But i just noticed you now miss that redundancy feature for no reason
xD
and another point of failure
nah i dont think so
i dont have any ups keep in mind
so if power goes outim cooked either way
Its something that can break, poe injectors are way less efficient and less developed over most switches
doesnt really matter if its a poe injector or not
its made by unify tho
so like
i mean anything can break
the switch itself can break
or get stuck in rommon
Eh you do you xD i couldnt care less hehe
But if the switch breaks, you lose the poe too
so the poe is extra chance of something to break over the chance already existing
my brain is kinda set to redundancy and as little point of failures.
ill stock up on poe injectors lol
xD
whenever i try to load syslogs on the pfsense ui, it pegs my cpu
and it has 4x threads on a gold 6132
just great 😄
Hahaha smooth
logs are a pain
i dont think anything can convice me to open ports across zones for syslogs and netflow
Thats why i always end up running a dedicated syslog server
why
sooooo
i want to respect my zones
i dont even want to allow syslogs or netflow pinhole rules across my domain controller zones
im running a multi forest with strict no trust
pfsense can forward logs to my trusted mgmt zone using static routing so thats good, but ill need a seperate log server for my untrusted zone
but, its what you are kinda looking for
Or if you do not want to aggregate the data, you can run multiple dockers
why no ova for lazy people
Also, communication from the graylog nodes to the data node is tls encrypted, why worry.
Eh i use proxmox
lvm is just as easy, but i dont mind dockers
This is what we use in our environment, its pretty robust
I run a single instance that is both the collector and data node together at home
I only need logs from 2 vlans, graylog has a paw in each network which works for me since they are both already secured vlans
Besides its udp syslog, not that big of a hole to poke.
holdup i think package syslog-ng on pfsense is what i need
also nice
Crippled by choices with NAS and NVR and RAM prices 😔
Kind of surprised the unifi ecosystem distinguishes between a NVR and a NAS
Still forever annoyed by their refusal to allow self-hosting the NVR
It's probably a balance between them wanting to sell stuff and also them wanting to guarantee a certain hardware quality and not deal with stupid support requests.
They end up with bad reviews and support requests from someone who is trying to run off a jbod array of 100 sdcards from 2003 that they found in the back of a stockroom.
Go on...
As you say, a balance. But it is the kind of thing that prevents a lot of people from being able to use their products, where they might otherwise be suitable
yeah, I don't disagree, but they have their target market I guess.
Doesn’t explain why they don’t let you use their own NAS still though 🙂
That seems only the sell stuff bucket
Yeah that is probably a fair enough point.
oh no... that was an example of what not to do. lets not use it as a springboard to do it. I do not want to be blamed for this.
I kind of want to get a Mac mini to play with frigate and then use an off the shelf NAS like UNAS or something, but I’d also rather just run Ubuntu or something
macOS is cringe
It supports the m chip gpu making it afaict the cheapest very high performance inference platform @split acorn
Lower performance you can stay on CPU and such
We need to go deeper.
Alternatively, combine yours with this.
That's 200 MicroSD cards right there.
very high performance?
are we suuuureeee
According to the frigate wiki at least
They have it with their highest inference speed tier
I ain’t sure about shit I don’t own it
Coral TPu's also good if you can slot one..
they just say what they recommend instead
where I got the screenshot ^
I imagine it's because Google has basically abandoned it
moreso that other stuff has caught up I imagine.
I mean its still gonna be the top for power efficiency I would presume tho
I was just looking at whether I should switch to openvino and the links I found suggested against it. Maybe I'll look again
I don't really have any issues with my coral 🤷
I don't either, but I've had to fiddle with it after every Debian upgrade which is annoying but not exactly a huge deal given the update cycle lol
I just tdon’t really want to build my own pc rn given component prices
🤷♂️
such is shit right now
until someone puts sam altman's head on a pike.
Or rips his spine out predator-like
I am so happy that i built a new desktop 3 months ago. just in time...
although my plans to update the homelab setup have been put on hold...
yeah in this case it’s like, limiting the PCs I want for frigate and NVR/NAS
the unifi NAS hardware seems nice, although it’s baffling it can’t be used in their NVR ecosystem I figure maybe I just use it as NAS in my own NVR system since I likely wouldn’t use their cam ecosystem anyway
yeah my plan was to move my storage array setup to a new system.
scrypted or frigate or something
I kinda want to get a M4 Mac Mini for local LLMs, think that’s on hold now
Apple used to have a 24gb unified ram refurb listing for $679
it’s insane that a unifi nas is competitive in cost effectiveness to some custom builds but that’s the world we’re in rn
ya I was looking at mac mini for frigate or scrypted maybe, to separately connect to a NAS
Looks like the one I was eying is now $849 on Apple’s refurb site
too much for me to justify
I could hardly justify $679 I feel like
Wish there was some cheaper alternatives other than just buying a GPU
when I think about buying a GPU, and then also buying the rest of the entire system
and then with frigate not recommending the google coral anymore and their iGPU systems performing worse than just the apple one
despite being more expensive
but I really don’t want to run macos
I already have a mini PC I could theoretically use with an M.2 to Oculink adapter, the Mac mini would just be nice since I could also run things like Piper and TTS on it with better performance
it’s nothing even against macos in particular I just want to run a headless os
yeah I feel ya
There was a Linux under development for M series a while ago
think it’s stuck on M2 right now- Asahi Linux I think is the name
almost like trying to put linux on a platform by an openly hostile mfr is hard.
The Mac mini also apparently only pulls like 5W under load which is incredibly appealing [ EDITED ]
The Mac mini also apparently only pulls like 5W under load (or maybe it was idle- probably) which is incredibly appealing
yeah I think m2 works and m3 is semi working in a dev branch. but m4 will be a bit more painful.
It’s not really even that, it’s just that Apple has an ARM architecture on their stuff now which makes it harder
older Macs can easily be wiped and used on a different OS
oh yes, because arm is very very very rare and apple is the only one--
... wait no that's nonsense.
🙃
so its not actually as hostile as you would think
They’re the only ones with great efficiency and battery life 🙃

In this talk, you will learn how Apple Silicon hardware differs from regular laptops or desktops.
We'll cover how we reverse engineered the hardware without staring at disassembly but by using a thin hypervisor that traces all MMIO access and then wrote Linux drivers.
We'll also talk about how upstreaming to the Linux kernel works and how we've ...
recent talk on the subject.
i have the gist from the past.
didn't the lead of that step down last year because of toxicity in the linux scene?
Hopefully eventually Microsoft partners and announces a new version of Bootcamp.. Apple I think has publicly even said that Microsoft can if they want to
something like that.
does it involve AI slop?
and you got the companys name wrong there bruh
Its Microslop
get it right.
It’s still a step forward.
I don’t like windows much either to be clear
If you can dual boot into windows ARM, ARM linux distros wouldn’t be too hard to port at that point I’d imagine
I dislike apple completely but to be fair the m4 mini is great cost efficiency for the computing power. obviously it gets ruined if you dare try to upgrade from the base spec...
ah apple.
the company that charges more by weight for their SSD/RAM upgrades than literal gold.
Yeah definitely, I’m not a huge Mac fanboy either. I have one and honestly prefer my windows laptop (had power management issues on Linux- otherwise I’d daily it)
That base-spec M4 mini definitely ain't bad... if you can live with 16GB/256GB
the killer thing about the M series Macs is the ram is unified
Mind you current circumstances are making even Apple's upgrade prices look reasonable
the thing that strix halo can also do? 🤷♂️
Though that doesn't bode well for what happens once their stockpile of M4 models runs out and they re-evaluate for M5
not just that its unified but the actual interface of the unified memory. the memory bus is pretty outstanding to be fair.
the apple eat shit price ontop of the current circumstances? oh that'll be fun for fanboys.. 😛
That seems to be a brand new product to be fair
Apple has been doing it for years now
Newer, certainly, but still a year old
Yeah looked it up
I did consider that maybe when the m5 mini arrives some used m4 minis might appear for a good deal. but then I remember that apple fanboys think that they hold their complete value for like 15 years.
Apple stuff retains value (unfortunately and fortunately)
I've got one of the Ryzen AI machines (HP ZBook 14, with the top-end 395 model), is a pretty nice machine
that phone is from 2020
that is the issue
Whats that?
apple has a high margin (45-60%?) and manages to make things stay absurdly expensive for long times by wanking off their brand?
I think phones are a bit of a different category.
just in general though
some of their stuff is still crazy expensive even used
from years ago
again. because fanboys will gargle that corporate cock and keep the prices up.
realistically? shit should drop
the only company that gets more fanboys going down on it; is Tesla
That makes me wonder how much an older Mac Pro is
at least we have finally stop hearing "but macs are designed for media editing" which was semi true in the "power pc" era. but hasnt been true since 2005
if this is DDR4 memory, I wonder how much you can sell the ram alone for
because limited amount of people wanting it.
either way, its server cpus; so its ECC or whatever.
DDR4 ECC it looks like
The new cheesegrater is DDR4. Xeon W-31xx series CPUs I think?
So DDR4-2666 or 2933 RDIMMs
The number of those kind of DIMMs I have sitting in a box at work that I wish I could do something about
I think there are 1250x 32GB DIMMs, from old Dell servers
I think the resale values probably fairly limited relatively speaking..
outside of.. speciaty uses
like; I think I saw a ServeTheHome or something video on new bus-attached cards that are basically just stacking fucktons of ram in em in oolder gen stuff to expand PCIe5 stuff and things with fancy cards with the shortage but?
CXL?
yeah over CXL
I also need to decide between frigate and scrypted if I don’t want to bother with too much maintenance
I mean technically you can run one through the other
but.. here';s a way to reduce that
do you want to pay monthly fees to have a DVR function? 😄
(that scales up depending on your camera count.)
https://github.com/wez/govee2mqtt
Last I checked.. still works on soomeones house I poke about with hass..
alright thanks
what’s the typical parent? scrypted?
scrypted has a nicer camera-adding-interface as far as I know (unless frigate changed significantly recently?)
data: >-
A small, elongated mammal, possibly a weasel or mink, is seen moving across
the driveway.
thanks gemini
Frigate is still text based
unfortunately
Which also means you need to restart for every single change if im correct.
holy crap the 5G max from ubiquity is expensive lol
in other news, water is wet
yeah but in my mind it was 350 but that is before VAT
the video I posted yesterday saying it was decoy shows the guy using those hub mini's at 130something a pop as a simple relay
who the fuck spends 130 for a relay?
Is this something like always round to full numbers? For batteries it feels like rounding them always to 3V is a bit stupid.
Just looked, current EBITDA margin is 34.7%
91% unlevered conversion
Anyway the biggest barrier for me pulling a trigger on a Mac mini is I’d really rather a headless Linux machine
Maybe if Apple had a more user forward headless-first experience
guess what that's literally everyone now,
idk if this is allowed, but what's everyone's favorite local LLM for voice assistant?
Or #1284966915055288530 for support.
where can i ask a question about wifi that is more offtopic than home assistant?
I'd recommend the off-topic channel #the-water-cooler 🙂
so i am in it lol
As long as it does not involve support in any kind or form.
But I guess, #the-workshop would be better.
so you know how netflix if you are away to your wifi for too long it will see it and say watch temporarily and then it will loc you out. any suggestions for basically making the hose devices say that they are on the same wifi for a bit so that i can start watching again?
the main thing is i dont understand if theres a main device that also has to be on that wifi as netflix calls it household device, or if the device lock out just needs to connect to the home wifi.
Never had any Netflix logout issues.
its a feature, for example, we live in the usa, but my brother lives in barcelona, so he never at our homes, and netflix after using the same account will see this and lock you out
Maybe naming the WiFis in the same way is enough to trick the system. But I assume Netflix has more refined methods.
example found on google
Creating a new account and subscription would solve it.
yes! think about those poor shareholders
ngl Jellyfin never complains about me not being at home
bruh.
nah, uses ip and stuff
Hey maybe you can use klarna to get another account
klarna? whats that
Can't really find a proper channel for it. But anyone has a issue with climate controll? I have multiple intergrattions with climate control that are broken all at the same time

if there was ever a clearer example of rent-seeking, I don't know wtf it would be. printer ink?
i mean you can be a net negative but i’d rather describe these services as a cancer. They really damage society
printer ink doesn’t extort people
or people who are financially struggling
devils advocate; DRM protects IP so that really depends on the why and how
no I mean like, HP ink cartridge DRM
oh yeah it’s stupid but i don’t need an HP printer to live
this is fair
doesn’t mean i agree with DRM on ink btw
nah I figured
I have made it this far without owning a printer, btw, but having a kid in the middle school years certainly is taxing the "can I just e-mail you guys" quota
i haven’t owed a printer since like 2005
lmao same. just thundercunt it across the room
hahaha
btw, I realized belatedly that "printer loaded gun" might put me on some watchlists

What is the strategy for smart switches on circuits that control smart bulbs
You buy smart switches with smart bulb mode and benefit from both
Any recs?
If you have fuck you money buy inovelli blue switches and hue bulbs (both zigbee) paired to either z2m or zha. If you don’t, then zooz zwave switches are a lot cheaper but then you’re dependent on home assistant to always be on for light switches to work
Do they have 2 gang switches?
With the inovelli+hue zigbee approach you can bind switches to bulbs 💡 instead of using home assistant automations
They sell 1 gang switches you just use multiple
Makes sense
If you have LIFX bulbs, the LIFX Switch is a Matter controller and can control Matter-enabled LIFX bulbs directly/locally. Also, word from LIFX is they will be enabling Thread support for a bunch of their Matter-over-WiFi devices later this year, but obviously I can't guarantee that bit.
Are LG TVs still the more recommended route to go with for decent HA integration?
I've got to move and am debating on selling my TCL Series 5 instead of packing it.
Mine "just works" (OLED C3) but I don't really do a lot via the integration besides turn it on/off and use its power state to trigger things like bias lighting.
Yeah all I care about is on/off and switch inputs.
can confirm this was straightforward for my 10 yo LG, once I got the wake-on-LAN working. it required going into the service menu, I've forgotten how I did it but there was some Windows app involved
iirc, you do two things: enable wake-on-lan and suss out the MAC address of the TV
I'm on hue rn but I'm buying more bulbs and I think I'm gonna go with a diff vendor
Kinda thinking ikea but idk
good day to all 🙂
hoihoi
yes, yes I know 🙂 a newbie - and yes I do not know where to start - can someone take me by the hand maybe? please? I know I should create a topic or post ...
most likely to energy dashboard - and if that is not too much to ask how to avoid having more and more apps, instead of one 🙂 - and thank you 😄
@noDNS - no problem - i am used to be shouted at ;-D
sorry for disturbing - better be off - btw looked into the ikea stuff and it does not seem to be ripe now if Sam2G was referring to the new devices
enjoy you evening/day 👋
I just installed HA 2026.1.2 that runs in a container on my Pi5. I've also installed Node-RED in its own container and added the HA pallette.
How can I install HACS in HA so I can then install the Node-Red Companion integration?
(I've got all this setup in HA 2025.10, but something's changed in the last few months.)

Hey guys, just wanted to share what i managed to make recently, to have Voice PE to output its TTS to an external media player
Please use #1284960456880029707 for this.
ok thx, was looking for something like that
I used (because I haven't got around to running a cable to it in new house, only been 4 years...) WoL on my G6 (2016 model) without issue, great solution
yeah it's really neat. like, on/off and input selection really is 99% of what I need from a 'smart' TV. the only improvement would be a built-in adblock but pfft as if
???
I forgot to reply to the original message ;-; but I am still salty about the missing brick
yeah so im just finding that these echo atom s3r are bit harder to build in esphome
honestly all these esp32 devices are hard to build in esphome
even tho gemini is good at yaml
i just need simple voice satellite here lmao
if it's an android/google tv, my TCL Google TV works perfectly with HA
I wish I went with a Google TV for my TCL. I accidentally updated my Ruku one and started getting banner ads everywhere.
I'm moving but I don't know where to yet, so I figured this would be a good opportunity to sell the thing.
I find the most outlandish ways to avoid chores and my actual to do list. Computed my furnace gas consumption rate and then used my ecobee heat on sensor to extrapolate a ballpark gas usage.
You can disable these with a hidden menu I believe, but I do agree- I hate Roku lol. I'd probably keep it though because you probably won't sell it for much.
Not sure how well it will integrate with home assistant, but I should definately add one of these to my setup
That isn't a raccoon
I mean it's cute, don't get me wrong
But the animal rights people might get up in arms if you paint it with black and grey stripes
this C.A.F.E. integration is pretty neat. is there a place to chat about it I have a few questions about how delay vs wait for or how I can check the change state before going to the next step.
If you mean using the integration's stuff in automations: #1284980040940912641
yea I don't know if this is an automation issue or how C.A.F.E. works.
nabucasa is based in US, right? is there any option for an EU based subsidiary?
yo who uses echo atom s3r for voice satellites. they are the best voice satellite device so like surely they are common?!?!?
they got the best wakeword listening of any esp32 device.
do i post in configuration or hardware?
i need some yaml to get it on the network and running as a voice satellite
Should I ditch the free space from the pie chart?
no im asking if its hardware or config
for esp32 builder
This is also not the right channel for that. #find-support points to the right ones.
too much channel too hard
Oh dear gods, it's a real scammer. I thought it was satire at first.

Anyone make an agent skill that knows how to configure automations? I'd really like to just talk to AI, maybe even have it ask me questions about what i want the automation to do, and have it configure the automation for me. https://agentskills.io/home
I spent a whole night digging through the secret menus and was unable to do it. I hated life afterwards.
If anyone is in the Chicago area, I've got a TV with banner ads for sale.
the Telly?
return to company that made it with stink bomb inside.
If I could return it I would.
Roku is such a dogshit company anyways.. I used to have one.. until they just,.. never fixed HDCP handshake errors taht would cause sporadic blackscreen fluttering on a 4k set. 🤷♂️
@forest edge wanna go swimming?
Use Gemini CLI or Antigravity. CLI is far superior
thats what i'm talking about. A skill to use in claude code, open code etc CLI that describes to LLM how to build automations/search devices, entities to use in automations etc
Add HA MCP to CLI and it's gravy all day
oh i didn't even realize HA had a MCP. ill have to check that out
Pull entities, what if scenarios pulling sensor last updated times, did I mess up etc. Possibilities are endless
Small tip, dicuss 1st before implementing code change. Write that into .MD before anything
nah this is a slop'er we're talking about. deploy straight to production on a friday evening; full database access! /s
Lol. There's very little help I need at this stage of my HA life but it's interesting to get Gemini perspective of my logic from decade ago. Adjusting timers, fine tuning temperature offsets etc is what I do now. Gemini sessions, make rollback a breeze
rollbacks? that implies you have backups
Even I don't remember 489 automations, I am so thankful that Gemini CLI exists
thats not proper slop
EXSI snapshots on Synology, yep no I am not worried 😁
are you not paying vmware for that? taht sounds like you should be paying for enterprise features

Been on ESXI for ages.
ESXi is still too usable without forking over money.
they will be issuing updates to fix this.
You mean peace of mind?
no its unacceptable to their profit margins that you're using it without problems; without paying them
its the same with nintendo if a fan dares to.. show passion for their games and try and do an event with it.

I can’t be the only one who was excited after installing their first smart switch and toggled it until lights went into pairing mode right?
I do remember being excited about having motion sensors giving dumb useless statistics without enough smart things to control.

just gotta say home assistant is one heck of a awesome project
this weekend i migrated off a rpi4 to a proxmox vm. used the backup recovery process, and it was super smooth. i migrated off my SLZB-06 to a SLZB-MR3U, also super smooth. got Thread working, not quite as smooth.. and finally got music assistant, snapcast, spotify and home assistant all talking together for super slick multiroom speakers! this was also not quite as smooth as i'd hoped
i have 132 devices and 30 automations so far 😅
I need to get a thread device at some point just to verify my thread setup works. There was an oddity in flashing the OTBR firmware, so I'm paranoid. Especially since ZHA keeps trying to get me to add that adapter as a Zigbee device.
I can’t decide whether to be happy that my sole thread device can connect from a HomePod mini through a printer, window screen, across the yard, and through a metal wrapped door…. Or annoyed that it goes unresponsive every now and again
If apple and eero would adopt the network merge spec I would have wonderful coverage, but I don’t do Alexa so the eero thread network is just disabled.
To me apple is not known for its willingness to adopt, lol.
That lock was a lot more stable in the past but the magic radio frequency ley lines shifted and suddenly started going offline
I may just switch it back to WiFi + mqtt and put matter out of my mind until it’s actually widespread
I'll be first in line when that releases. That's everything i ever wanted from a device right now.
How do I delete devices / Entities ? I lost my thread network and repaired the stuff on a new network, but now I need to get rid of the dead devices
if it was zigbee + zwave i would beeen excited but since it's thread.. hard pass lol
I'm just happy my sole thread device connects through my thickest brick wall! Seems better than Zigbee through the same wall
Id prefer zigbee too, but since its moving to matter, a thread router wouldnt be a bad addition.
Also its wifi7 and multiple 2.5ghz ports
RF is magic. Best not to ask too many questions
Hehe yeah
Two of my Phillips hue bulbs was also causing too much interference on my SLZB-06 one day.. was the day i restored from backup, and the Zigbee network got a little angry
just runa pass thru antenna
So I literally had to turn them off to rebuild the network
weird how that works
It's crazy how you can just shake s thing fast enough and it'll vibrate something else somewhere else the same way
And then we can make sense of that vibration
Are any Suzi Zigbee devices out yet
I’m looking forward to that
(The Zwave equivalent in Zigbee 4.0 basically for those who don’t know)
don't think zigbee 4 will be out within our lifetime
probably will be a long time
Reminds me of MoCA 3.0
was supposed to come out years ago
eero has theoretically included thread since 2017. I’m sure it’ll be usable someday!
well the audio spectrum of my fan suggests it’s an ac motor
so I guess I can use the innovelli module
now to figure out how to remove fan
only got that from the act man.. he probablt wasnt the frist but hey. 😛
If it has a remote, and is more recent it’s probably a DC fan. If you have two switches controlling the fan, it’s definitely an AC fan. Although, you can use AC fans with a single switch.
should be able to look up the model and find out for sure though
if it's original to the house then it's 2009, but every room with a fan has one switch controlling it and one switch that does nothing so maybe it was a retrofit
yea gotta buy a ladder first lmao
Could try to use Google Lens
just snap a picture of it.
Might give you a baseline
but most fans from that era will be AC
Wat
Trying to find a modern fan that I can control locally has been the bane of my existence for the past week due to the prevalence of DC fans
Wife’s grandmother asked “do you really need a fan there?”…. No we do not
Inovelli that sucker
I did the zigbee one for the fan in my office and have been happy. Added the fan light to a group with Hue recessed lights and have them all on a single dimmer
oh god am I reading this right that the receiver module is in the part next to the ceiling and not in the fan?
I wouldn't look for a prebuilt one with control in the fan even if they were all over the place. dropping cieling fans to address issues is a pain in the ass.. always control at the switch
lutron use to make canopy modules that you would have to install at the cieling fan connection and I hated having to deal with those when one would burn out or whatever
they eventually figured out how to skip the need for the canopy
Yes you should be able to remove the canopy cover without removing the fan itself
Need an AC fan for that, and manufacturers are moving heavily to DC for reasons. You know there’s something wrong when “includes remote” is a fEaTuRe
so will the innovelli provide light dimming and fan speed?
Yes
thats my point.. any fan that dosen't have "features" should still be ac
Having trouble finding those in the style we’re trying to match
Hence bane of existence
I still want to get a Big Ass Fan™, as much for the memes as the quality of the product
wait
so given the year of this
the seller of my house replaced all their fans to sell the house and already lost one of the remotes?
F
so do I put the innovelli dimmer or fan speed thing at the existing switch that turns it on and off?
Definitely do not put a dimmer there unless you want a fire
if the fan is controled via remote what does a hardwired switch do?
right now there's one hard wired switch that turns the whole thing on/off, and another switch that does nothing in each room
“I've had seven 'pretty serious' shocks.”

And this is why any fan needs to have local control capabilities
the innovelli website help bot is hallucinating products lmao
They do that themselves.
Think of a crazy project and assign people to look into it
Dimmer if you have a dimmable light. Canopy module gets power 100% of the time, dimmer put in smart bulb mode. Bind per instructions
Ie bypass the switch
I think all three switch types (fan/dimmer/on/off) all have the same capabilities in smart bulb mode so it doesn't matter which one I get
I have the button set up for single/double/triple tap for fan control since it’s not used that often
unless I'm missing something
🤷
Over the holidays (noting southern hemisphere summer) we were staying in a house where the only cooling in the entire house was one shitty ceiling fan.
It had the traditional three settings;
- barely moving
- almost acceptable
- way too fucking loud
I got the dimmer one is all I know
yeah, I wonder if i can bind the second unused switch completely wirelessly to just control the fan
I think you mean 1) kinda ok, 2) bit loud, and 3) trying to reach low earth orbit
I was hoping to replace the bulb with a smart bulb too but it looks like this fan has an "LED module" instead
I think so
In the sense of two switches bound to two functions? I think so
ye
https://www.lampsplus.com/images/productassets/3c61e2b8-8a01-4ae9-b4d3-124a025baa2d.pdf no smart bulb for me ig
Peak design too, chrome and transparent:
The zigbee module can. Matter I don’t know
That looks like a mechanical dragonfly
DC fans are nice because they go much faster but local control is tough
Most of the smart ones I’ve seen use Tuya which can atleast be firewalled and used with Tuya Local
but it’s Tuya still 🤮
It looks dimmable per the manual, so the dimmer wall switch looks perfect? Unless you want a separate “fan” switch which is still fine assuming you want the canopy module
oh where are you seeing that
what pg
Remote appears to have dimming capabilities. You can also disable dimming on the inovelli canopy iirc
Can’t you just unhook the remote box if it has one, and use switches for the dimming and one for speed control
it looks like you could since it has a separate wire for light and motor
We have Z-Wave dimmers on the fan lights and a Z-Wave fan speed control switch on the motors
oh shit it DOES dim
this convo sounds like a prelude to a house fire
As long as you aren’t putting a dimmer on a motor or DC fan you’ll be fine lol
Worst case if the light can’t dim and you put a dimmer on it usually it just flickers like crazy and there’s obviously an issue
Yeah if you have two hots in the canopy and both available at the wall then two switches is great
I think he said he has two switches but the last owner wired the fan motor/light together to only one
so could easily rewire it and install switches to control the loads
Easy peasy chicken dinner
ok I ordered 4 canopy modules and dimmer switches but ig all the dimmer switches will be in smart bulb mode for the canopy modules
https://iwillnotbuynitro.com/u/actual-easy-basic-australiankelpie.png Anyone want sum washer fluid?
is that like a OCD thing to use all but the last 20% then open a new bottle?
No. It is an "ugh notification its low let me get some while getting fuel"
and forgetting I have some at home
maybe you should combine them and keep it in your car
so put them in a better container
its just plastic
they're 2L tanks and iirc the washertank is also 2L but it triggers earlier
so audi just needs to increase the tank to 2.5L!
o its 3L
just run a fish tank hose to the bottle and bypass the tank
power efficiency to hilarious degrees?

S'almost like using technology from this generation instead of ancient bullshit is more efficient. weird! /s

lead?????????
Solder?
Just don't lick it
aw i wanna taste the honey of the zig bees
I mean.. probably not lead solder if its a sold product.. ROHS and all.
The Green box will arrive today, what yt tutorial do you guys recommend?
I recommend whatever video recommends 40hrs of fucking around and finding out
perfect
I’m happy to get the power efficiency, I’m not happy to be able to control a fan solely with a crappy remote or a cloud app whose privacy policy explicitly allows for sharing my home address
Remote has speeds 1-6 for fan. Want to turn the fan off? Screw you, light turns off too. Want to dim the light? Screw you, have to go all the way to full brightness first.
most ac fans are less than 1amp, dc could really only ever be half that BUT not if you go and include "features" then it just bumps that right back up
Oh hey HA OS 17 is out
🤔 now to figure out the most straightforward way to run a shell command
Migration started wheeee
Okay updated and storage driver migrated :^)
I wonder if this deleted the overlay2 folder
🤔 one of the commits mentioned it was necessary but not if it got updated to do it automatically lmao
What's the difference between these two Shelly switches? I'm unsure which to buy https://www.amazon.co.uk/Shelly-1PM-Mini-Gen4-Automation/dp/B0F9LJYSQS and https://www.amazon.co.uk/Shelly-Mini-Gen4-Automation-Certified/dp/B0F9LFNFMQ
Same price. I'm buying power monitoring version then, thanks. 👍
tonight will be the real test for the noaa aurora integration 😂
I think this is the first severe solar radiation storm in my lifetime
(nb NOT geomagnetic)
Been a while since I've been in here. Where do I report bugs?
I got a yale zwave lock that when I lock it, it flips it to "lock" again.
Want to see what issues are open (or were open and are now closed)?
- The core (backend) - for HA itself, and integrations
- The frontend (UI) - for cards and display issues
- The Supervisor
- HAOS
- The documentation
Don't forget to check for any alerts
If you think an upgrade broke something then:
- Downgrade to the previous version to check if it works correctly there
- If it does then change the
loggersettings for that integration todebug - Upgrade to the new version again
- Look in the logs for errors
- Open an issue, following the template provided and including the log information
Looks like something else went wrong. I rolled back and it's still doing it.
If it is just the lock, you are having problems with, create a post in #1284966617670881350 with the "Z-Wave" tag. Might be a device setting.
Just started doing this. It's weird. The lock is saying it's unlocked when it's actually locked.
Not sure if zwave js will tell me anything.
[48-98-0-currentMode] Current lock mode
[255] Secured
[48-98-0-doorStatus] Current status of the door
open
Status of the door open???
But JS does say lock secured. So somewhere some part of HA got confused.

wonder how far we are from sites charging fee's just to use them. like bank sites etc
pretty low risk of that happening I think
unless you mean in the SaaS sense bc that's obviously already a thing
I think you underestimate the greed of the world.
probably not, but I'm curious to hear what you mean exactly
like, "pay per login" kinda stuff?
as my example for banks.. such as using currency. they charge fees to use checks, credit cards. many banks tack on fee's if your account is below a certain amount.. just to name a few of things that already happened. heck many companies charge for paper copies of bills. I wasn't just refering to banks though
any site that gets used frequently could potentially tack on a charge
new sites charge
news
oooh you mean rent seeking
yeah I mean, that's just how companies do, right?
line must go up
-- we won't sell your data
-- sir, the line isn't going up fast enough
-- SELL ALL THE DATA
I installed crunchyroll last night to check out one show.. they locked the first episode behind a paywall rotf
Only if you get caught
i’ll never get caught lol
That’s the spirit 😉
Lawmakers are trying to crack down on VPN-usage and torrenting but good luck with that lol
Mostly due to pressure from football or sports enterprises
My server speaks dutch as well 😉
frommer doesn't mess around now does it?
I think you used up today's profanity quota.
warms my heart to see 2TB ssd's are well over 200 bucks now while 4TB HDD's only went up by like 20 bucks in the last 7+ years
In HDDs we don’t trust
i think i fell into their trap, gonna see if the moisture and temp sensors are total trash or somewhat useable
worst case uh... 15€ down the drain
Ugh I think I need to replace these ecobees, they just aren’t reliable for some reason
Using a stolen font???
Hello guys, sorry this is probably not the right channel but if I just want to ask some stupid beginner questions about HA where should I be?
Just curious where this fits in with y’all?
command_line:
- sensor:
name: Count Lines of YAML
command: "find /config/ -name '*.yaml' | xargs cat | wc -l"
scan_interval: 3600
unit_of_measurement: "lines"
whats the point
There is none
lol, that's great 😛
Beats scrolling to the bottom
holy fuck.. i asked chatgpt to create a mcp that makes copies of websocker sensors to fixed sensors in mqtt so that they can be shown in s card when i ask info about a sensors in ha.
for example what is the tempare of the termostate and it shows the termostate in a card.
chatgpt in all its wisdome descided to clone all my entitites in HA to MQTT
Instructions unclear I just removed all my YAML files
The first mistake was asking an LLM
Couldn't you just use xargs wc -l at the end?
can never have too many copies
only home assistant could have a bug where sunset means sunrise until you reboot the machine. Anyone ever run into weirdness w/ the sun trigger?
No. We are not using Home Assistant.
<@&330946878646517761> @worn bane is DM:ing crypto scam bullshit

#1284966582375813201 might know more.
I got a Drayton Wiser Smart valve for my radiator, supposedly the premium brand for it
but man its a bit unresponsive in HA
🤷♂️ a friend posted what he did and I ran it by AI with the same suggestion.
meh, yours is better. Mine has more output that needs to be massaged
Worst gif in the world omg
so I asked in #1284966582375813201 about why my sunset automation is triggering at sunrise here https://discord.com/channels/330944238910963714/1463208418687848786
I just did an upgrade from 2025.12.5 to 2026.1.2
Is there a way to see if there was a bug in that version?
please stick to that thread, don't repost elsehwere
should have been in #1284980040940912641

alright, so far one PITA of going from a NUC running HA at my parents' place to the new Green at my GFs and my flat is the compilation time of esphome
like wow it's slow, i need to figure out how to run that locally
yeah that is gunna be a thing.
you can run the ESPhome builder anywhere, doesn't have anything to do with HA
Yea, I don't even try to have them on the same node on the cluster
yeah it was just convenient to have it on HA
I run it locally so I can leverage the power of my desktop CPU and RAM not my main HA machine
i can compile and flash an ESPHome device in less than 30 secs
My NAS is actually the most powerful server currently running in my house :). I should put it there
The best test for me is how long it takes to build a Voice PE image
TF-lite is a stress test for sure
i have 12k lines of code in my DIY voice assistant - my machine smashes the compling in less than 1 min
the voice stuff is not the heavy lifting - LVGL is!
last time I tested, the best I could get locally was like 3-4mins for the stock voice PE firmware
the bigger issue is replicating it for many of the same devices. It rebuilds everything over and over
the voice PE firmware YAML is currently broken, though, until Kevin updates one of his branches
i've already figured my way around it, but why don't we have a iso for HAOS, just the disk image?
lack of a installer script?
(don't want support, but more of a chat)
there is no installer for HAOS, you just flash the imagine to the boot drive.
that's just how its done for now.
ye
i'm wondering why
the img is already being provided
there could be a simple script to basically do the current manual process
orrestoring the disk image
in my case, for example, im running on a very minimal resources proxmox host. couldn't really get ubuntu desktop going (or, at least, it seemed to hang) but could xubuntu. with only 1.5GB ram i wan't sure how xubuntu would deal with downloading the image. so i had to mount a smb share with the image on it to do it. not that straight forward really
but with an iso containing the image, that's not really a problem
if your on a promox host then i font get why you would be booting another os to install haos on a vm...
There's probably another way ye
you spin it up from the qcow2 file.
or
use the helper script.
I'm really just wondering why HAOS does it different from everything else
HAOS really is a bare bones OS, its "just enough OS for home assistant"
Frenck was working on an "installer" which included the ability to install on a proxmox host you logged in to. along with media flashing stuff too. was some talk of something bootable that could interact with it too. but not sure exactly if that will go anywhere or not
more details in #1443946263593746512 if curious
oh, interesting
i'll take a look at that
I posted in hardware about this but its been a while and would like to get an order placed. I am looking for recommendations on bluetooth proxy. I specifically posted about the M5Stack Atom Lite and ESP-WROOM-32 or if there was something else that would be an option that I haven't come across.
Please do not crosspost.

what were the most minimal setups you guys deployed HA in?
mine doesn't seem to be enjoying 1GB of ram. lmao
Probably better to start a thread over in #1284966540617449515 if you actually want some serious answers to that.
The corpses of my enemies and also a rasp pi 4
I kind of want to track my water and gas usage but I also hate battery powered devices
RPi5 with 8GB RAM and an NVMe SSD. Definitely not minimalist.
Actually maybe solar would work for the gas at least
My water meter is under a stupid plastic manhole thing in the middle of my yard tho
how much ram?
i'm actually not sure if i have more cpu than a pi 4
i allocated 1 core of a fourth gen i5
4gig maybe? I have 4x that on my current setup.
Assisting my home
I'm assisting it, and by "it", let's just say, my home
what support forum should i use for cameras not integrating well?
thx
yeah I've been trying to find reporting on it from a finance outlet so I can see what's actually happening
all the outlets keep saying it's the home entertainment business, which would imply they're selling crunchyroll as well for example
but I'm not clear that's actually the case
not going anywhere per say just going to be majorly owned by TCL
looks like it's Sony themselves that was ambiguous about it https://www.sony.co.jp/en/news-release/202601/26-0120E/
I'll try to dig up the TCL press release lmao
it's just the TV brand
"bravia"
oh is that in the TCL release?
the sony release doesn't contain any qualifiers, just that it's the home entertainment business
that just links back to the sony release
The new company is expected to retain “Sony” and “Bravia” branding for its future products and will handle global operations from product development and design to manufacturing, sales, and logistics for TVs and home audio equipment. Sony says that the partnership will leverage Sony’s picture and audio tech, brand value, supply chain management, and other operational expertise. This will combine with TCL’s own display technology, vertical supply chain strength, global market presence, and end-to-end cost efficiency.
that's just paraphrasing one of the sony press release's paragraphs
yep
and it callse out TVs and home audio
the entertainment brands have been under a different subsidiary for decades to my knowledge
Also has anyone here actually gotten Thread to work?
yes, #1284966617670881350
I've never heard of anyone getting thread to reliably work for tem
That's a lot of people asking for help getting it to wrok
I've barely gotten thread to work with HomePod Minis
I'm wondering if anyone actually uses it daily.
Zigbee has been rock solid
But Thread seems to be broken with everyone I know.
okay I gave up and just pulled it up on bloomberg terminal
the bravia line is under " Sony Home Entertainment & Sound Products Inc." which is different from "Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Inc."
and the deal is presumably for the former
What is a bloomberg terminal?
I've heard about them but never understood
a software product sold by bloomberg (the company) that aggregates a bunch of finance data
it's just a data product, basically
aka who cares cause it's all muddy water anyways lol
it also has an instant messages and craigslist on it, but the craigslist is super cringe
ty for explaining
well
time to automate my car :v)!
if Hyundai allows us to access the API anymore...
Selling: one economy, slightly used
I actually need to automate more stuff
I have 16gb of ram available and three automations
lmfao
I know, I'm just glad I ignoed everyone here saying 8gb is overkill
ram is stupidly expensive and I can run other containers still
a lot of containers
nothing I'd want to run is CPU intensive
it's a intel N150 iirc with 16gb of ram and 512gb of storage
runs ubuntu
oh yea
so I have a N100 with 16GB and i run HA and Frigate along with the other containers like Z2M etc.. HA and the other containers are a drop in the bucket but frigate will eat up more than half of the ram and cpu usage
no cameras here
(condo)
I just want to darg my car into my automations and use my calendar as a trigger
darg?
wat
you said darg your car
drag
lol
it's 11:30 at night
; - ;
ok time to automate my light.
deleted the automation that keeps making my bedroom cold in the morning by turning the heat off
Definitely need the heat. It's -27 with windchill
thats insane
Too cold
it's -10 now
This is warm
shorts weather!
I was out in it this morning. -27 windchill in -15c weather

What's a good weather Station to use with HA, that allows me to put temp readers in every room and log the data?
#1284966353798697001 with the recommendations tag please. vAs per the channel description there is no support here.
Oh, okay. My apologies. I wasn't really looking for support or anything, just a quick question that came into my mind.
Is gpt-4o-mini still the goto for voice related convos?
#1284966915055288530 can help.
the shelly em mini gen 4 pricing is annoying. (through amazon) they want $25 it is capable of 16amp. the shelly 1pm mini which is 8amp is $20 while the non mini 1pm is $28.. it's $5 more for 8 extra amps and $3 less for no relay
gen4 dimmer is what really shocking. 40+ eur for dimmer 😱
don't think those are available here in the US yet
In EU they are sold out most of the time anyway 🙂
unless you absolutly needed zigbee i wouldn't even bother with the gen 4
gen 3's are way cheaper
and provide all the extra perks aside from zigbee
feature-wise there is no alternatives for Shelly. Competitors like Sonoff ain't even close.
I personally has mixed experience with Shelly. I've got burned up badly by 1th gen capacitor issues.
I never had an issue and I got tons of gen 1 both shelly 1 and 1pm's
tldr; devices stop working properly over time because capacitors were low-quality/poorly engineered (voltage rating was lower than it should).
mine are the UL versions though
Also Shelly 1L 1th gen still has issue with LED flickering, even using neutral
fortunately 2nd gen+ most of these issues were sorted out
but 1th gen was a shit-show
I've moved away from Shelly because i've switched to Zigbee/Thread for my IoT devices (WiFi is not really well suited for 50+ small and slow devices), and i was really happy about Gen 4
I doubt that
These New Englanders will poke fun at my accent when I pronounce coffee as "kawwfee" and then turn right around and call it "kwoffee" 🤣
and why is that
Barns are fire-proof
more reason for the UL version at the time lol
some accents simply need subtitles
i do have 1 in the barn for the lights
and the temp
ugh i'm going to have to upgrade my ironwolfs to 8TB
