split acorn
#

atleast when it ras running standalone my phone with the unify app could reste

stiff smelt
#

But i just noticed you now miss that redundancy feature for no reason

#

xD

#

and another point of failure

split acorn
#

nah i dont think so

#

i dont have any ups keep in mind

#

so if power goes outim cooked either way

stiff smelt
#

Its something that can break, poe injectors are way less efficient and less developed over most switches

split acorn
#

doesnt really matter if its a poe injector or not

#

its made by unify tho

#

so like

#

i mean anything can break

#

the switch itself can break

#

or get stuck in rommon

stiff smelt
#

Eh you do you xD i couldnt care less hehe

#

But if the switch breaks, you lose the poe too

#

so the poe is extra chance of something to break over the chance already existing

#

my brain is kinda set to redundancy and as little point of failures.

split acorn
#

ill stock up on poe injectors lol

stiff smelt
#

xD

split acorn
#

is the c3650 even poe

#

i dont think its poe+ or wahtever

#

not sure what aps need

stiff smelt
#

specsheat answers that question

#

But yeah poe+ sounds resonable

split acorn
#

whenever i try to load syslogs on the pfsense ui, it pegs my cpu

#

and it has 4x threads on a gold 6132

#

just great 😄

stiff smelt
#

Hahaha smooth

split acorn
#

logs are a pain

#

i dont think anything can convice me to open ports across zones for syslogs and netflow

stiff smelt
#

Thats why i always end up running a dedicated syslog server

split acorn
#

yeah but like

#

i need multiple

stiff smelt
#

why

split acorn
#

sooooo

#

i want to respect my zones

#

i dont even want to allow syslogs or netflow pinhole rules across my domain controller zones

#

im running a multi forest with strict no trust

#

pfsense can forward logs to my trusted mgmt zone using static routing so thats good, but ill need a seperate log server for my untrusted zone

stiff smelt
split acorn
#

well i dont really want to use their sidecar

#

or anything to collect and push

stiff smelt
#

but, its what you are kinda looking for

#

Or if you do not want to aggregate the data, you can run multiple dockers

split acorn
#

yeah would have to have multiple instances

#

also dont really want to use docker

stiff smelt
#

Or lvm, or install locally

#

But yeah you can go anywhere with graylog

split acorn
#

why no ova for lazy people

stiff smelt
#

Also, communication from the graylog nodes to the data node is tls encrypted, why worry.

#

Eh i use proxmox

#

lvm is just as easy, but i dont mind dockers

#

This is what we use in our environment, its pretty robust

#

I run a single instance that is both the collector and data node together at home

#

I only need logs from 2 vlans, graylog has a paw in each network which works for me since they are both already secured vlans

#

Besides its udp syslog, not that big of a hole to poke.

split acorn
#

holdup i think package syslog-ng on pfsense is what i need

stiff smelt
#

also nice

split acorn
#

yeah so

#

i think i can use it on pfsense

#

then forward elsewhere

Crippled by choices with NAS and NVR and RAM prices 😔

#

Kind of surprised the unifi ecosystem distinguishes between a NVR and a NAS

ocean oar
#

Still forever annoyed by their refusal to allow self-hosting the NVR

dawn badge

They end up with bad reviews and support requests from someone who is trying to run off a jbod array of 100 sdcards from 2003 that they found in the back of a stockroom.

So going back to this 100 SD cards idea

Let's not lose momentum on this

dawn badge
vivid wraith

I kind of want to get a Mac mini to play with frigate and then use an off the shelf NAS like UNAS or something, but I’d also rather just run Ubuntu or something

#

macOS is cringe

split acorn

why mac

#

doesnt nvr frigate need gpu

#

for transcode and ai features

vivid wraith
#

It supports the m chip gpu making it afaict the cheapest very high performance inference platform @split acorn

Lower performance you can stay on CPU and such

atomic delta

Alternatively, combine yours with this.

That's 200 MicroSD cards right there.

Apple used to have a 24gb unified ram refurb listing for $679

vivid wraith

too much for me to justify

I could hardly justify $679 I feel like

#

Wish there was some cheaper alternatives other than just buying a GPU

vivid wraith

and then with frigate not recommending the google coral anymore and their iGPU systems performing worse than just the apple one

#

despite being more expensive

#

but I really don’t want to run macos

hoary canyon
#

I already have a mini PC I could theoretically use with an M.2 to Oculink adapter, the Mac mini would just be nice since I could also run things like Piper and TTS on it with better performance

vivid wraith

it’s nothing even against macos in particular I just want to run a headless os

In this talk, you will learn how Apple Silicon hardware differs from regular laptops or desktops.
We'll cover how we reverse engineered the hardware without staring at disassembly but by using a thin hypervisor that traces all MMIO access and then wrote Linux drivers.

unborn merlin
#

i have the gist from the past.

didn't the lead of that step down last year because of toxicity in the linux scene?

hoary canyon

Hopefully eventually Microsoft partners and announces a new version of Bootcamp.. Apple I think has publicly even said that Microsoft can if they want to

unborn merlin
#

and you got the companys name wrong there bruh

#

Its Microslop

#

get it right.

hoary canyon
#

I don’t like windows much either to be clear

#

If you can dual boot into windows ARM, ARM linux distros wouldn’t be too hard to port at that point I’d imagine

dawn badge
#

I dislike apple completely but to be fair the m4 mini is great cost efficiency for the computing power. obviously it gets ruined if you dare try to upgrade from the base spec...

unborn merlin
#

ah apple.

the company that charges more by weight for their SSD/RAM upgrades than literal gold.

hoary canyon
ocean oar
#

That base-spec M4 mini definitely ain't bad... if you can live with 16GB/256GB

hoary canyon
#

the killer thing about the M series Macs is the ram is unified

ocean oar
#

Mind you current circumstances are making even Apple's upgrade prices look reasonable

unborn merlin
ocean oar
#

Though that doesn't bode well for what happens once their stockpile of M4 models runs out and they re-evaluate for M5

dawn badge
unborn merlin
hoary canyon
#

Apple has been doing it for years now

ocean oar
#

Newer, certainly, but still a year old

hoary canyon
#

Yeah looked it up

dawn badge
#

I did consider that maybe when the m5 mini arrives some used m4 minis might appear for a good deal. but then I remember that apple fanboys think that they hold their complete value for like 15 years.

hoary canyon
unborn merlin
#

it really barely does.

#

it only does as much as the fanboys will pay for it.

hoary canyon
#

That’s simply not true lol

look up an iPhone 12 price

ocean oar

I've got one of the Ryzen AI machines (HP ZBook 14, with the top-end 395 model), is a pretty nice machine

hoary canyon

that phone is from 2020

dawn badge
unborn merlin
#

Whats that?

apple has a high margin (45-60%?) and manages to make things stay absurdly expensive for long times by wanking off their brand?

dawn badge
hoary canyon
#

just in general though

#

some of their stuff is still crazy expensive even used

#

from years ago

unborn merlin
#

again. because fanboys will gargle that corporate cock and keep the prices up.

realistically? shit should drop

#

the only company that gets more fanboys going down on it; is Tesla

hoary canyon
#

That makes me wonder how much an older Mac Pro is

dawn badge
#

at least we have finally stop hearing "but macs are designed for media editing" which was semi true in the "power pc" era. but hasnt been true since 2005

hoary canyon
#

if this is DDR4 memory, I wonder how much you can sell the ram alone for

unborn merlin
#

those are server cpus.. and isnt that like ddr3?

#

so uhh.

not much

hoary canyon
#

I don’t think a 2019 would use DDR3

#

but I could be wrong

unborn merlin
#

because limited amount of people wanting it.

#

either way, its server cpus; so its ECC or whatever.

hoary canyon
#

DDR4 ECC it looks like

ocean oar

#

So DDR4-2666 or 2933 RDIMMs

#

The number of those kind of DIMMs I have sitting in a box at work that I wish I could do something about

#

I think there are 1250x 32GB DIMMs, from old Dell servers

unborn merlin
#

I think the resale values probably fairly limited relatively speaking..

#

outside of.. speciaty uses

like; I think I saw a ServeTheHome or something video on new bus-attached cards that are basically just stacking fucktons of ram in em in oolder gen stuff to expand PCIe5 stuff and things with fancy cards with the shortage but?

CXL?

unborn merlin

yeah over CXL

vivid wraith

I also need to decide between frigate and scrypted if I don’t want to bother with too much maintenance

unborn merlin

do you want to pay monthly fees to have a DVR function? 😄

Don't forget to check for any alerts

If you think an upgrade broke something then:

  1. Downgrade to the previous version to check if it works correctly there
  2. If it does then change the logger settings for that integration to debug

But it was so pretty.

What's a good weather Station to use with HA, that allows me to put temp readers in every room and log the data?

Oh, okay. My apologies. I wasn't really looking for support or anything, just a quick question that came into my mind.

Is gpt-4o-mini still the goto for voice related convos?

forest edge
#

the shelly em mini gen 4 pricing is annoying. (through amazon) they want $25 it is capable of 16amp. the shelly 1pm mini which is 8amp is $20 while the non mini 1pm is $28.. it's $5 more for 8 extra amps and $3 less for no relay

#

gen4 dimmer is what really shocking. 40+ eur for dimmer 😱

forest edge
#

don't think those are available here in the US yet

blissful horizon
#

In EU they are sold out most of the time anyway 🙂

forest edge
#

unless you absolutly needed zigbee i wouldn't even bother with the gen 4

#

gen 3's are way cheaper

#

and provide all the extra perks aside from zigbee

blissful horizon
#

feature-wise there is no alternatives for Shelly. Competitors like Sonoff ain't even close.

#

I personally has mixed experience with Shelly. I've got burned up badly by 1th gen capacitor issues.

forest edge
#

I never had an issue and I got tons of gen 1 both shelly 1 and 1pm's

blissful horizon
#

tldr; devices stop working properly over time because capacitors were low-quality/poorly engineered (voltage rating was lower than it should).

forest edge
#

mine are the UL versions though

blissful horizon
#

Also Shelly 1L 1th gen still has issue with LED flickering, even using neutral

#

fortunately 2nd gen+ most of these issues were sorted out

#

but 1th gen was a shit-show

#

I've moved away from Shelly because i've switched to Zigbee/Thread for my IoT devices (WiFi is not really well suited for 50+ small and slow devices), and i was really happy about Gen 4
