clear ferry

Is ytmnd still a thing? I haven't been there in 20 years

last dirge
#

it crashed not long ago

but I think they were able to restore it

slate marsh
#

So i heard a colleague pronounce yml as y.m.l. (three letters) yesterday to me it has always been a word along the lines of yam-el. Which of us is wrong

wet pilot
#

Yam-el

#

As the full name is yaml

static schooner
#

since it has an "A", I'm going with the yam-el

#

yml is some "I only have 8.3 characters" BS

#

and 1990 wants it back

slate marsh
#

Phew I'm glad. The well it's XML and HTML argument does make sense but yeah yaml was my reasoning

trim fox
#

Anyone else having HA not to start after launching 0.117 update?

wet pilot
#

Those are abbreviations so it's a bit different

static schooner
#

initialisms, right? And they all are

slate marsh
#

YAML is recursive along the lines of GNU though, but GNU is also pronounced as a word. Wish we could just agree. If the GIF guy every says it's G-I-F I riot

static schooner
#

yes, it's recursive

#

although I've also heard "Yet Another Markup Language", which I think is actually not what it is at all

slate marsh
#

Well that's kinda the opposite of "YAML Ain't Markup Language"

static schooner
#

right

#

in any case, both have "A"s, so case closed πŸ™‚

slate marsh
#

Yeah was a nice diversion from iOS stuff

red sequoia
#

Hello since I dont know where to ask this: I am trying to set up my secrets.yaml and got to the point where my system tells me I need to set a dburl and now I am confused... As I understand it the dburl links to the secrets.yaml doesnt it? Sadly I cant finde if I have to define that for every single one or just once and where to put it in my config.yaml... If someone could enlighten me

static schooner
#

dburl: is part of the recorder: integration

red sequoia
#

i will switch to integrations but I dont quite get what recorder has to do with the secrets.yaml setup

Can I share a referral link anywhere here on discord?

deft pewter

Why would you want to share a referral link here unsolicited?

#

It's not a place to advertise things for your own gains.

storm niche

This is why im asking. There is a referral program on aliexpress where users can help each other with one click to win smart things. I try to get a Yi cam right now.

peak cloud

Thanks. I am mostly feeling okay. Sunday and Monday I think were the worst. Since Sunday afternoon I've covered all "common" symptoms except for vomiting and diarrhea. Now it's mostly just congestion, body aches (my lower back is killing me), and fatigue. Lost smell/taste two days ago.

something to put on your resume, "extensive knowledge of the term "that sucks" background history"

@peak cloud have a customer who got covid.... 5 months ago, still has no smell or taste

Ed is like the original editor. ed begat em which begat en which begat ex (as in "ex-commands" in vim) which begat vi which begat vim.

Which is why some of the original commands still work, and why the original vi would still work in single line mode (haven't tested it with vim)

These behaviours come in handy when you're on slow/shitty links and need to rescue things

low harness

It probably works with vim but not neovim

Well, yes

forest edge

we use to get some change back for recycling, not anymore lol

deft pewter

And we pay a fee when we buy boxes and cans that we get back when we return them
@clear ferry So that's what the random Kr things are on all my beer cans?

dull chasm
#

@rare condor np ....the chat should not be biased on any view nor should it a place to preach that you are better (excuse atx and norway thats a whole diff topic) but also should respect a view ....person A should not preach person B should not argue ....niether really happened ....

clear ferry
#

We pay USD0.21 or USD0.31 per bottle or can we buy, that we get back when we recycle, incentive

#

@deft pewter yes

deft pewter

So basically it's just more expensive beer if you don't bother to recycle? I like that idea.

#

On a side note... I'm going to start saving my empties and bring them with me if I ever visit Norway.

rare condor
#

All good we know atx is just trying to make up for the fact norway is too cold and dark

forest edge
#

@clear ferry you just pay more that they keep if you decide to throw it in a ditch.. gotcha

clear ferry

Yeah, very few cans and bottles are thrown away, so we don't have that problem

last plaza
clear ferry

I think the last I read we recycle 97% of all cans and bottles

forest edge

@last plaza that was just from this morning

clear ferry

If someone throws it away someone else picks it up and recycles it

#

Incentive

#

If just some other third world countries would do that

#

Like in Ireland, everything went into one bin, glass, metal, food, bottles, matrasses, dogs

forest edge
#

our country has too many aholes for that, so instead we get "programs" where groups of nice people go out and pick up our aholes trash once in awhile

last plaza

Groups of nice people - you mean convicts and inmates?

forest edge

not all of them are that lol

maybe where Vasiley is they still do the horse and shotgun watching convicts on the side of the road lol

dull chasm
#

i just thought of something ...our country is pushing this income for those that dont have .....like 2k a month .....they can do "community service" to earn it .... build roads .....pick up trash ....etc etc ...... win win right

#

@forest edge we do

forest edge

Don't ask to ask, just ask your question. Then people can answer when they're around.

When you do ask a question, try to provide as much background detail as possible. Ask yourself these questions first so that others don't have to:

  1. What version of the Home Assistant are you running? (remember, last isn't a version)
  2. What exactly are you trying to do that won't work?
  3. Is the problem uniform or erratic?
  4. What's the exact error message?
  5. When did it arise?
  6. What exactly don't you "get"?
  7. Can you share sample code, ideally with line errors where the error occurs?

subtle pasture
#

@odd kindle What's the SSD for?

odd kindle
#

@clear ferry oh. That would make it a lot easier

subtle pasture

Yeah, ESXi is an embedded OS, so it usually runs from an SD card or USB flash drive

odd kindle
#

@subtle pasture well, I figured esxi needed something.

clear ferry

It lives in memory after boot

subtle pasture
#

Or, in larger clusters, it's network-booted

#

Compute nodes need not have any storage at all

clear ferry

I've never seen a pxe booting esxi irl, and I've seen clusters up to 200 nodes

odd kindle
#

Where’s config kept? On usb/sd?

subtle pasture
#

For virtual machine storage: Find a compatible NVMe SSD

#

SATA SSDs will choke with more than a couple virtual machines, because they have to service all I/O through a single disk queue

clear ferry
#

EEeh, it will work for any normal home user

spark orchid
#

I have a suppression system in my printer cabinet after my first Ender actually caught fire

subtle pasture
#

Mine is entirely custom, so...

low harness
#

The heck is that? Where’s the last third of your delta?

subtle pasture
#

Like, all the Marlin safety settings are enabled, so it shouldn't go up in flames (it'll stop the print if thermal runaway is detected)

#

@low harness It's a Deltesian

low harness
#

All the speed of a cartesian and the calibration simplicity of a delta packed in one?

spark orchid
#

My fire was started by a failure inside the PS, no Marlin settings were watching for that

subtle pasture
#

Also the computational simplicity of a certesian, since the bed is cartesian, and the arms are planer

#

So 8-bit controllers can run it without choking

peak cloud
subtle pasture
#

I mean, feel free to run a 32bit board, but 8-bit is fine with this printer. lol

spark orchid
#

but that is the suppressor I have

peak cloud
#

Interesting. I’ve never seen those before.

subtle pasture
#

@low harness A lot of people use this kind of setup with a belt bed for continuous printing

#

Which basically gives you a delta-style printer with infinite Y-axis size

low harness
#

Looks really cool. But isn’t it really easy to get a cup along x from just small inaccuracies?

subtle pasture
#

A cup?

low harness
#

Like how deltas easily get a bowl shaped printing plane.

subtle pasture
#

Ah, yeah, that can happen if your frame isn't square

#

because then the maths required near the bottom to generate a straight line won't be the same as the maths required at the top

low harness
#

But knowing marlin it probably compensates for that automatically anyway...

spark orchid
#

These are fantastic, too, but spendy

peak cloud
#

@subtle pasture How do you like the Capricorn bowden tube? I've had it on my Amazon wishlist forever, but haven't pulled the plug yet. I run a cheapo Ender 3.

spark orchid
#

I am on an Ender3, too

#

I used capricorn tubing before going to dd

peak cloud
#

The Ender 3 is surprisingly an amazing little printer. It prints on quality with a Prusa.

subtle pasture
#

It was a good upgrade, for sure. If you're having issues with stringing / retraction, it'll help

#

And it's one of the easiest print quality upgrades for an Ender3

spark orchid
#

I still have about 1-1/2" of tubing, so technically, I am still using capricorn tubing, and it works fabulously

#

And it's one of the easiest print quality upgrades for an Ender3
@subtle pasture That and changing the bowden connectors

subtle pasture
#

True, true

#

There's a reason I have that 3D printed pressure fitting on my extruder, rather than the collet+clip thing it came with

#

Over time, the original fitting would wear down the tubing, allowing it to move in/out on retraction, which is exactly what you don't want

spark orchid
#

I made some compression fittings (intended for plumbing uses) work for a long time

subtle pasture
#

No such issues with the pressure fitting, which clamps onto a full inch of tubing

spark orchid
#

I assume my reference is similar to what you printed

subtle pasture
#

Conical thread + nut arrangement

#

I got tired of the orange, so I re-printed it in black πŸ˜›

spark orchid
#

similar enough

#

Same principal, something gets crushed into the tubing as it is tightened, preventing movement

#

I can't find the thing on thingiverse, but for the stock hot end, I had a type a printed washer to keep the bowden tube seated in the heatbreak even if the tubing moved a little from bad fittings

peak cloud
#

I had never considered upgrading the fitting. Should I do that before I even install the Capricorn, or should I install the Capricorn and then print the pressure fitting?

last plaza
#

Capricorn PTFE tubing kit comes with the fitting. At least it did for me.

peak cloud
#

The only ones I can find on Amazon have the press-lock fittings.

last plaza

subtle pasture

@peak cloud First round of parts was printed on a Delta Go. It has since re-printed itself at least once

spark orchid

Dang, I just watched my own video... cannot believe how loud that thing was before upgrading the board

peak cloud

subtle pasture

It's highly abrasive stuff

spark orchid
#

My next project is a drone, actually. I am migrating the entire flight system from an old drone into a custom body

subtle pasture
#

Thankfully, my e3d v6 came with a hardened steel nozzle πŸ˜›

spark orchid
#

"wood" filament is nozzle death, too

peak cloud
#

eSUN PLA+ is by far my favorite filament thus far. It was also the one I tried first. It doesn't suffer from a lot of the same problems that PLA has.

last plaza
#

Wait until you try TPU and Nylon. 🀣

peak cloud
#

Doubt I'll ever be able to get them dialed in to print properly on a bowden setup.

spark orchid
#

TPU is impossible until he gets his capricorn tubing

subtle pasture
#

PLA+ is nice for durability, but it's not as stiff as regular PLA

last plaza
#

@clear ferry has a great way of expressing how it feels like. lol

clear ferry
#

Eh, some of the stuff I ordered from AliExpress has been a lot better than any local filament I get

subtle pasture
#

The arms on my printer are printed in regular old PLA, because both PLA+ and ABS were too flexy

clear ferry
#

@last plaza like printing with a limp cock you say

peak cloud
#

Leapo -- have you ever tried eSUN PLA+? I've heard all PLA+ are different.

spark orchid
#

I printed TPU a ton with bowden. I switched to dd because the kids wanted so many toys and key chains that it just made sense

last plaza
#

Micro center sells PLa+.

peak cloud
#

Microcenter's PLA+ is eSUN rebranded.

subtle pasture
#

@peak cloud I've printed TPU on my bowden setup, but it absolutely required the bondtech extruder

spark orchid
#

I really need a second printer because the weight of the extruder slinging about shows up when I try to print fast

clear ferry
#

Need to try to go DD @spark orchid saw I could print a mount for my stock extruder on the ender 3

peak cloud
#

I'm still on the stock extruder and hotend.

subtle pasture
#

Yeah, the original extruder will have TPU buckle and start coming out the side rather than going into the tube

clear ferry
#

I've printed fine with regular extruder and hotend tpu

peak cloud
#

A friend of mine has an Ender3 and the first thing he did was convert it to DD, using just some 3D printed parts I believe.

last plaza
#

In about 6 months of non-stop use, you would end up replacing pretty much everything.

clear ferry
#

When I changed to the all metal extruder upgrade no more tpu for me

spark orchid
#

Yeah, the original extruder will have TPU buckle and start coming out the side rather than going into the tube
@subtle pasture drill out the hole on the tubing side of the extruder and pass the tubing through right up to the gear

subtle pasture
#

@spark orchid THat can help, but I prefer the double-hobbed-gear design in the BMG

spark orchid
#

as do i

#

just playing poor man's advocate

subtle pasture
#

It grabs TPU from both sides and constrains the filament path nicely

Note: Do not insert any 3D printed objects into your body, they're highly porous and will quickly become bacterial breeding grounds

spark orchid
#

She said from experience?

subtle pasture
#

Print, sand/finish, make a mold, cast in body-safe silicone, THEN have your fun.

#

@spark orchid No, but it comes up in 3D printing circles rather often

#

Because, honestly, it is a great medium for prototyping such things

last plaza
#

If you are going make a mold, you might as well make hundreds and sell them.

subtle pasture
#

But you can't just use what comes off the print bed...

spark orchid
#

I know lol. I think that's why TPU was put on a spool

subtle pasture
#

@last plaza Also true

last plaza
#

Not worth making mold for just one print 😝

#

There is a business opportunity for you @forest edge

subtle pasture
#

3D printed TPU is still porous...

#

Also, layer lines @_@

spark orchid
#

layer lines, for his/her pleasure

last plaza

Yeah, I need to get better at printing TPU.

clear ferry

subtle pasture

@odd kindle That's why I just run the trial license, which has all features enabled and no limitations πŸ˜‚

#

You just have to reset it every 180 days (the official way of doing this is a reinstall of ESXi, but google will lead you automated solutions)

#

I wonder if VMWare finally fixed ESXi v7 so you can't subvert the licensing model with a bash script and a cron job...

odd kindle

@subtle pasture ok. Good to know. For now I'll just go with the free version. If I can manage to get it 😐

Oh, and Veeam B&R (which now also has a free version) works with Hyper-V free, but not ESXi free

@clear ferry Not my fault Microsoft has the best feature profile in their free version, lol

I click the button I see, I do not enter my personal information.

subtle pasture
#

You can even do Hyper-V clusters with the free version, which requires a full vSphere license and vCenter server on ESXi...

#

My only real complaint with Hyper-V is that it's not an embedded OS, so you can't just run it from a SD card like you can with ESXi

#

So prepare to have some real storage with some level of redundancy for the OS
