【New feature: Supports setting data reporting interval time in ZigBee2mqtt】Are you still troubled by the large amount of data reported by other presence sensors? I believe you will like this feature, the new version supports setting data reporting interval time. Make your ZigBee network less noisy. And this feature does not affect real-time synchronization when the presence state changes. How to add this ZigBee sensor to ZigBee2mqtt? If your ZigBee2mqtt cannot directly recognize the device, please contact us for JS files.Or search for “wzwenzhi” on GitHub to download the file.

# grizzled gull https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/music/articles/ai-generated-country-song-cur...

I'm a composer and producer of 30 years. I'm fine with this.

First of all, given that the article says nothing about HOW the song was made, I'm leaning towards LLM lyrics, genAI singer, and mostly human / DAW composition. The current state of the art is that full tracks are quite far away -- I suspect the context window needed for making an entire song is just too large to understand things like melodic structure, chord progressions etc. Compare the "AI movies" that made the rounds a few months ago -- just a human burst prompting and then editing 5000 shots down to 50 manually. And the result was fucking atrocious.

we'll get there, no doubt, but I think it's wise to use the same filter here as with anything else: Generative AI is a useful tool at best, a slop dispenser at worst. There's zero reason to believe generated music will be any more successful than LLM poetry or Midjourney "art."

#

in fact, given that music lags pretty far behind image generation, it'll probably stay the least developed (and therefore least interesting) subgenre of genAI.

i sure hope so lol

Hey folks! Has anyone successfully set up a smart “home” network (home assistant or otherwise) in their office, specifically at an on-site job (ie your office on company property).

Did you need to get IT involved? Would I be able to do this with a cheap WiFi router? I could even defer all control to buttons/devices in the room, rather than needing to go through some web server or something.

I suppose everything would have to be local control only, unless I could get permission from IT to allow my local (office) network to connect to the web

I didn't because I am IT.

# weary bone Hey folks! Has anyone successfully set up a smart “home” network (home assistant...

As an IT security professional, I can say hackjobing something like that is definitely a bad idea. Consumer-grade home automation equipment isn't built to corportate IT security standards. If you'd really want to do that, you'd have to turn to professional building automation, because having consumer-grade automation in your system would be a veritable security nightmare. It's all about attack surface. Imagine one of the new stealth warships with all angled surfaces to reduce radar cross-section, and mounting a big, fat, round water tank on top. Or, perhaps imagine a bank with a multi-ton super-secure vault door installing a regular wooden door next to it so the cleaners can get in and out. The only way I could see that is if it was 100% separated from any and all of the corporate network, and even then stuff like voice assistants and whatnot would be and absolute No-No in a corporate environment.

weary bone
# wraith pier As an IT security professional, I can say hackjobing something like that is defi...

That’s what I was assuming. And your analogy makes perfect sense.

I do work at a church that does a lot of technology integration in house (the team I just joined). Maybe they know of something I could set up.

But, sticking with consumer stuff, If I take my own router, and only plug it into the power outlet, then connect all the wireless stuff to only it, I could get a Bluetooth device that could serve as the trigger when my phone connects…… could something like that work? I’d have to stick to brands that don’t require any kinds of accounts (i am totally ok with that… practice for my own home network)

#

Would that be a viable setup? Would I even need the WiFi router?

wraith pier
#

Maybe you should go a little more into the details of what you are trying to achive.

weary bone
wraith pier
#

If that's what you want, I'd either semi-smart bulbs with integrated PIR sensor, or if you INSIST on making your life difficult, you could try something like Switchbot which works on bluetooth alone.

#

You could also turn to a philips hue system which at least when I last checked happily worked without an internet connection. A little TPLink wifi-to-lan bridge could probably bridge the gap to your phone, but I haven't tried that particular use case yet.

#

Maybe they've even enabled the wifi radios in their bridges by now, who knows?

#

(yes, hue bridges DO have wifi built in, Philips just never bothered to fix their firmware to use it. Some people have even managed to hack their bridges to enable it)

weary bone
#

Hmmm.

I know that our house has motion sensing bulbs that work on “radar”, but they are only on for maybe 30 seconds at a time, and require constant close motion to stay on.

I guess they make PIR sensors for things like LED strips too, right? I’ll want to have some of those as well.

From what you’re saying, it sounds like my particular application isn’t really covered by most consumer products.

Basically the time in home assistant has gone funny. So for instance it currently 7:47 and HA thinks it 7:25.

raw tulip
golden wing
# raw tulip We think it's pretty neat! It can be gang box mounted as well. We have both visu...

gang box mounting is less appealing because i'd rather just have it in my light switch if i was planning on putting it on a wall anyways. ceiling mounted poe esphome presence sensors is theoretically the holy grail of home automation (in my opinion) but this product comes just a bit short because of the limited fov. if i'm going to mount something in my ceiling, i'd like it to be able to detect presence in my entire room

I’m happy with my hue bridge pro, but there’s really nothing I can do with my old bridge (besides sell), right?

So confused, going to sign up for Frigate+ but then the warning says it doesn't support facial recognition, but when you look at the documentation it does...

golden wing
#

The visibility isn't the concern

#

Sorry the word appealing probably gave off the wrong impression lol

#

I just mean that if I'm going to put something on a wall, I have no reason not to use one of the dozens of mmwave light switches on the market now

#

And if I'm going to put it on the ceiling, I'd like the detection coverage to actually cover the whole room instead of just a rectangle

#

Which is why I said that product was almost a holy grail product, it checks a lot of boxes (PoE, ESPHome, ceiling mount) but doesn't check the last one I actually care about (actually detecting the whole room)

#

Doesn't have to be perfect 180 lol it's on the ceiling

#

But it also doesn't have to be a rectangle where one dimension has a lower FOV than the other

#

(which makes sense for a wall mounted mmwave sensor, just makes less sense for ceiling mount imo)

#

The point isn't the number being high

#

The point is not having a sensor that can detect 150 degrees in one orientation and 120 in another

#

Or whatever the real numbers are

This wiki collects information about the Vitotronic heating controls. The focus is on the PC connection Optolink interface. All system parameters can be read or set via this interface. This includes, for example, temperature measurements, device states and settings but also switching times and consumption data. Depending on the application, far-reaching possibilities open up:

#

read?

#

looks like the esphome component also has setting/selecting stuff too...

#

so probably depends on the hardware used.

My eyes are not awake enough yet, I’ll sift through it later if I find sime spare time and motivation to get into it again

I only know that when I first looked jnto it, there was optolink and listening in on the zigbee devices which require additional stuff I don’t have or don’t solve the issue with coexisting independent networks

#

In the end I’m looking for a satisfactory solution and am annoyed that viessmann seems to be hostile in that regard

Are blueprint suddenly broken? I had a blueprint for my hue switch on the hue integration. But now when I want to use it it doesnt show the switches in the dropdown is this something specific for hue other model name or something or did something change for blueprint in the last few patches?

Found it, EDIT: for some reason the model changed from Hue dimmer switch (RWL021) to Hue dimmer switch 🥹

It seems like every manufacturer of anything electrical that goes in the house wants to be part of the IoT story these days. Further, they all want their own app, which means you have to go to gazillions of bespoke software products to control your things. And they're all -

Hi everyone, I'm new to Home Assistant. I just got it installed on my server the other day and found it comes with a todo list, which I instaltly started using and love better than Google Keep. I also created an account for my woman to get her on, but we can see each others notes. How do I make it so we can choose what notes are shared and what notes aren't?

# dusty mica What is a "decent tuya device" lol

Their zigbee devices are mostly decent, if you can get past pairing hurdles. I use their temp/humidity sensors and their buttons all over the place. Definitely prefer thirdreality devices for things like bulbs and now smart outlets though.

#

Mind you, they're only decent because of the quirks that automatically fix them. They break spec like nobody's business.

Philips/Signify released a Zigbee device (Hue Secure Siren and Chime) that uses all custom shit instead of the standard things that already exist in the Zigbee spec lol
