so I think in general my philosophy with UI is that it should be: you can get a good idea of what's going on by looking around early on, but over time it becomes muscle memory and such. so with the OW example, the art is pretty as hell, nobody is denying that, but you don't exactly think about it unless the game actually demands such. it's achieved that goal. so while form is a bonus, function/accessibility are the main focus before anything else.
