just don't buy LG appliances 🤢

subtle pasture

Pixel 3 is actually a downgrade from the V35...

dusky plank
subtle pasture
#

Same SoC, smaller battery, less RAM, shittier camera, smaller screen, etc.

forest edge
#

just saying, it offers all those things

subtle pasture
#

Except it's worse in every way than my current phone. lol

forest edge
#

it's still going to be supported tho..

#

and pure android > everything else

subtle pasture
#

The V35 is still supported, and runs very-nearly stock Android because LG wanted to get updates out faster 🤷‍♀️

forest edge
#

well glad you got a future proof phone

subtle pasture
#

It'll last about as long as a Pixel 3. lol

forest edge
#

I doubt that lol

#

I still get all the latest as it comes out lol

#

before other manufactures to boot

subtle pasture
#

These phones were literally released the same year... lol...

#

May 2018 for the V35 and October 2018 for the Pixel 3

forest edge
#

yea but you know who owns one and who owns the other 😉

subtle pasture
#

No wonder they use the same SoC

subtle pasture
#

Oh, you're right, Google owns the other... fuck Google >_>

clear ferry
#

Samsung was definitely a downgrade

#

I'm going back to Huawei next time

Huawei and Redmi are basically non-options because they lack WiFi calling in the US

forest edge
#

norwegian backing the wrong company.. what a shock...

clear ferry
#

@subtle pasture yeah, only a us problem I guess, but the whole telecom situation there is bonkers 🤣

forest edge
#

Huawei is tarnished in the us lol

subtle pasture
#

If they don't want to support a phone, they just... don't...

clear ferry
#

That would be illegal here

dusky plank
#

I have this apple phone... since more than 12 years

subtle pasture
#

@clear ferry The government chains them to a desk and forces them to release a ROM for every phone, ever?

deft pewter
clear ferry
#

We just use the international ROM on everything

clever mortar
#

Something something standards something

subtle pasture
#

I'm pretty sure we have this situation because each carrier has their own patented standard, so there's no way for it to be integrated into a single ROM without the OEM paying for it

deft pewter
#

So why don't they just unify? Oh, right... money.

clear ferry
#

I have WiFi calling across Europe

subtle pasture
#

Good for you, lol

clear ferry
#

Guess I didn't have it when I was in the us then

subtle pasture
#

I still can't buy the Redmi phone I wanted because it'd be non-functional in my house, which is a massive 4G deadzone

forest edge
deft pewter
#

Standardisation doesn't mean lower privacy.

forest edge
#

depends on the rom

#

in most cases the only differences is the different bands being turned off but because of modern laws now those differences include various options/features being altered depending on country

#

in huawei's case it was about privacy issues

#

and the international versions didn't cut anything out lol

#

er should i say global

deft pewter
#

Privacy or 'privacy'? We all know the US and China aren't getting along well right now.

forest edge
#

these companies don't make "special" us versions just to screw with one country, what happens is a country finds something that goes against it's laws and that company has a choice between offering an altered os version or just not be sold in that country period

#

happens in eu all the time

#

infact for the last 2 years you read more about stuff violating eu law more than anywhere else

deft pewter
#

these companies don't make "special" us versions just to screw with one country
Who even suggested they do?
what happens is a country finds something that goes against it's laws and that company has a choice between offering an altered os version or just not be sold in that country period
So... the US sanctions against 'Chinese spyware'?

deft pewter
forest edge
#

how not?

#

don't get local news?

deft pewter
#

Lol, this again? You're always bragging about how you don't need to know anything that happens outside of the US - now that a discussion involves knowing something about the EU, you suddenly claim to read international news 😂

clear ferry
#

We have TAA firmware for a lot of switches, the only difference with the international firmware is that it is compiled in the US

#

🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

forest edge
#

bragging?

deft pewter
#

I was trying to put a positive spin on it so you can save face. If you'd rather I went with 'clueless', I'd be happy to oblige.

#

Anyway... this started out as a sensible discussion. I'm done.

Don't forget you can edit your post rather than repeatedly posting the same thing.

forgot the USB stick there

In theory I could probably just have sent it by mail courier there and done it remotely, but murica rules

like when our customer facing servers with our firmwares were down, and I had an offline sftp-server with all the stuff on it anyway, and shared that with a customer that needed the file for immediate remidation

Happy Doge Day

clear ferry

#

There are probably a couple reasons for that...

#

First, the source code for the original 1998 Furby leaked

#

Second, people like to make... these...

#

Google image search "Long Furby" for some nightmare fuel

clear ferry
#

safe search off intensifies

subtle pasture
#

I have a copy of the complete source code. There's some wild stuff in there... and it totally explains why they start to sound like screeching hellspawn when their batteries run low

forest edge
#

@clear ferry want us to send you a couple thousand furby's?

clear ferry
forest edge
subtle pasture
#

There's no voltage regulator in a furby, so the motor will want to run faster on new batteries than on old ones... in fact, fresh AA batteries will over-spin the motor, but the software accounts for this

#

Every time it runs the motor, which has an encoder, it checks how fast it's running, and will speed up or slow down code execution to compensate

clear ferry
#

Would buy this organ @forest edge

subtle pasture
#

When the batteries start to run down, furby eventually becomes unable to compensate for the motor speed without audio playback artifacts

#

So you can blame the lack of a simple voltage regulator for furby's weird low battery behavior. lol

#

"Just fix it in software"
"Just fix... voltage regulation in software?"
"Yeah, you can do that, right?"

subtle pasture
#

Probably to save a few cents on each one. They were toys, after all

#

And the software does keep them operating normally across a wide range of voltages...

My backpack

work keys, badge, car

clear ferry

I have 40+ access cards, that seems like a lot of tiles to cover

brisk glen
#

I can never find my car at a massive mall with my wife after 3 hours

clever mortar
#

I can't say I've ever lost anything like that. No keys, no pass, no wallet...

clear ferry
#

Yeah, I've either

deft pewter
clever mortar
#

Worst case, I'm looking on the wrong surface at home. Everywhere else, they're in a pocket/bag

static schooner
#

It just takes once

brisk glen
#

@deft pewter my short term memory is meh

deft pewter
dusky plank
#

when you go hiking, skiing and whatnot.. the keys can get lost in a lot of bags

clever mortar
brisk glen
#

my long term memory is fantastic tho

deft pewter

Alzheimer's is not circumvented by tiles

deft pewter

I don't want to have to worry about boring crap like parking location when I'm out for a day of Disney.

brisk glen
#

I hate taking photos, it forces me to clean up my photo library later

dusky plank
#

jeez, I just told you I want one. stop fighting 😄

clear ferry
#

I empty my photo library once a year

clever mortar
#

Though, for me, everything has a default pocket. I have one jacket that has only a single inside pocket, not where I normally put the wallet, and that jacket confuses the hell out of me every time my wallet is "missing" 😄

clear ferry
#

I never clean up

brisk glen
#

i wonder if the cat will be ok with an airtag...

clever mortar
#

Implant it and find out?

deft pewter
#

Be careful which end you implant it in.

tile - story,
That deam thing saved my purse wallet in the train once.
Some creep sat rirght besides me even if the hole train was empty. Was cind of nervus, just an odd thing to do. An hour later or so I checked may things fuckfuckfuck.jpg Purse gone, not here, not there, not on the floor. idea.jpg let it ring.
Oh look at this! my purse is wondering magicaly to the side where I can pick it up

#

but they are heavily overprised, at least I get them gifted from my mom every couple of years when see needs a new one

deft pewter
#

Wallet

#

A purse is either a lady's wallet (UK) or a lady's bag (US).

#

Crazy Europeans....

hearty depot
#

lol thx, yea
thank my teacher in 5th grade for that one

deft pewter
#

Your teacher is an idiot.

#

Did you make it to 6th grade?

hearty depot
#

apperantly. miracles and wonders
But as you see, the standards wer'nt high

#

oh yea!
happy 420!

WHO ASKED FOR THIS

#

the apple tv remote has taken a real nose dive

orchid rose
#

what's wrong with it?

dusky plank
#

lol

rose moth
#

the newer (now older) one looked so much better

dusky plank
#

that thing ugly

rose moth
#

it looks like the shitty remotes you got with macbook pros in the early 2010s

lapis cipher
#

looks like a remote for retards

rose moth
#

new imacs are neat tho

lapis cipher
#

just too many buttons

orchid rose
#

I kinda like that, so that must mean you guys are wrong

orchid rose
#

Actually it is missing stop and info buttons that I might need, but other than that I think it has everything

rose moth
#

also the new ipads have thunderbolt, but their iphones still dont fucking have usb c

orchid rose
#

That's just to save the environment because you'd have to buy cables when upgrading your phone

rose moth
#

ipads actually are neat

#

but the iphones are such a mess

deft pewter
#

I think iPods and iPads are the things Apple got right. They were so well refined.

#

Their computers... 🤢

#

Overpriced crap.

hearty depot
#

I get soon my first pinephone

lapis cipher
#

tested a pad ~year ago, it was incredibly responsive no matter what i did with it. Then again it cost like 1800 eur or so, shouldn't expect anything less then. But it was nice, must agree

low harness
#

Oh, aint that neat? A silent update to Windows Terminal, and suddenly ctrl+v pastes what's in my clipboard??

#

Why would anyone want that?

dusky plank
#

lol

deft pewter
#

As in it interferes with vim key mappings?

dusky plank
#

ssh? nobody needs that shiat

low harness
#

And even worse. They hijack ctrl+c too!

#

Way to make everything useless

dusky plank
#

no cancel?

low harness
#

Luckily it can be turned off.

dusky plank
#

not to mention ctrl+a and ctrl+e

deft pewter
#

I only use Windows Terminal for WSL stuff. I'll have to change those settings next time.

hearty depot
#

the pinephones are 200€ so i expect not to much.

dusky plank
#

paging in nano is now also f'ed with ctrl+v huh?

deft pewter
#

Maybe? But what kind of monster even uses nano?

dusky plank
#

I expected that response, you Optimus Maximus user! 😄

deft pewter
#

It's not my fault you've yet to embrace the superior ways of vim.

lapis cipher
#

aren't you now proud of your skills 😄

deft pewter
#

I'm not skilled. Not compared to some of the old folk we have in here that have been using computers for hundreds of years.

dusky plank
#

you don't need vim for that 😄

lapis cipher
#

nah, i'm actually happy you've taken the path to master it, step by step, have myself a lot to learn still

deft pewter
#

I was pleased the other day when I discovered macros. Managed to automate something that normally takes me a couple of minutes.

#

It only took 30 minutes to learn how to do it... so it's a net loss for now.

lapis cipher
#

for now

dusky plank
#

you don't do python in vim, do you?

deft pewter
#

Naw. I'm a JS dev.

dusky plank
#

or js either

deft pewter
#

I don't edit in vim anyway. I've added a vim plugin to WebStorm so I can benefit from a real IDE and still have the speed of vim.

lapis cipher
#

could be educating myself but instead i'm watching a stupid nerd movie Blackhat... haven't seen vim but many other things... plaah

deft pewter
#

Does he use vim or nano in that? Let us know.

lapis cipher
deft pewter
#

Meh. That's just basic command line stuff.

#

Where's the hacking?

lapis cipher
#

well, he went to a datacenter, walked to a right rack, scrolled down servers for few secs and plugged that drive in, that is some next level skills

deft pewter
#

leet

lapis cipher
#

yes he did hack into nsa and stuff already.. this is all shit, no idea why i'm wasting my time but once i start watching something i just can't stop

#

cool, nc.exe was used

deft pewter
#

On a *nix system? 🤔

static schooner
#

zsh: command not found: nc.exe

low harness
#

Could be wsl

lapis cipher
#

or, could have been a windows command prompt?-D

deft pewter
#

Did he customise his shell on the systems he's hacking? Colour themes, aliases, etc?

#

Can't just use bash, gotta get that oh-my-zsh going on.

low harness
#

If you're not using powerline, are you really a hacker?

#

(god that thing is UGLY!)

dusky plank
#

powerline? that ethernet over power thing?

deft pewter
#

That'd be one hell of a fingerprint to leave on a compromised system.

low harness
#

This humongous monstrosity everyone puts in their vim and zsh and everything

dusky plank
#

lol

deft pewter
#

oh-my-zsh has that stuff built in if you want it. I quite like it for seeing clean/dirty when working in a git repo but I've trimmed mine down.
