good to know
I know the name is an acronym for graphics something but why did they have to name it that
GNU Image Manipulation Program
hahaha ๐
Oh wow a nested acronym I guess my assumption about G in the name where wrong.
CPOS
Gravy is my plaything.
Am I late for the CirPyRasPiNoOS stream
Scott is creating a CPOS learn guide ๐
oh - obviously @cinder wind knew what was going on ๐
and HDMI ๐
oh man "CircuitPython" isn't in Scott's spellcheck dictionary?!?
Hahaha!
there was a guide for USB C cables
https://learn.adafruit.com/understanding-usb-type-c-cable-types-pitfalls-and-more
aka "The Great Thing About USB-C is it contains all the protocols!" ๐
that makes sense... USBC cables are a bit of a cluster
PCIE with M2
flameshot screenshot util
11/10
Time to rename the show, "Sketching With Scott".
we are going very deep dive
Just print out the picture, draw on it in red Sharpie, take a picture of that, upload it to the servers. Easy!
just print a picture with Cirtuitpython
This makes me appreciate the work that all the other learn authors go through! ( what a great adafruit team )
"Put some happy little ports over here..."
writing / teaching a great skill to learn alongside all the tech stuff
Hope we can find another timecode take for next week - 'unable' next week.
Thanks @rapid hornet for bringing in the weekend, have a Great Week!
broadcom: What about UART console connection?
I assume USB host-iness is not yet part of the CirPyRasPiNoOS?
Having CirPy on older RasPi Zeros will make them much more fun to play with
you have to add ?preview_token=ivbtB7HY6mZfJMGuHkPz0g to the next pages to see them.. ๐
Totes. USB host is hard
Thank you Scott!
btw FoamyGuy did a great job last week.
Thanks Scott! Thanks notes takers! Have a good weekend all
Thanks!
๐ป
Hello folks ๐ I'm starting up the stream in just moment. Taking another dive into the core for a bit today, and then unboxing a new toy that I am pretty excited about. Hang out here in the chat and follow along on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/foamyguy_twitch or Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qf6RRD11PX0
Bubbles runs on the pi zero 2 W (hdmi).
Now I'm just watching it run.
Got it running on the TFT FeatherWing 3.5 also.
I should try that. I have another PI zero I could use.
It's pretty easy to set up the broadcom (pi 4/pi zero 2) CircuitPython port.
These print to the gdb console?
Erase usually writes all ones. When you write you're just changing ones to zeros.
'\t' is chr(0x09)
Nice!
I'm good, thanks!
I'm excited about this fix, it will allow me to remove a couple of FRAM workarounds ๐
FRAM is on my wishlist.
The FRAMs are great! I used the I2C one, best part is I can reclaim it for something else when this fix is in
That's a great point
I just learned about angle brackets this week.
That's a great use for it
Sounds like a fun game.
My use is much more mundane, I made a macro pad thingy with some arcade buttons and I use it with 2 different computers, so I want it to remember which config to use across boots
Sure! I'll test as soon as it's in the next beta
I think qstrdefsport.h should be excluded from the formatting check.
I think the board.c change is okay.
I think /sd/lib allows you to load libraries from an SD card.
๐ Nice work!
Oh I was just looking at one of those earlier ๐ฎ
Can you use Arduino/CP with those picosystems?
Ah CP, nice
RP2040 support is really spotty on Arduino
CP is just fine for RP2040
I wrote the ArduinoISP sketch. Now I use circuitpython. Now I am happy.
I was about to mention that actually, the parallax backgrounds are nice
I'm not sure about this specific device/environment, but usually you get a VSYNC interrupt just before the screen is about to refresh
That pin is probably related to that somehow
(That's useful for many cool special effects)
Also helps prevent screen tearing
nice ๐ฅณ
Run bubbles on it!
You can use board.DISPLAY
You need adafruit_display_shapes
and adafruit_fancyled
Nice catch!
The rectangle is all the colors in the palette.
Thanks for running it. ๐
I don't know if bubbles travel in herds, but it works.
They wrap left to right.
They move off the top and then back in through the bottom.
If you hit a key it stops. That's a PI zero 2 W requirement.
Ctrl-C doesn't work on the pi.
Cats have priority always.
hotwheel is a gradient, palette_lookup extracts the actual colors.
We have a neighbor cat that is always visiting our house.
Lookup takes 0.0 to 1.0.
https://learn.adafruit.com/fancyled-library-for-circuitpython -- I use it for color gradients.
Adding an accelerometer would be cool. Also letting the bubbles bounce off each other.
I've often wondered how feasible a simple 2D physics engine would be on these beefier MCUs ๐ค
Something like Box2D
Probably the biggest difficulty is lack of native floating point math?
Oh yeah Gorillas is awesome lol
this was one of my favorite games to clone when I was a kid
Yeah! I loved Scorched Earth ๐
That's fun!
The fact that this was in Basic and on like, every DOS computer was awesome
I learned a lot from Gorillas
Oh that's rad!
Very cool idea
Thanks for streaming, and nice work!
Thanks, Tim!
Thank you to all of you as well. Have a good weekend everyone!

I figured out my wakeup issue! I swapped in a newer power supply and it seems to work now. windows didn't wake up either which was a clue. the bad power supply was from 2008
It belongs in a museum!
That psu will be getting its learners permit soon
I want to give a belated thanks to @proper trench for mentioning Advent Of Code on the show the other day! I've worked on it the past two years, but I would have completely missed it without the reference to it during the show! Almost caught up now. And yes, it is really best done in Python!
https://adventofcode.com/
Oh man I'm getting old
what's the word?
purple
bird?
Howdy all
Hi!
Lars. That's the word.
Wait, does this mean it's time for the only electronics show streaming live from within the product page?
I'm finally able to join after a spell away! Good to see y'all ๐
This means that, yes!
!!!
@haughty quiver Those maxkeys blue ocean keycaps are really awesome, nabbed myself a set the other day.
Stream is up on twitch, awaiting bleeps and bloops
/wave
bleeps and bloops are a go!
oh my, what a savings!
We're like Crazy Eddie!
re: "what's the word" - made me think of how the old pee wee's playhouse had the secret word, and then everyone would go crazy when it was said. I think the workshop needs to listen for the secret word and then light up and go crazy when said. Maybe next workshop? ๐
With Prices So Low We're Practically Giving it Away!
Heh, my playback speed is 1.5 from a previous video.
Good afternoon.
Even Neo approves
That's a frighteningly good price.
Is there such a thing?
perhaps not. So far I haven't totally bonded with the mechanical keyboard craze. But I am participating in it
wait
DSA keycaps are probably the "best" since they're all flat without variable curves you'd find in Cherry, SA, or MT3 profiles.
I had already bought many of these parts and arrived this week (minus oled). I had a rotary encoder still
Haven't yet made use of the one from the AdaBox last summer
but the kit at that price was compelling. I have another 30 minutes to order more!
Me too
No just go to product page

50% while this episode airs
let's go!
Strap yourself in, we're launching in T-minus 10 seconds...Destination? A new Class M planet called MACROPAD! M here stands for Microcontroller because this 3x4 keyboard controller ...
I think last week the JPPOTW was only like a $2.50 discount. $25.00 is sweet.
indeed
minus the one I just bought!
Maximum of 10 per customer.
Weekly discount is always 50%. The list price is just cut in half.
I turned mine into a HP-35 vintage calculator
I think lately they have been saying "up to 50% off"
Wait till they sell the new Disney building for amazing savings. ๐ ๐
But if the product is only $5.00 to start, it is hard to justify shipping just to grab the pick of the week.
Buy 10
true about the shipping. I just use first class mail (it comes in 2-3 days) and get the cart to at least $25
I'm 150 miles from NYC so first class mail is pretty reliable and inexpensive
where are you? I'm in Sturbridge, MA
just ordered the macropad!
Patriots!
I already have one
ordered 4 as gifts
nice
I have considered seeing up the macro pad for piping common commands to the Pi controlling my 3D printer
Lock/unlock servos, preheat, home, etc
good idea
Could use the rotary to set temps
Hereโs my code to turn it into a RPN calc- https://github.com/funkfinger/adafruit-macropad-hp-35-calc
Thanks JP! That's a great pick!
Thanks JP!
Thanks @haughty quiver
...but I still need something to hold my plant. :sigh:
also my Staroids game works well on MacroPad https://github.com/todbot/circuitpython_staroids
Thanks all for stopping by!
Thanks JP
do we have any more live shows coming up today?
Nice! Thank you Adafruit Team. Bought some as gifts. Looking for example uses, list of community project links at https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_CircuitPython_MacroPad would be nice. am STW...

@ionic garnet looks like no
question: I got a couple of neosliders this week. I know John covered them. I was looking for a skeleton CircuitPython example since I've never used SeeSaw
I can post something in a few, @ionic garnet
Thank you sir
It's also working with RP2040 in upcoming cpy beta
I'm sure it's simple. I looked at SimpleTest example
Generally the place to go is the Adafruit Learn site: https://learn.adafruit.com/search?q=macropad
the key secret knowledge @ionic garnet is that the analog pin for the slide pot is 18 and the neopixels are on 14 ๐
Ah that does tell me everythng~
Woah, missed the show. That is a FAT discount, though...
@ionic garnet here is a bit of NeoSlider code
Thank you very much @haughty quiver . You are an officer and a gentleman.

Why is the import for sine in a try in the first place? it broke without the sine function right?
is there a way to raise an error if pwmio isn't possible on the speaker pin?
Ok--thank you! (Following along + side projects makes it easy to miss the focus)
https://circuitpython.readthedocs.io/en/7.0.x/shared-bindings/traceback/index.html Looks like it exists?

Might have shared the library before I knew what I was sharing
so try printing: e.__traceback__ there
wait no
I need to read before I type
Haha I am sorry, I had not thought of that at all
Congratulations @smoky island! We've already benefitted greatly from your contributions to the community. Becoming a member of the Adafruit team is well deserved. Looking forward to more of your tutorials and streams.

Thanks for the stream! And congrats ๐ !!!
Thanks all. Have a nice night everyone ๐
I missed the Macropad show, phooey. I love my pad (from Adabox) and at the discount price I probably would have picked up a couple more. It's a thing of beauty. My new job has a password gauntlet to get in, so my NeoTrinky isn't quite up for it. I'll probably program my macropad with all the crap I have to type. (And maybe add the mouse wiggler to boot). For now, I'll live with the Macropad I've got, though.
Just don't program it with passwords!

Lars CSI: "Enhance."
question for y'all: I have these nice enclosures I bought from Amazon that fit a Pico or QT Py or similar. They are plastic. I didn't have the foresight to get or make something to mount the boards into. Can I just find some non-conductive stand-off and hot glue the board carefully? I don't have 3-D printer yet
very slick looking JP
Nylon standoffs might work for that + nylon screws + nylon nuts
I think depending on the hole, it might be m2.5 or m3 sized
Congrats @smoky island !!!
CONGRATS! @smoky island
could hot glue hex standoffs down and then mount on those
congrats @smoky island !
so excited to do some more work with @smoky island !
Dream job!
Congrats @smoky island!
I have any number of RP2040 boards I can use: Pico, QT Py RP2040, Feather, Tiny 2040....

for other options
@strange mantle --- I didn't even know Adafruit carried nylon standoffs! That's awesome -- I make a suggestion and then someone pipes up "Oh hey, we actually carry that exact thing!" ๐
there are a bunch of those nylon m2.5s in a bunch of the 3d printed stuff I make, so handy.
Thank you everyone. Super excited to join this great team! Starting at the beginning of the year I'll be working on CircuitPython every Monday.
like this lamp I was showing
I've tried to get small metric nylon screws and standoffs locally -- nope. None at your big box stores, none at smaller hardware shops, etc. I've hit up your usual online suppliers -- but it's nice to see Adafruit carry them.
liz is so smol today it's crazy

Canadian football (French: football canadien) is a sport played in Canada in which two teams of 12 players each compete for territorial control of a field of play 110 yards (101 m) long and 65 yards (59 m) wide attempting to advance a pointed oval-shaped ball into the opposing team's scoring area (end zone).

Thanks for taking time for us
technically, Canadian football differs from American football in the same ways as do Canadian bacon and American bacon.
I could talk for hours about it if you ever have any questions! ๐
I love my Peameal bacon, only in Canada!
Oh I get it now. Canadian vs US pigskin/pork products. They use maple syrup on the football there I guess.
That makes it Millionaire's football.

Greetings.
Good afternoon
My word, there is rain here in LA, I'm kinda freaking out a bit!
Lol. It rains where I am all the time. ๐ง๏ธ
"big" rain or just misty?
just drizzly-ish stuff so far
Drizzly is for the bears...
Good afternoon.
Get it? Like grizzly but wet.
Bear-ly
Hello bears and people etc.
Don't let Lars get wet. Who knows what will happen.
Happy Thursday!
Bring on the parsec!
Mmmm. Hot tea.
That's amazing @lavish patrol
Trying to watch the workshop from AOL BBS.
Yikes!
I'll have to bounce early for other obligations, but it's nice to be around to make at least part of the show ๐
This JPPPotW was bonkers good!
Now with my MacroPad I can build my Heathkit Hero Robot clone!
FizzBuzz in neopixels. ๐ค
I'd totally watch a Lars cartoon.
Ineffectively evil like Marvin the Martian, but instead of an "Earth-Shattering-Kaboom", Lars just gnaws on someone's leg.
Lol. I can do one frame, but not 30/sec. ๐ค ๐
at least not drawing in realtime
We'd have to do a few keyframes, then automate the rest ๐
add a sleep in the loop to get a nice incrementing lighting effect
Lars is better in live action...
I couldn't convince him that he should call it "JEP-Boy"
you know larsboy 2040 could be next evolution of pipboy
LARS-Boy.
andy you have made that conversion so it could work
The semi-exposed look is cool.
I like using the threaded inserts as an aesthetic "knob" feature
could make them capsense touch buttons maybe
Lars ate the alligator clips.
Lol
Lars-Boy 2040 could be great on that microcontroller one
ahah alligator clips are great

QUESTION: Are the terminal strips on the PLC plug-in style?
Do any of you have a hard time when feeling like your are using a MCU that is more power full then you need and end up with anxiety about what MCU to use in your project because you don't want to not have one available if you need it?
Question: Would it be possible to switch to a non plastic based packing tape the next time you need to order tape for your shipping department? I like to use cardboard for my garden where I can, and paper tapes are so much easier to work with because they do not have to be removed first.
Question for later: Any recommendations for a good, in-stock "starter kit" as a gift for a friend who's teaching themselves coding? I'm hoping to find a good "not-an-electronics-nerd-yet" starter kit to help a fellow 40-something transition into a coding career on her own terms.

THANKS ALL
Thanks !
Thanks for making the show happen, even on a Thursday!
Thanks! ๐
Thanks, good night!
@fair fulcrum I'd build with what I have today, and try to live in the moment.
thank you!
It's easy for me, too, to find reasons to delay a project while looking at options.
@fair fulcrum I recently set aside getting BLE to work on Raspberry Pi, and will use an ItsyBitsy nRF52840 with the Pi for BLE. Could save weeks of work, for a few extra dollars.
Thank you @open girder
im so good about living in the moment on so may other parts of my life and yet when it comes to consuming stuff (even digital stuff like a healing potion in a video for crying out loud) i have a hard time consuming it myself. YET, if someone needed that consumable, i would not hesitate to pass it on to someone else. my head is broken....
Nodding and offering hugs.
๐ฅฐ
@fair fulcrum Another thing I do when I'm blocked like that, is work on a smaller piece of the project. Any piece. Even for just an hour.
@fair fulcrum What are you making?
right now i am working on an LED controller for the soft top in my truck so when i camp out of the bed I can control the brightness and color, to keep night vision good or have high visibilty

Have you made a quick and dirty prototype yet?
not yet, i have been working on the mounting design first and wiring, then i was going to move on to the controls
yep =^-^=
i have 3 more revisions already in the pipeline of the mounting brackets that i still have to print and see what other changes i wana make lol those are like rev 3
nope not yet
but definitly planned!
Would be great to see your work in progress on Show and Tell!
i make it on there on avarage once a year. even though i would love to do it more ><;;;; lol
I'd love to see a video of it temporarily mounted on the truck!
I've never shown something on there, yet, even though I make quite a bit of stuff. Mostly because a lot of it has been for clients, and sort of confidential.
yea, i know how that is.
But now I'm freelancing for a bit, so I may just have to jump on there. Planning things like that helps me get stuff done.
i have SOOO many projects i want to do or finish but they all take so long because i just lack experience to do some of the things efficiently or figure out the finishing touches to make it really feel polished.

the thing that I still have nagging me on the project of the light you saw was that i never went back and fixed my technical debt of making the controls more responsive when the light was moving really slow
besides that, I am really proud of it.

Hello Scott
Hi Scott - got a ? on the nrf52 bootloader and where/who should set the bootloader config regarding the CRC check and setting the bit for "app valid" bit in the bootloader config register of the nrf52xxx Should it be done at the bootloader and set it to assume a good app? or should it be done at the application level where the crc might be computed and flashed at the same time as the application. Perhaps Thach would know more...

Oh that's just the list I've been looking for!
I agree 100%. When I finally bought a Saleae a few years ago it paid for itself in saved time immediately.
I think I bought most of those items over the last year while watching this stream
you know you are a deep diver when you have most of the things on the list ๐
I didn't think about the inline switch but that is a great idea. It's going in my next order.
I'd half forgotten about it but when I got the JLink EDU mini somehow I ordered two. If someone watching now needs one (and preferably is in north america) let me know I can send you one (product https://www.adafruit.com/product/3571)
without fail.. work call right at 2pm on Friday ...
have you tried the logic analyser feature/pins on the PPK2?
The PPK is already on my list for my next order.
agreed - don't estimate or assume - measure the power and SEE when power jumps up/down. I had the original PPK and the PPK2 is so much better
The Analog Devices ADALM1000 is also a nice option for power measurements.
Using the IT Crowd fix everything solution? lol
That would help new people with the contributor learning curve a lot !
Thanks for the detour, a good few of those are on my short list but it's nice seeing them again to make it more worthwhile to grab!
What are you doing that those items are on your desk? (Just kind of trying to see if I am trying to tackle similar issues)
is there a power switch for usbA to USBC
besides everything in deep dives, or summarizing them I guess?
Ah that makes sense! I have a soldering station on a separate desk, and that sliding scale between 'programming' desk and 'soldering desk' is kind of how I choose what to buy first
Oh you've talked about the Salea before ...
https://github.com/adafruit/deep-dive-notes/search?q=salea
I use those rubbery sticky pads that are for holding your phone on a dsahboard to hold things still on my desk when working on them (not soldering) and also they hold usb hubs on my desk nicely.
I got a Salea after Scott's recommendation and it is amazingly easy to learn to use
What drives the WS2812 ? Is it just an IO pin + power ?
Dang missing the show again. Sleep schedule strikes again. Thanks for putting it on :)
@clear matrix 's LED guides are awesome !
I enjoy them!
When do you send people to readthedocs? for what reason/purpose exactly? learning guide is really useful but I found myself that I go to RTD regularly when I want to see how to call/use specific modules.
i have a digilent digitaldiscovery which works well for me in debugging logic signals
For me I go to RTD if there's a specific detail that's not in the guide. Not that helpful of an answer but that's what I do. RTD isn't a bad place to start either, or to use in conjunction with the guide.
I think of it like this ...
Learn Guides: Tutorials
RTD: Language Reference
Adafruit Discord: Stackoverflow for nice people
Is this library bit banging the protocol?
I have seen people use I2S for that too.
i think fastled uses the i2s peripheral on the esp32.
@rapid hornet I'll help with notes
yeah, always stop all interrupts, they're not useful for anything anyway /s
Guides typically cover the most common functions, and the most common arguments for those functions. So anything beyond that, RTD is the best option. Ideally, RTD also has examples as well, but not every library is as well documented as, say, CircuitPlayground.
yeah I wish we could go back in time and put PIO in the SAMD and other popular chips
And the RP2040 is cheap and relatively available. They don't go into cars and appliances...
"Good" data sheets exist? ๐
I always thought the Atmel datasheets (pre-Microchip) were really good
Most of the microcontroller ones I have looked at are actually decent. Random sensor chips on the other hand...
Got to go! Have some great holidays and a happy new year folks!
word wrapping? you need that oddly tilted ultrawide for maximum line length ๐

that's pretty cool that Saleae logic analyzer has neopixel format capture now. gotta go dig mine up now and update the software

Starting up this mornings stream in just a moment. Working on the PYOA library, then jumping into core to try to add features to TileGrid. Hang out here in the chat and follow along on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/foamyguy_twitch or Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LlbDf-4Fsg
Audio good on YT. PYOA sounds like fun.
ctrl+d, never knew that
always just restarted
what is your first project? what will they have you working on?
Hey Tim!
I do a lot of programming with streams in c#. really convenient, code always loooks the same regardless of if the data is in memory or in a file.
And as long you only read forward, data can even be a network stream
So the Hypercard was hard to read as well? ๐
You have a spammer in the YT chat. Try hiding him sthis time.
I reported it as well.
Ha, it really looks as bad as the original!
Morning all! I'm just here briefly before I head out but hope everyone's well!
I'm going to head out, and what a bummer it's right as you're jumping into the core stuff! I'll have to rewatch this later tonight. Have a good one!
Hey Tim - a new spammer in YT.
Have you tried a cold restart on the pyportal?
The FeatherWing TFT 3.5 is a little flaky, not in the same way.
I'll try to reproduce it on the pybadge.
You need to remove new spam in YT before you end the stream.
Haven't seen that kind of spam in the live streams I am a moderator of.
You could mod me so I can take care of it for you. ๐
I have no idea, I have never done any live streams.
Seems to be working on the pybadge.
Board ID:pybadge```
Auto-reload isn't working. I don't have problems with vectorio or display shapes.
When I change code.py and save it nothing happens (it doesn't restart)
I'm running bubbles.py, or vectorio_shapes.py.
The new animation is a fun one.
I'm trying the first non-working build next.
Now running Adafruit CircuitPython 7.1.0-beta.1-17-g8cf269d2a on 2021-12-01; Adafruit Pybadge with samd51j19
auto-reload isn't working on that one.
Auto-reload works on 7.1.0-beta.1-14-gfea0103ff.
I'll comment on the issue with my pybadge results.

Hey everyone!
Hey @ornate coyote
i was thinking like back wen like x86 processors before the Pentium 3 had L2 cache external?
Right, but this is not cache - it's fully addressable RAM.
And it's not slow... it's just not as fast as SRAM ๐ Def fast enough to do most things on a microcontroller.
interesting
Ok so I bought that MCP2221A breakout as my first foray into micro python, I was really after a simple I2C board. It's now several months later and it turns not everything required to get this to work is showing on its product page. This device needs a dedicated USB driver to be seen. Can anyone help?
I'm kind of shocked the USB driver isn't listed on the product page as a 'must have'
This information is available in the guide in learn.adafruit.com at the bottom of the product page.

@rapid hornet, thanks a lot, I can dig into all the magewell range but which magewell model are you using ? the ZV-1 is your facecam, right ?
It is a Magewell USB Capture HDMI Plus. Correct. Cat cam is a C920. The overhead is a HoverCam Ultra 8. The Magewell and HoverCam were recommended by phil.

MmmmmmARGhhhhhh... I already have one I'm not using. Do I need another (even at half price)?
Now that was a slapback echo for the ages
I need one. Have many feathers and many CPX/BF
Howdy @haughty quiver
must have had a secret stash as they showed out of stock prior to the stream
I'll leave this for someone who NEEDS one, not just wants one. Really tempting though.
bought two one to give to someone else
I had one in my digikey cart but bought here now in stock
and half price
yay
I have at least a dozen Feathers
I wonder what the other drawers are filled with
toys in the attic
Can I use it to drive a 12V LED strand?
you'd probably need to connect ground but drive the 12v separately. But I am guessing
Also super handy for AT projects - screw terminals -> 3.5mm jacks
Made a PCB adapter to mount a PyGamer or PyBadge to the Crickit FeatherWing. Super for robots.
Whoa, that's amazing!
grrr, out of stock while checking out
I think the Crickit is a brilliant product. Perfect for how I tend to experiment with many, many things. I've got Feather's with WiFi, BLE, M4, RP2040 and the whole shebang
That is awesome!
Oh wow. I just completed my purchase 2 mins ago
... available on OSH Park: https://oshpark.com/shared_projects/DxtJkU02
One of the best things is that it doesn't use ANY of the pins on the feather. It's all I2C so you're not going to conflict with any of the GPIO etc.
Out of stock...
I think it started with 32 or something
I had bought some but left the screen on submit order. Almost missed it
@haughty quiver please tell them to make more. Sold out. I got a couple but have since thought of 6 more I could have used. Maybe as many as 50.
yeah, was checking out and went out of stock ๐ข
Don't forget the sinking outputs - they can often be used as a replacement for a switch or relay
I'm serious about the 50. In fact, let's talk Adafruit!
is there any difference between this version and the circuit playground version?
just in the connectors
The Crickit is an amazing desktop tool for prototyping. Very handy.
so basically the same, except the connection (CPX vs feather), correct?
What does it mean, 'seesaw only' (by the usb port)?
@drowsy inlet the one for the micrbit is awesome. I haven't used the one for the Raspberry Pi yet.
the USB port doesn't "pass through" to the microcontroller.
"seesaw" is the I2C software that runs ON the crickit... it doesn't connect to the feather's USB
am i able to purchase the one on the wall of products at the discount price? ๐
you only need to use the USB port if you are trying to updated the firmware on the seesaw chip that is on the Cricket device.
It's there to update the actual microcontroller that lives on the Crickit board itself
Thank you JP for a good year
@haughty quiver Happy Holidays and thanks for cool stuff over 2021!
Thanks JP!
thanks for taking time for us
happy crickitmas everyone
Thanks @haughty quiver! Happy Holidays!
Yes, thank you all so much for coming to the show! I'll see you all tomorrow night on Show & Tell and again on Thursday for my Workshop show.
Just a thought - if there is a Crickit 2.0 in the works... replacing the sinking outputs w/true solid state relays would be awesome and adding a STEMMA-QT port (or two) would be huge ๐
@pearl shoal Well, you COULD use a Relay FeatherWing (latching/nonlatching). Maybe even on a Feather trippler?
Of course, but there is no solid state relay wing so you need more power, and the space is on the board for the sinking outputs... replacing the FETs with SSRs wouldn't take too much room (or cost) and would let you switch signals that weren't active low. That would make AT projects much easier
We have a Stemma QT board that exposes a two-channel SSR - it works great. But it's custom and a separate board.
It's all good - I love the Crickit, just adding my $.02
