On a walk I go!
Wanted to update you on my 3D printed keycap saga: I definitely recommend printing with the stem up XD even on this printer with a magic glass bed it had issues with the stem down. As for fit, this literally falls off a Gateron Red or Blue switch's stem, but firmly fits Kailh Boxx Whites. Difference between point to point on the + of the stem vs. my Glorious Aura keycaps is 0.1mm (4.2mm for printed, 4.1mm for the Aura). I'm going to try scaling it down a tiny bit to compensate

Hmm... Printed 0.3mm instead of 0.1mm, and while it isn't as smooth, obviously, it still looks good, but actually stays on Reds
But it's crooked
0.1mm is straight
DSA keycap is straight on reds
Printing at 0.1mm 97.62% scale
I may go crazy and get a 0.1mm nozzle so I can do like, 0.025mm layerheight :O
97.62% 0.1mm fits perfectly on Reds
Very snug on Kailh Boxx Whites, but still good. The 100% version is easily removed on those

Hmm... Well, when I get my Ender 3 Pro working again and find the 0.4mm nozzle for that, I'll give that a whack. Really loving the Ender 3 V2's glass -- it's not plain glass, but it's like magic

The value_count is used determine how many bits to use, eg 1,2,4,8,16. So If it selects 4 bit you can use up to 2^4 colors

If you request value_count = 5, it will use 4 bits which is 16 colors.
Value_count=2 is 1 bit which is two colors
The bits are used for the Bitmap constructor in shared-module, it doesn't know the value_count

uint32_t height, uint32_t bits_per_value) {
Yeah, looking at the Palette code it only stores the amount of requested colors, so there is a disparity between Bitmap and Palette. The docs need clarified.

I'd guess for every point you add just check if the x/y is bigger/smaller then a stored min/max value
and yeah the displays only redraw what they require (from trying to debug a display driver read the spec sheet)

Ever have the problem that wire just spills off its spool? I had this especially with some spools of wire I ordered from Adafruit, the 8-color "wire wrap" wire assortment (75x30) and the silicone-covered stranded wire (30x25).
Enter these holders: Feed the wire out the little slot, then snap the whole spool in. Snug, but still ready to access at...
Inspired by @chardane on Twitter I set out to make some keycaps for the Adadfruit MacroPad that had excellent shine-through of the LEDs and also made as much of the plate PCB's artwork visible as possible.
Unlike @chardane's design, the key is a single piece; there's no additional layer of plexiglass to glue in.

Oh, keeb question: I'm building a custom split keeb with the NeoKey Ortho Snap-Aparts, and will have a couple different sections. Would there be a performance difference between, say, having letter keys and the numpad be a separate key matrix for each vs. all being in one matrix? Also, I snapped my orthos up while forgetting that they zig-zag, so my layout ended up with some rows going the same direction -- can I just reverse those rows in the NeoPixel part of the matrix?

@teal river remember if you flip them 180 degrees that the pins are not straight across anymore. It should be possible to scan two key matrices but if it doesn't work talk to us on help-with-circuitpython or file an issue -- it may not be tested.

Somebody said the "read" function was used to determine whether a [phone] had read what the MCU had written, but the line of code appears to be checking whether the MCU reads back the same thing it wrote to the chip.

Iโd have to look at the data sheet, but I imagine the comparison only checks against the value of the eeprom and what was written or being written

So we are back to checking whether the "scavenging" pin is high.
Although I believe some chips keep an index of how many times they have been read. So the MCU could read and if the number is higher by more than one then something else read it in between.
Guess I'm going to have to read the datasheet.
Itโs configured over I2C so you should be able to read the various registers on the chip
Including the number of times the chip and been read
There is a GPIO pin which indicates when there is RF activity.
There is also a Fast Transfer Mode where the i2c and RF can communicate through a RAM buffer without having to store stuff to EEPROM. With an appropriate app, I assume.
So a wireless data cable is possible.

Oh, question! I screwed up snapping my Orthos apart making a split keyboard, forgot they were zig-zagged, so now I have rows that are all out on one side -- do I just need to not zig-zag numbers in my NeoPixel matrix for the keypad?

that said, we have regular logs that are anonymized, etc. and folks do go to adafruit.com after watching vids, we're able to determine that without invasive tracking
