Damn murica
this is an outrage. I demand free music.

i would never leave you atx
i saw cheerwine at jewel the other day and thought of you 😉
Lol
ah why's that?
They have even more retailers of cheerwine
We have more offices there related to my interests
ah there ya go
I'm going to be speaking with a smooth Southern accent when I leave
Sorry I couldn't come meet you, btw.
No worries, I'm fully independent 😛

Where is the best place to ask questions about the deconz hass.io addon?
Seems to have stopped working for me 😦
#zigbee-archived or #330990055533576204 if it's add-on specific
Thanks. I think it is addon specific, so I'll head to #330990055533576204 first!
We should get a bot that directs user to random channels , just to anger the Dog @clever mortar
Tinkerer is away for 53m 47s with a message :point_right: Stupidity isn't punishable by death. If it was, there would be a hell of a population drop.
or directs everyone to #613790866523422723
actually, we need a bot that specifically detects when someone says hassio in docker and directs them there

I almost went to #330990055533576204 directly, but being under "installation method" it made me think it was about getting started/installing. I done that bit donkeys ago 🙂
Anyway, I opened a bug for my thing. So I guess the discussion can be async now
#330990055533576204 is both for the installation method and hassio add-ons
you can check the channel topics for more info
Good point, I didn't think to read that. I don't use discord very often
i just updated my HA and boy am i excited about the the front end
seems like a nice step forward
@clear ferry any such bot should direct folks to a random wrong channel, then edit the message a minute or two later to have the right channel in it
If you're gonna cause confusion, do it right 😛
@scenic radish DOIT

@clever mortar you... are an evil genius
Why.... thank you 😄
so sometimes at work i line up a few of those french vanilla creamers and down each of them individually
i call them my work shots
DAE??
i of course go around the corner as i take them to hide my shame
I had to Google it
It sounded a obscene
It was not
Pop the lid on this non-dairy creamer for classic vanilla taste that's perfect anytime.

like, 1 oz (30 ml) each
I thought I was weird for eating pretzel sticks individually and in roughly 10 bites each
little tiny nibbles?
Aye
pffh weirdo
Yes, other people chewing, especially me, since my head is like a reverberation chamber
Anything I eat can be heard in the next room
lol
i hate open-mouth chewing with a passion, but i don't care about non-animal-like chewing
I recommend changing the channel topic of #330944238910963714 to For asking questions unrelated to Home Assistant and getting redirected to the proper channel
seems to be what it's used most for anyway
😂
🤣
@unreal orbit can you help me diagnose the fault with my starter motor
If I hold the key turned it just goes clickclickclick
hit it with a hammer
(i'm not joking)
if it works, it should work a few times but you should replace the starter
You sure it's your starter and not your battery?
But yeah when my starter was going, hitting it with a wrench would temporarily make it work. It didn't make a clicking sound though. In fact it made no noise at all
i had the same problem not long ago. all i ever did was i turned the key fast in repeat until it start. after some time, that method somehow solved the problem.
btw @hushed basalt , regarding blocking device from router, how do i know if i have successfully blocked it? its destination ip is now my router ip address. is that how its supposed to work? am using asus router
@scenic radish @wet pilot it's a jokkkkkeeeeeee
Oh. A human joke? 🤖
Random-ass, completely unrelated to Home Asssistant in any way, shape, or form question - but... Anyone know if it's possible to force certain apps on Android to be exempt from Adaptive Battery optimization?
@thick dragon search your settings for optimise battery
Ohh, fantastic! Thanks bud. Wish they'd have a link to that from the Adaptive Battery screen.
Oy telco I know you probably dont go on serverbuilds discord much anymore but did you see that JDM doxed some kid
Nah I didnt
JDM is a jerk
@thick dragon android settings are a nightmare for navigation
I pretty much use search exclusively to find anything
What happened @ocean mirage
Yeah hes always been a jerk, and he sucks others into being jerks too
someone joined and was just being lolrandom. annoying but harmless. JDM found his twitter (we assume through his forum email) and posted it in public channel
had his full name
haha
Me and at least two other people have stopped being his patreons
a drop in the sea but I cant support that shit
I wouldn't trust any affliate recommendations from them anyways
I have no doubt he'd push crap if he got that sweet $$
oh absolutely
basically it blew up for the anniversary build, which had an amazing motherboard that they found and pushed
worked out well for everyone
and since then has just been riding the gravy train
Doing some work but nothing that useful
I know one of the boards he was pushing were just untested salvages or RMAs even
Can't remember which
I stopped watching that sub since it wasn't worth it for me to get any of those 200w nominal systems
yeah they do not have you in mind for the builds lol
My optiplexes are like 10w idle each :D
oh also I am pretty sure he is in someone affiliated with Sargon of Akkad, which is big yikes
if you know who that is
could be
Youtube conspiracy theorist and misogynist. Pushes some wild idea
he also tried to run for UKIP
Zzzzzz
psh sleep is for the weak
Moved into my new home, finally got Internet now but can't find where the bloody hell I packed my HA host - so can't even set up my home -_-
womp
That would have been embarrassing for me two months ago
Since my ha host was inside a blade enclosure, in a 42u rack
Not likely as it was my precious so I would probably sit next to it the whole trip
Haha, mine is just an old laptop. I've found the power brick for it, just not the damn laptop itself.
Still not as tiny as people with a raspberry pi 😂
i have mine on a box made with a spare i5 that's running all my other docker stuff
Or that one nutcase out there that has managed to run ha to some extent on a nodemcu
might do a ryzen build at some point for more cores
With hassio in docker
😂 😂
I run it on my miniitx host, but I should maybe migrate it to my freenas at some point
But meh
I wonder when Norwegian journalists will screw up, because there has been a lot of kjedekollisjon the last few weeks, but they have piss poor grammar usually, and you just have to add a single letter for it to be obscene
@wet pilot https://www.mini-itx.com/
Love these guys
You unplug your hosts?
I take a generator with me when I move
And keep my UPS fed
Only filfthy casuals have downtime
Run away from the bushfiiiiiahs
That vulnerability is certainly interesting with the laser, could provide interesting problems with Teslas, Smart Locks, etc. I think it will get abused, attackers are already attacking keyless entry so I wouldn't think this attack is any more complicated than that
I can see some solutions though (3d printed speaker grate, disable commands when authorized people aren't home)
I'm a big fan of electric strikes
Looks like a normal door. And if you need an external reader you can hide it in a doorbell
I think "smart" locks are a dare
Put a door closer on it and then you have a very simple reliable system
If the door is closed, you know it's locked
And the door will always close itself
How much force could such an electric strike have? I'm not familiar with those.
@clear ferry what's wrong with people who use a raspberry pi for home assistant? hmm? 🤔 🤔 🤔
🍒
I have a schlage connect zwave lock on my front door right now but every couple months when I have to swap the batteries i consider looking into an electric strike and some kind of keypad/fob reader
yeah i saw that, but it doesn't have a manual keypad yet that I saw 😦
i'd still want a manual keypad in case someone forgot their fob or if we needed to give someone access without being able to get a fob to them
well, better get ready for my 8 hour drive home 🤣
Have fun
Is the install-statistics publicly available somewhere?
What do you mean?
Hi. I need some advice=)
I want to replace my regular thermostat (just a cheap one that has a schedule with temperatures).
And I want to have a separate heat controller in each room.
And of course I want to connect it to my HA.
And I can't decide. There are to many options out there.
Option 1) Take any zwave thermostat. And controllers like the one from Fibaro. And connect all of this to HA.
Option 2) Instead of a thermostat to use some other actor connected on the 2 wires from the heater.
Option 3) A full system like the Honeywell evohome and connect HA to it's cloud (I've seen there is a component already)
Option 1 and 2 will probably be cheaper (but must not). But I will have to deal a lot with implementing it.
Has anybody already did something like this and can share the experience? Thx in advance.
There is option 4 (to build the controllers with Wemos d1 mini or NodeMCU). This would save money, but I don't have enough free time to go this way=)
@midnight adder no
has anyone here ever tried an hdmi/display port dummy plug to emulate a connected monitor and run headless systems ?
yes and no, they would not be correct
I wonder what usecase that would be?
Spying
Huh?
lul, nah, the "headless" and hdmi adapter thing
Sounds like a Windows method of 1990 to me
So I rather ask before 😛
So I guess the fossil collider has a bad backlight but I don't think that's a deal breaker for me. Gonna wait until Black Friday for a potential deal and try it out

Always mad!

@low harness I think I'm missing something
Unless it's that all the suggestions are Hass related lol
If so, it's probably the same on my end
All automatic chrome favourites but two are hass related, and the first suggestion when I type a single character into the search bar is home assistant on github.
Yeah pretty sure mine are similar lol
It isn't too much unless you type Por... And it returns ha hits @scenic radish

I'm sure some of you have already seen this. But still too good not to share
I know it's satire but I also realize it's very possible it actually happened
And that makes my jimmies become rustled
Yup. I'm glad I never have had to work in IT support or Help Desk. There are just some people that should not have a computer
Worst i have to deal with is just family stuff
Some? Make that 80% of the folks calling inn...
What I can't seem to figure out is the people who have a corporate email account and use it as there only email account
For some that is their only account, they do not have the knowledge to even create a free account with provider X
But provider X will steal the emails I get about male enhancement pills and sell them to corporations!
And? you think corperations don't do that?
Corporations would never do anything nefarious. They have my best interest at heart
Must be nice living in your world 😄
Lol. That's very true. We had a incident a couple years ago, right around Thanksgiving when someone who I know does that, opened one of those greeting card emails and it was malware. Thankfully it didnt get past the corporate severs
But I did hear that our it people (we only have 2) put in about 80 hrs over that weekend
They should instead have spent 1/4 of that before it happend looking at premissions/firewall rules/mail filter%screening/recoveryplans
oh.. and internal security awareness campaings
I'm sure they did. And we do that regularly especially with the phishing scams. Because people don't look at the actual address..
wait.. you can look at the address?
Or they don't look at where the link they're clicking actually goes
says "important paycheck document" must....click....now...
Hello IT.....
I just.... Stay silent every cyber security month, because if people don't understand the course we have to take mandatory every year.... They shouldn't be working in our company...
Your company is based around techonlogy so that make sense.
But back when you managed our schools way up north.. well.. I guess that is different 😛
Well, we didn't have much issues with virus or malware really
Just that the student's broke the windows installs
Or the harddrives died
That's mostly what i imagine our day to day stuff is... were in manufacturing but have 17 locations that our it department handles. My company- www.richind.com
our company sends out fake phishing emails to see how many people click on them and to educate people to not click on things they don't recognize
the results have been... unsettling
Not surprising... I'm guessing that maybe 70% clicked on them?
Lol.
What? Did anyone say 'high available'?

Waiting for tmrw, "I actually wanted to ask that yesterday but you were down I think..."
replace "ha community" with "reddit"
😂
well that is implied...
because of the implication
I used to be on reddit for hours everyday. Luckily I kicked that addiction. Now I'm on discord all day 💉
lol
looks like the hamsters got their naps... it's back.
I find Reddit a pretty informative portal, like for the RDR2 issues currently to lookup what users the last 3 hours said. None of them would use a specific forum for that nowadays
But I would probably not make that my community homebase to look at every day for hours
It definitely has its uses. You just have to be aware when a useful tool becomes an addiction
Discord cough
That would fall into the same category, I agree
I wonder what this Teamspeak 4 is going to be about
Wonder tho if it is going to be a Discord Alternative

@clever mortar thanks for recomending sipgate, one thing i have been supprised at is the cost of international calling compared to my ISP
Can't remember the last year I made an international call in...
Other than at work anyway
I dont intend to, im just supprised at how cheap it is
😄
I need a good sip trunk for western australia
All the sip providers in Aus are like on the east coast
For some reason they don't seem to care that having a sip gateway 4000km and 12 hops away isn't good.
I have messed around with this stuff for ages on the bench but only just now have HA working in "prod" and the WAF is very high! Thanks to everyone who wrote this stuff 😄
switch control via zigbee2mqtt, sprinklers controlled via a 4 channel relay board running esphome
I am feeling very smug atm. Spent the better part of a week to get to this point, but I managed to get all 4 major package carriers into Home Assistant without web scraping or email while still using data provided directly from the carriers!
Instead, I have a mobile internet dongle in an rpi parsing the SMS messages sent from the carriers to the SIM card. 😂
$10 a month all told to pull that off. Works better than the UPS or USPS integration ever did.
I went a step further though and used AWS Lambda and DynamoDB as a stateful backend and paired it into HA via a custom integration
once I iron out UPS and Amazon's messages I'll write up a personal blog post and toss all the code online.
That'll be an interesting read
even more so if I explain how I broke my cellular provider's customer support and tech support explaining this lol
How did a fly get in my screen
@slow acorn you are such a nerd, in the most loving way. ; ]]
Can confirm lol
@slow acorn is there any provider that lets you have a virtual mobile number to receive SMS
SMS to sqs would be nice
https://www.twilio.com/ is what I use. It's a paid service pretty cheap
Look for the programable sms
Aws pinpoint?
i keep forgetting that that is still a thing
kinda surprising that google hasn't killed it yet
Give it time
i gave up google voice when i switched to project FI
they forced me to port my number in
I use it all the time
For people/services that I don't want having my real number
When I was still in the dating world it was a godsend
Lotta crazies out there
I wish it was in Australia
Google Voice? Sounds like a murica only thing

Meh, so few triple display mini pcs on AliExpress
You could use DisplayLink if you get desperate
My Dell laptop would do two extra displays via DP, too
Might work, but I would prefer something with native three displays
Can't think of anything interesting to buy for 11.11... Running out of things to automate
Was going to buy a Xiaomi 9T but banggood ran out of stock and now the discount code is no longer working 😦
lol
I'm waiting for a good phone from Xiaomi other than the Black Shark 2
But the Asus ROG one looks so good too 😛
Anyone knows when Xiaomi will release new phones?
@clear ferry displayport daisy chaining is the dope
Sure, when all the devices have dp and the source supports it 😛
i finally set up my HA directory as a git repo
and learned how to properly use git
today is a good day
why do they not have winter tires on in NORWAY Ludeeus?
do you guys have a law requiring it?
yes
So people just ignore it so they can kill themselves and/or others. Interesting.
Correct
The first days/weeks of snowing is interresting...
Every fucking year..
Trains stops, busses have issues, folks "forget" that the road get icy.....
I just don't understand why when every lorry has to stop at the border to check the cargo that there is no law in place to check their tires too, because 60% of all accidents in winter are lorrys from Europe
Driving on slick summer tires
Because we can
I put on the winter tires last week, just in case. Expecting snow in February.
hi
Yeah. That’s more wet than cold.
I might be coming back though @low harness the customer has a lot of stuff needed doing
Good afternoon all
Long time no speak. It’s been about a year since my last attempt at HA
What’s new? 😁
TLDR; everything
😄
HA cloud had just been introduced
If I was getting into HA right now. RIGHT NOW. What do I need to know?
I have a RPi 3 B and a Z-Wave stick, but very little actual equipment other than a smattering of wifi-only IoT jazz
how to read documentation
I'm good at that @light trout , but the docs don't really do strategy, unless there are new docs since I last checked
I suppose I'm thinking about the meta, if HA was a card game
It would be filled with just jokers
I thought I read somewhere that Z-Wave is floundering a bit and Zigbee/proprietary wifi stuff is in the ascendancy, for example
😄
or all Ace ♠
The #zigbee-archived and/or #zwave-archived channels whould probably have some insight on that.
Looks like there is somone hanging out in the vocie channel ATM, maybe they could offer some insights as well
👍 thanks
Z-Wave isn't exactly floundering 😉
😛
I work on the theory that anything releasing new generations of a technology isn't dead yet
Whether it'll still be alive in a year... well, who knows 🤷
Question: is Z-Wave still around a year from now?
Answer: Prospect Good
Buy stocks now! 💸
@hushed basalt @sacred carbon fun fact, Twilio doesn't support receiving SMS short code messages. I tried this first, but got nowhere, thus the solution I have now.
I call it directly through node-red. direct api call
Add the node-red-node-twilio to node-red
done. (tm)(copyright)(1987)
yeah, but for package notifications, it doesn't work. 😛
It should, just build out the logic from your sensor.
lol
er. trigger whatever you are using.
let me explain real fast
SMS messages from USPS come from 28777 This is an SMS Short Code, and while they work going to a proper SIM card, they don't work going to Twilio. https://support.twilio.com/hc/en-us/articles/223181668-Can-Twilio-numbers-receive-SMS-from-a-short-code-
you capture that sms coming in now right?
in to HA?
(at least I think I saw you did)
have HA take that. (sensor, trigger) pass it off to node-red to twilio
a Mobile Broadband datastick (USB Modem)
I'm passing it from the raw data on the stick to AWS Lambda via POSTing to an AWS API Gateway endpoint. Sensor data persistence is handled via a DynamoDB table. A Custom package component queries the API Gateway via a GET endpoint. This calls another lambda that returns the non-delivered packages and count in an HA state object that can be inserted into the Sensor's state 😄
Oh hey @clever mortar It might actually have been your blog that gave me that idea 🙃
So it looks and feels like calling a real remote API, just that you control the data end to end.
if you are doing all that api call stuff, you can can do it real easy in node-red.
It also certainly beats the email script that everyone and their brother has tweaked to hell and back which will break once the HTML markup changes in those emails
or create an endpoint in node-red that receives that api data, and update ha with it...
I mean, I could. Or I can just use my AWS free tier for all these services and never cost a dime
well, outside the cost of the cellular SMS
I sumbled upon node-red and omg man, powerful powerful stuff esp when you want to interact with outside service/api's
run it on another pi then lol
it runs on a shoe string
API Gateway's free tier more than covers the request counts on a month. lambda requires a VERY long runtime, a lot of RAM, or a ton of calls, to make it cost anything more than $0.01
so how you getting it off the stick currently? just a shell script?
and you get 5 reads and 5 writes a second on a dynamodb table for free
probably can hook up the dynamodb up to the node-red as well.
yeah, atm it's a script. This modem's AT command support is... lacking.
but, if you find a modem that does support AT antics via USB Serial.... gammu-smsd's RunOnReceive is the way to go
so easy way, create a http listener in node red, have that script just call that listener, kick off the work flow in node-red
To be fair... I work for AWS lol so obviously I'm going to use that
All the code for this will be on GitHub, so anyone is free to fork, PR, etc
leverage that power g
problem with aws it doesn't natively chat with other services. give node red a glance. I think you would enjoy it.
but I don't NEED it to chat with other services
for this little application, it would be perfect.
script -> node-red's flow which can trigger lots of stuff.
and by chat, I mean use others api's
def _update(self):
data = '{"carrier": "%s"}' %(self._carrier)
response = requests.get('removed', data=data)
json = response.json()
self._state = json["data"]["state"]
self._attributes = {ATTR_ATTRIBUTION: "Information provided by a cellular modem and AWS magic"}
self._attributes.update(json["data"]["attributes"])
return```
HA can just call my API Gateway
which will provide state lol
oh... node red is like... visual drag and drop code blocks lol
yeah, I'll stick to having complete control over the code I run lol
you can get nutty with coding in node-red, it just takes care of that middle layer that no one wants to code up... but each to their own. I get it.
Amazon says I am a "Software Development Engineer"... The subsidiary I work for calls me an "SRE". I like writing my own code and having operational control over it 😄
sure. I used boto3 here lol
you just want to know all the code that is running, I get that.
I just didn't mind connecting all the things. It's already done minus some regex for the two carriers I haven't had a shipment from since I started this.
switching providers is also a TON more work when it's not needed
but the general idea is, the code will be Apache 2.0 licensed (matching HA's licensing) so everyone will be free to do with it what they want
Plus, someone, somewhere will tell me how shit my code is for x, y, or z reason. Which, they are free to fix it if they are so inclined.
are someone using the symfonisk remote as a dimmer?
#zigbee-archived folks may be
Symfonisk remote?
Volume control
The buttons on the speaker itself?
Oh, I haven't seen that at all, didn't even show up when I looked at their page
I'm probably just blind
Have you guys noticed that every appliance is either a heater, a motor, or both?
yup

All motors are heaters
But not all heaters are motors
Tell that to Robert Brown.
Neil Young - Journeys was a great DVD
@clear ferry What AP do you use?
I ran HP 420 for years, then some Cisco 1200 for a few years and moved over to msm310 and later msm466
But after I stopped using vlans for stuff I bought some cheap meshable Linksys ones that supported both mesh and bridge at the same time
But I have a few msm466 still in my lab, and 25 of them in boxes still
Unifis APs are pretty good tbh
I'm sure their routers and switches are hot garbage though
I worry about all these mesh kits
Suburban spectrum is going to get destroyed
Living in the city is for shitkids anyway 🤣
long live the countryside
I don't have any issues with either wifi coverage or zigbee coverage, unlike poor @unreal orbit
I have them all hardwired, but the meshing gives me the possibility to actually be connected to two of the linksys' at the same time for aggregated throughput
which is nice when I'm stuck inbetween two of them without very good coverage from either
For all those UHD bluray remuxes you need to watch on your phone in 8x realtime :D
🤣
Have you tried having a smaller house
no thank you, like the neighbour with 3 kids and usually two relatives living with him
in 120m2 🤢
yeah, I have 255m2 and I want something bigger still
Fucking boomer
@hushed basalt I really like there edgerouters and switches can't fault them, they work well and are updated often, plus linux base so can always install apt packages.
But I'm genZ @ocean mirage 😂
Boomer is a state of mind. I know you are really the silent generation
@clear ferry Am i missing /s or legit gen z?
Doubt
Damn right you are
But I also want a Audi A8L W12, does that make me a boomer?
I only had the A8L V6, so double what I had!
Yes
Damn right we are
Yuck
I was born 97. I find most people here are mid twenties from what I have seen
Rurally it makes more sense I guess but I can’t imagine using all that space
I’d not fill it
You need space to store all your random useless IOT gear. 😛
I would love a workshop though
Like a proper lab, woodworking station etc.
@clever mortar, again? how was the first run
Less fun than the second
I mean, it was still fun, but... I know more now, and can afford to do things 😛
I would say the average house size in Norway is probably above 300sqm
Let's see if I can find some number
The average UK home - including older and new-build properties is 85 sq m
Yeah, I'd guess that a typical house is in the region of 100 to 120 sqm here
200 sqm is a large house here
In 2010 the average was 120
But that is because of Oslo and Bergen probably, while I grew up in the north noone had anything less than 200sqm
Yeah, but that's also the nature of having space to build in (even if it isn't necessarily "prime real estate")
Slowsnow https://imgur.com/gallery/RXaUWIt
Fixed my Grafana install. Lots of pretty graphs 😄
I need to get into that too
Feeding it lots of metrics with Prometheus 🙂
Tru
I'm doing a home assistant install on a 500 square meter house right now and it's my first install and I got to say guys y'all are getting me through.

We're sorry for your loss:
- of sanity
- of spare time
- of spare cash
Ooooh, you're doing this for somebody else... scary/fun times 😄
There are generally cheaper options, but yeah, none of this is cheap
I think there's a lot of benefit that's being small
I was working in a customer house that had smart tech from 10 years ago
Well she ended up going with a window blind that is not compatible with any kind of machine
Probably $800,000 of hardware, but it works so good
That's kind of how I stumbled into this thing, everyone else was bidding control4 and it was like a gazillion dollars
We are talking about being able to pause and start video from any part of the house and resume it wherever you go, and speakers behind walls that are fine tuned to play through the wall drapings
This is mostly crestron and a few other controller brands
Yeah that sounds like control for to me and it's still out there. but it's like the difference between a gas and electric vehicle. the electric stuff is costly because it's new the gas stuff is costly because there's a shitload of things that need to be interconnected together for it to work.
*Control4
In fact that was the worst part of the install, getting the cable boxes to play in each TV
Here there was 4 hd tuners in the main TV rack, plus a few Dolby amps, streaming around the house was only 1080, because 10 years ago, but upgrading to 4k on all streams, was 25 TVs if my counting was right
Plus a cinema with support for all major formats of both video and audio
And everything was passing through crestron devices as far as I could see
Some x425 or something for all light controls
Twinkly on sale in Norway for singles day
Sounds about twice as large, so at least four times as complicated as what I'm trying to do with knock-off brands and what not today. But for example of a 4K Matrix audio visual distribution system I would think today would cost $35,000 in hardware components to do what you're saying, before whatever is required to patch everything together
Yeah, and this was 10+ years ago 😛
Write my price was based off of knockoffs not the real thing
Smart TVs make alot of that stuff obsolete
But there are still nuances. Sonos doesn't support the best sound formats. Cable TV is specifically unfriendly. Unifi protect lacks an API. Abode will directly register smoke detectors but not pass through to HA.
To get that $800k experience it still takes either that solution or a lot of careful product selection and programming
anyone into cooking ?
Generally just simple things
Grilled meat, rice or pasta, and a vegetable
I do make some pretty good fried breaded chicken from scratch though
I usually end up cooking myself, when I solder
I too have seen the r/techsupportgore posts 😉
Yeah, that's a 3rd degree burn
Is she soldering the battery too
It *is+ a stock photo 🙂
Hello all, I am very new to HA, I am looking for a private tutor that would like to help me get up to speed on HA and what it's capability, I am very well versed in hardware and capable to get in trouble easily. I don't have a personal IT friend that I could ask questions. I will compensate you for your time. My project involve getting HA installed in a home/shop building. Thanks!
tbh i don't think you'll find someone to do that, but i guess you never know. the docs are helpful and if you still don't understand something after reading the docs and trying something, then people here or on the forum can help
Now i want snow too
You can't have ours!
plenty of snow on the ground but the forecasts are getting dangerously close to zero Celsius which is going to suck
it turns it into this awful liquid form that ruins lives - and shoes
I sort of assumed that for there to be a lot of snow it would be below freezing
it does create a layer of ice at first
air melts the snow and then the rest of the snow freezes it
Does not have to be below zero for it to be much snow, but it helps
I've been to Norway and the amount of snow you guys get is bonkers.. We get probably 10% of that
It's not that much, at least not near the capitol, but the folks here does not know how to cope with it...
So who else is triggered by Diablo 4 ?
it was Lofoten we visited when I was a kid
Snow snow https://imgur.com/gallery/0PwPGO5
We had so much snow the first winter here @light trout that I actually had to shovel every day
@ocean mirage the snow is formed at higher altitudes
So afaik it doesn't need to be below zero at ground level for snow to form
Yeah I get that - its even snowed here, but I assumed it'd disappear quickly otherwise
Jesus the man it is snowing
Must have come 20-25cm just today so far
And it is still pouring down
😮
Any recommendations for smart light with no hub, reasonable price and can be dimmed quite low as well as colour depth being pretty decent?
Yeelight works fine for me
Cheers, I'll look into it. They do both E27 and B22 I take it?
I only know E sockets, we aren't from the land down under
Don't pass me that Vegemite sandwich
🤢 😛
Anybody seen any good deals on AliExpress today though?
I'm not the land down under either, I'm UK and we use both E27 and B22, we aren't a normal bunch at times
We have that here to, my exterior lights is b22
Nope, infact my philips hue lights here are B22
I'd say you'd have to break your no hub rule and go hue with a cc2531

Is there a Node-Red discord channel?
Yes @willow dragon it is located at #node-red-archived under related
You mean server @willow dragon ?
@long wedge you definitely need a Hub, the question is just how generic. Like for Xiaomi you don't need the Xiaomi Hub, but the products use Zigbee and therefor you could use a Conbee2 as a universal hub. That yet runs for me Ikea TradFri and Xiaomi sensors.
As well as for the lamp you have been a bit unspecific, for bulbs I would use the Yeelights RGB/W Bulb and for the overhead lights I'm tinkering the most with the Xiaomi Yeelight JIAOYUE 650 Starry. That has Starry light, Moonlight and normal RGBW as far I know...
Time to plow
Deutschland über alles ich verstehe!
This what were dealing with today...
You call that snow @clear mirage ? 😛
@strange vapor yeah, that was a normal week for me when I lived north
@clear ferry lol first one of the season... were expecting 3-5" tonight. The fun part is dealing with the people who forget how to drive in it.
nice. Yea i know ill have to do some shoveling when i go home at lunch. my driveway is uphill and my car doesnt like going up it in this weather.
Hates going uphill? Is your car Danish?
lol no its actually a 2014 Impala. just doesnt like it when theres snow
Lol muricans cars
I've driven German cars mostly the last 20 years, even going uphill slalom tracks 😛
lol the problem with the germans... they over engineer everything.. I've had this car for almost 7 years now. only 80,000 mi on it.
I drive 24k miles per year 😛
is that kilometers or miles 😉
Miles as in 24000 of them
ah. thats a lot of driving.
i must have the world's best front brake pads because i have over 60000 miles (96500 km) on them and they're still at 9 mm...
my car does like to engine brake, so i'm sure that's part of it
On modern German cars the pads are used constantly to keep the discs dry during wet weather, so they usually have only lasted 40k km for me
@clear ferry The last time there was snow in Ireland, the only reason I wasn't snowed in was that I live in Horse Country, and the army were bought in to clear the road to where the main horse feed supplier is.
😂
Other than that, there was a few feet of snow on the road, and we Irish don't understand what to do with tha!
I'm very close to The Curragh, and funnily enough, it didn't get too much snow. All the snow was blown off it and formed snow drifts against people's houses in Kildare town 😄
you're gonna trigger atx by saying "feet" instead of "meters" 😉

or is it "metres"?
Yea i havent done anything on my brakes in 80K althought i think i might due soon. @strange vapor sounds like what happens in the southern states. They get a dusting and everything comes to standstill.
@scenic radish Only this year that I got a car that gave me my speed in km/h rather than mph 😄
@scenic radish reminds me of this https://youtu.be/jNqfVI09qmo
Obi wan buys himself a ride..
@scenic radish It's not too surprising. Until recently, if you wanted a second hand car with a decent spec in Ireland, you imported from the UK.
"how much is this ship?" lmao
My last car, a Passat, had a spec that they simply never sold here 😦
@strange vapor I was mindficked the year I rented a car in the Republic and drove to Northern, and the rental only had kmh, and northern only has miles
I remember when they changed the speed signed from imperial to metric here. It was done over the course of month, and it was a mindfuck.
Especially if driving through a town and you had someone sticking to 30kph just in case
(30mph areas went to 50kph)
@scenic radish If you want a real good example of a traffic changeover: http://realscandinavia.com/this-day-in-history-swedish-traffic-switches-sides-september-3-1967/
pulled over
"do you know how fast you were going?"
"I KNOW NOTHING"
"I know Nothing!! Nothing! I wasn't even driving!
a couple years ago i was going over to canada and when i crossed the border i just went int my setting and switched from imperial to metric.
i have analog gauges so i'd have to squint at the tiny km/h numbers
@strange vapor you will never best the Swedes anyway
They drove in the left with right hand drive cars for years
Then just switched at 1200 on a Monday
@strange vapor i can't even imagine switching from imperial to metric, much less switching sides of the damn road
I didn't make this choice.
But I love it 😛
Metric makes way more sense, I'd rather use that
Remember to vote metric at the next general election @scenic radish
@scenic radish I regularly switch the side of the road I drive on when I head to the US or EU Continent.
at this point i don't even know how i'd learn metric. all i know is that 1 ounce is about 30 mL
0 C is freezing, 10 is cool, 20 is warm, 30 is hot
i am aware
As soon as you have to deal with Time and Date progmatically, the M/D/Y thing is a pain.
well yeah
some software i use at work expresses months as 201911 which is brilliant because as a number you can directly compare months as greater than or less than
same with 20191111
At work we force ISO 8601 for every date.
although in SQL i still have to use BETWEEN with the date strings
because the tables don't have an ISO 8601 date field
not exactly a big deal but still
at work when we get prints in metric, i jsut divide by 25.4
@scenic radish We generally use ISO 8601 for input, but store as a UTC timestamp.
ah i suppose that makes sense
also all this typing in yaml makes me want to use the same spacing in SSMS lol
the best part is when we get prints in that are in spanish or german.
Easier as well to convert for clients, especially when we have clients spotted all over the globe.
oh UTC time you mean?
yeah just add/subtract the modifier (or whatever it's called) for your region
lol
Gorillaz has a lot of cool bass lines
Meh, I need to call Amazon
My kindle is connected to a email I no longer have, and I have a good collection of books there
Phone is obviously the only choice to fix it as far as I can see
Finally
It's about time
I will say though, the impossible Whopper is surprisingly good
That's burger King, or hungry Jack's for some
Cheerwine
that can't be possible
heh

You know the hassle when you leech a 260GB series with 1MB/s
Too all the veterans here. Thank you for your service.

Where can I go to get help with the WireGuard addon?
#330990055533576204 would be a good place to start
Thanks, I wasn't sure if that was appropriate or not.
liek if u cry everytiem
I think I just had a lucky escape with parking. Was in a rush this morning and forgot to pay on my phone while running to the train. Parking was tight enough that I was within inches of the cars either side.
Realised when getting on the train home I'd forgotten 😦
Got to the station, and it looks very much like the guy clamping went for easier targets as he was at the more open side of the station unclamping people 🙂
damn, they put a boot on your car if you don't pay for parking? we just get a ticket
Yup!
so they force you to park there illegally even longer? that makes sense lol
Here at the train station you get a please don't do that sticker at most
Mind you, we also don't pay 😛
The company running the parking are a shower of arreholes who do everything they can to punish you if you screw up once. They force you to install an app to pay, but won't do nice things like send a notification if your parking is running out..
The concept of having to pay for parking at the train station... wouldn't survive up here 😄
@strange vapor's assigns static IPs
@clever mortar Unfortunately survives very well here, and you can guess how much of the parking fee goes into upgrading facilities :/
Yeah
I've a colleague who pays more for parking than I do for my train journey
That's... just broken
It's not quite that bad here.
Stations along the commuter lines are beginning to fill up fast in the morning though, which is causing knock on problem with people abandoning cars in surrounding housing estates.
Too expensive to live in Dublin, so the commuter towns are filling up!
Yeah, I used to live somewhere like that - if you weren't at the station by 06:30... you're not getting parked, so all the surrounding streets end up residents only (and costing the residents)
Next village over they instituted max 2 hour parking outside the train station. Took bringing in tow trucks to removing cars a couple of days before people copped on that they were serious.
Now there's a cottage industry with people who have a spare driveway space during the day 😄
Everybody wins 👍
To be fair, it was needed. Local businesses were screwed as no one could park there during the day.
https://community.home-assistant.io/t/twilio-str-object-has-no-attribute-body-error-message/141190 So I was searching and found someone with this same issue. I know how to "make it not throw the error" but im not confident that's the right choice (maybe twilio is sending bad webhook data?) and wanted to make some kind of "Comment" on the code in github https://github.com/home-assistant/home-assistant/blob/dev/homeassistant/components/cloud/utils.py but I have no idea how to even do that. Anyone want to hand hold me through best practices of github?
I am getting this error with my Twilio integration, however my integration is receiving and delivering my text messages correctly or as expected. I feel it is a bug but want to know if it is. Also I am on still the Home Assistant version 0.98.1 2019-10-06 22:35:38 ERROR (Ma...
@strange vapor is PHP really that bad
A few people I know rave about laravel but who knows
All I know is Python :(
@hushed basalt It's a lot better these days, but I worked in shared hosting at the height of PHP4 and PHP5 which has forever tainted PHP in my view. Two words to strike fear: Register Globals
Shared hosting sounds like a nightmare
The biggest problem with shared hosting is that universal rule: The less someone pays for something the more they expect.
True, you can validate that statement with this discord server and our forum...
Can u pls develop a plugin for me to automate my parrot with my lights, when it rains. And I also want the parrot to call my dog when the sun is having a solar flare and my wife hasn't been home for 4 hours
Kthnxbai
I'm still waiting
🐸
It's very hard to get parrot integration going, since there are so many parrot models each supporting different features and endpoints
Better to just use a nodemcu to simulate hardware control on the parrot, quite janky but should work
@hushed basalt my favorite one here is seeing the person send another message saying "anyone?????" five minutes after sending their original message
as though everyone who can answer the question is pinged and compelled to open discord and answer
@clear ferry very nice, but why is it off-center? 🤔
ah interesting... so you've got a little nook for... things
yeah, but with the new one the space is used for the adapter from custom to iso
Hi everyone
@clear ferry What kind of lopsided car is that? 🙂
Volvo V70 2005 🤣
do you drive on the right side of the road or the wrong side there?
