Oh thats interesting
locally run, private voice assistant with m5stack atom echo, ollama running qwen 2.5, along with wyoming-whisper and wyoming-piper running locally on my desktop...
I am not pioneering anything... simply following the path that smarter people than me have put down.
WLED is super easy tbh
Yeah from what ive gathered so far it doesnt seem to complicated
But even if it is. I love projects like this ๐
my next projects for ESP are: mmWave radar sensor with humidity and temperature sensor, figure out what to display on my plenty Liligy S3s with T-Display ๐ a scale! and erm ... finishing my WLED cable salad with all those PSUs
OMG... so much to do ๐
@tidal bronzeready to go camping yet? https://giphy.com/gifs/l41Yp8HvXdUHMqgik
haha I have a big bag from TEMU here with like 100 items
thanks for reminding
same here ๐
I abandoned it for now
I tried messing with it in an attempt to get it to be the mic, but have a different speaker as the output... ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
Have you tried turning off and on again? ๐
lol
As you can see I work in IT Support ๐
I did manage to get it reset and install the correct package again. ๐
I made sure it was plugged in... dang it!
Nice ^^
๐
Is there a 45 degree LED Channel?
Not that the light should be angled at 45ยฐ but rather for a 45ยฐ corner. If you get what I mean ๐
-# pst, btw, we have #the-workshop for hardware convos. :3
Albright will make Sure to Post there in the Future ^^
No worries at all, I see you're new here. ๐
alot of smart bulbs out there, any one knows good deals going on right now for zigbee smart bulbs? and what happens if the switch gets turned off, does it come back to last state?
anybody know how to trigger automations from a voice assistant? I have been smashing my face against a wall all day...
voice assistant being local voice assistant pipeline using qwen 2.5 as conversation agent, whisper and piper, with an open wake word on an atom echo.
the sentence trigger in automations doesn't work
looking up intents, but documentation is really hard to grasp
I just posted a thread where you can find those deals: https://discord.com/channels/330944238910963714/1305621029976018984
Or even ask for help finding a deal. ๐
Ah, you're using an AI agent. External conversation agents can't be used to trigger those. https://www.home-assistant.io/docs/automation/trigger/#sentence-trigger
External conversation agents such as OpenAI or Google Generative AI cannot be used to trigger automations.
๐ต
Yeah, I know, I ran into the same problem this weekend.
lol
I set up Ollama locally and realized I couldn't do things I wanted to.
is there a way to first use qwen 2.5, then fall back to a built in voice assist for some things?
Not right now. I am not 100% sure on this, but I think it's being worked on.
We're doing a lot of work around voice because of the thing we may or may not be working on.
well, I think the work being done around voice is amazing, and I love it so far. I only wish I could digest the knowledge faster. lol
SAME
What it's really teaching me is that I need to make sure my entities have good names.
ugh, I have been STRUGGLING with that.
What I have been doing is asking the agent to do something and if it doesn't work I adjust the way the entity is named so it will work with my natural speech better. I bet I can do stuff with intents, too, but so far I don't need to.
I just started a post in voice-assistants for this... I included a video where they did trigger automations from voice. I have no idea how... but it does seem possible. (11:29 in the video)
I have ONE automation set up to specifically trigger on a sentence.
It used to be set up when a button is pressed on the dash, but I changed it to trigger when we say "turn on party mode". But I am back to the regular Assist agent right now.
I'm really hoping that this is something that is on the development priority list. it would really help with replacing the Alexa Routines... ๐
shouldn't this technically be under #the-workshop ? even with that said, this should really be it's own temp chat channel imo that way it just shows for everyone on the main listing on the left
till you made that post above I didn't know that exsisted lol
well thats why I said, even with that said
I would have missed that as well
I don't know if I should look for a wifi smart strip or something zigbee based
wow wifi it is.. the zigbee based ones all look like complete crap lol
that top comment made me laugh https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinfuriating/comments/m4bfii/when_a_plug_covers_the_outlet_next_to_it/
I use a 6 inch extension cord for power strips and oddly shaped plugs.
yea they call them oulet savers on amazon
less than a foot long
kind of shocked they don't make them even shorter than that
could always make your own. Bulk prices are pretty good (assuming you need enough). lol
so whats wrong with Tuya stuff?
Theyโre hit or miss.
so just cheap crap not like they have a catching fire or something problem
Correct. ๐
you never know
You have to have strong WiFi network to have them work consistently. Thatโs my biggest complaint with my Tuya lights.
I once got a free batch of power tools being tossed out by a company, turns out they were recalled because the batteries would randomly catch fire
nice tools, I still have a few
That's a hot deal...
but I accept that they were free, and that if i break one, its not the end of the world
but i got like 12 different drills
3rd degree burns compliments of <un-named company>
stick to JUST zigbee and everything should be ok
should LED strips be getting warm?
I use Zigbee, Z-wave, and some wifi... but for sure prefer Zigbee
I know my lamps are always warm but...
leds produce heat like everything else
Yes, LED strips get warm. I put mine in aluminum channel for both light diffusing effects and heat sink effects.
my walmart brand LED bulbs generate almost none
they read almost IR neutral
this TUYA LED strip however...
turn them on and recheck
mama mia
i have, they are little tiny light red dots on an otherwise blue field
the tuya strip is a solid line of bright orange
I tried to make dinner but the salsa jar wonโt open. I need to wait for my husband to come home from the weed shop to open it.
Itโs supposed to go in the beans.
Slap or stab it.
I did the smack a knife handle on it, smack it on the counter, AND handed it to my 10 year old on the off chance that he might be able to do it.
they make jar openers lol
If you stab the lid the vacuum should disappear. Maybe your jar is different than what I think of though.
Weโre convinced itโs sealed with dark Magic.
Itโs just a glass jar with a metal lid.
Why did my phone capitalize magic lol.
here comes santa clause here comes santa clause... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CN1SWP4V
HIGHER TORQUE: Robo Twist Deluxe is a newer and improved version of the original Robo Twist Jar Opener and Bottle Opener. With improved torque power you can easily open the tightest and toughest lids of any jars making Robotwist the best jar opener for weak hands and the best jar opener for senio...
replaced the chain, welded som grip to it...
reworked the motor for torque not speed
was fun
Yeah then I'd just stab it with a screwdriver or a knife I don't care about.
You could just break the glass
We all know Iโd cut myself and probably eat glass somehow.
This is hilarious lol. Love that you did this.
OH MY GODS HE CAME HOME AND JUST SLIGHTLY TWISTED IT AND IT OPENED WTF

run the lid under hot water = expand metal
uh... how long to exposed entities take for DIY voice assistant pipelines to recognize?
I added a few lights, and I can type to assist to control them, but not speak to control them "it doesn't appear there are any lights with that name"
The trick is to stab with two hands. Hold the knife with one hand on top of it, then gently slam your hand on the other hand.
How do I get the url of the photo I upload to media section?
you may need to be more specific...
this may be helpful: https://community.home-assistant.io/t/how-to-form-url-for-media/609622
example: if the image is at: \\<HA_IP>\config\www\images\myImage.png
you'd use the path: \local\myImage.png
We did this, too.
We can all agree here that you clearly did all the hard work and your husband simply completed the remaining 10%. lol
He opened it and goes, โThanks for loosening it.โ
giving credit where credit is due
Doesnt work for me :/
I find these things are quite effective: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00634DSMY
(or just use the crown cap opener hook on your can opener, if it has one of those)
Bend the lid enough to break the seal on the jar
Brix Original Jar Key, the Worldโs easiest jar opener, pops the vacuum seal of jar lids so they spin open freely. Finally, open those stubborn jars in a single action! No more twisting or gripping and straining hands! Jar Key (formerly Jar Pop) is endorsed by arthritis associations worldwide. Sim...
Yโall see why I keep the husband unit around, heโs quite useful. Heโs also tall and can reach things.
-# But I still have a stepping stool.
And heโs (probably) voice controlled! Pretty convenient.

anyone else's zigbee2mqtt stopped working after last update?
I would like to add the min & max values to the silder (number) entity such that the values are shown next to, or under, the slider itself.
I looked up the slider-entity-row in HACS, but that does do what I want.
Is there another card that I can do this with?
Anyone know of a matter-over-thread relay similar to Shelly 1 or Sonoff Mini?
If there isn't one available I can just use Shelly but I'd like to build out my thread network whenever possible
Wow, that does seem like a yet-to-exist market
I found one dimmer, no relays
(and the same device with 2 other different brand names on it)
that one looks real nice having an external antenna like that
Probably a good idea for something that'll be stuffed inside a wall
i just want one for my garage door opener lol
i've got Inovelli switches on the way for my lights
Anyone here have an idea on how to automate turning stove/oven/range knobs?
So far, I only found these two smart devices, Vertical Smarturns and Ome Smart Knobs:
https://www.tochtech.com/store-smarturns-vertical/
https://www.omekitchen.com/products/gen-1-smart-knob
You probably want to ask in #1284966353798697001 with the recommendations tag
yaay.. now all my cameras are properly fed with microSD cards
Well fed cameras are happy cameras
Holy hell those look dangerous
I may be blasphemous, but IMO there is a very short list of things that should not be automated
for some reason my home assistant server isnt starting up?
it says [warn] home assistant cli not starting jump into emergency console
#1284966540617449515 might be able to help
thx idk why this happened never had this problem before
Wild Question maybe in the wrong place, Got Aqara p2 motion sensor no aqara hub , so just connected up to my zigbee network fine, does anyone know if there is a way to set its cooldown lower ? without the hub / app ? by setting an atribute in zigbe?

stupid squirrels chewed through my abs sensor wire so had to break out the soldering iron which reminded me I need to get myself a better one.
Lmao
and later they say "nooo not encoding โ decoding!"
sooo... can you improve a decoding quality?
A better squirrel?
Haha
"a squirrel"
that cable was probably in the way for further inspection by a racoon of the safety of your car
everything alright tho besides the abs cable ๐
wow... Germany gets a new law for software manufacturers ...you can now sue them when a bug caused your business to shutdown etc. pp. (exception open source)
that'll be fun for lots of manufacturers (and one-man-devs)
maybe everyone will now say "open source or no contract" ๐
Sounds interesting to code that is partly open sourced
Say a pycharm or intellij
There are probably more examples
Docker desktop?
Homeassistant? ๐
Because who is going to prove the bug happened because the closed source part is doing something weird or is it because the open source part is doing something weird
I mean we are fully open source
As in, the dependency for cloud is open source
The cloud itself kinda is iirc
It's not that a release is shipping closed source proprietary code
thing is: it has some cascading effects in the law ... when you can't find the dev you can sue the next one in the chain
I'd not be surprised, if such a law proposal would suddenly be canned.
I just was a presentation on DEFCON24 with a guy named Petro and I thought it was @fathom sparrow but then I remembered he can't even migrate to home assistant container
Have you tried rebooting it ?
everybody has been waiting for it tho

Ya, works like a charm

You remember when Munich switched to Linux and open source software in general?
And how they switched again to Microsoft products - and suddenly the MS headquarters has not been moved away from Munich.
yes yes
Watch me
Speaking of munich, one of my favorite robot chicken shorts
brb
not support but just a quick question, does copying everything in the homeassistant docker config directory backup everything when moved to a new install
yes
thanks
That has to include all the hidden files and folders ๐
see, now you're providing support :). BTW, "question" and "support" are the same thing
even if it's a "quick question"
or a "survey"
This is a job for server rack raccoon. AKA Rackoon
The Aqara U300 is finally good now. They have more options for auto lock including disabling it altogether.
So I disabled it and all my automations run through only HA now.
Anyone here using Studio Code Server? I think the file system is glitched because I can't seem to get the proper file url when I move things or delete stuff. It still uses old url locations...
Looks like it has seen some marshmellows
Racoon graves disease.. it's a growing trend.
It would be really nice if automations could be made using Python instead of trying to "code" things in YAML. I'm fluent with Python and I hate YAML with a passion.
You can
Would require the existence of an API that automations could use to access state, entities etc as well as register triggers and actions.
I have not seen anything like that!
Look at the developer docs
I'm not looking to make full integrations, just some slightly more elaborate automations.
Head over to #1284980040940912641 and people can help if you explain more
Then write your own AppDaemon replacement
How hard can it be?
Exactly
An afternoon, tops.
Ideally I'd have a bunch of files in a dir and HA scans the files upon startup, calls an init() function if present and that function would register the automation to the proper triggers.
Well... that'll never happen as triggers are for HA's automations, not Python things
Sure. Note "ideally".
But your own external thing... that can do whatever you want (within itself anyway)
Yeah. But I think these scripts allow me to do what I want. The automation trigger has to be YAML, but it's just a motion sensor and not too many lines of arcane magic. My script can then do the fiddling with the intensity and color temp for a few lights.
Do check out Adaptive Lighting
with the exception of weather there is like no normal news anymore. it's all meltdown ridicule
and wtf am i seeing euro and au taking part in this shit? don't you foreigners have other stuff to do? lol
Shush, we watching reality tv
And it would be funny if it weren't so depressing.
Glad to know we are your reality lol
which one
Domoticz
Don't know much about that one
Well it's fine for what it is, but HA Is just a biter nicer/sleeker etc
setting up everything took some getting used to, but now its running fine
yeah i was writing my own plugins in Python lol
open source is typically severely limited in features when that's the main language cause so few people know the language anymore
yeah
for my custom entities in just use a helper and a markdown card ;P
works fine tbh
to be fair, domoticz has still got a pretty big user base
well yeah, users usually eclipse developers
oh for sure
but that UI looks old and outdated, typical of a c++ lib
looks like a early 2000's UI
Domoticz is widely used in the EU. You rarely see anyone using it in the US.
didnt know that
checked it and openhab out prior to settling on HA... f that lol
back when I played around on the forums, you'd see it pop up all the time and people wanting to get off it onto HA and I'd say most of the time it was someone in the EU (or sometimes a few other places). I don't think I've ever run into someone running it in the US at all.
People don't use c++ anymore?
Lol that's new to me, though I don't even use that, just straight c
lol not if they like themselves ๐ hahaha
it's not common
I guess it might not be common when most people just need a little Python script, but it's very common in certain industries where performance matters
was pretty ok to switch to HA for me. I had a lot setup trough MQTT so that migrates easily
I still wouldn't write a large codebase in Python though, that's just masochistic
it's pretty slow as well i'd say
heh, hearsay
lol
people always say that, however my last company wrote a full on motion controller and it was as-fast as the C++ counterpart
to prove to the higher ups in the software department that it's bullshit when people say python is slow
Not only is that motion controller still used, it pushes millions of XYZ data points through it without any loss.
And it's easier to hire developers for it
n=1, that's not proof ๐
it's enough to show that the whole trope "python is slow" is bullshit ๐
The wife's old job was working on a supercomputer, that was all c++
especially after the 3.11 and 3.12 cpython rewrites
Not going to move petabytes with python and run all the distributed memory with that
I work on embedded systems, Python would be lulz to use in that case, just wonder how badly it would work (it wouldn't get off the ground either just because of requirements for the system)
the motion controller is an embedded system ๐
the "pyhton is slow" is really overstated
maybe in 2008 that was true.
(side note I took an hpc class and one student wanted to do a project in Python, the professors response was "the p in hpc stands for performance" which was hilarious)
I still wouldn't write a large application in it, compiled strongly typed languages really do make a difference when it comes to working on large code bases
You can make python strongly typed and it will compile in a similar way
Our embedded system has a 100% code coverage, fully deterministic requirement
No dynamic memory anywhere
see last response
Wedging it into a box that it doesn't belong in
I know Dropbox did that, turned their entire codebase to strongly typed python because it became completely unmanageable
I mean, I use it for my little scripts here and there, but yeah I refuse to use it for major work
I use whatever tool gets the job done myself, they are all practically the same just different syntax. I will avoid memory management like the plague
We'll agree to disagree on it
I think the best bet for my system to avoid memory management is rust, but that's not approved for this use case
People's lives being 100% relying on it working makes for some stringent requirements
i had an internship at a place they programmed firmware for boiler and heating systems
that was all done in assembly
because it's 100% time critical
don't want it to go boom ๐
Dang, that sounds like some rough code to read, I'll stick with vxworks as my operating system even with that being pretty obscure to use
oh yeah it was some obscure dialect
i forgot
was like 20 years ago ๐
well more like 15, but still
im not running many microcontrollers at home atm
some ESPs but that's cheating
i have a AtTiny8 to control some neopixel LEDs
I wrote a custom component for esphome in c for some of my devices, one of those I converted to a multi thousand line yaml file, the other was just rewritten in the more modern custom component method for esphome, still all c
interesting. Gemini is apparently writing code for you when you search for something that could be part of the answer
I couldn't get the c methods working with esphome for the one so instead of being nice and short and compact, it's a behemoth
lmao
been looking for something to possibly test all possible ir codes that might work on a heater i have and google spit this out at me at the top lol
this was when i couldn't find my Atmel stk board
didnt know u can program them from Arduino IDE
Lol I wonder if it will work, or if it'll be more time for you to debug than to have just written it your self
no idea. wasn't planning on testing it out lol
and how would you know which ones work? ๐
good question. I thought maybe by doing it in chunks and when I came back to check if a heater setting was changed I could at least narrow it down
yea there is a display
setting up something with a camera just to detect a change would take time in itself
cheapo lcd
hmm k
sad
if it was a segment display you could probably hook into the signal to see what is going to be displayed ๐
if I went that far I would just say screw that and by pass trying to control through ir and instead use something like an esp or shelly uni
or that
an IR Led is cheaper probably ๐
or find an original remote
and copy the codes
oh i spent hours looking for that lol
Can you find the remote on ebay
bad thing about one off products bought at walmart etc
what heater is it exactly?
maybe my logitech universal remote supports it
then i can get the codes for you ๐
Comfort Zone
try Cz2011c
yea
i can't extract them from the app tho. i gotta find an IR led lel
crap
i should have a few
is what is in black the available codes? and grey no codes?
they probably copied them
i'll have a look later today.
Should be able to capture the codes
and just printt hem to console
nothing to fancy
if you happen to lift those DM me. cause I cannot find them anywhere online
will do
heater was given to me by someone and it's what I use to heat the garage up enough to tolerate being out there through winter. I have it on a smart plug but the damn thing defaults to off when powered and I have to go press the on/off button to get it to fire up
been trying to automate that forever lol
haha
These look like ir receivers to me lol
k gotta do some other stuff, i'll hook ip to an arduino later
2 parent and 1 child ir detectors, clearly
I use an rm4 pro to turn on/off all kinds of shit in my house. thing works so much better than I thought it would
clearly
sure hope the android air tags take off.. be nice to have something like that for us non ios users
As long as proper safety precautions are added
what do you mean
they were used by stalkers when it they first came out
apple put in a ton of precautions built into the iOS to let other users know that an airtag was following them
Airguard can be used on Android to search for the those trackers following you, and is released to studies around stalking from a university
I think Google has some built in functionality too at this point for the apple ones and some of the third party ones
lol no shit?
Yes, they reciprocated as part of the Android tag launch. Goes both ways now.
I will say the android versions look much bigger than the apple ones but then i only seen them in a video
Yep, this is why people can't have nice things ๐คฃ
it was like the first thing it was used for
not tracking something like your car, tracking someone else's car
well it only did any good if the person being stalked used an iphone
thats assuming that a notification popped up regardless if that person used airtags or whatever anyways
it does
yeah, it pops up an "Unknown Airtag is following you" or something similar

Nope, because every other iPhone they went by would report their location too
i beleive you can make it beep to help locate it, although if someone wants they can just desolder the buzzer and then you can essentually do nothing except look for it i guess
its funny when people think its security to help them locate a stolen thing. the thief will get the notification and then disable it. or move it to somewhere else so you go on a wild goose chase.
I think the batteries in those last for a really long time too. the android ones according to the video i saw are only like a month or something
yeah apprantly airtags last long enough that its practical to seal it up inside something to make it hard to find and disable
people could always buy trackers and put them on people/cars etc... what apple did was reduce the barrier to entry. for stalkers to use. i think its a terible product with more downsides than upsides. although i admit to disliking all apple products
I would say 6 months to a year or so
I agree, however I do like apple products for phones, less tinkering. Do that enough with HA
iI see them used to keep tabs on outdoor cats and people even hide them on thier trailers etc in the event of theft
the whole concept is really neat and much cheaper than the alternative
although not as reliable either
they have to be within bt range of an iphone to work
I had a samsung back in 2012, bought a new one in 2014ish and the fucking settings weren't transferable. Returned it and moved to iphone because my wife's upgrade was seamless and just transferred all settings in under 10 minutes.
lol samsung.. bloatware amped
yah, I was super pissed at the time that I would have to re-set everything up
cause I remember it taking 8+ hours
once I got a pixel I can't go back to those other companies.. just can't do it lol
I've heard they are good
I've also heard andriod transfers settings now, but at this point, i'm so in-bed with apple, it would be a pain in the ass to switch
But not all the settings
i remember android being pretty smooth for a long time now but maybe back then it was a little worse. i dont use my phone for much beyond basics so have had cheap ones in recent years. a moto g5 power i think it was then now i have a xiaomi.
I just activated an old iPad Air with the latest compatible iOS release (iOS 12.5) and it still populated everything from my iCloud account. The only annoyance is that some newer things aren't compatible and it popped up some "you have an old device that doesn't support some of this cool stuff" messages ๐
It's like random which ones are backed up and transfer seamlessly vs the ones that aren't
Some app configuration moves, some doesn't, some app data moves, some doesn't
get out the garden! jokes aside, if it works for you then it doesnt matter what other people think
that new senior mode for iphones looks neat.
I'm an android user but I still hate Android
Oh yeah, I know. I'm just explaining why I even got on apple in the first place
But I also don't want the walled garden of "you're holding it wrong"
I was def an anti-apple guy at the time but watching my wife spend less than 10 minutes getting a new phone... was eye opening
lol i remember that, left handed people shorted out the atennas
the same thing that you found with the iPhone applies to Macs as well
I'm sure it does, but I don't really have to configure a computer
macs are over priced for the hardware.
sigh, you guys are lost causes ๐
Today's apple worthy meme is the magic mouse charging port on the bottom
Better hope you don't need to use it when it's charging
day to day: i am a windows user but thats mostly because i play games and i dont want to duel boot. i am sure i could use any OS for the majority of stuff. servers are linux though
I tried a mac on multiple occasions, I just can't get used to it
I'm pretty open minded when it comes to tech
you seen the latest mac mini? the power button is on the bottom at the back. you litrally have to pick up your computer to switch it on
Lol
Lol I thought it was a front bottom switch, still dumb not not necessarily as dumb as the bottom on the back
I never use the power switch ๐คท
some of the complaints about Apple just seem silly and nitpicky
I use the power button when I need to turn my computer on
the excuse for the mouse is that if it could be pluggd in then people would leave it plugged in and thats not how apple want it to be used or seen. its a enforced fashion thing
Which while not often, I still power out off for vacations and hurricanes
"memeworthy" is a good term as it often goes along with "silly, but meaningless"
Sounds like people are holding it wrong again
Lolol
The apple pencil charging
That was another good laugh
almost tempted to try a switchbot just to have an excuse to buy one but don't think I have anything that can yeet a bt signal to the garage lol
Have the entire pencil sticking out of a USB port to charge
for balance, i will praise apple for 1 thing: apple tv made the "For All Mankind" tv show. they get high marks for that. eeven if it was just hiring ronald d moore
you know they don't do that anymore?
it's wirelessly charged through a magnetic mount
That's much better
But like the holding it wrong, Apple does plenty of stupid design decisions before they make something right
use a shelly device to act as a bluetooth gateway. not done it myself but apprantly it works well
I'll stop being the resident Apple apologist
oh I forgot about that. wonder if the older shelly 1's can do that
Didn't their new laptop keyboard also suck, not sure if the newest generations fixed it
But for a while they were pretty well hated
I have an holder shelly controlling my garage door lol
no idea, but worth having a bash if you have one laying around
Yes, "fixed" since like 2018
or 2020
I apparently don't follow Apple very much
I'm just a few years behind
Now when can I side load apps on their phones
That's what's keeping me from leaving the dumpster fire of Google Android
then they put the cpu 1v line next to a high voltage backlight line on a ribbon cable. so if it gets knocked on the wrong way it fried the cpu
its the least worst option ๐
If I could sideload on Apple, then a good third party foss app store would win me over
That way I get away from googles squirrel chasing and incessant product killing
I still don't know why they prevent me from uninstalling the pixel buds app, and pixel stand, despite having/using neither of those products
They're as bad as Samsung for bloatware now (or at least as bad as the last Samsung phone I had, the S2, which was pretty dang awful on bloatware)
i have been using linageos for years now. which takes alot of pain out of android bloat
if i have to buy a new phone then linageOS compatability list is where i start
supposedly the shelly 1pm can do it but I think it's refering to the newer models. would the setting be under internet and security or settings? do you remember?
Yeah that's the problem I have, if I have to install a different OS on my phone to make it useful, I might as well buy a different phone
I just refuse to deal with that mess of a process (which may be better now, but was a massive pita last time I tinkered with one on a pixel 5)
I thought Android would be freeing and cool because you can root/customize it so much, but I found that the Samsung GS3 I had way back when was a minefield of bugs and crapware
When I actually tried to use all that awesome customizability, I found that it crashed all the time in random ways and you essentially break whatever coherent ecosystem the phonemaker tried to build
depends on the device. but if you look in advance then you get look into it.
as a device to hack on, I'm sure it's fine
to store my life on it, I need something reliable
i try and use the mantra of "use but dont depend on" gotta ask yourself what would happen if xyz account was suddenly switched off
Until phones are as easy to install an OS on as a PC, I'll use it 100% as an appliance, if the features aren't there, then I should've picked a different appliance
I've yet to run into a BSOD on an iphone. I've helped my family (all of them) with various renditions of andriod and gotten it MANY times.
thats a fair enough position to take
FFS, my sister had it the worse, whenever she removed her phone case, the fucking phone would sense buttons being pressed and move it into a boot menu. One of the options is wipe phone!
WHYYYY would that be so easy to get into
i cant say i have ever had the issue but as mentioned i would say i am a lighter user of a phone compared to alot of people
I do hope they get to that point at some time, a bios like system to have one build work on all phones
Rather than every individual device needing a special build
its not usually that easy. you gotta hold specific buttons for many seconds
whilst i in theory agress its not practical because then either the image would be huge or you would have to install drivers
Yeah, and arm cpus are basically all unique to themselves, no two being similar enough to share a build
I have problems with arm in general due to that
But a guy can dream
arm serves a purpose and it does it pretty well.
Makes a decent appliance
Take a phone case off your phone
it's like 3 seconds, if you have those hugging phone cases, it's pressed every time
even iOS has a slider that says "ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DO THIS" with the multiple press buttons
instead of just doing it and going into a boot menu
yeah i can see it happening, its just I dont every really take my phone out the case much specially when its off
I can't remember why my sister was doing it so much
it does seem odd but everyone has specific use cases
has anyone called a script with fields from javascript before? it seems to not accept anything i pass it besides entity_id and the documentation on the wiki is poor
U mean trough the rest API?
That sounds like a question for #1284965988642590891
I learning HA, not sure where to ask this question, its about how to setup automation/notification of OpenEVSE, first i need to figure out how to setup ID or configure it in YAML to add to intergration. this document but I don't understand it https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/openevse
#1284966582375813201 might be able to help
i got it to display and says charging.. but I can't figure out how to do an ID
ok, Thanks
Are you using call service under the hood? Are you calling it via the script as a service or script.turn_on?
is there a way to disable ipv6 fully in HAOS? i'm having some repeated connectivity issues popping up and i want to rule out any ipv6 routing weirdness happening
#1284966540617449515 can help
Got it working thank you had to use a different callService method, found it using the source code, another reason HA is awesome, open source
Anyone get this to work? I can load the page but it keeps telling me my login failed. Changed password, not using a Social SSO, still not working. @chrome steppe
That's something for #1284966582375813201
@iron granite Well, it's not connected to the integration at all. This is still at the step of trying to make a PAT. When I try to log in to the connect-pat site, it tells me my login fails. Seeing if anyone else has had luck, or if they are stuck like they were when you responded in the message I replied to.
I had the WORST time creating a PAT. Took me like 5 or 6 (thousand) tries to get it working.
I just watched the first episode of the second season.
yea same. glad it appears to be as good as the first season so far
although some of the music choice are a bit off
MINISFORUM any good?
I like my MS-01, can't really speak to any of their other products
The only real downside I've hit so far is it doesn't support UEFI capsule updates, so if you need to do BIOS updates they're a frustrating manual process.
Did you mean this one: https://github.com/basnijholt/adaptive-lighting

using HA on docker, so i don't have addons, because using truenas as as my OS (for a NAS) so didn't go for HA as OS. was wondering if there's a website with all the addons to browse? and see if it's worth me trying to figure out some way to get

The page loads for me. Sorry Iโm not allowed to you that here. Iโll make a post in the forums
A huge loss to the community. I doubt I would have gotten HAOS running on PVE the first time without his scripts.

Hello Community! I am working at the university and wandering is Home Assistant good for automating a group of objects like makerpsace and 2-3 auditoriums, for example. Thoughts?
I mean, it's good at automating
So, probably yes, depends on the constraints and expectations
in luck i kept the original that has the static ones as well
awesome thank you
actually what I uploaded might not be the same as what is on the post. these were used for dark sky tho way back when
what jparthum posted looks a little different. what DavidFW1960 posted a little further down is what I just uploaded
heh been awhile since I looked up weather icons. many of them were paid but I see that sparked some people to release a bunch of free ones now lol
i need help understanding docker volumes and storage in WSL and Docker Desktop. please do not flame for using WSL lol. for context, i spun up an ollama container with -v ollama:/root/.ollama . when i run docker volume inspect ollama i see /var/lib/docker/volumes/ollama/_data is the mount point.
i intentionally moved my docker desktop 'Disk Image Location' to S:/WSL/ (a larger drive) I intended for these ollama models (and other container volumes) to be stored. and, indeed, this drive has a ~200GB .vhdx drive in the desired location - so this is what i intended, but not what i expected based on my current (mis)understanding.
i thought the disk image location would store the container data and images in S:/WSL but not necessarily the volumes.
can somebody tell me what's going on here?
#1284966915055288530 with the "Ollama" tag might be able to help
Not here
thanks, this question isn't ollama specific it's more about docker. which channel might you recommend?
In that case #the-workshop
had to post in there to keep it on my side bar
too much work
Reading all those GIF's here is a lot of work too
heh waiting for someone to post the myq bf deals in there

Is it just me or is spotcast pretty slow :p
I created some custom sentences. It works fine. It just takes like 8 seconds total
Or just click on follow post...
Just tryn to annoy you..
I went to the thread and saw the ".", was annoyed, so repaying the favor.
amazon is doing a good enough job at that already.. 10 stops away, 8 stops away, 12 stops away, arriving tomorrow by 9pm, arriving today by 10pm
anyone know how to output home assistant docker logs to a file on HAOS? docker logs homeassistant > error.log produces an empty file even though tons of logs show on screen when i type the command
docker logs might be printing to stderr, in which case you'd need to use 2>
If that doesn't do the trick: #1284966540617449515
thank you! that helped
i already have an open thread there, its not getting any responses
If you have an open thread, please do not crosspost it here
The docker logs are the same as the home-assistant.log file. I'm not understanding why you need to docker logs out when you have the same file already in your mount point.
the thread topic is not about error logs. i'm simply trying to get error logs to help diagnose my original issue
And this is not a support channel
ok i guess better for me to wait a few more days for my support thread to continue to be ignored rather than ask a simple usability question on how to get logs so i can try to figure out whats going on myself?
How about using #the-workshop and not a channel where the first words of the topic are "There's no support here"?
the docker logs being output using the log command are not the same as what's located in home-assistant.log. i have no idea why. i'm getting like almost 5000 lines from docker logs homeassistant and only a few hundred looking at home-assistant.log
fine, makes sense, i didnt realise that channel would be more appropriate
i'll see myself out
you have to get to the second sentence of the topic of #the-workshop to get to "without things being support focused" :/
so yeah, not the first words.
well, jorg's right actually. i totally missed this lol
noone ever reads those
that is why they put the "There's no support here" first - in some discord uis, that shows up in the top bar without expanding the topic.
That means, quick questions (like "how can I get output in a file") are fine. If it is a more complex problem (especially HA ones), the forums in the support section are the place to go.
the whole focus when entering a channel is the very bottom.. not the top so that one liner that starts the discription is overlooked so eaily
not sure about mobile but on desktop
is too easy to miss lol
no support her? who?
Closed as B Y D E S I G N.
anyways, i was explicitly ignoring your support forum thread since from the topic it wasn't really something i felt like i'd be able to help with, despite the fact that i was immediately able to answer the most recent question you had in it :/
Meaningful topics are important
the topic was meaningful for the overall question, and still is - their home assistant docker container is crashing and they're trying to figure out why. I still can't help with that.
I just happen to know some bash syntax as to why their command wasn't doing what they expected
lol well, i'll take any and all help i can get, thanks for chiming in as you did. got my logs sorted anyway.
this is the sort of thing for why i'm not really a fan of separating out individual support requests to threads in a chat environment; in a chat, people can step in and help when they see something they know as it comes up without having to monitor every single thread individually.
the threads do have an advantage for questions that take longer to answer, or require back and forth with an expert in a particular area, tho.
The advantage to the forums is then people that want to snipe, toss in insulting gifs, and want to be disruptive aren't going to look to help others. Mostly the people that want to help do.
If you want to be insulted there's always /r
looks through post history in water cooler... pages and pages about threads dating all the way back to 9/16/24
give it a rest dude
what happend to 9/23? lol
I went back further in the post history
I was lazy the first time only went to page 3 of 5
but it's 5 full pages of complaining about the new forums, with 1 or 2 messages about FFMPEG
we get it, you don't like it. move on
prior to the forum switchover, i was active almost exclusively in other channels, like zigbee, matter, thread.
just saying that my chat history in this channel isn't a good representation of what i do on this server, where i do help people out in support topics i'm familiar with, and used to chat on other topics when there were spaces suitable for those.
now you gotta bounce between #1284966353798697001 and #the-workshop lol
or i guess #1284966617670881350 too
it's not representative, however this is not bitch-about-forums, this is the-water-cooler. The first line even mentions only chill, so.. chill
oh where is the #bitch-about-forums channel.. i wanna go troll there
#botspam
I even got it started for ya
that's not right it looks just like this channel...
now that the yellows have fallen for thier own trick...
You should not expect to get support when crying in that channel.
watching the amazon driver drive around my neighborhood and not in my neighborhood in real time via the tracker is annoying

no it's garabage but i got other crap to do so figured i'd wait just to bring it off the porch

Is there a way to setup an automation for a temperature sensor to fire the automation with any temperature change (either up or down) and even better, either up or down to the nearest degree? All I see are thresholds but I want to manage the threshold in a more complex fashion using conditionals in the automation...
#1284980040940912641 can help with that
Thanks Jorg - is there no chat forum anymore for issues or conversation anymore? Not asking to cause issues or be disrespectful...other Discord's like ESPHome have a chat channel to post into to see if you can get a more immediate response. I would typically post on the HA Forum if I wanted a forum-type conversation.
Thereโs no support here - only chill.
Interrupted by traces of drama and/or raccoons
The support channels have been moved to forum style
Maybe I'm not understanding DIscord as well though
check out #find-support
Hey, whats the best way to hear about upcoming launch parties videos? I keep watching them after, but its one of the few things I'd like to see live? Im just that geeky
ping @lone dagger and ask her if there is a launch party
-# jk don't do that
Got it - appreciated...I don't use DIscord for forum interaction - I use it typically to connect to dev's and tackle more complex scenarios via chat. Either way, I'll post or figure it out.
that's literally what the forums are
real time chat
with devs and other experts
but organized
Here on Discord they are usually announced in the events section.
The streams are (usually) on release day at 8 pm UTC.
The #announcements channel has upcoming live streams.
Not the release streams, just the release notes
The developer website has a calendar for releases so you can know what day it is. But if you subscribe on YouTube (and click the bell) it will notify you.
I am gonna do the subscribe, thanks all!
Ohhhh... I thought it also handled the live stream announcements too. My bad.
Rosemary got you sorted - best way is notifications on YouTube. But we also post them in Events here in Discord.
Socials tend to get content pushed when itโs set up, too.
We are tinkering with the idea of doing those inside our company on software releases. but we don't have the charisma
Well that was embarrassingly easy - ty again Jorg and Ender for the guidance (and RobC for the resolution)
lol as long as you got people presenting stuff they are excited about, things go well.
-# English is hard.
We're deeply saddened to hear that @tteckster, a prominent script developer who made running Home Assistant on Proxmox much easier, had passed away earlier this week. We wish his family all the strength as they process this loss. โค๏ธ
should HA survive an IP range change? (in my case from 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 to 192.168.178.0/255.255.255.0 because I got a new router from my internet provider, and forgot to check that)
I've some integrations that reconnected automatically (like Hue), and some that didn't (Denon and Shelly).
wanted a way to detect co2, and now i fell down a rabbit hole of looking at sensors that can do so much more but are priced so differently for features, that i have analysis paralysis and wont choose anything
It seems like one of the more reasonably priced
One of my philipps hue bulbs started shimmering when turned off last night. It's a very dim yellowish shimmer that flickers from time to time. It only turns off when I cut the power to the lamp. Is that just a sign that the bulb should be replaced? It's like 5 years old now. It's just one spot out of 3 in that lamp.
grumble my virtual machine isn't accessable, can't tell why, been thinking about going docker instead of HAOS guess this will push me toward that
to be fair, I'm not trying that hard to figure it out
What's you definition of "useless"?
that's something that might be fixable if your vm host can give you a console on the machine, but the way the distro is set up is kinda unusual so you might need some help from folks in #1284966540617449515 to figure out what went wrong :/
Yup. It's dying.
Alright, I guess ~5 years is a fair life span of a smart bulb that was constantly on power. Getting a new one then
my VM host is stopping at the UEFI shell, not sure its even home assistant, I'm perfectly ok going to docker though, its been on my mind for a while
Its the only VM I run
aw. dang, some sort of boot variable breakage or maybe hard drive corruption in the vm then, that's unfortunate :( if you get a uefi shell it might be possible to manually boot it.
I like tinkering and thsi is my first ever setup, so there's a lot of not so ideal setup that I don't mind wiping out and starting over
shit you don't look at or need?
Right... get that. Just wondering which ones they think is useless.
I dunno but I got to scroll down 3 full rotations for my apollo just to reach the bottom of the list
what am i? a tire?
psi is the standard measurement that ESPHome uses (for some reason). Just edit it to be what you want. Disable the entities that you don't need.
that's an unusual unit, imo, but atmospheric air pressure is a pretty standard climate monitoring measurement.
not sure how useful it is indoors
so you get a heads up before your head implodes
it always amuses me that the air pressure sensor in phones is often sensitive enough to be able to tell when you go up or down a floor in a building by the air pressure change.
The only reason it's exposed is because the chip exposes it.
back to the useless comment..
So, disable it. I don't see what the problem is?
i'm just defending the comment lol
lol sure... but... here's the funny thing... initially, a LOT of the entities were disabled by default and some of the "louder" people didn't like that. So, now they are all pretty much enabled.
So, bitch and moan, but bitching and moaning got it to the point it is now.
I don't care either way but you asked what the definition was and i attempted to answer it lol
Gotcha... yeah... this is in the same vein of "Why aren't all the entities excluded from recorder by default?". Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
they could have made that a ui switch tho imo
They still might, but yeah, I get it.
they state it was calibrated but you should calibrate that yourself using your normal outside air
and yea, mine has two temp sensors on it and one is wild apparently from heat off the chip itself
are they exposing the internal temperature sensor of the soc? that would be kinda silly.
Yup, but that's a known issue with ESP attached temp chips in general.
the one thing I use on this thing the most is the buzzer lol
I would like to use the led but it sits behind me so that's out lol
attach it to an air vent lol
that's pretty annoying. i guess that would be down to bad physical case/hardware design which isn't isolating the temp sensor and exposing it to outside air :(
It's almost impossible to isolate the temp sensor in the AIR-1. It's already bulky as it is.
SEN55 - that's the temp sensor built into the sensiron SEN55? documented as typical accuracy 0.45ยฐC on the temperature :/ but it is kind of a weird bulky multi-sensor unit.
unless you live in LA it should be pretty close
My VOC has been very accurate.
use it to tell you that you are 3d printing?
just how close are the house cleaning supplies is to you?
voc should not be a concern imo
unless you are doing something that produces it lol
thats why i said what i said above
I don't understand where the "yesterday" is coming into play?
looks like the sen55's temp/humidity sensors are in the airflow path (intake side) from the fan used for the particulate monitoring, so it should be getting a good temp reading as long as the intake is clear and open to the environment.
But that's all that VOC is? the CO2 and CO is what you should be measuring.
Or the PM sensors.
unless you drive a mini, then co2 is something to carefully watch
Yeah, but VOC is a calculated reference.
The PM sensors along with the CO sensors are what you should be monitoring.
Move the sensor then.
I think the co2 thing is a bit overrated too
my room door is closed, no open windows and the sensor is right behind me. only time it goes over 2k is if I simulate being in labor
ugh another day of waiting for the amazon delivery person
fwiw, they have an explainer sheet on their "VOC index" here: https://sensirion.com/media/documents/02232963/6294E043/Info_Note_VOC_Index.pdf and yeah, it's not an absolute number, but is a weird rolling average thing designed to estimate "would a person be able to smell something"
Seems kinda fake to me.
there are some tuning options available for the sen55 - adjusting the integration time to a longer period (default is 12h, but they recommend 72h for indoor air quality monitoring), increasing the "gate" period on high voc detection (default is 180 minutes - after 3 hours of high voc, defined as index >=230, it decides this is the new normal and starts adjusting the relative scale). tweaking those settings could probably make it a fair bit more useful for monitoring 3d printing.
they need to make a zigbee sensor that replaces the standard door magnetic catch
Customers can get some orders within an hour with the new service.
is aliexpress real with aqara stuff?
Probably
but actually, is it at least 90% secure?

i dont want to wait weeks to only get scammed ahahha
A lot of people buy off that site knowing they could get scammed.
That is indeed a risk.
But you can say the same about Amazon and Etsy now.
sometimes it's like older models of the same product
6 weeks?! It's here in 10 days for me usually
I haven't ordered too much from aliexpress yet but not been burned yet
damnnn
i never used aliexpress...
my friend told me he waited usually weeks for stuff
It'll tell you the estimated delivery window when you look at products
are you in the US?
yes NJ
and other times it's knockoffs.
I found a site with really REALLY good prices on Lego sets, and it turns out, while they all look and mostly work like lego, they are knockoffs.
Thatโs why it takes forever.
well coastal might not be too bad. i'm midwest and yes I have to wait weeks
Rosemary is in the UK.
even had one thing take over a month lol
Just make sure it's not "Aqara Tuya" or anything with "Tuya" in the name, I've noticed an increased number of listings with both in the title and they're always Tuya products trying to get a wider market.
the link i sent above its like the "official" aqara store so dunno
oddly enough aliexpress has some warehouses in the US so some things could actually be pretty quick
It's the "Aqara Global Store", not necessarily official ๐
I've bought from alliexpress before and had luck. it's just difficult at times to tell which specific hardware version you're getting
exactly, but still i dont think its tuya no?
I've never bothered limiting myself to one store, it all tends to get collected at one or two local warehouses and then shipped together.
ok lets take an example, what would you guys say about this one, cop or not cop? https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804539313369.html?
It would be nice if you could strip all the tracking stuff off the URLs before posting them. Everything from the ? onwards is unnecessary
oh didnt know ok
Different topic question: Anybody in here know of a "simple" way to export all entities in my homeassistant instance? I'm hoping it's possible to export to a CVS or Excel spreadsheet... something like:
entity name, friendly name, alias, area, integration
that might be an older model. dosen't look like mine lol
But I have about 20 of those sensors around and they work great for me.
same ^^
when in doubt compare the images.. usually people at the bottom show what they got in the reviews
the one i sent?
Yeah, it's the same one
so you think that link of aliexpress is valid?
like i could actually just buy like 5 times for 1$ each one?
why is it so big? is that an older model?
They show up as ยฃ6.38 each for me
yeah, the new one is like rounded right?
smaller
They failed to realise that the phone would imply scale, it's not supposed to
My prices include the import taxes
so should i go for it?
yea maybe. swear the magnet on mine is skinnier
honestly looks the same as the pictures on https://www.aqara.com/en/product/door-and-window-sensor/ to me
i mean yes, it can look as the same as much as you want, but how do you know the actual product will be sent hahaha
especially if its just for 1$ ahha
You can complain to AliExpress if you get the wrong thing
it will be like a 10 buck shipping fee
But at $10 for 10 I'd take a chance
what does that mean?
you're almost certainly going to get packaging and documentation inserts in chinese, but that doesn't mean it's the wrong device.
It would be a good deal, and if it doesn't work out you get a refund so it's not going to cost you anything
meaning it's 10 bucks for 10 sensors.. it's worth the risk lol
oh really? aliexpress does it? oh ok
wait where 10$ for 10 sensors ahhaha
You can complain to them, and they should handle it. And if not then you do a credit card chargeback
you said it was a buck a piece
oh yes but they are not in the same order, i would need to do seperates orders you know?
cuz 10 pieces bundle would be 78$ instead
check shipping.. may wanna do 1 order lol
Add 10 of the 1 piece ones to your cart?
yes like 10 orders of one product

No, that's not 10 orders
Just going to ask this before I pull the trigger , cc2652p or cc2674 for zigbee2mqtt, if I get no answer I'm fine but there's active folks there lol
i mean one order with 10 quantity
It's buying 10 lots of 1 product vs 1 lot of 10 products vs 10 orders of 1 lot of 1 product...
wait it doesnt allow me to add multiple ones in the cart
actually I wonder if it would charge a seperate shipping fee for each item
its grayed out, cant add more ahah
they just want you to sign up and order something so they can flood your email with "pair with what you purchased" emails
it's no joke
I get them all the time
its fine i will block them or smth
the welcome deal applies to one item only and only once per customer
oh cuz its the welcome deal i see
if you don't checkout with the welcome deal at least once then they make you play a fun game of guess the actual price
cause even if you already have something in your cart with the welcome deal
they show the welcome deal price on everythinbg
yeah
ahahaha

https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806607750000.html?
ok getting this then
@keen bridgedoes aliexpress do black friday stuff? I never looked before
they should yes
Most places on the planet have hopped on that marketing scheme
It's not necessarily going to be cheaper than their other sales
does it make you feel like it's more legit now?
yes

No, but thatโs because a lot of that currently lives on the forums.

No, Discourse forums.

Learn YAML ๐คฃ (kidding, but also, learn YAML)
Seriously thoughโฆ ask LOTS of questions (even if you think theyโre stupid) and do lots of searching here and on the forums. Theres lots of help here and on the forums.
really only 1 company that makes a smart (open and close) vent for hvac
how is that possible
I thought the same thing when I looking for some and finally gave up.
For real, ask questions. But when you do, focus on your goal first - not the outcome. Follow up with details on what youโve tried.
Supposedly someone sells some on tindie.
gross.. two things pop into my mind.. it will either need to be plugged in constantly or the battery life will be short as hell lol
oh sweet found a second company
and it's zigbee
Youโre not wrong. I really wanted to do the whole open/close vent thing and finally just threw in the towel.
yay
Who is it? Keen?
yes
Trash
flair was the other
I donโt think flair had an integration, but I did try 1 keen a few years back and it was BAD
That sounds like tinder for indie things
Hmmmm maybe Iโm thinking about some other company then. These were WiFi I think. Canโt remember the name of them now.
