I suppose that would be specific to each item and what permissions/license they use..
Like.. it might be CC; personal use, no commercial.. or maybe free for any uses.
I see, I didn't notice them untill now, it's written, thanks

In other news; My dad is bringing me some solder tomorrow, so I can finally get some of my projects done. 😄
I hope it's not leaded solder, but.. if it is, I'll use it anyway.
Personally, I prefer leaded solder, but make sure it's electronic solder, not plumbing solder.
He's used all kinds of solder, so he knows what I need. 🙂
I like leaded solder because of tin creep, price, and flow, I’ve never had a good experience with lead free, it always freezes all crusty and cloudy. Not to say that lead free doesn’t work, and I’ve heard great things, but I just haven’t had any luck personally
And my iron oxidizes faster when tinned with lead free
The biggest issue though is that the blends of lead free I can find in stores are always pretty far from eutectic, and have a gummy plastic phase
I personally use 99% tin solder that is like 0.7% copper or something like that. Works great, looks great, tip of the iron is pretty nice.
For solder paste I use low temp bismuth lead free
yeah, standard SAC305 works fine for me, just higher temps and lots of flux
I've been using eutectic silver bearing solder (62/36/2), with RMA flux, it's wonderful.
i'll give it a try, that sounds good
i once got this clipping of solder, and the rosin smelled great, there was a piney note, similar to bow rosin, but i only encountered it once
that was a rosin core, i use cello rosin for soldering, so it usually smells like that
i normally use 63-37
The silver bearing stuff is not cheap by any means but it sure is nice
I got all excited making purple basil pasta... Such a bright strong colour... and then when i cooked it it just turned green.
bah
haha
Oh, that's fun! I had some black bean pasta a while back, and sure enough, it was black. Pretty goth looking.
ha
i did regualr basil, and i am doing spinach later tonight.
i did spinach before, it doesnt really change the taste, just makes it a pale green
i did carrots too, that was a fail
too much water
I should make some homemade pasta at some point
Oh yeah homemade pasta is pretty great. My spouse is eating Indian-vegetarian at the moment so I found an eggless egg pasta recipe that's actually legit.
I still need to do the real test: Can I make homemade ravioli with it?
My issue is that my wife can't eat gluten
And I am... not good at making gluten free pasta
Yeah, you are a real gluten for punishment there.
(Obv if my spouse could not have gluten, I'd develop the best gluten-free repertoire I could.)
gluten free pasta is a crime
😛
ive been doing dry bronze die pasta for a while, but hand made is really good with certain sauces
At the risk of sacrilege, I'm liking various kinds of cauliflower "pasta" that have popped up in recent years too.
I'm trying! She says she likes it but I can see her just saying that for my sake
actually one of my favourite things now is "kraft dinner" expect with good cheese and pasta. The irony being it costs basically the same and takes almost the same time
Heh heh. Oh, I have a much worse culinary crime in my freezer right now. I'll let you know if it works out tomorrow...
like so
I typically just add stuff to the Kraft boxed stuff, subbing in the water for milk, adding cheese, shredded chicken, frozen vegetables, a very cheap filling bulk meal
kraft dinner here is $2+. and good pasta and a bechamel isnt much more.
slightly more "watching" over it i guess.
I have difficulties making meals for myself on a good day, so I typically make mostly microwaveable meals
ah
Today I used up some leftovers to make a focaccia pizza.
Oh and there's my noodles.
My spouse is usually pretty blunt when she doesn't like something but she's not as good at picking flavors apart so it's a "I don't like it. One of the spices is wrong" instead of "Oh, there's too much rosemary"
(I'm almost antipodal to being a spoonie when it comes to cooking. I can and have visited a spoonie friend and washed the dishes, cleaned their kitchen, and made them some food including several days worth of leftovers.)
I’m confused by the comments that get made on my LinkedIn posts about boards I’m working on. Like just making jabs at how they look.. I just don’t get it
That's weird. To me your boards always look quite clean, design-wise.
Maybe it’s just cultural differences, I’m not sure
It always seems to be from people who work for Chinese PCB/PCBA fabs
Which, I just don’t get. I’m not complaining about board quality in my posts.. so why take the time to make the comments
I just don’t understand it. It will probably be forever a mystery.
And maybe it’s just language barrier, 🤷♂️
"your boards are crap, buy ours". thats kinda it. ive seen it in other industries
well, i got 5-6 meals worth of basil pasta now 😛
mmm
Yum lol
Do the American thing and fry it lol
O_o
deep fry with panko crumbs?
wraped around shrimp?
actually that might be good haha
No, just drop spinach leaves in hot oil
Or drizzle them in oil and spices and lay on a pan and bake at like 400F/205C
You can do the same thing with kale
i got rid of the kale. pulled it out and gave it to someone
i have swiss chard and lettuces, and the spinach (and the herbs)
my friend gave me a trick to keep the lettuce fresh for like 2 weeks
after picking
no. he washes them, then pates them on paper towel, then stacks them with the wet paper towel in a zip lock.
Ah, yeah that would work too
they seriously taste just as they were picked after 2 weeks
not gonna bother with that for the spinach though
ill have 2 more pounds by saturday to pick
ha
maybe ill give this bag away
my letuce should be ready to pick this weekend
It doesn’t seem to grow so well when it’s 35C+ all the time
My pumpkin on the other hand love it. Thankfully outpacing the squash beetles
most of the spinach sprouted though. 15 or so feet in a row
Put down more fertilizer this evening to really help it blow the pumpkins up
my pumkin trellis colapsed and i think its the squirrels eating the female blossoms
so i think maybe the single one i got is it.
ill try something more protected next year
I’ve got about 8-10 between 2-3” up to nearly 6-7”
And really packing on the size overnight
nice
@tardy badger, when you make a pumpkin so large that it eats you with your twisted gardening techniques, tell it I said "hi"
Will do, I’ll be contacting Stephen Spielberg as well
Nevermind, make that Henry Selick
Maybe both
spielberg takes 3 months to look at the shows hes actually working on, i dont think youll hear back on the pumpkin till you are long digested
😛
James and the Giant peach meets Seth and the Giant Pumpkin
I mean, George Schultz is long dead so you can't bug him about the great pumpkin.
Maybe Tim burton
Tim Burton would love to make a movie about you after you die at the hands of your own giant pumpkin, I'm sure.
Perfect, write it, send it to press
My garden is what happens when I don't stop my best-friend-besides-my-spouse from screwing around with it, however, she's forgetful and plants random seeds she collected from her garden and so she won't remember what she planted and I'm always at least a bit concerned that she's eventually going to plant a mutant brassica that's going to develop consciousness and try to eat me.
I'm confused
I can't get inputs from a form then sens them to a mail or something with js? or do I need php?
*Charles Schultz, although amusingly a friend of mine married someone with that name
Random question, but does anyone know what this might be?
I found boxes upon boxes of these, and I have no idea what they are
If you have a ton of them, you might want to sacrifice one and break open the plastic housing to see what's inside.
No clue...
No prob! ~Thanks for the suggestion anyway!
i'd guess hall effect sensor, but there's only two wires
any context for them? labeling on the box? etc
Nothing at all
Just a bunch of them in foam packaging, about 200 in total
could be something off a turbo encabulator?
Welp
I just watched a 40+ minute video about what numbers are
Numbers are sets. It's set theory. Why is it all set theory, I'm baffled
because the current trend for the formalist schools of mathematics is to base everything on set theory?
;)
I think because everything tangible exists in sets, even nothing exists in a null set 🙂
This woman** was so energetic in her presentation on 'Induction' (numberphile 2 days ago YTube):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bylFzBxzQ9M
**Zvezdelina Stankova
Which an interesting thing that’s always been hard to wrap my head around is the fact that a null set is simultaneously size 0 and infinitely large…
The infinitely large part is the thing I don’t understand because it’s a union of arbitrarily small number totals
Which should mean it isn’t zero but also is..
Oh man
But it also helps explain why .99… is equal to 1
Lol
And the explanation is none of this conventionally makes sense
Or I should say it requires the same line of thinking
A lot of math falls out from the very definitions.
Yup
2 ^ 0 = 1
8 ^ 0 = 1
16 ^ 0 = 1
2 ^ 0 = 1; 2 ^ 1 = 2; 2 ^ 2 = 4..
You need that one so they said 'okay let's give you that one as anything raised to the (otherwise fictional) zeroth power'.
The more we study math and the universe, the less we understand about the fundamentals of our existence
In that the mysteries compound faster than the answers
Nah it's just arfing cool. ;) Like the mandlebrot set: part of the Universe but unappreciated without first inventing a computer (computational machine that speeds up iterations enough to notice something like the mandelbrot set).
I don't take that as evidence 'we are living in the Matrix' and all that kind of extrapolation. It should be more than enough to say: we do not yet understand. Isn't this interesting. Let's look further.
I personally think the compounding mysteries are humbling
If you take the time to understand what we do and don’t know, it gives you a deep appreciation for what we have here on earth
Getting seriously ill is humbling. It's a good lesson that eventually nobody avoids.
Definitely
transfer of knowledge is one of the most stupendous things .. someone who lived 500 years ago can tell 'me' (quite personally, really) what they know and I can 'get it'. (all hail gutenberg)
And, like, by an easy mechanism, not something complicated and biological like eating their brains and absorbing their knowledge.
That'd be an interesting premise for a novel... a gene-altering retrovirus that actually unlocks the ability to absorb knowledge by eating brains. And all the infected people get addicted to the rush of information, stumbling around in a daze looking for their next fix. You think you have problems with standard zombies? Try ones which have 250 IQs and the learned skills of dozens of prior victims...
...and, as we discovered, everybody else has to work their jobs in the middle of the apocalypse.
"Darnit, Bob's brain got eaten. Anybody know a good short-order cook?"
I have have been researching from last 2 days about "How CPU understand the machine language" I don't even understand 10% of it... Only find the defination of "what is machine language" on the internet.
when it's done, somebody's working on it
"Machine language" is the actual binary instructions the CPU fetches from memory and executes. Each CPU has its own set.
what are called those gears that do engage within a certain speed?
can you give more details?
could be a centrifugal clutch, but would help to know what kind of device you're thinking of
There is no feeling greater than understanding how something complex works, as well as how every part of a given system interlocks with each other, thereby allowing you to figure out how to do what you set out to, especially on Linux.
synchromesh?
glibc...on musl...is a pain in the !@# to set up...and I'm not even done yet...
With how flimsy that derailer mount... was.. I'm not surprised.
well they are meant to be flimsy, but this one, maybe a but too much so
yo how the !@#$ ?
ha
slipped out and dropped the bike on its side
bent only slightly, but then just fell off when i tried to pull it back a little by hand.
i dont think it should have broke that easy (although they are meant to break on purpose)
anyway, got stranded 15km from home
ha
good times
next ride (fixed already) i bring zip ties
and a spare hanger when it comes in the mail
ouch...
Aaw man, I did the same thing like 15 years ago. no tools, 40km from home... I managed to turn the botom caster screw out with a stone, to remove the derailer.
then I used my belt wrapped around the frame to hold up the chain good enough to ride it the rest of the way. sucked though.
killed my belt too
well, these days we have google maps, so i found the home depot was 3km from me, so i walked there, and then zip tied it all up
could have been worse
was super hot out too
gross humidity
I stared for like an hour without understanding the issue lol
I'm sorry for the comment
I'm shopping for automotive fuses and very few of them seem to be UL listed. This surprises me, as I would think uncertified fuses could be grounds for the dealer denying a warranty claim should the car later have electrical problems. Do I have some kind of basic misunderstanding here?
That surprises me too. Do they have other certs?
almost everything i find says UL listed https://www.amazon.ca/Assorted-Automotive-Replacement-Assortment-BoatMarineRVSUV/dp/B07FDZ4TZV?th=1
MulWark 220pc ATO & ATM Style Blade Fuse Set includes standard type fuses and mini type fuses of 10 ratings commonly found in most modern cars and trucks, with see-through cover for quick detection of blown fuses. Readily identifiable and easily replaced, this fuse can be specified for a variety ...
The ones at the hardware store had no certification indicated on the package. Also they didn't have the form factor I needed (LP-mini). I ended up buying a small variety pack on Amazon that said it was UL listed on the product page but upon delivery it looks like it isn't -- currently waiting for them to get back to me about the certification number.
looks like a lot of product packaging just doesn't list the certification, hence amazon reviews like this one on a similar product
here's the packaging, apparently https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/91+w1yaoD4L._AC_SL1500_.jpg
i see
looks fine to me. when he mentions ATO open. it's means you can probe the metal material on top of the fuse while it's still installed in the vehicle with a multimeter for continuity without having to remove the fuse for a physical inspection.
which is normal and a desired feature. not all fuses have that feature.
@wooden schooner eaton.com
https://www.eaton.com/content/dam/eaton/products/electronic-components/resources/data-sheet/eaton-agc-fast-acting-glass-tube-fuses-data-sheet.pdf
Usual hardware store find under 'Buss' or 'Bussmann' - AGC and there's some kind of marking on them that's a logo. Can't find the box right now.
UL Listings are surprisingly a lot less common as of late.
I think he was specifically asking for the ATM-LP series? https://www.eaton.com/content/dam/eaton/products/electrical-circuit-protection/fuses/data-sheets/bus-ele-ds-2050-atm-lp.pdf
Yeah, I don't see any certification indicated in the data sheet
is it required for your project? they're pretty much the main supplier of replacement fuses in the US.
The first one says it is UL listed but does not give a certification number
The issue is that I don't want the car mfr to say my warranty is void because I didn't use a certified fuse
was there already a problem? or is this just piece of mind?
Similar to how renters insurance can deny claims when you use non certified devices in your home
This is a warranty, which has monetary value
because they're not going to balk because you used a non-dealer fuse if that's what you mean.
Oh nice. Any references to help me learn more about this?
I'd think they would balk at anything they can balk at.
bussman is what you'd get if you went to an automotive parts store for fuse replacements (advance, auto zone, oreilys, etc)
Right but this is not good faith, this is warranty claims
Maybe they'll be good faith, I don't know. I was assuming they'd be stingy
well can you take a picture of another fuse and see if there are any physical or aesthetic differences?
I'm sure the fuse is good but that's irrelevant. The certification specifically is what matters for a warranty claim
im not sure they fust will matter, unless its VW (they try to get out of any warranty claim)
The first page I linked has the fuse current profile which is part of the UL certification process. If you need an actual certification for the fuse contact Eaton, I'm sure they'll be able to pull that up. I'm not sure if the cert itself is publicly listed.
Cool nice. I wonder why it's not public
because they have millions of products?
So what?
0.0001% of all claimants will have done this much due dilligence.
Yep agreed
Go to the dealer, ask them to replace the fuse, tolerate the eye-roll, get a signature &c. I don't know.
Right, that's what I assume people do
I'm a trouble maker and I want to exercise whatever rights I have to not be locked into the dealer
My concern would be counterfeit fuses that look exactly like the real thing. ;)
I think I could just buy an overpriced OEM fuse from them and install it myself
The fuse might cost $2, but the labor charge would be another order of magnitude
Have the conversations; they cost 'nothing' and you never know when you'll meet someone sympathetic to functional concerns.
What does functional concerns mean?
What if it comes down to the testimony of the shop mechanic at the dealership? Start now and do business with them; bring it in for regular oil changes. ;)
functional concerns means many would agree you have a valid point rather than .. whatever they want to characterize it as, wrt not valid.
If I bought a fuse from my mechanic, maybe I could lean on them for a warranty claim even without paying them to install it
Ok this is getting to speculative to be real world useful but sometimes it be like that
I mean hopefully my car just doesn't get electrical problems of course
20-30 yrs ago we just 'bought a fuse' and never gave it a 2nd thought.
Yeah... the good ol' days...
You could 'go all EEVBLOG' and test 7 of 10 destructively and take your chances on the three remaining in the ten-pack. ;)
and let's not forget this, lol
#general-tech message
http://applications.eaton.eu/EG_CertificatesOfConformity is the closest i could find for certifications but it's all EU related. Couldn't find one for USA.
EC declarations of conformity (EMC directive and CE marking). Eaton is certified according to ISO9001 (Quality) and ISO14001 (Environment).
Also did find out Bussman fuses are made in Japan.
that's as far down this rabbit hole i'm sticking my head in, rest is up to you.
here is a vendor that lists UL cert numbers for its fuses https://m.littelfuse.com/~/media/automotive/datasheets/fuses/passenger-car-and-commercial-vehicle/blade-fuses/littelfuse_atof_datasheet.pdf
they even have a pdf printout of the paywalled UL database record, which i can't paste here because dyno is rate limiting me
Will Adafruit's LCD Backpack PCB work with ones from sparkfun too? there the same 16x2 LCD but their branding?
Just need a good color so I can see the lcd from the amiga case
LIVE AT 7PM ET! Desk of Ladyada - an ESPecially fun demo of web/wifi workflow https://youtu.be/fOWkadZykfA
This weekend we've been noodling around with the new ESP32 support for circuitpython. The ESP32 doesn't have mass storage but it does have wifi, so we can use that as a way to connect to the REPL and also transfer files. This stuff is all very very new in circuitpy 8.x but there's a definition for the odroid go, and it's a handy board to use bec...
I have the opposite problem: it's tough to buy British Standard fuses in the US.
Looking like I might get PCBs in time for the circuitpython day special show and tell 🤓
that should be stronger.
now i just need to cnc it and realise it wont fit, redo, and should be good 🙂
Me: casually waters garden
Yellow Jacket: “what a lovely leg you have here, just going to take a quick rest anddddd why are you kicking your leg?”
ha
I got a free tomato plant, which necessitated 100 dollars in purchases to keep it alive
There’s a reason people buy from the grocery store lol..
The only way growing food makes sense is if it’s in a scalp large enough to justify the costs
i find basil makes sense, cause if i buy it it is $4, and lasts a few days. if i grow it it is also $4 (and some watering and labour) and it lasts 2-3 months
but most everything else is pointless. i just made 4 jars of pickles
which i could have bought for $8
ah
Anybody have 2 factor authentication set up?
A lot of products say tou cant buy them without setting it up but it doesn't work.
I mean for adafruits website
Yes
i havent tried
The process doesn't work. The qr codes don't scan with the app you're directed to use, and the app wont take the alternate keys.
I wanna order some things that have that warning on them and I can't get it to cooperate
yeah i cant help you there. gotta hope someone else is seeing this that know more
PCBs from JLC arrived. Got out multimeter to trace test them, got one beep and then battery died. Went to get new battery, none left. I'm doomed I tell you, doomed!
Oh, that's frustrating! And all too familiar...
I also need a new battery for my multimeter
Accidentally left it on overnight lol
It has enough power to read voltages and probe continuity but probably not much longer
I have a cheap multimeter that uses an A23 battery (small cylindrical, 12V), which is not so easy to find (Digi-Key has them at a reasonable price). I stopped using it because it runs down too fast
My cheap multimeter thankfully uses a 9V
It's good to keep a whole battery of spares.
Yep, that's grade-AA advice there.
Every year around the second week of august I get cursed with the Christmas music earworm
since last time I failed, and I keep failing, do you have any trick to remove the shrinkwrap from the usb cables?
the shrinkwrap is almost rigid, doesn't come off easily, and the cables are super thin, so I keep breaking them
Probably just my brain grasping for happiness since this year has been a bit of a dumpster fire for me.
I usually try to cut with a sharp shallow blade along the length of the cable
😒 the ESP-32 board I got mislabeled the flash CMD pin as gnd. hooked up a 5v psu to it
esp32 is fine but it killed a display I had connected to the SPI, somehow
wait, the display is fine on a different board 🤔
that doesnt look the least bit spicy...
Looks like an outlandish boot
my understanding is they will be in the 50k Scoville range
sooo, i wont be eating them
ha
Oof what for? Home made pepper spray?
they were 25 cents a plant. i figured they would be good for portuguese chicken
but, turns out i literally need 1/10 of a pepper to make a chicken
and i have about 16 plants
haha
for 100's of peppers
there isn't anything like rhino/grasshopper but free?
Missus made me a t shirt (with her cricut) for me b/day
Which features are you looking for? 3D design like Blender? Biomimetic porous structure generation? Something else?
nurbs, grasshopper, kangaroo and a World view, not something like inventor or solidworks where you are forced to revolve around the object, but this last point doesn't really matter
blender is not a great solution because it mainly uses subd, nurbs integration sucks, and it's not a cad
My favorite thing to wake up to is what looks like the aftermath of a frat party on the main level because the dog projectile’d all over the place overnight
fusion has some rhino like freeform surface features. nurbs went out of style in the early 90s though.
as for world view... technically they are all world view, but the ui is sometimes a bit weird. you can make a whole city in fusion (and sw, and inventor) its not just for single objects
O-o
I really enjoy that fact that you could be the most brilliant software engineer in the world but still spend 4 hours looking for a mistake in your code that simply ended up being a missing letter in a method name
And then getting paid $40/hr+ for that haha..
thats what 3d animation is. spending 39 hours a week trying to figure out why your 1 hour task isnt working
What’s even better is I’m basically shooting the wind with this task because the software lead is both out of office and overworked on leading three big projects
I have a rough idea on what is wanted but I’m super confident that a majority of what I’m doing is going to get ripped out haha..
My record as a newb is 3ish hours troubleshooting simple keyboard code because I was missing a comma.
Hehe…
What is it about 2 hours after lunch? I'm always peckish
I’m just struggling. Wednesday’s are always hard on my brain
hello i am attempting to run my code on the mu editor but my led display screen is not running the codd
its is the money sensing tip jar
I am using the circuit python-mode on the mu

How long must I struggle in toolchain purgatory until I can cross the Rubicon and rule the world of Segger?
I’ve heard a roughly 40 days and 40 nights
I really love all these weird shaped LEDs, wish I could find a use for them besides the spike shaped ones.
Wow, downgrading 8 versions helped.
LED grave yard with the skull shaped ones?
Spikes will be perfect for the shoulders here
I like the idea of using them in dioramas as crystals. Don’t know if there are any Expanse fans but the blue reminded me of protomolecule or even StarCraft mineral patches.
Visual studio code 1.70.1 is out looks to have some interesting improvements
oooh protomolecule
is that a new featherwing that terraforms asteroids?
I'm working on a ritual scene for a friend
witchy vibes with the rainbow cats and such
Ohhh sounds cool!
I have to (read: want to) write a driver for an LED chip first
I'd like to see Earth terraformed, first. ;)
i just want my back yard terraformed
I want my cat terraformed first so it can grow catnip on its back
Heeheeheehee
Hi does exist some sort of cheat sheet for steppers/servos for linuxcnc under different prices budget? I can see the docs, but all about it seems to be under the hobbystic scale
@late fulcrum hi, so I solve my problem and I just want to thank you, for your solution regarding the right servo frequency. Regards
hi all! I didn't realize there was a discord! Super cool
yep there is like 35k subscribers for adafruit
You have reached the wibbly wobbly timey wimey person. How can I direct your call?
Hello
Its
It's my soul
It's been looking for Thor's hammer for about 10 incarnations
What do?
Hmm, souls are more the spiritual department, but Asgardian artifacts are the bailiwick of a few different departments (Department of Alien Affairs and S.H.I.E.L.D among them)
So I should look for the thought form of the Asgardian s.h.i.e.l.d Thor?
Or maybe I could go back to the ancient Thor comics
I don't even really know what the hammer does
All's I know is it must be mine
Either of those should yield progress toward your goal. There is also Lego set 76209 or the 3dlightfx Mjolnir light.
It was a strange dream. But it was clear as day
I think I'll look at the legos
And see what the hammer does in old comics
Reportedly, lifting the hammer is only possible by those the hammer deems worthy, so most of us might have to settle for visitation or virtual ownership.
Oh yes that's also a factor
Personally, I believe Stan Lee would have been able to lift it
The vision in the dream said they'd fire a pope at me , but eventualy the hammer would be found or I'd find the person to take me to ot
It
Most of the original documentation is in Norse, but as Norse has had a strong influence on Anglish (er, English as it's now known), it's not too hard to learn to read Norse. There are also probably some good translations available.
Also beware the trickster god Loki: I would not put it past him to influence someone's dreams for his own obscure goals.
The pope I saw was not a .22 pope . But a howitzer pope 7.0 anti - remain - with - life - pope
I think it hinted I will die but that's not the end iny dream
The road goes on and on
Correct: death in dreams is often symbolic of change.
Hmm yes
I also saw a motorcycle
He was the good guy
That took me on my way after the massacre
I recall. He was fast on his motorcycle
really hope I don't die irl. Cause I think this is the thing I gotta do
I also saw the pope had the Saturn square
The 9 boxes with the numbers and it was leading him to me
But this but a dream. Clear as day tho
So to clarify. My dream said I've been searching for a godlike mallet . That there would be big trouble. But I'd be rescued and taken in the direction of (I don't want to reveal but) I'd be taken to the "earth mallet"
...it could be a deceptive dream. But why bother so much detail. Why not just oogie boogie scary Ghost dream and conserve power if it's not a sign
That is a good question, and not one for which I have a ready answer
It also makes me question. Is there people out there in some kind of incarnation loop. But they want a "wind knife" or the all seeing spectacles of deity's" or maybe even the water of life
Those are legitimate things to ponder, but are also among the vast array of answers I do not have.
Well I hope you get the thing that is the reason you do stuff. Now I must get in my flying saucer..... Jk my bed it's 11:45pm in NSW Australia
But maybe some people also want nothing and get nirvana
Melbourne here, hope the weather is nicer up north
Adafruit Customer Support Forums updates and maintenance begins 🙂 https://adafruit.com/forumupdates
that thing has Terminal.app
I got an M2 and kicked off all intel chips off my machine since intel raising their prices by 30%
default shell was csh in 2002 ;)
I am learning zsh
There was a way to change your default shell if you really want a different one.
This is my first Apple computer since my dad build an apple II plus when I was a little kid
I just invoke the shell I want in the shebang inside the script. ;)
yeah
I ran the iMac G4 for a few years.
I installed "Oh My Zsh"
this M2 is fast
M2 macbook air plays games pretty well
not as good as my PS5 but decent
not yet is my understanding
I'm pretty sure you can drop the regular Pi Pico UF2 and it wld work on the pico w, but WiFi and the LED won't work, etc
Its the same base chip
oh yeah good point
Is there a group dedicated to programmable drones?
I'm not aware of one, hopefully someone else chimes in with an answer. This server doesn't have anything, but I'm sure there's something out there
That said there are probably people here who are into drones and can talk about them
I don't remember what was said just the other day about it.
https://github.com/raspberrypi/pico-sdk/blob/master/src/rp2_common/cyw43_driver/cyw43_bus_pio_spi.c
I'd be watching the code base for references to that.
I am unaware of any atm, but I would love to join one too! I have been working on such a project
will the drones deliver my groceries?
Not deliver groceries, but be able to recognize hand signs for a videography project I’m working on.
Similarly, the Pico image will work on the YD-2040 95% clone from china, just there's no board.NEOPIXEL or board.BUTTON available.
A is for apple. And in ogham script was gaelic was closest to the tree of life thousands of years before having to pay to be nailed to a stick
A is the start. And the Gaelic language each letter is a tree. A is indeed for apple. But I am feeble. And a can also mean android
B may be for birch
C for cedar
Does not compute. Run script "sip coffee"
I was just Saiyan how Apple Mac is the genuine best name for any money endeavour. Cause it starts with apple
And to the druids tens of thousands ago before Adam . A was the first letter and meant apple
But if you use "Apple Mac" for advertising, you'll lose a lot of money... Like, as a direct name for a product.
Yea I'd prob try own it too
Huuummm
But do you whiff read my anti logic
Apple is a great name cause it's the beggining
Well. To ancient gaelics it was
"Little creek" "Amphibious bike" "Good camera that doesn't get wet or foggy"
At my closest waterfall they still have logs from the 19th century decomposing in the water near the "shore" off the base of the waterfall back when that water source was used to run lumber for paper mills
It would take a crane to get it and it's hard to access so they have just left it here for like 100 years
hi all,
Could I use some constructive criticism on my C++ code
https://github.com/stiliajohny/hardware-gps-tracker/tree/gps-tracker/hardware_code/gps_unit
( not sure if there is an appropriate channel to post that
some comments aren't useful and what it does can be inferred from reading the docs or proto of the called method
The debugging serial printing should be done in a separate method so it can be turned on/off

Happy Sunday folks! This weekend we spent some time getting back to the camera boards and breakouts we designed a while ago. i wanted to try using cameras with esp32 with the esp32_camera module since we're now using that in circuitpython (https://github.com/adafruit/circuitpython/pull/6684) for a wide collection of camera chipset support in the...
too late 😦
I wish I had a good telescope some days because Jupiter was looking extra bright next to the moon this morning
consider the following https://www.printables.com/model/224383-astronomical-telescope-hadley-an-easy-assembly-hig
it's on my list of stuff to build at some point in the future after I finish the rest of my projects lel
do you think it would work for soldering? 🤣
what
I tried a couple solution but none let me magnify 6x while looking a feet away
so I can't solder some stuff because the pins hole are too small for me to me
I've not decided to buy myself a soldering iron on payday..
I can't find mine, so not really a choice. 😅
Related to a lightning talk I just gave at work today. Figured one or two others might smirk at it.
O_o
doesn't get it
I was guessing it was Marvell vs Marvel
i see
Mine is just a guess, it could be yours
I'm trying to find out a survival video of what happens if you put an hard drive in a very strong magnetic field (like 200000/300000 gauss, ie: like NMR spectrometers)
wikipedia speaks of "destructive magnetic field" after 2T so I'm curious
some japanese lab tried to go to a controlled 1200T and blew up their lab
there were almost 30C at 10pm, it seemed like a sauna
now it's storming the temperature is around 24C at 3.30 am
......
so cold. 30c.
I nearly melt at this temperature
for me the avg temperature of earth is too hot, I wish I could live on venus before they had a global warming that make it unable to support life
Venus is closer to the sun than Earth, I'm guessing it was always fairly toasty there.
Being close to the sun isn't all the story, there's the atmosphere, the clouds, the amount of light absorbed by planet(albedo which is a huge factor) etc
From what I read before it was more like -50oF
If you wanna see gaseous metals one day go on mercury 😄
I was thinking I have gaseous metals here on Earth, then I realized it's mercury vapor! 🤣
or cave creek arizonna when it's 2690oF in the city
i had to make a solar system for a show though so i vaguely remember its orbit
I made every metals like copper, tin, lead, zinc, iron, etc 🤣
I wonder how hard it would be to build a copper vapor laser
Was going to make a joke with a pic of a bronze statue "man after 5 minutes in a gaseous copper atmosphere" but the bot blocked it 😦
do you remember the sentence ?
You mean the mnemonic?
An astronomy teacher asked their class to vote on the planethood of Pluto. They voted for it, and then the teacher pointed out there are more people in that class than in IUPAC, so you could consider their opinion to carry more weight. Better yet, one of the interim definitions of "what is a planet" excluded Earth by mistake!
pluto is a binary system, but i think after the new pictures it kinda does meet their rules
Pluto would probably tell us their opinion in a few years (each year is 273 years on Pluto)
as would charon
And Persephone
If you think being one day ahead in australia is bad
wait till you are 2700 years in the past on Pluto because each of your year is 270 year on earth
earth and moon are potentially binary planets as well
ive done enough discovery documentaries on this stuff i should remember it all by now
haha
Discovery hasn't asked me to do any documentaries, but it would be cool if they did!
ha
I wonder what would happens if something started giving mass to the moon (to have an atmosphere) and self-ignited core (ie: brown dwarf for surface temperature) and put it 3 time the distance from currently to not change tides
i jsut do the 3d
plantets, curiosity rover
ison
and new horizons
that was the last one
That would be the best prank of all time, moon suddendly appears blue and green like it was terraformed
then we got too expensive for them 😦
and astronauts rush to their vehicles like the guys in top gun 🤣
ha
"No time to explain, get to the chopper!"
ha
and once they get to the moon it's just two big blue and green tarps above each other with a sign they say it's a prank
ha
should do a tv show where we go to the moon and find the fake moon landing set - on the moon
the other great prank would be to write "wash me" on perseverance camera while it's on mars
or maybe we find moon men, and they have a fake earth landign set
would feed space research for the next 200 years
Like that joke about Kubrick being asked to fake the moon landing, but being a perfectionist, he insists on filming it on location
nah the joke is he askes to film it on location that was used for the moon landing in the conspiration
right ?
no idea, its a fake story
but the earth is flat...
:x
that one confuses me the most
ha
so there is only one place in the solar system you know immediately if they didn't film it at the location
The Sun 🤣
like, i cant go to the moon so i could think it was fake. but i CAN go on a plane
didnt we send a probe into the sun recently?
when I was young I took a plane and I was scared to death that it would go too high and go adrift in space
ha
i went on a plane when i was 7 or 8. and then the same plane crashed a few years later
same type of plane rather. (dc 10 / Md 11) but i believed it was the same plane
I can understand that feeling as a kid
same here in a way, didn't close the luggage door on a overhang luggage rack and years later it derailed and in my kid mind that was somehow my fault
Though I’ve always like flying. Just something about the perspective of flying
Like my father had to convince me to not give myself up to the police 🤣
Not that they would have laid any charges on a 8yo
ha
someone crashed a truck into into a cesna and smushed it
another guy took the wingtip of an a320. that was expensive
wow
a crash between a plane and a plane is something that should never happens
Like like a rank-and-file fight between a polar bear and penguins armies
since they live so far from each other (opposite poles)
trucks are always near planes
ha, a girl crashed her truck into the ramp snowplow. that was a fun day (white out, she wasnt hurt)
oh I thought you meant like a truck off the highway or the truck was flying
The Parker Solar Probe. Not "into" the sun, but a lot closer than we've gone before.
the only probe you could send into the sun would probably have a neutronium body
but then the sun would be gone
and our solar system shortly after
replace by a supergiant or a nova or a black hole
sun isnt that hot on the surface, so you could probably get close for a few minutes
weather you could transmit the data i dont know
yeah the surface temperature isn't the problem
it's temperature that used to be at the core and get radiated out as infrared, UV etc
It's about 6000C, which I think is beyond the melting point of basically everything.
that would kill you way before the surface temperature
xkcd did the calculation once and if you could teleport instantly
you probably could stand on the sun for 6 nanoseconds
ive done cgi suns a few times. we juse paste nasa imager on spheres. every few years the quality and detail goes way up
You’d burn up before you got close to the surface of the sun
almost, but thats why i say a few minutes.
neutronium doesn't melt no matter if it's trillions of kelvin 😄
Why would the sun be gone? We're not building a sun killer, just a probe
just go at night when it's off
because neutronium is extremely heavy, billions of billions of tons for a teaspoon
so something as big as a probe would have enough gravity to knock the sun off it's orbit or make it collapse on itself and form a red supergiant
um
I think you're off by a few orders of magnitude.
unless a piece of neutron star ever fly near us
what do you mean no? black holes can send gamma ray burst that are still damaging extremely far from them
and neutron stars are 2nd after black holes
it's not far fetch that a piece of mass can fly off and get detached like when a rotating blade hit a stone
they dont sneak up on other stars though
A solar mass worth of neutronium is on the order of 10km across, I think.
Let's assume our probe is the size of a cubesat, and not hollow. That would be about 10¹⁷g. The sun weighs about 10³³g (it's not nearly as dense, but it's BIG). I don't see that throwing the sun out of orbit, collapsing it, or anything like that.
internet astronomy sites says between 10^17 kg/m3. I don't mean a whole star but a big piece the size of a probe
that is a lot of weight that would affect gravity along it's path
It's also not clear whether small chunks of neutronium would be stable. I'd generally expect them to go "sproing" without the self-gravity of a neutron star to keep it under extreme pressure.
Yes, I think it would evaporate due to Hawking radiation.
pretty much every artist renditions I've seen show a solid core and a nebula gas mist around it
even on the surface it's much described as a soup rather than a solid (but the center is solid)
Hawking radiation needs an event horizon, so I don't think that would apply to "regular" matter.
Some neutronium at the core of the sun would presumably be stabilized by the gravitational and radiation pressure.
In any case it's an internet argument you don't want to be right winning 😄
O_o
"So turns out I was right it's ----" body shred to elementary particules and dispersed in the universe
While being close enough to observe a neutron star to see you were right
Hence ihavenofish's brilliant "in imagination land" comment
Well if I can't see on from up close when I'm dead I'd rather there be no afterlife
It's a good question. I'd still tend to expect it to go "sproing" and decompose into heavy elements, but my intuition may be miscalibrated there.
Intuition is of debatable value here, but it's all I have at the moment unless I start cracking some books and working some equations, but it's bedtime in my time zone, so while I'll be cracking a book, it won't be a theoretical physics book (although I've been enjoying Simon Singh's book "Big Bang" as bedtime reading lately)
Neutron stars must be what those 60000 kilowats servo motors are for on digikey 😄
Like to rotate them
there
Not a servo, nor a bunch of kilowatts, but I picked up one of these 600W BLDC motors with an integrated motor controller, and it's a really nice unit for US$49 https://www.allelectronics.com/item/dcm-2460/24-vdc-brushless-motor-600-watt/1.html
MAC-BMC P/N 12570-3. Powerful brushless motor with built-in 30A motor speed controller. Designed for electric scooters. Great low-end torque. Requires 5K Ohm potentiometer or Hall-effect throttle to interface with speed control. Great motor for battlebots, hobbyists and experimenters.• No-load Specs: 2480 RPM @ 24.6 VDC, 3A 100 kV•...
neat
I wonder how it goes when you order one of those
Like they call you, and you tell them... err? just put it in an envelope like usual and ships it to me ?
I don't see what's so complicated?!
Can you run one of those at low rpm?
Then you figure out you accidently ordered the 50kw one instead of 5W one by accicdent
Like less than 50?
sensorless brushless usually dont run slow
as they are in the same brochure/product lineup
Yes, I tried it, it was surprisingly smooth and stable (and still plenty of torque) at low RPM
ah
How low did you go?
And they tell you they have to ship it by cargo ship
It was a few months back, but I think it was on the order of 6RPM
And you need to make arrangements for a crane to pick it up at the destination port
The biggest servomotor I could find in a quick search on DigiKey is 15kW and only weighs 76kg, so they could put it in a box and ship it UPS, no problem. However, it's not stocked, and says "Quote Required", so the first step would be to submit a RFQ.
i have a 7.5kw ac servo, it is about 50kg
What's this hall effect throttle they speak of? And do electronic/programmable ones exist?
only 75kg ? I expected something like this to come with steel/titanium arms etc
and to turn like scales for trains or the likes
a tesla motor is several hundred kw, and only a few hundred kg
yeah but it's turning very low weight
these arent cast iron induction motors
in my mind a powerful servo would turn a 60 tons locomotive around a scale on the ground and such uses
ac servos have the highest power density of any motor
which mean they need to be really heavy and big to counterbalance something like a locomotive
locomotives use 3000kw field wound DC motors for driving (yes i did a documentary on that too)
Something like this: https://www.adafruit.com/product/5460 It just takes a voltage to control the speed.
You might recognize this interesting new component from behind-the-scenes studio clips of audio recording equipment or even music videos. A fader is a control device for fading or ...
When I toured the Lick telescope observatory, they said that the whole dome gets rotated by a 1/2 hp motor, just geared the heck down and very well balanced.
I mean the thing they use on the ground, sort of track on a "wheel" to rotate the locomotive in a repair yard but I don't know what's it called
yeah, people overestimate how much power it takes to move things.
typical industrial cnc machines only have 1-2kw servos for axis motion
my little cnc has 180w servos
It's not overestimating, the locomotive weight like 200 tons and the movable plate it's on is even more
so the arms on the servos have to support all that weight
yes but its not rotating at 6000rpm
you gear it down 500:1
and can move it by hand
We had an electron injector at the particle beam lab that was the approximate size and weight of a locomotive. The hydraulic positioning system broke one day and we had to just push it around ourselves. Not even geared down, we just mashed on it with our hands, but it moved (albeit slowly). Granted, we had removed pretty much all friction from the equation.
how do you distinguish what are all of those little things?
also how do you check their values with a meter? they are so small that I find impossible to get them right
I'm starting to enjoy china economic imperialism, 15 days free shipping from china is a dream/insane
Most likely condensers.
The larger one anyhow
Tweezer probes like these https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11060 or you can get tweezers that are an entire meter in themselves
Nordic just announced their first WiFi companion chip, the nRF7002
Today Nordic Semiconductor announces its entry into the Wi-Fi® wireless IoT market with the introduction of the nRF7002, an ultra-low power, dual-band Wi-Fi 6 companion IC.
The nRF7002 is a ‘companion IC’ designed to provide seamless Wi-Fi connectivity and Wi-Fi-based locationing when used alongside a host device. These include Nordic’s nRF5284...
NRF7x Airlift?
I’d probably be down for that if Adafruit can ensure deep sleep happens. I’m using an esp airlift with my nrf52840 currently but I’ve heard there are things preventing the esp airlift from achieving deep sleep. I haven’t tried it for myself yet but I’m getting pretty close to a Magtag weather style project with it.
Of course a large tft isn’t exactly low power friendly so it’s just a bonus if I can get it into deep sleep.
I have no idea of what I'm doing, I haven't never really dealt with cmd/ps... anyone is able to give me an help?
It looks like you have made the ign-ws directory, then made another in it, then made a third one in that.
mkdir src repeatedly failing in a freshly created directory seems quite odd
seems like they did a symlink
you got it 🙂
I just had an on-topic discussion about soldering in the off topic channel which should have been here but didn't realize 🤣
wait did someone rearrange the channel list?
not that i can see
i think #general-tech used to come before #general-chat
no I was just blind and didn't see I was in #general-tech with the soldering discussion
oooh
general tech is in 2nd for me
i thought the soldering was on-topic for #general-tech though
RPG props, maybe somewhat less on-topic
this is the more off topic one yes
the tech one is more random tech related chat. and of course everything else is specific stuff.
@blissful roost so I don't eat pork steaks because I find it disgusting, keep reading it's very similar to h00man, pigs eat anything, meat is too dense, feel like I have to overburn it to not get parasites etc
bacon/ham on the other hand...
I must have my daily portion of bacon
and I often do some meals on naan bread which must minimally have salami and/or pepperoni on it
and mushrooms/bell peppers/shredded cheese
Well, it's all subjective. 🙂
yeah, I don't really eat beef anymore because of the cooked texture/boringness
unless it's a small portion of ground beef or tartare
No valid reason, just all subjective I guess
Ohh, I love a good steak.
I should buy some shrimp this weekend, to go with the steaks... 😁
yeah me too but everytime I chew one it just get stuck into a ball of meat/endless chewing/i almost died last year because of that etc
and I tried most cuts/most fiber direction/most doneness etc
Needs moar biltong, obviously....
even that, i tried the thinly cut japanese beef with ponzu sauce
and I have a big mental block eating them whole
but chinese fondue I still do
I've never tried any kind of fondue.. not had the chance, as yet.
i like yellow cakes
that is a cake you're unlikely to accidentally pick up and eat
more likely to have a coffee with controlled pure water in it
*heavy water
I think that is actually rather normal water, just the potential to have radioactive stuff in if the reactor it was connected to was having issues
I've heard the lines were often marked "CPW" and recited as "coffee pot water", only takes one person to not get the joke
how bout this cake?
the core looks a bit demonic ;-)
hehe
looks like a bit of strawberry syrup soaked in
no
it get spilled on during the assembly phase?
its filled with straberries mascerated in maple syrup and vanilla
ooh even better
almost 2lbs of straberries in it
if only it were marascino cherries 😛
cherries are awesome
theres also 2 lindt 70% chocolate bars in the cake itself
It's my birthday today =D
sorry i ate all the cake
There was cake... and you didn't tell me?!?
Disappoint.
indeed
I already ate it yesterday, too bad
It was yellow cake, you wouldn't be able to travel anymore since you'd trigger radiation detectors
And you could be subject to daily inspections by the International Atomic Energy Commission
no it was a chocolate strawberry cake
before that was a yellow cake
fairly sure it was demonic ore in that cake and not strawberry as well
It was a carrot cake with a sugar paste triforce
But there was nano GPS tracker in the sugar
And radioactive things also
so annoying to try to help someone and they never answers probing questions...
Or you ask someone a question that should have a simple yes/no answer..... and they reply with an essay.
or that about my chip question the other day? 🤣
I still don't get the question, but... No matter.
you guys just missed that it was answered in another channel by someone in purple but while I was in the other channel both you and the other answerer decided that I was being abusive towards adafruit or something. So it wasn't a discussion anymore but just a bunch of accusations which I didn't see a need to reply to. Basically
and it was too long to delete at that point otherwise I would have done that
Ohh, I decided on no such thing.
I didn't even imply such.
I was simply confused by the nature of the question.
I didn't see the datasheet, when I saw the chip I thought that was the "scientific name" of the breakout
Fair.
And I couldn't find it on internet so I was really confused about what the chip was or it was completely custom
So I asked the question in circuitpython help, then after a while and no answer I thought it was off-topic for circuitpython help despite my question starting from someone else question in there
so I decided to asks in projects instead since it seemed more on-topic there, meanwhile while going back to circuitpython a purple had answered it including a drawing from the datasheet that explained all the numbers and marks on the chip
when Adafruit advertises a specific part number, they usually try hard to provide a genuine one, and take it seriously when there's evidence that they've failed at doing so
and modern chip markings can be confusing and not reflect the full part number, but you did seem to learn that too
basically I asked a question in two channels and it took a life of it's own in the other one
Definitely something that happens... Lol
I tried to explain a bit in projects but meanwhile the purple was giving out really good complete information so I felt it was rude to not ask follow up questions/thank them
and when I came back I saw that peoples thought I was accusing adafruit of something which was never my intent. I just couldn't understand why of all adafruit product this one seemed to be a complete black box
And besides no matter the vendor, if it's not "open" enough I don't buy it. Need to have a datasheet and a brand at the very least
That's how if I see an LCD for sale I can remove 99% of the products from the list
When I have a couple of choice left the 2nd big criteria is having pinsout, a driver, examples etc and the 3rd one is being able to find videos of peoples using it/answered forum posts about issues with it
ie: my first criteria is what happens if I have an issue with it
sometimes Adafruit ends up with the only easily searchable copy of a datasheet, which can seem a little suspicious to people. it seems to sometimes be because the manufacturer has discontinued the part and chosen to remove the datasheet instead of keeping it online for reference (e.g., the LSM6DS33 was a particular one that i ran into)
https://www.adafruit.com/product/1667 don't seem to fit that criteria, no brand given, no datasheet, no manual, no brand markings on any of the pictures. google reverse image can't find it. And someone had an issue this morning where they can't use it on their PC. So at first glance something I'd never buy. Which is why I mention it in #live-broadcast-chat
they even say they found a chip while opening it which seems they have no idea either of what it is, and the chip is for the lcd panel, not for the whole screen
I mean it's not that it's suspicious or not, it's just that I have zero way to even start to find the issue if there is one
and if I can't the chip/component isn't much more than a paperweight
i think it's reasonable to have different expectations of low-cost items that Adafruit resells versus the generally well-documented and open source products they design themselves
And I mean that's how I'm able to help peoples or not, it doesn't meet my expectations and i'm not able to help because I don't know enough yet without some documentation so I'd just state that I've reach the limit of how I can try to help with that and that somebody with more knowledge can help
the forums are a good place to ask for adafruit support too. there is an additional set of knowledgeable folks there
yeah madbodger will be back later and he was checking the ENDI info from the screen angle, something I have no knowledge of
so if nothing is found I'll invite asker to ask adafruit support / the forums
what a hot day sheesh, it's over 100 in my workshop.
nice and cold inside here 😛
same here, I'm almost in hypothermia
better than melting outside
I finally nabbed a Pi 4 this morning off the Adafruit site
got mine in may from pishop, I couldn't believe it until I had it in my hands
in forums I'd say that I allegedly will get one while it was in transit / shipping
that allowed me to seal my pi 2b+ in a case with a touchsreen for a future house control unit
I overpaid a little though because I didn't have a power supply for it or the correct usb cable or enough SD hardware in case things went wrong
atleast you know you weren't buying it from a scalper
yeah... i mean it costs me 90$ meanwhile on the am-word canada site there was some scalpers selling only the rpi 4 with less memory for 300$
Hi guys, not sure where this goes so I figure maybe it goes here
I’m newish to maker stuff and I wanted to talk to an SD card using this SD mode but all I see reference to it and not much about it
What language are you trying to use? There are tutorials on adafruits website to walk you through getting the sd card to work.
It's me, I'm the essayist.
I wish my room was monitored by camera
I had a capacitor lifts off the other day
With the smoke/sparks coming out of the rocket as usual

in live broadcast chat
no it was very scary 😦
I thought the acid had come out and I had gotten some on me or on the floor
wait, capacitors have acid in them?
yeah some do: Tantalum electrolytic capacitor, sintered anode: Non-solid, sulfuric acid 0.1:18,000uF max 630V 125/200oC max temperature (from wikipedia electrolytic capacitors)
and peaches are full of cyanide
but they aren't going to spray me with it as a defense mechanism
while capacitors may if I accidently plug it the wrong way or put too much electricity in it
I think the only polarized capacitors are electrolytic?
I've heard the flying metal canisters can be rather dangerous too
Tantalum capacitors are also polarized
Not sure if that counts as electrolytic
Google said subtype of electrolytic so guess that solves that
For whatever reason my brain equates “electrolytic = liquid” but there are solid electrolytic materials
Aluminum electrolytic capacitors often use a boric acid based electrolyte. It's a mild acid, but is technically an acid.
There are the polymer aluminum electrolytic capacitors too, they're good for long life and extended temperature range because they don't contain liquid electrolyte.
Yeah, I’ve seen those on Digi-Key. I’ve thought of picking some up for projects
Acid is nothing to worry about with a cap. Little ones don't contain enough to do anything, and big ones are far more dangerous in other ways.
i blew up some that were 1" diam
inside a servo drive
I’m looking for an online degree or certificate in computer science. Any good recommendations?
ASU online I hear is pretty good
Your local community college probably has an IT associates of applied science that is focused on software development
hey anyone know where I can find the switch to the left ?
How does the switch operate?
Okay, hmm let me see if I can find something similar
This looks nearly identical
Oh wow, 3A, 30V rating 🤔
Going to save this for later
thanks, I will check it out 🙂
Good switches are such a hot button issue for some of us.
for safety reasons, the button really should not be hot either electrically or thermally 😁
and if it's "hot" as in radioactive, hopefully it's behind sufficient shielding
My brain after my first grad lecture after not being in school for almost 2 years
I have.. lots of studying to do this weekend lol
Seriously the last time I had to be woken up by the building maintenance when they came at night 🤣
We were supposed to be busy on a computer while the class was going up but there were technical issues and it ended up being an 8h class
Whoops hahaha
My class this evening was the graduate level of electromagnetism and guided waves
Lots of math
You got this skerr. I’ve seen what you can do. Your projects are always impressive. 👍
lots of math cause me a different problem, headaches and brain segmentation fault - I have to reboot (by sleeping) otherwise I'm stuck in a mental block
so I found my old PnP GURPS file and for a TL9 campaign (2200 to 2300) my character could make 500Ah batteries the size/weight of AA (total energy 15000KW)
wish I had stuff like that 😄
50$ each in 2250 currency
Ah, like in "This Island Earth"
did you get a specific ESC to work so far? If so which one(s) ?
I've mostly been running servos, but I have run a couple of Hobbyking ESCs (not sure which model) and the Traxxas one in my R/C truck.
going for quicrun 1060 brushed esc, rc4wd 540 35T motor, Gens Ace NiMH 7.2V 5000MAH Tamiya, SkyRC AC S65 6A 65W Charger, Gens Ace female XT60 to Tamiya adapter for a total of 131 USD total with shipping so far
Seems workable. I've been working with brushless motors and ESCs, but both technologies are fine, as long as the ESC matches the motor (yours does)
I love that if you look over at a counter that’s counting seconds, that the tiny delay in processing the change of visual orientation makes it appear that the time it took for the second to pass is longer than it normally is
Are you ok skerr? In class looking at the clock? I think that class has sent him into another dimension.
Yeah, that's a ridiculous hack. Benefits of having a brain that's clocked asynchronously...
I’m working on my watch 🙂
Trying to get the RTC clk input tick calibration right
Ahh that’ll do it too.
Basically I count up a bunch of ticks in a while loop comparing a stored monotonic value with a current monotonic value, decrease it by an offset value (it’s about 11% for this build) and then compare the drift over a 15 minute period
It is FINALLY here!

Cosplay Thrusters! Blast away with my latest system powered by a simple can of air duster!
No messing around with CO2 or N2O, no clumsy refilling of tanks, just screw on a can of air duster with my unique included clip/screw system and you are ready to go.
(clip system...
What kind of system do I need to choose to make these cosplay thrusters possible?
I wonder if he made this happen with arduino
He also uses co2 canisters
Gas bottle, solenoid valve, tubing, bright LEDs, basically.
Solenoid valve now that’s something I should look into lol
supercaps and lithium capacitors aor also polarized, felt I had to blurt that out
For high-proof hydrogen peroxide, you don't even need platinum, silver will work as a catalyst (that's how jet packs work)

Pulled this massive golden zucchini out of my garden this morning
It’s going to be super delicious
That's a big zucchini
Grill that up.
zucchini under the supervision of electronics and electronic soil control?
Friend had a zucchini plant that was growing tons of giant zucs and taking over the whole pot, so we started calling it “Audrey II”. This year they grew Audrey III from the seeds, same results.
Any help appreciated. I am looking for a simple single white LED wired to a battery that I can use for a small model lighthouse.
you provide the resistor for it right?
My knowledge is very limited. I am assuming so since I need it to be a self contained unit to put in the model.
it's possible to leave out the resistor if using something like a coin cell battery
can you provide more info on size requirement? the most common led is the 5mm dome style
these LED sequins combine an LED with a resistor:
https://www.adafruit.com/product/1758
more info on LEDs in general, including why/what the resistor is all about:
https://learn.adafruit.com/all-about-leds
Product 4891 is very close to what I am looking for. That should be able to fit in my model. No resistor needed correct?
if using PID 4891, correct
look up "LED throwies" as general reference for how this works
(relies on internal resistance of coin cell battery)
it's a very specific hack
in most use cases, there will be a current limiting resistor used in conjunction with the LED
Perfect, that is what I have been looking for "LED throwies". Great starting place. Thank you.
@upper peak a few more items to consider:
https://www.adafruit.com/product/778 (3mm is the next smaller common generic led size)
https://www.adafruit.com/product/5487 (very smol! but also very delicate, no resistor)
Wonderful, Thanks.
My design worked on the first go! I only had to do one mod and then a giant wire mod because a connector isn't coming in time, but it worked!
Just cheesin'

Anyone help with cleaning coins?
There are lots of ways to clean coins, depending on how clean you want them and how much you care about minimum damage (basically, some coin collectors are more careful about rare coins than stuff they just want really shiny). One hotel chain uses clothes washers to clean coins so they shine like new.
Personally Id start with a bath of isopropyl alcohol 90% for a few hours, add water in it (preferably distilled) brush the coin to remove residue. That won't damage the coin except if you don't brush them off (leave a residue) and will make them clean in every sense of the word and remove every bacterias, dirt, and other disgusting substances left on it over the year as well as if there was ever glue on it
what you really want to avoid is acid or base unless you want green pennies
Personally the 1st step was alcohol so I could handle them without having to constantly wash my hand and being extremely careful where I put them
Hey guys, I have some questions about PCB design but I was just wondering what channel I should post in?
Typically #help-with-hw-design would be the right place, iirc
A render of my rocket flight computer PCB, with a banana for scale 😅
Heres some more
Capitalism: because selling a $5 pulley for a motor makes less sense than selling a $165 replacement motor
Spent $165 to replace a pulley because they only sold the motor assembly for my washing machine
Hey guys I bought some stepper motor drivers, but I was given some slightly different ones with a different pinout. I'm wondering, what pin is the motor voltage pin? Is it the one unlabeled pin? I don't want to assume things y'know.
is this for use with an MKS or standalone ?
Well, they're apparently for MKS but I wanted standalone ones. The product says MKS but the images on amazon were not correct, and I just saw the image and bought them lol.
What are the implications of having MKS drivers? I have multiple 3D printers but was looking to use steppers standalone for a project for once.
there seems to be tutorials for 2 of them with that chip
otherwise as a standalone you'll have to figure it out from the datasheet of the new chip
seems like you can forget the old 1.0 chip, different pins etc
yeah I've seen some data about the chip itself, the pinout of the whole board just seems wacky, and I can't find a datasheet for it
seems like the 2.0 version has (better?) or (new?) uart features
yeah, that seems like the change
the chip is from makerbase, was a bit difficult to find
but they use a driver give me a sec
I was just trying to get it started a bit, doing the Vref and all and I realized there's no VMOT or anything
it probably is the unlabeled one, but its just a little suspect lmao
makerbase redirect to this datasheet for the new chip: https://www.trinamic.com/fileadmin/assets/Products/ICs_Documents/TMC220x_TMC2224_datasheet_Rev1.09.pdf
ah yeah, I actually took a look through that document. I'm not the best with datasheets and couldn't fully understand how to translate that chip datasheet into an understanding of this pinout I was given, y'know? Because it's just the chip datasheet right
right, but I couldn't find anything else. the tutorials seems to sucks first thing they do is to put it on a big board like the robin
yeah yeah, and they have some jumpers to denote step resolution (and some uart features?) but I'm just looking to get an okay basis in powering it up, and sending STEP/DIR signals really.
I don't know if its possible to just ignore the UART functionality 🤔
a guess, it is expected to run on 5v vdd for both signal and motor?
it can run at different voltage
if you check the schematic https://github.com/makerbase-mks/MKS-StepStick-Driver/blob/master/MKS TMC2208/MKS TMC2208 V2.0_001/MKS TMC2208 V2.0_001 SCH.pdf and the datasheet on page 9 it seems to be the same as their schematics
but unfortunately the schematic doesn't say which pin on the white back it is
oh, bottom left in the pic
