my newer ones arent that bad if you consider the fact that this was my first attempt
the tests came clear
self taught and a load of practice, i've been doing it for probably 3 years now, and have learned that no one will be good at animating for their first time, it will take some time just practice with different assets, models & environments until something comes out well, if it doesn't come out well scrap it and move on to the next, workflow also plays a large part in it, blocking out and getting timings right is key to having a clean animation. I'm still practicing on the timing part.

while loops can be pretty imperformant, but if it's in a pretty small capacity it's fine, just remember to have a way to break off the loops, and never put a while loop in a function that repeats
while true do is for infinite loops as far as i remember
It was more likely 1080 or 2k resolution, as sfm can only take 4k resolution
When doing that make sure to add a wait() or else it'll crash and or cause an exhaustion time

Yeah industry standard for a lot of games of it's stature is 2k res for textures, sometimes 4k for things that will be up close to the camera
You can use loops in a repeating function, if you do something like this:

you can also use mesh machine, it lets you do stuff like edge offset which destroys faces and edges around an edge to allow you to bevel without overlapping geometry

My uvs and settings are fine, blender bake times and capabilities is whats mid
blender is everything but a texture baking software and it shows, bakes take forever to setup and take even longer to render, results end up coming out looking like poo

no, hard surface is not that complicated, you just need practice and knowledge of the tools
For example, I discovered the possibility of complex hard surface modeling, something a blender cannot do
if you have problems with polygonal modeling, you can also try plasticity, and then just do retopology if necessary

the most difficult thing is how you will connect the barrel to the gun itself

remove the barrel and add a cylinder with a low number of ribs, there should be an even number of them
always use an even number of everything in a subdivision grid
otherwise it won’t be possible to combine correctly with good shading
show how it is connected only to the mesh, on a solid
basically the cylinder structure is separate

When it first came out it was pretty lack luster tbh, about the same as pd3 was, but times have changed and people wanted a complete copy paste of pd2 with unreal engine and some new heists

A 939 model had its spines as an entirely separate model for some reason
sfm is almost 10 yers old with no updates, but not sure how blender could magically improve textures, unless there is an importing issue for sfm
Only fixed models i have seen are black mesa models
I used SFM for a good bit but moved on to Blender after a while
It took a few tries for me to not just give up on Blender and go back because Blender's UI is very intimidating
I also barley use any of it which helps
took me like 30 hours to get use to everything lol, new ui is very scare
Took me 60 hours on sfm realize how tf u turn on volumetric light lmao

every second frame or so
depending on framerate
I placed a new key frame every 2 frames, sometimes for 4 6 or even 8 if I want emphasis on a pose
Then I set the key frames to stepped tangents which gives it that choppy feel
(I animated at 30 fps btw)
It's also good to have more impact frames in the animation as a way to emphasize an action, rather than to animate it normally

try to imitate it yourself, kind of put yourself in 049's place and try to recreate the shake with your own hands and try to recreate it into an animation. I sometimes do it with my viewmodel animations where i'll use some of my airsoft guns as reference.
Everytime i place someone in position, i try them myself for it to look more anatomical accurate but fuck sake from what i made fear effect looks like he's having some seizure
