Is Australia learned or Learnt?
Reader's question: What is the difference between learned and learnt as the past tense of the verb 'to learn'? Answer: Both are acceptable and mean the same thing. Learnt is more common in British, Australian and New Zealand English, and learned is more common in US English.

### The Problem with the Cloud for the Smart Home

- Complete reliance on the internet
- Your Data is being mined
- Features and products can be killed off
- Security of your data and your home
#

Here's my summary,

wintry crater
#

biggest problem is connection reliability

hushed basalt
#

Anything you'd add or change

wintry crater
#

everything else you can somehow negotiate, but connection is the biggest problem

#

like yesterday, cloudflare was down - all internet was down basically

hushed basalt
#

Got to love IoT stuff that shuts down when it can't dial the mothership

clear ferry
#

Dem Aussie power prices

#

🤢

hushed basalt

That's cheap too

#

#

PriVatIsaTioN

ashen kayak
#

I'd remove the Killed off section

#

most releases with HA have breaking changes that kill integrations

hushed basalt
#

True,

#

But you could run whatever version of HA you wanted forever

#

You can't run a google home on 2017 firmware forever

clear ferry
#

Been $0.003 per kWh for two months now

ashen kayak
#

most end up getting fixed, but be safe

hushed basalt
#

zero dot zero zero three?

#

That's.. cheap

clear ferry
#

USD that is

hushed basalt
#

That's literally 100x cheaper

wintry crater
#

running old version makes it harder to upgrade in the future

hushed basalt
#

That's not the point i'm getting at 😉

#

My point is if you flash your own lightbulb with tuyaconvert, or run zigbee2mqtt, you can stay on whatever features you want

wintry crater
#

this is true, i flashed esphome year ago on all my sonoff devices and i don't have to touch them at all

ashen kayak
#

who doesn't want the latest and greatest though?

hushed basalt
#

It's probably the summary I need to focus on right now though

wintry crater
#

true, we are here cause we want the latest and greatest

hushed basalt
#

The smart home industry has exploded, but can we have the convenience without trading security?
We'll cover the concerns with the cloud based smart homes, and the leading open source alternative. Using Home Assistant and Python we can make our homes more comfortable, safer, reduce our bills and lower our footprint.

wintry crater
#

😄

hushed basalt
#

But do you want the latest and greatest of what a product team at a company decides

wintry crater
#

they want latest, greatest and stable which is impossible

hushed basalt
#

Like Chromecast still takes over my TV whenever it turns on, and there's nothing I can do to stop that without killing CEC entirely

#

Or I can't change the trigger word from Google

wintry crater
#

Like Chromecast still takes over my TV whenever it turns on, and there's nothing I can do to stop that without killing CEC entirely
this is strange

hushed basalt
#

Not really,

#

The chromecast sees that the TV has turned on

#

and assumes you must want to use the chromecast,

ashen kayak
#

If it was me, I'd take python out of the summary

hushed basalt
#

I'm using appdaemon,

#

and it's for a python meetup

ashen kayak
#

then you are stating the obvious

#

welcome to my python presentation, allow me to preset this solution powered by python

wintry crater
#

i think you need to mention python only once at the beginning

hushed basalt
#

How's this

#

Using Home Assistant with Python we can make our homes more comfortable, safer, reduce our bills and lower our footprint.

#

I've changed it to 'with Python'

wintry crater
#

👍

ashen kayak
#

agreed

hushed basalt
#

I'm not sure about this line

The smart home industry has exploded, but can we have the convenience without trading security?

#

I think I'll cut it

ashen kayak
#

too many "and" in the bio. Last sentence is a run on

#

I like that line IMO

#

HA is very secure and local, thats why most of us chose it

hushed basalt
#

A DevOps and lean enthusiast, my background is in telecommunications, film and television. I first learnt Python to automate some of my tasks at work and have been expanding on there ever since.

For over a year I've run Home Assistant in my home. Starting with a single smart bulb, and now over 50 connected devices.

#

I hate writing

#

last sentence is clumsy but I don't know how to fix it

ashen kayak
#

Lol, sadly I'm good at it. That is too broad. Give me a sec for the last one

#

For the last year, I estimate that I've saved x dollars per month. I started with a single light bulb, but I have seen returns with the over 50 additional sensors that had been added that paid for itself in x months. The ROI on solar power is 15 years on average, the ROI on home automation is 15 days with Home Assistant.

#

My limited marketing education, explain why their solution sucks first, then push your product. Close to Maslow's theory

clever mortar
#

Cost/benefit analysis 😉

hushed basalt
#

We all know we don't want to do cost benefit analysis on our homeassistant stacks 😉

#

Especially time opportunity costs

clear ferry
#

benefits?

#

Can't I only have cost ?

hushed basalt
#

cost cost benefit

clear ferry
#

Costly benefits

hushed basalt
#

What damage would we do to society if we didn't have this as a distraction

ashen kayak
#

ROI is how you sell it

hushed basalt
#

It's kind of more of a show and tell sort of meetup

#

Not me trying to push anything on them

clever mortar
#

Yeah, but you can save money is always good 😉

ashen kayak
#

But are you trying to make yourself more fiscally attractive?

#

rawr

clear ferry
#

Does $8 or $12 make a difference on my power bill you say?

ashen kayak
#

4$?

clever mortar
#

$4 x 50 per month might 😄

hushed basalt
#

If I had solar and energy monitoring 😢

#

My hands are very tied renting

#

I can identify the problems, but can't fix any of them

ashen kayak
#

Gotta spend min 20k in panel/controllers

hushed basalt
#

Solar isn't too expensive here

#

$5k-$15k depending on what you get

#

I think most people spend under $10k

ashen kayak
#

thats nice, batteries is the hard part here

hushed basalt
#

When their power is $0.30-$0.50/kwh that's quite a good payback

#

Plus rebates

#

I would say batteries are a false economy for most people

ashen kayak
#

false economy?

hushed basalt
#

The cost doesn't justify the savings

#

You'd be far better off using that money to reduce the consumption,

#

insulation, air sealing, better windows, external shading, etc etc

ashen kayak
#

No tax benefit for window sealing here. but there is one for solar

hushed basalt
#

I'd get solar, but monitor the shit out of your house,

#

temperature, humidity, power imports and exports,

ashen kayak
#

agreed

hushed basalt
#

Then use those metrics to attack the best ROI

#

rinse and repeat

clear ferry
#

I can cover my whole sun intensive side of the roof for $14k

#

But meh, I'm probably going to sell soon anyway

hushed basalt
#

My guess is batteries would never end up at the top of that list,

hushed basalt

Why even both with solar though

#

If your energy is free

#

You're using money to buy solar panels to capture renewable energy to reduce the amount of hydro energy you use?

hollow bobcat
#

Is homeassistant just a hub?

hushed basalt
#

Yes

hollow bobcat
#

Oh then what is it? Sorry I'm very new to smart home stuff

hushed basalt
#

It's loosely analogous to Google Home app

#

Basically I would install Home Assistant and start with your first devices

#

Whatever you have already. A google home, a chromecast, anything like that

#

You can also see demos of homeassistant

hollow bobcat
#

How does it communicate? And what does it run on?

hollow bobcat
#

Well it's right there lol my bad

#

I can run it on my server

clever mortar
hollow bobcat
#

Thank you. Do a lot of people run a pi or run it on a server? Depending on my electricity bill, I might not run my server year round because of power draw

clever mortar
#

Pi is ... ok but SD cards die without warning

hollow bobcat
#

So server is more stable I'm assuming.

light trout
#

if you monitor the system closely you get warnings

clever mortar
#

Same stablility

#

I ran on a Pi for over 2 years without issues

#

Performance however is quite different

#

I went from a Pi3 to a 7 year old laptop, and the performance boost was massive

hollow bobcat
#

Good to know. I'll definitely work it into my homelab. Just bought a house so starting to plan it all out.

#

Oh wow. Yeah I'll probably run it on an Ubuntu vm in docker

light trout
#

I wonder how bad a pi3 actually is now with all the optimizations that have been done lately

clever mortar
#

My test install is still on one, "not terrible"

subtle pasture
#

I'd only run it on a Pi of you're prepared to get USB-boot working so you can boot from a USB-attached SSD

#

The performance increase is massive, and you don't have to worry about killing MicroSD cards

hollow bobcat
#

That seems like a good option for sure. And ssd are pretty cheap. I have a decent server, just need to buy more ram to add blueiris and this and whatever else I decide

subtle pasture
#

Yeah, I was surprised at how cheap low-capacity SSDs had gotten. I picked up a 120GB SATA SSD and a USB to SATA adapter, together, for $42

clever mortar
#

Pi4 + SSD will make a quite reasonable platform to get started with

#

I'd still rather a real system though 😉

subtle pasture
#

"real"

hollow bobcat
#

Nicee. I have to buy another 3TB sas hdd to add to my raid. Bringing my storage to 12 TB

clever mortar
#

Motion detection, object detection, those all require far more power than a Pi has

subtle pasture
#

Granted, I wouldn't want to run something like tensorflow on a pi...

clever mortar
#

Pis are great "starter" platforms

subtle pasture
#

It's not gonna handle running AI image recognition on multiple cameras very well. lol

clever mortar
#

Or motion detection on one 😛

hollow bobcat
#

How much dedicated ram on an Ubuntu vm do you think it needs?

subtle pasture
#

My cameras funnel directly into a Synology NAS, it's doing all that for me, so I dodged that bullet 😛

clever mortar
#

1 GB or so - given that's all a Pi has and that's enough

light trout
#

What hypervisor?

clever mortar
#

Unless you're going to use add-ons...

hollow bobcat
#

Virtual box is what I use currently

#

@subtle pasture what cameras do you run?

light trout
hollow bobcat
#

Oh nice its own os.

#

Hmm I was leaning towards a container

clever mortar
#

Yes, but no

#

There's an embedded option, but it's not the only way

light trout
#

When you run it in a VM you are probably planing on using that entire VM for it, so the OS makes most sense IMO

#

That way, there is less maintnance for you to do as well

hollow bobcat
#

It does for sure because I haven't dedicated a VM just for docker

#

I have my webserver VM, Plex VM, pihole vm

subtle pasture
#

@hollow bobcat They're Panasonic something's. Lemme get the model number...

#

Haven't looked since I set them up to record to the NAS, honestly. It kinda just works.

hollow bobcat
#

Know of any Poe cameras that work with homeassistant?

light trout
subtle pasture
#

Isn't that just for cloud-connected cameras?

#

What if they're just a local h.264 / MJPEG stream source?

hollow bobcat
#

Sweet it does support ip cameras

subtle pasture
#

Oh, I see MJPEG IP camera in there. That'll do it

hushed basalt
#

Mm grafana is really powerful

#

I'm only half a day in but it's already proving very cool

hushed basalt
#

I'm glad I'm taking the time to learn query languages

scenic radish

I can write basic SQL queries and use joins and stuff

hushed basalt

scenic radish

hushed basalt

I would recommend setting up influxdb now

hushed basalt

You should play with this stuff for work though

I have the same case, they are annoying always fail to close correctly (from bunnings)

wintry crater
#

i was thinking of removing the brain of my AC and put there some esp32's and bunch of relays with thermostats

#

i think i'm crazy

rare condor
#

Is every just relay controlled?

#

Most have more complex systems than that and timing is important

wintry crater
#

i think ac is just relays that turn on and off compressor and fans, and some thermostats

rare condor
#

Like what type of AC?

wintry crater
#

Split, indoors and outdoors unit

#

and it doesnt use much power, just under 5A at 220V

rare condor
#

I wouldn't do that, we deal with a lot of split systems at work. Timing is pretty important and they have safety features and fail safes usually, we deal with big 10kw Daiken and Mitsubishi units. Not sure of your county though

wintry crater
#

inverter type ac has timing or just any ac?

#

mine is simple, just turns on and off a compressor and fan relay but i might be wrong

rare condor
#

no fan speed control?

wintry crater
#

there is indoor fan speed control

hushed basalt
#

I'd just control it indirectly

wintry crater
#

outdoor seems works at constant speed

hushed basalt
#

How do you control it now

rare condor
#

I mean why not just use IR control from an ESP?

#

Or Relay control the circuit if it has autostart and soft starts?

#

but really thats a bad idea

hushed basalt
#

^

wintry crater
#

okay, i will rethink my crazy idea

hushed basalt
#

How do you control it currently

wintry crater
#

i was looking for hacking its UART port but i have zero knowledge

#

currently i use IR control as you said

rare condor
#

I would just hack whatever input you use i.e. usually an IR remote

#

Look at Tasmota has in built IRlib for 90% of Split Systems

hushed basalt
rare condor
#

make sure to use tasmota-ir for that but yeah best discussed in #diy-archived or better yet in Tasmota Discord where people would be better equipted to help you.

wintry crater
#

okay mildpanic

rare condor
#

@hushed basalt That's a cool project hadn't seen that before.

#

Prefer that over current use of IR

wintry crater
#

but seems simple isnt it

hushed basalt
#

I miss split systems

#

Ducted is awful

rare condor
#

no its not simple enough to replace with an esp and some relays

#

you will regret that decision if you go that route

wintry crater
#

i know it has thermostats for icing protection for indoor and overheat protection for outdoor

hushed basalt
#

If you have to ask then you're not up to something like this

rare condor
#

@wintry crater I'm not trying to be rude or discouraging mate, but I program embedded firmware on Microcontrollers and PLC for my job and I would not be prepared to undertake a project like this. Its way more involved than you base it to be.

wintry crater
#

Not rude, i totally understand

rare condor
#

Best bet is to try and control the existing logic

wintry crater
#

Just thinking aloud, and probably i shouldn't go that route as you said

hushed basalt
#

If you're in Perth again you should look at the micro on my vacuum chamber sealer hax

#

I spilt some water on it and ever since then it doesn't work until I leave it on standby for an hour and then it works haha

rare condor
#

you have a vacuum chamber? Nice

hushed basalt
#

Shitty design, there's no ip protection at all on the front panel

#

Even though it's designed to have bags of liquid loaded and unloaded into it

rare condor
#

lol

#

sounds like the sort of thing I buy from ali 😉

hushed basalt
#

It's strange that it restores itself when it's been on for an hour or two

#

Before then the 7 segment display is all distorted and it doesn't finish it's vacuum cycle it just keeps pumping forever

#

Was expensive but it's totally worth it

rare condor
#

yeah those issues are painful to figure out

hushed basalt
#

I can vacuum curries and stews and deep freeze them for years

#

I should hassle polyscience to send me a replacement controller but they'll be like "Just send it back"

#

Nvm it weighs like 40kg

rare condor
#

lol last time I used one was for solar car project, vaccum sealed the plastic mould for the egg to sit in

hushed basalt
#

Big bertha

#

If you spill anything it runs down inside

rare condor
#

damn thats big

hushed basalt
#

It's great though

#

I wish the lid has a compound hinge design though and not a straight hinge

#

Needs a lot of top clearance to open

#

Also fuck bunnings

#

They're the worst

#

Delayed response

rare condor
#

I used to work there 😅 I tried my best 😛

hushed basalt
#

Always understaffed

#

And shit products

rare condor
#

That's coordinator / manager based, really depends on store.

hushed basalt
#

Kinetic, don't make me laugh. It's bunnings homebrand

rare condor
#

And in house brands like craftright, kinetic etc. are shitty sure.

hushed basalt
#

But they're pretty much all you can get

rare condor
#

Deta can be added to that too

hushed basalt
#

Like quite often it's all they stock is their labels

#

RIP fischer and willow plastics

rare condor
#

true, they have metrics on returns which they use to decide lowest quality supplier within reasonable margins

#

Bunnings mark up was usually 50-70% on small goods like that, the margins were insane

#

and they pushed very heavy pressure on suppliers

hushed basalt
#

Wesfarmers and Woolworths group have too much power

rare condor
#

Well Murdoch Media keeps pushing "News", which is basically ads for Woolworths. Its all tied together. In Aus everything is very anti competitive and influenced by too few.

slender aspen
#

Looking at buying another raspberry pi for HA as my current one is being used for my 3d Printer. Is there a suggestion on the PI 4 w/ 2/4/8gb of ram? Will I get much more improvement with the 8?

rare condor
#

not much, but as always depends how many addons you run, what you want to do with it

#

For reference I run heaps of Addons, MQTT server, many custom addons, zigbee etc.

slender aspen
#

So I'll probably pick up the 4gb version then.

last plaza
#

Why buy 4gb when there is 8GB available? Once you start adding stuff, you’d quickly realize 4gb is not enough.

last dirge
#

anybody seen any good deals on monitors?

last plaza
#

Especially when there is not much price difference

rare condor

really though I have never seen near that much ram usage with HASS?

last plaza

I see them all the time on slick deals .

rare condor
#

its a nice to have, but somewhat excessive?

last plaza
#

Most just for hass. Other stuff that goes with.

rare condor
#

But even with 15 addons no where near that unless you wanted plex or additional serving features or something isn't that a bit much?

last plaza
#

Image processing, cameras, mqtt, database, and a bunch of add-ons.

rare condor
#

Well it depends on usage as always

last plaza
#

Yup. I don’t know the price difference between 4 or 8. It’s been a while since I bought RPi.

rare condor

last plaza

Good point.

rare condor
#

So I try to be reasonable in feedback

base around their requirements

slender aspen
#

It's about $25 more for the 8gb version

rare condor
#

imo thats a fair bit and I would be happy with 4gb

dull chasm
#

your talking pennies on the dollar thou .... i could see if it hundreds of dollars diff

rare condor
#

given price difference

last plaza

It al depends on how the user is planning to use one. I have seen folks don’t think in long term, and then they regret. Been there done that.

rare condor
#

agreed

dull chasm
#

exactly

rare condor
#

But I have also seen the opposite

last plaza
#

True

slender aspen
#

I need to still buy a cable, and z-wave stick, sdcard, and then buy two smart locks for the new house.

rare condor
#

Ok buy 8Gb model

slender aspen
#

Sounds good.

rare condor
#

you seem more savvy user

#

gives more headroom

dull chasm
#

so you are saying i should not buy supercharger that adds 250hp for $3500

slender aspen
#

I've never had so much money and felt so broke at the same time. lol

rare condor
#

And if your buying Zwave stuff you have the $25 in cash anyway 😛

last plaza
#

That’s another key point. If the user is savvy, they will always find ways to use max capacity.

rare condor
#

But I still stand by my statement 8GB is nice to have not requirement and in many cases pose little benefit

last plaza
#

At least you get the peace of mind that you have head room 😝

rare condor

Its different ideology's I guess, I am coming from student mindset.

dull chasm

Hey Will

For some reason, I am not a big fan of that show. Can’t tolerate that woodworker guy.

Ron's hilarious

Hello Jay kiss

Oh my gawd.... 🤪

Yup.

rare condor

Yeah I don't even watch parks and rec and respect Ron Character

slender aspen
#

I'm not going to lie, I hated it when it came out.

unreal orbit
#

Ron is like the best character

slender aspen
#

I ended up binging it and falling in love.

unreal orbit
#

He develops a lot

rare condor
#

I was thinking of watching Futurama

slender aspen
#

DO it @rare condor

last plaza
#

When I run out of other material, I could see myself in watching it.

rare condor
#

Been a few years since I have watched the series

unreal orbit
#

If any of you haven’t seen Future Man I also recommend that

last plaza
#

added.

rare condor
#

seth rogan :/

#

nah

unreal orbit
#

He’s only in it for the last season, and very limited even then

last plaza
#

I like sci-fi.

rare condor
#

any good scifi films, I haven't seen that many

unreal orbit
#

It’s basically a parody of 80s time travel sci-fi

#

There are several good sci-fi films

#

At least

#

4

rare condor
#

lol

#

a single rec will do

unreal orbit
#

Well the classics would be 2001, Star Wars, Terminator, Alien, Back to the Future, but idk which I would recommend the most

slender aspen
#

Arrival is amazing

rare condor
#

Yes

#

such a good movie

clever mortar
#

2001

rare condor
#

I will probably watch Tenet

clever mortar
#

(if you want straight science fiction)

#

Back to the Future for fun

slender aspen
#

Have you seen The Martian?

rare condor
#

yes, super solid movie too but pref'd interstellar for a space movie

unreal orbit
#

The Martian was a bit disappointing having read the book, but that’s almost always the case when a book is the source material I suppose

#

Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick are fun

#

Oh and Chronicle is excellent (unrelated to Riddick universe)

rare condor
#

I really feel bad for saying this but I didn't enjoy 2001 as much as I expected too. i remember everyone in literature class / media class praising it, but to me it was a super amazing film for the time, and amazing piece of cinema. But not my favourite. You can shoot me now.

unreal orbit
#

It needs to be appreciated for what it was at the time, not how it compares to modern movies

last plaza
#

If you have Dolby Atmos, Baraka is awesome to watch. Not a sci-fi.

slender aspen
#

The Chronicles of Riddick is amazing.

rare condor
#

I watched in a Hostel in Beijing and was prepared for a super thought provoking experience. But it just wasn't it for me.

last plaza
#

Sound effects are so good.

rare condor
#

Chronicles of Riddick has Vinny in it right?

#

never seen it

#

But not a fan of vin diesel or f&f

unreal orbit
#

If we’ve moved on to general recommendations then The Grand Budapest Hotel is great

slender aspen
#

Yes it does, but he's good in it.

unreal orbit
#

You don’t have to be a fan of fast and furious to like his other movies lol

rare condor
#

Ok, you have 2 mins to persuade me Grand Budapest or Riddick

#

downloading both now

unreal orbit
#

Grand Budapest

rare condor
#

*iTunes download is happening now. (which I paid for using currency)

clever mortar
#

Get both, watch both 😄

unreal orbit
#

Riddick is fun, Grand Budapest is memorably good

#

Oh and I hope you don’t actually mean the movie “Riddick”

#

Because that was 👎

rare condor
#

wait do I want pitch black that was first one?

#

or cronicals?

unreal orbit
#

Pitch Black is first

#

Then Chronicles

rare condor
#

which is better and do I need to watch both?

unreal orbit
#

Hmm, we’ll Pitch Black is more of a horror movie

#

But with sci-fi

#

Chronicles is pretty much all sci-fi

rare condor
#

interesting

clever mortar
#

But, it does set the framework for Chronicles

unreal orbit
#

It’s not necessary but it will help

rare condor
#

ok can I watch chronicles and go back to pitch black if I like it or is that doing a disservice

unreal orbit
#

If you’re gonna watch both then do them in order

#

You’ll get a better experience

rare condor
#

Ok I hope I like the first one then 😛

unreal orbit
#

Just keep in mind they are very different movies

#

Even if the stories are sequential

#

Man now I want to rewatch them

rare condor
#

SHould I bother with UHD Blu Ray or 1080p, does it benefit from it?

#

Screenshot of iTunes 👍👍

scenic radish
#

I've already been judged by some people in my family for wearing a mask

#

Sorry to hear that btw

clever mortar
#

I've not been judged by family, yet, but the only ones we talk to are those that have a clue

#

Been judged by plenty of random strangers

scenic radish
#

Outside without a mask is ok with social distancing, from what I understand

#

Even a little closer is acceptable I believe

clever mortar
#

Apparently the mask traps the "carbon-monoxide" we exhale, and it's really about killing us 🤔

scenic radish
#

Even a little closer is acceptable I believe

last plaza
#

I guess there are two parts of carbon-monoxide’s in one carbon dioxide that we exhale 😝

Can I use SmartIR custom component to add a nodemcu WiFi IR transmitter?

I read that it supports ESP Home, but can I use tasmota instead?

hollow bobcat

Can I ask for other home automation discord servers in here?

#

I'm trying to find info about doing a whole home sound system that I can control by room

last plaza

Way too much money for ceiling speakers.

I'll search around on a nice smart home audio setup

Does this annoy you @rare condor

"low voltage"

@forest edge still alive. 😜
@tidal bronze well that's good. let us know if you grow a third nipple in the next few days

wet pilot

Too much wubwub?

rare condor
#

Tbh ELV annoys me more - the realative nature of it. Low voltage in my mind should mean ELV, the use of extra, Super mega etc. Is frustrating. HV should be anything dangerous, anything higher should be 'x' kV and defined as such. My rational for this is people have been hurt from interpretating low voltage as safe in the wrong contexts.

hushed mist
#

Hey all! So I’m planning my new (first ever) system and I’m making myself a little crazy about zwave/zigbee

#

Is it easier for a newbie like me to use ST hub? (Newbie to HA; I’ve been a .net dev for 20yrs...)

scenic radish
#

Don't

#

The integration is cloud based

hushed mist
#

Does that mean it’s not secure, or it’s delayed when sending commands from HA?

scenic radish
#

Not as reliable as a local solution like a USB stick

hushed mist
#

Any issue with using two separate sticks, one for each tech?

scenic radish
#

Not at all

hushed mist
#

Ok so conbee2 seems to be the popular one, I’ll get that, and whatever is recommended for the other. And what about range? I’ve read that for some devices you need to be really close to pair. If my pi is upstairs and I need to pair to my lock, how does that work?
