Norwegian ISPs usually tell Murica legislators to build a mudhut anyway
sadly we have our own blood suckers
or well worst case, get the mole vpn for 4,50 a month
Anyone has tried to paint a smart Home Button so it glows in darkness?
Shouldn't be hard, glow in the dark paint is cheap, and smart buttons are cheap
Not that I've ever seen a need for it
but I have working night vision
my wife on the other hand does not
Probably all the carrots you eat
correct, but frozen mud cave is an acceptable answer as well
Good thing the world is warming up and air conditioning exists
We'll find a way to use it all
They have so much power up north now that they are just having to drop it
$4-5M a day in lost revenue
While here down south we have so little power that we are having to have subsidies
Let me introduce you to the 'power grid'
Yeah, for some reason they decided not to make the interlinking very good
so they can only transfer so much
so the swedes are buying it from the north, transporting it south and selling it back to us
with profit
half Texas solution

I should pickup my Yellow² from customer so I can install HAOS on it and post pictures in #yellow-archived

Think it had Intel Xeon E3-1284L v3 + 64GB RAM and dual NVMe + 10G 🤔
It's not common here for fizzy drinks, though they do exist. More likely to find a litre of milk, or spirits
Milk is either 0.5, 1.0 or 1.75 here
Spirits are usually 0.5 or 0.75, although 1.0 does exist
As the saying goes, I don't have a drinking problem. I drink, get drunk, and fall over, no problem.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a HDMI de-embedder that can go between ARC hdmi output of a TV and a soundbar
And output downmixed stereo to analog or Toslink and pass the audio through to the soundbar
For the wife?
Looking at getting a Sonos beam with ikea rears
But it's all moot if I can't output to toslink or rca simultaneously
Some TVs can do dual output, might be good to see if your TV can do it?
(But can recommend the Sonos & ikea stuff, has been working perfectly for me & sounding good too)
Yeah, all of mine could always do dual
Both arc and headphones+toslink out
For Samsung and LG
I looked at the Sonos Arc recently, but went with Klipsch Cinema 600 instead
Very happy
sounds like a very german problem
we produce plenty power in the north, but the south who consumes it the most refuses to build new powerlines, because "they are ugly"
Mine does dual output if one of those sources is tv speakers
But typically HDMI arc gets completely offloaded
My experience is 0/4 for that capability
Samsung, Sony, LG and Samsung
Too much power is a real issue tho
The energy needs to be used
Physical batteries could be a solution like pumping water uphill
but that's expensive and difficult to create
and only really works in certain areas
The price difference between north and south is currently 486%
North and south what
Norway
¯_(ツ)_/¯
I replaced the wifi card in my laptop. Was so much easier than I thought it'd be
from wifi 5 700mbps to 5000mbps wifi 6e
Literally took 15 minutes lmao
@clear ferry get a hydrogen generator
Surely will be no issues for anyone, or your own nuclear power station
A screw into a lift control unit?????
What?
My university runs its own nuclear reactor
What the job is that
Who planed that location
And who excutes it
That's not a logic to screw into a lift controller
Gief
@last cedar
oh surprjse
It's a feature not a bug
I'm sure they were just validating their disaster recovery strategy
also trying to adding my rpi microcontroller to hass
To be fair, not enough orgs really test their DR plans. It's amazing how rarely they actually work.
What do you mean that one keyholder is overseas on holiday, and the other is in a pub, somewhere, drunk off their face?
i do test mine
(Not the physical style one, but for my backends)
but sometimes it fails due to my error
like accidently download it to a circutpy drive
so i need more pratice i think
DR Plans should account for human error, and should be well documented
They'll get long, but that's the nature of a good plan. It covers all the common failure modes, and as many of the uncommon ones as you experience
first step i should add
UNPLUG all circutpython device
My DR plan is run around like a headless chicken then deal with it later
That's scarily close to the DR plan I've seen in many commercial orgs
😂😂😂
Granted I’m probably ahead as I have offsite backups to other cities & overseas too
That's a step up from most
Rsync is painful but it’s worked for me
Added my rasp pico to hass
I've seen one that got it really right, they ran a multi-site setup in an active cluster and would fail out one location every week. They even used their backups to build a test environment for deploying changes. That processed followed the site DR plan.
They knew, and fixed, all the failure states for their DR plans, and knew their backups were good as they were using them at least weekly
Wow that’s impressive
They understood the value in doing it right (they got other stuff wrong instead)
My DR plan for home is go back to a generic router to provide backup wifi until I can get something working
Then slowly rebuild
I have a spare router - mostly because when I upgraded the service they sent me another one, so I configured it and put it on the shelf
I don't have a spare switch, but ... eh, those things run forever. Right? Right?
you can do without games for a while 🙂
I have 2 almost equivalent switches either way. So if one fails...
I also have one for similar reason (I needed one for my service immediately, swapped after I got around to proper networking)
Same shit we have in Sweden
can relate
What do you mean it is all in the head of that one guy, who by chance died of a heart attack the week before the dr plan was needed
Is the southern norwegian grid completely cut off from the north?
Not completely
Many northern europe country sell energy to the more southern countries like gernomoney, since its more profitable.
The more northern parts of norway, sweden and finnland dont have enough high power transmission line capacity for it.
Google translate this will give you the numbers
Paired with this image
Just make power lines go through mountains
so all the power is produced where nobody lives?
Well, usually we have enough power down south
Not the last two years
Which is a very drastic and fast change
lots of hydropower in the north I imagine. And it's cold and mountainy so not many people live there
and unlike flatter countries it's hard to build high capacity grids
Sweden doesn't have the latter excuse. It's pretty silly that it makes more sense to transport energy from northern Sweden to northern Finland and then from there down south and back to Sweden
If only there was a way to see that people would be using more electric, and that Germany would turn off their reactors, for example... if only there was some way to know /s
3rd world problems..
More like 1st world problems, when we need to pay more for stuff. It becomes 3rd world problems when you have a whole state without power
In KC? That's normal right?
sorry couldn't read your message while looking at this map... https://www.cummins.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/Outage7 - In-story image 1.JPG
I think you are always worrying about things that's pointless. Yep, worry about the state with most, solar panels, battery back ups and genracs 🤣
yet ironically you still manage to hold the record for sheer amount of power outages in total lol
you may wanna invest more in those battery back ups lol
what good are these fancy solar and wind farms when the delivery lines that supply that power to the homes are always on fire? lmao
I'll just say that California is a pretty big state and all parts are not equal
yea a small portion hogs all the resources and watches the other parts starve lol
we were hit by rolling blackouts for a few hours a few years ago, but it's really not an issue in San Diego
It's not like putting 2 x incandescent bulbs at 2 corners of a barn. We got things to run and the consumption, I just think you can comprehend living in a state like MI@forest edge
Just like atx compares 3 Sq ft landmass and 2 people to US, every 3 minutes, just not comparable
I call bullshit, most of your silicone valley done left for texas.. the only thing you have left to power is your ac units and water pumps now lol
You dream. Only con artists left to TX
uh huh lol
Do you ever hear a Californian or New Yorker ever mention a name of another state?
yes
It just don't matter.
when they come here fleeing for thier lives
Like I said it's not for everyone, people who leave mostly can't make their worth, sad but that's that.
there are videos showcasing mud hut villages in california at the likes even @clear ferry would be proud to call home
You can drool its alright. Unfortunately, there is no KENTUCKY CITY dream, so there's that. Collectively do better to make it a dream and not place where people who lost their dreams end up.
you cali's had your 15 minutes of fame, now all you got left is flames
the rest of the country runs on what we make here. almonds, apparently
wino's
All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray, I've been for a walk on a Missouri day
Oh other than cloud berries. 🤣
the midwest produces plenty
Meth yes
maybe lol
I am going to get booted from this flight laughing out this loud.
GTS start talking about North Dakota, something KC can relate to.
@clear ferry found cloud berries in Alaska. Plenty there.
It's a thing there, who knew.
Not as good as the Norwegian ones, Alaska is just more russian Norway with more Southern climate and more bears
kind of have to disagree with you on that one
Will check out Norway ones next month if they available
I'll drop them off at the airport for you
Frozen berries picked up north last year
I have multiple kilos in my fridge
Great on lefses
I will keep you posted, planning to stop by for 2 nights
ew your going to norway?
Was not planning, but gotta meet a friend.
more lies, no one befriends norwegians
Well it's a long ass journey, 2 days not gonna kill me
Been there done that.
this is why you are oblivious to all the shit happening in your state. you are never there lol
you are the living version of Tom Hanks in that movie The Terminal
watching cali burn on tv in the airport lol
London, Dubrovnik, Istanbul, some Swiss cheese and Amsterdam/Norway. Hopefully 12 days will be enough. 🤣
enough to catch something contagious for sure
that's a superspreader trip, for sure
no way you're coming back without some sort of pox
Come visit me, and being me a raccoon
Sweden
A/S/L
Lol
Ooooh
AIM used to be asl not a/s/l come on now
About 3/ yes please/ currently outside a house with a doormat
#justraccoonthings
About 100km east of Stockholm
Give or take
Been there many times. Love it.
Are we confirming my raccoon delivery then?
Is this the moment I have been waiting for my whole life?
I only have a tickets to London and return from AMS. So going to take it as it comes. Wife has friends to meet in London. I have 2 street food places to try in Istanbul, rest is mix and match. 😀
do you work for something flight related?
No
How come you fly so much then? Just bored and got the means?
Some work some fun, but I do collect loads of miles flying for work.
My only hope is if one happens to escape whilst I am at a wildlife park
That would be terrible
Haha.
we warn kids about that early in life
Y'all cray
we do have these kinda ending sidewalks here as well
but they always continue on the other side. And the road is max 2 lanes (total, not per direction)
The area around my parents' house in Atlanta is completely devoid of sidewalks and it drove me crazy. No problem here
@clear ferry MO is good. You should try Connecticut 😜
@forest edge Dude what's up with MI and internet, shit you not, everytime you pass MO area, internet gets sucked right out. What gives???
Finally
It's just logic
probably the best scene of the movie - and it's one of the greatest movies of all time 👀
Greatest of all time 🤯🤔
I mean it's between The Matrix, 2001, and Vertigo for me
told ya before, we don't like freeloaders. get your own internet from somewhere else you moocher
So no big energy?
Why would you walk barefoot down a street. That’s just dangerous
@forest edge love the way your people show love 👍 I guess KC got people with "go back attitude" 🤣 1765 all over again.
that your car?
ours end at a roadside dirty water ditch
so if you keep walking without seeing
goood luck
that picture is from Oregon your neighbor lmao
Please will you consider creating a 3D Printing channel so those of us that print can discuss it and share designs for things like switch plate covers and sensor brackets? Thank you
@gaunt ermine You don't have (and don't want) to tag all mods in every time zone for that discussion. There are enough around that one would see this
You call all mods when there is something urgent, like a spam account for example
Sorry. I didn't know what the system was
I've untagged it. I'm in another community where that is expected behaviour if you want the mods to look at something
Adding a 3d print channel has come up before. We can probably add it but I'll ask the others
Thank you
Or if anyone catches me a pet raccoon
just completed a Proof of concept of running apple carplay in home assistant. Audio was routed through snapcast to all clients. UI embedded in an Iframe. Actually feels super nice playing radio and songs through spotify! Also aslong as the browser that home assistant is run in allows access to a microphone should be able to get siri working too
Almost forgot how to flash tasmota 😆
Nice one!!
are sticking the wires into the AC outlet properly?
Always
Aftermath - everyone massacred by the raccoons who didn't get the food
just dont bother with it, its that easy
you'll probably love that one @clear ferry

Hi, is udpbroadcastrelay still working on your pfsense?
Yes it is
I'm trying to relay WeatherFlow tempest udp port 50222 broadcast, from the IOT vlan to the HA vlan
I installed udpbroadcastrelay on pfsense ce 2.6.0 (freebsd 12.3) and ran the following:
udpbroadcastrelay --id 42 --port 50222 --dev re1.900 --dev re1.10 -d
and the result is...
ID set to 42 Port set to 50222 ID: 42 (DSCP: 42, ToS: 0xa8), Port 50222 re1.900: 15 / 10.0.9.1 / 10.0.9.63 re1.10: 17 / 10.0.0.65 / 10.0.0.127 found 2 interfaces total Done Initializing
tcpdump on the re1.900 interface does show the udp packets from the WF hub to 255.255.255.255, but nothing is showing on the re1.10 interface
This is what I have in my Shellcmd /usr/bin/nohup /usr/local/sbin/udpbroadcastrelay --id 1 --port 5353 --dev igb0.107 --dev igb0.10 --dev igb0.100 --multicast 224.0.0.251 -s 1.1.1.1 -f > /dev/null
Looks like I have the additional multicast flag as well as -s (whatever that is)
I figured I would not need the multicast flag since it is only using the broadcast address
🤷 I have no idea lol. When it comes to broadcast/multicast I don't know much
okay, thanks.
I still need help if anyone else is familiar with either udpbroadcastrelay or the WeatherFlow to MQTT addon
@lapis ravine you might have to set your source ip (the -s is the source ip)
I tried that optional flag too. no luck
@lapis ravine did you try it with 1.1.1.1? https://github.com/marjohn56/udpbroadcastrelay#udp-broadcast-relay-for-linux--freebsd--pfsense--opnsense
@lapis ravine also, you may need to make sure to add a firewall rule as relayed packets do not establish a RELATED firewall relationship
That is pretty much all I know about it
yeah, I've tried 1.1.1.1.
And this data is one way, not as complicated as Sonos or other "discovery" communications that require return packets.
For now, I'm just sniffing packets on the other interface to see if there are any broadcast packets, but there are none.
I'm not sure this binary is actually binding to anything.
What version of pfsense / freebsd is still working for you?
I am CE 2.6.0 FreeBSD 12.3
Are you making sure to use /usr/bin/nohup /usr/local/sbin/udpbroadcastrelay
I tried that too... but that should only matter if I am closing the terminal and the binary is not in my PATH
How did you install?
I think I used shell... but it has been so long ago that I did it that I don't remember
ah, found it. Installed using pkg install udpbroadcastrelay
yeah, that's what I did too.
what's your output of pkg info udpbroadcastrelay
@sand agate posted a code wall, it is moved here --> https://hastebin.com/idupejokov
thanks. Mine is the exact same except for freebsd version 1203000
@clear ferry rate my ZFS setup
a single 1TB 2,5" HDD, with 1 Reallocated_Sector_Ct error, on a server without ECC Ram

I told you the thumbs were useful
Looks like I need a porcupine too
Ffs
hi together. Maybe somebody has an idea to a Github problem i have. If i run python python setup.py --version local it has the correct output. In my case "1.0.7.post0.dev32". But if i run that in Github Actions it always returns "0.post0.dev1". Here is the action log: https://github.com/hahn-th/homematicip-rest-api/actions/runs/2859133793
Btw: i am using versioneer and setuptools
@finite atlas while it's on topic, this might interest you https://github.com/home-assistant/core/compare/dev...Ongy:core:MediaPlayerEntitit-for-Jellyfin (still WiP)
no clue what that is
Upgrade to the Jellyfin<>HA Integration. That allows to react to player state and control the player sessions from HA if needed
jokes on you, i dont run home assistant currently
Me neither, do you like my new Homey Pro?
what is this atrocity?
High-performance computing of course
It looks like an RGB hamburger
You guys just stuck in HA land, come to the homey side with RGB for everyone!
RGB and what looks like miner cards
🤢
Finally, my little contribution to HA Ecosystem 🙂 https://github.com/GamerClassN7/HA_Desktop_Companion/releases/tag/0.0.1-alfa It is just small think but i am so happy achieving this goal of mine 🙂 Feel Free to give me any feedback 🙂
Known Issues:
If you want to exit app you need to kill it by TaskManager otherwise it will continue to run in background
Full Changelog: https://github.com/GamerClassN7/HA_Desktop_Companion/commits...
Imma put RGB fans on my rpi that runs my home assistant
You already got your first PR
Thank you 🙂 i am not a native speaker, so I try my best with README but , but nobody is perfect i guess 😄 Thank you once more for corrections 🙂
Well i just accidentally killed the Jenkins master for my team, killing all deployments for the next little while, i guess it's time for lunch, on the good side i did find an exploit that the Jenkins team should block permissions for.
Poor Jenkins
Gotta do something with two sleeping kids in the car
drive?
@clear ferry Nice bio
unbound circumference
It's the best I can do without being a pretentious fuck
I have driven probably 10-12k extra kilometres per year with sleeping kids already
I meant, instead of doing weird PRs you might concentrate
Friend got offered a 3 year contract now, fixed price, also in SE3
I have 54 öre fixed price
They were offered it at....
|| 343 öre ||
LÅL
Meanwhile my friend up north is currently paying 0.1 øre flexible
I couldn't have picked a better time to sort
There is no alternative, I need solar panels before my contract goes out
Thankfully I'm in a house with 3x normal income
Considering it
Pellets have gone up 500 sek per pallet
And set to go up more too
I am just glad that the mortgage is so low
I heard my in-laws were offered like 250 öre/kWh fixed rate in SE1 recently.
I'm sticking to my 35 in SE4.
Though I think that runs out soon-ish.
I produce all the power i need with solar now. no more electricity bills
power companies pay me now!
Don't taunt them
For SE1 that is robbery
Any details?
I am thinking I would need batteries for at least a week to go off grid
Thanks to Swedish winter where we don't see the big lightbulb for days
I know. It's insane!
I'm not off grid. I feed power back to the grid with daylight and can still consume some grid power if needed
It's a industrial setup in combination with certain contracts. the solar field is about a kilometer away from my home and the power still uses the grid to get back to me
so you still get an outage when power's out in your area?
yup. will need a separate storage for that
Aha, fair enough
I feel like if the price triples, I need to generate my own power to cover the extra cost, if that makes sense
But at some point it becomes uneconomical
is also waiting for the new car
I'm happy that I bought my car back in 2018 and didn't go for a lease. Choosing when to sell/buy feels better than being forced when the lease expires
Mmm, or just decide you want to keep it forever
I considered leasing
But with two kids
That would be an economic failure
Rather save $50k buying a 3 year old car
how do I save 50k on a car, when my car isn't even worth that much 😄
In socialist Norway, car company pays you!
It's $125k new
I paid $71k

My used Leaf has actually increased in value since I bought it
Roughly $3k
for the XC90?
Yes
My car has cost roughly 2k€ 🤷🏼♂️
is it as nice as the XC90?
Even nicer
nice!
maybe 2 of them do

nah, it's one of those with 3 seats front row, 3 seats back row
I do not need seven seats not even more than one
Should have taken a picture for Sodoma
Foreveralone.jpeg
Does it at least have 408bhp then?
Do not need that, too
that's not a need. that's a want
in that regard, I prefer the 400HP BEV XC40 though
Does it at least have hybrid drive then @shadow prawn
No but an oldtimer license plate
No 700l luggage room without folding down seats either?
does the XC90 come with the children included?
Fortunately not
If there was one with otters, porcupines and raccoons included I would be all over it
should I ask our dealer if he can get you a raccoon volvo?
I'm still waiting for the Mr. Fusion version that runs on trash and discarded doormats
could always try and get your hands on one of these https://youtu.be/TLl9LS3KO5U
[take a look at the comments!]
This is the promo video for Renault Racoon, one of the first (maybe the first) where the car is depicted purely from CGI 3D renders , overlayed on real footage. Considering the low resolution of TV sets of this era, one could have been easily fooled of seeing the real car.
Nice sudoku yesterday https://app.crackingthecryptic.com/sudoku/7L6tHTrdBq
An easy one
only in norway would you see a guy pull up in a modern ev then use a primitive bow and arrow to mass murder people
Yes, people with mental health issues can't buy firearms here thankfully
New is less than 20 years old for me.
Yay my car is not new to you 😄
Show me your rig
One of my best is Renault scenic I bought it with totally shot engine and i rebuilt it with junkyard parts found on the floor of my workshop.
not even for free
Parts off the floor sounds like regular french car quality though
My own car is a 99 V70 that has gone 292k km.
I have a works Octavia that we have as a company car, I pay tax for the right to use it privately and pay for the fuel that I use doing that, but all repairs etc are covered by the company. About the cheapest car you can possibly own.
There is no way I would have a new car otherwise.
The saga is this, I ordered in April 21, Skoda (and VW and Audi and Seat) had issues with software and all their platforms were effected. My work decided to not take in more cars till they were fixed, so they sat on the order until September 21. When the order finally went through it was delayed from "you will have it by Christmas" (2021) to it not have started being built yet, so probably 0 chance of it being in 2022 either now.
The part that sucks most is that it is a hybrid and I need a charging point. We buy them ourselves, and get back 3kr (sek) per kWh the car charges for, until the government change the tax rules, but I don't want to be out 20k sek for a charger point I can't use. So I have to time the order and installation of that around a car that I don't know if or when it comes haha
Money back for charging
That's a great idea
I get 3.5nok paid per kilometer driven in any car
Good money with EV
Costs me 180 nok to charge the leaf at 3nok per kWh, and with 400km range that means 1200 back
so you'd make money if you just have someone drive around the roundabout?
Work uses to give away the charging point, it was okay. Now that is not allowed. So basically they will pay for it eventually, instead. All dependant on when the government decides to stop it
I am worried it will be soon as they are threatening electric shortages
That is the stupid part
For me to get the 3 kr, the charger has to report the usage
But there is no way of telling what I was charging, so theoreticqlly you could charge all your neighbours cars on rotation, and then they would have to prove you are not being honest
But we have to have their charging point, we are not allowed to tell them how much we have charged for
Which seems silly, as it is very easy to check
Well
With tibber you can
I can see how much my Volvo has charged
If the car integrates into tibber, it will track usage per car
Unfortunately the leaf does not, so that comes as a seperate charged total number, with no ties to car
Which is easy with two cars, with three where two aren't integrated, that would be impossible
Easee and one more is good
Will end up being the double outlet chargeamps with a load balancer
The easee seems to be most peoples favorite
Thr garo is also good, apart from the particular model not allowing the app to work/ network connection, it is 4G only
I have easee, it's great
I wanted a garo to pull data from the load balancer for house load and such
Supports NFC too if you want to unlock via tap
But alas, they make you pay top dollar and the app doesn't even work
Will be getting one of those
What, you only have single phase? What kind of peasants electrical connection is that?!
Or your easee is only single phase?
The sucky part with that charger though is no attached cables, will need 2 eventually.
Going to run on 3 phase 16A for 11kW
But the octavia hybrid is only charging from a single phase
My peasant house is from 84
So it takes like 3 hours 30 mins
3p was the norm from 91
Aha
Except in the West, there it was from the 70s I think
I mean, it doesn't make any difference, for those peasant servers you run
Real servers run 400V 3 phase
Didn't your have 63A though? Main fuse
I went up to 20A for more headroom. The water heater is 3 phase, like 3kW
You mean 48v dc
Shiiiiiiiit
If there was a british server brand, it would be like that
G'Day @junior forge can i help in any way..?
?
with discord or ha... have some programming skills and love helping ppl solve issues...
well, I would say, go to the issue tracker and solve something 😄
on github i presume..?

How do I add my **rgb merkury lightbulbs **to home assistant the lights use an app called geeni?
Probably you don't, perhaps via tuya
Ima try hold on
Tuya smart?
Kk I’m installing it
Yes, all of Home Assistant is open source an managed on GitHub
Thx man/ woman

How do I add third party integrations to home assistant?
You might want to check out: https://hacs.xyz
I need a raccoon, but I live in Sweden, can you help with that at all?
@clear ferry Apps in norwegian? PUKE!
I used to be like you, now I am multilingual
But I'm reflashing my phone anyway, will probably revert to English
you mean british.. colour
Yes, proper English
Brand is not important for me, the price is. I bought it for 1,8K pln, repaired for 1,5 , now is worth about 6-6,5K. I got to ride it an half of year, otherwise i will pay tax . Then i will sell it.
but it's fine

Never thought making dashboards would be this hard. 😩
Just don't make them
let others figure it out and just stick with their design
it's your shitty infrastructure. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/8Skm4X3WFMM/maxresdefault.jpg
you make californians feel better so there is that..
What the hell was pulling so much?! 10kW in an hour is impressive
car charging
I guess that is the only explination
I agree 💯had some spare time so just wanted to try it out. Now I know why I never made a dashboard 🤣 damn too many entities
Although, mushroom template card makes me wanna
....... 😆
Where do you buy your bacon? 10kw bacon 🤔
@clear ferry you'll love to hear, that my linux iso's i stored on the HDD are starting to show defects
seems like i gotta swap it out
What does the master suggest for cheap mass storage?
AliExpress sells 4TB SSD for dirt cheap! 😆
30TB for 26,80€, what a deal!
I used a defective 1tb 2,5" hdd to try out zfs and mass storage of .iso's.
I have them all on my Pc, so idc about the drive being too defective.
yeah no shit sherlock
i've been thinking about 2tb consoomer ssd's. because are just fine for mass file storage and they pretty much have just a TBW "limit" and not a hour spin time limit
assuming it wasn't thrown about and none of the seals were ever broken. it falls down to the lifespan of the neodymium magnets inside which is around 100 years.
it will rust at some point, so i assume roughly 10-20 years
That stone is nothing but an attack surface...
Rust? What is that?
But the storage is on ferric oxide, i.e. rust. So you are saying we get more storage for free as the drive gets older?
yes!
Dryer, washer, washing machine, water heater and car charger would be my guess
Buy used sas hdds
why sas?
my mainboard only has 5x sata connectors
and those drive seem more expensive, need an extra controller and have high runtime cost with our electricity prices
Sas drives are cheap, can get 10TB drives used for $90 each, and they have longer life
Sas controller is $30
i rarely find any 10tb sas drive and they are often >150€
good joke
90€ + 70€ shipping from us
Well, for one yes, but if you order more the shipping is the same usually
Just be aware that 4kn requires newer sas controllers
If they can be had for cheap, yes
What were you doing the rest of the day then, haha!
I currently run a 8 drive raidz1 with SSDs
cries in family of four
i'm trying to shoot for <100€ for used 2tb samsung ssd's
just spammed everyone on the used market
just one is good enough for now, as its gonna be just for file storage
do you have any other brands/models for ssd's you can recommend ?
Used 1.92TBs are $150 it seems
model?
Found someone, who is willing to sell me is barely used 2tb MX500 ssd for 100€
no need for raid with that one
Do you have your own washer, dishwasher and electric car?
YES
Some new sensors for my Desktop Companion APP 🙂
time and memory is formatted by HASS i am just sending it in basic Units as specified in docs 🙂 but i will try to look into it 🙂
You might be able to click on it and change unit
Or make a new sensor that displays proper units
fookin microsoft
that cpu is pretty toasty for just running HA
why not?
Look at the OS
oh i see
Basically the same model of laptop as my work laptop lol
That is disadvantage of slim laptops
EZ-Hook
I approve of this name
Let me introduce you to my HP Zbook Firefly G8
On the search for a new laptop anyway, but does it run linux fedora?
I too sometimes have poopoos when I run
...and we have hit bottom. Only way to go is up now!
Yes, time for @fathom sparrow to move up from haos
supervised 😉 I'm that special. Ask @clever mortar
Disgusting
Everytime I see that name I imagine Linus Torvalds doing a Youtube channel
it would be brutal

Bit at a loss here with pfSense...
Trying to set up AdGuardHome as the only allowed DNS server on my network, redirecting all other external DNS requests to 10.0.0.15, however using the following rule results in the DNS resolution ending up as the IP of the AdGuardHome server... so going to xyz(.)com loads the Dashboard instead of requesting DNS from ADH instead...
Well, you are redirecting all traffic
Not just dns
Or wait
What are you doing
That's a weird way of doing it
Should just be
Interface: LAN
Protocol: TCP/UDP
Destination: Invert Match checked, LAN Address
Destination Port Range: DNS (53)
Redirect Target IP: 10.0.0.15
Redirect Target Port: DNS (53)
Description: Redirect DNS
NAT Reflection: Disable
ya'll notice that fedex, ups, dsl, and amazon drivers are all running now when they drop off packages or is it just me
I do notice that when my motion sensor indicates activity at the front door from a package being delivered, the dude is long gone by the time I get there
or punished for lack thereof
I have cameras, that's how I see that they are running
The only time anything is delivered to my door is when it is too large for the mailbox, which is at most twice a month
after reviewing footage from a delivery from yesterday, the woman was quite leisurely actually, chatting on the phone about some medical issues
man, I'm getting all sorts of visits today
I feel bad for them when they park on the street because my driveway is ~200ft long, and then my front door is another 50ft away. They often just give up and leave it on the driveway somewhere
meter reader
Y'all read your meters ?
well, we do have Amazon
even though my meter can be read from the street, they still walk up

how else does your electric company know how much you've used?
yeah, but they have to drive past the house
No
But why "Invert, LAN Address"? Everything that doesn't come from LAN should be redirected to 10.0.0.15 or am I understanding that wrong?
Destination,not source
What is behind that port alias?
53 and 853
Have you tried just port 53…
I do single port
That works fine
I don't bother catching other ones, as they are very unlikely
I just noticed I was an idiot and had Port 80 in that Alias for whatever reason...
Swear I put 53 in there tho 🙃
They started doing two way meter communication here in 1999, was done country wide in 2017
You might want to consider moving to opnsense thought

Hm...
I know pfSense and their devs are... let's say "not quite the nicest folk out there", but it still seems to run faster on my small firewall box and can handle almost the full Gigabit up and down
That said tho, not even sure how much work moving over would be
There is very small differences in the syntax between the two, I did my migration by spinning up an opnsense VM, configuring everything across
Then exporting and restoring
1h work, 15m downtime
How did you spin up a VM and configuring everything there when the network interfaces are entirely different afterwards?
Hm..
I know I've done some file editing to get the interfaces as fast as they are right now, not entirely sure what I did there tho cause that was so long ago now
I have not done a single line of tuning in my life with *sense
Always had line speed
We had FTTH since 2005
Gigabit up/down?
Had 10/10 in 2005, 50/50 in 2008, 100/100 in 2011, 300/300 in 2015, 600/600 in 2020, 350/350 today
The 10/50 was routed on a dual pentium 3 from 2000
The 100 was routed on a dual Xeon from 2005
The 300 was routed on dual Xeon from 2005
tfw I was 5 in 2000, but I'd have loved to be born earlier to actually experience the "earlier" days too 🥲
The 600 was routed on a j1900 fanless box
We had internet at home since 1991, albeit was dialup at first, didn't get always on dialup until 1996 and docsis in 1998
DSL in 2000
How much did you pay for those over the years tho :)
Not a lot
Installation was $300 for the ftth in 2005
Think it was $50 a month
Was between 50-100 over the years per month
I'd call 50 a month rather much actually
It is nothing tbh
I currently pay $90 for 350/350
Swedes pay a lot less
Norwegian internet has always been mid priced
I'm paying 80€ for gigabit up/down without any major dropouts so far yet (except when some idiot took an excavator to the fiber line lol)
I saw you could get 10Gbit for $100 or so a month in Switzerland
But, what did you pay for ftth in 2005? ;-)
how the f....
Swedes got 1/1 in 2003 if I remember correctly
80€ is already considered a damn good price for my connection, was even 100€ a month but since I know my provider personally, well lol
Pretty cheap too
Not even sure when we got our first connection here
€30 in Sweden for 1/1 now
Think I can get it for €120 with my current provider, €50 with the cheapest
To get back to earlier, I barely scratch 870MBit/s down and roughly 920MBit/s up with my current box, and that's already with some config file modifications that enable some Intel specific things. Not entirely sure anymore what that was.
But I do get the full Gigabit up/down when directly connecting a PC and configuring the provider VLAN and everything
So it's not a connection limitation, it's really just my box coming to its limits :) And CPU is at 100%
I was routing gigabit between 7 internal networks on my j1900
Never had it upstream
But I never had issues with 600/600 plus all my internal networks
And that box had realtek nics
Klassiche waschenbär
I see, you are trying your best.
alright girls and boys, office cleaning is done.
organized cable box weighs in at about 30 Kilos I'd say

Anyone here familiar with Ansible?
In home assistant template editor this Jinja template works. Ansible uses Jinja and this doesn't work lol. I'm attempting to print each item from a list on separate lines.
{% set test = [1,2,3] %}
{% for item in test %}
{{ item ~ '\n' | trim }}
{% endfor %}
it depends on what "this doesn't work" means, but I suspect that you're trimming the '\n'
I thought so too and took it out but the result is the same as without.
Doesn't work means this
1\\n 2\\n 3\\n 4\\n \n
We were on our way to raid a doormat factory, upping the game
The car you will never get @last cedar ?
Exactly
Al Bino, from north Cheshire
No, empirical evidence from the internet
That is the actual Chesire cat
Which you can clearly see is a cat, by the hands
Haha
This is de way
No way I would never use duct tape on the cpu fan
Use a full send on the ugga dugga instead

how can a device connected to a switch reply faster to pings than the switch itself?
by more than a whole ms
Because the switch has a tiny and/or overloaded CPU?
thats the only reason I believe but there are only 3 ports out of 8 in use and merely no traffic
Still, it's job is to route pings to other devices and do that fast. Responding to its own pings is a secondary thing to be handled when there's downtime.
I think it makes sense.
It's probably not even the same processor responding to ping as handling switching along cached routes.
ye the ping jumps several more layers than switching the packets to other ports, true
just weird to see
Did you say unifi?
Also traffic might not flow the way you think
no unifi around here
and I know that the traffic goes to the switch and then to the connected device. what path else is there?
@clear ferry your electric bills?
Context missing, loop aborted
@clear ferrydidn't know you were part of NorwegianPaws
the ironic part is you almost can't blame people for wanting to dress up in fur in Furway lol
gotta provide some warmth
never knew it was the furcaptial of the world tho
weird and unseemly things happen when you're stuck inside in the dark for months at a time
Lots of babies born in the fall that is for sure
Finally my app have support for system notifications and configuration of sensors with yaml file 😄 nice progress today 🙂 any suggestion what i should implement next ?
I suggest you don't spam the channel with images
Sorry
Why don't you start a thread on the forum about it?
You can get feature requests and feedback there, and it won't vanish from view here
already started bud I am more use to using discord than forums 🙂
Wtf is that emoji abomination

I'll bet geek kid will grow up to earn more money 🙂

It helps that I remember the Seinfeld episode and I know what they're actually talking about
Hey, I posted that two days ago @static schooner
You are so late
Oh no it was yesterday
First time for everything huh? 😂
Speaking of CI/CD, my company pays about 1 million a year for it
Probably gonna keep Disney+ for now since I'm grandfathered in with $65 a year
But netflix with its $240 a year is gonna be axed
I can upgrade my storage instead
@last cedar 355NOK so far today in power
240 a year? wtf lol
$20 a month for premium
4k, up to 4 users
The price has gone substantially up, when I signed up for Netflix it was $7 a month for standard
Now it is almost 16
And back then the dollar was half of what it is now
don't you torrent everything as is tho?
same thing
It is not
What the actual frank
Man bringe mir eine Bratwurst und ein Bier.
why does there have to be so many type of pcie connections
I get full size and mini but all the various diffrent key shit is so annoying
wdym?
along with all the various sizes and it's own headaches when dealing with tight spaces
Y'all and your children slots
I was watching a video with John carmack
And i went like, damn he looks good for 65
And... Then I see he is just 52
Fuck
I've been following Johns stuff since 1992, I seriously thought he was older
pretty sure it was all made up by norwegians living next to each other but considering they never communicate they sure as hell wouldn't work together to just have one type
That just sounds like capitalism
norwegeism you say
They won't force people to swap hardware if they don't swap the ports all the time
Sometimes I'm pretty sure speaker designs are driven by design instead of sound quality for the higher end stuff
Excuse me
Those are Martin Logans right?
Were they the electrostatic tweakers????
But like, yeah, I kinda agree
But they do also sound good
Seems like magic
That looks like it's out of Dr. Seuss
Martin Logan vantage @last cedar
I thought they were Martin Logans
Have seen them before
I just got some "cheap ones" when I did my set at home
3.0 system
Went with XTZ speakers, Swedish designed, they used parts you would find on higher end speakers without the middle man. Got a great deal on them, very happy
Only 85k used, bargain
Oh I like that fireplace
dunno about norway but here doing that would be like shooting yourself in the foot if you ever decided to sell
Wow are you watching live TV?
I had to listen to free to air tv while waiting at the doctors surgery the other day. I nearly slit my wrists. EDIT: to be clear that was not why I was at the Dr. The TV was driving me mad.
Yes, house renovation, the greatest flaw a home owner can do
In the morning before everyone wakes up I watch the news usually
changing something doesn't automatically mean improvement
maybe in mudsville it does
anything has to be better than thatch right
Sorry, can't take interior advice from the land of wall to wall carpets
That shit is depressing though
Pretend it doesn't happen and just watch raccoon tv
Eh, Norwegian news is fine, news from Sweden and Murica is just
Russia are using a nuclear powerstation as colateral, and no one can afford to survive the winter
Actually
I'm just waiting for the second recession
oh?
So I can say no to a decrease in pay once more
Please don't
Oh, I forgot
China are looking pretty threatening towards Taiwan too
So soon there will be no chips

Even more fine
china is circling the toilet on it's own
we're doing a lot better than most
