I once had a (alarm combi detector) that was giving false alarms from water running in a pipe behind the detector
Wasn't the first thing I thought of
I'm always afraid of the badkammer
You could try moving it say 20 degrees to one side and see if continues
Seems like a dungeon
Goodkammers sounds infinately more fun
You know normally I wouldn't even consider somethign like this, but... there's an entry that makes me interested
【New feature: Supports setting data reporting interval time in ZigBee2mqtt】Are you still troubled by the large amount of data reported by other presence sensors? I believe you will like this feature, the new version supports setting data reporting interval time. Make your ZigBee network less noisy. And this feature does not affect real-time synchronization when the presence state changes. How to add this ZigBee sensor to ZigBee2mqtt? If your ZigBee2mqtt cannot directly recognize the device, please contact us for JS files.Or search for “wzwenzhi” on GitHub to download the file.
18 dollars I might give it a shot
Also tempted to get https://www.ebay.com/itm/357337643140?_skw=ls10+ultra&epid=27062853540&itmmeta=01K9Z387E6K697GC36HBWQT6E9&hash=item5332fbb884:g:UjIAAOSwyDJlrkJg and put it in the basement, its dirt cheap for a decent vac, but my wife would kill me
Enjoy your monthly gift, I guess
I really appreciate the HA community after looking at the Valetudo webpage it reads like the old RTFM thought process, I doubt they intended it that way
Valetudo is... special.
yeah.. thats a good way to describe it lol, I really want to install it but the documentation is different then I'm used too
I'm sure it looks more complicated then it is...
Nothing a good bad cant fix.
yep, lol
What most sites don't have a banned FAQ on their home page?

heat difference between the inside and outside?
is that tripane?
Yeah, tripane 🙂
It was down to -4C outside, so it froze on the outside
And now the sun is being a good boi and burning it all off
that could be a cause
lol
I see the same effect when I defrost my car
steamy windows
yeah
the only thing that worries me is that moisture on the bottom of the window
is tath inside?
No, all outside (thankfully!)
good!
The only place I see that is on my 80s isopane and on the bedroom windows
not on my tripane
neat
Kitchen never gets sun on it during the colder months
hehe
Very happy with the windows, we had 1+1 preciously, could barely tell when they were closed

I only need to replace one old window with soemthing new

I got mine for a good price and installed them myself
I live in an appartment complex so I need a crane lol
You could do like they do in some parts of Asia and just climb out to install AC units?
Absolute psycopaths
I hope to be closer to the ground with the rest of this years jobs anyway
some might just say that health and safety is for wimps...
I did the same to fix a leak
its scary
I am a wimp then 😄
it does keep you safe though 😛
Mostly!
I nearly removed a thumb with a slight slip of the angle grinder one time
Got very lucky haha and just gave it a little shave
AC basically is a human right with how sky high the humidity gets around here
the peak curve is my room with the AC off lmao
I agree it is a human right, but also disagree that people need to climb out of windows with hopes and prayers to get it done!
well it’s harder to find someone with proper gear here
they’re usually reserved for companies and such
You were just trying to hasten the evolution to raccoon.
I am far happier doing stupid stuff for myself, than for other people.
You would be amazed what can be achieved with a centrifuge and a 3d printer
I want an AC-unit 🥺
Or even a 3d printer in a centrifuge
I think I will have to sort an air water heatpump first, I wouldn't be surprised if we are below 0 now for a couple months (and I live in a fairly warm bit of Sweden)
least cold bit of sweden
Not least cold, but not most cold either 😛
I just live in a swamp
I saw -27C once a few years ago, but those are rookie numbers. We normally get a couple days between -20 and -15 every year, and maybe a couple weeks around -10 ish

It is very dry though, it is a lot better than shithole UK weather
the coldest I have seen is -5
November's been super-mild here (London), but next week it's remembering, and we're heading to freezing point

Totally different topic, anyone see this article, or listen to this song? If I were a recording artist I'd be nervous for my profession, only thing left for them will be live concerts
i refuse to listen to AI music if I have the chance
Agreed, but take a listen its not bad at all
AI stuff is pretty darn good. Specially covers rolling back 50 years.
Want to see something awesome, look at eminem as 50's soul version, loose yourself is great
Been waiting for this. Thanks Spotify 👍
Checkout Gangsta's Paradise, electro hip-hop
it makes you realize how good lyrics really are
Agreed.
Right?
Only version I found was on youtbue with some idiot commenting over it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQcF_hKZtAs is good too

Wonder if we could Ai the Ai song
I am waiting for a AI mix generator by mood and bpm.
What if one of the most iconic club anthems in rap history was transported back in time to a smoky 1950s jazz club?
This is 50 Cent – In Da Club (Soul’d Out Version) — a bold transformation where gritty hip-hop meets vintage soul, gospel power, and roaring big band energy.
This isn’t just a remix — it’s a time machine. “In Da Club...
Thats good too
only thing that kinda sucks is teh AI soul versions kinda end up all sounding the same after a while
Give it few months. 😀
I'm a composer and producer of 30 years. I'm fine with this.
First of all, given that the article says nothing about HOW the song was made, I'm leaning towards LLM lyrics, genAI singer, and mostly human / DAW composition. The current state of the art is that full tracks are quite far away -- I suspect the context window needed for making an entire song is just too large to understand things like melodic structure, chord progressions etc. Compare the "AI movies" that made the rounds a few months ago -- just a human burst prompting and then editing 5000 shots down to 50 manually. And the result was fucking atrocious.
we'll get there, no doubt, but I think it's wise to use the same filter here as with anything else: Generative AI is a useful tool at best, a slop dispenser at worst. There's zero reason to believe generated music will be any more successful than LLM poetry or Midjourney "art."
in fact, given that music lags pretty far behind image generation, it'll probably stay the least developed (and therefore least interesting) subgenre of genAI.
i sure hope so lol
Does anyone have a zbdongle-e? I want to know if I can just plug it in out of the box or if I need to flash something else on it to connect zigbee devices to it.
here he comes
Please create a post in #1284966617670881350 with the "Zigbee" tag. This is not a support channel.
Cool thanks
Is there a channel for documentation?
Welp apparently I don’t have that one turned on…
Was just looking for a place to make a suggestion about the main HA documentation site.
@last cedar https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/raccoons-are-showing-early-signs-of-domestication/
How did I not know this existed? Ceiling mounted PoE Apollo R PRO-1 might be the perfect presence/occupancy sensor
maybe not. i'm not a fan of rectangular detection fov if ceiling mounted. my ideal scenario probably still light switch mmwave
Some day... some day I will pet a domesticated racoon.

Switch your moms iPhone with an android running grapheneOS and call it feature update
I found a "may be bug" in HomeAssistent.. when opdating something with "backup first" you can't see that is start.. befor you get impatient and try to start update once more and get a error.. backup is busy..
I believe that's been reported already
Want to see what issues are open (or were open and are now closed)?
- The core (backend) - for HA itself, and integrations
- The frontend (UI) - for cards and display issues
- The Supervisor
- HAOS
- The documentation
Don't forget to check for any alerts
If you think an upgrade broke something then:
- Downgrade to the previous version to check if it works correctly there
- If it does then change the
loggersettings for that integration todebug - Upgrade to the new version again
- Look in the logs for errors
- Open an issue, following the template provided and including the log information
@static schooner cool 🙂
Has anyone here had any luck updating Tradfri bulbs Ikea via ZHA?
#1284966617670881350 with the "Zigbee" tag might be able to help
Just found the ability to fix statistics. Thanks for that feature!!!!!
Will this do?
Hopefully Rainbolt isn't on the discord or I guess y'all be knocking on my door soon
According to Google, this is either germany, sweden or russia lol
I will take it 😄
i haven’t seen such an empty road in forever lol
according to statistics, it would be 1:Germany 2:Russia and 3:Sweden...
according to knowledge, it's Sweden
Oh yes it is Sweden
It might also be Sweden.
@arctic quarry you won
\o/
damn statistics
numbers are slippery
when wet..
Lies, damn lies and statistics.
if we had some GeoGuessr-head in here they'd probably go "ah, the road lines are wrong for Russia and the asphalt indicates permafrost winters, which Germany doesn't have"
or AI..
In Germany I know those snow poles beside the street just from more alpine regions (aka snowier regions).
Statistics say there’s around ~5M households in Sweden, so better start knocking.
Conduct a survey of the general thoughts about raccoons in Sweden while you’re at it
i have one of those too

I think this doesn't look visually great :/
(even if all of them were different songs or some were off)
maybe i should leave it to just volume control
I know this isn’t supposed to be here but im not sure where in support id ask and i honestly dont think its possible im looking for a way to reload a integration that stops polling sometimes only way ive seen is watching its last check and after some time restart HA entirely
I set up an automation that turns my Christmas tree off if it tips over (i have cats this year). Just a cool thing that ive never seen anyone else do
hi
10 points when hit
bad time to live in or near the palisades
Ok, I'm an idiot, where exactly is the core.config_entries file relative to /? I am running HAOS and I'm on the command line and I can't find it anywhere, I'm going crazy
\config \ .storage
ok is there seriously not ANY other command line editor to use in HAOS but VI?
I'm going insane, literally all i need to do is edit this one file
So my wife bought these smart plugs from Costco and there doesn't seem to be any native HA support for them. A bit of research showed that they are likely tuya plugs and can flash some custom firmware that will allow me to use an mqtt plugin with them. I am very tech savvy and not intimidated by any of the steps involved (even though I have no clue what all these plugins and components do atm), but seems like a whole lot more trouble than it's worth. Smart thing to do is just return them and order some others that Will work with HA, without needing all these extra hacks right?
TBH I bought a few that I flashed with tasmota. It seemed rather daunting but it actually went super smoothly, I found a few guides online and tasmota rocks
There’s a few addons that have gui editors like VSCode and a basic text editor. I use the Advanced SSH addon and in there I have Neovim with all my usual dev environment plugins installed.
ok so I'm using an addon right now to edit the core.config_entries file but every time I do, and restart homeassistant, the value has been reset. All I need to do is change ONE IP address...
I just deploy mine using the deprecated supervised method, so I can use whatever tools I damn well please. They can pull it from my cold, dead fingers
Might be worth a thread in #1284966540617449515 to see if there is something special going on. Or just remove and add again.
I mean… you can still use whatever tool you damn well please with HAOS too. You can run any CLI tool in a container (like the SSH one) or any GUI tool after mounting with Samba.
why provide anything but the best?
Still less convenient. Though TBH I'm just fine with vi
vscode with haos set as the ssh remote = zero issues
I would say this is more "control and oversight" than elegant design, depends if the control part is crucial for you or not
I don't think it looks bad, but there is a LOT going on in a small space
I decided to create a local weather forecasting template sensor that uses the barometric pressure (current level and derivative helper over a 3-hour period) and humidity from a bme280; mostly relying on chatgpt for the algorithm
has some obvious issues (chatgpt included some extra stuff in there that it didn't end up using, also I doubt the thresholds it selected for low pressure and rate of change are correct) but I'm excited to see how it compares to the accurite weather station it's pulling the temperature and humidity data from
🤣💀
Paint me like one of your French poodles
So I went ahead and did the tuya-convert thing from a docker (was really pretty easy) but it ended up reporting that the device was non-esp32. It reported only one MAC address though (probably my phone so not sure they even connected to the AP). Oh well.. back they go.
Now that I certainly have more android tv devices then displays
Can someone provide some links for smart plugs that they know work well with HA without too much fuss ? Maybe something on AliExpress ?
waiting for the aqara fp3 to come back in stock on amazon, need a bunch of those. I don't think there are any other battery operated pir/mmwave sensors out there?
You could ask in #1284966353798697001 with the recommendations tag.
Sorry, this channel is for serious conversations about raccoons only
Silly conversations about possums also permitted
how cool is that lol
And naps.
Because it's always nap time unless it's bed time
the difference between the solar power generated by my panels after i cleaned them last night (wish i could make these in HA more easily :P)
You mean like this?
yeah 👀
my internet connection is down, now I cannot change the thermostat at home
because I have been a fool XD
(I cannot access HA via LAN due to firewalling)
Check out ApexCharts and if you have any questions #1284965988642590891 the option you want though is offset: "-1d"

It's finally happened. I've officially kicked Alexa out of my home for being annoying and useless.
Working on it... For now all the automations, reminders and other stuff using alexa media player need to be rewritten to use tts or similar.
Seriously, how a global IT company that runs literally half the internet can suck at AI that much is beyond me.
Actually, come to think of it, if one looks at their attrocious rufus, that explains a lot.

So it looks like I need to build a few simple smart speakers now, because outfitting my whole house with extra sonos speakers would break the bank...
Hey folks! Has anyone successfully set up a smart “home” network (home assistant or otherwise) in their office, specifically at an on-site job (ie your office on company property).
Did you need to get IT involved? Would I be able to do this with a cheap WiFi router? I could even defer all control to buttons/devices in the room, rather than needing to go through some web server or something.
I suppose everything would have to be local control only, unless I could get permission from IT to allow my local (office) network to connect to the web
I didn't because I am IT.
As an IT security professional, I can say hackjobing something like that is definitely a bad idea. Consumer-grade home automation equipment isn't built to corportate IT security standards. If you'd really want to do that, you'd have to turn to professional building automation, because having consumer-grade automation in your system would be a veritable security nightmare. It's all about attack surface. Imagine one of the new stealth warships with all angled surfaces to reduce radar cross-section, and mounting a big, fat, round water tank on top. Or, perhaps imagine a bank with a multi-ton super-secure vault door installing a regular wooden door next to it so the cleaners can get in and out. The only way I could see that is if it was 100% separated from any and all of the corporate network, and even then stuff like voice assistants and whatnot would be and absolute No-No in a corporate environment.
That’s what I was assuming. And your analogy makes perfect sense.
I do work at a church that does a lot of technology integration in house (the team I just joined). Maybe they know of something I could set up.
But, sticking with consumer stuff, If I take my own router, and only plug it into the power outlet, then connect all the wireless stuff to only it, I could get a Bluetooth device that could serve as the trigger when my phone connects…… could something like that work? I’d have to stick to brands that don’t require any kinds of accounts (i am totally ok with that… practice for my own home network)
Would that be a viable setup? Would I even need the WiFi router?
Maybe you should go a little more into the details of what you are trying to achive.
Good call. Mostly lighting. I want to walk in the room and have lights turn on. I could just use an occupancy sensor as trigger and have it completely “phone free”.
So “entrance controlled” lights on. And the ability to change colors/brightness or other settings, even if only presets.
If that's what you want, I'd either semi-smart bulbs with integrated PIR sensor, or if you INSIST on making your life difficult, you could try something like Switchbot which works on bluetooth alone.
You could also turn to a philips hue system which at least when I last checked happily worked without an internet connection. A little TPLink wifi-to-lan bridge could probably bridge the gap to your phone, but I haven't tried that particular use case yet.
Maybe they've even enabled the wifi radios in their bridges by now, who knows?
(yes, hue bridges DO have wifi built in, Philips just never bothered to fix their firmware to use it. Some people have even managed to hack their bridges to enable it)
Hmmm.
I know that our house has motion sensing bulbs that work on “radar”, but they are only on for maybe 30 seconds at a time, and require constant close motion to stay on.
I guess they make PIR sensors for things like LED strips too, right? I’ll want to have some of those as well.
From what you’re saying, it sounds like my particular application isn’t really covered by most consumer products.
I had been wondering if there was any use of Home Assistant in a thing that is Not A Home, like corner shops or other places where you won't have some dedicated facilities contract and a lot of the fittings are more home-like
i had my winter tires fitted by a local shop in stead of the dealer. They didn’t bother balancing my tires
so anoying
free massage tho
excellent choice of gif
not sure if allowed, im building Home assistant in proxmox and looking for wha the recommended base is
proxmox/ubuntu/docker Home Assistant
proxmox/Home Assistant OS/HomeAssistant
thanks
Not a support channel, but it really depends if you want to manage addons or not, if you don't mind managing them do the container, if you want a more curated experience do the OS
dont mind managing the containers and might move them around (3 node cluster) but i understand that updates are a pain when that is done?
would i be able to ets say run a Frigate in host 1 but home assistant in Host 2?
You'll want to make a post in #1284966540617449515 about this
Proxmox and ha OS is popular. For anything more see tediore’s comment
yes it’s also VERY accurate lol
Hi I'm not sure if this fits any channel, does someone know how to reverse engineer a communication protocol? I have an HVAC system with a dumb wall controller, they communicate over RS485. I want to begin with something relatively easy and passive like reading the temperatures, and then get to things like creating controls for home assistant
I have two MAX485, some arduinos, raspberry pi and esp32-cam for now but I will order a normal esp32
I've connected one MAX485 to the interface passively and I have some hex data but I'm not sure how to time the packets and stuff like that
and I can't really find the temperatures in these packets even when they are updated
#the-workshop would be the place
Hey guys, I'm having some issues installing HOAS on an old laptop. could anyone point me to the right channel to get help with that?
thank you
Hi everyone. I don’t think this is the right place to post this so if I’m wrong just call me an idiot and I’ll move elsewhere.
I’m wanting to play a sound through my Google nest speakers. I have them in my HA already but idk how to do media player. I’ve done research I see that everywhere but I can’t really find it. I found it in states but it doesn’t really seem to me what I’m after. Any ideas?
Edit: for instance I want to play a song at a specific time of day.
Google Cast integration
Use Music Assistant in an automation to play the song
I’m not seeing that as an option
Music Assistant is a seperate addon you need to install
also has an integration alongside it
Ok I see it. I’ll play around with that. Thank you!
Greetings
I'm super new and I've tried using AI to help me which failed as it keeps referring to old documentation. Can someone shave time off my struggle and help this be fun?
Are the options only Sonos or diy?
That's what I have so far. What other options did you have in mind?
Hi all, new to all this. About a year now and have come across a problem that i cant solve. Not sure where is best to post so thought I’d try in here first.
Basically the time in home assistant has gone funny. So for instance it currently 7:47 and HA thinks it 7:25.
No idea how this happened, but when i check logs to see if things are triggering all the times are incorrect and there for not starting automations at the right time. I have checked my time zone and all is ok.
Any idea?

Hi
Figured I will have to use my spare time today to setup tailscale rather than openvpn from my nas today, still cannot reach HA using my VPN

can report that tailscale works flawlessly to access HA
using Headscale on my VPS with pub IPv4
Awesome! Do you have it running via proxmox perhaps?
Ooh okay, still looking for a proper specialneeds guide
also you can't install anything on your HA right now
I guess because of the cloudflare debacle
did you use the community script for your proxmox setup?
I did yeah! But I was dumb enough to upgrade to proxmox 9 so lots of the helper scripts aren't working anymore
I figured, my mates were complaining about this just now haha
i also upgraded to proxmox 9 before i installed HA but had no problem with the script

Because I don't want 500 icons
Lmaooooo true true
For stuff installed, sure
Idk an icon font isn't that massive
They could locally cache the icons I suppose
At least the icons that are being actively used
This I agree with
yea exactly
and what are even 1000 icons of a few kb on your local storage compared to hundreds being pulled thousand of times a day
like, that must be so much wasted energy globally
my SSD is powered on regardless
In the meanwhile, my biggest conplaint is the way the GUI is changing inside making automations

i was able to install the ZHA integration
Editting automations on the go is very icky rn
Super annoying tbh
now it takes ages for my first zigbee device. Idk if it's normal of it needs to pull its device info from somewhere remote, too
Shouldn't
Should be local
I got downvoted to hell when I commented on reddit that I hate the new GUI

On PC it's nice
yaml4lyfe
Its "alright"
I mean, first mistake is editing automations on mobile
Not like it was better before
Nah, some people aren't as active with pc's than others
Sure, but people that use home assistant
I dare suggest that people who use HA skew towards Battlestations rather than Mobile
oké they rebalanced my tyres the vibrations are almost gone but turns out one rim is bent
Same here bromie, front wheel got a uppie bump, there are almost no companies here in the region who fix it
Ha, yeah my desktop in HA is called gamestation
i don’t believen them lol so i am going for a second opinion
the car didn’t have this before the swap
bending a rim is something you HAVE to notice lol
Oh I thought you meant the bike, theres quite a lot of garages who can fix that for quite cheap, but for bikes theres only 1 or 2 companies here who do it
nooo my car. unfortunately
Luckily car rims are cheaper tho
They forgot to plug in my tyre pressure sensors for the third year in a row when swapping on winter tyres. Never attribute to malice..etc
are they lol
nah they balanced them trice. i’ll go for a second opinion regardless
Yeaaaaah, aftermarket car rims will set you back like 50-100 a piece, meanwhile mine for the bike costs 300-500

Ahhhh fair nuf
those aftermarket rims are the ones that get all bent to hell and back by simply driving
i’ll probably opt to either getting this one fixed or getting OEMs
which ever makes my want to cry the least
Ehhhhhhh
I am not home all the time
So often a phone is used for some stuff

dang, never thought that adding a PIR sensor and automating my light would feel so premium
ad it's easy af to setup
just a shame that the PIR sensor reports "active" for too long
gotta set the light to turn off immediatly
How do I see the changelog in the home assistant developer builds?
Latest releases for homeassistant/home-assistant on Docker Hub. Latest version: 2025.12.0.dev202511180240, last published: November 18, 2025
I am tweaking already
i used to live in 010 but i moved away about 7 years ago lol
Poah
ahahah i can do it faster, allegedly
Got to remember it’s not always a complicated problem. Spent a day trying to get HA to recognise a Zigbee Dongle and the issue turned out to be a fault in the extension cable 🤦♂️
@mossy flame maybe thats your issue as well
Nah
I don't need an extension
But still, the wifi chip(onboard) won't send out bt info to the os
So I guess it might be dying
Just like that usb port
ahhh, wait it was a wifi/bt chip in one

Yes many devices have one in this day and age
I'll wait and see, tomorrow a nvme comes in so I can swap to a more modern device anyway
Will restore from before 2025.11.2 and go from there
Nuc has been serving me since 2015, so it's not surprising it's on its last legs
The https://discord.com/channels/330944238910963714/1440400734062645360 thread is now open for y'all to share the upcoming holiday deals on smart home hardware.
This will be the pinned post in #1284966353798697001 until the deals stop flowing.
What in the port layout?
Internal HDMI... is this for a kiosk?
Passthrough 🤨
Interesting guess but... pass-through from what?
Who knows, kiosks have some weird stuff going on, bringus studios does videos on that sorta stuff from time to time
Ah okey
Server thingy so it's just for debugging but still funny
As long as it doesn't use 12V HPWR it is a win in my book!
I think it has
Article mentioned 12V 2x6
Which could be anything really
Speaking of which I should really grab a new PSU, mine is well out of warranty now, and I guess it has degraded a little component wise
Hopefully 2 standard pcie power jobbies
so it doesn't set on fire
Kinda reminds me of a PC case I once had for a VR PC that had HDMI on the front panel. Fun times
Does it turn off your breaker when plugging in? Mine does that now lol
That sounds lovely tbh
Haha it is not that bad!
That’s just the magic smoke generator. it’s a feature
It is a corsair AX850, the original one
I've got an original Silverstone Strider 850
It has seen more than 850W back in the day
I had to retire a UPS that rebooted hard when my PC shut down
Ever had a ground issue where if you dropped something on your desk the PC would just shut off
Fun stuff to figure out
2015, R9 295X2 and i7 7700K, so good
Back in my heavy gpu compute days, I had an APC UPS that screamed in agony when I exceeded its rated power
Whole setup like this can't even encode h.265 i think
I don't think so
I am still rocking my RX 6600 GPU unfortunately I had to buy it when the GPU prices were high
Only sad thing is no hardware av1 encoding
Any iGPU? My N100 Server can do that?
But then its software based encoding
Intel supports av1 hardware encoding for a while now
My AMD iGPU does not for example
Ah yeah AMD has always been weird about that
I just bought a cheap Intel arc 380 and I use that for video encoding on my server
I am so excited about the announcement tomorrow I hope they announce a new voice related device
Ah sad
It looks like a paper towel holder, smells like it and tastes like it. You know what it will be!
A robot vacuum with a warning light, so you don't stumble over it.
Need a robot vacuum: New York edition. “Watch it buddy, I’m cleaning here!”
A zwave stick but this time it's as long as the Eifel tower
-# I know you can hear the sound now.
What about a warning possum?
I was thinking that I can hear that despite the silent GIF, and then I realized that I have no idea what possums sound like
I believe it’s saying “watch it buddy, I’m riding here”
- Possums Make a Clicking Sound to Attract Mates
But officer, she was literally asking for it!
i have the same with this
Mh. Do you guys think a petition to viessmann for opening API to control the heat pump and vicare products locally would have any success? Especially in light of the current cloudflare outage making it impossible to remotely control their products because their app doesn't work?
no
no there is no advantage for the shareholders
here's hoping some open system exists if I ever plan to build my own home
Viessman is too long in the business and too German to do that. Look at Bosch, that their smart-home stuff barely connects to anything but theirs is a miracle
well, sadly the only company that replied for the installation in my current home makes viessmann installations only - not that I could find one that allows access
I still write them e-mails with my hopes, wishes and misgivings, not that they would care to answer them
could of course try with an EU petition but I doubt that it would garner enough interest because it's fairly niche
Well Eltako recently surprised me with them joining "Works with Home Assistant" their HQ is just few km from me and I thought they wouldn't be that open either, so surprises can happen lol
a more generic petition to EU to stop this issue happening in the first place by forcing local control on xyz devices. might get some traction. but it will also likely go nowhere.
I'm not socially active enough to give an impetus but I'd certainly sign it and share it in my circles
I'm also kinda miffed about having 2 parallel zigbee meshes that interfere with each other and wifi
although first they need to fix their USB regulations. if they tell companies to use USB-C etc... they must enforce that they use it as per detailed in the usb spec.
you mean the weird trend of having USB-C 2.0?
companies suck
EU: "you must use usb-c"
company: just chop off x connector and put a usb-c connector on there
Any recommendations for an LED strip/controller that works with HA and doesn't require a cloud API? <Glares at Govee>
now instead of having a bunch of different chargers that only 1 fits and works with your device. you now have a bunch of chargers that all fit and look the same but only 1 of them works. and 1 or 2 of them might blow your device up.
Hi-Speed, Higher-Speed, More-Higher-Speed, Really-High-Speed
I've got a cheapo LED work lamp, it only likes the most craptacular charging setup, I know exactly what you mean
need people making the rules that understand the implications of the rules...
did Spain fix that issue with half the internet getting turned off during football matches yet?
I hope it doesn't affect the F1 GP next year lol
broadcaster complained and convinced judge to block pirate streaming sites by ip during matches. but some of the streams were behind cloudflare etc... so judge ordered cloudflares entire range (and others just using cloudflare as example) to be blocked during matches.
isp's did as they were told. and chaos was had. big airline lost all access to some of their systems. "sorry you missed your flight we would love to help get you on the next one but could you come back in 2 hours when the football has finished"
you cannot fix stupid
christ
That is something
Anything running WLED
i am not sure what CF did but the tunnels are garbage
We think it's pretty neat! It can be gang box mounted as well. We have both visualizations on our Apollo Wiki: https://wiki.apolloautomation.com/products/rpro1/setup/rpro1-general-tips/
Let me know if you have any questions!
gang box mounting is less appealing because i'd rather just have it in my light switch if i was planning on putting it on a wall anyways. ceiling mounted poe esphome presence sensors is theoretically the holy grail of home automation (in my opinion) but this product comes just a bit short because of the limited fov. if i'm going to mount something in my ceiling, i'd like it to be able to detect presence in my entire room
I’m happy with my hue bridge pro, but there’s really nothing I can do with my old bridge (besides sell), right?
So confused, going to sign up for Frigate+ but then the warning says it doesn't support facial recognition, but when you look at the documentation it does...
The visibility isn't the concern
Sorry the word appealing probably gave off the wrong impression lol
I just mean that if I'm going to put something on a wall, I have no reason not to use one of the dozens of mmwave light switches on the market now
And if I'm going to put it on the ceiling, I'd like the detection coverage to actually cover the whole room instead of just a rectangle
Which is why I said that product was almost a holy grail product, it checks a lot of boxes (PoE, ESPHome, ceiling mount) but doesn't check the last one I actually care about (actually detecting the whole room)
Doesn't have to be perfect 180 lol it's on the ceiling
But it also doesn't have to be a rectangle where one dimension has a lower FOV than the other
(which makes sense for a wall mounted mmwave sensor, just makes less sense for ceiling mount imo)
The point isn't the number being high
The point is not having a sensor that can detect 150 degrees in one orientation and 120 in another
Or whatever the real numbers are
I mean some products (i recently installed a rheem heaatpump waterheate for someone) it has wifi and etc. but learned after the fact it has an RS485 "debug" service port thing that can also be used to control it.. and someone has already documented it and etc. 😄
do the RF sorcery yourself.. make a flex pcb. 😛
Look at Quinled controllers.
govee's matter supported devices. 🙃
I think viessmann has only an optolink interface
https://deploy-preview-2737--esphome.netlify.app/components/optolink.html
looks like that alaready exists?
Instructions for setting up an Viessmann® heating component via an Optolink adapter in ESPHome.
dig a little.. alot of these things people have already gone and done the old thanos.
Well, I’ll need to dig into it, but setup with optolink is a bit more involved
And I was under the impression that optolink was read only
https://github.com/openv/openv/wiki/
judging by this.. doesn't seem like it has to be? 🤷♂️
More in the sense of having to slap parts on it I don’t have lying around, I don’t tinker around much. Would have preferred using the existing LAN module
Openv can only listen in on the zigbee devices
Iirc
This wiki collects information about the Vitotronic heating controls. The focus is on the PC connection Optolink interface. All system parameters can be read or set via this interface. This includes, for example, temperature measurements, device states and settings but also switching times and consumption data. Depending on the application, far-reaching possibilities open up:
read?
looks like the esphome component also has setting/selecting stuff too...
so probably depends on the hardware used.
I've offically delegated my gaming GPU to sit here and idle for a local LLM :/ 7900xtx :/
My eyes are not awake enough yet, I’ll sift through it later if I find sime spare time and motivation to get into it again
I only know that when I first looked jnto it, there was optolink and listening in on the zigbee devices which require additional stuff I don’t have or don’t solve the issue with coexisting independent networks
In the end I’m looking for a satisfactory solution and am annoyed that viessmann seems to be hostile in that regard
And it’s hard for me to find motivation for more involved projects that require tinkering
an LED and a phototransistor is.. pretty low level tinkering.. 🤣
and also..
welcome to basically all companies with only a few not in this.
I also wanted to check if I can use the service password for anything
I’m at a very early stage in this 🥲
And I’m not exactly brimming with motivation and drive to do things
.... welcome to homeassistant tinkering. 😛
its only gonna get done if you want it done.
... and looking over at #the-workshop where someones discussing working on decrypting the RS485 protocol of their other sorta system to deal with things.. oof
Thanks. I also need to work on myself for it, but that’s just how it is
🤷♂️ such is how a lot of these things go..
i have waaay too many incompleted things
Huh, sure is taking a long time to process this command in this raspberry pi I'm SSH'd into...
yeah, it's time to go to bed.
Waiting for the SSH timeout.
yuuup. 😄
oh well. pihole v6 needs something with a little more oomph than a Pi 3 B+ anyway. Time to put it on a Pi 5.
I bought another one specifically for this lol
Interesting. Orange. Is the color of the dutch royal house. We use it for football and other stuff. But now the next WK the dutch royal house has two counties to cheer for.
WK?
I guess football/soccer world cup is meant.
Wereldkampioenschap: World Cup
Anyone using any EPG integrations or just using webview?
integrations seems like an overkill, then again I can't find a site without ads 🙁
My Tado Wireless Receiver X broke and my house has been freezing for 2 days ffs
Have you found anything?
At this point I'd be considering jumping the wires myself to command heat
brrr
or setting them on fire
iirc shelly has some
Those are the correct numbers. To our knowledge the LD2412's FOV of 150 is one of the widest available. The LD2450 has an FOV of 120. In our testing of the HLK mmWave sensors, they are actually surprisingly close to 180 of detection, but they don't promote that. There is also a vertical angle of around 70. It should easily cover most normal rooms. Here is a better visualization.
Wait so it's 150 in a cone shape and the different fov's are just the different sensors? I'm a little bit confused, the last time I looked at the docs it seemed like the sensors were orientation sensitive
Have you bought them? I know there's a lot out there, but I don't trust it. I bought Tado because it's a trusted brand
Yes, it comes standard with the LD2450 which has a cone shape FOV of 120 and 70. You can add the optional LD2412 for 150 and 70. They both work together. The LD2412 seems to better with static detection specifically.
120 and 70 meaning that it's not a pure cone shape? What I'm trying to figure out is if I have a square room at roughly the maximum dimensions of the sensor, am I going to have to choose a portion of the room that I need to just accept will have weaker detection than the same areas in line with the sensor orientation?
That's what I mean and what I'd like to avoid in a ceiling mounted sensor. It just seems like a waste to go through the effort of putting something in the ceiling if it's not gonna actually be able to uniformly cover the whole room
To my knowledge it is a cone/oval shape with a 120 degrees of horizontal FOV and 70 degrees of vertical FOV. It is mostly represented in the image above, but also imagine if this new image was combined.
For some reason my Sonoff 5.8ghz sensor detects me when I stand behind it lol
It's got that 360 tech yo
It is scary. Haha.
And I really dont want it to...
Another one.
ok i'm still confused but is this a publicly available tool?
Which tool?
the one this is a screenshot of with the sensor fovs and coverage zones
i have not yet
Since Tado X uses Matter, can we just use HA?
probably. I do not have the X
I have the X
I bought the X because it has Matter
These are generated in GPT and Claude using the sensor's datasheets. No specific tool or anything. Although, that would be incredibly useful if you could input your room dimensions and show the different sensor FOV's... Hmm... Do you know any good UI people?
Fake News
Home Assistant Connect ZBT-2
- Chipset: Silicon Labs EFR32MG24 (Zigbee 3.0 & Thread)
- USB bridge: ESP32‑S3 (USB‑serial)
- Antenna: High‑performance, optimized for 2.4 GHz — up to 4.16 dBi gain for improved coverage
- Software support: ZHA, Zigbee2MQTT, and OpenThread Border Router
- Design: Meticulously manufactured to hold two rolls of fluffy toilet paper
(would be kind of sad if it doesn‘t support Zigbee 4.0 and Suzi/Zigbee Sub-Ghz, guess that will be the ZBT-3)
Doesn't mentioned paper towels
Zigbee 4.0 was just announced yesterday 😂
And I can‘t find a supported chipset. But it does feel kind of sour buying a product without the newest standard.
it doesn't mean chipsets or devices will be available right away
obligatory would you say it doesn't matter to you?
why
wtf I thought Thread and Matter were making Zigbee obsolete?
no?
Why are there so many competing standards
It's rude to make assumptions. 😉 Just tune in today, y'all.
Curious to know where you got those specs, though.
I‘m sorry. I was just repeating something I saw in youtube chat and wondering wether is was true. Will definitely tune in today. :3
I'm using matter-hub to expose HA devices to Google Home which is pretty cool
that's my only experience with
though
it’s also forcing me to rebuild my network which is even more infuriating to me
I ditched the Google Assistant integration as a result
Rob should tell his story about getting Matter to work. 😂
I also made it hard on myself on purpose because I like pain
I insisted on doing everything manually with containers on a Debian server, which...isn't recommended
only docket makes me hard
a side effect is that I'm now fully ipv6 compliant on my home network and local servers
Is there a way to to turn on a area but exclude one device?

i must admit that i have completely disabled ipv6 so ill never get it working
I need to set it up again since I switched to PPP directly on my router instead of the ISP box
I did get ipv6 working but had to disable it again because it basically bypassed my dns level filtering on some stuff.
i am sure i could get it mostly working again but it wasnt worth the effort for me at the time.
Evening everyone
new pages on the website ready to be switched on?
Raccoon Army....Assemble!
anyone have xsense smoke detectors? surely this should have triggered it right lol😂 I had tested it over thicker smoke too but didn't snap a photo
lol I made sure to have smoke enter the vents as well. manufacture date is 2025. figured I'd do a "real world" test despite the test function saying all was well
So you’re why ipv6 rollout has been so slow
Everyone is waiting for Suf to turn on IPv6.
Network Influencers have too much power
if it were up to me we’d skip ipv6 altogether
Go straight to ipv8
indeed
I want a rackmount switch just to get more blinking lights, am I mad?
ip7of9
ipv67
Yes
want lights?
why is there a naked woman on your rack
got no clothes maybe?
hey, I was just testing my 3D printer, alright?
yeah clothes are hard to make
needs more diffuser
still playing around with it, today implemented that ledfx sh*t to work with line in and send it to wled. What a mess... Will try your suggestion tomerrow 😉
New to HA, and looking at getting some stuff for automations. In my AliExpress cart now, I have some Matter smart plugs. I also put a zigbee dongle in there cause I am a bit annoyed that I can't just go to Ikea and buy stuff I may want to use (I know the DIRIGERA hub can do matter, but I wouldn't buy that).... I heard that the plugs, etc, will eventually be matter-only in summer 2026 - is it still worth getting the dongle (seems to be about 15$) ?
ideally you'd have aluminum channels to help dissipate heat plus they come with a diffuser to give you a better stream of light. it wont be perfect without deep channels though you'll still have the circles and dead spots
i think some silicone diffuser for the leds would be better here
https://www.amazon.com/BTF-LIGHTING-Silicone-Flexible-Spotless-Installation/dp/B0FPFT1RGW?th=1 they make lots of different shapes and sizes
yeah agree, but black alu frofiles are placed with black fiffs
ah ok
its hard to see, but that was the plan.
ya dude you are missing all the switchports
Plan is to hook up my vinyl record database to do a voice search (ok nabu, pink floyd album pulse) and let wled pinpoint roughly where it sits in the cabinet. At least that is the goal here.
haha that's crazy but sounds cool
what if you paired it with a matrix panel that displayed the album art of the song playing
album art already displayed on picoreplayer and 2nd display on amplifier 😉
married, so...
everyone needs a matrix tho
I'll just leave this here
NO SPOILERS!
sowwy
its a candle
what is dis and why is it black
This is the question I'm holding out to know the answer to as well! I dont see alternative colors available at any of the resellers.
Paper towel holder
Just a lighting illusion. The device is white.
is it like the dress
1? You need multiple
Network hardware should be neither seen, nor heard
If you can see the blinkenlights, they're far too close to you 😉
now they tell me
its bigger
Something something wavelength
i cant find anything on it
If none of these seem to fit what you are looking for
Head to this channel to get pointed in the right direction. #find-a-channel
so for ZBT-2, we need to migrate each device individually? at least if you're on z2m?
IIRC, no. Migration docs will follow soon. #1284966617670881350 can help with details.
do the .1+ releases follow a schedule?
edit: they're released on fridays
how did I just learn that it's possible to convert those cheap little square Xiaomi thermometers from Bluetooth to Zigbee OTA??
that's so sick
i flashed the pvvx custom firmware on them years ago but obviously i'm gonna switch them to zigbee
I also just learned that 0.9 repeating is equal to 1 which kind of blew my mind
Huh? How did you go through school without encountering that?
I thought that it wasn't equal but rather a limit?
Like how as x approaches 0, 1/x approaches infinity.
It's like, one step away from the fundamental theorem of calculus.
Ayyy, I had my first failure of a previously decent Tuya (zigbee) device. A smart plug decided it was going to keep going offline. It has now been replaced by a thirdreality one.
its "snowing' a little bit and the entire country descend into chaos lol
What is a "decent tuya device" lol
the one that is in the trash
Are blueprint suddenly broken? I had a blueprint for my hue switch on the hue integration. But now when I want to use it it doesnt show the switches in the dropdown is this something specific for hue other model name or something or did something change for blueprint in the last few patches?
Found it, EDIT: for some reason the model changed from Hue dimmer switch (RWL021) to Hue dimmer switch 🥹
#1284980040940912641 might know.
Maybe you knew about it, but the author of the renowned site haveibeenpwned.com website uses HA : https://www.troyhunt.com/home-assistant-ubiquiti-ai-home-automation-magic/
He surely uses Password123 to secure it
HUNTer2
all i see is asterisks

Please don't type your passwords openly.
I went the extra mile and just put tablets in every room on the walls 😛
Pixel density is a bit nicer haha
These are still fun I wouldn’t replace a tablet with them but still like the options
You can do some cool stuff with the esphome firmware too
Ah! The hockey score is nice haha
Hi everyone, I'm new to Home Assistant. I just got it installed on my server the other day and found it comes with a todo list, which I instaltly started using and love better than Google Keep. I also created an account for my woman to get her on, but we can see each others notes. How do I make it so we can choose what notes are shared and what notes aren't?
Their zigbee devices are mostly decent, if you can get past pairing hurdles. I use their temp/humidity sensors and their buttons all over the place. Definitely prefer thirdreality devices for things like bulbs and now smart outlets though.
Mind you, they're only decent because of the quirks that automatically fix them. They break spec like nobody's business.
Philips/Signify released a Zigbee device (Hue Secure Siren and Chime) that uses all custom shit instead of the standard things that already exist in the Zigbee spec lol
Ooooooof course they did.
Philips always broke standards
This was another level though
Look at the amount of quirks their Gradient Lightstrips need
Yeah the secure stuff is worse tbf
I will say, it was fun to reverse engineer though, so I guess I'll thank them for that...?
how dare you!?
now its not "secure!" anymore!
It was supposed to be secure for their shareholders!
FOOL!
Welcome to German documentation standards
Dont know what i hate most right now... my last beer went into my pc, so mobile for now...
Think the last beer bothers most
I wouldn't trust a drunk PC to be very reliable
I'm sorry for your loss
What if I am drunk too?
Were sorry
Then you have entered alc the right way, as i should have done too lol
Quickly.
Guys GUYS MATTER 1.5
Quickly, sadly wrong destination
WOHOO!
Theres a reason why I dont buy their shit
🤣
Hue stuff is probably the most solid from a big player on the market
Beer intrusion point... hairdryer, qtips and toiletpaper... powering up now.. fingers crossed
bloody thing survived... hardcore
Just had to sleep it off
🙂
Given it was water but I had a fridge bust its water line and poor through a projector. Stupid thing still works
this is now years later too
yeah water would be ok, but sodas and beer will eat the board away over time
same as cat pee
the shelly pre black friday sales are really shit. it's like they marked up the price prior to slapping a meager discount on to it
