makes sense, its a large community. I am currently migrating a MUCH smaller server (~100 members) to a now self hosted matrix/synapse setup and the discord bridge works fairly well for the in-between times. definitely a bit more of a hurdle for users understanding a bit more technical than just discord login and done but not too much. plenty of options out there though. if any kind of contributions are needed for technical discussions always happy to help out

The HA forums still exist so it's not a huge deal for most people I think. Which is a really good thing for keeping data around because searching on discord or any similar platform really is far from ideal.
But I doubt this small shake up will cause many issues, seems like most people are OK with the direction discord is taking.

A big part of why people will continue to use discord (not specifically just this community but in general) it lack of other real alternatives currently. as much as some people will scream that matrix etc... are solutions. for most people... they are not (at least not yet).
Discord for all its faults is easy for people of all technical abilities to use.

I've hidden YouTube shorts. It was mostly women with big boobs playing guitar for me which is not what I log on to YouTube for. The medium-to-long form content there has basically completely replaced my TV watching in the last 5-10 years. The quality and expertise is just much higher than I would see on TV almost regardless of the topic and if you pay a little bit of attention to what you watch the algo can quite quickly figure out what I want to a point where I rarely even subscribe to any channels

There used to be a meta where content creators made videos one or two seconds over 10 minutes so they could place more ads etc. But generally I feel that's very rare in the content that I watch
