restive rain
#

tbh, scheduling is easier on the phone

#

#

no, they don't have a real online scheduling system with a calendar to pick from

clear ferry
#

I have just clicked on a calendar to schedule car maintenance the last 10+ years

#

then I just drop off the keys in the morning and come back later

restive rain
#

right, ideally i'd just wait there for like 1-2h and pick it back up

#

its at the other end of the city, getting home from there by public transport takes like an hour anyways

clear ferry
#

ah yeah, for short stuff like that i just sit in the lobby drinking free coffee and doing online stuff

I really haven't called anything in close to a decade thankfully

#

everything is digital and online

there is nothing really to service, its a 2 year old EV

#

clear ferry
#

not sure about the service interval of brake fluid etc on the modern EVs, I only had a full EV for 2 years, now I have a hybrid which has a full service every 12 months

restive rain
#

meh, brake fluid is usually "change it if there are problems"

#

tho some manufacturers now probably want to change that regularly, to still make some money on service

#

b/c there is no more oil to change

#

on my BMW it was changed once in like 15 years, when the brake lines were redone

clear ferry
#

I drove a lot of single pedal for the EV, so had to change the brakes once on that car even in that short period

restive rain
#

I try to be good about that and switch to 0 regen every now and then

#

if they want to sell me new discs I'll decline and have them checked independently, my dealership is sleazy

clear ferry

restive rain

#

hey everyone, i had a question for you guys. I'm trying to do something a bit different. I am trying to toy with the idea of putting a security camera inside my vehicle that would then use the starlink that is setup in my vehicle.
the issue with this is, starlink does not give a static IP, and uses some IP sharing setup, and even DyDNS wont work from what I am seeing.

So the idea is to try to use a camera that is client-to-server, meaning, the camera is the one initializing the communication to the server.

I know these type of cameras are frowned upon for power users who know better. My home has real cameras, on POE, with a NVR in home. I can't do this with the camera in my car.

So I am leaning to a different solution, such as a blink cam or something similar.

Anyone have any ideas. comments, suggestions around this topic?

But ALL those adapters are SATA on the non-drive side, so I need a miniSAS to 4x SATA breakout cable. But I already have a miniSAS to 4xSAS breakout cable that will also accept SATA style power connectors. Why can't there just be a single miniSAS to 4x22pin SAS connectors with 90Β° connectors!? unborn merlin

that aren't properly directly connected in my opinon

that is the new style that basically all homes use now

peak slate
unborn merlin

because we know better.

#

our goddamn shed in the backyard has a fucking ridgeline vent

which is hilarious

#

because its a shed.. its alraedy very porous..

peak slate

They have it in work and take it seriously

primal laurel
peak slate
#

Which is also $$$ to deal with constantly

forest edge
#

if thats the case that alone is the cause of your flir image

#

dead space attics are meant to be a thermal barrier between the livable upper floor and the outside. they are meant to get extremely hot but not trap air. it's suppose to circulate air between the soffit and the high end of the roof pitch

#

course they were originally designed for asphalt shingles but work just as well for metal roofs as well

forest edge
primal laurel
#

Lung cancer

forest edge
#

asbestos used to come in many different forms from compressed (like exterior shingles) to blown in like typical insulation and even a spray. commercial buildings still have and utilize existing spray asbestos today cause unlike other stuff, it dosen't break down and become obsolete

#

the whole health scare is from people treating it like they treat everything else.. without any care

#

but as a material it's still very good at what it does

primal laurel
#

It causes cancer when you breath it in. The fibres are invisible

forest edge
#

so don't snort it

unborn merlin
#

except

forest edge
#

and besides.. in today's world.. what doesn't cause cancer?

unborn merlin
#

they didnt insulate the knee-walls

#

they insulated the fucking roof

#

not the living space of the attic

forest edge
#

you don't have insulation above the ceiling?

#

only in the rafters?

unborn merlin
#

do in the ceiling yes

#

but they didnt insulate the short walls in the attic

#

only the roof behind them

#

which... traps more heat?

primal laurel
#

That's why we stopped using it

unborn merlin
forest edge
unborn merlin
#

those walls are not insulated

forest edge
#

so yes to what I just said

unborn merlin
#

but the roof behind them is..

So.. roof heat in the summer just.. slowly bakes through and then permeates the walls..

#

I will be fixing that though..

#

rockwool and some reflective to keep it in placae..

#

can't fix the roof behind my sheetrock...

... not yet at least

#

that would require me ripping out the sheetrock temporarily.. and.. 😐

forest edge
#

those style homes were you basically have just shingles> underlayment> insulation> sheet rock and livable space is the trade off to what you are experiencing

#

only so much you can do

unborn merlin
#

well.

the attic was finished later in the construction

#

so.. the attic definitely couldve had proper insulation or a vent installed prior to finishing

forest edge
#

as in it was never meant to be finished off lol

unborn merlin
#

The hydronic heating doesnt work up here either

#

becauase its permanently air-locked

primal laurel
#

How much kW thermal Heat pump are you getting?

unborn merlin

because the fuckwits who installed it.. went up and over the ceiling with the water lines instead of under the floor where it would be less rise/pressure and got it permanently air-locked

Plasticine is used for children's play and as a modelling medium for more formal ...

understood. Some of my devices show up in github repositories with full integration built by some wonderful comunity member - I am guessing they will be available in HACS

dawn badge

so hacs has a default repo which custom integrations apply to be a aprt of which is what your searching but then there is custom stuff not on hacs default. you can add additional custom repos on hacs and use it to install them

Or, if you prefer a CLI and to install directly from a GitHub repo rather than a β€œstore”, I made unhacs.

dawn badge
#

i joke, i havent used it but its a cool tool with some nice options i can see being useful

austere anchor
#

I always look through the code for whatever I’m installing, so doing it right from the git URL is convenient for me.

Also, unhacs lets you install a component from a ha/core fork so you can easily test unreleased updates to a single component. I added it as a late addition, but it’s actually the thing I use the most.

dawn badge
austere anchor
#

Yep. That’s what I’ve used it for. Whenever I make a patch for my integrations, I can dog food it. I also share it for users to test.

#

It was annoying before to basically zip and scp or rsync the directory between machines and then remember to add a version to the manifest.

dawn badge
#

i havent really been in the position to use it. but its one of those tools that i know exists and if situation comes up i will probably try it
