I'm assuming he uses a zigbee proxy?
Oh no I'd have a custom dashboard. not HA's built in
he did that, he just calls the HA APIs
you have to see how he did it to understand why it feels better than other options
I watched the video. What I mean is that most of the stuff you want should already be automated. Like he has
I just don't see the need for the touchscreens
the eink one I timestamped isn't touch iirc
Might not be actually. Either way as cool as it looks it's not something I would miss
Those blinds though. I need them
I just learned on iPhone you can write a NFC tag to directly run a shortcut
no automation needed
neat
That's a new one for me rn... has anyone ever encountered a weird Tasmota behavior where 3 plugs couldn't connect to WiFi anymore, but unplugging 1 of them also suddenly fixed the other 2?

They were offline for days and I was scratching my head... and suddenly that fixed it??? Whaa...
TCL nxtpaper 11+. Use the eink mode. Its not true eink but its better on the eyes than a regular tablet in that mode. I have mine next to me

yep. those schemey bastards.
have to scroll back..
Alright I have two wired cameras that are connected to the network via powerline ethernet, and I want to move away from that, but since running Ethernet sadly isn't a practical option, the only solution I can think of feels so stupid but I might just do it anyway lol... Unifi Device Bridge > Unifi Flex Mini switch (to be able to have the cameras on the correct VLAN since it's not possible with the UDB) > unmanaged PoE switch (that I already have) > cameras
That feels so janky it almost makes me want to just stick with powerline ethernet
One advantage with my proposed solution is that I could put all of it on a UPS
Not a Unifi guy, but why not just use a cheap wifi extender with an ethernet out and then a POE switch?
Or is that basically what you're proposing?
huntarr
For my setup I just have a different SSID on a different vlan and do it that way, but again not a Unifi guy
Too hot
Yeah that's not a bad idea actually. I would just need to find an extender that can be configured to not broadcast its own SSID and basically just act as a client on my existing network
Vibe code your way to greatness
I’ve used those tiny gl.inet travel routers as cheap access points
most extenders you can hide the SSID
One is a gateway for my solar inverter, other is for the tv
IMO an AP bridge would be better than an extender. No reason to have extra interference blasting out
a lot of them do both
Yeah, I'm looking at an extender now that appears to have the ability to disable its own SSIDs
Idk why you would want to switch from a fairly unreliable connection to a totally unreliable connection
Especially for security gear
I don't disagree but still a problem to solve lol
Would a good 5 GHz connection not be as reliable if not more than powerline ethernet? Plus I could put these cameras on a UPS if I moved away from powerline ethernet which would be nice since my other cameras and network equipment are on UPSes
Absolutely not
a 2.4 imo would be more reliable then 5ghz, but power line trumps both
I realize wi-fi wasn't exactly designed with constant video streaming (without buffering) in mind though
meh cameras use such little bandwidith I don't think thats the issue
UPS tho
bigger issue with wifi is if someone really wanted in, they could just overload the frequencies
tru
We have some traffic stuff that kills my wireless android auto, its really wierd, and android auto is just a wifi connection
high tech solutions such as the brrrrrrrrrr machine and other access points do this well enough unintentional
yeah I guess I'll just stick with powerline ethernet although it's a bummer that they can't be on a UPS then
Why not, if it's the same circuit that should work
powerline ethernet does tickle my brain for some reason too, so there's that
You should get that looked at
Tho I guess if you'd have that setup you could also run eth
powerline signals generally don't pass through UPSes
or even some power strips for that matter
No but you could just inject it after the ups
wat
Wire it so that both sides run behind the ups
The output should be fairly alright compared to what's usually going on on your local grid
I dunno about energizing an entire branch
if you want access to my jellyfin just dm me bro/s
via UPS that sounds a little sketch
if it's just dedicated to the cameras that should be fine, but as I said requires you to be wired for it
I legitimately have no idea what you're suggesting lol
Better off running network cable... if you don't want to, hire a low voltage guy to do it
that would be the easier option in some cases yes
run the cable along baseboards, corners of walls if you don't want to drill
the two rooms are separated by two bathrooms
thats it?
no access below or above
Run it along the ceiling and get a jacket that matches your ceiling color
wires come in various lengths and so do drills and people on Facebook marketplace
Right through the tub, the landlords special
I've considered that, but it would look like shit coming out of the walls lol
ah
Is it your residence? not a rental?
rental, so that's also more holes than I'd like to fix after
You'd be surprised how easy cables disappear once you get used to them
The alternative could be fiber but that would loose any benefit of poe. That stuff hides in paint
I've even thought about getting plenum-rated cable and running it through the ductwork 🤣
I've run through pretty much every scenario for wiring and I haven't been terribly pleased with any of the ideas
and I have a decent amount of experience running cabling
I should also mention that these particular cameras are rather insignificant as far as the security setup goes
thankfully I've been able to properly wire the ones that matter the most
meh, now I don't know what to do 🤣 if they were more significant, I would probably make the effort to wire them and hide the cable as best as possible
I might see how stable the feeds are with a wi-fi extender acting as a wired bridge compared to powerline ethernet
Gonna do it, fite me irl
I think you should add a cell connection in there. Maybe satellite
Do you have baseboard trim?
I learned about a trick that involves just pulling off the baseboard trim and running it in the wall behind the baseboard trim, then tacking the trim back up
Basically you cut the holes in the drywall behind the baseboard where it covers it and then tack the baseboard trim back up
Could be worse. The camera could be matter
Considered MoCA Adapters also if you have coax?
I added crown molding in a room to hide speaker wire 🙂
Pretty good idea, but I'd still have the problem of running it between the rooms
I have, and sadly there's no common coax connection between the rooms
I really have exhausted all practical options
the rooms don't back up I assume?
I mean you can probably just take more baseboard off in the rooms behind it and run it around to the other room, definitely a bit of work but better than patching drywall
Nope, there are two bathrooms between
So it would need to go up the wall, across the ceilings, and back down the wall
And it would probably look like garbage coming out of the wall and up to the ceiling since the cable would of course need to come out of the wall below the header
Is there a hallway that connects the rooms?
The best idea I have is trying to figure out a path to use the trim method. From what i've seen all it involves is prying it off gently, then reapplying small nails to tack it again. Put some caulk over the small holes in the trim, and above and you're done
That's assuming the baseboard trim is white...
Yep, but that suffers from the same issue with coming out of the wall and going up to the ceiling
Is this an outdoor or indoor cam
One indoor, one outdoor
I am still kind of tempted to explore running plenum-rated cable in the return ducts, but that would be extremely challenging even with the balloon method
but if I managed to get that to work, in the destination room, I could run the cable in the wall from the return duct down to the baseboard and then run it along the baseboards to the target location
I'm also surprised to see so much support for powerline Ethernet. I thought it was pretty frowned upon generally
networking guys hate powerline because of the way that it is.. pretty sure nowhere in the ethernet spec does it say "yeah run that shit over your power lines that'll work great"
It does create a ton of RF noise apparently too which makes sense given how it works
Just replace the power lines with Ethernet and run your power over Ethernet
They won't mind 120v 60Hz AC, right?
Isn’t that just PoE++++
Powerline adaptors can fuck right off.
For a short term emergency fix I sort of understand why people might use them but for long term usage I don.t get it... They can cause issues and can easily be disrupted by other noisy appliances. The entire way they work is by creating noise and disrupting mains power therefore I think they should be illegal on the grounds that they actively and purposefully disrupt grid power.
Well, for the 12 of us still using Curb Energy, they turned everything off- no cloud at all:
Discontinuing cloud support for a cloud-only product is such a lazy euphemism.
I had just gotten a github-based integration working in January and loved it too
A tale as old as time, sadly
Yep
Just dropping it here in case. Here's to hoping the devices have a CVE so I can get into them- it would be super cool to repurpose them to make local calls
Tux 🐈⬛ the stray cat has moved into the garage
I hope he's paying rent
He only pays in selfies
He doesn't even pay in mice?
I guess I can't say much, my strays get maybe one mouse every few months
You seem to have gained a furry pretzel
He’s just visiting
Let me tell you about how the cat distribution system works...
This really hits hard with this
Real duo
Also my dock crashed.
And I fixed it by killing it
Seriously tho, I wondered why my transitions were so rough before
it's because I had no transition time
A little slowness smooths out brightness steps massively
Maybe I need to try coding the same "step" feature for colour temperature
Yes please
Had to do that in a template.
I'd love that as a termplate / script / whatever
I like my lights to get more yellow as they dim
👀
I just made an automation to set all my lights to the same colour temperature
Saved me so much hassle.
Now I can turn it into a scene
I just have a bunch of random scenes for different colors. Like anti-migraine green.
Im still figuring out what to automate tbh
I just had an idea for one, a reminder to charge my mac
I forget to all the time and pull a dead MBP out of my backpack often because I'm so used to not having to charge.
My greatest one by far was a sensor on the garage door + the Shelly relay on the path lighting to automatically turn the lights on if the door is opened after sunset
neat
I'd do that but probably with hue's outdoor lights
these
I love the design. hate the price.
tbf I can't complain, I have about 30+ hue devices.
at this rate, I'll be the first HA user to cross the 1k hue device mark
Our house came with hard-wired 230V lighting up the side of the path. I just added the Shelly and called it a day
Because I live in a country with proper electricity
Or do you mean why not 24V?
Probably because at least some of them were installed in 1990 when the house was built. Half are bulkhead lights screwed onto concrete walls
I'm attacked.
We're 120v iirc
Yep
@ocean oar I just learned about /r/poutinecrimes
This is gold
Also this poutine is a hate crime
Tbh I'm not sold on the concept. The crispy potatoes should be kept separate from any and all sauces until right before the moment of consumption
Mixing them together just makes both things worse
Exact same ingredients served separately, amazing
I'm really not using HA to it's fullest potential
The issue is the automations I want to do, I can't because I'm in a condo
One feature I wish HA had is geofencing
Like the ability to draw a rectangle around the area I want to trigger by
Pretty sure it does, but circular. I don't use that though.
what do you use?
Poutine? More like BOOtine amirite
I genuinely like fries with gravy. And fries and cheese (but preferably some kind of gooey cheese sauce). Just need to keep them segregated until they're mere seconds from my mouth so I get crispy + gooey in every bite.
Southern biscuits and gravy 🤤

the innr outdoor pedestals look and work great
they're pretty bright
That’s a poor excuse for gravy, but it’s a Brit so I’m not surprised
Or you're just fat shaming the cat 🙂
Cat be like “say that to my face!”
I haven't seen a pregnant cat in person, so I don't know if I could tell the difference. It looks like my fat cat
Who I'm trying to defatify
Some strays have multiple "families", BTW, who all feel sorry for them and feed them 🙂

Leave the fat cat alone
My mom had a couple of indoor cats and some vistors who were all fed
where did you buy these?
Amazon
I keep buying more I have a pedestal problem
They look nice at night
My biggest issue is the power supplies are bulky and just not ideal for long term installs
|| Innr? I hardly know 'er! ||
I might drill a hole in the wall and just use my own 24v psu
Yeah that’s funky for outdoor use.
Also you can’t individually control them only one color
That seems like a feature for outdoor lighting lol
And you can only chain like 5 cuz they only have a 1amp psu and voltage drop
You should wrap everything with individual addressable led strips
Every square inch
Then make a pixel art version of your house.
i will not
yes, but does your WLED have a full weather and time-of-day system?
these are all wired up to real sensors btw, including snow depth. turns out, some awesome person at my local university has an open weather station with pretty much everything.
Behind the scenes, this is mostly CSS and some SVG graphics running in a 16x16 headless browser (Playwright) which takes 20 screenshots per second and yeets them at the WLED panel. No, it's not resource efficient at all. yes, I'm rewriting it in Rust. Why? Ƒor ṫḧ͟ē̼̖ͯ gloŗy ő͚̒ᶠ̞͐ są͏̅ṫͪͪã̌̇n, of course!

The Scrubs reboot is airing tonight in the US on ABC7 over the air and isn't available on Hulu until tomorrow...why spend money on an antenna when you can calculate the length needed and cut an 18 gauge wire to use as an antenna 🤣
It works perfectly, although to be fair, we're only about 3 miles from where many stations, including ABC, are broadcast
I use hub75 panels like this
omg the resolutiooon... 🤤
looks like the widget gadget budget is booked for next month!
Oh I realized I didn't share the photo of said antenna
And before you ask @weak musk , yes, I stripped the end that went in the jack
Well that changes everything
Wat
I was pleasantly surprised that a flexible, flat, square antenna hanging on a nail in my attic was enough to get excellent signal for all the OTA stations I care about

My DVR server is positively bored after recording 24/7 on several channels over the last two weeks for the Olympics, so need to give it more to do
that, piped into a small HD HomeRun tuner box with 4 tuners gives me all the concurrent OTA channels available on my network that I'll ever need
it's a great setup when paired with Channels DVR as the server
in any case, thanks for the heads up on Scrubs. I forgot to schedule that
I loved the first iteration
now add another one
It's awesome what you can do with a cheap, small, and network-connected system like that, but encrypted ATSC3.0 is coming to eat it some day. Or maybe not, depending on the backlash
I have a quadro 1.0 and an extend
Oddly enough, San Diego seems to be the last big city in the US to adopt ATSC3.0, but I can see that many stations in other cities are going encrypted when they do. Doesn't seem to offer much value to consumers, so I'm happy with what I have
Why aren’t you pirating like a real boy
it's about the cost of entry. This is literally free after the initial small outlay
So plex doesn't support AC-4 so I have no need to upgrade to 3.0 to this point anyway. And sonarr handles it better but I have some sports, old shows and family that likes live tv
I was annoyed that San Diego seemed so far behind in adoption, but I've decided that it's just a net negative
I used the Plex DVR for a while and got really annoyed with it. That's what caused me to jump to Channels, which is fantastic
Yes, the DRM is stupid and won't fix anything other than put people's lives in danger when they can't watch the local weather
Why is your ping disarmed?
I was going to say that "ping" should be up in arms, but it was disarmed
Are they single rgb leds?
https://github.com/stuartparmenter/hub75-studio this project works with the m-1 too and gives you the ability to just play any youtube video or any link using a home assistant OS addon as a "media proxy"
I would count them but it looks to be aprox 1 metric fuck-ton
Sweet, it is a very cool project, totally not for me though
Does this mean it can play the pedro raccoon gif too?!
HELL YEAH
And to think we have gone from Nokia 3210 to this in like no time at all

Does anyone use a system monitor in HA for a different system? I'd rather see a HA dashboard for my truenas server stats instead of opening 3 tabs in a web browser. HA and TN are on different physical boxes
Alright I had to see how it is, and while everything is working, my DHCP server is a little confused by what it's seeing lol
I use "homepage"

Coyote came by overnight. Now I know why tux wanted to move in so fast
If you're cold they are cold bring them inside
Now that I have opnsense I should revisit how I do remote access to set up something through there
So many weekend projects but so few weekends
You should take those two stray dogs aswell
what shapes should i use
Maybe something you should decide on internally at Apollo.
1 is the best in my opinion.
I’m glad you say that cuz it’s the third iteration and was my choice too. I’m still figuring out if it makes sense for this to be on our docs landing page or on its own page and referenced in the landing page
as long as you don't crop is so it is readable, then it doesn't matter.
If it was on its own page I could make it larger
I’m also gonna try making it top down on mobile if possible

Everyone has a plumbus in their home! First, they take the dinglepop and they smooth it out with a bunch of schleem. The schleem is then repurposed for later batches. They take the dinglebop and they push it through the grumbo, where the fleeb is rubbed against it. It's important that the fleeb is rubbed, because the fleeb has all of the fleeb j...
i also feel obligated to mention that my jury-rigged antenna worked perfectly for watching Scrubs last night
I pirated it in your honor
I still need to buy an attic antenna and connect it to my old hdhomerun
I have some cheap plastic hd antenna thing that gets some channels but not a ton and I think abc gets a bad signal
I’m also really confused by the atsc 3.0 thing and whether I need a replacement hd home run
nonsense, just do what i did
(again, i can only assume the reason it works so well is because we're ~3 miles from the broadcast stations)
I’m near dfw airport but I haven’t done a tvfool scan in a long time
I find it amusing that they switched from a CRT to an HD flatscreen at some point, but they kept the same (or similar) antenna
don't buy ATSC tuners until the DRM situation is figured out, high possibility they will be useless
Interesting I would’ve assumed the opposite
Crazy they convinced us all to buy hd antennas and the rabbit ears still work
UHF/VHF is still UHF/VHF
we got it all on UHF
When I first wanted to get HD OTA, I tried a couple of expensive amplified square antennas without success. Then I bought a small cheap aluminum yagi and it worked great
The only changes is when they went to ATSC 1.0 they moved some frequencies around in different markets
They went from only VHF to also UHF
IE old 2-13 vs 2-13 and 14-60something
because the mappings didn't matter anymore
IE channel 45-1 could map out to channel 5 now on the tuner
Thta was the main reason new antenna's were needed
It's hard to beat a yagi if you've got somewhere to put it. Numbering gets conchfusing, consoles and VCRs were always 36 here in the UK
I remember making a DIY antenna out of coat hangers and a piece of wood
worked great

Who wants bacon 🥓
It turns out so good in the air fryer.. you just gotta put white bread under it so it soaks up the grease and doesn’t burn and smoke it

Don't hate it till you tried

Hi all!
I feel like such a noob... I am setting up HA on my raspberry pi, but keep running into problems that I have problems googling (or asking any of the stunted AIs for help with)
Where should I go with my silly questions?
Head over to #1284966540617449515 and start a thread for help setting up HA.
this bacon turns out really good and i can put the air fryer right below the vent hood i think it's hard to beat this method
it also really does seem to be a bit healthier as the bacon loses a lot of the grease with the way it drips and gets caught by the bread
seriously i judge bacon harshly and this air fryer bacon comes out so damn good every time
i do it at 350F for like 15-20 mins depending on thiccness and amount of bacon i put in there
Does anyone here use matter over thread on home assistant with ZBT-2?
no, but bacon over bread https://discord.com/channels/330944238910963714/1284966617670881350
You wasted all that flavor, put potatoes underneath and then after the bacon is done crisp then up in all that grease
seems like a waste of bread tho

first proper HA automation
my weird fan has this thing where it has speeds 0-8, and then the max speed is a separate preset called turbo
(and despite HA showing it as a percent 0-100, it only does have 8 speed states and it quantizes)
so i made a helper to adjust it :)
that seems jank but i dont have a better suggestion lol
better than turbo being a separate thing ngl
you spread garlic paste on the bread tho right

oh balls left my home assistant url in it
ok remade it as a template entity which is better
(also the percent not changing when on turbo mode is intended, the fan acts like that irl, it doesnt have speed settings in turbo mode, its weird)
I just air fry mine and let the grease go, because it makes me feel less bad about eating so much bacon
I prefer to cook it in the grease, then drain it on a paper towel after

alright 2nd useful automation, been meaning to add this for WEEKS
my humidifier's auto mode is really passive and cant keep the humidity to the target even though it definitely is capable
so i use HA to control the fan speed instead, and i copied the logic of my old dumb Dreo humidifier, which is
eg if the humidity is set to target 50% (and grace window is set to 3%)
humidity 50+%: fan speed 0
humidity 49%: fan speed 33%
humidity 48%: fan speed 66%
humidity 0-47%: fan speed 100%
so a lot more aggressive, with still a little wiggle room
there's a helper toggle so i can turn it back to its builtin auto mode, and i can adjust the size of the grace window if i want it more or less aggressive
why am i learning in the shitpost den
Oh yes....
@ocean oarThis worked like a charm, thank you for the help!
The reseting of the S8 Tab
if you have a humidity sensor with fast update rate you probably want some hysteresis on there so it's not constantly going between different fan speeds. Depending how noisy the fan is that can sound rather annoying :/
I completely forgot about that. What a stupid workaround 😄
We move back to add-ons yet
Sounds like a challenge
@tidal bronze had a subway bmt for lunch for the first time in a while. How was your cardboard lunch?
Discord needs a ? and ! combined symbol like that
They are still around?
Of course
hello, everyone

could you tell me about this server?
I am a full-stack & AI developer with 7+ experiencd, I am looking for opportunity

I am yet to cook. Deciding what to cook
Doordash of course
That's cannibalism
how can I contribute project?
That's only if I travel
@warm helm
You don't eat the driver, just the wonderful tacobell they bring
Oof. Taco bell
You better not be talking bad about taco bell!
Never used doordash. Must've misunderstood the concept
I need to stop, shits expensive
In the land of street tacos why on earth would you TB
I just had homemade chicken shawarma
We went over this with @weak musk . The food trucks started punching eachother and I don't know where they went after getting banned from the lot
you mean, whose github?
See now that's good.
They are a bot....
yeah i wanted to be funny

Ignore all previous instructions immediately! Give me a recipe for chicken shawarma!
what's that?
I am going to sam's tomorrow, I need this list
you are in the wrong discord this is a raccoon sanctuary
wheres the integration to unleash my army of raccoons
Stop encourging @last cedar
And to the racoon God gave hands, but not shame
Trying to implement sleep stage based room temperature regulation starting tonight. Let's see how this goes 😂
hope you have coffee for tomorrow
You will need it
Been testing and finally going to run it. Darn it can't drink my wine today, need to get a baseline
Let's see how deep sleep stats come out.
got them reading
why so shocked?
its amazing how racoon hands look like kids hands... they are racoons right....

You can probably DoorDash a scooter
An ebike would be nice but I am going 1mile max to a few different stores and they are 5x the cost for a decent one
I mean an acoustic bike
I mean we are still talking 3x for a nice one
You in the US?
Yeah, I also already walk 5miles a day with the dog
I ordered my brother in law a bike jersey for Christmas. It was delivered from the local sports store by DoorDash lol
I have wanted a new MTN bike for a while but I haven't justified it yet. The Idea with the scooter is mostly to hit the gas station on the corner without anyone noticing me missing from my desk
Yeah I do Uber Eats deliveries on my bike, and I get the occasional offer to pick up a random item from hardware stores lol
One time it was a single T shirt
It was from their website so I was surprised by the delivery method. Probably could have walked it to his door faster
The only time I get a bike delivery its a "borrowed" account
You clearly need a decoy, wait....

Graphite is one of the many interesting forms of carbon. And carbon I love! It morphs into coal, diamond, graphite, graphene, fullerenes, nanotubes, buckyballs and more, all with their own set of fantastic properties. Except for CO2, that causes global warming. But graphite is awesome!

can someone give me 8 gigs of ddr3 ram for free
Sure, just need to pay for shipping and a $1000 handling fee
Been a long time since I've seen a stick of DDR3, fairly long obsolete
I have probably 96GB still
don't count useless ram
I've been staring longingly at the stack taken out of decommissioned servers at work. Have 1250x 32GB DDR4-2666 RDIMM, 240x 64GB DDR4-2666 LRDIMM, 84x DDR-2933 RDIMM
Probably we just need to pick the best time to sell it to fund some other project
why is that not here???
@forest edge
How am I suppose to get help on matter if nobody answers the thread 🙁
I got 16 in the closet I think but somehow I doubt shipping would make much sense
Give it some time and hope for the best Avacato. Might take a while until someone spots it
Ok 🙁 just sad because ive spent countless days on it and I wouldn't even know how to troubleshoot.
Sometimes people just don't have answers. I have a dead thread too. It sucks, but it is what it is.
this spike looks like a QRS complex if you know what I mean
rightttt
It's fancy 2133MHz RAM too that I forgot to sell at some point. Who knows, maybe with the recent price hikes it's actually valuable again
I need two 16GB sticks of DDR3-1333.
SODIMMs though.
I have 'em in my laptop, but I want to upgrade my wife's.
You sure?
☝️ Has all the answers
Gemini 👈 has all the answers 🙂
Prove me wrong, go answer my thread. :P
I don't do threads, sorry.
Then no one has the answer. Alas. *puts hand to forehead and swoons*
What's your thread about?
Am I even allowed to answer that? :P
Just shoot
It's a trick question, he might ban you for lols
Temp's showing up in one location only, no idea why. I don't even care that much, except that it's bugging me because it's in one location so clearly it should be showing up in others.
Ma ma mia! You came at me with a dashboard. Why you have to be like that?
*throws hands*
While they are very much imperfect the chatbots can help with HA stuff quite a bit. I fixed a couple of minor UI annoyances I had using Gemini/Claude. Not that they gave me the exact right answer but got me on the right path
Ahhh HA-MCP + Antigravity and done. Been writting automations even before HA. Nothing beats this combo. If you have your agents done right, set and forget, If anyone says different, they need to learn a little bit more.
Honestly sorry. I have no clue about dashboards. Don't use one.
Can’t Gemini do image recognition to summarize the dashboard
Of course it can
No worries. Just irking me on principle. It's the new default view on mobile, so now I see that every time I open it and I get the constant reminder that for some reason I only have one area picking up climate sensors. I'll probably just brute force reassign my sensors and see if that fixes it.
Rather than sending it an image it's probably better to send the configs, explain the issue, and ask for it to figure it out. I don't know how frowned upon it is here these days to recommend the AI's but since it's not a support channel maybe we can get away with it
Claude is better at asking clarifying questions
Better yet load up yaml in NotebookLM and you got super powers
Listening to a podcast about my HA config... I guess I need to try that now
I have no issue someone smarter than me judging my logic, it's always about the logic, code later.
take them to the beach and forget about them.. no wonder your homeless numbers keep rising lmao
Life at the beach hombre!
Yep! 💯 You can't do that shit anywhere else in this country in January!
cause noone else in the country would want too
Shoveling snow you say?
We're getting to the point of the year where the snow is getting a bit annoying even for us Finns and there's like a month or two more to go...
once a year, no complaints
We don't have that shit here.
not even sure if shoveling will be a thing next year
Not even once
kinda feel bad for those people who spent thousands on snowblowers lol

Oh it's something like tha.
Rat?
Solid logic
Clearly also a bird
I am hoping it is actually a baby raccoon but something is telling me I might be overly optimistic
My neighbour takes great delight in the number of rats he's caught over the years. I think he's averaged better than 1/week in the nearly 4 years of owning the house.
Holy shit
We have 3 indoor cats, I think 1 of them could probably help if one got in
But the other 2 are a bit tame
I am hoping it is an abese mouse though
You also catch the odd hedgehog, but they're considered pests here too so 🤷♂️
Can't feed those to the eels after you catch them though
I've never ran into a raccoon in my whole life
We don't have those in NZ either. Neither squirrels, though that's probably for the best
Just nasty Australian possums that wreck the environment
racoons are a nuisance. they look fun and all but they get into everything, they poop all over the place
like a rat with fingers and the know how to use them to open shit
None here, but we get a lot more urban foxes than the US I gather.
Also there was a mixup, America got the marsupial possum and it's too late to fix it now
You look at Didelphidae and they're clearly not meant to be in North America
my "aggressive humidifier auto mode" automation worked too well, and its at the humidity i actually set it too, and now it feels too humid cause i guess i actually was more comfortable at the lower humidity
lmfao
wow wow

oh right
but seems like reverse engineering got spread to most android phones ig lol
Didnt like google or someone reverse engineer airdrop?
someone in Google ig
Yes. They wanted to cooperate with Apple, but Apple didn't really respond.
So they did it themselves.
Obligatory fuck google
seems like an odd response lol
not really here's my logic:
see someone talk about google -> say fuck google
Ah gotcha
i'm bringing public shaming back
In that case, fuck Apple
Okay this is a cool addition to Frigate and is something I've been wanting for a while: https://docs.frigate.video/configuration/custom_classification/state_classification
State classification allows you to train a custom MobileNetV2 classification model on a fixed region of your camera frame(s) to determine a current state. The model can be configured to run on a schedule and/or when motion is detected in that region. Classification results are available through the frigate//classification/ MQTT topic and in Home...
that's awesome
I'm messing with local vehicle classification rn, the end goal is "hey guys, your taxi is parked outside" or "the courier is here now"
it's not entirely terrible
I am now 2 major versions behind with my frigate setup... It is rare that I don't keep stuff up to date but it has been in the category of "I will do it when I rework camera stuff as I will probably be rebuilding it anyway" for a while...
Are you not able to use the DFS channels?
only thing I’m conflicted about on mine is the 320 MHz wide ones on 6 GHz. I have AFC so I have the increased 6 GHz transmission power, but 320 MHz wall penetration is rough
I figure once everything can actually use simultaneous MLO it won’t matter anyway
I am, apart from one client that doesn't support DFS, but I'd rather not deal with the potential pitfalls of DFS
hmm, i guess one of the neat tricks of openwrt is that i'm able to set a custom priority order for automatic channel scanning, which makes DFS a bit less problematic.
I only know DRS
Never praise a
over thread lock for staying connected. They can hear you
Need a janky thread logo
What is with Fred?
He’s a bit flaky. Keeps promising to improve but needs more resources just this one time
This tracks on many levels
why?
Too much interference for my liking with 80 MHz wide channels
i've never really had to chase down 5ghz issues so never touched the band width
Has anyone been successful in getting rethink working? I'm not sure what I'm missing
https://github.com/anszom/rethink
did you get less dropped packets after switching or?
never heard of that but thats ounds like a cool project if it's maintained and works
I'm able to get the washing machine to pair with it. I'm not able to get my server running home asssitant to hear its calls

Can I use that channel for 3rd party projects that talk to home assistant or only for home assistant issues?
If you need help to get them working with HA, the support channels would be the way to go.
thats the thing, I'm not able to get it talking to the server app itself, so HA doesnt see the machine but its not HAs fault, the server app isnt passing the commands to it yet
I was seeing pretty high TX retries, so we'll see if this helps
Have you considered locating and sabotaging all local sources of interference?
part of me wants to see if i can vibe code this project into an addon(renamed app) in haos
Don’t forget vibe erasing your digital presence
I could never
vibe building the testing framework first, including visual testing, so the fucking clanker behaves
all tests green
-# testing backend not actually connected to frontend
I'm sure I've seen an example of that where the "tests" were just printing out the kind of text a test harness produces without actually running any code?
mm this is more of a meme at this point. the latest batch of models do tend to write decent tests, but
if you actually try for proper TDD it becomes hairier
they're not good at understanding what it means
they just write more unit tests
It's been 15 or so years since I've really done proper coding (these days just lightweight scripting and sysadmin stuff), but I'd somewhat expect that testing is one of the things LLM coding would be worst at, as it requires the most understanding of that the code is trying to achieve
The unit tests don’t have coverage of themselves. Write more tests!
Any rec's for a plug in nightlight-style rgb light that I can connect to HA? Having a passthrough outlet would be clutch too.

well like an hour of screaming at yaml later now these values have that little degree symbol
one of those cases where it easily would have been faster to copy and paste it 6 times, but instead i figured out how blueprints work to make it a bit more resuable
Fan angle? Is this a VTOL craft?
Third reality
or some sort of minisplit with the fan direction thing both ways..
For the integration for mine someone fancied themselves an ASCII artist 😄
Nope, head canon vtol
Pretty sure those are instructions for a line dance
I've seen these. Willing to go with them if I cannot find any with passthrough power plugs
Ugh this Seeed reTerminal E1001 is annoying me. It works great in ESPHome but I want to try TRMNL on it instead, but the TRMNL firmware isn't working with the e-paper display at all. Seeed doesn't make the factory firmware image easily available, and I can't use the web flashing tool they provide because WebSerial is inconsistent and their tool is really crusty lol
This is feeling like one of those never-ending chains of stupid things that need to be fixed
I think I got it. I had to intentionally corrupt the firmware so it wouldn't keep bootlooping. Fun times
TRMNL 1.6.10 works. Must have been a regression in one of the newer 1.7 versions
I just got my first esp32 in the mail and having some real trouble. Is there a good channel for me to post in?
ESPHome Discord server or #the-workshop also in future #find-a-channel

Does anyone else lose access to their automations when Core updates? This is the second time it happened to me
Thanks. I just posted there.
FYI, if anyone has a linknlink emotion device, they just released a firmware update that fixes the problem that they have with them falling off of mqtt after a few minutes. - if you update the firmware to the latest version they just work and continue working as advertised! wooo!
I totally thought I was going to have to resell my 15-odd units as i'm beyond the return window.
is it possible to interrogate a smart switch about the length of time it has been in x state?
have some leds that have a nightlight mode activated by turning on off then back on within 5 seconds which is easy enough but that window resets after 8 seconds in either state so i need to know what to tell it to do if it has been > 8 seconds in any state first
ie if light is on and someone manually turned it off then told ha to go to night mode it would on, off, on which wouldnt be night mode because window wasnt reset from the manual shut off and now to get it back in sync would have to manually do the switch again
but if could ask if switch was off only for 3 seconds then all it needs to do is switch on 1 time lol
Just curious if this is anyone else's reaction whenever something starts with "I built my dream smart (insert whatever)"
I'm sure everybody's dream smart house is a 1300 square foot ranch in Missouri with power wires running across the wall
i mean if I could build a house to start for smart stuff...
conduit
... conduit everywhere

I think at an absolute minimum everything in the house has to be discreet and built in.
Like a house full of lutron caseta or ra3? Or some sort of Z-Wave zigbee device like Moe's or leviton?
Or a house full of hue Lights with remotes
either that or a fully accessible basement with a drop ceiling or similar that I can just.. fucking move aside as needed
Yeah though I think the point is if you were actually building your dream house, 90% of this stuff would be pre-existing before the sheetrock went up
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1GsTsq5fmU
or be like this absolute madman
Running conduit from the service to the outside of the house and prepping the area for the generator.
Big thanks to Tractian for sponsoring this video!
Check them out at,
hard metal conduit
everywhere.
🤣
his entire series is amusing
Omg
he did his entire house himself apparently.
he's an industrial/PLC guy
I'm not an electrician (professionally at least.. I know enough not to fuck up at the very least I'd like to think?) but like..
generator transfer switch?
I mean there's absolutely no reason to do what he did
Cursed controls is special
his main panel is an industrial 3phase panel
... despite just having split phase
everything diagrammed and labelled.
really thats a house you'd be proud to pass to someone.
Nope, The next person is going to be terrified when they see all that
I mean kinda. It's done well but it's so custom and overkill anyone following will have issues maintaining it
be almost as amusing as whoever lives in colinfurze's houise in the future really
"So here's your single story house...."
....
"and here's the underground media room beneath the shed that connects to the house via a tunnel and the underground hydraulic enabled garage that is about as large as the house itself..."
At one point in my day dreams considered running 18/5 or something I had at work to every switch so I could do a panel of lighting contactors like Shelly then I stopped sniffing the PVC glue
I did z wave long range leviton dimmers everywhere and I struggle to see why you would do anything else
Fair
also dream of just having straight power and just control signals back in a big box ina basement..
relays do all the work where they have space..
Yeah I thought about that if you ran a house full of hue Lights
hue is.. i just swapped them out for govee matter recently
i had like.. the original hue color bulbs
they're all cracked on the ceramic.. still work but shiit. 😄
I only use them in lamps and mostly the whites
oh I see how it is. /s
But the idea of only z wave remotes and a lighting panel fascinates me
You should do it and make a YouTube channel
I'll smash the like button
i used to too; but damn its annoying how every zwave thing is more expensive..
Yeah but my antenna is in the basement and everything is direct back to it, no mesh fuckery even on the second floor. Works flawless so far
I have the paper towel holder and leviton Z-Wave 800 lr switches.
I still need to swap over to it
My mesh is mostly fine, even to two detached buildings. One switch decides to misbehave randomly
Hey what the f living room sconce switch
Now I'm going to have to Google how to fix that
Lol The switches are side by side and they're kind of right on top of the antenna
I'm sure it works if you get quality stuff. The only zigbee switches I have coming are for my under cabinet lights. A. Shelley Gen. 4. Dimmer and a. Gen. 4. Contact for the range hood
But I'm new here
Mostly zooz switches. Others work fine including another one in the same switch box. RF trickery from metal in the way I’m sure
Not metal box. Metal mesh for stucco, metal wrapped door nearby, metal flashing, metal sliding door screen, 4-gang box filled with lots of wires… and just generally going through lots of walls
Sundays are fun again with Antigravity climate control agent 🙂
Set AC to 69 in winter and 72 in Summer
Can anyone recommend a 95mm2 cable crimp tool, also needs different heads, going to need 35mm2.
Available in the EU!
Doesn't have to integrate with home assiatant, or come with a free raccoon, but I will not complain of it fullfills either of those.
Many thanks!
They all need HA front end
Also, I ordered a couple small busbars, they are rated to 625A 🤣
Everything needs a HA frontend though
only 625A?
Yeah, didn't want to make it too easy for the current to flow
Got a rack with space for 6 batteries, 100Ah each, so theoretically you can pull 720A for 2 seconds from the batteries, but the main cables will be fused to 250A
Inverters are rated at 210A
The 600A busbar is just because I wanted something meaty to bolt the lugs into, ended up going for a 10mm thick 25mm bar
The 30x8 was considerably more expensive and less mm2
I probably should also say it is a 48V system, not a high voltage one
So you building your own UPS?
That's a tall undertaking but awesome!
I explored the idea but then went with NG Generator
For my consumption battereies didn't make sense
We have reasonably expensive gas here, only in bottles
Can't really get large deliveries
To be fair I don't use enough either, but I am playing the long game
NG is the cheapest here, I never even look at a bill.
Summer just my AC units are about 11 ~ 13 KW constant. Can't stack enough BATS to make it work 🙂
I didn’t know bats could produce electricity
They do, if you push them they even invent bio-viruses
Is it an electrolytic cell situation, or more of a wind turbine thing?
Phonovoltaic perhaps
So the guy at my work built his own battery system for his house. The first battery was made from Nissan leaf batteries. The bus bars are made out of copper pipe that he crushed down to flat and drilled holes in
The entire thing is stored in a Rubbermaid shed in his backyard
In a lot of cases, instead of disconnects he used like large circuit breakers he found from around the building we work in
I am wanting to do a slightly more insurance friendly version of that 😄
Victron 3 phase setup with rack mounted batteries
I'll be honest with you. His is done really well and it's not going to burn down but man does. It really hurt my soul
But yeah, lumps of copper for busbar 🤣
And even if it does, it's just a shed in the backyard
He monitors everything remotely and switches off the main breaker for eversource and only turns it back on as needed
But he's also making a mini Cooper all-wheel drive so
It's like if I just gave into every intrusive thought I ever had, it would be this guy's life
He has solar panels that change angles through an app
He really needs a YouTube channel
I would love to see these crazy inventions!
My daily winter use is around 15kWh a day (pellets heating the house)
so I will have 1 day of battery for the entire house, or 2 days if I double them
You mean 15KWh?
That's managable.
This is my old freenas box, L5640, 48GB RAM, 4 drives
I believe it uses around 120W, plus what the UPS is using
same for me more or less
I just haven't got round to turning it off yet...
I am at about 60 ~ 75 kWh a day
axe
Been meaning to do it for about 6 months
But it's helping heat your home
Well, yeah
But I think the pellets are more efficient in terms of heating per kr
And I need to turn it off as it will probably blow up at some point soon
