Mine is wired to the output
So it's literally just power cycling it
I was gonna use a cloud integration to check if the button was pressed
But that method of yours sounds more stable
The zbmini just rectifies the power to DC and steps it down to like 3V to run it, I found the units themselves work fine off of 12V DC if you want 12V on the output line. I have mine on a 12v power supply and when load out turns on from the doorbell being pressed it flips a contactor that rings my doorbell chime.
Smart
It also gives me an HA notification I can automate off of
Mine is powered via a transformer pushing 24v AC
My doorbell is 24V AC but when the solenoid fires it shorts it and drops voltage down to near 0v which was causing the zbmini's to hang, hence the 12v power supply and contactor
Usually smart doorbells need a bypass so the chime can still ring
Or have it built in
I'm just using the regular chime that wyze provides
I have a stupid doorbell just wired to S1/S2 on a zbmini
Ah
I have a camera out there that does two way audio too so I don't need a doorbell camera
I ended up branching my transformer and firing it with an esp8266 when I get doorbell events
I basically just use a zbmini instead of an esp to fire mine.
I feel like there's a way to implement that for me but
I programmed in multiple chime patterns into mine with esphome so I could have a virtual front and back door ring
Could just go get that community made integration 🤭
I would call the cops if someone started knocking on my back door
And wonder how they got over a 15' fence
My house is on a hill and right behind my backyard fence is basically a 10 ft vertical drop, lol.
My wife runs a salon with an entrance on the side of the house from the front door
I had to put a doorbell out there for her lol
At least HA/smart homes make adding doorbells really easy
Ish
Talking 2 way is a special kind of hell
The number of people that go down that whole road and then get mad they need working ssl lol
Just stick a polycom intercom on your door and make the doorbell call it and your cell phone
One of these things
Somewhere there is a mountain of those in a landfill
I had an elaborate plan to do something like that when I moved in then I realized nobody ever comes to my door except to deliver things
I had everything set up except buying the actual polycom too
I still maintain an asterisk server to call out if an alarm gets triggered
The first thing that comes to mind is if you reuse a neutral wire as a high voltage traveler you need to tape the ends of it red to reidentify it as a hot wire.
I thought it was gonna be a passive traveler?
This was with the switches
Couldn't I take the one neutral and move it to the switch upstairs, and then to the switch downstairs to complete the circuit
Since atm there's only one travel wire
I don't have a clear enough idea of your wiring to offer anything helpful.
You might have better luck asking in #hardware-archived or #zigbee-archived
Not a lot of people check #the-water-cooler a lot, compared to other channels
Raccoon support is terrible
Why go out when you can bring the club home instead :)
I do lighting for a living and my toddler loves dancing so...
@tidal bronze this your place?
Lol no. Didn't turn on a single light this time.
Installation complete. Test drove over the last couple of days and 👍
I wish it was less giant and plasticky, and I may stop at the master bath for that reason
Hidden feature of American dryers: Pop the exhaust vent out of the wall and run it empty for an hour, easy 5kw space heater.
i still cant wrap my mind around this
hm yes, this produces an enormous amount of heat... lets... vent it to the outside
I don't even own a dryer
ikr
also americans: lets cool this air from the outside down so we can heat it up with a dryer
also heat this tank of water
I've been trying to come up with a cheap solution to capture the heat from my dryer while still venting the moisture
by buying a more efficient dryer
A DIY condensor or something
Heat pump dryer?
cheap
My dryer is in my garage so it's not like capturing the heat off of it is going to do me a ton of good
Not worth buying a new appliance for
with the magic of heat pumps
Didn't we go over how heat pump dryers don't work in cold rooms yesterday?
i mean, how cold is cold
Or was that someone else I was talking to
probably not me
I keep my garage set to 7C
thats one way of not having to iron cloths ;D
that could get more difficult
the measurements above are ~21c
From what I was reading they just don't get hot enough to be effective at low temperatures
7+c might work just fine for larger ones, but no idea about how those small ones would handle
id guess it still would work, in the end the dryers are rated for 1.2ish kw
Mine's rated for 5.6kw, lol.
which should be enough heat for what volume they have
the non heatpump one we had before did around 2kw
They make smaller ones I could have got. Mine is 7.4ft^3/ .2m^3
6 is just madness. probably this is a special setting after "extra dry" "desert dry" and "surface of the sun"
I can get mine to do lower power too, it's got a few different eco modes and load sensors
I could just adjust the temperature of it too, I do for some blankets I have that high heat would destroy.
If your garage is usually this cold, why not vent it directly into it
I was thinking I may be able to do something like get 20m of exhaust hose and coil it up and blow a fan over it to condense it in one spot and keep it from going everywhere
But then I have a bunch of water I need to do something with
Sump pump?
I was thinking a drain pump meant for an indoor air conditioner head
idk. This seems like a lot of work to recover waste energy from an appliance that runs for maybe 8h a week.
lol, not even 8h
Hmm. If I exhaust it through a barrel of water the water should cool the air on the way out and remove all it's moisture, then the barrel would radiate it off over time.
But then I'm keeping a barrel of water in my garage
At 5kW still a substantial amount of energy
Including heating my parents house is doing about 160kWh per week, I'm on natural gas
I've done 160kWh in the last two days
lol
Currently at 210kWh between yesterday and so far today
But 2/3 of that is stupid fishtanks
I just had to put a bunch more heaters out there because the fishtanks were still getting too cold so I'm burning 8kw right now to heat those stupid things
My friend finally agreed to fix the insulation problem with them so hopefully we won't have to keep doing this going forward
Sous vide
I wish. He's got 2k of heaters in the tanks, I just rotated my 5kw garage space heater to blow out there, and he's got a propane space heater running out there too.
I really wish he would have listened to me and taken care of this insulation problem months ago, not now that it's -23c out
Ain't it a treat \
Heated seat as well?
Yep
Nice.
I am going to throw this damn govee corner lights. What a pain to convert to WLED
you bought govee? isn't that too low class for you? lol
Got a bunch on BF to add to ledfx. This ain't working.
Backto aliexpress and do my own DIY solution
Govee is some peak chinesium brand
an esp32 + argb strip of leds + power supply is cheap and easy.
LedFx has some really slick led matrix effects now too
And a broom stick and weight to hold it up to make one of those corner lights are also cheap
Been running ledfx forever. I use WLED for ledfx.
I submitted a PR to add LIFX support but I need to do some refactoring first
Hmm, I kind of like the idea of these corner lights actually. I might try making something like this myself.
The corner lights would make some badass VU meters, at least that was the plan. Now back to frames from China and DIY
If I DIY one I'll probably just get a black iron pipe and stick an LED strip to one side of it.
Yeah they have a 2d VU meter if you get a matrix array
Govee comes with 24V RGB+CCT, 4 led segments. What a shit show. Wish I knew.
Bad for ledfx
Yeah it makes chunky effects
LIFX has 6 led zones and basically a centered blade power was the only decent effect
I think I drive about 1200 leds on ledfx throughout lower level. Best thing ever.
Which one is you and which one is qf
Yeah they just added animated gif to the beat support
That's the only way I can have any kind of color in the house. Wife is cool with all my craziness but colors without music, hell no LMAO
My lights are normally just for color temp
The lights to the beat are just parties mostly lol
Same here. The entire backyard, all palm trees are VU meteres Lol
Running spectrum on all trees
Every once in a while I'll set all my indoor lights to some random color but I hardly ever actually use the color feature of my color bulbs
I change color temp all the time though
DDP made things so much easier
I had fun with my kitchen counters, I had 3 blade power+ configured to hi/mid/low for a spread out vu meter
Kitchen couneter white overide is a must 🙂
After being rescued by a Japanese training ship a few years ago I went out and bought bidets for my place. Haven't looked back (pun intended). They're most excellent.
separate ones, or the fancy integrated ones?
Similar to the one Rob posted earlier. https://www.thebidetshop.com.au/brochures/coway-ba07.pdf
What I wanna know is if there is a bidet with a 2-axis joystick to aim the nozzle
don't want to use the quinled's from drzzs? https://www.drzzs.com/shop/
For aluminum frames?
what
I am only looking for corner led frames. Not leds or drivers. I have tons of that at home. 😆
ah
Expensive fancy option https://8020.net/
T-Slots, aluminum extrusions, and parts. Architectural solutions and frames for industrial machine guards, workstations, data center enclosures, and more. Build your idea with 80/20 today.
Though I'm sure Ali has cheap extrusions
thought that was in the US for a second
Minus the cab over truck, it could be
nah there are a few other hints
Oeh tell me
traffic lights at the stop line, not opposing side
actual had lights that don't suck
I can barely tell what I'm looking at. A view out the window with a ton of reflection of the interior space obscuring the shot? With colored lighting?
Exactly
I have a couple pictures like that of Tokyo at night 😂
I'm not used to waking up with snow as my view
I wasn't patient enough for the motion controlled lights to turn off
did you sleep in the office? o.0
Nor am I. But that could be global news
Why would that be global news? Do you live in a volcano?
Why does it look like an office space
Snowing in San Diego near the coast would be pretty historic
that garden? down there looks more like parking or space for trucks to park/shunt
Generally barren houses within sight, something that looks mostly like an office or hotel tower directly there
Just doesn't look like anyone close to it made the place home 🤷
Hah
Right
So
This is an apartment complex which is a renovated office space of Fujitsu
So I live on the edge of 2 industry terrians
^^
Which has cons
The gas station gets robbed every so often
The busses don't drive on the weekend (or I have to walk 10 minutes)
are there any pros? 😂
And I look on to a wasteland
The pros
I have a McDonald's nearby
I have 6 supermarkets nearby
I have a racetrack nearby
It's affordable
ok, so you got an icecream place and less supermarkets than I got 😂
I only go to 3 lol
well, only 3 are really in walking distance
I could walk to the others, but I wouldn't want to carry groceries that far
But this is like a trail version of living on my own
My parents live 13 minutes away by car
Or 35 on the bike
I can get to mine within 3 minutes by car 😂
But everything here is crazy expensive
And now I can just learn living on my own
Oh and, the place itself is quite nice
I used to live further, since it was cheap and close to the university
But moved back here because I like the area 🙂
Yea I don't have to go to university anymore
I now have to travel about 1h30 to the office when I go to Rotterdam
Or 40 when I go to Utrecht
I have roughly 90min of commute
But I only go twice a week
I go every day otherwise I'm not productive
planned to go today, but got a bit of a cold and impaired sense of smell
so I'll stay home. No need to spread D:
I have a 15-20 minute commute each way
4 days a week in the office
Because I'm in the crunch of my thesis
Like I used to be crazy productive, but I'm just very slow with my thesis
but yea, My commute is just a single train for a bit more than an hour
so I generally get to use the time
^^ getting the data: easy
writing the paper: hard mode
last time i left for work i broke my arm, not going to do that again no no
I think it takes me 4hours or so to go to the next office
10+h flight to the others D:
I mean I still struggle with just finding out how I want to research stuff
Great success
^^ throw it against the wall and see what sticks. yw
What's yoru research topic? 🤔
How to make our applications configurable
We make applications for pension funds (for the participant to login)
And every application is custom
Like some share a codebase, but it's still custom
And I need to research how we can move the workload to consultants
some industry thesis are weird
Is this Masters? 🤔
Thanks, don't have any kids so printing these out to put on my fridge.
I get dry hands just looking at those drywalls
What an abomination of a building concept
better than fxcking skim plastering!
I have noe idea what that is
Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen that
Nice, -31c today, and 40cm of snow tomorrow
It was 28 in Tassie today. About to start raining for days though.
@clear ferry
what is that, 3SEK or 30SEK per kwh ?
3
😅 : ATX doesn't know that a mega is
wtf is a kilometer
A thousand measuring points
It's just very strange to refer to something in both mega and SEK
Neither we do in Norway
It is kWh and øre
🤦
that's a very normal unit for energy markets
in fact it's the standard unit
(for us it's EUR/MWh ofcourse)
That's a lot of markup ontop of those prices
that's just our idiotic regulation on energy prices 😦
Wholesale price is MWh
I thought you would be used to MWh with your power usage 🤣
Sorry, I only deal in local markets, my time in the energy trading stopped in the 80s when I bought my villa in Switzerland
Hey hey hey, I only pull about 120kwh today
Omg
I thinknwe used like 620kWh in December?
But we heat with pellets, so that is cheating
How to make free energy at home with dc motor
How to make generator at home
How to make free electricity at home
#free_energy
#sbcraft
#free_electricity
#generator
yea that is pretty accurate
It's sad how much faster things get worse these days.
"big" surprise
Broadcom being shit D:
Broadcom, where tech goes to die
best regards atx, that has to do engineering meetings with Broadcom
I guess it just means more will swap to proxmox and such
disgusting, but yes
ESXi makes little sense for homelabs, but the shitkids will freak out that the performance is not the same on kvm
out of the box at least
Everyone always talking shit for years about proxmox suddenly running into its arms
Hmm, i dont know under what cat my question will be fitting
Will be tado/homekit and zigbee
I wonder how i can trigger my Tado thermostat to start heating using a zigbee TRV in a different room
without burning my self up in the room that has the thermostat
Sounds like you need #automations-archived lol
Can anyone help me fault find?
I connected the plug into the wall outlet, but the device is complaining about a floating ground?
What is this fire hazard
Hasn't caught fire, but it is getting warm running the whole appartment building
Also included: bonus bare-end wires?
Isn't that how they should be?
I cannot believe that the standard plug fits in the din mounted RCD 🤣
That looks like the round prong eu style but yeah totally up to code I bet
even if it works, it's still stupid
Also isn’t that a 2-prong plug on the cord lol, what ground
It’s a pretty shit design, too bad there are so many of them we’ll never change
I hate the 120v aspect of it worst tho, our kitchen appliances are weaksauce
I thought about running a 240v outlet in my kitchen just for a kettle
just ordered a 3kW kettle earlier today
I love my kettle but it takes forever with American power
Modern kitchens here do 400 now I believe
For the oven / tops
Wow that’s juicy I’ve never seen more than 240
But prob awesome for an inductive top
Yes
Induction is king
Modern kitchens here usually have 6+ top spots with boost and 2x wall mounted ovens
Quite practical
I want an entirely new kitchen
Mine was built in 1980 and it’s got a stupid lowered ceiling
rages in 6 foot 8
I’ll never get the rage of a lowered ceiling in kitchens
You are two Tom cruises
Yea, they have been on 3phase here for ages
When do I get paid like 2x Tom cruise
Sorry, my job is not up for hiring
It's just between two 240V (to ground) phases
So it can pull 16A on that 3 times^^
only if you have a 3 phase sytem. Which you have to pay quite a bit extra for in your utility bill here, but it's possible
If you have 3 kitchen appliances on 3ph is it NEINphase?
Yeah 3phase isn’t cheap hookup here, mostly commercial only
The norm here since mid 90s
No. It's 3 phases into the house. So they'd share 3 phases, but might be on separate breakers
I've only ever seen single phase on stuff that's from the 70s or older o.0
🤢
Lol we got that Edison electric here in the US
I'm impressed the US didn't just do DC distribution
Are you at least on something better than 110V?
Cue dead elephant
230
HVDC transfer nets are the new stuff though
only for cross border connections
or very long distance + high capacity
I wish we had a low voltage standard in housing construction
It’s kinda dumb having to step down light sockets to led voltages
Give my light fixtures a low voltage bus I can put addressable devices on
Lots of devices these days just take line voltage and turn it into low voltage DC
All that redundant circuitry and power losses
and rectify like 100 times
Less dangerous for users
I don't wish. Double wiring everywhere, even more voltage conversions but now DC to DC
Us power is extra deadly with its 60hz signal too
If you were building a smart standard you could let the device negotiate its power
USB-pd for lighting lol
That would be cool
It would mean having a whole low voltage box next to the HV
But in my house the lighting generally gets its own runs from outlets… lol
It's mainly about voltage
True, would it run at 5? 12? 24? 48??
Too bad PoE lighting sucks lol
I’d just run everything at 12, toooons of leds in that voltage space lol
The higher the voltage the better. You will need very thick cables to carry any significant current at such low voltages though
and make sure the cabling is high admittance, or you get silly loss in house
Built in electric heating 👍
Lol
This is why the commercial lighting solutions just install a bunch of led drivers in the wall nearby
yea, if there's enough money and size to warrant custom setups
What's your DC BUS voltage?
I've done something similar for all my battery powered outdoor holiday stuff. Making my own battery replacers with cheap tiny DC to DC SMPS boards and powering it off 20 volts
Bout three fiddy
My head replaced the t and the f
so I was like
you wat
So you have a dirty mind
knew that
Nice, I run 2 48/24 with DC-DC bucks
Cheap and functional
Oh boy, nice buck, horrible trim lol
Fits within an AA footprint
Yeah, I just get it set and forget. I should probably hot glue them once it's set
I hot glued mine but replaced all with a different one.
I use the landscape lighting 12V AC rail as well, with 5V/5A modules for WLED
I removed the cruddy landscape lighting setup years ago. Last couple of times I just ran some magnet wire along the ground (I have a huge spool that's over 20 years old) and it just kind of blends in, but something more permanent with weatherproof connectors spaced around would be nice. Deutsch connectors came to mind but they're not cheap, even the ones you find on Ali
It was missery until I reaplced all with https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00J5MW1TM?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1
The DryConn GTSR with Yellowe Nut is perfect for making low voltage irrigation splices. Connections are made with a yellow nut wire connector, and a strain relief grease tube provides waterproofing and splice protection. Designed and manufactured in the USA, you can trust GTSR connectors for qual...
so it's basically a wire nut and a sh*tload of dielectric grease?
Yep.
fun. I could just squirt my wagos full of dielectric grease too 🤣
I have a big can (I hate it, it leaks like a bad caulk gun)
The latching mechanism, shoves the wire nut pretty deep in grease and I like the split so the grease fills back once latched.
Yep another trimmer 🤣
hmmm weather pack connectors might fit the inexpensive bill
What outdoor boxes do you use?
For AC power? Otherwise these would be exposed.
For LV, haven't found the perfect WLED ground enclosures yet
I haven't used any controllers in exposed locations. I used these project boxes under the eaves for my lights: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/
I made my own bungs out of urethane resin (3D printed) though
Mine are all half in-ground so rain and sprinkler exposure
nice found some weatherpack connectors for about $.50 ea after shipping
tried silicone glue/caulk?
now I just need to find dust caps for them...
Always, but some leakage from the rubber lid seals.
these are tiny and fit behind the socket
keystone, what's the power input?
You can glue that too. If you need something thinner you could probably glue it with E6000
Don't use anything 3d printed for outdoor use anymore. If it ain't going to last 5+ years I don't want to even start a project. Been there, done that!
Urethane should be good especially in a sheltered location where it won't get direct sun
I'd get that with an FDM or standard UV resin
that said I should figure out making molds for 2-part silicone
Most wled controllers are at the bases of Pygmy Date Palm trees so not much shade.
230V to 5V1A
https://www.arrow.com/en/products/psk-10b-s5/cui-inc pretty good as well for inwall down conversions.
not very safe with those pins sticking out
Tell that to the cheaper ones that are a board of exposed components
that's why I shared a good one 😛
Why would you want a USB sticking outside a wall plate to power something?
it's for circuit boards silly
how?
Lol how is that different than plugging a brick into an outlet?
it's integrated into the design and soldered on
nothing is sticking out
I thought the point was to down convert inside the socket
That’s why I love the outlets with integrated usb ports
Great way to delete bricks in certain areas
Tho if you need gfci too they’re way overpriced to add usb
yeah that would be best
but having the converter inside the socket does give you the possibility to hide cables
My favorite “cable hide” was taking my old thermostat wiring, moving it to the opposite side of the wall in the kitchen, and running 5v usb from the basement to drive a tablet from it
I had one of those dumb Honeywell thermostats that only ran 3 wires to the furnace, worthless for anything else but a power feed
You kids and your thermostats and furnaces
I got the dumbest thermostat ever, it doesn’t even have a schedule lol, I tell it what temp it is and manage my own schedules over zwave
With a modern panel you can do GFCI on the breakers instead
I’ve had electricians tell me code still requires gfci outlets in damp areas
yea, it's so weird to me that other countries don't have building/apartment level GFCI
We had to finish the job our contractor went AWOL on and GFCI passed local code inspection
we actually failed the first one because I missed a couple damp areas and had only put CAFCI on them
so we swapped for the GFCI breakers and passed
yeah - you know what was hard was finding an in-stock GFCI 2-pole for my in-garage EVSE
I don't know that Square D even offered a plug-on-neutral one, I had to buy one with the neutral pigtail
We have one of the combo breakers for the bathroom, and I got the built-into-an-outlet kind put under the house for extension cords you want to sling down the garden to run power tools
I think early 2000s it became mandatory to have them for the whole house here, but our place is early 90s
Never a bad investment to post add such gear
I believe NEC 2020 says that GFCI's need to be in subpanels now and can't be in the main panel
If I was reading it right
Which is why the ones that go in your main breaker box aren't in stock anywhere anymore
do houses come with multiple panels standard over there?
Not normally, but GFCI breakers are also not the standard here.
We implement GFCI in our outlets, all subsequent outlets chained off of a GFCI one are protected by that one
I see, because you mentioned sub panels as main installation point
Which got me a bit confused
Yea, if you want a GFCI breaker and don't have a subpanel you have to have a subpanel installed too now
I have zero understanding of the reason behind that change
But I saw people talking about it and from what I could tell it was a thing
Might force people not just to wire it in but to wire it in properly
But that doesn't make a lot of sense
I wanted to put my dryer on a GFCI breaker but I couldn't find any that fit my main panel because they were all discontinued a couple years ago
Big panel does not want people to know
Which led me down that rabbit hole
This is why I love DIN rails, everything just fits
Or doesn't!
They should just standardize on smiley for face
If they could agree on a charset
I have so far just put standard Schneider stuff in mine, it all fits nicely
Also what is this screws on the side nonsense?
More, aren't they meant to be on the accessible side of the device? So you take the faceplate off the board and can see all the fasteners
Yes but this would make it unnecessarily wide
Could get more difficult when trying to post install it somewhere
I mean it doesn't have to. Plenty of devices have "tiers" of contacts like this:
Is that really the same thing? The point of that one is to cover both sides of the split phase
I don't know what the wedding cake thing accomplishes
Pissing off whoever comes to do wiring next?
We also have the half width ones that add two circuits to one slot
For some reason all of my breakers are double-pull breakers like the first I linked, even ones that I'm 99% sure are just two separate 120v circuits
I was looking at my breaker box to see how I can install my IotaWatt and it's friggin' packed
no circuits left, lots of small breakers
small panel, outside my garage
My breaker box looks like hell after installing my Vue
Can't see the breaker box through all the clamp wires
I'm going to have to punch a whole into the back to get power to the IotaWatt, or to pull the clamp wires through
it's quite a rat's nest
Is your breaker box not in a fire resistant box? 🤔
I spliced into two existing circuits (it wants to monitor each phase) with a wire nut to power my Vue
This is the bottom of the box and I think I can punch through that bigger punchout to the right:
the one on the left is what my solar installer made, but I don't think it's big enough to push more wires through
+1 for Vue
see, I look at that picture and think "look at all the space you have!"
I was about to say lol
Did yall kill your main power when you installed that?
No
I gotta rip all the Tesla CT's out. What a load of BS that is.
I killed the two breakers I spliced into for power connections and that was it
The guy that did my hot tub wired up the whole line and breaker without shutting off the mains lol
Only time I've killed the main breaker is when replacing a sub-breaker
Why would you turn off the breakers?
Yea, even then I could have not killed the power when putting in the sub breaker
Something about “this will hurt the whole time you are dying” level of current in that box
lol
Well you can't turn off the top two lugs anyways
So just don't touch anything stupid
Touch but verify
Yea, I'm pretty judicious with my test probes when doing electrical work
Finally!!! This took sometime. 😆
Nice
6 more to go
Do you use the LedFx integration? I had to find a fork that actually worked
That went south sometime ago. Not anymore. Call scenes depending on if LEDFX CCA is playing
https://github.com/DeKaN/hass-ledfx this one works
Chrome Cast Audio is in certain groups. Depending on which areas I am playing, invoke scenes accordingly.
The parent branch maintainer went mia on that integration
Yes. Thanks let me check it out. I use rest.
Yeah this lets you control basically everything
Same as before I guess. I didn't use the old one that much as well. Ledfx scenes are CCA groups/devices dependent.
I wish they improve scene editing on ledfx sometime soon.
They did find some bugs recently related to it
Adding devices to existing scenes.....lmao
It’s easier to activate a scene and then create a new one from that state lol
That's what I do.
They code a terrifying amount of that app with help from ChatGPT
None of the regular devs for it are even programmers for a living lol
For me what a perfect app. Simply love it.
If you have wled it rocks
New ones supports audio delay. I wish there is a way to adjust device delay. Used to work just fine with E1.31
I am feeding mine with Snapcast, I can set a delay on that device and it gives data to LedFx earlier
CCA + ledfx does the same but that's not enough for me. Backyard edges need more delay so need some way of adjusting device delay
Just run another instance of LedFx lol
Been thinking about that. Split audio and use ledfx USB Audio delay.
Or just shove the code into gpt4 and ask it to code that feature, they’ll accept the PR lol
have you seen the domoticz codebase? Try there, they will accept anything lol
I love how I accept a GH copilot suggestion and it deletes half the file
oh right, I wanted to try the AI thingy at work tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder
Pretty soon when you gotta fill the shoes of three devs you won’t survive without it lol
im not a dev hehe
oh yea, it's gonna be great tools to make coding faster
though so far the suble ways it's constantly wrong make me probably slower in most situations
what are you using?
githubcp on ij has been pretty much useless for me so far
this probably needs a couple more years to refine
something under NDA at work
And not sure anymore what I tried at home before
though the one I want to setup tomorrow for work is the google cloud one. Since we are allowed to use it
The one I tried at home had no IDE integration. So it was pretty dumb
disagree, it's pretty good already (atleast with python)
if you only ever do script kiddy shit 😂
the fact that it works on one off scripts has no implications on actual software
There's also a clear difference between the baseline it has to compare to of peopel that actively claim to not be devs, and devs^^
ymmv
chatgpt for python numpy stuff works quite alright
but the only thing the gh one did for me on java was recommend increasingly senseless var names
eh frenck uses it and he is very enthousiastic about it. And he's insane
for kotlin i havent bothered trying it yet
maybe it has gotten better, but for writing tooling idk
Remember I saw someone had made a chatgpt enabled bash shell
And I was like
Jesus Christ my job is safe
that reminds me about the termius monstrosity
they added "ai" so now you cant tab complete directories anymore
Excuse me
??
Also, I love zsh partial completion, bash is like trying to get my 2 year old to do something
disabling it however also disables the password recommendations
...password recommendations?
Kotlin is awesome
what? I'm so confused what you are talking about D:
Me as well
I'll probably go to sleep in the next 10min or so. sooo
its way too freaky
This made me laugh so hard I had to screenshot it
The scary part is you could ask ChatGPT what’s so funny about that meme and it would probably do a good job
It can
It's Syntax diabetes
My sister used to make crazy cakes and someone asked for a bust of wilford brimley for their birthday. She put a glucose meter on the cake with a voice box inside that said "You got diabeetus" when you pressed it...
yea of course! let me just
fun includeEditor(skip: Boolean = false, user: User? = ticketHistory?.editor, configurator: (UserResponseJsonBuilder) -> Unit): TicketHistoryResponseJsonBuilder = modify(skip) {
it.editor = UserResponseJson.builder(user)
.apply(configurator)
.build()
}
like anyone could guess what it does
I've noticed gpt likes to shorten code just to save tokens or something
Like bitch I had it formatted the way I wanted it
Yes
There's nothing really 'uncanny valley' about that dude
Hold up
;D
its part of the TicketHistoryResponseJsonBuilder, which is returned by the modify(bool) method which consumes the modifier of a TicketHistoryResponseJson entity
modify kind ajust hides this mess
fun modify(skip: Boolean = false, modificationScope: (T)->Unit): B = this.apply {
if (!skip)
modificationScope(template)
} as B
yes
that is probably the worst
Yeah it's more surreal than uncanny but I kinda get it lol
The meme you've provided is known as the "It's Free Real Estate" meme. It features a man with a smug expression, whispering to the camera, which comes from a sketch from "Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!" The phrase "It's Free Real Estate" is superimposed at the bottom. The humor in this meme comes from its use as a reaction image to situations where something is being offered at no cost or with little to no catch, suggesting that it's an opportunity not to be missed. The phrase has been widely adopted on the internet to humorously convey that something is being presented as a "steal," or a great deal. The smug expression of the man adds to the comedic effect, implying a secretive or inside-joke quality to the opportunity at hand.
String?
thats not how data works sadly
there may be stuff that temporarily is null while generating the required dependencies
but that shouldnt force the api show it as nullable
Never had a problem with that tho
you can fake it somewhat with lateinit but that doesnt works for formerly known primitive types
Anyone know where to get reasonably priced name-brand cr2032s in the US?
so for those you fill in just out of range stuff to fix
Big box stores want upwards of $1/battery
I'm the idiot who replaces switches on live wires to avoid annoying other household members. Insulated screwdriver and needle-nose pliers and wagos to cover stuff...
I do it because I’m lazy
Bundles on Amazon. Costco packs of Duracell.
Also prices at home improvement warehouses on specialty batteries are often better than other places.
Short 120V shocks haven’t killed me yet
just very surprising
make sure to check the manufacturing date if you pick up batteries from anywhere
it may be cheap at places but if they are old you gain pretty much nothing
Guess I’ll try Home Depot
Just don't get off-brand cr2032's if you have small kids the the house
Only the name-brand has the bitter coating that could save your kid's life
That’s good information to know, thanks
I unfortunately know someone who lost their 2 yr old this way, it's tragic as fuck and people don't realize how deadly coin cell batteries can be
I want Panasonic but I’ll settle for Energizer, Duracell, or Rayovac
Shipping from DigiKey is too much to justify only buying batteries and Amazon brand CR2032s don’t seem to exist
I wouldn't even trust name brand to not be counterfit off amazon either
I’d never thought about it
I’ll just wait until I have to order more junk from digikey
https://onlybatteries.com/batteries/size/shop-all-sizes/?_bc_fsnf=1&Size=CR2032&sort=pricedesc&brand=68 don't know if these are a competitive price
Just don't leave coin cells hanging around loose
Agree, I think too many are unaware of the risks even
Does America have the baby safe packaging for coin cells?
The type where it's hard to cut it open as an adult?
I've seen cheap amazon ones not include it
You know, where there is an X in the back you can just push the battery thru without any tools
Not surprised the cheap ones don't
Anything sold in Australia has to be fully sealed in plastic and only opened by scissors. Which can be a pain
The Energizer 2032s that I've gotten from Amazon are a real pain in the ass to open. They have a cardboard backing, but I have to go all medieval on it with a screwdriver to get in there
I keep thinking that I'll be able to push them through, but it just doesn't work
That's cuz name brands don't like getting sued, it's only sketchy when its the noname cheap crap
Yeah the new kind seems to be heat-sealed shut around the circumference of the battery, and then glued onto the cardboard backing
So you have to rip it off, then trim around the edge to free the battery
I don't use a lot of them, just some Tile trackers and my car alarm remote. Remember them being an arse to get into though
Yeah the brands here are all that way in stores
I'm also surprised they've not done anything to mandate child-proof packaging for dishwasher detergent packs.
Apparently those can be a big problem, because they're sweet-smelling, mouth-sized, and usually stored in the cupboard under the sink.
Containers of powder dishwasher detergent have child proof tops, but not the tablet kinds
Last time I bought powdered detergent it had a plain metal pour spout on the side
But yeah you'd think the tide pod craze woulda caused more uppity laws
most dangerous stuff isnt child proof
kinda why it says "keep out of the reach of children"
I had an uncle go to the hospital for a case of lawn dart in the hand and he turned out fine
Apparently they were out trying to catch them lol
Gah I can't with these devs, trying to ship an app with a fixed passsword salt and pre-created users in the database
2032's makes me wanna rethink life
Especially when the zip lock part barely seals them normally
A child may as well dip their hand in lol
likely just the effects of eating too much grass
They should have items for kid-less peeps. I didn't sign up for this
Dogs are never interested in 2032's
Lol, and you can buy a doormat that says "we are a warning label-free household"
None of that stuff works at my place, starting with shoes.
Not ever going to have kids?
No. Can fund few hundred elsewhere with same amount $$
wtf does items for kid-less peeps mean
Child proof lol
the worst thing they child proofed is chlorine tablets
they are
- hand sized
- go into pools
- dont belong into food shelves
LMAO
why do they need this
Life could be so simple.
even for medications this is a bit weird
Don't even get me started with medicatons
they cant slurp the cough syrup but they can easily overdose on tablets right next to it
only child proof thing I ever had issue with are those round doorknob covers. some of them don't collapse and get a grip even for an adult to try and twist open the door
Pillpack sorted out that for me. No more bottles. Supplements, sorted!
we dont usually get them in bottles around here
they are just inside those fancy pop out trays
wtf thats a real thing
Yes, been for years
Yay, more plastic waste!
that seems like a pretty good thing for old people
or for those that dont want to bother remembering what to take
you calling queef old?
LMAO
take 1 tablet by mouth daily
how else are they going to take it
For me it's supplements, can't be bothered to remember. Break a bag and go for it. Done!
@forest edge Yep, welcome to the bubble.
Aazon bought pillpack few years ago. Jeff knows what's good 🙂
wonder how much extra that is
Same price.
same price as ordering your shit off amazon
thats what the amazon purchase button thingy was for ;D
so they probably mess up from time to time and you jst tear the bag and swallow all of it without checking lol
100%
your gonna be right there with the norwat taking estrogen pills and not even know it
more is always better
Just imagine 20+ supplements and keeping track of that shit
Let Amazon handle that stuff
at some point the effects start to cancel out or something
man boobs in LA is normal right?
You know right?
you also get those from too much burgers
does that make it out-n-in
is that two burgers and an egg?
knowing america it likely is "cheese"
No buns. Who eats buns anyways
the worst eating experience i had so far was at 5guys
is it normal that they expect you to eat out of the bag?
5 guys? Sorry that's not a SoCal thing.
yes
Never had and don't want to.
nothing wrong with 5guys those fries are good
i already hate not eating from real plates at the more common stores
but straight out of a paper bag in a seated area
really
thats super weird
@forest edge some NZ pink lobster. Thinking of you...
Why on earth would you cook good tasting stuff?
not in the habit of intentionally trying to give myself diarrhea
looked at that in-n-out menu.. that place is nothing like it use to be
Them this wouldn't be your thing?@forest edge
who the hell eats deep fried spider?
One day you need to come with me to China.
no thanks.. doing good to still be covid free
You don't know what you are missing @forest edge
loss of taste, breathing problems and potential brain damage.. i know exactly what i am missing lol
its not a bat
LMAO.
it even is smart, there are qr codes to scan
Everything is WeChat pay
kinda neat
isn't that the goverment ran thing they force all of thier citizen to use?
I saw a linus tech tips where they bought a tv from china that wouldn't even work till they registered thier account with wechat or whatever lol
Nopes, GOV is losing it with WeChat since most money is in there. Even to most remote villages and if you want something it's WeChat Pay
if your social credit is low you loose tv watching rights (or it limits the active screen area)
Only thing I don't understand about China is their love for Jeep and Dewalt.
vs japan and karoke to old 80's music
the best kind of music
Jeep T-shirt can make wheels turn down in Shenzhen
@peak cloud is the expert in that area
Yes, yes I am 😂
lol see
@peak cloud Oh wow. DUDE! How the hell are you?
jeep weirdos
It's been ions.....
Hint, it's no longer 2019/early 2020, covid is in basically every country
care less about what countries it's in.. just not going to temp fate by visiting it's birth place
you might be able to bring a new present
@static schooner 😀
Same logic as not wanting to go to the USA because of syphilis then
getting shot
thats would be california only
The separate remote is definitely a level-up. I'm kinda surprised that they don't do that for all of them
seems like a mountable remote wouldn't be that much more complicated, and would eliminate some of the bulkiness
One day when you get on that Greyhound and arrive at Union, all your fears will be gone!
yea cause the greyhound wouldn't make it.. likely die somewhere in colorado lol
You must come to LA. Hopefully when I am in town.
So you can try and hit him at 150mph whilst you play on your phone and drive?
Of course. How else would you drive here?
Legally
I never do anything illegal. Come on now. '
sounds hard.. you make it sound like you are only in LA for a few hours every 3rd tuesday of every leap year
By that logic qf isn't going to be back, his last Tuesday was yesterday/today 😂
why he posted a picture of him eating out.. kind of his farewell tradition to his wife lol
LMAO. Wife says that same.
https://buildingdetroit.org/properties/ownitnow/ so many oppurtunites.
Description
lol detroit
there are shows on youtube that highlight the house flipping of abandoned neighborhoods
they take these properties that looked like they were once decent.. gopt squatted in for several years.. they flip then want a pretty penny for the result
no way in hell am I gonna pay a premium for a house where people have been shitting all over and inside the walls
Started in 2022 down there. Been pretty awesome. Got a LA team housed there permanantly. Loving it.
you would.. it's alot like LA lmao
i'll judge.. it's a shithole
anywhere where you can roll a 3 sided dice before leaving your home to predict what likely bad shit is going to happen to you is a shithole
Honestly it's not that bad in some areas. For me as long as money talks. Area is irrelevant.
uh huh
you live in a locked down gated community with security
as far as your concerned everywhere around you could be submerged in lava with escape from LA style apocolypse but as long as your gated community looked nice you'd be happy lol
Sounds like snowcrash
Isn't that the one thing you want, be oblivious.
Talking about gated. Thanks to tasker gate CID now turns on all front yard LED's without waiting for yard PIR sensors.
Being nice to uber eats.
Nopes no flood lights. Why would you need them. Just landscape and RGBW fairy sutff.
rgb fairy stuff huh
All palm trunks.
I don't mind the mini versions like what they stick inside bottles etc cause they are too small to see the little globs but the bigger stuff i don't care for
These are super nice. Mellow is the keyword.
s / debris.Size:See the product dimension drawing Electrical safety level :I level Voltage:AC220V/24Vlife time: 50,000 hoursBrand: Cree,OsramControl Method:single color light on constantly protecting level:IP66suitable environment: -25°-45° ModelNo.ModelVoltagePowerColorLedquantityBS-8011BS-801.024*02.00DC24V48WSingle
thats a long url lol
I don't want to ruin it, but I don't think these people know anything about palm trees
suitable environment: -25°-45°
Pretty sure they don't grow in a sizable chunk of that temperature range
Lol that's like the people that try planting them in seattle and watch them die every winter
There is one 'hardy palm' that'll survive here and looks like shit
@forest edge going to try out these next https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256802064057239.html
Planning to try them out at garage doors.
I have one of these palms in my back garden: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_canariensis
Looks nice, but it has some vicious spikes on it
Phoenix canariensis, the Canary Island date palm or pineapple palm, is a species of flowering plant in the palm family Arecaceae, native to the Canary Islands off the coast of Northwestern Africa. It is a relative of Phoenix dactylifera, the true date palm. It is the natural symbol of the Canary Islands, together with the canary Serinus canaria....
thats like shit you put in those fany houses that are mostly just glass windows lol
Don't let your heart be toubled. Let me test it out first. Having a shop in China is not a good thing. LMAO>
One day I will have a desktop in the house. One day.
razer use to actually be a good brand eons ago
but my last two have been complete shit
My desktop is in the garage. Some logitech keyboard. No major componets inside the house. My rules are hurting me. LMAO.
wtf kind of rule is that?
Rule of nothingness is the house.
whats the point of having a house then?
No pictures, no electronics in the house.
Sounds like you need an electronics shack/out building
you watch tv and listen to your music and nuke stuff in the garage?
TVs and Speakers only. Everything else is on racks in the garage.
Oh no. Wife's into minimalist look. I kinda like it too. When shit happens in the background it's even better
Yes exactly that lol.
The damn echo in the house sometimes gets to me.
Now the bar is too crowded. Gotta redeisgn that shit.
seems like maybe you're a spy and may need to leave the country at a moment's notice
That's what friends say.
or make it look like you've already left
Friends always ask about pictures..... LMAO
yea your not making any trip to visit sound appealing at all you weirdo lol
Sorry, it is what it is. lol
serial killers in movies are often very neat and live in empty homes..
meanwhile if you visit me you may wanna get a tetanus shot beforehand
kept to himself, lots of loud sounds coming from the garage...
I wouldn't expect anything less from middle earth
outdoors is scary
you would probably like our airport tho. we just built a new fancy one
i not been there yet but the sketeches made it all look futuristic
Will be spending some time there in March 🙂
i'll be sure to give the locals a heads up so they can prepare the brass knuckles
This is the first time I actually needed the arrow to see the joke
Hey, I parked 15m ago, might be snowing
I need a good book to read
I read this on holiday lmao
I’m just the guy who runs IT, I try not to code for a living haha
I swear tho I’ve read just about all the science fiction worth reading at this point
The Skinner by Neal Asher?
I’ll give it a look
Oh Man. You have a whole (Polity) Universe waiting. He is definitely up there with IMB.
I’ve read pretty much all Ian banks
I'm kinda pissed that Mr Banks died. I had to read a few of his non scifi works. They were... strange.
The last author I really enjoyed finding was Greg Egan
Super hard sci-fi but fascinating stuff
Quarantine is a great one of his
Ooh. Haven't read any of that. I'll check it out. Thanks.
Schilds ladder is stuck in my brain too
if you want something lighter then Glynn Stewart, Evan Currie, Eric Thompson, and Joel Shepherd are worth a look
Oh, and Blaze Ward, as well as Terry Mixon
I've just finished A. A. Attanasio's Radix Tetrad. That guy is on some good drugs.
Damnit now how am I gonna make coffee
extra crunchy
Let’s see how quick Amazon can get one here lol
I mean, I have a low expectation of companies delivering glass items
Peter Hamilton's Salvation trilogy is also quite good. Read all three in two weeks on a voyage back home.
I read his commonwealth series
Jonathan E. Hernandez's Gordian Knot series is good too. At least the first two books are, haven't started number three
Same scale, maybe bigger but I rate it better.
I wish there were more bobiverse and murderbot books I haven’t read, those are a good series
Tho the last two for both were a little weak
Ah... you like those do you... let me dig out some other suggestions then
Eh they’re quick
Yeah, I mix my deeper reading with light and quick
That’s like Greg Egan, inventing life with new kinds of rules of physics, I need a light palette cleanser after
Not SciFi, but lighthearted and bounces along are most things by Orlando Sanchez
Michael Anderle is hit and miss, but some stuff is fun and light, though some ... yeah, let's not go there
Joshua Dalzelle is another I'd put on the quIcker end of the scale
I know who to annyoy if I ever run out of books to read again lol you have a laundry list
"Tolkien meets Shock and Awe" lol
Oh yeah, reading is my other hobby, and I read a lot
I go in spurts where I'll read 5 books a week and then have to take a break to be more productive
SciFi, fantasy, horror, thriller, and most things in between
Sometimes I'll hit a book so bad I have to just stop reading for a few days lol
Oh yeah Blake Crouch has some great stuff if you want scifi thriller type
Recursion and Upgrade were pretty good
Cool, I'll add those to my list
He was the dude that wrote Wayward Pines that got turned into a show (book was much much better)
Dark Matter was prob my fav of his tho
Anways thanks for the recs all, I should have plenty in the backlog now haha
orders a new coffee pot
Damnit this is like the third pour over I've broken according to my amazon history... I think I have a problem
how did you even do that in the first place
This time I managed to bump it with my hand reaching for something else and it fell over and hit the metal edge lip of my stove
Even tho this is borosilicate glass, I think with multiple years of heat cycling they don't tolerate being knocked over lol
Lol my wife came down and saw me shopping for a coffee pot and was like "how many of these have you gone thru now already??"
I was like... uhh... a number?
finally found a good use for the 32 spare 2TB SSDs I have laying around
using them for specific mounts as needed
are WoW assets this large now?
