So all my blinds were closing when I reloaded my template entities. I deleted the cover group that referenced them all and re-created it with the same name, and now it's stopped doing it. Very strange.

Is this a template cover that you use? It could be something in that. If reloading templates causes the issue then I would think that the problem is in the template cover itself, perhaps it's looking for a value that is unknown/unavailable/etc because templates are still being reloaded.

I use template entities a LOT (and quite a few covers) and have run into just these kinds of issues until I rolled up my sleeves and made sure I'm trapping potential issues in the code.

so just an update - it seems when i trigger the scene it only changes the toggle helper to "on" for a fraction of a second before it goes back to "off". I'm not sure if it's because of there being a transition period as it changes to the scene?

I'm using a goodnight scene as a test where the lights are all turning off. I think the fading off of the lights means it changes the state to on but then because the lights are still a value above 0% as they fade away it goes back to "off" again

I'll open a thread if it becomes a bigger discussion

Now this is just an observation not a request for help: Something has changed in the dashboard editing. With the Custom:Auto Entities card used to only display when an entity is "on" state. It used to be visible (but shown empty) in Edit mode all the time. Now it's only visible if it would be visible when normally displayed - ie when something is on.

It's fine but you have to go into the full yaml to edit it, not just the button as it's not clickable for editing

Well the trick is to turn something on before going into edit so like I say no problem

Yeah, avoid SanDisk - that has been the advice I have seen. They tend to fail easily and you risk losing your set up if you don't do back ups often.

I like living on the edge though and am absolutely using a SanDisk microSD card.

Just get a high endurance card, whatever you get. I would say 32gb is about right for a small system - you will likely outgrow the processor before you outgrow the space, but YMMV. I've used Sandisk HE cards and never had an issue when I ran rPi's

I've had to take the Reolink Home Hub offline altogether, I'm gonna have to get rid. It won't keep its wifi off. So now I have to reset all the cameras and get them back onto the app as individuals. And those blighters are a pain to connect to the app!

Indeed it was nice to see, less nice to see that it's impossible to add the U300 to HA. I have followed the steps in their video over and over again and it just will not add as a matter device. Every other aqara device that I have connected to the M3 hub just shows up instantly in HA but this one you need to add manually, and it fails every time. Kind of annoying tbh.

A forums channel is simply a text channel in which only threads can be created.

SO the bot saying I can only move them to another text channel makes sense when you know that info.

Got locked out of my house due to a schlage connect keypad not working and didnt have my keys or phone on me.
After I got inside (minus 1 storm door glass on the front door that has another keypad) I was able to unlock the garage door lock via HA so it was the keypad that froze.

The lights are bright in Europe right now with this latest flare. Add the integration so you know when to watch. Supposed to be one heck of a show!!

I don't think Mrono's stance is unreasonable. The default upgrade path shouldn't be to remove information and then have to opt back in to see it. If people want to hide it, the new tools should allow them to do that. Principle of least astonishment, and all that jazz.

I have different auto sleep modes depending on what the house detects we are doing at about the time we generally go to bed. For instance, if we are watching TV (TV = On) and we start something that will end within our normal bedtime (calculating the time remaining and comparing to see if it falls between time X and Y - which changes on weekends vs weekdays) then it will start shutting down the house about 2 minutes before the show ends.

I've been doing home automation for so long I've gone through several philosophies. First was just normal stuff, then it became smart dashboards on walls, then voice command and now its "I've got all this processor power, let the house be an actual smart house rather than a mostly dumb one that I tell what to do". So I try to make the house anticipate our needs and do them. I have this throughout most day to day things, we rarely ask the house to do anything, touch a dash or press a button of any kind.

I've really wanted to do ble tracking of my watch to do room presence, but my watch doesn't beacon

I have pets so I can't do motion sensors without using the more expensive and not battery powered ultrasonic ones (or whatever tech it is)

No pets, I've been through a lot with presense and am waiting for Inovelli to finish their mmWave stuff to really dial it in but I currently have Fibaro motion sensors on each side of every door, it counts how many enter and how many leave by knowing which triggered first, then our normal detection (IP, phones, watches, etc) tell the house how many people are home and if there's general room motion elsewhere then it mostly knows that to do, which is what I want mmWave for - change mostly to almost always or even always

Is it typical you have to try 4-5 times to update a third reality zigbee leak sensor? I know zigbee is slow, but it got like 40%, then said it failed, try again it gets further, and each time it seems like it is further along, and eventually finishes after 4-5 attempts

Yes, I just updated some, the battery devices often needs to be given a chance to wake up to know you asked it to update

No, it just needs to bridge between a side contact and front contact screw

Not if you got the ones with the metal sensors on the screws. If you didn't, it detects water from the screws being in water, so about 1/8"

With so much crap and complexity I don't need useless toys in the pie 🙂

That being said, don't buy the cheap stuff for any reason unless you have read great things here or on the HA forums about it. Most of the time cheap = garbage. A few exceptions bubble up from time to time, like Third Reality, but you are generally better off waiting and saving for a Zooz or Inovelli or Fibaro (etc) than hurrying up and getting that obscure Chinese junk. I don't buy something and find a need, I have a need and find a device.
