That moment when you find out you've been conditioned to WAY overthink a process. Been there with CP as well
@autumn turret can attest to the fun last week when i was doing a development stream for an arduino library
it just didn't want to work for arduino but CP it just worked
the good thing is: if you find that too easy, you can still write assembler for the rp2040 using the pioasm module !
Bad news, PIO isn't that hard 🙂
good news PIO is so easy
Which is written with and called through CircuitPython
I print with snap-fit features on just about everything now thanks to @hard hollow & @rocky reef doing it.
Super cool!
Me to Siri: "Tea. Earl Gray. Hot."
LOL
You know, I tried that with Alexa, and despite there being Alexa enabled microwave and other appliances, still can't? What's up with THAT?
that is called IO Tea
"Hey Siri, build these dev boards please"
Alexa, where's the bug in my program?
Hey Siri, what's new new new on adafruit?
Whaaaaaa???
The Kaleidocycle is a 2:50 print, and I don't fully trust the relay controlling my power supply.... hmmmm
Duelling mike elephants.

it's like a modern version of the VCP200 🙂
Hi Im Elizabeth and Im here for ask an engineer and I have a question, how do people make capacitors?

Fun fact: Knowles is Beyoncé's first venture into embedded speech recognition. 😉
@terse crag answers will come along soon, thanks for joining us!
QUESTION: Does the rotaryio library use native hardware on microcontrolers that have built-in quadrature counters? (e.g. ATSAMD51 and E51 and the iMXRT1062)

This tiny coin cell battery holder is ideal for small portable or wearable projects. It holds one 20mm coin cell (CR2032 is the most popular size) to generate 3V nominal. 20mm coin ...
@noble grove I'd have to check the source to say for sure, but I think generally no -- we grab pin change interrupts, then "figure out" the quadrature change in software. so it's okay for human-operated encoder knobs but not so good for a servo motor for instance
@terse crag have you seen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sy_G1oYRQmM&list=PLjF7R1fz_OOXWHQhEVEI5Jqf18TQRr5Hu&index=16 ?

Q: @adafruit Is tiktok a good source of traffic to your site that converts to orders? Which social media platforms are the best contributors to Adafruit's order funnel? Thanks.
Q: @adafruit I dont think I saw a jst-ph battery connector on the fun house. Is USB the only way to power it?
Could you add a Zigbee / Thread module to the fun house?
So. Much. THIS! And kinda secretly hoping it'll be in the next Adabox :/

Thanks @open girder and good night. 🌘
on the S2 it's actually power enable so it turns off the power
Bye all!
Extra long AAE tonight! Thanks @open girder for another awesome evening of shows! Thanks to @hard hollow and @rocky reef for hosting S&T! And thanks to everyone for making this a great place!
thanks for a great show!
Good night all!

Thanks!
Thanks guys! Highlight of my Wednesday to add some spice to circuit analysis/ diff eq 😄
Thanks Adafruit crew! Thanks all!
Night all!
OOoh! DJ Ecken beats tonight!
@rapid hornet But speed limited. Fine for knobs, but gear-motors with encoders can go really fast.
Moment of ZENer! just got it.
Ah true. I don't know of anyone who has used it with a motor
I only tested with rotary encoder knobs
@rapid hornet Well hopefully somebody with too much time on their hands and a PID:4416 or one of the N20 motors (like a 4641) will be inspired...
Perhaps you can try it out, @noble grove ?
I can program my way out of a paper bag in a pinch, but I don't have enough hair left to bang on registers. Jack of all trades...
@slow spire I mean, I'll think about it, but I'm easily frustrated and even more easily distracted.
frus-tracted™. I've been there!

Good afternoon all you wonderful folks! And yes, that includes you too, Lars. 🦝

This BundleFly is really handy! If you're still installing libraries by hand (for your own development), then using circup is very useful https://github.com/adafruit/circup/ It only does the official Adafruit bundle and not the CircuitPython_Community_Bundle, but that covers a lot

Lol.
Did it connect to the wifi AP you have in your house in Peru? 🙂
Had to bounce early, I'll catch the VoD. I actually have a use for the FunHouse to monitor a cold and damp environment -- with built-in wifi chip will make it easy to connect to adafruit IO.
Maybe pair with a PowerSwitchTail relay to turn on fans/heaters as needed.
Bye, @waxen thistle 👋
Thanks for triggering my Alexa
you could use it to turn on/off light up house numbers (if I ever finish my project)
Those are actually quite useful in datacenters. A university from CR had a bathroom on top of their server room, and during holidays a couple of years ago had a huge flood and lost a bunch of equipment.
They hired us to make some esp32+lora devices with water sensors, door sensors (people keep leaving the door open), etc.
@nova totem So FedEx can find your house? 😉
"ALEXA BUY FIVE TELETUBBIES BLUERAY BOXED SETS"
Yup, they're pretty good but food delivery drivers always seem to miss me and go past
Ikea Tradfrid is my prefered target... looking for easy way to control from CircuitPython. Maybe HomeAssistant would be the best gateway as it support it already. And MQTT is the way.
Flashing house numbers are great for emergency calls, too.
That's a great idea, hadn't even thought about that
Yuck Alexa-s and family.
welcome to JOhnPark Funhouse
The huge thing here is that MQTT works on ESP32-S2 CircuitPython !
Evening. Late to the party.
Evening @clever summit
Are you having fun?
Good afternoon friends
Thanks @haughty quiver. Have a good weekend.
Thanks!
Yep, get here as JP wraps up
Great show again, @haughty quiver 👍
It looks a lot like this: https://learn.adafruit.com/digikey-iot-studio-smart-home
Par for the course. It would be much more convenient to me if you'd move one timezone closer JP! lol
Thank you
At least I catched the last 5 minutes. 🙂
@autumn turret JP is on Peru time. 😉
Thanks much!
Great show @haughty quiver thanks!
thanks @cinder wind
Just got done with my call ....and the show's over. bleh

Good afternoon
Hola from 'rado ! Boarding at Winter Park tomorrow ! :-D
@rapid hornet Just a heads up, the ZV-1 camera does not fully charge over USB. It dies after 4-5 hours due to empty battery. Guess the 500 mA is not quite enough.
Getting my Moderna vaccine on Tuesday!
First dose last week. :-)
I have long meetings over Zoom. 🙂

Oh, relaxed. So I should be watching this in bed then. 😎
Hi Scott, your talk at the OSHWA summit was great.
🥳 Congrats!!
Happy birthday deep dive! 🎉
mmm, social eating/drinking
Curious if you can expand a bit about using bitbanging vs using internal chip peripherals (was mentioned about rotaryio).
My couch collection.
ItsyBitsy RP2040 in stock if you’re looking for it
Geeks for geeks is a good reference website for c++
A new chip means a new ItsyBitsy, and the Raspberry Pi RP2040 is no exception. When we saw this chip we thought "this chip is going to be awesome when we give it the ItsyBitsy ...
what monitor do you use?
Wait, FunHouse is available, QT Py RP2040 too...
Bought three RP2040 boards earlier in the week. Restraining self on itsybitsy RP2040...
cool, thanks!
I have 5 Dell monitors here, for my 2 computers.
New monitor in box. Have to forklift out the old one first
Hi all. I came it at a wrong time. What's expensive?
I think 49” may be usable for my aging eyes
There's huge value to making sure your tools don't fight you. Business expense of struggling is way undervalued when looking at flat cost
PIP with two computers makes nice monitor worth it.
@modest vector Scott's monitor
Yes. I’m replacing two. With one. Now I have to sell/gift the old ones.
Is that board games behind you?
I garbage picked a 52" UHD TV a few months ago and am using it as a monitor and it's awesome.
Yes I had a 40” but it was4:3. Too high.
Slides would be kewl.
I've been working from home on my 13" laptop for a year now that I feel I'm going to have to re-learn how to use a larger monitor, haha.
Oh, a 13" screen? I don't think I could ever get anything done on one.
Ha the OSHWA Summit is just ending like right now.
It took a while to get used to it, for sure. I think my eye sight surely suffered.
I think there is a Sparkfun Feather ESP32S2 seems to be longer.
Extra pin somewhere...
The StemmaQT connector on Feather is not always at the same location...
Greetings friends, on this Dive-a-versary! 🍰 🥳
Greetings @autumn turret
new SOC from espressif 🙂
RiscV + Wifi6 + BLE
lol
Is it fair to say that only one chip model is supported in CP for ethernet wing ?
i'm hoping we'll see a Xtensa core device with Wifi6
So you're saying to use a friendly name for bluetooth services, and NOT magic UUID values?
Some data sheets are inspiring, and read like a good book.
It's actually sort of snowing here today. not a nice thing when the mountain is closed
Can (or should) something be done for those simpletest to avoid all those alternative pin for various form factor. Like a file you import that map for metro/feather/nameit?
Or checking at runtime what board.
Split existing example...
Simpletest generator, you tell what screen and what board and it does the perfect demo code?

I want time.sleep() to be interupted earlier if something happend.
With samples, what I've seen (elsewhere) is things like "If you want to do this variation, go get this other file^ from this place*"
^ Filename isn't specified, or has changed
- Place is vague and nebulous, like "Our Github/site/repo" but not always linked
time.nap()
Will CPY 7.x be merged with MPY 1.14 (0r later)
lol to samples comment. I do a lot of searching for examples that have been lost to Internet bit rot.
I have my first BLE use case: phone app using BLE to a pid controller with a rs332 port.
what are the major milestones for that merge to take place?
I think this is the merge issue: https://github.com/adafruit/circuitpython/issues/2999
Good evening all you wonderful folks! Hope y'all are doing well.
Doing about as well as can be here. Hope you're doing well too
Been a brutal day with everything else, but it's nice to be here.
heck yeah having a chill celebration for the year of deep dive is an awesome excuse for chocolate! 😄
Nice 🍫

Belgian chocolate... anybody!
I spent yesterday reinstalling Windows on my laptop. Now to get everything else working. Actually compiles almost 40% faster in WSL2.
Hey everyone and congrats on a year of streams
@rapid hornet also fun: https://moonstruckchocolate.com
Couple o' QT Py's just bagged. :-D
everyone get up and stretch, our cat god demands it
@rapid hornet Congrats on 1 year of streaming and the OHS talk today 🎉
If there are chocolate places near where you live that have chocolate covered bacon, go for it! 😋
Oh, Canadian snacks!
Ketchup chips & nanaimo bars SVP!
Everything arrived for the EZ Make Oven refresh from @smoky island
Post foamyguy assembly stream tomorrow? 😉
Adafruit should provide one simpletest that use each feature of magtag/funhouse/... without the big library. Just to show how it works under the library.
btw, reminder, @smoky island is streaming 1 hour earlier tomorrow - 10am Eastern/9am Central/7am Pacific!
Random highlight of the week -- picked up a geiger counter (shipped to another address, so it'll be a few days before I get it).
There's an ESP32 under the hood for wifi, and I want to use it to measure if any of my vintage camera lenses are spicy.
@smoky island streams tomorrow!
thank you!
Sorry about all the pings @smoky island
I even bought a brand new (but stainless steel flavor) of the same toaster oven.
Q: I don't remember with 100% certainty, but did you share a resource on getting up to speed, or at least familiar, with BLE, protocols, etc?
Even tortilla chips are hard to find.
Never heard of TWT.
i was going to ask the same thing!
And OFC adding that book would have bumped me to another freebie level! 😿
Oh well, there will always be another Adafruit order around the bend!
ODFMA which is part of wifi6 is actually interesting for the use case of many many iot devices using the same access point.
haha I placed an order on wednesday and now I'm wishing I held off, but it was an, "ahead of more shortages" type order so who knows, can't hold onto regret
So subdividing the larger bandwidth amongst many client with low bandwidth needs
Note to self: Ask for product information BEFORE placing orders!
I use to fluff my Digi-Key orders with Adafruit stuff to get up to the free freight tier. Makes the Adafruit stuff basically free. 🙂
oh good, i already have that book. Now i just need to read it...
Greater than $200 gets you free shipping.
well digikey @ $8.00 cad for fedex air ship is basically free 🙂
i have stacks of books that i 'mean to read soon'
8$ CAD to ship FedEx from the US?
Digikey is more like $25 to here.
They do, cause all my FedEx orders say from Winnipeg to Winnipeg
Same. And Kindle books. And wishlists (plural) for both physical and ebooks
i just bought a new physical cookbook. cooking with a kindle is not fun for me. And i like the pretty food photos
So I guess I won't queue up the question "Can you teach me Bluetooth" for next week! 😄
I'm working on a pdf->epub converter for all of the blogposts/arxiv docs that aren't quite worth printing
ACM Yearly Subscription includes free access to all O'Reilly and several other tech publishers.
how fast can you get advertising to go on the Nordic chips? As an example, I just wanted to do more of a broadcast to see if a device is there and react to really fast. Really don't need to send data back and forth so probably don't need to establish a connection.
Q: I looked at your specification and wonder if there is a specific reason that you don't support transfer page wise and just sequential?
Page = Pieces.
Like a start index and a size
Is it feasible to stream 3 axis sensor over BLE or old skool BT, without dropping any points ? (For windows logging)
Double buffer / ping pong easy yet ?
that is why i was hoping to not have to establish a connection, just advertise really fast at a low decibel so i am not just stomping everything around it.
thx, will check it out.
TFTP 🙂
Is it still true that CP can only do one of the sides of BT ? BT Mesh in the cards for CP ?
lol, i did an xmodem transfer project once. written in msp430 assembler. was rather easy.
a new TFTP over UDP?
but i actually did it in C first and did sort of a hand compile to assembler
No permission because it is FAT?
Z-modem is the way forward. 🙂
Can I create a file with name "COM1" using that interface? DOS will not like that.
Send a PY and the CP board receive an MPY... pretty good compression, mpy-cross on the fly.
Actually, if MPY-Cross can run on the iOS/mobile device, even better
Do any usb-c hubs work with CP devices ?
With CP as USB host.
Is it possible to do Hi quality audio from guitar to amp wireless, without lag ?
You mean you've been locked in there with her 😉
She's been locked in here with me all day
You say that like it's a bad thing?
ZMODEM spec from 1988. http://gallium.inria.fr/~doligez/zmodem/zmodem.txt
Will the iPhone app run the circup and update my lib?
What is the fastest way to parse in CP ? (For multi processor comm)
Serial
Two micros.
Define "parse"?
Ascii shredding.
a voice from two spinning dots
For three channel sensor.
We can hear everyone, just see scott
Yay
Now we're good!
Hide the friends!
Which brand voltage booster ?
Are all the stick the same size?
I've heard from a renowned poet that "it's hip to be square." 🟪
Is there a stemma connector for board to board mating WITHOUT a cable ?
For the keys, it is possible to stabilize them with a pcb layer with "square" hole, like on the keybow: https://www.adafruit.com/product/4144
Effort still going with stepper control with Trinamic chips using encoder feedback ?
Rotary controller might work for Tempest knock off video game
Hi all, hello @proper trench nice suprise to see you on the stream too 🙂
Is commodity 7 bit MIDI encoders (in drum pads) working in CP ?
reinvent 1 wire over 8: increase the bandwidth! 😄 Incidentally I'm not someone who should invent protocols for some unknown reasons
rotory dip!, there is a good Great search that has some stuff on that!
2mm pitch DIP switches are alot smaller than 100 mil ones.
almost every project i want to do wants to use multiple of the same board LOL.... ugh....
8 encoders in usb midi drums for $50ish.
So it’s not just me lol
Sell more I2C multiplexer...
thx LadyAda!
(FeatherS2 on the back)
When will reverse NeoPixels be on sale ?
Thanks for joining Lady Ada! These drop-ins are always delightful!
Thanks!
Watch your screen, you have a program running there... that print a lot of 0.
QTPY is gone
@rapid hornet Thanks for another awesome Deep Dive!
Thanks @rapid hornet 🙂
thx @rapid hornet ! thx for all the info!
Thanks Scott
@rapid hornet caught a second wind while discussing BLE. Congratulations on a great year!
Great time. Thanks @rapid hornet !
Thanks @rapid hornet and congrats on the year
Thank you Scott!
Thank you! I jumped into these probably a hair less than a half a year ago, these have been fantastic and made me dive back into electronics! Have an amazing weekend!
Thanks!
thanks all!
And we are live!
Join me while I stream some work on CircuitPython libraries here in the chat and on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/foamyguy_twitch or YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NarPdGp00qk
Hi @smoky island
You have one of those stability balls?
I have been looking at buying one.
Please report back in a couple of weeks if it worked for you.
Yeah, typing sound is much better!
So next step is to make that JP stream deck thingie for OBS then?
Howdy!
Hi all
Hi all. Is it just me or is there a lot of echo/reverb today?
Yeah, not just you.
Yes, same.
No problem. Can hear ok.
that sounds more like there's 2 audio inputs active
Much better
Way better! Thanks!
you're missing {} for format
Afternoon everyone.
Slight tangent (doesn't help with height)
Instead of
print("Some text {}".format(an_integer))
Just do
print("Some text", an_integer)
You only need to use format() if you are getting fancy.
Why not print(f"{n}")?
f-strings aren't supported on all builds, especially the really small ones like QT PY
BTW. I really like using f-strings when at all possible.
nice cat!
that, and if you don't need formatting a , is simpler than {} (and takes table["stuff"] better)
if you just print("Height:", height)
Good morning friends and weblate gang

What's the parent "if" condition?
When using line count for width
Going well, thanks. How are you doing?
I see "RTL" and "LTR". Could the width have been using the line count for vertical languages?
If not the language, maybe display orientation?
Make sure you test the labels with characters that have ascenders and descenders
like "t" and "g"
"The quick brown fox..."?
Or use the "rotation" property like in the "graphics" library?
Or have an enum (faked) for an orientation property
I'll try to find the right library. It's the one used by Magtag/PortalBase
Enum are not natively support by CP\
I have an example in ProgressBar
Sorry, first link is the "Rotation" property in the Graphics library. Second is my implementation of "enum"
If you make the two orientation values the same, it adds entertainment value when trying to figure out why one of them is not working, and then a solid "are you kidding me???" when you realize the issue 3 hours later
That's why I made a separate class for the values
Just a touch of assert()?
orientation in [self.VERTICAL, self.HORIZONTAL] ...
Could you please give a 10 second recap of what you're making?
Ultimately, there's a million different ways to do it (give of take 999,999). As long as it conveys the message, and is relatively consistent on a per-library basis
Heya @severe vigil
Worry more about what you want to display, as opposed to the minutia of how to make it go exactly where you want it to
and make it consistent
This library is very reminiscent of WPF and XAML. I guess a lot like Android also does?
Hi! (great to be back)
Tedious, and you have to redo if you change display size.
1 thought and 1 question:
- will it allow a widget to span multiple rows or cols?
- can certainly understand wanting to make UI designers' lives easier. Thanks for taking this on!
OK, I am back. Had a work related call and realized I had screwed up so had to work for a while...
Hi @autumn turret !
UI designer's, yes. UI implementer, TOTALLY!!!
Ahoy @clever summit
I am a developer, UI designer not.
Exactly
much better phrased
thx
Programmer friendly UI - it's friendly to the programmer who wrote it
Everyone else - confusion reigns!
I am implementing a developer friendly UI framework for work. And by "implementing" I mean I tell other people what I want.
Implementing, like a boss!
And by "developer friendly" I mean plugin GUI sections.
Why not use something like what WPF/WinUI/Xamarin uses with XAML?
All controlled from the API side, aka controlled by code.
For design, there's a great book called "Designed for Use" by Lukas Mathis
Learn guide project, just not on the MagTag.
Question about layouts: Can a layout element contain another layout?
I am looking forward to when the new libraries are done, my MagTag project was a real pain....
So horizontal linear layout have a vertical one in the center column?
What are you changing from your developer experience at work compared to this framework?
since you have the option to improve on it
That looks great!
Thanks. Toook way too many hours to get that working. Got a MagTag from the first test batch, so board support wasn't even ready when I got it. 🙂
yes it is to you @smoky island.
It could be that I'm too used to my own framework but when would one not want relative positioning?
Good afternoon, sorry I am so late, wow already 3 hours, start at earlier today?
Hi @ancient grotto So weblate GANG is complete.
@clever summit hello @smoky island hello 🙂
Hello @autumn turret
Oh, pre-commit makes changes to the file on disk
So you have unsaved changes, and pre-commit made changes
Something to consider for "too many arguments", might be using tuples for position and size, like (x,y), (width, height)
Ignoring is an option too
As long as the usage is consistent within the library
Or have 2 __init__() declarations, one with singles for compatibility, and one with tuples for forward-going usage
"singles" is this a custom type or a variable argument input?
As for the cats fighting, have you tried doping them up with catnip?
Just putting ideas out there to spur discussion
So do tuples!
Singles -> Individual params
DO TUPLES!
Wow, @severe vigil just made a persuasive argument for using the CAPS LOCK key! lol
PR's are always welcome
😂 <\ caps lock> Coordinates are inherently paired. I've found that using tuples tightens the interfaces and lets you reason about the data in ways separate arguments can't.
Normal time is good 🙂
Thanks for the stream! Sorry I had to step away... 🙂
thanks for the stream!
Thank you!
Thanks for the stream, company and edumacation @smoky island and friends!
Thank you @smoky island
Thanks. Have a good weekend everyone.

Desk of Ladyada - Trinkey triNKey TRinkEY TRINKEY! https://youtu.be/hDlh4BuvJ-g
We're drunk on Trinkey's here - we tested our four pending designs: slide trinkey, neokey trinkey, rotary trinkey and prox/light trinkey. All working well, we made Arduino and CircuitPython definitions for all four, and wrote a little example code. We also got a funky rotary encoder sample, a Kano Motion Sensor unboxing/teardown and a preview of...
yerp - we will hear that we are "lowering the 'standards' so 'anyone' can learn coding and electronics"
you'd be surprised how many "serious industry" places use Adafruit hardware and code 🙂
I could name drop a lot of big car companies
@glad mortar yep, they tell us (we do not ask) but we can say for sure, everyone uses our stuff and it's been to space to med to cars, to you name it
Adafruit stuff has even made it to a galaxy far, far away
Will reverse mount neopixels be in Adafruit store soon ?
Love that Trinkey form format
TOF sensor updated with a newer ST part ?
Could we get some plastic enclosures for the trinkeys
Question l: as you do more devices do you know where to find compatible “key caps” with traditional labeling like “delete” “alt” .. etc ... I’m not super familiar with Cherry MX I don’t know brand names of keyboards that use them
the trinkey form factor would be nice for a tiny board with wifi or ble. Then you could power it with any available USB port, e.g. new power strip which has a couple of usb ports
What is the most elegant way to parse JSON serial data on a micro ?
Ardunio JSON is really nice, as is CP. I've done both.
I've been wanting a STEMMA Trinkey! I'm holding my breath!
what's cool is you can try both, arduino or circpy for JSON parsing on the same board usually and see which one is best for your project
our boards do both and more
What was that ruler tool name / part number ... I think it would be highly useful for cutting wire for antennas to proper size

I can’t get that link to work ?
If you go to the adafruit main page just search for "calipers"
Not an important question, but if you're looking for one - the NRF52840 Feather Express has the space in the center as a debug port... the Sense uses it for sensors (which is great but adds cost)... any chance an update to the express or another version replaces the debug w/a STEMMA QT?
TY!!!
Good to know - I noticed it was out of stock
🙂
BTW, thanks for the long show tonight - tons of info - you were my whole drive home 🙂
Castellated boards to get narrower ?
Thanks @open girder and good night. 🌘
nice showing that radial menu on windows with that trinkey
Good afternoon all you Deal Seekers! 🤑
Good afternoon.
Hello!
Good Day !!!
Hello everyone
Good Evening peeps.
Too Hot? Too Cold? Lars is Goldilocks --- DIY is just right.
Disco jam music on YT!
Oh, YT actually notified me just as JP started! That was a new one.
What a savings!
I got the "Watch JP in 30 minutes" notification 10 minutes ago. 🙂
Wow, I usually get notifications from YT when its exactly too late.
that's kinda close @clever summit :)
haha that was cool
You've changed your shirt twice while pulling out the sensor from the cabinet. Now that's talent 😉
Superman!
The question I had is already answer: if it can be used with a PyPortal.
Broadway wants to know your secret for fast costume changes. 😉
This is what I imagine my snake 'sees' with his heat pits. very 'Python compatible'

@cinder wind I'm 😂 following your Pico rotary encoder project. I love it.
thanks!
Can it detect people carrying soldering irons?
Can it detect the position of the Sun or does it just saturate the whole sensor?
Very nice JP! Thanks for showing us an excellent deal!
Danke Schön, alle leute!
Thank you!
wait, which one was John Park?
Definitly couldn't pass on that deal
Thanks @haughty quiver
@cinder wind Lars
@fluid drum glad I answered it! I think it'll work with nearly any board that does I2C
Most of them
@viral sail i went outside to check but today is one of our six scheduled "cloudy" days per year here in LA.
Good day my friends!
@viral sail @haughty quiver Here's a snapshot of the sun at 30 degrees above the western horizon with the outside temperature at about 50F. Apparently the sun doesn't saturate the thermopile array, just increases the center sensor value by a few degrees.
Thanks for checking.

@split gazelle I wanted to tell you, I think I'll be referencing some of your work to help someone that has reduced mobility.
One of the projects on my plate is creating an automated "I am still watching!" infrared remote for an Apple TV.
And I stumbled across a HacksterIO guide that I think will be an amazing reference, and it's even in CircuitPython! Awesome right? So I look at the byline, and I see you show up 🦜
So thank you. You'll be making a difference for someone.
ah that's amazing! that was one of my first circuitpython projects 😺 i hope the project goes well. if you have any questions about stuff feel free to ping me

At second glance, the 32F minimum reading was confusing, so I repeated the measurement today. Without looking at the raw data, I think that’s the result of array saturation. Interesting that the center cell measurement is different than the rest of the array. @haughty quiver

Hard disagree to lowered standards--I've gotten to watch a ton of people improve the world around them thanks to arduino, raspberry, mirco/circuit python, etc. Improving the world around you, no matter the means, is always a step forward. If it's a step away from elitism, maybe that's good.

Q: What do you think about converting a air fryer to a reflow oven instead of a toaster oven/hotplate (I have a cheap one just sitting there tempting me and I think the blower might help)
@pearl shoal I wonder about how is the wind velocity inside one of those air fryers?
I'm sure it can be regulated, right?
@pearl shoal Yeah, you're right. Could always PWM the fan or something.

Sounds interesting, you may need to do something about the flux fumes blowing out the exhaust. Otherwise it seems like it is more or less a convection oven.
@pearl shoal Maybe I'd fry fewer boards with an air fryer? 🙂
Question for the show: The Gameduino 3X Dazzler — I appreciate the heads up you can’t use a stacking header — Thoughts on if you could get a AirLift (breakout) to the pins near the header ? I wanted to get it connected to Adafruit IO.. wait for the Adafruit “DVI” breakout ?
Is it easily possible to change the picture on a matrix display over wifi, from windows running a easy custom app ? (like labview code, etc) If so, which feather brain is best for this type of dedicated 24/365 micro 2x2 array of addressable leds app ? Esp32 still ? Or rp2040 with wifi shield ? Frames per minute ?
Question: the camera X ... don’t see anything stopping it from being controlled by Adafruit IO and capture pics on command ?
That ruins my idea for a cat laser...
photons or waves?

Thanks, I was just kidding though 🙂
Q: Is there anything special I need to set up a board for pick & place? I have had boards made for hand assembly in Eagle, but is pick & place much different? Is it as easy as follow the design rules and give them the Gerber?

How about a 2mm pitch version for 20% smaller ? Castellated ONLY for thinner ? 😮
Just realized I gotta stay away from that pin 5. Not sure I want to hang with him anymore.
Just like it's cousin, Pin #5 at the bowling alley
7-10 split this week. Awesome!
question: I have always wondered .. could you put a SD Feather wing on a SD FEATHER... I wanted to make a copper of a SD Card / test file. Would the pins conflict? Anyway to have the additional SD card use another pin ? Any foreseen issues ?
All these RP2040 boards make me excited
I’ve got two in the works myself but release is at least 10 weeks out
$59 USB Midi drums have eight encoders. :-o (7 bit) CircuitPython library for them yet ?
And funny enough is that it isn’t necessarily getting RP2040 that will end up being the issue but some basic things like Stemma/Qwiic connectors
How do Bostonians pronouce "solder" correctly?
Ouch. When you can't complete a project, not because of the major components, but the "accessories"
Yeah haha it’s kind of crazy
Is humidity sensitivity in components only for pick and place or hand solder too?

I would think "saw-dahh"?

How do you balance what you want to do on a product vs what will make it reasonable to market?
I think I'm going to invent a crypto currency that you have to pedal to mine. Gonna call it "Bikecoin"

Stay awesome @proven crow

I tried to bring my CP Sapling down to QtPy cost and I can’t do it lol
Ok... err, wait. Did you just ask me to pedal for you? lol
My cost for CP Sapling is $4.60 haha

@cinder wind Can I ask you a question about the GC9A01 display?
yeah! what's up?
Hello and thanks. I'm looking to make a Cameo broach using this display and was wondering what hardware you managed to get it to run under MP/CP.
Q2, is there a way to fade one image in oder to show an image under it?
@cinder wind I'm looking at maybe the QTpyand the GC9A01
Q1: For QT Py M0 you'll need to add the 2MB flash chip to tun it into the "QT Py M0 Haxpress": https://circuitpython.org/board/qtpy_m0_haxpress/ If you have the QT Py RP2040, it'll work straight away.
Q2: No clue about fading between images. My locket code just swaps between images, and that takes a while since it's done over I2C (actually SPI, not I2C, my mistake) https://github.com/todbot/CircuitPython_GC9A01_demos/blob/main/examples/gc9a01_picture_locket.py
@cinder wind wait I2c? I thought the display was spi?
oh sorry yes, it is. I've been playing with another display recently that is I2C
oh cool, can't wait for my display to arrive, I was going to try the ESP32 picod4 but no driver for that
Yeah, CircuitPython on ESP32 is only for ESP32-S2 chips. But that may change in a few months!
Yeh only units with built in usb
I wonder if circuitpython could run a scaled version of one of these videos

With a more powerful board (M4 or better) I think yes!
