I was brainwashed, the first theatre I ever worked in was kitted to the 9s with sennheiser
except for the bose FOH kit, which I hated.
I've got QC25's that are great general purpose ones - just wish they used USB C power
In the office I usually use my MDR-XB950 or my MDR-XB70AP
I had the QC25 before I forgot them in some DC ๐คฃ
And never found them again
I used to religiously buy the Sennheiser HD202 headphones
People who used to buy a new Koss Portapro every three weeks ๐คข
how many do they need
ick. I couldn't. I would definitely look like a dweeb
because they broke every time to took them on @ocean mirage
huh
they were made of shite and graham crackers
I've never tried anything koss but they have a good reputation
but also you live in the arctic fucking circle so everything is brittle there
Those rubbishes
crapple has a good reputation but lacks where it counts, so i don't always believe hype
Remember everyone had them when I grew up, but atleast one person broke a pair every day
Things might have changed in 20+ years, but the design is the same atleast
were they cheap or just expensive tat?
Think they were like $150 ish
and I think at some point they had a lifetime warranty, so you could replace them at a store if the broke
eeeeh
$15
not 150 ๐คฃ
the ones I ran were $50NZ each. I went through a pair every three months, so it usually worked out
I haven't broken a pair of headphones in..... 14 years I think
And I throw them around the DC
and the fall off racks and shit
DC?
Datacenter
ah. so you get to play with the clouds all day ๐
Clouds are overrated
I'm the guy standing next to a user going "hmm, your screen isn't working? is it plugged in? Nope? There's the problem"
I prefer proper IT ๐
I'm the guy who fixes servers where the guy who installed it is either retired or dead, or where the partner has given up after troubleshooting for four years
yeah. my little server cupboard in the hallway has a piece of white tape with "The cloud" written on it in sharpie
I run a gen 8 microserver as my file box, and a 5 year old shuttle runs my VMs
I used to run a C3000 blade enclosure + BL460c G7 with 192GB RAM and 24 cores as my main setup, plus a few itanium boxes and some older Intel servers, those are now retired and I just run most stuff on a Dell R510 with 12 cores and 64GB RAM with freenas and jails, and I have a little mini-itx machine I built that hosts my docker enviroment and sandbox \ jumpstation enviroment
my friends go "why don't you use dropbox/onedrive/google drive/etc" and I go "A drive fails, $100. maybe once in a blue moon. That's my maintenance cost. the internet and power are cheap. I have 16tb of storage here.
And I run a pair of HPE Flexfabric 5900AF in my core with 40Gbit crosslinks, and some Aruba 2530 as distribution switches ๐คฃ
not all of it is redundant, and redundancy is my backup. LOL
The R510 has 4x10TB + 4x4TB + 4x2TB + 480GB SSD, I need to replace the 2TBs with 10TBs at some point
I'm running windows server because I have the licenses through uni, and I'm lazy as fuck.
pardon my french
Used to run everything in ESXi, moved over to SUSE and Freenas, because I have two racks of ESXi at work I can play with anyway
and I need some quiet in my studio ๐คฃ
I'm looking at moving to freenas but it's a learning curve and I'm not fully sure of it yet
I do like the idea of moving my storage drives to iscsi and not having a drive bigger than 128gb on any machine including my gaming rig
Operating systems are nothing more than things to host containers on to me :D
Bare metal too. :d
I would probably put my storage on containers if I could be bothered. But I'll leave it on my Synology for now
I understand FreeBSD jails more than I do docker containers so far atleast
i can't iscsi from windows server, so I'm seriously considering moving my storage around to get on to freenas
sure you can ?
< too lazy to figure it out
iSCSI has been supported on Windows server since 2008 atleast
Scality > Ceph ๐
I've got my old microserver as a test bed running freenas. though I wish I'd just sat on the new server and learned freenas on that
For professional development reasons, I think datacentre level storage management is going away for a lot of people
yeah because the cloud means that's just SEP to them now
I think a lot of professional enterprises will be using storage as a service more and more
"Someone Else's Problem"
Anybody with sufficient solar and storage ๐
Off grid systems aren't feasible for most :p
They only really make sense if you have a huge installation cost to get grid connected, like farmers or remote
^ I live in NZ and used to frequently go to great barrier island (not to be confused with the reef in australia) they still don't have mains power there.
But businesses would still be outsourcing the responsibility
Chad from HR isn't going down and fixing generator windings etc
businesses on great barrier are a tin shed with the words "Fish bait" written on them in brushed paint
True
the only commercial space I know of there is the airport
I think we're getting off track :D
My point is, knowing about low level infrastructure won't be that value imo if you're not working for a provider like aws, gcp, etc
More and more and more stuff is being moved to the big 3 at an accelerated pace
yeah
I work for a construction company, the only places that still have in house servers are comms challenged sites like rarotonga, pago pago, etc.
and we're clouding the infrastructure with meraki, so that's going away too
Yeah edge stuff basically
I live like 4000km away from the nearest big 3
I know about the need for on prem for latency reasons if nothing else :D
I've got gigabit fiber to the premises in my house. I only run these servers to keep myself amused, and because I've amassed too much data to warrant throwing it all on the cloud. the storage would be too expensive
some people hoard physical objects, I hoard data.
lol
Yeah I'm building a 3 node bare metal.k8s homelab
I get it
But I have no illusions that playing with real "servers" is a rare and valuable skill anymore
The kubernetes skills are super valuable though
Gigabit ;(
playing with servers is the life ๐
Cries in FttN VDSL2
LOL
Superdome Flex โค
I used to think 9mbps down was good
yeah. I didn't say ADSL2+ where 24mbps down was good (uplink was still shite but that's another story)
If I was pulling 4K content i would feel constrained a bit
For 1080p stuff it comes in 10 times faster than I could watch it
I have unifi here at home, if I do a speedtest it'll be the AP that bottlenecks on my laptop
Yeah if I don't stick to 5ghz my 2.4ghz will bottle neck
Can't even reliably watch 1080p Netflix
I do 500\500 at home and usually get 40-120 on cellular
we get technicolor rebranded crap here for vendor provided router
I use a second hand HG659 because my grandfather still wants his telephone line, but it's off in a walled garden off my USG, just for the phone line and nothing else
the technicolor thing would lock up every two hours even after I'd deprovisioned it to just be an ATA
the huawei is more stable
I'm jealous of the guys who have vendors that provide fritzbox as their vpr
Distraction of the month at the time anyways
We have netcomm stuff all over our nbn
Cough nbn chairman owns NetComm cough cough
netcomm is aight. I use one of their m2m gateways when I travel
because where I go, getting any internet I need to leave it with a battery up on a hill somewhere, and point two yagis at eachother from a distance to connect
I read about a Telstra tech who worked in Darwin
too many valleys and not enough customers to bother putting a cell tower in that area.
satellite is no fun.
we had a site in kiribati that was satellite
and I had to remote control machines with dameware over that.
those were late late nights
move the mouse. wait. four to six seconds later you'd see if the remote cursor was moving towards what you were aiming for.
Need quantum entanglement modems
you certainly needed to increase your TTLs on some things
Ssh over mosh works well for that sort of stuff
GUIs and remote connections are not fun
I joked that IPoAC would have been faster at one point
AC?
IP over Avian Carrier
luckily the worst site now is rarotonga and we now use connectwise control which is 10x more resilient than dameware
Is this end user support?
yup
the bean counters wouldn't have liked that.
some users though. it's a wonder I'm not going grey
particularly the ones that go "Can you fix the internet, it's going slow."
oh and the clincher on the raro site? The main exchange is across the road from the office
and when we were first mobilizing to there, they had a major fire in that exchange. it took out comms on the entire island for like a month and a bit
and there's no carrier competition. it's bluesky or no connection.
I thought laser was how fibre worked. iono. I'm not an infra guy.
Yeah, but not in the GW range ๐
I did my CCNA. I was going to be an infra guy. right as i completed CCNA4 they changed the exam and I'd have had to completely redo the modules to do the exam. I didn't bother.
I should do a CCNA at some point, lots of projects demand them
now I'm just "that guy that knows networks"
๐คฃ
my crowning achievement is a wireless mesh network that scaled a 2500 acre farm
and then our ISP decided the WiMAX we were using to get our signal wasn't cost effective any more and they discontinued it.
and then we gave up on it, so now the equipment is all goneski.
๐คฃ
I'll probably stick to my 12000 access port and 1500 access point deployment
with 802.1x on everything
heh..sonos quickly climed the top blocked domains in pihole...shame shamme
trying to send metrics..
I was actually surprised who was my big talker last I bothered checking
the HUE hub called home every 30 seconds, the xiaomi gateway twice a day
yeah, i heard that...HUE was a massive reporter
was actually the pihole creator mentioning hue in an interview (podcast)
top here is the tahoma integration in hass..lol..big spammer ๐ฆ
probably should open an issue on that
well,. not blocked but..still..does a lot of requests
Ah nice, I have configured an IPv6 tunnel in my enviroment again
I forgot to recreate it a few years ago ๐คฃ
you guys get to have all the fun while i'm sleeping, it's no fair ๐ฆ
damn time zones

there it is
I should get my VCP-NV sorted
I think I have full access to hands on labs in the vmware partner university
@clear ferry I get nice native IPv6 to the house.

8ms latency with a HE tunnel isn't too bad though
let me login and see ๐คฃ
@clear ferry I used to work with my ISP, and setup a lot of the infrastructure that allows the IPv6 to work. Decent router for the job as well
Maybe you should apply for that. Devops and infra are the same oui?
IPv6 is still black magic to me and a lot of people
Need to rip that bandaid off though
Hey it's close to me @hushed basalt
And I know a guy who works there
Good oral and written ability in Norwegian, as well as good English skills sounds like you @hushed basalt
I'm not applying for that though, devops is not for me and the pay is probably half of what I'm looking for right now ๐คฃ
woo my first edit of docs was approved
now to find some more for hacktoberfest ๐คฃ
Devops is pretty hot pay here
Even though DevOps is a stupid title
I wouldn't even know how to use a keyboard in Norway
US English is all I know
RIP muscle memory
@hushed basalt You'll be glad to know you can use a US keyboard in any other country. There's these great standards like USB and Bluetooth which don't care about your keyboard layout, and every OS I've used has allowed easy changing of keyboard mapping.
@hushed basalt we have standard qwerty plus our extra keys mostly
worse with the german qwertz and the french azerty
I have muscle memory for NOB and US
So I can use both with ease
๐คฃ
@strange vapor but then I'll be 'that guy' who carries a keyboard Around :D
I did it at a previous company where there was every bloody EU keyboard and Japanese keyboards.
I use 7 different physical computers at the moment. Annoys the shit out of me
wonder if I can manage to create a custom component ๐ค
No one needs a custom component to tell us what you're listening to
But but, There is no component for iDRAC ๐คฃ
๐คฃ
@hushed basalt I go between my Work MacBook Pro which has the silly half UK/half US layout, a Dell XPS with UK keyboard and a few desktops with normal UK layout, or MS Natural 4000 split keyboard.
Takes a second or two to adjust after sitting down, and then all is good..
I can just look at the hp_ilo component I guess, and get a good sense of how that works ๐ค
Ususally @ and " that clue me in quicly to what keyboard I'm on.

I use the same trackball. Did a nasty job on my wrist with RSI years ago ๐ฆ

what is your opinion of smart watches?
anyone using one?
is it useful apart from looking a good and expensive gadget one do not really need?
i have been holding on to my pebble time round for dear life
Pebble FTW
Using a Garmin these days after I broke my last Pebble ๐ฆ
I also have a WearOS (TicWatch) device, and it's not as good a watch, but a better smart device overall
That gets more use than either of my Pebble's these days
Tried an Apple Watch, but the daily recharging was just a mess. Garmin will last for weeks on a single charge.
Yeah, having to recharge the watch daily is a PITA
Doesn't have some of the fancy app stuff the Apple watch has, but the ability to quickly see a message or see who's inevitably calling during a meeting and decline is handy!
@clever mortar my pebble time round is down to only one day of battery life... i know the battery's going but i can't find a replacement
Howdy!
Please DO NOT cross post. Read the channel description, post it and wait for folks to respond.
^ also that's a joke, don't worry
i need music control, otherwise i'd consider it
I control music on the headphones or computer
well i don't
I just realised that I haven't used my Pebble since I replaced my phone, and the watchface app (Glance) is no longer available... FFS

out of all those special emoji you can post, i'm the most jealous of that one
i can use my off-brand one though
Not that many Tesla's here today, just a lot of BMW's
Oh right they moved the charging stations one floor up
Quite a few BMW i8s here though
@clever mortar you can probably dig up a glance apk right?
Yeah, I'm gonna have to go track it down
Annoying to have to though, WTF did the dev unpublish it
@clear ferry also to clarify, i added a new reference to a secret in configuration.yaml and clicking reload core got rid of the configuration check error
not sure if it was a fluke or not
Fun fact, I did not know that android phones become little desktops with mouse and keyboard support when connecting them to a usb c to hdmi adapter
I just wanted to charge and suddenly I had a desktop on a projector

thinking about getting one
also I've purchased an IKEA desk thank you for the input on that topic too
it seems quite good so far
I like it, I am looking forward using it
Apple watch is a bit on the pricey side
and also I hate that one day battery life
so maybe i will check other ones
If you run 24/7 it makes you die faster too
did someone say .Apple.... ๐ฑ
how nice of them (Tile)..the new trackers you can actually replace battery ๐
thats not an apple product... Otherwise I have to burn mine
you could do that before too btw - just needed an soldering iron and the willing to cut into your fingers
quite aware its not an Apple product..then you would never see them in my posession ๐
freaking hate apple ๐
@hearty depot just not worth the bucks to solder..plus my eyes are too weak anyway... they are pretty cheap under that replacement deal
@hearty depot that was pretty funny
@copper sequoia how nice of tile no not make any noise when I need to find my keys
how nice of tile telling me that it needed to be rebooted
don't get all tiled riled up now
what is the point of buying tile if it does not work...
@brisk glen mine work...dunno about yours ..but return them?
1.5 years i think this one is now...just got warning of dying battery
should be 1 year anways, if its the US you are in
same in EU btw..1 year.

I used fdisk (gpt) and it's okay... strange
Hmmm
This is one of the big things that makes me stay away from Pis as 'servers'
Having to find work arounds for the sd wear etc
hey i'm new to home assistant... have a basic setup going w/ all my connected devices, just got my first sonoff going, etc.
i'm using a pi as my "server"... anyone have any insight into when i might start seeing SD card issues?
i'm basically trying this out to see if I can rely on it, and will upgrade to better hardware if i determine to keep moving forward
keep backups and don't pull the plug on it ever - always shutdown first. 99% of the time restart Home Assistant...... card can last years if you do that. Also make sure your power supply is correct or over spec
tune down your history component too. that'll limit the writes
yes! good point
@clear ferry - Old message, but re: Billie Eilish - Bad Guy. Sitting through the Brightburn movie was worth it for that as the closing credits song.

ok, so i don't know if this should be in homeassistant or not, since im in early brainstorm mode, but i have an idea.
i'm in the process of finishing my basement to take a rasp pi and mount it on the wall with a 7-10" screen. I'd like this to control my lights, link it to music, and maybe some other features. Would i need some smart switches in all my boxes for the app to connect to? do the Lutron dimmer switches work well?

AFAIK the Hue bridge can really only be used for lights and smart plugs

tbh I have no need for a good iron like that, but it looks cool. The same way I kinda want a chinese "VG10" chefs knife, just because it looks sexy...
I'm not sure since VMware sites is under maintenance @hearty depot , but I think that card was supported until 6.0 atleast, might have been dropped at 6.5 and later

But I'm a finance guy not a programmer, so it's a bit intimidating
lol - nice snippet
python3.7 -m http.server 8080 --bind $(ip addr | grep -Po '(?!(inet 127.\d.\d.1))(inet \K(\d{1,3}\.){3}\d{1,3})' )
@hushed basalt and I'm assuming it's touchlink compatible if I get the right hardware?
Best bet is to buy a preflashed stick with antenna off the homeassistant forums
If you search cc2531 antenna homeassistant you'll find it
Then all you need to do is install zigbee2mqtt on anything with a usb and network port. Can be the same device as your homeassistant, or a raspberry pi by itself
And add a mqtt server as well
I think hass.io can do a lot of this point and click
Try #zigbee-archived for details
Or just get an off-the-shelf radio and use ZHA...
Or Conbee and use deconz
Let's not forget that those are viable options too
Taking home assistant out of the equation for a moment (because I'm trying to figure out what keeps crashing it), which of these solutions can I use without home assistant?
Basically it's not allowed to say these words here ๐
@chilly nymph the Hue platform is rock solid
@boreal pewter I'm going to use it again and in fact have it running. But I just want to get something working in the short term
I just sent this in a PM to @scenic radish but see below
My issue right now is time commitment. I'm selling myself short when I say I'm just a finance guy, as I've contributed to Foss before. But the reality is I work 60 hours a week right now in finance and am in the middle of a move. My short term goal is to set up zigbee lights with remotes of some sort, hoping to spend minimal time on initial setup.
My new place does not have light switches. The bedrooms have "pull strings" to turn on the lights. I don't own, so I can't do any wiring.
You can use the Hue bridge and its hardware by itself and then integrate it into HA later if you want
It's still not allowed to talk about home assistant HERE ๐คท
Get some Hue dimmers and bulbs, connect them to the bridge, and you're good to go
Oh. Yeah, I'm trying to do this without home assistant at the moment @boreal pewter
So.... That's why I thought that this was the best place to talk about it? It was a non home assistant hardware question that I asked
You're not just buying hardware, you're buying support for the hardware and future software updates
It's a solid system. Generally regarded as one of the best
I was given the bridge and given a smartthings hub. I also have a wink hub but I'm trying to transition off that
If you want a setup that requires minimal fuss, Hue is the way to go
I also want something that supports touchlink because a lot of the remotes out there are touchlink. It seems like they both do
The app could be better but it's improved at least
The bridge does support touchlink, but I'm not familiar with what third party hardware works with it. You'd have to research that
I'm ok with using something like zigbee2mqtt or another USB stick if I can use it/set it up on a standalone basis until I get HA stable
I will say I picked up some tradfri remotes for $0.99 at Ikea last night and they are surprisingly responsive. I paired 2 directly to a bulb
Much more responsive than the lutron connected bulb remote I have, which surprised me
Yeah I have build something Tradfri too when I got my new cupboards but I use just Zigbee and the Conbee2 as gateway
I connected the bulb to my wink hub for the moment
That looks nice. Are those lights battery powered?
No those are the Ledberg Spots as well from Ikea, 3x4 from which I use 11 there
4 spots were 13โฌ, I cut off the connector and put some Amazon JST Connectors on it
Pretty clean for being wired
And they are plug n play in the 30w driver
I'm wondering if there is a refresh coming because the bulbs were $1.99 and the remotes were $0.99 "while supplies last"
Well for the bottles I tinker with 3 of these: https://www.ikea.com/de/de/p/dioder-lichtleiste-led-weiss-30420556/
And then I want to put a flexlight around the cubboards to lighten 90ยฐ at the wall https://www.ikea.com/de/de/p/ledberg-flexible-lichtleiste-led-weiss-40359695/
Yeah, I have built some modded IKEA tradfri for my cabinets too
With 5050 LEDs connected to the IKEA drivee
I think you just need the JST connectors and then you can actually put anything on it
My jsts didn't fit
So I opened the box and attached some old jst connectors I had to the LEDs and reused a jst 4way that matched that by soldering it inside the tradfri driver
I tried some like that on the other tradfri driver I have, but I had to chip the sides with a knife to go in ๐
That just sounds completely wrong ๐ Mine have space in all directions
That's what she said
Ugh growing the library is such a maintenancing task /mnt/google/tnt:/mnt/google/tnt-gd 1.1P 11T 1.1P 1% /home/anon/downloads/tnt
Nah I use shorting for my trackers
What kind of storage is backing that 1.1P ?
Google ๐
Encryption

Currently it works great again for my end. The up and downloading is outsourced to an external dedicated server, plex there servers other people using my library and cloud is mounted at my end also on the deskmini serving my own plex and 4k works great yet
I might need to look into that then
I wouldn't mind a mirror of all my "stuff" atleast
And both machines do backups via duplicati in a Not encrypted mount
You could save 10 years of backups easily ๐
I also found out that I tested my preferred torrent client wrong and when retesting it it was actually fine ๐คฆ
I guess this isnt google drive?
A big Google drive
holy, must be expensive, I think I pay 20โฌ for 100G
care to tell how youre mounted it?
Well, it is a business account, so Gsuite. It's drive is unlimited for about 10 bucks a month
really... ๐ค
I would know someone who has 20 PB to back up
(everyday around 5 TB of new data)
There are many "tutorials" out there which are about "Using unlimited cloud storage on your linux server" and so on. They all just go about: "Get a domain, get a Gsuite account, verify the domain in Google and mount the Gdrive via rclone and a fuse mount"
Tho when I started out: Don't use any of these "all in one" tutorials. They're mostly outdated, like using Plexdrive and shit
I would look up each step by it's own to get a newly updated 2019 way of doing so
I'm actually only intrested bout an regular encrypted filecloud connection for my pc + 2 laptops
Doesn't hurt to also at least use it for server backups as well
But for Windows backup I still use Backblaze, since I have paid for another 10 month as of now I think
ok.. 3 pc's +2 laptops then ๐คฃ
So I dunno really how that could work on windows
dont own a windows device anyway

hey @wet pilot can you take a look at a Q I posted in #330944238910963714 please?
hahaha
I still can't decide on a tv
I looked at the 55" LG OLED. It was noice
But I feel like it's not big enough
there's an equation for that
might need to replace this DHT11 not as reliable
The 65" stuff looked nice
But price skyrockets
The samsung q60 qled 65" seems like a good compromise
But it's got 2.4ghz wifi only :o
Plus Samsung Bixby ๐คข
Do you have an Apple TV or something so you can ignore the TV OS stuff
Yeah I've got that
Just don't get a Samsung
I guess the good thing with the LG is the notifications and better HA integration
Has a reason that the LG's are the best in any test
I might wait for black Friday
And spring for a 65" LG OLED
Just walking around the store I could instantly tell which panels were OLED or not before reading the stickers
The hisense oled was pretty rubbish though
got me some nocuna noctuna fans to make my pc a little quieter- now its gotten louder?.. Why the f
Noctua.. ๐คท
Has a reason that there is a brand called "Be Quiet" and it's fans cost 20โฌ each
oh yea - meand to ask you - do you set up a company for google thingy
Yeah you have to own a domain and register for the business stuff
Not all Noctua fans are lower noise than the things you replace
well - got a domain bot not an buisness
You don't need to have a real business which you pay tax for and such
I have a Google Apps domain, had it for years, don't have a business
You just need to register at google for the business stuff and all they require is a domain
Heck, there's an option in there for I'm not a business
@hearty depot and yeah I have 6x 140mm Silent Wings in each PC here, The Dark Rock Pro4 and always a triple-fan GPU and my fucking external 8TB drive is louder than the PC
The forums of http://www.silentpcreview.com are good source of information on fans and stuff
The archives there are also useful, but the site hasn't been active in years now ๐ฆ
argh back - The Rizen realy dont like the intel ram ๐ I shouldnt cheap out and finally buy a 3200mhz one
I think the vibarations from the graphics card are killing me here
Heck I must be on the wrong page then
I think there is nothing more silent than the Silent Wings...
Maybe some get "near" to it
Ugh so annoying, I got the One Piece episodes up to 629 on German and from there on I'm ripping the subbed episodes from a streaming site and I have to work through each link
Up to yet 900+
stopped around 270 or so
not at all far - Just looked into it a little and started to apply for an account - but there wasnt a I'm not a business option so I stepped back for the day - Still on trying to get this old network card to work..
atm digging throu silentpcreview and have to repair the automations for the remotes - wich stopped for some reason
lol well the google setup is really just a 3 steps procedure or so, Just thinking of some name and doing domain verification. You should start with that early since it could take 24 hours for verification
That step is actually well explained in any of the all-in-one tutorials
Only found deam outdated AIO tuts ๐
Just looked throu the rsync forum for snippets
Just start one by one. Do your google setup, then setup rclone and get systemd units for that and then do your mergerfs mounts
systemd unit files aren't hard to write from scratch if needed
Well the rclone options are and for that I had to look around a bit..
I've never run rclone (https://rclone.org) as a service I'll have to admit
A single option can make the difference to run 4k or not ๐
Google home mini for $20 now
Where?
Obs
But they say it is only an offer in store
And only today
Which makes no sense
FFS... ๐คฆ

Yes to stores open on Sundays
I love the argument against it is that people will be forced to work on Sundays
I know that when I worked in a store I wish we were open on Sundays so I could get more hours๐
Remember when I moved to Ireland
And could shop on Sundays

that doesn't seem to be an issue currently either ๐ฆ

haha. "Hey Gรธรธgle รrder chรธcรธlate." I'm sorry Dave, I can't let you do that. You're too fat.
hehe... or "sorry, your fitbit show too little activity, ordering apples."
but it could be useful.. if u could tie it into like the shopping list component...i wouldnt order stuff automatically, but could add it to the cart.

Fancy, new tax cuts on electric cars
You can get a BMW i3 with_all_ extras and maximum range for about $40k
And a well equipped and full range vw golf for $31k
Electric cars are finally getting interesting to me when they start getting 400km range
The only one that had done that traditionally was the Tesla, but it is a rubbish car
I'm looking for 4 smart thermostats that work well with HA. Budget is $100 USD (for each unit). Nest E seems like it would work, but at $160 seems overpriced.
#330944238910963714 would be where to ask
if i need help with ESPhome where do i go? ๐
to be specific, esphome and uln2003
sorry, found it
@clear ferry yeah the interior trim materials on the Teslas is basically equivalent to my car which is 19,000 USD new lol
In other words, unimpressive
the roller coaster feeling when mashing on the accelerator only goes so far
Anyone know of any handy device where you can have one audio out, two audio in (preferably in phono) and will always prefer one input if there's signal?
No shortage of simply manual switches, it's ones which will do the equivalent of ducking a signal
So, a sensing audio device
Should be.. makeable with some logics that react to voltage change I guess
hmm, need to figure it out. Possibly need to look at how a good old fashion side chain works on a compressor for ducking!
@strange vapor you could try doing it all digitally
A RPI with a audio HAT that has two inputs and one output if that's an option
I have been searching for Bluetooth speakers for my patios. I want two speakers that connect with a cord. Battery operated and not a rock.....I want to mount them to the roof over my patio. The rock speakers are exactly what I want but mounting a rock to the over hang over my patios would look strange.
could get normal speakers and an amp with blutooth support?
A battery operated amp?
why not just wire everything?
Attach them to a bicycle generator
Then you can work out while you listen to music ๐ฏ
Any way to see when someone was last online? Found a ripper deal that Phil Hawthorne would likely be keen on.

Hi guys, Do you know why we can't change our nickname on this server? I want to change mine to match my Github account.
What would be the reason to disable it?
Typical ddos way, get 100 users to change their nick at the same time
Discord is hosted on a 1Mbit connection you know
You say tha as a joke, but sometimes it feels like that is the case
Btw @ocean mirage have you seen the ehx c9 /b9 pedals? I want em
@light trout I never joke
Yeah they look like some fun. I probably wouldnโt do anything productive with them though, just fuck around
Haha yeah but probably not a good buy for me right now
I recently got a strymon flint, not sure if I said
I had a timeline previously but thatโs a pedal for a gigging musician, sort of a pain to just fiddle with at home
I want some rack effects at some point, with midi controls that I can control from the guitar
Like Bellamy of muse
He uses a Kaosspad I believe

You are such a caveman
Og hit rocks
I enjoy playing around with the order of my pedals, and find new fun rings
I might have selective autism ๐
I remember when I played a concert in Barcelona, they just gave us some random amps, I got a 4x12 fender bassmann, it was nice, but it was way too loud
And I was way too drunk to turn it down ๐
Wasnโt 4x10?
Might have been, see comment about drunk above ๐
It was a head and speaker cabinet
Ahh okay
So not a combo
Iโve never played one but my amp is a clone of a jtm45, which is based on a tweed baseman
I wanted to build a bassman clone actually
I have a vox ac50 head and a Hughes and kettner 100w head right now, going into a 4x12 I've split in two for stereo or 2x mono when I do synth and guitar together
Aye, the TC electronic pedals really make good stereo output
I have one at the end of my chain for that purpose
๐
Let people enjoy their garbage
I donโt like it but itโs got the woman from the Dancing in the Dark film clip
I don't think I have followed any show with a laugh track
Except fresh Prince
But that was before we had choices on TV ๐คท ๐คท
Most of what I see have that ๐
Seinfeld had one right?
yes, it had a combination of that and an audince that laguhed on cue
Reminds me, I need to watch Seinfeld, I have it but I have only watched whatever episode was on TV like 20 years ago
I'm still at a loss to what TV to get :(
65" oled is so nice but the price is crazy
That level I may as well go UST projector and get an 120" screen
I'll probably settle on the 65" Samsung QLED.
802.11n 2.4ghz is a bit of a joke though :/
How much a price difference between the OLED and QLED
About $2000
Yeah wow
Sounded like you like the OLED but I guess prices will come down in years
My current tv is a 46"Samsung LCD from 2005
I think I'll get the 65" QLED and turn it into a bedroom tv when we get a house
And get a UST projector for the main area
Shame the wifi is rubbish in the samsung
But my house would have ethernet anyways
Yeah that sounds like a solid plan to me
Iโll be shopping for TVs at some stage and might end up with the same one
The Q60 65" samsung looked quite good at the price point
The hisense OLEDs didn't look good even though they're cheap
The LG looked noice. If you were getting 55" I'd get the LG hands down
But over 55" OLED is just bad value imo
Iโm probably going 65 inch
Current 1080 tv is 55
Certain 65 inch stands wonโt fit on the tv unit though
Yeah I likely will walk mount anyway but Iโd like to just get it home and quick setup at first
That should fit
๐ฅ
I am also buying a 65โ tv but I am goong for Sony
oled has better picture but that glossy effect is so irritating

What glossy effect do you mean stefan? Reflections?
My brother has the last year's LG Oled, B8 I think and I didn't notice anything special and looking at the rtings list they should be one of the best TVs to handle reflections. https://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/picture-quality/reflections-screen-finish-matte-and-glossy
Yeah the LGs are superb in OLED
My boss bought one
$5000 :/
Didn't get a pay rise but my boss bought a $5k tv on company account for his lounge room
Aaaaaaandddd guess who's looking for a new job
@clear ferry is
Capitalism be like
ah pretty new blue switches in the UI...i guess it now matches the header color ..devs been drinking coolaid maybe?
Hi all, not sure where to ask this but having problems with HA restarting randomly
thanks TED
This song was a lot darker than I though, I was unsure of the lyrics and had to Google some German
The music video is very good though
Hi guys. I am trying to run Mosquitto broker. I installed the plugin but i cannot start it. Does it have issues?
thank you @clever mortar
What is the correct channel to ask about device recommendations (or is there one?) I'm trying to decide on some devices that integrate well with Home Assistant and wanted the input of some of you with more experience than me. ๐
I also have some questions about the merits/disadvantages of getting a bunch of Wi-Fi devices on one network. (I'm not fimiliar with Hue or Zwave etc)
Start with #330944238910963714 @mortal solar
what's good guys and gals? its beer thirty and the nats are winning ๐

Not exactly home automation, but: https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/musically-synced-car-windscreen-wipers-using-raspberry-pi/
Perfect for my musical OCD
Is Zwave+ any more responsive / reliable on a larger computer vs. a raspberry pi? I have a specific use for a z-wave network, and then I also like the other home automation stuff. I'm wondering if tis better to keep the systems isolated.
Well, #zwave-archived would be the best place to ask
maybe this is more lounge appropriate....
Me: get radio thermostat, it's zwave plus so we can use it for load controls.....
one month later.....
Client: so I bought three $500 Nests....
one month later.....
HVAC guy: so these units only work with Econet Cloud thermostats
๐ซ
Yea its been wild. Bunch of lessons learned on this "lets run the largest electrical load on the cheapest energy products" project. It's amazing how far the "latest and greatest dev mode" vs. the "older more stable" build philosophy goes in a high tech home. Obviously you dont want to use obsolete stuff, but if we had stuck to older technologies we'd have much less problems.
the only thing worst than the thermostat debacle is the husband's refusal to let the cable boxes go
resulting in expensive analog cable-over-ethernet splitters and infrared relay issues (whcih the husband does not like)... whereas every friggen TV is smart, with plex, and the coop is putting in fiber next year (right now they are on DSL)
this guy's refusal to not have cable TV for ~12 months has added like $8k cost and a worse user experience to the smart home project. the wife (who makes the money) is awesome though so its really just the husband appeasement budget
kind of a role reversal there
Hi Guys, first time here and first time on discord. I've just started playing around with home assistant and decided this is the route I want to go for my new house we are building this spring!
I've watched the rapid development that's been going on with home assistant and it's impressive! I wouldn't say money is no object on our new home, but I would rather spend a little more for quality. Like John mentioned, I don't want to go with obsolete technology, but I don't want to be the on bleeding edge and have headaches. What would you guys go with for light switches?
i've had good luck with zwave
It seems like Lutron Radio RA2 integration is semi-limited at this point, but that could change in the future.
@static plinth $500 nests?! how tf were they $500
@wet pilot What zwave switches do you use?
GE/Honeywell/Jansco
Jansco is the actual manufacturer. GE and Honeywell throw their branding on top. they're the same thing though
they require the neutral line, but that won't be a problem for you with new construction
@wet pilot you'd be surprised...
(i'm also assuming US)
From what I've read, only Lutron and Leviton have the Hail command and update right away, otherwise you have to poll the network. Do you find that to be much of an issue?
Correct, I'm in the US.
that patent expired apparently
