But if you ask it to 'i'd like to listen to 'no soy de aqui no soy de alla de facundo cabra'' it goes to hell π
As soon as two languages are used in the sentence it goes off, which is terrible for my musical tastes π
I am in the UK so it doesnt ever hear anything except english... Unless I am messing with it whilst speaking other languages... Very badly...
Fair π For that use it's very decent! And took for me less than 1.5gb of vram i believe
I listen to music in my three languages, so yeah, it got scrapped in like 2 days π
If its using parakeet its about 3.5gb. If you have it in multilingual it falls back to the whisper model which is smaller yeah.
I was not aware of that.
Parakeet is English only.
TIL, I assumed that it was multi due to the availability of that tag
I guess it used a smaller quant/param count than the Whisper i've setup.
Cause it was not as accurate
The latest version of parakeet (v3) is multilingual but this is not (at least currently) using it.
Michael... don't make me start a sunday project π
You might be able to select the v3 model in the config but it doesn't use it by default anyway π
lol.... Oops...
I already had to massively update 10 of my ESP32S3 BOXES config file for ESPHOMe 3 days ago. I need to rest lmao
2026.4 got me in stiches
I saw the i2s_audio stuff in the patch notes and thought "that is going to cause some people some work..." looks like you were the people I was thinking about. π
Hehe. Craft-agents with Codex took care of most of it
I also added VAD at the same time, turns out i was not using it
i also had to switch to LVGL... π€£ It was doing this otherwise with the new display mode
ah yes.
Slop generated slop
Maybe one day I'll have enough money to pay an artist for a custom avatar π
why bother just take the content rapist stuff and go happily some more? π
(ai techbros have a similar problem with the answer of "no")
nope but perfectly happy to use the slop built off it. π€·ββοΈ
Okay. Yeah, have a good one!
Btw, your phone was made by some person who is economically coherced into working in a factory β€οΈ
ah yes whataboutism.. a favorite of fox news π
its both, its possible to use AI and you're not really taking away work from somone because you were never going to pay someone in the first place but we can also critize companies that can pay artist and choose AI.
100% But the arguments used were fallacious.
As you state, if it wasn't for Gemini, I'd still use the default images
I got into it with someone that was upset that a social media person was using AI for subtitles "taking the job" of them because they wrote subtitles for work. Like yes that sucks that AI is going to take all subtitle writers jobs but also this is a case where that social media person was never ever going to hire someone to write the subtitles. The net benefit of more subtitles is a good thing for those hard of hearing vs being left out even if a few people do lose their jobs to AI.
Ideally we would have UBI if we are to stay under capitalism. but that's a different topic.
We can't stop the progress cause some folks might lose their jobs.
I'm very sad for gaslamps engineers, but electricity was the way to go
There are good arguments for being Anti-AI like most of these companies firing their entire staffs for "AI" is cover for wallstreet. They over hired as the economy contracts because of bad policy and they are saying they can down size to inflate their stock price when it really should be falling. The power and environment impacts. The fact that jr devs are not going to gain experience to become better and the vibe coded nonsense will leave giant security holes that no one will have the knowledge to properly fix them.
but blanket hate is a little silly.
That's not being Anti-AI tho... That's being anti capitalism.
ah yes, because you had to force people to use better lights
definitely! /s
AI is only 'bad' when it takes jobs. Eliminate the concept of jobs and AI is suddenly good
except That is the point of what they want ai for.
to fire the poors.
and make infinite money.
Well, nationalize it.
that is literally the point
So instead of redistributing a new tech to the proletariat, you rather we just let it go to waste?
i'm not thrilled with the natural resources it's consuming
Are you also agains't steam machines?
oh yes..t ech that just makes shit up constantly
there's the poor arguments again.
from the slop peddler.
Comrade, you went the 'rape' route. So don't talk about falacious arguments
as someone whose had to multiple times stop a site from being ddos'd by slop bots who don't take no for an answer
its appropriate.
π
Who hurt you?
I'm just not a sockpuppet for the rich mostly I guess.
I'm just using stable diffusion to make a character for my box and i'm being called a 'slop peddler who can't take no for an answer'
Please, tell me how much protests in an anti-capitalis context you've leaded
I'm at over 200 with photographic proof
hey you find a model that was trained ethically you show me the proof π
Same for your computer, phone, food, clothing then
ah yes, the fox news arguments; the favorite of the slop peddlers.
its weird how the facist admin really loves the slop generators too.
There is no ethical consumption under capitalism.
So unless you live in the woods, you do not have a moral high ground
And now i'm being called as fascists?
Bet
Very performative of you
you do love the same technology oddly.
I'll leave you be now, please don't @ me
We all love antibiotics and water. Your arguments are very weird
Penicillin is pretty awesome
ah yes, because again.. antibiotics and water totally burn the environment to the fucking ground to make the rich richer
yep.
totally.
good arguments again; honest question are you using chatgpt to do your arguing for you or?
How do you classify yourself, politically?
edit: i see i miss answered
Is this a bad time be assisting my home
Cause that might explain al ot
I don't give a fuck really
also very funny to bring up penicillin since we overused the everloving fuck out of it and now it doesn't work as well. π€£
Is this about AI? If yes that's oddly similar because LLMs in the future will degrade from ingesting their own text vomit, yes
LLM inbreeding is real
well its about the ai sockpuppet there. π
Oh no, you don't get to move the goalposts like that.
I "like computers". I don't like appropriating others' work and fucking the environment to use computers.
The use of a technology is dictated by its material conditions
in this case, a capitalis society
its fun to watch people stan ai harder than people used to stan elon.
you're not gonna win the argument with shit arguments π just drop it and move on from defending the slop
Why is the Home Assistant server full of politics too
Cause this person brought them here!
i was talking about my box and they went balistic
Man, i feel like I am arguing with Linus himself when he goes on a rant
linux has forums? I assumed it was all irc and email chains..
Well they call themselves Linux forums, all they do is discuss anime and get at each other's throats
So its the LKML but with anime?
I don't even want to think of how many anime-themed distros there probably are.
Aaaanyways, does anybody here know if tuya-convert still works on devices that are sold in this year?
Effectively
probably not likely.
They patched that a long time ago i recon
they really want that sweet personal information to feed into their slop π
Welp, guess my fish feeder will remain on tuya-local then
Build a custom one instead... π
I need to.. get around to connecting my heatpump to HA
since it ran off a tuya board thing I just have been lazy because those bastards used a goddamned 5v-logic-level serial. π
Been meaning to do that but then AliExpress slid a 15β¬ mystery plastics under my pointer and oh well
My gas burner wants to be connected to proprietary cloud services, my ass
Why the fuck a gas furnace needs connection to the manufacturer?
because they need that precious personal information
To get security updates so that it can continue to connect to them.
could you imagine if they were limited!?
like.. That hellhole that is the EU!?
Imagine, consequences for leaking or oversharing data! /s
They can see that I dont use the gas burner because using a space heater is literally cheaper
I rolled the dice on Mitsubishi's built-in WiFi. Their cloud service is hilariously shit (the heat pump only checks in once per minute, so that's as often as it would allow mode/temperature changes), but it has a completely insecure (zero authentication) local control protocol called "EchoNet Lite" (apparently big in Japan?) which works a treat.
IoT subnet is nice and isolated anyway, so I just use that.
I bought an off-brand heatpump and put it in myself a year and change ago
love the damn thing.. π
Id love to upgrade that house to a heatpump but eh dont own the place
<insert> is best distro
<insert> is best waifu
Same energy
by the way I use arch
it may be an easier pitch these days.
Same neck beard
"hey you know there's this thing that a fuckwit can't keep screwing up the supply of for heating and cooling right?"
In Germany Im not fucking sure
Thing is they recently replaced the old furnace from 2000 with a very modern one thats way more efficient apparently
π i'm on the third floor in an attic you'd still probably have an easier time doing it..
Thats still going to be doing a COP of < 1
Lemme guess you have server running there too? π
home server style yes.. still rebuilding that lately.
California keeps telling me to convert my gas appliances to electric, and also to stop using so much electricity
FANCY
8S6P 24v 120ah pack
I missaw and thought the wrinkles were sparks at first. Was thinking that was a REAL spicy battery.
How much youd lay down for that
not that much.
with tax return money.. the APC battery case I got free and just had to tear down.. the DC supply and DCUPS i got off ebay cheap. π
thats why I am using it; yes
Low volatility
I fucking despise replacing those shitty lead acid batteries in regular cheapo UPS's
like.. motherfucker you were never used why did you die you piece of shit?
Free sulphuric acid tho
sulphuric acid is not hard to get. pool supply stores have it.
Cant get more than 10% Sulphuric acid in Germany, goddamn shithole
Ye but license is only issued to companies
It's annoying having to order shit via the company
.... yes but I'm still not sure why you would need it? π
Well for some DIY chemistry of course
are you melting bodies?
Not making narcotics
I mean if you're hardcore enough into DIY chemistry.. just get the 10% and concentrate it. π
Ye but that's reaaaallly expensive
There are better acids for that purpose...
You pay for shipping of 9l of water for 1l of acid!
so is homelab/smart home stuff.. yet your ass is here... π
Dude that's fucking hilariously expensive!
do you want to trade that for mass gun violence and a shit excuse for insurance? /s
π
Hmmm what are gas prices like in burgerland?
3.30/gallon
2β¬/liter for regular
Uhhhh alexa convert β¬/l to usd/gallon
right.
I should get back to my battery project
Idk I stopped reading news about the US
I need to model that APC case
They started reading like joke articles
so I can 3d print the clamping parts for the battery cells.
Did you have experience with Na-ion yet btw?
Cuz Im trying to find people who can answer some questions about them
Nope?
they're much newer.. I prefer to get stuff from battery hookup since they're like
they ship something? I get it literally next day due to them being a state away from me
and they're mostly Lipo or lifepo4
and obviously I prefer the latter.
Holy fuck that's quick
I mean there are probably also no domestic suppliers for Na ion yet
Would all have to be Alibaba sourced mmmm
nor will there ever be anytime soon*
π
and if there is.
it'll be 10x the price
Idk Id wanna see Na-ion work out
It's promising
No need for mining Lithium is a big environment plus
Also we don't fucking have Lithium in Europe, which is why Germany underwent this huge deal with Chile for their lithium mines
so do I
I just have a realistic expectation of where the manufacturing will likely occur.
Oh yeah that'll be outsourced to cheapest possible place
Actually well
I think it will take place alongside Li-ion manufacturing, so existing factories
I meant due to shit like this https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/trump-damage-control-hyundai-immigration-raid-south-korea-rcna231589
Do I think any companies in battery manufacturing want to risk moving anything here?
hahahahahhahahahaha fuck no.
Entire idea with Na-ion anyhow is for them to be so fucking cheap you dont care about how many you need anymore, and for that to take place is like mmmmm nah thatll take a while
I mean there's batteries.. but for stationary uses there's also what I think china does a lot too which is uhhh..
kinetic batteries?
spinny death weight buried underground and spun up for siphoning off power as needed and etc
I mean stationary batteries, the large ones, in the past were always redox acid batteries
Whats efficiency on that tho
googling.. and..
Flywheel batteries offer high roundtrip efficiency, typically ranging from 85% to 95%.
so... not fucking bad considering its just
Hm thats really good lol
"spin the big fucking thing up and let it spin."
preferably in the ground though since y'know
Yea I expected there to be more mechanical losses
Fuck, mechanical engineers learnt electricity, we are doomed
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XffkqfymSXc
As flywheels
Attempting to improve the design of the Panjandrum, an experimental WW2 weapon, Adam Savage joins forces with Adam Stelzner, the lead engineer on NASA's next mission to Mars. The two experiment with a flywheel to see if it provides the same amount of power as the original, with dangerous results.
Subscribe to Discovery Australia for more great...
Are fucking terrifying.
I'll put that into my soon to be tism list
How do I convince government I am not building a doomsday device at home
genius idea for home defense too.
sign inside front door.
"you are now within range of my flywheel"
π
The big-ass power conditioners we have in our datacentre at work are a fun device
https://new.abb.com/ups/power-and-voltage-conditioners/voltage-conditioners/pcs100-avc-40
In short, it's a 1:1 isolation transformer (which for the 1.5MVA one we have weighs the best part of 3 metric tons), combined with a dual-conversion UPS that has a bank of big-ass capacitors instead of a battery
so a very nice voltage conditioner.
Near-100% correction of line voltage fluctuation in the range of -40% β +20% (~144 β 288V)
I have a super small version of that for my surge suppression on my computers.
that ever so slight amount of capacitance and resistance to change it has inside can actually keep my regular PC online during small power flickers its neat.
(i got em off ebay i'm not insane enough to pay full price)
Hmmm I recently noticed voltage sags more commonly, because my Sonoff plugs dont like them at all
Coolest thing about HASS imo btw
Just the way it logs everything
Satisfies me immensly
"As the actress said to the bishop."
caareful or you're gonna tempt palantir into working to hack HA instances for more sweet personal information.
Good I will install sensor inside the shitter bowl
they'll take it and find a way to use it to fuck you over somehow..
Yes by having DHL packages arrive only when my ass is detected for fucks sake
They already do it
lul.
could be worse
could be fedex
which one year I was on the front fo house on second floor looking out window past my pc and..
.... the motherfucker stopped the truck in front of the house; certainly looked
then left and labeled it "Undeliverable"
Motherfucker there was a path through the snow shoveled..
Man I worked as a parcel deliverer myself, its just a shit job
And before anybody asks, no I was never bitten by a dog
It is a shit job, but if you take a shit job and screw other people over because of it, those people are going to bitch about you.
I mean it takes a lot for me to put in any sort of actual formal complaint
it only nearly happened once
when someone at a CVS bitched at me for walking into the walk-in cooler to get the stuff that wasn't packed out properly.
like.
.. I'm in here because you didn't do this job; do you really want to make this a problem?
because you will lose..
Idk people can be neurotic it's a matter of life
If your job involves any large amount of driving or (other) contact with the general population you will definitely suffer the consequence of neuroticism
i'm aware.. i worked a pharmacy for 5 years including and during covid.
retail workers should be allowed by law to slap one customer a month
I think the world would improve greatly if there was a chance for assholes to get slapped
I'd settle for any kind of (preferably immediate) consequences for shitty behaviour
being smacked in the face nice and hard sounds like a good one
i've honestly been hoping to be waiting in line since leaving retail.. to be in line behind someone being a piece of shit so I can just go curse them out
As ex-DHL worker I also want privilege to deliver one package of shit to one dude who would always be home but never open when I rang, but then also didnt allow me to place it on his porch
God that is so annoying when people do that
I mean if people want to be that muchj of dicks then yes they dont get their shit too bad
for anyone that uses the ring keypad v2 with zwave mesh for alarmo control - they're currently half price on amazon
To clarify, those are usable directly through z-wave? No WAN integration needed?
Yep
I use them with alarmo paired to my zwave mesh
Interesting. Might be worth snagging one at that price then. For future projects.
Yeah you can use them for anything really
I vibe coded a couple improvements to a blueprint to sync them with alarmo but you could vibe code anything you wanted for button presses or whatever
i have no vibes
@tidal bronze about time you got caught. https://youtu.be/wnWDFiMTT28?si=i7X_3g3w4UzoZcb6
Police said the 28-year-old man allegedly stole the Legos from the box sets and replaced them with bags of dry pasta. Michele Gile reports.
For video licensing inquiries, contact: licensing@veritone.com
Fortunately, apparently you can code them
used to be able to disable ipv6 in the settings menu, but i see its still got that v6ip
I vibe coded one line of bash and felt dirty about it. I think I'm good. I prefer doing it the classic way.
I did grab one of those keypads though.
suffer and use it
matter is a psyop to make people use ipv6. /s
Matter is a psyop to get people to hate home assistant no slash s
isee
Amazon frustration free packaging:
I think itβs all a scheme to steal our vibes. If the product is free, as they say
Studies are actually showing approximately that.
Either we will elevate be the ruling class or become the guys that clean up after the robots
Iβm not wanting to be a robot cleaner
Everything I want to respond to that would run afoul of the politics rule. But suffice to say, I don't like your odds.
lol if you donβt embrace ai you will be left behind with a thumb up your ass
We canβt stop it the cat id already out of the bag
Itβs not an if itβs a when and with how fast Claude and other ai models are getting better we are so fucked itβs not even funny
The best you can do is embrace and find a way to fit into the new world not resist against something you have zero agency over
Thatβs not to say that specifically vibing is the answer Iβm just memeing as far as that goes
You can use ai to teach you not just do it for you
Honestly, I just don't agree with you. I respect your position, I understand it, but I disagree with it.
I donβt think anything else makes pragmatic sense
The people who run this world donβt give a shit about the general population and are showing us that daily
To be fair, AI as it affects you and AI as it affects me are two very different things. I'm politically active in a desert where they want to build what can only be described as a metric shitton of datacenters utilizing resources the area simply doesn't have to spare. It's an existential threat here. Whether someone makes a deep fake video of Obama doesn't matter to me so much as the direct cost of increscent greed. But it does give me a bit of a foul taste in my mouth when interacting with the technology, for obvious reasons.
I do it with powershell all the time. Can I write this yes will it take me an hour probably.
Iβm obviously not pro ai datacenter buildout and especially not with how they poison the environment. Youβre mistaking my realism with me agreeing with ai taking over. My argument is we canβt stop it and need to embrace or become the person that fills in the cracks of society and it wonβt be pretty work
No, not at all. I'm just saying the hard costs are hurting me first, and it's affecting my view some.
I have expertise AI can't replicate though, so I'm not too worried about falling through the cracks.
Basically within my own niche I'm the guy they turn to and say "everything else has failed, traditional solutions won't work, we're out of options, what have you got?"
Eventually ai will learn that or theyβll create new tools that donβt need that type of expertise
Good luck.
And or your kind will only be needed in very small numbers
Oh, that much is very much true. But in my niche, I'm currently the only one.
Not saying it's all perfect, not saying I want that to be my solution, but it does mean I'm unlikely to end up "caulking the seams" as it were.
I think weβre right on the precipice of really dark times and people who can use ai to get results will be the last to feel the worst of the pain
I do think we're on the edge of dark times. What gets us through, we'll see.
Spanish ai inquisition
Honestly what I'm most concerned about right now isn't AI related. Not directly anyway. It's this fucking idiotic push Meta has done for OS-level age authentication via ID tracking.
Iβm saying weβre already walking the plank but ai will allow (some of) us to not fall in (yet)
By the way, if you didn't hear, the dark money was traced back to Meta on that. Who'd have guessed.
Theyβre gonna vote in whatever they want without the general population being okay with it
They want to lock down OSes to approved boxes only, then Google floated a proposal for how the Internet can function only supplying data to computers verified as trusted. I take issue with that, to say the least.
(please don't ask me to find the source on that, the Google proposal is older and I'm lazy)
i'd bet palantir wants it too
so all the shittiest people in the world
Yep
... huh weird how they also love pushing ai slop too. /s
But yeah, we're going to see a push soon to get rid of user-controlled computers. I hope to hell the world responds the only way I believe is reasonable.
Namely, with a middle finger.
(or two fingers if you're a Brit, or... Y'know, just fill in for your country)
im using system-add storage, and chose nfs, do you know does haos do nfs4.2?

did home assistant add dashboard hot reload recently? just noticed as i was editing my dashboard that like, my tablet just refreshed with the new layout without showing the usual refresh popup
which, is pretty cool
thx jorg
is there a faster way to bulk add devices and entities to my voice assistant?
That sounds like a terrible idea. However start a thread in #1284966915055288530 to discuss.
Tbh coding is the one thing I don't use llms for lul
I have lsp which is fancy enough
Youβre doing life wrong
My coworkers are drafting mails using LLM and I hate every single byte of it
I am guilty of this. Not so much writing the email but checking for tone.. I am a blunt person and sometimes that isn't the best idea
that's why I like working from the office
I can tell people to screw off without a paper trail
(I don't actually)
Serious question: has anyone elses google rcs messages from yesterday just gone without a trace, but all others are ok?
Less serious question: how can I get my new IPV8 devices talking to home assistant
We still haven't used 6
It's an issue for me when I am not even trying to be a dick. I am generally trying to be helpful and nice but still end up being blunt
I am skipping 6 and going to 8
Text is a very difficult format to convey "not being a dick"
I am sure the problem is not you @warm helm
An IPv8 address is a 64-bit value:
r.r.r.r.n.n.n.nr.r.r.r -- 32-bit ASN Routing Prefix
n.n.n.n -- 32-bit Host Address (identical semantics to IPv4)IPv8 address with
r.r.r.r=0.0.0.0= IPv4 address
Processed by standard IPv4 rules
No modification to IPv4 device required
No modification to IPv4 application required
No modification to IPv4 internal network required
why the fuck couldn't they have just done this for ipv6
this is so much better
There is no way they will use it then
Can't make anything better /s
Keep in mind that the above was published in a place with a pretty low barrier to entry by a single person. This is not to say that it is bad but to keep in mind that it may have no real support from anyone.
Oh yeah, it is probably just an ai generated text
The fact that its called IPv8 is where the problems start...
wait wtf lmao:
Every manageable element in an IPv8 network is authorised via OAuth2 JWT tokens served from a local cache
okay this has to be late april fools or something lol
I started writing to the llm with what I want to say to the customer (but canβt because lol) and let it reword it nicer. Itβs cathartic
Ok but the public keys are stored in the blockchain right
hey that just made me think of another shitty emoji to make
I aim to please
Sometimes others it's intended
for some weird reason my fridge/freezer combo has an alarm for when the fridge isn't fully closed but none for the freezer door...
seriously considering a smart thermometer under the freezer door and an alarm in HA...
What a weird cost saving mechanism?
yea, it's not even a cheap device. Really no idea why they don't have it on both doors
Does the freezer have a light? Or a another reason to have a switch?
Nope
Refrigerators usually have a reason to know that the door is open, while freezers often don't
But i'ts not the price class where the 10ct for the switch will matter
I guess it'd be a bit harder to fit with the drawers
I'm trying vertical tabs for the first time. I don't hate it.
More difficult than you think if it is frost free
Mine goes down to -27C (set at 18), and up to -12 to defrost
Pain in the arse to make a proper alarm
that seems pretty high. I was just looking at mine and it peaks at 6-8F when set at 0F
That is the freezer
I just accept that if it goes through the high end for a while, I get an alarm
And no freedom units
right, I'm talking about the freezer
oh, not inside. On the floor in front
if the diff between that and the main room temperature is too large it's obviously "leaking cold"
When the floor is as cold as the freezer you have a problem!
most expensive air conditioning ever
Just an example
It will work back up to -20 ish now over a day or so
It is a bosch frost free one with a light
Gonna put one of those sonoff external wire sensors on it, currently have one freezing its arse off in there, with batteries outside
Enough of my off topic chat
Raccoons!
hey people! i have a question. i got a spare, 8gb ram, rpi4b lying around and it makes me sad. It used to run HA but then i bought a mini pc and moved it to that.
SO
what cool things could i make, ideally that integrate with HA but not necessarily, with the little beast? I don't really want to have to buy anything else hardware wise, its just the computer + case + power cable that i have (plus sd card but yk) and i think itd be fun to make it do something cool. Any ideas?
-# edit: itd be even better if its something that like needs the pi specifically / a separate computer at least cause otherwise it feels silly having two devices plugged in when i could just do it on the more powerful machine ._.
I AM A MAN WITH A MATTER DEVICE ON MY NETWORK
HELLO MAN WITH A MATTER DEVICE ON YOUR NETWORK
Bro I spent so many hours figuring out what was wrong
Turns out ipv6 forwarding was fkin off in HA
And that was the whole thing keeping it from working
The trashiest of pandas in the best possible way
Good luck keeping it on your network
A pallet of smaller 440W panels or larger 505W panels.... hmmm
I am going to swap all my stolen doormats for some solar panels
Thinking larger ones
With so little sunlight up north for half the year, nobody notice the difference
I need to start doing serious research into solar.
no one ever said "i have too much solar capacity installed" just saying
that's true. i was capped at 120% yearly consumption
but now that they're on i can make things more efficient π
Probably depends on local grid conditions, The limits are not really the amount that you have but more a limit on how much you can export. Maintaining grid load and stability is important for everyone.
I am going to charge batteries, and hopefully warm my water tank, and not export anything
And import from the grid when needed
They took away the tax reduction you can get when exporting now, no point
I heat with pellets in the winter so I have no need for hundreds of kW a day
Raccoon pellets
I would like to grab a heatpump to heat water (undersized for the house) and use pellets when it is actually cold. If we get 2 weeks of -20C weather like this year, it isn't economical to heat with heatpump (cheaper with pellets)
Compressed Sonomas actually
As much as he wishes it was compressed raccoons
We actually have a pellet place close enough to drive out pellets to me with his tractor haha very convenient
well, I'm sold
Pretty much the same here
Vattenfall can shove a big plug up its rear socket
Also I think I can save a massive amount of paperwork by not exporting
They keep changing the rules for new solar to make it less and less attractive to export or to use the grid at peak times. It's just encouraging you to make your own power, and then pay them for their infrastructure that you're not using
I made money the first year I had solar. Never since
here you continue to use their infrastructure
it's dumb
So we are going to go with the 505W ones I think
He would reply to you, but he just turned the main breaker off
I'm still using the 250W ones I got a little over 10 years ago
No point replacing to be fair
Well
I did actually see this project in Yemen, people on pcmr on reddit have sent them stuff
Wouldbe cool to recycle stuff to them, as it were
I am hoping the panels last as long as their warranty anyway
Going ground mounts I think
Not got it all 100% sorted yet, but I need to do something
I am going to go with Victron and I hope that gets me something high quality
Why would it be a problem
So you can be assured it doesn't
What, are you saying someone would just go on the internet and lie? Nonsense
Never
hey, $15 is $15
Went with the big boys, will see how bad it is when they turn up
will have to get my whole crew to lift the pallet
Asking for a friend, how many raccoons do you need to lift 1200kg?
Actually, problem sorted, going to airlift it
African or European raccoon?
Yes
This is really funny, cause the Racoons are purely North-Americans π π€£
(I do get the Monty python reference)
I should get food
did you succeed

It's fairly easy and inexpensive to build a chamber heater for the P1S. I built one for my X1C and integrated it with Home Assistant to use the Bambu integration for setting the temperature based on filament type. It works really well and helps with warping. I open sourced the code for it. https://github.com/kedube/bambu-chamber-heater
Huh. Just looked a little into solar and now I'm more intrigued.
Mind you, I'm 100% in the "would already have solar if I didn't have to pay so much for it" boat.
But it looks like it's relatively simple to set up a small-scale system and scale up as finances allow, which changes the entire game.
ah yes, someone vibe coding something that has to do with using a heater.
always fun to watch.
Definitely won't melt anything in the printer at all. π
but it is very fun to see people always going to the "just add more heat" instead of hitting the obvious thing first. π
Hint: #3d-printing message
It's not quite that simple unless you're doing full DIY. Most companies won't add panels to an existing system and the inverter is sized for your existing system
yeah.. or you get a bigger inverter size.. i'm trying to handle a warehouse'st hing right now.. and including a battery..
50kw or so system.
inverter the guy found.. will technically work.
Do we want to pay that company fucking 68,000$ for a 100kwh battery? fuck no.
But I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to DIY one because.. well who knows what goddamn BMS it speaks. π
I wish I could double the number of panels, but they want to just replace everything
well yeah.
Whatever makes them the most money
if I had property with a large enough ground space I'd go "yeah fuck it lets have 3-4x the size of my house amount of ground panels lets fucking ball."
Point is that isn't not really like a set of Lego blocks, but it's treated as a complete system
somewhat.. a lot of it can be swapped around
but usually you do have to do things like have the PV input strings balanced somewhat
or it'll use the lowest voltage or something on most inverters and etc.
I wish home meter cabinets had a shutdown on the outside.
so it'd be easier to do it yourself... π
but I suppose there are a lot of incompetent morons who like to do shit in such bafflingly unsafe ways thats how we get here.
sometimes I like to look at this guys house videos again
just because its lovely to lookk at... π
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgYMrySNl2Q
Absolute madman.
This is the long boring version of how I wired my house. I tried to add extra memes to keep you awake hopefully, I was successful. οΏΌAlso that bonding jumper was 1/0 not #3 I know someone will comment lol
That's some industrial house
its a house with its electrical work being done by an industrial/PLC guy
generator transfer switch?
nah
buy his own components and build eaach part individually.
π€£
its unhinged.
But in a good way
well thats a first
my home assistant kernal paniced for the first time in like 8 years lmao
Doing full DIY, using micro inverters. One per panel. String inverter isn't viable for this house anyway, we have a bunch of different size runs that'd be used.
This is a shitty north-aligned overhead view. If you can make sense of it, you'll notice there are a -lot- of different length roof sections facing east, west, and south.
So basically I pay a bit more per panel, but the micro inverters apparently generally have better longevity than string inverters, so I make that cost up over time, and as a bonus I get per-panel diagnostics and can literally expand one panel at a time.
Would you have any issues with shading (big trees that block a section of the roof at a time, or anything like that?). Apparently another thing microinverters are good for, stops one under-performing panel affecting the entire string
... strings can still work the wiring may just get a little annoying.
Maybe from the swamp coolers or in the evening from the hill behind the house (momentarily before the sun is gone entirely). Nothing too significant though.
That's getting into "but why" territory. You generally want strings to share exposure approximately. Trying to beat a square peg into a round hole and losing advantages in the process seems... Well, dumb.
Why would I go for a system I have to set up all at once when I can't justify that cost at this time anyway, only to have to make a larger mess, probably pay an electrician instead of doing it DIY, and lose long-term advantages in the process anyway?
damn stupid housees with not-flat roofs tho man.
Lol, fair
My parents designed this one and had it built, solar just wasn't as much of a consideration in the 90s.
oh I'm aware
same thing here.. living at home.. solar is.. its up there but
dumbly
stupid fucking mostly pointless eaves
Though a true flat roof wouldn't be viable. We're in a snow region.
I mean, I guess some buildings manage it, but it's not cheap to build to that standard. Snow gets heavy.
I mean.. a sloped or standard simple eave
Yeah
rather than a bunch of dumb bullshit that juts out
then again you're also dealing with the 90s era house of
"lmao whats insulation?"
"lmao whats air sealing?"
Ugh... Yeah. But not for the reason you think.
Parents paid for it. Contractor fucked us.
i mean same stuff here.
but the house outer walls are still 2x4 framed bullshit thin nonsense..
π
Oh, yeah, not that bad here. We at least have fiberglass insulation and stucco and such.
walking around the house in the winter with thermal cameras is "fun"
ah yes stucco
the "build it like cheap garbage, make it look even at least."
got popcorn ceiling shit too? π€£
pretty sure most of ours when the house was built up was done sheetrock with..
that pink cheap garbage insulation
Just sprayed with the typical wall coating stuff that gives it a ripply effect.
Fiberglass
which as my aunt who recently had their home redone recently
discovered
that shit
does not fucking stay where it should over years
I think ours is yellow, no idea what the difference is.
the proper solution these days is of course..
... rockwool
thick shit that barely compresses when you're bought it
and doesn't have to come back into shape or any bullshit like that
I don't know if that would hold up to earthquake code here.
That's a lot of weight.
not really that much.
And that sounds like
"stop building houses in cheap garbage ways"
to me. π
I don't know earthquake code myself. I just know it matters for everything here.
Wonder why
(old screenshot)
I doubt that insulation weight would matter in the slightest unless you're literally using cement..
But at that case its probably handling it fine
Rockwool may not be what I'm thinking of then. The shit I'm thinking of is near as heavy as sheetrock.
yeah rockwool isn't that heavy its just like..
its rock based cotton candy as insulation basically?
π€£
Lol
good shit; usually doubles for sound dampening as well.
I probably have some at work and don't even realize it.
but yeah this house was built up out of the 90s going into the 2000's
and fucking christ
the corners cut
drive me insane now as an adult
house can barely maintain a temperature in the NY winters these days
because poor insulation/shit passive hydronic baseboards
Yeah, we need to do work on this one. Though it sounds better off than yours.
my family is..
... boomers through and through
heat pump or improving efficiency?
nah.
buying a stupid fucking electric awning or more stupid fucking deck furniture that is used maybe twice a year?
yep!
My parents are 80, but they have PhDs. They know what counts.
they love to buy shit; have it be garbag then bug me to fix it somehow
Not to say they don't have their quirks, but if you hit 80 without quirks, the fuck did you do with your life?
or I'll fix something like.. the tub that strarted to wear/rust a bit at the drain area with an epoxy coating.
after which they'll proceed to clean it with bleach repeatedly after being told not to do it.
which of course..
Ugh
destroys the fucking coating
Yeah
anjd my father has a.. 5500 gallon pond
its his pond
unless there's problems.
then its my pond.
can't even reset a popped GFCI.
My mother is a PhD of material engineering. Wrote the first research paper on Kevlar. She'd kill someone who bleached epoxy after being told not to.
my mothers also the type to
"paint"
and never removes any wall plates or anything
I had to remove a small tv mount on the wall in that room once..
it was fucking glued to the wall with paint after I removed the bolts.
Yeaaaaaaah, I had to help a friend deal with that once.
actually have to remove the second failed epoxy from the tub now.
as she said she knows someone who got some paint product thing for it and she's gonn a do it
.... and no doubt will also kill that too
I was half tempted to get cerakote on the tub
since as far as I know... its immune to basically everything when dried.
but would also require a lot more suirface prep and other work so.. whatever fuck it; let the tub rot out I don't care anymore. π€·ββοΈ
I'm glad I have the parents I do. Slowly losing my dad to Parkinson's, just attention span, cognitive decline, reasoning, you know. But I've had a long time with them, and they're good people. Most people I know don't get that.
they're mostly good on that
except for my
"hmm I wonder if I can specifically block fox news."
because I am getting real tired of hearing state propaganda every fucking evening.
dads a retired cop.
full pigbrain.
has absolutely zero fucking cognitive abilities it seems.
Yeah, I don't have that problem.
Not going to say more since y'know, rules and all. But suffice to say I'm proud of where my parents align.
very tempted to..
do smarthome shit
when I step downstairs the tvs speakers get muted
and so.. my battery assembly holder is printing
so I can start building the lifepo4 cell packs for my DC ups..
still haven't quite decided if I want to.. use 3d printed end-caps for them or just get sendcutsend or something to give me some laser-cut metal plates.
since the cells apparently prefer to be clamped under some amount of pressure..
Hmm
simplified example of a commercial pack I disassembled recently for something (the 4 cells aren't differentiated here but the gist is there..)
The battery part of the solar setup was where I was iffy about DIY, but if I go that route, it will be LiFePO4.
big battery go brrrrrrrrr
This is an insane deal! Just $33/kWh with an outdoor enclosure. These batteries come with a full metal enclosure which measures 30" tall, 56" wide, and 28" deep. They are made with 189x CATL 3.2v 173ah Lifepo4 cells. These can be painted on, but most are either green or blue.Β These will ship on a pallet and the weight
π€£
Lol
Make sure you are comfortable and have experience working with large batteries like this. Each of the 3 modules is around 202v and the total voltage between all 3 is around 605v.
spicy boy pack
Yeaaaaaah
so would probably have to be.. modified to be less insane for home gamer use π
hard no.
somewhat hazardous.. yes
would it be "certified" not technically but also like
just look at that things construction. π€£
yeah well.. doing something maybe for a warehouse
just need to figure if its doable to..
make that thing speak to a hybrid inverter
because the inverter brand also sells some modular batteries
except their 114kwh battery is uh
68,000$ or so?
Ow
meanwhile thats 3450$
That number hurts my soul
will require some effort.. if its even possible
trying to figure it out; isn't too straightforward since its a HV inverter
so not 48v.
ahaha
looking at the images and I see a brand name
https://www.reddit.com/r/Hyliion/comments/179p5eb/two_years_later/
its from some failed EV truck attempt thing.
Last year's thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Hyliion/comments/y7r29r/one_year_later/ Original threadβ¦
π€£
Hmm... I wonder if I could set up an ESP32 as a battery monitor (or preferably 2-4 batteries) and make a modular battery setup for the solar storage. Then I could monitor individual battery health in an expandable system.
I mean.. yes?
I assumed yes
building DIY packs as long as you have BMS's that speak the inverter's langauge is fairly easy
that pack I pulled open recently is to convert a smaller hybrid inverter to replace an old server backlup power supply
because it didnt like them
so.. mfr makes two different battery lines it seems.. one for individual protected batteries for drop in stuff
and other is one that works with the inverter.
we already have 4x of this kind.. so I'm just stripping out the batteries and re-wiring them with a compatible BMS from aliexpress.. π€£
which from what I can tell
... is the same BMS that this inverter uses for their "Professional" line that is compatible
the panel punchouts on their rack batteries match the bms exactly
Never messed with battery DIY much. It was always the taboo. But in this case it makes sense, and LiFePO4 keeps it relatively safe, compared to the chemistries I was looking at previously.
well, yeah.
and also if you just.. take basic precautions
its not bad
my server backup for my house will be using.. 48x of these. https://batteryhookup.com/collections/lifepo4-cells/products/used-3-2v-20ah-64wh-lifepo4-prismatic-cells (5$ each lmao)
Specifications Β - Chemistry: LiFePO4 - Nominal Voltage: 3.2V - Amp Hours: 20Ah - Capacity: 64Wh - Charge: 0.5β1C (10β20A) recommended - Discharge: 1C continuous (20A), with short bursts possibly higher These are used prismatic LiFePO4 cells with good voltage. Cells are sold individually and are suitable for energy stor
not big; but theyll do
and more importantly
they have goddamn m6 terminals
some of the batteries would be nice to have... but seem to want you to have your own stud welder/laser welder
Yeah, most seem to.
That actually might be a decent starting point for the solar setup.
and from what I'd be able to find.. an xtool metalfab is.. not actually much more than a proper stud welder. π€£
plus yknow
Lol
plus
"A grinder and paint makes me the welder I ain't."
...
"nah I just have this laser thing. it works."
Anyone using this?
nice!
yes made the dutch translation for this one. Nice card.
goeie
Hey, does someone here have experience with planing pcb boards? I have created my first board with easy eda and would like someone with more experience to double-check it.
#the-workshop might be able to help.
I ended up with eco worthy batteries, widely liked by pedantic youtube people
100Ah 51.2V ones
Good price here too
You are not supposed to open them because they are full off
ones
the one I took apart for a small inverter are actually ecoworthy 280ah ones..
their price being good is why them instead of the official batteries for the inverter.. easier and cheaper to just swap the bms out of 4 of them for 1x to make it 48v instead of 4 12v ones.

Probably going to grab 3 more, perhaps 2 cubix and a cubix pro
I like the idea of the screen, but they are not available in the EU yet
Also thinking once I work out how balancing works (how long it takes at what voltage) I won't really need the screen
They are great value
the cubix are just the other cells with
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805826229966.html?
This BMS inside
I believe they are the same as the ones I have now, 100Ah V3
not quite
different bms
if you look at that picture..
you may notice a conspicuously similar layout of those dip switches/serial ports..
π
Did anything actually interesting appear
"framework 13 pro" was the big thing. bunch of new stuff on that platform including big boy battery life up to 20+ hours
Also they are selling a non-shit wireless keyboard with touch pad (living room keyboard) which runs opensource firmware and they are selling the control board seperatly so if you want to build a keyboard (or related input device I guess) you can use this as your base.
Oh, Also oculink stuff for the 16 was pretty big if your into that sort of thing.
I just saw that the desktop unit now has soldered memory
13-pro is being marketed as a competator to a macbook pro for dev work etc...
Sounds fairly boring tbh
Yeah, it always has been for the desktop, They covered why in last years announcement. its just about memory bus speed.
Seems like the wrong train for something that's supposed to be repairable and upgradeable
I tend to agree in concept but I do understand why it ended up going that way. Although there is room to bring it back to modular in the future potentially.
It makes sense just not for that brand
Similar with how they now seem to use lpcam2 modules
At least it is modular.
A very low entry bar
RAM tech is going through a bit of a thing at the moment. the traditional memory form factor just adds too much latency for what people are demanding of systems.
The timing makes no sense for availability being low and people not having that disposable money
Because all that old stuff goes into ewaste
Memory interface change has just become absolutely necessary. with factories retooling and stuff anyway it probably makes it a good time to make changes.
You can't even properly upgrade it to anything because it only has a single slot if I see this right in imagery
quite disappointing
Yeah, Two slots would have been nice but they take quite a lot of board space and I don't know enough about the specifics of the memory bus to examine the practicality of 2.
Currently that leaves people with the choice of buying what they need now for a fairly huge upcharge
Or to pay twice later
Assuming lpcamm2 becomes the new widespread standard then reselling/reusing old stuff on upgrade is gunna be a thing quick enough.
Everything memory related is just going to be expensive for a while. There is not much that can be done.
I was hoping for some kind up update on the 12 though. I am considering getting one as my "shit i need to do something not at my desk" machine. Its not super common that I need it but my current laptop i use for this is very much ageing.
I need help please , when Iβm logged into as a user in kiosk mode , Iβm logged in through the cloud , when I press the refresh button it logs me out every time ?
So the story goes anyway, it's needing 2 slots that stopped the strix halo platform having lpcamm2. It uses 256-bit RAM and they're 128 each, so 2 is a requirement (where on other platforms one module is covering "2 channels"). But timings/stability intervened, apparently. Guess it was just a bit early in the piece
Clearly it's being worked on though, Nvidia's latest rack-scale AI things are using 8 of them per CPU. I think AMD have something similar in the works.
I would note the upcoming thing I'm most excited for is Zen6 Epyc with 16x MR-DIMM @ 12800MT/s. Something like 1.6TB/s of memory bandwidth per socket.
update, OP?
Here we see the wild decoy654 in search of food
always
insulate your printer.
they are enclosed
enclosed; is not insulated
filament dryers they sell are enclosed; but not insulated.
This is what one that is insulated looks like and it makes a hilarious difference
and?
Why the inside one is higher than the garage one while it is raining is beyond me
they make cheap single-pane containers to be cheap and easy to mfr
but that is not what is ideal for insulating
uninsulated front ACM panels.vs top (slightly poorly insulated I'll fix it eventually..) and side panel that is better insulated..
I am still debating which large one to get. I am kinda leaning to the neptune because they are cheap on marketplace
I also would like a Rockit scanner though
as with evcry 3d printer..
the suspiciously cheaper it is on marketplace
almost always correlates to buying someone else's problems
I know they will be a problem. All 3d printers are a problem of some sort
I mean.. maybe yours sir.. π
The P1S was throwing a fit the other night because the fan caught a stray
my vorons a well behaved (enough) child..
I mean my bambu's have been 0 issue compared to my chiron but so has my ender
just first layer bs
Washing them with dawn also worked
I don't use dawn when I do a clean I use degreaser in a spray bottle.. cba to go to a sink
https://zep.com/collections/zep-fast-505-degreaser-cleaner
this stuff.. plastic safe and etc etc
I did get a frostbite plate and I haven't had an issue since. Just need to get one for the X2d
yeah i murdered one of my plates by being a bit too hasty.
using that solution.. and flexing the plate while hot
equals.. the adhesive holding the PEI sheet down giving it up. π
tfw the adhesive solution is stronger than the bed adhesion
I have yet to print anything wish supports on it π
I mean thats just well designed parts.
Pretty much and the fact that I don't print trinkets
I swear to god this just happened
love that part
too bad Lucas ruined it
changing it to a song-and-dance routine with late 90s-looking CG characters
kudos for licensing the "bicycle" song from Queen but it really didn't age well
The stray children? Don't they mind?
Anyone else see the new frame.work touchscreen and think, "oh that would be great on the wall panel?

except that one has ** a little bit more** energy.
I guess I like that it's safer than a regular spinning top, but how do you get it going?
some sort of electric base that you stick it in to engage with the top part?
hmm should i configure my already very stressed out raspberry pi to act as a wifi-ethernet bridge for an ip camera i have no idea what to do with
cause i am NOT running ethernet all the way to where that is
I would not stay that close to it π¬
funny enough, its cpu is fine, its the wifi/bt/usb stuff that is stressed out, cause its operating LVA and a bluetooth proxy over wifi
A while back I was behind a car that had the outer tread come off a tire and keep going at 60 mph. Had to balance staying away from the spinny death and the idiot that kept driving on the damn rim for a few miles
might as well just use powerline ethernet or if you have a Unifi setup, the Unifi Device Bridge
my mom upgraded her house's cameras, and so i just have 6 of these very nice ip cameras sitting around. cant sell them, hikvision is banned from selling cameras in the US. so i dont even know what to do with them
look on the bright side it could be worse..
the only "unifi" i have is the fact i am at university
I think you're the only one trying to make powerline Ethernet a thing :).
powerline ethernet would expose my traffic to every mf in this apartment
well i mean my unit does have its own breaker box but i dont think that isolates it
there's usually a way to encrypt the communication between the adapters
there's a damn coax cable right where i would want this ethernet but its just coax and nothing else
MoCA adapter
Fly cutter?? Thatβs practically a lawnmower
what i was about to say
this is a solved problem because everyone else looked at their houses from the 70s and 80s with coaxial and went.... id rather just reuse it XD
yeah, that's better than powerline ethernet by a mile
like i cant run anything there
its a solid solution imo
idk
i like knowing when people enter my apt ig cause the uni people do that sometimes
i cant say much, i have three cameras pointed at my desk for connecting into frigate and being a workbench assistant XD
but also like i have an existing camera its just shit
and i have these nice ones
sometimes just because its fun XD
im tempted to plug in the ip camera just to point at this old temperature sensor i have cause wtf else am i supposed to do with it
use a pi pico or esp with a dht22
skill issue. π
LIKE I COULD RUN A ETHERNET CABLE ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE APARTMENT, IT'D JUST BE THE WORST THING EVER
no the worst thing ever is having people entering your apartment without your permission/notice..
You could deploy a wireless wire if it doesn't need poe
I did that for a POTS phone line when I lived in on-campus housing. Around door frames and such
it doesnt need poe, it just doesnt have wifi, its just an ethernet port
well so you can throw together an esp32 with esphome with a dht22 and get humidty and temp from your house in a readout instead of trying to read a video feed over ip of a thermometer
the abstraction is painful
that was back when I shared space with dinosaurs
cause the camera i have works but its motion detection is complete garbage
i was more saying its a bad solution as you can solve it more reliably for $5
thats why we offload that to frigate.
well right i mean
my idea is very stupid
i just
wtf else do i do with these cameras
like thei ssue with the camera is you have no way to use that data for anything
But if you solve it for cheap you don't spend money on it :'c that's half the fun
i legally cannot sell them
i just need to buy one of those $20 wifi connected thermometers/hydrometers
what
reselling cameras.
literally nobody would care
ebay has repeatedly gotten in trouble for selling fucking drug materials and etc.
you just sell it as a generic ip camera
don't even state the brand; and nobody will caare.
the issue with the camera is you have no reliable way to use that data for anything other than not having to get up and go look. you cant use it for automations or track the trends because its stuck on a cheap webcam that will be a nightmare to do image analysis to pull then umbers out reliably
anyone who is gonna use chinese IP cameras sensibly will throw them on a VLAN anyways
and then.. its irrelevant if they're backdoored or not
is it? i dont think you are thining of the mental cost and the amount of work you have to do to instead offset the fact you spent nothing. in effort and work you will def spend more
i wasnt even planning on doing image recognition
well if the only thing you want to do is not have to get up, go for it honestly lol
but if you want to use it anywhere else for data or tracking its a bad solution
mostly wanted to check on my bedrooms temp remotely
still say a dht22 would be way better just because then you get actual data out of it, but thats because im a data w*o$e
then use a sensor that actually makes sense for it.
yeah i mean i should get one of those pre-packaged wifi/smart thermostat things
shelly. go buy a shelly thing. π€·ββοΈ
fair, if it gets the data and is in a format you are okay with go for it. i just have fun building stuff from scratch
though the esp solution allows for easy expansion over the gpio if you later want to add even more snesors
you just by the sensors and wire em up
this is not the worlds first webcam.
The Trojan Room coffee pot was a coffee machine located in the Computer Laboratory of the University of Cambridge, England. It was the subject of the world's first webcam, created by Quentin Stafford-Fraser and Paul Jardetzky in 1991.
To save people working in the building the disappointment of finding the coffee machine empty after making the t...
if you want to laugh im in the process of modding a coffee maker to run esphome to add my coffee maker into HA XD
trust me, i do too, i just am not as good with hardware
and if im buying shit, i might as well take the easy route
its all about scope and preference tbh
i personally get more value to me out of doing it myself, but thats because my preferences are different
both are valid solutions
i just get so much dopamine out of doing it myself XD
lol i get that
do you have to pay extra for equipment that comes with dopamine?
i mean so much of my HA stuff has been extremely diy, but moreso on the software end
nah, i get mine on discount from espressif XD
... I'm getting the feeling that DIY stuff is gonna suffer in the future from a lack of "I asked the AI to do it for me" ability to work in physical reality.
it just comes in the package, its crazy
i get that, i have been working with HGA to add new features to it
always something you can add or improve in your HA pipeline lol
I just made a very surprising discovery. The ThirdReality multisensor nightlight thing fits in our electrical outlet on our back patio lol
I have a use case for an outdoor light sensor, so this just might fit the bill
want to hear something funny..... the same thing was said about books way back when.... Socrates actually claimed the exact same thing about books. its about it being a tool and used properly, its just fancy pattern matching. We just need to stop using it for stupid things.
yeah, you're not gonna get support from me on the mass content stealing technology. π
that counts as stupid things....
And yet.
it remains the literal core of the technology.
well, then you should do some research into overal ML. ai is a blanket term, there are many more cases where it does make sense.
finally bought the smart curtain things ive been wanting for ages
it is litterally just pattern matching and prediction
We are ai lovers in this household
doesnt make sense in my current apartment, but my new apartment has a 13' window opening, so these will be sick
I use ML.
Frigate's good.
Slop is slop.
slop and ML are different things.
i dont disagree, i disagree with your choice of blanket terms
neither is any sort of actual intelligence.
oh interesting i should try that
llm and image models, sure, however the core of the technology is not theft, that is just what we have decided to use it for for some dumb reason. the exact same process and tools can also be used on properly sourced data.... like mri scans, documentation collections for enterprise systems that are obnixously expansive. There are places you can do this wihtout it being theft, that is the whole point i was trying to make. steel is not inherntly bad, but we can make some pretty dangerous and hateful things with it. you are conflating a technology with human greed
the literal core of llm and image models is theft of content
and all this newer shit is being based more off slop and pitching slop to people rather than just using ML
because ML has existed for fucking ever
did you read the first sentence i said?
but isn't a good enough buzz word to jerk the economy off.
the CORE of the technology is pattern recognition and prediction..... llms and image models are just an application of that (a bad one albiet)
except llms are slop.
do they give you a statistical output on what they produce is equal to what you asked? no.
however llm !== ai
ML is statistical and mostly predictable
they are not the same thing
and yet; the term AI is mostly co-opted by grifter fuckwits
one is a subsection of the other thing
humans are mammels.... but not all mammels are humans
and not all ceos are humans, yes.
some have replaced the emotional stuff with the grifter phenotype.
also i want to point to the roots of the words in AI, the etymological breakdown of the word is ars/artis in latin meaning art/skill/craft referring to the human ability create or manipulate something. the other half is facere also latin meaing to make or do, it refers to the construction or production. it leitterally breaks down into a "fake, or handi craft of humans trying to imitate the thing or idea" it does not mean what is "artifical" is a 1:1 it is not actually inteligent. it is the artifical of inteligence. its "faked human made thing to emulate inteligence" it does not mean it is inteligent
when you are trying to argue something these semantics do matter, as this is a broad field that has many applicatyions that are not llm's and image generators
aah yes because latin bullshit and etymological stuff matters when billions of dollars ahve gone into using a word for grift.
and again.
I don't consider ML models as ai or slop.
not in the commonly used grift definition they aren't.
otherwise frigate would be a commercial product worth a few billion right now.
π
are either of us in this conversation in that category?
no
so it does matter here
because in this discussion we are being accurate, we are people who actually do know better
i'm really not going to continue with your 'um acksually' here.
then dont, but also stop sitting in here harassing anything everyone says. we are just here trying to have a discussion
you do you; have fun. π
Cracked the tile on the wall while hand screwing this belt winder in
Oh well, only an issue if landlord should notice
Uhh I have a question, did anybody here do electrics in a wet room yet?
if there's one thing a parasite can notice is a chance to get money..
define "Electrics in a wet room"
DC? AC?
And since I am not into surprise arc welding while showering
... feels like you didn't need to put that there tbh
Contact a proper electrician.
especially given you cracked a tile.
Too expepsi
Less deadly.
if you have to be here asking questions about this.
you probably should not have done it to start with
well here is thing thing... diy is free sure... or cheaper, but it could instead be the cost of your life
you are talking about 230, that is not a toy, it CAN kill you
esp as.. you damaged a tile and how are you going to be powering that if it wants any sort of hardwiring without leaving more damage or signs for landlord?
Meh it will be fine
Thing I'm wondering is if the junction box on the very top is live
ah yes, a damaged tile in a wet place
the fact you have to ask that question means
