S3 is NOT a standard. just because it works with AWS it does not mean that it will work with other so called "s3 compatible" providers this in practice means a bunch of hacks would have to be put in to make it work with specific providers so it was decided to keep it clean and keep it AWS and if other providers with different protocol setups want to use it people can fork and tweak it for them

but basically during the 2025.5 beta it was noted how non-standard S3 is and the decision was made to keep everything seperate.

Hello! New here - just bought a house and the old owner transferred the home assistant over (at least we think he transferred ownership…) anyway, the app is not working and it’s telling me to check connection. Have no idea what I’m doing and I have no information from the old owner about the account credentials… just my own name as a user.
I am leaning towards disconnecting everything (from the physical devices as I have no access to the app) and starting from scratch with Google Home or Home Assistant.
Any advice?

so I would do two things. make note of every device including whatever it is that is running Home Assistant. Then make a post in #1284966540617449515 asking how to reinstall or reset Home Assistant with said device running it. At that point someone will be able to help walk you through it, or the very least point you to a page that helps you

A pi works out there, but reading over these docs it needs quite a bit of CPU to do event detection.
Although...a Pi wouldn't have much storage...guess I could do like a USB hard drive.

Operating temperature spec for the pi is up to 70°C / 158°F apparently.
It probably won't appreciate it, but with a fan I don't think you'd kill it too quickly

Yeah, Wifi at all is a challenge. I was using Cox's "hotspot" but that's not always reliable. Right now it's tethered to a closeby neighbor but the signal isn't great.
