I just discovered a use for the 9 dollar 2k camera's from black friday, using them for my entryway so the stupid cats stop triggering false positives lol at 930 at night when I'm trying to watch a movie, disabling the motion sensor

My current best use of the camera is also cat related

Get to watch the boy smacking the robot vacuum like it owes him money

grizzled gull

Mine do, they cats just ignore it though as they grew up with them

They don't even move out of the way

ocean oar

It does, but also just the camera in the lounge

Even my skittish cat doesn't pay attention to the Roborock. It's weird

I need to figure out if I can automate copying the "obstacle" camera pictures from the vacuum, so I can have an ever-growing image gallery of the cat who's not yet figured out that if he just sits on a chair it can't reach him

Yet to capture a single picture of our other cat, but I have a dozen pictures like these already

For what it really is - which is an iPad with a keyboard - it seems like the rest of the specs are commensurate to the price, and I feel like they're going after Chromebooks more than "real" computers (including not wanting to cannibalise their own sales of the Air), but I just can't pick if it's going to be a fizzer

I should have bought that rack though

shy plinth
#

i'm glad i did, the built in bus bars are nice

last cedar

I had to get my own....

shy plinth
#

i scooped one of their ebay deals that came with the rack for free w/ 4 batteries. downside atm is i need to get it into HA

#

sol-ark integrations through wifi are kinda meh

last cedar
#

hence not grabbing that one

shy plinth
#

very good reason

holy link batman

#

Sol ark is Deye right?

shy plinth
#

yeah

last cedar
#

It looks similar to the Deye inverters on the front

shy plinth
#

iirc deye is exclusively branded and sold as sol-ark in the us

Can I get some Fs in chat for my first smart home retiree, as that lighting circuit now has a neutral.

It's also now a two-way so I need to rejig the box anyway, but that's a story for another time thread

shy plinth
#

Then bought the batteries after the fact and installed em myself

I am hoping to do all of the install myself and getting an electrician in to do the final hook up of the 3 phase power

#

Have some other changes to make to the house system too, so might as well make the most of it

#

Planning to heat my cellar with the waste heat from all the equipment 😄

shy plinth
#

plus was up against the tax credit deadline here

last cedar
#

That makes good sense also

#

I work with low voltage stuff for a living, door entry, cameras, alarms etc so I feel fairly comfortable with that bit

#

it is just slightly thicker cable

I am probably going to mount on the wall of my house and on the ground, we get a reasonable amount of snow and were are at 59* North here so very low sun in the winter

#

Front of house would work for later in the day to charge electric car etc though, so will eventually have some on the roof too

shy plinth
#

ooh yeah, i had some slight HOA limitations where could probably have done a ground mount but they wouldn't have been keen on it

last cedar
#

I think (as a person living in Sweden) that HOA just seems like a complete and massive steaming pile of BS

shy plinth
#

and they are very chill otherwise so no need to annoy them

#

mine is very minimal on cost and they provide a playground, splash pad for kids and some other common areas plus do some movie nights and food truck events so not too bad

last cedar
#

I understand the need for people not building skyscrapers and giant pink gerbils for houses, but I have seen some nightmare stuff on youtube etc

shy plinth
#

oh 100%

last cedar
#

That doesn't sound bad at all tbh

i live at uni so i cant do this but also i dont remember a single time the power has gone out in the 3 years ive been here

#

will be moving to a real apartment soon and hope it will be the same

last cedar
#

We don't get problems with power cuts either, for me it is about saving money long term and also having a backup power source in emergencies 2nd

exotic yoke
#

ah fair enough

#

god my childhood home had quite regular power outages

#

usually were short

#

but i swear any bad enough storm could knock out some crucial power line and leave us withgout for hours

My JetKVM died, big sad. Luckily I have a spare for the job at hand, But it is still a big sad.
Life just wanted to punish me as I has literally taking to a friend 30 minutes before it happened and was saying how great its been and recommending it.

#

mine is still working thankfully, that was a massive PITA to install on that box (i soldered jumpers onto the mainboard to get access to the power switch and LED, and had to add some resistors to get it all to work)

dawn badge
#

have been making some really nice progress on the project today then get knocked back

peak slate
#

dang that is a PITA to replace too then

dawn badge
#

then apprantly i didnt push the mini hdmi in the entire way so had to pull it out again 🙁

#

i guess better now then when the thing is in production...

#

Seems to be my story at the moment, I have a bunch of unfished projects before stuff keeps going wrong randomly.

It highlighted a poor assumption I had made in one of my automations

#

I was playing with HASS.Agent on my pc, so when I'm on video calls the panel light above the monitor can turn on automatically

#

Well guess what masquerades as a webcam and turns the light on 😆
