Once Amazon admitted to listening in for far longer than they said they were and that they did collect information from Alexa, they all went into the trash. Just like everything else, there are golden rules: there's no such thing as free (ask Google, Amazon, etc), there's no such thing as cutting edge tech that's cheap and all of it comes at the cost of your privacy and data. If you don't care about privacy then go all in on new cheap and free tech.

There's some issue that both me and Sonoma had that the keyboard would randomly just skip keypresses when writing. For me that problem went away when I closed their shit software but that also stopped my mouse sensitivity button from working. Their software is a piece of junk

Not sure if you know this, but if your naming convention is the same as the room, it drops the room name from the device IE if all your devices were named Front Room Left Light, the only thing that would show is Left Light(not sure if you care about this)

I repurposed a bunch of old USB computer speakers by putting in esp32 and a MAX95357a audio amp and they worked fine on the bench as one-shot things.. but when they are around the house they are not at ALL in sync and some wont make any noise.. sometimes.. 😛

My $0.02 is that the threaded version is MUCH easier to answer and make sense of while the free-form style was very "Discord-esque" and it's what we all grew up with on Discord. Fortunately @lone dagger (and presumably others) have give you both to satisfy all different types of folks. Don't like threads? #the-workshop or the other various old style chat channels. There should be no reason for discourse (pun intended HA folks) over this, everyone gets their thing.

I used to spend a lot of time on here both helping people and (mostly) getting help. Now I don't anymore and I wanted to voice why. I realize it's just one voice of many. But it's not for me anymore, partly because of the new style, and honestly because of the ridicule and questioning tone when trying to raise some feedback that's at least intended to be respectful. It's just not as fun and worth it, to me.

I have been highly active on the Discourse forums for years and avoided this Discord server because it was so chaotic, precisely the opposite of your position. Once they changed it to threaded it was easier to not only answer others but to get answers as well. Yet, here I am in the general old school chat channel just typing away, I embrace the old and the new. As for community being lost, there are a lot of fun chat channels here to participate in, nothing is truly lost.

This is an interesting point. Because I would say that I'm significantly more likely to reply to an older conversation now.
Where something someone asked would have scrolled into oblivion in a mixed chat channel (basically I treat those conversations as ephemeral; if I wasn't there and actively participating they might as well have not happened), when it's only the 3rd or 5th thread down (and still quite visible in the list) it's quite a different story.
It feels like the person is much more likely to see your reply too (especially if we are fighting against timezones and I'm replying to an older thread, and they won't see it for an equivalent number of hours), I know I have extreme trouble finding @'s/replies directed at me if they're even a few hours old, because discord is just shitty like that.

basically, HA creates entities through various means like SSDP or something similar. That protocol provides information to HA to identify the device. If that data from the device changes, HA thinks it's a new device and will generate new entities for it.

Does HA have any way to dynamically cache / host files? I have an automation that generates an image using AI based on the weather / location for some of my dashboards. The output from the OpenAI action is a URL. The URL expires.

So I'm looking to cache the image,

Right now I'm sending an event that a template trigger updates an image entity, but it sets the url which doesn't cause the image to get locally cached in any way. And once the URL expires, it no longer works.

IIRC we were able to widdle it down to a single automation. I added it to my system at one point but I found that each image cost $0.12 and immediately turned it off (even though it was cool as fuck).

You would have loved to see then our collective team's feedback we were asked to provide (to our head of department) around company direction.
Most people took at as an opportunity to unload on other departments (primarily finance/procurement and non-IT software development departments, but also some intra-IT issues) for their terrible processes and interactions.
"bullshit" would have been one of the kindest things that was said.

Hi, I could use a little guidance to get me started on node red configuration, I am probably making it more difficult than it needs to be but this is where i am at. installed node red directly to proxmox node that is different than my home assistant. I can log in and all seems well. I then proceeded to install node red companion in home assistant as i understood i needed that. I have created a api key but not sure how to put that in node-red and i don't get a node red tab in home assistant. can these be connected this way or should i just install node-red directly in home assistant?

All I can find under notifications is a separate action for each mobile device or a couple of options for sending a notification where you can't choose the phones as targets

The notify group only offers file as an entity, so I guess I'll need to look for an integration, though at this point it looks like it will be quicker to simply use two actions. Sometimes trying to save time just takes more of it 😄

The notify group is set up via YAML and provides a new notify action, which forwards that to all group members.
