It's crazy how easy ML is now
such a fun demo
To get started, lol
I miss Fey Da bakery in nyc ๐
Doctor Cinnamon Bakery
I wish I could get up and walk around every 15 minutes while working XD
There are precisely zero (negative zero) bagel shops in my town.
I don't know of any bagel shops around here
I have to drive 20 minutes to get a corporate shop bagel.
Going to go ahead and guess that "Einstein Brothers" isn't a "Bagel shop" to most folks

18 was my first adabox. The unboxing wasโฆ very pleasing. I felt the love.
Q: how many things can that Lobe kit w/ Raspberry pi setup learn to recognize?

Adabox18 was my first by subscription, but I ordered an Adabox15 right before I got 18!
You always have something to look forward to, every day.
I loved the video looking into the ESP32S2
AdaBox 015 was pretty sweet. Bet ur gonna really enjoy it. ๐
We heard you like chips...
These de-capping videos are soooooooo addictive
Whats better, starting the day with a nice warm coffee, or Colins soothing voice explaining interesting things?
I was a fool for not clicking subscribe on 17
I had a minor mishap with mine XD
Both.
I wish my meters would beep, lol
His voice is indeed very soothing
I have all 18. Had to buy off subscription the first two.
18 makes me want to swap my openHAB2 for HA as intendedโฆ
Nice. I didn't realize they were limited time things... I missed out on most of them as a result DX
What would a curve tracer do with a fuse?
My Zwave devices are resistant to discovery
Antenna design can be such a deep deep hole to go down
I stumbled on a beat up Adabox001 at Microcenter
Science!
I think I was working at Micro Center when 001 came out? but I didn't pay much attention because it was relatively expensive and I had no muns DX
the wroom-da is interesting antenna design
Neopixels can be temperature sensors ๐ค really bad temperature sensors
lol
Jorbs!
Wait, we can post skills? :O
Evil Mad Scientist needs to open a location on the east coast XD
paranoia strikes deep
West coast needs some love too. Just sayin.
West coast has a bunch of cool jobs already XD
Adafruit IO is the easiest way to get your projects onto the Internet of Things!
I think we all agree.
CircusPython
My M.S. is from RPI. Before that was a fruit.
CircusPython? is that really an actual code type?
I do like purple lady with Scott snek and Scott with purple snek
Q: can I pull off purple hair?
Nah, I'm just a little hard of hearing.
Question for Ladyada: had you seen my dumb project of trying to turn a defective Slider Trinkey into an OLED Trinkey, and is a real OLED Trinkey in the works at all?
I dyed my wifes hair purple this week!
Me wants OLED trinket matrix bam bam
Thing!
Now if we could just make it run on this!
sounds a good plan
I stand correction.
sweet HP calculator
Deep meditation with awesome boards.
so satisfying to see a machine make machines
I could loop these factory footage videos infinity and never leave the matrix
lol
Solder fountains are justโฆ perfection
A dab will do ya.
Disney?!
Lol, used to love working with the liquid solder back at a temp job I had. Used to floor me every time. :-0
I remember when I was program manager but also ran automated testing for 1500 units per day. Fun times. No job too small.
No PIR so I plugged a NeoPixel ring in instead.

Sounds like "OMRON" is today's secret word!

I think that's the cable (in Micro format) that came with the PyPortal!
i love the micro b versions of this cable so i'm hyped for the c version

Was really nice till mine died. ๐
But Poe+ is even moar poweeeeeerrrrrrr
and you always know it has data
The micro B version is so handy
RJ-45 Terminal Block to Ethernet Socket Adapter https://www.adafruit.com/product/4981
@split gazelle SO TRUE. My goodness, I only buy cables from Adafruit or from a trusted seller like Anker -- if I care about it having data, being rated for the right power draw, not going to melt into a pile of slag and release
, etc ๐
anidees Black Extra High Raspberry Pi 4 Case https://www.adafruit.com/product/5040
Omg. You had me at terminal block. Those are sooooooo useful
But do buy ferrules and a proper crimp tool!
That acrylic cover will help contain the magic blue smoke!
absolutely. even for my midi stuff it's basically all pink and purple cables because so much other stuff could be going wrong ๐

Sometimes, it's more "Dare an Engineer" than "Ask an Engineer"
I've got some 22awg 1ft sabrent cables I've been using for a while, they feel so thick. Definitely tossing that fancy colorful one in my Adafruit cart though
Lol! I'm loving this "BAD IDEA" ๐
@open girder product request ferrule crimp tool and ferrules
We're engineers because someone dared us.
Ya! it worked, now will it ever work again?
"This is a bad idea" is also code for "Wanna see something cool?"
Wondering where that pen tip went
Does it matter? Rock on!
Nordic nRF-PPK2 - Power Profiler Kit II - Power Measurement Tool https://www.adafruit.com/product/5048
Super handy!
I think Scott's used a PPK on a Deep Dive or three.
Cool to see you're stocking the ppk2, not sure I have an excuse to buy it right now, but believe me I'm tempted
This is hands-down an excellent board. I wish there were more higher end tools at that price point.
Release the smoke!
DO NOT RELEASE THE MAGIC SMOKE
I believe it, my MagTag battery life improves every time I update it

I am going to buy

yessssss been waiting for the 1x4 ๐
I wish I could order that now XD

I-IV-V-I for days
of course ๐บ
That's a lot of keys without ever thinking about a matrix
Have a question for LadyAda. How does she feel about using the Fritzing application to map out a project for a beginner?
Four is enough for any cat.
I wish I could get the NeoKey 1x4 DX
Question for the show-- The NRF PPK2 comes with a few cables, can you make a cable kit for the PPK2? 4-pin DuPont connector to Batter JST for connecting a Feather. 4-pin DuPont connector also to Alligator clips, to Jumper wire, to USB breakout
is it called trINKey?
Heh, Slider Snail is groovin'
I'll call it snailder
Trinkey slider snail... Slinkey?
eink trinky --- hopefully the mascot is an octopus
Inky trinkey
Squid
Oh here's a question: what's the advantage of the community Arduino core for the rp2040 vs the official mbed-based one?
I use MS paint and Notepad for a lot of things, lol
(fritzing is free again?)
There are some really rad graphics & art tools inside powerpoint that make complex things really easy ๐ Use what makes you happy.
I did not know Fritzing was free :O
Q: How can Supplyframe be worth $700 million?!?!?!
Q: not if seen at same time, but how many things can that Lobe kit w/ Raspberry pi setup learn & recognize?
Is there an option if I am interested in recreating a piano keyboard?
I think they ask for a donation for download from the site, but it's available from a number of package managers - Homebrew, Chocolatey, Apt, etc
I feel like the breadboard visualisation part of Fritzing could be spun off into a separate project/app, for documentation and visualisation
The gold on the door of the FunHouse is a big thermal ground, right?
Foamyguy mentioned that the 1-eyed avatar was made in PowerPoint!
well I'm out
Question for live: does adafruit sell any lubia hats for raspi 4
Question for Ladyada: had you seen my dumb project of trying to turn a defective Slider Trinkey into an OLED Trinkey, and is a real OLED Trinkey in the works at all?
Oh it didn't occur to me to try a windows package manager. The Debian packages are super old
Thanks - interesting.
Question for the show... I know it's not out yet. any update on the iPod like click wheel you are working on? HUge interest here, excited for the release ๐
@tame dew https://arcarc.xmission.com/PDF_Arcade_Atari_Kee/Tempest/Tempest_DP-190-2nd-03B.pdf via http://www.andysarcade.de/tempest.html -- it's not serial so I'm not sure "baudrate" is the right question
English/German Page about Arcade Games. Deutsch-/Englischsprachige Seite รผber Videospielautomaten.
Yep, pretty sure it's the latest version in both Chocolatey and Scoop
Thanks for the info on Fritzing. Was reading it was essentially a dead project.
Fritzing: Version 0.9.6 was released on February 22, 2021.
I thought it was like $7 donation, worth it
I'll certainly publish if it works XD I've learned how to build CircuitPython, lol
Current fritzing is pay for precompiled, or download the source and build your own
I have been epically failing at finding this! Thank you @robust horizon
Question for ladyada: how could I connect a rasberry pi 4 to my lubia machine
hm it says clk and dir so it may not actually be quadrature
Now if I could only remember the name of the game I really wantโฆ spinner with space shipsโฆ and then you fly to a planet for the boss confrontationโฆ.
Rp2040 Arduino core, why community instead of mbed?
Thanks @open girder and good night. ๐
@open girder Thanks for another awesome evening of shows!
Thanks Ladyada
thanks for a great evening of shows!

That little heater is so awesome! SO want one!
Leave it to me to want the game nobody else played. Uniqueness is fun!
star trek had a rotary controller https://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=9770 but I don't think you went to a planet. star wars you went down to the death star but that's not a planet and it's not a rotary controller... hm
I missed it - which game?
It was sprites, not vector. But like tempest meets galaga until the planet boss
I canโt remember or find the name @autumn turret
I like sprites
That makes it harder to try and figure out where to find it :/
I only remember 1 arcade game that had a rotary knob, which was Arkanoid. Probably one of my faves of all time
Anxiety attack over lack of search skills and flushed cache
there were some wild games back in the day. you can search by input type on this site, only a few dozen rotary optical encoder games
Nice one @robust horizon
You can do thing! Just takes practice! I was anxious over trying to build CircuitPython, but I just jumped headlong into it and had a tonne of support from the awesome folks here :D

But if it was a Vector based system, and not just a game, the one that comes to mind is Vectrex
It was not vector. It had to be mid 1980โs. I WILL find it.

The game uses two Z80 microprocessors, one 6809 microprocessor, and one 8039 microprocessor. For sound it uses five AY38910 PSGs and a DAC.
My memory fooled me! It was a joystick, not a spinner. Clockwise-counterclockwise
Old-school cabinets are amazing
I would love to build one.

One of my fave songs is called Cabinet Man by Lemon Demon. Story of someone who frankensteins themself into an arcade machine. If interested, here's a fan animatic with the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOiYDzLNkcU&t=4s
My final for Storyboarding this year, I'm proud with how it all turned out and hope it does the song justice!
"Cabinet Man" by Lemon Demon, the rest is by me.
EDIT: Had to reupload because Youtube wouldn't let me fix a color error without doing so, since it is after all a garbage website.
I love Lemon Demon

Could WaveFile play slices of an audio file?
I think I have a project to show when I'm at least in prototyping stage XD
Philosophical answer to "where to start learning to build robots" -- start small, with lights and basic programming and stuff, then add moving bits and keep learning!
Or go with the Clue + Crickit
play(wavefile, offset,duration)
Start small, start cheap, start with something that has a strong community following. <-- How to "start" with almost anything.

bold move using non-ASCII for wireless device names
Oh, Scott, I learned how to build CP since the last show!

RickRoll?
It was for naught, my Slide Trinkey can't do I2C with the pins exposed XD but I learned!
I wasn't watching for your passcode, lol
As long as it isn't your bank PIN you're probably okay
Is it just me, or is YouTube fuzzy?
I saw that, but what about bitbangio ?

I haven't looked into it, but danh said the pins accessible can not do I2C
Yay, I'm in!
Hallo!
@teal river hey!
Welcome to best chat :D
There's a default blue Led for BLE connection : blink = not bonded, still = bonded...
I need an LED acrylic cap for my FunHouse, lol
Thanks, I think I will be around often
Was the feather already paired ? If yes, it should appear in bluetooth devices ?
I know that some scanner doesn't show devices that are already paired.
is it android (Locations services activated)? BLE does not need to be paired or yes?
i meant "bonded", sorry.
Raining in Seattle? That never happens
Print statements are the ultimate form of debugging
Did you test that -40 value with real distance ?
TN rant towell?
Maybe go to -20, see if it works, if it does, bounce lower and higher to find a minimum?
Rant won't tell.
Seems that -40 (db) is in fact remapped to -30dB. We can test return value : https://developer.nordicsemi.com/nRF51_SDK/nRF51_SDK_v8.x.x/doc/8.1.0/s110/html/a01288.html#ga0f1931af876bef39520c58de5ac060ca
oh, right. nRF52 can put -40db as tx power. But we still can read return value of setting tx power..
Oh, low tech solution to know if the thing in your hand is the one you're bonding to: broadcast a serial number, then have the serial number on the device
I'm wearing noise cancelling headphones to block outside traffic noise. And I hear a passing car from Scott's stream.
Before I realize where it's coming from, I'm wondering: "How loud is that traffic? Sheesh! You're coming through active noise cancelling for cryin' out loud..."
Then...."oh. right."
I use Plateform.io and simply use the console to output some message for each block...
Scott's stream car goes brrrr
RIP Feather
that happens sometime. disconnect usb ane reconnect
Had to give up nose cancelling headphones, made me look like Voldemort.
I thought I had killed my zombie Slide Trinkey last night, lol

In my experiment, I had 30s timeout/disconnect : when no data where transmitted in tha delay, connection was dropped...
[I look away for one minute --- and they come out of the woodwork.]
Are you calling them mice @waxen thistle, or saying you're a cat?
This could be the basis of a Pixar film.
I thought I was the only cat
<-------
squint ohhh... I thought that was a squid...
Can you show/measure rssi on mobile side, so you can then adjust tx power ?
because if -80db is quite too low I think for phone to decode messages.
One of the best things from adafruit -- https://learn.adafruit.com. This is a project database that's absolutely amazing, highly curated purpose-built projects that have a strong community following. And it's 100% free to access. No need to be a customer to access the schematics, code, project plans, etc.
418 I'm a teapot.
Then is Tx power is default (0) you should be able to measure rssi @ 1m then compute db reduction to reduce than distance...
But have you ever seen the rain? ๐ต
Having the ability to access the code at any time, from any computer without a toolchain is a pretty powerful feature too, for wearables and stuff like that for example
or for a person who you developed the code for, to modify it and tinker with it, or a product like the Winterbloom Big Honking Button
BHB FTW!
I've been debugging a Python Chatbot.... and I've switched all the example libraries to CP, which has made it way easier...
Circuitpython can also manipulate files. C++/Arduino is harder for that, I think
Yes, I switched from Youtube to Discord ๐

@sudden slate No need to be sorry, happily added ๐
I was awake and forgot this rendez-vous.
So you are connected in BLE... then how is your board powered? You plug the USB but it is already powered another way? What is your scenario?
Frequent backups are important.
You already have a "fight" between OS and CP that could write to the filesystem... and you decided it is one or the other. Now you add BLE?
disconnect the ble
This may be WAAAAYYYY to out there, but having a host "process" running on the device, which "presents" to the OS over USB, BLE, etc, but is just a proxy. That process is what handles reads & writes
USB data win... USB power is not doing anything.
would it be difficult when connected to serial, let the serial win and disconnect the ble
There is the Android way of avoiding concurrent access to flash from the phone and the connected host.
They implemented a microsoft "zune" protocol or something like that.
No problem ๐
BLE is the same as user code (more or less).
It is hard to tell that there must be user code to make the file system read-only (for the host) to let BLE work.
Now you're good again
YouTube did a dumb and set you to 480p for me earlier
Do you need to serve files throught usb ?
Cut write access from BLE. But can I continue to read?
that sounds clean
Would that "flush and disconnect" for BLE only be for file transfers?
I thought your mouse pointer on the YouTube chat was a bug and almost smacked my iPad DX
And I have destroyed all my power only microUSB cable... and now I need some!
USB DATA, not power
If you plug in a power only cable then the BLE should be the winner
yes otherwise it may be a fight.
Depends the OS.... Windows want to control file drive...
there is power only usb cables too
I just made adapters that are male A on one side and female A on the other, pass only power lines
So now a user would need to be sure to use power-only USB? It's already a struggle for support from the sounds of it
I think he's on Ubuntu...
That makes it maybe harder for folks who have just a phone/tablet to work from
Ok if my usercode set the flash to read-only (for the potential host) and I plug USB, will it stop write from BLE?
Just be careful when flipping the switch -- some devices don't play nicely having their data line evaporate into the aether.
Yes, but the feather is active...
its safer to charge your device on like in public charging place
so it write on its own on the flash memory..
I'm also thinking of people who might power their CP device from their tablet, but work over BLE for any number of reasons
That ruined a Feather.... I think for me
I don't remember if it was a Feather or a Thing Plus
that's why Windows can't be owner/manager of mass storage...
its almost like when you have a laptop with wifi and ethernet, once ethernet is connected the wifi is disabled otherwise it caused problems.
and there an interface (webdav/file server).
Youtube is messing up today!
so one solution is usb network + webdav...
@sudden slate I make no promises, but if it was a feather, it might be worth running past the fine folks over on the adafruit support forums at https://forums.adafruit.com -- they might have some troubleshooting techniques to see if the feather is recoverable (depending on your skill level, tools available, etc).
And that is why Android is doing that extra protocol.
I'm on youtube its stable and clear
No it is not on a smart tv
+1 for David.G
Hmmm
Oh, I fixed it with a new power regulator
No USB drive on CP sounds strange :O
Ok, then you need to stop user program using flash memroy...
Time? When we're going, we don't need time!
I think it might be regional server issues. They've been cutting stream quality all over recently
@sudden slate Awesome, glad you were able to repair it ๐
I've never used MicroPython... or regular Python
๐
I'm just learning
Aren't we all?
I just started learning CircuitPython like 2 weeks ago, lol
And now I can build custom CP!
But... that's C!
... That explains why it looked so familiar
lol
I've been doing C/C++/C# forever, lol
I am sorry
C# for life paycheck!
Micropython has switched to a filesystem that is more robust I believe ?
Why sorry? It's ezpz XD
I like the C family more than BASIC, Fortran and COBOL
I use Arduino most of the time, but I'm starting to use Circuit Python more and more
I just have problems with the libraries sometimes
Yeah, me too
I'mma start learning regular Python for web and application stuff...
C++ for the~~ future~~ past
lol
Connected was the working title for the awesome movie The Mitchells Vs. The Machines
You can hang out on Foamyguy's streams for that. He'd been doing some CP work, but lately, he was working on the DesignIO web app which is Django, MQTT, etc
Is CP running on this MicroPython board? Or can I use Blinks?
Blinks? Blinka?
Blinka
Is Scott thinking about a questions that's been asked of past Scott?
Blinka
I learned Arduino 1st, then C/C++/C#, then Python and CP just a little while ago, so I just know the C family better...
But I'm loving CP/Python
Are the oxygen tanks getting low today, or we're using nitrox? ๐
Hi all. Bit late...
I started with C many eons ago for Windows application development, moved into C++ and C# as they came around, continued doing earlier C-style with Arduino, and now CP :D
๐
What text editor do you use?
Thanks Scott
Well, I guess I'll download and watch it tonight ๐
Scott uses Sublime Text
Thanks Scott!
I am a digdiver
Oh, cool
deepdiver
Thanks @rapid hornet for another excellent ๐คฟ ! And thank you to everyone in all the chats for being here! Y'all are awesome. Hope it's a great holiday weekend for you (if it's a holiday where you're at)!
I've purchased too much just enough Adafruit Hardware
- an I
Already hav a sense, a bluefruit express and some lora+gps modules..
thanks!
No Problem
Hey itโs Kristian from yt, please add me to the deep divers group for next time ๐
See ya Scott! Thanks!
Give Spooks lots of pets!
๐
Done ๐
thanks all!
Hey @waxen thistle - it's John Franco, please add me to the deep divers list. Thanks!
Done ๐
Can you add me to the deep diver list too? enjoyed the BLE debugging...
@waxen thistle please ๐
@waxen thistle yes. please! Thanks
I just remembered, this bundle went up today I think....
https://www.humblebundle.com/books/learn-you-more-python-books
done ๐
There's also this one too: https://www.humblebundle.com/software/python-development-software
I missed the ๐คฟ. What does the Deep Dive role mean? I probably want it @waxen thistle
Ah, @rapid hornet explained it. Yes please.
got you added. Your name will stay purple since circuitpythonistas is higher level role
@smoky island thank you. And for answering the unasked question.
@tame dew Just got back from dinner -- thanks @smoky island for handling it ๐
Please add me to the deep divers list
done ๐
Thank you !
@waxen thistlePlease, add me to the deep divers list, Thank You!
done ๐
I feel like collecting roles is like collecting badges. Warm cookies straight from the oven,
can I please be added to the deep divers role
done ๐
<3
There is indeed no such thing as enough roles
speaking of which I need to work on getting some here
<------ Not a cat a
:O
๐
Scandalous
So what is your project today?
Currently, Cheetos
Dangerously cheesy
Cheeto consumption complete
Now to find out if my FunHouse is defective
You fried it?
No, it doesn't show slider 11 as working in the initial boot test
But I don't know if it's a hardware issue, or if it's just labeled wrong in the test
right I saw same Pr regarding that
maybe check the issues, I believe is already fixed
So, no deep dive today. Now what will we do?
I'm watching random Circuit Playground videos
Itโs the Circuit Playground campfire musical! Adabot, Mho, and Minerva learn all about a foundation of electrical engineering - Ohmโs Law.

Watch a super playlist of all of Collin's Labs on a loop?
Maybe one of us should stream something :O
@rapid hornet Hi Scott, I missed the fact that you changed your schedule for deep dive this week to yesterday. I don't know how to sign-up for a 'role' can you add me pse to the 'deepdivers' ? Have a great weekend/hike with your partner!
Admins/mods can assign the role for you :D
the deepdive was yesterday as its the memorial weekend
Hopefully by the next time there's a possible schedule change, everyone who's a Scott fan will have the role and be able to get a ping
@proper prawn you may need to get the new role
Just gotta ask a mod/admin when one pops around
How can I see the schedule for next week?
Desk of Ladyada - Random hacker times
JP's Product Pick of the Week - 4pm ET Tuesdays
3D Hangouts - 11am ET Wednesdays
Show & Tell - 7:30pm ET Wednesdays
Ask an Engineer - 8pm ET Wednesdays
John Park's Workshop - 4pm ET Thursdays
Deep Dive w/Scott - 5pm ET Fridays
Thanks @teal river
np :D
Missed the one I wanted to see, Deep Dive was a day early this week.
Yeah, unfortunately he didn't realize that this coming Monday is a US holiday until after the last show, and the Deep Divers role didn't exist to notify people... Speaking of which, when you see a mod/admin, you can ask them to add that role for you so Scott can ping you if there's another schedule change
Ah, thanks!
No problem ^_^
Added.
Anyone else?
Did you want to be included in the DeepDivers role to get notifications about the Deep Dive?
Yes please!
Done.
Awesome, thanks!
Kattni da real MVP
would you mind adding me as well (and the circuit pythonistas role if that's alright)
Done and done.
woo that was fast, thank you!
Kattni zoom!
So - seems @rapid hornet got his own cult followers now. ๐
Cult of the Deep Dive
Ill be streaming some work on CircuitPython libraries this morning. Hangout here in the chat on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5w7kZBGyy0 or Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/foamyguy_twitch
Hello Tim!
Afternoon all. I'm listening and lurking.
Just imagine, you need to send a message but your hand crank is missing.
And here is Cult of Foamyguy
Scott may be lurking here today...
Hi all, probably won't be around long but wanted to say hi
Sure, I'll test it on linux
I can't join to watch, but hi, hope you're having fun :D
Thanks for checking in!
If you want a review (and approve assuming) I can do that
Sounds good I can approve it always and leave it unmerged
Gotta run, thanks!
Just noticed the spelling in the Youtube title - "CircuitPython Library Deveopmenmt"
๐
422 is what I return if you send json that cannot be parsed
In my API:s.
= "syntax error"
did you use a _ character?
I think it does only accept a-z, 0-9 and -
I menat the url
Looks like a GET for the feed itself, check the other GET one
That is my expectation?
So that wqas the feed url then. ๐
Yeah, batch is not what you want
Wrong BMP format probably
To hide the URL better, I'd suggest updating the parameters in the TLS of the web server, at least to add HSTS.
https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=designio.foamyguy.com
This is a good place to copy+paste from.
https://ssl-config.mozilla.org/
Having the URL stuck in history on a public computer would slightly suck....
HSTS is the part that if you go http, it redirects to https.
Happy to help.
The "B" grade is mostly because you have tls 1.0 and 1.1 which are considered as they should be deprectaed.
On the mozilla page if you select intermediate, the example code will enable 1.2 and 1.3. If you select modern, only 1.3.
Yes, the ssl labs page is kinda design to check and recheck, while the config is going on.
Yeah, there is way to do something similar to ssl labs, but with nmap. But the extra info is kinda nice.
Yes, do protocols as well
Yes, because ciphers like 1.1 can choose which protocols to use.
(things like 1.3 only have protocols considered as secure, not in "modern" is not needed)
Whoo! A+!
I never had a server getting A+ cause we always end up having to support like old truck computers and such.
We had a similar problem with a customer. We ended up having a secure site, and not so secure site with an uncomfortably long url, and worked on remediating the hosts that are un-upgradable. At the end, we ended up putting a bunch of Pis in front of those devices.
Coming in super late but hello all!
Not much of a npm person. I do like, and install almost immediately for C, is tools like ccache, and specially with riscv now, icecc to distribute compilation.
I have heard that yarn is faster at building that npm.
I do that so often with compile languages. I also do it with git add, git commit, then git dangit
I don't know much about programming dynamic web sites. But I found that almost the same workflow with websites that use "flat files". I made the diacircuitpython.org site and I had more fun that I expected.
With IPFS hosting just because if nice to try bleeding age stuff.
There's a balance between working on making things with code, and working on learning new ways to code/new libraries/new frameworks/new languages. I'm not good at the balance yet but eventually I hope to be
Well. I jumped onto Angular, and was done with my web site two weeks before they announced the NEW incompatible Angular. That sucked.
Ha. All those dependencies is scary.
Cheers, @smoky island. Have a great (long) weekend everyone.
Thanks!
That audit tool looks like it's super useful though--it looks like you can reach out to more js familiar people and they'll be able to highlight vulnerabilities without reading through your code. That's a nice benefit
Thanks for the stream! This was great!
Cool stream, I'll try to keep coming around.
Thanks all! hope everyone has a nice weekend!
When is foamyguy's stream??
I think foamyguy's schedule is "when there's time on the weekend"?
๐
OK
Usually at 10am Central Time on Saturdays, then other times when convenient
OK, thanks ๐
He did mention he might do another stream during the extended weekend.
Oooh, OK. That sounds fun ๐
Hi does anyone know if there will be a Desk of Ladyada this evening? Curious with the holiday
I don't know. I was wondering too ๐
@autumn turret Do you know if there will be a Desk of Ladyada tonight?
I don't know for sure. I suspect there will be, but I'm not "in the know", so can't make any promises
OK, thanks ๐
Cool@thanks for responding ๐
Sure thing. Best bet is to keep an eye on this channel and/or #general-tech
Or turn on notifications on Youtube
Ditto! lol
It's usually not scheduled. It's planned "...around Ladyada clock"
So ~8pm Eastern US time. +/- 3(ish) hours
Oh, I like that time ๐
๐
o'๐
8 pm was a hour ago here, so IDK
Ladyada streams at random hacker times
I saw that ๐
๐ค๐ป

Yesssss
Stream's on ๐
we will be live soon, will post links here as usual
I'll be here with my hand-made resistors!
Hey, I've hand-made capacitors ๐
I mean it's happening ๐
Ohhhh!!!! Yay!!!! ๐
I've hand-made capacitors too :D but not for practical use, as I intend with these resistors
Ohhh now I see the post โyerp getting set upโฆ,โ
I know people still make capacitors the old timer way, for retro amplifiers.
(They also cost from $40 to $400.... each)
oof
I'm only making paper resistors because I have no 1meg resistors and don't feel like waiting for them on order XD
๐
And I have copper tape with conductive adhesive, so... ezpz
waits patiently for YouTube link, hums Jeopardy! music
RIP Late, Great Alex Trebek
I miss him...
Yeah, me too
levar will be hostin' looking forward to taht
I've only watched the Deep Blue episodes ๐

Yep!
Aaaaand welcome to Desk of Ladyada
It still says waiting for me D:
First DoL post LOL

Oh, I thought you meant it was live XD
But it's hacker o'clock, so..
The show will begin when Ladyada is good and ready
That's right! Also, fellow Deep Diver ๐
Big Scott fan :D
Tell me if it actually goes live
Just because sometimes it doesn't refresh
streamin' compy wanted an update, rebooting now
cool cool
Computers always have the best timing for updates XD

I made this box to be a lamp base while waiting XD
we have audio
Desk of Ladyada - Lots of Keeb Samples & Resin Keycap Fun! https://youtu.be/edNWMCKKASA
This weekend we got a whole bunch of keyboard enclosure samples, a 60% keyboard PCB we're checking out for inspiration, and a silicone mold for making keycaps. We tried making some and learned a bit. They GH60 was also interesting, let's check out some design decisions!

Hiii!
Long holiday weekend dedication!
Salud!
This has been a weekend of rather then finishing one project I started another
at least smoked ribs are a finite project
Vacuum pump to suck the bubbles out. I did A LOT of resin casting as a metallurgist
Don't resins usually have the wavelength they cure at listed? Should make it easier to find the right light!
Aquarium pump is good enough
With the climate here, I only warm the resin a bit, and them maybe hit it with a heat gun. (the mold would melt?)
Resin hard DX
I do a warm water bath, and that changes the viscosity of the 12h vacuum I use
DIY
keys!
But those look top notch and veru well made.
I love the moldsโฆ many ideas
I can imagine creating a little lamp box kit wouldn't be hard!
Oh, that etching is very useful!
Great use for DoA and chips that lost the magic smoke...
will prolly do one of each
Q: do we have TFT or OLED small and square enough to be dynamic key caps?
If you make a full size CP keeboar kit, I will throw all the muns at you!
@tame dew they exist but $50+ per key
The aluminum case.... ๐
I saw a keyboard with little 32x32 pixel displays in each key... they sold for like $2000 each.
Yay sockets!
The Optimus Maximus keyboard, previously just "Optimus keyboard", is a keyboard developed by the Art. Lebedev Studio, a Russian design studio headed by Artemy Lebedev. Each of its keys is a display which can dynamically change to adapt to the keyboard layout in use or to show the function of the key. It was launched initially in 2007 and is no l...
Not NeoPixels :O
I think I need to wait for the future
I had the mini 3 key macro pad... died after 6 months
Or maybe LCD with NeoPixel backlight
100 of the 5050 NeoPixels was $40 from the site... yeah, pricey XD
People who wait for the future, tend to wait more.
Maybe you can use some of the cheap $15 oleds and cast it on top of the keycap?
But now I think I understand the price!
Would it be possible to create a library to make this LED drivers chip compatible with the neopixel libraries?
I have a cheap MX-clone keyboard with LEDs that are IN the keyswitch casing
N-key rollover is also nice if you type really fast like I do XD
The Streamdeck is actually a single LCD display
Ladyada did a teardown about 2 years ago I think (maybe more?)
Iโm obviously behind the times
yeah a touchscreen the buttons press on
Heckin' cheap is heckin' good
StreamDeck is wonderful... I use it for live camera switching, lighting control shortcuts for theater productions, editing in Premiere.. and the back end software keeps up really well..
Itโs been highly recommended to me by other content creators
Absolutely @rich wing. It's a really well done product with the software. You can also DIY your own with Adafruit products! I think the project is called the "TouchDeck"
Ironically they sell a version of the stream deck at Target now
I ended up using it for unemployment benefits form filling too. ๐
Glass body diodes are pretty
I lived this great search for a still unfinished project. It was my first time realizing how cheaply I could order more diodes then I would ever need
insert joke about youtubers
It's a good app launcher, keyboard shortcut, etc.
DIY diodes (with a grafite pencil, or with aluminim) are also cool.
(we where talking earlier about diy resitors and capacitors)
No melf today? They strike me as bizarre, they must be easier to solder without them rolling away than I would expect
Given that I actually see them in products
Make robot friend... with surface mount ๐
RIP internet
Homemade pcbs : another way to become friends with smd, save drilling time
I just surface mount thru-hole parts
I'm experimenting with "pcbs"" made of gellatin or agar ๐
Oh nice
Paper and tape PCBs!
Bio circuits?
