Only in countries with indoctrinated false beliefs of freedom, I haven't signed a non beneficial to me document or complied with a tech policy the last 15 years that would limit my or my company owned hardware LeoLaugh

So, o365 still works fine in Linux, on opera, and the Ubuntu client for teams works fine

I've only been in the company for 15 years

umbral cliff
#

And were you hired into an entry level position with the company 15 years ago?

clear ferry

actually, I was hired as a junior, but I'm more experienced on most aspects than my collegues who have worked there for 30 years

umbral cliff
#

So not someone easily replaceable

clear ferry
#

currently no, since all the people who work with the mission critical stuff I do is either dead or retired

umbral cliff
#

I think here if they were to try pay cuts they have to get at least a majority of employees to agree to one, might be higher

clear ferry
#

from my understanding the US guys had to accept it, or look for a new job

Was working at my uni when I was still there, turns out the Union screwed us (us being casual professional staff) over and removing our right to vote on pay decreases lol

clear ferry

LOL

#

I've never heard of anyone who got a pay decrease outside of the US

umbral cliff
#

The uni was going to give it to us, the Union negotiated it out a few years ago

#

Was relevant in 2020 when the uni held our pay increase back 12 months due to Covid

#

So technical pay decrease

clear ferry
#

yeah, with last years inflation no pay increase is a decrease in pay relativly speaking

#

I'm still nagging my managers for it weekly

Training (like a uni degree) just jumps you to a decent paying job straight up

Thinking it's time for me to leave the cult of Apple, so planning to sell couple of desktops/laptops/phones, suggestion what to look at phone/laptop that is not apple ? 😄

umbral cliff

#

requirement for pad is that it should kinda only be able to work with pdf or distractions is too great, and it should have color. Had my eyes on this: https://shop.boox.com/products/novaairc But I dont know, screen drops res when using color; only manufacturer that solved that somewhat is bigme

forest edge

I have a seperate machine that runs the majority of my docker containers and then of course I have yet another seperate device for HA that runs a few containers/addons as well

neon flower

Well there are many problems here, pretty sure I've overcomplicated stuff, messed up, and I'm slower then normal ppl

forest edge
neon flower
#

Probably, but it will take me at least a week, so I wont start that now.

A week to setup what? Installing opnsense and doing a basic config I less than 1h, migrating a VM backup to the production system takes less than 10 minutes

Hey I seem to have a problem getting a key based auth set up with my homeassistant instance.
Steps I took that should work:

  1. ssh-keygen -t dsa (Yes I need a dsa / dss key pair)
  2. entered passphrase on ssh-keygen and path ( /config/ssh/id_dsa)
  3. authorized the id_dsa.pub key on my other machine ( the user seems to be root@core-ssh )
  4. the comand I use to connect to my other machine (yes with old algorithms) ssh 'root@core-ssh'@192.168.178.178 -oKexAlgorithms=+diffie-hellman-group1-sha1 -oHostKeyAlgorithms=+ssh-dss /config/ssh/id_dsa -o StrictHostKeyChecking=accept-new

clear ferry

Now try aliases

neon flower
#

Yea that is how I did set up all portforwards, or hosts and ports

#

Then I suppose I wanna get rid of adds, been using pihole, and on pfsense; pfblockerng. What d you suggest for this ?

#

Mostly used piholes for resolving local stuff, like esp's

clear ferry
#

I use DnsBL

neon flower
#

addonthingy ?

clear ferry
#

No

#

It's built into opnsense

neon flower
#

opendns/unbound ? 🙂

clear ferry
#

Unbound yes

neon flower
#

it has iz own general!

clear ferry
#

Now setup DNS over TLS too

neon flower
#

Well it's a lot to take in 😄

#

and then I need openDNS also ? nooope

#

I dont get it, I still need like a piehole or something ?

#

Videos I find are in weird languages

#

Right, think I found it

clear ferry
#

Yes

neon flower
#

then how do I make it resolv local stuff like: lightbulb1.local ?

clear ferry
#

Stop using mdns is a great start

neon flower
#

cant get around it, it's an esp

#

esphome, so in order to flash I must use name or it wont find it.

clear ferry
#

ESP supports regular DNS fine

#

I do that

#

Esphome does too

#

And tell your DHCP server to propegate DNS

neon flower
#

Well I'm esphome and does not find them :/

clear ferry
#

It's all here

neon flower
#

so solution is to set static for all

last dirge
#

static FTL

#

DHCP reservations FTW

neon flower
#

thats how I did it 😄

#

but still search for mydevice.local

clear ferry
#
wifi:
  ssid: "kakashi"
  password:

  domain: .eirikzlab.local
  use_address: alvakjokken.eirikzlab.local

captive_portal:
#

Tada

neon flower
#

so it means go collecting alls esp's in order to even flash them

#

meh

clear ferry
#

No

#

I changed from mdns to DNS OTA

neon flower
#

cant do OTA if it cant find them 😄

clear ferry
#

Mdns usually "works" fine on the same subnet, so if it doesn't right now, that is layer 8 probably

neon flower
#

had same issue with pfsense, so I used pihole to resolv local

clear ferry
#

So, is everything on the same subnet?

neon flower
#

at least all esp, got an iot-net for all stuff with home assistance etc.

clear ferry
#

So, if esps and esphomes are on the same subnet, mdns will work out of the box, usually

neon flower
#

But I see how adding domain will solve it, however I must firm take them all out in order to flash them

#

have a docker running esphome

clear ferry
#

In host mode?

neon flower
#
    container_name: esphome
    image: esphome/esphome-amd64
    environment:
      - ESPHOME_DASHBOARD_USE_PING=true
    privileged: true
    ports:
      - 6052:6052
    volumes:
      - /home/iot/docker/esphome:/config:rw
    restart: unless-stopped```
clear ferry
#

So no

#

That is why mdns isn't working

neon flower
#

great 😄

clear ferry
#

Now recreate it in host mode

neon flower
#

but it will still be sassier to run .mydomain

clear ferry
#

Yes

#

But first you must see them

#

Without pulling them down

#

So, make it run in host mode

neon flower
#

meh I read everywhere that hostmode should be avoided with that docker

#

so thats why I had it like this

clear ferry
#

Even the official docs say host mode

#

So no idea where you got that from

clear ferry
neon flower
#

But Im not that more stoopid that when I'm told I'm wrong; I'll redo it 😄

#

oh well, they are still all offline

clear ferry

They shouldn't be

#

Have you tried pinging them from the host running esphome?

#

Assuming said host is in the same "VLAN" as the esphome devices, and isn't multi homed

neon flower
#

not sure what I did change, but now ssl is dead

#

my guess is that dnsstuff got something to do with this

clear ferry

#

or something is wrong with routing

#

not sure what is what, it worked 10 mins ago

#

aparently it's due to nat reflections not being enabled.

clear ferry
#

That looks like dns issues

#

Since it could not resolve a public DNS name

neon flower
#

works when I turn off unbound

#

Well still it doesnt resolv, but at least it fetched a new cert

neon flower

it's like nat reflection doesnt work

#

fuck I dont know, been doing it for 14h straight

clear ferry
#

NAT reflection has nothing to do with reaching stuff outside your network though

neon flower
#

oh well, when swag (nginx) cant get cert, nothing resolvs

#

great, issue seams to be that I cant resolv anything from that box 😄
