halogen of course
I just took it out of the box and left them both on the shelf
People would do it in front of me
Couldn't be bothered trying to find a staff member
Fair enough, Woot for stock loss , no bonus this year again 😁
So bs like how tf was I supposed to limit that from happening
I mean I saw people steal in front of me I just over customer serviced them, but if they were bold they wouldn't care
Nor would I, not worth it over increased westfarmers profits 🙄 to put myself in confrontation or risk
Not even slightly worth it
you can put your weed in it
At the Out of Africa store, a hippie employee (Rob Schneider) explains to customers that items for sale are meant to be used to hide marijuana. The hippie loses his cool when a police officer (Charles Barkley) walks into the store. [Season 19, 1993]

That’s quite the stand of organizers.
The marijuana thing is funny timing as I’m watching border patrol and they found $100k worth of marajuana hidden in tables.

in my order history, arduino, arduino headers, sonoff 4 channel relay, soldering tips, jumper wires, usb extender, zigbee button, zigbee motion sesnors, zigbee module, zigbee module flasher, usb to sdd, rasp pi, and fucking brown cheese
home assistant is taking over. I need to slow down so I have stuff left to do
I don't want to start buying different color cheeses
As I’m building out a spreadsheet of wants I’m learning I can’t afford this hobby lol
I have other wyze sensors on the way that are super cheap
Well, this hobby and woodworking both cost a ton of money.
Woodturning is super fun!
No garage gang rise up
Super pumped to be moving to a house with a 2.5 car garage.
I wouldn't do woodwork unless you're willing to invest in serious dust extraction setups upfront
Sawdust is no joke
Yup, I wear my rz-mask almost all the time. I picked up a Rockler dust extractor this winter but haven’t set it up yet.
@hushed basalt I’m also super nervous about losing a finger so I bought a saw stop.
@hushed basalt love the organisation! 👌
Which organisation?
I think he was talking about the containers in the racks from earlier tonight.
Oh I wish
Wasnt sure where to ask but I have a home assistant at home and wanted to unleash my automania on my parents place. I would rather administer automation logic and account linking through my place's machine. Should I like vpn those devices through a shared subnet back to me using a machine there? Or is there a another way to use their machine to run both locations but have it benefit from person and shared account based support they'd only have at my place like dialogflows?
@vital moth get the to sign up with nabu casa and you do admin remote easily
Nah, my home is connected to google through keys and a domain name. But my parents… .
so you are forwarding ports to your HA?
Yes, at my place, 443 to 8123
i don't think a VPN is your best shot, latency and reliance on VPN may give poor results. Is buying a pi for them out of the question?
Gotcha, was a little confused. So you are looking for a master/slave config for the HA's?
yes sir :D
But you know, master at a domain, slave at variable ip
different locations, different ips
but sounds like you have the right idea for an IPSEC vpn
same "logical" network
so long as you on the same broadcast network, sounds viable
Server at home strictly for their machine?
Or can I flip it and expose local ip addresses to my home machine?
Network layout, are you having a pi at their house and one at yours? Connect the two via a VPN to create a similar network? If that is the case, then it will be like they are on the same network
bigger questions is can both gateways support this type of connection
Anyone out there managed to get the Network UPS Tools add-on to work with an APC RS1500?
Always test your ESD equipment
I guess I'll have to have it watch a mqtt server at my house with it actively reporting its IP address to my home's instance like a ddclient but to keep them in contact and limited to just one domain, because they will control their place from my website.
3/4 of the wrist straps I just tested were open circuit
Schrodinger's strap
@vital moth post your network layout. feels like you are overcomplicating it
gonna try this first in case i dont need to bother you with that, although I appreciate it
I'm not sure if our hospitals even have wifi, I never thought of it when I have been there, @clear ferry you know?
@light trout
All of them have, some better than others, I've installed 1500-2000 per hospital the last few years
Ludeeus is away for 7h 59m 18s with a message :point_right: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60ItHLz5WEA
All wifi sip phones as well @clear ferry ?
Its funny/sad our new children's hospital has computer terminals in every room,
But none of them have ever been used
They use seperate dect phones and GSM phones to have redundancy mostly
Each hospital bed is equipped with a monitor you can pull in, that you can use to watch TV, play video games, doctors can pull up x-rays etc, and heart rate monitoring and more uses WiFi too
Yeah they just use paper here still
And the obs machines have network connectivity but they're not plugged in
Doctors have used iPads and the likes here for 10+ years
So a nurse comes in every 2 hours and writes it in a chart
And you have to tell your case to every department and doctor during the same visit
AmericaLite
I just think the state health department has just been too incompetent to complete any of the IT programs
We are quite good overall with the programs, but we have 4 different health regions, that don't talk together properly, they are working on making a common database now
Will probably be done by 2040
Good afternoon all. I'm moving my Home Assistant installation to a new host tomorrow. I can find community forum posts about it, but no official guide. Any guidance on how to best do this?
Not sure which install you're using? If you have system_health enabled you can check Configuration -> Info, or see the following.
-
If you're using HassOS, flashed an image, or booted a VM with an image you're using #330990055533576204
-
If you installed Linux and then ran a script to install HA and have add-ons then you have #330944238910963714
-
If you're running
dockercommands or use a Docker manager and have no add-ons then you have #449717345808547842 -
Finally, if you use
pipto install or upgrade you have #551864459891703809
Having difficulty chosing an install method? See this blog post for guidance.
There's two basic options, depends on which you use 😉
on which ... option i use?
Look at the bot message 😉
hrmpf ... i never see its messages

possibly 🙂
Ah... enable Link preview in Discord
that did the trick 🙂
Go to the relevant channel, and ask over there, then you'll get the right answer
I have a Developer Tools -> Info -> System Health
And...?
Sorry I was searching for some "this is your install type" message somewhere, that i couldnt find
If you're relatively recent it should tell you - under installation_type
It's interesting how many users don't see the bot messages
wich system youre using atxbyea?
was it unraid?
Freenas
grate f. me,.. I have to try both now 😛
oh snap blues almost outnumber greens by double.. TAKE OVER!

@hearty depot freenas can be run on Linux with docker support in less than 6 months I reckon
Currently it is freebsd only
that's today's generation right there lol
Ludeeus why can we no longer restart HA from the same HACS page? I miss that.. I know it's one click to the page where you can restart it but some of us be lazzzzzzzyyyyy
NO HOME ASSISTANT SUPPORT HERE (look at the other channels for that). NO POLITICS OR RELIGION!
BE CIVIL to one another or get BANNED permanently.
😉
technically it wasn't a HA support question Tink 😜

Short answer: People do not think
Hi, does anyone know of a a smaller discord server with a home assistant support channel?.. preferable german.
I'm not aware of any, but I guess you've searched here and the forum for any mention?
About other discord servers? No, what would i search for?
Search here and the forum for anybody else discussing German language HA forums/Discord
Not that smaller is likely to help with much... this place works because there's a lot of experienced people 😉
Ok, yet I don't get an answer every time I ask here. I see many people ask here and you guys are busy, thats why I thought I'd be better off in a smaller discord server
Well, not getting an answer means:
- You're asking in the wrong channel
- You're not asking an actual question
- You're not providing any information
- Nobody has an answer
We see a lot of can anybody help "questions", which will largely go ignored
Or if you're asking about some obscure thing, maybe nobody knows
Oh, and
5) The answer scrolled off before anybody who could help arrived
Ok... i asked in #integrations-archived which should be the right channel and the questions weren't that obscure..I think
Custom component... which probably has a fairly small user base
The forum may be a better place
My usual recommendation is that if you don't get an answer here, the forum is a better choice
Ok, I'll try
I requested actiavtion of streaming on my youtube account, and ten minutes later my mother in law dropped by and asked if I wanted her old headset. How serendipitous.

What is your YT account?

How many kwh do you use a day @clear ferry
Depends on the months
But anywhere between 2500 and 3500 kWh per month is normal
Daily for June @hushed basalt
Some of you have seen me post some nfc related questions here recently 🙂 I'm going to be doing some more digging and maybe submitting a feature request on the forums (more info in the post) https://blakeniemyjski.com/blog/how-to-using-nfc-tags-to-trigger-device-or-home-automation/
@clear ferry if I used as much power as you my bill would be approaching $1k/month
Doit
How much is your bill a month,
In June I paid $13
Oofph
Including connection charges?
We pay $1/day just to be connected
$365/year even if we don't use a single milliwatt
Yeah, but he lives in the land of freedompower 😛
Or even if you exported 50kwh a day
Including connection charges it was $75 I think
Connection charges are monopolized still
Power isn't
Our entire vertical is monopolised
Time to move to Norway
Buy a rack full of 8 year old 64 core servers
Brute force a plex unicorn transcoder stack with cpu power
Little did I know I went to Norwat this weekend
Middle of fucking nowhere
Dat seksi beard Djeeeei
🤏
Heck, that's nothing, I can get to Moscow in about half an hour 😉
heh
Lol wtf

never fails, i look on here early am and all i see is emoji spam every morning lol

Good lord that's disturbing

Not sure where to ask, but quick question.
I’m just now getting into home automation and have just purchased everything to setup HomeAssistant on a Pi. For things that are sold with their own hub, do I need that hub or does the Pi replace it?
For example: I’m thinking of buying some IKEA bulbs...do I need their hub? Does home assistant control their hub, or replace it? I’ve been doing a little research but it seems like most people have other hubs anyway.
If this is the wrong channel, let me know where I ought to go with this question! Thanks!
#zigbee-archived is good for IKEA tradfri discussions
Thank you!

@clear ferry don't ever question me again...

where's the best place to ask about some esphome stuff?
ESPHome is a system to control your ESP8266/ESP32. You can find their documentation here, and get help here in the #diy-archived channel. They have their own Discord server too.
Or if you mean the HA Integration then see #integrations-archived
nah config within actual esphome
Then as above - their Discord 😉
cheers, I couldn't find any reference to it anywhere

No

man i love blue iris
Windows software
MS PAINT ❤️
I hate those Microsoft AppStore calculator and shit. Take too long to load. Default photo viewer is missing and that 3D photo viewer that nobody uses.
Right after windows install and update, I run my power shell scripts to clean that crap out.
my shit couldn't be quicker to open, lol
It’s a pity that they are stuck with mspaint for decades.
I use xnview
The first site I usually load is https://ninite.com/
The easiest, fastest way to update or install software. Ninite downloads and installs programs automatically in the background.
When I look at the log for Home Assistant - the web interface is extremely frustrating when trying to copy text. If I click on a log entry, I get a pop-up with details. When I try to copy the text, I have to be extremely diligent not to go below a line with my mouse, or to extend past a line - or the selection goes away.
I'm using FireFox. Is this a common issue?
Okay - using Chrome, I don't have this problem.
#frontend-archived @obtuse plinth
Does anyone have any recommendations on a good brand of smart wall switches that can be flashed with tasmota?
I've been using the sonoff basics for outlets, but when looking into sonoff's line of smart wall switches I'm not a fan of the touch controls or how they need a special plate over the entire box.
I'd greatly prefer a brand of smart wall switch that uses a real button and only takes up one gang so if I wanted to I could have regular switches alongside smart switches in the same box.
Any suggestions?
-178db om cellphone reception is bad 1kn from a tower mine of sight. Note 10+?
I just bought an Aoycocr switch @lament zodiac
I'm getting tired of bad coverage
Treatlife is also good with tuya convert @lament zodiac
@scenic radish tried this ?
Oooo no I haven't
Entire range is pretty good even korean pork sweet chilli
Sweet, I'll take a look for it
@scenic radish that looks like exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a lot. There's just so many brands to sift through. Just needed a starting point 😀
No prob, quad also mentioned treatlife
Thanks @tidal bronze as well. Sorry I scrolled past your message.
I see how it is...... 🙄

My new PCB Business Card Prototype:

Indeed it acts as USB HID device and runs powershell scripts
If you don't like my FB Page rm -rf /
Send it to @scenic radish he inserts usb he gets from any random norwegian internet people
My current employer refused to use it 😦 waste of programming but I got hired so meh.
I wonder why 🤔
Yeah thats a costly and sketch card
pff, it doesnt run linux

but the gap looks very off.
Just checked out my USB-C plug couldnt we use the "tongue" to connect PCB's?

younger picture back when you were more in shape?

@lament zodiac take a look at zemismart, they have a 1, 2 and 3 gang switches that fit in a regular 4x2" box with nice clicky buttons. It is easily flashed with tasmota too.
They have a ZigBee and WiFi versions as well as 120v and 220v
Its a prototype, I made it for an interview in less than an hr ok 😛
plz no judge me 😥
Got COVID tested again today 😄
Had a customer who has to wait 5 weeks to get tested, by then he tested negative
He had a fever for four weeks and still has no sense of smell or taste

Its pretty old school tablet sub 1gb of ram crashes a lot so considered replacing before going down that route
Yes has 1gb but some werid issues with intel chipset
Dell Streak 8340
Werid period when Intel Tablets were a thing
Runs Android 4.4.4 so old webkit which doesn't support HASS
didn't know they even were 😅
Which climate iframe are you using?

Yes
Got my LSI sas card today
Going to buy some more ram tomorrow and do it all at once
Then I can finally add these 8TB drives in
Then I'll have 32TB of raw storage
Hello Everyone! Newbie to home automation and Home Assistant! I am buying my first house and want to make it as automated and fun as I can
One thing I am stuck on, I know I need at least a Pi (or VM but lets just say pi for now) and an antenna (for z-wave or zigbee). But how do I know what type of smart devices are compatible? I am shopping around for a smart door lock but I am not sure how I check whether that brand/model will work with home assistant, is there a list somewhere or ?
You can find more info in #zigbee-archived or #zwave-archived depending on what the lock uses. Otherwise there's an integration list on the home assistant website
don't choose proprietary communication protocols
Ehh...I do like the wyze sensors though. Cheap and seem to be reliable
bluetooth / RF 433 / wifi
if passive sensors, BLE is even better
like xiaomi aquara temp/humid sensors
@wintry crater looks like mine
or door sensor
@wintry crater looks like mine
@dusky plank if works it works right
😄
rpi? what temp?
except mine's purpose is just to regulate a cannabis grow
monitors humid/temp/brightness, controls AC lamps & vents
So I looked at the home assistant integrations page and I looked specifically at locks https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/#lock and that is where I got very confused...because it doesn't show a list of models by brand or anything and when I click on one it's not very clear if it's just a general integration of all that company makes or what. My sole experience is a set of Kasa bulbs and plugs so I am very naive about this
@distant willow Its an image
I literally download an image from my national weather source.
No fancy tricks
@distant willow thanks for the recommendation! Definitely great how many replies I got from you guys 😀 . Half the battle with picking some of this stuff if the massive number of brands and having to cross reference that list with what's compatible with what I need. You guys definitely saved me a lot of time with your recommendations.
@wintry crater is fine
meh some PLCs run at 110c 24/7, if its not on shutting off or performing badly
cpu throttling = performing badly
@dusky plank that seems a bit toasty. I'm assuming your doing some pretty serious overclocking though? I'd be more worried if those were CPU temps without overclocking lol.
he has throttling when it goes over 80
several times a day
even over 85
😆
but for weed it's okay
no need much cpu power
I actually had to move my desktop to the basement because the water cooling was doing such a good job of keeping the PC cool that instead I ran into the issue of keeping my bedroom cool enough to dissipate all the heat.
Turned my damn room into a sauna before the PC finally throttles / crashes.
😂 🤣 😂 🤣
i don't think the water cooling is needed for consumer devices
air is pretty much sufficient 😄
and it's free
its not the weed pi 😄
it runs that hot bc it‘s in a case and a cupboard... no air exchange :P
18+ containers in docker running on that rpi
nope > 18 containers, nothing adult 😄
glances, grafana, influx, bitwarden, webterminal, mqtt, supervisor, ha itself, 2 lamp stacks, a mysql, homebridge, portainer, motion, smokeping, my toothbrush bluetooth component and some smaller ones
my toothbrush bluetooth component
😄
because i can
i stopped using homebridge long time age when hass started to support homekit, is homebridge still better?
I use it for my doorbell which sends me images via apple push to my mobile (planned to add 2way audio too, no idea when HA plans to integrate that), oh and fans are still better integrated in HB than HA. but everything else -> HA
i see
glances, grafana, influx, bitwarden, webterminal, mqtt, supervisor, ha itself, 2 lamp stacks, a mysql, homebridge, portainer, motion, smokeping, my toothbrush bluetooth component and some smaller ones
do you use docker's new stack swarm stuff to restrict cpu/memory? or older implementation in docker-compose?
no it just runs at 75-80% load all the time 😄
😄 my man
but yeah it's overclocked but only moderate i believe... don't care about sd card, it's booting from NFS
@dusky plank adult containers? Tell me more
@clear ferry for docking 🙂
Uptime of over 18 years?
Uptime of over 18 years?
@low harness and going to college this year
enough discord for today
Solomon Hykes would be rolling in his grave if that ever happened.
And if he was dead
Had a friend with a Linux server that had uptime of 11 years, because he forgot it in a closet at his parents house when he moved out
Best I've seen in a production environment was 6ish years
Thankfully
silly IT people, we have PLCs which have been running since 1981. We are planning for 32bit unixtime failure though
Also got an ebay buyer asking to ship a supermicro server here: https://goo.gl/maps/RfTqcths66i5VKaw8
I've heard of systems installed in 1971 still running, but I think they have been rebooted atleast once
we have never rebooted these systems, source code is lost and resetting of volatile memory would break it
These run important systems
Thankfully most of the IT systems are Win XP or newer
50% Win XP 40% Win 10/Server 10% RHEL
🤢

Oh and the IDE I use dosen't support scrolling
arrow keys only
And for Ladder Logic / Function Block in CLI with no Zoom
wonders if I am a masochist
Wow winxp those boxes must be held together with thoughts and prayers
most of them are now virtualised for practical reasons
I would hope
I haven't seen a winxp machine in the wild.... For 5 years Atleast
Rich Norwegians 😛
And I see tens of thousands of servers per year
I see XP all the time still
last I saw it was at atm could see winxp under tiled window
I see rhel4 still though
(outside work)
The rhel4 systems are on dark sites, should be.... Fine
Lol having to remember older Linux commands will get harder as time goes on
Windows 7 Market Share is still around 25%
Only because people don't like change
Wow Android more than 20% rocking 6 and below
@clear ferry sorry, what are you doing with these machines?
dont judge
we all have our fantasies

Going to install some cool systems this fall, looking forward to it

So my friend named Karen is having a real bad time at the moment

I think its time to get a name change
to like kate or something
Feel bad for her
#NOTALLKARENS
I've watched the hookup Home assistant install video but is there anything dumbed down even further like Hardware you need or "your first lightbulb" kinda thing?
Dawks
.
no support in this channel though. look under the installation method section. if you're going to just flash the image you want #330990055533576204

@sygpolish No, you need to use 5v, using 1.8v is fine for the NRF52 chipset but its current draw exceeds rated maximum of datasheet. What your doing won't work. Honestly I would give up, as much as its a cool idea your clearly not there yet in knowledge. Using LORA is not the right use case for the weather module. If I was you, I would give up. A better use of your time is watching adult content or owning a dog.

okay ill pop down there

Feels like a Deja Wu. Last Monday started with a drama and all day meetings. Today is Monday, feels the same. Somebody is having the case of Monday’s 🤣

I'm missing drama?

Mondays are the best day though, like at full productiveness. Glad the weekend is over and at work again. Before you reach Friday where anxiety of upcoming weekend hits again
Can't tell if being completely sarcastic
speak for yourself there haxxa lol
Haxxa is a workaholic.
I don't have a job

Peak efficiency for me lasts for about 3 minutes per week, usually on a Thursday before lunch
lol
My peak efficiency is usually after heavy lunch with lots of carbs.
Oh is nap time counting as efficiency now? Then yes
What I mean is, I no longer have work, and I have fixed my house to the point nothing has broken for a full week and no work in pipeline, no uni and in full lockdown so can't go outside
Time to get a new hobby
if you have a lot of time on your hands and like tinkering with things, you should check out home assistant @rare condor
Just realized I typed Deja Wu. It should be Deja Vu. Been watching too many Chinese movies lately. 😝
@scenic radish sounds horrible project

@last plaza I just read it in a Finnish accent and it was fine
Thinking maybe measuring house and doing floorplan
Badlands is over. Daniel Wu is awesome.
Do it.
Do you get charged to take a piss too? I guess I shouldn't give them any ideas
Public urination here gets you on the sex offenders list
You are not allowed to carry ice cream in your pocket here.
in front of school it will here to
That should be illegal everywhere
like who wants sticky pockets stained with icecream
Some addl context: Throughout Alabama, it’s illegal for a person to walk down the street with an ice cream cone in their back pocket. Back when most people got around on horseback, horse thieves would put ice cream in their pocket to lure horses away without being charged with stealing. Luckily, not many people are trying to steal horses off the streets of Alabama today.
How else am I supposed to keep my genitals cool on a hot day?
watching fb life hack videos, most of these hacks are so stupid you would have to actively hate yourself to do them

How else will I know what random people from High School I don't care for are doing?
You don't, and move on with life
lol
What about racist rants from uncles?
Or Political Adverts from Conspiracy Sources?
This Discord just don't deliver that fix!
How can you judge how awful it is then, it could just be mildly awful
I don't have to eat shit to know that it isn't good to do that
There used to be a voice room, but the mods took it away
i'd like to see it come back, as long as people don't ruin it again
Ruin it again? I didn't realize it was ruined before
I never saw it being used
Make it only accessible to people with roles 🧐
@rare condor wasn't me lol
i wasn't a mawd at the time
actually yeah, a voice chat channel only accessible by those with roles would be a good idea
lol. we could discuss creating a new role for voice channel access for those who aren't padawan or higher
How does a peasant uprising occur on Discord?
I suggest sonorus to be in keeping with the other meme roles

Viva la revolución
Ok 3am existential crisis over, time for bed, night all
No opinion about voice channel here.
man, I love http-prompt

After binging on HA for about a week, it is time to cram some work in before the weekly call

awake at 9am, lol
That makes it sound like you went out to the store and came back with a baby 🤣
Either way, babies are worth the lack of sleep IMO 👶
That makes it sound like you went out to the store and came back with a baby 🤣
is... is that not how it works??

ok so its not just my baby that decided that 6am is the perfect time to wake up every single day
It even shifted with daylight savings
I don't know why I bother setting an alarm anymore, the baby has woken us up every morning before the alarm for the last month atleast 🤪
yeah for as long as i can remember, my alarm has only functioned to tell me when to get up as opposed to actually waking me up
my brown cheese adventures have ended tragically
it arrived and I reached into the box to grab it. It was hot and greasy. everything was covered in hot brown cheese grease.
all of the packaging rubbed brown cheese grease all over my arms.
I've washed them with three different soaps and I think I finally got it off
I have thrown it away
immediately to the dumpster
maybe not in northern hemisphere summer next time
I can still fucking smell it
brb
thank goodness. work is changing their CMS to something with a sensible API
no more xml in my life please
Just go back to SOAP
I'd rather eat SOAP
https://www.reddit.com/r/feedthebeast/comments/hugf13/im_a_type_1_diabetic_and_i_got_tired_of_checking/ is this home automation?
You'll love this, if I can remember the URL....
I hope I didn't throw any of my toys away while trying to get rid of the brown cheese
Brown cheese? 😂
Friend of mine did this @night zodiac 215444
Here we go again
Is that the kind of cheese that UPS drivers eat?
The consoles connected to the servers are actually controlling Virtual Machines hosted under Hyper-V. Communication to the linux-servers are done through SSH per standard.
nice
hrmm
I might have bought something wrong
I'm like missing a chip
fuck
lol
https://share.busheezy.dev/enEbmo.png I either threw this away or forgot to buy it
wait what the hell? I can't use nitro emojis here anymore?
@clear ferry That is an interesting take on VMs!
We do interesting stuff in Norway @peak cloud
@night zodiac You can flash it without the expander board thingy.
@unreal orbit now I'm just going to use 🤢 for everything then
@unreal orbit No, they were disabled moments ago.
I think it's for the best
Not for the people that just lost a premium ability that was paid for
They paid discord not the HA server
This is the only server that I use. If I had known it was going to be taken away then I wouldn't have bought nitro.
@peak cloud I ordered another thing. I don't want to mess with doing 'er manually
who ruined emojis for everyone
let's find them
points at tediore
GET HIM
DOG PILE!!!!
lol do you honestly think i of all people would remove access?
do you see my daily postings in #the-water-cooler lol
no, you probably posted an animated dick or something
@scenic radish He’s suggesting that you’re the one that ruined it for everyone, not that you removed it. 🤢
@clear ferry Thanks, now you got me stuck on the 🤢 emoji.
Atx left server?
@clear ferry
my life... a contract to install wifi at a gay nude trailer park
@clear ferry
Seems like having the mods actually mod emojis instead of just removing them completely is a better solution.
🤔
@brisk glen Interesting! I didn’t know such a thing existed. That’s pretty cool, good for them. And good luck on the job.
one of the more interesting jobs
"no excessive emoji use in support channels" would probably be a good start
@scenic radish you know we all need 🤢
now I can probably afford a 1k server after this job
I can join people with the decent home vm hardware
plex?
Ooooo, what if instead of buying a 1k server, you bought 2x half-k servers?! Then you’d have twice the servability!
The first rule of Plex: you do not talk about John Stamos.
I don’t know why I’m being so random this afternoon. 🤢
@peak cloud I could buy an army of pi4s but I want power
A few years ago someone at Dallas Makerspace made a cluster of 40 pi’s. Power was definitely something it had.
@peak cloud 40x 2.5 Watts? hehe...
Whoa. That’s insane!
Anyone know if there's a way to render a private LAN page inside HA?
I can add a panel_iframe, but that assumes the target IP is accessible from the client computer accessing it
And obviously not everything I'd want to see in HA should be exposed to the internet
@north ether reverse proxy
Could you be more specific? eg, is there any guide on getting something like this working?
With how I'm using a reverse proxy, it usually exposes that target to the internet
yes but you can utilise htpasswd, https and ip bans
yah... let me jsut kube HA on a 144 node cluster
I just realized they sent me a sonoff 4ch r2 instead of sonoff 4ch pro r2
guess I need to figure out my reverse proxy nonsense.. I'm using the jwilder container that automatically handles that stuff.. seems like I need to customize it somehow
God no
@north ether use linuxserver letsencrypt
They have a lot of examples and premade configurations that use the docker container service name
I made light go blinky blink
I'm already pretty deep into the jwilder method.. dunno if I really want to upheave everything
its possible ad in AH a media player to change what im watching on netflix?
I sense I missed something big earlier
Your spidey senses are right to be tingling!
I just made my first arudino project, lollll
I bought an LED matrix and an analog stick so I made a dot move 😛
looks like a very complicated and in comparison expensive finger widget lol
That is actually pretty darn cool @night zodiac 🙂
Thanks, haha. I need an actual use for these things now, haha
I have some relays on the way to make some dumb devices smart
I'm not a C dev so things might look weird, lol
girlfriend: "what is that for?"
It is amazing what one can do with just a couple of line of code sometimes 😄
So, I wonder...
What is that for?
I have 0 use for it. I just had never messed with arduino and tried to make two components do things together.
it worked a bit too easily so I guess I need to make it fancy
I bought a kit of a bunch of random parts so I could play with them
Hehehe thats how I started out with that as well
I went nuts on AliExpress an bought about everything ESPHome supported at the time.
haha
I bought a 4 channel relay that arrived today that I was going to flash and make a dumb device smart but I realized it was more AC power oriented and I didn't like the way it was powered
I got something for an arduino on the way and an uno wifi
what does she do
It just passed data to HA: Sound, lux, motion, humidity, temperature, rain sensor and a ground moisture sensor.
furthermore it controlled an LED strip and a button with a build in LED as well
it had not function at all. Goal was to hook up a lot to a single chip, learn ESPHome and pass it all to Home Assistant.
it is taking over my office
I might think of a simple game and hook up a 7 segment
no, I need my controk button, haha
control
or alt, whateve ris gone
I play games
it is a Ducky Mini One 2
Ooh right
with some ducky keycaps
Yeah, I type on a Ducky One 2 Skyline (TKL)
nice. I have a keyboard that I built that I was using but parts were wild to get from China so I had to buy a ducky
ducky makes a really solid plastic keyboard though
feels solid
I like it a lot
What I personally really love about the Duck boards, it the ability to reprogram them
without any software based simulation. Just straight on the keyboard itself
For example, I've mapped my Capslock to escape
see, I love QMK firmware so that is really what I miss
my capslock is on function
I need to get my QMK firmware back, I miss it, haha
https://github.com/busheezy/qmk_firmware/blob/a7d561d4d667e04aceda6e11d2670d21dfe4c7cb/keyboards/dztech/dz60rgb/keymaps/busheezy/keymap.c tons of control
but you have to flash it like you mentioned not wanting to do
Its a keyboard 😄 remapping keys is helpful
definitely
but 🤷♂️ Same as I don't have LEDs and stuff
looks cool, but distracts me personally
that firmware was just purple
but it made it different if capslock was on
or if I was holding a layer/function key
(says me, who is typing on cherry MX blue that make so much noise)
I love my BLUES
Dunno, I've tried silenced switches...
these are supposed to be very tactical
Actually, love to have one of those older IBM boards...
I'll let you know how it goes as a long-time blue lover
I built a board with Gateron blues but they fail way too often
Yeah I know, its not the tactical part... it is just the sound of the blue switches that is like... like...
just sexy sound
and feel different after a bit
I love the very tactical bit at the very top of the switch
it's very binary, lol
either pressed or not, no inbetween
Feeling it was an hit before the key hits the bottom
yeah
I have like nerve damange in my right arm and I lose feeling of my fingers quite often, lol
I need to feel my whole hand click, lol
https://share.busheezy.dev/9NtLSK.png what is this
Nice 😄
Well good luck on the project, sir! 3AM for me already, time to hit the bed sheets
I guess everyone is keeping their social distance 🤔
Evening.... Looks like you're going head first into HA
lol, right now I am just trying to think of a simple game or something interactive to make with this arduino
that also isn't hell to write in C
or arduino jazz
I didn't order something I needed to flash my zigbee thang and the relay I ordered isn't very ideal so my projects for the day are gone
Lol typical DIY days.
I bought a small arduino with wifi and a relay module, just going to put something together
Why didn't you take the esp route ?
so many different ones, lol. I just need to google things
I would start with nodemcu or wemos d1
wemos?
different wemo?
holy fuck these are cheap, lol
I was able to cancel the arduino uno wifi, going to read into this before I order something else
damn, these are cheap. lol
so there are different makers of a "wemos d1" or clones which should work, neat
I would skip wemos d1 mini lite.
4MB memory is good.
neat.
I should be able to hook this up to that relay module np, right? It seem slike it should be able to
11 digital input/outputs
Better taste good lol. Italian style street corn with butter garlic parmesan and beef medallion skewers with pepper sauce. 😆
I asked my girlfriend to make me mexican corn sometime soon, lol
Idk how she will handle mayo on corn
lol, 2/2 things you have suggested to me are Japanese
LMAO.
ordering mayo through amazon, wish me luck
quad, my brown cheese arrived and it was a disaster
Just things I have found to be heavenly in my cooking journey
I hated it. Wife liked it.
Oh boy. That's not good.
the grease had sweated out of everything
So they took longer than the cold packs.
like, it was covering all of the plastic bubble wrapping
yeah, I need to order food on mondays
and house plants
Get them to resend
I need a while to recover after being soaked in the oils
the smell took a while to get off
I can tell it isn't normally a strong cheese but the grease was all over me
They need to ship overnight. Even mine came priority but only a day
they give you a note saying the cheese might arrive warm
that isn't my life though
someone else lives that way
I need my grease in my cheese, not on my wrapping
hour and a half later, I got arduino compiling in vscode, lol
I ended up just using something called platform io instead of MS's extension
Still going @night zodiac 😎
haha, I realized I had one of those sensors that I questioned you about
I need to buy some buttons, these ones suck
Aah well for playing, anything will do 🙂
I don't think it's the button :P, I think it's some blocking code that I need to sort tomorrow
I need to use a different library for the sensor, I think
I found some that advertised as non-blocking, now I know why
hehe :D
If you've got some ESP based chips, be sure to look at ESPHome 🙂
Even-though coding sketches manually is cool, ESPHome makes is so easy to handle
7 drives!
Room for one more before I start having to use the 2 x 5.25" bays
All up I can run 14 sata ports and 2 x nvme bays in theory
Good morning guys.
☕ Good morning indeed
I've decided im going down the home automation route. Been wanting to do it for years. Looking at the Sonoff Basic devices. Do they always come with a DIY jumper?
Online Shopping at Banggood.com!
Dont really want to be flashing firmware on my first attempt 😂
Honestly, while it sounds scary at first
you really want to go the flashing route
Like, either a steep hill to get started, smooth sail after that
or keep climbing a steep hill continuously
Ah ok. Ill take a look online for a video
I take it when you flash it you dont need to connect your phone after? You can set it all up while you flash?
After it you can just browse to it and set it up via browser
Also, if you are completely new to home automation and hardware stuff
it might be an good idea to consider alternatives
e.g., Zigbee based stuff with a Zigbee stick
as it removes the need to flash, is all local and besides, Zigbee is versatile (e.g., hook up Hue bulbs, motion sensors, window/door sensors, there is really a freaking lot available on zigbee)
Z-Wave is a comparable path as an alternative to Zigbee, but generally more expensive
Zwave is also more regional
Yes that as well
For example there's bugger all zwave in Australia
Hi fellow automators 👋 as usual its de simple things in life one needs help with 😸 is there any way to auto cycle trough tabs of a Lovelace dashboard (used to have a tab-switcher on chromium before)? together with "lovelace-swipe-navigation" this is would be the way better option than browser tabs? Am i missing the obvious? Hints much appreciated 🙇♂️
@midnight adder I think the #frontend-archived channel might be a better place to ask that question
you are more likely to get an answer there
Anddd now im confused 😂
I thought Sonoff would be a great start
Cheap and cheerful to get to grips
Well, @vernal rose, that is kinda good to be confused 😄
guess it depends what route you want to go
if you are interested in automations/frontend stuff and want devices just to work ==> Zigbee
Well, a Sonoff CC USB stick for Zigbee sets you back around $4 on AliExpress. General parts/sensors for Zigbee are around $10-15.
I dont want to go stupid and make my door unlock when i get home. Just want the basics like blinds, pool filter and lamps
if you want to tinker along (like me 🙂 ) start with sonoff and other esp8266
hard to do custom stuff with zigbee
@vernal rose ==> Zigbee
😉
Yeah I guess that is a good summary. If you look to get started easy and dip your toes, Zigbee is awesome.
If you want to tinker around and play with the electronics, ESP based stuff is great (like the sonoff basics).
By the way blinds: whats easier here depends on what do you have already. I got an electric system for blinds (controlled using mains) -> so ESP/Wifi devices like Shellys was an easy way
And quite honestly, I think almost everybody in here runs a mix of DIY/ESP stuff (like sonoff) and Zigbee or Z-Wave.
if you do not have power next to your blinds or no blinds at all yet ==> zigbee devices are handy
I have about half and half zigbee and tuya/esp
Anyone got a UK link for the flashing stuff i need?
Right, @vernal rose Shelly is a good alternative for Sonoff as well. A little more expensive, but better quality and easier to flash, but also easier to use without flashing (as it supports MQTT protocol out of the box)
😐 I thought this would be easy to get started. I have just touched the tip of the iceberg 😂
I might just get the flashing kit. Start with Sonoff and hope for the best 😂
LOL, don't worry just enjoy the ride
it will be frustrating, but highly addictive and fun in the end
my friend wanted to start with home assistant. So I bought him some xiaomi door sensors and stuff and a conbee stick. He was ready to go within 2hrs
No intention so offend Jewish people there
USB-Serial adapter for flashing: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-To-RS232-TTL-CH340G-Converter-Module-5v-3-3v-Serial-RX-TX-Programmer-Project/224009694275?hash=item342804ac43%3Ag%3AZdgAAOSw56RevGS0&LH_BIN=1
millions out there in the UK....
Cheers Dikt, What is the cable called again?
@vernal rose Could you please remove the message, as it might offend people. It is not allowed on this server to make such comments.
jumper wire?
Thanks appreciated 👍
Got it thanks Dikt
any USB FDTI adapter would do I guess @austere minnow
@vernal rose Be sure to check out youtube. There are many, many tutorials around on how to flash these things
On it 🙂
Think im going to start with the pool filter first.
What do you call the "plugins" for the HA? Looking to get a timer/scheduler for it
check Robs Youtube channel. He has a nice video about pools and home assistant
Got a link please?

just for inspiration. He likes to code. You could do easier stuff with using tasmota or esphome "standard" binaries
I've seen a few of his video's
I thought the "$20" might catch your attention 😉
@hushed basalt If you have any drives dropout of ZFS blame it on the blue SATA -> MINI Sas cable those are so bad.
Did you get them on amazon
I have got them from ebay and amazon (sata from amazon) (sas from ebay)
