No I understand. Using doctor is not running setup.exe lol.
I understand docker basics, building a container by composing it. GitHub repos, Port forwarding, etc. but yeah I’m also no expert. So I will probably start with hass.io. I have a 3b+ and 2GB Pi 4. So I guess I’ll do 3B+ now and use the 4 to play other ways like you describe.
thanks for the guidance

Tinkerer is away for 9h 24m 35s with a message :point_right: Attempting to avoid lethal concentrations of dihydrogen monoxide
The resistance begins today. Live from Zócalo Square - Mexico City - October 1, 2016
May Roger Waters never stop touring
I'm glad that HTTP sensors are a thing, I was able to hook up some reed switches to my door using a ESP32 to log when the door is opened and locked/unlocked https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Chris-Johnston/door-monitor/master/docs/img/installed_sensor.jpg
works with HA really well
If I walked in to a house and saw that on the door I would run out of there fast
Wtf
I kept leaving the house without locking, this is my solution to that
heyyy the automation worked
Tis' the season to change tires, falalalala lalala la
We only change our tyres when we go into dropbear territory
I don't get the whole dropbear thing...
Do they, like jump up at you from the treetops?
And "drop" you back down, or what's the name from?
Yeah drop from the trees
But they'd just drop away from you, wouldn't they?
Just like the wild haggis though, they're masters of stealth
@clear ferry talk about an overreaction, damn lol
@clever mortar gotta watch out for that dihydrogen monoxide, the silent liquid killer
Brits are Cray Cray @scenic radish
Oh I know. Muse's concerts are friggin insane
Too much of it is bad for your health. Hell, it destroys mountains
Doesn't need much time either if you put it under pressure
Just think what it'll do to your insides
It becomes even more dangerous if you cool or heat it too 😱
Not to mention oxygen. Do you know what it does to stuff? It's literally causing your body to explode, but slowly.
Burning your insides in slow motion
Oxygen causes cancer.
Oh Mr Neverknowledge
I still owe you some bucks 🤣

ah love it when i forget data_template in template heavy speech annoucements..... the sensor.dot blah blah is now sensor.blah..:D
is systemd-resolvd the devil?
an expressway to hell if only it could resolve hell.com?
@tranquil bone I was at a FOSDEM talk where Poettering was defending resolvd... There was lots of people involved in the various DNS servers such as Bind, PowerDNS and NSD there who were drop jawed in horror for a lot of the talk.
It is turning rather into how much of the OS can we cram into the init daemon
@clever mortar Next up is /home
How systemd is eating all Linux subsystems
What's annoying is that the core systemd for starting up services is actually nice. It's just a pity it's trying to assimilate everything.
I've seemingly borked my .git folder for my config. What's the easiest way to get it working again without losing any of the changes? I'm not too worried about the history between now and what's on github. currently dealing with:
fatal: not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git
That depends where you don't want to loose changes
locally. What's in Github is merely my backup
Do you have a .git dir?
yep
remove it
git init
git remote add origin https://github.com/username/repository.git
git add .
git commit -m "Spring cleaning"
git push -f
Thanks 😄 You rock 😄
There's always a relevant one. I'm honestly forcing myself to use git precisely so I can get better at using git. 🙂
I made some sweeping owner/permissions changes and screwed something up royally.
Aaah 😅
It worked. Thanks 😄
How is there always a relevant XKCD??
@strange vapor @clever mortar Of course, I only play junior sysadmin, so after flirting with unbound, I am just settling on the greasy comfort food that is dnsmasq. I'm resolved to never use the aforementioned again though

@wet pilot already taken care of?
all good now, sorry
all your posted playlists almost make me want to get a spotify account. almost
People don't have Spotify?
😛
It is the only proper streaming service imo, tried Google music but it was shite, and I steer clear of Crapple
And I used subsonic since 2004 until I got Spotify, but still use subsonic for my obscure prog rock
But... Spotify is radio style, when you are done with an album it will play similar artists in a radio format
I have a single playlist I use to just store new stuff in so I remember to check out the artist later
i find that the AI definitions of "similar" tend to stray too far away from the source
i use a combination of di.fm and rockradio.com these days
The wife has issues with that as well, but I think it is because she doesn't vary her taste enough
My daily mixes are usually always something new and interesting
if only di.fm still allowed direct links 😢
RIP my HA radio interface where I could select the di.fm channel and automate stuff. I just don't listen enough to justify paying their monthly fee which I think still gives the direct links...
i actually got it working as a POC
i do have the paid account though
you download the p3c or whatever it is and open it in a text editor. It'll give you the link you need
afaik with paid account it still works the same way as it used to with the free one as well
but for the free one you need to use the site or the app unfortunately
Long live Spotify
Also a five account family setup costs the same as a single account almost
ah, they locked out the "local player" access
yeah 😦
I have Spotify so I can tell my google home to play some stuff from time to time but without paying that doesn't work very well either (can't properly choose songs or artists)
I gladly pay that monthly fee for a service that works, only thing I pay for is Spotify and Netflix really
And Nabu Casa 😛
I'll gladly pay if I find it useful but I just don't use these services enough
di/rockradio are my typical work soundtracks and not hearing the ads helps
the monthly sub is a bit pricey, but then it comes with those two plus more
I probably listen to 12-15 hours of Spotify weekly on average, weeks with a lot of office time it is closer to 50 hours I would say
for me it's like 30 minutes or so a week on average so you can see why I don't find the same value in it 😉
I used di.fm for almost 20 years, but without the "local player" access that died out as well
What do you do? Have a social life and actually talk to your colleges?
that plus my own collection of music. And podcasts for actual listening.
Lots of podcasts in Spotify too, I only listen to three there though
Reminds me, I should try to pull in the other podcasts I listen to in subsonic
i like google music because it comes with youtube premium (no ads on youtube videos)
wait i have that backward. my youtube premium subscription includes google play music all access
and i'm grandfathered in at $10/month instead of $12
YouTube premium is overpriced imo
Compared to what you get
I considered it for the baby to have offline videos in the car
By itself I agree, but you get google music as well
or at least you used to get that
Is there anything in Google music that isn't on Spotify? 🤷
I doubt it
it comes with youtube music and google play music
At one point there were five or six music streaming services in Norway and they all were fragmented
But lets say you don't have spotify, then it's not that bad
depending on country
yeah, if you already have another streaming service it doesn't make sense to get youtube premium, but i got it because i didn't have a streaming service
But YouTube premium doesn't have a five members account like Spotify has maybe?
Didn't see it when I checked prices last
3 I think, + 29NOK ea over that, or something
Yeah, to move my account to a family account and include the wife and a seperate account for guests only cost me a single Spotify account price, plus 10NOK or whatever, and I can still give my daughter an account without paying anything extra, and I could cancel the wife's subscription 🤷
Is there a way to find out where I've defined a specific bash alias? I made one, but I cannot find it to modify it, 🙁 Where are the common areas other than ~/.bashrc (running Raspbian Buster)
@clear ferry I love Youtube premium because it helps me keep offline music on my device for when I travel, which is nice 🙂 And no ads for kids (or anyone) on Youtube, so I worry less about showing the little ones educational vids since they won't randomly have some ED video in there or something else ridiculous.
$12 is a bit steep, I admit, but, so far I'm loving it
@bronze rock offline Ive had with Spotify for 10 years already, but I hardly ever use it since I have free data 🤷
I was previously paying $6/mo for Pandora, but I couldn't choose what I wanted...
Gotcha. I simply don't have data access sometimes when travelling so its nice to still be able to listen to music in those environs.
we're not telling you spotify is bad atx...lol
Pandora, I don't think we ever had that over here
just that it's nice that youtube premium also has google music included
I see it mentioned in a lot of American car forums
I talked to an audiophile that told me he used tidal with a special account that had access to master recordings
can anyone actually tell the difference between 320 kbps and lossless?
Someone says so
I can't
But if I can listen to it on a dirty turntable instead of MP3 I do that
Because then I have to lift my fat ass to change sides 😛
lmao
I like pandora, for finding music, but while they seemed to pioneer a lot of the discovery tech, it seems Google has caught up a ton. It's exceedingly good at choosing playlists for me based off of songs that match exactly what I want to hear
according to this my plebe ears can't even tell the difference between 128kbps mp3 and lossless lol: https://www.npr.org/sections/therecord/2015/06/02/411473508/how-well-can-you-hear-audio-quality
ehhh, I can tell the difference between 128kbps and 192kbps mp3s, at least, encoded 10+yrs ago, I dunno if they've changed the algorithms to be better by now or not
greatly depends on what you're using to listen to it as well
I keep picking the 320kbps mp3 on that test lol
FYI looking at the waveforms themselves between WAV and 320mbps mp3 there is VERY little difference that you can even see, so it makes sense that it's difficult to hear the differences (imo)
i can't tell unless there are cymbals or something else with very high frequencies
i can immediately tell with anything below 128 though
it shocks me that some people can't even do that
yeah it's pretty good: https://play.google.com/music/m/Tntqvjdtjx5zrcm2amomryzphqm?t=American_Life_-_Primus
😉

there it is
Only thing I watch on YouTube is kids shows anyway 😂
And then I only have to watch a single ad
Once per day
ah so the entire thing is a waste of time then 😉
yeah i don't really watch much youtube
i've always seen the youtube premium part as a nice bonus for when i watch jontron or pewdiepie every once in a while
also, speaking of jontron, this video is hilarious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ci2hj7CSHI

@boreal pewter ?
?
What ya need?
what do you mean by just paid my new spice mill?
He send me 15 bucks on Amazon yesterday and it just came to the situation I needed a spice mill for 10 bucks
Therefor he paid it
Thx, comes tmrw and will shred my hot peppers
oooooh
now i want a spice mill lol
i like hot peppers as long as they actually have a flavor as opposed to just tasting like fire
My spice mill grinds up a different type of herb...
We tried to grow California Reapers this year tho, they just didn't come up. So next year again. And then I will think about something for work.. :3
Little bit of electric lettuce
The hottest in the world I think so far
certainly the hottest i've tried
anyone here play apex legends?
totally smooth conversation transition
Ma girl pre ordered RDR2 Ultimate since we want to fire up the RTX and Ryzen sometimes and I still wait on the new 1TB MX500 SSD because both her NVMe SSDs are full already
At least full enough for not another 100GB
I still think about a way to backup my windows gaming PC's using the 8TB external HDD as a "cache" to migrate the backups at night to my Cloud. I first would probably need to make the drive ready at my Deskmini Linux server and some good tool like Duplicati which keeps kind of a library of backups and also smart enough to choose relevant data system and user related automatically
never played red dead, i've heard good things tho
has anyone that uses myq been able to get it working again?
Since the API changed I'm guessing no
And it won't work until the #330944238910963714 integration is updated - possibly not until 0.101.0
Saw the PR for it, it's a breaking change so hopefully not before 101
But who knows 🤷
@light trout thats what i thought. Well guess ill just have to push a button until then.
Just a quick meta question here, how would you qualify philips hue ? sensor ? switch ?
brand
brand ?
👌
For those who want to fix their MyQ Cover and don't want to wait for the next update to fix it. The updates been made on github. You can just download the HA repo as a zip folder (https://github.com/home-assistant/home-assistant), then extract homeassistant/components/myq from it. Once you've done that, in custom components on your HA system make a myq directory and add all the contents of your extracted folder into it. Then restart and it should work. I had to rename the cover entity as it created it with a name of "cover_2". Just keep in mind you'll probably want to pull the custom component out once the next update releases with this fix.
Can also just run dev 😛
FFS, as is typical, I have every audio cable in the house possible, except for the one I need: A simple stereo phono pair to stereo phono pair :/
A hotfix PR for 0.100.3 (which includes that fix) has been created https://github.com/home-assistant/home-assistant/pull/28073
^ thanks ludeeus
Moving into my new house this weekend. Worth trying to migrate my (fairly basic) config? Or just nuke it and start with a clean install?
Congrats! Your lights and switches will undoubtedly be different, but media equip, etc may be the same and worth keeping. Only you know how much of the same equipment and services you’ll have
It'll basically be all the same equipment. Nothing at my current place is fixed. However, room config will be entirely different. Guess I could selectively keep parts of my config that will be more annoying to set up again (Harmony integration, etc).
keep the config files and dump storage?
Think that's the best course of action. My Hue setup especially will change quite dramatically (still using Hue Hub, not a Zigbee controller directly in HA).
And I want to be a bit more selective with Unifi as a device tracker too. Way too many entities as default 😛
Anyone use HA with an aquarium? If yes how so? I've checked out some "smart aquarium monitors" and they are pricey. And I think HA can do a lot of what they offer
someone made something like that that's opensource
It simulates a 27" TV so that potential robbers will know you are broke and move on
My computer monitor is 27" >_>
same
First TV I personally owned was 55", even as a kid I think we had CRTs larger than that
40" (Bravia promotion with a free PS3) -> 50" plasma -> 65" LED
I think we had 22 inch monitors in 2004 but I have no idea
I was 12 and playing CS:S nonstop
Haha, the good old days!
I started with a 10" bw - 14" - 21" - 28" - 37" - 55" - 65" and now just waiting for a reasonable 80" 😛
I can still vividly remember when I was in boarding school and someone bought a Voodoo graphics card. I was so blown away by how good Quake 2 looked that I went and bought a video card myself straight away.
Quake 2 was played in my house but I was 5 when it was released
so I couldn't really do anything
so tempted to spin up a projector
Never has voodoos, I went ATI - TNT2 - back to ATI and running it since
i really don't want to tear up the celing in my living room though
Built my first computer back in 1997
Before that we had mostly IBM machines since 1988
And C128 before that
my first was in the athalon days
When amd didn't have thermal throttling
Jesus Christ that was a poor idea
Removed the cooler of a duron while it was running once
It cracked and snapped in two
And a friend of mine with dual Athlon system made it catch fire by putting two different steppings on the same mobo
While my p3 coppermine played quake 3 for 20 minutes before turning off after I removed the cooler in game
I never broke any of my stuff on purpose. One Athlon/Duron died because I put too much silver paste on it and it spread out on the numbered L-bridges 😢
Lool
i've totally killed a proc with too much thermal goo before
globbed around the die and into the pins. took out the board and the cpu 😦
lesser hardware though so not as painful as it could have been
I'm not the only idiot then 🙂
Wait, now there is two of them!
heh
those were much more exiting toys to play with than the modern cpus...
I remember buying 32MB ram in 1998, think it was €350 in modern money's
I remember a friend of mine had an Intel build with some sort of weird RAM. What might that have been?
must have been around 2000s
Our first PC was around A$4k
I think it was 80Mhz
I remember, later on, that I needed to get my 64MB of ram upgraded to 128MB to play a game
It was RIMM -memory
I used to game so much back then.
Now I play like one game a year ;(
I think the last game I seriously played was Factorio
family's first computer was a Gateway 2000. Win 95, Pentium 1 w/mmx, 2G hdd? (i don't remember) and i don't remember the ram
But eventually I'm like, why don't I just program instead and learn real skills
office 97 if that helps date things
I still think mspaint from there is better than the current version
It's amazing how these mega corporations fail at their core business sometimes
Yeah I remember playing from when I get home to 10-11
It just churns so much time, you don't even realise it
way too easy to be reminded to stop by the birds waking up
I get over games eventually though
civ is bad for that too
@orchid rose rdram was weird yes
Especially grinding style ones, like fallout, skyrim, FF,
i remember rd ram
"wait so I'm grinding to get xp, coins, to buy stuff to help me grind "
I still game a little bit nowadays. Types of games have changed a bit though
I remember how Titus the Fox wouldn't run on my pc for some reason
2200 hours in Europa Universalis IV 👀
Nice Christmas gift for the wife
Whats the name of that darkness game
Where you're a kid trying to rescue his dog
And you get killed brutally when you die
I'm planning to get a cheap chinese knock-off one of those knives
40$ or so, must be fantastic
should get the real deal
We have enough of the cheap knives
Some people say Japanese fine steel has all these layers just because they had such crap steel
folded steel is quite something
And it was the only way to make it usable
yep
but was really good for what they started with
That's just the day to day knives
they just had to spend a ton more time on it
why do you have like 20 knives? 😄
I reach for my Victornix more than my Global most of the time
Because we make a lot of food and enjoy knifework 😂
We have a few Japanese ones in drawers, but not folded ones
So she will like that knife 😛
I was thinking of buying a Victorinox chef's knife, but they don't look cool 😛
for about 40€ it should be pretty good though
Chubo has all price ranges @orchid rose
massdrop has a deal every so often
this is what I'm looking at atm: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32970339722.html
45 layers O_O
a bit too long imo
10"?
Yeah. 8" is the more traditional standard chef's knife
I will need to get some whetstones as well and learn how to use them...
I prefer 6.5"
Depends on what you're doing

I once watched a docu about someone collecting grenade fragments and building knifes of it from like hundreds layers of grenade steel
I want that
"Look my knife already killed 20 people"
is it the japanese dude?
what did I just watch...

got rid of the ugly vertical blinds in my living room and installed these blinds last night. the windows in total are 8 feet wide by 5 feet tall (244 cm x 152 cm)
cordless lift, which is nice. also used my new impact driver for the first time. that tool is friggin' awesome
You got windows in your back while you try to chill? Damn that would drive me crazy
there's only one spot where the TV could really go which is across from the windows, so unfortunately that's really the only place for the couch to go
KO for a living for me
doesn't bother me though. the couch is about 6 inches from the windows
on the other side of the windows is a balcony that's recessed about 4 feet (1.5 m) by the building structure, so there's no direct light to that room
definitely helps
looks good. I hate when you have to a room set up a certain way because theres only one spot for a tv.
When I finally move some day, dunno if house or apartment, I mostly care about the couch. Because want such a ~4x3m couch to just lay everywhere
@scenic radish what kind of impact did you get?
milwaukee m12
super nice. it was on sale in a bundle with a drill, electric ratchet, and sawzall
I have a 3x4x2m one in my upstair living room
Only a 3+2 seater in the main living room
@clear mirage thanks. yeah, bit of a bummer, but i use a different TV in a different for gaming which is most of my media consumption
my living room is pretty lousy for setup too
My house is lousy
the only air return for the entire condo is also in that room and it's a little noisy because it's right by the blower motor...so i have an automation that turns the volume up on the TV when it turns on and turns it back down when it turns off lol
lol
The living room is like 16 meters long and 4 meters wide
one of the 3 returns is in the living room. Decently far from the blower though
My useless living room
legit less than 1 foot (.3 m) of ductwork between the grille and the blower
that's an odd size for sure
How many times have you bumped your head in that speaker?
if it makes you feel better @clear ferry, my living room is 15' x 13' (4.5 m x 4 m)
so at least yours is much bigger
😉
@scenic radish your welcome. my setup is that i have to have the tv in the corner and i have sliding patio doors to one side
My house is stupid overall 😛
@clear mirage ah i've gotcha. i'm glad the door to my balcony is on the side and is a regular slab door. i hate sliding doors
I'm a big fan of the Milwaukee M12 line. My tools are either those or Makita 18V
i ended up going dewalt
yeah they're great. feels weird having contractor-grade tools when i'm just a homeowner but oh well lol
that's also why i went 12 volt and not 18
I have Bosch at home, but I've used a lot of Makita at work, love em
mmm Bosch
Realistically brand doesn't really matter for home stuff. We're not using them enough to really see the drawbacks
true. i just wanted to not have to replace them for a long time
that was my thought too
Are they Fuel?
It's the brushless versions of their tools
That chair 🤢
i got the set about a year ago, just haven't used the impact since i got them
I was a bit worried about 12V not being enough power for certain jobs, but even drilling out concrete to put an anchor in ended up being a non-issue for the M12 hammer drill
@scenic radish the tv is in the one corner. the previous owners left a a swivel wall mount, just havent got around to mounting it
My Bosch takes both 14.4 and 18v
@clear ferry it was a freebie when i got the couch, lamps, and end tables
@unreal orbit that's good to hear. using the impact was probably overkill for driving 1.5" screws, but i didn't want to switch bits on the drill constantly. scared the piss out of me using it for the first time because it was like SCREW FASTENED BITCH in the blink of an eye lol
@clear mirage ooh that's nice. the previous owners of my place just left a bunch of code violations and some laxatives
The point where the impact starts impacting is usually pretty shallow, so you can hear when you need to start backing off
@unreal orbit let me tell you, those brackets are going nowhere lmao
yeah i got the hang of it after the first couple tries
@scenic radish also left me that desk to. Lol. yea they also left a nest and myq garage door
ah, all the goodies
they did install nice appliances though. i can't complain about that
I thought my office was bad 😛
yup thats what got me started down this rabbit hole of DIY smart home
you should see my game room
small zigbee device boxes everywhere
why would i throw them out when they look so nice on the floor and on every other horizontal surface?
oh its worse now. in the corner is 3d printer. lol i have the same problem with amazon boxes
so at work just now someone apperantly forgot to put the coffee pot under the maker...
@boreal pewter this is my upstairs couch btw
and so now i just noticed that appearntly the pi im using for ha is now not appearing on my network,
Lol
Only two weeks until baby starts kindergarten, then I can finally work on some projects that are waiting on my desk 😂
aaahh.. sad that this dont work
if [ -f ~/."$(hostname)" ]; then
. ~/."$(hostname)"
fi
ha!
[user@oldfag ~]$ exec bash "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is based on a true story: Chuck Norris once swallowed a turtle whole, and when he crapped it out, the turtle was six feet tall and had learned karate." IT BLOODY DOES
@scenic radish I will also give you access to the bot commands, so that you will be able to add/update commands
ah awesome, thank you.
thank you! 🎉
🎉
Thanos name Thanos name

Has anyone had issues with Tuya lightbulbs? They're so random. I need to flash them today lol. If i watch my wifi camera the lights randomly turn on
tried to get Google home to tell me when the pizza arrives, but turns out that Pushbullet sensor in HA is currently not working
Also made the doorbell pause Kodi if it's playing a movie or tvshow
Next project would probably be to build a wireless meat thermometer. Just need a 2.5mm jack for it...
should finaly start implementing an thermostat with epaper display.
but right now an button for the light in the toilet 💩
that's an interesting project. why an e-paper display for that?
Because it isnt shiny 🤣
While ordering the stuff I also thourght I meight make it battery powerd but meh.. at the place where it ll be hanging is the network stuff anyway
Yeah, probably don't want something like that to be battery powered anyway
looking at you nest
ooh congrats to the purple - I still hope for an rank
Ah thank you 🙂
We don't have negative ranks (yet)
probably...
😱
But before that, every one starts reading docs, so it's looooong in the future
Gonna start saying "when the docs are read" instead of "when pigs fly"
yeah, folks reading docs, are way longer in the future than flying pigs
"Did you read the docs?"
"Nope"
"No soup for you, come back one year"
Well looks like 100.3 has the update for myq
@obtuse niche here ?

don't wanna flush my issue in the forum if the master is present... i might have issed something? restarted hass multiple times .. followed the uninstall procedure
I’ve been using a V1 SmartThings hub since the Kickstarter days, but with a couple recent issues and expecting future changes will cause more problems, I’m considering switching
I’ve always been intrigued by home assistant so I installed HASS.io in docker on Ubuntu using an old NUC. besides absolutely hating using the terminal in Linux to manage and install applications it went fairly smooth. I even was able to add my Sonos, Tradfri gateway, and google cast devices surprisingly easy.
I’m looking forward to using HomeKit with my iOS devices and Apple Watch. But I’m at the point where I want to start setting up “real” home automation devices that are Zwave and zigbee but I’m concerned about the stability of the USB sticks that are typically used
I want to ditch my ST hub and pair devices directly to home assistant and use a 2-in-1 USB stick. Is there anything that I need to be aware of as far as zigbee support is concerned? I’ve read a few posts and some feedback is it isn’t completely baked yet
#zigbee-archived would be where to ask about Zigbee @sweet vessel
#zwave-archived for Z-Wave
etc
Thanks
@jade tartan you can also control ecobee locally with homekit controller, but without the ecobee-specific functionality. posted here because it's not relevant to #zigbee-archived
😄
Well I think I know what I'm getting my parents for xmas. Water Detector with Text Message and Email Alerts, Powered by 3 AAA Batteries, Perfect for Sump Pump - uses a Float Switch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07V6ZMV46/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_rD4RDbSBS9BPD
They dont have any smart devices other than the TVs but they're constantly concerned about their sump pump not working when they're gone.
@green inlet i think frustration and edgerouter is par for the course
🤢
Just looked at a live websites ftp
Third party api keys in plaintext, in the curl headers even
SeCuRiTy? Wats dat
Can this be because the package is broken?
possibly
Thanks, I'll try the docker image then
just tested in a local venv and it installed with no issues for me
thanks
might need to do pip3 install?
Already tried, updated setuptools too and everything...
I'll just play with the docker for now and create a venv if I cannot make it work
i had a bit of dependency hell trying to get it started up
aiohttp, python-dateutils, bs4
oh maybe thats it, thanks
Thanks I installed it 🙂 I just realise I had to open the requirements.txt and install those
lol that can help
mmm just fixed a gap in my garage open notification automation
@wet pilot gap in garage open, I get it ! Funny ! 😛
i've had a zwave controller hooked up to my garage door for almost a year and i only recently got around to setting up notifications
I need to fix my opener
I tried with a esp01, but.... That will trigger on reboot
Because of the pins avaliable, which is not good
So moving to wemos mini d1
Just hire a virtual assistant
With a remote control button pusher
Who you call when you want to open the door
He has that, wife 2.0
That's why parental leave in Norway is so long
Someone has to stay home to press buttons
I'm probably somewhat alternative, but I sing this as a lullaby to my daughter
Blood on the tracks is great. I love Idiot Wind.
It's a very emotional album
I usually like the bit earlier stuff but there's a nice melancholic feeling throughout that one
Aye, I've delved a lot deeper into Dylan the last few years
His Christmas album is horrid though 🤢
But his born again Christian album is quite good actually
newbie question: how to develop UIs like these? https://twitter.com/jolaca01/status/1185583676173799424
In #frontend-archived 😉
Not sure what the bottom one is, but the top one is Lovelace
Bottom one may well be too, just with a kiosk mode mod
@clever mortar you mean directly in the UI? I didn't find how to hide elements, add new... I feel a little dumb but that is
Well, the #frontend-archived docs can help you there, and the pinned messages in that channel
Fermax seems to bee some kind of intercom thingimabob
And if you then get stuck, that's what the channel is for
thanks
IPVPN would appear to be the latest buzz word for MPLS 🤔
Or he has access to Google
I suppose the question then is... what are you asking about 😉
MPLS is pretty much the realm of businesses
Repeating the question makes nothing clearer
It's like shouting because somebody didn't understand your words...
🤦
The XY problem is asking about your attempted solution rather than your actual problem. This leads to enormous amounts of wasted time and energy, both on the part of people asking for help, and on the part of those providing help.
The problem occurs when people get stuck on what they believe is the solution and are unable to step back and explain the issue in full.
See about about MPLS
Home users ... not so much going to have access to that never mind used it
Debating on whether only the universe is infinite...
STOP reposting the same question
You've asked. Now you get to wait for the responses (or lack of)

Hopefully the person who is now missing learns a little from that and doesn't carry on the repeat posting over on DrZzs...
If you're interested in weird custom stuff, DrZzs Discord is a great place to learn stuff
Not that I've got the skills, or time, to do anything with what I learn there...
Ipvpn has nothing to do with home automation anyway 🤷
If you are in that realm of links you are probably better off looking at industrial automation
Well, yeah, MPLS and home... not something I've seen outside of some really geeky folks
The number of folks I've known with a home MPLS link, I could count on the fingers of of one hand, and have fingers to spare
I can count it on one finger 😂
I've known a total of two, both were key players in small ISPs
I'm a nutjob with a overly complicated network involving OSPF over Wireguard, and I wouldn't touch MPLS with a barge pole. Have been invovled in the periphery of an MPLS deployment professionally, and want nothing to do with it after seeing the stress of deployment 😄
Yeah, the guy I know of is one of the highest certified Cisco people in Norway 😛
😋
Hi can anyone help me with tasmota flash
I dont know where to ask thats why asked here
i new too 🙂
#551843800209686539 would be where to ask @clever adder
Welcome to the madness folks 😉
but that looks archived
Did you read the channel?
no not yet
Where the last message in #551843800209686539 says:
This channel is now archived. For help with Tasmota please see their Discord server at https://discord.gg/TjUGRG4
🤔 😉
yep read them
Love Wednesday's, I just had to shower a kid full of shit, twice, she was very happy about that 💩
Well, poop everywhere is way preferable over no poop at all... 🤷
Yes, which is why we are here, since there was only a single one yesterday
I haven't had a poop like that... Since she was born though, I guess I'm lucky 😂
Wife has had two like that
Will be poop explosion tomorrow
And she is 1y old now 😂
Sometimes she'll go two days with no poo
I just noticed your emoji is called "xi2". That's pretty awesome.
Wtf did I just drink
Poison in a bottle
@low harness

🇦🇺 > 🇳🇴 .............. > ........... 💩 ........ > ...... 🇺🇸 .... > ...... 🇫🇷

I feel like 30% of my day is saying no don't eat that
And 70% sayinf why won't you eat this
Mine is 7.6kg
At almost 9 months
She waa 3.5 at birth though
I don't know what you northerners all eat though
Probably potatoes and cheese
And disgusting sausages
There are only few things in this world more disgusting than bockwurst
She was 3.4kg and 49cm at birth
One of them is bockwurst covered in poo
One of the best baby shirt prints I've seen. "Call me No. Everyone else does."
Can I send drinks to the USA? If so I'll do it
100 ml or less
I had that coke energy drink recently. Gross
I'm always willing to send stuff to other countries 😂
I sent @sullen basalt a box full of Norwegian electric fittings
So he could play with them
that's amazing lol
can confirm, @clear ferry is awesome as heck despite his love for HP 😄

if you send me something i'd absolutely send you something back
not sure what you might be interested in from the US tho
It is the thing I look forward to the most everytime I go to the us
Finding some 🍒 flavoured stuff
I'm going to Houston in January, I can bring some stuff for you and ship it via USPS and save a lot on shipping 😂
lol that sounds like a solid plan
Norwegian Christmas goodies
It's kinda perverse, they started selling Christmas candy and sodas in late September this year
i can send you some cherry stuff while you're there too
Norwegian Christmas goodies
oooh i like that idea
🍒
Ermeegerd, does that make you 🎅 ?
i know him

also, fedex international to from me to norway is $230... wtf
Loool
is there a shipping service that doesn't cost as much as a Pixel XL?
I sent a whole box of fittings to luma for $25 or something with tracking
ah that's much better, what service?
Shipped with Norwegian postal service and USPS
@clear ferry have you ever had Cheerwine: https://cheerwine.com/
ah yeah i could send you 4 pounds of cherry things for $36 with usps
but yeah i like the houston idea lol
@sullen basalt I need to get a hold of this
But do they have it in Texas
Never even heard of them, but now I will look for them 😂
kroger owns a grocery store right by me called food 4 less... despite its name, the store brands there are amazing
i've tried a wide variety of the store brands and i've only disliked one
But I want to buy food 4 more!
if you're in the south you won't have any problem finding cheerwine, it's everywhere
they advertise for it in Charlotte on billboards
I'll be going to Texas for the first time in January. I'll let you know if it's really worth it 😉
Hohoho, galaxy fold is on sale in Norway, only$2300
@unreal orbit I will too, maybe we will be there at the same time
screamin deal
lol
Any quick suggestion for an alternative to Contabo for a small Dev-VPS but not low-end hardware? And without Setup-Fee... I find that a no-go
Using Digital Ocean a lot for small Dev VMs. Reliable as hell. Even a HA integraion 😄

There's a place called Jim's Apple Farm here i MN. It's the largest candy store in MN. They have an amazing assortment of soda. Apparently 158 kinds of root beer alone. My wife and I just tried Cheerwine for the first time about a month ago. It wasn't bad, but I don't think I'll be getting it again. It wasn't as bad as "spaghetti" flavored soda. I call BS on that. It was more of a robitussin cough syrup flavored.

@wet pilot It's crazy where AI research is leading.
it really is
It's amazing that the AI figured out multiple ways to exploit the physics system.
Main problem at the moment is the lack of understanding of why certain AI works the way it does. It's one of the things really screwing over auto driving cars.
If the car is driving along, and it swerves towards something due to some odd input it recieved during it's training, who's liable?
That's a perfect example.
I'm still holding off on buying a tesla.
The damn car accelerated into a concrete barrier.
Tesla was fun to rent, but a shitty car allover imo
But the Tesla is a really fun car to drive!
Poor ride and seat comfort
I personally would never take my hands off of the steering wheel even with self driving. They have a long way to go.
But 0-60mph in -3 seconds
But ludicrous mode!
I have an '04 Pontiac GTO that's a fun car to drive, but my god.
0-60 in sub 3 seconds is insane.
It looks like they are going to have a lot of competition coming up though.
I saw you could get the ludicrous one for $79000 in Norway now
Used or new?
Used, with 30k miles on it or so I think it was
not too bad.
I have a 4 year old that desperately wants to ride in my GTO. He always wants to go faster. I thought an X series with ludicrous mode to haul the 3 kids around in would be practical.
50% of all new cars sold in Norway is electric now
I find that hard to belive
They said so in the latest report from the car Industry
Pff. What does the car industry know about cars?
Not sure if they included all hybrids in that for shits and giggles
Probably
Or any car with a battery 😉
"Electric vehicles are now the norm in Norway when it comes to new car sales, accounting for 58 percent of all car sales in March"
Daimler isn't developing any new ice engines anymore.
had to search as I didn't believe it either
Sure feels like it when every second car I pass is an electric
So, what you're saying is ... they're all stopped and out of charge?
@mental garden internal combustion engines engines
@clever mortar often in winter as the range drops dramatically
Ayup
@clear ferry thanks...lol
Batteries + temperature variance == fun
18% are hybrids so that still leaves 40% full electric
My colleague said his nissan leaf gets 200km in summer and 99 in winter
so I assume there's a massive tax benefit for electric cards in Norway?
ouch...that's a hell of a drop.
Yes, almost no car tax
California had something similar for a while. I think it recently went away
Audi A8 with full load out will be 1.8million nok, a Tesla that cost the same as that in the UK will cost 800k nok in Norway
Even the E-Golf is almost half as a regular golf with the same load out
I'm going to have a hard time giving up a V8 though. They just sound so mean.
@clear ferry my dad has a V10 viper. He prefers the sound of a V8.
Can't compare those American inferior engines 😛
What I hate is the trend of making everything a turbo V6.
Hier sehen Sie einen Audi A8(W12). Der Audi bekommt eine neue Edelstahl-Auspuffanlage.
@mental garden blame emissions standards
but, those TT6s tend to make more power than the outgoing 8s
I had a '14 Taurus SHO. It had 365hp and the GTO is 350. The GTO is 10x more fun to drive. You could really feel the turbo lag on the Taurus.
When I floored it, you could feel the turbo kick in at about 55mph.
it definitely kicked in way before that point
I guess I should say there was a noticeable increase. Obviously they are working before that.
I did like the awd though.
I don't drive the gto in the winter.
The main complaint is that car is good at going fast in a straight line, but that's about it.
The brakes are way too small also.
that's probably fixable though
yea, it is.
That requires a wife that is ok with spending the money on it.
I wanted to put a supercharger and upgrade the brakes, but she said no.
Apparently having kids means I don't need a stupid fast car.🙄
That's the plan.
It's my daily driver right now.
Hoping to get stored somewhere else eventually.
Then I'll just ship it off and she won't know the difference.
😁
That's the way my dad usually did things. It's easier to ask for forgiveness rather than permission.😂
"well i've already spent $10,000 on these upgrades, so it would be a waste to reverse them"
"you spent $10,000 on that?!"
"...shit"
She spends ~$2,500 a year on coffee from Caribou Coffee (like Starbucks). At least the shit I spend money doesn't literally get pissed away.
🤦
Dudeeeeee u no eat sushi?
You can buy an extremely nice dual-boiler espresso machine and suitable grinder for that price
the following year you could buy a coffee roaster to match, and all the beans you want
source: did exactly that.
but then, effort 😛
Part of what you pay for is not having to deal with making the coffee every day
And cleaning
Well yeah
pulling shots in the morning is the best part of waking up
Costs for water-filter and maintenance
managed to convince my wife to drink more at home by showing her how to make a better PSL
@mental garden lmao damn... I wish we still had a caribou around me
They got rid of all the Chicago and Chicago suburb ones
fun fact: the busiest single caribou location is inside best buy corporate hq
@scenic radish I wish they would get rid of all of the ones around me too!
Espresso is a PITA to make at home if you're making it for more than just yourself. I like having a machine, but when people are over I end up spending ~an hour just making damn coffee
man... you need to streamline your workflow my man!
You could have a look for a wife
There's not much to streamline with a single portafilter machine
one main advantage of a dual boiler setup is that you can crank out shots and steam milk at the same time
Hi guys! Who has a tablet hanging on the wall with lovelace running on it?
I've been hesitating about the fire8, but read mixed stuff about lovelace compatibilty
any ideas? 😉
#frontend-archived would be the best place to ask...
https://www.ted.com/talks/janelle_shane_the_danger_of_ai_is_weirder_than_you_think/up-next Related to earlier conversation.
@clear ferry did you get your 4 PRs for spooky hack month?
yaaaaaas
same. i think i racked up 8 or 9
once i started editing docs i just couldn't stop
it's really the only way i can contribute to home assistant since i don't have any programming knowledge
if only home assistant were written in BASIC. then i could help
BASIC shudders
lol
🤢 I think I get a Man flu
@clear ferry Knowing Assembler does strange things to people... Are you sure you've recoverd?
Yes, I can still see the triple led stop signs we programmed in my mind
too much cherry candy?
Sounds more like an emergency shelter 😉
Who knows, I'm not sure of their sizes, I use anything from XL to 3xl in Norwegian shirts
😛
but then you'd have to drink crappy keurig coffee 😉
O_O
though i'm not much better. I order Amazon brand coffee because its cheap and it shows up at my door every month 😛
heh, im going to be doing that at some point soon when we buy a pot
i kinda need a pot that works with HA 😛
lol
aka brew and keep warm control
not sure about brew, but a cheap one with an on/off switch could be slightly controlled by a smart switch
could get a cheap one and replace the control board with an ESP
im trying to be lazy here
actually, the ones that only have an on/off switch should be fully done with a smart switch
make sure its actually a coffee pot though, don't want to get 413 errors 😄
heh
I can't complete my purchase of an echo Dot on Amazon for $9 that I will then trade in at Best buy for a $20 gift card. First world problems.
Lol wtf
@hushed basalt How far could Broadlink's IR work? Cos apparently it says 8m but my Broadlink which is only around 5-6m away from the device and it is not working unless i'm 2-3m away. And nothing is blocking its path. The reason it's 5-6m apart is because i have another device on the other end so right now my Broadlink is basically in the middle.
sunlight can cause issues, indirect paths
@wet pilot there isn't really any sunlight entering the room.
@hushed basalt woah i didn't know IR pollution exist. Let me see what i can find on Google and to fix this issue.
Thank you, both of you
Incadenscent bulbs?
Hmm
You might need two broad links
Basically think of the broadlink as a light bulb and the tv etc as a camera
But a really crappy camera that can only take 1 x 1 pixel photo
If the light bulb is too weak or far away,
And the camera isn't pointed directly at the bulb but at the wall
It would be hard to tell if the bulb is on or not.
And if there's other things around that use the same frequency as the bulb, it gets even harder
I'm looking to start with a floorplan but damn this is going to be painful if I'll add each light overlayed one over the other... I might have to think of something else 😄
I see. Thanks for the explanation. It seems like i have no choice but to get another broadlink
light groups @orchid rose
yeah I'm looking at scenes right now as that's what I'm using
with all the automated light this is going to get confusing anyway 😄
So apparently now when i go say hassio panel i get a message "unable to load panel source"
@clear mirage sounds like #330990055533576204
@clear ferry already psoted
Somethings wrong these 2 ISP have access to the same infra and the on on the right (BT) should no longer be connected to the network provider as they where forced to spin it off, further away from BT Retail. Either BT is making a loss or there is something dodgy going on
@pure vine The underlying network is resold at the same price to all of them, it's up to the ISP how much they want to charge on top. Same system at place in Ireland.
For a lot of them, the under lying network is commodity, and they try to sell you a triple play to increase the profit.
thats a big upsell for most of them
Hey everyone im a huge HA fan just come across the Discord chat! im always busy coming up with new things to automate!
i've run out of things to autom8 😦
you didnt
You just aren't thinking hard enough 😉
I highly doubt your doors open themselves, for example
or your Fridge is'nt screaming at you when you leave it open for too long (yet)
My fridge has that built in 🙂
I had to make that with an esp 🤣
there is also an sarcastic comment when you open it the 20th time a day
@unreal orbit brb, gonna combine an esp8266 with a dc motor to open my doors
Maybe I'll be able to finish my automated greenhouse after new years
@scenic radish add a speaker so you can make a startrek woosh when they open
I'm hoping I can make my halloween decorations before halloween this year :(
If you haven't even started I'd say it's unlikely 😉
pff, it's not much, just some metallic jars with ESPIxelstick controlled wemos lights in it, and a speaker connected playing some mp3s, and 2x gu10 zigbee lights that will pulse
if I only get.... 3 hours to myself the next few days
@wet pilot big brain time
This is Halloween from The Nightmare Before Christmas at the Riverside Light Show House in 2016. Read more about this epic spot and the location here. http:/...
@clear ferry
I know, but that one is pathetic, you should see the real one
Here it is – My 2017 Halloween Light Show featuring the music of The Nightmare Before Christmas! Want this sequence? Get it today at https://magicallightshow...
That works out too
@clear ferry what about a Kubernetes channel?
As likely as a esxi channel 😛
I would argue that
lmao
😛
lol
You guys have racks? All my networking equipment is on the entertainment center in my game room
My Walmart entertainment center nonetheless
That's the other issue...I don't really have a spot for one anyway
I do, however, have room for the Kodiak cakes blueberry muffins I just made
Anybody have a chamberlain myq garage door opener?
I don't, but I know there's an ongoing issue with it that the devs are working on
In case that was your question
Mmmm Chamberlain garage openers
@scenic radish do you own your house or renting
The garage opener with 9000 names
All garage door openers are just a robot taking your job!
Tbh I wouldn't worry about a rack unless you have a house
My main servers are some SFF desktop computers and a syno nas
None of it is rackmount
It’s adds to my WiFi but won’t show in my device listing in the app, I’ll call them in the morning.
@hushed basalt ah good to know, thanks
My main (only) server is a raspberry pi 3 b+
Have you heard of that? Pretty powerful machine
Very few people can afford one
Yeah, I've heard of it, but very few of my customers can afford it
Damn, that's too bad
$$$$$$$$
Nope but in all seriousness I bought a pretty nice aluminum case for it lol
I hear that every time someone orders a raspberry pi the president of the company hand builds it
lol
Including mining the rare earth metals
I need to buy a 3d printer
No idea where to start
@hushed basalt fun story, before we bought 3PAR they used to ship them in mahogany boxes to customer sites, then they would have them picked up at the customer site and sanded down and relaqoured before shipping it to a new customer
Lol
It lasted for a year or so after we bought them, but was more for show
I think 3PAR shipped 100 systems per year before the purchase, now we ship that every week
All that"Appliance" sort of server sales reminds me of Silicon Valley the tv show
Hooli Box III
Halt And Catch Fire is a good series if you haven't seen it
