I think someone from work told me he did it this way and it worked

#

So it could be it is not CPU related if you have just a blank screen. That would then need cross testing, like another PC or another GPU maybe

hearty depot
#

The Mainboard got some so called EZ test LED's CPU glows

#

From the handbook - either no CPU or not recognized Erkannt.. what was the English word again?..

I was thinking, it would be nice to have some kind of indication that you clicked the restart button when restarting the server.

What are you talking about?

clear mirage

just something like a dialog box that says "Server Restarting"

boreal pewter

No one knows which kind of application you're talking about

scenic radish
#

@clear mirage are you talking about restarting home assistant from the frontend? because it sort of does...it'll show "connection lost, reconnecting..." after a few seconds

clear mirage
#

@scenic radish yes that's what im talking about, its just sometimes ive noticed that it takes a little bit before that actually pops up.

scenic radish
#

gotcha. i mean, the button has a visual response to the click at least. has it not worked on the first click before for you?

i do notice the visual response but sometimes i forget if i clicked the button

upper tinsel
rapid musk
#

Any of you guys use hdbaset?

hushed basalt
#

What's your application @rapid musk

rapid musk
#

@hushed basalt Goal: to broadcast a basic feed from my security camera server blue iris, across my network to be able to pull it up on any screen in the house. My wife doesn’t like having to check her phone or go to the console in the shop. I just tried HDMI extenders by cable matters and they didn’t perform. I got an image, but it was distorted, and or flickering no matter what resolution or new cables I tried.

#

Don’t even need audio, just video

wet pilot
#

there's the "ok google, show me my <camera>" integration

rapid musk
#

I’d like to just feed it to any panel in the house with a flip of the source button on the tv

wet pilot
#

fair enough

rapid musk
#

I mean it is 2019, right? Lol

#

I feel like I’m missing something that exists

#

That extender would have been awesome...feed the input through a network switch and extract the signal from any keystone in the house

#

Sounds awesome in theory

wet pilot
#

i'm almost surprised that works

rapid musk
#

I was too, and it does. I’m just missing some part of the equation. The image was distorted potentially from using unshielded cat6.

wet pilot
#

is it actually cat6 if its unshielded? πŸ€”

rapid musk
#

Made the image all slanted at a 45 degree angle. Ha

wet pilot
#

weird

hushed basalt
#

Have you thought of just raspberry pis

#

Or you tv might have rtsp apps available

#

You really need 2 x dedicated cat6 cables for hdmi extenders

#

I'd be wary of any device that tries to do it over one cat6

#

But can you get an rtsp /http feed from your dvr server

#

Or just access the cameras directly

brisk glen
#

Why 2?

#

You just need to be within spec....

hushed basalt
#

Because HDMI is high bandwidth

#

And UTP is relatively low bandwidth

#

Plus I'd fair to say most cat6 installations are out of spec

#

Plus it's just cheaper and more reliable to just use networked players

brisk glen
#

@hushed basalt that depends on the data

#

And tech

hushed basalt
#

Do you mean HDMI or cat6?

brisk glen
#

Both, 4K over hdmi is a lot different than 1080p

#

For extending HDMI over cat 6, HDBaseT is a great technology

#

@hushed basalt we do this reliably at work all the time

#

Have a couple hundred AV setups

#

Hey, I experienced a breaking change in my automation. I used to poll the temperature of my climate, and somehwere in an update the integer it was looking for changed to a float. I had to change my template to accomodate for this.
Here's what I changed:

-{{ is_state_attr('climate.serre', 'temperature', 20) }}
+{{ is_state_attr('climate.serre', 'temperature', 20) or is_state_attr('climate.serre', 'temperature', 20.0) }}

I used an or instead of just adding .0 because from my testing sometimes when updating it manually it still returned the integer. I can't really tell why it would be inconsistent.

Just wanted to post this in case someone else is experiencing the same problem.

@undone aspen I thought about unms but it doesn't play nice with an existing docker env

boreal pewter

lol well that is nothing I ever touched or want to touch. But in any common linux it is pretty straight forward to setup rclone and do the mount

#

Depending of if you crypt or not tho

hushed basalt
#

Rclone is a bit cryptic sometimes

#

But it's okay once you get your head around it

#

Especially encrypted mounts,

boreal pewter
#

But it actually is almost simple. I don't know every aspect yet, I have the problem to find out how to delete data, but getting the data in is easy πŸ˜„

hushed basalt
#

I dunno, I consider myself a pretty smart guy but it took me a while to figure out how the encrypted mount works

boreal pewter
#

Me either, but looking at the setup itself it actually is pretty straight forward. Tho in my case I still need to figure how to delete files πŸ˜„

quiet drift
#

RClone is freaking awesome. I use it so I can use Google Drive as a backend storage. Now my NVR and media server has "unlimited" storage. Up to like 130TB on it

boreal pewter
#

I do the same but I'm not fully finished, I'm probably having the wrong setup

quiet drift
#

I use a combo of rclone + mergerFS + scripts to upload files (its faster to keep them local and then upload in batches)

boreal pewter
#

I have the exact same. But how would you delete files?

quiet drift
#

Files are deleted direct. Technically goes through mergerFS. Let me scrounge up my mount systemd file

boreal pewter
#

Because my mount is RO, and the upload folder is writable, and both fused to the application folder

quiet drift
#
ExecStart=/usr/bin/mergerfs \
  -o category.create=ff,minfreespace=0,allow_other \
  -o dropcacheonclose=true,security_capability=false,xattr=nosys \
  -o statfs_ignore=ro,use_ino,auto_cache,umask=0002,noatime \
  -o rw,suid,dev,exec,async,sync_read,auto_cache \
  /mnt/local=RW:/mnt/teamdrives/*=NC:/mnt/remote=NC /mnt/unionfs

Thats my mergerFS systemd. =NC means no create. So it RW so it can delete from those remotes but can't write from them

boreal pewter
#

In my case the mount is already RO

   --allow-other \
   --buffer-size 2G \
   --checkers 32 \
   --config /root/.config/rclone/rclone.conf \
   --dir-cache-time 144h \
   --drive-chunk-size 32M \
   --log-level INFO \
   --log-file /home/scripts/logs/mount-auto.cron.log \
   --read-only \
   --tpslimit 10 \
   --vfs-cache-mode writes \
   --vfs-read-chunk-size 128M \
   --vfs-read-chunk-size-limit off \
   --stats 0```
quiet drift
#

Allow it to be RW via RClone but when you mergeFS it, mark it as NC

boreal pewter
#

What is NC?

quiet drift
#

"No Create"

boreal pewter
#

Mh seems reasonable... will need to check that out when I have some free time πŸ˜„

velvet horizonBOT
quiet drift
#

Thats one of my systemd files for a mount. I have a ton of them

boreal pewter
#

You can put off --fast-list

quiet drift
#

I dont think its needed. Leftover from waaaay back

boreal pewter
#

Also remove --max-read-ahead

quiet drift
#

Ive actually had --fast-list cause issues on my security folder because its thousands of tiny files

boreal pewter
#

Since fast-list doesn't do anything at all on any mount I doubt that πŸ˜„

#

And max-read-ahead requires a custom kernel compiled with the same parameter and size, else delete it as well πŸ˜›

quiet drift
#

I was using the --fast-list command in my script, not my mount

#

I think a mount ignores the command but a move definitely does not

boreal pewter
#

Yeah, maybe, I just talk about your mount you posted ^^

quiet drift

Im just too lazy to go through 10-ish mount files to remove the line haha

I have to rework all that shit I guess

`lsof |grep '(deleted)' will give you all the files themselves so you can confirm

That's just the same as before?

wet pilot

ah ok, been a bit

wet pilot

yeah, i usually leave the files be and let sonarr/radarr hard link them to where i actually want them. go back through and clean up the download location every so often

boreal pewter

I don't understand. The torrent client HAS to pick them up from the gdrive location of the fuse mount. Else that whole setup would be useless

wet pilot
#

is this for adding torrents?

boreal pewter
#

The upload dir and the gdrive mount are fused, the client is writing it in the fuse. And they get uploaded and reappear in the same dir due to the gdrive mount again

i blame fuse

@scenic radish Sony mdr-xb is what I've bought the last 7 years, I have three different ones, they withstand everything I throw at them, falling down from racks, being thrown across the data center and me playing around in my studio

@upper tinsel yeah, I ended up buying a Logitech one. We'll see how it holds up
@clear ferry thanks for the input, I'll have to take a look!

I have the mdr-xb700 which are great studio headphones and if you want to annoy the f out of people, the mdr-xb70ap for on the go, with molded plugs for my ears, and MDR-xb950 for more easily driven wireless working

i do have the ATH-M40x that i mainly use for drumming that i like a lot... maybe i should just buy an inline mic for it

those are some great cans. i've had them for almost 5 years now

Audio Technica headphones are generally pretty great I've found. There are some decent aftermarket mics you can slap on them, though I haven't tried any personally

I have had the 300 bucks Beyerdynamic MMX but it is a real headset, so actually game sounds, music videos and such really weren't fun. I exchanged it for a beyerdynamic custom Game but both of them had a broken cable after like a year. And I swear as soon as it breaks again I actually have no other idea then getting some Beyerdynamic 1xxx (the new ones) and a ModMic

Headsets are just generally shit. Either quality or sound, maybe both

I still have some studio mic laying around but honestly, that is just too much space it takes for me

upper tinsel

Why do you think the door lock is the best?

#

I really enjoy having a (somewhat dumb) robo vac, makes the place seem cleaner that much longer

unreal orbit
#

Not having to carry keys is nice, being able to let people in remotely, revoke someone's access code if I want. And it has been one of the most reliable devices I have

upper tinsel
#

Hm, can see the value in that. Which door lock do you use?
For us I think the biggest value would be being able to check if the doors locked using voice (and closing it).

unreal orbit
#

That was another bonus. But you kinda need a sensor on the door to make sure it's closed as well if you want full peace of mind

upper tinsel

On the other hand, with the right robot vac you can generate Doom maps..

unreal orbit

I have a kwikset 910 zwave deadbolt

Woooooo... Dang... I was just curiously looking at what batteries the Fibaro Door/Window Sensors have, and holy bajeebus they are the oddball ER14250's which are about $9/pc each.

Where the SmartThings Multipurpose Sensor uses the CR-2450, which are 5 for $4.

low harness
#

@tall escarp did you also play the demo from Pc FΓΆr Alla to death?

undone aspen

Hmm, and the Fibaro Motion Sensor that I really WANT to get, uses a CR123A, which is about $4~$5 for a 2-pack.

tall escarp
#

@low harness I cant remember, probably πŸ˜‚

undone aspen
#

Just imagining battery replacement costs and reoccurrence of replacement for various possible sensors in this whole scheme of things, while also trying to find similarly compatible devices in the mesh network of things. Since my light switches are ending up being Lutron with their ClearConnect RF, I won't have Z-Wave repeaters throughout the house,, and my current use of SmartThings sensors are ZigBee which obviously won't repeat Z-Wave either.

orchid rose
#

Robotic voice would be kinda cool, but why can't google home sound like HAL, that's all I've ever wanted...

undone aspen
#

Heh

#

So, I'm reaaaaally thinking I like the Fibaro sensors for motion, because pet sensativity. But I am curious, without the Fibaro hub that they have, can you configure their sensors with, say, a SmartThings to accomodate, since those are somehow programmed/setup that way?

clever mortar
#

Z-Wave device configuration is part of the Z-Wave standard - no hub required

#

You only need one for firmware updates

undone aspen
#

Hmmmm.

#

Well, the aspects you can configure in the Fibaro motion sensor is range, pet sensativity, and other aspects, and I just wonder how you would actually do that.

clever mortar
#

Well, in HA you use HA's Z-Wave control panel - I assume that if you're crazy enough to use ST that it'll have something similar

You know it's your day when:

  • you leave work and some dude parks his car beside yours and leaves 20cm space for the driver door
  • you finally find out your setup is fucked due to limitation of good software
  • you have to diagnose why almost every PC game crashes almost instantly at your wifes PC

Insert more reasons here

My living room PC refuses to launch certain games until I unplug/replug a usb device. Any usb device. That was a fun debugging process.

#

Still no idea why, I assume it's a driver issue

boreal pewter
#

Right now I try to figure about the SSD's, since someone at work has the same issue and already tracked it down being the SSD (or connection to it)

#

But that doesn't seem to be it

#

Also there has nothing changed worthwhile

orchid rose
#

have you tried turning it off and on again?

boreal pewter
#

The last few days a few times..

orchid rose
#

well damn, I was sure it would fix it

#

Only games though? Have you tried anything else that uses the gpu?

boreal pewter
#

Well, fun fact, she just played almost a hour Forza Horizon 4 which uses GPU at least 100%. GTA V only crashes occasionally but it does on my PC as well. However Civilisation 6 always crashes when ending the current round. Assassins Creed Odyssey crashes exactly when entering the new DLC mission, but loads on my PC just fine - it crashes on the Nvidia Shield too tho. Fallout 4 crashes instantly on startup as well

#

Any launcher options for "repair game files" or so don't have any results
