i converted ....got tired of vochers and metric system and tea and and
sounds like someone will be sleeping with the cattle under the moonlight
prolly get better sleep
Better not to sleep time is money 😎

we have sourond sound ....its called crikets
So you can have some baby bach, baby bach, baby bach... rrrribs
Like this video? Come see thousands more at the Net's biggest, uncensored, completely d.i.y. punk, hardcore, indie and alternative music video site, BlankTV.com! We've got News, Games, Contests and the stuff that we can't show on YouTube! Free! Uncensored! Retarded! BlankTV.com!
baby back ribs ...are pork here in the states
I don't care. That didn't work with the joke.
@forest edge what's wrong with Bach?
nothing, i am sure his cows will love it. all the more reason for you to hurry and install his farm surround sound system
@tidal bronzeif you had already installed his whole farm speaker system he could have been out there today listening to this while dying from heat stroke lol https://youtu.be/uZD8HKVKneI

What do I need to do to be allowed to buy this to the living room https://www.avshop.no/product/dreamscreen-cineseat-promotor-v4-motorisert-recliner-3-seter-textileshield-mikrofiber-sort/
if you are over the age of 30 that is a real shit purchase
those things are built like crap and uncomfortable as hell as your bones age
Its not. Cheap one its a 5000usd one
that means nothing
Lets see. I probably won’t buy
do you have movie theaters there that have seats like that?
if you do go sit through like 2 movies straight then try and walk
they sub comfort with features to keep the price down to a point where some people can stomach paying the price tag
@late gate get a better couch install custom bass shakers.
Roborock S6 on sale for $379 - any reviews? Worth it?
S6 is great.
There's a speaker I saw at car shows a few years back called like the earthquake or earth shaker or something that seemed to only provide mad vibrations if you really want such a thing
why people install more vibrations in their trash project cars I don't get, like I like clear quality audio over everyone outside the car knowing you're a nob
also useful for hosting/distribution of traditional TV/AV in your home, or a step forward in pi based networking/firewall also
I have no idea why you need that in a car but at home sub 30hz is crucial.
I have hearing issues, nothing is that crucial to me
You really can't hear 30hz so that's why they come as tactile transducers.
oh cool
I want to buy an occulus quest specifically because the bone transmitted audio thing it did gave me the cleanest audio experience I have ever had. Only time I have ever felt motivated to spend more money for sound
What sort of monitors are you rocking at home
Particularly interested in productivity monitors not gaming
look out for dell monitor sales. cheapest you will usually find
ready for me to make all the pc monitor/peripheral nerds feel really disgusted in me?
I have a Dell G2410 and two Dell P2210s.
the 2210s are second hand from a banking firm and the 2410 I bought when I was in high school and has survived like 3 computers
nothing wrong with dell's
yeah but they're 10 years old
hardware obsessed people in the gaming community are like "you can't even play games on those"
color calibration is the only down side. that and refresh rates but both of those more aimed at artwork and gaming etc
Also nothing I have played has been unplayable on my GTX 760, 4GB
I've known people who are genuinely upset and offended at this suggestion
ok your gfx card is disgusting
hell you could buy a 1030 for dirt cheap so there is no excuse
I'm in Australia, all our IT costs more to get here than even to buy overseas and ship here, except customs holds it if you do that.
Also it's still money when I am a mature age electrical apprentice with a home loan to pay and one income
I'm pretty happy being one of the few self-supporting people my age who owns a house though, so I make do just playing games I like and not having any issues running them
You're in good company. I'm still running 3x Dell U2412M
noice
24" 1920x1200 (16:10) 8-bit S-IPS panels
I'd love to upgrade to something with G-Sync, and/or an ultrawide, but I'm really not a fan of curved monitors...
predator makes a non curved g-sync montor
I almost bought one during the amazon prime day
I will eventually rack mount my PC and upgrade to something with maybe a thunderbolt dock and a triple monitor mount on my desk, delete as many cables at possible
Checking now. It sucks that there aren't a whole lot of monitors that are good at both gaming AND professional workloads...
I got a lot of requests to review the 240Hz XB253Q. This made me excited to review it as I thought there was something special. There isn't. It's just an average 240Hz monitor with a price that's slightly above it's competition.
Products featured in this video.
Acer Predator XB253Q 240Hz (Amazon): https://amzn.to/2YnY8Gd
Alienware AW2521HF (Ama...
was like 299 during prime day
299 US?
I'd probably be looking at the 27" version. The 24" one in that review is a downgrade from my current screens in a number of ways
Also, I notice it's an 8-bit panel with FRC (which it uses to fake 10-bit color). Can you turn FRC off?
the 144hz one is 250ish now
I'm not sure how well it works at 144hz, but FRC looks like ass at 60Hz
the nitro version uses freesync and those are cheaper
I'm seeing the 27" 144Hz version for $442 on Amazon right now
you can't really tell the diffrence
they don't have true HDR
"proper" i mean
Not asking about HDR specifically. All FRC does is flicker rapidly between two colors to try and emulate a 3rd color using persistence of vision
It looks terrible. It was a cheap trick 6-bit panels used to use to try and look like 8-bit panels.
I don't think anything current has that issue because they don't put that on anything under 75hz
The effect often looks like visual snow when attempting to render smooth gradients
75hz is the bare min
I also notice it has ULMB in the marketing material. Is there a way to shut THAT off as well?
watch the video, the dude really picks apart the monitors short comings lol
And what frequency is the PWM in the backlight?
but for the price. it's hard to beat
I'll give it a watch, but most reviewers fail to address backlight PWM frequency, which is a pretty big problem for me, because I can often see the flicker
I've had to return monitors and backlit gaming peripherals because the flicker was so bad / annoying
And I literally can't watch a DLP projector or rear-projection TV without seeing rainbows everywhere
but I didn't care for the LG reviews
Monitors 🤔
yea not all of us had jacks surgically implanted in the back of our heads quad
Apparently the rainbow thing is because of the color wheel in the projector not rotating fast enough. Real annoying...
@subtle pastureyour talking about shit that came out in the 90's
This is to play games ?
no, to watch cooking videos
Oh ok that makes sense
Nope, brand-new shit... there's a theater in-town that I actively avoid because they have brand-new DLP cinema projectors
Makes movies unwatchable
well when it comes to theater that a diffrent story
I've seen it on brand-new demo units in stores, too...
Go to a Dolby theater
don't think i've seen a rear projection tv in a store in 20 years
Color wheel needs to be running at about 6000 RPM before the rainbows start to go away, and most DLP projectors top out at around 3600 RPM
Do you have ipic or arclight theaters?
how do you know wtf they are?
But the bigger issue here is backlight PWM. Seems like I need it to be about 1 kHz before the flicker becomes imperceptible.
A lot of backlights are between 300Hz and 600Hz, which isn't enough :/
Hue bulbs also run at around 600Hz, and I can see them flicker at low brightness
well don't worry, after you turn 40 you won't notice these things
If its cinema you should be fine with Dolby vision projectors.
Where and what is this cinema you are taking about ?
why the fuck do they keep regurgitating the same movies over and over! https://youtu.be/82Oc6Y3iNe4

cash cows/holding on to rights
if you have the rights to a particular IP (some Marvel heroes were impacted by this) you have to actually use them within some period of time or other.
i see no, "tell us we're shit" links
I can voice your opinion at a meeting gladly.
do that seriously tell them to fucking stop remaking the same crap over and over
not going to be any creative brain cells left before long
that's optimistic
I will make sure I tell that GTS is not happy with current shit. They gotta up the game.
@forest edge but then again you are listening to the audio via aux in your boom box right 🤔
they are talking about coming out with a Gremlins 3 which is at least better than a remake.
yeah but they'll try to make them visually "modern" which as in the above thumbnail, is less creepy
what I read was they would still use puppets
so won't be as bad as just CGI'ing everything
What I can't stand is bad CGI,
i can't stand when they try and use CGI to make actors look younger
Well auto tune for faces 😆
ugh auto tune is another disgusting invention
"Yass" version is here: https://youtu.be/dH7oZmpd2Co
Autotuned the cat because he won't shut up in the mornings. I don't know how this helps but I did it anyway.
Yes, he's a Bengal, his name is Elton. I used an app called Voloco for iOS to make the autotune sounds. And no, he's not thirsty, he just happened to be by the faucet in part of the vi...
Reduced loads of production costs.
yea and made virtually anyone be able to barf out an album
Sadly yes.
can't sing? no problem!
And no retakes
combine the two and sloth from the goonies could sing and look like a model in the music video
At the same time very few people in the world can keep pitch with synthesized music. 🙄
So equal blame goes to electronic music.
lol
Heheh. I couldn't sit still during the online/lockdown TAFE classes so I have cast my desktop audio throughout the entire house. It only has like 2 seconds of lag
apparently chromecast likes to be 2 seconds behind probably due to the buffer
I did. By switching the format to Wav/16bit with sound card sample rate and 0 for device buffer in seconds
but it's still noticeable between headphones vs the google home
either way. it's still a clever use of the home
Run a metronome adjust the GH
the GH doesn't go under 0
Change the other output above 0 200ms then delay the GH
I am not that committed to using desktop audio streamer in favour of getting a bluetooth dongle and connecting over that
also it's not about syncing headphones to the home, it's just answering as soon as possible if I am asked a question
I have quite a few Google speakers etc it was a task to sync but after many tries it's perfect now.
my home's are in sync with eachother straight out of the box
I wish that was the case. Some of the GH devices have paired 12" subs running via CC audio. I think altogether 19 with 4 different AVRs. So not a small task 😆
oh my house is too small for that. I started by getting a JBL link bar with my TV which had google/android tv apps and used google home assistant for voice control. (Apparently newer ones do not do this any more) it came with a sub and after switching channels, opening netflix, etc using voice I started buying home minis and a home hub whenever I got discounts, or christmas vouchers from work. The only thing that's weird is sometimes I have to turn the screen on to make the linkbar receive chromecast audio but I don't often worry about that
So no HDMI pass-through on TV or you must be using ARC for return channel
well my actual assumption is that because I have the TV and soundbar doing eARC and did all the fancy for when various volume levels cut things in, it's probably turning the main soundbar functionality off at the same time as the TV when I say "turn the tv off", and so only the assistant part stays active
Didn't know TVs came with eARC now. Haven't used ARC at all
yeah if you plug anything modern into a Samsung TV at least, one or the other should advise you that you get features if you do what they say
so my TV and linkbar have labelled ports to plug to do that
Never looked into eARC because of the the initial buggy implementation probably all fixed now. I have nothing plugged into TVs all go through AVRs and HDMI distribution units.
how do you have nothing plugged into tv?
Magic
your audio has to pass through the tv before going to an avr
I also find it odd when people's stuff don't have CEC for appliances. like why do you still need 2 remotes?
Why on earth would you do that. All sources plug into AVR. AVR outs to TV.
I don't use TV apps at all.
how does it pipe audio from an avr to speakers without going through the tv?
Every TV has a shield pro
the AVR feeds the speakers?
oh so the tv is just a monitor
Yep.
without exception, TV apps suck
Yeah the only thing a nice living room needs is the TV and sound system with power and one ethernet. all wall mounted. Your consoles can go in a rack or cupboard
Nah, netflix is fine
"Hey google, continue watching community on netflix"
I love my Shields. They've taken over all streaming activity with exception of Apple TV+
@tidal bronzedo you not watch cable tv or anything?
Hello Everyone, any takers for my question in #automations-archived?
I may be able to do without cable tv but I would never not have OTA atleast as a backup
@forest edge no. Plex Netflix Amazon. What I watch depends on the audio track. 🤣
What do you get with apple TV+? I got a year subscription with my phone but all it seems to do it point me to where I can pay more money to watch things
too dependant on the internet for my taste lol
I'm torn on it
I also got it for free and just started paying
I need to decide whether to continue
but what is on it?
like for free wiythout renting any series, what is there?
@forest edge I don't watch news or listen, you take care of that task for me. 👍
apparently
hmm
just watch atmos crap prob most nature bullshit with birds chirping in surround sound
I know there's anything critical in Cali I get the discord ding.
I have forgotten how interesting this chat was 😆
You can connect your terrestrial TV service to Plex also if you want it
with plex pass
they've also cleverly spread Ted Lasso out with an episode per week, milking the monthly subscription
f paying for that lol
@forest edge birds chirping in atmos?😆
I would never ask quad for his plex access cause I know his library has got to be severely limited lol
if it's not 128.1 surround sound, he don't listen to it
I use IPTV because my family has Foxtel GO and I can sync their paid foxtel channels into my EPG alongside the free to air ones and continue to yell at my TV to do anything I want
You gotta have x.x.4. X.1 days are long gone.
I set my mom up with youtube tv and she seems to like it but I would never put faith in iptv lol
It works nice here
I like to traditionally channel flip
like I do have fibre to the premises, and am using a playlist that isn't officially supported by Freeview Australia so someone's actually working to keep it working; but still
you can channel flip using IPTV
not really
it literally feeds the playlist and EPG to the same live channels front-end for "smart" TVs
it is not the same
so you go up, down, or use the guide the same way
it could never be the same
how is it not the same?
well delay is a big one
what delay?
I guarantee on modern equipment it's the same speed as your TV tuner takes
i call bs on that
call it all you want. it's a viable alternative
my parents couldn't deal with anything other than a straight cable connection for the same reason
not to mention most services you have to pick a channel from the guide menu
every aspect of iptv is slower, you can't turn off the tv and back on to the same channel, can't fast flip through channels
I personally do. Frequently
Home Assistant can fill some of those gaps - I can launch YTTV and switch to a specific channel
it is, in part because YTTV has to launch, and that takes a few seconds on its own
but it emulates the old "turn on and TV starts playing" paradigm
but that's an app, not feeding the stream straight to the TV's default live channels
we had an old channel+ box that had streaming channels baked into exsisting channel line up
so as you flipped channels down to one of them it just started it's default stream
which is probably what you are talking about
it was still slow because when you switched onto it it still had to do the handshake etc bs
If it doesn't work for you, you do you,
till you have had both you don't really know
I have
hell I can tell the diffrence between flipping channels using todays cable box's in compared to when cable tv was actually handled by the tv's built in tuner
that is old
Lol
those were required for older tv's (at that time) but as long as the tv had a tuner built in you didn't need it
I only remember having a box and putting the TV on ch3
yea if your tv had rotary dials you needed it lol
@tidal bronze ugh amazon may start accepting cryptocurrency in the future.. shit just won't die
That's amazing 👏
no, no it isn't
So not only property you can get esp32 with crypto. Wonderful 👍
property? you have realtors accepting crypto there for homes?
You can pay for anything with crypto 😉
You feeling alright today? I usually here that from people who missed out on crypto. Let not your heart be troubled. Jump in on the wave.
not right now though, I don't reckon anything will climb too high for a bit
(he says, currently down a few bucks)
I have 2x Dell 24" U2415s atm but I hate them
I'm craving something high PPI and large vertical and horizontal dimensions
=>60hz, decent HDR would be a bonus too
I find the 1440p on the ultrawides not good enough for coding
Not exactly off-topic: DISCO MODE!
LedFx?
Nah, just some Tuya modules, a script, and boredom LOL
ah
are you familiar with wled, soundreactive fork, and ledfx? you probably recreated the wheel -.-
This is my first foray into HA. I'm all low budget experimentation for now. Just having fun and learning.
Already did
nice
But it's for neopixel-ish stuff, and I don't have any of that. These are all just my normal house lights.
ah gotcha
i've used a few strips around the house
ideally i'd use the skr6812 rgbw strips
Probably not in this house... Maybe after a move.
rgbbed is pretty sweet
to light up all the clothes I toss in the floor? lol
maybe
Hello. I'd like to create a custom login screen for my installation, i use it for commercial, monitoring of mining rigs and power consumption and some control for my customers over their machines.
Is it possible to change the login screen for something custom (of course reference, like "powered by Home Assistant") would remain intact.
@warm cargoyour gonna want to ask that in #frontend-archived
Thanks!
Mornin
it's about as valid as "Microsoft Office"
You'd be surprised
A lot of people can't google stuff
effectively
And googling is a major part of most jobs
Though, you could reasonably replace google with research there
Our internal wiki system has a subpar search
The ability to search that one, that’s a skill worth advertising
I've worked with Confluence for years. If you can find something on there, you deserve a medal.
Try when everything is split between Sharepoint, ServiceNow and Confluence
New place uses Notion for pretty much everything. I think I like it.
agree 100% Confluence only works if everyone using it follows some standards...We have it aswell and its a permission hellscape and you can't find anything.
I use notion for university and it has served me well so far Although i don't think it really solves the problems confluence has
I use it for personal stuff too and love it. I haven't used databases or their API yet though.
is there a specific channel for the vscode extension help?
If you're talking about the addon, #add-ons-archived or the Addon server
if you're talking about the actual HA extension, then not really
🤷♂️ its the vscode HA extension https://github.com/keesschollaart81/vscode-home-assistant
then that's where
says come here 😂
there's not really much to setting it up
its the connecting im having trouble with
there are only two things you have to do for that - provide the URL to your HA instance and create and provide a LLAT
yep so im using vscode remote ssh to work with the HA config files and compose file.
the default container setup has all of its config files owned by root.
that might be one of the issues. also, the url of the server:port is http://192.168.1.10:8123 but im already on the host because of the vscode remote ssh connection inception thing.
I don't think that matters. you have a way to access the HA instance, and that should work anywhere
now my wife wants me to do this....
the url part you mean? im wondering if i need to set the container user to 1000 while down and own the files, then bring it back up again 🤔
I suppose this better in #general-archived , but you can see the HA extension logs at Output->Home Assistant Language Server in the window at the bottom
you haven't been specific about what the actual problem is
anyway, more in #general-archived
I signed up to that Tuya beta and oh boy am I super confused by their website
I do have the Tuya V2 installed and working but then I went back into the Tuya site to have a poke around and omg its hideous!
It's all fun and games until you accidentally hit the Disco Mode switch after looking at the bedroom temperature on your phone at 3:30 AM and Disco Inferno erupts in the living room...LOL
haha yes done that one! been woken up a few times cos my scripts were not 100% and the sensors decided I moved too much in my sleep and turned the lights on
who says that wouldnt be intentional?
sinister laughter intensifies
A few times after working with people I've wanted to take a few things like this off their resumes.
Also hi, I just showed up yesterday.
Yeah like “excel skills” exist until you trust them with a spreadsheet that has a vlookup
And hi, I usually just lurk
Solid plan.
I set HA up on a pi for my zwave door lock and then wired my doorbell up to send me alerts. So I figured I should join this discord to soak up knowledge or something.
this discord only kills brain cells and empties wallets
Shout out to Frenck for the great guide on the doorbell.
I'm on a mech keyboard discord as well so no problem on the wallet front, it's already empty. 👍
To be fair, I think 50% of the brain cells were in doubt before they arrived here...
How many keyboards so far? 😂
Just two. Not counting group buy yet to be produced. 😁
I don't have much expensive stuff frankly.
(for kbs)
Group buys 🤢
If I can't buy something in stock, I don't want it. I'm not waiting months (or years) to get something I've paid for.
And I just ordered a zwave external power outlet because it gets cold here and I'd rather not use a timer for my car block heater and battery blanket.
I've also only got one nice mech so far... but tempted by a 40%
I think the only reason I discounted that one was it only has one USB port. I wanted passthrough.
So once the power outlet comes I get to figure out how to get it to turn on at 4 am when temp <= - 30C. Or whatever.
I consider 60% the sweet spot
If I don’t even have normal number keys, things go wrong
I have been bringing the K6 to and from work which has been working out well, but makes me look like a big dork. 😛
make use of the forums when looking how to put together templates/automations. you will likely find someone else in the same or very similar boat as you https://community.home-assistant.io/
Yeah, I imagine not a completely unique scenario so that's where I was going to start.
Thank you though.
Yes. You need at least twice the amount of keyboards
Also, Click At Home, tactile silent at work
Also need to replace my NAS, so considering building a new server and trying proxmox, putting HA on that etc etc, which hey we were just talking about spending.
Proxmox is neat
Yeah, I've heard. It'll be a learning experience. Or I could just get a replacement Synology instead.
Things to decide at another time.
Who needs number keys? 😂
And are you saying I should change my switches when I finish my working day? 🤔
Accountants?
Real accountants use pen and paper.
Abaci
Bless you
ty
I take it you don't fancy one of those chorded thingymabobs, @glacial knot ? Stenowhatsits
Nah. Switch keyboard
??
Seemed clear enough 🙂
Dump the Synology
Get a real server and budget for 6 drives in raidz2
By real server I just mean any case and motherboard that can take 6 x sata drives and some nvme boot
yea make sure those pictures of grandma never get lost
Clay tablets last for millennia.
Yeah, that's where I'm headed. Just need to make the time, pretty much.
Proxmox is okay. It's what I use but its not a great hypervisor
Some people like Truenas Scale
You press down combinations of keys to type entire words.
Same thing that court recorders use to keep up with all the talking.
Doubt it'd be any good for coding, since you often want made up words for variables and functions. Those keyboards basically work by picking out words from a (sometimes custom) dictionary list.
ahh
Those are so cool. Used for live closed captioning too.
Back in the day when live tv was very very live, you could sometimes see the last couple of words change when the next one made the software realize the previous one should be different.
Does HA know how to handle its host (I run supervised) being on multiple VLANs at the same time? Or does it listen on all interfaces and just let the OS handle the routing etc. ?
Try asking in #330990055533576204. The people who hang around there would probably know better.
There's no support for Home Assistant here - please look at the other channels for that. If you can't work out which is relevant, start in #general-archived.

For all the reasons that are regularly discussed about it 😛
(and others, many many many others)
Ok. I don't really want to dedicate an entire host to just HA though. So I guess 'container' or 'core' in the future? 🙂
Container
Sane: OS and Container
Ok if you're a Linux admin: Core
Just say no: Supervised
those court recorder keyboards are gross. i dunno how people can go from that to a normal keyboard then back again throughout the day
Support coverage for supervised assumes you're not using the host for anything else anyway, so 🤷
didn't tediore go all supervised and bragged about it?
Nope
oh i thought he did after going core
Container
@clever mortar There's no support for Home Assistant here - please look at the other channels for that. If you can't work out which is relevant, start in #general-archived.

Last I tried, OS meant i had zero access to the underlying system and all i could do was run add-ons. I would, for example, not be able to put it in multiple VLANs this way 🙂
oh snap
Then head over to #general-archived
We can help you there to find the way that suits you
Oh no .... wasnt here to discuss that 🙂
Thanks 🙂
I'm fine with supervised for the moment. When I face a reinstall, I'll consider the options again 🙂
I did see a guy using one of these for coding once
It would be an enormous learning curve though
Here's a quick steno demo where I write a simple FizzBuzz in JavaScript using a generator function.
FizzBuzz is a program that prints out the numbers 1 to 100, except that if the number is divisible by 3, it prints "Fizz", if it's 5, it prints "Buzz", or if divisible by 3 and 5, it prints "FizzBuzz". This is just a quick presentation to demonst...
That's nuts. I can barely code on a real keyboard 😅
looked like all he was doing was pressing the same 8 buttons at the same time
I'm just waiting for access to Copilot, then I won't even need to know how to code.
you mean, randomzied copy+paste from stackoverflowgithub?
psh, there are benefits to supervised if you stick to the rules
I'll release it from my fingers once I can set up mounted drives for HassOS and access hidden config files for containers (Like the fucking zwave cache & machine files that are STILL inaccessible).
I can count the number of people who stick to the rules on the fingers of one hand, and have some left over
So it shares the same benefits as container and a load of potential issues on top? 😄
I don't have to maintain the containers or thier upgrade process
it's ultimate lazyness
I also stick to the rules
I literally only use it for what I said above
If zwave had a way to access machine files and we could mount a network drive into the media or backup directory...
no reason for supervisor
convincing people to give us that ability has proven difficult
i feel the urgent need for . topic
but I‘m on petro‘s side… supervised offers some decent features on top of os
I've written up these 2 issues ~3 years ago
Drive mounting seems to be a very popular request... for as long as HAOS/Hassio has been around
is that sarcasm?
Nope
well then I'm not sure what the damn problem is
That's an observation
it's going to be my next WTF month WTF
As in, people would love it, and don't have it, so ....
the zwave thing falls on def ears
cache was available for zwave legacy, I have no idea why it's hidden now, same with the machine files
"Hey lets make it so you can't fix your device and have to wait 4 months for a PR to come through"
Didn't they close all those down in Australia?
Only on the disease ridden mainland.
man I woke up to the most random issue today...Nvidia shield decided it no longer wants to output PCM audio lol
Updated last night? @shy comet
there was a android tv core update and rolled it back but no luck
usually when something random like this happens its the cable
but i never seen PCM stopping while everything else works
mind you id rather have anything but PCM but not everything is in better quality
weird the volume level setting changed, had to switch back to CEC to regain PCM

The song "When We're Human" from Disney's "The Princess and the Frog"
All content in this video belongs to Disney
It's not my favourite Disney film but it's probably got one of the best soundtracks.
I'm sure Tinkerer will correct me though 😂
Eh, I enjoyed the music for sure
But then... bits out of Moana, and others, are all good
Yeah, Moana's up there in my favourites too. In no particular order: Moana, Mulan (OG), Aladdin (new, minus the stupid song they added for Jasmine), Lion King (OG), Princess and the Frog.
Will Smith as Genie was amazing, both the acting and singing.
I haven't seen that yet, must do so
Seeing the making of the original blew me away with how much Robin Williams just went with it 😄
I don't like many of the remakes but Aladdin was well done.
Mulan was... meh. The deviated a lot from the original, so it may not live up to your expectations.
I don't mind remakes that make it their own
Simply repeating the last one... not so much
I'm the opposite. They ruined the nostalgia for me 😄
Though I suppose it depends how they make it their own. If we're talking about the Ghostbusters movie that flopped... well...
Ghostbusters was fine imho; Can't really remember the plot though
It wasn't the Godfather Part 2 but it wasn't supposed to be
If it was fine, why'd it flop?
Nothing to do with having an all-female cast of B-lister comedians as the entire basis of the movie then? That's a relief.
Is the problem that it was an all-female cast or that the comedians were all b-listers?
Yes
Sorted, good job
Personally, half and half. I can't comment for everyone else that avoided it.

It's not like it was the best movie ever, so I'm not going to spend much energy defending it
I suppose if people just won't see a Ghostbusters without Dan Akroyd and Rick Moranis, then fair enough, I suppose
I'm planning on seeing the next one...
Doesn't have the original cast, right? At least not all of them.
I'm not dialed in, so didn't know about this
I think at least one of the original cast has a cameo. They're not main characters.
Sequels > remakes
Godfather part 3, then 🙂
I don't get the reference 😄
Deemed by many to be the weakest of the trilogy
Or rather, surprising to many that it is even part of the same trilogy
In the case of our topic, Ghostbusters: A movie being tacked on to the original run by way of a cameo appearance; I'm not going to go in with the greatest of expectations but chances are I'll be mildly entertained
Except the new Ghostbusters isn't 'tacked on'. It's a logical followup.
Well, good then.
Logical in that no one seems to remember that ghosts were a real thing? 🤔
Perfectly logical, just like how the bible also describes how people forget about "god" during the good times and come crawling back once shit hits the fan
it's a trope as old as, well, the old testament
Never forget Dog. Dog is everything.
We love to forget; it's how we can charge forward to the future with no thought of repercussions
Moana didn't actually do that well at the box office
Monsters University and Big Hero 6 made more, which surprised me
Zootopia earnt nearly double
Yeah but those are just for kids.
I'm talking about real Disney, which is for anyone born before 1990.
Hell, Tinkerer is probably old enough to remember The Legend of Lobo
If Donald Duck isn't fighting in the pacific, it's not real Disney
And if you can't whistle the Steamboat Willie theme, you're not a real fan.
Big kid checking in. Loved MU, BH6, and Zootopia too 😛
Mind you, there's very little Disney I don't enjoy
Even Lobo?
If it's animated, it's probably good 😄
My favorite Disney film growing up was Dumbo, so I was sad to learn that it's full of damaging stereotypes 😦
(don't actually remember Lobo, but I've watched so much over the years)
Eh, most films and even TV shows suffer from that - you just don't always see it until later
Sometimes you don't see it unless you're looking for it...
And some people look really hard, just so they have something to be offended about.
I'm not applying for beatification or anything
I'll try to do alright in my own life
Deification or bust.
That'll do fine. I enjoy holding people under water.
whenever they don't read the docs before asking in channel
And sometimes even if they do
So... 90% of posters then 🤔
That's a skinnier, younger, sexier Tinkerer 😮
Scariest man in fake politics
What show is that?
Cheers. Might check it out, I'm running out of things to watch again.
first two seasons are only 3 eps each, so it's a fairly small time investment to see if it's for you
That makes it an easier sell. I'm not usually a comedy fan... just curious to see what Capaldi's like in it.
dangit. I got up to fault find why my voice command couldn't turn on my light this morning and it looks like my 2.4ghz wireless radio fell off in the night, and smart lights are the only thing in the house that can't failover to 5ghz
Smart
Can't do 5GHz
yeah, all the Tuya-based products in australia have a little note that says "if you are using 5ghz, please use 2.4"
That's quite common for cheaper/older gear. Dual-band is quite new.
(as in last 5 or so years, anyway)
won't be a problem once I get up and go get my test device for clipsal iconic. Those use zigbee
Zigbee ftw 🎉
I am probably going to be such a pain in that channel once I start. Googling that exact product has only yielded people asking if it works and never following up whether they got it going hahah
so what's new mono?
My son: begs me all day to play Xbox with him.
5 minutes in after work: "Dad, if I wanted to play with someone that couldn't hit head shots, I would have just plugged in a second controller and left it on the ground...
I think he's telling me to git gud
He's 7 ☠️
make him go outside
xbox controllers have decent wireless ranges these days, he could actually go play outside
Too young to have him go outside by himself in the city
Hey, we have threads now!
Yeah, but they're non-persistent
I haven't seen anyone really want to use them, because the conversation vanishes later
if you join it, it remains on the channel listing as well as shows at the top
It might be good for support questions because it makes the chain collapsible and might cure people's pinging habits?
it really just seems like a group DM that anyone can access and join to me
I thought that showed for everyone, thank god
never mind
no that sidebar link only shows for those who actually joined the thread
I like it. It could make certain chats and supports a lot neater. Probably won't though
discord in a nutshell
wait, can a person helping/replying make a thread off the other person's question? that means it still might work
I think the bot integration will really be the most interesting
discord.js will support it in v13, and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes out of taht
*of that
like tickets, etc
it's good I suppose if you know you will have to go down a rabbit hole helping someone.
many diffrent conversations in this server can span over days etc
Yep! And then others can help, without it clogging up the channel
It could also keep the questions closer on one page, for those ones that get asked enough times that you guys get annoyed hearing them again
Ooh, I can see bot integrations for that. Common question gets asked, bot replies in thread
Automate helping!
Less channel clog is always good!
You can see other active threads by hovering over the channel name. That way, you can discover threads that aren't archived yet but that you haven't already joined.
Hover on a phone?
You weirdos use this on a phone? 😂
which channel is most suited for hardware recommendations integrateable with HA?
I did, I expected that one to be more for hardware tinkering with tasmota and such
That'd be #diy-archived - as mentioned in the channel's topic
but since I am looking for a camera, would #cameras-archived be the right one?
last time I posted into the seemingly exact topic it was wrong 😉
When in doubt, use #general-archived (like the topic says)

I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion for this challenge. At work I want to process a bunch of daily images to measure the growth of some algae cultures that start out as a circle. There's 12 of them in each photo.
What is the easiest way to feed all images into a batch process? I'd image I can "set" the scale and size in the very first image and store it. I'm guessing I'd have to do some segmentation and ROI-detection.
I'm fairly new to Python, but would welcome suggestions here, unless there's an easier way with ImageJ/Fiji or something similar?
Python is definitely a safe bet for something like that
Although imagej might be better
There's not too many data heavy people active here though
Probably better off asking a science/data community

Anyone owning a house and using solar panels around? I know that things are most likely different around the world, but from an end-user perspective, hvow did you find installation? Is it cost effective for you? How much did "cool tech" and/or "environment" come into play when you decided to install solar panels? Anyone with experience installing panels and then selling the house later on? If so, did that affect the sale process??
We are considering installing solar panels at the house, but here in Norway they are not very widespread yet, and I have no one to discuss with...
Interestingly they're now the default on new build houses in the UK
Really? Thats very cool! So, there has to be "money in it", for all involved parties I suppose?
There's quite a few new build estates going up around us, and every house (or at least apparently every house) has them fitted
I'm betting it's now law, to force people to be more green
The offputting thing for me personally is a combo of roof faces the wrong damn way and cost and disruption
Now, if we also got some Tesla style storage batteries, that's a different game, but that's another mark in the cost column
So cost... That means it takes a long time for you to pay down the panels?
Disruption, in the installation process or a more aesthetically perspective?
Well, getting enough panels fitted to make it worthwhile will be expensive, since our roof is pretty much East/West aligned
So, their efficiency is down, and any we fit will be producing power for less than half the day
And yes, the install process. I don't really care what the roof looks like - I don't see it from inside the house
Someone thinks of their neighbours! 😛
Eh.... given the stuff neighbours have in their gardens solar panels that were neon pink wouldn't be a talking point for that long
It will certainly reach a point where it's worth it, we may just have to be creative
The neighbour behind us just finished building a shed in their garden, so they can watch TV.... 😕
with global interest rates as low as they are right now, rolling the cost of the panels and the deployment into the new build process would probably see returns pretty quickly
Thats creative for you! 🙂
~20k in a 30y mortgage is a drop in the bucket, especially at ~3% interest
Also a lot cheaper to build it in during construction than retro-fit
very true
You have 3% interest???
Heck, pretty soon they'll be only allowed to fit heat pumps (ASHP or GSHP) instead of gas boilers
heat pumps are pretty common states side. though you want the NG furnace for backup if it gets below freezing for long periods of time
Beyond the small combi-boiler setups all setups here have electric backups
electric backups are super gross
You're now talking of house heating via water...?
Yeah, that's normal in the UK
heat pumps are A/C systems run backwards
Yeah....
Radiators or under floor heating, none of this heating/cooling by air convection
Just a bit hard to follow.... It so different to here...
ah gotcha. US its primarily ducted
Warm air heating systems are pretty dated nowadays but can still be found in some older homes. They effectively work like air conditioning in reverse – heating rather than cooling.
🤣
Says one UK source
I feel like we skipped a part somewhere along the evolution of modern heating technologies.... Sort went right from an open fire to electrical heaters.....
lol if its above freezing Heat Pumps are the most efficient form of heating
Heat pump + underfloor for heating and cooling
"take heat from outside, put it inside"
"but its really cold outside!" "not colder than refrigerant"
Also with GSHP you're taking it from somewhere that's not so cold as outside, probably
the only reason it loses efficiency below freezing is because the condenser wants to ice over and the system has to flip back to A/C mode for a bit to melt it all off
Anyone bought from OpenGarage recently? I placed an order and it didn't come with tracking...feels kinda weird
I'm in northern Canada and have had panels for 3 ish years now.
Cool tech and environmental reasons were like 50% of the reason.
It's a 6kW system, SolarEdge inverter, 11 year expected payback on what it cost.
Odiv, not off grid though?
If we didn't have net metering here (where the power company credits us at retail for the power we send the grid) then it wouldn't have been worth it.
Yeah no batteries, 100% grid tied.
If the power goes out, then we have no power, even on sunny days.
Power here is about $0.25 a kWh.
So right now I'm getting a $20 power bill every month, just the connection fee. Then eventually around Nov or so my built up credit runs out. 😛
I would love to go off grid. But like, Sweden isn't good for winters when it comes to sunshine
Yeah, I don't generate anything from late Oct to mid March. Or so.
If I was a bit better on the snow clearing I would make a little bit, but it's hard to motivate yourself to do like 2 hours of clearing for what might amount to like eight bucks.
With electric car and such, it just isn't possible :(
Oh yeah no kidding.
Would need a huge array of panels and batteries
How cold does it get there and how are you finding the electric car?
Not got it yet, planning for future
Ah.
Ordered a Octavia plug in Hybrid though
It gets down to about - 25C
I am about same "height" as Stockholm so it could be worse :)
I really like the panels, but yeah so far investing the money into the solar company would have been a way better spend. 🤔
But realistically, would need a very energy efficient house with redundant heating from a wood burning stove
Still, nice to make physical improvements to one's house.
Absolutely
Some places you're not allowed to be "off grid".
I move in 16th august. Bought a gigantic project :D
Yep. I am toying with the idea of building a small system in my shed.
With batteries.
Power outages here are not infrequent, especially in the summer.
They are super expensive though :(
But I think it would be too much hassle to actually use that power.
A small system wouldn't be that much, but yeah to actually make it the backup power for my server and networking gear would be too much trouble, I think.
@fallow fox feel free to ask any questions. I might even have an answer.
Hi 😊
@hot merlin Hey! I feel like the two discussions that came on the back of my question did answer a few things. I have put to rest any thought of storing energy myself at least! 😉
Guess who bought a house and can do all the home automation things from scratch 😏

i want to allow to input only 8 digit long value. How to do that?
i got it. value between 10000000 and 99999999

I used to hate RegEx until I forced myself to work with it. It's often way more elegant to use it than to code a functionality equivalent alternative.
I wish I'd found out about JavaScript's named RegEx captures sooner too. Together with object destructuring, those are amazing.
@fallow karma is the puzzled face because you don't know what that means?
Regular Expressions? 😄
Well... yeah... but I meant the expression that Thomas gave in particular 😂
8 digits 8️⃣ 8️⃣8️⃣
RegEx are so simple. This is the official one to match RFC5322 compliant email addresses:
(?:[a-z0-9!#$%&'*+/=?^_`{|}~-]+(?:\.[a-z0-9!#$%&'*+/=?^_`{|}~-]+)*|"(?:[\x01-\x08\x0b\x0c\x0e-\x1f\x21\x23-\x5b\x5d-\x7f]|\\[\x01-\x09\x0b\x0c\x0e-\x7f])*")@(?:(?:[a-z0-9](?:[a-z0-9-]*[a-z0-9])?\.)+[a-z0-9](?:[a-z0-9-]*[a-z0-9])?|\[(?:(?:25[0-5]|2[0-4][0-9]|[01]?[0-9][0-9]?)\.){3}(?:25[0-5]|2[0-4][0-9]|[01]?[0-9][0-9]?|[a-z0-9-]*[a-z0-9]:(?:[\x01-\x08\x0b\x0c\x0e-\x1f\x21-\x5a\x53-\x7f]|\\[\x01-\x09\x0b\x0c\x0e-\x7f])+)\])
you're right
\d means any numeric character (0-9)
{8} means match the thing before it exactly 8 times
If you ever need to read a RegEx pattern, www.regex101.com is great.
It'll explain what the pattern does, and also gives you a space to paste in stuff and see what matches and what doesn't. I use it all the time.
Knowledge ,where to find information is pricesless
Indeed. That's why I'm paid so much for knowing what to Google.
You're right. It's good to have a black belt in google
That's one for the resume, honestly
"Highly proficient with Google, StackOverflow, etc."
Or an interview question: solve this using Google
I didn't particularly enjoy having to do whiteboard exercises in my recent round of interviews... but I did like that they cared more about how you found the answer than whether you'd memorised it.
I Googled gratuitously in all of them and got great feedback.
This 100F heat can suck it.. go away summer
Texas checking in- yep, it’s hot
21 degrees celsius = 69.8 degrees fahrenheit!
That's string vest weather right there.
🎵 Bilbo... Bilbo Baggins... He's only three feet tall 🎵
🤔
@tidal bronzeyou sure do alot of thinking anymore
I was thinking about all these fires and blah blah in Cali and you have 100 degree weather. Hmm
oh you mean how's probably like closer to 200F around you?
are your poor lawn speakers melting?
Sweet 85
that where the needle melted?
So it's 100F and humid in Kansas City huh 💩
44% so not quite feeling like trying to breathe under the ocean yet but it still sucks
It's been a toasty summer all across.
all across? you bastards escape the shit you create because of how the wind blows from west to east
i am surprised there hasn't been talks of nuking your state yet just to elevate some of the problems you asshats bring onto the rest of us lol
Forecast here tomorrow is 86% humidity... can't remember the last time I saw a day under 80%.
It's not as hot here... but the humidity sucks.
Just left east coast, yep it was shitty🤣
yea east coast gets it from everyone west of them lol
friend in jersey bitches about 100F and 90% humidity all the time
like living in @dull chasm town
Can take any temp but not humidity, no way.
Was 92 and freaking humid in NY, didn't even go outside for a smoke. Disaster
sounds more like karma
But then, they think it's a beautiful summer. SMH
may your flight home carry that enviroment with you back to your torched state
4 x Gin an tonic washes all that away
is that why you always drink? can't handle the reality of the environment of everywhere else beside your speaker infested home?
Yep 💯
I try not to go anywhere in the summer but unfortunately work makes me. I see people in FL at a beach in the summer and want to file my teeth.
on the beach isn't bad. the direct air from the ocean balances it out. it's just far away enough from the ocean where that wind is blocked it becomes a shit show
Nope not in FL. It's a shitshow 24/7
I didn't think it was too bad back in 2003 when I went to disney
Orlando is always humid 🤢
I went to Disney FL for like 2 hours next 7 days inside my room. No thank you.
People pay money to feel that shitty all day. 🤯
worst place i ever been was like Mississippi
every other coastal state was tolerable
Galveston Texas was even ok
well you were obviously born in a vacuum and your poor delicate skin can't handle the harsh environment of the outside cali planet
nope never been to the west coast at all
We should revisit this after you do.
the grand canyon was as close as I got lol
Ouch AZ
Once you get used to low humidity takes about month or two not to sweat like a nut job in most these other places.
well you can get use to high humidity and not sweat as well lol
i doubt vasily is always looking like
That's me always in east coast 😆
But what about damn pollen allergies, bugs, mosquitoes etc etc. 🤧
they help distract from the temps and humidity lol
Lmao. None of that crap here. 😄
you have insects there lol
you guys get all the worst crap that has stingers and such lol
Not LA we don't even think about that stuff. Bees yeah
wasp
Hmm never encountered or heard.
you have them
you get yellow jackets
which are the worst ones
and you even have those hawk wasp things
Show me one day when you visit here.
show you? look up info on your own state lol
Oh you mean state of California 🤣 dude. Wake up.
meanwhile, amercians be like "Australia has everything evil in it"
I swear, does your housing community sp[ray the surrounding areas like they do at Disney? there has to be something taken place just outside your view that is keeping you from seeing all this shit lmao
Everything is acceptable, not humidity 😄
Yeah, a lot of city planning used to involve concrete everything and only later did people figure out that big wind blocks and all hard surfaces basically bounce around and trap heat in the place you keep all your people
I don't know if it applies to your locality but I have found any places with more green stuff starts to feel better when subjected to similar weather conditions
I doubt green solves humidity issue.
I mean, if it gives it less reflected heat to imbue it with all of your problems
some places can have high humidity on a colder day and you'd be less inclined to hate it
wind is key to humidity
moisture too
yea but hot and humid with no wind is fucking death. with wind you can actually bare it
West coast solves all this. No need to scratch heads and run algorithms. It's crispy and fresh always. 😀
apparently the humidity here atm is 69% and I had to tell you that so I could say "nice"
till the poles reverse then you will suffer what the east coast has been for years
Isn't it too early to be thinking about poles 🤔
where is your head at? i don't want to know
I have a couple of friends who are always thinking or posting to social media about poles. It's a sport now
apparently*
@forest edge thinking about grilling something as soon as I get home.
I bought an ebook bundle on humble and for a change I hit bulk download by torrent thinking it would have the entire thing built into one, or tier collections; but instead my browser just downloaded 50 individual files that I then have to open...
yum. what's a poivre?
those rabbit droppings?
those are bubble tea balls
Lol. Steak with green peppercorn sauce.
typical 5 star cali plate decor
I swear you all live your life by those cooking competition shows lol
Somewhat true. 🤣
I mean if it's got what it needs to sustain you and tastes good it's probably not a bad way to live
30% of my dinners are eaten off a paper plate simply because I don't want to wash anything
You know they have these new machines that can wash dishes for you
Any sauce made with flambeed cognac is always good. 😄
closest thing to fancy sauce around here comes tossed in the bag with the food and requires you to peel the tab top off
I make all from scratch. Other than tapatio ,Tabasco and cholula
life is too short for that nonsense
Yep this IS
now i know where that slogan comes from where they say, "Eat more and weigh less" the food you eat is actually eating you from the inside lmao
Lol. Weigh less, now thats the problem.
I did the thing!
bro
So essentially he is sponsoring github? Does github take a cut?
That’s how you clean money
i think they do, not sure tho
well github themselves are sponsoring him?
tf
afaik the top 10 projects get some github love, ha being one of them and this balloob dude has obviously something to do with it
C'mon, Frenck. Why not top 5?
the first guy is automatically coauthor in every commit to some repositories... how does this even work?
he has 2490 commits in one day.
I guess they have pipelines set up that commit from their account. That's one of the reasons stats like that aren't important.
It's not a sign that he's a good/regular contributor. Anyone could automate that shit.
Frenck, on the other hand... he's genuinely active. He has his hands in so many projects.
I modified a 230V bulb to work at 12V by removing the transformer inside. Once the smoke cleared, I opened it up to see it clearly stated 5V inside 🤦♂️
Hahaha
Happy to know I'm not the only one who did that
Hey guys, I'm looking for a solution for my wifi at home.
Currently in the process of getting (somewhat) enterprise grade hardware, esp for networking.
Gonna move my HA from my mini PC to a real server.
The start gonna be a Sophos XG 135 which I'll flash with OPNsense.
But I am still not settled on what to go for for the Switches and WAPs.
Lots of factors at play. Budget. Property size. Requirements. Country...
Thought about mikrotik (and also going for 10G via fiber but tbh there is no reason). Already overkill that I got a server and also a server cabinet lul
Do you want a single AP, multiple, mesh?
And ofc ubiquiti.

Yeah, same here but I mean their stuff is soo easy, but tbh, I don't even need super easy, as I also want to learn more about networking. Sys admin here
@lament coral
@lament coral
@lament coral don't tag
@lament coral
@lament coral
@lament coral thanks
Sorry
I continue to be shocked at how even the damn GIF doesn't make the point to people about that
So.... answers to the questions above ?
12h of work today 😫 I know no excuse
Sucks to be you
😛
I have a Maisonette. My Fritzbox, quite good router very popular in Germany.
But the connection In my bedroom is.. not good which is unacceptable. Also, the Fritzbox can't do VLANs which I want as I want to separate my smarthome stuff from my other stuff. Also want a guest Network etc
So, a single centrally located AP may well do you then
Budget.. hard to say, I am not fixed, but under 1k€ would be cool. Doesn't have to be new either.
WiFi ... 5/6/6e/whatever?
The AP is quite central. A second AP and the wifi coverage would solve the range Problem, but yeah, I wanna go a bit ham. Also to learn stuff.
WiFi version, does it even matter? I only have my phone and my notebook in the wifi and I am not pushing that much data. And of course my ESPs and yeelights.
My current router is running wifi 5 and it works quite well, so wifi 5 would be more than fine
I need a few switches.
At least one of them should be able to be rack mounted for my server cabinet.
But the others can be 8 ports desktop switches
I'm running Cisco SG200, SG250, and SG300 series switches throughout the house, very happy with them
Mikrotik Looks very appealing, especially price/"hardware value" wise
How many ports you looking for on the larger switches?
What are you using for wifi? Cisco APs?
Aruba APs for WiFi
Well, hard to tell. I will need like 10 for the start, but I want 24 ports at least.
Well, 24 ports should be enough for like forever
24 ports suddenly get all filled 😄
But maybe I want to do a Link Aggregation
Worth a look. That's a fully managed L3 switch ^
Thought so to, so if a 48 port isn't that more expensive
Can you centrally manage the WAPs
Cisco stuff is ... not terrible, but Mikrotik is good enough for home use (and some) and a lot cheaper 😛
Is Mikrotik really cheaper?
Also this ^
Most of my Cisco switches were bought on ebay for less than half their retail price
If you buy new, Well, just look at their Website. You'd assume it is a bad joke
The only one bought new was an SG250-10P, because that's a specialty part
cisco stuff gets sold dirt cheap due to the firmware paywall
similar to the HP Gen9 stuff
There's no firmware paywall on the SG series switches, actually
They're small-business, not enterprise
ah there ya go
I want to learn more about networking... And also get knowledge... Which I could use at work... No company uses mikrotik.
that you know of.
What do you use at home @bitter pawn ?
Then Cisco or Juniper are reasonable choices, though I'd personally go Cisco
i have a pair of brocades at home
TBH, learn how networks work and then it's just implementation details
its like what, 80% of servers are linux based right?
It's like learning to use another *nix flavour, not that hard once you learn one
so you'd think that most server work you'd fine in a small-medium city would be linux right?
Windows
at my last job it was only windows servers we were working on and installing
so its meh
Well, I got more than the basics. But I kinda never had the chance to try stuff out.
My apprenticeship company didn't want seperated Networks. Boss knew everything better.
The job I worked before had its own network department
My current job has it sourced out lul
my take is, learn on the stuff that will do what you want it to.
And a consumer Router won't do that. Also non managed Switches won't do that.
there are advantages to managed switches
no one is debating that
just brand preference is kinda meh
Nothing against the Fritzbox. It is the best Router you can get in Germany.
I learned networking basics before I touched Cisco, having learned Cisco it was easy enough to manage Mikrotik and other brands
because my brocade will route traffic similarly to that cisco, just like a zyxel. only difference is how you tell it to do it.
and with varying performance
Nah, I work at an MSP in California. We almost exclusively manage Windows servers for our clients...

nods
Nobody wants to pay the premium for a Linux sysadmin. lol
windows servers are evil.
but yeah linux sysadmins are more evil.
trololololololz xD
Yes, yes we are
I really have to say, the way of ubiquiti is super sexy, if you get a dream machine you can manage |everything from one gui, but this is the easy mode.
If you want to learn how to drive networking kit, don't use the UIs
I've had pushback just getting our engineers to embrace Windows Server Core, let alone Linux
And Server Core is actually pretty nice if you're comfortable with the command line
Or, hell, connect the management tools installs on a full-fat Windows install to your core instance. Boom, GUI management with no GUI on the server
Now, that said, I've been slowly replacing any server in our own internal infrastructure I can with RHEL. I call it "operation job security"
I'd like to have a central solution to manage my wifi, that you can only find with ubiquiti, so I gave up on that. Also, I kinda have it, my opnsense
@lament coral Check out Aruba IAP series WAPs
@subtle pasture will do!
They have an integrated controller, and will cluster together for high-availability of the controller
How is it with AP "Roaming". I mean, every consumer brand offers those mesh stuff.
Ahh, like this?
