5D Chess With Multiverse Time Travel - yes that is the actual name of the game. We're skipping past 3D chess and 4D chess for the ultimate big brained game. Move your pieces back in time to create a diverging parallel timeline, then move your pieces into that. What could possibly go wrong?

I've decided I'm going to keep it simple and stick with the trusty ggdG in every file I touch.
๐ too much is too much?
It's a lot to memorise at once. I only knew the really basic commands a couple of weeks ago. Trying to learn the more advanced stuff.
This week's practise will be text object motions.
I've played with Linux for 23 years, I only started learning vi four years ago
I'm starting to realise that it's way quicker to edit with vi shortcuts than without.
Being able to jump to and edit a block of code in a couple of keystrokes is amazing. I don't know why I ever used a mouse for that shit ๐
I should learn this
have to admit could pick up a few new tricks myself, too. Also i lack skills with the visual mode, i always just get out of it
Visual mode seems kinda meh. Text objects ftw.
Need to replace everything inside a pair of quotes? ci". Boom.
Delete everything inside parentheses? di(
I just need to get better with marks and registers... another day.
Atx's hourly rate $400,
Atx's actual rate if he took away the time Discording $20
๐ฅณ
I always have that turned on ๐
Oh lawd
I remember the first time I saw that
It must be 15 years ago, and I had five monitors

it is now 15 years later and you have 4 monitors
I just move my mouse all the way to the left until it appears somewhere I can see. No point going to the cursor when you can make the cursor come to you
yes you need it.
starting to.. need bigger screen and font..
I use size 12 in all my editors. Sometimes only 10 if it's something I won't be staring at all day.
110PPI on my main monitor, if that matters.
I can tell my eyesight isn't as good as when I was a kid but I'm still a long way off needing glasses.
When I was 40+ I had to buy pair of glasses
before 40 i used to desolder and solder back gfp112 with naked eye
now i have glasses and magnifying glass lamp
At the beginning of 2017 I was doing SMD soldering no probs. By the end of the year I needed glasses to read. The change happened very suddenly, like in a matter of months.
And I have never been able to do those magic eye 3D picture things. My optometrist reckons it's because I have a very slight vertical misalignment between my eyes. I reckon it is just a conspiracy. They don't really exist.
Weird. Usually that would mean you just generally have no depth perception...
I'm pretty sure I do. I mean I can easily tell how far away things are and my optometrist has never mentioned it being an issue.
I can't even cross my eyes
Because my eyesight is so terrible my bad eye just follows my good eye
I can do that trick where you put both index fingers horizontally in front of your eyes, go cross eyed and make a little floating double ended finger, but it's not easy.
I have some decent muscle control. Can move my eyes, eyebrows, and ears independently
My optometrists have called what I have adapted depth perception because I kinda understand how far away something is since I stopped walking into them
Important life skills ๐
Rolling your eyes in opposite directions tends to freak people out. lol
I can twitch my nose like a wabbit. Never got the ear movement thing. Not for lack of trying.
@clear ferry The above items are pretty far down on the list of things that make me a weirdo. lol
Haven't had to reboot the Pi running HomeAssistant since January, and that was for an OS update ๐
Nice pretty monitoring charts, what system is that ?
That's just HomeAssistant / Lovelace UI
Ha Ha, overthinking what you had there, never even saw those stats, will have a dig for them. Thx
Those sensors aren't on by default. Had to add a few things to configuration.yaml
Thx, will have a look in the docs for the right config ๐

Whats the appropriate channel to ask about snapshots?
It is definitely the first
hehe
Atx hates sd cards, raspberry pis and homeassistant os
Not necessarily in that order
Seems reasonable...
Throw in Cisco ACI too, and we'll have a good batch
so .. none of those are snapshots ... then why the hate? whats a better approach?
And proper industry standard backup routines
Yeah? So, how does the container approach get 'restored' ... just the yaml files wont cut it anymore these days, no?
The same way you restore any other files
They're just files, no magic
Your entire HA config is in the config folder, not just the YAML
I'm aware, but which files to back up and which files not to back up isn't exactly clear and straight-forward. I copied the ENTIRE config folder from the old over the new install and that caused lots of issues. I copied only the YAML files and several things did not work.
So ... yeah I'm sure it's possible
I've done it before, more than once
I have moved my config between.... A dozen different installs
I've done it once now ๐
If you miss the hidden files, that's the problem
If you copy the entire folder including hidden, it is all there
Thats what I did, and it choked. Maybe too much old crud in there, who knows.
Probably permissions, or something missed
Anyway it's running now with the "clean install - restore yaml - fish out the appropriate .storage files" approach
There is no appropriate files, all of them should be copied
If not your install was broken to begin with
not unlikely!
with the new 'cleaned up' install, my Pi runs at a load of 1.0
previously it was 0.2-0.3
dunno what happened there ๐
it seems odd though
but i've decided to give up on trying to figure it out
i have a new obsession
OpenBSD!
my Mac runs at crazy high loads (because my main machine is almost a decade old) ... its not the absolute load number that bugs me, but more the big difference from my previous install to the current
This is where you debug processes then, to figure out why
clean install + docker : 0.18
ha installed, no config loaded : 1.00
i blame HA ๐
supervised
So even worse
it's pretty much the same with container rob
yeah, i gave up after you mentioned that previously ๐

everybody seems to fuzz and buzz around coral, should i get one to join ya all coralers? ๐
my interpretation is that people buy underpowered raspis and then try to make them faster by gluing ssd's and corals into those but i might be miles away with these thoughts ๐คฃ
I got my m2 coral up yesterday
So far so good
And I'm not running it on some pi

i have evidence you are running pi...

I have a SP customer who invested heavily on hyperv (due to cost) but noone there knew hyperv, everyone had been running VMware up until that point
Pretty sure they still have barely any idea how it works
@lapis cipher I run coral on a NUC to offload it with frigate. I didnt find the original so ordered 2 extra. Since frigate can handle multiple tpus im thinking why not just run multiple. One tpu can handle around 100fps
And with cameras set to 5fps
That means 20 cameras per tpu
@last cedar let's do this
Leeeeeroy jeeeeenkins
@clear ferry anything that can be overdone should be overdone
I'm not objecting that
It is my job
Interesting that the DTS audio track on the Eagles - Hell Freezes Over DVD is still a lot better than most modern BD media audio
That 4GB video and audio, compared to chad 50GB BD
The mastering is amazing
Even @tidal bronze and @dull chasm would agree
how to install HA in win 10 via VM
Don't
why
It implies virtualbox, which is a shitty hypervisor
But also sounds like #330990055533576204 ๐คข
i dont have pi but i want to test a program
Yup, as mentioned in the channel topic, no support here
If you want a VM, see your chosen install method channel
i install the HA in VM
Right, so see your install method channel
but when i enter my proxy it didnt start
#330990055533576204 probably
Do you all think Github Actions will eat Azure Devops
The Gremlins certainly will
Any idea what happened here?
like to thank atxbyea for sending me off this 2 day long high dive off the mqtt discovery cliff
It's Debian
lol...but finally figured it out...the half first day i spent changing code endlessly before i realized HA wasn't seeing it and I have it correct all along
With hassio.... You are either running #330990055533576204 or #330944238910963714 if it's the latter you shouldn't @fallow karma
Ok, thanks for showing me the direction. I'll go there
that discovery is something i wanted from the start and was too lazy to learn....no i got that knowledge in the bank for all my future software
Nice, order Mar 18th, delivery today, go China! Some more smoke detectors, door sensors and crap, probably all from wrong manufacturer but should they not work you'll find me whining on #zigbee-archived - this gets rid off some custom esp glue, its problematic especially with the electricity delivery
Noticed its mostly been mentioned around cameras and especially Frigate. I have a slight fear my crappy computer(s) won't have the power to process either so i just might be a candidate for one, too.. Don't yet have frigate up and running, revamping "everything" so it remains on the todo list for now
@clear ferry I use vinyl so don't know how any of that sounds like. Only multi channel audio that I like is Tidal atmos tracks.
Then you should try out a classic
Did that mug require additional licensing to enable caffeine?
Found a pic from hpe website having atx and colleague configuring something
@clear ferry can you get me one of those HPE mugs? I am a sucker for merch
I can get you..... Some trash?
we once ordered a hp server, it came in 20 pieces "some assembly required", we never ordered any more from them..
Oh no, does that mean the mugs come with super glue?
atx is giving out mugs? I need a new mug.
Awesome, I'll take 4.
Gotta have matching sets for when you have guests round... some time in 2023.
So soon?
Here's hoping.
We were planning a big trip for 2023. I hope it can still go ahead.
Mother in-law's 70th and we were gonna do a family trip to Orlando.
Sounds like a plan!
If the Yanks get it under control by then. ๐
@lapis cipher because your seller sucks and ordered CTO and not BTO, I've had to build 50 servers in a site once..... Seller had to cover my hourly cost
@deft pewter @last cedar I'll check the office next time I'm there for you
Also my coral is doing its stuff
If they have any spare servers lying around unused, send them with the mugs.
i know, now.. we couldn't even think of that being an option for enterprise shit..
very happy with the dell, gave them quite a few millions over the time and rarely had to contact support
HPE is growing back in Finland
The last decade has been poor presence and few people
You should visit Lumi when it is online @lapis cipher
Kajaani it seems
i might be out of excuses to visit those as we are running down our own datacenters and co-locations quite heavily..
YES
Birb

Well... that was ridiculously simple... yaml services: ssh: image: hermsi/apline-sshd ... labels: traefik.enable: true traefik.tcp.services.ssh.loadbalancer.server.port: 22 traefik.tcp.routers.ssh.rule: HostSNI(`*`)
and now I get ssh and ssl muxed on the same port.
It just works. Traefik is absolute magic!
@low harness how you can decipher trafeik....
Presumably with the docs
ever since that 2.x... I gave up and ran back to nginx
It seems intuitive enough.
they might have fixed it.... it was horrible.... no way to default all sites to redirect to https etc
@clear ferry is this yours? Looks like it's from your era: https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/mfmoxj/sony_ki107/
Even has a replay tape button ๐

I finally ordered myself a 60% keyboard. ANSI layout though ๐คข
Hello. I am thinking of buying either an echo show or a google nest hub (i.e., some voice assistant with a screen). I have been using google mini for a while but would not mind switching to Amazon. For short, I want to use this in my kitchen to have control over home assistant. Which would you recommend ?
I'd recommend #hardware-archived (and reading channel topics)
There's no support in #the-water-cooler
ok thanks
Going for this one but will probably turn off most of the crappy RGB effects:
Hot swappable switches so I can play around in the future ๐ฅ
I have a full-size board now and it irritates me. Just takes up too much space.
I rarely use the F-keys and I don't need arrow keys or a num pad often. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
If I'm gaming, 60% is fine. If I'm developing, I should be learning vim anyway ๐
vim is easy. just hjkl
That's like... the least effective way to navigate ๐ค
Even as a newbie, I can get around faster than that.
yea, gj is pretty useful at times
Are you forgetting about /pattern or )/}/etc?
Even e and w are faster than h and l ๐
pattern requires to know what I'm searching for D:
And the ]] and similar require C-ish file structures IME
:q!
Yeah, I want to like ]] but I write in JS.

I saw there's a way to remap it that supposedly works but it wasn't cooperating.
Does it not? I thought blocks are delimited the same in js and it should
also, never forget '' it's one of the most important movements
C-style functions are usually something like:
{
// do some stuff
}```
Whereas JS is like this:
```function someFunction() {
// do some stuff
}```
It's the fact that the { isn't in the first column that prevents ]] style motions working.
Can still use text objects that involve curlies but it's not as convenient for pure navigation.
ahh. Yea, then parser that enables these kinda movements is pretty limited
This is what I tried (from the official docs) and didn't work for me:
and "]]" anyway, try these mappings:
:map [[ ?{<CR>w99[{
:map ][ /}<CR>b99]}
:map ]] j0[[%/{<CR>
:map [] k$][%?}<CR>```
I wonder if it'd be possible to hook into them with something like clangd
There's all kinds of plugins, I just haven't gotten that far. And I'm a little more limited than usual because I'm using a vim emulator in my IDE, not full vim.
I just use "%" for brace matching
vim-surround is nice. Already getting the hang of that for replacing pairs of characters around a phrase. Can do stuff like cs'" to replace the surrounding single quotes with double quotes.
it's funny, I couldn't remember what it was and had to start vi, write a function, and let my brain take over ๐
Yeah, that's fine to get to the matching one at the other end of a statement block but then you still need to get to the next function.
Not as bad as h/j/k/l everywhere ๐
I need to train myself to use marks, and not just ''.
atx sounds jealous ๐
I had the fortune of jumping on the train after 2.0 happened.
mono has those quotation marks figured out ๐
I find sslh since v1.20 somehow mightier than traefik
that's exactly what is happening at my company right now
"Of course. I can do anything. After all - I'm an Expert."
I'm sure you've all seen it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKorP55Aqvg
I'm the dog in every project a partner sells to the customer
wtf ๐
I'm tossing this in off-topic since it's more of a general process than a specific thing to HA... Anybody know of any appropriate guides to automate deployment of SSL certificates to multiple servers using a wildcard certificate? I'm reverse-proxying with nginx and the redirects are tossing up 502 errors...except in one where I manually installed the certificate I pulled with certbot.
you're not terminating SSL at the web server?
I think that's ultimately what I'm trying to do, but not succeeding.
Basically, I've got nginx running in a container handling the cert renewal and reverse proxy. I'd like to get all my other containers, VMs, and any future discreet hardware successfully running secure.
...is what you're saying to have it setup to have that secure connection terminate at the reverse proxy container, so I'm secure between it and wherever it's connecting to....and then everything from the reverse proxy to the internal service local network should be in the clear?
Gotcha. That's what the guides looked like I was supposed to be doing, but it just hasn't worked. 502 errors. Didn't work for anything until I manually copied that cert to the individual service.
then you're doing something wrong
Right.
I use cloudflare
Likewise!
they use a secondary cert to my caddy server
main SSL cert is certbot on cloudflare
caddy talks to whatever's behind it in the clear
I have everything going through their proxy, secured from remote client to their proxy server, then I'm trying to secure from my server to their proxy server. Currently running certbot as well to pull that certificate from Cloudflare.
Looks like the big difference is you've got Caddy and I'm using nginx.
not that big of a difference
I'm going to try out a different guide. The original one I followed was riddled with small errors. Just stuff like forgetting to mention that they switched directories, and slightly misnaming some items in the guide. Stuff that stood out in troubleshooting.
unlicensed hypercam
Nah, was a written guide.
you can just use self signed certs at the ends and have the ssl cert check disabled at nginx.
i think thats where your 502 originated from.
hmmm... Just setup some soil sensors. All my plants report: TEMPRATURE, VWC, EC, SALINITY & TDS I also have irrigation valves to each plants. The issue is I have no idea what setpoints to use. Anyone a plant expert? ๐ lol
Something something weight in stones :)
Wet
if (wet) { !water() }
nah too simple, going to setup a PID controller to regulate the watering of my pot plants ๐
@hushed basalt BTW I started doing an AWS course. I found its basically the same as all I do for my home lab but just replaced with Amazon <insert service name> replacing much more well known nomenclature.
Yeah, those boat memes are getting old.
...you finally tried to use that adapter, eh?
Eh, I'm using the a+e adapter right now
It is great
But I probably never will use the e-key one, with dual tpu
Just wondered if you wanted it ๐คฃ
Yeah, but only half of your card works ๐คฃ
As you are the only person I know who might have a slot for it
hmm i think i'v missed all the boat memes, i can only blame all of you
No, I ordered a single one too
That I am currently using
@lapis cipher blame mono, he is a sourpuss
Don't think I have any use for E-key cards, tbh
If you don't
Not in my desktop, anyway
Nobody does
Isn't E-Key usually for wifi cards?
Well, if you see a e-key to pcie and bifurcation, tell me ๐คฃ
I bough a WiFi adapter, but it didn't fit in that one
Annoyingly, most adapters only connect the first lane...
Partially because PCIe 2x is a new thing. The original standard only had 1x, 4x, 8x, and 16x slots
Stay classy Ubnt
https://twitter.com/superdealloc/status/1376626243865604100
That alone breaks half of the code of conduct ๐ ๐
@clear ferry Yeah, not seeing any good options to get access to both lanes on an E-Key slot. You'd be better off with two of the B+M key modules in a riser...
I'm guessing a motherboard with the port onboard is the best option
Apparently today will be the hottest day so far this year
20c
was supposed to be but seems like cloudy and forecast to only 8c.. :/
Going to get up to 23c for me today
So cold winter then @subtle pasture ?
Not looking forward to summer... we've had 48c days before
i like warm and even hot but too much is too much.. that's insane value
Humidity plays a big part as well
26 degrees but 80% humidity feels much worse than a dry 36 degrees
I've felt it "uncomfortably hot" when the temperature has been in the low 20s (C), and also been comfortable in the low 40s - humidity is the difference
Also poorly managed thermal mass.indoors
If it's 12 degrees outside but your walls are radiating 28 degrees into your bed at night it feels gross
Yeah, we used to live in a traditional UK house - brick all the way, and now live in a modern one (brick skin, lightweight interior). While there's times I miss the thermal mass, during summer I really don't ๐
The ideal for my climate is reverse brick veneer (RBV). Brick/block interior with lightweight reflective exterior
But no one does it. It's all double brick, double brick, double brick. You're lucky if the roof isn't clay/concrete
We make houses out of the coats of our enemies in viking land
Here modern roofs are "cold spaces" - the insulation is between the ceiling and the loft space, so the roof can get hot if it wants
I quite like metal bins, unless someone starts knocking
I thought you lived in a trashcan
Have you tried putting the skins of your enemies over a trash can
It echoes like heck
Then you could make it look like a hooman
All ceiling insulation here is done that way
Great idea
People would blow their minds if they saw insulation at the roof line
A lot of houses don't have any insulation at all
It's only been code for a little while to have ceiling insulation
I can only imagine as people move to wanting to affordably cool their houses that'll have to change
And it's poorly installed 9/10 times
Well there's a large amount of renters
So they have no say
It's only code for new builds too
If your rental was built before then, sucks to be you
My last electricity bill was over $700 for 2 months
I don't speak racxoon
The joke is that the Icelandic one at the end is lifted from a cartoon franchise I don't follow, as they haven't had a throne since viking times or whenever
The danish one was lego
Saw there was something off, but with the language barrier I usually don't ask Danish followup questions
Nobody understand or care about the Danish anyway
I love how every Danish person I've ever played online with appended DK to their nick, like I couldn't hear that already
At least they are upfront about it.
Maybe they need to be, by court order
Had a teacher at Uni who was Dutch and did a good English accent, except for the letter V.
Lots of talk of "Ferbs "rather than verbs
I do a crackling Dutch accent
And Danish
And German
And British
My American accent..... Just makes me sound incredibly feminine
Very good
There are only three people on this server that has heard me speak
They have lost all sanity points
My Australian accent often floats into a South African accent
Life floats
Is it some sort of documentary
Oslo peeps can register to potentially jump the vaccination queue
Thaz me right thaire!
Couldn't care less tbh, I'll get it when I get it, there are a lot more people who should get it before me, even though I'm a fat fuck with breathing issues and could be deemed essential worker based on customer mass
I'd be wrecked if I got the Covid
Although I've done zero research on the vaccines
What do they actually do
While I won't literally push an old lady with a walker to get a dose, I will show up for a last minute cancellation shot, which would have gone down the sink otherwise
They do sciencey things
Which is exactly what I did... Hey, so, you're coming in today anyway, and we've got a spare shot...
It's quite ludicrous not to have a version of this, provided we're actually serious about getting some coverage
@clever mortar thought you got it in the 85+ group already
I've got covid right now
They went around the nursing home earlier
On my quarantine until 4.4
They had to catch me first. Those motorised zimmers get up to a fair speed
Pfff, kid
How are you doing?
Surprisingly very well
Nois, glad to hear it
Classic
No higher temperature, no cough, no loss of taste and smell, just have little cold and hoarseness. And of course positive test result
But it's fine, now I can be lazy
I have a customer who had covid in march last year
Still has no taste or smell
He had a fever for 5 weeks
Yeah, you sound like you might have a "mild" case, but you should keep an eye on the aftereffects
Yeah , I hope there won't be any.
My wife feels worse than me, which is strange, because she works at the hospital lab, so she is fully vaccinated
Which vaccine?
Pfizer
Good
There have been quite a few deaths from the astra one so far, we have put it on hold
Only 4 cases I think in Norway, but still too much
Germany had 9 I heard
And how health service is doing in your countries?
Seems under control on the surface
Well, it moves in waves, and mostly in the capitol
I still only know one person with confirmed infection though
Still have cases in the media of people not getting something they need because of covid related concerns
I'm afraid here, in Poland is not so good. On the surface our government claims that has everything under control, but I don't think so.
The long term economic consequences will be interesting for all tourism dependant nations
Norway has thus far put most expenses on the company tab
Greece and Spain are welcome all vaccinated and recovered people. Sadly I'm not yet any of them, prices may be interesting
All my family works in essential sectors (health and education) and I have really only worked more from home , so we have had no change
My wife has been doing her master's from home from 5 years
No change for her either
We have used cameras on helmets to diagnose servers for years
Remotely like in Afghanistan etc
But you know.. spark plugs could be a challenge .
I made my 3d printer myself, now it's time for robotic arm. That's an idea for remote job
My dentist 3d printed my crown
Scanned with a 3d scanner
I'm designing a part for my neighbor for her AC soon
I've got 3D scanner too
I made few automotive stl's
Designed, I mean
Cougar wasn't made from 67?
Wiki claims it was.
๐
I like muscle cars, and American cars in general. Sadly never owned any
The cougar she is working on now isn't on that list
Lucky guy. I heard that in Scandinavia there's lots of classic cars from US
I have to visit my cousin in Helsingborg
When all those covid stuff will end
Someday
I want to go to Sweden as well
I haven't been there since 1986
I was there last year before everything
And you're from....?
It's our neighbour too, but we have to swim ๐
Let us know if you try, we'll bring towels
We go to Sweden almost every month during non covid
Baby food and diapers were ridiculously less expensive there
Like 1/3
Plus better pizza at the pizza places ๐
So you're saying Norway is a rip off
With sub-par pizza at most locations
I bet their coffee is crap too
I'm a fan of simple yet quality
I care about the end product not how exotic the technique is
Couldn't tell you. I have Peter Panitis, so I prefer soda pop
When I do drink coffee it's for utilitarian purposes so I just try to get whatever is closer to the "regular " coffee of my youth
In coffee parlance I believe that's an Americano
But I will do a double espresso shot on the autobahn if it's necessary for the cause
As long as it is black
I'm mostly happy
Unless it tastes like marshmallow cinnamon
You're never happy
I'm looking at you America
You're a grumpy server wrangler
Grumble grumble stupid clouds grumble grumble
If you're not burning 5MW at every site you're not a real enterprise grumble grumble
i avoid coffee shops since people make such orders it takes 5-10 min per cup and i would anyways order some simple americano
Does Finland have 'Espresso House '?
atx's neighbor is quite a collector, she also has those old synthetizers and dog knows what
Joo we have those
So hipster coffee for single moms then @hushed basalt
You're a hipster. You liked 100gbit before it was cool
Ironically
Yeah corporations and coffee will never result in quality
Considering top notch coffee needs fresh roasted just in time local beans, and enterprises like commodities they can warehouse and bulk
That alone means it'd never work
It's like buffallo mozzarella. It only works locally
didn't know you get mozzarella from buffalos, internet teaches so much
We usually buy buffalo mozzarella in Sweden, the price difference is 1-3NOK usually
I haven't been to the theater for.... 6 years, before that probably 3 years
Watched Outbreak yesterday (ancient virus movie), their solution was simple, drop a bomb to a city and the bug is gone
i only went for marvel premieres because spoilers are unavoidable sometimes lol
but everytime i go to theaters i think "imagine how it will look at home"
I've been downloading movies at home since 1998 since norwegian isps just tell Americans copyright holders to piss off
@tidal bronze can relate to that ๐
It's nice to leave the house once in a while
wife doesn't like sounds being at max so theater is only option ๐ No idea thou when i went last time
that's exactly the kind of a movie that is at its best at the theater
avatar, pirates, etc.
Is all stuff in Finland dubbed?
none dubbed
Just curious since 80% of the people I've met from Finland are horrible at English
๐คฃ
Like Germans, everything dubbed I assumed
well, some animations are with optional finnish for kids but no, we don't do that kind of stupid stuff here
Last movie I saw in theatres was https://no.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Et_glass_til
Et glass til (dansk: Druk oversatt til norsk = fyll) er en dansk film fra 2020 regissert av Thomas Vinterberg etter et manus skrevet av Vinterberg og Tobias Lindholm. Filmens sjeffotograf var norske Sturla Brandth Grรธvlen. Hovedrollene ble spilt av Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Bo Larsen, Magnus Millang og Lars Ranthe. Maria Bonnevie spilte en av birol...
pronouncing might be bad and rally english but in general the level of english skills is very high
i work in a company with probably 50+ nationalities so i've had my share of different skills and pronouncings..
its commonly used in finnish also, kreisi
nowadays english is being taught from 3rd grade onwards, 4th has already optional language (spanish in our case)
Not Finnish but still a good video: https://youtu.be/1KPwj2v1sco
no more "force-swedish" like before (well, its our second official language still)
Vaasaaaaaaa
No matter what you have at home I still think Dolby theater experience is worth a visit. Unfortunately very few get released in those.
for first viewing sure, but nothing beats being at home being able to pause and rewind as needed lol
I agree.
Although no theater comes close to having bass shakers in the seats/couch ๐
You haven't heard my English
Slav one ๐
When I was young , there wasn't English in school. Russian . And later German. But my parents bought me some lessons, therefore barely I can write something in English, and not afraid to speak, even if I do not speak well
Well, I am from more German part of Poland ๐
I've tried learning some polish, gin dobre is mostly my limit
Good one!
I can ask for direction in German and russian when I get lost. Or buy alcohol in those languages
In Spanish I only can buy a beer
Fun day at work today... We've been planning on swapping ISPs for a while now, but one of our engineers YOLOed the process last night without informing me
So all kinds of shit broke ๐
YOLOed ?
Nice - YOLO so why not screw stuff up !!
It's our, polish national motto ๐
Do you have short life expectancy ๐
Look at the error bars on the Polish priests. Yikes...
Polish YOLO is translated as "somehow it'll gonna be" , and it has a wide range of uses.
๐
Segway to introduce this movie about a Polish priest, of sorts: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corpus_Christi_(2019_film)
Corpus Christi (Polish: Boลผe Ciaลo) is a 2019 drama film directed by Jan Komasa and written by Mateusz Pacewicz. It premiered at 2019 Venice Film Festival Venice Days section. It was also shown in the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival. At Venice Days, the film won the Europa Cinemas Label Award and...
Haven't seen yet
It's good
But apparently it's good
I liked it a lot
There are good Polish films? ๐ค
I love Segways.
Though having dabbled with Christianity in my teens, I might have been suceptible to the message of a priest being able to heal a local community ravaged by tragedy
thought auto-correct was sailing me up the river with that one, but sometimes you just have to press enter to get messages off to the masses ๐
Did it autocorrect you to 'segue'? If so, autocorrect was trying to help you out for a change ๐
I remember a polish film from the 90s about a boy who stole his mother's meatloaf and fucked it inside the wall, maybe it wasn't polish, but it was Slavic
๐ค
It aired on the Norwegian alternative channel
Polaลski is Polish director, but not sure if I should be proud of him, or not
Probably not...
But "Carnage" was good movie.
No separating of art from the artist. got it!
Have you ever heard an English person say 'Polaลski' properly? ๐
No.
The first town I visited in Poland was Szczecin. That was fun to learn when I had no previous knowledge of Polski.
Now it seems obvious ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Also spent some time in Dลบwirzyno. That's easy to say too ๐
Grzegorz Brzฤczyszczykiewicz, Chrzฤ szczyลผewoszyce powiat ลฤkoลody
Watch this!
It's whole true about polish names
Meh. That's also an easy surname ๐
I think some of the combinations confuse English speakers because they don't exist in English. The 'grz' in Grzegorz is a good example.
Did you watch to the end ๐คช
Yeah... that Chrza... I can't do that word in one go ๐
Lekolody is okay though ๐
ลฤkoลoty
I also spent time in ลรณdลบ ๐ No English person can say that.
I don't have a Polish keyboard, sorry ๐ copy/pasting the correct spelling from the internet for the town names.
Yeah, but the same could be said about most Welsh place names ๐
Welsh isn't even a real language. It was created to troll people.
There's probably more people that speak Esperanto than Welsh ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Me: Are you in the office by chance? Can you try physically disconnecting the second WAN link to see if the issues resolve?
Them: I'm remote. I but I can try that by disabling the interface.
Me: I wanted someone there physically to prevent the possibility of a remote lock-out.
Them: Oh, that can't happen. I have VPN access and direct remote access allowed from my IP.
Me: Uh... it's still pretty easy to lock yourself out. You're making changes to our ISP configuration...
Them: It'll be fine.
Update: They have now locked themselves out...
What could go wrong screwing with network settings remotely. Dumbasses ๐
I fuckin' told him...
He disabled the WAN interface on our firewall for one ISP, and now he can't bring up management on the remaining ISP
There was also this gem:
Them: Disabling the interface does essentially the same thing as disconnecting the cable.
Assuming Watchguard's software is perfect, sure...
Test secondary comms channel first ๐
All it takes is one bug in, say, how WAN failover works... if it still sees that link as "up" (because it's still physically connected to a live upstream device) then it might fuck up. Unplugging the cable always works >_>
The way that rocket looks in the image BONK is deff the right word ๐คฃ
Nice job. Its second on my dream jobs list. Right after Boston Dynamics
it really depend where you work in such company, because not everyone touch the rocket...
Doing IT there is nice because they is money ... but other than that... they are old company with old management ...
maybe Virgin and Origin are nicer to work at because they are less old
The only thing that reminder me that we made cool stuff that go to space is when we saw HUGE ring getting deliverd XD
We never know how they drove it here without pushing building and red light
checked spacex jobs some time back, there were positions for even dishers listed, you'd still be almost shooting rockets up
yes, science fact
we get enhanced tracking for some delivery services (your package is x stops away, truck is here), and it just leads to more annoyance when the guy stops for lunch ๐
just look away and the package will arive
Slightly more serious question, since I don't usually deal with DHL. Is the DHL ECOMMERCE DISTRIBUTION CENTER one of the last places it'll be handled before it's actually put on a plane/boat/camel to reach my country?
I put on my sad face every time my package arrives with anything other than our national post service
Ah, I just ordered pipe flaring and bending tools from AliExpress
Probably going to buy a used heat pump for the bedroom and do the install myself
u so cheap atx
and that's another thing you can't do here without a license due to gases used on those. Thought nothing prevents doing the piping and then getting somebody to fill it up
I doubt you could do any of it here
You might be able to mount the holder for the remote control on the wall
i can pull all the electricity to my house and connect everything, i just need somebody to check them and put their name into papers and its all fine. And we are pretty restricted on these things but i also don't see any problem with this approach
for the 'zzh!' zigbee stick, why would i want the "debug adapter kit" ... something about JTAG ... do i need this?
seems like a question for #zigbee-archived
Aight, Synology just released some cool kit... https://www.amazon.com/Synology-Ethernet-Adapter-E10M20-T1-RJ-45/dp/B089RHK7CF
PCIe 3.0 8x card with a PLX chip, Aquantia 10gbps NIC, and dual M.2 (NVMe) slots
And it's not vendor-locked to Synology NASs, it'll work in a desktop PC ๐
mentioned hass during an interview today
interviewers were like "that sounds awesome, I'm going to install that"
@subtle pasture that seems way expensive
Not particularly
doesn't show a price for me D:
It's a $250 card
The NIC alone is $110 of that, and the PLX chip needed to make the whole thing work is the rest
There's a version without the NIC for $170, if you're just after more NVMe slots https://www.amazon.com/Synology-M-2-Adapter-Card-M2D20/dp/B089RHBVVG/
you have 10G ethernet?
Walls are wired for it. Waiting for switches to be affordable.
Also, the NIC on that card supports multi-gig (2.5g, 5g, and 10g)
How long are the runs?
maybe 40 feet
That'll probably carry 10g just fine
That's only 12 meters
CAT6a is required for 10gbps over long runs (up to 100 meters), but 5e will still get you pretty far
how many megapickles can I transfer on that?
I just want affordable switches with a single 10GBit port, so I can put that on the link between floors, and GBit is fine for single devices currently
Ideally I'd like two 10g ports for redundancy
This is how is escalates ๐คฃ
On different switches? Otherwise Iโm unsure how likely it is for a single link to fail, without the other failing
I guess If you drive a nail through it
i've had to use Slack for something recently ... have a strong preference for Discord!!
Slack is visually way more cluttered
But threads!
That's how it's currently used, sure. Doesn't mean it has to be that way. The recent changes suggest they want to encourage casual users to join too.
Fundamentally, it's not really that different from Discord. You can manage membership of 'servers', and then limit access to individual channels. You can DM from anywhere (a little too freely now, but that's another issue).
What changes
To me, the biggest distinction is that Slack has a mature ecosystem of plugins/integrations.
I think they're fundamentally created as different tools
They screwed up. Allowed people to get in touch via email (which for most of us is pretty public) and send a customised request. People were using it to harass others.
Like a tractor and a car are similar, but built for different purposes
They both have 4 wheels, an engine, cabin, steering wheel, etc
They had different origins, sure. Discord came about through gaming but the creators are happy to have a wider audience. Slack came about through business, but again they're happy to have a wider audience.
They're really not that different ๐คทโโ๏ธ
If Discord had message threads and integrations with Jira/GitHub/etc, they'd basically be the same thing with a different skin.
Aha. Not a native integration but it's possible with some third party magic ๐ https://zapier.com/apps/discord/integrations/jira
Pcie adapter was $10 or so on AliExpress
This is where I bought it from
oh, thanks, need to check again, i am way too regular visitor on aliexpress nowadays ๐
You need a pcie adapter with a-e key for that board
then again kid goes to riding, that's like 30 eur each time so i can also put money to my hobbies AT LEAST the same amount ๐
The one I ordered is no longer available
i don't have any fancy machines around, might need to purchase something more fresh, i'm like the graveyard of anything free.. servers i've sold out long ago, too large, too noisy, too power-demanding for my needs
My old itx box with j4105 and 12GB ram is currently running half of my containers
And octoprint
And some more stuff
Including the frigate with coral
i've got two shuttle's here i need to power up and see what they've eaten, i remember one being at least rather slow.. Maybe need to recycle some old laptop thought i'd like some tiny nuc or such. It would be all easy if i wasn't so cheap-ass
Hmm my Plex container has started getting hangs lately, need to figure that out
i've really cleaned up all the shit, i've got some really beefy rack servers but due to lack of need at the time it only made sense to sell those forward
My r510 suffices fine for me for more years to come, with everything being dockerized
Also, you've got a PM fool
But why wouldn't someone just use slack
Why would they try to turn discord into slack
and next thing one notices is having to use them all..
kinda happened with whatsapp, people moved forward to random services so everybody had to install them all..
"i only use now signal" "hey i'm using telegram"."..."
I now use all of the things
this place has too many channels ๐
yeah, i think this channel is enough ๐
there is no way to send TTS to an app, right?
i3/16GB NUC here btw, only reason it will get upgraded is usb3
What do you need usb3 for?
big external drive for nextcloud and backups
12TB on usb2 will take a while
it doesn't have to be a single drive, you can get enclosures with 2
for backups a single drive is fine
and I am also pushing backups to a secondary machine
err pulling rather
also, I am using this as the backup box for my NAS
running borg in a vm, pulling snapshots on an external drive
Deduping actually
borg is great
I haven worked with dedup for... 10 years
I have yet to see it used at home
But I might need to try borg
it's not something you think of specifically, you just tell borg to add something to its repo, it just happens to be efficient
a bit like you don't think parity bits, it just happens..
really great for backups to the cloud, because it dedupes and chunks everything up
then encrypts the chunks
so you can upload only what changed
to any cloud, without worrying for security
(rclone ftw too)
The biggest concerns for me have been the sheer number of vendors offering their own dedup algorithms, with no certainty that you can undupe it in the future
well borg manages its own repository, I don't think there is any effort to make it generic
borg is ๐
it is open source, so you can keep on running one version forever
(theoretically)
so, sending TTS to an app -- not possible, right?
what's the cheapest way to get multi-room TTS?
Google Home Mini?
I was happy with chromecast audio because it didn't have a mic
Unfortunately I've been burnt by synology so self managing is the only way for home in my opinion
I don't want Google microphones all over the house :\
Google would never betray your trust
"don't be evil"
Oh wait they removed that from their values
"Don't get caught" is the new one I think
The Home Mini has a switch that disconnects the mic ๐
right
But, #hardware-archived can probably provide you with a bunch of DIY suggestions
it would have been great to be able to use any phone as a speaker for TTS
easy to get old broken iphones
or even better, sending TTS to the web app
hmm, that might be an idea
Android you can do TTS with for sure
ooh this
