Okay what’s the meta for sleep robust bed presence detection, that weight sensor thing?
Sounds like a #1284966353798697001 thing
Yee
block windows telemetry dns?
it’s not only windows, this is in more apps. Reddit is also nagging me to enable notifications for example
anyone have any reading suggestions for using the devices built into your haos hardware? I wound up using a rather nice laptop for a bare metal install and would love to understand how to use the built in hardware, camera, audio in and outputs, bluetooth etc
particulary getting audio in and out working
Please post in #1284966540617449515
what i hate is the "enable google photos backups?" everytime when i open google photos
hands off google! hands off!
i dont want my metadata to train your cloud vision AI models!
in my mind it has the same energy as to keep asking someone to have sex so that they’ll eventually cave due to pressure and repeatedly asking.
i know you set now but pls lemme smash
no means no
i don't want ai training off my fugly ass
How about I stop using this app completely? Huh? How about that?
or my actual ass in general
real lol
i wish but unfortunately all software is doing this
grrr
maybe a custom vibe coded web extension
to auto decline popups
notifs and cookies and etc
you have the anti annoyances option in uBloxm
Think of the profit margins though! What is wrong with you 🤣
Lol for car enthusiasts
Facts
Today I used #find-support to find the correct channel, and the Discord thread search function to find a thread about the issue I needed help with. It worked. AMA
I didn't. I used #the-water-cooler and got shouted at
skill issue
if someone repeatedly recommends Tuya hardware, is that a shill issue?
if a whale is malnourished, is it a krill issue?
if I find Stranger Things boring and predictable, is that a thrill issue?
lmfao
If you have to pay for bad dad jokes, is that a bill issue?
yessss btw u think i need the graphics card?
I'm more worried about seeing an A4 cpu
why? The system is always idling xD
it's "temporary" until i finish my Proxmox /NAS Server so HOAS can run again on my pi 5
You're building a temp server for your proxnox machine so HA can run on a Pi?
It's also always slow and always using quite some power ;P
Wha?
it runs since a few months now and before i had Pimox (unofficial proxmox port for arm) running but because support dropped i installed hoas on that machine and run docker on the pi. and when it's ready i can usew the wayyy slower machine - the pi - for running only hoas again and not have to run immich and jellyfin
it's not slow xD
About the power usagae idk but it's at least for what i'm using it for fast enought
I consider myself a car enthusiast
In terms of speed yes it is pretty slow :P
yeah but it'S using 3-8% and 2 GB of 16 GB of RAM sooo
Something like an N100 gets to be 2-4x faster while using less than a quarter the energy :P
yeah but i will use the pi later
The magic of a decade of development:P
i don't need that much of power. for that i have my other pc w/ an gpu and 32 GB of ddr4 memory so yeah
You do you. I'm chilling with a N100 serving me lol
It ain't keeping me warm I'll tell you that much
Yeah whole thing sits at like 40W idle before HDD spindown
I am going to have to turn my heat up when I take my old L5640 NAS out of service, might be this weekend
It is my old freenas box, need to see if it has anything useful on it that isn't already on the new NAS
She uses about 130W if memory serves
freenas, more like freeheat amirite
Quite annoying there isnt any channels you can just drop a quick question in, have to make a whole thread
Hi everyone!

Thanks, and I really appreciate the community’s time and openness!
Hi Home Assistant community, My name is Dr. Tianzhi He, Assistant Professor at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Together with Dr. Kyrie Zhixuan Zhou (UTSA), we are preparing a project proposal to the NSF Safety, Security, and Privacy of Open-Source Ecosystems (Safe-OSE) program focused on the Home Assistant ecosystem. The Safe-OS...
In todays video we take a look at
Any recommendations for a hardwired relay for RPi Home Assistant? Trying to control a 12V alarm horn.
Any relay should work that's rated for the appropriate current
I just don't know how Home Assistant will recognize it.
Does it have some native recognition of the ports on the RPi?
Do you know of any specifics I can look at? Relays are a bit new for me (other than using the Zooz Multirelay).
You may want to prefer also buying an esp32 and use esphome to run the horn
They have their own discord with a more extensive diy section. Id also just buy what I see on Amazon ^^
Would I use Home ASsistant at all if I use esphome?
Yes esphome easily integrates into homeassistant
just use a shelly 1. can run both mains or 12v and has a dry contact so whatever you are switching dosen't have to be the same power
it really depends on what exactly your circuit layout / load / etc... is
It's just a pair of 12V horn speakers. I have a Meanwell 12V power supply. Just need the relay to interupt the common line.
shelly 1 can do that
yeah this, would likly be a good option. the shelly 1 (the blue one) is dry contact
Yes
yeah shelly works out the box
What about it's reliability as WiFi?
Is there perhaps a better option that is hard-wired for more reliability?
shelly 1 is hardwired
The horns are for my home security system so I'm hoping to have virtually no downtime or interruption.
Oh.
It says WiFi-operated on their website. Might be lookinga the wrong version.
infact if you get the gen 4 you can use wifi or zigbee or blutooth
You will need a wifi network to have it work through wifi
Wether or not that's reliable depends on your environment and a couple other things
the Shelly Pro 1 has an ethernet port but its a din rail mount device
shelly's are not cheap tuya crap. it will be reliable
So when you say hardwired, are you referring to how it communicates with Home Assistant? Or the contacts for the circuit?
but i think you have to power the pro with mains
heck I still have some gen 1's in service
I have a Zigbee network, so if these are reliable via Zigbee, I can just do that.
Old guy uses old devices, more at 11

shellies are wifi/zigbee/bluetooth. to power it you use mains or 12v
Got it.
or even zwave now I guess
tho the zwave models are a seperate and inclusivbe thing. not even sure the zwave ones have wifi
Meanwhile my Zigbee network is really built out with switches, sensors, etc.
the gen4 shelly devices have zigbee as an option.
no gen 4 plugs yet besides the us variant :'c
Well, do you guys have an opinion on what protocol would be best? WiFi, Zigbee, or Matter?
it all works
pretty much
matter is pretty much just wifi anyways unless you use the horrid thread
Can you use Matter without thread?
yes
matter over thread of Zigbee devices but not compatible with Zigbee xD
the matter on shelly deices is over wifi
How do I use Matter over WiFi?
they might be able to do thread too. not sure not looked
I'd probably prefer to switch to that since my Thread router is my stupid Google Home unit.
matter-over-thread devvices generally dont have wifi
I would just use wifi or zigbee and skip matter imo
essentuaally matter-over-thread and matter-over-wifi are 2 differnt things
Well, I bought like 25 Inovelli switches, all Matter 😛
yea one sucks more than the other
So I'm a bit committed to it in that sense.
what type of matter though?
saying just "matter" is like saying "liquid fuel" sure something might be liquid fuel but it might not work in your engine 😛
shelly is just matter over wifi.. guess they have no plans to support thread even tho the hardware can support it
i wouldnt be supprised to see it come later or maybe they are saving for gen5
I don't plan to expand my Matter network too much more. I have Inovelli switches, my three window shades, and a few smart plugs on it.
I dunno.. they don't seem keen to support the addon over zigbee so they don't always listen to customers
from context here i know what you mean but please say "thread network" 😛
this whole issue with matter is probably why it will fail.
nobody can market it correctly because there's no simple way of explaining that there are 2 different things called the same thing.
honestly not sure why there even is two variants
@vivid berry btw be sure to get the "shelly 1" not the "shelly 1 mini" the mini doesn't support powering by DC
(but it will still work if you have an AC power source, because it is still a dry contact relay)
(but also, just buy the full-size one)
Yeah, I'd prefer this anyway since it's double the amperage.
I could use one of these to control my entire landscape lighting transformer.
matter as an underlaying a standard works on any ipv6 network. and companies like matter over wifi because they can retain ownership of the device after they sell it to you. with thread they cant really do that.
yeah the I / O are the dry contacts
The 2-channel isn't a dry contact, so it's fine if you need a 120/230V output, but not if you want to switch 12V
I don't see a 2-channel version.
But yeah, I need to switch 12V so doesn't matter.
12V for one, 24V for another line.
I built my own low voltage light transformer and one of the power supplies is running 24V so I can size down the wiring on a particularly long run.
over wifi still requires a matter server so in terms of disconnection I don't think that will likely ever be an issue
besides over thread they could pull some weird stuff to in regards to requiring a certian hub etc like how aqara did
with wifi you get bullshit like "you can turn the plug on/off by matter but if you want energy monitoring you need to use our app with your account that uses normal wifi connection to work"
true. found that out first hand lol
altho that same limits could be applies to either
they could just f00k you straight up over thread and not include that info with no alternative means of getting it
Or like I discovered with a LIFX bulb, if you connect it via matter you cant have transitions, it just changes colour/brightness immediately.
if its thread only device then its likely gunna be accessible.
yup this
lets just face it. they messed up matter and best to never mention it again
I made a rant post to link to people using tp-link devices (and having problems because of it) and I cover the matter issue - https://gist.github.com/MichaelMKKelly/056bd7d045266fd109a9b02b24826506
I do sort of lean that way tbh but also some of the big companies (e.g. apple/amazon) are putting thread radios in their stuff so its gunna be around for a while.
thread has been in echo crap for awhile
thread by itself has always been that red headed step child
for matter to be saved it needs to overhaul its certification.
if companies pull this bullshit then they get their certification pulled.
I don't get the issue with just using one protocol universally. it would actually make things cheaper for companies in the long run
Ikea at the latest in terrible marketing. they slap "matter" everywhere but to know that its thread you have to delve deep into the user manual
so people that are used to matter being a wifi thing because of some random smartplug think its all good then they ask how to put in wifi details.
then the reverse on some companies wifi devices. "why is matter asking for wifi creds?, the whole point is that its not wifi"
makes me slam my head into the desk
lets go back to the days of 433Mhz with the occasional oddball 315Mhz
At least the signal went through walls properly 😛
it does
I have yet to ever have an issue and I got tons of weather and buttons running on it
Is a device either Matter over Thread or Matter over WiFi? Or can some do both?
not sure I have seen a device support both yet but technically the hardware is there on esp devices
So my Inovellis that are Thread won't do WiFi?
Now I feel like I should've gotten all Zigbee for my Inovellis.
Expensive mistake if Matter ends up being an issue.
have you looked them up? they may support just wifi
most likely (technically it could be both but its unlikely)
I only see Thread when I look them up.
I won't worry for now. They've been bullet proof so far.
More reliable than some of my Zigbee devices tbh.
then probably thread only then
But I don't know if that's because Inovelli is very high quality or because Matter/Thread is a good protocol.
if they are working then there is no problem.
I think here if you were to deck out your house with wifi smart stuff you can actually asks for more but if you were to do anything other protocol even if you included the hub etc you would either have to take a loss or remove those devices before closeout lol
Yeah lol
I never plan to leave this place though.
And if I did, I'd rip out all my Inovellis and swap them with dumb switches.

Ugh i never really cared for dashboards but decided to put some effort in one to make something nice besides just functional.
Bye bye countless hours 😅
doesn't have to be fancy, simply functional
Yeah, i have that, but functional for me is not functional for my wife.
Also planning on getting a display on a wall, so something nice looking is required
hey guys
have any of you noticed you cant add anything to automations in version 2026.1.0?
the automation editor just closes as soon as you select anything to add 😄
clear your cache and refresh the page. Also, this is a first and last warning: This channel is not for support.
i wasnt asking for support just seeing if others saw this too but noted.
Fair enough, however it's a slippery slope to support
meh if people here were like well yes blabla i would have moved over to the proper channels,
thats what the coffeemachine or watercooler is for is it not? 😄
I'll look
No, it is for raccoon and cat pics.
I mean at least on my mobile app it works so idk
@sinful plinth aah thanks, just so yall know i found a gitissue #28899 which reports the same behaviour for scripts so i added my tests and info there 🙂
what are some weird things people have on HA?
Washing machines with their own blog.
interesting
If you haven't already, be sure to post this in #1284960456880029707 too!
They already did.

weird, it's not September
|| yes, that's a joke about the stupid US date format ||
fwiw, this is slighly misleading. The Aqara "Matter over Thread" devices that work best with one of their hubs do so because their Matter firmware is incomplete, so to get full functionality you have to install the Zigbee firmware which has proprietary extensions which their hub knows how to talk to.
(tho some of those extensions on some devices have been reverse-engineered so you can use them with ZHA or Z2M)
oh that reminds meof something i thought of the other day. in the UK we have a special clock that might scare the Americans who are scared of 24hr time... one moment
this is a nice clock 🙂
I mean, I like 24-hour time but this seems like something I'd see in a strange dream lol
Like when flipping light switches doesn't do anything
oh, that late already?
its at Greenwich which makes it inherently correct 🙂
mmm greenwiches
there is also the big red "Time Ball" there
it rises up just before 1300 then drops down exactly at 1300.
its a time signal for ensuring your clock is correct. and importantly it can be seen from the river so the ships in London can set their clocks/chronometers
hmm. the ALPSTUGA CO₂ sensor seems to track fairly well (I've got an NDIR sensor to compare), but it's completely uncalibrated from the factory and appears to assume that the concentration when you first turn it on is ~390ppm… it adjusts over time if it sees lower concentrations later :/
Is there an add-on for a better scene editor? I'd like to see at a glance in the editor what the current state of each entity is vs what the scene's target state for each entity and be able to directly edit the target state
yessss it's weird
Ooo I have a chunk of these arriving soon. Partly to use as thread routers while my coverage is sparse. Was that documented? Should I just initially plug them in outside for an hour or smth
Not sure how long I’d need to leave them there 🤔
the only thing they say in the instructions is that "it may take up to 12 hours for an accurate CO₂ level reading" but it's been more than 12h for me and it's still reading about 350ppm lower than my NDIR sensor.
if you leave it outside… probably as long as you wait long enough for the temperature and humidity sensors to stabilize (iirc this type of CO₂ sensor needs to know accurate temperature and humidity for compensation in its calculations) it would be good enough. No idea about how well the sensor will work long term without occasionally having some fresh air for auto-calibration tho.
(but that's also true of many NDIR sensors too, the default is usually to auto-calibrate assuming the lowest CO₂ seen over the past week or so is ambient outdoor levels)
Well I can put one of them next to my Apollo air-1 for a baseline I guess

it is a demo from security event where the presenter show how did they reverse engineered some household applience internal comincation protocol. and then integrated into HA/esphome
This is cool local only solution, and maybe you can unlock some features in the washing machine too? 😄
https://media.ccc.de/v/39c3-hacking-washing-machines
Almost everyone has a household appliance at home, whether it's a washing machine, dishwasher, or dryer. Despite their ubiquity, little is publicly documented about how these devices actually work or how their internal components communicate. This talk takes a closer look at proprietary bus s...
cool, i guess
Only on the 20C setting, anything warmer isn't cool
that's a hot comment!
Just like a 90C wash
too hot to handle
yep
unrelated question... has anyone been to that place in Texas where you can drive a tank?
You all don’t autoclave your workout clothes?
do you think they would let a psycopathic raccoon try?
Just my underwear, it makes my raccoon noises a lot higher pitch
In Sweden there is a place where you can drive a tank.
phew, was worried i missed cat stations in japan, but we didn't end up going to that area, though we were nearby-ish in kyoto
next time 😄
Germany too
Technically anywhere is a place you can drive a tank if you believe in yourself 😉
You have a tank, who's going to stop you?
That incident didn't end well.
wasnt a requirement iirc

Also avoiding a full face reveal, its all been thoroughly thought out.
its your dashboard.. face reveal to who? lol
according to the sidebar, at least 20,329 online strangers
this channel gets maybe 30 active people within a 48 hour period. you are safe lol
:>
Much of the dashboard contains dynamic stuff that is hidden by default, im working on appliance statusses now
You're safe, it's all in some made up language 🙂
How come there are 20k people online and body is chatting about their cool homes?
Okay, I'll bite. It's 62F in my room right now. I have a very cool home.
It's winter and many people's homes are warm
Thats cool
We should create a website where we can expose our living room temperatures and get cool statistics
62F? wtf
That's downright cold
What are you guys doing to your homes now, anything interesting?
Sitting inside it.
they testing out their xmas gift The Comfy. the wearable blanket
That's a Snuggie
Nah, I have a big blanket from Big Blanket. 10' square.
succes met de cito
Hehe, thats just the school calendar loaded in Home assistant, my kid is 4 so it will be a while before that's relevant, but thx anyway
I might actually be able to filter those out 🤔
cus i’m freezing my nuts off outside rn
why are you outside
aren't you the one who was posting in here a few weeks ago about a temp sensor dying cause it got too cold?
Nope
who was that. complained about an indoor sensor dying when put outside lol
Ive been using the ikea sensors outside for quite a while, they are quite robust.
fixing my outdoor temp sensor
I have an indoor sensor outside right now, a holdover from before I had my weather station. If it dies, I have my weather station, idc.
Oh wait, thats motion, nvm
and also filling my car back up with antifreeze lol
Yeah gotta know its cold because now you dont know
its more something to prevent my water heater from freezing
Ok makes sense
Isnt the purpose of the water heater to heat the water so, no freezing?
its a geiser
ah
so it will freeze if its not in use
yeah
i remember those from my child days, but those quite a while back. That's old skool
Yeah, always
ngl its actually not bad. it works similar to the CVs
Yeah, i know, just really avoid taking showers when other people use the hot water xD
I dont have this issue!
correct!
😮
Aka tankless water heater
I do like to go scorched earth lol
🤣
urgh my home server lam port keeps crashing
I hate having to reconnect the ethernet cable over and over again
Change the cable
or is it the actual LAN port on the hardware
yeah it's the lan port
you can always just use a usb one instead
oh right
<@&330946878646517761>

Second too late again.
Wanna keep all that money for yourself eh
I usually don't even have time to read the images before someone gets to it.
before you think this is damaging just know that it went offline in the routers settings I can't even access the truenas ui
and I don't care about the mac address anymore I'm changing that thing
So my firmware on my router became corrupt and I had to restore to factory. Now my HA doesn’t work anymore in most cases. I’m thinking it might be due to me having static IPs before and not anymore. Now my router uses object oriented so I didn’t use static IPs but is there a way to make HA work without static IPs?
how the hell do you get <@&330946878646517761> to work without putting text before it. also the Extarxy post
that don't work
<@&330946878646517761>
it just auto fills MOd25
seems liek it works for me
yea well your privileged
I can put a space before the @ and I think it works but just @M does not
Hmm. It does not work for me either
No idea why the last two are in that list 🤷
AI assisted search vomit?
there's no "mod" in the screenname or handle
sounds like a permission issue
petro is probably in some role the rest of us are not that has the permission to Mod
or see it or whatever
mobile vs desktop?
just saying you type @here or everyone without an leading spaces and it fills correctly. the mod one does not
I give up, can't figure it out. Google is useless for it
weird. why is there so many people with the name admin in here lol
I can at mod just fine. Must be a skill issue
Mobile
interesting - it turns yellow on mobile indicating it recognizes it as a role, but the autocomplete list is the same as above. It just lets me use it without picking the top item in the list instead
meh, this isn't a problem for me, so I'll let you guys sort it out 🙂
Ah yes I just hit enter and don’t worry about the list
but if you do that on the desktop, it really does pick the top item in the list

I got a persons shoulder from what I saw, but at the same time I wouldn't have said it was a "person" based off that
I helped a very good friend to me put in 4 new windows in their bedroom, his wife is one of those who likes to sleep in like 14C room
They had to open the window one night because she was too warm 🤣
No good deed goes unpunished
i mean mines usually 15 to 17 too
We currently have -8C outside
I found it highly amusing, I sleep with a summer duvet and currently have about 21.7C in my bedroom
But I don't have anyone to cuddle in bed
Just needed a quick and dirty storm cover
Better than a quick and dirty bed companion.
Don't kink shame.
It either hits the bed or the rotary air impeller
Hey all, but of a weird question but is there some kind of colour picker helper? I've got some rgb coach lights out the front of the house and want to have the ability to change the colour of them individually from my dashboard. I know I could use the more info thing but was hoping to have a nicer looking ui to make it more friendly to use
You can check out some of the custom card options on HACS. There are some options that might fit your purpose. but for further discussion start a thread in #1284965988642590891

Next on my list is replacing these fans and then maybe thread light bulbs? Maybe
My fans are those ones with RF remotes

Anyone have an explanation for why Home Assistant cannot set alarms by default configuration?
because it doesn’t want to
This is the "water-cooler" channel for Home assistant. Why shouldn't I ask a basic question here? Using a voice assistant in home assistant, I tell it to "set an alarm for 7:00 AM." My Ai linked assistant say's, "Got it. Setting an alarm for 7:00AM." Then immediately says, "I'm sorry, but I can't set alarms at the moment. If there's another smart home task I can assist with, let me know." for a voice assistant, this seems like such a basic task. Just wondering why it's not integrated within Home assistant?
super helpful answer.

what I find more curious is the notch in the middle of the door that doesn't even seem to go all the way down to the bottom. as if the door was made with an optional purpose but that door just has that slit filled in.
because there is a channel for where people actually watch for questions to assist, where as this channel is for me to be a menace to the moderators and make sure they have to earn their keep and scream about the horrifying long furby
Got it. Asked there. Thanks.
Dr. Nick with that voice

Ask Kent, he lived in this house in the 1960s. Probably dead now.
Hopefully it is a little more air tight now!
Get creative.
All the original doors are like that
Must have been in fashion at the time
I really need to put a proper 30 minute fire door on it, with a threshold. It is a better weather job though
above that notch it looks like a solid wood door
I will open it up when I replace it
So you can see!
The other doors have "ribs" (maybe for her pleasure??) And then a sheet over it all
That may be a primative fire door, and solid though
you should keep the door. stuff isn't made like it use to be. just have it refinished
It is to the furnace room
If I made a threshold for it, it may be good
You could well be right
I am 100% keeping the metal fire door to the garage though
It is literally a part of the wall
Must be original to the house
When it warms up, I need to put a flue liner in, sort the door and swap the furnace
Chimney is large, meant for burning logs, we burn pellets which is a lot damper and less temperature, chimney is too large
modren stuff sucks so I would keep anything you could repair/refinish
ragebaiting
I just watched this, it's a pretty fun talk. but its definitely an "advanced" thing to do 😛
nerd talk
Anyone with the Honeywell RTH9585WF1004 smart thermostat able to weigh in on whether they like it for non-Connected use? Thinking about getting one for an elderly neighbor who needs a replacement. (Edit: or the T5)
The what
u w0t m8
Sorry. Edited. Honeywell smart thermostat models.
Oh that reminds me I need to look into hardware for the Honeywell security system in my home from 2009, it’s like vista or something? I heard several places sell stuff I can put in or replace in the panel box that will let everything read into HA
If it's not something for connecting into like HA I wouldn't bother getting anything fancy.
But I’m kind of scared of all these door and window sensors beeping one day so maybe I should just get my own and rip out the security system since I don’t think it does anything else
I mean. I can get one for $12 and would like to be able to program it to her liking. 🙂
But if they suck then I'll keep looking.
the nest ones are simple enough. you can program them and the person dosen't really need to know anything to just turn and push in to set whatever temps they want
the "learning" aspect of them works ok
Nest has crap fan settings tho. I used to have a Nest and replaced with Ecobee.
its not a HA question so this isn't breaking any bylaws
I mean, just basic Thermostating, but her house has pretty bad temperature stratification between upstairs/downstairs. Only option on her current dumb thermostat is to keep the fan on constantly.
She's home most of the time so I don't really need Weekday/Weekend schedules, but daily schedule and random fan runs would be nice. I guess a $12 Honeywell is a decent solution. lol
Just curious if anyone would say "aaah no I used to have one and it sucked because XYZ."
yea cheap one would work just fine
not saying the honeywells are crap.. it's only when you get into trying to intergrat them into other things like HA would this become a more complex situation
at which point ender's suggestion would be the correct one
Sure. I have some pretty complex automations with my Ecobee and Aqara sensors in every room, but neighbor doesn't need that. 🙂
I think even some of the cheaper honeywell ones can use those remote sensors for temp balancing between floors
but in all honesty (I use that) it's not that great
all it does is balance a set temp with a range of -6/+6 degrees
In todays video we take a look at
Put a sonoff ceiling fan module in my daughter's room. Guess who found out he needs another AP for his home today.....
I'll see if just pulling the antennas outside the fan dome will help, but inside there it barely works lol
I have an old ADT system that’s based on a Honeywell Vista 20P, have it in HA via an EyezOn Duo and have $12/month cellular + IP UL monitoring
Cost only about $200 for the hardware
Likely the dome is metal- blocking the signal
ive been trying to add my fire tv to my home assistant but its been quite a task, has anyone else got a fire tv to be controlled by ha ?
Yep, which is why I'm planning to pull the antennas outside of it tomorrow.
You need to enable ADB on the fire tv and then use the Android Debug Bridge integration to connect. You allow the connection on the fire tv (always allow) and you should be good
notification pop ups on android is ok but after seeing how it's done on apple tv's I really wish they would invest more into that for android
Have you used that notifications for android tv app
works well enough for us
have the doorbell image and stuff pop up
I still use that old method. can't remember the name of the app i had to side load
try that notifications for android tv app from the play store, works well
native HA integration also
I do also
pipup works pretty well
but
I wish the timeout could be more dynamic
i think on appletv you can make the video feed popup indefientitly or just auto close based on a trigger etc
which you cannot do with pipup
Set up LLM vision recently, pretty cool stuff
yea i'd rather just see the live stream lol
I have it notify first with the live stream
then a few seconds after with the description
handy if in the car or somewhere I can’t look
you can do the text stuff with pipup too, the text gets injected upon creation of the window
so like below my images/video etc it will say what object frigate detected etc
neat
window timeout part is just what I wish I could play with
play with in terms of it being dynamic while the window is already created
this seems cool
Has notification support and camera support
yea there is a few of them. one that is something tv overlay too where you could even popup buttons for you to press directly from the tv to control HA stuff
I just want better control over the camera feed stuff
my android tv dosen't "support" any of those apps as in showing them available from the play store
The Venstar T2000 is ugly as sin, but it works great. My only gripe is lack of access control on the local API. I use the thermostat temp to make a fan to equalize the temp in the house.
dumb question: why is there no thread2mqtt ? instead need a matter specific addon ?
no point I don't think
Well.. one less integration no ? one less container to run/maintain ?
matter requires a hub/server. hub if you are using an ecosystem or matter server if you are trying to connect like directly to HA
hub and server are the same thing, like a cordinator for zigbee etc
I ordered a new radio for a thread border router but I know that I'll need to setup the OpenThread Router container to use it (I don't have HAOS so its a bit more of a pain apparently).. I guess this would be comparable to the zigbee2mqtt container I currently run.
Then I guess I'll just use the matter integration (doesn't need a container) so I guess it's fine.
I don't find anything more difficult haos vs container
So far with Zigbee it was a pretty easy... but networking on the OpenThread container seems a bit tricky - but seems well documented
If it wasn't for the ikea stuff I got, I probably would not have bothered tbh.
I don't remember where I found it, but I use this blueprint for an automation that sends me a Telegram message when any battery drops under 20%.
https://my.home-assistant.io/redirect/blueprint_import/?blueprint_url=https%3A%2F%2Fgist.github.com%2Fsbyx%2F1f6f434f0903b872b84c4302637d0890
Is there an integration I can use to talk to the birds to tell them to stop eating the deer food, and talk to the deer to stop eating the bird food?
Asking for a friend
Omg we have a Jay
So jays eat deer food, whodathunkit
spoiled gluttons will eat anything smdh
rich
bird
birb
I absolutely love jays
my secondary pc has a matrox card in it
maybe I can use it?
for uhh frigate detector stuff
my boomer neighbor has gone absolutely balistic again lol. My downstairs neighbor and I have parked on a bit of property that is not a parking spot and he finds that irritating so now he's shouting at me lol
like genuinely screaming
We do not have a local karen 🙁
you can have mine
maybe for the better, i get enough fun out of them watching them on youtube.
its frustrating
Yeah i didnt think it through
As long as they do not start damaging stuff its fine.
ye
Took me a while to get a good grip on CSS Grid, but its very powerful 😄
Yeah, that was until css-grid
I had such a fight with CSS blend modes while creating my floor plan
Oh, i thought with your karen
nah
if I deck him he dies
Solution implemented
neh
I'll just ignore him
I do not feel like going to jail over someone who cannot contain his anger
I may have issues with thinking things through
its ok
Chaotic Chaos type
I have been living with this moron for about 5 years now
Yeah sounds cool, lets go with that
Do you wanna build a snowman
I already have 2!
I might build another actually
They make great deer carrot holders
made this smart with an esp32 and some relays, any ideas on what to do?
Building those 2 snowmen was the most fun I have had for a long time tbh
I must be boring as fuck
VOC in bathroom trigger "biohazard"
Wife presence away > home detected
Use LLM to detect when your children say "dad/mum" in that tone that causes you to mutter under your breath "what the hell is it now"
Any of those useful?
i hate tuya so much
dont buy tuya --> no issues with tuya
Tuya doesn't get a lot of love around here
Missy loves it though
2nd to the amount of joy she gets from dangling the carrot of nightmare furby completion
this is the "meat dragon" of the old people

its such a peak thing
YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Tuya is my mortal enemy
Why does all the good stuff have TUYA support and not HOME ASSISTANT support
It’s like these companies hate us
Oh wait…

nothing of the good stuff supports tuya
For good stuff, look to companies like Apollo Automation, Third Reality, and Innoveli. 3R stuff is great, and is the least expensive of the three. AA makes great stuff, but it's not the cheapest. Innoveli is the extreme end of the spectrum. Expensive, but the absolute very best stuff.
Sonoff is another decent, but cheap option. I have several zigbee relays, switches and smart plugs of theirs. And a wifi fan controller as well. I haven't personally had any issues with their stuff, but I've heard some not so great things from others.
For the UK & Euro folk, Shelly is a good option, and they've recently started releasing some US stuff, but I don't have any experience with their stuff at all.
Absolute comedy genius
kids these days and their toilet heads wont ever create such master piece
I have some tuya zigbee stuff, its ok most of the time. I avoid the wifi stuff like the plague.
I think i had 2 wifi devices, a simple led strip and something else. 90% of the maintenance on my home was those 2 things. Out of... idk a shit ton of devices and automations.
These for example are great:
https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/ZG-204ZM.html#tuya-zg-204zm
Oh i see they seem to have issues with getting stuck at a state, i have 18 and none of them have that issue.
Integrate your Tuya ZG-204ZM via Zigbee2MQTT with whatever smart home infrastructure you are using without the vendor's bridge or gateway.
Anyone here host a weather star 4000 docker image? I’m wanting to somehow stream this to my tvheadend/jellyfin. I found a project to stream it over rtmp but I’m really not sure what I’m doing with it.
Oh huh TIL the ecobee extension in home assistant isn’t capable of reliably updating and it’s a problem on ecobee’s side
It was driving me crazy lmao
Well at least the setting of temps works reliably after some faffing about and that’s more important than reliably reading the values
Cause I can just use other sensors for that
Apparently it works fine if you have an API key but they don’t issue those anymore
The Ecobee servers that work with the dedicated Ecobee integration aren't great either, even if you have an API key. That's why most folks prefer the HomeKit integration for local control
Oof
Well I did finally get the local control working. It not updating in home assistant isnt a huge deal I think
Hopefully someday ecobee fixes it with a firmware update but I’m not counting on it
I could try re-pairing it I guess but that seems like a pain with my existing automations
Even your cameras have cameras!
Honestly just do it, it could save you a LOT of time, if it doesn't work then you know that too
I heard about a job, nuclear power station, they had posts with cameras on and no deadspots
The post had 7 cameras, one pointing at the other cameras so there was no deadspot
But what I posted was just jank af haha
nukular
Tuya consistently working challenge: Impossible
if not then yes otherwise no or yes. so.
click here, or there, it's all china. Cleepy
Beach Boys - God only knows and tuya too
consistency inconsistent is also very consistent

you think, tu ya?
Just setup my new Shelly1 Gen4. Is there any reason to add it via the Shelly integration if I already added it via Matter?
i dont know if matter supports all the functions the shelly integration does it not. but if its working for what you need then you can probably just leave it.
I'm noticing it's hooked up to my WiFi as well. Is that because Shelly uses Matter over WiFi, not Thread?
correct.
omg its wisconsin!!!
Someone else running WS4000??? You know peak
Get a raspi and hook it up to an old TV, it’s what I did
Definition of the good stuff varies
Wanting to make it authentic and stream mix it in my live tv feed lol
if "the cheapest way to make anything" counts as good stuff, i dont want it
You're a disgrace to all Ferengi-kind!
If you find a single renault clio in Wisconsin give me a call
Looked like a Malibu with paddle shifters imo
Ducking Chevy driver
nah it's a baguette
I didn't think it snowed much in Germany
It does!
No it's doesn't
Nuh uh
I been there once and it didn't snow therefore it doesn't snow in Germany
looks like a temp job after a fire
I think I went too far back
Looks like a fucking mess to me 🤣
why would you have that? why would you add the music?!
I love that
My goal is to turn my tv to a channel and it just be on but I don’t want to add a rpi I’ve got a Roku stick plugged into a rf modulator so I have my live tv coming through the jellyfin app that’s being sent from tvheadend.
deranged. love it.
RF modulator? I transmit my RFs
so your neighbors watch it too?
Not really
Because nobody has old analog TVs
Also
It’s low wattage enough to be in the legal gray zone
Which is close enough
Planning on getting 2 more if I like this one
And having 3 channels to switch between
I can’t step outside of my office and still see it
That’s how low wattage it is
What a damn flex. I’d like to award you one hell yeah point for that.
modern tv's tune into the same channels
Yes
unless where you are from tv's don't come with tuners built in
Yes but most TVs here have satellite tv receivers built in
interesting
Look up BS/CS Japan
I been using an rf modulator to broadcast my cctv cameras to any tv in the house but it's a closed loop using coax
If you just hook that up to a tv antenna
With an amp
then my neighbors would see it too
And then reverse it
no thx
True
Then it isn’t really closed loop anymore is it
I could have done this
Why not stream it while you're at it 😛
works pretty good too 1080p
But I opted to have a cleaner look
And bought a premade one that’s a lot smaller
If you couldn’t tell already I am a big RF nerd
I just found out about google home premium, what kind of hoax is that. They have not been into the home automation game for years.
Well, the nest stuff, but thats it
10 bucks a month to let gemini spy on your nest cams and tell you about it when u ask xD
there is a guy on YT who bought a few of those old station rack mounted rf modulators and streams 24hr cartoons to multiple channels. like one would be like saturday morning cartoons, another would be like simpspons etc
uses in conjunction with a few rpi's
I just hooked my server up to mine and use it's desktop
??? 😭
Yeah it seems its just a re-brand of their nest-aware subscription with gemini integration. As expected nothing new.
I should really recycle my nest speakers, they are only fancy eggtimers now.
What do yall know about Josh.AI
Seems cool but not very tinker friendly
Seems more UI focused than anything else
Really? xD
The hardware exists to run locally
Sounds like a vendor lock pro to me
Call me superstitious
But I hate cloud services with every fiber, bone, and molecule in my body
Yeah, id miss my node-red chaos first thing next morning
Like, a smart home is nice, but tinkering with a smart home is where the fun is
It’s definitely more for rich ass people who just want a smart home
And don’t want to mess with it
The fun in a smart home is screwing up something
That too
And then figuring out how to fix it
I cant wait until i have time to let some local AI control my home without boundaries and see where it ends up. Im gonna have a blast
Still getting my home re-set up
The wife maybe not so much, wife approval factor -10, but its for science.
Moved recently
Definitely want a local AI to talk to
But there aren’t really that many good smart speakers out there
That work
I mean home assistant (Nabu Casa) just came out with one
I got some really cheap tesla p4's for my servers I can load 16gb of LLM into. Cant wait to play with that.
Yeah, then comes the speakers
Niceeee
Yeah
Speakers
Has someone figured out a way to turn an Alexa into a home assistant speaker yet?
Albeit they’re probably more locked down than the pentagon
I have a love hate relation with alexa, i know its possible to do alot with them with custom skills, but i just hate the integration
Still havent set it up correctly yet. I have the speaker for about 3 years now
Right now I am using Apple home pods
Through the bridge
They’re pretty nice for local control
Sorry, apple scares me away, something with being assholes.
As they still work when the internet goes down
Do they sell a unbranded repairable version? XD
I wish
me too Q_Q
I’d just like to remind you that not all apple nerds are assholes
But a majority of them are
I dont blame the people that buy apple, i think the company is an asshole and do not want to support that
Should have been more clear on that xD
I'm using gpt-oss 20b 4b and it works really well, except I have to turn it off when I wanna play video games
Hmm
Idk just found it, looks very promising actually
How, just how

I always wanted to have a local smart speaker that can announce Text-to-Speech messages configured in my Home Assistant automations. Thanks to #ESP #Muse #Luxe this is now possible, but it needs some conf...
Esp32 speaker?
Hey, I have a question. I’m new to Home Assistant and wanted to ask if the add-ons from HACS are safe, or if there’s anything I should be careful about, like with the Meross add-on…
third reality is going to release a voice speaker for HA this year
Where did you see that?
In the smart home world Apple is up there in terms of quality though
Given HomeKit is all local by default, far nicer than the default clouds of Google and Amazon
They are hit and miss. I have one that works perfectly I have another that had unusably low wifi signal strength.
Anyone use wireguard? Would you use it again?
@forest edge see, you could be happy
I use wireguard on my router to access my network when I'm not home, faster than ovpn
My neighbor was sitting in a chair in his yard with no shirt and just shorts the other day soo.. you really don't got anything we don't lol
as sad as that is to say since we are suppose to have snow
Thank you I have some port forwarding issues I need to rectify first and then I'll give it a go.
I rate this post cap
LA has had significant Santa Ana winds on Jan 10
Smh my head
I guess most of them
are on the north side
Dam
hey all, i'm looking at getting a meross msg100 smart garage door to make my garage smart - just looking at how it all works now but it looks like there's a reed switch in the box which the meross uses to tell whether the garage is open/closed
i've already got an aqrara door sensor that tells me the same thing - do i need to install the meross sensor? has anyone used it without the sensor and been ok?
alternatively i think a shelly would work as well, but if it needs to be hardwired, i'd need to get an electrician out to do it, so just viewing my options
#1284966353798697001 might know.
there's not a non thread hardware thing by chance, is there?
Thread being protocol or the discord forum setup?
touche! discord forum setup
Then no
fair - i find them easier to use but i'll check out the discord threads and see if anyone's made a post
Otherwise make your own thread, people will see it
yeah, just made my own since i couldn't find anything - thanks all
kinda rare to find weather apps using approx location instead of precise
It is for your protection, so weather cannot find you easily.
So you remember those clouds in cartoons that follow you when you have a bad day
Simplisafe is such a network hog 🙄
Wait does that say what it means. Write what your doing and AI gives replies?
What introvert with personality issues is in charge at that company?
it’s probably a butchered translation. Google keeps prompting me to enable this
the results are bad as the are, adding an LLM to the mix just is a recipe for more disappointment
have we learned nothing? 🤣
it's like those Olestra chips or those sugar-free gummy bears all over again
SA winds, yep but died down on Saturday, no cap!
I have 3 nucs laying around, low spec. Wondering wat to do with them. Any cool idea's ?
I feel stupid 😂 I modified my device tracker in cleanups I did yesterday. This morning I update HA to latest core and another adaptive lighting update. When I got out of bed I noticed stuff wasn’t working. I troubleshot and ended up restoring to snapshot before updates. Then spent 30 minutes troubleshooting and digging in to an automation that wasn’t working I discovered the home thought I was away because my tracker changed entity names. I was away / unknown and nothing that required someone to be home worked. I fixed it and voila! Things worked. 😂😂😂
how "low spec" are we talking?
J3455 1.5ghz quad cores
4-8gb ram, but that can be fixed
Should be fine for many things when paired with an SSD
Im thinking of migrating my HAOS to it, off of my proxmox cluster. So i can take that offline when im not labbing.
Well, i would need to find a way to host the rest
any dual ethernet?
Proxmox cluster on the 3 nucs xD
could run a opnsense router perhaps.
Im more a mikrotik kinda guy and already have a hacked sophos running it :p
I might create a proxmox cluster out of it and see if it can run my daily stuff, could save me some power since my lab is quite power hungry
It may not even be able to run my home assistant 0_o
Is there a way in HAOS to see what's taking resources?
get the glances addon.
oh i have that lol
addon_a0d7b954_nodered running 5 days 21.2
I may be using node-red
xD
21% of my cpu's goes to node-red, maybe i should optimize
Oh well, thats not going to work. no way these nucs can run my haos
I dont really know that much about node-red. I have never used it. I know the concept of it and I guess why people would like it but I just use the build in automation engine.
Yeah, i come from the old yaml days, never changed my habbit. Also whenever i see someone make automations in the UI it makes me uncomfortable with the amount of configuration for simple things.
Also its easy to create your own functions within node-red based on javascript. I use a lot of custom automations that would be very hard to recplicate in the UI
For example my alarm system:
ew node red ;D
Id be lost without it xD
{{ states.automation | count }} = 10
I wonder what those are actually lol
Oh those are just some automations to trigger WOL and such.
Im really surprised how little people use node-red, its so powerful.
its also pretty poorly done
tbh, I think a lot of the users are like you in the way that they used it back in the day and never changed.
Yeah but there is no way i could even replace node-red with the functionality available in the UI
the functionality is pretty much identical, it just doesnt get displayed in such a flow way
have you tried?
well, minus the need to work around the horendous messaging and input allocation issues with nred
Yeah some of it, might be possible but it would be very very complicated. I'm using custom javascript functions within node-red which i think would not even be possible in HA
What?
I get the whole "why bother starting again" but the stock automation stuff is really good and is getting massively improved at the moment.
yes its one of the most poorly implemented flow based tools. the need to redeclare properties through additional nodes just for the sake of identifying them as an input, paired with the best luck sync of states makes a lot of things very verbose to say at least
its really not good if you want to do anything but declare process steps
@stiff smelt I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
Since it removed my image...
the only difference in thought between the ui and this is that homeassistant wants you to describe your automations as trigger-condition-output
and as the output is a change this is effectively another trigger and so on
Yeah which would make the total automation a big complicated structure in the UI, or am i wrong there
