hi there!
@haughty quiver 👋
Very quiet in here today...
At least we have the Bleeps and Bloops...
🔉
Too quiet... Somehting fishy is going on. LOOK out!
Ah, @inner spade there you are. 😄
🔊
Good afternoon all you wonderful folks!
audio was great at least whole time
its still broadcasting
"I'm sorry Dave, I can't let you do that."
mic audio in sync and peaking at -6dB -- good to go!
restarting Wirecast, please standby
Camera was like 🥵I'm out
Standing by...
must have been a big YT delay on my end of the interweb
I think I missed some fun stuff?
broadcasting again!
YT is back now!
too much sun from andy there?
Nice. that's a cool little sensor
That was nice getting the 1/2 on that sensor
it's not called BUNDLEFLY?
soon there is mascot called Bundlefy
whew
is it a standard command or using the lifx api?
someone but to twitch chat put BrundleFly
can't wait until iot stuff has a stable command set
i think there was standard somekind for iot
^I think google home local api has some standards but each vendor has different imps.
The LIFX stuff seems pretty cool! Their cloud API is nice https://api.developer.lifx.com/docs
Thanks @gaunt plume for the cool CircuitPython library!
does anybody know if there is equivalent library or api for kasa bulbs?
Yay, just got done with the phone call -- back. Looks like things have stabilized....thanks Lars.
Lars cannot be seen...
Looks like there's a regular Python library for Kasa bulbs https://github.com/python-kasa/python-kasa so potentially portable to CircuitPython
If one has a secret, one must keep it secret that one has a secret to keep...
@quartz estuary you could look like industry standard for it
cool ! thanks @cinder wind
Lars the Lamp. 😄
^ was going to ask if it kept some kind of log around activations. From the motion sensor portion I'd like to know when it was activated.
My alexa activated lol
Alexa - deactivate Lars.
Nice, Thanks
Lars: You forgot to say "please". Request denied.
Luckily the alexa in my office is broken.. .so didn't Activate.
A while back 3D printing nerd kept activating my alexa on a stream.

Another great workshop @haughty quiver 😀
Thanks @haughty quiver!
ah good, sorry for the confusion.
thanks JP!
good show
Huge thanks to @gaunt plume @cinder wind @sage aspen for libraries, code, and support making this work so well!
No problem, things change and life happens @haughty quiver --- my info was current as of last night 🙂 I doublechecked myself because I didn't want to miss it either!
You're welcome @haughty quiver. Glad to help.
I almost forgot that i'm streaming tonight
come hang out if you have the time. I'm doing some more driver development 🙂
Oak Dev Tech or ODT is an electronics manufacturing and development company that specializes in tiny form factor boards. We stream board development, testing, and assembly.
I'm live if y'all wanna hang out
Good evening @lilac tusk! Audio's a touch low
Doing alright, all things considered. How are you?
Better, yes
4 day work weeks? Nice
Cool arrangement!
Moved in less than 2 months ago, and already rearranging? lol
On that "being a good dad", some days, the victory is your child hasn't been dropped off at one of those "safe drop" locations
It's not even bad days, it could be a bad timespan
like hour
I've been fighting with mine for just about 2 hours now to take baths
Ah yes, I remember now, the Delay(1000) vs. sleep(1000) lol
That'd be a major nuissance if it works as expected on the macbook
So you're rewriting the test code and lib on the mac?
Sorry, I'm in and out from chat and stream dealing with kids
Didn't realize I'd be missed THAT much!
I think the BSOD reset your volume level
Yeah. For the most part, Windows does what it's supposed to, even if "supposed to" is weird quirks. Other times though... It's just WAY out there
"Are you sure you want to rename that file? Sure sure?? For realsies?"
📎 "It looks like you're trying to rename a file. Would you like some help with that? I recommend naming it clippy.lol"
lol, that's a good one. Hadn't heard that
Time to return the unmasked raw value?
Or maybe the Arduino IDE is rebelling against the name of this sketch?
That's my one massive annoyance with WSL - that the error bell goes off for every last little thing.
Yep, or vim's default "can't backspace indentations, special characters, etc".
Switched COM port on you
And we know the board's good, since CP picked it up right away, right?
Plenty of ways to over-complicate things with the mac
ofc it picks it up
You SSH into it, use screen or tio or somethjing else for serial monitor. VNC into it, since it's built in
Cool. I saw someone post in a channel here yesterday (?) that they got some stuff from your shop
I don't remember, no.
Oh wow, nice! This was the lipo connector for the QTPy
It's a pretty handy add-on
And now there's the QTPy RP2040 out there
I dunno, I have a "screenshot" button on my keyboard that works on both mac and PC
PrtScrn, then add Shift, Ctrl or both
Cool that it's picking those up
So it does work
As expected
Found it! #help-with-projects message
It's always hard to tell what people will want
ah yeah, startups. "We're making muffins! Now we're making dishes! Oh, that either? Now we're offering Dishwashers As A Service! Still no? WElp, sorry investors. We're a potato farm now"
New startup idea: Pivot As A Service. Boom!
I don't know either of those types of folk. So the most "exotic" pivot I know is the one in basketball
Nah, not really a fan of basketball
Well, more playing, not watching
Like that for most sports. Though I'll watch the hecc out of a hockey game
I doubt it, but could it be the voltage from the USB port?
Like just a touch too low?
And tried a different port too?
Your Arduino IDE isn't showing
I presume Arduino, since nothing's showing in VIm
I haven't, no. Heard a little bit about it, but next to nothing
Most of what I watch, when I get a chance, are Youtube videos
Queen's Gambit?
Will try to catch it then
Yeah, background music/audio that won't raise the ire of the DMCA... yeesh
It definitely did. I get what they were going for, but the implementation... not so much
What are you calling that one?
Sounds like someone learned a lesson from a previous board! lol
The new board you were showing off
yeah
Oh no!
At least it wasn't a more expensive part
Ooh! Queen's Gambit, or Holy Grail? Grrrrraillllll
So, in historical chronological order?
Watch those two movies/series in the order in which they happen in history
Nope, cannot import a boar. The "U" in "USB" does stand for "Universal", but it's apparently not THAT universal
touched() is a method
I2C address?
OH! odf_at....QT1070()
Missing parents on Line 5
Too late
You were assigning the type to touchy, not creating an instance
You had it before
Do what you had before - the import odt_...
then touchy = odt_at42qt1070.ODT_AT42QT1070()
So now your code's right. But I guess Windows still isn't
Woah, it's way passed my bedtime!
Unfortunately, no 4 day work week here :/
Enjoy the gambit!
thanks 🙂
What time is "Deep Dive w/Scott" today?
notes doc is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KxldW6taU5XS0_Nj2xwS3-zNK7o2DSAnx7cXj6bgs-4/edit?usp=sharing
Deep Dive w/Scott Hi all, this doc is try and track topics and timecodes for my deep dive stream. These notes will end up in the YouTube video’s description. Any help keeping them groomed as I stream is welcome. Housekeeping I’m sponsored by Adafruit to work on CircuitPython. Support them, and...
hello!
👋
sounds good, looks good, and live on twitch as well
Hi Scott. I'm just walking home from a BLM protest.
o/
where in the doc do I drop questions?
post questions here?
here 😉
https://github.com/v923z/micropython-ulab/issues/364: due to math being complex--micropython is looking at adding complex numbers as a default dtype--but it comes with a space cost. I was curious what your thoughts on it were as I don't understand enough about the underlying design to know if you could just import ulab_complex as an alternative
hello
Also better testing / quality control of adafruit products
it's also unfair to compare cheap bare devices with a feather that does battery charging and all that for example
Hello everybody
Or you can be like me and forget you dropped an item in your cart and next time you order put it in again and order two! (oops)
knowledgable people can give back to the community
Good afternoon all you wonderful folks 🙂
we are somewhat wonderful, hopefully
i would like to graduate from [object Object] to a real person
No one enjoys being objectified 😉
I think ids with privilege get names, hence @waxen thistle and @nova totem
Once in a while, it nabs me -- I think when I post a link, for example.
Hello weblate gang
circup is amazing
I still haven't received my club badge or stickers...
hey adding the parenthesis in my name worked for [object] 😛
205 I believe
See, now I'm three ??? 🙂
stm
so how many of them will be available over the next few months? hashtag chip shortage
the support matrix is at the top, modules
The changes and improvements to the software of late has been a delight to watch, I'm really excited to see the code ecosystem mature even further
https://learn.adafruit.com/keep-your-circuitpython-libraries-on-devices-up-to-date-with-circup
( might be different than @upper sandal mentioned )
Good afternoon, evening, and merry timezone where ever you find yourself!
doesnt look pricey. the nrf5340 that is.
(as an aside, that shows 207 boards in the support matrix)
hi
If you don't plan on updating, cutting the traces from the USB data lines would do it
Hiya NeradobjectObject 😄
This is the Transformer I was talking about on Scott's live stream
I'm not an object right now 😛
@upper sandal that's a fantastic job!
we are (I am) having too much fun with that bug
Neradoc's been doing a bunch of Quality of Life fixes, updates and changes
How do guys like my Transformer
It's the one that I use for charging supercapacitors
This organization has no public repositories.
( github circuitpython )
The winding for supercapacitors which is the two green wires consists of 10 windings of standard stranded copper wire
In this picture I do not have the rectifier attached
From @light stump 🙂
Somehow not surprised. That kmatch is a multi-talented individual!
Happy 200
, everyone.
it's a github deep dive, we have to go deeper
Not an object took me by surprise
BTW, hackaday has a new stream called "The Deep Dive". I frowned upon that "the".
timecodes synced to pc clock - then adjusted as needed 🙂 e.g. 14:00 PST becomes 0:00
it works, apparently you just have to ask 😛

rsync is a bit complex, but very cool for partial transfers. Webdav is nice because it's a small extention to something that is already small and simple.
wait, accessible to people without a PC ? you're making it too easy 🧐 😉
(we need a "PT rant" emote btw)
Maybe a PT lego minifig?
Did you talk about how CP gets onto these devices that are BLE only? Will that a per chip mfg process?
And Happy weekend !
You need a /dev/null for circuitpython, so you can bench the wireless speed only.
you need a laser cutter, @rapid hornet so you can cut the acrylic smaller 🙂
SeattleMakerspace has one 😉
hahaha "I do not do mechanical things!"
mechanical - what about your christmas projects ?
sorry, late BLE q, is android on your roadmap?
@raven valley Great question!
like did you mean line 57 or 68 ?
+1 for foamyguy!!!
"green-yellow-flashing yellow" means you're using 2-space tabs instead of 4-space tabs, I think (lolololol)
ReactNative BLE might be a path to both
https://reactnativeexample.com/react-native-bluetooth-low-energy-library/
oh I suddenly want to try using open cv to decode it
How is this not known ... why hidden?
record with camera in slow motion? 🙂
how about a mysterious fast blinking that subliminally reprograms your brain ? or was that X-files ?
Could the rapid flashing light trigger seizures? ... I guess not, just something to consider.
Parenthesis worked ... thanks @upper sandal
I wonder if it would be interesting to have a "remember the last exception that happened when it was not connected to USB" feature somehow, because it's often an issue debugging things on a long running device or that only happen on battery (maybe through a special file similar to boot_out.txt)
red LED .. good choice re: power considerations
Deleting code is often more valuable than adding code 🙂
it's not even morse code, delete all that
2023: all new CircuitPython boards have a hardwired klaxon that always plays unless something is wrong
oh right, there was that idea too
I heard it will play the Eye on NPI theme ...
that eye is boring into my skull! Who does those themes?
I hate how jlinkexe seems to be so much more interrupty than it used to be
is there a command line argument to suppress the jlink pop up?
you have to change your scripts now to do jlinkexe -NoGui to make no GUI happen (https://wiki.segger.com/J-Link_Commander#-NoGui )
I just found it in the Adafruit art pack images so I’m only the finder not the creator.
@raven valley .... i do enjoy watching you work ... like a ASMR thing or somtehing
I use this time to work "alongside", which is why most of my comments are just snarky sh*tposts
I was a little confused by the birds for a second
You have 16777216 different possible colors! Just think of all the different error cases you could display
Perhaps the AR app could decode the colors for those that have color decode challenges
thats a good idea, better than no solution, but not quite as good as equally accessible by design
the initial shipped demo code can blink to show off features or testing, but totally agree about having 5+ seconds between blinks
should the function name *_animation be changed? ( since you are getting rid of the breathing )
Is breathing equivalent to animation ?
somebody mentioned that the board didn't come with a decoder ring when I explained the bootloader pattern on the S2 boards (press boot while the LED is purple)
is this configurable?
Have Collin record a calming video about CircuitPython error conditions
so I can set the time between blinks?
Collin does the best ambient tech videos...
the gap is at the point where you start asking "how long do I have to wait ?"
yeah, I think 10 is too long
I don't know how you go in safemode, but I do it all the time.
Simple is better. This seems like a great refactor
five or three
I was going to say 4
import microcontroller
microcontroller.on_next_reset(microcontroller.RunMode.SAFE_MODE)
microcontroller.reset()
I also like the idea that BLE allows more details
or... do LED pattern rhythms! "If it's the bassline to "Jaws", it's a boot.py error. If it's the Beethoven's Fifth, it's a problem in code.py. If it's the Peter Gun spy theme, WiFI couldn't connect"
I think the problem is we all think a second is shorter than it actually is
I find it hard to count the four
(oh that hurt)
There's another very faint flash going on
flash rate for seniors
I keep seeing 3
I see 4
it's too fast, my brain goes "1 2 3 eerrrr"
There are four lights! - Picard
just watched the slow motion of safe mode blink - seems like some pulsing going on there
Anything above 3 is "blink a lot".
I like that better
Simon says codes on the different lights. Lol. Go even deeper into over engineering. Jk.
That's pretty good... yeah. Let's A\B test the two ...
speaking of over engineering, would blinking two alternating (but close) colors make it easier to "count" ? 🤔
4 best for me
looks good
that and cache invalidation
EZ to count at 4. Does feel slightly slow, but acceptable.
ez is good!
That’s super obvious
less is more, it must hurt to delete your work, but was the right decision I think
That was code that the younger, more innocent and less experienced Scott wrote
I bet someone has published a paper on UX study of error blink codes and blink rates.
probably like the US Navy in 1956
Thanks Scott. Have a great weekend.
Awesome stream!
That was fun Scott! Thank you!
Thanks Scott
Thanks Scott
Thanks for the lovely stream! Have a great weekend all!
it's like the embedded version of the web's ubiquitous login page rewrite
thanks Scott!
Thanks Scott and everyone. Have a wonderful weekend, stay safe and stay vigilent!
you mean Bundle Fly 😉
Thanks all
🐱
good night
I wonder if on RP2040 the blink will be offloaded to the PIO processor...
Or the other core.
I want it in the CP main loop so you know it's alive
Thanks Scott.
thanks all!
@waxen thistle thanks for the twitch ban! I tried to do it on my stream
Where do you get the headphones on the Adafruit "Pi Swag" slide?
Sorry about the late question
I didn't see the slide, but was it these headphones ?
https://learn.adafruit.com/bluetooth-controlled-neopixel-headphones/overview
There are others matches though
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Adafruit+headphones
DuckDuckGo. Privacy, Simplified.
@rapid hornet thanks for the stream and putting up with a little trolling 🙂
Bundle Fly is awesome
No problem -- I had to dip out early, but I saw that nonsense and handled it accordingly. Hope the rest of the stream went quieter 🙂
@waxen thistle yup, all good! thank you
@left pier Thanks. I don't think those were them, but I will ask @proper trench on Wednesday.
I will be streaming some work on CircuitPython graphics libraries this morning. Hang out with me here in the chat, on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/foamyguy_twitch or Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcapoUbj9NU
afternoo all. I'm lurking but distracted with coding.
Or prefix Community?
Good Greetingtime.
Just finished my urban forestry work for the day.
Cherry tree never saw us coming.
For docs I add this to .bashrc
alias cpdocs='sphinx-build -E -W -b html . _build/html'
It needs a blank line before ..note (maybe)
I have seen documentation where Tuples are just marked as (x,y) without the Tuple keyword
is there like a standard to follow on that ?
Good morning, afternoon and/or time o'clock where ever you may be friends!
Looks like I showed up just in time for git "fun"?
Hello Hug-o
If you create your main now, then add Github as a remote, you should be able to push to GH
If you leave the GH one empty
Hiya @clever summit! How's your day going?
Lazy saturday. Watching from bed.
Or even if you don't leave it empty, you can pull remote's "main", then push
Have my projector there. 🙂
Ooh la la! Fancy continental European living right there!
Yes, you can push commits
You're all good, you got it! 🙂
Livin' the contractor life!
Problem is I have to switch windows from Discord to Youtube. Guess I need 2 projectors.
Hi @smoky island
Pretty well, just working on the watch. What do you have in store?
add it in the weeds if you feel you'll forget by monday
Popup streams
Sounds cool. Might want to post it in here, or a different channel though. Twitch notifications are.... 👎
Where does it get the commit messages?
Is that what the elgato streamdeck calls "folders" ?
(not a good picture) -- the last one is live static icon.
Yeah, sound is excellent
Agreed, audio's just right
Pick a multi file one?
what about "SlideSwitch" or "toggle"?
"toggle" would be a good keyword
and/or method name?
True
iirc it is "line#s" meaning add line numbers
but it's been ages since i've review rst docs
you had :linenos: on screen in several places
api.rst tab size PR submitted
I keep missing it - what's the error message showing?
o/ I'm late but how's everyone?
Any more warning higher up?
In case that was the summary of warnings & errors
Ahoy @modern night
search for 'Widget' <- use backticks
Try running sphinx in verbose mode
replace with ''Widget'' <- use backticks
(are we hunting down doctest issues?)
I think I've got that the right way round. It's trying to link to the documentation for Widget but it can't find it. (I think)
Sphinx is a right royal pain in the a...
^ it is. It's so powerful but it's got such a learning curve
Good eye @manic vessel
I've banged my head with that one more than once.
Ah, yeah. You need a commit to actually "define" the branch
That needs to be there for pylint
What's in Github now?
You can rename the branch
Untrack "master" from your local, then push main
github has master
You never made a main
Dan just merged the cookiecutter PR
git branching is it's own annoying learning curve I've not tackled with success of yet
Thanks
Thanks for the wonderful stream! Have a great weekend!
Cheers for the stream. Have a great afternoo, evening, morning everyone. Mis-spelling afternoon twice in one session. D'Oh!
Thanks for hanging out all 👋
Hey everyone! I'll be streaming this evening again at 6:30pm EDT, 3:30pm PDT
Ah shoot got distracted by ice cream! Tomorrow it is then whoops

Desk of Ladyada - Desk of Ladyada - snap-apart mechanical keyboards and “NFTs” 🙂 https://youtu.be/6aoQJqNy4ZA
It's a Keeb-ful sunday at the Desk of Ladyada - we launched the NeoKey breakout and dual key FeatherWing. But what about folks who want MORE KEEB? We chatted last weekend about making some sort of macro-pad or configurable keyboard, ideally with snap apart bits. Today we spent some time making the custom footprint that would let me easily tile K...
Hello all! You are awesome!
Hiya @mellow thunder - Takes one to know one! 🙂
@autumn turret 👍 You da man!
@open girder and channel: A question for later in the show:
I'm starting on a project and I know I'm going to need some GPIO, I2C for servos and OLED display, SPI for NeoPixels, UART to control an audio player, and wifi to support a web interface... there are so many Adafruit boards that seem like they'd fit, is there a feature matrix or "product picker" for the dev boards somewhere that shows which boards support what features? Darn you for having so many great products! 😄
@rich wing check out MAKE's board guide
❣️
and also check out..
and use the filter to see all the boards / features
there are 200 boards there
and also https://circuitpython.org/blinka
good evening! Watching at 2x to catch up ⏪
Awesome! Usually I'm out driving for DoorDash and have Desk Of on so I can listen.. glad I'm home tonight and get to watch and chat! ❤️
@rich wing all good, thanks for coming by and stay safe 🙂
A zig-zag path down one row and back the next row the opposite way, is called boustrophedon, or greek for "as the ox plows". It's the way the ancient greeks wrote lines at one time. They wrote their characters backward every other line.
easy to read?
follows the path an ox would in the field, plowing one row, then making a ewe turn, then plowing the opposite direction
ohh those are super fun
I want that scroll wheel!
how about a capacitive scroll wheel !
yah, we have a few "NFT"s planned since we will not wanna make a ton, they will not be as low-cost as other trinkeys
so limited edition ones for fun
COLLECT THEM ALL
That makers guide to boards is dangerous! LOL!😋
PMT:= Photo Multiplier Tube
🙂
@proper trench and the i2c pull-ups right?
Phil Markets Trinkies!
it's true, that's what i do
"mullet of headers" nice haha
goodnight!
I was left handed and always got in trouble for smearing my writing with an old-school fountain pen :^(
goodnight folks
I'm late, but kudos to the person who knew about the boustrophedon. I tough it was a term only known to epigraphy folks.
Also, very cool rotary encoder. The weird one JP suggested.
Which weird encoder @gusty wedge ? Now I forget and it sounds intriguing!
Ah, yes, THAT one! Thanks @gusty wedge
They seem very cool. And parting from "normal" encoders, they seem comfortable to manipulate several at a time... let's say a graphical EQ, where with one hand you can shift the mids a bit. (vs normal pots where you can only move them one at a time, by pinching two fingers, a-la synth-player-style)
Good afternoon all you wonderful folks!
Good afternoon
Hello all
Evening, all
👋
hi!
Good afternoon.
Hello!
LOL San Diego doesn't give out hats. 😦 Printing my multipass holder now though.
Got mine ordered just now. Great price for them, and I wanted to get in before the limited quantity was gone!
no hat for me - glad you got your 'jab'!
Your choice of Homburg, Porkpie, Trilby, Bowler, or Fedora
only 30 4 ~~2 zero ~~left!
Days like today I almost feel like I made money watching JPs show. Great deal on those!
I bought two of these last week 🙄
Gone
Not surprised to see it gone.
Poof!
@haughty quiver You're muted
Good now 🙂
Seems like the stream crashed for Twitch....
YouTube is still up.
.....I spoke perhaps too soon.
Too soon indeed.
ack! getting some wrror messages about our RTMP server. stanby please
YouTube went out for me. I thought it was just me, we have some small pea-sized hail going on right now
QT Py's are out of stock but the Cyberdecks are back in stock.
That youtube delay got me again, been spoiled by the ultra-low latency that Twitch has
Yeah Twitch has lower latency but it buffers a lot more often.
While we wait, can any one here point me toward a project that is Not IOT but voice activated display? i.e. 'Lumos' turns on an edge lit Ravenclaw nightlight? (I have 1 week before nieces bday to build one)
crash right after JP said "all out of stock" a few minutes ago
I just watched a video where a guy used an ESP32 to fool Alexa it was a Hue bridge with a light.
Is something like that interesting @shadow epoch ?
yay JP is back (on YT)!
YT
YT works
@haughty quiver Back on twitch
streaming again - yes!
It is @clever summit .. I could also just add a button to a little wand remote... cpx ...
For @shadow epoch - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7T4hS5EFB_I
He said it should work for any voice assistant
Nunchuks are useful. I hacked together a little gadget that can jog my CNC.
great demo from John
doh!
Thanks @haughty quiver
Stanby seems like another hat option somehow.
i have seen real nunshucks used with light
Thanks JP!
I agree, great demo. Sometimes its just good to see different ways these microcontrollers and sensors can be used.
thanks all! sorry for the kooky stream health today
why is Lars on the wing of the plane/
Lars does not chew. He gnaws.
Ew. You're right. Ew.
He prefers "nibbling", as he enjoys feasting on copper.
Also ew.

@hard hollow @rocky reef Audio went down again
what is this with audio today
Hard cutoff, no static or anything -- just silence.
Same
audio muted on different scene?
And the stream dropped on Twitch -- probably resetting, methinks.
wirecast issues, starting again, hang tight
We’re back.
we are back

Audio is back!
audio back
Audio went down...again 😦 @hard hollow @rocky reef
Dang it
audio went down when switched this scene
The audio is the real lemon today! 🍋
When life hands you lemons, break out two cans & a really long string.
🔇 and 🔈
Still muted...
Same
We will never know the secrets of the lemon
No audio
So one said macro in the YouTube chat.
dang we hate wire cast
This time was in the middle of a scene transition -- but earlier it was just literally random.
It’s back
Video and audio and lemon are back!
Very grapefruty... reminds me that I haven't had breakfast 🙂
That'd make a really nice Orange
or grapefruit
Pizza Burger
Roses are red,
Violets are blue.
Make a 3D printed orange,
or a nice lemon too!
Any citrus fruit would be cool.
Could you rotate the top? So it could double as a rotary encoder.
could also be a watermelon
(maybe with a slip ring..)
rotary encoder could be like the side ring
if the ring is printable for rotary encoder to detach to

dang lemons
lemony snicket..
what technology is being used for the audio ?
wirecast
Lars is JP's nemesis. Yours? Lemons.
Life keeps giving you lemons when all you want is an orange
it's back
Lars and Lemons have teamed up with Wirecast to bring nefarious shenanigans to the realm.
Video, audio, lemons, and smiles are back!
so it's hard to tell if the issue is in the cloud or the local office ?
I used that pybadge case to display my badge in a scientific conference where I gave a talk, back when those things happened.
printed in marble PLA
I had a nice PyBadge ready to go for OHS 2020!
Well, as we all know, hindsight was 2020.
I had to buy a new extruder for my Ender 3 to be able to print flexible, since the stock one doesn’t work that well
I have seen more people design 3d printed clothing. I'm guessing it would be perfect for it.
The youtube channel "Sew Printed" has a couple of videos of textile-ish clothing, all 3d printed.
it's back
Back!
wirecast is like nope today
Jeje, you know you are watching an adafruit video, when you don't know if something is e-paper... or paper.
Was the top surface ironed?
Haven't seen that ironed feature.
you know with button for it could be neat for it
Gotta print
Thanks @hard hollow & @rocky reef. See you all tonight.
thanks folks
CR is still quite behind on vaccination for covid, so it will still be a few months until I get it probably. My dad did got the first dose.
Update it!
Thanks @hard hollow and @rocky reef -- excellent show, and you showed exceptional patience with dealing with wirecast today! Your efforts are always appreciated 🙂

thanks so much for hanging out folks!
Thanks for the lemony live stream
Just a note -- Ask An Engineer is moved to Thursday at 8PM ET THIS WEEK ONLY. We'll still have Show & Tell at the normal time today (Wednesday) though! Hope you can join us!
what
It will be just for this week. @haughty quiver will still do a great show and tell, today at the usual time.
i was like why
Busy people doing busy stuff. Not many big companies get to their owner livestreaming every week. I find that impressive.
VERY impressive ... and appreciated
when you wished the post had more information
For example?
it didnt had mode info than what was on topic
always good .... I enjoy the mystery
The other benefit of this week's change is that, if JP goes long talking to people about their project, it will be ok!
if you say so @autumn turret
I'm just trying to make a performance art piece with interpretive dance out of lemons, because I'm tired of having so much lemonade!

good evening folks
In the car right now, I plan to share. Have a great evening, wonderful person reading this!
that's the link you need, come on over and show and tell!
Good evening @haughty quiver 👋
Good evening!
Hi everyone! Got anything to show? Come join!
yup... octoprint for everyone, everywhere.
🐙 🖨️
I love OctoPrint. I use it on all my printers 🙂 all Open Source!
I really have to set it up one day
OctoPrint is great! I have it for an E3PRO
Sounds pretty nifty. Still need to get a 3D printer for it - unless I can use it for my laser printer?
and you can print direct to OctoPrint from many slicers (PrusaSlicer, Cura)
The main author Gina Häußge is also super cool.
hi all!
Wow, that's looking like an awesome guide! Good for schools to start setting up maker spaces too? Thinking of pitching something at my kids' elementary school
👋 @rapid hornet
The Open Hardware Summit is the annual conference organized by the Open Source Hardware Association.
I should probably sponsor Octoprint -- I did a one-time donation once but I'd like to help keep it going.
Also, for Octoprint, there's "spaghetti detective", a plugin that uses the camera, and AI to predict if there is a failure and notify. (and auto-cancell if you let it)
hello
🎥
awesome work @robust horizon
Wow @robust horizon that framerate is amazing! Much better than my first webcam (Connectix Quickcam)
Is that compatible for the new raspberry camera, or those ov cameras are something way different?
That'll be a cool addition to CP! Good stuff @robust horizon
really neat @robust horizon cool to see how good the framerate is
OV2640? Looks like Seeed has one with fisheye optics https://www.seeedstudio.com/OV2640-Fisheye-Camera-p-4048.html
@gusty wedge those are quite different -- the working camera is OV7670 and the possibly-upcoming camera is OV2640
I would love to write CircuitPython on the OpenMV!

that's adorable @steep pilot
Holy mobile batman! That's awesome
I'd put that mobile in my room!
That's great @steep pilot I keep thinking of something to build for my nephew
Very nice. I think I'm using an ov7670 on an animal tracker for dantas (a centralamerican mammal). It's going to be so cool on circuitpython. Thanks.
Erin's projects always have so much more heart than mine.
That is seriously awesome Erin!
I want a mobile like that for me, or something similar to it! Makes for cool decorative elements @steep pilot
Integrate @robust horizon . Mobile nanny cam.
Very nice Brent! And all wireless? So cool!
that robo instrument is awesome!
Looks like that's coming along nicely Liz Blitz City "MIDI all the things" DIY!
I can't wait for full roboflute going online, @split gazelle ! good luck with the solenoids, they are tricky
I love all these robotic instruments @split gazelle
It only sends wireless requests. No wireless HID stuff
thanks!
It only works off-camera...
That's still really cool, that you don't need to go through the host/computer for it
So cool @split gazelle - check out some inspiration.

AWESOME midi!!!
thanks, yeah i think once i get the power sorted i should be in business
That touchpad circuit board is awesome!
ohhh cap touch midi
Sweetness!! Todbot!
thanks Mark!
Very nice @cinder wind. Looks a bit ruler-shaped, so could even add a "Calculator" mode!
Don't give that PCB to me with the assumption I can't mess it up 🙂
that's so simple and so cooll @cinder wind
super cool @cinder wind !
That is so rad @cinder wind !!
@cinder wind Are you making this into a Kit???
too cool @cinder wind ! I really like the silkscreen on the board too!
@cinder wind WOOOOOT!

Today I'll show you The world first blowless flute - I play a melody on my thermoacoustic engine. This is a short video how to play a melody on a thermoacoustic heat engine.
The basic of this engine is a Hofler tube a simple thermoacoustic prime move...
So cool!
So cool about all the work you did to get the repo @cinder wind.
It doesn't really blow, but resonates. So it's kinda AC vs DC 🙂

yummy keycaps!
Keycaps? Grab bags??? 🤤
thanks! I've been having fun with crazy silkscreen lately
Must resist. Keycap grab bags...
I was talking about the thermoacoustic thing... Your project was great.
Those keycaps can give a project a really good worn industrial look to thing
Looking forward to Friday's Deep Dive
Maybe it's just me, but I enjoy the JP format of S&T
Thanks @rapid hornet
3lbs of caps??? Wow
oh those grab bags are dangerous
yes they are
Bonus points for 😻
@rapid hornet You said we might need to "subscribe" to get the grab bag?
subscribe to get an email when they are available
dang kids these days, being so competent and technically skilled
🤣
yay live demos hehehehehe!
That's so neat @proven crow! And I'll 2nd the Java sentiment 😉
That's really ingenious @proven crow
super cool @proven crow !
Redstone is turing complete as well, so this can become super complicated. I think
basicly program real world objects using mincraft logic! oh man, JP got to my thought before i could finish my thought HAHA!
Yup turing complete a quick google search agrees
Thanks for the support guys! 😊
that was very cool @proven crow !
this is an excellent idea for pc temp sensing
I can barely make a command block type in chat for MC!
Minecraft is honestly overcomplicated, and the upcoming update won't help 🙂
COM port roulette
That sounds really cool Stuart! Hope to see it next week!
thanks, I share my window but it doesn't seem to share for some reason.
Joys of technology "simplifying" our lives! 🙂
haha
I believe Streamyard let's you set up your own free test meeting so you could use that to test potentially
cool, I'll try that. This is the first time I tried to use the share with steam.
That's a tail light... nice.
High tech bikes. Need to come up with the 21st century version of a playing card or cardboard in the spokes!
That would be POV animations https://learn.adafruit.com/bike-wheel-pov-display
neat, how do you plan to handle loading the brush with paint?
Really nice @simple flume. Loved the ad that your team made for the product you shared a while back
That's pretty sweet.
I remember the "I just need to finish it" feeling from school still
Too bad it's not painting in green right now :). Would look like making a hole.
I still live it at work all these years later! "Perfect is the enemy of done" and all that pleasantness
This was my final engineering project I worked on during my first year at McMaster's engineering program. This project was completed in about 6 weeks with a total of 4 group members.

Wait, that's a 1x1 lego??? I thought it was a decent sized button. 😮
ahaha that's a Lego not a tact switch!
Egad
Wow thats tiny
Good job getting that soldered on and working with a toaster oven fabrication @nova totem!
Sorry I don't know if I said LEGO(TM)
thanks JP for hosting!
Great projects everyone. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks @haughty quiver for letting me stumble my way through a demo! 🙂
Thanks for the great hosting job JP!
@nova totem that badge is coming along great!
Thanks everyone, Thanks JP - BONUS TIME!
fantastic projects everyone!
Thanks for taking time for us
and great job hosting @haughty quiver
Bye all!
Thanks first "real" circuit board project of any complexity I've made
Thanks for the long form program JP!
Thanks JP. Great projects everyone.
Thanks everyone for sharing -- y'all are awesome! And special thanks to @haughty quiver for hosting this extra long version of S&T!
Thanks everyone
Great job everyone, great extended edition
Thanks!
Thanks you
These projects just up the game week after week. 🤯
Yay, thanks everyone for all the great projects!
Great show all. 🙂
does anyone know what this error is in 'steamyard'?
I'm using the test steam as suggested but this is the error I was getting in the SnT
That's an odd message.
Yes, I don't know what 'modal' is.
'modal' would be the type of pop box box you saw, probably with "share" and "cancel". Is a pop up blocker potentially stopping it?
i'll check pop up blocker
Also, it may be worth trying different browsers.
pop ups are allowed. i'm using chrome. I'll try safari
If you previously told Chrome not to allow the use of the camera, it may not ask again. Look for the padlock next to the URL ... and ...
make sure the setting is "allow" or "ask", not "block"
it doesn't like safari
I think it prefers Chrome, yes
oh, I misunderstood the problem, sorry! what I said is not relevant.
Ah, they say Chrome or Firefox on Streamyard docs
Here's a thing to check: https://streamyard.com/resources/docs/mac-catalina-screen-capture-permissions/
May be relevant even in other versions of mac os
i'll check it out now. thanks. weird problem
@haughty quiver It works now. that was the problem. On my mac, screen recording was not allowed for chrome. Thank you very much. I'll be ready for next week.
Here's a picture for next week..
Awesome! Is the periscope a CD drive mechanism?
Yes, i tore out a cd-rom drive, but the auto camera was too heavy and I couldn't hide behind the cubilcle.but, it works. lol

Terrific, thanks @digital crescent
No ask an engineer tonight?
That's correct, it needed to be moved to tomorrow night, just for this week.
okay, bummer...ty JP
Just a heads up to you, and any other Mac user really - I've found recently that whenever there's a chrome update, permissions are apparently "lost". For example, my "New tab page" has weather on it. Every update, it says that "Location is not allowed", and I need to go grant permission in MacOS
how exactly do I participate in show and tell?
@hugo Thanks for the info. I'll be on the lookout.
Just before the show starts, a link to StreamYard is shared in this channel. That's the way to get on and share
No problem! Looking forward to seeing your demo!

Hey Hugo, how is it going, la vaccine?
just catching up on SnT... nice work getting that badge/IMU to work. @nova totem !! i've been avoiding parts that small, thinking of getting a hotplate now and doing some experimenting 🙂
So far, just a sore arm - like the first one, so that's a plus!
Cool glad to hear 🙂
One thing I may do on my next revision is make the pads stretch out from under the IC. I had no way of knowing if they bridged or didn't the way I had it set.
mm yeah i've been stretching my pads a bit to make hand-soldering easier with an iron, didn't think about it being useful for reflow inspection too. I've only ever seen stretched pads on SOIC/SOP-type parts with leads, but seems like it would work on a DFN/QFN too
Thanks. Hopefully that's the trend. My manager said he was sore and tired the next day, but that was the worse of it. I've heard of worse - like the flu symptoms and all, which I hope to avoid.
Well, hopefully everything is ok, and you will be here chatting
I'll probably do that either way! 😉
Yeah I was going to ask about to see if it is a good/bad idea. I think as I learn how much paste to use too that helps
I just got my first shot today, so far feel fine, curious what tomorrow will bring
Hopefully, nothing but clear skies and good health 🙂
👍 yeah i bet someone in #help-with-hw-design will know
I was watching what I thought was ask an engineer 'live' but somehow it turned out to be from ASK AN ENGINEER 11/29/17 LIVE - strange time warp - no masks with guests - I should have known something was up 🙂

Hi everybody!
FunPark aka JohnHouse
bleeps are bloopin' and bloops are bleepin' on YT!
I wonder what Lars will gnaw on today.
all bloops no JP voice
Is JP in NY with a workshop on the green screen?
all the bloops with JP
Wow, YT actually notified me for once of a live stream
And he's back!
audio in-sync and peaking nicely at -6dB
never leave software unattended... it'll get ya
Idle software is the bugs playground any thing can happen
Once the Lars app is installed...
Hello from SE PA
pysec
pysec is good. Something like the CircuitPySec
Will John Park’s PySec take shorter or longer than making the castellated run?
Nice collection of tips on that github
Just got done with a call -- has Lars nibbled on anything yet?
Just the fiber to all the broadcast networks.
He's a hungry fella.
Data on bottom, Lore in the middle, B4 on top
USB-micro-B to USB-C adapters are awesome -- for low-power scenarios. I wouldn't trust them for anything with high current (more than 5v 2.4amp).
Some camera lenses filter out IR now, so you might not be able to use the "cellphone camera" trick anymore.
you can also do: import board; dir(board) all in one line to get a dump of what's in board
I need to set some reminder that when i'm not super busy it pings me when a show is on... well better late then never!
Thanks @haughty quiver for another awesome workshop! Hope y'all have an excellent evening.
Thank you
Thank you!
Good timing. "Thanks and goodbye" just when I got here.
thank you all!
good show!
Thank you @haughty quiver ! (and Lars)
Thanks JP!
hey, thank you Tod for the cool tricks
Same here @clever summit. It'd be really convenient of JP's shows were moved to a time when I don't need to pick up my kids from school. Just saying 😉
