deft pewter

Since all the dev nerds are out in force tonight... does this look like valid C? I want to have an array of themes, where each theme has 3 colours:

typedef struct {
   uint8_t primary[3];
   uint8_t secondary[3];
   uint8_t ternary[3];
} colour_theme;

const colour_theme PROGMEM themes[] = {
    [_WINDOWS] = { CYAN, AZURE, PINK },
    [_MAC] = {},
    [_LIGHTS_MEDIA] = {},
};```
lapis cipher
#

mm gopher, no stupid multimedia all over the place but facts, pure facts (must be since they were in the internet)

deft pewter
#

Second and third are incomplete, just toying with the structure.

dusky plank
#

that is some very abstract C

deft pewter
#

I should probably mention that the colours referenced are HSV values (triplets of numbers)

lapis cipher
#

i thought the third is tertiary, not ternary but i guess i learned yet another new word to my vocabulary (it still has holes)

deft pewter
#

There'll be other code that runs later that checks the currently set theme and picks out the colours.

deft pewter
#

Both are words but tertiary is correct here.

lapis cipher
#

wasn't suppose to pick on words, i thought it was correct use, could be also bad translation for me.. ๐Ÿ™‚

glacial knot
#

Does that stay assignment/initialization work that way? Iโ€™ve never done it with induces to apply to

deft pewter
#

I've got a grand total of 3 hours experience with C so far, so I have no idea ๐Ÿ˜„

#

Structs and all these C-types are new to me. I normally work in the wild west with JS.

glacial knot
#

Welcome to pain then

#

The good kind

dusky plank
#

looks like the simplified arduino C, but then again I only learned ++

glacial knot
#

I also recommend doing the { .primary = CYAN, .secondary = AZURE, .ternary = PINK } style. But I don't know if it's required tbh. Probably works by order as well

deft pewter
#

By order seems to work based on other code I'm using as a guide, just means having to reference by array index instead. I'm happy to change it to named entries, since it'll be easier to reason with later.

#

It's going to be used in a routine like this: https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/BdmkD3mR6G/. I'm just going to adapt set_layer_color to differentiate between different groupings of keys and set primary/secondary/tertiary accordingly.

dusky plank
deft pewter
#

At the moment, it's just looking at a 1:1 mapping of LED colours to keys.

lapis cipher
#

christ, you are writing a firmware to your new keyboard?

deft pewter
#

Aye ๐Ÿ˜„

lapis cipher
#

looked at that pastebin and realized ๐Ÿ˜„

deft pewter
#

I've figured out a lot of the logic and custom functionality already. Just trying to write colour themes now for when it's in different modes.

I want to remove all that and handle it in a function that just knows about theme colours.

glacial knot
#

Looks qmk ish

deft pewter

lapis cipher
#

you need both

late gate
#

I think you can login with only private

#

the server private

clever mortar
#

You keep the private key, the public key goes to the systems you want to log in to

#

That's kinda how it works ๐Ÿ˜‰

lapis cipher
#

are you maybe confused on how the pub key auth is supposed to work?

late gate
#

yes I agree

velvet horizonBOT
late gate
#

no I do get the principal

lapis cipher
#

so its safe to drop your public keys anywhere, take extra care of your private and of course have it pw protected also

late gate
#

I just wondered if you guys generated a set of keys on each machine and added all to the servers auth keys

lapis cipher
#

should you automate something over ssh, then generate another keypair

hearty depot
#

also diffie hellman part?

clever mortar
#

I use an SSH CA

static schooner
#

Bob and Alice sure do have a lot of stuff to talk about

late gate
#

and of course off port 22

#

install one server on digital ocean, let it stay for 30 minutes and you have 200 tries on login from bots

lapis cipher
#

no generating any keys on any servers unless necessary for some automation that originates from that server

dusky plank
#

none of them have the correct priv/public combo

hearty depot
lapis cipher
#

backup from server could be one use-case that needs keys to access some other server, for these cases create new keypair so that should need arise you can just "revoke" those

hearty depot
late gate
#

Im getting better, but still admit I have more to learn

dusky plank
#

you have a 10k budget for monitors hombre

lapis cipher
#

said "revoke" as you can just ditch and create new ones

late gate
#

and?

#

with CA do you sign your own certificates?

hearty depot
#

already shared this, but after basicaly everyone owns a ssh key already, https://github.com/FiloSottile/age/
I just love it

GitHub

A simple, modern and secure encryption tool (and Go library) with small explicit keys, no config options, and UNIX-style composability. - FiloSottile/age

late gate
#

guess only for private use?

hearty depot
#

with a CA you got 2 keys,
A CA and a regular key
with the CA you singe the public key and you get a certificate
Then you use the personal private key certificate combo to login into the server

#

I got a walk throu example around

late gate
#

so for example if i wanted to remove the no certificate error in ha that is hosted by ip I can create a certificate for it?

#

or do I need a domain name?

#

Its allowed to ask to learn :p

lapis cipher
#

certs -> names

hearty depot
#

I guess it is ๐Ÿ˜„
you can do that too, but it's a diffrent thing then the CA Login I described

dusky plank
#

well you can also go cert -> ip, but it's nowhere valid

late gate
#

but more secure than making a sub domain, sign it lets lets and forward it to f.ex the router

lapis cipher
#

yeah its possible but its very special case, you would need to own an public ip for starters and so forth. Also you can create self-signed cert for private ip address using alt name

late gate
#

what do you mean with alt names?

hearty depot
#

curl -sLO https://gist.githubusercontent.com/Underknowledge/8abcb66635628557b6c64e22c94f9e99/raw/38f8fe905d801489546e6fd9146f3ae448c38336/step-by-step-ca.sh; bash step-by-step-ca.sh

lapis cipher
#

lets step back far enough to understand what are you actually trying to achieve here? We are shooting with technologies while we don't know what we are even doing ๐Ÿ™‚

dusky plank
#

fancy 127.0.0.1 certs party ๐Ÿฅณ

lapis cipher
#

questions are good but they are out of context so its really difficult to give any proper answers

late gate
#

I kinda just want to step one step further in knowledge as I never been too into certificates. Im ok with internet certificates, but certificates on an intranet im more noob. In general I just dont like to see the warning

lapis cipher
#

you can always add your CA's cert to your browser and it stops complaining

late gate
#

That is very true, but it feels like a cheat

#

if it was a better practise I would like to learn

static schooner
#

there's literally something for everyone in this project ๐Ÿ™‚

dusky plank
#

what is a second 2.0 version?
is that 2.0.2 ?

static schooner
#

lol, version confusion

dusky plank
#

it's even reporting 18 installations

#

that's some quality automation stuff, I can smell it

hoary canyon
#

This has probably been asked dozens of times. Was anyone else's initial release of 2021.4 really buggy?

static schooner
#

not for me?

hoary canyon
#

Me and some others had some issues with MQTT, Speedtest, Samba and more

subtle pasture
static schooner
#

nor any of the betas leading up to it

hoary canyon
#

That's odd. Alot of people in another smart home server I'm in have had issues with integrations

late gate
#

finally switched to wpa-3 and turned off upnp - been on my lazy todo list

static schooner
#

I would encourage those people to help beta test

hoary canyon
subtle pasture
#

Heh, I barely have any client devices that support WPA3...

clever mortar
#

I have ... one maybe ๐Ÿ˜„

hoary canyon
#

I think the only thing that supports WPA3 is our iPhone 12 Pros and 12

subtle pasture
#

It's probably because you can already address the biggest issue with WPA2 by setting a long/complex password...

#

You can potentially crack a WPA2 password, but shorter passwords are exponentially easier to crack than longer ones

late gate
#

Do anyone know how far from a plane / airport I need to be to get issues with high channel 5g?

clever mortar
#

About 20 feet ||underground|| will do it

late gate
#

dunno if it exist a map or something

clever mortar
#

Well, the answer will depend on geography too

subtle pasture
#

You know what's real fun? When someone brings over an old DS and can't connect to WiFi because the damn thing only supports WEP...

clever mortar
#

If you have things in the way blocking the signal, you can be closer than if you don't

subtle pasture
#

Last time that happened, I temporarily added an additional Guest SSID named "shitbucket" so that they could update their DS. lol

lapis cipher
#

i lost the track on airplanes and 5g

subtle pasture
#

Also, Aruba WAPs warn you like crazy when trying to set WEP on an SSID... like, they REALLY want you to know it's a bad idea >_>

clear ferry
#

WEP

#

Oh lawd

late gate
#

I have unifi and in my old house it spammed airplane radar everyime a plane went past

clear ferry
#

I haven't seen that since 2006

subtle pasture
#

@clear ferry Yeah, thankfully I only needed that SSID up for about an hour

#

Nintendo isn't exactly up on their networking standards...

#

The Switch still doesn't support IPv6

late gate

then you should try to setup a mill oven :p

dusky plank

event horizon it is

deft pewter

One day, I'll ask the missus if she wants to watch a Sam Neill movie. She'll naturally assume I mean Jurassic Park and I'll do a switch and bait, and make her watch Event Horizon ๐Ÿ˜„

I watched Daybreakers last night. It's just as bad as I remember.

#

@shy comet did you finish setting up ledfx?

late gate
#

The monitor I have today is about 50 inches (super wide), but its way to wide. Anyone with 43" and can say if it feels a bit less huge?

deft pewter
peak mountain
#

Thought I would ask here, but what do you guys think of discord's code feature? The one where you can upload code files and it will display them automatically

deft pewter
#

Is that live yet? I remember someone mentioned it's in canary.

peak mountain
#

It's live for me in the default app. I think it looks great ๐Ÿ‘

last dirge
#

it's used on this other channel I'm on

deft pewter
#

I think it'll fall foul of the spam rules and incur the wrath of HassBot... if it makes it easy for people to upload massive files, they'll upload massive files.

last dirge
#

but I don't know if that's something they wrote or not

deft pewter
#

Dotly - feel free to send me a DM with a file, I'm interested to see what it looks like without spamming these channels.

#

Looks really neat, thanks.

#

Hides some of the code if it's long, so maybe HassBot won't need to get angry ๐Ÿ˜„

dusky plank
#

i sense people posting pictures of code... base64 encoded

peak mountain
#

Yeah, I think it's a great addition overall. They kind of stole it from slack though...

#

Who cares, tbh? I'd be happy to move 100% of my chats to discord.

last dirge

lol

late gate

@deft pewter I looked at that philips you(?) linked to, but Im used to 3 monitors before the ultrawide. The ultrawide was horrible, but did see philips had a 43 inch model. Im kinda far away from the monitor since I use a "arm" on the monitor so I can put it close to the wall. If you had the philips is it much curve on it, and does it work well?

This is my first ultrawide.

last dirge

also my first ultrawide

not sure if 34" is ultrawide?

last dirge

that's stupid huge

mine's just further away from me than my arm's reach

I could deal with another 3-4" width TOPS

late gate

since I bought the macbook pro I need the one with kvm so I can use the same monitor on my gaming and programming rig

last dirge

anything past that is just overkill

deft pewter

I already think I'm turning my head a lot with this ๐Ÿ˜„

Even gave up using an additional monitor alongside it.

last dirge

I turn my head some

#

less than I did with separate monitors though

late gate
#

buy both and send back one :p

I had 3x 27"

last dirge

if you have a computer that plays well with USBC then the KVM is a hell of a lot easier to use

I think the macbook pro m1 does?

I bought a software to split the screen

and then you just switch your inputs
