So it could be it is not CPU related if you have just a blank screen. That would then need cross testing, like another PC or another GPU maybe
The Mainboard got some so called EZ test LED's CPU glows
From the handbook - either no CPU or not recognized Erkannt.. what was the English word again?..
recognized
The bios should show you it's version on the main screen, if that is the not the newest version of the manufacterers support page then update
No screen π€·
oof
I was thinking, it would be nice to have some kind of indication that you clicked the restart button when restarting the server.
What are you talking about?
just something like a dialog box that says "Server Restarting"
No one knows which kind of application you're talking about
@clear mirage are you talking about restarting home assistant from the frontend? because it sort of does...it'll show "connection lost, reconnecting..." after a few seconds
@scenic radish yes that's what im talking about, its just sometimes ive noticed that it takes a little bit before that actually pops up.
gotcha. i mean, the button has a visual response to the click at least. has it not worked on the first click before for you?
i do notice the visual response but sometimes i forget if i clicked the button
lol i was thinking about that
so i bought steaks to make tonight in celebration of borderlands 3 being released
Since in this channel you're not allowed to Talk about home assistant I couldn't think of that
ah thats right... hmm... worth buying on the epic game store I wonder..
Assistant to the Home Manager
nah, that's Mycroft
dunno, i hate privacy and went all in on google
cries
the wife likes it though, so there's that
Also using Google Home's... I will say they started off awesome but theyve gone through periods of not responding correctly, and its been almost 2 years since they said they were adding Keep/Todoist support for lists
Kind of funny when the SO typically says bad things about the automation... but then when its turned off for fixing and she complains about it not working.. π
haha mine only complains when it doesn't work. But more of a sadness thing when it doesn't behave like magic
I mean, thats how you know you did a good job
I consider voice control to be a secondary part of my smart home setup for that reason exactly @upper tinsel. I bought a Zigbee button that does what my good night routine is on my Google home except it's all run from home assistant because I was tired of it not hearing me
Yea I've started to subscribe to the same philosophy - I don't want my automations to ever get in the way
Any of you guys use hdbaset?
What's your application @rapid musk
@hushed basalt Goal: to broadcast a basic feed from my security camera server blue iris, across my network to be able to pull it up on any screen in the house. My wife doesnβt like having to check her phone or go to the console in the shop. I just tried HDMI extenders by cable matters and they didnβt perform. I got an image, but it was distorted, and or flickering no matter what resolution or new cables I tried.
Donβt even need audio, just video
there's the "ok google, show me my <camera>" integration
Iβd like to just feed it to any panel in the house with a flip of the source button on the tv
fair enough
I mean it is 2019, right? Lol
I feel like Iβm missing something that exists
That extender would have been awesome...feed the input through a network switch and extract the signal from any keystone in the house
Sounds awesome in theory
i'm almost surprised that works
I was too, and it does. Iβm just missing some part of the equation. The image was distorted potentially from using unshielded cat6.
is it actually cat6 if its unshielded? π€
Made the image all slanted at a 45 degree angle. Ha
weird
Have you thought of just raspberry pis
Or you tv might have rtsp apps available
You really need 2 x dedicated cat6 cables for hdmi extenders
I'd be wary of any device that tries to do it over one cat6
But can you get an rtsp /http feed from your dvr server
Or just access the cameras directly
Because HDMI is high bandwidth
And UTP is relatively low bandwidth
Plus I'd fair to say most cat6 installations are out of spec
Plus it's just cheaper and more reliable to just use networked players
Do you mean HDMI or cat6?
Both, 4K over hdmi is a lot different than 1080p
For extending HDMI over cat 6, HDBaseT is a great technology
@hushed basalt we do this reliably at work all the time
Have a couple hundred AV setups
Hold on
Iβm having dajavo
Oh no
@rapid musk didnβt you ask this yesterday and you were told about the blue iris web server?
I remember using dsub over ethernet sometime in 2005 π
Made it after something like this if memory serves right http://www.dougburbidge.com/vgaovercat5.html#targetText=VGA over Cat-5 ethernet cable&targetText=This is possible for two,VGA signal further than spec.
One of my lecturers made a bunch of serial over ethernet bridges or something
Made a killing selling them to the local casino
Hand wound the inductors and everything
He was like "The inductors cost like like $40 to buy or $5 to buy the parts. So I make $35 for every inductor I wind"

Out of fear of repeating myself, get a hold of the Peter Gabriel growing up live Blu-ray, it is one of the best concerts I've seen
@ocean mirage that or tush maybe

Sounds like your average PEBKAC @hearty depot β€
@hearty depot how is it that u got the CPU so fast? I know someone waiting now over a month... Or did u take a low end one?
Lol ok then
AMD ships them btw
started 3 days ago - so the wait should be around a week only from now on
at least they keep the prices in check π€£

I mean, if you like paying more to overclock, sure I guess

They have a shitty server design
ah well I know nothing about that =p
Exactly π but how many cpu die designs have you studied?
Overclocking... π€
Kids these days do it for more RGB LEDs in the cases
Remember on the Athlon you had to use a pencil to enable overclocking
I turned my Duron into an Athlon with a pencil
Had a friend with a dual socket Athlon system
Tried to replace just one CPU with a bigger one
We had to evacuate the room because of smoke
But I still overclock all my setups, just don't see a reason not to do so π€·

My ESPHome project of the evening...2x 144 LED/m WS2812 strips with a Wemos D1 Mini and a 5V 20A power supply.
That sounds bright π
It's not as bright as you would think, actually. And it keeps having issues with the last ~16 pixels. I'm not sure if it's timing, temperature, or what.
Have you tried attaching the com to the end of the led and the power to the other end?
Half way to travel for the current
Ironically, the end that is bugging out is attached to power.
I am sending power into start and end, and not connecting the positive/negative wires in the middle.
On that pic, LED #1 = top left, LED #288 = top right
Did you blow them out perhaps
I heard they recommended putting a cap on the psu to prevent inrush when starting
Do you need addressable leds for that project?
Hi guys
could give me some advices about what gas sensor or smoke sensor to buy and integrate into hass.io? Thanks in advance
Xiaomi has some, right?
no
List of FAQs, including one explaining the difference between Home Assistant (the software) and Hass.io (an installer).
You can probably integrate it into Home Assistant

Hey, I experienced a breaking change in my automation. I used to poll the temperature of my climate, and somehwere in an update the integer it was looking for changed to a float. I had to change my template to accomodate for this.
Here's what I changed:
-{{ is_state_attr('climate.serre', 'temperature', 20) }}
+{{ is_state_attr('climate.serre', 'temperature', 20) or is_state_attr('climate.serre', 'temperature', 20.0) }}
I used an or instead of just adding .0 because from my testing sometimes when updating it manually it still returned the integer. I can't really tell why it would be inconsistent.
Just wanted to post this in case someone else is experiencing the same problem.
Well, that's off topic here π
The right place to post woudl be in #330944238910963714
Ah, that was under support and I didnt really need support
Try reading the channel topic though π
For chat around things that aren't Home Assistant related ...
eh sure... I preferred reading the categories on the sidebar, saw support and didn't really think a "general" channel in a server named Home assistant would disallow talk about home assistant
It's about the only channel where it's off topic π
Going to buy a POE switch, when the cameras im going to run is "DC12V & PoE (IEEE 802.3af 48V Active)", what power supply do I need to run the POE switch?
The docs of the switch will tell you π
Usually the psu will be built in though π€·
Hm, I thought about buying this? https://www.ebay.com/itm/8-1-Port-POE-Switch-IEEE-802-3af-at-Power-over-Ethernet-for-CCTV-Camera/182696221460?hash=item2a898b1b14:g:AmUAAOSwSvVdCGFB
Power Supply: DC 96W/24V π€
How do you do it Tinkerer
Okay, so I must buy a 24V power supply? What does "- Power IN: DC 12-55V" mean?
@clever mortar it says "Note: Power Adapter is not included."
Never worked with any of those in the wild though, I used to have a procurve 2650 for Poe before, then I went for injectors for a period , and now I run a aruba 2530 poe
Well, in that case, buy a 24V one that provides 96W π
Yeah, I've only bought PoE switches that come with a PSU
Okay, next prob dumb q, as I run 24v IN, will it also be 24v out? The cameras is 12v.
No
If you don't know how PoE works, buying random kit off of EBay is not a good start π
so aslong I buy this, with a 24V/96W power adapter I should be gucci to run it with 12V cameras (IEEE 802.3af)?
yeah I know, but the cameras is only 40 USD, the 20m cat6 is 8 USD so I am all about keeping the costs down ;P
Don't know the device, can't promise anything π€·
@clear ferry In theory it should be good? π
Magic smoke is a good bet if it turns out to be a crappy switch
yep ;P
Theory is just made up stuff until it works π
Thanks for the help though π
No waitz only one Poe π
Something like that is affordable if there are no bidders
Yup, if I find something in EU
that 70 usd shipping thoπ
Whatever market place your local country has then π
buy a unifi usw 60w 8 port 4 poe switch for like $108
then you can power cycle the ports with your phone
Ugh.. I just popped open my hallway light switches, a 3-way setup between two light switches, to replace them with GE Enbright Z-Wave switches and Add-On... And it looks like whomever did the wiring of the house.... Used the black wire for line on one 4-pair romex, white wire going to the other switch, and red wire for travel, but then wire-nutted a white and black wire together inside the primary. I don't... Entirely see a neutral wire that's plainly obvious.
Heh,.. I might need to get me a wire tracer to verify which wires actually go to what, just to be absolutely certain.
guys
do you think I can defrost my refrigerator's freezer part?
I want to put every frozen thing to the fridge compartment
then plug it out
and quickly defrost the freezer compartment
could this work or it is nonsense?
It is possible to defrost a freezer
With food in it?
Whether you can... π€·
That you're having to ask if it's possible suggests that this could be in interesting experiment...
I would not trust the food after that
It depends on how many people you yet have in the freezer tho, and sizes as well as weight. It could be very heavy work to lift them all out there
If you have no help ofc
I guess they are both powered by the same cord, usually you defrost by unplugging, but I've seen double units that can power down just the freezer
Read the manual
its an old whirpool
I've found a reddit thread: "How to defrost or de ice this freezer? A pick? Just let it get warm?"

"'Do what I did. Chip it out with a big knife until you puncture the cooling system and have to buy a new freezer that doesn't freeze up like that." (best answer yet)
I have 4 freezers and two fridges π
Use no sharp things. Use hammer and chisel, it'll be fine
ah then I do not know. The things is I do not want to threw everything out, yet the freezer part is quite full of ice now
If I sudenly wanish, someone check @clear ferry 's freezers
π€£
but then I guess it needs to stay like this for a while
- Move all food
- Turn off power
- With a bowl of boiling water, carefully defrost the freezer
- Use only plastic tools to remove ice
- Wonder how you made it to this stage in life without having been shown how to defrost a freezer
It is easier at home because there are a lot of appliances
Yup, I'd defrosted freezers many times before I left home
I just moved to this apartment
my problem is not with that I cannot defrost it
but there is many things in it and I need them π
Things don't thaw between you buying them and getting them home
Buy a second freezer/fridge, gotta think redundancy and uptime!
@clear ferry yeah, will to that, it is small anyhow, so I think I will get another freezer
that is right
I will figure something out thanks
We defrost our main freezer once a year, just take the food out, bag it, and go
As long as you don't take hours you're fine
oh, I see
so it is a better option to get freezer bags than to put it into the fridge
but yeah I bet there is colder inside a bag full of frozen stuff
π€·
then in the +6 or something like fridge
I don't even use freezer bags for the main freezer
I also don't defrost it in the middle of summer though π
that makes senseΕ±
-Ε±
thanks guys for thoughtful yet funny comments
Appreciate it

Anyone around who read the Elements of Style and can answer this?
Oh god elements of style
Well this bites.
I was going to wire up my hallway light with dimmer switches but there's no neutral wire in the switch gang box.
And the only 4 conductor wire just goes between the two switches.
Even more annoying is how the line wire nuts to the black wire in the conductor to the other switch then comes back to the local switch via the travel lines used there till finally the load wire to the light which is on the 3 conductor wire in the first gang. Pretty bad design.
Sounds janky
Yeah, reaaaally old wiring.
Most of my lght switches don't even have neutral wires in them at all. :/
π’
Lame
@undone aspen they only ran a 2core cable?
Yep. π
Are you US based? 120v with not earth seems stupid even if its not used 3core should still be run
No no. Three conductor, 1 is ground.
Light circuit wont work with just a positive and a ground/
Positive neutral and earth ?
Line/Live/Positive the one you really dont want to touch lol
So how do your lights work without a neutral
Is line, load, ground.
The neutral is only wired at the fixture of the light itself.
Not at the switch.
But the same 3 core cable goes from the switch to the light? or is it split so the line goes via the switch rest go direct to light?
Split. Hehe.
Worst lol
Indeed. The switches were wired just for the load only. (And ground)
And i want to fix it but that's such a pain. Lol
Buy lights that only need line/load and no ground. Then change the purpose of the cables from the switch.
Heh. Yikes. No. I'll rewire with proper code.
Nice , just got a snap from my hometown, they woke up to -2c and frozen windscreens
Hey atxbyea guess what I am doing
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm leading questions your honour!
I'm up to Britten: War Requiem
David Sylvian is pretty interesting, Secrets of the beehive is one of my favourite albums
Weird avantgarde jazz
mmm yeah
I skipped the Darkside thing though
like I started it
Ayreon was cool but too damn spacey for me I think
The albums are all connected too
You might want to begin at the beginning and work forward
I have, but for the most part I am only listening to a few songs of each
Aye, I enjoy the electric castle a lot, and 010010100
Okay done with this Britten, 'classical' style music is not so much my thing
Magic Pie time
Aye, the Norwegian prog rock amazingness
What do Norweegies know
The suffering joy is my favourite, but the rest of the albums are also great
Skipped the second half of the Overture
its too widdley diddley
hmmm richochets seem to not let me play

now thats some snow
I've skipped two of these artists due to your description ;)

gotta move efficiently :)

Pfff Jordan rudess is a master
Then why couldn't he get Petrucci to stop playing too many damn notes
π π π π
I'm onto Leonard Cohen, who I have some music of but am not overly familiar with
ohh yeah these things lol
Ohh some Dylan
I have a Dylan album and it sort of drove me mad
This is better than the Dylan I have lol
yo you can order 10 die cut stickers for 1$ again at stickermule https://www.stickermule.com/p/93e60c0a?ref_id=6310111701&utm_medium=link
ordered some home assistant stickers
oh lol you need to upload your custom design
that's just a preview of what you could order xd
if you need more you can check the unixstickers repository https://github.com/unixstickers/foss-swag-designs/
It's times like these I mildly regret not having a laptop to cover in stickers

I always need more stickers
Stickers ordered! 79p GB... I just need to upload my logo which is upstairs

Lol well it's 10 for $1, but a 1-off. I tried getting 100 for $10 but that dont work - you pay full price for all the others
Does anyone have any recommendations for HA compatible "buttons" to toggle lights on and off (must pass WAF)?
Don't have switches in the new place, so will be using lamps.
I know there are the Philips ones, as well as the pico remotes. Those are the only "switch like" ones I'm aware of though

Sorry. I thought device discussion was to go here if it wasn't specifically about ha. My bad.
HA compatible π€
anyone here had success connecting mitsubishi HVACs to HA or other domotics systems?
keeping also the manual room panel working
the docs ive read dont say anything about being able to use both a wifi adapter and the panel at the same time
hey everyone, i've collected quite a collection of stuff over the years of obtaining Home Automation nirvana (and we all know that will never be reached!)

@undone aspen I thought about unms but it doesn't play nice with an existing docker env
Ahh.. Yeah, I don't care too much about docker, personally.
I prefer KVM VMs to containers any day of the century. π
All my crap is in docker and we use it a lot at work
Especially docker containers.
For development... I'll use docker for quick testing scenarios, but for actual use? Not so much.
HA doesn't play nice with swarm though which makes me sad
At work it makes a lot of sense for the product I work on. Using swarm with the built in clustering and native high availability concepts
Hmm.. If you say so. π
I do high availability and clustering with other means. π
Containers4lyfe
VMs just mean a lot of resources plus base OS management I don't want or need
Plus long start up times,
Yes! Got my Lutron Caseta hub working.
@wet pilot @undone aspen I've been running esxi for 12 years, now I've moved all my stuff to bsd jails and docker, quite happy so far
cringes.
I did too, just two months ago
But the product feels very mature right now and I needed something slimmer in my garage since it is also my studio
So I retired my whole blade enclosure for a small ITX box and a 12bay storage box π

@hushed basalt thats what all of the anti docker people say at first
waste of my time
ansible is love
I need to learn ansible too
I love ansible too
For a project I'm the only one in Norway who can deliver π
@brisk glen sorry what do all anti docker people say at first
"" I tried using ansible on my windows desktop
Waste of time. Was easier to just do everything manually ""
lol
replace ansible with docker
I think a ansible can be a bit verbose sometimes, but it seems all the yaml based stuff is trending towards verbosity
Yeah I've make a fair few roles and playbooks
I tend to make more roles and tasks, and my playbooks are just a list of roles to run
But there's no denying it's extremely verbose compared to a shell script
I know the reason for it.
lol
Also I find the ansible documentation very tough
Their documentation search engine is pretty useless. Always have to go through google.
I need to play with molecule too
dash for mac is a must for programmers etc
Ew mac :0
Dash is an API Documentation Browser and Code Snippet Manager. Dash searches offline documentation of 200+ APIs and stores snippets of code. You can also generate your own documentation sets.
π
I regularly use mac, windows and Ubuntu desktops on a weekly basis, but mac makes me tear my hair out
how so?
Just, using command instead of control for a lot of stuff
Poor window management,
Full screen or nothing sort of stuff
never had issues with window management
I just find I'm always fighting mac
I allways found I was fighting windows
Windows will have WSL2 in mainstream soon too :D
I added that windows snap thing however to my mac setup with magnet
You are both wrong, you should be running HP-UX
wsl2 = ms giving up on proper intergration and going fuck it, its going in a vm
God damnit, I actually need to check in luggage tomorrow because I'm bringing tools
Usually I leave for the airport an hour before the plane leaves, now I have to leave two hours before π
@clear ferry bagdrop closes 20 min before departure. Gate closes 10 min prior. Easy peasy
Yeah, but whenever I need bags checked something happens which delays me, so I add a buffer π
Tired of rebooking flights
Self-checkin is 40min (or at least it was the last time i flew) π
40 for international and 30 for domestic was what I thought
Or maybe 40 only was for outside Schengen
Yeah, I flew to Bergen, so that's kinda international
I hate Bergen, they always find something in my bags every time
Last time it was a drill bit
Time before that it was a miniature wrench
That's not allowed?
The departing airport I flew into Bergen with didn't mind π
Only Bergen cares and confiscate it
I've taken scissors in planes by accident
strange, drill bit, can do virtually no harm, not allowed a HUGE umbrella you can actually use as a wepon, no problem π€·
Takes me 20 minutes to the airport by car, and 10 minutes to walk to the security point, and usually I have the furthest gate, so 1h suffices when I travel without luggage π
A friend of me once flew with like 10 bucks weed in the breast pocket of the jacket from germany to portugal, he borrowed the jacket from a friend π
"borrowed from a friend"
That won't cut it in the Australian border control mate
We are shipping you home, on a Barbie!
@clear ferry EBD or EBP?
Well I once got in a control for a small festival by the security and they ripped me off because we were wearing club related clothing and after they took off all my weapons he pulled some small package of the deeps of my jacket with weed seeds, I didn't even know anymore they were there and I was like carrying them for a year already or so π
So what we learn from that, as @clear ferry said, never go to australia
@ocean mirage yes?
Is it not crazy expensive there?
@vast dove ?
If I parked at the airport for my holidays I'd probably spend more than the tickets
@ocean mirage it's affordable enough, but work pays when i travel
oh cool, right
@clear ferry frequent flyer status π
On an airport near my place was once the story that people who left their car there at a service for like 20 bucks a day that the car afterwards suddenly had like 1000km more on it. They just used them π
@vast dove oh, was ebs but I'm ebb now because company prefers Norwegian
I see
:p
this appears to be in lorem ipsum or some other nonsense language
Lol. Norwegian
In English
"1 uke Drop-in" - Good to know they will take care of my ukelele
But you are so good at Google translate @ocean mirage I expected more π
@clear ferry how is your Gdrive crypt doing?
It does have some funny sentences sometimes, but then I assume thats just you
Keeping cadavers in Gdrive
Didn't you say you wanted setup some similiar thing with gdrive and rclone?
Oh, I'm going to do backup from freenas to gdrive
But I haven't gotten around to it yet
Not in the freenas GUI, so have to figure it out on the cli π
lol well that is nothing I ever touched or want to touch. But in any common linux it is pretty straight forward to setup rclone and do the mount
Depending of if you crypt or not tho
Rclone is a bit cryptic sometimes
But it's okay once you get your head around it
Especially encrypted mounts,
But it actually is almost simple. I don't know every aspect yet, I have the problem to find out how to delete data, but getting the data in is easy π
I dunno, I consider myself a pretty smart guy but it took me a while to figure out how the encrypted mount works
Me either, but looking at the setup itself it actually is pretty straight forward. Tho in my case I still need to figure how to delete files π
RClone is freaking awesome. I use it so I can use Google Drive as a backend storage. Now my NVR and media server has "unlimited" storage. Up to like 130TB on it
I do the same but I'm not fully finished, I'm probably having the wrong setup
I use a combo of rclone + mergerFS + scripts to upload files (its faster to keep them local and then upload in batches)
I have the exact same. But how would you delete files?
Files are deleted direct. Technically goes through mergerFS. Let me scrounge up my mount systemd file
Because my mount is RO, and the upload folder is writable, and both fused to the application folder
ExecStart=/usr/bin/mergerfs \
-o category.create=ff,minfreespace=0,allow_other \
-o dropcacheonclose=true,security_capability=false,xattr=nosys \
-o statfs_ignore=ro,use_ino,auto_cache,umask=0002,noatime \
-o rw,suid,dev,exec,async,sync_read,auto_cache \
/mnt/local=RW:/mnt/teamdrives/*=NC:/mnt/remote=NC /mnt/unionfs
Thats my mergerFS systemd. =NC means no create. So it RW so it can delete from those remotes but can't write from them
In my case the mount is already RO
--allow-other \
--buffer-size 2G \
--checkers 32 \
--config /root/.config/rclone/rclone.conf \
--dir-cache-time 144h \
--drive-chunk-size 32M \
--log-level INFO \
--log-file /home/scripts/logs/mount-auto.cron.log \
--read-only \
--tpslimit 10 \
--vfs-cache-mode writes \
--vfs-read-chunk-size 128M \
--vfs-read-chunk-size-limit off \
--stats 0```
Allow it to be RW via RClone but when you mergeFS it, mark it as NC
What is NC?
"No Create"
Mh seems reasonable... will need to check that out when I have some free time π
@quiet drift posted a message that is too long, it is moved here --> https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/M6yhmrQ4NR/
Thats one of my systemd files for a mount. I have a ton of them
You can put off --fast-list
I dont think its needed. Leftover from waaaay back
Also remove --max-read-ahead
Ive actually had --fast-list cause issues on my security folder because its thousands of tiny files
Since fast-list doesn't do anything at all on any mount I doubt that π
And max-read-ahead requires a custom kernel compiled with the same parameter and size, else delete it as well π
I was using the --fast-list command in my script, not my mount
I think a mount ignores the command but a move definitely does not
Yeah, maybe, I just talk about your mount you posted ^^
Im just too lazy to go through 10-ish mount files to remove the line haha
Then use sed or something and let it do it for you π
what happened
swapped out my nest thermostat for an ecobee...
took getting into the guts of the heat pump wiring...
3 hours, temp at 86F
3 chats with tech support
but it is cooling, and integrated with home assistant
so google, FU.
nice
i like my ecobee. i have it connected to hass using homekit controller, so it's locally controlled instead of using ecobee's garbage api
it does limit what you can do with it though. you can't have the comfort settings for example
but i have my tstat schedule living in home assistant anyway based on my alarm system status, so i don't care about the comfort settings
and i basically defined the comfort settings in home assistant, and i have buttons in my frontend to switch between them if needed
@unkempt umbra Tin Foil Hat On YAY!! The cops in the US will have yet another camera to monitor!!! Tin Foil Hat Off
yes, mine is on the third floor, in an apartment complex
you ordered an amazon spying device that sends your videos to the police?
so enjoy loooking at the wall across the hall
@unkempt umbra your apartment complex has interior doorbells for each unit?
yes
oh is your unit door accessible from the outside instead of there being a front door to the building that you have to go through first?
yep
ah makes sense
I just know I want to know, if that's going on.
I wish I had good luck with ring
connection to it is terrible even with an ap next to it

wait wut
hahah
ive been looking for a good peephole camera for a while
got a chinese gsm connected one long ago and i want something i can integrate with my surveillance system
NVR and all
@midnight adder can even help police if you buy one /s
https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2019/08/28/doorbell-camera-firm-ring-has-partnered-with-police-forces-extending-surveillance-reach/
Oh wtf is this
I'll pass on this wow.
Doesn't really matter since the damn this disconnects every 5 seconds
lol
philips hue smart plugs are a thing now
Zzzzz morning airports
best place to ppl watch
especially in the morning.. unless its a business traveler.. those people have NFTG
where you flyin to?
Just from Oslo to Stavanger for a day job
very nice
@clear ferry this should help you pass the time : orteil.dashnet.org/cookieclicker/
Broken π
hmmm... im on it now
I hope I get upgraded to a Tesla rental

Joe is a genius
You are just mad because he plays guitar better than you!
Cloudy with a chance of meatballs
I have no idea what Any of those things are
Eh if you like him nbd
but calling him a genius is impossible to back up
white blues guy plays white blues and acts awkward
hehe
also he claims to know where one of claptons stolen guitars is but won't say, the jerk
I actually played in a suit and sunglasses in my last band
Probably had better hair though
SKINNED
@clear ferry so Amazon de is also not an option?
It's too far Nor..th π
And Norway hates people who buy stuff abroad
We have 25% import tax on anything over β¬30
far out
Because "we have to protect Norwegian businesses"
Do I hear there some Trump?
I'm surprised everyone doesn't move out of that country
Mh my storage doesn't get freed up
/dev/nvme0n1p2 433G 376G 58G 87% /
Wtf is this
what are you trying to do?
I have downloaded 350GB of torrents, those got uploaded to Gdrive crypt via a script, source gets deleted, they appear back via the Rclone + fuse mount and therefor it should not use any of my storage after uploading
Filesystem says no
26M /run
17G /var
12M /root
5.4T /mnt
5.4T /home
4.5M /etc
2.2G /usr```
lsof
In /mnt is the bare rclone mount and in /home the fuse mounts, there is nothing taking the 380GB π
lots of those files are probably still open somewhere in the system and that's keeping them from being fully deleted
lsof will tell you which if any
About a few thousand lines so I don't go through that. However that should not happen... It has to release the storage instantly
Seat ateca rental today, disappointed
Netdata, rtorrent, MySQL, php-fpm
sounds about right. rtorrent didn't let go of the files
Well it shouldn't "really" lose them, it should pick it about instantly from the fuse mount so they stay in seed
I have to rework all that shit I guess
`lsof |grep '(deleted)' will give you all the files themselves so you can confirm
That's just the same as before?
ah ok, been a bit
yeah, its basically the same output
but yeah, if rtorrent is keeping everything open, just restart it
But that is not going to be my daily doing. This is a server and has to run 24/7 without me manually cleaning shit up.
Thx anyway so far, I will test it and then probably rework the setup and discuss with rclone or so..
i use transmission and don't have any of those problems for what its worth
might also be worth restarting mysql and php-fpm every once in a while too. those aren't typically great at cleaning up
If some day any Linux server torrent client will have the most basic features I will freely change
its always served my purposes
have it running in a docker container these days
been using it for about 10 years at this point
And I do the same with rtorrent, for 10 years. I haven't looked at the others for at least 3+ years, indeed
I would be wondered tho if they finally added features
/dev/nvme0n1p2 433G 17G 416G 4% /
heh doubt it
Nice all torrents are out of seed
Nice they get rechecked now, one after one and one already shows unfinished
Fuck this shit
yeah, i usually leave the files be and let sonarr/radarr hard link them to where i actually want them. go back through and clean up the download location every so often
I don't understand. The torrent client HAS to pick them up from the gdrive location of the fuse mount. Else that whole setup would be useless
is this for adding torrents?
The upload dir and the gdrive mount are fused, the client is writing it in the fuse. And they get uploaded and reappear in the same dir due to the gdrive mount again
The question is as usually, how to solve it. π I work for weeks on this and finally want to reduce my monthly bills
userspace file systems are usually all sorts of wonky
π€·
Jesus when people order servers and switches in parts
??
Assembly is easy righttttt
At least enterprisey stuff is usually more plug and play
Anyone know how to make a magic touch mirror?
Or is that not a thing yet?
There's a YouTuber who made an awesome looking one, but he won't reveal the build and what he used for it
I once saw kinda guide for that, i think with a raspberry as backend, but honestly before I do that myself I rather buy it lol
Guess googling "raspberry touch mirror" or so could help
Have anyone here made predictive automations based on future electric prices. As the prices are set a day in before, should it not be possible to automatic adjust the water heater heating to the hour the price drops during night?
or does anyone use any AI deep learning to predict actions in HA?
Think plenty of people use machine learning with their cameras for stuff, remember seeing someone using it to detect when his back yard gate was open from his back yard security camera
Tho this is not the place to discuss HA
all about that MASHEEN LEARNING
Alright, I found my new HA system: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/oracle-raspberry-pi-supercomputer,40412.html
ServeTheHome asked Oracle why it chose to create a cluster of Raspberry Pis instead of using a virtualized Arm server and one company rep said simply that "...a big cluster is cool."
Lmao
1 nanosecond reboot time
so i've now had two turtle beach headsets fail in less than two years...customer service has been less than helpful. won't be buying another one again
Well.. they are cheap so π€·
I've mostly enjoyed my logitech headset
razer kraken was ok, but razer's driver/software is terrible
Merde
@scenic radish Sony mdr-xb is what I've bought the last 7 years, I have three different ones, they withstand everything I throw at them, falling down from racks, being thrown across the data center and me playing around in my studio
@upper tinsel yeah, I ended up buying a Logitech one. We'll see how it holds up
@clear ferry thanks for the input, I'll have to take a look!
I have the mdr-xb700 which are great studio headphones and if you want to annoy the f out of people, the mdr-xb70ap for on the go, with molded plugs for my ears, and MDR-xb950 for more easily driven wireless working
i do have the ATH-M40x that i mainly use for drumming that i like a lot... maybe i should just buy an inline mic for it
those are some great cans. i've had them for almost 5 years now
Audio Technica headphones are generally pretty great I've found. There are some decent aftermarket mics you can slap on them, though I haven't tried any personally
I have had the 300 bucks Beyerdynamic MMX but it is a real headset, so actually game sounds, music videos and such really weren't fun. I exchanged it for a beyerdynamic custom Game but both of them had a broken cable after like a year. And I swear as soon as it breaks again I actually have no other idea then getting some Beyerdynamic 1xxx (the new ones) and a ModMic
Headsets are just generally shit. Either quality or sound, maybe both
I still have some studio mic laying around but honestly, that is just too much space it takes for me
Zzzz return flight
Had to rebook to a two hour later flight
Meh, I have to book a tattoo appointment soon, I've been putting it off for too many years
Great album btw
Wow the buildings are much denser than I imagined
Oslo is pretty dense
Not like the countryside where I live
Still one hour till I'm at home, been up and at work for 15 hours so far today π
When you only work 50% you gotta make the most of it π
I wouldn't have had time to fly back to finish this job until the middle of October otherwise π€·
That would be a nightmare
Best time to replace it with Fiberchannel :P
I've seen a repo company taking racks from the cage next to our in the DC. For the power underneat the rack, it was also diconnected normally. For all the cables on top, they just ran a chainsaw across the lot. Then they wheeled out the rack on a fork truck and let a truck flung them into a dump truck with a JCB.
https://thegadgetflow.com/blog/8-home-automation-systems-that-will-actually-make-your-life-better/
Home Assistant didn't make the list π‘
Also most of those are just smart devices, not home automation platforms...
Really only Samsung FartThings counts
I mean that is 90% of home automation articles and YouTube.
Oh no, how could they not make the gadgetflow list, how will HA survive! π
I haven't had time in like three weeks to touch homeassistant πΏ
https://open.spotify.com/track/3afkQv7Jmmu7dFVKa1WRUJ?si=IL5vj9DSSFuopClrW1EPtQ probably one of the best bass solo parts of a song ever
Been too busy with work and an adventurous 7 month olds exploring the house
Yeah with 7 months you have no way of return
pff, I fix HA atleast three times a week, with a 10month old π€£
it has been steadily less the older she gets though
I don't even think I've been on the home computer in a week
Cries in time poorness
You had a return time of 3 month
π€·
You can get humans of any age rather from the asia region
They even can repair your smartphone then
hey
π
Would Amazon Rekognition do a better job than tensorflow?
Ah jeez, guess I can no longer recommend the Smartthings Buttons... connection wise they work fine, but the damn things take such a harder press to activate now they dont trigger half the time
@upper tinsel xiaomi 4 lyfe
no my keybo isnt working... wtf
There we go... does Xiaomi have good buttons?
@clear ferry which ones do you use, and do they do temperature?
I use the square one buttons and I use the double "pole" buttons in the bedroom, hangon let me link
buuut, let's move over to #zigbee-archived , this is #the-water-cooler π
https://jobs.lever.co/scribd/503a16da-a319-42f6-9c73-ee2a6e51d331 Wonder if experience configuring HA counts?
What you'll do Core Infrastructure plays a fundamental role in both our on-premise infrastructure and our efforts to upgrade infrastructure towards AWS. As an infrastructure engineer you will be part of implementing the infrastructure to support the continued growth of Scribd...
@strange vapor yaml comes in handy when I willstart looking at ansible I guess π€£
So i found the xiaomi roborock at an interresting price. How do I convince my gf we need it?
What's the price?
that is not interesting price π€·
):
I bought mine for β¬400 almost a year ago
Yeah that's more than I paid
with norwegian import tax included
as to the worth of the vacuum, it is probably the best smart device purchase I have made. It's between the roborock and my door lock
well i don't really have to convince her. she knows me and she gave up already long ago. if i find it for 400 or less i'll really think about it
Why do you think the door lock is the best?
I really enjoy having a (somewhat dumb) robo vac, makes the place seem cleaner that much longer
Not having to carry keys is nice, being able to let people in remotely, revoke someone's access code if I want. And it has been one of the most reliable devices I have
Hm, can see the value in that. Which door lock do you use?
For us I think the biggest value would be being able to check if the doors locked using voice (and closing it).
That was another bonus. But you kinda need a sensor on the door to make sure it's closed as well if you want full peace of mind
On the other hand, with the right robot vac you can generate Doom maps..
I have a kwikset 910 zwave deadbolt
I think the roborock edges out the lock. It is an excellent little device.
@upper tinsel Doom maps?
Yea, some of the roombas generate a map of your home for navigating. Someone made so you can use them to make doom maps
https://www.geek.com/tech/this-roomba-can-turn-cleaning-maps-into-doom-levels-1767458/
Lol how boring that must be to just walk around your own house in a video game
that is just wrong on so many levels
levels
I see what you did there
oh, yeah.
@low harness loved that game. Had totally forgotten all about it
playing on de_homeassistant in TTT "oh someone triggered the traitor trap and turned off the lights... oh no wait, someone coded the automation wrong"
it's condition: and, not condition: or dammit!!
you mean the default?
Oh I see, a human joke π
I sort of wish Google Assistant had a roboty voice
I HAVE BEEN LAUGHING FOR {{ now() - joke }} MINUTES STRAIGHT
lol
i just wish i could set a custom hotword...
There's a roborock voice pack that sounds like a badass robot, but it's in Chinese
@scenic radish everyone wishes for that
yea..
I mean, at least they didnt announce custom hotwords and then not release it for 2 years... like some other feature I guess
Ah thats another thing I hate, the stupid "Hey google, let me talk to dererrrp". So intuitive.
Agree, hopefully it will get better in the future
tru
Woooooo... Dang... I was just curiously looking at what batteries the Fibaro Door/Window Sensors have, and holy bajeebus they are the oddball ER14250's which are about $9/pc each.
Where the SmartThings Multipurpose Sensor uses the CR-2450, which are 5 for $4.
@tall escarp did you also play the demo from Pc FΓΆr Alla to death?
Hmm, and the Fibaro Motion Sensor that I really WANT to get, uses a CR123A, which is about $4~$5 for a 2-pack.
@low harness I cant remember, probably π
Just imagining battery replacement costs and reoccurrence of replacement for various possible sensors in this whole scheme of things, while also trying to find similarly compatible devices in the mesh network of things. Since my light switches are ending up being Lutron with their ClearConnect RF, I won't have Z-Wave repeaters throughout the house,, and my current use of SmartThings sensors are ZigBee which obviously won't repeat Z-Wave either.
Robotic voice would be kinda cool, but why can't google home sound like HAL, that's all I've ever wanted...
Heh
So, I'm reaaaaally thinking I like the Fibaro sensors for motion, because pet sensativity. But I am curious, without the Fibaro hub that they have, can you configure their sensors with, say, a SmartThings to accomodate, since those are somehow programmed/setup that way?
?rank other
That role no longer exists.
Z-Wave device configuration is part of the Z-Wave standard - no hub required
You only need one for firmware updates
Hmmmm.
Well, the aspects you can configure in the Fibaro motion sensor is range, pet sensativity, and other aspects, and I just wonder how you would actually do that.
Well, in HA you use HA's Z-Wave control panel - I assume that if you're crazy enough to use ST that it'll have something similar
Heh, Craaazzy enough? It simplified things for the time being. π
You know it's your day when:
- you leave work and some dude parks his car beside yours and leaves 20cm space for the driver door
- you finally find out your setup is fucked due to limitation of good software
- you have to diagnose why almost every PC game crashes almost instantly at your wifes PC
Insert more reasons here
On your first day to a distance place, you end up in hospital.
My living room PC refuses to launch certain games until I unplug/replug a usb device. Any usb device. That was a fun debugging process.
Still no idea why, I assume it's a driver issue
Right now I try to figure about the SSD's, since someone at work has the same issue and already tracked it down being the SSD (or connection to it)
But that doesn't seem to be it
Also there has nothing changed worthwhile
have you tried turning it off and on again?
The last few days a few times..
well damn, I was sure it would fix it
Only games though? Have you tried anything else that uses the gpu?
Well, fun fact, she just played almost a hour Forza Horizon 4 which uses GPU at least 100%. GTA V only crashes occasionally but it does on my PC as well. However Civilisation 6 always crashes when ending the current round. Assassins Creed Odyssey crashes exactly when entering the new DLC mission, but loads on my PC just fine - it crashes on the Nvidia Shield too tho. Fallout 4 crashes instantly on startup as well
Any launcher options for "repair game files" or so don't have any results
memory issue maybe?
Mh... will test
anyone know where certs get served from? e.g. I have 2 pis, Pi1=hassio+nginx+certs, setup nginx to point to pi2 at a subdomain of pi1, does pi1 serve the certs or does pi2 need it's own certs to serve
Each system needs the certs locally
In your case though, the exposed system is NGINX, which is where the certs live
awesome so I can generate the cert on pi1 for test.duckdns.org and sub.test.duckdns.org and pi1 will serve the sub.test.duckdns.org cert even though it's pointing locally to pi2
nice that makes it simple, right now I have a scheduled automation running overnight to copy over the certs but that's useless then π
You don't have such a problem using a proper reverse-proxy -cough-
i'm unclear on the channel to ask in, i need help setting up a new tuya device
If you mean integrate in Home Assistant then #330944238910963714
If you mean flash the firmware then #551843800209686539 or #551843558676758569 or #diy-archived
A) it's not on the wifi until i can find some instructions of how
B) i'll go with this option if the stock firmware isn't suitable
RTFM?
The manual it came with will tell you, but #general-archived if your Google-fu fails
i got this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33010332202.html and the instructions are yet to show up for me
Smarter Shopping, Better Living! Aliexpress.com
i don't even know what the device code/name is
so i am not sure what i search in google for
Well, post details in #general-archived and see if somebody can help π
the box directed me to tuya
thanks, i'm new at these types of devices
all my other stuff is sonoff
Tinkerer: I'm surprised you didn't suggest ApcByte ask in #general-archived...
i'm sorry if this is the wrong place for this, but does anyone know of an alternative to the zwave minimote (which seems to be not sold anywhere anymore) https://i.imgur.com/8K1Cvij.png
#zwave-archived Can help you with what exists on the market if your local Z-Wave shop doesn't stock anything
Remember to say where you are
I'm in the lounge on the couch if that helps
Yes, yes it does
It tells me that the beer is within reach π
Hmmm I has no beer in the lounge, meaning a stand up and walk is in order
@clever mortar thanks!
@wintry crow going to need you to make an acrobatics check to see if youre too inebriated to stand and walk
Well the dog just took a flying leap from the kitchen door right onto my plums, so acrobatics from myself are definitely not imminent
hm did you mean to link the commit? (I'm a github noobie)
Yes, as that has just the relevant bits.
ah kk, will need to steal that once I move into a house lol
Well, and some work in progress stuff. I'm working on rewriting my presence system to something inspired by Frenck's.
SO doesn't want to ever use GPS from her phone, always thought it would be neat to generate how far I am from home, compare that to her typical time home, and whichever is < 20 minutes, turn on the AC
