Hmmmmmm I need a @light trout in a cage to make integrations for me ๐ค
It would be cool to set one up to upload the data to an mqtt broker when you get home
I thought the WiFi OBD2 stuff was only to connect them to the phone via WiFi, as in they presented an access point for you to connect to
If you don't car about all the info from the OBD2 and just car about home presence you can do this https://github.com/aderusha/MQTTCarPresence
I use that at my house. It works pretty well, not 100% though
Yeah it's the info that is most interesting, the presence detection I'm trying to implement with Bluetooth or camera I think ๐ค
If you pull in too quickly and shut the car off it can miss the wifi connection
(I use mine for the front door lock btw, not garage opener)
Ah that makes sense too bad you can't hook it up to get power from the lights that stay on for like 30 seconds after turn the car off
I would like an integration for all three cars, that send the milage to ha, and correlates it with my insurance milage cap , that would be sweet
That makes sense are you in the US or canada?
I need a coder gimp ๐ค
Oh I'm in California if you were asking me
I started to set it up with torque and tasker but the torque app is such a pain to use it needs a big update to make it much easier to use
Norway here ๐
Actually that's a great idea with the lights
I was just about to hook it into a fuse directly
@clear ferry oh I was going to say the Automatic would be perfect because it gives you millage, location etc, but only works in the US
I'm pretty sure they blacklist non-us vins from working
Oof
I used to use torque back in the day. I might give that a shot. It would be nice to automatically log gas mileage data
the real oof is it costs $100 and it used to include all the services for 3 years but now its 3 months for all the data then $5 a month
the only free stuff is like the obd errors and driving history
I don't know how well it's going to work when I use android auto though...
no real time info
Alright now I convinced myself to buy another bluetooth obd2 connector ๐คฃ
I paid for the torque pro app years ago, might as well get use out of it now
Same! I have it installed and have the connector in my car but I literally do nothing with until dash light comes on
So I am at work and I rebooted my raspberry pi, but now it won't come back online, Usually I just power cycle it manually and it comes back on. Since its storming outside I am kind of hoping for a slight brown out to power cycle the pi
I do mechanic stuff myself on all my cars, so the OBDeleven plug I have is often used ๐ but some cheap China ones would be good enough for permanent installing in my cars
@dark swallow long live out of band management, not that shoddy raspberry pi stuff ๐ ๐
Lol right. I need to put a smart switch on it so I can power cycle it anytime
except for the fact I use most my smart plugs through HA so I caught myself in a paradox
Just have one sonoff switch that can toggle the server on and off
@clear ferry does the OBDeleven app only work with their obd plugs or can it work with any plug?
@unreal orbit and yeah I'm only kidding about not being able to control it without HA I can always just ask google assistant
True. But then you have to have a cloud integration ๐
@clear ferry dang because that system looks slick
and lol again not opposed to them just rather not use them when I don't have especially for automations or other devices where other people expect a direct response
My family will hit a physical button and if the light doesn't come on immediately they freak out and start spamming the button. which just makes it worse
I'm opposed to them if that's the only option. I don't like the idea that it's just a matter of time before I will lose control of my devices
Every cloud service will end eventually.
cough nest cough
But yup! I agree, or logitech
i have two remote hubs working perfectly fine with HA dec/jan comes around both stop working because they auto updated with no warning
Auto-updating platforms are the worst
then I did the logitech fix and one still auto updated a day after i did it, kept doing it for weeks until it finally started to work again!
if only there was a better ir remote hub like logitech has
I've heard good things about the broadlink one, but others swear by logitech so I'm not sure which one is better
same, just the first remote my dad got has a terrible touch screen
also why can't they add support for using more than one hub in the same house!
my guess is that logitech has far more features, but broadlink works extremely well for my purposes. I use a Harmony 650 remote for other stuff though and love it
Yeah logitech does have plenti of features including the ability to pair it to bluetooth devices and not just rely on ir works great with my diy kodi
all kodi commands go through bluetooth volume still goes to avr like it should over ir
@dark swallow you need to get your raspi on a UPS with an auto power cycle
@vale slate yeah I know I just don't know a which one to get
oh and the ups hats are constantly out of stock
I should grab a ups from a customer next time they replace one, but usually the batteries are almost dead by then
Could probably get some cheap replacement somewhere
aren't batteries the most expensive part in those
Depends on the model is my experience
I need something that can keep a blade enclosure, three blades, two core switches and two Nas boxes alive for atleast 15 minutes ๐
Graceful shutdown is always preferable
Lol most of my things I need graceful shutdowns on are raspberry pi's (HA, nas running omv, and kodi) so running them for 15 minutes would be so easy
the nas external hdds on the other hand I have no clue 2 of them are from like 2007 and probably have a lot of power draw
That is just the stuff I need on ups, I have four times that in the rack๐
Lol I figured, I ideally I would want my pi's with poe so I can easily manage the power of all of them from one spot but i only have one B+ the others are justs B's
There is a Poe hat right? Doesn't that work with all? I thought it just converted Poe to a usb plug 56v-5v
No it only works with the B+ because there are 4 special gpio pins for direct power
sorry for directing the power from the ethernet to the hat and back
I had a stupid moment today
Showed upto therapist 24 hours ahead of time
Node Red tried to warn me. My time checker said it was 1400 minutes in the future
lol thats great!
What do you mean node red tried to warn you? you mean it saw you going to your appointment and was like not today?
No no
I was setting up a Alexa Reminder automation
and the "time diference" between Epoch Event and Epoch now converted to 1400 minutes. I even converted that into hours and saw 24. I just didn't put the facts together that I was looking too far into the future.
Hell the date was 17th not the 16th
I just had a brain goof
Oh I see! that makes more sense!
So I show up and my therapist is like "Uh hey! ^_^; You're supposed to be here tmmrw" and I'm like ":O ... x_x"
Freudian slip?
Hey guys I made a video on how to use an old phone as a home assistant webcam:
This video will teach you how to turn an old iPhone or Android phone into a streaming webcam using Home Assistant. Here are the products I used in this video...
Nice, I will use ESP32 cam for this purpose though ๐
@naive slate
you can do the same for android with IP Webcam
setup is here https://www.home-assistant.io/components/android_ip_webcam/
wtf - there is a deam iphone from celi - wich tryes to pair with every BT device.. What a pairing whore
Everybody should listen to *ick Cheese, get down with the sickness is wunderbar
Im getting semi regular drop outs from homekit. Home assistant still works fine but homekit just shows devices as not responding. It sorts itself out after a couple of mins but its mildly annoying. Any idea why its happening?
Anybody got good tips on what drives are in what external cabinets? I'm looking for 4x10TB drives of good quality, but buying external usb drives are always 10-20% cheape than buying 3.5" drives for some reason
Are there any Ham Radio operators here attending Hamvention? If so it would be nice to meet up.
Check #diy-archived as well. I imagine there might be some overlap there.
To answer my own question, appears the WD elements 10tb drives usually contain white labelled red drives
And the red drives are $390 while the elements are $250
It's not that big, we sell 32tb ssds, and can fit 1920 drives in a single system ๐คท
@twilit saffron so I am not attending hamvention or even a ham radio operator but I am just getting to ham
I almost got into ham 20 years ago, glad I didn't, I'm nerdy enough already ๐
Ham & cheese sandwich๐
@dark swallow nice, it's a fun hobby. Something else to use up your time and money ๐
@twilit saffron when home automation, DIY projects, tube amps, musical instruments and exotic cars isn't enough ๐
@twilit saffron @clear ferry yeah really I definitely needed something else to make my money disappear
What else is that raise you just got gonna do? ๐คท
lol it could do a lot, like pay my student loans off
oh help me move out of my parents house (just graduated and parents are great to let me stay, not complaining but would like my own place ๐)
Lol @clear ferry yup that sounds about right
I got my own place when I was 16 and been free ever since ๐
lol wish I could do that! but living at home with the only rent being helping around the house and free meals is a really nice setup, and I'm mostly free to do whatever I want other than like trash the place, so again not complaining about my situation just need to move out soon
also @twilit saffron when I say I just got into Ham Radio, I mean like just yesterday got my first radio and I am completely lost
@dark swallow what radio did you get?
Anyone here using FlexTV? https://github.com/d8ahazard/FlexTV
Anybody here that is using the printer sharing feature from synology?
Woot my automation worked. When my door closes. Monitor scans and then I'm marked as home
The problem I have is that when my phone is in my pocket in my office. Monitor in my living room can't detect it
so I'm gonna have to buy a second RasPi Zero
:/

Is there a way to directly control Ikea Tradfri lights with a Logitech Harmony remote (with Hub)?
Any nabu casa users experiencing connection issues? Its been working flawlessly for weeks, suddenly canโt connect.
@valid halo are you looking for your phone via wifi?
Yes. I'm just being silly. \
@unkempt arch #cloud-archived
@unkempt arch same here, connection issues as well since yesterday night, from HA to Nabu Casa. I tried to submit a support ticket 2 times but doesn't seem to work as well (I am not receiving any ticket confirmation by email)...
Google news says that SanDisk has a 1TB MicroSD card
finally I can history ALL THE THINGS
@valid halo you should see the customers I have that run their database in RAM, on systems with 48TB memory ๐
"We never turn the computer off. Just put it all in RAM."
An enterprise database in RAM vs one powerloss boi
Aye, SSD and NVMe is too slow for realtime analytics
I need to buy a new SSD. Windows is bitching that my 120GB SSD is too tiny
DC's don't have power outages, then they wouldn't have customers ๐ also it is always replicated synchronous to at least two sites ๐
See this is why I still only have a CompTIA A+
Probably as useless as my N+ ๐
It's something to slap on my resume.
I'm glad European managers have started looking at actual skills the last 10 years instead of just resumes
I fear the US managers are not as progressive
Honestly i Just feel depressed looking at job listings.
entry level doesn't feel that way when I look for it.
I remember reading a job listing from intel once, asking for someone with 35 years experience with chip design... Come on intel, you already know the guy you want to hire
My job called out for a masters and 5 years experience, I had neither, don't be afraid to try ๐คท
Soon I'll have an associates and I can babble about how I've dabbled in Java/Javascript/Python/YAML working with Home Assistant
I also did some rocketry in Python thanks to KSP.

anyone have any Motion "PIR" sensors they love using with HA?
Xiaomi @normal vortex
I might have to look into Xiaomi once I get a job again
People keep reccing their stuff
I'm waiting until I'm done with my summer trips
Then I'm gonna go be a drone at shoprite or fedex
I'm using a sonof with a PIR soldered on...

@clear ferry are you using zigbeeMqtt addon?
Nope, I run ZigBee gateways (hue, tradfri, Xiaomi)
Zigbee2mqtt is proving pretty solid so far for me, though I don't run Hass.io so no add-ons
I'm considering going that route as the tradfri gateway is very easily overloaded, and I have 30+ bulbs
ok @clear ferry and @clever mortar, I have the addon installed as I was thinking about using the Xiaomi per some online forms.
FYI, #zigbee-archived is where to ask about Zigbee stuff in general
@normal vortex I ordered from AliExpress

Anyone using a google home hub for cameras via home assistant?
curious: what's everyone using for TTS playback? cheap bluetooth speaker, echo device, etc
thinking of writing an automation that sees the kids turn on the light switch at 5:30am and tells them to go back to bed
I use amazon polly TTS with some cheap speakers and Raspberry Pis all over the house. They all play synchronously, and woks like a charm!
i assume not-pi-zeros?
plus, I use Pis in different rooms for various uses - some connected to kodi, some uses DHT11...etc
same here - I bought a handful pi zeros when they were on sale for $1 in micro center
i have had to go to microcenter everyday for the last three days for stocking up on zero ws
@last plaza what was the deal with the take down notice
if you buy more than one at a time they charge $15/pop instead of $10
@north bane haha! I had a PDF file (supposedly internal training material from docker) in my repo... and they took my repo down. I recreated under a different name ๐
Lol. I did find the ninja examples new location
yup - take a few friends with you
it is now called mysmarthome instead of smarthome

I do not use echos, or google homes... they are nothing but trouble!
My cloud paranoia makes mr want to move off them
ive got a couple echos but only one is unplugged, and i'll be dead before i let a google home device in my house
You don't trust Father Alphabet?
not really tbh
we had echos before - until one day they started saying something in the middle of the night in our bedroom.... that was it! they found a new home, garbage can
then again brother bezos is becoming more and more concerning every day

what chu gonna use it for?
I looked at it and I was like "This is far too much reading. I give up"
@quartz ether Iโm using home hub with camera stream component
@clear ferry A Pi2 for Zigbee relay (eg Zigbee2MQTT) should be fine I'd have thought. I'm actually using an old laptop with Proxmox, and zigbee2mqtt doesn't feature in the system load
Awesome, thanks, I suspected as much ๐
That may change after I hit up AliExpress/Gearbest/whatever for a truck load of Xiaomi devices though ๐
Yeah, I've got a pair of door/window sensors running already, a router, and both a Gledopto LED controller and a Xiaomi motion sensor to sort out
After that it's about 35 or so more door/window sensors (for everything), a bunch of temperature/humidity sensors (a dozen or so) and a bunch of motion/light sensors (a dozen or so)
At least it's a fraction of the cost of going Z-Wave ๐
Yeah, the 1/5 price can't be argued with ๐คท
Sooo.. what to brake today ๐คฃ
If you have to ask, the answer is always everything ๐
I'd have said the question is what not to break ๐คท
found out that the hassio data is living in /usr/share/hassio
not only that I could mount a drive in there. I could also use this folders for the automated backups.. ๐ค
when I would symlink the data directory of zigbee2mqtt into the /ssl asking me if a full hassio backup takes the files..
oh sad.. linking would work - but the folders are empty outside of the cli
I wish to break some spirits, but I don't have apprentices anymore ๐คท
I should get one
@sand badge How do you find it response wise?
Adequate. About 10secs before stream comes up. Good enough for a doorbell camera though
Hmm. The demo vid of camera streams when it was released seemed very quick and responsive but all my testing is no where near as quick to show. (often doesn't stream on safari). So thought I might get google home thing to use instead.
10seconds is long enough for some numpty to open the gate and the dog to run out before I can see who is there / hold the dog back
My mibox is a little quicker. Just tested now. But still around 5secs
I gues I could just set it up and leave it live feed on the camera 24/7 not like I use the UI at all...
My current camera UI page....
What cameras?
Uniview IPC3614SR3-DPF28M
My whole setup for HASS is pretty cooked atm. I just haven't had time to fix it, so looking to do fresh install but figured may as well get a plan to make the cameras perform perfectly first.
Live stream to tablets?
If you chase "perfect", you will never be done, settle for ok-ish
Need to have cameras either come up very quickly when I need them to. Display with motion detection and not lose their shit cause Zoneminder has crashed.
Not impossible to get pretty cose to perfection with that. As for the rest of my setup... lol
@quartz ether zoneminder crash? That hasn't happened to me in 4 years ๐ค
Anyone have openalpr local and a stream feed running in a docker setup
Please be advised, if you're out in public, you may be recorded. That recording may be used to mock you forever

is anyone aware of any good home-assistant compatible apps that I can use on a Tizen TV that would actually be worth it ?
are there even such things?

I know there are a few people using reolink cameras, I managed to obtain the api documentation on them and Im wondering is there a way to have homeassistant make api call within an automation?
you could create a rest and command line
good examples on this page https://www.home-assistant.io/components/switch.command_line/#control-foscam-motion-sensor but i just do everything thru blue iris
That looks exactly like what Im looking for. I considered a surveillance software, but I just use ftp and HA/reolink app for viewing.
i'm trying to migrate to hassio and trying to follow frenck's config method. but i'm noticing thta i don't see an option for scripts or automations under config.

Ooooh smart, I know @edgy iris was looking for a solution without drilling a hole in the pipe, which was what my idea was with a flow meter, but your solution is even smarter ๐
I was thinking I might have to smear some grease in there or something, to get good thermal contact, but just two medium-duty cable ties done up tight works well enough

Hi all, I have lurked around the HA project for quite some time. Now buying a house with the misses and excited to finally get to implement a system of my own. The home we are buying has a 3 zone furnace setup. I have been following the google induced drama around the Nest Thermostats and I dont subscribe to ecobee's cloud first mentality. What are other thermostats that I should be looking at? Priorities for me are ease of use in case my older inlaws are in the house, wife acceptance and of course HA integration. Appreciate any advice.
There's a few Z-Wave thermostats that look mostly like normal thermostats, or Venstar has a wifi thermostat with a fully local control API
IIRC they make Z-wave and Zibbee Thermo....ninja'd
๐
They look just like your boring old thermostat is true. No shiny LEDs or OLED display
Okay I need to investigate something
Home Assistant says my automation was triggered in 11 hours
wtf
On the plus side. I've got it set up in Event Ghost to open the Ring App and open live view whenever it gets a notification
Maybe I can set up auto screen recording too
so one thing i've noticed with HA is that if i connect to another wifi network, say for example at a restaurant, HA does not like it for some reason.. anyone ever notice this?
What do you mean? Connect your ha to another network?
basiclly connect to my HA from another network. I am using duckdns
What does HA do when you try to connect?
it just tends to hang, or says unavailable.
I don't use duckdns, but I connect to my ha from atleast 10 different WiFi networks per week
Hmmmm
its only once in awhile it happens, so it might be the wifi network i'm on. I mostly notice this when I'm connected to the wifi network at the model railroad club i belong too
i did have a thought though that would be a interesting automation... so if there was way to motorized the opening/closing of windows, that if say your not home and you have a couple windows open and it starts to rain that the windows would then close..
That is easy to implement I guess, I even heard someone in the #creator-connection did that when local bushfires broke out
I remember I had a fun idea
My sister's apartment has one of those doors that slide into the wall instead of turning on a hinge
I thought about trying to automate it so it's like star trek
goes WOOSh
that moment when HA reports a new device tracker id and you have absoltuely no clue what that device could be....
I had that with monitor the other day
Random BT ID that is Google but it's not my Pixel
so I'm like WTF
I don't own any Google Homes
Yeah but in my case nmap found sth and I don't know what it is
And it's offline now ๐ค
This a concept i kinda come up with using drawer slides since i have mostly sliders
That's funny
@valid halo that would be called a pocket door, fyi. but i do like that idea..
anyone having issues with google assistant sync that doesn't have ha cloud?
nvm, needed to re-enable test mode
Anyone here know how to setup Adguard Home?
I've already set static ip to router, but AG doesn't seem to be blocking anything.
@hallow stratus Did you set your routers DNS servers to point to ad gaurd?
I can't find the setting on my router for some reason
Says in the adguard guide, that it should be under DHCP, but I can't see it
Is it a router from the cable company or one you bought?
Yeah I think they locked it down so you can't change the DNS Settings. You'll have to get a router and put the Superhub in modem mode
Or just have individual devices point to Ad Guards DNS
Ah man, that's just great, thought it might of been something like that.
Is Pihole the same?
Sadly yes, pihole works the same way. I'm in the same situation but with AT&T
It should work if you just point individual devices to the DNS server though, doesn't work for things like smart tvs though
Okay cool, how would I go abouts do this?
Any downsides, besides manually entering for every device?
Oh, so you are saying it has to be setup on the device itself?
Not really any downsides except having to do it to each device
and yes you have to do to each device and change the DNS settings
some allow you to set DNS settings based on the connection, like whenever connected to this wifi network use these dns servers
Ah, I got to many devices for that. Nevermind, appreciate your help @dark swallow ๐
Yeah I figured, I will say I just did it on a few devices I personally use just to reduce ads and its nice, but I really wish it could be network wide
Anyone having issues with Travis since .93? It keeps failing when attempting to install ha
Specifically homeassistant-pyozw
How do you guys have your HA setup as, by Room or by Devices for Views?
I have Tabs for each floor right now but only have a minimal setup
I've have it set by Rooms, but I've seen many prefer to do by device. Not sure if I should switch over.
The homescreen consists of grouped devices.
If I had more things per floor I could see doing by room but most floors only have things in one room right now
But I started setting up smart home things and the wife decided she wanted to move
So limited things
Hmm, I see what you mean
I do have a "misc" tab that has a bunch of device type groupings but they are things I don't need to look at normally
Like I have the workday sensor for automatons but don't need to see it normally
"I want to move dear." "But-But I just got the Dishwasher to feel love!?"
We are outgrowing the house but I've become disillusioned with smart bulbs and would rather have smart switches and don't want to put them in just to take them out in a year
I've already told her I'm smarting up the new house all the way and she agreed
I'm trying to setup duckdns, upon setting up port forwarding on my router, it's asking for local/external start port and local/external end port, what do I enter?
for local start it should be 80, right?
HA runs on 8123 by default. Unless you changed something or use a reverse proxy that is the port you want.
Okay, I was following the tutorial here: https://www.juanmtech.com/hassio-duckdns-add-on-set-up/
Learn how to configure the DuckDNS add-on in Hass.io so you can access Home Assistant remotely and securely using an SSL connection.
That also says 8123
In his video he says something different
then in the end ports to 8123
ok it seems in the video was for forwarding let encrypt, which isn't needed
Hi everyone
@hallow stratus Why dont you just have both views? One set for room, one for device type?
Hey guys, what is the best way to install home assistant?
I had hassio once where I really liked the simple installation of add-ons. but It was confusing to use shell scripts there
I had a script (whatever.sh) that pushed my config to github. but I wasnt able to use it with the Shell Script Component
Ah I see. I personally find add-ons really powerful and love Hassio
IIRC hassio restricts what the shell scripts can do
yeah so thats the reason im leaning more towards hassbian
And docker ?
Does Duckdns work without entering port?
I have to enter :443 on the end, for the page to load
Dunno, never used one. From the outside it looks like an interesting option though
Gotta go, bye
As long as you prefix the URL with https:// then you shouldn't need :443 on the end, as browsers automatically know that https is over 443
DNS has nothing to do with ports @hallow stratus - it's the web browser that requires the port if you're not using the default port for the protocol
I have hairy ears. When did that happen??
That's called getting old ๐
Or I've turned into a hobbit
If you're constantly snacking, and also have hairy feet, it's a possibility...
Unfortunately, just now I'm never snacking. Holiday in 5 weeks and I still have 14 pounds to lose
Salad + noodles for the next 5 weeks
Duckdns, keeps disabling itself
# INFO: Using main config file /data/workdir/config ERROR: Lock file '/data/workdir/lock' present, aborting.
SSL seems to be a problem, I can only access ha via http://name.duckdns.org:443 only
hi, i'm snicker and I have a silly addiction to automation and controlling devices from other devices
Try to lay down for a couple of hours, if that does not happy seek help from a doctor
Calibar: Do you actually have an SSL cert?
@hallow stratus are you using the hassio addon?
I believe so, it had generated a certificate on first install, now it doesn't work
@trail crag yes
ok so you want to uninstall the addon, reboot (not restart HA), and re-install the addon to be rid of that lock error
Alright, give me a min
Good point, think I drifted off from another subject lol
I just happened to be clicking around
anyone got any ideas to automate my bedroom chicken coop
Are they quiet enough when you watch movies etc ๐ค
how do you sleep with chickens in your bedroom?
hi
anyone using openalpr on hassio??
I'm so weak. I'm at micro center buying a esp and sensors and a wifi camera
Damn you home assistant
Pick one up for me @valid halo
@midnight adder could automate the light, maybe a pet feeder?
Honestly the way this world and people are going ... i would rather the chickens than people
tbh i think its kinda cool but i bet nosiy at times .....if they have a roast of some sort they sleep too ... as a kid i used to camp out next to chickens and had no problem
I bought an Adafruit Huzzah board. a PIR sensor. A temp and humid sensor and some header wires. I also bought a Wyze camera
I have no idea what I'm gonna use it for
but when I'm driving 45 minutes each way I'm making it worth it
I suppose I can stare at my dogs while I'm away from home.
Anyone use this puppy for HA? https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/desktops-and-all-in-ones/thinkcentre/m-series-tiny/ThinkCentre-M715q-Tiny/p/11TC1MT715Q. Other than transcoding, it looks more than sufficient for a speedy NUC-like install
@clear ferry old but hilarious AF ๐
@tranquil bone i don't have it but from its specs it's a killer unit. i'd totally buy one
Guys i didn't follow much what happened to Nest, i only know the essential, sooner or later i'd have bought a smoke sensor and separately a co2 sensor. I want them to be in separate devices.
What would you recommend to buy?
@tranquil bone haven't used Lenovo's micro PCs but Dell's are pretty great (though more expensive). Definitely a huge step up from a pi
Cool, thanks for the affirmation. I will look at Dell too. Damn thing is so cute and AMD though. Holding off only because the Syno is doing a decent job with some heavier programs offloaded.
@tawny pebble For Carbon Dioxide I use Awair myself. Others tend to include a screen and be more expensive: It also senses dust and VOCs. For Monoxide and smoke, hmm. I still have a protect -- Nothing comes to mind I've seen that's directly supported with the sensors split out. DIY maybe? Sorry
@tawny pebble do you want a CO2 (carbon dioxide) sensor or a CO (carbon monoxide) sensor?
2 weeks ago my ISP stop provide port forwarding and now it really hurts. What i can do? VPN?
I take it you're trying to access HA anywhere?
yes, i cant access my rest sensors and application wont work too
Your best bet is probably nabu casa
my be but what about open ports for another services
i just dont want suffer with closed ports, so im looking for solution
I don't know much about this but from what I can tell if your ISP locks you up you might be stuck. the only way I can think is get you ha instance running through a vpn but I am not sure that is possible
@clever mortar is it posible to run HA instance through a VPN? i don't have any open ports still ISP changed they mind to deny them for all ๐ฆ
Tinkerer is away for 18h 29m 11s with a message :point_right: On the road again โ ๐ ๐
@soft zephyr go for Nabu casa, it will work behind a terrible ISP
it solution only for acces GUI but not for ports, right?
Hi all, i have recently installed nginx proxy manager, and i can access hassio from outside with my own domain.
Now i've triend it wit bitwarden also subdomain to ip:7277 bit i cant access it
@lime anvil then you probably screwed up port forwarding or the proxy, we don't know ๐คท
@soft zephyr what do you need ports for?
port forwarding is 443 and 80
i can access home assistant just fine with ssl
so if i did screw up that would be an error to right
i have 5 HA instances with same ISP, them have different services and rest sensors and i doubt nabu casa help me with ports
@lime anvil if you haven't forwarded the port you are trying to access you logically cannot access it
@soft zephyr then you might need a site to site VPN between the sites alsp
7277 is also portforarded don;t know if its needed
7277 is default of bitwarden plugin
I'll go digging
@soft zephyr I've used openvpn site to site for years and was happy with it
@amber bramble CO. My bad ๐ฑ
I'll add my voice to naba casa as well, but I'm also puzzled as to why it'd be needed. By necessity 443 and 80 have to be handled, so you can shift to an interior proxy forwarding system in your own network. I use ports right now for the internal proxy, but could just as easily use path contexts over the same ports @soft zephyr with a little work.
@tranquil bone I'm guessing he has five instances on different internet connections / houses
@clear ferry Heh, yeah, I just discovered that line and was about to edit my post. Fair enough on that score
Could use webhooks perhaps, depending on what he needs to do๐คท
Does anyone here know if HA supports the GAssistant Set-top box/Remote device type?
The Component page didn't give me a clear info
Or rather the research
@dark sparrow do you have an example of a device? Never heard of that ๐ค
I do. For example setting up a media player / remote to use in GA. Which would support VolUp/mute etc. Currently media players show up as switches
If possible id like to get the harmony hub working that way
anyone using the Nginx Proxy Manager (NPM) to remotely access NPM? struggling to find the right settings to access it via mydomain.duckdns.org:81
@signal sentinel seems like something you don't want to expose to the internet, but what do I know ๐คท
Think this will run HA?
@clear mirage probably not, but I could probably get it running on a GS1280 or a Superdome 9000 ๐คท
@clear ferry lol, now that would quite fun to see if you could
I only have a BL860c, RX4640 and RX6600 in my garage, but I could give it a go with an older Linux edition with ia64 support๐
That thing will run HA like a PSP runs Windows 95
it'll run but the boot up time is 4 hours
Have you tried Win95 on a PSP? ๐ค
The Superdome 9000 will boot in 23 hours with 16 cells and 192 PCI-X cards, that will suffice ๐
Thankfully the biggest I've worked on only had 8 cells and 32 PCI-X cards ๐คท

@quartz ether why are you using hassio now?
Using a vmdk on unraid.
Integrations and addons are sooo much more confusing to troubleshoot than just coding in a venv.
I must agree that hassio is confusing at times
like apparently addons dont have saved log files. You have to goto the addon page if you want to see them
Hey
I prefer having full control than a convenience that I don't control ๐ @quartz ether @sand badge @valid halo
I think I have done almost everything I can with the addons and integrations now anyway... so its back to coding to get the rest working and thats all very much the same. I do like the built in configurator def easier than opening atom every time
You can setup elastichsearch + kibana to collect the logs of all the containers @valid halo then you will have a single place for all your logs

anyone who can recommend a good small size micro sd card (with url to order) ?
live in the eu so that's a factor..
have bought some from aliexpress (bestseller) and from amazon.. none seem to work..
small size micro sd? like small capacity?
good luck with that ๐
It can be more, it just doesn't need to be
just go to a local computer store and buy the smallest sandisk one
Even the corner drugstore might have that
i know TEDi sells them and drogerie-markt

kingston is ok too
I bought sandisk and kingston, both seem to not work for some reason
locally or on aliexpress
what are you using them for since they don't work ?
xiaomi xiaofang camera
i have also same issue but after the firmware updation , solved the issue(camera firmware 3.3.3.25)
i have a dafang and kingston, transcend and a random chinese brand all work
installed the hacked firmware, and all seems to have gone fine, but I'm not getting a frontend
I cloned from another microsd card that does work (also kingston) but still nothing
I can see the IP is online, havent tried ssh
NOTE: I initially had a 2GB SD card, and I couldnโt not get anything to work. I switch to a 16GB card and it worked. The 2GB card worked everywhere else, but not here. Iโm wondering if the Xiaofang only reads SDHC cards(usually cards that are 4gb or more). If you run into issues where it seems like the camera isnโt reading the card, try another card.

I have a variax 300 too ๐คฃ
Old one, but it's fun.
I love it
I used it in a band when I had to play both bass and guitar, so I detuned the whole guitar a whole octave in software, then it was a bass ๐คฃ
Just saved it as a preset
I find the tuning thing disconcerting if I can still hear the strings.
I have to have headphones on or a decent speaker behind me ๐
Only alt tuning I tend to use is DADGAD.
that almost looked like a slideguitar tuning ๐ค
I have never tuned DADGAD, but it sounds really nice on youtube
I need to try it out
It's really popular in Irish Trad music.
Have actually carried the Variax into a trad session as they wanted extra people in and it was the only guitar I had down home with me. Confused the hell out of some people when I set it to acoustic and started working away!
haha yeah, I know, I played it in concert a few times, and people go like whaaaaaat, but that is an electric guitar
I don't like the 12 string sound, but the 6 string jumbo is better than any of my 6 string jumbos ๐คท
Generally tend to use just the Jumbo as well, although in the case above I used the Banjo once or twice to truly freak people out ๐ Also find that I can pull off stuff on the Variax with it's electric guitar action which I can't pull off on a proper acoustic.
I generally tend to cart a keyboard to trad sessions, but you have to be there early to get space to setup. When that fails, my preference is acoustic guitar, but if there's already a few there I'll carry in an acoustic bass guitar.
I've wanted to buy an acoustic bass for some time, but I think I would rather prefer to rebuild one of my electric ones to a fretless ๐ค
or get a small upright like the one Tony Levin has
The Acoustic Bass is great, but has to be hooked into PA or have a small amp.
Even the likes of the Blackstar Bass Fly does the job handy for small sessions.

@dark sparrow I'm used to work on 40 and 100Gbit, hence the sadness ๐คฃ
Anyone can get 1Gbit in norway basically, do you have to be a business where you are from ? ๐คท
Apparently. My house is locked to Vodafone and their highest cable internet speed is 1Gbit
And business only
is that a 1Gbit\1Gbit or ?
depending on the vendor you can have here it will usually be somewhere between 80-100USD per month for 1Gbit synchronous with no limits
I could get 1 Gbit without having a business with 1gbit down and 100mbit up for 80
But do I really need it ๐ค
meh, non synchronous lines are so 2005 ๐
Germany is so 2005 lately. Or the EU in general
We literally have a NFC chip in our IDs yet the EU doesn't push that further
up on a induction plate and done
we've had NFC in our passports since 2008 I think ๐ค
still a valid id
Well, it's no use if EU doesn't try to get companies involved
And I feel like they don't really know what exactly the internet is
I think I've used the NFC part in atleast 3-4 countries in europe, and I believe they required me to have it when going to the US
Well, america is fairly modern imo, EU is still somewhat stuck on old ideas
The most exciting thing we have so far is mobile payment and that's only in some stores
we have google pay in atleast 50% of stores now, which I do enjoy
biggest problem is my company credit card I have to use the chip still ๐คฃ
Yeah that's the thing here, most banks don't have NFC chips even tho all the terminals have that capability
I'm lucky to be with N26
oh, all the banks have it, alteast for 2 years now
it's the stores that are slow with nfc
Well, my mother's still doesn't, neither does my brother, father etc.
I do enjoy that I can use my NFC (both android pay and credit card) on the tube in london now, nice for business and leisure travel
So do I. I have a SmartWatch, my card, my phone and getting an an NFC implant soonish . (yes, I'm that kinda guy)
I was concidering it, for my access cards (I have roughly 30 access cards to datacenters) but because there are atleast 4 different standards I gave it up
and not all cards are easily copied
That's a big yikes there
Lucky me is still looking for an apprenticeship
So I don't have to bother with that yet
I was done with that boring stuff in 2005 ๐คฃ
Well, I was 6 then. And I have fought my way through the education system of Germany
Can anyone give advice what buy more powerful and new than raspberry 3B+? Something with USB3
any modern computer?
@light trout you mean any computer the last 15 20 years ๐
@soft zephyr singleboard ain't no fun, but I hear people chanting atomic pi
yes i was heard too, but them out of stock
Nuc or any nuc similar product is the way to go for most people I guess ๐คท
and what about https://www.asus.com/us/Single-Board-Computer/Tinker-Board/
That's barely better than a pi
yep, still usb2.0 and arm processor ๐ฆ
yes i have like 8 dead sd cards
So stop looking at boards with sd cards as the main storage ๐
I have never seen a single person that switched to a NUC (or small PC) that didn't say that โ
what you doing what you need so much power?
Again it's not the power, it's the reliability
Iโm using it for HA and unifi controller so far, I have plenty room to expand into other projects with the i5
im still on RPI 3B, with 8 rtsp cameras, a lot of sensors and automations
Peasants, all of thee ๐ ๐ ๐
But I am self hosting a handful of things that would overload a pi as well. Plex, HA, node-red, grocy, a few custom webapps, email server, gitlab, probably some other stuff I'm forgetting
nextcloud
I'm running 180GB RAM worth of vms right now, I need to expand soon ๐
Even if im looking all cameras in stream its only use 8% of CPU
You can marvel in the fact that you were only using 8% CPU the next time your SD card fails ๐
yes i understand that raspberry it is not reliable, but NUC seems very expensive and extremely powerful for some projects
raspberry is reliable, SD cards.... not so much..
More power than you need is never a bad thing
some people asking for install HA in them home but i cant tell them please buy NUC first
if you have 8 failed cards you are doing something worng, check your PSU
I spent $99 on my server. You don't have to get a "NUC", just a small PC
well more then 6 months i switched to ssd disc and its seems more reliable
@unreal orbit which server you mean?
Tons of usable stuff on AliExpress or whatever internet shop you hail to
but usb 2.0 isn't good for write speed
it is
Who cares, it's better than SD cards๐คท
https://ebay.to/30J7xaY here's the same type of computer I have for $100
