Assassination Classroom.
I might need to do some slight overclocking to get it to work with fullscreen.
At least I think that's how it works.
built in ad blocker works on Crunchyroll! Ad free anime! And on a legal source! Awesome!
I will now proceed to have an all night marathon of Assassination Classroom.
Just because the Pi can do it.
@dusty citrus that's an amazing bit of knowledge to have! Thanks for sharing it
There's also a guide to get the native Netflix app working on the Pi. I guess there's problems using in the browser, so someone got it working an alternative way. I'll see if I can find the guide
Here's the link: https://youtu.be/gAL3v5uNH2E
I'm going to show you how to run Netflix natively on a Raspberry Pi 3. No tricks, no streaming from a PC, no x86 emulation. Pure native Netflix on the Raspbe...
@thin rose @spare ether did you get splatoon 2 yet?
@stuck moth nope, I should check it out though
@stuck moth Oh!
its a shooter so their are lots of guns and such
but they shoot ink
(which could be wild if you actually shot a liquid)
there is also an ink backpack I think
oh will have to check it out
we should friend each other too
totally ! will go ahead and finally update the firmware ๐

@polar wraith the quality of that xaomi camera seems really good
Although an ergonomics expert is going to be on to you about the lean over to the laptop ๐
@polar wraith which xiaomi you are using?
Experimenting with a Xaiomi 360 degree camera in timelapse mode. This is the raw file rather than one exported as a 360 degree video.
He mentions xaiomi 360 in the description
@hollow oasis It's the Miaji
Miaji?
Oh Mijia!
Oh my it is pretty!
I can see lots of uses for this
You can go on virtual hikes
Yup, sorry, I misplaced the "a" ๐
Xiaomi has some really nice devices
It's quite compact, too. About half the size of an iPhone 7 plus.
Thicker, but still pretty flat.
How would you hold it?
I guess it's gotta be a helmet or something
So it can see both sides
Sorry if you are walking I mean
It comes with a small tripod so you can set it on a desk, for example. I'm also experimenting with a selfie stick for walking around.
I'm kinda wondering what my next purchase will be for making videos
I was thinking about getting a good Dslr
But when I see some of the videos people make with higher end phones I'm kind of wondering should I go that route
As I would also gain a nice phone!
I got a NIkon D3300 for astrophotography and have used it to make videos. It's acceptable, though I need about a 17mm lens for it.
Phones actually work pretty well.
That is true...
I just have a DSLR for astrophotography anyway... I'm not sure I'd buy one just for video.
One of my astrophotography shots.
Any recommendations for cheap rework stations?
Aw wow!
That's beautiful! I'd use it for a background
I have. I also printed it on 8x10 metallic paper, which enhances the contrast even farther.
๐
Nope
Or at least not US based is what I really mean
Ah OK, I was just going to mention that most of the solder station stuff on adafruit is probably only 110v tolerant
Or at least worth double checking
Oh yeah. I busted a lamp from the US that I brough to Asia.
Yeah, it wasn't marked. Was a pretty nice soldering lamp too
Oh well. Live and learn I guess!
I don't have a hot air station, would kind of like one but I can't justify it!
You can make really tiny things. It does open up a lot of possibilities!
Of course you can watch the pro at work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5apAOI7j4hE
@adafruit SMT soldering circuit playground 12/17/2015
I bought a few sop8 to dip8 adapters
Yeah I've never done any board design for either
I think I'm going to chicken out on hand soldering SMDs. I'll just stencil my boards and use Microsoft's reflow ovens. ๐
It's on my todo list
She did it with an iron O.o
I know. I'm intimidated.
I'll be doing with an iron too
๐ flux is magic
I'll let you know how it goes once the slow boat from China delivers
See you in about 6 months ๐
Haha your adapters?
Both the ic and adapters
Hopefully it works out but I want to use the ic for polarity protection on my led light
Oh doesn't china do epacket to Ireland?
Where it will automatically switch the output voltage to the correct polarity regardless of input polarity
They do, but although super inconsistent the free delivery normally is about 3 weeks
@polar wraith I'm jealous. My closest thing to a reflow would probably be a refurbished toaster
And I've tonnes of projects that I should be working on in between ๐
Oh nice!
I do recommend epacket though, it is paid, but it does get to you before you forget what you got the component for
It's pretty early in Ireland isn't it?
Stuff like this
Woops! my bad.
I'm terrible at timezones
Me too
@hollow oasis I was going to go that route but then I found out there are reflow ovens I can use. Much better. ๐
Especially when @polar wraith is sending good morning to people before I even leave my house ๐
Hahahaha. I got to work at 0500 today.
@polar wraith I'd say! Wow that's early
Lots to do.
@polar wraith What do you do for a living?
Finished your hackathon?
I'm a senior security program manager at Microsoft, focused mostly on incident response and government operatios.
operations
@indigo jetty No, not by a long shot! We're going to try to have it up and working by the 15th so we can observe the eclipse on the 21st.
@polar wraith That's a lot of responsibility!
@hollow oasis Yes, but I like it. It's a great work environment!
@polar wraith Definitely! Either you love your work or are extremely disciplined to be at the office at 0500!
Just insomnia. ๐
Ah
But I do love my work. And I can tinker with Adafruit bits while I'm here, which is nice.
My work seem to like the idea of doing innovative stuff like hardware projects
Today's tinkering is trying to make an ArduiCam camera system work with CircuitPython on a Metro M0 Express.
That's great, @indigo jetty
But the hoops I'd need to jump through is crazy
Like no way am I getting a esp8266 on the internal network
Oh man that sounds like quite a challenge. I worked once with a OV2560 before, wasn't too fun
Really? They're pretty innocuous. Of course, it's better if you have a test or guest network.
@hollow oasis Yeah, I'm not really looking forward to it.
And even to get a standard Arduino so I could write to it from my work laptop I would need to submit a business justification form
So I could get my USB port open on my laptop
Oh goodness!
Sounds really locked down
It's understandable in some ways, given the nature of the business (financial services) they need to by hyper careful
Just to make sure we don't lose all your 401k ๐
Well, yes, I suppose that's true!
At the cost of sleep mostly ๐
One, I don't sleep much. Two, my family lives across the country. Three, I live next door to my workplace, so it's a six minute walk from door to door. Put that together and there's ample time for electronics projects!
It's my main hobby, I don't really "go out" (go to bars etc), I don't watch much tv or play too much games
I kind of live in the middle of no where so there is not much temptation in the way of events etc!
It's tough though, sometimes at the end of a long day the last thing you want to do is work on something
But I love the output from these physical projects
I'm a pretty determined person
I don't get as much done as I'd like but it's normally from a lack of trying!
Although I do watch Game of Thrones which I saw you are watching too @polar wraith
Season has been great so far
Yes, the ending of Sunday's episode was fantastic. Poor Jamie. Just when he's feeling smug....
Yeah
Hahah spoilers!
Same. I feel exahusted at the end of the day too
I am interested in getting to know more about the other engineers at Adafruit
Only a little tiny spoiler.... But sorry.
It's all good :)))
@hollow oasis I'm going to make a video interview of Scott, to talk about CircuitPython.
@polar wraith Yessss!
Scott is very active here (I think he lives here!) , the Ruiz brothers post pretty often too
Jp jumps on around the live streams I think
Yes, and PhilT and LadyAda are actually pretty frequent participants here, too.
I got the idea when I was looking at the old Gemma.
A engineer by the name of Frank was mentioned.
I'd love to hear him talk about how he developed the bootloader
"WITH ALFREDO SAUCE!" = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEmSM0tHnzU
Please vote for me in the Boca Bearings Innovation Contest, here: http://www.bocabearings.com/innovation-contest/ContestantDetails.aspx?ProjectID=221 Thanks ...
Awww, man. That unfortunate feeling when you're at work and need a breadboard because you have two boards which both need 3.3v....
off-topic: if anyone here is planning on going to new york makerfaire, shoot me a dm so we can say hi ๐
@white elbow i wonder which boards those are ๐
@viral spruce RCWL0516 radar sensor and ArduCam OV5620 (?) SPI board.
OH, i was totally off
@polar wraith is it like the cmucam (http://www.cmucam.org/) at all?
Yes similar
And Naiomi is cracking me up tonight....
I'm trying to set up the camera and radar on the Metro M0 Express running circuitpython so it will take a picture when the sensor detects motion. I have the radar library written and working, I just need to get the camera connected and the drivers written.
Nope, haven't gotten that far!
๐
A friend of mine got this for me for my birthday, a lillypad, leds and some conductive thread. Guess I better learn how to sew!
@indigo jetty If only there was a website for that ๐
Ah no I looked at the adafruit videos about it before actually with Becky

Aw @indigo jetty your friends understand you
@hollow oasis yeah! I've been trying to get some of them into too, I have showed them some simple stuff
This friend is also helping with the webcontrol part of my led matrix
import antigravity?
My rotary encoders came today so I might get to put back in the palette changing stuff from @lost condor sousaphone code
I dunno if I'll get it done this evening though, I'm on putting baby to bed duty for the next couple of weeks
Be she doesn't like me doing that so much so it's an epic battle
@indigo jetty maybe she'll pick it up as a hobby eventually!
@indigo jetty then you guys could do show and tell togetha
That would be the dream ๐
shes sitting on my lap at the moment while I try add in the second encoder
shes not that happy about it ๐
has she met the circuitplayground plushies? https://www.adafruit.com/product/1022
this month @indigo jetty ?
we have emojis!!!! @here

Hurrah!

My somewhat obvious favorite:

I wish I did a better job of taking the palette stuff out of the sousaphone code ๐
We have working patterns, thanks @lost condor !
IBM Research scientists have achieved a new world record in tape storage โ their fifth since 2006. The new record of 201 Gb/in2 (gigabits per square inch) in...

remember to always dock your soldering iron!
@indigo jetty wooh cool! psychedelic
That is steller.
the patterns are all @lost condor , they look great
finally finished soldering it today
Awesome, man
Of course the emojis don't seem to work in the discord iOS app ๐ฉ
So @indigo jetty, what's the part you were having trouble with regarding palettes?
I just butchered your code is all
and I wasnt sure if I was better reverting back to yours or modifying mine
I should have just commented stuff out
My webcam is doing a not great job of picking it up
the matrix I mean
Some of the palletes dont seem to work with patterns (I think the ones with just colour names)
but the ones that do are amzing
I have the USA pin wheel on at the moment and I'm feeling very patriotic ๐
Haha
Yeah the color names are solid colors
They don't look like anything, they're there mainly for the "fade" pattern
If I want a solid color
ah cool
I got rif of the flickering too

thats quite a deciding factor lol

Pulled the trigger on the ts100 soldering iron this morning
May our houses hopefully not burn down ๐
I would be interested in hearing how you get on with it @hollow oasis
Did you know that Atmel had to use USART when referring to UART because UART was copyrighted?
@indigo jetty As do I haha. I'll definitely let you know!
The ts100 is heavily reviewed and recommended on YouTube
But as I mentioned before, I feel like I've been guerilla marketed cause all those people got them for free ๐
Ah, there was a worrying review on the rework when the guy pulled it open and I saw how empty it was on the inside. But hey, it had 800+ purchases so
๐
Hahaha oh well. I make do with what I have!
Although the difference between a old, bad iron and a new bad iron is quite stark
Old and bad really doesn't work
But I picked up a hakko red and it works just fine.
@indigo jetty ooh you gonna try the custom firmware for it? Was just watching a review of the features
Yeah!
I will forever have the New jingle stuck in my head.
I got the Gboard keyboard and the Google Now launcher. They are really nice.
Makes it feel like a version of Android newer then 4.4.
@indigo jetty https://pastebin.com/iqBMCFbu
I'm not exactly sure what I was doing wrong with my circle math before, but this one seems to be correct.
Just changed methods (atan2 vs atan) and it seems to be correct now.
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
Cool thanks @lost condor !
compiler wasnt in the mood for that method name @lost condor xD
Well, atan2 is the "common case" version of atan (finding the angle of an x and y pair)
Something was wrong with my math but I don't feel like figuring it out. ๐
@indigo jetty Now the circular patterns should be correct around the whole grid. Before they were actually just doing 0-180 repeated twice.
Thanks @lost condor ,i won't get to try it out this evening though
This is my life this evening, trying to tidy up my office
Unfortunately that's the clean side
colour calibration sheets/passports cost so much for whatever reason.. $60...
whoa 82 folks online
@indigo jetty Discs!!!! lots of it
Yeah, an ancient relic of the past!
Anyone want 200 blank dvd? ๐
Literally are probably worth more as Frisbees
My girlfriend when I checked discord earlier "you are addicted to what ever that is"
Probably not wrong
I don't know why I have so many blank dvds, I was into Wii nodding at one stage (never selling games or anything) I think I got them off a guy who was getting out of pirating dvds or something
I can't remember though!
haha cool @indigo jetty , I used to be really into ROM hacking ๐
My final year project in college was a robot controlled via a Nintendo ds, that was the only time I did any console development
Unless a ouya counts
What did you hack @abstract violet?
@indigo jetty Mostly GBA games, also did Nintendo DS stuff but more on homebrew apps and such..
Yeah, I've no idea what I used for mine
Found my report in my Gmail ๐
Apparently I used palib
For the ds homebrew
"If you're just getting started with NDS homebrew development then you should avoid PAlib, PAlib users and PAlib tutorials at all costs. They will give you bad advice and teach you programming methodologies which will hinder your progress and ensure that your projects are plagued with problems that will be nigh on impossible to fix."
haha, just shows how early Palib was
It's funny how much of what I did in that project was linked to what I do now (hobby)
But I completely forgot about it!
Nothing too interesting in it
I'd love to have one of those robots nowadays though!
I wonder if something similar can be achieved with a Nintendo Wii.
Or maybe the original Xbox.
why not ๐
I would love to see someone flying a drone with a Wiimote.
Or driving a little car with an Xbox controller.
you could prolly skip the console bit and interface the controller directly!
Sounds interesting.
the wiimote can act like a regular bluetooth device
Really?
So I can use Wii emulators with a real Wiimote?
I gotta get myself one of these arduinos! Or can the same thing be achieved with a Pi?
Awesome! So I already have everything I need.
thats for general stuff, but i think this is what you are thinkin: http://www.instructables.com/id/Wiimote-Controller-Configuration-for-Raspberry-Pi-/
Nintendo created the Nintendo Wii which uses Bluetooth to connect its wireless Wiimote controllers. The Raspberry Pi is a palm-sized computer that has been used for all sorts of applications and DIY projects. One of these projects is called RetroPie. It allows users to play classic games with the ability to connect a myriad of controllers. Packages to enable the Wiimote to connect to the Raspberry Pi via Bluetooth have been developed. I will assume that you have Raspbian already working on your Raspberry Pi.The purpose of this instructable is to guide you through the setup of the Nintendo Wiimote as a controller on your Raspberry Pi 2 or 3.A basic knowledge of the command line in Linux as well as Raspberry Pi features are required. I will give you all the commands you will need to perform in the Linux terminal.Time Commitment: This instructable will take 30 minutes to ...
Thank you. I'll be sure to check that out.
I like that it has a bunch of sensors and buttons and all that
The nunchuck speaks I2C as well afaik
@indigo jetty and the adafruit store stocks em i think!
yes. nunchuck is i2c.
Oooh
I never knew that
That means pro controller is too
Or not pro controller...whatever they called the wiimote attached controller.
That's weird, anyone know why the different colors of controller had different handshakes?
@lost condor probably revised over time, eg. Wiimote (OG) vs. Wiimote + WiiMotion Plus vs. Wiimote with built-in Wiimotion Plus
The ir camera in the Wiimote should be i2c as well
I harvested one, but for some reason I never did anything with it
@indigo jetty what would you do with it?
@indigo jetty also, "harvested" reminds me of Horizon Zero Dawn.. hunting bots for parts
My plan was to make a gimble that tracked you
If you were wearing an IR led
So maybe for recording something
Never got around to it anyways!
back to its project coffin i mean box
There is an issue that the camera will pickup the ir led though
Anyone feel free to steal the idea, it's unlikely I'll get around to it
Solution: Make the IR tracker part of your outfit. ๐
@indigo jetty could always track...with openCV!
OK, because I have been out of this loop for too long, and managed to recently acquire some hardware: What's the current best option for installing Actual Linux Packages on MacOS X?
Anyone where keep a meticulous list of what SMD parts they buy and how they keep track of them?
@bold turtle I think brew still is
Just thinking, that using a 555 circuit, and an ATTiny85, and a M0, for one off projects, it makes much more sense to go for the M0
Also interesting page: http://www.crossroadsfencing.com/ & http://crossroadsfencing.com/BobuinoRev17/index.html
It is a fencing and electronics site!
Ha, an interesting combination!
first time setting up a raspberry pi using diet pi instead of raspbian lite -- I can finally sleep
haha
@bold turtle You want Homebrew (https://brew.sh/). MacPorts is kinda depreciated at this point and a lot of people switched to Brew for their package manager ๐
@viral spruce @bold turtle I am a professional software developer, and I second Homebrew. You can also use it to install .dmg packages through homebrew casks.
And since homebrew is scriptable, you can write a single dev environment bootstrap script for a new Mac, and be pretty quickly up to speed on a new machine.
@bold turtle same here, I use Homebrew mainly. But I recall having to use MacPorts a couple of times when Homebrew didn't have what I needed.
@hollow oasis I use spreadsheets to track my stock
so homebrew beer or whine?
my stock of smd part
Adafruit gives me GAS.. gear acquisition syndrome
I feel like a Pokemon training -- catching em all
@abstract violet I actually maintain a wish list called "next order." It's sitting around 500 bucks right now....
@polar wraith waits for your unboxing videos hehe
LOL! Yeah, I'll have to make one. ๐
I might try so one for the ts100, I am a little worried about uploading a lot of different types of content than I usually do
are you going to look into the fimware stuff? may be worth a bit in the video
There is definitely plenty of YouTubers where I've been put off by a change of direction
I definitely will
no matter what you're making in electronics, you'll have to deal with a soldering iron
I think it fitz
Simeone geirtz (shitty robot queen) is a prime example
I want to eventually build something like a shadow box with a buncha feathers -- maybe make the mount be a PCB (with silkscreen to match) & make them all blink --
I still think she's funny, but I used to watch her for the shitty robots
And she the majority of her videos are not that anymore!
That sounds really cool
yeah sticking them to a plain board would be easy.. so have to make it complicated somewhat xD
but mainly i think they should at least blink or have some function, maybe a similar thing to what @stuck moth in a previous show and tell
@indigo jetty Have you had a chance to try that new config yet?
No I will get to first in the morning though
Family night tonight!
@abstract violet
Look familiar?
Haha, awesome. I'm working on checking in the code generation capabilities, and wanted to make sure the math is right.
It's beautiful so far, but I'm two minutes in
The dog is probably named after this guy
hmm check this out guys https://buildazure.com/2017/07/25/azure-iot-developer-kit-preview-started-shipping/
it looks like similar to microbit
Definitely does down there at that edge connector. I kinda dig the inlcuded oled tho.
@abstract violet it's a really beautiful film
There is a lot of Irish bits in it (phrases etc)
And the art style is very celtic
@nova raptor seems like adafruit edge connector what Ladyada designed for microbit work with it
@indigo jetty it made me want to visit that side of the world for sure, very charming atmosphere -- wouldnt mind living in a lighthouse 8)
@indigo jetty glad you enjoyed!
I dont think the internet would be very good @abstract violet!
@indigo jetty I remember life before the internet ๐ minecraft lifestyle
So what fun projects will everyone be working on this weekend?
@lost condor Which pattern would show it up best?
Probably will make a video on the BLE thing tomorrow morning
might try work on the Telegram learn guide Monday (public holiday)
I should also try squeeze some circuitry into the frame for the LED matrix
@abstract violet punch trees
how about you @polar wraith ?
Making the ArduCam SPI/I2C camera work with CircuitPython, writing a motor shield driver in CircuitPython, maybe a little PCB design, and building my Lego Saturn V (assuming it arrived today).
thinking to play with BLE so control drone from the custom app
That would be cool, @spice moss, but will it have the range you need?
it's small drone so testing it for future use cases
Nice!
i currently have one but if i can get it work from one then i can expand it
Gotta walk home from work. Should be back online in about 30 minutes.
i am making some research by this as planning drone mobile squad where is different feature set of drones
I'm writing a new CircuitPython pixel splitter/reorganizer...
@polar wraith i really need to get working on a guide for my echo wand telecom project. Also want to slim down a pi3 to fit in my sega joystick
That's cool, too, @hearty fiber
@dusty citrus I'm not following. What does it do with the splitter?
@indigo jetty It will show up best on the Spin pattern
Especially with the rainbow palette
@polar wraith So CPX gives you 10 pixels, 0-9... that wrap around the ring.
What if you wanted to treat that like 2 5 pixel rows, going up from the bottom (let's imagine a sound meter with stereo)
Yes, you could write all sort of code, to 'fix' the display... but if you just had 2 strands of 5 each, and both were facing in same direction.... this lets you have that.
you end up with 2 pixel objects, each with 0-4 addressing, and the 'real' #9 is now #0, #8 is #1, etc..
Make sense now?
I did it the 'easy' way, and realized that potentially there is a bug , because calling write() on one of them also calls it on the other...
in most cases, won't matter, write is autmatic. To fix it, I'll have to create independent buffers... which I likely will... because it would allow you to double set things, and flip between them.... essentially 'sharing' pixels...
I'm calling it the NeoPixelDistort class... because it slices, dices, let's you do anything you want...
You can't directly mix pixels from different strands but that's what TonyD's NeopixelChain class does... this works with it, it inspired me to write this one.
Using that and this, you could take a 2+ strands, combine them into one, and then slice out new strands from the chain...
Example, if you wrapped one long set around a sphere, you could normally only address it via some complex math to figure out which pixel to light up for a given location... With this, you could create strands that run longitudes (north/south), and it just works. Set 0 to be the north pole, and the end to the south pole, and points between, and you're all set, never have to do the math again.
To be clear, you can feed in any list of pixels, and it'll make a new strand of them.
It does seem more defined
@lost condor
my camera is terrible the blues look fine in person
also i pulled the signal wire to take the photo, i dont see any issues with the top left like I see in the picture
are you doing any gamma correction?
@indigo jetty Awesome, that's what it's supposed to look like.
@dusty citrus I think (but I'm not positive) the FastLED library allows you to arbitrarily split up your neopixels in the same way.
Looking at it, it looks like it expects the strips to be on different pins, though they can share the same buffer. However, I'm not sure it's really a problem if they are on the same pin. I'm going to do some tests
@lost condor Cool, I haven't played with fastled much, I actually started this coding session wanting to port FastLED effects, and ended up coding this custom thing, just because it seemed like fun to work on... Got it working and now I'm rewriting it to work with the most current neopixel.py, and I might even fold TonyD's pixelchain functionality (which also isn't up to current neopixel code) so it does everything. (I might not fold it, but will bring it up to new code level)
that would mean that you could have hardware physical pin(s) to write to, but might have a pile of virtual strands, which might span multiple physical strands, and really, any combo of pixels you can imagine. (I'm adding slice support, based on current pixel code, too, since it's pretty easy to support that...)
Ahhh, is this Python work? Sorry. ๐
Google Now launcher has OK Google on it, and it is very handy.
Started recording the ble scanner video, I'm talking with the video for the first time to hopefully speed up the time it takes to make the video, I think it's going OK, although I stood up to get the screen to focus and was further from the mic, hopefully I can fix the levels in software
@indigo jetty Awesome look forward to it!
I have that section synced up and edited
I need to go through the code and the hardware and also do an introduction and and outro
Thanks @hollow oasis, hopefully it's interesting
It is actually a neat project
It was one I wanted to make for years
Even before I was into arduinos etc
@dusty citrus Thank you! That makes a lot of sense now.
Finally have my office clean! nothing to stop the making now!
@indigo jetty What do you use for video editing?
Also, I love back to school season. graph paper composition books for 50 cents.
I use something called active presenter
It's almost like power point
It's not really a real video editor
For more informational videos or ones involving screen shares I recommend it
But nobody is making movies with this thing ๐
Ahhh, OK. Heh
Not published yet. I'm not too sure about parts of it.
There is a large volume change when I'm at my desk and when I'm at my computer. Any for some reason I have my eyes opened as wide as possible during on screen parts. Also, 20 mins..
@indigo jetty friendly advice: if you can, get a screencasting software so that you can zoom in on what you're talking about. Larger monitors create issues when recorded, can't really see 'em on a smaller one too well. Zooming in is the way to go instead of highlighting w/boxes
I'm partial to screenflow but camtasia (techsmith.com/video-editor.html) is similar on Windows.
alternatively you can zoom in on whatever editing software you use, it just felt a bit "far" to me. I liked the video a lot.
Thanks @viral spruce
Especially since if you got the code part you put up with at least half of it ๐
That's good advice though
If you have any more feedback I'd be delighted to hear, even if negative! I'm very happy to try improve whenever I can so certainly am not offended by negative feedback
I know it's not exactly citizen kane of YouTube videos ๐
throwing it out there, we'll see how it does
time to try player unknown's battlegrounds ๐
@indigo jetty @viral spruce Camtasia is really superb but is an investment. I tried a bunch of free and cheaper ones at work for Windows and there really was no comparison.
Nice @stuck moth !
Im playing at the moment too, but on the EU servers
Since the update on the Wednesday its a bit slow to connect
if you get the connecting screen with an empty loading bar for maybe 5 or 10 seconds click the reload icon up the top right
it will eventually timeout and prompt you to reconnect, but once it goes past the 5 or 10 seconds its not happening
@indigo jetty it crashed after my parachute deployed....
how do i force kill a windows app? end task in the task manager isn't working
@stuck moth think that parachute deploy automatic in certain height
@stuck moth are you already in the Processes tab in Task Manager? That should do it.
gah
I need atleast 512GB ssd as least of it seems in Desktop go fast
Then it is waiting on a kernel resource or something like that. Do you have a fancy graphics card? Maybe driver issue.
Someone suggests from CMD: taskkill /pid 1234 /f
I have seen the game framedrops in good gear
how do I find the pid?
Is there a Details tab in your task Manager? What version Windows? Right click on task and Properties?
@spice moss its more about what frames it renders
I am in Ubuntu right now, can't try.
ah I see
well the game need some optimizations to be done
@stuck moth From Processes tab, if you right-click on the task and click "Go to Details" it will select the matching process.
Though that still may not work to kill it.
(I booted up the laptop to look)
I see a reboot in your future.
it'll probably just crash again though. my compie is definitely under spec
the cpu is older than what they state and the gpu is at the minimum
You might try a downloaded GPU driver from the company (e.g. Nvidia site) to be absolutely up to date. But I have certainly just seen things freeze up under load. Ah well.
its only 8gb ram too ๐
with nvidia there geforce experience what helps with drivers thankfully
yeah, my gpu is amd
was it catalyst in amd what keeps radeon drivers up to date
yup yup
now I'm cpu shopping ๐
You must have been due an upgrade ๐
yeah, I think I bought it around 2012
yeah me too, but it was pretty decent at the time i5-2500k still doing ok
I'll keep chugging away with it till there is something I cant do with it
My CPU is a 1,000 core Azure cluster? ๐
Can it run games @polar wraith ๐
LOL nope.
I think i got mine in late 2011, it was a pretty good spec machine at the time but literally the only thing I've added to it since is a SSD
Has served me well
Still havent won a game of PUBG, got another second tonight
(2 seconds tonight)
Time for bed, thankfully a public holiday tomorrow
What video where you thinking of doing @polar wraith ?
Kind of a poll. A sitting in the pool and talking about the projects have on my todo list, and asking what people think I should do next.
I get very little responses to questions on my videos
Huh. Good info to have. I guess I'll skip it and just work on something. ๐
I'd say 80% of my comments are asking for help
The rest being "thanks" and then a few comments on my accent ๐
Yeah I see the same with other small channels too, it makes sense I suppose
Yeah, I can see that in retrospect.
I think at the level we are at i think making videos that you enjoy is the way to go. My one today, while i think overall its decent, and I'm pretty happy with it, it's not really the type of video that I would like to see. I'd prefer a more scripted and edited one
And kind of as a result I'm probably not as satisfied with it. Like my niche so far has been making 2 minute videos that share some useful information and this was the exact opposite nearly!
But the main reason I got into to YouTube is have a place to show off projects (which doesn't lend as well to the quick videos) so I'm a little in YouTube limbo at the moment!
Ime hoping to set up a stream in a few weeks. A friend of mine who is technical but has never done any Arduino is doing it with me, where he would start from scratch and I would explain it to him as we go along
That'll be cool!
Yeah and he has good internet too so I can actually stream ๐

I found out IDE SSDs are a thing that exists.
Mostly Mini IDE. I haven't seen a regular IDE SSD yet.
Good thing Mini IDE to regular IDE adapters exist.
this is pretty offtopic but can be used in background https://www.spotify.com/us/xbox/
It can do that on the PS4, so it might work on the Xbox One.
my first thought was "that's a heavy duty plug!!" before realizing it probably wasn't US ๐
Haha, it's an adapter but our plugs are a good bit "beefier" ok
It came with a EU plug
http://tomscott.com - http://twitter.com/tomscott - ALL THE ELECTRICS I USED WERE UNPLUGGED. DO NOT DO THIS. Yep, I'm going all patriotic again. And while I'...
The UK plug is actually really well designed
It's bulky but very safe
That's a surprisingly interesting video on it
I always found US plugs insane
๐
I'm not saying they're great
I'm looking at houses now and it's become "my thing" to check all the plugs to see if they're grounded or not
we looked at one which had been flipped but none of the outlets were grounded, except in the kitchen and bathrooms
There would have to be some really crazy wiring to see a house with out ground in UK or Ireland (we call it earth)
Like literally all our sockets have it
Looking forward to trying the iron out, although I don't think I currently have any outstanding soldering!
@indigo jetty Tom Scott is great! I love his videos!
Yeah he's very fun!
Would love to meet him (and Matt) sometime....
@indigo jetty My parents worked/lived in the middle east when I was younger and had our house in the philippines built with all UK-standard stuff, all our electrial plugs/outlets etc looked like that! -- was frustrated mostly on lack of adapters but yeah ๐
You can kind of stuff a EU plug in with a screw driver (don't do this)
I thought it was just UK and Ireland!
The screwdriver seems like a phenomenally bad idea. ๐
it's funny the screw driver just puts us on par with the US plug ๐
You put it into the ground/earth plug to expose the live and neutral (as per toms video)
Still, messing with mains (110 or 220) makes me jumpy.
My son was electrocuted with 220 in Iraq (he survived but was unhappy).
Funnily enough I worked with a electrician when I was younger and never got shocked
Turned on a faulty lamp and got one ๐
I normally leave it to the professionals now
Haha
I would do the odd bits with relays
I was thinking today that my dad's shop has good internet, so in a couple of weeks I'm going to try a stream
Cool! Be sure to post the link before you start!
Ah, Sonoffs! A la Andreas Spiess!
These are a device that have a relay and a esp8266 built in
I was thinking of maybe doing the stream on them
That would be cool! I haven't really looked at them much, but I've been meaning to look into them to see how they might be used.
yeah, im the same
I have them a while
I made this last year for my Christmas lights
It was controlled via Alexa
So I'm going to replace it with the sonoff
That's good! It would be interesting to get an overview of the Sonoff ecosystem and the different control capabilities it has... (FWIW)
yup thats the plan hopefully
so who's ready to start designing cosplay parts for the new Overwatch skins
still havent played since PUBG
@indigo jetty I can't play PUBG until I upgrade my gaming box
just saw that intel is announcing details of their next gen on the 21st so I think I'll wait until then at least
I'm very out of the PC component game but I hear a lot about AMD's Ryzen
But yeah probably worth waiting
yeah, I was too until PUBG crashed on me
now I'm realizing how large my back catelog on PC is ๐

The only other thing I would like to play at the moment is Doom
It looks great
and the soundtrack is amazing
I recorded a video od me using the TS100 for the first time, I'll probably upload it later if anyone wants to look at it, I wont be releasing the video unedited like that but if people are curious they are welcome to take a look
I want to try using the other tip that came with it and also take a look at the firmware stuff for @abstract violet ๐
First impressions are pretty good, im not really used to a conical tip anymore so I think i was making a bit of a mess of it
but it feels very premium
The laptop cable (basically) coming out of it may take some getting used to (just so its not in the way)
Might be one for adafruit to consider seeing as it is open source hardware
Maybe even a Adafruit branded one ๐
(although saying that i can't find all the stuff for it)

Fun stuff
Glasses cleaning cloth to clean it up first, I'd say.
I've had some disks with scratches and the like work fine after cleaning
Hell, I took a hobby knife and made four huge, deep scores on a disk once, to see if it'd still work.
Turns out, if you do inside to outside, it'll still work. It's the ones that go around with it that give problems.
Turns out the gamepad charger is also down. So I guess no Pkmin 3 regardless of how well I clean the disc.
Should have gotten Pikmin 2 for the Wii when that was still a thing sold at walmart.
How can I fix VGA on a computer not displaying anything? I wanted to install Dolphine on my PC to play Pikmin, but it won't show anything.
It just randomly started to not display anything.
I tried asking Google, but it was mostly just "Delete System32"
@runic elbow What do you mean, not displaying anything? IE, the computer itself doesn't show on that monitor at all?
Are you running a multi-monitor setup?
The monitor says "No input signal." This is a single monitor set up.
So, you start Dolphine and it does that? Or does the PC just display that all the time now?
It does this on boot up. I heard about Dolphine, and went to turn on my PC so I could install it. It just says there Isn't any input. I press he power button, no signal.
OK.
My first guess is to check the connections of the cable, both at the monitor and at the computer.
If it's been loosened, you'll get no input.
Both are connected. And srewed in.
Computer boots, right? Have you heard the boot beeps?
Let me check.
The disc drive flashed. And a few numbers on te faceplate turned on. No noises.
OK.
Not all computers beep on startup anymore.
My next thought is that the video card might be loose
But I'm not an expert, so this is where I just start guessing.
There is no video card. It is the VGA port directly on the board.
OK.
How old is the computer and monitor?
And... do you have a second monitor to try it on?
Te monitor, I'm not sure. But the mahine was made sometime after Windows Vista.
I tried a TV and a regular monitor.
TV has VGA input?
And still, no input from the computer?
Nope.
Alright. Do you have a different VGA cable to test?
I tried two.
OK. Hmm.
Sounds to me like there's an issue with the motherboard, but that's beyond my ability to remotely diagnose.
Do you have a video card you could put in the machine?
It doesn't necessarily have to be a good one - If you can put one in and test it and it works, then you can go about acquiring something that's not terrible
Well, sad to say, but I really don't know. I suspect something's wrong with the motherboard's integrated graphics, but I can't be certain.
I might have another machine to try.
I might not be allwed, though.
I was correct.
"Can I take apart your computer?" "What, are you crazy?"
It was more "You're not doing that right now"
We don't even use the machine I want to try.
My only option now is an old Windows XP machine.
With half a gig of RAM. And a 1.4 ggahertz CPU. So that one is off the table.
I usually don't keep my computers on the table.
I guess no Pikmin for me. Until I get either a new graphcs card. Or a new PC.
I hope the Pi can emulate the Gameube. If not, then I officially give up.
I also give up with touch screen keyboards.

RetroPi looks like it supports GameCube AND the original Wii
Awesome! Alrigt, time to grab some Pikmin roms! First, I nee to wait for Raspbian to boot.
And to smash the toch screen keyboard to pieces.
I found it easier to just grab a new SD card and the RetroPi pre-setup image.
I need Raspban to get the roms. Because my PCs VGA port died.
Right.
RetroPi makes the Pi appear on the network and you can just drop files into it from other devices.
But if you don't have a PC to work with that, it's not quite as convenient.
Nope.
Does the USB system on the Pi usually not work withUSB storage, or is either my Pi or my USB defective?
It detects it now, but I can't get the files.
Ok, now it works.
I... haven't fiddled nearly as much with my Pis as I wish.
Even though I have a B, 2, 3, Zero, Zero 1.3, and Zero W
touchscreen keyboards are just awful.
I am dangerously close to throwing my tablet across the room because of this keyboard.
Also, Raspbian apparently can't read Retropie folders.

Either that or it's corrupt.
I can access the System Volume Information.
Bu not the roms.
