also which one is most easily manageable from ha ui?
sorry to sound stupid again, container, supervies or core take less resources or are they all similar?
All much the same
Not sure which install you're using? If you have system_health enabled you can check Configuration -> Info, or see the following.
-
If you're using HassOS, flashed an image, or booted a VM with an image you're using #330990055533576204
-
If you installed Linux and then ran a script to install HA and have add-ons then you have #330944238910963714
-
If you're running
dockercommands or use a Docker manager and have no add-ons then you have #449717345808547842 -
Finally, if you use
pipto install or upgrade you have #551864459891703809
Having difficulty chosing an install method? See this blog post for guidance.
See the blog for what they all are
also can supervised be managed with systemd?
also sorry, one last question; do you personally prefer core or supervised?
Supervised is the method that requires the most skill and experience
Only use it if you're at home managing Docker and Linux
Or move to #449717345808547842 ๐
Container requires less skill than Core
OS requires less than Container
So a couple (but not all) of my lights just turned off and the logbook says "turned off by Hass.io" Huh?
Serious question because the WAF is not great atm.
wife approval factor
(Which I do not have.)
So, somebody used Google/Alexa to turn them off
You mean there's... no support here? ๐ฎ
k, which channel should i annoy with this then?
I'd try #cloud-archived since it's the cloud service
You mean there's... no support here? ๐ฎ
@deft pewter Soon they will tell me no politics , religion or any other obviously contentious topics
what a world XD
Someone should put something in the topic so people don't keep making the same mistake.
That scene is a perfect example of why I never fasten the top button of my shirts.
But where am i suposed to talk about my love for ... (what's a controversial topic ...) Systemd !?
as always thanks for the help
do yall tuck in your HDDs before going to bed?
I dunno. I don't think I've seen a more divisive choice than vi vs nano...
emacs you mean
Tuck them in? I don't even mount them to the chassis.
Nobody takes nano seriously ๐
someone asked me nicely to add emacs to all our server at work...
i did it with a lot of despaire
he told me that the shortcut of emacs made him delete stuff on vi by accident
can we talk about why we're not using yaml anymore and instead use the UI flow? someone had this idea yesterday here, I would like to keep this topic alive. pls? ๐
i ... didn't get it
"Hass.io" is the user #add-ons-archived and the supervisor uses @clever mortar "Home Assistant Cloud" is the #cloud-archived user
Oh, interesting
can we talk about why we're not using yaml anymore and instead use the UI flow? someone had this idea yesterday here, I would like to keep this topic alive. pls? ๐
@dusky plank you mean lovelace-ui.yaml right?
Let's not go there again, mstone ๐
That really helps clear up the continued use of Hass.io for the Cloud service @light trout ๐
We don't want to upset petro
To be faire the ui is getting very good, i juste hope they where a way to store automation/script in the ui in folder ... because (with my lack of organisation) it's quickly a mess XD
I think that's only used for the google app (since google would not allow the use of Home Assistant)
The UI is getting amazing. I haven't been paying attention for a few versions and I stumbled upon the hints that
> Templates gives now re which states a template will observe (and even when a template might not trigger).
I'm happy to only use YAML for automations now. The UI is awesome for pretty much everything else.
lets go back in time #the-water-cooler message
it's sad, but the ui (post lovelace) was the main raison i went from Jeedom to Home assistant...
i discover long list of integration way later
so then what do we have left? discussions about which hypervisor is best?
If it's not VirtualBox, I'm not touching it.
the real question is: where is the puke guy? ๐คข

I hope he has Internet access and lots of terabytes ram wherever he is

@fiery sorrel just use an electric skillet for the reflow.

@subtle pasture just watched a review on that rock pi x. thing is a turd lol
does anybody have a Raspberry Pi Display as a Dashboard which is able to auto dimm? through MQTT?
You should try #hardware-archived
So which one of these channels would be best to ask about room assistant? I have questions about the best way to calibrate RSSI levels for each one of my Raspberry Pi Zeros.
If in doubt, start in #general-archived. There's no support in here.
Or over here: https://discord.gg/KbqABn
@static schooner That's golden, thank you!
How long can the preparing home assistant take on a rpi1?
forever
Until it's done
Thats great
But see the channel topic ๐
You likely want to be asking over in #330990055533576204
rp1 and ha ...not a good mix
Ah right, thanks
Yeah, Pi1 - some hours
Finally - home network question. Just bought a house, 3000 square feet but lots of rooms. Most rooms wired with cat6, and I have symmetric fiber line plus TONS of smart home devices. I need a new network system; my netgear switch doesnt have enough ethernet ports, and the crappy wifi network can't handle the load. Recs for a home network? Would like Unifi, but reaally want something that is "future proof enough" e.g. i can addd wifi 6 access points later.
Yeah i had a spare rpi so i wanted to give it a shot before buying a new one
unifi all the way ...
To be honest, any managed switches and APs will do
Unifi is one choice, but there's a lot of options
I want Unifi, but I have no idea whatsoever what components to buy. I hear dream machine etc etc but want to make sure what I'm buying could theoretically support wifi 6 access points when those become a "thing"
@clever mortar what do you use?
A mix of stuff, no Unifi ๐
wire and string
Various Zyxel smart switches, a handful of dumb switches, and some Asus ZenWifi units for WiFi
You could do a lot worse than a Mikrotik switch, cheaper than Unifi and every bit as capable
I need it to be partially brainless though, I'm finding I only have so much time to tinker these days ๐ฆ With all the smart home stuff, I think the networking I'm going to have to have working out-of-the-box
unifi is easy ...
Yeah, if you want "one UI to rule them all" go Unifi
want to kill some brain cells ...mikrotek ...
lol
Pfft, command line is easy ๐
Sounds like Unifi it is. But then... which Unifi devices? Is there a good guide
they call port forwarding ....nat someshit ...
๐คท
I've been port forwarding since the days of Linux having two completely separate things you had to set up identically to make it work
is that with skirt or without
Either way, whichever makes you grin ๐
@wanton bobcat depends on what you need. How big is your space? How many clients? Etc
and how much yaml
๐คฃ
well i have close to 100 with 2500 sqft ....pro 4 with 3 ap's
two nanohds with one lr
50ish wifi
Yep, lots of "it depends"
well my network is pretty diverse .....2 vlans ...20ish iot devices 3 mobile ....11 cameras and unifi runs it perfectly
with a main and guest network
~120 wifi IoT devices connected to 3x Unifi AP lites seems to still be working without issue for me. All my cameras are hardwired.
damn go ahead
When is unifi going to come out with sitewide minimum RSSI ๐ค
That's the only thing that's missing for me. Wish iPhone kept pace with Android. One iPhone in the house creating all kinds of headaches. ๐ฉ
well apple ....isnt that a cali thing
I do apologize for that
its ok we still love "you" and will let you move here when you wake up
@wet pilot - eight rooms/separate spaces (technically a 5/3 house though, upstairs and downtairs), 3000 square feet total. Hard-wired I need 12 ethernet ports, and on wifi I will have 50-60 devices in total. Lots of z-wave (ring alarm, hue bulbs, smart locks) devicecs as well, if that influences anything.
You should be fine with unifi
12 ports... 12 ports is nothing
haha and I thought I was all that!
I've got three 8 port managed switches, and a 24 port one, plus the dumb switches ๐
One day I'll get proper network cabling done and I can just get a proper central one
@clever mortar what type of walls ?
@wanton bobcat you will be fine ....my pro is updating so cpu is high but
That's beautiful. What hardware in the Unifi line are you usinhg?
I'm sold on Unifi, to be clear.
unifi
Plasterboard/drywall @tidal bronze - so it's relatively simple
Just need to pay somebody to do all the nasty work ๐
Other than rummaging around in the loft, with all the insulation
Blow in?
@clever mortar wear pants and not skirt and it will be ok
Unfortunately the upstairs and downstairs walls don't perfectly align, so there's going to be some "finessing" required
Also, I'm at the point in life where I can just pay somebody to do that, and drop in neutral wires for light switches. I don't need to do it myself any more ๐
Doing it is a lot more fun though
You can invent new swear words when you drop your cutters in the insulation
Been there, done that
I don't do it myself either but everything goes on here I design and plan. Although nothing to do anymore ๐
I will be running a full wired alarm and door entry system in our house. Gonna be fun
Option ons on the unifi 48 port PoE switch? Want to replace all my unmanaged switches.
Which one Tom?
Non edgeswitch? Pro or normal?
I think most people complain about them being picky about sfp+ transceivers, probably noisy too (common theme with poe stuff)
This one: https://store.ui.com/collections/unifi-network-routing-switching/products/unifiswitch-48-500w
Some hate their way of beta testing astuff in the wild
I have no need for the sfp ports
Yeah I have crashed my wifi network by updating the unifi ap firmware
It's simple and integrated with what I have are the main reasons I'm thinking this. I do have an edge router and can barely configure it.
Should be good then!
Thanks for telling me what I wanted to hear ๐
Let others chime in

Yes
Unifi is popular, not perfect
Both true.
Smashing that upvote button there
It has a bunch of issues, including with Apple devices
For about the last 3 or 4 years they've had those issues
Unifi needs a little TLC the first few weeks if it's large network
Of the 48 ports I'll be patching about 2/3rds (32) with little expansion left to do. PoE cameras, AV gear, room outlets etc... flat network.
Oh and WAPs.

Anyone seen a wall adapter/mount for new nest speakers ? Too lazy to design a print.
they don't have the little camera screw thing on the bottom?
Nada
welp they are trash, better luck next time
They sound good so ๐
they too new for the aftermarket crap to hit the market
evven then you know the first crap to come out will suck lol
Yep. Guess I will have to draw something up. ๐ฉ
why not just get a small floating shelf?
Wife's a minimalist so can't add jack
uh whats the diffrence lol
they make small square floating shelfs, be only slightly longer than the damn speaker
look better than some 3d printed hoist too lol
See that's the problem nothing on walls. Gotta go on wall outlet
well they do make a plug in outlet shelf.. it's one of those as seen on tv things
not sure it's big enough tho, was made to hold like your cell phone etc
These things are heavy. Will have to go on with decora plate screws.
the shelf does use the screws of the outlet
one whole piece that replaces the outlet cover
Nice. Link ?
Oh one made by Sanus
https://www.amazon.com/socket-shelf/s?k=socket+shelf diffrent ones on amazon
the official (original) is called Socket Shelf
yea, they show the little nest pucks or whateer on them so they gotta be atleast big enough for that
if i do ever make it to cali i am so going hang crap on your walls lol
"this looks like a good place for my jacket, fetch me a nail!"

take her to an art gallery, break her fear of clutter!
There's like 6 or 7 paintings that's about it. I kinda like it. Anyways I am not into decorating stuff. She can flip the house up side down as long as she doesn't count the damn speakers. ๐คฃ
well see, you could inset the speakers and just put little holes to allow the sound through.. the wall would look completely empty from the side
These are for odds and ends like guest rooms/baths. We never even go in there but she makes a fuss if anything is added. Easier to keep the peace with outlet shelf. ๐
wait, you put crap in rooms you don't go in?
lol
you probably got some intercom thing setup too, not sleeping at your place.. don't need any random voice in the dark asking me if I'm sleeping ok
Yep got intercoms lmao
Don't need an intercom for that. Just tiptoe into the guest room and whisper into their ears.
Buy a megaphone
If your voice isn't loud enough to be heard in all corners of the house, you're not yelling right
you really think bruce wayne could be heard on the other side of the mansion?
That's no longer a mere house ๐
neither is quads lol
Also, didn't he have a butler... surely you send the butler to do the yelling
Every house needs a butler
Actually
I draw the line at a robot vacuum cleaner
I subscribe to the "if I can't wipe my own ass, please kill me"
I would go mad with a butler
oh dear lord the hallmark movie crap is starting back up
Greetings all, so I am trying to connect a USB SSD drive to my Pi 4 with 4 Gig of RAM, has anyone done this before? I got it working with a 32 Gig USB drive but then I put the SSD Drive in it is just hitting the hard drive but not not responding to ping. Has anyone been through this process and had a good link to possible steps? I am not sure what I am doing wrong
I am doing this so I can then put Home Assistant on it
i canโt see anyone asking for support.
nah, donโt see any questions here.

Waiting for the AMD cards. thinking an AMD CPU/GPU combo is going to be pretty insane.
the 5950x at 799 is insane.
The 3950x currently is $899 usd here
@forest edge It's basically just an Up Board with better pricing, and better configuration options for RAM / eMMC / built-in BT/Wifi, I'd expect it to perform about the same.
Just watched ETA Prime's review of it. He seemed pretty positive about the whole thing.
He ran a full install of Windows 10 and put it through its paces (YouTube, WebGL, Plex 4k video playback)
And it's a fully HDCP compliant system, so no issues playing back protected content
Lack of HDCP compliance bit me when I tried to use a RockPro64 (ARM RockChip RK3399 SoC) as an Android TV box. It refused to play any content from Netflix, Amazon, etc because of the lack of HDCP.
The Intel Atom CPU on the Rock Pi X also has hardware AES-NI, which the Pi lacks (so using it as a VPN server will be significantly more performant). You could actually run PFSense / FreeNAS on the RockPi X, which is pretty wild.
hah, he even got it playing Half Life 2. That's really not bad for what it is

I am expecting the 5600X to cost around double what the 3600 costs today
Which kinda sucks, but it is good business
Actually. Costs 50% more give or take. So not as bad as I thought
It is 3700X money. And I don't need the threads
@hollow glacier how so?
Hi all, if you were recommending a very simple home automation / smart home system for someone who wouldn't be able to use HA, what would you suggest? I need something for someone who has relatively limited tech skills...
Thanks!
no personal experience but maybe smartthings? pretty basic and simple as you can get. @uneven pawn
I think a lot of HA users fall in that category ๐
Yeah I was looking into that and wink
@static schooner i certainly do! If it weren't for this discord, I would have failed out of HA a long time ago.
It took a lot of time to understand many of the most basic concepts here.
Maybe just have more behind the scene automations? So no user interaction
Not sure exactly what you mean but a lot of stuff can be acomplished with sensors and no interaction from the user, but ther person who is yamling it needs to be imaginative
Depends too on the platforms/goals. A lot can be done with UI based integrations and #node-red-archived - at least until the Pi's SD card dies ๐
then you just give it mouth to mouth

I'm doing the sensible thing and refreshing the page only once every second to limit impact. Still no joy.
nothing that matters anyways
I know we should all expect it but I still can't believe how shitty people are with DMCA takedowns.
That code isn't illegal. Code is just knowledge. They should just ask that the owner doesn't share compiled copies.
They used some not so legal materials in the tests for it if I'm not mistaken
well to be fair they used copyright material explicit in their how-toโs so that was a bit shady but everything else ๐คทโโ๏ธ
It's a tricky field. They did things that were breaking laws with the code
Sure, people may have used the code in ways that RIAA or whoever doesn't like. Doesn't make the code illegal.
Fix the issues, don't take a sledgehammer to a nut.
I agree, but since when are lawyers known to be reasonable?
It's essentially censorship at that point. 'I don't like what that code says' is pretty much the same as 'I don't like what that book says'... and book burning wouldn't go down well.
there will always pop up 10 alternatives if something technical on the internet is taken down, just have a look at silkroad
Yeah. I'm glad there will always be alternatives.
It's also far more tricky, since some rulings have shown that publishing torrent files are illegal. The act of making it possible to break the law by downloading/sharing the content is in itself illegal
The UK courts had fun trying to block access to TPB a few years back. All it did was encourage the site owners to come up with automated mirrors each time one was blocked.
I'm not saying I agree with those rulings, just that they exist
If by publishing torrent files, you mean sharing copyrighted materials... yes, that should be illegal.
And github have to follow it
If you were just sharing the code for a hypothetical torrent client, there's no crime.
@deft pewter I refer to TPB for example. They only hold the information about how to break copyright laws
but that in itself is against the law
Hell, torrents themselves aren't criminal. It's only the sharing of copyrighted material that is in many places.
no, that's the point I'm making
In the UK, for example, downloading copyrighted materials is technically okay. You're only breaking the law when you share.
it's somewhat illegal to have a torrent site (I forget the name for it)
facebook used to use torrents for deploying all over the world in minimum time
as was shown in the TPB verdict
I really doubt it's illegal. If it is, it's another sledgehammer, tbh.
Obviously different laws apply in different countries tho
The problem is that a site owner for something like TPB would be expected to manage the torrents and remote any copyrighted stuff, which they don't.
Dell uses it for driver packs
@deft pewter the founders of TPB got jail time
Any number of large businesses use it to legitimately share files.
@deft pewter the founders of TPB got jail time
@odd kindle I'm not oblivious to these things. I know what went down. But it's not as simple as 'torrents bad'.
Torrents themselves are an amazing technology and have legitimate uses.
They got jail time because they hadn't shown a willingness to remove copyrighted material from their site
So, in a sense making it possible to download copyrighted material have been ruled illegal.
You don't see other legal businesses being issued court orders and handed out jail time, do you? It's because they have the right to distribute whatever it is they're distributing.
Much in the same way as youtube-dl makes it possible to download copyrighted material.
I'm not saying I think this is ok
They didn't 'make it possible'. They maintained a directory of links to copyrighted material.
It's absolutley fucked up, BUT it's whats been argued in sweden
uTorrent haven't been taken to court. They make it possible.
thereโs even a GIT over torrents now
This all comes back to my initial point that the code/tech isn't the problem. It's the way that some people use it.
Censor the code and you're just preventing sharing of knowledge.
I'm absolutely behind you on that
encryption helps terrorists, now shut up and back to work, slave

Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. @clear ferry completely doable
that's what she said

i liked Theatre of Tragedy though
Old school gothic metal is nice
they turned into techno goth at some point
which wasn't for me
also none of this modern "music" bullshit that spews out of radios these days ๐คข
I have standards
I distinctly remember you saying you listen to grime.
Ah, McGregor. A man of culture.
You mean
auch
oh no, he is irish
not a proper scotsman as I thought he was
I've never heard him talk, just punch
He punches a lot. Including random people and objects in the street.
I feel that
If meth were more common over here, I'd swear he was a methhead.
He might be a decent fighter but he's an absolute prick in real life.
Does it exist any alternative to the raspikey https://thepihut.com/products/raspikey-plug-and-play-emmc-module-for-raspberry-pi that is cheaper? type plug and play emmc to sdcard
https://ameridroid.com/products/emmc-adapter internet say yes
but would I not have to put an emmc on that one, so the price goes up?
yes?
21usd for that plus card vs 22 for the original. hmm. do I need more than 16gb for deconz
just a thing to avoid sdcard failure on a sentral hub
Use a VPN, for me it's 3.95$
You are using a PRi as the central, so ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Maybe change that first, before looking at workarounds for that platform
yes, but plus this https://ameridroid.com/products/emmc-5-1-module-blank?variant=7427627089954
or am I wrong?
whats wrong with a pi as a central? my ha server is a nuc, but cant have that too central, plus would like to run deconz directly to avoid the addon mess
for anything other than a a single use, pi usually have issues
for me it is for single use. zigbee hub
eh, I run my pi on a UPS now, with a industrial SD card, just for running zigbee2mqtt
I'll be fine for the next five years according to @clever mortar ๐คฃ
you never know hehe
I think the module is cheaper than having an ups in the living room :p
Margin of error is only about 20 days ||on Venus||
living room servers ๐คข
not server
but I have 3 floor house
and want to put the dongles on lvl2
thats living room
cellar is a bit bad cause of concrete walls
I put mine in the upstairs recreational room, it covers every part of my house
and outside my house
and is hidden behind a bookcase
I just have the living room, but a pi in white case is acceptable :p
or, you kow, make that thing read only? depends on your use but works for me in 2 pis
awww yeah, read my sd card like a good little pi
one has a defect card by now, can't write anymore. runs fine booting read only since a year ๐ poor little bugger doesn't even have a proper psu
I got a hat, but im not sure why make it more complicated if it works just as fine with a emmc
@clear ferry I got ton of 18650s. If I can make the ups for pi, that would be awesome.
I want to be able to charge and use it as a power source if needed.
yes I bought a UPS hat for my pi
haven't had time to install it yet
Smarter Shopping, Better Living! Aliexpress.com
Similar to this one
haven't had time to install it yet
got dozen of those hats lol
and batteries
never used them
typical browse at 4am and hey good to have
guess i'll be waiting alittle longer before going down the usb boot path
Imagine running on proper hardware ๐ค
supervised intensifies
๐คข
your idea of proper predates the dinosaurs
ok let me get your thoughts; another home automation competitor selling a PRO version made last year of their hub with 1GB ram and a DUAL core A9 ARM cpu for over 400 bucks. Do anyone agree that thats a rip off to sell something that cant even be compared to a pi in hardware at that price and those low specs? People say oh you cant compare those specs and a pi
yeah, but seriously put an A9 in a Pro unit for 400?
I guess you know what device im talking about
here in norway that device has made so much traction and everyone loves it, and everytime I say its so underpowered nobody listens
Homey?
yeah
Had a friend ask me about home automation, gave him a full recipe for HA, then he bought a homey
But he is also a technical idiot, although he thinks himself very technically adept
I tried homey
for what its worth its nice looking, got the sensors, got really good automation
He bought the pro one which was $500 at the time
but no ethernet (yay wifi and zigbee)
and you have to put in pause in automations for the cpu to catch up
it just have zigbee 1 though and dont really route, so all devices needs to be close to the homey
๐คข ๐คข ๐คข ๐คข
and lets not talk about zwave. you need to use an extension cord and hold it 10cm from the device for it to pair
Gr8 product
yeah and 500 bucks
and you are not allowed to backup it
not even migrate to new
if it crash its all from scratch
๐คข
but no local backup or export
So extortion
it could be a good product though
high WAF
but for 500 bucks I expect zb3, proper zwave, intel i3 or higher cpu and LOCAL BACKUP
my WAF is if a light doesnt work its hell
She also knows more code then I do
404 waifu not found
then if something is interessting oh then its high demands from the WAF
like cant you make a schedule for this and that where I can change the schedule visually
im still in the naughty corner cause I have not put up the outside cameras
and I say its cold, its raining and im not going to drag cat6 cables in the rain to the garage, make electric and be misrable for those cameras
I have to terminate all ones here. the previous owner didnt do it properly
this is the first time I have ran anything else other than HA and any other sdcard than the original on my RPI4 and all just to update the eeprom lol
i'm going to dump the other card back in it after this and everything will take a crap lmao
Morning fellas. Im doing a research project in college on cloud computering and im doing a section on iot products being locked into a cloud env. Just wondering was there a product that the company went out of business or changed ownership resulting in the devices completly useless?
@shut raptor Wink is one i think
theres another one called like Revolv or something
it was mentioned on reddit
but that was only if you didnt use their subscription right?
no i think they closed down didnt they?
Multiple thermostat companies over the years
plantlink
we had an entire channel dedicated to the migration from wink lol
are they completely gone now?
no they are subscription only now
in all honesty i would say even that would qualify as part of your project
users who bought into something that then get a dead device if they dont fork up money monthly
same thing in reality
not sure if IFTTT would qualify there
I just couldnt think if there was a company that completly shutdown leaving the device fit for the trash
oh sweet okay thanks
you can probably search by "another one bites the dust" ๐
@shy comet how you been btw. Staying indoors? lol
yup staying indoor, aint seen anyone lol
true that i hear ya
been good, pretty busy adding stuff to the official android app ๐
Yeah thats great dude, its really coming along
yea gotta keep busy ๐
yeah im hella busy, but having fun
@shut raptor ๐
Oh hey dude
i got on the hass train a while back ๐
whew! all booted back up and running lol
@forest edge what did you mess up? ๐
@shy comet was upgrading the eeprom on the rpi lol
my 128 sdcard has been showing some signs of wear lately so was afraid swapping it it around would cause me a headache but thankfully it didn't
oh lol
Oh, my fav raw meat eater!
How goes it?
Also, Intel 320 SSD 40GB should cover boot duties for TrueNAS, Peoxmox, Opnsense etc right?
Assuming the nand is healthy
have you been dumpster diving again?
Perhaps
My colleague has 6 of them. I said I would give him 500 sek for them and he was happy
google image results for 'sek' look appropriate
everyone and their mother has decided to call today while I decided to work on my rpi lol
have you tried not answering
I special ordered a fridge for my mother back in june through samsung and every month lowes calls me to tell me that samsung told them they are pushing it back a month, just got pushed to end of Nov now lol damn thing will be paid off before it ever reaches the states
don't think layaway is even a thing anymore
heh
there are definitely people who are targetted for layaway still
tbh i've heard way too much negative stuff about samsung fridge/washer/dryer/dishwasher that i wouldn't touch them
shitty control boards that cant be serviced, techs showing up late, not knowing what they're doing, not having parts
etc etc etc etc
@dusky plank it is the Swedish currency!
tbh i've heard way too much negative stuff about samsung fridge/washer/dryer/dishwasher that i wouldn't touch them
@hollow glacier they ALL have their cons. the trick is to not get evvery bell and whistle
@last cedar boot duties for truenas should suffice with 2x usb in mirror, but I run 2xsas
Bosch stuff has been invcredibly solid and reliable for me
Have a zeolith dishwasher and a washing machine. Washer is at least 8 years old.
Not very connected or advanced, but they just run
Aye, sold my Bosch washer and dryer after 11 years
Nothing wrong with it, just needed bigger for baby stuff
Bosch washer / dryer / dishwasher here, no complaints
โค๏ธ my Bosch dishwasher, will probably go for a Bosch washer and dryer when we need to replace them, same for fridge and stove
old house had a bosch oven and dishwasher that we sold with the place, got a new bosch dishwasher at the new place, but went with a GE oven because we got a great deal on a high end used one. Have regreted not just spenging more and getting a new bosch oven, the GE sucks.
So Bosch is king ๐
curently have a samsung fridge, it's fine except the plastic holding the door shelves on chipped and the shelve things routinely pop off if you (or a toddler) close the doors too fast
will replace it with a bosch when I get frustrated enough or have spare cash lol
I replaced my Bosch washer dryer with Samsung ones, the washer was doa so I got s free upgrade to a Siemens one that has been rock solid
The dryer is quite good, but already had two warranty repairs on it in two years
i wouldnt call two repairs that early on quite good
and DOA washer.. damn that's some bad luck
or bad products :x
Well, five year default warranty
meh
Anything fixed for free, after three fixes of the same problem within five years, new product or full refund
Which is how I also just replaced my 4.5 year old HDDs with new ones ๐คฃ
Even got an upgrade from 4tb to 6tb
i have a bosch dishwasher. thing is amazeballs
the GE stove i have is pretty damn good though
lol my rpi4 and hdd are both held on the wall by corkboard tacks lol
this one is like a $3k GE Cafe stove, but even on non-convection it's got a fan that's louder than my Bosch dishwasher lol
the oven temp is inconsistent, and the second oven drawer is borderline useless =\
one burner is consistently not as hot as others
but it's also an electric glasstop, which kind of inherantly sucks, even the bosch one I had before
hello !
For those who were there, you were right ! i did broke the new harddrive without fixing the old one ... YET !
I am not giving up
Not sure if this belongs in a more specific channel... but I canโt for the life of me figure out how to edit/remove the little circles at the top of my dashboard. Am I just overlooking something in the app or is there something specific I need to do? I havenโt been able to find any conclusion so far through searching but I may just not have the right search term...
those are called badge, look intor the pen shape icone next to the page name
also #frontend-archived
Ok. That was it. And noted. Thanks!
Been looking forever and knew I was just probably not looking in the right place.
you can also install ublock origine, right click, block element ... ๐
hey ! i'm sure it work @dusky plank
โน๏ธ โน๏ธโโ๏ธ
there is also the black tape on the screen ... i mean
but I canโt for the life of me figure out how to edit/remove the little circles at the top of my dashboard.

if i had an issue with tasmota, and noone awake that can help me at this time on there discord (purely hypothetical ;) ) what would be the best chan ? device ? integrations ? none just get out of here :P ?
oki thank
random question; is there a way to differentiate between an action within HASS (turning a light on) and physically hitting a switch? ie I want an automation to turn off all lights when I hit the off button in my office. However sometimes I use HASS to turn off the light and it ends up turning all lights off on me
Any advice to buy a good access point capable 300mbs? Isp has upgraded from 100 to 300mbs, my lan is gigabit, but have old 100mbs access points
I'm partial to Aruba IAPs myself. They can be had pretty cheap on ebay, and they'll do Wireless AC
Some of them are, what are good AP? A friend has all new with unifi, but has bad speeds
I recently got some ZenWiFi AC units, and I easily exceed 300 Mb/s from my laptop
Asus!?
Oof, Aruba stuff is up in price right now. The WAP I bought for $180 a few months ago is $965 now
My main priority are wifi cameras connected to AP
Good Evening all
Will asus rt-ac5300 be good as AP?
i have one in a box ....had to reboot weekly and anything over 50 clients brings it to its knees ...but it does have good range
I have deco e4 now, i thinks it is struggling, because cpu load is 99
that would be a good hint ๐
I'd vote the ruckus stuff on ebay as the best bang for the buck.
What stuff that is fast avalible in eu? Asus, unifi, linksys, tplink?
And what is best for wireless ip cameras
One is selling thes Asus RT-AC5300 for 100โฌ
One that works whithin your budget and expectations
heh
@light trout those are usually at odds with each other
Yup :/
What router, ap do you all use?
i want a shiny red car from Maranello ....expectations are good ...budget not so much
all unifi for me
pfsense/ruckus
lame
lol
so i had to get a shiny new red truck from detriot
vasiley: lame
nope
I use PFSense for a router, wireless whatever I can get my hands on at the time. Right now I'm using an RT-AC5300 with ddwrt on it, but i'm probably going to switch once i can buy a new AP
That truck needs a unifi logo
Gotta have atleast 400 to make that thing move at the speed limit
Yuge vehicle y'all
nah i can haul the little smart cars ...tow 12k and do the speed limit
@wind pelican so not good router?
PFSense is good
@dull chasm looking for unifi long range ap
Pfsense is stable but stale
You're right: it's stable.
I'm not looking to break my network everytime i want to mess with something
needs to be white
I'll put in another vote for pfSense
new Borat movie's pretty hilarious
@last dirge it was pretty good lol, some parts were a lil tough to watch but other parts were simply amazing
I used to wonder how they got people to believe it but recently...
the cabin part was amazing lol
"people can't be this dumb"
cant believe they pulled that off
I'm just a little over halfway
oh ok
yea i remember hearing about something like that
lol
a lot of this is filmed in/around Atlanta
the shit they get people to say and do
I wanna hang with these jewish ladies
lol the law suit ones?
the ones at the synagogue
after you watch the movie catch up on teh current afairs about it so i dont spoil it lol

Back on router talk, check out opnsense
Similar to pfsense, IMO UI is better. Major con is smaller user base, less likely to get help. You might love it.
Been running at home for over a year with no issues
In fact closer to 18 months
Think I rebooted it once or twice in that time.it just chugs along
๐ฆ
it's snowing ๐จ๏ธ
You were conned

Laughs in blistering summer
It was summer yesterday
now it's spring
tomorrow it'll probably be summer again
Your silly euro seasons mean nothing to us
Now I'm going to eat a waffle and go to the dentist to replace one of my crowns
๐คฃ
Have you tried not being a Norwegian
Finally someone else used that
will be a good winter, less tourists, more slope for me
Finally someone else used that
@clear ferry who would use that? there's only two of you on the entire internet lol
why th does my windows laptop wake my linux tablet regularly? this is so annoying
to ask it why the chicken crossed the road obviously
don't cross the road if you can't get out of the kitchen
Temporary crown in place, permanent one tomorrow, stuff is fast when using 3d scanners and printing
We live in The Future.

the universal aspect of snapshots is just awesome
noticed the rpi runs slightly cooler on external drive as well
just a few degrees on average but still
Reminds me, I need to set up some rest sensors for every spinning rust drive I have in my freenas box to see trends
why
because I enjoy data
@clear ferry you should probably seek professional help with that problem
Data is the new dollar
What you ll pay me to host my nextcloud on your PC?
@forest edge you setup a RPi with an SSD?
ssd? no it's an old hdd out of my dell inspire netbook
is it faster then a sd-card?
anything will be faster and more reliable than a SD card
or do you notice a performance increase? is more what i wanted to ask
not a big increase, but yea
the sdcard reader on the rpi4 is a mass improvement over the earlier pi's so they weren't slow lol
yep. i was running rpi3b+ and now rpi4-4g with a quick sd-card and the performance increased alot.
noice, looks like I'll be doing training on 200Gbps and NVMe now
that'll be fun
80Gbps storage transfer speeds
and 10PB per 42U
you certainly would be the last person i would want to get lost in the wilderness with
Psh, I know how to shoot a shotgun and I know how to make a fire in the wild, you'll be fine
anyway we have 99% mobile coverage in norway, just call for an airlift
they won't even charge you a heinous amount to be rescued
turn around and you'll be trying to sales pitch some bear on HPE
noice, looks like I'll be doing training on 200Gbps and NVMe now
@clear ferry yikes
what do you need these speeds for actually?
so DCs it is
Well, anything else is no fun
Well PODs are pretty cool too
when you need a quick temp DC, or just put a DC on the roof of your office
google says pods = Portable On Demand Storage
They appear to have changed name within the last year to MDC
Decrease time to value from years to weeks with a pre-configured Hewlett Packard Enterprise modular data center (MDC) designed for rapid deployment.
Pretty cool when you need to truck in a secondary datacenter for migration
or into a war zone
or just put it on the top of the office because your basement DCs are full
just airdrop a DC... classic
Can do that too
I just connected HA with conbee, exposing only the devices that I want and setting the specific entities_id with customize and the lights group names with emulated hue
This is awesome
The lights works the same as they did with Alexa but I am way happier
Now I can throw the philips hue bridge. One device less, less clutter
it's been so quiet an nice for weeks now, and suddenly my calendar is full until the middle of november now ๐คฃ
Exactly
I think I still have 42 vacation days left
Need to check if I have any comp time avaliable, need to get rid of that soon
this time you can go directly to @scenic radish and you two can cough in sync
uff.. I should chack that too.. almost burned my fingers where I last touched the disks
that... is interesting
I've never had a disk be that hot, and I've installed and replaced probably somewhere between 50-80.000 drives in the last 10 years ๐คฃ
I had a PSU that burned me, but the fan was stopped and it was still delivering power for some reason
@clear ferry and what you gonna do with this information? pipe it into grafana and make a fancy chart that you can scroll through to see if your drink coasters run warmer or cooler during diffrent parts of the day?
or create automations that give me notifications when a trend is going upwards x for y time
or make it trigger a blower fan with a kazoo duct tape to the end
we have reached thermal max! ๐
noice, looks like we are going to deploy a 200k core funtime in australia too @hushed basalt
I'm looking for a RFID reader that can read this card with an ESP32 and ESPHome. I tried a RDM6300, however it would not read it. Any help would be much appreciated.
What is "in" the card?
Protocol wise
Does the reader read other cards?
@trail forge
@last cedar i did not have an other types of cards to try with the RDM6300, here is all i can find so far on the cards
#diy-archived would be the right place
but the RDM6300 is 125KHz reader. that should be working well for your card. (when it is a 125KHz one)
PN532 for example can only read 13.56MHz cards
wow, the raspbberypi org servers are amazingly slow ๐ torrents ftw
Illegal!
Did they revert to direct downloads? I don't really pay much attention to the traffic, I only care that it downloads.
I mean, ISPs at the time certainly tried to say that, but the protocol itself is perfectly legal, and plenty of services today use it
Yeah, it's legit. I'm all for it.
Someone yesterday was trying to say how anyone that facilitates torrents is breaking the law.
Blizzard's download client is still based on bittorrent tech
I installed a 740 node HPC cluster with bittorrent in 2007, if memory serves right it took 35 minutes
Which was awzm
@deft pewter That's some weird propaganda to be spreading
By that logic, any use of any protocol is breaking the law, because they can all be used maliciously by malicious actors
I think they just misunderstand the law. They were claiming that TPB is illegal because it uses torrents. They missed the point that it's illegal because it willingly encourages the sharing of copyrighted materials.
TPB is still an interesting legal gray area, because they literally host nothing
It all stemmed from a discussion about the DMCA takedown of that YouTube ripper tool. The code isn't illegal, the usage of the tool might be.
They don't even host .torrent files, they just have magnet links to everything
Yeah, doesn't stop people chasing TPB though.
I love how TPB has become a hydra now ๐
Oh, you want to ban a host? Here's 12 more.
e'yup, it's an impossible game of whack-a-mole
They experimented with host TPB on bittorrent, at one point
Distributed hosting
Anyone accessing the site would also participate in the swarm that keeps the site alive, making it skynet levels of impossible to take down
I don't think they ever figured out how to handle dynamic content with that model, though
Hey @GitHub. Remember that security bug where anyone can attach commits to repos they don't control? That bug you said you wont fix?
It was used to attach the "youtube-dl" source code to your own DMCA repo. Have fun @DMCA.
You two deserve each other.
