It's not unusual for me to see 4-5 years uptime
More rare with 7-10 years, but I see a few a year
uptime tickets? do you get a ticket generated when a machine reaches X*N days?
@glacial knot Yeah, we have tickets that generate for average uptime being higher than 45 days, and for current uptime being higher than 90 days
Hm
So we had a bunch of tickets for CentOS 6 systems that hadn't been rebooted in 3 months come through in Febuary of 2021, because they stopped getting updates in November of 2020
let me check something
ehh, only 95 days
oh right, we had a power-outage a couple months ago D:
Most of my dark site customers have no less than 365 days uptime, when I stop by to do yearly upgrades 🦥
See, we have services with year-round uptime, without any of the individual servers running that service being up that entire time
Yay high availability clustering!
I think this is going to happen more often, why I took fast price :(
I want to see you cluster my HSM 🙂
vSphere actually supports that, so...
I assume we have a different idea of what an HSM is in this context
Hardware Security Module?
yea
how does vsphere provide that clustered? Does vsphere export an api for it?
Each host needs its own HSM, and then vCenter creates a virtual HSM authorized by the physical HSMs
One of my xSP customers deliver fully redundant HSM with three site redundancy it seems 🦥
Ahh, so they do a sealed key instead of actual NVRAM keys
I hope they at least load it into the HSM instead of pulling it to memory 😦
Also fun: If you have a case switch installed in your server, and open the lid while it's running, all the VMs on it will immediately pause and migrate to another host because the virtual HSM doesn't trust that host anymore.
You have to clear all the alarms to get it to run VMs again
Super smart
We have a logic analyzer to read out TPMs on running systems 🙂
Hide all the VMs from the raccoon that opens the server
I mean, read the TPM all you want, the VMs are now elsewhere...
HSMs generally have tamper detection that'll trip and cause a migration
yea, that's what it's supposed to protect against
I wish Intel would do TPMs in the CPUs like AMD does, then it might get more adoption
because otherwise sealed keys are accessible on the SPI
@clear ferry Intel does do that... have for years...
yea, they hide it in their ME machinery
I think the ones that MS cleared for Win11 at first. 8xxx+
It's called "intel PTT"
Oh, it isn't exposed for use though
Should be exposed, it's just an option in your BIOS
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Enable PTT and you'll suddenly have a TPM module show up
I've never seen it
probably not in xeons though
In the last few years, Intel Platform Trust Technology (PTT) has truly arrived. For years, the last word in securing personal computers, industrial PCs and servers has been the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) specification. TPM established a set of standards and interfaces that enable system makers to bake their digital bona fides into system
Gonna try it in my Gen8 and Gen9
It was introduced in 2017, apparently
Yeah, HP Gen8 and Gen9 servers still require a hardware TPM module be installed
There's usually a slot for it on the motherboard
hm. Now I wonder if the TPM in my laptop is that thing, just labeled TPM everywhere
I think PTT got implemented on desktop systems before HEDT systems
So servers got it a generation later than desktops
Couldn't see it on a third Gen scalable Xeon either
Hmm, no, intel was good on this one. Skylake-X does have PTT
PTT didn't show up till fourth gen
and that was only like a few chips
my poor i7 975 will never see win11
poor CPUs that have to see windows
So only consumer then 😶🌫️
Yeah, there are 4th and 5th gen chips that never got PTT. Looks like all of 6th gen has it, though
I only get confused with all these Lakes
Skylake-X was used in Xeons
Skylake-E was workstation, and Skylake (no suffix) was regular desktop
Spam report:
LaoCheng#5071
Thanks!
Doesn't seem like Skylake-X is in any actual server CPUs, only workstation
From what I can see
But I'm on mobile 🐶
Doesn't help that intel refreshed Skylake a dozen times...
There's also Skylake-D, Skylake-S, Skylake-H, Skylake-W, and Skylake-SP
they liked the name
I just say Scalable gen 1-2-3, everything else is for plebs
I'm really curious what Intel has in store for Raptor Lake / Sapphire Rapids, honestly
Leaks suggest 24 core (8P/16E) 32 thread Raptor Lake chips on desktop. Not as many details exist for Sapphire Rapids (HEDT)
I don't see intel bothering pushing past 32 cores on Xeon either yet, in regards to licencing hell
Eh? They already have 44 core Xeons
Sure, but they are very rare
Yeah, the 38 core Xeons are more common
99% of installs I do are still 28 core
I see dual 38 core Xeon systems pretty often
🥸
The licensing is hell, though...
My boss at the university had one of those as workstation
Takes five Windows Server 2022 Standard licenses to cover 72 cores
As in, 2x36 cores Xeon
Lead to a couple fun crashes if software that doesn’t expect more than X cores
34 cores would be two vsphere licences 😍
Yeah, firing up Windows on a dual 64-core EPYC server (128 cores, 256 threads) just about made the task manager explode...
Full 4K terminal filled with htop cores 😄
The bigger issue there (dual 64 core EPYC) is the system has 4 NUMA nodes, so it's useless for anything except virtualization, or a NUMA aware database.
I still have a picture of windows 2008 running on 128 cores somewhere here
EPYC Turin will be EPYC
Ehh. We used 2x64t epyc system for massive parallel text processing
Just fill in 300GB of images and expect a result in seconds
Then not use the system for anything but playing for a year
Most desktop software only sees the first 32 cores on a 64 core EPYC, because they aren't NUMA aware 🤷♀️
Linux just gives you all cores unless you look for numa yourself
But there’s barely any software that actually should care about cores, outside maybe their number
Even on Linux, software has to explicitly say how many nodes it supports
Or the kernel will default to 1
GIFs you can hear
On which api?
There are certain concessions you need to make when running across multiple NUMA nodes, because things like memory access latency/bandwidth become inconsistent.
LIGMA nodes are even harder to manage
You don't want to accidentally run your thread on a different node/socket from the one that's physically attached to the RAM where your in-flight data is stored
proc/cpus and sys/…/cpu just list all as giant node if not checked explicitly
taskset and numactl
software dev is going the route of self distributing across cores anyway
Well, yea. Numactl should be numa aware
Cores, yes. But we're taking about NUMA nodes
Each node has its own physically-attached RAM and PCIe lanes
32 cores if you want
Accessing resources on one node from another node is more complicated than multiple cores within the same node
multithreading aware programming will also vanish, it will be handled automatically
What? Auto parallelism is still open research afaik
The first person who invents an AI that can automatically thread-out a single-threaded application across multiple cores will be rich
Partially to avoid spark storms
Intel and AMD would pay a literal fortune for that tech
Pretty sure we're a ways off on that one. We still can't even get branch prediction / speculative execution right...
we'll be using quantum before that
heh.. no
Modern CPUs already use branch prediction, and it does improve performance substantially, but it also causes problems
we have some quantum "processors" in our labs in innsbruck, those things need way more time than it will take to make machine learning aware of parallel computing
The issue is, there are some things that can't be parallelized...
Serial operations where every next step is dependent on the previous step's results
And effect full languages make it harder to determine as well
The best you can do is guess the most-likely outcomes of the first step, and then use your spare resources to run the next step multiple times simultaneously based on those guesses. When the first operation actually completes and has a solid result, throw out all the branches that were wrong (which might be all of them), and jump ahead to the branch that pre-calculated the result of step 2 (if one exists)
Not super efficient...
just gotta wait till it becomes self aware
Hm, ETH is the only interesting logo on there :p
the university is one of the leading ones in physics
they "beamed" particles across a river some 5-8 years ago already
how many more till i can say beam me up scotty and make it happen in reality?
sounds like you just need to turn yourself into a particle
they even made a movie about it back in...1989:
xD
That was a very interesting documentary
I think that's illegal here in the states
replace that honey with brown cheese and your looking at norwegian porn

that moment you see a fedex drive past your house at high speeds and then get a notification on your phone that your amazon order has been delivered
what is harder? running ethernet over hdmi or making parallelism happen?
Yes
What, Pooh Bear? Nah, that's China...
Ethernet over HDMI (HEC) has been supported since HDMI 1.4, and DisplayPort 1.2 (Both released late 2009 / early 2010)
Basically nothing uses it, but it's there 🤷♀️
yeah, no way to see that in action
It's worth mentioning that ethernet over HDMI (HEC) only supports 100mbps, while ethernet over DisplayPort supports full gigabit
I've always wondered about that because I've never seen equipment that uses it
because the cable is too expensive compared to alternatives. so really unless you needed ethernet pass through for that ultra time noone has any reason to utilize it
All HDMI 1.4+ cables support it
i'm saying hdmi cable, displayport cable itself is too expensive
The idea was that you could connect your AV receiver to your home network, and any attached smart devices would automatically get 100 mbps ethernet over the HDMI cable that connects them to the receiver.
reason why they don't run miles of hdmi through airports etc
like i said above, anyone who runs any real length of cable don't run hdmi cabling
For long runs, you wouldn't use HDMI cables... in fact, super long runs of HDMI are often converted to two CAT6 cables, because it's easier/cheaper
HEC has nothing to do with long runs
The maximum cable length for HEC is well below 100 meters
Generally, the maximum length for an HDMI cable is about 50 feet / 15 meters
You'd never use HEC ***in place of *** regular ethernet for pure networking
You'd use it to reduce cable clutter in an AV cabinet
all more reasons why you don't see devices utilize the ability to transfer that type of data through them
None of that actually explains why it never took off...
$$
Again, there's no added expense for the cables...
is ALWAYS the reason
Regular 3-meter HDMI 1.4 cables support HEC, even the crap cable included in the box with your average Roku does 🤷♀️
that would be a great feature
If I had to guess, it never took off because WiFi was already ubiquitous
And WiFi can actually outperform HEC in a lot of circumstances, given that HEC is only a 100 mbps connection
it would be more convenient to just plug in a cable than to go through whatever janky menus they provide to enter WLAN credentials
True, though a separate ethernet cable does that job just as well (and usually also provides 10x the bandwidth)
it would be cheaper and faster to add a ethernet port and run cat than to pipe it through hdmi. gotta look at it from the person designing the device point of view
I just had to provide my own switch
A lot of AV receivers include a switch. lol
They'd rather include an unmanaged switch than support HEC
Does any of this have anything to do with 🌮s
You actually need more components on the PCB to implement a gigabit ethernet port in addition to HDMI, than to implement just HDMI with HEC
even so, it's still cheaper
It would be cheaper to use DisplayPort, since it has no licensing fee
But that hasn't taken off in home AV spaces yet
Cheaper doesn't always win
there is a video on youtube about the rpi's and why they use the connections they do that kind of touches on that
why so much shit used micro usb for everything etc etc
Long live USB-B
there is actually several videos on why that connector was used so much, from manufacturing all the way down
Yeah, I actually really like the USB-B connector
It's amazing for prototyping
Strong connection to the PCB (shielding and pins), through-hole mounting, and the USB 3.0 variant isn't much harder to solder than the USB 2.0 variant.
I can see why it still turns up so often, especially on projects involving microcontrollers
if they had been pumping out hdmi or displayport in that fashion you would see a lot more of it's features being used but no one wants to invest in adding something to a device that isn't mainstream or as cost effective on whats readily available right then and there
there's even some hdmi connectors that exists but you never see them. like maybe used on one device ever. there is a video on that too
me, waiting for support answers on this server
@dusky plank I've been waiting on a callback from Microsoft since Friday. I feel you...
They somehow managed to lock our region to "Canada" in Azure, in spite of our company and all associated billing being exclusively in the United States, which is preventing us from registering new services...
eh, comparing microsofts "have you tried these troubleshooting steps?" with this server is a bit harsh imo

Oh, I haven't even gotten THAT far
They keep telling me to expect a call, and they keep not calling me...
In fact, they called me to schedule a call, and then failed to call me at the scheduled time...
that happened to me too recently... until I didn't even count on them for anything
Finally got my patch panel installed. Now to clean up the cables
out of the blue (albeit 4 months later) - four (!!) people called me independently and informed me about the things I asked
Such coax wow
I need to get another patch panel for the coax and 1 spare Ethernet
Probably will end up getting the same one and mounting it next to this one. Fill the blank spots with blank keystones, and coax / CAT6a keystones
🤫 coax can do 10gbit, I use 2.5 coax ethernet in my home
🤢
But it is so 1900s
tru
🦝
MoCa is nice, glad it exists. But also glad I have actual Ethernet
I saw these the other day 💀
how the hell does those work
I’m pretty sure it’s so you can use an Ethernet tester to test coax
ah
be pretty slick if you could just use coax in that way lol
Kinda like a USB to parallel port adapter, without any electronics 🤣
Axis makes those too, they are insane
had them working at 300 meters
on crappy rg11
if you want to do ethernet over coax there is a thing called MoCa
If a PoE over Coax adapter existed for gigabit that’d be pretty cool
the adapter still needs power 😄 pretty useless
It is a conspiracy by power companies to sell more power
it could work from thin air, but they have to have their monies
Except you can locate the Poe adapter next to an actual outlet 😉
weird thing is I have 4 moca adapters, but only 2 of each find each other
they are moca 1.0 and 2.0 I believe or whatever - are from the same manufacturer - claim to be compatible and fallback - but aren't
strange, I just have all identical MoCa adapters from startec and they work much better than the mismatched powerline ethernet adapters they replaced
those had trouble finding each other even though they also clam fallback and all that
Beyond individual PoE adapters I wouldn’t see a need for any of this stuff 🤪
Meant as is without needing a powered bridge
I guess cctv is still a thing……..not sure why?
Cause you can't get that scary movie poor feed effect otherwise
Right. And why would you spend 80.00 on a Poe adapter when cameras aren’t much more
Psssh $20 Poe cameras or bust
When the mail is delivered I like to watch it as if it were a horror film. Got a problem with that?

Yes, there are a lot of interesting ways to serve meat
In Barcelona we got a plate of cuts and a hot stone , threw salt on it and lay the meat on top for a few seconds
Loved it
Also went to a Japanese establishment there, very good and self cooking

I've only done 160 days of easy studying
I've taken courses for like 4 years when I was a student
but didn't get to actually practice in any meaningful ways in years 😦
recently got myself nice books though
Yeah, I will probably do a course when I have time, currently I just do 15 minutes a day of repetitions
https://kodansha.us/book/read-real-japanese-fiction/
though you'll need a good basic understanding for it to be of any benefit.
It was easy to "have time" when I studied. CS is just piss easy /shrug
I can read it, but I know very few words and rules, but reading is a basic start
It is hard enough speaking proficiently in 2 languages, don't have more brain power for a 3rd
I get by in German, french, Spanish, fluent in Swedish and Norwegian, close to fluent in English, and Japanese is what I'm currently going for

I should order the NFC module for my laptop
great with the yubikey 5nfc I would guess
do you have the firefly finally?
yes, I ordered the Fury G7 in Febuary, then when I hadn't recieved anything in August I nagged supply chain, and told them to order me the Firefly G8 from a local vendor or I'd bring in management
got it early september
Very happy with it so far

basically sometimes shit goes down for one of our clients, couple months ago we had a ransomware attack on a hospital, it is then my job to arrange engineers and comms and lead the incident
so, it was my call to 'pull the plug', literally, when that happened, was quite intense
Yeah, I'm glad I don't do any kind of management anymore, I'm ITIL v3 certified and I need to find time to do the PRINCE2 Foundation exam
mate have you ever heard of BMC remedy ITSM?
I did incident management for a hospital migration project with ALL infrastructure involved for a year
I've heard of them yes
I had 1500 hours overtime that year
its absolutely garbage
and now instead of switching to serviceNOW, topdesk or whatever - we're going IVANTI
HP ServiceDesk is fine with CMDB
relatable
I've used that at multiple customers
But I haven't bothered doing projects of that scope for a few years
yeah, but when i lookup people's experiences with ivanti ITSM all i see is 'run and dont look back' XD
and when i asked them why we're shooting ourselves in the foot by going with a subpar product instead of industry standards like topdesk, servicenow etc, they told me its too expensive
These days I just specialize in products where people are dying or retiring or multiproduct stuff
much more fun
like bruh this company has 80K employees, switch to a proper system, automate half the jobs and fire people, money overload

hello 2015
Heck, I don't think I've installed a spinning rust storage system since 2016
all flash or go home

I worked in education long back when, we got used computers from enterprise to give to schools, it's gotten better since
all of our stuff is new, but cisco AMP and windows defender kill spinning
Fun to expand storage arrays these day, just adding 4 16TB SSDs and it'll be enough for a few months
Not like 10 years ago when I added 48 600GB spinning rust drives every time
Can you loose some of those in my 846 chassis?
:(
I do need to get some more memory for my Gen9 though, so I can mirror my LAB as needed
Please can you start being sloppier with knowing where stuff is?
According to my wife I know where nothing is

oh so you open the ui in a browser on your android tv
this is usually a sign of the browser having no websocket support.
I can imagine the android app just being a webviewer
I'm pretty sure both android and iOS apps are essentially web wrappers?
think so too, with some deeper api os calls
doubt that affects the input mechanism.
you could use a bt/usb mouse / keyboard
not really a "in bed" kinda input device.. 😄
I use the color buttons on my tv remote to trigger actions in HA, CEC is great for that

I have actually been selling cable recently
but not that cable 🤣
Ripped out all house electrics, as I moved in
got nearly 100 euro for about 90% of the cable that was installed
it was so old and mixed colours and such, not worth the house fire
That I am up in almost 6000 Euro to replace it all is another matter though haha
Next up on Linus tech tips
"I implanted UHF tags in my family to track them for home automation"
i'm just here to say fuck LTT
They sadly aint what they used to be. Nowdays everything is sponsored and the low-end is being ignored, only mid to high end stuff is beeing shown
Anyone ever mucked around with smoke detectors?
I gather that my house has hardwire-interconnected smoke detectors like this: https://www.kidde.com/home-safety/en/us/products/fire-safety/smoke-alarms/i5000/
They go off when cooking ALL THE TIME. When one of them goes off, they all go off at the same time. In order to hush them, I have to find the right one, climb on a chair, and push the button. Usually that only hushes them for a few seconds (even though the manual says that if you find the right one they should hush for 8 whole minutes).
All in all it's an incredibly frustrating system and I imagine that lots of people just pull them out and put themselves at higher fire risk.
What I would love is for a way to indicate that I'm cooking, and hush the whole system for an hour or more.
Second best would be a way to send a hush signal to the offending alarm after the alarm goes off.
I have no idea whether this is possible or where to begin. Any thoughts? Anyone tried to address this problem?
Do you have a smoke alarm near the kitchen?
I would not automate a hush for smoke detectors
if your smoke alrms have a timer hush function, and they are up high and you cannot reach easily or something, you could always extend the button that activates that hush down so that you could press it easier
Yes, there are two near the kitchen. I've already removed one
Not proud of it. But I think scripting it would allow me to put it back...
or allow your home to burn down lol
Extending the button won't help because I can't even identify the proper one to silence
I mean honestly letting it burn down would solve most of my house issues
why would you have two so close?
no vent hood?
Nope
Not possible to put one in either. Internal rowhome
Hacking the smoke detectors is the only way!
Don't forget the whole calling like high end shit low end
Ahh yes, your £2000 low end pc
Me with my £600 pc
and there she was, a friend of mine with her intel nuc n2830, 4gb ram, 500gb hdd playing minecraft with stuttery sub 20 fps, all while being happy to play minecraft at all

i wonder what that would be for LTT
I would respect him a whole lot more if he could convince my dad to change his stance on implants so I won't have to hide it while it heals lmao
which implant?
Wanna get a NeXt and Xsiid
my suggestion, dont
your body dosnt like to be messed with, especially not on that level
but you do you
In essence its a fat tattoo lol
Stuck in the same layer
This is how it should always be, opt IN telemetry and analytics
agreed
Wonder if someone's set up automations with a long range UHF tag + reader
Like imagine the lights turning on and off, following where you are in the house. Personally not something I would want for obvious reasons but has the possibility to be cool
Fucking hell it's getting late
I would, suggest the same thing to you that I suggested to my wife of 30 years when the smoke alarm went off every time she cooked…..cooking classes
What should I put on my christmas list (ideally that can be purchased on amazon.ca, o r shipped to Canada in a reasonable amount of time) ? I have light switches, garage door control, security system already handled.
Have you included hookers, coke, mushrooms,or cash?
Cause all of that out does all of homeassistant…..and if it doesn’t in your world, you can always flea bay is and get what you want.
Just me speaking out loud 🤪
it's bad form to get your relatives to buy your hookers, coke, or mushrooms in my culture
cash is allowed though and already on there, lol
You should move
more l ooking for cool ideas for home assistant under 100 dollars
The problem is, when I was banging that christmas present hooker I would know my relatives bought it and feel shame because I was brougth up in this culture.
We need to pool in for a buy a wife for @ashen magnet
I have a wife and kids
that is not a christmas present unless you are buying them off of me, lol
Then you know that cooking classes are not needed for an air fryer
Send pics 🤣
rofl, you guys are too much
The chicken nuggets come out perfect but the dam alarm keeps going off
I guess this is what I get for being a little on topic in the offtopic room
Yes, I mean well….but I am tired and ……
Send pics
Me proposing.
You did it through a glory hole……..that is not you
I can’t even… 4chan worthy right there
you guys asked for pics.
Don’t be a douche bruh
says the guy telling me to put hookers on my christmas list, lol.
🤷🏼♂️
Over a fake pic over a glory hole and saying you were proposing
I am real…..
Ask quietly
On the DL
Where were we?
you guys were giving me bad advice for my christmas list
light switches, security system, cameras, deepstack that will eventually have frigate installed on it, bunch of tablets for a front end, proxmox vm with home assistant on it.
Uh oh, Google Home Mini disconnected from Wi-Fi at exactly 12am and still can't reconnect... that can't be good
So….I just installed frigate today….on an optiplex 7040 with 32g of ddr4 ram. Got it off flea bay for under 250.00. Love it
Frigate is awesome
did you manage to find a coral?
It can't be worse than the other opensource nvrs I have tried.
not deepstack, nvidia jetson sorry. repurposed from experimenting with deepstack
lol, googled the thing and i swear these thin enterprise pcs all have the same designer since 2006
You should prob look up…..hookers, blow and shrooms?…just saying
Does Frigate run in a good way on a jetson nano? I could repurpose one from work
I don't know yet, it's on the todo list. It appears to be able to work looking on the net.
Look on flea bay for an optiplex 7040. Has an m.2 slot for the coral….ddr4 memory….cheap…..runs a decent i7 quad core
🤔 maybe I should try that then
I also have a TX2 dev board on my desk that hasn’t even been powered in over 2 years
I have a stack of nanos on my desk for a project that doesn’t have any ongoing progress
Using one for frigate would be a considerable upgrade to their usefulness 😄
The jetson has some AI accelerators
The question is really only if they are supported by frigate
No idea mate 🤷🏼♂️
The google coral is def supported though
Guess there is only one way tell? Spin them bad boys up and report back
I’ll try
Or I could just get a coral. They are in stock o.0
Looks like the arch and decoders are supported, but a coral is recommended in the jetson
I’ll take a look tomorrow when I’m in the office
In stock 🤣😳

USB one seems to be hard to get. But the M.2 ones are in stock
Ha….the duel edge tpu, last I checked, was@available. Mostly because the second TPU is a waste. Good night dude 🍻✌🏻🥳
still cheaper than the USB variant anywhere /shrug
37 euro bucks shipping... damn...
Not a waste when you use one for object detection and the other for face…. Live asshole tracking 🙂
Got to keep track of those trash pandas
live asshole tracking
#the-water-cooler-after-dark
Now that I think about it, I could track my wife’s butt
And play some reggaeton when she twerks
Thank you @scenic radish for the idea
that's what we call responsible use of computing resources
can't you just ask the people on the ISS to look out the window and tell you where she is? ||Just kidding!||
I can’t find her in a crowd as she is so small 😦
oh i bet that gets a certain group going something fierce
But did he get isekaied?
Let's not even mention that he also has huge hands
You know what they say about guys with big hands
Do your hands need sunroofes because they don’t fit inside tiny cars?
You jest
But I knew a guy who was 2.15m , he borrowed his father's Passat but had to drive with the sunroof open
From what I understand, most people are having a hard time even seeing the second tpu. Also, the TPUs do detection, you need a gpu for recognition.
meh, thats why you spec out a box
oh noes, your 2008 SFF box only sees one.... well no shit
POV: you come to this place
except ludeeus is way in the back behind those panels and pops in randomly
forgive me everybody whom I could not tag
The missing are truants.
@last cedar does not look like that, clearly would be a 🦝 at the table.
What the actual fuck
yeah I know, you dont have hair on your head
😶🌫️
Actually, I did spec out the box. One tpu is plenty for my 3 cameras and don’t think I will ever get to 20 cameras.
I am clearly raising my hand to ask where the booze is.
each tpu can only hold soo much for each model
one tpu for object, one tpu for face
keep it fast
who the hell does face recognition? haven't you ever seen mission impossible.. it's useless
hey now, I need it for when my wife twerks for the reggaeton music to auto play
oh and another tpu for pose detection
so 3
Yes, the dystopian nightmare of freedom

There's multiple layers to this tattoo, yikes... They're rendering whitewashed/Italian Jesus (as modeled by Cesare Borgia, allegedly Leonardo Da Vinci's lover, and illegitimate son of Pope Alexander VI), as an anime character (further exaggerating the influence of western culture on things like eye shape), as a tattoo (which are semi-problematic for multiple Christian denominations). I'm still unpacking this...
In relation to the whole ecology trend, I want to sell my old smokey diesel, and buy a large V8 or at least a V6. Already found cheap V6 Frontera with some engine problems, and it's only 22 years old . I think Greta could be proud of me.
But I'm about build my own electric car. Sadly components are horribly expensive
Look at this conversion
lol roller skate
Nope , it's car, which motorized Poland 😆
paint it pink and get 20 friends in there
Sadly isn't mine, some guy here made this conversion
It was 3m length and has 0.65 engine with 24 HP
So, motorised roller skate...
Want to panic a little... have BOTH your main disk hosting HA and the backup drive BOTH take a dump on the same night with the same problem. Click O'Death. Both same make/model/year. Thank lord I was trying to move it off the main small drive one of those.. only lost a little in changes. from the past month. Both drives.. 2013.
Cold backups are good, but good save @tribal whale!
vbox is a real pain in the rear. dang near impossible to rip a virtual media drive out to replace it with another.
If there are fewer than 3 copies, it's not really backed up 👀
Yeah, but don't forget Schrödinger's backup
The ability to restore is unknown until you actually try it
Fortunatly the one still on the miniPC's main drive was alive but just a little dated.
Wait, you have backups?!
Hehe true. I have various backup media I could leave it on. buy boy does VBOX HATE you when you try to reassign a VDI to a new file. it insists on MOVING the one.. thats on a dead disk.
Yeah, even have a good old "refresh it once a year" cold/offline backup of my desktop PC and servers.
And then the NAS handles everyday backups + replicates a couple very important folders to cloud storage
+1 to Synology for having support for Dropbox/OneDrive/SugarSync/Google Drive/etc. right on the NAS
What are you using for facial recognition that uses the tpu?
Hi, I've been working on setting up an example (I'd call it a template, but that has specific meaning in Home Assistant already) for people to use if they want to show information from their 3D printers running Klipper, through the Moonraker API. I'd like to share the GitHub repo I set up somewhere here, but I'm not sure what channel to use. DIY feels like the closest match, but even that doesn't feel exactly right.
It's basically a bunch of text to use find & replace on to fill in the appropriate data for your specific set-up, like the IP address of the printer and such, and then copy & paste it into your sensors.yaml and cameras.yaml files.
Seems more like something a plugin should do (similar to the OctoPrint plugin)
Oh, no, I have it working already, I'm just asking which channel to share it in.
It uses stock HA functionality and only requires some entries in sensors.yaml and cameras.yaml.
Hmm... is there any way to get Moonraker to just output standard MQTT so a bunch of custom sensors aren't neccisary?
I do believe that's on the roadmap. I also just used REST because that was what I had any familiarity with, it might be doable with MQTT already, I'm not sure.
Bingo. You might want to experiment with this 👀
If you get MQTT set up correctly on the Moonraker side, HomeAssistant will automatically pick up all the sensors
Then you won't need to manually configure them via YAML
Alright, well, if I end up figuring out how to replicate all of it with MQTT, what channel would I share it in?
#integrations-archived probably
Righto, thanks for the input.
Until then, I suppose, if anyone wants the REST version, just private message me and I'll send the link to the repo?
I probably won't get around to starting the MQTT method today.
This is probably better on the forums. In discord, it will just scroll off the screen.
@stoic lake I've done work with HA MQTT discovery with a few projects of my own. Let me know if you need help implementing MQTT discovery
See audioflow2mqtt and tendabeli2mqtt here: https://github.com/Tediore
i dunno, those sun glasses and that suit.. he might be walking into a MiB thing
One of the many python projects on GitHub
It’s easy to do
@tidal bronze you still around? or did you suffer one too many airport body cavity searches
Couldn't be better, with BTC this rate, busy busy busy 🤣 hope you are doing well
don't worry, it will flat line soon enough
No problem. Still the best thing.
lulz
Normal service will now resume
wut?
Some eedjit was doing a copy-paste "bomb" of the channel
i need help with the configuration the web link isnt working for me
what can i do
im trying to connect my ps4 to my google home minin
@junior coral Please DO NOT cross post. Read the channel description, post it and wait for folks to respond.
If you don't get any responses after an hour or more, and your message is no longer on screen, it is fine to re-post or post a link to it.
but i need help
So?
i dont where to go
i dont know where to go
You said that
You already posted in #integrations-archived for help with your integration
i did that and no one answerd
@junior coral People (and other sentient or vaguely intelligent beings) aren't waiting here for your questions, ready to leap upon them the moment they appear. Have a little patience. Keep in mind that repeatedly posting to get attention is against the rules (flooding) and can get you muted or banned.
Oh, and somebody did respond
fun times when the DC has an old CO2 fire supression system
that hasn't been maintained in a few years
so the admin comes in every hour to see if I'm not dead
I should pretend next time he comes
What's the difference between your resting state and apparent death anyways
Will keep in mind, thank you.
anyone as solved the problem preparing home assistant..... i'm stuck there
You didn't want this channel
As explained in the topic (top of the window) there's no support here
The channel you want is your install method channel, which hopefully is #330990055533576204
🦥
@clear ferry holy crap
Unholy piss
you had some sabbatical leave or something? then again so did i, probably 10 lines for the last 6 months here 😄
Something sounds about right
good to see you man!
🦴 🇷
i only came here to see if i could get thumbs up from @deft pewter after i've progressed on my gaming to not always be the last one, i've got some second last positions lately as well!
alright, i've got all this community can provide for me so see you next year 😄
😘
Eh... I have no reason to come here for support, and that's the first time anyone's engaged with me in a while 🤷♂️
sorry to break your hibernation
No co2 level alarm?
kind of thought he was regular still here but my bad for pinging, i checked in yesterday and only saw mostly familiar nicks around.. then again i went missing almost just like that as well, just lost interest and summer was coming so busy with other stuff, not that i was any asset here
@lapis cipher just admit it. You found a large container full of food and you ate it all. And now it has run out
That is cheating
I'm disposable
Not really
i am sorry for your raccoons there were no leftovers.. But, seriously speaking, spring often moves interest to other things, i spent good portion of summer sailing in races and really only cared about that "family" for those times.. Now its all dark and wet again, nothing to do outside the house..
How many others could do your job? Realistically @clear ferry
What makes you think he can do it?
Only people who eat raw meat can do what he does
wtf win 11 blocked like every known ransomware while having internet access however only blocked like 35% with no internet connection
Interesting. Guess that means they're not caching the entire database of definitions/heuristics locally
You're also less likely to encounter malware while not actively connected to the internet
I wonder how big the complete database is
"fuzzy logic" robotics has been around since the -90s...
Of course, nowadays that's probably lumped in with "machine learning" like everything else.

That’s not a cat, look again… it’s a raccoon 🦝
I have a fully remote job, so he keeps me company at home which is nice. I'm sure he might appreciate not being home alone all day too
look again: diamonds
My cat likes the hot air that comes out of my laptop, so she lays on it, which causes it to heat up and push more hot air. It's a feedback loop that she's totally cool with.
Love it lol
That's a fuzzy cat
lol found the warm
She’s a cotton ball
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate meets my cat OwlKitty. The videogame mashup we've all been waiting for and the best DLC to never come out. #SSBU #SuperSmashBros #OwlKitty

Not really off-topic, but I fail to register for the HA forum. I never get the activation mail, not even after many hours. Any idea what the reason may be?
nothing in spam folders ?
nothing in spam. I also tried different email addresses, with no success
no idea from me then, I've been logged into the forums five times in the last 3 years probably 🍭
DM me your details and I'll check the forum logs
Haven’t seen that in a while. Are they still 1.5k€?
I want it, but not that much

Because of cats costing 1500 euro?
Or people rather have virtual girlfriends than physical ones 🤶
Probably the only girlfriend I will ever have
Good morning everyone .. wondering if someone can advice from where I can get help for ring-mqtt integration ?
@trim tendon There's no support for Home Assistant here - please look at the other channels for that. If you can't work out which is relevant, start in #general-archived.
If it's a question about the HA Amber see #yellow-archived, and #330990055533576204 for the Blue. Install related problems go to your Installation Method channel.

Not in this channel, and patience
It’s a variant of Godwin’s Law - posting one cute pet pic inevitably results in a steady stream of more cute pet pics
It’s back
da future!
there was a Kickstarter or crowdfunding for a Pico pi PCB but I can't find it anymore
too bad the pi's adc is pretty bad and not really useable for me
WANT
I'd say that's exactly why, the old "av databases" grew too big long ago to make any sense so for a long time the software alike has polled "the cloud" for a response of whether or not something is seen and if so, good or bad, reputational data, facts, heuristics, etc. to make the judgement - thus not surprised
Are there any dog lovers here? I feel like if I say ||cats 🤢|| I may not make it through the night 🤣.
