Hi, is udpbroadcastrelay still working on your pfsense?

lapis ravine
# sand agate Yes it is

I'm trying to relay WeatherFlow tempest udp port 50222 broadcast, from the IOT vlan to the HA vlan

#

I installed udpbroadcastrelay on pfsense ce 2.6.0 (freebsd 12.3) and ran the following:
udpbroadcastrelay --id 42 --port 50222 --dev re1.900 --dev re1.10 -d
and the result is...
ID set to 42 Port set to 50222 ID: 42 (DSCP: 42, ToS: 0xa8), Port 50222 re1.900: 15 / 10.0.9.1 / 10.0.9.63 re1.10: 17 / 10.0.0.65 / 10.0.0.127 found 2 interfaces total Done Initializing

#

tcpdump on the re1.900 interface does show the udp packets from the WF hub to 255.255.255.255, but nothing is showing on the re1.10 interface

sand agate
#

This is what I have in my Shellcmd /usr/bin/nohup /usr/local/sbin/udpbroadcastrelay --id 1 --port 5353 --dev igb0.107 --dev igb0.10 --dev igb0.100 --multicast 224.0.0.251 -s 1.1.1.1 -f > /dev/null
Looks like I have the additional multicast flag as well as -s (whatever that is)

lapis ravine
#

I figured I would not need the multicast flag since it is only using the broadcast address

sand agate
#

🤷 I have no idea lol. When it comes to broadcast/multicast I don't know much

lapis ravine
#

okay, thanks.
I still need help if anyone else is familiar with either udpbroadcastrelay or the WeatherFlow to MQTT addon

sand agate
#

@lapis ravine you might have to set your source ip (the -s is the source ip)

lapis ravine
sand agate
#

@lapis ravine also, you may need to make sure to add a firewall rule as relayed packets do not establish a RELATED firewall relationship

#

That is pretty much all I know about it

lapis ravine
#

yeah, I've tried 1.1.1.1.
And this data is one way, not as complicated as Sonos or other "discovery" communications that require return packets.
For now, I'm just sniffing packets on the other interface to see if there are any broadcast packets, but there are none.

#

I'm not sure this binary is actually binding to anything.
What version of pfsense / freebsd is still working for you?

sand agate
#

I am CE 2.6.0 FreeBSD 12.3

#

Are you making sure to use /usr/bin/nohup /usr/local/sbin/udpbroadcastrelay

lapis ravine
#

I tried that too... but that should only matter if I am closing the terminal and the binary is not in my PATH

sand agate

# fallow karma *New* is less than 20 years old for me.

My own car is a 99 V70 that has gone 292k km.

I have a works Octavia that we have as a company car, I pay tax for the right to use it privately and pay for the fuel that I use doing that, but all repairs etc are covered by the company. About the cheapest car you can possibly own.

There is no way I would have a new car otherwise.

The saga is this, I ordered in April 21, Skoda (and VW and Audi and Seat) had issues with software and all their platforms were effected. My work decided to not take in more cars till they were fixed, so they sat on the order until September 21. When the order finally went through it was delayed from "you will have it by Christmas" (2021) to it not have started being built yet, so probably 0 chance of it being in 2022 either now.

The part that sucks most is that it is a hybrid and I need a charging point. We buy them ourselves, and get back 3kr (sek) per kWh the car charges for, until the government change the tax rules, but I don't want to be out 20k sek for a charger point I can't use. So I have to time the order and installation of that around a car that I don't know if or when it comes haha

clear ferry
#

Money back for charging

#

That's a great idea

#

I get 3.5nok paid per kilometer driven in any car

#

Good money with EV

#

Costs me 180 nok to charge the leaf at 3nok per kWh, and with 400km range that means 1200 back

glacial knot
#

so you'd make money if you just have someone drive around the roundabout?

clear ferry
#

If I could say it was for work

#

#

Wouldn't be the strangest request I've had

last cedar
# clear ferry Money back for charging

Work uses to give away the charging point, it was okay. Now that is not allowed. So basically they will pay for it eventually, instead. All dependant on when the government decides to stop it

#

I am worried it will be soon as they are threatening electric shortages

last cedar
#

For me to get the 3 kr, the charger has to report the usage

#

But there is no way of telling what I was charging, so theoreticqlly you could charge all your neighbours cars on rotation, and then they would have to prove you are not being honest

#

But we have to have their charging point, we are not allowed to tell them how much we have charged for

#

Which seems silly, as it is very easy to check

clear ferry
#

Well

#

With tibber you can

#

I can see how much my Volvo has charged

#

If the car integrates into tibber, it will track usage per car

#

Unfortunately the leaf does not, so that comes as a seperate charged total number, with no ties to car

#

Which is easy with two cars, with three where two aren't integrated, that would be impossible

last cedar
#

So we only have 3 chargers to choose from

#

clear ferry

#

DSL in 2000

inner lava
#

How much did you pay for those over the years tho :)

clear ferry
#

Not a lot

#

Installation was $300 for the ftth in 2005

#

Think it was $50 a month

#

Was between 50-100 over the years per month

inner lava
#

I'd call 50 a month rather much actually

clear ferry
#

It is nothing tbh

#

I currently pay $90 for 350/350

#

Swedes pay a lot less

#

Norwegian internet has always been mid priced

inner lava
#

I'm paying 80€ for gigabit up/down without any major dropouts so far yet (except when some idiot took an excavator to the fiber line lol)

clear ferry
#

I saw you could get 10Gbit for $100 or so a month in Switzerland

#

But, what did you pay for ftth in 2005? ;-)

inner lava
#

We had DSL back then I think, if at all

#

😭

clear ferry
#

Oh it's only €43 in Switzerland

#

For 10G/10G

inner lava
clear ferry
#

Swedes got 1/1 in 2003 if I remember correctly

inner lava
#

80€ is already considered a damn good price for my connection, was even 100€ a month but since I know my provider personally, well lol

clear ferry
#

Pretty cheap too

inner lava
#

Not even sure when we got our first connection here

clear ferry
#

€30 in Sweden for 1/1 now

#

Think I can get it for €120 with my current provider, €50 with the cheapest

inner lava
#

To get back to earlier, I barely scratch 870MBit/s down and roughly 920MBit/s up with my current box, and that's already with some config file modifications that enable some Intel specific things. Not entirely sure anymore what that was.

#

But I do get the full Gigabit up/down when directly connecting a PC and configuring the provider VLAN and everything

#

So it's not a connection limitation, it's really just my box coming to its limits :) And CPU is at 100%

clear ferry
#
