systems
Either wrongly used or horrible quality
You should probably have opted for WI drives
at least I managed to stop it before it crashed the write and read cyclus as on synology you can get a full raid crash if the r/w cache fails
they work great for what I use it for. plex, plex, plex
ZFS or bust
Btrfs is fine, but I hate the syntax'
Ext4 is also fine for static data
ZFS is just allround great for anything
I bought an expansion unit for my synology im thinking to run my cameras on ext4
dont think btrfs is the best for cameras
synology uses a heavy modified version of btrfs so it works great, but a bit slowdown vs ext4
Going to watch Jimmy Carr today btw - need some political uncorrectness
always funny when someone makes a youtube video of something they created completely diy then no more than a week later make another video about how the parts are no longer available and something along the lines of trying to find a "good enough" replacement
@clear ferry Sure ZFS is good for much, but I dont want to build a NAS. Now I have a NAS with a total of 10 bays that run cameras, plex, sonarr, radarr, nzb, torrent, http proxies, z2m, influx, mysql, logserver and a bunch other stuff at a fraction of the electricity cost of a PC driven NAS like unraid or something. I got unraid licenses, but not using them. My next step is to install the 5 bay expansion (wrongly priced on komplett so I bought it), and put in some more RAM. It barely using 2-3GB ram with everything im running now, and the camera system barely touch the CPU, but going to run it with 12GB ram that will be plenty. Also super easy with the integrated off site backup solution
Synology is ridiculously priced compared to what you get
I'll keep my 220w system thank you, albeit it is 14 years old, but it runs everything I throw at it, and more, and can be expanded easily
synology is absolutely overpriced yes
but the software is very good
hardware wise its meh
ok enough they offer amd with 32gb ram now, but no hardware transcoding so its a no for me
I paid 2500 for the ds1520 (5 bay) and 2000 for the dx512 (5 bay expansion module) on wrong komplett price so I was lucky
I paid 1500NOK for the R510 including shipping from the us, I already had the CPUs and the memory, I added an old msa20 to it last month, currently it has 12 3.5" bays and 26 2.5" bays
Currently populated with 4x10 + 4x6 + 4x2 + 2x300(sas) + 8x600(sas) + 8x1.92TB(SSD)
Im at the level im done tinkering with hardware. I have a tower with an i7 and 32gb ram sitting there that would be perfect for a nas, but when i have the synology i see no point moving.
Do I tinker if it just keeps on running? Except the fortnight updates I run?
I dunno, just saying im happy with my setup except it eating up cache drives. Maybe its reklamasjon, should the nvme not last longer than a year?
Well, yes
Under normal circumstances
It isn't just reklamasjon, it's garanti
You can try at least, they'll probably say you passed the daily allowed data writes
This is why we have RI, WI, MU drives
Cache drives is so 2007
A lot say its no need unless its used as a file nas with many users not my usecase
So i might drop the cache
Your performance will probably plummet since it isn't using a CoW filesystem
Just doing some snapraid similar stuff in proprietary software
Lets see. I dont think plex is even hitting the cache. I have all metadata on an ssd (2x 2gb ssd)
Rest is 10tb 7200 drives
Plex isn't that io intensive tbh
Unless it is transcoding
Metadata offload to SSD is quite a waste
Since it is mostly static data
Luckily hardware transcode
I used the ssd originally with the home assistant mysql issue
Now that its fixed i might retire the ssd
SSDs are quite affordable these days, for a docker ecosystem overall it makes sense, low data footprint, fast deployment
Media on rust is fine
Well I could migrate docker to them
Just to annoy you more im very happy with my unifi doorbell:p
English only please
Suddenly a wild hurensohn austrian appears
@dusky plank yeah it just came out in norwegian by some reason
What is this, Manuel footwork?
Someone tried to kill me, no fun
just brought a Argon EON
Impulse purchase, But I think that will replace my single node ceph setup.
Need to safe Power -_-
I still can't believe I just spend six hours today to manually update a ZigBee device but in the end it worked and smarter because of it 🤣
@hexed spade so i've not used the ble_gateway feature of esphome yet but i read it can forward advertisements elsewhere for processing, such as passive ble monitor. i came across it by accident and have been reading up on it
anyone using an amazon flex rn and is it a total piece of shit when it comes to wifi or am i just built different?
Every single time
ah, thanks
ok thanks, never used esp32 at all yet, other than in the Matter workshop 😉 got a link for that readup? Might be the right time to start with that now Bluetooth support will stop functioning in 2022.7
Esphome documentation or tasmota documentation is a good start
It is literally a 15 minute job from start to finish
why do I throw up a bit when I hear node red?
good, good. I thought it was something wrong with me
Ha-haaaaaaaaaaa
covid is spreading at work now. so fun a week before vacation
No work from home available?
yes, but the bosses are lonely so cant take home office every day
if it was up to me I would not be a work during a covid surge
10% is sick now
at least its some home office here. When I was in the army for 10 years it was no home office :p
I dodged that nonsense
Now I just fix stuff for them
I just realized Tesla front looks like a Porsche 911 with fetal alcohol syndrome
lol
I would resell it
I switch every 4-5 years the last 15 years, now that I finally bought some newer cars I'll probably keep them longer
My Volvo was 3 years old when I bought it, 540.000 discount
I got boring cars now. One volvo and one bmw from 2015-ish. still working without any issues
worst car I had is bmw x5
oh a long time ago 2006 I think
I thought those were nice, with the V10 engine
it was so horrible it leaked water when you used a washing machine
and doors froze during winter
Lol
it was a nightmare
felt so cool climbing out the window at the mall
best compromise car was a xc60 with 250hp
Only BMW's i could ever want is the 7 from the 80s or the 6 from the 70s
I like the xc90 t8, great performance and quality, and a heck of a badonkadonk
I miss my wrx sti - but that become the "wife car"
I just dont want to use more money on cars now as they are all paid down and looks pretty new. Been very careful with them so interiour and exteriour looks so nice
only thing I really would like is apple-thingy in them
I've seen three WRX sti irl, two of them by the side of the road with engine smoking
on the volvo its possible, but need to import the entertainment screen as its not sold in norway
Something I always wondered: Why do americans put the tv over the fireplace? Neck issues anyone, and degraded life span of heat anyone?? anyyyone?
@forest edge probably knows why, he knows everything with fact based sources always
The X5 from the early 00s were so shit. Had so many issues
Really? I've driven two, they were both great
They’re incredibly unreliable
Which is surprising given the sedans from that era weren’t terrible
I’m sticking with my 2000 bmw 3 series for as long as I can. It’s been very good to me
Also not even 100,000kms yet
We’ve got a tv above a fireplace, 2 things with it, it’s barely higher than what you would do normally (and just move the couch back far enough so you don’t crane your neck) and the heat doesn’t really affect it that much
I thought it was V10, but it was v8
Think that’s the generation after. E53 were the shit X5s
The first Gen ones
Rude, I was most definitely alive when it was released
Fits the overall quality feel of the Tesla
don't educate shame me
Gonna take on a light subject today.

I don't have to

weekend! finally
What is weekend?
I only work half weeks anyway

Going on vacation in 10 days
Then I'm working 8h per week from August till December
Thats slacking off
bad value for money :p
Not for me
Be careful @forest edge will complain
nice... but... i fear the same applies there: https://custom-components.github.io/ble_monitor/Installation#step-0-grant-permissions-for-python-to-have-rootless-access-to-the-hci-interface it needs the BlueZ package, which if I understand correctly, is the exact reason core BT doesnt work in 2022.7 because of python versioning
Passively monitors BLE messages from Xiaomi Mijia BLE MiBeacon, Qingping, ATC, Xiaomi Scale, Kegtron and Thermoplus sensors.
I bet @clear ferry is a in closet homeseer user and think it looks fabulous
Got a new keyboard and the very custom integration integrated it as 132 lights, nice.
it's going to expose those all to google assistant as well, isn't it... oh god
<Imagines someone else in the household screwing with you with "Ok, Google. Turn off 'a'">
More that I'll be annoyed when google constantly says "turning off lights - 132 lights are unavailable"
oh and it destroyed the "Turned On" list in lovelace too kek

Help me , my HA speaks some dutch !!
I know it's not right channel, but its almost a meme
Godverdomme
You're right
I usually am
I suppose it might be related to the fact, that i gave admin rights to my 6.5 year old son
That little skurwysyn
Will Smith could slap you for that
it certainly sounds dirty
in a "what did you call me? oh, I have no idea if I should be offended or not" kind of way
Like the polish guy I worked with who told me I should ask the lunch lady for kurwa
Thankfully I know insulting phrases in at least 12 languages
then backs away like he doesn't know you
You really want to expose your email address to a bunch of strangers?
Who could do bad things with it
He’s 13 so yes. Also his name too
name and email is not going to get you into anymore trouble then any person who ever had a busisness card, filled out an online form for a giveway, requested a blockbuster card
while anonymity is good practice, there are some things that are just fine lol
I wonder if I still have my blockbuster card...
There’s a difference between doing that as an adult, and a child who doesn’t realise what info they’re putting online
must be why most childrens games ask for name and email as well
A company who has to protect the data of a child vs just posting an email online
Very comparable
My name rhymes with Lob. And I'm much older than 13. HACKME
Job G, 91, resident of Y'allabama
send me spam pls
i will be sure you get on a email block list
See the spam wouldn’t be coming from my email. Nor from me at all
Yeah i know #zigbee-archived yada yada
So what's your favorite children's game?
_Pin the vulnerability on the donkey _
ring around the heartbleed
Hide and geoblock
Throw cans at norwegians.. you?
No time for games 😆
you sure? seems to me that just going outside your home anymore is a game.. the game of risk lol
Haven't been home in a while. OMW now. Excited.
in a while? was you quarantined in another country?
Well 5 days. Lol
i hear monkey pox is all the rage now in eurpoe but we american's want no part of it so i could see you getting stuck over seas lol
I was out there but that was few weeks ago. Going back in the fall. No thank you to EU summer.
just think, if you had sold your fakecoin er i mean bitcoin before the market tanked you could have retired
Don't you worry about that. I could still retire selling those 😜
not for much longer lol
you may end up owing someone else just to be rid of them haha
You tell me when it goes below $30
ok i'll message you in a week
you can always bunk in the barn when it goes completely belly up
I don't even look at it, I already bought the properties I wanted. But glad you are keeping a close eye for me. 🤣
@dull chasm might even make room for you.. looks he needs a farm hand for his operation lol
growing swamp is hard work i hear
You wish you had some BTC from back in the day right? Could've been kicking back on a lounge chair next to the beach, with 68f weather right about now. Instead, counting sweat beads, under the barn shade, thinking about how beautiful california is 🤣
i've had plenty of opportunities to become lazy rich.. that life wouldn't suit me lol
prob would already been dead from eating too many grapes
silly norwats and your professional sports
Case of sour grapes 🤣 I applaud your dire need to make hard money 👏
It's not like you do much else in Missouri these days
not about hard money, about keeping active. you'll see soon enough when your ass can't get off the couch to get a beer
Lmao. Always losing internet when passing KC as well. All that grass and cow sucking the interwebs
IoC
it's the unified farts when we sense cali's are near
sheesh rüdiger
accurate financial advice. Get off the Internet
Imagine having the government do something about it. Ha
What, your vodka isn't subsidized yet?
Very much taxed to the teeth
Not to get too political, but I'm okay with all this. I just find the difference in reaction from countries curious
We did increase the interest from 0.25 to 0.75 to be fair
We're not quite that high right now, but I wouldn't excepct we're far from it either
Expectations are 2.0 by spring 23 i think
Which sucks for the the idiots with huge mortgages
(read property speculation)
Speculation!!!??? 🤣 best times as far as I could tell.
I'd say it's a bit harsh to blame people for the latest bull market
Only because people don't talk to you
why would you be ok?
inflation is dumb, it's lopsided that further tips the scale causing imbalance
Kommisar Rex 🐶
Ja!
Can you let that?
Nein?
My fat ass actually took the train to work today
€35 cheaper than parking, and i can work 1h each way on the train
Jesus christ how expensive is parking
Parking can be painful if you live near a big city or are somewhere very popular. I have a colleague who pays more for parking at his local train station than I do for my return train trip to my local office. Quite a lot more at that
Parking at my local station is free
Even then that seems excessive pricing. Most I’ve ever paid has been $15 for the day. Currently work is near a supermarket that’s got free parking so I use that lol
just build miles and miles of parking lots and parking becomes free everywhere
we use to have metered parking for along the street sides of commercial building in certian places but I think that has all gone away now
there way parking garage equivalents of that but all you had to do is get the voucher stamped at any of the stores nearby and the parking was free, course it was only like 1-2 dollars or something if you didn't get it stamped
My regular parking spot in Oslo is €55 for a day, the most expensive I've seen is €140 for a day
Or bus routes to mean people aren’t forced to drive lol
That’s a lot
I don't care much since I'm not the one paying
Similar in Stockholm, sick
Those prices just say 'don't come here' or at least 'don't drive here'
My last parking spot in oslo (skøyen) was $12/hour. Ripoff
Sounds like airport parking
I remember when they just straight up doubled the daily cost of parking at the Atlanta airport
That was office parking
When I visited more customers I use to pay $5-600 a month in parking
HPE did, not you
@junior forge Do you need a hug after the pestering you got on Reddit today? 😚
Think I'm gonna order some Beyerdynamic dt990 pro 250ohm
Tried them today, and they are amazing
Thanks @urban wadi ❤️
I had those for years atx. They are quite nice and very comfy, but hair gets inside the driver easily causing them to start crackling after a while
seems like a drastic step to adapt to some new headphones

Is this a normal phase. I’ve been loving home assistant so much that i crave any YouTube videos or podcasts, articles on what to do next.
yes it is. except for the yt videos part
I thought frenk handled it rather well with the pinned and follow-up posts. The original poster seems satisfied even if there are still malcontents that fail to understand. reddit is cancer.
francku uploaded a new video. it's been a full year frenck and you only give us 5 seconds
I agree. It would have been more fun though if he responded in a way they apparently expected. 😁
I still have to complain about this #the-water-cooler channel being so low in the list.
I always have to scroll and find it.
This is very frustrating for disabled people like me.
Vote 1/2 to up this channel
Being Austrian isn’t enough to count as disability
I know how to type man nmap if that helps
I use nmap --script rtsp-url-brute -p 554 <ip>to discover a tuya cameras feed, it brings back https://paste.debian.net/1245467/
there is a pw and a user in there (last line). user & pw seem to be accepted but the feed does not start in vlc
| other responses:
| 401:
That'd be unauthorised
eh, so the listed urls are just tries then I guess
Yes
awesome, I fail spectacularly at this
Yeah, but at least you tried, that's more than most would do...
Besides, today I learned that NMAP has the ability to brute force stuff... which shows how long it's been since I last used it in anger
this thing is weird, https://ipc-eu.ismartlife.me/ works (stream in the browser) but anything else including a homebrew script to retrieve auth and rtsps:// url from tuya api just fails.
also the integration just fails with INVALIDDATA
I wonder what that website is doing
that nmap command might be a blessing for 90% of camera users in HA though, maybe put it in the docs
bruh, 8 year olds shooting 1 year olds
The solution is more guns, obviously
We need bigger guns to shoot all the smaller guns
Enough Teams Meetings for today. My head is going to explode
I've only been fixing my 3d printer, labbing on my nested esxi and had one call
Great day
Im kinda tired of 3d printing. Got my prusa sitting there since I moved in here two years ago, not started once
I think 3d printers collecting dust is a thing.
yeah. people print the boat, then it collecting dust
Lol. I did use them a lot for prototypes and some mounts for the house. But those days are long gone. Got few Prusa units just idling.
BTW never printed a boat 😀
I thought the boat was a right of passage lol
Im seriously thinking of selling the prusa. The value is holding well
yea, mine's been in high use for 2-3 months and now idling for almost a year :/
it'll probably get some use soon-ish. if I can figure out why that stupid IR-emitter isn't working the way I want it to
For those who use AppleTV and Plex note that Infuse Player got a big update with combined series function now that plays much better than the native player
and where in offtopic now
There's no way that software is 100% all in house
never is
it's nearly impossible to do now-a-days and all IDE's have built in ways to grab packages.
its not the software that in house its the threat sigs, anyone can build them based on packet caps. the software itself is all China
it would be irresponsible for developers to build a logging engine, for example
theres no way the threat sigs are all inhouse
they are using paid definitions + inhouse ones for sure
nobody rebuilds the house thats already built
I know this because I found a nasty bug in PANOS and had to sit thru a call with the software engineers and listen to them yell at eachother in Chinese while trying to troubleshoot the issue... turns out to fix the bug they had to break something else that reduce the number of supported sessions the device could handle... I 100% blame agile dev for the crap being deployed into production now days
how did they break session limits 😐
we are all beta testers and we pay tons of $ to do it
yep, all these firewall companys make their end-users beta test
I know because I used to work support for one, the techs never got the firmware before the end-customer
dunno... when the fix came out it had the side effect of reducing session limit by 20 or something like that. but only for that specific hardware
all companyes make end-users beta test: FTFY
customers would upgrade to the latest release, and the techs had to figure out what broke after the fact.
agile dev is a mistake.... waterfall was so nice but people want things faster so here we are
agile is the bane of stability
I guess theres a reason ciscos older stuff was renown
their newer shit like Meraki, not so much
This is so true, they get the hardware after all customers have got theirs. my account engineer dude is still waiting on a new PA-4x lab unit to play with
omg Meraki... I got a free switch that came with a 3 yr license... i enjoyed busting it up and tossing it in the trash... who wants a switch that disables itself when the subscription expires
at least turn into a dumb switch that still works, what a scam
they want to lock you into their ecosystem, and then take it all away from you if you don't pay up their ever increasing licensing fees
yeah and they can increase the renewal costs each year
meanwhile, the company is being sold off to the next angel investor or other shit tier company like Thoma Bravo.
little by little, the US based support is gutted and replaced with techs in India with little to no training.
dont forget that useless "premium" support is an extra $30,000.00 per year per device and in some cases required to be compliant
that "Premium" support doesn't even give you a different tech in most cases
its just the same guys as non-premium, but moves you to the front of the call queue lol
I am in the wrong business.... I need to come up with a pretty dashboard that does nothing and sell it for tons... i dont even have to provide any support after the check clears
I like the other side of that coin, the hardware replacement programs that companies have
where you pay upfront for faster rma/replacement if something is wrong
I like to ask the vendor " hey i am going to give you half a million dollars to renew can you at least send my team some shirts or something" they almost never do
and all it is, is the cost x 2, you're basically pre-paying for a replacement box.
yep lol RMAs.... fun times
yea, they phase out the free schwag when the company moves from "startup mentality" to "profit as much as possible mentality"
and all the veteran support techs that know everything jump ship to better pay
yeah, they get purchased by another company and the vets bail and now its worse because nobody knows the product when you need help
then you get the managers that come in that are all about metrics metrics metrics
strange things going on lately too... Broadcom/VMWare? Blackberry/Cylance? I guess anyone with money wants to get in
yea, their buying up all the known profit centers
I have to fight a battle to make sure my team does InfoSec things and not turn into a glorified tier 3 support.... the managers are oft roadblocks
you know their just gonna slim down everything to operate with the bare minimum while raising the fees
I could use a vacation
i jumped ship last year from that job though fortuantely enough
the sheer amount of firewalls with forwarding rules that allowed all traffic in to their DC....
well thats the "easy" way to just "make it all work" 😄
sooo many RDP rules too....
especially with their IPS configured for "monitoring" mode...
sounds like a small shop with no dedicated security team? I have had to deal with some vendors that do things or say things that make my left arm start going numb... every year I have to perform DD/RA for Equifax... they are idiots
cloud to butt
another vendor had such bad code you could look at other people's records by changing the GET id param in the URL (is it 1995 again?) we bailed on that contract
that just means you can form your own sql queries for your own custom reports!
cloud = bad idea. but how do you get the execs to understand that? you don't because they buy into all the marketing and sales hype.
lmfao and so many of these companies are changing their firewall names from "NG" to "Cloudgen" bullshit
lmfao
"What do you mean we have to spend a bunch of capex to put our stuff in the cloud I thought it was cheaper and magical"
next-generation to cloud-generation. like who buys into this shit?
Everyime a SaaS solution goes down I'm like "well I told you it was not magical and the "redundancy" is not any better than on-prem... Azure DNS goes down... oops ther goes everything but I thought it had failover
but wait, theres government cloud too
at least the govt gets their "own" cloud? lol
its just cloud --verions
versions
Azure government cloud is basically azure from 3 years ago, the ui and all that is older
networking in the cloud is shite
you don't like that black box?
total kludge of routes and ACLs that may or may not work with your virtual firewalls and load balancers... its like all held together with bent nails and tape
virtual firewalls are a joke too
even firewall companies don't know how to setup their firewalls in the cloud properly
big time! had to buy 6 HA pairs for one cloud instance just to get east-west, inbound, and outbound
its all a "try random shit till it works, hope theres no gaping holes"
azure changed their things again? gonna have to rework the install scripts again...
i was starting to calm down and now smoeone got me all riled out about cloud lol
I don't log into the azure portal... it changes every time
i dreaded working with cloud firewalls, none of em are configured even remotely the same
ill let my engineer deal with that 😄
Now let me remind you that hyperv still exists @midnight adder
And people run it
Freely
always random fucking vnets and shit
you get a free license for hyperv with your domain controller smb purchase!
Can we just go back to using 8 bit Atari and Amiga computers with dialup BBS and no Internet?
don't get me started on sharepoint
sharepoint is a hog
or office365
"why are the CPUs all maxed at 100% all the time?" "oh that's just sharepoint"
why don't my sharepoint links anymore
did you upgrade it wrong?
theres a wrong way to upgrade it?
here just go to my sharepoint site pastes URL that is 4 paragraphs long
let me share you this file "whips out sharepoint"
If its not on the front page of the corp sharepoint site you wont find it
spends 2 hours trying to dig something up on sharepoint *finds it * its the irrelevant 4 year old document
spend 2 hours searching up docs, its for a version that was 10 years ago, the entire gui and everythings changed.
its like when you do a google search and accidently click on a result link and its a PDF 😦
when you're backup appliance support tells you it's microsofts fault
vss writers all the way down.
Not a fan of any MS server tech TBH IIS with .net app pools need to die
servers down.. did you try restarting the app pools again
100% ^
now that we got like 2 year expiring certs, those are extra fun now too
"help me install my certificate"
"well, your chain bundle is missing the root certificate"...
certs are becoming useless now... badguys just get all the certs they want from digicert/komodo
everything should include an acme certbot built in these days
also... can we PLEASE standardize the way to install and configure certs on everything
right?
"we need your cert in PEM format"
private key is encrypted with a password and fails
no method for providing the password to said system
we need your key decrypted, we need it encrypted, we dont need it at all, upload using the web UI, upload directly to the server, place in some directory but its not the same as the other stuff
make sure its named right
pk password contains a special character that breaks the import/decrypt
did you edit it with notepad? now its got the wrong endline characters
I have no fear of AI taking over the world if we are in the year 2022 and still dealing with these types of things 😄
yea I write anyone off that thinks AI is even remotely close to being a threat
well thanks for the tech/I.T. rant session time to get some air
lol
I saw hyber-w 🤢
Tru dat.
Cloud is distributed, so inherently difficult to F
haha, we lost 5 hosts at once the other day, they were totally all in the same rack, just an entire cluster, in a single rack, shitty infrastructure design for ten times the price. Hot damn cloud.
Hey, with cloud it may have been 5 machines on the same metal either way
No, it was five hosts, not VMs, five hosts out of a six host cluster.
I need to ask our admins, but I think our 5 hosts are all in the same rack
Then again, I do know that our backup is in the same DC as production env
I think we have a total of 2 racks 😄
We can only lose one host from the cluster either way. Any more and we have to shut down stuff
Oh well, when you are that small.. it matters less.
No customer facing service is on those either way
Just our entire production env for dev machines
Including Jira, bitbucket and teamcity
Im so happy I didnt become a Homey user. They have now everything behind a paywall. Need backup? Please pay! We released a better automation, want it? Please pay extra! And the unit cost over 450USD
if only Home Assistant Yellow was spherical
with a led strip would be awesome
Funny thing is HA yellow is superiour hardware vs homey, even with "only" a PI
I can see it now, Home Assistant Orange, grab home automation by the ball
so this is because they build in the dongles:
Supported Devices 50,000+ 1800 (Integrations)
the comparison table isn't really very flattering
You can only open the door without subscription, to lock it you have to pay 15/mon
not a strong case
Marketing budget
RGB folks! it has RGB
yeah the RGB
next iteration of home assistant to buy as product has to be Home Assistant RGB, F that blue and yellow kindergarten
see we are brainstorming here
Home Assistant: Dictator Edition
last night I had my balcony door open. a marten got up to the third floor and pissed in my living room. wtf
Well deserved
I will destroy him next time, camera is installed mr. marten!
So like any customer who ever bought Cisco UCS then, every four days when the ToR died randomly
Lol one of my "tech" friends bought it, he didn't have time for messing around
My HA box has dual 10G, 128GB RAM, 90+TB storage and 24 cores, that should be advertised in a spec sheet somehwere
well you are just compensating for other things
Mr Hands ?
dont get me started on that topic
Anyone have a 433Mhz receiver they use for receiving all the signals for kinetic buttons? that they would recommend?
Think I'm being a bit dense here...
Are there any native clients/programs for Windows that can connect to ser2net devices? I think I'm simply having half a stroke here and it'd probably be super easy but nothing I search for comes up with anything useful 🙃
If you put it in a ball it would be spherical
It could be worse, could have been a trash panda....
it is in the name, it presents a serial port over an ethernet network, so anything that can open a tcp\udp connection? telnet is readily avaliable
What does it do
Configuring iSCSI presentation
In a proper context based CLI
I ordered this one for my wife, but she didn't want it so now it's mine

Wifey making me one 😍
how is that even possible in 2022? having a "password" password?
I have root root and root admin in some places
i use root root on my router and wifi access points
Just usw. wep for wifi. Then you can always recover
my phone pin code is 1234
9️⃣
At least now I made my doorbell say "go away" when someone is ringing it
the raison d'etre of Home Automation
I have been uber effective today with ui creation
Again I'm glad I haven't run a consumer router in 22 years
Says the one who ran linksys velops recently
Not as a router, or wan exposed
Easy solution: https://openwrt.org/
Welcome to the OpenWrt Project The OpenWrt Project is a Linux operating system targeting embedded devices. Instead of trying to create a single, static firmware, OpenWrt provides a fully writable filesystem with package management. This frees you from the application selection and configuration provided by the vendor and allows you to customi...
Argh. why is it so hard to decide if I want to organize the HA UI in entities (lights, blinds, switches etc) or rooms (living room - lights, bedroom - lights) etc. Whatever I do is something not feeling right
Except, if you read the article, you'll see one of the example URLs is /cgi-bin/luci
Lulz openwrt

Oh no, all commercial routers are exploitable, let's run the same software that 99% of other people think isn't exploitable
Bigger attack surface, more likely to be affected
it dosnt specify which version however + i'm running arm and not mips
Except for the kernel the code base is probably 100% the same
More chance of openwrt to be patched than a generic consumer router firmware
That’s also true, still is an option once it gets patched
Because consumer stuff rarely if ever gets updates
Nothing beats Unifi 😍 🥰
there are also many routers, that use openwrt 18. something as their os that are still being sold today
which is 2-4 years old
its likely that those routers are affacted
For my sanity I’ll assume that this is a British or Japanese model
Driver seat on the right.
Or could just be someone inside that jumps over the middle console and drives I guess
I see someone also browses programmer humour
no sir I do not
I don't know where to start and ask about this but I have a relay that is controlled with 433mhz RF. Is there a simple way to add wifi support or replace it with wifi? Using a nodemcu or something like that
#hardware-archived is probably what you wanted, or maybe #diy-archived

Countdown to vacation
No need, it already started
There is a strawberry growing out of my strawberry
inception
Ok telegram, will do
Anyone wondering - Yes thats whats coming in german google results
Vacation, got home and fell straight asleep. Im almost 40, I need extra sleep!
For some reason I sleep less at 38 with two kids than at 30 with no kids
what do you guys think about fortinet products? I want a NGFW
looking at paloalto also, their price seems less bound to service fees
Well
They are utter shite
In my experience
Just a few weeks ago I was helping a customer install some new fortiswitches, he had to reboot them to get the mclag to form
And their fortirouter refused to linkup with 40G DAC passive cables
Let's say it like this, I've seen three customers with fortinet products the last 15 years, mostly the only reason I saw them was because they were having issues with them
Palo is fine... But their application centric firewall bullshit works 70% of the time
So that's a no from me dawg
hmmm what else is out there? I expect their ML techniques to keep more unwanted traffic away from my exposed services than Opnsense can provide.
getting really malicious requests lately from CN
Well, geoblocking will get rid of most of it
Then do suricata
Key based login on everything and MFA
You'll be golden

problem with geoblocking in my case is that my proxy sits in the dmz, I should really move it to its own network and route all of it through Opnsense instead of sending the ips to fail2ban (and blocking them with iptables) from it
Yes
Too fucking hot to sleep... What's the point of living up in the north when it's still this miserable
A senior Google engineer says one of the company's artificial intelligence systems has become a sentient being.
The technology firm has suspended Blake Lemoine for breaching confidentiality rules -- and insists there's no evidence its AI chatbot is now free thinking.
A spokesperson for Google said while chatbots can imitate conversation, they...
spoiler alert - it hasn't
how hot is it?
and please dont cry me a river that 25°c is "hot"
cry me a river, i had to sleep at 32°c inside already
I'll sweat you a river
i sweatted myself a whole lake already
move up further north if you want it cooler
i heard svalbard is a great place for warmth hating people like me
I guess I'll have to soon. But then the winters will be even worse
Need to find a place where it's constantly +18-22
and if it goes to negative then it's pretty much exactly -5
dont you have a heatpump?
nope
you must be rich if you live up north, get one
maybe some day
whats hindering you?
I live in an apartment
there are even heatpumps for that case
Sure, but this sort of weather is rather unexpected around these parts. It was 31 today and we've had years when it never went above 25 which even has a name, helle
dis is a cool village
Hell (Urban East Norwegian: [ˈhɛlː], Trøndersk: [ˈheiɽ]) is a village in the Lånke area of the municipality of Stjørdal in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the western part of the municipality, about 3 kilometres (2 mi) south of the town of Stjørdalshalsen. The 1.04-square-kilometre (260-acre) village has a population (2018) of 1,589...
Hello hello
Why is it back-to-front?

Weird. The selfie camera on my phone doesn't do that.
Good morning! 😴
You slob
weekend \o/
I don't have any vacation until August this year D;
July is the vacation month here in Norway. Nothing is happening
Then why go on vacation when everyone is doing nothing? 😄
True :p Before I worked in July and just slacked off at work
also, I don't care about school vacation. Which gives me a bit more flexibility with my vacation schedule 🙂
yeah I dont have and kids so I dont care much
First year I've taken 4 week vacation in 18+ years of working full time
HR loves that I'm getting rid of my 60+ days of vacation
We are a startup, so trying not having too many days extra or overtime
I hate pulling up a dev project a year later and nothing works as it did cause of new python requirements
I had That Just this week
Ok, this is now a different exception type. That makes More sense in context, but isn’t caught by my Code. Great
yeah I pulled up a 13 month old api that Im going to use as a HA integration
I loose motivation debugging my own code hehe
Its a universal law you dont remember you own code
And it rots surprisingly quickly
yeah. I think I will just start over with python 3.10
as I understand HA support 10 now
need your help senpai
For everyone who uses snapchat
They updated snap maps so you can get the exact location of people
You can get GPS locations and get directs to anyone sharing their location
If you don't want people to have the chance to stalk you then do these steps
- Go to the maps section on the left
- Click the cog wheel and turn on "ghost mode'
You have to take a look at my opnsense rules at times, I don't feel confident 😄
I'm sure that makes it even worse
No, no rules = no traffic will ever pass
Default deny rule
I'm pretty sure some stuff does default allow then you have to deny
_ubiquiti perhaps _
just trying to get my proxy working again then I can screencast my opnsense... rn nothing works 😄
cannot. access. internets from dmz 😭
Outgoing traffic? That is all allowed by default
not in my case
not really outgoing, there is no gateway specified on the interface. have to go through opnsense
you will laugh at me when i do

He'll laugh either way, you know that
I'm trying to learn ospf these days, I should have years ago
You'd laugh at my routes
Mind you, I'm on vacation
And I also promised country management I'd learn them our most advanced portfolio in 4 h after vacation
oh, ok i wont disturb your vacation
...
created the interface on proxmox, cannot specify a gateway
can access my lan services from the proxy fine with port forward rules from the new zone,
just can't get out to the internet
opnsense of course has all 3 interfaces connected
Does the proxy have a default gateway? And if you ping 8.8.8.8 from the proxy and go to firewall logs and insert it's ip as source in the filter rules, does it show anything blocked?
traceroute to 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets````
seems like it does not know a gateway, no thats the problem 😛
nothing in that table
oh
it just took a second
Webserver:~$ sudo route
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
default 10.0.5.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 ens18
10.0.5.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 ens18
172.17.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 0 0 0 docker0
172.18.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 0 0 0 br-14bf34dea4b4 ```
so it does have opnsense as gw
Can it ping opnsense?
nope, icmp is filtered i guess
port forward to lan works fine however
can curl 10.0.5.1:80 and it gets the response from lan
And if you just for lulz add a top rule on the firewall of the DMZ interface with allow * * * * does it work then?
Well, that'll show if it is a firewall rule or not that is breaking your flow
Rules are not logged by default, I've been fooled before by not seeing traffic blocked
But it was me who didn't enable logging on the rule
yeah thats not the way to go I can ping my lan from the proxy now
I don't think it's PC to say that anymore
They are fruits of juicyness these days
growing veggies for ants i see
cherry tomatoes yes
You haven’t lived until you have eaten a proper tomato sandwich.
Wonder bread, mayonnaise, garden fresh tomato slices, salt and pepper
dont forget the egg
Well, then it isn’t a tomato sandwich
just tomato on bread is nasty
you would get more flavor just putting ketchup on bread
Only if you eat store bought tomatoes.
They grow varieties bred for ease of transport, not flavour.
it's a tomato...
There is a True Scotsman, and it is @clever mortar
They changed the glue pads of the aqara contact sensors. I don't like change D:
A tomato is not a tomato
Its like saying all bread are the same.
If you’re in America you probably only get one type of bread. Super processed plastic
I've seen at least two kinds of loaf in Murica!
a raccoon and which else?
I have been using firefox for a while now. is it me, or is it faster than chrome?
samitimes firefox go fast samitimes krom go fast
but firefox not so hunreh, needs less ressources
true. I do wed design in elementor, and there its a huge speed difference. I think chrome is just eating resources even if I run a m1 max mac with 32gb ram that should run circles around resource use
I skipped both and went for opera
Zooom fast
Chrome is a shitshow
Firefox is fine, but eh
Chromium is usable too
Brave isn't too bad either
I have not used opera since forever
lets just use netscape navigator!
Well, that is Firefox
Isn’t opera just chromium with a fancy spying cover?
Try safari on your mac. When I had one I found it worked a lot better than anything else
yeah could be. Im just not too used using safari but I can try
everything seem to be chromium-based so its not really a preference other than name anymore
Firefox, safari, chromium are the 3 really lol
Would you please help me
I need Home Assistant full installation and configuration step by step guide
This is not a support channel, but here you go https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/
Firefox is based on the Gecko Engine
As in the main rendering engines. Can’t remember their proper names. But it’s the Firefox one, chromium one, and safari one
I just don’t remember the actual engines
Complete opposite lmao
yeah now i get it

cute piggy nose
I do agree what you call a tomato is not a tomato lol
growth hormone fed tomatoes
My fully naturally grown tomatoes from seeds are quite scrumptious
My strawberries are coming along too
how much would that produce?
Blackberries, raspberries, blackcurrant, redcurrants, Apples and more
I'd be fine with just strawberries for berries
My 20 plants make quite a bit, currently there is 50 or so fruits on them
And it does multiple batches
Usually I will probably get 200+ berries with very little work
nice. My grandparents used to grow these and they were just amazing
its nice to have some variation if you grow a lot
only one fruit gets stale over time and you dont enjoy it as much anymore
Looking good 👍

how is
different from 💥 lol
and why do we have
when we already have 🤌
Asking the deeper questions today I see
and

i wonder if discord used to only support an older version of unicode or smth
Who could have predicted that the invention of unicode would lead to emoji? Clearly leading to the downfall of humanity
didn't emoji start in the times of codepages?

and distracting us from real problems by making an upside-down cheeseburger: https://phandroid.com/2017/11/28/android-8-1-hamburger-emoji/
why do almost all of them make the hamburger emoji into a cheeseburger
A burger with a beef patty, usually depicted on a sesame bun with cheese, lettuce, and tomato—making it a cheeseburger, though officially called Hamburger by Unicode.
Yellow key room is damn psychedelic

making a burger without a slice of cheese should be illegal
A slice? Just one measly wafer of cheese?
Don't even think about that thing that the Americans call cheese slices
I do like some gorgonzola on my burgers
You are a gorgonzola
And American cheese is literally the best cheese in the world for burgers
American cheese > actual cheese when it comes to burgers
It melts "better"
American cheese is still processed stuff, so not actual proper cheese

It isn't cut from a block
You need to go to France ||and get lynched||
Imagine thinking there's a single frenchman alive that could take me
It'd be all of them...
But no seriously, American cheese is the king for burgers
Just the melt quality alone
But it's a blend of cheddar and colby
I'll take some monteray jack , provolone or Gouda any day
You'd be wrong
Jarlsberg ( YARLZ-burg, Norwegian: [ˈjɑ̀ːlsbærɡ]) is a mild cheese made from cow's milk, with large, regular eyes, originating from Jarlsberg, Norway. It is produced in Norway, as well as in Ireland and the US state of Ohio, licensed from Norwegian dairy producers. It is classified as a Swiss-type cheese.
Quite good on burgers too
Cheese should be like a condiment to a burger. That's where the american "cheese" is perfect
Ah, so bland and non intrusive, then I agree
Extra liquid fat without flavour
Because its manufacturing process differs from traditional cheeses,[8] federal laws mandate that it be labeled as "process American cheese" if made from combining more than one cheese[9] or "process American cheese food" if it contains at least 51% cheese but other specific dairy ingredients such as cream, milk, skim milk, buttermilk, cheese whey, or albumin from cheese whey are added.[10] Products that have other added ingredients, such as Kraft Singles that contain milk protein concentrate, use legally unregulated terms such as "pasteurized prepared cheese product".[11
When you put it like that it sounds a bit icky. When you put in in your mouth though 🤤
