you are right
So:
I will purchase a XB271 HUA Acer soon ( 61,4cm x 55,1cm x 26,8cm with stand)
- my keyboard is around 25cm and i need a bit space for my hands to rest and a proper viewing distance. Which more info you need?
monitor is like this
not that bad with space actually
how much free space do you want between you and the keyboard
Check the back of the monitor, almost certainly that's a universal VESA mount you can replace
im not sure. because currently i am using kind of a kitchen desk, and i cannot get the arms of the chair below it, so i cannot go properly in with the chair, so my hands are resting alternatively
how much space do you have guys for your hands?
you rest it on the arms of the chair or the desk?
usually
I don't have arms on the chair...
At work, it kind of depends on what's going on. If I'm chatting, it's likely the arms of the chair. If I'm working but thinking, it's the desk
I see
as is see now the perfect viewing distance for a 27" is around 79 cm
but min 43cm
maybe i need to get a separate stand for the computer
somehow I hate it on the floor
and then 150x75 would be perfect
I do a triple 24" stand, the distance is great for that for me
I have two desktops on the table too, behind each of the side screens
I want to downsize my desktop
It's only a mid sized case too, but it's such a waste of space
I don't have any 3.5" drives or 5.25" drives in it but it can hold 8 and 2
I'm looking at getting a smaller desk too
My current one is 180 wide but I'm thinking 120
ah yeah fair enough
The rest is just somewhere crap accumulates and goes over my filing cabinet and desktop on the floor
any idea what case you wanna move to?
Not sure. I want to get a new laptop. So i might just go down that route with a dock
Surface laptop 3 looks niiiiiiiicceee
I would need something for my wife to use when I have the laptop away
But a second hand optiplex i7 would probably cover that need
$300 for that and $3000 for the laptop 😧
Yeah oof
I'm not sure what to do with my gtx 1060 though
I've got the 2017 surface pro and its nice, I probably would have bought an actual laptop if I bought again, so surface laptop could be nice
Yeah i have a sp4
It's a great machine but yeah the tablet thing sucks
Real hinges and keyboards for the win
Yeah, and I likely could have gone something cheaper and better performing (not that performance is a big factor for me)
No thunderbolt 3 in the surface laptop 3 :/
But I already have a surface dock so that's okay
If I was a creative professional I would be like wtf microsoft
I have never used thunderbolt in any form afaik
ah yeah
Fast external raids, eGPUs, 10gbe+, etc
Although personally I'm a fan of real desktops with pcie slots for that sort of stuff. Sorry Apple.
But yeah I've been waiting for a good laptop to come out. And the surface book 3 looks Amazing
Surface laptop 3 **
So confusing.
I might wait till I can look at it in JB hifi though
yeah for that sort of thing I always try actually use the device first
that feeling you get is important
Yeah I looked at the Dell XPS laptops in person
Glad i did because I didn't like them at all
yeehaa, moved homeassistent to vmware photon
I've just spent the past few days learning about home assistant.. I really love it. I have a lot of stuff I need to integrate and stuff, but its fun learning lol
Mmm -2.8C outside
its 16c here, still very warm during the day
We get 6ish today I think
Tomorrow night will be -5.6 it says
Thankfully I have 3000 liters of firewood too, because I suspect this is going to be a cold winter
We will probably be staying around -30 for the colder parts
50F outside right now (10C). Perfect sleeping weather
I enjoyed 40C in Rhodes, but that was with the Mediterranean wind
Which soothes a lot
Btw, if anyone needs a flashed CC2531 I have six spare ones and equipment to flash 😂
I found three which were never delivered to me, some guy who had the same address as me in a neighbouring town reached out
I would if you weren’t across the world
Fricking postal service
@ocean mirage costs me nothing to ship it by letter to Barbie land
It’s gotta sizzle
Putting the magic smoke back in...
Considering its Aussie theme, it either needs to be a crackling distortion or a surf chorus
Or.... Both in series
I do need a chorus
Chorus got so many parts
Or, buy one pre-made 😛
I should try the antenna mod on one of them
Damnit! Lights in my hall stopped responding (Hue), and I assumed it as the battery on the sensor. Replaced the batteries on the sensor. Nothing.
Just after spotting another switch for those lights I had no idea was there as it was behind the damn fridge! It had gotten touched off by pushing the fridge back.
I'm assuming it's the original switch for the hall lights which was hidden when the previous owners put in a new kitchen 🙂
Remember 1990 where you turned lights on and off with a switch?
In 1990 I remember disassembling an electric toy car and putting it back together
I enjoy seeing what makes stuff tick
Makes me sound like a serial killer
🔪
@clever mortar involves shipping one from the EU
Tinkerer is away for 55m 16s with a message :point_right: Searching for any sign of intelligent life...
I suspect the shipping is like 5 times the cost of the cc2531
In ten years we'll talk about how we used use these usb sticks to control our lights
By then everything will probably have their own 7G modems
Shipping tracked from Norway to Australia would be $24, untracked is $4 😛
It costs $8 to send 500g from suburb to suburb here
That's tracked but not signed
I don't think we have an option for untracked domestic parcels
Gud News Everyone
My contract got extended. I'm with this outfit till the end of the year
🎉 ❤ 🎉
Also I'm thinking about getting Back into HA. I just need to work up the motivation to jump back into my Rats Nest of a set up
Who's got no documentation? This GUY 😂
@valid halo I hate people like you
😂 😂 😂
I worked with a customer where the network guy did no documentation
Then he died
So they called me
I hate me too Micheal
"Golly I can't remember what I was doing and what was set up. So now I feel like nuking mysetup and starting from scratch"
I hate me too
@clear ferry a photon vm with HA idles at 1%
docker desktop? doing nothing? 3%-5%
plus.... I can use host networking mode 😛
v3 is out
if you consider the latest commit of 2 days ago dead
photon is the os to use if you are using vmware
and kube / docker
None of my customers use it for anything 😛
lol
And I mingle with the biggest VMware users in the country
it is too new for a lot of places
Norway is very traditional though, if it works don't fix it
I doubt it, I still see esxi 5.0 in the wild 😂
Heck, I repaired a alphaserver 1000 last year 😛
And moved a k-class the year before that
Old hardware never dies really
Which is a good job protection for me the next 20+ years 😂
Because all my colleges who worked with it are either retired or dead
And I'm only 35 🤷
heh
I'm finally getting some of they mythical experience everyone wants
@light trout "You were removed from HACS (team HACS). " huh? Just wanted to help :P
You are still there ;)
Then thats an interesting Email :D
Yeah, you get that one when I move you into a group with some more privileges
Ahh lol! They could've done that better :D
Move failed successfully @fathom hound
Phew, ordered parts for the zigbee2mqtt antenna mod
.... macOS launchd system makes me want to kill myself
isnt that what systemd took inspration from
@serene mortar I'm sure someone has already thought of this but might I suggest a automation channel seems fitting but not a big deal really
The above is really for any mod just wanted to call someone's attention to it.
anyone know any decent zigbee/zwave heat alarms?
Isnt that like getting a xioami sensor and a sonos speaker
plug them into hass and you have a heat alarm ?
want an actual for purpose one, i have a heap of crap i could cobble together but would prefer to rely on something purpose built
maybe a PLC controller?
something like this, but am hoping for recommendations http://www.climax.com.tw/new/hd9zb.php
also any bushfire detectors would be cool too
Where do you live @silver furnace , there’s a couple of bushfire integrations for Australia
Ok there’s only sensors for QLD and NSW. Not one for Vic yet it seems
oh you mean using online alerting services? i can deal with that easily enough
i more meant detectors of high heat at a reasonable range
that is a good idea though
fair enough
i already do something similar with the country fire authority's pager dispatch messages, i geocode addresses and map references to lat/lng and calculate vincenty distance from locations of interest (my house, friends houses etc) and receive alerts if they are within a defined radius of those locations
You should create an integration for Victoria. A lot of people would find that useful I reckon
not really lawful to distribute the pager messages, fine to receive but vic ESTA gets shitty if you start making them available to others
i'll make an integration for the vicalert data which is public
Awesome!
in the meantime, still taking recommendations for heat alarms and bushfire alarms 😄
at some point im also intending to figure out how to pump my pool out of piping near my guttering if bushfire super close
some people in the area used petrol pumps to do the same thing during the last big bushfire nearby, but the bushfire consumed too much of the oxygen and the petrol wouldnt combust
so will likely have to be electric with big battery
Anyone familiar with the hubitat elevation hub? Seems to be like it has zigbee, zwave, and clearconnect. I'm not interested in hubitat itself, but being able to cut down on the number of hubs would be nice if I can get an mqtt bridge of some sort going
@chilly nymph zigbee2mqtt and zwave2mqtt
That's what I'm doing, powered off my IKEA hub already
Xiaomi next
Then hue, and finally telldus
Zigbee2mqtt is awesome
I returned my ikea hub
Didn't do 1/10th of zigbee2mqtt
Zwave doesn't really seem that common in Aus
Well stuff that is good value at least
Xiaomi and Ikea are the only ZigBee things I use
yea. zigbee2mqtt works great for me, though it seems to rage is around deconz. I haven't used it.
I had a bad experience with Zigbee2mqtt yesterday, had to re-pair
And I need to add an antenna because of the placement
I havne't had that happen yet. I'm worried it might someday and if I update firmware. My firmware is really old.
I'm running bleeding edge on both firmware and docker version😂
Weekend!!... fuck - overslept the saturday.. deam
Weekend? What is that?
the time of the week where youre more then usual exposed to your wife, and that thing what is already almost over.
No idea what you are talking about
From a guy who usually works weekends, but now does babytime in weekends while wife works on master's 😂
do you even sleep?
dead/dad 😵
bout you sound fine xD
Who has time for sleep when you work 600h overtime per year and have on duty every 4 weeks 😛
This year I've had neither of those
Just a baby
@clear ferry hmm. I'll look into it. I thought zigbee2mqtt was for a USB zigbee radio.
#zigbee-archived would be where to talk about it, but yes it is...
@clever mortar appreciate it.
I'm having a hard time understanding the rules in this server when it comes to channels. I seem to be a repeat offender, and I'm not trying to be. I understand the signal to noise ratio issue.
Legitimate question though: if I'm talking about one thing (in this case, hardware), and someone brings up software that I can use instead of that hardware -- am I supposed to respond in another channel?
More that if the conversation goes on, it's worth taking it to the place it's on topic
Ok.
There are many folks who are experts on a single thing, and if you post in random places they'll never see your post
#zigbee-archived and #zwave-archived are two of those things
I get it. I'm just trying to follow the rules, that's all. I don't think I was going to drag the conversation any further than "oh, I thought it was for a USB stick and if so that's not quite what I'm looking for"
Well... maybe it is if you're looking for less hubs 😉
Home Assistant can talk directly with Zigbee and Z-Wave devices if you add a USB stick
Well yes, but more because I'm looking for fewer "pieces" to break
Ah, but more pieces means that if one thing breaks, only that thing breaks
If my Z-Wave stick fails, all I lose is Z-Wave
If I used an all-in-one hub setup, I'd lose everything
Tbh if some devices suddenly stop working and others are fine, I'm fairly certain WAF would be lower than if everything broke
Trying to explain clearconnect vs zigbee vs zwave to my wife...
But I get your point. It's also a configuration thing for me. But perhaps I've gotten too reliant on other companies.
There is no absolute right or wrong here, just trade offs
Yeah, I know. Oddly enough, my quest started with wink, which also has all those radios.
If you don't count my insteon days, anyway
I intentionally got out of the insteon world because of being locked into their ecosystem. But those were also some of the most responsive and reliable devices I've used.
Yeah, it's hard to argue with reliable and responsive, except when it's expensive and locked in
Oh of course. Hence why I didn't go back. But the one thing I miss the most is the ramp rate attribute for dimmers
Some Z-Wave devices support that
I was not aware of that. I'll look into it and how to access it.
It's device specific, which means that also depends on where in the world you are
I assumed as much.
Ok now you've got me thinking about zigbee/zwave2mqtt again, darn it.
How retarded is that. I can't add a hostname in PiHole as an upstream DNS Server
Yeah that’s an oversight
And I'm forced to build some stupid dirty workaround or what
Lol
Dirty boy
That sounds like it is following the DNS definition though
Why would you need to point at a hostname for name resolution when you don't have name resolution 😂
Oh, it's 2019 and called Docker
Pff gotta be backwards compatible with the actual standards
So it's not docker compatible regarding the docker philosophy
Hipster philosophy
As much as I love docker , i gotta say
DNS is the one thing that actually needs an IP
Everything else leaves a bad taste in my mouth with a static ip though
My daughter is scared of vacuum cleaners but unphased by life size velociraptor animatronics
One thing I love about open source is, it doesn't go away
If you want to run Ubuntu 12.04, you can!
Things in stores, the company stops selling a product, SaaS's turn off features or die, your favourite food outlet shuts down a location,
Obviously there's security and compatibility concerns, but the choice is yours
Thing is, when a very young kid falls over and hurt themselves it might very well be literally the worst thing that ever happened to them. So they look to you to know how to react. If you look horrified, it's obvious they're going to die.
I just say "you'll be fine" and she keeps on moving 😂
Tho, I would need to use host mode for pihole and unbound, bind the pihole http-port back to the docker gateway so my reverse-proxy picks it up again and then I could use 127.0.0.1
And that's just bae
You can set static ips for containers
Mh mh not much better but I used that way, thx
Any hints on how to get a door bell to work in the HA interface (incl. two-way audio), that doesn’t involve heavy DIY?
#330944238910963714 would be a better place to ask 😉
From the channel topic:
For chat around things that aren't Home Assistant related...
Ok thanks!
why two servers @clever mortar ?
Because I can?
👌
One's on a Pi, ones on the Xeon box. The libraries are the same, but I use the Pi for testing upgraded versions
I see 😄
Also means if I'm messing about again, Plex remains working for the family, and I don't get yelled at 😛
is it an regulat behaviur that an pi3 blinks every seccond? or does it want to tell me something?
Red or Green?
green
Here , try this:
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=raspberry+pi+green+led+blinking
Red blinking is bad
never had an clear case befor - so its abnormal behaviur 😛
Possibly normal if it's a very brief flash.
Try that link 😉

its the awnser from the 3rd result - like that one the most 😺
We can choose what error messages means to suit our needs?
shure - when you ignore all other facts
what youre up to now?
Getting bored by reconfigurating and troubleshooting my lights only pi
I'm taking care of a baby and planning on putting her to bed soon 😂
hi does anyone know how I can get HA to play mp3's from a samba share?
I'm looking around the media player component but can't find anything clear about selecting a source
Hi
I would like to thank you
For your advices
I have my first results
And it's perfect
Now i'm going to get some stiplights
For behind the headbed, and above kitchen
@buoyant talon it depends on how your media player accesses files
sweet
for sonos you'd have to link the samba share to the www directory
same for chromecast when I remember right - had mopidy and Icecast running for some time
but gmusic custom component takes now care
@storm summit yeah its Sonos, ok I think I'm understanding Sonos is the device that plays the MP3 not just streams the sound. I was thinking there as a media player in HA that streemed to sonos
Ok so if sonos can access the samba share how do I direct it to play a given file in HA
sonos controls everything.
you might be able to tell sonos to play a file from a smb share.
sonos only speaks smb1 😛
I've got to the point where I can play files from my smb share on sonos via the sonos app, just not sure how I can tell sonos to play from HA if that makes sense. The idea would be to link it to an automation
if smb doesn't work you can play them via http
you could create a http server just for sonos or try to link them under the hass www directory
when hass tells sonsos to play a file it just provides a URI to the file. so theoretically you could probably give it a smb URI
ok so what does linking a smb to www dir do? Would that allow me to see the files when clicking on the source part of the Media component?
FYI. hass doesn't like file links under the www directory. you have to hack it to make sym links work so you might have to bind mount or hard link -- if you go that route
linking to www will allow you to use the hass web server to provide URIs
so you don't have to spin up another one
if you have it playing from smb already I would try figuring out the proper URI for that to work.
maybe this guy has it correct ? https://community.zipato.com/topic/how-to-play-a-sound-from-the-local-network-on-sonos
Some have said that it's impossible to play a sound on the Sonos from the local network. Not true - you just need to use the correct (obscure) syntax. T

Anyone know what is the proper way to apply water based poly to a wooden desk? Shop suggested roller, yet it turned out awful
A lot of people suggests foam brush but these are not available here
so I am left with regular brushes
but how should i choose the brush?
if anyone applied water based poly before
thank you in advance for helping me out
I used a foam brush with oil based
yeah
But I think water based prefers a natural brush
what is the difference between finishing brush and regular?
bristle density
for water based I think its natural
or the picture is not good enough to tell?
but like I said I think a foam brush would work as well
rip
Almost forgot to share an album of the day
@restive pond recommend yeelight strips, or build your own with gledopto
Yeelight strips are good ?
I have the yeelight light but they become unavailable when i change a little quickly colors or brightness
I have the strip on my bed headboards
So I would like to avoid the same issue
Never noticed any problems when switching
But I don't play rave party techno in the bedroom
Mine becomes unavailable briefly every so often, and will sometimes just stay that way, but I also don't disco my bedroom lights
The strip was great lighting for finding the baby in the middle of the night
Without waking anybody
@clear ferry Great 😉
@clear ferry What do you think about
Is that s pink Floyd concert I missed?
😂 😂 😂
If i'm reasonable on the brightness, it's not amazing
And if the projector is on… the color is more discret
Any of y’all familiar with dell servers and their memory configuration? I think I’m screwed on an eBay purchase 😢
Depends on the question, and model
Well it’s an r720xd, and it appears one of the dimm slots locking tab is broken off and throwing mem errors
Slot A2, and the config on the lid is about as clear as mud to me. I’m not sure if I can move it to a different slot and be okay, or if because all the white slots are filled I can’t move it to a black or green slot.
Nice -5.5C to wake up to
Yeah! That was nice! 😃
When 2020 comes I still have 73 days of paternity leave left, I should do 1.5 years of no Mondays
Any aussies have a convair portable AC and know the IR codes? Google is not being very helpful. Or do these units go by a different name elsewhere. I lost the remote hence why I’m asking
Do you have a samsung s5 or similar
I found the ir blaster in old smart phones pretty good for finding codes
anyone here ever used a smart door lock? cause i bought a smart door lock but it didn't came with a manual. so i dont even know the default password. surprisingly, even the seller don't know. so right now i'm trying to trying a lot of combinations to try to open the lock and the master code to set the rfid card. anyone knows what else combination should i try? i've tried: 1234, 123456, 12345678, 123456789, 1234567890 and 8888
But.... What did you buy? 🤷
my $5000 oscilloscope can't connect to the network because a wifi-enabled lightbulb stole its fixed IP address.
the future is fucking stupid
2972
15072
you mean the model? or literally what did i bought? it's a door lock which you would usually see in a hotel where it has this dial and rfid card scanner. this door lock can connect to the wifi and be opened by an app BUT apparently i can't used outside of China due to "differences between the domestic and foreign system" as what the seller told me. even if it different and i can't use it here, i still could unlock it through the dial, isn't it?
@hushed basalt tried that as well but no luck. forgot to mention
unfortunately, nope. the box that came with the door lock is literally plain. do design whatsoever.
Nothing on the device itself or a webpage where your ordered it?
That said, I have never seen a dial in a hotel room, I can't remember it being anything other than RFID or NFC the last 20 years
they did state the model on the webpage but when searched, other thing came up. and the details on the product on the webpage is unreliable. basically gibberish or direct translate since its from china.
ohh yeah, sorry about that. they didn't have the dial. 😜
So, we have no idea about what you bought, or from where, what it looks like, how many digits there are
Sounds pretty easy to help you
Howdy! Im Dennis, 24 from holland:) Just started using Hassio as part of a minor im following on uni:)! Epic stuff!
Business IT Background, more towards SQL and simple programming (like yaml, Json and lua).
Here to ask some questions and hope to answer some too later on.
Just remember to read channel topics @fading zodiac 😛
Oh dear! Am i posting in the wrong place already?
Not yet, but most people do ❤
Hello everyone 👋 Started using Hassio 7 days ago for integrating all my iot and home stuff, it's a really nice project.
aahh.. setting up an authoritative DNS server for work.
playing with pdns - but this ansible role gets me frustrated 🤣
@hearty depot Could be worse, could be DJBDNS 😉
Still could change it
Found KnotDNS and NSD - but pdns gott an nice API (http is the only bummer)
fun guy this djb
@hearty depot Use NSD on my own stuff. Stupidly fast and light on resources.
@scenic radish

Recurces is'nt a problem here 😉
are'nt? - god deam that all looks aweful written out
Used to run pdns, because of the API, but ran into some really odd behaviours thanks to being both recursive and auth. This was back in the days of PDNS 2, and all have been fixed since! However, moved to nsd and unbound, and haven't looked back. Tiny little python script to write out the zones when needed, and call the reload.
would be intrested in the script 😶 didnt go for NSD after I wasnt clear bout the backend
Nothing magic in the script, it pulls the records from an internal system, generates the zone file, does a quicky compare to see if it's different from what's on disk, and then writes out and reloads the zone if necessary.
Two hidden masters which a whole selection of public masters pull from. A new master can transfer all the zones over in under 10 seconds on startup if necesary.
Oh fuck does anyone know the name for the app to download stuff from sites like uploaded on the server?
Where would I ask question about an integration like tuya?
Pretty sure there is an app, just like for Torrents a Torrent-Client, that can download from Fileshare Sites like uploaded.to
Well I found jDownloader, but I meant another app tho
Hey all, quick consumer reports type question... 😉 I purchased a ring doorbell and a google home hub (7" nest screen thing) to go with my ring alarm, before finding out that google and ring dont want to play well together.
Now I'm sort of wondering if I should get a nest doorbell instead, to go with the home hub, or stick with the ring doorbell to go with the alarm, and just be happy to use the home hub for other purposes than seeing the doorbell?
(I'm also asking because there are myriad ways to interconnect them using HA, but all have drawbacks that make it feel more like tinkering than an easy solution)
hi @all
@thorn fossil selvin?
Also hi - thought you might be someone I met :p
hehe 😛 @hearty depot nope sry
i'm searching for good answers if i should install hass.io or hassbian
Yes
Technically off topic in this channel, but...
Hassbian is Raspbian + Home Assistant
Hass.io is Docker based Home Assistant, with add-ons for easy install of software
Unless you're a Linux geek, Hass.io is hard to go (very) wrong with
I'm a Linux geek, so I don't run Hass.io 😛
Seriously Hassbian when you're like to get a geek
Even then, it's better to geek out on a second install.
Meh, not even then really, go with ububtu/Debian + docker or the generic Hassio installer
Ask a simple question, get 18 different answers ... 😄
It's somewhat personal preference, and somewhat what are my skills
I burned 3 installs untill I had a half-baked experience
i allready installed hassbian i think that will be mine
Well, it's a good choice if you're at home in Linux
(speaking as somebody with a manual venv install on Debian)
I've spent too much time with Hassbian to be able to really enjoy it 😝
😄
You think I enjoy that?
Jea - the install script are neat as f. Thanks btw ;)
I'm finally learning enough about Docker that I might consider Hass.io in the future...
Nah, joking 😛
I may consider a Docker install though
you installed it on your router ? o.O @low harness
It's not quite what most people imagine when they hear "router"...
It's my home server which also handles network routing.
ah ok so now i know what you mean
Soon my router LL be pfSense - on the same machine LL also runn hassio on Debian 🤣
yeah i'd take hassio in docker on raspbian over any other setup
seeing as my linux knowledge is currently at the level of just add sudo to the beginning if the command doesn't work
🤣
is there a reason my nabu casa link dosn't work in the app?
doesn't like u
also, #ios_and_mac-archived is probably your best bet
might be because of how the nabu casa reverse proxy works
@trail crag i've seen some bluetooth thermometers...but that severely limits the range. and i'm not sure if they even integrate with hass (guessing not)
the alternative is probably just running remote access as a progressive web app (PWA) on your phone
@clear ferry sorry for the late reply. internet connection in my area got crazy last night. yeah, i'm sorry for not providing enough information on it.
i can't open the link to it anymore. maybe it's a scam? but here's the link: https://m.tb.cn/h.ePKr7Qb?sm=ec5062
will send a picture of the circuit inside. i need to dismantle it first
@rough zenith one thing you could try
If you can find the chinese docs and shove them into google translate
You might be able to decipher the default password at least
Also try 0000*
If that doesn't work there's probably a jumper you need to short inside
To reset code to 0000
@hushed basalt tried to look for any manuals or datasheets on the product but no avail. the seller did gave me a manual but it's on how to integrate the door lock with the apps. and i've tried 0000, 000000, 00000000 and 0000000000. so, i thought of flashing this system that can't be use "outside of China" if possible.
there's the picture of the circuit. and i don't know if i'm using imgur right? 😅
yeah, even with the asterisk in front as well to all the combinations i've tried.
Hmmm
What does that button on the pcb do
Also try taking a direct top down picture
Preferably with strong light that's not your phone flasg
So we can read all the silk screening
Also check for any model numbers under the batteries
Can you use their apl
App*
You might have to use the app to set the password
ohh i just realise that is a button. cause i'm not used seeing that kind of tactile switch. or is it even a tactile switch. let me check what the button do. and as for the app, it won't pair. it discover the door lock but it says no device is discovered and i can't press it.
How many are using proxy for “safe” browsing?
@rough zenith looks way too elaborate for a scam 😂
That said, I have never heard of that site before
@modest hollow only when I surf for illicit terms like naked pcb and topless capacitor or the likes
Do you have setup your own proxy or use public?
No, I kid, I don't care who has my cookies or the likes, and poor bastards that have to look at my search history anyway
Paranoia never suited me
I lie though, I use American web proxies to read American newspapers
Because murica hates GDPR
EU IP? Let's block it!
I'd do the same
What the easiest way to change/spoofing ip for noob?
@ocean mirage you would just block me, because I'm me
I would block all norwegians by association
@modest hollow random pay to use vpn
@ocean mirage but have you gotten through mail #2 yet?
Wireguard and vpivpn do hide ip? I have both home
not at all
@modest hollow no idea, never used them, I seem to recall the name beartunnel or something could do stuff like that
One more question, what to do on work, when boss is checking all trafic? Vpn worked few weeks, but now it is blocked
😂
Not a relevant problem for me as that would be illegal for most EU countries 🤷
Nice, today I'm going to troubleshoot a hyper-v environment that a partner has been troubleshooting for 1 year
I'm taking a wild guess and say I'll find something they have overlooked
Illegal in eu? Tell me more
Most fun things are
Check your local laws @modest hollow
For ip hide?
In Norway we are not allowed to look at internet usage in real-time, only after the fact and only if we suspect illegal / offendable usage
@modest hollow no, for internet monitoring of employees
And citizens
Ahh so, meh weird boss, checkig all employes whole day. Now i am paranoid with my iphone when connecting to works wifi
@light trout disappointed no snow this morning, weather report said there might be some
@modest hollow then check with someone who knows local computer law, and if it is illegal in your country report him to the authorities
Vpn was a solution, but that is past now. Mobile/cellular has bad signal there and eating the whole battery at work
I want that white powder 😄
Walter White? Is that you?
404
@clear ferry sounds like I need to move to Norway. Between the state schools, health care, paternity care, civil rights
Do software developers get paid well :p
I hear devs in london get paid crap
Yeah, but there are not that many jobs
It is the best country in the world, until you show up 😛
Dey took er jobs
I don't know that many Devs, but the ones I know make $60.000 and up
Devs here can make A$120k
Most I know started at 80k some are well over 100
Obviously there's a huge spectrum
What is that in freedom money?
-400k
I'm waiting for an offer from a competitor this week, asking for $105k 😂
Ask for 105647.75
That is oddly specific
That's the idea 😄
If you convert + devide it on 1337 you get 666

Or not 😀
And only sun in summer!
thats less bad but also horrible
Who needs outdoors anyways
I'll just fill the house with full spectrum floodlights
I'll be able to afford it on their cheap hydro too
outdoors is not bad
That's where people is!
hmm good point
outside is cancelled
we have ~3 people per square km though, norway has around 15
so uhh
less peoples when you are outside
People 🤢
@hushed basalt got the door working. apparently the button is to put it to pairing mode when long press. well, i thought it was using wifi but then it seems its using bluetooth. anyways, thank you for your help and @clear ferry 's too!
🎉
mmmm home-office time
@rough zenith good to hear
Good luck getting it integrated with HA though
That might be in the too hard basket
@ocean mirage we are like 95% desert though
In the remote areas it's like 0.01 people per square km
@hushed basalt well, i think i could integrate it by using a gateway. the problem is that how am i going to use the features like OTP or maybe even changing the password of the door from HA? i wonder if that is even possible? 🤔
Bluetooth stuff is always challenging if it's not developer friendly,
It's not like a simple HTTP Rest API
but if its open platform then it should be fine, right?
the apps to control it is open platform
I was trying to make an argument against Norway, logic not required
I'm shocked, I found 6 descrepancies in the customer setup that neither of the partners who had looked at the problem before me had seen 🤷
One of them was the fact that it was hyper-v?
Well... I made those comments too
sounds safe
@hushed basalt Have a nice SSHCA at work. 2FA authentication against a service which gives you an SSH key that's good for X amount of time. Really really damn handy 🙂
Sounds cool, is that managed by hashicorp vault or something?
We're using Vault, but there's plenty of other options.
For example, a friend who's an Ex-Google wrote https://github.com/nsheridan/cashier which does the job as well.
yuck
Love it when you hit chill points, and rain just freezes on the windscreen
that does not sound like a positive experience
Come here, I'll show you how to drift in snow 😛
It's harder than you would think I guess, most of Europe stops when it snows
laughs in Scandinavian
Anyone going to HA state of the union 2019 and needs a ride? I'm driving from Hasselt, Belgium.
If you could swing by Australia I will hop in
Where is the State of the union this year ?
Hasselt, Belgium. Its a short drive
🤣
all of belgium is a short drive
talked to some collegues there, if it was more than 30 minute drive, the other office would have to take it
you can cross the country in less than an hour I think
Our country is so big you can notice the speed of light from one end to the other
Even worse with the VOP of fibre
Norway is 30ish hours if you drive continous from one end to the other 🤣
Even the same state. WA is huge north to south
I love how this just puts a $ in front of everything
Like it's beyond the Americans comprehension that freedom units aren't used for eveything.
I know people who make that 🤷
As employees?
Managers are a form of employee I guess
I mean as in not business owners etc
If I was working in a corporate here I'd expect 90-120k depending on experience/position
Which isn't bad
I'm so underpaid at my current work. But I'm leaving in 6 weeks :D
It's in Amsterdam, the Netherlands again. 2,5 hour (one-way) drive for me.
I am very new to this type of forum and I am looking for a solar monitoring system, water tanks levels, and light controls for my converted or soon to be converted school bus. Can you direct me to some information >
@latent delta sounds like you want #diy-archived
that channel sounds interesting
@lapis ember bringing auschat in here, at least you don't have to worry about the Basslink attracting boat anchors
you know I've used the HA chan many times, but never once opened up the lounge? And I wondered why the HA chan was so quiet 😄 shoot me!
so many aussie people
does it count as an invasion ?
@hushed basalt @ocean mirage @tough igloo @lapis ember @olive comet get a room! but put it on the barbie!
lolll this guy
listen! Leave us alone! you guys have all the cool people that made HA around you, so we can have our barbie and eat it too 😛
and your 'driving from one side of the country to the other in an hour'!
mmmmm barbie 🤤
I've got plantation shutters and want to automate them. I've found the servo motor I'm gonna use, but how can I research more info about the movement system I need to use for the implementation? Any ideas?
I know there was an interview on #creator-connection I think where someone in AUS used HA to close the window shutters based on bushfire alert in HA
but I guess #diy-archived might be a good place to start for the movement system itself
people are bloody clever sometimes
I'll hit up the diy chan some time soon then. Thank you for nothing 😛
I'll try to search in the podcast chan too actually
would a couple of limit switches, some digital logic and a breadboard be a starting point for you? or are you after something off the shelf?
I don't think I'd need limit switches as I'd be controlling the limits on the servo. There's nothing off the shelf, so I'm going to make my own. I'm picturing a nodemcu with a stepper driver (I think that's what they're called) + power source for the whole thing. But what I can't picture is how the servo will rotate to move the shutters in a uniform(?get my drift?) motion
ahhh you're talking mechanical systems
and then once I get that all going okay, then I'll add in solar panel(s) and a battery of some sorts to make it wireless
yessss
sorry should have mentioned that 😄
get all your bits together and it will become apparent. if not, send pics
I don't know what I have to source for that part even!
I'm hoping I can 3d print the shaft for it, but as the servo spins it'll move the shaft at an angle won't it
you want to use a servo motor to effect linear movement?
why not use a linear actuator/servo?
😮 because I never knew these existed
CEDIA 2015: Shuttereaze Demos Its Retrofitting Motorization System for Plantation Shutters
they'd be shit more expensive than standard servos though
Shuttereaze doesn't exist anymore lol I checked
could you put the shaft of the servo on the same axis as a shaft of a shutter vane?
yeah that's what I'm planning on doing
there's a 'guide' that moves all the shutters together on one side of the shutters
straight piece which goes the entire length, attached to all shutters
so when you move one it moves all that are joined to it
so I just need to attach a linear servo or equivalent to this and fasten it to the frame
okay cool
you know what though, maybe I won't even need it to be linear, as the panels open and close and they change their x position
so maybe I can just use a normal servo with a large enough gear to offset that
bah can't think now, tired
I'm also thinking of a gear and shaft kinda like a steam train wheel
check these out
@olive comet you're a legend
ahh - changed from gnome back to xfce - I feel home again
pheeeew
first github PR for hacktoberfest is done 🤣
now I just need to find some other docs that need updating
time to make one minor correction to four docs
i need to find one more doc to update too 🤣
since i don't think i'll have the zwave updates done in time
changed a to an four times
shirt pls

i also can't understand a word of it even though it sounds like i should be able to
Reminds me of Red Dwarf episode where everyone is talking backwards
When I was in the Netherlands it was so hard
someone referred to dutch as "potato mouth english" lmao
I don't speak a word of French but fundamentally it's very similar to English
Dutch just felt, alien
Get ready for an un-rumble and the boys tidy up before a fight. Hilarious red dwarf comedy clip free from the BBC
I understand dutch fine mostly
it's like a danish guy trying to speak german but failing miserably

Oh lawd @strange vapor
i wish i knew another language
i started studying ilonggo a while ago because my fiancee lived in the philippines for a year but i stopped
because xbox
Whoever decided yaml and yml are both legal extensions can die in a fire
Pick one and make it the only allowed one!
Maybe a bit harsh, but I've spent the last hour tracking down an error
Just accept both for the case now. But the apps dont 🤦
This is in kubernetes
Yep
I always use yml, but a operator I downloaded was yaml
The amount of time I've lost to crap like this
Oh, this should be ", this should be ' ', this should be $(this) while another thing should be ($this), this is a list while this needs to be a nested dict, arghh
This needs - separators, this needs _ separators, this needs . Separators, this must have no separators, this is camelCase,
Hey guys
a new fridge?
I've heard bad things about LG, but maybe it is not all true
how wrong can you go with a fridge though?
unless you get a smart one, and why would you 🤔
Consumer reports rates LG highly if that means anything to you
I've heard some bad stuff about faulty shelfs
etc.
with inverter problems
that it is too loud etc
I've heard bad stuff about every brand
The compressor is a little noisy on startup but it doesn't bother me
Could have changed from 2013
@orchid rose Reminds me of my last visit in a appliance store. They wanted to sell me some washingmachine with smart functions and stuff. I was able to controll from the phone and stuff.
I asked him: How'd i get the laundry in and out of the machine?
Yeah never understood that. For devices that you already need to interact with by physically being there it makes no sense
Notifications are nice though
I will never understand Amazon's smart microwave
I could use a timer?
I'm just trying to find any single useful feature for smart appliances lol
Like, theres no argument for buying a 1500 machine , versus the same one without smart stuff for 1k.
I agree completely, just pointing out one useful feature
500$ feature it is
Owell
Maybe like for the fridge, when stuff is about to expire
You know, it scans barcodes and keep track of dates
May🅱️
yeah
the point is with smart stuff it tend to die easier
I've heard that a lot new motorbikes are actually harder to repair and are more prone to electrical problems than the old ones
my GS500 approves 😄
Got a lovely microwave a few.months ago. It has two knobs: Power and Time, and that's it. Joy to use.
Only shit that killed my car (98 vw polo6n1) are sensors.
Old one was a nightmare of buttons, with the +10s, +1m and Start buttons worn out!
Exactly , why'd you need more?
I am not sure if you aware of this
but how could anyone came up with this shitty idea
not even sure what am I looking at 😄
I had a Seat Ibiza from around '98 with just knobs and it just worked and it was alright
straightforward
i should probably change my forum username to template sensor because that seems to be 99% of my answers to people's questions on the forum
@strange vapor i'm good with the standard keypad, it's easy to use
heyya Template Sensor
@past idol there is a reason I call French cars Shitroen and Pissgeout
And always ask for a replacement when at the car rental office if I get a French car
Citroen... 😱
Peugot have got better, but then I could say that about Fiat since they no longer come rusting to pieces as a factory standard option
Had a Citreon Xantia back in the day. First car I owned. Lovely to drive, but the electrics were shit.
My neighbor get a new Citron recently. Two days in, the electric sun root motors left out the magic blue smoke while he was trying to close it in the rain :/
In the UK, at one point Fiat cars were literally arriving at the garages already rusting... I wasn't actually joking 😄
At one point when I was very young, my father went through a few Fiat Regattas. It was great towards the end as there was two old ones in the yard for spares 🙂
Same with Toyota's in the 80s
Rusted on boats coming to Europe
From the salt Ocean
Nighty ❤
Having extra copies of your car for spare parts is a very common thing in some areas of the world. Especially in remote places where getting parts can be hard and expensive
a bit late to the convo, <soap_box>but i cannot wait till its time to get a IoT washer/dryer... my wife does most of the laundry and she thinks its dumb to set timers and then promptly forgets that she left clothes in the wash that eventually smell of mildew, and then she spends the next 4hrs with baking soda... vinegar... bitching about the entire time. yes.. yes its worth the extra $$$ </soap_box>
samsung has a thing you can plug in to some of their newer units that make them smart
no open API for them though
How about a smart plug with energy monitoring? Then create an automation that sends a notification when power usage goes below a certain threshold
that's another common method. especially for dryers
Vibration sensors also
Basically you're looking for whatever consumption/vibration happens when it's on a spin cycle
Then send an alert when that ends
Also you can put a reed switch on the door
To clear the alert, incase the alert gets ignored and forgotten about and you just end up back to the original problem
heh could install a klaxon in the living room or prevent the tv from turning on while the laundry is waiting
I've got an Aeotec plug on my dishwasher and washing machine. It's actually really easy to see when it's working or not, if the current goes zero for over ten mins, they're probably finished their cycles. Haven't got it fully worked into automations yet, but will get around to it 🙂
dishwasher would be cool. Code is weird here and the dishwasher is hardwired through to a switch
I need a klaxon that goes off every time my cicd builds fail
Force me to write better code :€
Dishwasher isn't so bad imo
Dishes can just sit there
Wet clothes not so much
I'd be more interested in programmatically trying to start a dishwasher rather than monitoring the end
@hushed basalt might have to try a vibration sensor. don't really want a smart plug for the washer
about to dive into presence detection, wish me luck!
glhf
i already have the most important part done, I know where I am
InvalidAtmosphereException: Oxygen level below threshold.
is that the album with dio on it
ahh hes on the sequel
I think the only album I have properly listened to of theirs is Empire
It is also very good
yeah not bad
But I prefer operation mindcrime
I learnt Silent Lucidity on geetar

Relevant Billy Joel song
I am never going to willfully listen to billy joel
heh should add the music bot to this channel
But.. I am the music bot
you still have to tell it what to play 🙂
it would be unused, like all other music bots
you're words

is there any device that could control the state of the air conditioner and its temp? i decided to keep the door lock i was working on and order a new one that uses wifi directly. might as well get it together will the new door lock
like a remote, basically.
If you're talking about #330944238910963714 integrations then https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/broadlink
woah thank you so much! which one do you recommend though? cause there are a lot of types.
Sounds like a #330944238910963714 question 😉
alright thanks! will ask there
To whomever it may concern. Gizza job plz 'cos I be awesome and haz leet skillz
idk if anyone is aware , I have a friend who bought recently a closet from IKEA which has some lighting options that rely on IKEA's TRADFRI "smart" power supply. does anyone know if this power supply is also compatible with the xiaomi zigbee gateway so that someone can avoid buying the TRADFRI gateway separately to make it work ?
@clever mortar Not a bad idea 🤔
@normal ferry There is no IKEA Tradfri power supply afaik, so you would have to specify a bit more
Do you mean the LED Driver perhaps
yeah it's information as it was conveyed to me - so probably the LED driver
That will not work with xiaomi afaik, will work with the HUE, or zigbee2mqtt, or zha, but that is rather a discussion for #zigbee-archived
I see thank you! 🙂 What's that stick's name that is from a third party company that works with most zigbee devices and it's a good alternative for the xiaomi gateway as well? Domotics?
I feel like there are better ways that turing off the power to stop a wild fire
interesting
I came here with a xiaomi question, and people are already talking about it
is there a preferred place for questions (especially for a noob)?
Depends on the tech @languid junco
Would likely be one of those three
What was the topic
I hate myself for listening to Billie Eilish - Bad Guy
the bass line is so fucking catchy
ha. Yeah even thinking about that you've put it in my head
@strange vapor save me
Björk - Hyperballad if you want to go full on bass 🤣
don't tempt me. it's near midnight here and the neighbours will not like my doof doofs.
😛
gah i use emoji too much
That is why I love all my Sony MDR-XB headphones
the MDR-XB700s are my favorite
but I use those in my studio

Never enjoyed Sennheisers
