I created two buckets for each site. A 'maintenance' bucket and an actual site. I think I can have both tied to a single Cloudfront distribution, and change the 'Behavior' to point at the alternate bucket.

I think you just point your DNS records at your distributions. You could update your DNS records to switch too... the DNS records propagate pretty quickly unless you've given them silly TTL's.

In our case, there are multiple drain points. Depending on which one you use, you just have to unblock it.
Some of them you can hook them to the food disposal unit, some you can drain straight forward to the drain line...etc
