CG-NAT?
You didn't even have to filter any of it ๐
You get ipv6 at least?
No incoming connections for you then ๐
sob
Have you tried contacting your ISP? Mine took me off CGNAT as soon as I asked, free of charge.
gonna try later
no matter if its a dynamic ip it's still public ip
I'll just use ddns
A lot of the time the non CGNAT Dynamic IPs stay around for a long time as well
Make sure you've tested IPv6 properly, like google to see if theres any advice
Lots of carriers do IPv6 differently lol
yeah the wan ipv6 isnt the same as whatsmyipaddress
Thats normal
The fact you have an ipv6 address means you have ipv6
https://test-ipv6.com/ @steel pumice try this
oh really?
IPv6 is per device unique IP
ooh maybe i can use it for port forwarding>?
with ipv6 you don't have to "forward" as the device has a unique routable address. but you have to allow connections through what is called a "pinhole"
(Or firewall)
oh right, I should fix the IPv6 here
I also need to double check my firewall rules for IPv6...
honestly, the only reason to get ipv6 running is to be able to VPN to my homenet on v6 only networks...
meh, looks like the simple way to do dyndns that I use doesn't support AAAA ๐
Maybe I need to update my provider.... https://dynv6.com/ seems to support it
Get a domain?
I have one. But I have the main DNS with namecheap and they don't offer an API for dynamic changes ๐
Well that sucks
so I delegate 1 address and 1 domain for dns0 challenges and the dyndns respectively
Ongycom
Configuration for Namecheap.
To enable API access on the Namecheap production environment, some opaque requirements must be met. More information in the section Enabling API Access of the Namecheap documentation. (2020-08: Account balance of $50+, 20+ domains in your account, or purchases totaling $50+ within the last 2 years.)
Boo. Not so cheap
filtered to valid client IPs as well ๐
but yea, that's why I delegate part to luadns and part to cloudns as is
Maybe I can just move the ddns bits from cloudns to luadns. Since I use them for dns0 challenges already...
I'm watching the Olympics and I find the drone whine to be particularly annoying, but provides an interesting camera perspective. I also note that the drone gives up on luge after the first turn ๐
drone whine? on the audio? They cannot filter it out?
Well, they don't
You can see them flying around in other camera views and hear them easily
sign up for Cloudflare's free tier and make them your DNS provider
No

They started filtering out the vuvuzelas at the football pretty quick ๐
I'm aware that it would be one of the easiest ways to do this
I just don't want to
because I'm stubborn
You would also think for a fixed track sport like the luge that putting the camera on a rail would be far easier
Not sure they don't. Like a horse race
Maybe hard to get the angle consistent around turns and such
but do they have the penis implants for ski jump?

wang wing implants
They did mention in the women's ski jump that the controversy only applied to the men's run ๐
The spiked gloves they use in luge look terrifying
wang chat again?
No weโve switched to talking about butts
whoever made these are legends
AHH! luadns you dumbos
apparently I can update either my A record or my AAAA record in one call, but not both ๐คฆ
duckdomainnamesystem
How often are your ipv6 addresses changing? For my ISP its static for free for example
I do it because its fun to have dual stack
Haven't checked. But I suspect it's the same as the v4. On PPP renegotiation
PPP?
Yes
What is that
annoying
The protocol my ISP uses for connecting to their infrastructure.
lol
I'm just used to how all the ISPs do it here where its standard DHCP leases, just connect to an NTD and job done
mainly hate it because it's encapsulating, so I'm giving up a couple bytes of MTU ๐
If that thing has any credentials (or gets sent personalized after the contract is made) there's a good chance that just encapsulates your PPP for you
I wish I could just get DHCP out of the wall ๐
Its MAC address authorised for the network iirc
that'd be hilariously insecure
NTD is not user set, they're fixed to the wall, just plug into the ethernet port and get dhcp out
You still need an internet plan for it to be active to do anything
anyways, time to reboot the router and see if it all works
<and we never saw him again>
almost. For somer reason /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/all/forwarding was 0 after the reboot
anyways. things work
hmmm gonna tell my dad about this
2 bucks more is nothing for a dynamic address
maybe tell the ISP it's for ip camera purposes which probably makes it free muheheheheh
imagine having ipv6
why imagine when you already have it
i have not
Can't swap to an ISP with support?
NOp
That sucks
it is what it is
I like my /48 of IPv6
I am the fella on 5G LTE :D
ew
๐
Though 5G doesn't mean no 5G, but does mean no public accessible 5G
I mean the alternative is DSL
iits fine I didnt feel like portforwarding anyway
Yeah that sucks
I should've moved to qld when I had the chance!
Dayum did the Raspberry Pi 2 that discord is running for the embeds just die?
half of the embeds are failing
I can see that the image is being hit in the logs but it just isn't being loaded lol
small indie startup
apparently so
what's that snarky message when you're on your own in a call
"bandwidth doesn't grow on trees! wumpus sad!"
๐คฎ
we need an EU moratorium on overly peppy and quirky corporate copywriting
I mean if I were to write that message i'd be something along the lines of "lol no friends"
we already have
yasss
Does anyone have the wican obd2 from meatpi? im curious if you can cleat codes from inside home assistant with it
Quick question please don't yell at me, this is not Home Assistant itself, but when Tado talks about an open window is there a way to find out which sensor triggered it? other than by like... taking it up on its offer to turn off the heat and seeing which heat it turned off
I have absolutely had it with this lawnmower integration, can anyone help me? Got 2 main questions.
|| Where do I connect the thread to (on both the lawnmower and into the house) and how do you stop the thread getting caught in the trees in the garden? ||
You attach the thread to the racoons
But there are no raccoons in Sweden
This is what I have been saying
And they would probably bite the thread
I guess you canโt do thread based lawnmowers /s
Bluetooth doesn't work either
I can't get the bees to help
It doesn't have arms so it can't wave
I might have to abandon it
On a semi serious note it would be cool to make it into a big RC car so I could plow with it
Without freezing my tits off
Smoke signals always work. Use Tuya.
Gotta get thread powered tit warmers
i could use those RN.. i am on mi motorcycle
Ever since I got an ikea air monitor, I'm obsessed with the co2 readings
It bumps up so quickly when I go to bed and its so hard to get it down without opening a window
we're gonna have another ac tomorrow yipeee
Why not dc?
The drone view in downhill skiing feels like a video game
Would love a POV or 3rd person shot for Bobsled or Skeleton
I think I figured out peak physical switch "ergonomics" in a house with motion activated lighting
Up and down is off and on as expected, with no consideration to the motion automation. If you hit on and then stand still the light will turn off eventually
If you double click on or off, the motion automation will be disabled entirely and the switch is in "dumb switch" mode indicated by the LED turning off
And bonus points for 3 clicks on up immediately turning to full brightness
Can always tell if the motion automation in a room is enabled or disabled and can always physically override the automation in what I feel is an intuitive way
Oh and hit the weird previously useless button to turn motion back on
I know it's not much... But it's honest work
Mushroom template cards and "custom features" are life saver hacs integrations.
Good boy had a good time in the forest lol
Just a dumb question. How would y'all recommend I install HA on TrueNAS? I see a lot of people recommending HAOS but that seemingly has issues with some Zigbee controllers.
Better answered in #1284966540617449515 I think!
I think I will try running HAOS as a VM under proxmox, might be worth exploring that in TN Scale?
Hacking commenced
No raccoons found. Abort! Abort!
Wi-Fi 7 routers promise game-changing speed, lower latency, and more stable connections. All thanks to features like Multi-Link Operation (MLO). But do these routers actually deliver on everything their marketing promises? We tested the MLO capabilities of 25 routers to see if the hype is justified, or if itโs all just marketing.

some crazy routers in that list

You won't believe #4!
i like how they came out and just said, skip the 7 and go back to 6 lol
the site is nice for comparing tv's
they even listed the android version which I used when picking out my hisense
thats not something you can find on the damn box or anything
Is it AFC?
We'll never know!
just look at these masterpiece

You could work for the DOJ

they do
That's where you stole them black pixels
what's next, hone asinstint cununity sorfe?
@tidal bronze you have anything to do with the spaceballs 2 movie?
Nah man. Antigravity agents got me all hooked.
๐คฃ Xfinity just had a Jurassic Park superbowl commercial where the fences failed until a guy plugged in an xfinity router... and I'm over here wondering who in their right mind buys cloud-based fences for their dinosaur zoo.
More likely situation - Seems like the internet went down, maybe try rebooting the router?
This is a very boring game
It doesn't seem like either team is capable of completing a pass
at this point i hope it ends without a single touchdown
Give that guy the ball and let him run into a pack of other guys
That would be the most exciting thing that could happen
They already tied the most field goals apparently
well so much for that
The Alexa+ commercial is a train wreck
I concur with the commentary
Lots of talk about defense, but they're just missing everything
These passes are painful to watch
It's cgnat
HAOS with sonoff ZigBee USB
Oh. A navbar card? First time I'm hearing about such thing
That's really cool. The hardest part imho is finding the right custom integrations/cards. Once you know they exist, it's super easy to set up. If you don't know they exist, you will be trying endlessly without success.
For example button card seems way too complicated when one can just use the template card along with custom features.
My old spaghetti wiring LED setup kept falling out of the EPS32 connectors so I went overkill on a new one.
lol:
I absolutely despise Node Red and am finding it infuriating to learn. In your opinion, is it worth it? I had quite a few automations setup through HA's automations menu but felt like the consensus is that Node Red is almost necessary for long term automation.
What gave you that feeling?
I am not in HA all day every day, I don't have lots of experience with different languages and verbiage, and I honestly don't have a huge desire to spend a ton of time learning it because home automation is a relatively minor hobby of mine. This has not been an issue at all for me with any other part of HA, and I've managed to get a pretty intricate network going. Node Red does not feel like it was made for people like me in mind.
This would be a good conversation to have in #1284980040940912641
Most people don't use NodeRed, so...don't
Really? Huh. That was not my impression from my minor lurking in the different communities, so that is reassuring to hear.
I always assumed I was one of the few people that didn't.
It's unnecessary and most don't use it
I started automating with Node-RED many years ago, before there was an Automation Editor UI. I had come up with some pretty useful stuff. Had to learn a little bit of JavaScript and write my own functions to get flows to do exactly what I want. Nowadays, almost all of my automations are in HA. I only have one that I still rely on and that's just because I can't figure out how to get it to work in HA (particulary the events:states node "When a light is turned on.)
Most of reddit has drunk the NR Kool-Aid. Most other forums are way less fanatical about it. There's very little it can do that native Home Assistant automations cant.
@surreal pilot & @young sigil these are both great things to hear, thank you for the input. I always assumed that if I kept automating within HA I would eventually find myself pretty kneecapped.
there are some loud people that love it and wont accept otherwise.
I get people that still use it because they have used it for a long time before the automation editor.
I don't use it personally.
One thing it can do that HA cant is polygon geofencing. HA still only has circles.
Rereading your first message, I realize you were asking about my consensus comment and not why I don't like NR. My bad haha.
the core automation engine is getting a lot of love at the moment too.
I love it. I've found it to be the exact amount of guiding for noob-ish dumdums like me while still complex enough to be useful. Whereas with NR I kept trying to just play around with it but would just get indecipherable (to me) errors with no info on how to fix it or how to learn.
you "could" probably template something if you were so inclined I guess?
I would just drop NR entirely. unless you specifically needed it for something which it doesn't appear is true here..
So you set up a circle, then a bunch of exclusion circles...
There is a steep learning curve with NR. For me, it was easier to visualize the automation rather than trying to write it all out in YAML. Being able to see the flow as it worked made it easier to troubleshoot and tweak. Being able to connect a debug node anywhere and see the message(s) being passed helped. But, like other have mentioned, core HA automation does just about everything. I have pages of NR automations that are disabled and have been for years.
I am not so inclined ๐
Circles are fine.
I imagine that is the case with most people ๐
Huh, annyoing. Connected zigbee door sensor to zigbee router.. taped door sensor to door and now it is not online anymore ๐ and it's fixed there with a tape.
Anyone have an indication as to how long this usually takes? Been stuck there for the better part of 10 minutes.
It's one of those, do I let it run for another 30 and hope it finishes, or do we risk a reboot.
Do you NEED to reboot it now? Why not just wait?
Rofl, right as I posted that, it finished ๐
Just took so long compared to other stuff, I expected it to be stuck.
It's a fairly beefy server and it was using like 0% CPU.
Couldโve been downloading instead
Or just booting
They are just docker containers
Yeah just thought it took a bit long. Got 1gbit networking and a pretty fast server. No component ever took the 15+ minutes that it took before. I should be patient, but I was doing a full HASS upgrade and didn't want to wait an hour for nothing ๐
@tidal bronze reading the superbowl halftime show was the worst ever. how does that make you feel?
Didn't check it out yet. Soon
I thought you had tickets to go and see it?
didn't you say you had like a box seats or something
Hmmm no. Not that interested in sports ๐คฃ
you are the only person who ever even mentioned the name bad bunny
Oh it was just interesting ๐คฃ
I watched like the first 3 minutes of that halftime and that dude was like having a stroke in the mic I think
so i turned it off
lol the "Make Superbowl Great Again" merchandise is already cropping up
Isn't that just from the pearl clutchers who don't like Spanish and think bad Bunny isn't an American
Besides, they had green day there, that would make the show worth it by themselves
we're talking about football.. this isn't soccer lol
like nascar.. you gotta think about the crowd when thinking of what goes and what dosen't
Look who is talking about it ...
that'll end well, I'm sure
When do the bets on how many devices will be in the device database by the April State Of The Open Home?
what do you mean?
it's not the impetus of every social institution to cater to the lowest common denominator, right
you cater to what brings you money
thats why I brought up nascar
if an event decides to do something the majority of your fans dislike.. then the outcome is quite obvious lol
by that logic, nobody would watch sports ever. there's always a fresh "controversy" that has "fans in an uproar" and yet sports is doing exceptionally well
btw, F1 is doing better than ever, and you see very little of that kind of pandering
I think people have too high an opinion of the worth of their opinions
don't compare an american sport to any other country.. that never meshes lol
why?
never has, don't think it ever will
it's just people
so are chess players
ok now I've lost you
don't see many in here getting all excited about those tournements
point is every activity has it's own circle
of course
just like i said, it's football not soccer
american football fans are kind of unique.. like nascar
right, but I"m not sure I'm following the chain of reasoning here. sports is sports, sports-watching people are just people
like, isn't there at least two "outrage-worthy" news pieces every Superb Owl? and yet, it continues
well yea.. thats why a lot of stuff about this years football has people saying they just changed the channel when half time started
well, they say that
but if the halftime dosen't retain viewers..
again, I think the outrage brigade think they speak for the majority. I'd call [citation needed] on that.
presumably, the network(s) know what's up
in this case i'm inclined the outrage is the majority
we shall see
150+ million watched it, most ever
only 150 million? it's over
less than half the country
pitiful
๐ถ
seriously though, I always wonder by what metric we can determine whether outrage is ever real
like, where do you go for trustworthy numbers?
back away slowly. There is nothing to be gained by involving yourself with them
sure as fuck not social media, your friend circle, news reporting
errybody just wants clicks
where did you pluck that number from? everything i've seen states they don't have difinitive numbers yet
NUMBERS, MASON
CBS says 135 million
I will say it is a new generation
Saw somewhere else 150
so who knows
Still nothing compared to actual football
don't think soccer in the US has as big of following
that could be changing too.. no idea
But the superbowl isn't viewed only in the US
eh true but really who watches our football outside the US?
for many years everyone else hears "footballs" and assumes a round ball
heh just saw there was an alternative show put on that had kid rock in it
And I hear kid rocks show was as terrible as he is
His concert festival already had to drop a show and has headliners leaving it all over the place
Yeah, he got other dirt bags to go with him, it's great they created a list of bands to not support
Lol, kid rock has given me plenty of reasons to hate
not any diffrent than any other
Sounds like you have low standards then
look at micheal jackson.. went from super stardom then hated for the whole kid thing and yet now he is making a comeback?
they always judge by the art, not by the person
and sorry to say but kid rock has released some catchy songs
I mean it came out that Michael Jackson was innocent of all that
oh so time heals all wounds?
maybe you should give kid rock a break and some time then lol
Nahhhh he doesn't deserve it
Or sarcastically, since MJ is coming back, I'll give him a break after he's dead
well it's ok if an artist isn't your piece of cake. your allowed
as a musican, I take personal offense to the existence of Kid Rock
Those are developer sections - I don't need to adjust those just yet.
i not even ever heard of this bad bunny till QF mentioned him, and even after that not heard of him since.. sure I turned it off after 3 minutes when I thought he was stroking out on the mic but who knows.. maybe his music isn't so bad
how is the transition to anti-add-ons going?
Does this mean it doesn't#matter ?
I'm looking one of those Shelly relays you put behind an outlet to monitor the poweron the line and make it a smart outlet. But I have 20amp outlets, all the ones I see are 16a or less. Anyone know if they make one for 20a outlets?
I wouldn't sweat it. unless you know for a fact you are tapping out that 20amps you are likely nowhere near it for normal stuff resdential people plug into outlets
I'll have a combination of power tools and 3d printers on the breaker
my house is 12guage on 20 amp breakers with 20 amp rated outlets and I run shellies just fine
Ok
the 3d printer will be fine.. the power tools will depend on what they are. do some maths
Im also considering just getting g one of the kits to plug into all my panel breakers. To monitor the while house
shelly does make a 25 amp relay but to buy all of those would be costly
Yea. I only was going to put the Shelly in the first outlet in the line for monitoring everything on the breaker. I care more about the monitoring than the smart feature for this case
I really wish there were breakers that provided power monitoring. That would be cool
Oh yea
I have iotawatt system sitting in a box because I just don't have room in the box for all the clamps
When I looked under the panel cover when I had my last breaker replaced, it looked like it had room. This panel was added maybe 6 years ago when we got solar
I am not sure I agree. cool...yes, useful...yes, mixing safety with smart...unsure...
I'm tempted to open the inside wall around the box and clamp onto the incoming wires instead
that is not a safety device.
no shit, you feed it after the breaker
its an inbox relay
i hope you dont feed it anything, its supposed to not eat stuff
Yea, but then this is what maybe 1/3 ish of the price of the ones that go in the panel to monitor everything. Lol. At that point I'd just consider the panel monitors
if all you care about is monitoring with no relay then yea.. plenty of clamp options out there for the panel
Can i supersize that?
I agree. Our habits are horrible
there is a 16 clamp one that can be reflashed to esphome
if id not want to spend the bucks on shelly, id get that
the shelly 3em-63t / 3em-63w are pretty space efficient. they are basically 3 ct clamps in one and sit right up against breakers. (maybe not US)
Why does Philips make it so hard to tell which bulbs are thread enabled
but its a bit of a tiny hands work
Any recommendations for a panel monitor that works well with home assistant?
now that question is going to get you yeeted to another dimension on this server
Links? I have a handful if esp home stuff
the 3em with the 50a one also is alright but the larger ones get sketchy to install
i am talking about this type.
the flashing part is a bit more involved
Oh? I'm not interested often. What's the issue? Because electrical work?
yea i know that one
i am semi temped to add some of these to my setup but I don't think its worth it currently. as potential for moving in the next 1-1.5 years is quite high so I am limiting most stuff to things thats easy to remove.
I should put my Apple TV 4K in a faraday cage so its thread network isnโt broadcasting any interference
i found that i never have enough space for those things
i ended up with teo 3em pros, one for the entire thing and then the second one split between washer, dryer and oven
everything else can be safely on plugs
Ooh yea. This is one of the 2 main options i saw when first looking into it.
I have 2 gen 1 ems in there with clamps on 4 circuits currently.
yea it kinda needs that flashing with the tiny probes
check out yt and see if youd be comfortable doing that
I'm ok with soldering small leads most of the time.
then this shouldnt be too big of an issue
K.
lots of times soldering isn't the preferred thing either
Thanks. Ill look into using this for my panel. I have an electrician friend that should be able to give me input too
True
all the cool kids use ferrules and crimps
Wago all the things
I wonder how hard the ferrule makers had to push that one
big ferrule is taking over
Ferrules are definitely great for stranded wires.
but not needed as many like to say
yeah that is probably fair, it is situational in a bunch of cases, but getting in the habbit of using them means that when you "should" be using them then you do it by default.
Confession time: I have never used a ferrule
but I don't use stranded cable too often, to be fair
I have only recently starting using them by default tbh and its definetly been an improvement in some situatiosn.
I am somewhat of a noodle soup expert though, but most often with solid core cable
i've only really ever seen them used on commercial applications for bigger gauge wire that is stranded
Extra spicy noodle soup
ugh i may need to buy a new psu for my dell server
why you showing us typical euro wiring?
That is what my colleagues thought an alarm system should look like
Just need to add broth for the spiciness to show up. Bonus points for the magic smoky notes
I thought they were intentionally mashed together so that the eletrical field generated outside each wire helped the other wires around it
No, the magnetic field was to suck in any bad guys when you arm the alarm
Low voltage sounds like mild to medium spicy tbh
only for people with no pride in their work.
He doesn't get paid by the hour lol
How to spell "anxiety" with no words
looks like the followed the diagram correctly
At least they're not all the same color
If you don't keep an eye out on the Events channel here, we've created a first-of-its-kind event - a regional digital meetup!
This one is a monthly meeting for Danish community members to hang out and chat the Thursday after release day. Not in Denmark or don't speak Danish? Don't worry! The host of the event says all are welcome (though you may not understand what's being said at first ๐ ).
Want to do something similar for your region or country? Post in #1469048177960419329 so you can chat more with Missy about getting your own setup.
A new one has been added!
How long until the new icon can get pushed to repos?
I think the community needs to know... how is the progress on the nightmare furby coming along? ๐
Stalled still, but we know how to move it along. Just...haven't.
Moving countries has taken precedence.
good. good.
No no, it's entirely too much sense and it's caused me a small amount of stress today no worries everything is fine it's all good
Have you looked into what vaccinations are required to bring it into Scotland?
we have already enough horrors beyond our comprehension in this world (why there is no breakfast past 10 in hotels)
might need a quarantine period
we dont need to worry about long furbies aswell
OMG I had no idea, hope that it is going/ has gone ok
lol the Furby is a gift to someone staying here in the US.
speaking of horrors....
They'll never forget (or is it forgive?) you
forgive and forget
thats the ai variant of this art
It has more to do with how much friendly rivalry they have with the swedish
I would say us american's need meetups but then we are in this channel every day lol
Great new is they sell prints: https://kyliwalls.threadless.com/designs/giant-fire-breathing-raccoon/home/fine-art-print
wait till they hear about right click save
It's....uh, well news we got today complicates things a little... ๐
start one with your deer friends outside
Oh no, she definitely wants this.
Her husband on the other hand....he may never forgive me. ๐
Aren't you in the UK?
those poor poor people
Luckily they don't know yet, I haven't told them
I don't think they would put up with me
bri'ish
ya cant raccoon here
Hey anyone with smart Rubik's cubes here? I'll be making an integration for all smart cubes and would need some testers. I only own giiker i3s
Does it cool water?
Welp, just sounds like you need to create your own meetup.
If you build it, they will come.
Also, would be cool to have more women hosting things.
It makes water turn into ICE cubes
"If you build it, they will come." aka deer feeder
Ever wonder why they don't make raccoon feeders?
every feeder is a raccoon feeder ๐ช
They are called trash cans
Here, the problem is usually with bird feeders. Not the issues you have of deer/squirrels/raccoons, but that a bird feeder designed for 30 gram birds really don't stand up to 600 gram parrots, when they decide that the feeder is for them
They are cute though
Anyone have any favorite 'showcase' blogs online that they like to get inspo from or see cool projects people are doing with ha?
YT channels are also welcome
Hello Discord is going to start requiring face id for accounts. Is there a different forum for following along?
you can peek through #1284960456880029707
what do you mean? you can always use https://community.home-assistant.io/
teen-by-default.. wtf lol
There is the Community Forum. Although as I understand it its not a "hard requirement" but your account may have limits without it. Missy is aware of concerns about this situation.
if my account is 11 years old wouldn't I auto be considered above the age of 13? lol
If they put limits on my account without it then I will just be seeing it as the removal of features. I am not engaging with it.
https://discord.com/press-releases/discord-launches-teen-by-default-settings-globally
go into effect for all account automaticaly
honestly it is about due for people to start jumping ship. these platforms never really last forever
just when @lone dagger put all this hard work into this server it's time for us all to bail
curious what the form submission alternative to face id is going to be like
Thank you all for all the hard word. I will be in the forums!
Eh don't really care about the features that get blocked
memes will be blurred
unless it's an image of big bird you won't see an image or video lol
every curse word will be changed to "gosh darnit"
must be some really dark servers on discord for it to get to this point
gosh darnit gosh darnit gosh darnit gosh darnit gosh darnit gosh darnit gosh darnit gosh darnit gosh darnit.
I must not be using the discover server feature good enough
some bullshit. who wants to host a teamspeak 6 server?
Nobody.
dont give discord your id
At least there are established alternatives/
Stoat is the chat app where you are the main character.
For validation no ID is needed. Your webcam footage can be used to identify as adult.
I'll pay a hobo 5 bucks to validate me
There are...
They don't care about the messed up servers, they care that several states are suing them directly before IPO.
This face ID BS is all reactionary
Inb4 they got sued by EU because they broke privacy laws
I have about 5 other platforms slated to be investigated as a replacement. This decision by Discord has accelerated those plans.
Eager to hear the results, several of us who run other communities would likely follow
This is shaping up to be a massive self-own by Discord
there are 5 other platforms that offer real time chat at this scale?
A small group makes it hard for the lawyers, then they punish the rest of us.
Haha I have a couple other servers looking to see what I do, too. We have a very large server (but data actually indicates a relatively low regular activity).
.....yes and no.
All 5? No.
3? Probably for sure.
should just implement a live chat system into the community forums in all honesty
It is implemented.
There is one.
ok non only private chats lol
hell my sc2 php3 board has a live chat all local driven
so more up to date options have to be far better
if only i wasn't too old. i'd be on top of all of this
anyone using the UGREEN NASync DXP4800 Plus?
600 bucks for a 4 bay nas seems rather steep but i may have to go this direction
just build something instead.
I have my dell still chugging along but really dislike swapping the drives
not that I have to do it often but still
like to offload plex and the nas part to something with hotswappable drives and leave the dell to just run frigate
Coworker had a ugreen and hated it until I installed Openmediavault for him. Now it's just another computer with spinning rust
yea but least you can do it with this
I singled this one out cause of price to performance was more in line.. as much can be with the inflated pricing
If you like the formfactor and got the money, just go for it. It's definitely the least headache you can buy in that space imo
thing was only 400 bucks when it hit kickstarter but that was over a year ago
If you like that shoebox form factor, I think this one would probably be my choice:
https://store.minisforum.com/products/minisforum-n5-air-ai-nas
Though if you want it for Plex, transcoding on AMD is a bit naff compared to Intel QSV which JustWorksโข
Given how little power it consumes, I really wish Intel would put just the QSV engine onto an M.2 card so you could put one into any machine
that thing is 500 and comes with no memory
oh sorry it has onboard 16MB cache lol
Yeah I know, but $600 with 8GB vs $500 empty (and 2x8GB is $150 on Amazon) isn't a world apart
And it has 5x 3.5" + 3x M.2 vs 4x 3.5" + 2x M.2 on the Ugreen
really wish my dell esata supported port multiplying. would make this a much cheaper adventure lol
that one is not the 500 model, that is 629 without memory
You don't get the on-sale price?
I forgot to delete all the frigate videos off this failing drive before rsyncing it to a diffrent drive. hating life atm
All the smart bulbs use pwm??
eh?

Change all the switches to these when I am in the house on my own and then await the chaos when people return.
Personally I like zigbee, but each has thier advantages and disadvantages
Dumb bulbs, smart switches
Depends if you like colors
color is overrated
My kitchen is all smart switches
I can also accept the "smart bulbs + smart switches" answer
switches are key, though
that is so stupid but yet has it's uses
smart bulb on a smart switch on a smart breaker
I have a smart bulb in my rangehood. I had a spare, and it takes full-size B22 bulbs, so why not have green light while cooking?
i can just go insane and install ketra lights
Chaotic answer: zwave switch with zigbee bulb
that might interfere with thread though im not sure
i think ketra lights work out to like $300/bulb though
Does the smart relay get installed at the smart switch or the smart bulb?
Totally depends on your wiring.
WiFi breaker connected to z-wave switch in front of zigbee relay controlling a thread bulb. I like it
Bah. there are many device choices for voice assist endpoint software and none of them tickle my fancy.
at the switch, if you are talking about a relay like a shelly you would utilize the switch inputs
I have a shelly 2pm connected to a double switch where one feeds my porch lights and the other the outdoor plug i use for holiday lights
both have a dumb switch so I can control them via that
works good for holidays like Halloween when I turn off my porch lights at diffrent times depending on kid foot traffic
not always though. sometimes the switches only have a loop to them and the main circuit is at the light.
true
hate to have that house wiring tbh
yeah, it depends on the age of your wiring in most cases.
Or how โhandyโ the previous owners were
I am that house wiring. I am also the house wiring that has the bathroom and kitchen connected, no GFCI, and on a split neutral with the bedroom outlets.

Hair dryer and microwave at the same time will blow up the house.
yea that kind of wiring was pretty typical for homes built in the early 70's and earlier
a single breaker would have like odd rooms all tied together
Every part of that explanation is terrifying...
in those days in the US breaker boxes were typically only 100amp or less with like only a dozen breaker slots so electricians had to balance things
Is there a place on this server where you can casually ask questions without it being something so formal as to be a thread on it's own?
Is it a question about raccoons?
I wish, but sadly no.
I do have a special clip on my compost bin so racoons don't open it though.
The Europeans are asleep so maybe you can be super sneaky and pretend itโs a question about raccoons. Theyโll never know
Nah, I'll respect their latent wishes

Ugh to automate this stupid light with the stupid no neutral loop I either get to spend 100 on a switch and relay, or dig out the presumed location of the hidden junction and still need to spend almost that much on parts

has anyone had much success with multi room audio? looking at quite a few options and unsure of the best route to go
I am stuck in the sonos walled garden
paging Mr @tidal bronze , paging Mr @tidal bronze
but it worsk
I want to help but I think my setup is little too complicated.
I do have wired speakers in all zones and Chrome Cast Audio driving QSC amps in each zone.
not sure "little" is the right word
i'm at the very beginning and weighing the benefits of going multi-zone receiver vs multiple pi's running squeezelite or something like that. running wire isn't an issue and something i was planning on anyways
if i were to go multiple pi's (at least 5), they'd all be housed in my network closet regardless
just looking for something stable and easy to integrate into home assistant
and obviously looking at all the in between with arylic, wiim, etc amps
not a bad idea. I just love CCA groups. With music assistant supporting gapless and now smart fade it works flawlessly.
Syncing zones is the hardest part of the game depending how large the area after fine tuning I have got it dialed in.
yeah, the key features i'm looking for outside of stability/integration is zone syncing as well as playing simultaneous streams to different zones.
the sync aspect is important as i have somewhat of an open floorplan between living room, kitchen, and sunroom, semi-separated by a fireplace in the middle.
CCA supports fine tuning, metronome and running around a lot ๐
just hire someone to follow you around with a boombox
LMAO. The new music assistant player has beta auto syncing but that really does not work with Space vs distance delay.
so, i'm still on the shallows of my deep dive into this, but was trying to look up CCA. all i could find is chromecast audio, but figured you were talking about something else?
It is but they are discontinued. I run about 19 of them
Hopefully it will run for few more years.
haha, i juuust noticed your profile picture
Hey I have one of those, I should sell it to someone who'll actually use it
It's basically never been used
does the cca just plug into a dumb speaker and make it smart?
Dang
Yep. when you add AMP
Yeah imma sell that little paper weight
I never jumped to it since I didn't want Google to cancel it out from underneath me
They still get updates. I go on craigslist, FB marketplace to find them at least once a week,
Sellers don't know how valuable they are
aside from being ready-for-purchase, it sounds comparable to running squeezelite on pi+amp to power passive speakers (in ceiling in my case)
I have no experience in pi for multiroom applications. Only 1 pi in my pipe to cast Vinyl to chrome cast
okay, so that's on my list of rabbit holes to go down. is vinyl an app, or are you talking about an actual record player?
Actual player.
that's great to hear. i wasn't even sure that was a possibility, but it's something i intend to look into
Vinyl > Ice Cast > Music Assistant Radio Source > Chomecast Audio Groups
Obviously vinyl was never meant to be AD converted but there are times, it's cool to play vinyl throughout the house ๐
to be fair, i'm not a huge audiophile. i'll sacrifice some quality for convenience when it comes to audio
8 track or bust
i'll run it by the wife
As far as AVR, it's 4 zone and I use 3 x CCA for zones 2, 4 and 4. They also drive external QSC AMPS and handle outddor subs, 8" and 6" rocks.
I just like the Yamaha App to control volume when outside.
any reason you prefer that over music assistant integration?
i have music assistant setup currently, but not utilizing it's potential for multi room audio - just tv's etc for testing at this point - but it seems to be working pretty well. we'll see what happens when i throw 5-7 pi's at it i suppose.
is terminal app broken on 26.2?
70 bucks for an oil change and inspection!? Bah humbug
Hmmm do it yourself?
I do full synthetic and filter for 35-40 ish for the jeeps

I do it with my Sonos speakers; turnable goes into a "connect" on the line in, have a speaker in every room to output on. Screw the purists, do what makes you happy
Wifi Speakers in rooms architecture doesn't work for me.
Used sonos long time ago. They are good for what they are
I bought all of mine between 12 and 6 years ago, all still going strong
Not about reliability, couldn't scale to my needs.
QF with his 20 beds home
I need to take a look at that new OHF synced-audio protocol thing though
Yeah that's entirely fair, they do some pretty kooky things with networking so huge setups definitely are hard-wired propositions.
I've only got 8 total devices, the ones around the TV are hard wired and the bedroom/office ones are wireless
Huuuuuh... Texas Instruments is buying Silicon Labs. Wonder what effect that'll have on Z-Wave.
<@&330946878646517761> got a twofer
it will make it worse
Gone
That's my concern, but I have to wonder how.
z-wave support in calculators
based on a brief chat with al calzone the zwave js maintainer he wasnt hopeful as far as expecting things to get better from the perspective of the developers interacting with ti vs si labs
i think for end users we wont notice much
Literally the second person I've seen mention this exact curiosity about Z-Wave.
but all of our zigbee and zwave chips are made by either si labs or ti so just from the perspective of less competition is worse it be like that
*today
Something something two nickels
I mean, they just emailed everyone with a SL account about it, so that's not surprising.
in theory they could make a better functioning si labs toolkit but i'm guessing the more likely scenario is they'll sundown the si labs tools and lay people off.. but i'm a realist
we should all pool some money and buy TI
you mean, reduce the workforce while increasing the output with the magic of AI?
That bubble can't pop fast enough.
links article where wemo admits they just have indians driving the cars remotely not ai
Yeaaaah, that one is going to bite them in the ass too.
I was trying to remember whether this is the third or fourth major instance of "Actually Interns" that we've seen from a large company pretending to be doing things with computers but not actually

well now we have ai or will soon have ai that can actually do good enough to replace warm bodies
it will just get worse

all the protocols just got worse

I locked an alpstuga in my networking closet and closed the door
Is this a crime against smart devices
If it gets above 90 Iโll call an HVAC guy to see what he recommends about ventilating the closet
My ATT bypass ONT is killing me
And the 10 gigabit Intel NIC
Arenโt electronics often listed to 40 or 50C, which would be 104-122F?
My router states 0-40C
Pffft back in my day we ran our GPUs at boiling point
I still fondly remember my old UPS screaming in agony when running big GPU compute above its rated wattage
How much is in your networking closet? Could you just install a louvered door or a vent?
Iโve seen wall pass-through vents with sound reducing baffles too
Under 200W so probably yeah
And thatโs only because itโs powering access points with PoE
I canโt remember the company name but I looked into powered fans meant for this sort of situation
Yeah I think something just pulling in ambient and another to vent would be fine
An HVAC return is immediately outside of the closet so thereโs a lot of airflow there
My network closet under the stairs has a big gap under the door, so I just slapped two computer fans into a cardboard wedge thing and stuck it against the door. It pulls in enough to reduce it a bit, with static pressure pushing the rest back out
I should probably add a dust filter but itโs also next to a big air filter so whatever
Did it scratch at the door wanting to get out?
AC Infinity?
Who also sell a lot of products for... well let's just call it "indoor hydroponic gardening"
hur hur you said ponic
Yeah thatโs the one. No clue as to quality or, uh, intended usage of other products
So I bought backed a new toy and now I need to think of justifications ideas for how to abuse it.
Though I guess I have until (optimally) September
I was a bit sad when that step off the concrete was level with the ground. I was kinda hoping he'd roll off the edge.
But yes, adorable.
still not a lot of devices
is there an easy way to check if my PSU is giving enough watts to all my slots?
i have a 750W PSU and i don't know if it's enough for all my HDD's, GPU, CPU fans RGB etc.. lol
everything works...but they say to add accounting for 20% additional overhead
Check every component TDP/Powerdraw and add them up
like is there an app to show available watts for PSU? or do i just use Hwinfo64 to check powerdraw
HWinfo is a good start showing you the two biggest consumers
HDDs are like 10W max
Considering you've got a 750W PSU you're most likely fine unless you run a 5090 etc.
Making the hardest home automation decisions rn
Like the area icon to use for a hallway
High stakes stuff
Is there a doormat?
Mmmmm
Hmm I wonder if I should move the NUT server itself to opnsense
I mean I guess it doesnโt really matter
I should also check how much home assistant stuff can actually cleanly start up with the router at the same time
No. Those aren't apps from that repository.
I don't think they provide support for random apps.
If it works you have enough watts, if it doesn't work it might not have enough watts
I have my NUT server on my opnsense
The way the integration works I guess I still would need to use the NUT addon/app and just set it in client mode to get the shutdown command
More than likely
I think a hassio.host_shutdown action triggered by an automation might work as well.
Triggered by hassio.host_startup
Is it me or is thread absolute trash? so many issues getting it to work
zigbee and zwave are painless
forced to use a google workflow that just never works, no control over what network it is trying to join, etc
not that it ever actually joins any network without a billion attempts
Idk what you mean I donโt do any stuff with Google
guess you are apple ๐
the home assistant flow on android redirects you to what is a google home workflow, you can't pair without a phone, etc
there is a "developer mode" way of pairing with a bluetooth dongle on HA, which is how I have anything connected, but it doesn't work for stuff outside of bluetooth range of the server
No I just have a zbt-2 as my only border router that I use
as do i
but when you use the HA app, that screen you get where it scans the qr code, goes connecting to device, then the spinning crap, is google home
It even says "powered by google" at the bottom
This screen is google
There is no support in this channel though.
If you need/want help, #1284966617670881350 with the "Matter" tag would be the place to go.

ok i fixed thread and have now realised it was possibly my fault.
I knew it depended on IPv6 but thought that was on the thread network side, the whole point was that OTBR did NAT64.
I didn't realise it needed IPv6 on the provisioning side between phone and home assistant.
IPv6 was turned off on Home Assistant because it is a witches spell and we don't do that here.
I think the ipv6 bit will end up biting me in the ass too
I like ipv6 in theory, but my Orbi shits the bed when I enable it. Starts cycling it on and off randomly, causing connection issues on devices in the process. And usually I can only actually reach ipv6 net for about a minute before it starts that crap.
I need a new mesh router.
It feels like ipv6 was made poorly by ipv7 to sell more ip
Big IP
Not to be confused with Atx, big PP
Don't let big thread hear you, you will disappear and never be heard from again
Big thread, aka "rope"

Are lithium AA batteries good?
They're higher capacity and have a wider operating temp range than alkaline, but they're also more expensive
I do not recommend to eat them. That can be dangerous.
so yummy tho
LithiYUM amirite
got just the right bite to โem
You are the reason we have legal warnings aren't you
No
there has to be a reason that they're shaped like you esophagus
oh you're talking about lithium ion
No clue about those. I've only ever used NiMH rechargeable double and triple screams
Lithium polymer is much tastier?
ooooooo I found cheaper ones on aliexpress
For starters, I would assume that capacity figure is a lie. Typical AA ("14500") size NMC/NCAs are around 0.8Ah @ 3.6V, there's zero chance that including the 3.6->1.5V circuitry they're putting 1Ah cells in there.
As a concept, those 1.5V output AAs are pretty decent for anything medium-to-high drain that wants consistent power output. Not sure I'd bother for any low-drain device.
So depending on what you're planning to put them in... maybe
These look pretty good? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008942726141.html

As cool as this was I can't take any of this seriously after the last time they did the same with the Thunderbolt connectors vs USB charging cable. Wouldn't have expected such sell-out BS from Adam
hurdur, the pins aren't even connected. You don't say????
Lithium AAs excel at handling high and low temperatures and last much longer than common chemistries without notable voltage sag. I use them in my weather station outside. I'd only recommend them in temperature-stressed applications or in devices that are a pain to replace batteries in frequently. IoT sensors in attics and such would be a good application.
Also, do not confuse Lithium (LiFeS2) and Lithium Ion (various chemistries). The former are not rechargeable, but have the same voltage as normal AAs (~1.5v). The latter are rechargeable but at -lowest- are 2.6v nominal (LiFePo) and most will be closer to 3.2-3.6. I wouldn't mess with the rechargeable ones. Too many potential points of failure and failure is violent.
LiFeS2 can be up to 3.2Ah or so in a AA package. They're pretty nutty.
And doesn't require any circuitry to step down voltage. It should be nominal 1.5v.
Went looking out of curiosity. Looks like it can be closer to 3.6Ah. Check page 5 here:
https://studylib.net/doc/18211960/lithium----l91-l92----energizer-technical-information
It wasnโt his research and the report cited speaks for itself.
Ew... I just read back and realized he was indeed talking about LiIon AAs. Noooooope.
This video seemed cool like I said, but since I don't know anything about these batteries or how worried I should be, the previous video hurts their point quite a bit
When it comes to 18650s, I trust Mooch's information on them. Think he stopped posting back in 2018 or so, but the info is still solid.
Tl;Dr: There are only like... Four brands you should even consider, the rest are dangerously bullshit ratings and rewraps generally.
Sony, Samsung, Molicel, Panasonic... Am I forgetting any?
I looked into building another e-bike just recently and one of the big price differences is Chinese brand batteries vs Samsung/LG. But the data seems to be lacking on how much it is about capacity and how much is actually about safety
