give me all the junk
i will take it
lol oculus imagine giving money to facebook
meta
lol VR meet smart home. made me think of someone putting on a VR headset to virtually flip a light switch to turn on a real world light then taking the VR headset back off
It is a curious combination. HA being "privacy first". 😛
But I guess there's already Google integration, so Facebook isn't much worse.
Neither of which are enabled unless someone intentionally does so, hence privacy first ;)
In theory, you don't need the light at all if the headset helps illuminate the area via the screens
<walks around house with Jason mask on>
Scream better smh
shits on zucks doorstep
Panic at the disco
but why.
notice me senpai
Money flex
I used decade old ethernet cables in my house today.
mainly because i used MoCa until now
be proud of me
Laid cat 7, so not a lucky day after all
Fiber nics why
just joking, I'd run fiber before cat7 tho
What situation would you need cat7 for? My old cables are easily supporting the 750/750 mbit internet connection I have. I guess device to device? Something like a NAS and working directly on it?
was more picturing those people who "automate" their lights and remove any manual way of triggering them whatsoever needing to use VR to see a virtual light switch to flip lol
I used moca until now as said and i had constant 5ms delay on top because of that
i got rid of it, constant 1ms now 🥳
Only one step away from a new HA integration.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QS4fzElm8zk
I created a Game Boy cartridge with built-in WiFi. At the moment, there are only two demonstrations, a simple serial communication and getting articles from Wikipedia. However, getting to this point was not as easy as it might seem...
Schematics, source code and detailed explanations can be found at
https://there.oughta.be/a/wifi-game-boy-cartr...
moca?
whats wrong with your network you should be getting a fraction of that 😛
i do
you got everything running at 10/half
moca is ethernet over coax
Ah
thinnet is all you need
I just did a test, which is PC to Switch to Switch to Router to WAN, using assorted old cables from a box I had lying around
Maybe I could shave that 2ms down to 1ms? 😄
I did consider if I might need better cables some time, for the NAS scenario mentioned above.
But right now, my hardware only supports gigabit, so I'm not sure it'll make much of a difference.
If you don't solder it directly to the port, how can you know the connection is good?
I connect a car battery to one side and test with my tongue
only the highest quality gold plated ethernet connectors
Ohh, that's a clean connection, no dirty malware is going to get through that.
Gold plated TOS link cables are the best.
7 cats got laid.. wut
It tool me sometime to decipher the laid cat7
yes the rest of the world uses a diffrent kind of cable then tree hugging cali's.. we don't use barkfiber
I am truly jealous of the love you have for California
'love'
in the same sense that californians 'love' other people right?
(they dont, they just say they do to make themselves feel better)
Hmmm it's one love
been semi stranded at home for a week
yea starter on the truck is dying and can't get into a shop till the 11th lol
called one place and they quoted my almost 500 to replace so I told them where they could stick that quote but finally found another shop that hadn't lost it's marbles
no shortage of work, gotta pay
so in order to use unify products such as cameras etc you have to have a unify protect system of some kind?
yes
you could use something else and just use rtsp but then why buy unifi
right now I would not recommend unifi cameras
stock is way too limited
I've got udm-pro, usw24pro, like 8 cameras
can you like install the controller software on something else? I assume that's what the protect is part of?
no, you can not
man i hate close ecosystems
only way to run protect is with udm-pro or nvr
I found a thing that says you can use the ap's without a controller using some app but it didn't say you could do that with anything else
I don't mind since its all running locally on my udm-pro
two different eco systems, they don't use the same software
you can self host the ap/switch/router controller
technically I guess the camera recordingg is self hosted too
killed two of my g3 flexes, not so water proof upside down 🙂
was looking at the new G4 doorbell pro but the original G4 in the instructions listed needing protect so wasn't sure what that meant
With a loop in the cable for rain/freeze?
no exposed cables, its just not water proof enough
Or UDR
That thing is kinda sweet
you'll need protect
The better udm called udr with 6ghz Wi-Fi
Then say udmp. Udm is another product
Lol
UniFi dream router has protect built in with a bit of emmc storage and an sd card slot
Crazy little device for $79
i take it the cloudkey is the cheapiest way to get protect when you don't need or want a router?
its more than $79
I know someone with a ck gen 2 used to sell
i just feel like im being observed whenever i use unifi
Lol
the UI and everything makes me suspicious
that's in your head.. you being observed has nothing to do with ubiquiti
5 eyes already has you covered
Unifi Dream Machine Pro is the router here
eh, I just go opensource and know what runs my net
haven't seen that model
opnsense and openwrt, perfect combo
Like unifi ap's ptp and ptmp but anything udm no thank you.
I'll go someone else on ptp and ptmp
Never failed just Edgerouter fan
wut? I almost went openwrt instead of opnsense.. may still switch down the road
only use unifi stuff at home
I tried various APs (Cisco, HP, etc...) and I found the ease of setup for the Unifi stuff to be easiest for me.
I got one for my mom. 2/5/6 with 2 Poe ports and emmc storage for $79 it’s a fuckin steal (udr)
I really like that g4 doorbell pro's feature but f that having to buy another device just to use it bs
just use OpenWISP, you are fine
The UniFi protect hacs addon is sweet for hass
I work for a CLEC, kiss at home
you mean the sensors to tell when a device is connected to a network etc?
i mean, if you like ADs in your admin UI, I won't stop you from buying way too expensive stuff 😎
No I mean to add protect cameras and entities and stuff to hass
oh
never seen an AD
Like my pic above
well i have no issues with any of that with what I got
448 votes and 266 comments so far on Reddit
nor do I think a company announcing their products within their eco system is a big deal
@forest edge people blow shit out of proportion
it's also that whole subscription nonsense
@clear ferry loves unifi, talk to him 😄
I do have to admit, thier hardware for direct comparison is kind of on the lacking side. seems like your paying mainly for the software then anything else atleast with the non rack mounted routers
there are no subscriptions
Never brand loyal. 😆 unifi ap x 8 + Edgerouter. I am happy.
You live in a castle 🏰?!
you're thinking meraki, where you spend $$$$ then your shit stops working because accountingg forgot to pay the subscription
i knew it
godamn flying buisnessmen.. can't trust them
close to a castle.. he lives in a sea of homeless all trapped inside an inescapable fenced off yard
big baller so many aps
Devices will lose controller support in a controller version that is released AFTER the EOL date, and it will be clearly announced in release notes. In other words, it should be clear to the user before the upgrade happens, that the upgrade will terminate support.
F that
I know a guy that has a 7k sqft house and ran 8-10 APs in it.
that means, that new verisons of the controller will no longer manage older devices
depends what they mean by support
as long as the devices continue to work then it's fine
fairly common for companies to EOL devices
but if they cut those devices off.. f that
device will still work, just can't be managed
doesn't change the fact that the devices are perfectly fine but cannot be used anymore with new versions.
You think I'm weird? 🤔
no reason for that puking
which leads people to want to use old controller versions just for them
can't be managed sounds like they cutting it off lol
which you are free to do
clearly worth the premium, yep
I think your going to fall down the stairs one day searching for that virtual light switch
Good that I can only afford one floor then 😉
things going EOL is just the nature of the game
Their products last years before going eol
not cutting them off to where they practically become paper weights isn't nature of the game lol
Look how long the ap AC pro has been going strong
its not reasonable to expect development lines to be maintained indefinitely
There was a point where I figured that you'd want to upgrade before they went EOL, but a) I have a bunch of them and it's expensive to replace them all and b) I don't really see a compelling reason to want Wifi6
my tp link archer c7 isn't going out of support with OpenWRT for at least the next ten years
Ya but then you’re using tp link lol
tp link going to release firmwares for it for 10 years?
yea he's running openwrt
What does being tp link have to do with it?
the device is just a slave to a new software
Their omada line is popular and not consumer spaceships tho
tho ubnt should have stopped at cameras
I've never heard of or seen a single person use their phones
gotta send someone up a tower to replace an af24hd soon
installing wireless gear is a shitty job, and I mean all the bird poop
Never knew you were into strange things like that. Then again you are from Missouri, anything is possible.
acceptable trade off
isn't that like a seagull or something? that's your part of the woods pal lol
"It takes longer for a keypress to get from the keyboard to the screen than it does for a TCP/IP packet to circle the globe, Luu notes with a mixture of wonder and frustration. "
lawl, no.
how does that make sense
that's like more than 100 ms ping
and it doesn't take 100 ms for your keyboard to work
Have you used Atlassian Confluence recently? I had to update a page with a large table today, and I could go for a coffee between keystrokes :/
I dunno @clear ferry uses some pretty old shit
I can't get discord on my amiga 500
sure he needs to get up to address the many crashes that occured while he slept
Only if US got the damn plugs right, I feel so bad putting all this load on Norway
also does not pass the sniff test:
These changes all add up, to the point where input latency has gone from 30–40 milliseconds in the 1970s to 300–400 ms today.
must have an lcd from 1996
humans would easily notice nearly a half-second delay for each keystroke, and there's no way that's typical
@tidal bronze send me one of your many 3d printers so that I may use it a couple of time then let it sit dormant collecting dust the rest of the year and i'll send it back lol
thats all my 3d print does it collect dust and take up space
should be a 3d printer share program where people just pass the same machine onward to others
they are machines you kind of have to learn how each acts
Such a useless machine after few months years.
then your slicer settings and models
buy a 3d printer, learn why people don't like printing you things
@forest edge send all of mine out to friends to play around. Thank you for reminding.
as long as one makes it's way to missouri...
drive to micro center and get you one
Let me get one back first. Lol
he can just drop it from the plane as he flys over
put a little parachute on it, sure he would add some oragnic food snacks as well that would make a normal person yak
make everyone fear the invasion of the pods
374 miles out 😕
stuff drifts.. just plan for a good south to north wind lol

Wren uses CGi to show you how many solar panels it would take to power the world!
FOLLOW ►
Instagram: http://bit.ly/_Corridor_In...
they never address the issues like who's gonna pay, what about the people who own the land they want to take up, is really building and rebuilding that many solar panels feasible material wise? and for how long could you keep up with that before it itself becomes an issue
still an interesting video
Solar isn't ready for prime time IMO.
I believe there is a internet 3d printing service - just like there is a PCB making service. No need to buy a printer 😉
Solar is only 20% efficient. Not that good. Battery tech is probably more efficient. So guess solar needs to up their game. There is however some "solar" panels that convert IR to energy - which means they work day and night and may not need the battery.
As for batteries - the one I am waiting to see more info on is the battery that is nothing more than a rainwater tank that has some sort of gel in it. You want more storage - put more gel in it from a gel tanker! Its supposed to be very energy dense, but I would like to see some figures cos it sounds really kewl!
they'll still peak during the day. So you'll have to adjust some habits/schedules to survive on the IR at night
so youi would still need a battery - but not as big a battery as with standard solar
so i can print something i cannot retrieve or have to pay for someone to ship to me? lol
yes - its a service but pretty cheap
The nice thing about solar efficiency: it only matters for W/area calculations
They are mostly thought of in peak W that they can produce. Since nothing goes in, the efficiency isn't a parameter of running them at any point in time.
Higher efficiency solar will lead to higher Peak watt setups on same area, but not necessarily Watt/tCO_2 or similar as with other power generation
@forest edge saw an interesting 3d printer the other day (on the web) in that the build plate was a conveyor belt - so it automates the printing of parts cos it can unload itself by moving the belt and where the belt wraps around a pulley is where the object drops into the storage bin.
yea look up videos of that model being mounted to the side of a wall so that the completed pieces fall into a bin
@glacial knot but the W/area is of concern as there is only so much roof space available before you have to use land. Also a factor that the guy in the video didnt mention is that the area around the solar panels is actually warmer than the surrounding area. Therefore the larger the solar farm the larger the affected area. Wondering at what size it would start to affect local weather?
yea, it is a concern and needs to be improved. But in a very different way than for non-regenerables
@glacial knot wont be long till we can make some Replicators! lol
only once the printer prints itself
I just tried to find that 3d printer with the belt and I cant, but it was a standard vertical gantry 3d printer with the build area replaced by a belt. All the ones I am now finding have a tilted gantry.
I meant these replicators @glacial knot
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ZXgNNg9YQKs/maxresdefault.jpg
Sounds like lead acid with extra steps
Alternatively, go for hydrogen, you can store it in pressure tanks and convert it back into electricity
In this video, we will take a look at the NanoPi R4S and check out the device performance with OpenWRT. The tests consist of NAT (WAN to LAN throughput with OpenSpeedTest & iPerf3, OpenVPN and Wireguard VPN.
NanoPi R4S is a tiny but powerful SBC with hexa-core Rockchip RK3399 SoC, the frequency can go up to 1.8GHz. It comes with 1GB and 4GB LPDD...
Why wouldn't you use it if you have it around?
I have a couple Cat7 cables here. For "longer" distances (20m)
Cat 6 does 100 tho
so?
Why pay for Cat7 when Cat6a is just as good for any home use case
because the price difference barely matters?
I prefer RacX
it's all Mambo Mambo 5
It would be a better product if it has raccoon in the name
Sorry, I don't use as old tech as you find in your basement
Liar
Unifi 🤢
Your house is probably made of an old mainframe
i mean we know it's "new" to you but to the rest of the world it was manufactured in 1970's
😂
Definitely not lead acid in a 4000gal tank. 😇
Fun fact for other countries, in Norway it has been illegal to serve alcohol since the 7th of December
To cull COVID
Psssh, just do 1200 ft of cat5e, Sonoma says it is fine for 100mbit
3657.6 decimetres then
lel
I think I'm developing a problem
It becomes a problem when you have 3 boxes of unused stuff
Ah, at least I'm using it all \o/

So the size of a BMW 3 series?
Sooo.. not boxes but crates
Probably
The joys of owning a house
@last cedar just my water heater is 100kwh so far this month
Government will now cover 80% of our power bill instead of 55%
Wat
For everything above a certain price
So people with massive mansions get given the most for their bills?
Since most people live in houses here, yes
Thats crazy
But everyone gets the same percentage
If alcohol is used to disinfect hands , why wouldn't drinking alcohol help kill anything inside the body?
it does 😉
But only at concentrations that kill the host too.
Does this also heat the house?
that would be anything inside the body
Ok. True
No
So 100 kW of hot water for taps?
Got my daily timelapse maker working. Generates 13 2K 60FPS timelapses for all my cameras every 24 hours with timestamps
Cause I like watching them lol. And I like having them when something happens, snow storm, working in the yard, etc. And I'll store all of them so eventually I can make videos to watch the seasons change and stuff
Yes
thats a lot
he probably heats it using a stinger.. I keep saying he's way behind on modern inventions lol
Washing a lot of bottles every day, plus keeping two kids clean and more
its still a lot
it is a lot. I would be really curious what would happen if you guys ran into an energy crisis
The best part is
I'm using 43% less then the average household in my size
In my part of the country
that is absolutely crazy. shame on you people for not being more efficient
Are you still coping about your ridiculous energy prices?
you should be so you can help pipe some of that to surrounding countries
Well yes, now state is covering 80% of the bill above a certain kWh price though
That was the idea, except all water magazines are empty right now so we have to buy expensive German power
lol what you gonna do if something happens and you go into a long stretch blackout?
there's people that buy power from us? How messy is your generation if ours is more stable D:
We haven't had a blackout..... Ever afaik, so not worried
Das vind
🌬️
don't say it could never happen, but my question was what would you do if it did
I have a few weeks of wood in my garage I'll survive
The longest power outage I've experienced in the last 30 years was 6h
Powering servers with a pile of wood would be challenging
neither steam engines, nor simple generators are really complex
only hard part would be to keep a steady 230V
Do not worry sweet summer child, when you live in the great socialist dream we'll be fine without looting and civil war
uh huh, that's what everyone says just before they end up killing their neighbor for brown cheese
My polish neighbours? My somali neighbours, my pensioners neighbours or my crazy music American muscle car neighbour? Who will go first!
me me me !
Are you sure that you are not heating neighbours houses?
what is your electric bill per month, I know we been over this whole convo once before but i don't remember
really wouldn't doubt it
I would guess that people up North in Sweden have similar consumption
They have a similar electrical situation to Norway
Well, it used to be $20-70 a month
But last month was $750
State will cover around $300 of that
It is crazy tbh
They are talki g about improving the link from North to South Sweden to allow us to get more power from North
Same here
They are only partially connected
We have 4 power regions with scarce connections
And everyone just like "all they will do is make the north pay as much as we are paying in the south" and I agree with them. But it shouldn't be
Plus three out of country cables
Also, once fuel duty on fuel dries up, I bet we will pay like 4 or 5 sek per unit for electric
As soon as thry can't guilt us into paying enormous amount of fuel tax, we will have electric tax instead

are you converting that already to US?
Yes
which gas
Gasoline we pay a whole lot less than most the rest of the world
Yes
same goes with natural gas i believe
Yes
not sure about propane tho
What about unnatural gas?
I think we played it smart with whole gasoline thing, we outsourced our gas up till it got costly then started using our own lol
Currently we are topping out at $8.84 per gallon of gasoline
just over $2.00 here
The cheapest I've ever remembered was probably 1995ish,we paid $3 per gallon
this is why your salary is so high, cost of living has to balance shit out lol
curious what a burger flipper makes there
Good thing it balances it out well
$19 plus evening and weekend extras per hour for McDonald's in Norway in 2014 it seems
that's kind of sad
Those are students mostly though, they get $12k per semester of school from state too
prior to this movement to up our min wage then it made sense, but soon our mcdonalds employee's will be making close to the same amount but with a way less cost of living expenses
They just work for extra income
if you think about it, one day our fast food employee's could be making more than you on the scale chart lol
by the time you factor in cost of living i wouldn't doubt it
they make over $10/hr now as is and it's still climbing
granted it doesn't mean they will be living the life of luxury or anything, everything balances out but still
energy prices went up 99€ cent/kwh from ~30€ cent/kwh in some areas here
Yeah, our low point was 3øre, so far the high point is 856øre
I lost my bored apes!
I love how the discussion about NFTs is between those who buy NFTs and don't understand them and those who don't buy NFTs and don't understand them
"It's revolutionary technology" vs "I can just copy-paste the picture, hurdur"
i had a friend tell me that he stopped asking all the questions i was asking and just buys them and sells for a profit
my thing is I get why its important....but im more in the who cares about ownership pile
The idea of ownership is clearly in transition right now
But the way the current NFTs are structured is just hilarious
kind of makes me think people are getting clever in figuring out more and more ways to drain super rich people of their undeserving money
69 mil for digital art.. i mean come on
nice
its ridiculous but good for the person whose able to sell it
I feel like most of the craze is from those who are making money....you wont hear from someone losing money in this case
it's snake oil, one side always benefits lol
well, there was the guy who didn't put enough zeroes in the price and regretted it
you get "ownership" but that comes with fine print
one things for sure...thers no denying theres money to be made if your smart....but for some of us it goes beyond reason lol
ownership for the metaverse 😛
i am all for the wealth dispersing about, i mean people are getting rich left and right anymore and you know some of them are not that smart which means the sharks are swimming the waters
hell maybe one day my taco bell dog collection will be worth something again 🤞
no
atx might actually be able to sell some of his "equipment"
Problem with these types of get rich quick schemes is that usually the people who end up losing are the ones that don't have the money to lose in the first place
buy high, sell low FOMO
NFTs currently are just tulips all over again. The idea is interesting in itself, but there's no value in how it is marketed right now
meh problem? only idiots put themselves in those positions so I don't see it a "problem" just a harsh learning experince lol
I sometimes feel that way about bitcoin and then come to my senses
want to get some money? come join our telegram channel, porsche cayman S !!!
🚀 🌑
no offense to anyone invested into cryptocurrencies but i still want to see it fall on it's face
I guess for me the issue is that it disproportionately goes for people who can't afford to lose. I don't really care that much if a rich person blows away a few million, but when someone throws away their life savings, it's a bit sad regardless of how dumb it was
it's sad for the people who may depend on that person, not for the person itself
can't even count the amount of times casino's have turned families upside down
that i have seen or heard about
I wouldn't draw that distinction. It's very easy to fall for these when life hasn't been that kind to you
I guess there are always those exceptions but for the most part it really does fall down to the saying, play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
be pretty neat if one of those desktop ai toys like vector or emo had an api so it could be used with HA
It's kind of funny when I watch videos of furniture makers who make like tables etc that use a whole lot of resin. They take what would otherwise be a useless section of wood and use resin to shape it out into a table. It's cool, but they charge more for that than say an all wood piece of furniture and no one mentions the fact that resin actually breaks down over time. so these people spend more money for a product that likely won't even outlast them.
I found out yesterday that Australians hang wall plasterboard differently to other places
Plasterboard (drywall) is rare in my state so I've never seen it done before
upside down?
What are we looking at here?
Horizontal
6m wide sheets
Compared to like this
Sounds crazy to handle a 6m x 1200mm sheet though
That's 20 x 3 ft
just don't work alone
Yeah they would work in pairs
This being professionals
DIY stuff you wouldn't buy that size
There's all these things you don't think about your country doing differently
Until you see somewhere else do it differently
whats diffrent?
Other than plasterboard?
Hmm let me see
We turn switches down to turn them on
Our power outlets are landscape orientation, our light switches are portrait
Both the same size
We use very small switch mechanisms
Typical switch mech
Hand for scale
99% of Australian homes built in the past say 30-40 years will have power outlets of some minor variation of this style
what's going on with that braid of cables there on the top one? o.0
Where can I find info on running multiple DHT sensors on a D1 Mini?
referring to whats different in how you hang drywall. we hang drywall both horizontal and vertical, in fact you are suppose to stagger the seams although for long runs where whole sheets can fit you can have long seams. now "using" drywall is something not every other country does, as you refer to plaster many countries use the slats and shove plaster in between and over them
plaster is a bitch to remove compared to drywall
gyprock/plasterboard/driwall can be placed in any convenient way. No rule says it has to be one way or the other. As for powerpoints well we have all sizes - singles, doubles, quads. Some with switches above or to the side. Light switches can be wide or narrow to fit architraves around the door or on a powerpoint as an extra switch. And ........... we even have .......... esp based switches! 🤣
oh and we used to have the lathe and plaster method too - way back in the old days
But do you have real buildings? I mean not made of wood and sticks, but REAL one, made of bricks and concrete?
lol ofc !
Or would you like me to say that they mount in my humpy or on the gumtree?? rofl!
. I just have seen in a tv shows, some countries build houses of wooden sticks and boards. Only piece made of real building material is the chimney
Canada would have to have a double layer - too bloody cold! lol
yeah - they look like a way forward - beats lumping bricks around by wheelbarrow
probably still want plasterboard inside tho
Board houses are warm, they're made almost of insulation, but i'd be afraid about any single water leak , it could make huge damage to house made mostly of rock wool
And sticks
dont know where you get this idea that board (weatherboard?) houses are warm. Need more insulation in them than you do for brick.
It's pure insulation. Brick has worse (bigger) heat transfer factor than rock wool or styrofoam
got that in english? or can you tell me what each colour is?
oh and how thick is that overall?
much translation later I figured it out lol
not very descriptive - what insulation?
the windoproofing is probably what we call a builders blanket, but the vapor proof is something we dont do normally.
wouldnt that make the house sweat if it cant breathe?
or do you have another method to let the moisture out without letting the cold in?
a piece of plastic surrounded by rockwool on both sides
Also hope the styrofoam is tuffer than normal stuff
interesting - the first google result I grab for rockwool is acoustical insulation not thermal lol
Maybe i named it not exactly good
Mineral wool is also known as mineral fiber, mineral cotton, mineral fibre, man-made mineral fibre (MMMF), and man-made vitreous fiber (MMVF).
@strange crag sadly i haven't it in any other languages
And about thickness. It's about 15 cm of wool inside, and about 20 cm styrofoam outside.
More than less. It could be 25cm inside and 10 outside, but it's math. Heat transfer factor should be U ≤ 0,25 W/(m2K)
looks like the highest R rating we can get in Australia is about 5, whereas you guys apparently can get R ratings in the 20+ range!
and that was for rockwool
It is regulated by law, can't be more than 0.3 W/(m2K)
I think you haven't -15 °C in Australia? Except on the top of Kościuszko mountain
@strange crag 😉
correct not that cold here, but could do with it to keep the heat out tho!
I never thought of that
SD card in my camera at allotment house went bad. So i made an automation that sends me a snapshot over discord bot. It still uses build-in camera motion detection system, but discord is now my free image cloud
Watching all of these American renovation shows, everyone wants a mudroom
I don't think I've ever been in a Scandinavian house without one
Is it common in Germany?
Mudroom. Strange name. We call it przedpokój , which means "in front of the room", "before-room" or something like that
I forgot again which scandivegian country are you from?
Norway?
@clear ferry your houses are made of wood or rather bricks and concrete?
Hi guys i have question about LG tv for domotic, i post i this section ?
@small sleet nope totally wrong place
yep 😄
Do you know where is possiible find appId of app of my tv. ?
eingangsbereich
@small sleet no idea, try specialized channels
we do domozicz here now?
Nope but maybe anyone knows something about his tv
Brick and concrete is rare yes
I dunno why here, in forrest country ,from XIV century everything even a chickencoop is made of bricks 🧱.
When we made our mother-in-law veranda (porch?) rebuild of wood and boards, her neighbour claimed that it could last barely untill next winter , and then will mould completely.
I told him that people around the world build whole houses like this. Then he told : yeah, but in hot and dry countries.
I asked him "how about Canada?"
( Wood and board houses are here called "Canadian" )
He didn't answer
This is mostly the last 30 years
This was 50-60 years ago
This is 100ish years ago
And this is 200 years ago
I think our houses are build like this, to last light bombing raid. In case if our neighbours wanted to visit us again 😆
Our modern houses look like this too, but it doesn't interfere with being made of concrete with deep basement
which side?
also, what the fuck kind ancient bricks do you use?
Guess
east
Barbarians. Our 200 year ago
I assume you are in east prussia 🙂
Yeah, them called it like that
Lol
Let's drop it anyway. Someone might be offended
Don't worry @dusky plank is my favourite hurensohn
Ok, that should offend him more than my sophisticated jokes 😎
He's not a neighbour though iirc. He's two to the south
I need to run a meeting for a bit over 100 people with varying degrees of technological profficiency. It's important that everyone can get to tell their ideas (text or speech) and possibility for running polls is a plus. Cheap or free doesn't hurt. Any ideas?
Would prefer to keep the polls inside the same tool, but something like that could work as an addition.
If you want it all in one, Google Meet does polls and breakout rooms
IMO Sli.do is better
I'm thinking something like slack/discord with video broadcasting, so there could be a startup meeting/presentation and then the discussions could continue for a long time. I feel I have no idea about this sort of thing.
Meet can do that. You can have a stream as well as interactive, plus you can record it
I suspect you'd be better off with two tools though, I've not seen any "all in one" that do it all well
Teams does everything you ask for though
I was thinkign that too
I've not had the pleasure of using Teams yet... sounds neat
And you can record for later viewing
How have you not used teams yet
Everyone went to Zoom
The teams had a big update
and zoom went to teams
Slack, Webex, GMeet, and probably other things
ew
Zoom is fine, but the office 365 tie in of teams is great
Teams, other than the web app, not so much
Never come across anyone who uses google meet
I have one customer who uses the Google suite
It is always a nightmare to collaborate
I imagine so
At least it isn't lotus notes
o365 E3 ties in with everything so its great
We had a company who was using the lotus suite
It was quickly gone overnight
Browsing through some checklists Teams is looking pretty good actually, yes.
Have you not used teams either?!
Only for instant messaging at work, more or less.
Oh, we used to have Lotus Notes too. I repressed that memory.
🤮
Teams has lots of plugins
And multi user video conferencing is great
I do all my workshops in teams, and record it and send it to attendees
Very easy to switch between presentations and different video streams
Best bit is how easy it is to hand over control
Also anyone know of a pattress box that can house 6 8p8c modules
Electricians twist all the conductors together when they insert it into the screw terminals
So if you don't have a secure anchor on the conductors insulation they tend to twist with the bare copper ends
Real electricians use wagos
I don't think anyone lathes plaster since like the 40s
Ahh, we’ve long since moved on from that kinda connection, outside hackjobs
I wish Wagos weren't so expensive
Wagos are literally the best thing since sliced bread
Customer pays!
Yeah, they are expensive
Lol Aussie sparkies
99.9999% of cable to cable junctions in Australia elecs are done with screw terminals,

Probably why the whole country has gone to shit, and the wildlife wants to eat you
Ubåt
Not wagos
@clear ferry what do you call those?
Ubåt in Swedish
(submarine)
It's hard to do a direct comparision to wagos
Since these things can support ~4 conductors
I haven't seen one of those in two decades @last cedar
But you still use them for 1-3 conductors
We used wago stuff when I did my education in 2000
But 221 wagos are about 3 times more expensive

I still don’t know why we are using that for one thing at work…
I think wagos may actually be illegal here
Great summary
What part of the world is that
Remind me to never visit
They use it for a stores demands system - so it can be traced from initiation back to receipt and people can add comments and shit along the way. Good for accountability - shocking to get there.
Australia. I don’t think they meet our ‘standards’ which are arguably the most stringent and retarded in the world
Like if @hushed basalt actually took that switch plate off his wall and did not have an electrical license which takes 3-5 years to get, he is open to something along the lines of a 50k AUD fine
They even tried to push that you needed an electrician to change light bulbs at one stage
The industry is heavily unionised
The biggest part is getting caught though, which is hard, theres no way to tell if the work was done by an electrician or not unless you can somehow prove someone was there
Ahh, we’ve long since moved on from that kinda connection, outside hackjobs
We don’t have high fines, but insurances might get pissy
I've seen Wagos for sale at wholesalers so I assume they're not illegal
Big display in the middle facing the front door
The electrical licensing scene in Aus is definitely protectionism and doesn't holistically lead to safer or better outcomes for the home owners
So much stuff done by electricians I've seen is dodgey as shit
My friend works on 33kv lines that can turn a linesman instantly into dust
But isn't allowed to change a plug on a drill
Ouch
That is the silly side of electrical stuff
I think the Swedes can do almost anything themselves right @last cedar ?
Norway sells everything, but notes that only qualified personnel can install
Poles are even better. We don't go to holidays, just renew our houses
Only qualified can install
I've never been to Poland, wanted to go though, I did contemplate at one point to bring my car to Poland to replace all bearings and overhaul engine
We can do everything after the socket. Although I have done a course for 230 connections of things that already have connections, like small transformers , etc
Let's start holidays!
I can arrange it for you, when your bearings will worn 😎
A8 is good as far as it's 4,2
Curiosity: Old A8 with 3.3 TDI had radiator fan propelled with hydraulic engine and pump attached to engine accessory belt
Overkill?
what keeps someone from just unplugging the one?
The ring is not 24/7 surveillance. I cant change the trafo here
I would prefer to use a doorbell with surveillance
can you not leach a stream off the ring?
no, trafo not strong enough
so something like this dosen't work? https://github.com/jeroenterheerdt/ring-hassio
no, its battery with trafo charge
in europe we dont have 24v trafos
they are like 5-6v and just barely enough to charge the battery
so if you run the addon it will last one day
I cant get anyone to change the trafo to a 24v
cause I got doorbells with onvif
No allowed to do yourself
typical
good view though hehe
how would anyone know if you changed it out yourself?
here in norway you can get control
and since its unusual with anything else than the low voltage its a problem
is that your neighbor?
garage
oh lol
I hope I can get someone to change the trafo, then no need for camera
the doorbell is in perfect high for face detection too
Same here
I have to give to what seems to be the American system
DIY basic replacement of switches etc
More than that get a permit, a basic dropkick test and inspection
And electrician required for switchboard installations and that sort of connection stuff
My house was certainly not up to scratch when sold
Lighting installed on power circuits
my old house I did a lot too, but that was before the selling rules
This one I cant touch a thing
Up to five years before sale
Live cable floating around in ceiling loose with the end covered with a fold of electrical tape
@clear ferry yeah but talking about the new rules of "as is"
Is it just a fine, have to get an electrician to sign off?
In Oslo I could get an electrician to change a trafo, but Stavanger is so high demand they want $500 to just change one
Can't sell at all?
@static schooner Nobody will write off on it
sounds pretty australian standard to me
Here in norway they even want a professional to screw on the washing machine, cause regular persons cant do that themself
What's good from CES? Other than the $1400 roborock
aside from the wipeaway robot that cleans your butt?
I need a robot that goes up stairs. I got 3 floors
As in screw on the water connection for the washing machine?
@hushed basalt yes the plastic thing
yet here in the states installers won't even touch certian things like gas lines

projectors are shit
They will shoot you if u dare ?
No, but they can demand a full check of the house, and insurance wont be valid
Fingerprint the wires
the house is from 1990s so they used visually different connectors then
Here also everything is stamped with dates, even tubes for wires
Stupid laws. No freedom at all.
the US is too free when it comes to wires
but it should be allowed to do yourself, get an inspection and get it legal
It's how it works here, in Poland
always so depressing when we see others with less freedom
Its an issue for smart home. It would cost you at LEAST $20-30K to change plugs an thermostats to smart
if you want it hardwired
lovely
Yes
Wonder if my 1kV certificate is valid in your country. I could do this for half price ;)
probably not
As long as it doesn't explode, I would be happy
Hello there folks!
I see, I'll be having a good time on this server

eh, the gif ends too soon.
that fricker just walks away from a 10 meter fall
🐇
dunno about anyone else but on my monitor that hair looks real as hell
I’ve found a bunch of those under my new house. Will have to put junction boxes on them. Funnily enough, they tried to sell to us with a heap of live wires exposed hanging out of the wall in the fridge cavity in the kitchen. Crazy
i'll throw in some extra snackies!
Any good tasmota pre-flashed rgbw downlights out there ?

Not those, Recessed 🙂
if you are talking about those flat things and not actual cans. i've not seen any of those that can be flashed
well here you go lol https://templates.blakadder.com/light.html
Configure your smart to work with Tasmota open source firmware.
Looking for actual cans pre-flashed. Want to flash wled on them. Don't have the time to flash. 😆
Analog rgb strip controller. Finally had enough of waiting for decently priced premade esp based controllers so i dug up every 8 year old component i had laying about and made that monstrocity.
its so fucking memed its unreal. I didnt find any fets so i used 600V rated IGBT's which wouldnt fully turn on at 3.3V so i had to use another set of BJT's to level shift the signal up to the 12V supply.
Also used a linear-reg for the ESP thinking it'd be fine bcuz it only draws like 1W... but no. The damn thing dissipates over 2W and gets bloody hot.
I will give it a few months. Athom might come up with them 🙂
want to flash, don't have time to flash.. silly cali forest fires clouded your brain
Tasmota to wled is 2 clicks. Can handle that nothing more.
why don't you have @scenic radish do it, think he did that shit on the side at one point. make him pay for the lights you want, pay for the shipping to you then block him on discord
After about 6 hours, I accept my defeat; and leave my desk without a functioning integration
Curse you HA, and good night
I'm looking for some place for people to brag about their recent Home Assistant related accomplishments and give me some inspiration for things I don't need but must have. Anyone have a recommendation?
Not an accomplishment but I'm in the device research stage to start my sleep and wakeup routines -- to automate light temperature changes for each, including a slow wake up... In addition to adding aromatherapy with lavender scents to go to sleep and then mint and tea tree to wake up
My wife got a nice oil diffuser for Christmas and has been turning it on to go to sleep and of course I had to say "I bet I could automate that"
"and that was the last time the wife used the oil diffuser"
That sounds awesome. Automating sleep and wake routines means having a sleep and wake routine. Maybe we will get there one day
I have been playing with lights recently for waking up, as well as using a smart watch with Sleep As Android to wake up when my watch thinks I'm mostly awake anyway. I feel great when it wakes me up, but life has been a bit too unpredictable to use it repeatedly recently
A lot more than 10 meters!

How should I approach storing sensor data not as frequently as I get it in HA?
I want to send certain data once a second or even more, but I do not want to store it that frequently in the db. Or at least not more that for a few minutes.
You'd want to ask about that in another channel - see the topic here
#integrations-archived can help with the built in database, and #analytics-archived if you're using InfluxDB
Was not sure which channel.
Oh, I am on influxdb, thanks.
There's no support for Home Assistant here - please look at the other channels for that. If you can't work out which is relevant, start in #general-archived.
If it's a question about the HA Amber see #yellow-archived, and #330990055533576204 for the Blue. Install related problems go to your Installation Method channel.

https://community.home-assistant.io/t/do-sensor-update-every-second-but-only-record-every-10/187173 seems like there are only ugly solutions available.
Hi, I have a sensor that I could update every second and get a more real-time measurement, but doing this will write so much info to the recorder, that when I’ll retrieve this, it will take ages and even slow down the browser massively. Is there any way that I can make a sensor show a update every second, but only record it every 10 seconds (o...
Frack it. I ordered an electrician to change the doorbell trafo, and asked him to change the bathroom thermostat too
I really should get him to mount an outlet in the entrance too. Its litterally no outlets in my hallway
Lulz
The small bedrooms got ONE 10A outlet
they didnt think straight in the 90s
I found one on mitt anbud that wanted 1500 for the job including the trafo and documentation
so not too bad
Yeah, I got a new 16a outdoor outlet with fuse installed for 2500 recently
It isn't too bad
Still annoying I can do the job to the same standard for 300
that's your toy money, right? So roughly one tenth of that number?
yes, 100NOK about 10USD
So you can puke up, I am going to use a unifi doorbell 😉
atx
🤢
beats ring and all those doorbells
🤢
what would you choose then?
Im waiting for the new Pro. It got a nfc and fingerprint reader. Excellent for opening the door without keys
got the non pro I will install now
the pro got two cameras. one front and one down to see packages so not bad doorbells
I do DIY, I have no need for two way communication, nor will I ever use fingerprint or smart locks
Some of the newer smart locks are finally effective locks. I'd still hesitate to use one that had a cloud service, but something local with an integration into HA I might consider... maybe
I want smart locks, but I'll need to spend some more time on which ones are actually good
though I'd probably also go for one that's in the frame, not the door. Which makes things a bit easier
One big challenge here is finding one that fits our style of door. So far I've found one product that's not released yet
@clever mortar I have yale v3, but in Norway Verisure got exclusivity so its not possible to buy zwave or zigbee dongles to them, even the slot is there
Even a fully local one probably has some kind of override or defect
Leaves me sceptical
yale is actually quite secure
you want a military grade lock, but break a window is easy
lol
Not worried about that, most of my windows are 3m above the ground, and i have internal alarms
The amount of ‘military grade’ military equipment I used in my military career that shit itself when you really needed it, the term holds no weight to me
Locks a bit different tho. There’s no military grade locks, just government certified security equipment
All my outside cameras got a 120db siren and really visible flashing red and ble light
that would annoy anyone
We have proper military grade here you see @dawn prawn not that Barbie stuff
Military grade == survives being used by a squaddie
military grade encryption. RSA 1024
What is this, 1024, gimme that sweet 4096
I'm making fun of military grade encryption. RSA4096 is still usable
Do you dare to use password 123456 on an non exposed server? :p
nah. password1 all day everyday
Yes your European helicopters have a great track record here.
As well as your European trucks that are oversized and over weight
The helicopters are the worst though. And we didn’t even try to integrate our own crap into them. They’re chucking them in the bin 20 years before end of life and going back to American choppers
European submarines too, thankfully that got cancelled before the design phase had been completed
Zigbee Lockwood assa abbloy ones here seem good, very reputable company, and local control only
And a European ship that almost sunk when it was delivered thanks to its crappy compartment seals.
Ah I could go on forever on this #the-water-cooler rant
Have you tried them? I need something for my front door. I thought they were obsolete tho
I've read the american choppers aren't the best either when they left the war zone, lots of maintenance
If you’re in australia the telstra t lock is the same lock except sold on eBay by excess stock companies for $100 or so. Haven’t used it, they seem very sturdy though (and Lockwood seem decent generally)
not to say that europeans are better...
they did so, yes
Anything that rotates around itself has lots of maintenance- it’s why they weren’t really concerned about the blackhawks they left in afghanistan- the maintenance lifecycle behind them is huge
Thousands upon thousands of spinny parts - what could go wrong
I have two words... Jesus nut
lots of comparisons between hummers and the toyota hilux, hummers losing all the way
My biggest pet peeve of the European helicopters we purchased was the door slid forward in front of the door gunner. So you can’t have a gun manned whilst people are getting on or off or roping
just stop shooting people, how about that?
You can’t beat these tho
Hold on, let me get my rose tinted glasses that allow me to see a world full of nice people
You look in the mirror too much fren
You aren't wrong
Randy was one of my favourites on Trailer Park Boys
Cheese burger eatin ma fukka
omg my recorder is getting several houndred thousands rows pr day. maybe start setting up excludes
problem is lots of sensors report every second
Sounds like valuable data to me
just get a perfomant db, write to it all you want all day, it rotates anyway
I cant have it on ha as it will crash during backup
I tried to put it on my NAS, but it mysql could not handle it and crashed after a day
never experienced crashes because of db 😬 and i run my mysql on a rpi mounted with nfs 😛 which is far from ideal
strange. I experience crash at 4 am when I ran maria as addon
and figured out it cached 20k entries while doring backup, and thats the treshhold of ha for failing
Lol addon
I am not sure why synology maria doesnt work
how many rows pr day?
No idea
any excludes in setup?
No

I see no performance issues on my nas so I was a bit baffled
My database was initially on a Debian VM, then on a bsd jail, then in a Debian host container, and now in truenas scale container
All of them mariadb
I dont see why synology mariadb should be any different. its a native app
Synology 🤢
just run mariadb on any host and mount the root from nas
- /NAS/mysql:/var/lib/mysql```
what benefit does that got over using ip?
