blazing parcel
# cloud osprey That's neat! Idk how that solves my problem of determining brightness of the roo...

it actually does because of one super power. the chunks it can semantically add in based on your conversation or request can actual contain this exact info in a self hydrating jinja2 template. so in the injection you could put a jinja chunk that pulls the entity status and brifely tells exactly what it is so it already knows the state before it even starts to generate. you attach a sematic tag to it like "light brightness" and it can do all of it dynamically for you. so yeah, it 100% solves this, it allows you to add a custom instruction and set of data into the prompt dynamically only when its actually needed to understand brightness making for a laser focused prompt assembly

cloud osprey
#

I think you're missing the point lol. I don't have anything that reliably tells me the brightness of a room I'm in. So what am I feeding it?

blazing parcel
#

like my office has several cameras tied into frigate so i have a custom assembly asking about my office and it uses vision analysis to tell the light levels or anything else i want of that room

static schooner
#

AI won't stop until it takes all the jobs

blazing parcel
#

basically, but in a way no one does.... slimming and only giving it exactly what it needs when it needs it instead of 10k prompt that eats itself

#

like you write a logic chunk that is tagged with specific semantics, its only like lets say 4 lines but gives a jinja template with filtering and data discovery and basic instruction and you dynamically and semantically attache the pieces as you need.

#

with it being multi tier eace piece is much more lean and you can use massively smaller prompts and sometimes elminate a whole tool running turn

#

difference in an 8b model on a p40 responding in 60s vs 5s and actually giving something useful

dusty mica

Happy with nabu, it does what i ask in a second.

They said mouser donates esp32 and components but I don’t have a list to pick from yet

#

It’s all still up in the air

static schooner
#

and here I figured that you'd use Apollo ESPHome Starter Kits

cloud osprey
#

@lone dagger I have no idea where that would be on topic so I'll go with the catch-all for talking to other smart home enthusiasts. I also have your exact example in my house - a door sensor on my mudroom door. But a door sensor just tells you that the door opened, not which way people are going.

My mudroom door opens into my garage. How do I know whether they're in the mudroom going to the garage or in the garage going to the mudroom?

#

For me, I make no attempt to figure that out. A door being opened tells me there's a human there. So I treat it as presence in both of those rooms and have it reset whatever occupancy timeout that room has for when it decides there's no one there anymore and the lights should go off

lone dagger
#

Garage exit exits into the garage, House entrance goes into the house.

#

We have a 10 second wait before the light goes out because of the way we move through that room.

cloud osprey
#

do both of those turn on the lights in the mudroom only?

#

wouldn't garage exit want to turn on the lights in the garage when people are going from mudroom to garage and lights in the mudroom when they're going from garage to mudroom?

#

or perhaps I'm not understanding the layout lol

#

also 10s is so short lol. We do not move as fast as you through the mudroom clearly

#

the 3 year old has a very wandering route for such a small room 😆

lone dagger
#

So it turns on the mud room lights when we come from the garage. The 10s is only when both sensors are closed. It stays on otherwise.

# lone dagger Yeah that is a dilemma. The only way I can think of solving that is with a prese...

@hollow glacier Yea I mean I could put two sensors in sequence sure. It makes it more complicated though and I generally prefer to keep things simple. My solution is pretty simple I think and it seems to work well:

  1. The door being opened or closed means there's a human there. Create a binary sensor that turns on for either state transition and auto offs after maybe 30s or so. Trigger the lights and gets them to the next thing tracking their presence a motion sensor or something to keep them on in the room they're in
  2. The door exists in both the garage and the mudroom. So it triggers presence in both rooms. That won't really have any effect on the room they're in because the lights are already on, it just triggers whichever they're going to.

All this works fine. My whole point is just the door exists in both rooms so doesn't the thing tracking the state of the door also exist in both rooms? Assigning it to one seems rather arbitrary.

static schooner
cloud osprey
# lone dagger Now that I think on it more, though, having something on the garage door itself ...

Yea I just use tailwind for this. My presence/occupancy sensors for my garage are:

  1. Garage door was recently opened (not closed since that happens automatically and doesn't necessarily mean a human is there)
  2. Door to outside was recently opened or closed
  3. Door to mudroom was recently opened or closed
  4. Motion sensors detected movement

These have a variety of timeouts but garage is considered occupied if any of them is true

weak musk
#

tailwind is pretty good generally.

cloud osprey
#

Garage door also has the "device in two areas" problem. Since garage door recently opened is also an occupancy sensor for the driveway area, which turns on the floodlights at night

cloud osprey
#

The blinking and beeping before the door closes is kind of annoying but my kid likes it so I guess that's a win 😆

Yeah it’s made for Texas heat. We will see how it lasts in the summer. I don’t have a sprinkler system and generally do not water the grass in the summer. I just let it go dormant and it comes back when it’s not 100F+ outside

yeah so that's the result of me being used to having a separate management VLAN. Three graphics programmers have 25 minutes to livecode a visual effect. If you're impatient, just scrub through the first 5 or so minutes until stuff starts appearing on screen.

Shader Showdowns are a high-energy, graphically impressive visual livecoding event. Since its inception at WeCan in 2013, the Shader Showdown format has grown in popularity amongst different demoparties across the world and has been a regular event at Revision ever since.

Programmers face each other off, live on stage, coding GLSL shader effect...

I'm at the point where i'm debatting wiring the 22 ESP32s that I have in my house for my triliateration

It is curious how much more visually interesting the side facing us is

I got some decent shots with one of those cheap "smart" telescopes at the full moon a few nights ago

Ugly SweaterPlatward: Then there’s the unsettling part: every culture in history has been told to look up at it, track it, revere it. Calendars, rituals, myths, it’s always central. What if that’s not coincidence? What if the “flat moon” is exactly what it appears to be: a constructed object placed deliberately within view, something ancient, or not ancient at all, maintained by systems we mistake for nature. And every time someone gets too close to asking the right questions, they DISAPPEAR

I can only picture this movie.

Ever wonder what'd happen if the Moon crashed into the Earth? No? Well Roland Emmerich did. He's not content destroying just Earth anymore. He can't be stopped.

so their closest approach to the moon will still be 4066 miles or almost 1.5x the width of the US

#

I wish this was a clearer pic. It's at 2160p:

they mentioned the live pics are potato quality to save bandwidth. I kinda assumed they'd dump highres stuff later on.

peak slate
#

They will dump higher res when they have bandwidth for it all

#

Also all the photos the astronauts are taking on their actual cameras they have onboard

static schooner
#

I'd love to see a hi-res timelapse of this camera view

#

the interior video is plenty high quality

Sounds from that like aiming it is a right bastard, but that's fairly significant bandwidth

Some more stuff about the new laser, not much about the ground stations but some pictures of the spacecraft-side unit
https://www.nasa.gov/directorates/somd/space-communications-navigation-program/nasa-laser-communications-terminal-delivered-for-artemis-ii-moon-mission/

The laser communications system for NASA’s Artemis II mission arrived at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida for integration with the Orion spacecraft, which will carry astronauts around the Moon.

Long gone. I'm sure they'll show a much higher res version

I don't see it anywhere yet, but it was from the camera on the solar array and showed the side of the capsule, the moon in a crescent, and the earth in a crescent far beyond it

this was it:

"Everyone in this picture," NASA commentator Leah Cheshier Mustachio said. "Currently aboard Orion: four crew members, Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen. And on the Earth, all of us. All of humanity."

More artemis radio shenanigans: https://youtu.be/_0U7ljvHIhY

Several people have asked it I can hear the Artemis II mission to the moon with any of my satellite antennas and Software Defined Radio. I decided to give it a try! It took a lot of tries actually, but I can just about make out a signal from the vicinity of the moon!

Update on my failed JetKVM I mentioned a while back:
They shipped a replacement motherboard. that came with a screwdriver and a replacement screw set.
The actual replacing was fairly easy although the ribbon cable for the screen is pretty short and therefore a bit awkward.
Boots up connects to network (I haven't actually tested it with a system yet).
timeline:

8th march: emailed to report
heard back within 24 hours asking me to try some standard troubleshooting steps
11th march they agree its faulty and decide they are sending me a new motherboard and also get another email to confirm address for shipping
7th april: received the replacement motherboard kit

So about a month for a complete resolution of the issue. I am pretty happy with this outcome.

Credit where it is due.
